Hi my name is Ace and i'm board so here's a list of people who canonically went to Hogwarts at the same time as The Marauders in case anyone was interested.

(in low-key age order (or at least in terms of year at school)

Steve Laughalot - was captain of the slytherin quidditch team from 1968-1972

Lucius Malloy - was in his seventh year when severus snape joined hogwarts

Patricia Rakepick - was in her fifth year when the marauders first joined hogwarts and was friendly with them

Narcissa Black - was born in 1955

Davey Gudgeon - tried to touch the whomping willow when it was first planted in the marauders first year

Bertha Jorkins - was a few years older then the marauders and recognised peter from school. sirius remembered her after azkaban

Emma Vanity - was slytherin quidditch captain from 1972 - 1976

Florence Greengrass - was mentioned by bertha in a flashback from school

Gaspard Shingleton - was born in 1959

Mary MacDonald - was attacked at hogwarts by mulciber during the marauders fifth year

Lily Evans - was part of the class of 1978

Tilden Toots - was born in 1959

Adrian Carpenter - was part of the class of 1978

Alexander Stebbins - was in the same owls exam as the marauders making him part of the class of 1978

Severus Snape - was part of the class of 1978

Evan Rosier - was part of a group of slytherins that severus snape hung out with during school

Bruce Mulciber - was part of a group of slytherins that severus snape hung out with during school

Edmund Avery Jr - was part of a group of slytherins that severus snape hung out with during school

Juliette Wilkes - was part of a group of slytherins that severus snape hung out with during school

Gilderoy Lockheart - was born in 1964 (i ignore his age and make him in the same year as the marauders for shits and giggles)

Dirk Cresswell - was in the year below lily evans

Greta Catchlove - was born in 1960

Bertram Aubrey - was hexed by james potter and sirius black while at school

Regulus Black - was 18 years old when he died in 1979

Barty Crouch Jr - couldn't have been older then 19 when he was arrested in the early 80s

Lucinda Talkalot - was slytherin quidditch captain in 1976

Daisy Hockum - was born in 1962

Olivia Green - was part of the class of 1981

Duncan Ashe - was part of the class of 1981

Glenda Chittock - was born in 1964

Lord an D'Eath - was born in 1964

i finished rereading the raven cycle (again) and this time i charted the days that each chapter happens on based on dates and times given and it's so interesting to see it because the first three books all take about a month, with a month or two between, but only 3 days pass between the end of bllb and trk and trk takes place over the course of a week

after literal years i finally got around to downloading a pdf of the wipers times, an unsancitioned satitical british trench magazine circulated among the troops in france from 1916-1918 after the fortuitous discovery of a printing press. i have approximately five million other things i need to read so idk when i'll be able to devote much time to it, and i gotta pick up a proper copy bc it's missing at least salient no 4 vol 2. that said? i'm genuinely laughing at what i've skimmed so far

#this is like THE page everyone likes it seems but it's SO good #also the flammenwerfer one i found on wikipedia is gold. that's the only reason i know no 4 vol 2 is missing from the pdf after skimming #and 'DEAD COW FARM' CINEMA. is great #the wipers times is SO fascinating to me as a glimpse of life into the trenches without any signifigant censorship of the bitterness that's #couched in satire. it's hilarious satire but there's still bitterness there sometimes! and gallows humor! this was adored by the men on the #front but it's amazing it happened at all. ngl, I'm beginning to take issue with how in conversations about anti-intellectualism almost automatically, the face of girls and women will be slapped on the problem.

#'all those tiktok girls who only like marvel films and' - why do you always say girls and women? are the guys filling opera halls instead?#'women in their mid 20s who still only read YA novels' okay sure that's an example and relevant discussions can be had #but it reminds me of the mocking tone in which people speak of 'chick-lit' to use women's interest as an indicator of lower value #while in fact women are reading more than men in EVERY single genre of fiction. Women are doing a lot of (often unpaid) labour #supporting libaries supporting theatres supporting cultural events #meanwhile there is a pretty big overlap between toxic masculinity and anti-intellectualism #(especially misogyny and homophobia)#especially when it comes to things like ballet or opera or musical or generally dance #in fact it is often the female investment in specific things that makes them less 'valuable' in general consciousness #for thousands of years the theatre was well-respected and a high form of art - and now it's a 'wife-thing'#the father who will teach his son that theatre and dance are for girls - how is that never an example for anti-intellectualism
