The key to everything in this series is two things, THE PACT OF ICE AND FIRE and Jon Snow, the only person who is not a Stark Daughter who can complete it. The outline was clear. Jon/Stark Daughter. The pact is clear, Targaryen/Stark. Under very specific criteria. Once you accept that, the rest of the mysteries fall into place. No, Rhaegar cannot complete it with Lyanna, neither could the ones during the Dance. There is exactly one character in the entire series who can. And as Martin said, the big mystery of the series is Who Is Jon Snow’s Parents. He already told us. Several times. And its not Lyanna, Ashara, Wylla, Fisherman’s Daughter. Those are all red herrings. Rhaegar and Elia are the parents exactly as Rhaegar said. Exactly as Dany had her vision of.
Jon is the Prince that was promised. To Winterfell, to marry the Stark heir. This is why he is the Blood of Winterfell. And only one other character is ever called that. His spouse set up from the very beginning, through ADWD, reinforced in Fire and Blood.
Martin wrote this series as his response to Tolkien. What was the mystery of The Lord of The Rings? Who is Aragorn, aka Strider. And just like Tolkien, the entire story, from start to finish becomes an epic. The Song of Ice and Fire. Just as in Tolkien’s writing, The Silmarillion, we see the songs.
It is an entire world, but what is the focus? There are stories upon stories based on each character. Bran has his own epic, Arya has hers, Tyrion, Dany. Same as Tolkien did, Frodo has his epic journey, Sam supported him. Boromir was a hero defending Gondor, but failed. Faramir was the unwanted son but fought lived. But the answer lies in the title: The Return of the King. As much as it was Frodo’s Sam’s, it is Aragorn and Awren’s story. The story of a king and queen and the reclaiming of a throne.
And as with all epics, the story of the deeds and romance is turned into a song. The Song of Ice and Fire, is the story of the completion of the pact of ice and fire. It’s what Tolkien did also throughout the Silmarillion. The story within a larger story. Beren and Luthien, The Fall of Gondolin, The Lays of Beleriand, The Children of Hurin. Each of these is a story within a larger story. They are also history of the times turned into song with the Elves. And just as with the Pact of Ice and Fire, The Lord of The Rings, The Silmarillion, there is a story of romance in between the battles and slaughter.
This is the song of a Targaryen Prince, and his Stark Bride. And the song of what happened. And there are two “Starks” who love songs. But look at the Simillarion:
Beren and Luthien: Beren had to gain a Silmarillion from Morgoth for Luthiens hand.
The Fall of Gondolin: Tuor and Idril is the tale of a doomed city and the love between a human and elf princess which birthed the savior of elves and men.
The Children of Hurin: Turin and his sister Nienor and their doomed love.
The fall of Numenor itself is the basis for the fall of Valyria. The Mighty Empire that collapsed, and one family escaped and established their kingdoms.
Even in the Lord of The Rings itself, what is Aragorn’s story? Yes, becoming King of both the lost Northern kingdom and the remnants of the Southern one. But that is the requirement he must fulfill to be given Elrond’s daughters hand in marriage. The daughter he grew up with in Elrond’s house. It is the same story told a different way. Yes there was a agreement on the marriage in The Lord Of The Rings, it’s just not front and center. Instead of demanding he be king of both as Tolkien did with Elrond, Martin has laid out the story with a Pact that was never fulfilled. Until Jon Snow.
If the accepted theories are correct, Martin should be writing evidence to support them, not writing evidence that contradict them. Instead Martin is actively writing a story that directly contradicts many of the most accepted theories. He does not believe in changing the story because people figured it out. He will not change the story from the butler did it to the maid did it just because we figured it out. Yet he continues to write a story that contradicts R+L from the very first chapter, all the way through ADWD, and Fire and Blood.
The truth about R+L=J is not that it is the hidden truth, but that it is Robert who won the war, so he sets the narrative. It is what Robert believes happened. It is not even what Eddard believes. He hasn’t thought of Rhaegar in years. If he is raising Rhaegar’s son, this makes no sense. No one ever thinks Rhaegar and Lyanna. This goes for every character in the series. Because there is one simple truth, Jon looks like the child of a Dornish person. Look at Catelyn, Eddards soldiers and maids, Cercei, Edric Dayne. The point is every single one of them believes or flat out says, Dornish mom. Yes, he can pass as a Stark, compared to his brothers. They look like Tully kids. He looks MORE LIKE A STARK THAN THE RED-BROWN HAIRED, BLUE EYED TULLY LOOKING FAMILY. That’s not hard to beat. Half the continent can claim that distinction. But as we see over and over, Eddard is asked about Dornish Women as Jon’s mother. Eddard himself names Wylla the wet nurse from Starfall to Robert. This only holds up if people can see the Dornish in him. And from the very first chapter, Bran 1 we see that Jon does have Dornish Traits. His eyes, and his skin tone.
R+L is the one theory that Martin has actively had all the main characters who were alive and lived through those times tell us repeatedly, over and over, no this was not how it was. No one but Robert actually believes Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna. No one even ever thinks of the possibility of Jon being Lyanna’s. Which should make the entire fandom rethink it. It should be the very first thing the characters assume. The Dornish looks of Jon is what prevents it.
Harrenhall and the events preceding and afterwards did not happen as we are led to believe. What happened was not in character for either Rhaegar or Lyanna. Even Eddard himself tells us, he does not think of Rhaegar very often at all, but that Rhaegar was not like Robert with the whoring… The timelines do not even remotely line up if you actually take the time to look into it. Closer to 9 months than a year or greater that would be needed. This is not Star Trek, Eddard cannot get to Lyanna giving birth at the TOJ, also down to Storm’s End to have the Reach surrender, and then travel across the continent all in the time frame that lines up with Martins stated words.
Part 1: The Missing Clues Are Hidden In Fire and Blood and The World of Ice And Fire
Most won’t consider the possibility, but Martin has been very clear in the BOOK WRITING exactly who Jon is the child of. From the first book, all the way to Fire and Blood where he gives us the final pieces of the mystery. Notable the Targaryen family tree, (Dark haired Targaryens, and which bloodlines do and do not give us what Jon looks like), To how the Targaryens hide the MALE heirs during wartimes. All the way to the different methods of counting years in the series, (how to hide several kids and keep track of their births easily), and the ultimate answer. Who can complete the Pact of Ice and Fire. (Thereby completing the SONG OF ICE AND FIRE). The Pact is laid out in perfect criteria as to how it must be completed. And only one single character in the entire saga can complete it. Jon Snow. Not Rhaegar Targaryen, not Aegon Targaryen the young man with Jon Connington, not Dany, Val, or any of the others. Only the Targaryen raised in Winterfell, with the future Mrs. Stark/Targaryen in the same castle.
Martins own wife has told us R+L is simple and Martin does not do simple. But can we actually find the answer already in the story? We can go all the way back to Bran 1 AGOT. Yes, our very first introduction to Jon gives us the answer to his birth. Martin has been giving us the answer from the very first look at Jon, through the HOTU visions, all during Jon’s time at the wall, through the beyond the wall storyline with the wildlings, and even with his time bonding with Stannis.
The Path to Becoming a Warrior:
When Rhaegar was young, he was not famous for being a warrior. He was famous for reading. Until one day he found something in old texts that made him become a warrior. The answer is giving in Fire and Blood.
First, the prophecy that caused Rhaegar to become a warrior:
For all these reasons, Lord Hammer (as he now styled himself) began to dream of crowns. “Why be a lord when you can be a king?” he told the men who began to gather round him. And talk was heard in camp of a prophecy of ancient days that said, “When the hammer shall fall upon the dragon, a new king shall arise, and none shall stand before him.” Whence came these words remains a mystery (not from Hammer himself, who could neither read nor write), but within a few days every man at Tumbleton had heard them.
Fire and Blood: The Dying of the Dragons, Rhaenyra Triumphant
Now what weapon was Robert famous for? A Hammer. And if a Targaryen was researching prophecy, dragon hatching information, whatever, as a Targaryen you would definitely read about the last time period the Targaryen’s successfully hatched dragons and the fall of the dragons. Rhaegar is a dragon. All Targaryens are known as Dragons. Just as all Starks are Wolves, Lannisters are Lions.
Rhaegar was big into prophecy. Now if he reads this thinking it would be him forced to fight, he would indeed become a warrior. And as Martin likes to do people that try to change or prevent prophecy, he ended up helping it come true. Just not as we assume.
But we are given more history to build up the level of animosity between Robert and the Crown. His father Stephon, who died while returning from trying to find Rhaegar a spouse. With both Robert and Stannis watching as their parents died. This is the beginning of Robert “dreaming of crowns”…. More on this later, as at Harrenhall we have even more points of Robert heart hardening against the Crown.
And yes, the Crown was not stupid, everyone could see the high lords of each region suddenly starting to branch out with marriage alliances, when before they married into their own kingdoms, rarely into other kingdoms. Suddenly you have 2/3 of the continent either entering or trying to enter into a grand interlocking alliance by marriages. Riverlands to North- Catylen to Brandon, North to Stormlands- Lyanna to Robert, Westerlands tried to arrange a marriage to Riverlands- Jaime to Lyssa, and North and Stormlands tied to the Vale through Fostering- Eddard and Robert fostering with Jon Arryn. This was done over years, not days. Even Joanna Lannister and The Princess of Dorne had plans to marry at least one of their kids to each other.
Why suddenly now? It’s because the dragons are gone, the Targaryen’s are suddenly weak, indeed almost all killed off at this point after Summerhall.
And if you study the time of Aegon 5 and his children, you see the seeds of the rebellion already being planted. Especially with three houses. The Stormlands, Riverlands, and the Reach. The Stormlands did get an alternate wedding but only after an uprising and trial by combat. Both the Riverlands and the Reach did not have the Royal weddings promised. The North at this point is still waiting on their wedding promised during the Dance.
Now look at both of regions actions during the war. The Riverland’s split down the middle, but the Tully’s married into the Vale and North. It was personal for old Hoster. Now look at the Reach, we should all know Olenna’s promised husband turned out gay, ran off and died. And the fact she still talks about it shows she hasn’t gotten over it. What we tend to forget is her actual husband also was promised a Targaryen princess. Shaera the future wife of her brother Jaehaery’s 2 instead. Is it any wonder that the Reach barely fought and surrendered first chance they had? Remember at this point, Dorne is still in a uprising for Viserys, he is being crowned on Dragonstone, and the Reach just dips their banners. Nor is it hard to understand their push to get Margaery on the throne.
Now the second main part is the Pact of Ice and Fire, of which Fire and Blood gives us the actual requirements, which as soon as you read them in Fire and Blood, negate Rhaegar and Lyanna no matter how it happened, no matter how many children they supposedly had. THEY CANNOT COMPLETE THE PACT.
The Pact itself:
This we do know: Cregan Stark and Jacaerys Velaryon reached an accord, and signed and sealed the agreement that Grand Maester Munkun calls “the Pact of Ice and Fire” in his True Telling***. Like many such pacts, it was to be sealed with a marriage.*** Lord Cregan’s son, Rickon, was a year old. Prince Jacaerys was as yet unmarried and childless, but it was assumed that he would sire children of his own once his mother sat the Iron Throne. Under the terms of the pact, the prince’s firstborn daughter would be sent north at the age of seven, to be fostered at Winterfell until such time as she was old enough to marry Lord Cregan’s heir.
Fire and Blood: The Dying of the Dragons, A Son for a Son
What are the terms exactly and why this tells us who Jon Snow will end the series with:
The pact is to be sealed with a marriage under very specific criteria. The child of the future Crown Prince. Not another Targaryen. Meaning, not Viserys, not Dany. Not any of Jacaerys Velaryon brothers or siblings, nieces, nephews. The child of the direct future king. In our current story, Crown Prince Rhaegar’s child. Not a run off and marry, nor a kidnapping and possible marriage. Nor can a hidden marriage under a heart tree count during the Dance**.** It is the Stark heir marrying the Targaryen Prince’s Firstborn Daughter. The key point of this is the firstborn Targaryen Princess Rhaenys is DEAD. As is the Stark heir Robb. Both the firstborns. Who is next? Jon Snow which is the Targaryen male heir, so as prince/princess is interchangeable in Valyrian, it flips the roles. Meaning on the Stark side a female at this point. Sansa Stark as she is the oldest before Arya**.** Strangely these are the only two children who were not raised by Eddard to be close siblings. Unlike every other sibling. And the one who we see in throughout the series who is only wanted for her claim to Winterfell. Of which Jon is the only one in the entire series who has turned down the chance to claim it because she is the heir. Layers upon layers of story tying in to the Pact.
And as some added facts, in the last books, when Jon answers Stannis over claiming Winterfell he says, Winterfell belongs to my sister Sansa. Over and Over. She is missing and presumed dead by the whole continent. The only “known” surviving Stark is ARYA STARK. He should be saying Winterfell belongs to my sister Arya at this point. The second is the setup for the Jon/Sansa/Tyrion triangle. Jon Sansa meet, then later Tyrion wants his wife back. Like the outline originally had with Jon/Arya/Tyrion.
2. The Prince’s Firstborn Daughter would be sent North at the age of seven to be fostered at Winterfell until she was old enough to marry the Stark heir. This is a super important clue. For several reasons I’ll lay out. First is the obvious, they would indeed grow up in the same castle as their future spouse. Destroying any of the fandom’s calls of they see each other as siblings thinking, or not seeing each other that way because they grew up together**. They were always planned to grow up together in the same castle. Martin himself wrote it this way from the beginning, through the outline, through the changes between outline and books, and fully gives us the requirement in Fire and Blood, which tells us it is still being set up to happen.**
In the books we are shown 2 characters who desire to rebuild Winterfell, rebuild the family with children named their siblings names. And we have EXACTLY 2 WHO ARE REFERRED TO AS BLOOD OF WINTERFELL. Layers upon Layers. All based on the Pact of Ice and Fire.
At this point we need to verify that we are looking at Martin’s original intent to see if we are still on the same track, so let’s look at what he planned in the leaked outline. There is no Jon/Dany romance in the original outline. But it flat out calls for a JON/ARYA romance. With a JON/ARYA/Tyrion love triangle. With one key thing we ignore, yes, it is supposed to horrify the characters. The Starks just went all incest love is supposed to horrify the reader too.
UNTIL THE PARENTAGE REVEAL. MEANING THE PARENTAGE REVEAL MAKES IT NOW GOOD AND ALL IS WELL. Which flat out takes Ned and all possible parentage options with him off the table. They cannot be actual siblings. Now what do we also know? The story has indeed changed, but many aspects are still roughly the same but performed by different people. There is also still the setup for a Jon/Stark/Tyrion triangle. Martin changed the plan by having Tyrion end up married to the oldest Stark daughter instead of the really close sibling. And Jon repeatedly asked if he would get frisky with his sister. (Avoids answering). With hints from Melissandre that they might be a bit bigger in Jon’s heart than he likes to let on. Arya was split into Arya and the new version of Sansa. This is key, because both Jon and Arya still see themselves as SIBLINGS. Think back to the original outline once again. Is Sansa and Arya’s stories the same? Good god no. But what is roughly the same? The Jon/Stark Daughter/Tyrion set up. Leading into a Jon/Stark Daughter relationship with the parentage reveal.
Remember Ygritte asking Jon if he would bang his sister? Kinda what the hell, until the Pact comes into play. Yes, Jon will be banging a sister. And as we see, he is pretty down with it. Most people would just say no and move on, not try to find reasons he can…
She punched him. “That’s vile. Would you bed your sister?” “Longspear’s not your brother.” “He’s of my village. You know nothing, Jon Snow. A true man steals a woman from afar, t’ strengthen the clan. Women who bed brothers or fathers or clan kin offend the gods, and are cursed with weak and sickly children. Even monsters.”
“Craster weds his daughters,” Jon pointed out.
Jon just quit deflecting the question, would you bed your sister? Not, well Craster weds his daughters…. Guess if he does it then it’s good enough for Jon to get a sister or two…
Will Dany and Jon meet? Hell yes, the others basically ensure that. Both are heads of the Dragon. But both have different stories, that will converge based on the stories in Fire and Blood and the unavoidable confrontation set in the main series, but not as a romantic item. Look at Martin’s books. He has been setting Dany up with what we debate is either FAegon, or Aegon from the very beginning. Love or War, we will see. We will go over that later. But as we all know, there will be a second Dance.
3. Now for a detail most have missed. The age 7 that is the start of the official fostering. Martin has actually covered even this in Jon’s story as a bastard of Eddard Stark**. Jon was not born in 283.** He was born at the end of 281. He is Aegon Targaryen. He was indeed handed over to Lord Stark at age 7. Exactly as the Pact required.
“By wing? We have no trained ravens. No, I knew your face. I’ve seen it before. Twice.” It made no sense at first, but as Jon turned it over in his mind, dawn broke. “When you were a brother of the Watch …” “Very good! Yes, that was the first time. You were just a boy, and I was all in black, one of a dozen riding escort to old Lord Commander Qorgyle when he came down to see your father at Winterfell. I was walking the wall around the yard when I came on you and your brother Robb. It had snowed the night before, and the two of you had built a great mountain above the gate and were waiting for someone likely to pass underneath.” “I remember,” said Jon with a startled laugh. A young black brother on the wallwalk, yes … “You swore not to tell.” “And kept my vow. That one, at least.”
I’ll explain more on that later. But the entire thing went down, and the prophecy is still being played out, even as characters try to change and influence it. But as Dalla said, prophecy is like a sword without a hilt, there is no safe way to grasp it. Basically its FATE. As we see, every time a character tries to change fate, they end up making it come true. But back to how Jon’s age is made to be after Robb’s.
But for this we must first turn to the very first pages of Fire and Blood. Throughout the story we have been told Bastards grow faster. Jon as a bastard grew faster according to Maester Luwin. And its utter horseshit. Until you realize, Jon is older than he is portrayed. And Maester Luwin is covering for Ned and protecting Jon. How can Eddard get away with it? Wouldn’t Catelyn know?
No, she would not. It’s made plain she didn’t really have much to do with Jon. First look at Bran’s description of Robb compared to Jon. And Jon’s complaints on Joffery. Jon and Robb are older, but Joffery is taller than both. Also, as Jon says when he was leaving Bran’s room to go to the wall, it was the first time she really looked at him, and the first time she called him by his name. Jon was raised by a wet nurse, Luwin, and Old Nan. By servants, and Ned Stark. Not by Catelyn. The story works because she was not involved.
He was at the door when she called out to him. “Jon,” she said*. He should have kept going,* but she had never called him by his name before. He turned to find her looking at his face, as if she were seeing it for the first time.
AGOT, Jon 2
As if she were seeing it for the first time. This is not a “mother” figure who has anything to do with this kid. And after she truly looks at Jon’s face? Still Ashara. Still the Dornish lady. Not Lyanna.
But back to Jon’s age. We all know Martin hates dates. But he has given us enough hard dates to figure out the births. And he has answered a question about the difference between Dany and Jon’s births. And it is key. Closer to 9 months than a year or greater separating Jon and Dany births. Meaning 9-10 months at the most between births. To have Jon born at the Tower of Joy, we are closer to 5-6 months.
We have the latest possible time frame of 2 weeks Rhaella could be impregnated by Aerys. The two weeks between the Trident and the Fall of King’s Landing. The very last time Rhaella and Aerys was in the same location. And the last weeks Aerys was alive. Either Dany is wrong about being born 9 months after her mother fled to Dragonstone, or Jon is not born months after this at the Tower of Joy with Ned somehow managing to arrive at exactly the right minute after travelling all over the continent, or BOTH births are WRONG. Meaning Dany is not Aerys child at all. Which would make sense as people only see Ashara and Rhaegar in her. As Rhaella is known to be pregnant in the timeframe for it to be considered Aerys child, there was indeed a child. But think Aegon Targaryen that is with Jon Connington. The one who while supposed to be between 18-19 in 300 AC, Tyrion thinks looks 15-16 in 300 AC. That’s a big difference. Especially as he has a set birthdate of at the end of 281. A Targaryen indeed, but of Aerys and Rhaella. Martin’s wife was right. Martin does not do simple.
But everyone wonders if Aegon is real or fake? If Dany is not the child of Rhaella? Who is? Why would Elia allow Varys to save her son, but leave her daughter to be killed? Historically Princess Rhaenys was the one Targaryen that should not have been in danger. She was female. She should have been kept as a hostage, or even married to the winners family to help prevent rebellions. Martin has expressly told us who Dany’s parents are already. Ashara and Rhaegar. Which means she is the child that was conceived around the time of Harrenhall or within a month afterwards. Which lines up perfectly with Jon’s birth if he is the true Aegon in the story, born pretty closely in the aftermath of Harrenhall right before the turning of the new year of 282. According to Barristan Dany has Ashara’s eyes. Unlike Robert, who cannot remember what Lyanna even looks like, Barristan can see Ashara perfectly. He was indeed in love with her. So much so that when he looks at Dany, it is like looking at Ashara’s daughter.
Even after all these years, Ser Barristan could still recall Ashara’s smile, the sound of her laughter. He had only to close his eyes to see her, with her long dark hair tumbling about her shoulders and those haunting purple eyes. Daenerys has the same eyes. Sometimes when the queen looked at him, he felt as if he were looking at Ashara’s daughter … But Ashara’s daughter had been stillborn, and his fair lady had thrown herself from a tower soon after, mad with grief for the child she had lost, and perhaps for the man who had dishonored her at Harrenhal as well.
ADWD The Kingbreaker
And over and over, we see that she has Rhaegar’s face.
“should rhaegar have expected this much from his father” Y E S the man hadn’t bathed or cut his nails & hair in years, he absolutely should have realized that suddenly disappearing with the daughter of a lord paramount was going to spark something insane in his father’s brain. he’s been trying to overthrow the man legally for a number of years and he thinks disappearing for months on end will have no affect on aerys, who KNOWS rhaegar has been trying to legally put him aside?? rhaegar is dumb i’m tired of people pretending like he isn’t. you can think well if his intentions without ignoring the fact that he was a fucking dumb ass.

T&t Anakin being a little bitch right now lol. He is throwing such a tantrum. Fuck ahsoka! Fuck his troops! Fuck the ppl that rely on him! ONE person made him upset so he's gonna fuck off forever. You've really mastered his personality. He certainly would blow everything up over one person (rots cough cough)
(2/2) I don't know why but I genuinely thought before this chapter that Anakin was actually going to think about his actions and what he was doing. From your tidbits I knew he decided to leave and I've no idea why I was under the impression it was a decision that Anakin had poured over and given the correct amount of contemplation. Like maybe he thinks he's not fit to be a Jedi because he'd chosen the path of revenge? Nope! He just wants to hurt Obi-Wan in the meanest way possible! Man-child Anakin activated!
oo ho ho this is such an interesting ask/reaction!! one of the reasons i really liked writing this last chapter is because anakin is just absolutely spiraling apart and as much as he can admit to himself that he feels betrayed and lost and empty and burning with rage, he also doesn't take the next step to admit that maybe any decisions he makes right now aren't going to be of sound mind and any new information he learns is going to be processed through that lens of anger and betrayal
i think him leaving the order can be put down to him having lost trust in obi-wan - and obi-wan is the order for him, obi-wan represents the entire order. there's no way he feels like he can stay because obi-wan deceived him and obi-wan chose to put the order above anakin ("when did anakin become less than his utmost important thing?") - and he is angry and he wants to hurt obi-wan ("i want to see his eyes when i tell him it's because of him") but he's also at least a little bit afraid of what he's capable of doing right now - more than representing the order, obi-wan was like the center of his entire world ("what do planets orbit when their sun implodes? nothing. they burn too.") and now he has no center at all because he's that mad at obi-wan. not even just for lying, but i think because the lie proves to him that he's never been loved by the person he has loved the most.
i really like examining the way anakin loves through fics like these and this one in particular because i think it's so....honestly, like. wild crazy. he's so consumed by rage that he was lied to and hurt by his one true love, obi-wan, that he can't see the bigger picture when master windu and master yoda immediately can put aside their emotions and think of what it means for the chancellor that obi-wan will not be undercover as hardeen to protect him ("we are at war, Anakin! This is bigger than your individual feelings of the matter.") and thats true!! they are not in any way wrong but anakin doesnt have the capability of ever seeing the situation like this because he loved obi-wan too much, was too attached, can't let go of what he feels for him--be it anger or love--for even a moment to consider the bigger picture
which he's never been able to do in this fic. i mean i think this is almost the natural conclusion to the tantrum anakin had at the very beginning of the fic where he went back to the past in the first place, though i wouldn't necessarily call that a tantrum.
except then he worked through his grief and pain and anger in the past, with the help of young obi-wan, and came back....but now he is filled with grief and pain and anger and he has to go away again to deal with it because the support system he learned to lean on when obi-wan died (the order and obi-wan) can no longer be trusted because obi-wan can no longer be trusted and the entire order is now to be held in suspicion
tldr the premise of the fic is really that he threw a tantrum and ran away from all his responsibilities like ahsoka and his men and the war; he's just doing it again but the target of his grief and rage have changed slightly and his methods of running away are different but this is all very influenced by my understanding of anakin's character and his capacity to accidentally and purposefully hurt those he loves
#asks#t&t#obikin#i love writing unreliable narrator anakin skywalker#because he is so unreliable in this chapter#but no i agree to an extent this decision isnt really thought out and it's because of this one person#but it's also because this one person was like. the center of his entire world#and his understanding of jedi morality and the thing he leaned on and has needed for years#and he feels things sooooo strongly and without reservation in this fic

On that trojan war au thing you're writing. 1. What are the tags for it, cause I'm super interested! And would love to read what you have so far! 2. "And Odysseus is a much grimmer darker man due to his home being one of the places that were first swallowed up by Erebus" - I wanna know more about this. Please tell me more.
Oh , wow, I'm so flattered! I'm very happy it sounds appealing to you <33 This work is a huge passion project of mine so I'm always glad to talk more and more about it, especially since there are many aspects occurring in the background (such as the alternate fates of the main players of the Trojan Conflict) which I cannot properly cover or even explain within the events of the novel itself.
That said: 1) If you mean tags as in ao3 - unfortunately, this work isn't on ao3 my friend :( As I said above, these are elements and concepts in the greek mythology based-fantasy novel I'm currently writing (the concept of which I outlined here in the introductory post of my novel concept!) As for wanting to read whatever writing I currently have available: I currently have three fics available on ao3 that are written in my Pursuing Daybreak verse!
The Prince and Princess series deal with a young Apollo and Artemis and the many consequences they face after Apollo has slain Python. The two works uploaded right now are Exeunt Phoebus Apollo which covers the murder trial of Python and Manent Apanchomene Artemis which covers the intense feelings of helplessness and alienation Artemis experiences after Apollo returns from his banishment and is completely changed. Both of these have themes of family, grief and relationship exploration at their heart.
The third bit of writing I have up is quite outdated but does cover the immediate aftermath of Hyacinthus' death. It's called A Petal Falleth and features Apollo making one of those Big Silly Decisions that have completely unintended but extremely important consequences: namely, instead of the larkspurs being made of Hyacinthus' spilt blood, Apollo anchors the boy's soul to the flowers so Thanatos wouldn't take him. Like the Dawn is also set in this world but because it is nsfw in nature, I wouldn't recommend it as easily as the other three bits of writing. If you don't mind the whole naked men thing though, I'd definitely suggest reading Like the Dawn for a better idea of what my current writing is like (along with eventually getting to see characters like Hector, Andromache and Cassandra/Helenus) Like the Dawn's themes are also different to the other three works with it focusing more on the power dynamics of a god/mortal relationship, exploring masculinity and masculine sexuality and self discovery.
The running theme here, of course, is that all of these bits of writing are centered on Apollo/Artemis or Hyacinth because my novel itself is centered around them. There are, of course, other important characters and figures like Eros, Psyche, Penthesilea and Iaso (one of Asclepius' daughters) but while there is the definite presence of characters from the Trojan War they most certainly aren't at the center of the novel (and the ones that are aren't the Greeks but rather the Trojans i.e Hector, Alexander, Andromache, Cassandra, Helenus, Aeneas, so on and so forth.)
2) The basis of the apocalypse in my work is cosmological! Due to Apollo's err-- untimely departure, there's no longer anyone maintaining the axis of the heavens or the navel of the earth. Because of this, Erebus - whose darkness is usually kept firmly in the spaces between the realms - begins to spill out into both the heavens and the earth. The beasts of Erebus (referring primarily to the Seven Curses - Old Age, Misery, Deceit, Violence etc etc) consume, torment and destroy whatever is inside of Erebus' darkness and Ithaca, as one of the islands on the far edge of the world, was one of the very first places that were devoured in this manner. Odysseus was visiting the Argives at the time for a festival and had left the pregnant Penelope at home since he didn't want her to suffer through the voyage in discomfort. He only finds out about the destruction of Ithaca after it had already been consumed when Athena personally interrupts a feast to warn both him and Diomedes. Needless to say, Odysseus, like everyone else, assumes that everyone on Ithaca has died and thusly is a very, very different man in terms of humour and comport. A part of him still stubbornly clings to the belief that Penelope managed to escape - that she was smart and resourceful enough to see the end approaching and do her best to escape - but that doesn't stop him from being dour for the majority of the time. Diomedes does his best to keep his spirits up in the meantime. Without him around, Odysseus is something of a black hole when it comes to the oppressiveness of his discontent though he does manage to lighten up when in the company of Helen, Clytemnestra and even Menelaus on occasion.
#ginger answers asks#ginger chats about greek myths#Diomedes did a lot to coax Odysseus out of his initial shock when Athena delivered the news#Pretty much the only thing that stuck was Ody getting into the habit of whittling wooden horses and ships#He used to speak to Penelope's stomach and tell a bunch of stories about his youth and adventures#Now he speaks to himself while he's whittling because it makes him feel like he's still speaking to Telemachus#Ody doesn't grieve Penelope at all btw He refuses to behave like she's dead until the gods personally tell him or he sees a body#DIomedes very much thinks it's unhealthy and is very worried for his bestie but he's very deliberately left that topic for Helen#and Clytemnestra to deal with. ah the parallels
#first between light and l#where light knows l wasnt above testing the validity of the notebook in order to 'beat the game' and admires / respects him for it#because l is like light in many respects esp when it comes to his pride and willingness to play dirty#and there is no one light loves or admires more than himself#(tho i would say one of the reasons L's character isn't completely scathed by these flaws / similarities is that he knows#that he lowkey sucks and chill with it while light would write a reddit essay#in third person to defend himself)#(i.e. L knows exactly who he is and understands that others may not agree with him but is willing to damage his image#for the sake of the case. while light needs everyone to think he's the most moral and intelligent person in the room at all times#while lying through his teeth in order to maintain said image)#and secondly between l and near#where near proves that despite everything he will surpass l#by defeating light with a 'perfect victory'#one where no one needs to be sacrificed while still truly destroying kira by destroying light's ego.#L wanted to win. Near wanted to defeat kira#i have converted to the near defense team heehee#perhaps near won because never once did he admire light. he is not similar to light because light is a criminal and a loser#L's loss was likely due to his becoming too close to light. obviously he recognized light was kira the entire time but#i think he got too caught up in finally finding someone like him. near also cites L getting personally involved as a reason he lost#idk it's all very interesting.#also light assuming l's identity after his death. he gets to be his two favorite people!#to be clear i dont think L is some monstrous example of moral decay. he represents the system and works within it to bring kira to 'justice#we see the flexibility in that system during the second arc. 'justice' is whatever light mikami l or near decides it is. justice is who win#ig the best way to put it is that i see light has having a self-centered morality in that he'll twist anything to justify his actions#even if on the surface he claims they're for society's benefit#while L has an ends-justify-the-means approach and works within the system.#his actions aren't coated in quite as much narcissism as light's beliefs lol#+ he doesnt necessarily claim solving the case is for society's benefit. he plainly states it's because he finds it interesting#meanwhile near makes several remarks about how much he hates the world under kira. for him it's not about narcissicm at all#tbh soichiro i think is supposed to represent the moral backbone of the series. anyone who has/uses the power to kill is cursed

Danny accidentally becomes the Ghost king, The president and the BIGGEST threat to Bruce's social status.
Pt 1 Danny becomes the Ghost king
"Fenton's were never allowed to have a "normal" life, we are either extremely successful or extremely unsuccessful, there is no in between. Maybe a spirit cursed us back in the days, but who knows, but one things for sure, all Fenton's will definitely make the news."
-Grandma Fenton from whatever generation
Danny's starting to believe that now. He used to think that it wasn't true, but now? He used to wish to have a normal life, be a good normal son with good grades an be an astronaut one day.
But like they said, a Fenton is either EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL OR EXTREMELY UNSUCCESSFUL.
He was EXTREMELY UNSUCCESSFUL in that.
Instead of a normal life he turned a half ghost teen superhero. But oh well, the Fenton's were also known for their ability to go with the flow
But how in the world did the flow get him here???
In Danny's defense, he wasn't really expecting this. The only thing in his mind at the moment was keeping his town and his people safe from pariah. He just wanted to get rid of the rotten fruitloop. He was EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL, so successful in fact that he ended up becoming Ghost king.
The fudge????
But okay, sure, he didn't wanna become king but if he also didn't want to give up the crown for others to take, what if an evil person becomes king and attacks amity again?? Fine, he'll be king, he'll figure it out. Just go with the flow.
Surprisingly, not only did he get the crown, he also got THE MONEY. as in literal gold and silver bars, coins and jewelry. Appearantly, one the kings a long long time ago, before at least two generations before pariah had an obsession with MONEY. So the king made a Permanent Royal Degree (a law that cannot be changed by any future kings) that when someone dies and becomes a ghost, 20% of the MONEY that they've acquired in their entire life. (The money turns into an equivalent of ghost currency in the realms but is still physically in the living. Kind of like how the soul is in the realms but the body is the earth. Also, the only reason money exists in the realms is for convenience and a sense of normalcy, it doesn't really have that much value unless the ghosts brings it to the living) would belong to the ghost king.
Basically, it's ghost taxes that only have to be paid once for the entire afterlife. (Or is it more of an entrance fee???)
But anyways, hes got the MONEY.
He's rich now and he thinks, "I have so much money it's disgusting"
So first things first, getting rid of some of it.
By this point, his parents know he's phantom and have changed their opinions on ghosts, instead of attacking they are now looking at ghost like they're equals and try and help them as an apology for hurting them.
They are also looking for a new project to spend time on. A new purpose
So Danny thought, why not give them the money then? Danny proposed to his mom a project to make things that can benefit both ghosts and humans.
Next thing he knows is that he's appearantly funding, building and making:
A ghost job agency
A human job agency
Ghost proof buildings (ghost can't pass through walls, it won't hurt them, just keep em out.)
Ghost proof clothes (overshadowing proof!)
A practical fashion line for ghost and humans (Bullet proof, blast proof etch. Borderline vigilante clothes that look like a civilians day to day outfit)
Homes for ghost and humans
A ghost obsession help center where they can ask humans to help with their obsession.
A school for both ghost and humans.
Liminal 101 because apparently because of the whole, pariah dark and, living in the ghosts kings haunt situation, everyone is liminal now
An entire line of technology that can be used by both ghosts and humans.
A fight arena where ghost and humans can fight for fun.
And so many other things , he can't remember
HIS NAME IS EVERYWHERE . His parents didn't even bother hiding the fact that their son somehow has enough money to fund these projects, everyone knows him now.
He ends up basically owning most of amity park.
And here he thought he wouldn't be the kind of king that expands their territory.
He was extremely UNSUCCESSFUL in that.
#danny phantom#dc x dp#dc x dp crossover#ghost king danny#ghost king au#nothing seems to be going his way#eat the rich#go with flow they said#itll be fun they said#how did it come to this???#danny needs a#therapy#or b#a financial assistant

“batman loves his nightwing” this and “batsibs love nightwing that”, what about the batsibs’ friends / team loving nightwing ‼️‼️
YES!!! They love him!
The thing about Dick Grayson is that he has such a unique quality that just draws people in and holds them captive.
Titans (2016) Issue #26
He has a charisma that's intense. People from all walks of life find themselves just constantly looking at him for friendship, advice, love, guidance, and just something that calls them to him.
It's the impact he has on people that's astounding.
Titans (2016) Issue #27
They love him so much and they respect him so much that his absence is like a huge gaping hole in their chest. People feel lost without him because they've come to rely so heavily on him. Gar and Steel literally only joined because Dick asked.
This is something Roy catches on to and is well-aware of. He practically hounds Dick into creating the Outsiders with him.
Outsiders (2003) Issue #1
But you think Roy is the only one to capitalize on Dick's Nightwing effect? Hell no.
Titans East Special
Dick isn't just a person. He's a home. He's the guiding hand and the ship's steer control. He's special to people because he's everything they want him to be. He's their lover, best friend, brother, and partner. Whatever role they're missing in life they find it him him because he makes himself versatile enough to fill whatever they're looking for.
Dark Crisis Issue #1
We say batsibs' teams but he's the whole Justice community's everything. He fills the connections of both Batman's side and Superman's side.
He IS the most well-connected person in the entire community.
Teen Titans (2003) Issue #23
Look at what Kon says -
"Nightwing and Starfire brought wave two. Which is just about everyone whose ever been a Titan. It's a natural thing when Nightwing shows up. None of us are conscious of it, really--but we all look to him for orders. Robin's lucky."
The sheer respect. That Kon has for Nightwing is indomitable. Oh, but you think that's all?
Do you know what the superhero community says about Nightwing? Kon will tell you what they think -
Teen Titans (2003) Issue #33
The Titans (1999) Issue #39
He calls. They answer.
Hero-worship of Nightwing is canonically universal. Renaming this the Nightwing Effect
Epilson
The Titans (1999)
Red Condor
Nightwing (2016) Annual #3
Hutch
Nightwing (2016) Issue #75
Kara
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #49
Supergirl (2005) Issue #3
And sometimes this means more than friendship love but still born out of respect. It's so funny to me how Dick goes around friendzoning people.
Cassie
Even when people don't like what he wants they still do it because they respect him. Because he had an impact on them and they were were moved
Titans (2003) Issue #89
Aquaman, Ollie, John (Green Lantern)
JLA (1997) Issue #121
Kyle Rayner
Even people he's just met are like - this guy's pretty good!
Green Lantern (1990) Issue #81
Coming from a Green Lantern comic!! Not even a Wondergirl, Wonderwoman, Batman, or Nightwing writer. A green lantern!
Speaking of which, when Hal Jordon dies, a list of people are selected to be The Hal Jordon's replacement and guess who it is?
Action Comics (1938) Issue #642
Hal forces his soul back into his body and comes back to life but DC does a "what-if" thing and shows what it would be like if Dick actually became a Green Lantern.
Superman/Batman Issue #60
AND BRUCE'S REACTION!! His most favorite son combined with one of his least favorite people 🤣🤣
Superman/Batman Issue #60
But Bruce's faith in Dick actually elavtes his opinion of Hal.
ALSO!!-
Superman/Batman Issue #61
I JUST KNOW THAT BRUCE WAS WRITHING IN JEALOUSY!!
But anyway, shows to prove that no matter who Dick is and what identity he takes, he will always be the love of the hero community. Because in this world, each member is a combination of the Justice League AND the Titans.
Superman/Batman Issue #60
Yet Dick is still the center of it all.
A literal god
Nightwing (2016) Issue #49
Jon and the hero community
Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis Issue #1
"It would mean a LOT to people if you came and said--" "You're all overreacting." "We need you."
"You're all overreacting." - Clearly, this isn't the first time someone has already come to Dick about being the center of the community.
Not just by the batfam, but for everyone Dick is the most beloved person in the community. That is a fact.

This is going to be very ranty and disjointed, probably borderline incomprehensible post, but with the "return" of Dragon Age Discourse (and really, did it ever go anywhere?) and me repeatedly seeing the complaints and dismissals of DA:I as a "chosen one"-type of a narrative, I just.... I keep finding myself thinking about the relationship of truth and lies within the game.
Throughout the course of DA:I, the idea of a malleable, flexible personal identity, and a painful confrontation with an uncomfortable truth replacing a soothing falsehood, follows pretty much every character throughout their respective arcs.
There are some more obvious ones, Solas, Blackwall, The Iron Bull, their identities and deceptions (of both those around them and themselves) are clearly front and center in the stories told about them, but this theme of deception (both of the self- and the outside world) is clearly present in the stories of the others as well.
Like, for example, ones that come immediately to mind are stories like that of Cullen, who presents an image of a composed and disciplined military man, a commander- all to hide the desperate and traumatized addict that he sees himself as.
Dorian grappled with the expectations of presenting the image of the perfect heir to his father's legacy, the prideful scion of his house, his entire life (he even introduces himself as the result of "careful breeding", like one might speak about a prized horse)- all while knowing that his family would rather see him lobotomized and obedient, than anything even just resembling his vibrant and passionate self.
Cassandra calls herself a Seeker of Truth, and takes pride in that identity- only to learn that in reality, she has been made a liar, a keeper of secrets, without her knowledge or consent, and it is up to her to either uproot the entire organization and painfully cut out the abscess it is to build it back from the ground up into something respectable, or let the information she had revealed sit, and continue to fester.
And this theme continues and reframes itself in, among others, things like Sera's own inner conflict between her elven heritage and her human upbringing, or in Cole being caught in this unconscionable space in-between human and spirit, between person and concept, etc.
The Inquisitor isn't exempt from this either.
I feel like this is where the core of the many misunderstandings of this plot come from, why so many people continue to believe that Inquisition is a "chosen one" or "divinely appointed" type of story, because I think many might just... not realize, that the protagonist's identity is also malleable, and what they are told in the setup/first act of the game is not necessarily the truth.
The tale of the Inquisitor is the exact opposite of that of a "chosen one" story: it's an examination and reflection of the trope, in that it is the story of an assumption that all wrongly believe to be the truth, and thrust upon you, even if you protest. The very point is that no matter who you choose to say that you are, you will be known as the Herald of a prophet you don't even necessarily believe in, and then that belief will be proven wrong, leaving you to cope with either a devastating disappointment if you believed it, or a bitter kind of vindication if you didn't.
There's a moment just after Here Lies the Abyss (when you learn of the lie you've been fed your entire journey in the game) that I don't often see mentioned, but I think it's one of the most emotionally impactful character moments, if you are playing an Andrastian Inquisitor who had actually believed themselves chosen (which I realize is a rather unpopular pick, lol): it's when Ser Ruth, a Grey Warden, realizes what she had done and is horrified by her own deeds, and turns herself in asking to be tried for the murder of another of her order. As far as she is concerned, she had spilled blood for power, and regardless of whether she was acting of her own volition at the time, whether she had agency in the moment, is irrelevant to her: she seeks no absolution, but willingly submits to any punishment you see fit.
And only if you play as an Inquisitor who, through prior dialogue choices, had established themselves as a devout Andrastian, can you offer her forgiveness, for a deed that was objectively not her fault- not really.
You can, in Andraste's name, forgive her- even though you, at that point, know that you have no real right to do so. That you're not Andraste's Herald, that Andraste may or may not even exist, and that you can't grant anyone "divine forgiveness", because you, yourself, don't have a drop of divinity within you. You know that you were no more than an unlucky idiot who stumbled their way into meddling with forces beyond their ken.
You know you're a fraud. You know. The game forces you to realize, as it slowly drip-drip-drips the memories knocked loose by the blast back into your head, that what all have been telling you that you are up to this point, is false. And yet, you can still choose to keep up the lie, and tell this woman who stands in front of you with blood on her hands and tears in her eyes, that you, with authority you don't have, grant her forgiveness for a crime that wasn't hers to commit.
Because it's the right thing to do. Because to lie to Ser Ruth is far kinder than anything else you could possibly do to her, short of refusing to make a decision altogether.
There are any number of criticisms of this game that I can accept (I may or may not agree depending on what it is, but I'm from the school of thought that any interpretation can be equally valid as long as there's text that supports it, and no text that contradicts it), but I will always continue to uphold that the Inquisitor is absolutely not- and never was a "chosen one".
They're just as small, and sad, and lost, as all the other protagonists- the only difference is that they didn't need to fight for their mantle, because instead of a symbol of honor, it acted as a straitjacket.
#squirrel plays dragon age#dragon age#dragon age: inquisition#idk i'm just musing#talking basically to myself here i know#ignore me lol i'm just in my feelings about this game#i might tack onto this the like. 3k word jumble of circular arguments i have written down somewhere#about the moral responsibility and culpability of the vampire spawn in bg3#because i have a lot of thoughts about that too#or the couple hundred words i have in my back pocket about dragon age's unique treatment of godhood and divinity in general

like we all dunk on jon for being completely unqualified (fair and true) but so was everyone. fandom seemed to take tim at face value that sasha was qualified for the job and while she definitely had seniority on jon, the girl was also fucking stapling random sheets of paper together when a single google search will tell you to absolutely not do that. tim was an ex-corporate drone who was only there to revenge-kill a regency clown and martin just straight up lied about his qualifications because he didn’t have any. gertrude was the most qualified woman alive to commit acts of violence that violated the geneva convention but from an actual literal standpoint she was a terrible fucking archivist. at age 20 she received supernatural job security and a blank check for a budget funded by a man scared shitless of her and that defined her approach to employment for the rest of her life. her number one hobby was arson and her number two hobby was keeping secrets. not only did she never do any archiving I guarantee you she did not even know what an archivist was. queen of doing any fucking job but the one you hired her for. I’m in love with her.
the fact that the eye is shown to be actively opposed to the loss or destruction of knowledge is borderline hilarious to me considering the closest thing it has had to an actually qualified employee for the Special Room Where It Keeps Its Knowledge in at least the last century was that one guy who was too busy being a simp for a serial murderer and gouging out his own fucking eyes to have any long-term effect on the non-spooky parts of the position. the most shocking part of jon getting the job is not the blatant lack of qualifications but the fact that elias was able to choke out the offer over the eye beaming the same anxiety attack over document storage that it’s been having since the vietnam war directly into his little twink skull
#tma#jon Sims#gertrude Robinson#tim stoker#look jon ‘im going to do some general archiving’ sims had no clue how to be an archivist and no qualifications for it either#but at least he tried and I guarantee that is more effort than Gertrude EVER put into the job#there are multiple occasions where tapes or books are missing because Gertrude straight up would just burn that shit#she took the position of Head Preserving Things Person and used the budget to buy explosives#she would literally do the opposite of her job title at every possible occasion I am obsessed with her#her nomination of Sasha as most qualified for Archivist only counts for the spooky parts of the job#if we’re talking about the literal job title it does not count#i refuse to believe Gertrude has ever archived anything a day in her life and also her entire reasoning was based on the spooky part#sasha was shown to be more of a computer scientist than a library scientist#and she was absolutely not qualified to be a literal archivist#the eye staring down at the direct center of Jonah Magnus’s head: jonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonah#elias fucking sweating and trying to hold it together long enough to convince this half feral twink from research to take a job he is#absolutely not cut out for so he can injure his soul to the point of ending the world: jon you’re the best man for the job#the eye boring down on him like the sword of damocles: outsidehirejonahoutsidehireoutsidehireoutsidehireoutsidehire#jonah whose only hiring criteria is that spiders tried to eat you in childhood: it has to be you Jon there’s no one else I would rather have#the eye who’s still bitter that Eric Delano turned out to be a mildly okay father and a little freak who was super into sociopathic killers:#librarysciencesdegreeJonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonahjonah#au where Jon never became the Archivist because the horrible fucking preservation of their records meant all the statements deteriorated too#much for him to read#the eye seemed to actively punish Jon for destroying Gerry’s page and Jon was so reluctant because all his knowledge would be lost#it was super not okay with shit being destroyed or left to deteriorate#a qualified Archivist is never hired because Jonah magnus is also unqualified and has no idea how archiving works#jonah: spiders tried to eat him he’s perfect#the eye breathing into the eldritch equivalent of a paper bag: he uses the wrong kind of paperclips jonahjonahjonahjonahjonah

Have you read/watched Nimona? If so, thoughts?
The kind of emotional gutpunch I can't bear to watch without ample preparation. The first ten minutes are the hard part for me - it's always a wrench for me to get through a "good-hearted character is cruelly framed" plotline, so I really appreciate how quickly they get that out of the way and how Nimona immediately brightens the mood when she shows up.
Overall, truly one of the best examples of how a creator can use their personal grief and rage at injustice as a medium to sculpt a story. The narrative manages to feel deeply authentic to a real emotional journey while still feeling completely contained within the story. I'm not entirely sure how to put this, but sometimes when a writer gets allegorical with their experiences, it can feel like the story gets put on pause so the characters can turn out to the audience and speak in the author's voice about their thoughts on the subject - a pretty clumsy way to communicate a message. Nimona does not do that. Instead, the many real-world parallels to bigotry, propaganda, queerphobia, church corruption, xenophobia, and regressive policies driven by terror of change feel like they arise naturally from the setting within the story rather than being imposed on it from the outside, which is extremely quality writing and characterization. Nimona's story is so clearly informed by ND Stevenson's life and gender journey, but Nimona herself feels like her own person who is messy and grieving and putting up walls and self-destructing and still - still - a fundamentally joyful, gleeful person who absolutely loves being alive when she isn't being brutally beaten down for the crime of existing inconveniently.
Also, it's a comparatively minor thing, but I really like how, like with She-Ra, Nimona creates a world that is passively non-homophobic, with gay relationships front and center and evidently regarded as completely fine and not worth commenting on - which, to me at least, made both stories remarkably relaxing and comfortable to immerse myself in, because I wasn't being randomly jumpscared by reminders of real-world hate - but it still uses allegory to address the real-world roots of homophobia in the form of xenophobia, correlated injustices like classism, and the monster-ification of The Other. So it can clearly state "hating people for how they exist is Always Fucked And Wrong" without having to dunk the queer audience in the icebath of "hey remember how people in the real world think you personally should be dead?" Again, not sure I'm phrasing this super clearly, but it's a balance ND Stevenson consistently strikes with his work, and I really love how he does it.
Animation's gorgeous, voicework is consistently top-shelf, love the aesthetic of Cyberpunk Arthuriana. Wins across the board.

Hi!
As some of you might know, southern Brazil, specifically the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has been struck by heavy rains and a consequential flood. The rains started on monday (29/abr) and only stopped today (5/mai), in Porto Alegre ─ the state capital, and the city i live in ─ and in the other cities nearby.
The lake that borders PoA (named Guaíba) has reached more than 5m up its normal level. This is higher than on the historic 1941 flood. The city's center ─ a big residential and commercial hub, beyond being the host of most of our public services (such as the city hall and the state government) ─ is completely taken by the water. Many other neighbourhoods were also affected.
Smaller cities that also border Guaíba were even more heavily affected, such as Eldorado do Sul, whose territory was almost 100% flooded.
The state is, for a lack of a better word, abandoned by the people that were supposed to aid.
Our governor, Eduardo Leite, is more worried about his plitical campaign ─ making dramatic videos, changing his facebook pfp to one of him with a public defense vest, making streams with no useful information ─ than with the people's lives. This year, he destinated only R$50.000 (~ USD250.000) for the Civil Defense. For the entire year. He is now, delegating the responsibility of recuperating our state to the Federal Government, stating that "the rbuilding of the RS will demand a Marshall Project".
Porto Alegre's mayor, Sebastião Mello, has vanished. He sold our city out to big enterprises ─ Melnick, Zaffari and Panvel, mainly ─, and hasn't destined any public resources to maintaining the Mauá wall (a wall built after the 1941 flood with a system made to protect the city from other floods), which caused many points to fail and the water to invade the city.
This is the danger we all face with a neoliberal system.
Neoliberalism is an individualist ideology. All these people and companies I named did close to nothing to help us. Or even made it worse. The Civil Defense, for example, published a map of all the areas that would be affected, but had to take it back, since it didn't consider the topography.
Its the people for the people.
This situation is being aided by people using their own resources. Donations of various natures and volunteer work. It is very beautiful, in a way. It shows that colaboration and union can do great things. It shows, at least to me, that the world can reach, one day, a self sustaining way of living, contrary to the ultra-individualistic capitalism some preach. Humans can, and are, good.
But it also lays out how much the people that govern us failed us.
Human lives were lost because of their negligency.
This flood isn't normal. It is a product of the huge levels of degradation multi-billionaire companies are causing the world, supported by higher class and their representatives. Eduardo Leite changed almost 500 points of our state's Environmental Code, for the worst, when he was first elected in 2019. His actions, and the actions of all other neoliberal politicians, such as our ex-president Bolsonaro, are what created this situation. They are responsible for everything that is going on here.
This flood isnt the only environmental crisis this state has faced in the last 6 months. This isn't the last one that will happen.
This text is, beyond a personal vent, a warning. We need to keep fighting against a system that is actively trying to kill us. Please, do not support ideals and people ─ especially if said people will rule you ─ that go against the environment, that preach that the capital, the money, the posesions, are more important than lives. Of the people, of the animals, of the environment. Fight for a better world, i know there can be one.
Always be aware of the climate in your areas. Things like this won't happen only here. Please be safe.

reading everyone’s thoughts on the london special and marinette’s actions have given me a serious case of deja vu in relation to the s5 finale, here’s why
a very very VERY common reaction from the fandom i saw to the finale was “why are the writers letting gabriel get away with being a hero why isn’t he being held accountable horrible finale horrible writing i hate this show etc etc etc”
before i share my thoughts on this for like the thousandth time i just wanna mention i DID cry during the finale, partly because i was in shock and also because i HATED it. but now i genuinely believe it was one of if not the smartest thing the ml writers have ever conjured up and i just. fucking love it. (point is: i understand disliking it. that was me at some point, until i began to consider the implications of the “ending”)
similarly, a reaction i’ve seen to the london special (mainly from ml salters) is “why would the writers let marinette lie to the world when it’s so clearly morally wrong she’s such a horrible person she needs to be held accountable blah blah blah”
something both the s5 finale and the london special share is that THE ACTIONS THAT TAKE PLACE IN BOTH. ARE NOT MEANT. TO SIT WELL WITH THE AUDIENCE
NO writer on ml is trying to convince a fan that “gabriel was actually a hero because he made one selfless decision (that wasn’t even that selfless?????)”. NO writer on ml is trying to convince a fan that “marinette is completely right for hiding the truth about gabriel from not only adrien but also the whole world!!!!!! no one should ever find out!!!”
the entire point of the finale and special is to make the viewer uncomfortable, as we watch marinette sit with her questionable choices, watch adrien refer to his father as a hero and watch their class throw a party. none of this is supposed to make us feel at peace with the way this arc has concluded.
what people seem to be missing is that even if the s1-s5 arc has ended, the s6 arc is just beginning, CENTERED AROUND THE CHOICES THAT HAVE MADE US AS THE AUDIENCE FEEL SO UNCOMFORTABLE!! you’re completely ignoring the way the plot is set up if you think the writers are going to neglect gabriel’s storyline, because it is far from over.
i think it’s also important to mention that neither marinette nor adrien are at peace with what’s happened (even if that was implied during the s5 finale—the london special has provided us with this new information on their emotional statuses). marinette is clearly being eaten alive by guilt, seeking confirmation throughout the entire special that protecting adrien from the truth was the morally correct decision. adrien was obviously affected by his father’s death (contrasting the idea that he just “threw a party” without any emotional backlash), and will undoubtedly learn to grapple with his conflicting feelings on gabriel’s character throughout s6 (he sacrificed himself??? but he abused me??? but he saved ladybug and nathalie????? but he apparently assisted monarch?????)
POINT IS
no one is meant to be satisfied with the way things are in the miraculous universe at the moment. you aren’t supposed to want the truth about what really went down during recreation to stay hidden. if you feel uncomfortable with the current situation our main characters are in, GOOD! please stop the discrediting the writers, because your discomfort means they have done their job well.
#if you read all of that ily#i love the writing of miraculous. if you don’t that’s okay.#HOWEVER the writers clearly know what they’re doing because i have NEVER been so excited for a new season like i am for s6#GET HYPE PEOPLE MORE ANGST MORE QUESTIONABLE CHOICES MORE LIES MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! YAYYY#however if you have thoughts on the new animation……..well. that is a different story#ml#miraculous#miraculous ladybug#ladynoir#ladybug#chat noir#mlb#miraculous fandom#adrien agreste#marichat#ladrien#adrienette#marinette#marinette dupain cheng#ml london#ml london special#ml london spoilers#ml s5#ml s5 finale#ml recreation

Astarion and Agency- The Necessity of Discomfort to Self Discovery and the Infantilization of Victims
Minor Astarion discourse ahead that mentions the treatment of SA victims post-abuse:
I want to open this post up just with like. The statement that I don't think there is a correct way to enjoy media and that I LOVE to see individual head cannons and takes on characters in media. I think that is also, to a degree, an integral part of video games because of how unique the experience of playing a game will be to every person who plays it. But it has been making me feel so incredibly sad looking through fan content, art, or discourse for BG3 specifically because of how many people have taken the route of infantilizing Astarion.
I understand the instinct to shield or protect an individual that you love and care for. I also understand that because of the nature of the things that Astarion goes through, a lot of people also feel very deep emotional stakes in him. I'm one of the many fans of the character who is a victim of SA and CSA, I really do get it. That is also why for me personally it is so demoralizing to watch so many people treat him like he is a child who cannot make his own decisions or stand up for himself. Part of that frustration stems from it feeling like a media literacy issue, and the other part of that sense of defeat is just because it feels indicative of a broader attitude that people seem to hold towards victims of abuse, particularly those who are victims of SA.
To explain what I mean by people infantilizing him: I see so many people refuse to allow him the opportunity to be hurt, or to feel uncomfortable. They see this character who has been through an immensely horrible and traumatic experience, and their instinct is to try and shield him from anything else that has the potential to upset him. I get that the people who want that aren't doing it with malicious intent, but frankly it is not really...Helpful? To try and prevent victims from Experiencing Discomfort tm. I also think it kind of disregards the entire thesis of Astarion's character and arc.
When you go through something that robs you of your selfhood and agency, the world can become a crushingly terrifying place. In Astarion, that fear presents itself in a desperation for power, control, and at the core of both of these desires- Safety. One thing the game is clear about is that he has a right to kill his abuser. He has a right to escape his situation. A lot of Astarion's personal arc is centered around being able to finally do that. But the game doesn't just leave it off at getting him to safety. So much of it is also about him needing to take responsibility for himself and his actions, with needing to learn who he as a person is.
The inclusion of the Gur children and Sebastian as characters is a good example of ways in which the game gives Astarion the opportunity to take responsibility. I think that if the intention of the arc was meant to be that "Astarion should never ever have to deal with being afraid or uncomfortable again", then the Ascended arc wouldn't Come with such heavy moral ramifications, like sacrificing the other people just like him, killing the victims he lured in, literal child murder. The game infers that he doesn't deserve to die because of the things he Needed to do to survive, but it also makes it very clear that there is a difference between addressing an Active Threat and using your fear as an excuse to hurt others. Breaking that cycle of abuse when he finally gets the chance to is what separates Spawn Astarion from Cazador.
Taking responsibility for himself, and letting himself sit in the discomfort of vulnerability ultimately ends up being a thing that he is very proud of and cherishes. If you tell him you will make sure nothing like that ever again he himself says that he doesn't want you to be his protector. And so it blows my mind when people go into all of these discussions about Astarion with this...Weird moral high ground for never, ever making or letting him make choices that might hurt him?
I see this the most when it comes to discussions about the possible polyamorous relationship with Halsin and the interaction with the drow twins in the brothel. So many people are just...outright angry? At other people engaging with either of those options? And I feel like that anger is one) rooted in the projection of their Own feelings on non-monogamy and what a victim of SA can or cannot look like. and two) Relies on undermining the agency that Astarion BEGS you for at every turn.
When it comes to the drow twins, the game adapts Astarion's response to them based on where he is in his own personal development (a really cool thing imo). Obviously, if he still doesn't feel good or safe about engaging with sex he declines and says you can feel free, though he hopes you aren't just doing it because he hasn't had sex with you. I think this makes sense: He's just gotten out of a situation where his Safety and worth were directly tied to him having sex. I imagine he feels afraid that not wanting to have sex with you makes him replaceable or inadequate because at this point in the game, he feels like that's all he has to offer. The interaction is relatively the same if you ask him for a poly amorous relationship with Halsin: He just asks you to reassure him that you aren't only doing it because he hasn't had sex with you, and then tells you he isn't worried about it otherwise.
A lot of people have taken the expression of that insecurity in combination with him still allowing you to go forward and do these things as him just "sucking it up" because he's afraid of losing you. (I am aware Shadowheart says he wouldn't be able to handle it when you ask her if you can date both of them- But keep in mind, Astarion says she wouldn't be able to either, and THAT obviously isn't true of her. For the purposes of this discussion I'm only including interactions with Astarion as a judgement of his character.) I understand that concern, but I feel this take disregards so many other points of dialogue, and is also continually rooted in the baseline vilification of discomfort.
To further go into it, the way that he speaks about both of these interactions changes significantly if you speak to him about it once he is completely free from Cazador, and has had time to allow himself to start reconnecting with himself and his sexuality on his terms. He has absolutely No reservations about an open or poly relationship with Halsin, and says he trusts that things will be ok because he one) feels secure in Your relationship and two) Knows Halsin is experienced and trusts him to not be a messy bitch about it.
I think that shift, in combination with the in game explanation of why he isn't ok with being in that sort of relationship with the other Origin Characters (for Lae'zel and Wyll, he says they'd never agree to that. For Shadowheart, he says she's not experienced with open relationships and that he doesn't think it'd work out. For Karlach, that it would break her heart. And for Gale, he says you need standards.) is a pretty good indicator that he doesn't actually care about polyamory or monogamy. I think the vilification of that choice relies on you picking and choosing when you do or do not believe Astarion or just outright not liking non-monogamy in the first place. This interaction has more to do with the player's choice and comfort level, and so is not as important to the broader discussion I am trying to have in this post.
The interaction that is more pertinent to not Allowing him to make decisions is, I think, the drow twins. If you interact with the drow twins after the completion of the Cazador questline, he is outright giddy at the prospect of interacting with the Drow twins. Specifically stating that he is excited to see how he likes these sorts of things now that he's free.
NOW- I do NOT think that he enjoys the act. The game makes that abundantly clear, and I'm not arguing that he has a great time. He obviously does not, and dissociates during it. That being said, allowing this interaction to happen does not make a player evil or selfish. You are not playing the hero if you decide to moderate his choices just because you do not think he is ready for it. Once again, no one is evil for Not doing it either, and I am not saying anybody has to want to. I am just saying that treating this choice like it is an evil choice to make relies on completely disregarding what He wants to do.
Astarion says so many times in the game that he is anxious about finally having the freedom to find out what he wants to do, and I think that his excitement for the drow twin exchange is one of the opportunities the game gives him to make a choice. He makes that choice- And it sucks for him. He doesn't enjoy the act, and having done it he would be able to move forward knowing that. I think it's really cool and important that the game represents that facet of recovering as a victim. While you are trying to renavigate who you are, you are going to make a million new choices you never had before. And sometimes those choices are going to suck ass. It would be a different matter if he knew these things would hurt him and went ahead and did them anyway. But so many people expect him to move forward avoiding even the Potential of being hurt, and I think that is extremely reductive of his arc and who he is.
Beyond the matter of interpersonal relationships, the choice between Ascending or not Ascending Astarion is not a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils. It is a choice between his fear and his humanity. Between letting his trauma and his fear define him for the rest of his immortal life, and allowing him the vulnerability of deciding who he is when he isn't running from the world. When he's willing to listen to the parts of himself that want to do right, that wants meaningful connection, that wants to be proud of himself. That wants to meet himself. To confront who he is when someone else isn't deciding that for him.
Astarion as a character is extremely ambitious, inquisitive, and adventurous, three traits that only become more and more evident as he breaks free from letting his own fear dictate how he lives his life. I don't understand how so many people can see him and want to take the core of his character away from him, when he spends the entire game fighting desperately to take it back.
Victims are not casts of the abuse they have gone through. Their shapes may be changed by the hands of others, they may have to relearn how to be the person they want to be. But they are not broken or irreparable or fragile. They do not need to be freed from the grip of one person to be held tight in the grip of another. It is so fucking unfair and self-important to think that your hands will be the ones that fix them. That your hands know better than theirs. I think the kindest thing you can do for a person is to trust them with themselves, and to listen when they tell you who they are and what they want. Please listen to the voices that have only just learned to speak. It is the only way they can get better at doing it.
#astarion#astarion bg3#bg3#baldur's gate 3#astarion ancunin#I know this is kind of overdramatic#but like pls pls pls pls#ask yourself why you feel the need to protect victims from the experience of growth#and then consider if that attitude is a fair or helpful one#because freedom includes the right to make choices. even stupid painful ones.#that being said this essay is more for people who played the game exclusively making choices they thought would make astarion comfortable#like ascending him or not participating in polyamory#this essay is NOT for people who just ascended him for dom dialogue with him#bc I think it is a bit silly to tell people who wanted a toxic make him worse dynamic#that they are enabiling toxicity and making him worse#this is just an alternative pov for people who genuinely think it is for the best to do these things

Oh yeah, I have another AU and just like the Harlequin AU, it's a huge one
For the uninitiated, Origins AU is a slice of life + action adventure comedy centered around the Glamrock cast, as they try to get by starting their own band and maybe, kicking ass. No, Security Breach & Ruin isn't canon to this AU, its it's own world (though SB characters can show up as a minor cast).
I'm pretty sure the reason this au started was because I saw the baby Monty decal from Gator golf and thought, "Why is Monty the only one with this? The others should also have their origins too" (hence the name)
These are all SUPER old art btw, from all the way back to 2022
One thing led to another, and with the joint effort with my bf @nobody-nexus, Origins AU began with baby decal concepts, to fleshed out world(s), backstories and lore.
Lots, and LOTS of em. But for the sake of not boring anyone with details, I'll summarize.
Freddy is an Alien space bear Supersoldier called an "Ursin'ul" (play on words on "ursine" and "arsenal") crash landing on earth, refusing to participate in propaganda and colonizing other planets once he found out the truth about his kind
Chica is a rebellious yet naive meravian Princess who learns forbidden knowledge to be able to walk on land and explore the world beyond the sea, as long as she keeps hydrating
Roxy is the bad girl small-time rockstar that's closed off to most people due to her upbringing, and transforms into a werewolf when full moon hits
Monty is a 9-foot tall irradiated alligator being pursued by the government after he broke out, whom wants to study him in order to create potential bio-weaponized supersoldiers
And Bonnie is... Roxy's roommate getting caught in the crossfire. A normal guy with a lot of uncles (almost ALL Bonnies from the entire franchise are related to him), and owns a bowling alley. That's it lmao, he doesn't have a secret or a superpower like everyone, he's just the average menkisser
They're always pursued by The Rockstars in this AU, all with personal motives behind their actions: Francois being forced to find and retrieve Freddy by Levi's (Lefty) orders, Clarabelle wants revenge for her eye from Roxy, Felix is down horrendous for Chica and wants to marry her against her will, and Brian is tasked with retrieving Monty.
Other variants in the franchise have their own thing too lmao, HW dlc being weird country guys, Toys being a Mafia group/Toymakers with an ongoing feud with the Funtimes, Withereds/Classics being veterans in the ent. industry, and Fury's Rage enemies aren't enemies, but Monty's friends from his time in confinement. There's Nightmares too, but they aren't a thing until the end.
I've made lots of shitposts, artworks and designs alongside Nexus for this au, and one day, I wanna come back to it and work on tweaking stuff as well as story beats. For now, I got a lot of things I have to work on first and this serves as an archive for the au's ideas.

---
Joost. Joost fucking Klein. That man was always very charming and he didn't even have to try. He was always the center of attention whereas you were just somewhere back, trying to fit in. Looking for your kind of people that lay back just like you. And if a year back someone would have said to you, that you're going to be in love with this man, you wouldn't believe them. Probably laugh in their face. You and Joost? Ha, you could never... could you?
He was the god of the party. Whenever he walked into a room, it was like the atmosphere shifted. People gravitated towards him, drawn by his effortless charm and infectious energy. He had this way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world, even if just for a moment. Yeah, you know, Joost.
You and him met pretty easily, not in some grand, starstruck way, but through friends. It was at one of those low-key gatherings that start with a few people and end up with the entire social circle crammed into a living room. Joost was in his element, entertaining the crowd with stories and jokes. You watched him, intrigued by how natural it all seemed to him.
As the night went on, you and him somehow ended up in the same conversation circle. It wasn't long before you were chatting like old friends that have always known each other. He asked about your interests, your thoughts on music, movies, and life in general that night. And you found yourself opening up more than you usually did, his genuine interest made it easy.
Then, you started seeing each other more frequently. Your encounters were never planned, but always felt serendipitous. You ran into each other at the shop center, at friends' houses, and even at the grocery store. Each meeting felt natural, unforced, but then it wasn't just for talking and sharing stories. Now, you and Joost were friends, but with benefits. Of course you didn't mind at all at first. But after some time you wasn't so sure anymore. At first it was just because of some release. But after some time, you started to feel some...things.
Then came the night of this unforgettable party. You didn't want to come here at all, but your friend, f/n, she promised it's going to be just for a few hours and that Joost is going to be here as well. Maybe, that's why you actually agreed to go here. She knew about you and Joost, and how you actually felt about him. But she promise to not say anything.
Joost was, as usual, the center of attention. But this time, at this party, it felt different. Every time your eyes met across the room, there was a spark, a silent understanding that something was shifting between you and him. You watched him laugh, dance, and engage with everyone, yet somehow, it felt like he was always aware of where you were and what you were doing, of who you were speaking with and when you looked at him.
It was like sixth sense.
It started to get hot here, or maybe it was just the alcohol that flowed through your blood. Either way, you needed some fresh air, so you excused yourself from your friend that was just as tipsy as you and you made your way out by the back door that went to the garden. There wasn't anyone, but it wasn't so surprising. Whole party was thrown inside because of the cooler weather.
Enjoying the muffled sounds of a party in the house behind you, you were startled when you felt someone's hand on your hip.
"Hey, hey, easy here. It's just me."
Joost.
"You scared me for life." Turning your head to look at him, you notice how his pupils were big.
"I'm sorry princess, I will try not to scare you away from me." You laughed it off. He was definitely a teaser. It was in his nature, to make people laugh, to forget everything, to enjoy their time with him.
"What are you doing here so alone, hm?" He whispered in the cold night and ran his hand that he had on your hip up and down. To warm you a bit. "It's cold out here."
"I know, but I needed some fresh air. I couldn't breathe in there." You said and pointed back at the house. Leaning your head on his shoulder you closed your eyes, but the drinks that your friend made you drink with her were a little bit stronger for your liking, so whenever you closed your eyes you felt the whole world spin, just like right now.
"Yeah, you're right." Joost put his chin on the top of your head after he kissed it, just as you relaxed in his hold. You always enjoyed his presence, but it wasn't just because of his personality, it was because he made you feel things that you believed that were never there. He was different, he made you feel different. Like no-one else before had. He lifted his hand from your hip and placed it on your arm, "You're cold." he said and raised his head for yours.
"It's nothing." You chuckled, "I will manage." you tried to assure him, but your skin was really ice cold.
"Yeah, in bed with a fever tomorrow morning. Come on, let's get inside." He took your hand in his and together you made your way to the house. He let you go in first, holding the door open for you like a true gentleman he is with a smile on his face. "Lady's first."
You returned his smile, never letting go of his hand. It wasn't strange for you to hold his hand and kiss here and there, but you weren't together, it made some people questioned your real relationship. But what they didn't know was that you and Joost have been sleeping with each other from time to time. And you had to admit, you were totally scared of your future with him.
He doesn't feel love. He never felt that way. You knew it because before you and him started to sleep together, you and him made a promise to not catch feelings, it's just gonna be about a sex. Nothing more, nothing less. And you knew you had crossed that line, but you couldn't tell him anything. That would ruin everything, it would have ruined you. So you swallowed your feelings and told yourself to not, ever, let or somehow show your feelings for him. Even though it hurts you.
"I need to find f/n. She's somewhere here and I need to stop her from doing something stupid." You told Joost and he actually laughed at that because he knew her and what she was capable of.
"That sounds like a good idea. I will be in the living room if you want to look for me after you find her." Joost winked at you with smug on his pretty face and left you here standing with red cheeks. No matter how many times he had flirted with you, you always gave in and let his charm affect you.
---
It took you some time to find f/n, but you also have found some other friends that were looking after her as well. They were leaving and told you they are taking f/n home too.
"Noo, Y/n I don't wanna go home." f/n pouted and hugged you before others basically dragged her off of you.
"You have to. I will text you in the morning, okay?"
She protested, but eventually gave in. Leaving the party and looking forward to your text when you will be leaving.
You went to the kitchen and poured yourself a drink, not so strong this time and then you started looking for another person, Joost. But he already told you where he's going to be. Making your way through bodies to the living room, you greeted some faces you recognised. Sending friendly smiles and little waves. But just as you stepped to the living room, you couldn't help the shock that went thru you.
He was sitting here with some girl. No, the girl was sitting on his lap and what was even worse, they were making out. How his left hand was running through her hair and how his other hand was on her waist, keeping her closer, just like he did before with you. All you could do was watch the scene before you.
"Y/n?" Joost's voice was barely making any sense, but he knew that was you who he was kissing right now. He was so sure of it.
"Actually I'm Mila."
"You're not Y/n? My Y/n?"
"I can be her, if that's what you want."
"You're not her?" Joost asked the girl that he assumed was you, but she pulled him back to kiss her. He wasn't complaining, but he was hoping that was you who he was kissing right now and not some random chick.
When they pulled away to breathe, Joost looked around the room and saw you standing in the back with a shocked face and how it, in a matter of seconds, turned into a pained expression. That was the real you. You weren't sitting in his lap right now.
What were you thinking?
It hurt. It all hurt so much. You really thought he felt something for you, just like you did for him. But you were wrong, so, so wrong. "Y/n?" His words were slurred. "C'mon it was just for fun, you know that right?"
Drunk words are sober thoughts.
You heard him say somewhere towards you in his now drunk state, you couldn't even properly look at him, all you could do in that moment was to turn around and leave. On your way out of the house, you passed by people that gave you this kind of sympathy look. Did they think you and him were together too? You weren't, and he made that crystal clear.
"Y/N!" He was calling for you to stop, but you didn't. "Y/n! Can you stop for a second?!"
"What!? What is it Joost!?" You turned to him, stopping in your tracks. Barely holding tears in your eyes.
"What's wrong with you?!" Joost almost shouted, but held himself back because of other people near you two.
"What is wrong with me?" You had to ask. "With me?"
"Yeah, you're acting like I fucked that girl right infront of you, and even if I did, we're not together so it doesn't matter."
"I can't believe this." You avoided eye contact with him. "I'm such an idiot." Whispering, you looked down, letting the tears freely fall.
"What? So it's mine fault?"
"No it's mine."
An awkward silence was between you two.
Joost sighed looking down and put his hands on his hips. "Look Y/n, let's just get inside, get some drinks and forget about it. It wasn't that big of a deal anyway." He insisted and took a few steps towards you, trying to reach for you, but you backed down. You turned back around and said.
"Yeah, you're right, it's not that big of a deal anyway."
With that, you made your way home.
---
That was two days ago, and from that time you felt like shit. You barely slept and eating food was bad too. F/n was worried about you, she insisted on talking to him, herself or you. But everytime she threatened, you told her to stop. That you're going to deal with it by yourself. She stopped after that.
Two fucking days.
Your phone was blowing with missed calls and hundreds of unread texts from Joost, but you didn't want to talk to him. Not right now. His words still hurt you. "It's not that big of deal anyway." Yes, you promised something to each other, but his words hunt you.
As you laid in your bed and re-thinking every detail of that night, soft knocking brought you out of your head. At first you didn't want to get up and answer, if it's important then they will try it later.
But the soft knocking was getting louder and more annoying. You slowly got up and made your way to the door. Ready to scream on anyone that was behind them.
"Y/n?"
That made you stop in your tracks. Joost? What was he doing here? You didn't want him near you at all. That's why you distanced everyone.
"Y/n, open the door."
His knocking stopped and you saw his shadow under the door and how he was stepping from one side to another.
"Open the door. Please."
Joost begged. And that's something you never heard from him before. Part of you wanted to let him in and hug him, but the other not at all.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what I said that night." You heard him say behind the door. Him still waiting for you to open to him.
"You didn't say anything wrong. Only truth." You muttered on the other side.
"Yeah, but..." He sighed and leaned his head on the door. Closing his eyes for a moment before speaking again. "You didn't deserve that."
That made you cry. He was right, you didn't deserve it like that.
"I hear you cry." He lifted his head from the door and tried to open them again. "Please don't cry."
"You made me look so fucking stupid." You cried more. "I thought...I thought that we-"
"I'm sorry."
You took the handle and slowly opened the door, letting that awkward silence spread all around you and him.
"What do you want from me?" You finally asked as your eyes were red and swollen from crying for the past two days. Just like his.
"I don't know." He admitted. "Probably everything..."
"That's a lot."
"I know I want you in my life." He began. "I'm scared that if I told you how I feel, you're going to leave me like everyone else."
"And why would I do that?"
He didn't say anything to that. Like you had caught him off of guard. But that didn't mean that you felt any better. You wouldn't admit it, but you didn't feel better.
"My heart always seems to be disappointed." You admitted quietly, letting it sink in. "Maybe it was made just to be shattered into thousands pieces."
"No, no, don't say that. It's not the truth, you don't believe that." His eyes were pleasing yours to say otherwise, but he didn't find what he was looking for in them. "Do you?"
"What if I believe in that?"
Now you were more scared of his silence than your damaged heart. Is this it? Is this the very end of yours and Joosts path?
"Are you going to say something?"
"I'm sorry." He stepped closer and opened the door fully. "I'm sorry that I hurt you, I don't know what I was doing...I was drunk a-and I know that it doesn't change anything, but I'm still so sorry and I need you to know it." He kneeled before you and hugged your waist. Trapping you in his hold.
"Joost." You didn't know what to say. Or what to do at that moment.
"I love you." He breathed out. "I don't want you to disappear from my world, because you are my world."
You stopped breathing for a moment. He loves you? Joost loves you? From all of the people he knows and ever met, he loves you?
"I need you to know how I feel." Joost admitted and held your legs tighter. "I should have said that sooner."

so many of us haven't seen it
we don't encounter it, we can't imagine it, we can't get out of the tomb of apathy because we haven't seen the wonders just beyond their line of sight
I talk about this all the time, but it's because I think about it all the time
There are likely thousands of plants native to the area you live in, and chances are you have never even seen most of them, in your entire life.
Not even rare orchids that only bloom at midnight on a blood moon or some shit—regular flowers. Weeds. They have been systematically eliminated from every single place you ever set foot in, and you have to have a special hobby or line of work to ever even rest your eyes upon the flowers that used to bloom for no one on every hill, or in every valley, or beside every stream
There are a few hundred birds that live where I live. I have never seen most of them before. I have never seen a Kentucky Warbler, and I have lived in Kentucky for what...twenty years?
I have never seen a rosy maple moth. When I saw one on the internet, I didn't even think it was real.
I've become a deeply weird person over the past couple years. Tasting even a little bit of the Wonders changes you. I wouldn't have thought blue bees were real, or the fantastically rainbow-colored dogbane beetles.
I have seen the world beyond the wasteland, and that glimpse makes you crazy.
You or I may have never seen a truly mature tree. A fraction of a percent of the old growth forest of the Eastern USA remains. Once there were tulip poplars over 6 feet in diameter and sycamores well over 10 feet in diameter. Only a few remain, in secret locations. Imagine walking through a forest where the tree trunks are over 3-4 feet wide.
The forest where I work is 100 years old. That's a baby forest.
Knowing that, being aware of that, it's maddening.
Central Kentucky has disproportionately few endemic plants. Almost none. Central Kentucky was the first area west of the Appalachians settled by European colonizers. The Bluegrass was once described as having the most peculiar plant life anywhere in the East, but now, there are no species known that are unique to that area.
Colonization destroyed the canebrakes. (Did you know that we had vast forests of bamboo full of carnivorous plants?) The bamboo is barely hanging on. It destroyed the sycamores so enormous you could use the hollow center of one as a stable for animals. It introduced invasive grasses to feed cattle and horses. It destroyed the rich lush topsoil. Most of the ancient oaks were cut down or died when housing developments were built on top of their roots.
What happened to the endemic species, never recorded in books of herbs, never sketched by a European naturalist.
Either gone forever...or hiding in a sinkhole on a backroad somewhere, not even yet discovered.
So much has been lost for eternity. So much still could be lost.
Some days it's hard not to wail and scream. There are herbicides in your drinking water. When you spread honey on toast, you likely also spread neonicotinoid pesticides, which testing has confirmed to be present in something like 45% of honey. In many areas, insects are immersed in the presence of chemicals designed to kill them in every drop of water, every leaf, every square inch of soil.
When games, animations, and illustrations envision the outdoors, they cover the ground with a short, uniform carpet of green, because that is what we see, no matter where we go: turfgrass cut by a lawn mower. Where I live, there are no natural environments that resemble this, remotely. The closest thing we have to turf-forming grass is our wealth of native sedges, most of which are rare or endangered.
I talked to a man who had devoted his life to studying the American bamboo, Arundinaria gigantea, and he had never seen a canebrake larger than 200x500 feet. Canebrakes once covered ten million acres, and now the bamboo exists in short, straggly clumps instead of dense bamboo forests up to 40 feet tall.
I want to cry and scream. The grief will tear me to pieces. I live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, surrounded by people who can't even grieve, because they have been so completely severed from everything that was lost that they don't even know it was real.
It hurts. It hurts, and we have to live with it. It hurts, and the grief is all-consuming.
There is the agony, and there are the Wonders. Both are true at the same time. It is because nothing around us is standing still; everything in nature is always moving, iterating, becoming. Something is pulling and nudging at our species, urging us to move, to iterate, to become.
So much has been lost. Even more is not lost.
The trees, the bamboo, the sedges, the Kentucky warblers and rosy maple moths.
They are not lost. We are lost.
This is the hard part. The grief is hard, but this is somehow harder for us. We are lost, and it is time to come home.
Not to a physical place, but to a way of living: interconnected, mutualistic, interdependent. Symbiosis. In the forest, no one is separate from anyone else, everyone is linked and dependent on the community. Trees help each other, they support each other, they protect and shelter and feed one another and all living things, and together they are a forest. I don't really consider myself religious, but I have to reserve something in my head for how it felt to realize what Forest was.
When I noticed the little plants popping up in the sidewalk cracks and gravel paths, the tough weeds holding on in the lawns and pavement, something in my brain began to change dramatically and permanently.
They're still here. The trees. Even in the pavement and lawns. The dandelions have come, adapting rapidly, helping the bees hold on. The wildflower seeds are still sprouting in this depleted ground. Waiting for us to recognize them. Life is everywhere. The Forest is everywhere. It felt like they were waiting. We're here. We have not abandoned you. We are resilience, persistence, survival, adaptation. This is not death. This is Chaos. Come home. Come home. Come home.
I saved little plants from the roadside and tended them in plastic cups. I didn't think it would work. I don't know why I tried. I was acting as something bigger than only myself, responding to a call that moves throughout all of nature. But they survived, and growing and tending to my little plants and trees, I—understood.
I don't know if I believe in God, but I believe in Something, whatever it was that seemed to whisper like a secret: Welcome home, Caretaker.
And honestly, truth shone through then from relics of religion I hadn't touched in ages; God put Adam in a garden, not a suburb, a mall, or a Walmart. This is who you are. Not a Consumer, but a Caretaker.
And when the threat of the Flood loomed, God told Noah to start building a fucking boat.
In ecology, the plants we know as "weeds" are pioneer species: the first species to return to an area after a natural disaster or mass extinction. They survive in the harshest conditions, and prepare the land for regeneration. This is who you must become.
Look to the Dandelion—in just a few hundred years on this continent, Dandelion has risen to the highest calling of a Weed: first survive where the others can't, and then help the others survive. If the human species is to survive, you must be a weed species. You must adapt relentlessly, resist eradication, and protect and nurture other life forms by your very nature. You must be tough as nails, and make the world a gentler place through your survival.
Have you heard the saying that grief is love with no place to go?
That's the hard part.
We must grieve, but it is not yet time to grieve. It is time to love.

General smut headcanons
→ author's note: honestly I have no idea where this came from, I started a baji × reader fic but uhh.. I got bored of it :) my apologies I promise I'll finish it asap. honestly writing this was a little tricky for me bc I've never looked at chifuyu this way but I also had a few ideas and wanted to put them out there + I'm lacking when it comes to activity and headcanons are much easier to write than a whole ass fic so- here it is ^^ lmk if y'all want any other characters and I'll do my best to write them asap !!
→ warnings: smut, 18+, timeskip chifuyu (you'll never see me sexualizing by little blond baby), fem!reader, I would say minors pls don't interact but I know that y'all will read it anyway so 🤷🏻♀️ i wrote this in like 15 minutes so it might not be the best
Y'ALL idk why but my stupid ass tumblr won't let me put three pictures like I usually do 😭 I've been trying for like 10 minutes now and it won't work so just deal with the one picture (I'm gonna kms)

- depending on when you two started dating, there's like a 90% percent chance you were his first.
- i feel like he would respect your decision on whether you want to wait till marriage or not, he's okay with either.
- i saw some people making headcanons that he used to watch porn as a teenager, but tbh he doesn't really seem like that type of person to me so I'll say he didn't do that.
- although he most definitely did see some interesting stuff from takemichi's gang and their nasty ass comics 💀
- i can also say that he probably has visited porn sites, not bc he's a porn addict or anything but bc he was genuinely curious (like most of us are).
- i also saw some people saying he'd be into one night stands, but once again I'd have to disagree
- to me personally, he seems like someone who would want to build a relationship with someone before engaging in something so intimate as sex.
- I also feel like he would wait for at least a year or maybe even longer to do it, especially if it's both of yours first times.
- as I said before, he has visited porn sites and saw makoto & yamagishi's 18+ comics, so I wouldn't say he's ENTIRELY clueless, but definitely not experienced
- that's okay, you can just teach him what to do if it's not your first time
- or even better, you can learn together!
- he may not be experienced, but WHEN I TELL YOU he's 100% a fast learner
- he's great with oral, like when he first dove into u you almost couldn't believe it's his first time !!
- when it comes to his length, I feel like he'd be a little bit smaller than the others, but that doesn't mean he can't make you see stars if you ask him to ^^
- he's VERY gentle at first, almost too gentle (if that's possible)
- I feel like that'd be because he's nervous, it's (most likely) his first time and he doesn't want to hurt his precious girl 😔
- once he's fully inside of you, it might take him more time to adjust than you 💀 buuut once he starts moving it's heaven
- would be very slow at first, you'd have to straight up tell him if you want it rough
- he usually takes intimacy very seriously and despite being inexperienced somehow manages to find the PERFECT center of rough and gentle to make you feel amazing!!
- he's into petnames, both giving and receiving them
- I feel like his petnames would be very sweet, some stuff like "angel", "honey", "love" etc.
- I can imagine him being a bit uncomfortable with degrading you, would avoid calling you "slut" or anything similar unless you're REALLY into it
- even if he doesn't like calling you degrading nicknames, I feel like he wouldn't mind being called those petnames when you're on top
- speaking of top, he's a major switch
- can rock your world if you ask him to, but can also whine like a needy baby when you're on top
- absolutely ADORES when you ride him
- I feel like he would let out whimpers and soft moans when you take control, might be a bit embarrassed about it so you'll have to reassure him that you enjoy hearing those precious sounds
- he's not good with dirty talk when he doesn't it intentionally, but I feel like he somehow manages to get you all riled out by accident when he just says what's on his mind
- he's more of a thigh or boob type of guy, but wouldn't touch you without your permission
- once you give him the go, he'll suck the shii out of your tits (it might be a bit harder to pull him off them)
- he's favorite positions are any of the more intimate ones, but I feel like he'd usually go for the classic missionary one
- he may not be able to last a million rounds, maybe three or four at best, but those 3-4 rounds are enough to have you feeling completely used, but also extremely satisfied
- puts your satisfaction before his own
- I honestly have a hard time thinking of his kinks 💀 I imagine him more on the vanilla side but I feel like he'd enjoy having his hair pulled and doing the same to you if you're comfortable with it
- also likes marking and biting
- he prefers being the one receiving the little bite marks and hickeys, although he LOVES seeing your neck and thighs covered in small purple and red spots 🫶🏻
- he also loves it when you give him head, but couldn't force you to do it if you're not into it
- he's the KING of aftercare
- he'll wash you, dress you up, make the bed all warm and cozy, bring you water, he'll even cook for you if you ask him to
- refuses to go to sleep until he's 110% sure you're satisfied and he thinks he's done a good job at making you feel loved afterwards
- loves cuddling and falling asleep together after a session
- honestly I don't imagine him having a very high sex drive, he can live perfectly fine without doing it often, sometimes you'll even have to do specific things in order to turn him on
- will buy lingerie for you only if you're comfortable with it
- i think he isn't the type to jerk off way too much, but it definitely does happen here and there
- the first time he jerked off with you in his mind, he was probably looking through photos of you that he took of you while letting out the smallest whimpers of your name
- will be extremely ashamed after it and would act like he committed 500+ war crimes when he finally admits it to you
- feels extremely relieved when you say you don't mind it
- idk about you but I'd ask him to send whimpering audios when he's at it 🤷🏻♀️ (I can't help it his voice is so attractive)
- overall a great lover, intimacy with him is amazing !!
