You Ever Have Those Realizations?

You're just sitting, doing your thing, maybe reading, and suddenly, you are hit in the face with the steel baseball bat of epiphany. You have now realized why you love that one character *so much.*

Yeah, so anyways, I was reading Uncanny Spider-Man last night, as you do, because I was curious about this little mini-series. Overall, not a bad series. A little rushed, but ah well. A little odd, too, but this is X-Men; what isn't a little odd? Not the point, though. Here I was reading when I got to this panel:

And, okay, ow. Were the writers of this comic present in my therapy session yesterday?

Needless to say, alongside this panel appeared the aforementioned steel baseball bat.

(but not the groin, that's a different metaphor of mine that doesn't quite fit here)

But it just hit me all at once. Kurt is a character that's been beaten down by life in more ways than one. He's tried, he's tried *a lot,* and he has great reason to be angry or bitter or resentful. It would make complete sense for a character like him to hit a point and give up entirely, and his rant here about deserving to stop really hits home.

And yet he's none of those things. He absolutely has his moments (like above), but who doesn't? Overall, Kurt's character is consistently depicted as someone full of hope, someone who tries to see the best, who clings to his faith and keeps pushing forward because he believes it's all ultimately worth it. And good Lord if I don't feel that. I just got done telling my therapist how I'm just so tired, how I want it all to stop, how I want to stop putting on that brave face and pushing on like a good little soldier. And yet here I am praying to God Almighty for strength to keep going because He definitely knows I have none left.

Anyways, all this to say, I love Nightcrawler a lot for quite a few different reasons, and I'm quietly talking myself off the cliff of immediately tattooing this furry elf onto my body with money I don't have.

Concept:

Post-tadpole, Tav offers to help Astarion find a way to walk in the sun again, and she starts by going to different libraries and repositories and archives around the city to look for books that might be relevant. Astarion, obviously, has to stay in the rental room with the shutters closed during the daytime, so he can't come with her.

At some point, this takes her up to the posh part of the city, where the fancy ✨ scholarly ✨ archive is. She remembers most of the walk - it's not too far from the graveyard Astarion took her to, in the neighbourhood where he once used to live.

And like, it's never actually occurred to her that he could still have Actual Blood Relatives still living? It's not a topic she's ever thought to raise with him. But she has to sign in and out of the archive, and she just happens to notice the name three or four lines above hers: an initial and a surname she recognises.

Ancunín.

The same name from Astarion's gravestone.

A parent? A sibling?

A niece or nephew Astarion has never even met?

Thus begins a secondary quest of trying to reunite a broken family. Astarion is willing enough to talk about the few memories he still has of the thirty-nine years he had with his family before turning - a drop in the ocean compared to the 200 years spent suffering under Cazador - but he shuts down when she nudges him towards the likelihood that Mr & Mrs Ancunín are still alive. He retreats back behind the selfish, catty survivalist he was when she first met him and claims he has no interest in ever reconnecting. The pain in every clipped syllable says drop it, so she does.

But then he asks her, very quietly, several days later, what the initial was. He doesn't really react when she tells him - there's no obvious recognition, and he doesn't ask any follow-up questions or try to discuss it further. He just goes back to his book. She watches him out of the corner of her eye though, as she skim-reads her own giant tome of magical artifacts. A very long time goes by before she sees him turn a page.

For a good long while, the family issue gets put firmly on the back burner. They have other shit going on. Sometimes, it's following promising leads on a possible workaround for Astarion's sunlight allergy. Other times, it's the kind of ugly, ragged-edged breakdown that so often follows a period of relative safety and stability after a major trauma. He's been running in survival mode for two centuries, and now he's finally starting to feel secure enough for the rest of his mind to come back online, and all the trauma he couldn't handle at the time, all the pain and fear and tangled emotions survival mode was protecting him from, is catching up to him. During those sporadic episodes, trying to keep him from falling apart is her top priority and, well, time gets away from them and by the time he brings up his parents again, months or more have gone by, and they have a fairly good idea of what artifact of daywalking they need to find.

By the time it comes to actually meeting with them, still more months have passed, and they have already found it.

It's horrible, and heartwarming, and heartbreaking, and healing, and hurting, and so many other conflicting things that for a while - a long while - Tav doesn't know whether she actually did the right thing encouraging him to reach out to long-lost loved ones. It's a mess of moments that makes her heart ache for a dozen reasons. She finds out that Astarion looks most like his mother, but has his father's nose. She holds him for hours while he shakes and sobs into her shoulder because they never even left the city, they were here the whole time, and they never found him - and he's so angry and full of grief he doesn't know what to do with himself. She accompanies him to the home he was raised in, and the once-familiar surroundings jog memories he thought lost for good - he's glassy-eyed, recounting them to her, but she's fairly sure it's the good kind of glassy-eyed, so she doesn't mention it. She tries to make conversation at family dinner while he stares at his hands in his lap, dissociated, looking even more uncomfortable than she feels, utterly lost in a world that once fit him like a glove. There are a lot of feelings to try and mediate. They are all hurt, all damaged, all afraid, all looking for the ghost of a loved one in the face of a stranger.

But, eventually, there is a day where she overhears Astarion having a conversation with his father, and he sounds like himself - not the persona he puts on in public - and his father laughs at something he says in a way that's entertained rather than awkward. There is a day where his mother reaches out and he doesn't shake his head or step away - he lets her hug him goodbye. They have not slipped back into the graves they crawled out of in each other's lives - they are all very different people now - but they are learning new ways to fit together, and he seems to be pleased about it.

So she thinks, yeah, it was worth it.

Hades 1 vs Hades 2 Designs

● Hermes besides Hypnos was first character that made me think when i saw him oh some time has passed since Zag's escapes indeed, makes you feel that time skip. In this particular debate between those i'm really digging both but if needed to say which i prefer would go with second. I feel it should be said he sure rolls nicely with longer hair i would say darker outfit too but that's probably because pallet that's used for levels.

Ps. I saw post that mentioned how his ring is the same as ones Charon is wearing in first game and if it's a hint at something i'm here for it!

● Zeus for this god specifically there is discourse about how his pose is less dynamic and oh boy if i don't agree with that so much. In first game you see him and his look makes you think yeah this is the king of gods while in second game man is just there with posture i take often because i'm useless gay that don't know what to do with my hands and feels like they took all this might and put it into chiseling his nipples & abs into his golden chestplate. Not to mention the detail of missing the iconic bolt! Don't think it needs to be said but 100% would pick Hades 1 design out of those options.

● Poseidon the King of the Sea another example in my humble opinion where they went with flattening that dynamic looks exchanging it for man that just standing there chilling which is good for him but where first screams cool uncle second one goes uncle that wants retirement. I really like how we can see the trident now tho and need to point out his outfit sure got more print on it. When it comes down to pointing out which one is the winner in my eyes it would be 2020 one.

● Aphrodite if she wasn't the one that got thrown into drama because people double standards and hypocrisy. Design from first game and the pose straight up makes you think of love, lust, seduction all the things that are associated with said goddess. As for Hades 2 version i have no clue why it feels like this considering it's actually the opposite because we can see armor on her legs now but she feels less covered for me, do i find it negative or in any way problematic? Not one bit let the woman show off all her assets all day long! Really love the adds of her weapon and shield makes you immerse in the store of oh fights are happening around these parts. From seduction to i stand here at the ready kinda vibe and i'm really digging it.

Ps. Another post i read was about fact that her war paint i will call it (not 100% sure if that is it or just line for the giggles) is reference to Ares and considering her myth i really like that touch!

● Hypnos was the first OG i saw and was like man not only catching up on his sleep but also got such glow up i absolutely adore the design. Not to say he looked bad in Hades 1 but there it was like okay nice to Hades 2 like Damnnn and his lil helpers that keeps him up! Love the fact that of all things they made him be tucked into his cape like burrito.

Ps. I really do hope by the end of the game we get to wake him up so he can try out that nectar that we all leave there waiting.

● Chaos so many things to say and at the same time silence says it all. Seen people focusing on fact some out there call them he or how it's a downgrade from previous but don't even elaborate why they think that because everyone has right to have their own preference but at least put it into words instead of going trash next..there was also notion how they resemble Meg and while i see where people get that idea from for sure before reading that my mind didn't went there at all. I think both designs really work with someone who is primordial originator and how time goes so can their form. I find it very fascinating that they put old skeleton with new one and adore galaxy under suit makes me think of Nyx right away and how they're connected. Can totally see how between those two gamers got major stance that left reminds them more of male and right of female beings but at the end of the it chaos is chaos. Gotta take chair routine from Meg while they at it! The face on the shoulder surely throws me in loop tho fits? Sure. Does it disturb me in micro scale? Yes. About frames and poses don't have much to say cause both caption the essence of i mind my business everything unrelevant until i say so.

Ps. I know it's about physical aspect but let me say Chaos roasting Mel about how her brother is amusing one out of two Hades spawns is living rent free in my brain.

ive never talked about it here and im procrastinating going to sleep even though i want to so here are my asriel age headcanons.

When chara falls, they’re 12 and Asriel is 11. Chara turns 13 a little before they died, and Asriel is still 11 then. (Chara stayed in the underground for maybe 3/4 of a year.. In my brain that makes sense)

Flowey IS ageless, but i can’t imagine him maturing past like 14 mentally through all his resets. (also, my hc for how long he’d been resetting ranges from a number of months close to a year or at most like a year and a haaaaaaaaaaaalf?????? Keeping in mind that he like. Had to do that in real time not videogame time eheh) He’s always gonna be a bit immature because of what he’d gone through but postpacifist he’d be ablet o grow up a bit...

One of my favorite thoughts concerning Bartylus is Regulus and Barty pre-descent-into-madnessTM who had a completely sweet and awkward crush romance in their first two or three years as friends because everyone forgets that they USED TO BE GOOD KIDS and it was a SURPRISE that they changed as they got older. Like their romance definitely did grow into the obsessive and unending love we know, but it couldn’t start that way right off the bat when regulus was an introvert who’s only friends his whole life were his family and Barty was raised with beliefs that centered around not liking people like regulus??

But like just think about eleven year old Regulus and Barty who sort of knew of each other because their father’s are political enemies pretty much and they’ve both listened to their respective father’s complain about the other, but like they didn’t hear about their kids really. So they enter their dorms (regulus unsure how to feel since he was sorted how he should but his brother is angry with him and Barty similarly unsure because his father admires slytherins as much as he despises them and being a ravenclaw would have been a lot easier) and they meet and they can feel something click into place for them. I don’t believe in love at first sight, but I absolutely do for them.

Like I imagine that the persona Barty embodied to sell himself to others when he was young was much more neutral than he grew to be when he embraced himself. Like, he was bright and likable because he pretended to care when he listened to others talk and didn’t try too hard to know everyone so keeping up his image was easy. I imagine regulus was quiet and reserved and as intimidating as a four foot six (Im American sorry) eleven year old can be and he didn’t try seem likable or really change this disposition as he grew older, but he never had to because he already had the respect he needed with his name alone. I bring this up because they didn’t act that way around each other when they first met, like it was so obvious to everyone that they had something going on it was adorable.

Just think about the little guys trying to react normally to something as soft and sweet as a crush when they’re so used to their emotions mostly just being heavily hidden anger and grief over what they’re not. Like especially with how we imagine them to be in their late teens and adulthood , it’s just so silly to think about them being childish children. Like just imagine Barty flushing and stuttering unlike he ever has before when speaking only to regulus because he’s the only person he really cares to try and seem actually cool to and he fails miserably. Or regulus who has no clue how to talk to people so he just kind of lingers around Barty more than others without actually knowing what to say.

This sucks wording wise but I’ve written and rewritten this like four times over the course of the last three days so just, do you see the vision? Am I making sense?

Mentally, I'm still here rotating this animation of chibi-Haitham in my head. I just love how low-key enthusiastic he is while jotting his notes/sketches(?) down because he had observed something he found interesting hhdjdjjsjkk I love this feeble scholar and his gap moe ♥♥ Also forever yelling about how he’s writing with his left hand hehehe HELLO FELLOW LEFTY!? And ambidextrous Kavetham headcanon validated?? Actually, it's not too surprising to me if Alhaitham really is left-handed/ambidextrous, considering how he's a dual-sword wielder. Still, it's so nice to be able to see it animated here. I like to imagine that maybe Kaveh and Alhaitham both learnt to be ambidextrous during their Akademiya years together, not by necessity, but as friendly competition just for that added advantage over the other lol.

I find it doubly interesting too that besides Nahida (who can see the forest spirits because she's the Dendro Archon/Goddess ruler of Sumeru), the other two characters who appear in this web event and can seemingly interact with the Aranara are Nilou and Alhaitham. Is Hoyo implying that besides Rana, there's also a possibility that both Nilou and Alhaitham can still see the Aranara, even as adults? That the Aranara trust Nilou and Alhaitham enough to reveal themselves, because they are "dreamers favoured by tree and flower" (Nilou), and still possess "child-like curiosity/are true to themselves" (Alhaitham)** ? **Note: This second line isn't a canon in-game quote; it's merely my personal musing about why Aranara only trust and show themselves only to children, and not adults.

....Buuut as this is simply a fun web event, I wouldn't take it too seriously as actual canon confirmation that both of them can see and interact with Aranara in the same capacity as Rana, Yoimiya, and the Traveller. Still, it's a cute headcanon that I can get behind for fanfic/fanart shenanigans and hilarity. Alhaitham's childhood backtory with his Grandmother and the Aranara in his 2nd SQ pls hoyo, thanks. It would be especially amusing too—because between the two, Kaveh canonically has never seen Aranara before (he doesn’t seem to remember seeing them as a child either), so I can't help but laugh just thinking about his reaction if and when he realises one day, that the ugly wood carvings Alhaitham keeps buying home are of the little forest spirits that Alhaitham still retains fond childhood memories of, and some of whom he still sees and bumps into from time to time XD Or, an even more hilarious scenario to consider: What if that "someone" that Kaveh mentioned in his birthday art this year was actually Alhaitham, who had shown Kaveh his (ugly) sketches of the Aranara he met before and suggested for the children's book illustration Kaveh was commissioned for? No doubt Kaveh would have felt rightfully compelled to re-imagine how these forest spirits looked like because Alhaitham's attempts at art never fails to raise all the hairs at the back of his neck LOL.

i think that bandee is no stranger to a wide variety of close and intense relationships; he's beloved by many and loves them all equally but distinctly in turn. magolor on the other hand has been sooo isolated and lonely for such a long-ass time, he barely knows how to be friends let alone really care for someone. bandee is smart enough to be suitably wary but kind enough to give him a chance despite that, which i think would knock him off his non-existent feet instantly. in reply, magolor could give him something unique by loving and prioritising him utterly singularly, in a way bandee wouldn't even have realised he was missing

in awtdy (pictured in the sketch page; if you see a tattered looking magolor in my art it's probably this au) in particular they are both thrown into the angst soup together and come out insanely trauma bonded at the hip. their friendship/relationship is central to the plotline; together they're working on a solution to the timeline anomaly, while also hiding that they even really know each other the whole time

Oh my god, the way that you can hear the love in Aaravos’s voice as he talks about her… It’s not an emotion don't think I could have pictured on him before this episode but it's so tangible, the voice acting in this episode is incredible. This episode is going to murder me isn’t it.

Also, I like how the terms he's using to describe her could also easily apply to Claudia whom he's trying to get to empathize with him. To connect her own love for her father to his love for his daughter.

Okay, this might be me reading into it but. The way his daughter's hands are held in this picture looks a lot like the way I flap my hands when I stim. Is Aaravos’s daughter maybe neurodivergent? Either way, I love her already, she’s so sweet.

Give Aaravos’s VA an award. The RANGE this man has, spanning from threatening to playful to right here where it’s so soft and sad and full of love for his daughter.

…I am remembering vividly that response from the writers when someone asked if the Startouch child in the intro was a younger Aaravos and they responded that the child was Leola. Oh no. And again, the fact that Aaravos is talking about Leola only in the past tense… I am not ready for this episode oh no. NOTHING HAS EVEN HAPPENED YET AND I’M ABOUT TO CRY.

Also, the animators always do such an amazing job with Aaravos’s expressions. I just. Oh…

Oh, Rayla, honey… I might be wrong but I think that’s the first time Rayla has actually verbally acknowledged Runaan and Ethari as her parents. I know she’s called them her family before but I don’t think she’s called them her parents.

I like the clarification of what the coins actually do to a person and why they’re worse than death. Because they don’t allow the spirit to achieve peace by passing on or allow them to continue their life, they trap them in between life and death. I also really like that they’re bringing back the stuff from Through the Moon.

I wonder if there’s something particularly special written in the book or if it’s just a tome of knowledge of the arcanums. Rayla did originally think the cube was a piece from a children’s game, maybe in a way, she was right.

SKjafslkjf. Leolaaa. I love mustache Aaravos so much. And it’s so humanizing seeing such a different side of him. To have a moment where he’s not some all-knowing mysterious arch-mage but just a father with a young daughter who likes to poke fun at him sometimes.

One of the best parts of Fellowship of the Ring is finding out about Aragorn and Bilbo’s friendship. Like I’ve seen people talk about how they collaborated on the song together, but I have yet to see people talk about this:
