You ever sneeze so hard you redesign yourself?

Anywho,

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TIME:

Stormy is no longer a Star Wars character! He’s still called Stormy the *Stormtrooper*— I legitimately don’t think I can call him anything else— but he’s no longer associated with Star Wars whatsoever.

Really, this has been a long time coming. I’ve never really thought of Stormy as a Star Wars OC, y’know?

With everything I want to do with the series and the character, I figured it would make the most sense to divorce him from Star Wars entirely, and let Stormy be Stormy.

Like I said, he’s still going to be called a Stormtrooper, for lore reasons that will be explained at a later date (likely, whenever I release the new version of Book 1!). Just know he’s NOT a Star Wars Stormtrooper anymore.

For now, I figured I’d go ahead and drop his redesign, since this is something I’ve spent a lot of time and effort remaking! Cheers!

What I’ve been thinking a lot about lately is the idea that…even in times of turmoil and uncertainty and fear, the people you’re connected to, and the community you build, and the people who are out there always trying to make things a little better, a little warmer, a little safer, the people who are fighting for and striving for security and joy and levity and agency and all the things that can make our lives richer and happier…those things don’t just vanish overnight. That even when it feels like the world is shaking apart, those people are still there. And that bit of hope, on the most micro of scales, of who you’re connecting to and finding happiness and safety with, and who you’re helping is…such a more productive driver than despair. Even though there are so many reasons to despair. But the people who are always pushing for a better life for everyone, your people, you yourself in being that person for someone, are still there. And I think that’s what matters.

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you

#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what #allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of #the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than #to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do #im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt #take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was #mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their #mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that #explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain #direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in #arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to #engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out #theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive #a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked #picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing #sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example #for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war #is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old #wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for #steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with #especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can #look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never #treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time #but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made #feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them #accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me #yapping #diary

I was reminiscing on some anime vampires, and now that I think about it Alucard Hellsing gets so much funnier, and pathetic when I realized that this mighty as Fuck all powerful bullet hell back to back vampire will ALWAYS be salty that neither Mina nor Jonathan wanted to be in his little polycule.

He can wave the guns, and monologue all he wants but we know the truth, and the fact (at least considering the novel) that if Mina came back to life as a plot point she would have killed him point blank.

Also the bar is in the fucking ground for adaptations when this ever loving edgy trash thing managed to respect both Mina, and Jonathan's romance in a single fucking flashback panel in the manga than the majority of them.

Right on every count (longest sigh)

It says something that a manga absolutely drowning in aggro blood and guts, overpowered Dracula antics, another ~Van Helsing (sorry, Hellsing) is the extra special magic-cool archenemy~ rewrite, mountains of hetero cheesecake and just plain looney tunes treatment of demonic/divine supernatural shoot-em-up madness…

…also features one of the few renditions of a Dracula with something like believable sympathetic character development. Not into an antihero or even an antivillain, but just a tired monster who looks back in bloody tears on a past where he did battle with worthy enemies—heroes—and neither stole them to his side or got to be allowed euthanasia by them.

He’s fun as hell and I love to see him eat some Nazis, but he’s also up there with one of the most depressing versions of Dracula who I can actually buy as being a (developed!) Dracula

#I know Hirano likely never intended it but I can’t help picturing so many of the characters around Alucard #as his replacement goldfish for people in his past. like do-overs #Anderson and Walter were two sides of a would-be Jonathan; both of whom betrayed the vision he had for them #(Anderson turned to a warped version of God rather than trusting his own steel. Walter betrayed love itself for a rematch)#Seras and Integra were at once an attempt to bring back his ‘Brides’ and Mina to varied results #(there’s no itch for conquest anymore—just company…who are fun to aggravate and nettle along to his rhythm)#I wonder if Integra reminds him of them both #the ex-innocent callused into a force against the dark #man now I want to do a reread #dracula #hellsing #alucard #jonathan harker #mina harker

thinking about what apollo and nahyuta's relationship would be like immediately post-aa6 is funny because yes they haven't seen each other in over a decade and when they did finally meet again nahyuta was acting like a total dick but. while i think things would be awkward (sometimes extremely so) at first, i don't think there would be any, like, coldness to the distance between them. maybe there would've been if they didn't find out dhurke was dead together and then also got held at gunpoint (during which apollo kept trying to run his mouth until nahyuta in particular begged him to stop) but considering All Of That Happened.....i think there would be a sort of frankness between them. like yeah they still have to tackle the whole "apart for over a decade" thing but unsurprisingly it's a lot easier to do so when the absolute terror of potentially losing each other, so soon after dhurke's death, is recent enough to still be breathing down their necks

#i've been looking around and looking at people's different interpretations of how it would go #and i've seen both ends of the spectrum i.e. 'they act like they never left each other immediately' vs.#'they are constantly at each other's throats' and i don't think either of those are really....right. at least in my opinion.#i think Everything That Happened would inspire a sort of frankness between them that isn't really shared by anyone else. which makes sense #given that despite so many years apart they were still raised together from the time they were babies. apollo was a year old or less #when dhurke pulled him from the fire and nahyuta is older than him by a year or slightly less. even when they were apart there was never #a time where they weren't aware of the other's existence because absence is a reminder in and of itself #so. frankness. and a combination of starting anew and picking up where they left off during their first separation in their own way #they are not the same kids that they were then and that's obvious to everyone and ESPECIALLY them. But.#fear is a powerful motivator. and that same fear that turned apollo into a stuttering mess when ga'ran threatened nahyuta and #led nahyuta to literally beg apollo to shut the fuck up lest he be shot in front of him is‚ i think‚ what would enable them to push through #all that initial awkwardness. aa has never been about perfect family relationships but it HAS always been about love. and the love is there #as little as i think of the writing in the game...the love was definitely there. it persists so they persist. so it goes

#my recipe #Okay so some tips is the lemon juice will taste less artificial if it is freshly squeezed #But thematically I think the artificial is better and I personally like it more #Sugared rim is optional but fun to sugar a rim you just get the glass wet and turn it around upside down in a little dish of sugad #Sugar but I’m not retyping that #Simple syrup is 1 part water 1 part sugar just boiled together in a pot #Club soda and tonic water are BASICALLY the same. Club soda is more sweet and tonic water is more bitter #They can be used interchangeably most of the time. This is one of those times #If you want to make it a COCKTAIL and not a mocktail it’s pretty much a lemon drop with extra steps so just go with vodka #This recipe image has less flair to it because this is a less. Well the flair is in the drink itself #I’m tagging this as #saw v #but that’s it for theming related tags #The grenadine is the blood going on the glass btw (the glass is the clear liquid base)

also i just have one more thing to say about the movie and then ill probably shut up for now but im really annoyed with how certain people keep going "omg its not supposed to be a sonic adventure 2 movie stop expecting it to be exactly like the game" to shut down any criticism of the trailers... like don't lie to me regardless of how many changes they make it's still very obviously supposed to be a sonic adventure 2 movie theyre taking a lot of plot points from that game and they keep referencing it in the marketing for the movie you have to have never played the game to think its not an sa2 movie

and like. yeah people who were expecting it to be an exact recreation of the game were probably setting themselves up for disappointment but just because it's not supposed to be exactly like the game doesn't mean that every change is justified or that fans of the game aren't allowed to not like it ..?? it's not unreasonable for fans of the games to want to see the stories and characters they love done justice in an adaptation . whatever man

#like i personally am not mad the movie isnt exactly like the game. i was never expecting it to be .#i just think a lot of the changes they made suck and make the story worse and dont feel like they were made with respect for the game #also tired of people going omg stop judging the movie based on one trailer #and then turning around and calling the movie peak cinema based on one trailer ...... ??#and they csnt use that argument anymore at this point but .#saying its gonna be good is judging it based on the trailers too .. ????????#and im sure a lot of those same people hated on the minecraft trailer when it came out around the same time #just admit you cant handle the slightest bit of criticism aimed at the movie and go #also ik sonic 2 wasnt exactly like the game it was adapting either #but again its not the story being changed itself that i dislike its specific decisions they made with sonic 3 #but . the classic games dont have much going on in terms of plot #sa2 is one of the more story heavy games and is possibly one of the most loved sonic stories of all time. its not the same situation.

interesting how often the ones claiming that galadriel's season 2 arc was perfect and everyone who doesn't think so is just too haladriel brainrotted or something are the same folks who openly say it's fine if she were to just... fade into the background in season 3 or disappear outright. sorry I actually do think it's sexist for galadriel to be introduced as the central protagonist only for her to be gradually phased out so that gil-galad and elendil or elrond or whichever legendarium dude can have more to do.

#I mean effectively s2 was elrond's 'turn' in that sense. lots of development for him that hinged on sticking gal in a holding pattern #(don't even get me started on the way brimby's ascension to a lead pov could only be done with gal's absence & tbh at sauron's expense too)#but now some of yall are like IT'S GIL-GALAD'S TURN & frothing at the mouth for even less of galadriel so that he can take the s3 reigns #'gil-galad is important because he's the king!' girl i do not care lmao and guess what neither do the normies #normies get invested in the characters and relationships + conflicts that they were following from the beginning - the touchstones #we're not making this up this is how television works #shows need that connective tether the foundational thing that stays consistent to build your audience #it's why louis in the amc iwtv show is not going anywhere in s3 - because he's been the heart and soul for 2 seasons #and you can't just discard him for the sake of adhering to book canon!#you can't swap protagonists around season to season and expect your audience to keep up. it's very very hard to get away with #i'd argue this is even more key in streaming series with the limited episode counts. there isn't *time* to dilute the focus so much #ugh anyway s2's arc for galadriel was rife with problems primarily because you could remove her from it and hardly change the overall story #she was in this weird limbo where she was intensely invested in the A Plot but barred from affecting or interrupting it #within the A Plot itself - eregion and sauron and celebrimbor - she effectively didn't exist #every active plot driving choice near her was made by elrond cirdan gil-galad adar celebrimbor. one after the other. she was a passenger #'it's fine for other characters to make choices tho!' not when it's the whole gd season kiddos #and what do you know viewership is down

Joe Abercrombie i love you. i love when you make me like a character and think they deserve a good ending and then two pages from the end of the book you go nope. this guy’s a moron and an asshole actually but somehow that only makes me like them more. i love when you show me an unapologetic dickhead and make me like him so so much and give him a better ending than the guy i thought was the good guy. and i agree. i love when you say we’re all the heroes of our own stories and people don’t want to take the blame for their mistakes and dreams are a lot better in our heads and sometimes life sucks but mostly its just cause people suck. i love that the only smart character you’ve written is a seventeen year old boy who just wants his mom. i love when you take a guy who wants to be good and just. make him kill and maim and bite because he doesnt know any better.
