Over my whole life, I have completely filled a total of 7 sketchbooks. 2 of them I filled in the last couple of months. Which is insane how much drawing I've been doing recently. I find I'm the most prolific with art when I am drawing comics (last time I filled a sketchbook in a short amount of time was when I was drawing a bunch of Hollow Knight comics). Its funny, I'm such a storyteller, I can't stop telling stories even when I'm drawing.
#I've always been disappointed at how I suck at making art for other people's fics despite how much I want to do it#but maybe that's not my calling or destiny in art#maybe its comics#stormy ramble#I saw an art tips post where the person's number 1 tip to get better at art was to fill 14 sketchbooks#so I'm taking that literally and working my way up to fill 14 sketch books

Lot of Funny Business
Pairing: Robert ‘Bob’ Reynolds x f. reader
Word Count: 2.4k
This fic includes: sorta spoilers from Thunderbolts*, smut (barely plot), Bob is a dom, heavy making out, dry humping, spanking, teasing, dirty talk, fingering, nipple play, doggystyle, missionary, pussy slapping, cum tasting, interrupted orgasm, cunnilingus (from the back 🤭), couch sex, cum swallowing
Summary: You and Bob show the Thunderbolts that you can be trusted to hold down the Tower together without supervision.
Notes: Request no. 1 of Build-a-Bob Workshop complete 🤗Thank you @taivantaylor for the request! In the process of working on the other requests I’ve been sent so far, but don’t worry babes, I see every single one and I’m so very excited to write them 🥰😘
request: Choose Me : Bob x fem!reader Hear Me: 15 minutes- sabrina carpenter Stuff Me: smut Dress me: Shoes - unresolved sexual tension Accessories - “youre wearing way too many clothes for what i have in mind” orrr “i had a very nice dream that started like this”

“Now, we’ll only be gone for 15 minutes. Don’t destroy the place, please,” Bucky called from the elevator door. Ava, Yelena, John, and Alexei had already huddled into the lift while Bucky held it open. They were on their way to a briefing with Valentina and Mel, which you and Bob both knew would take way longer than 15 minutes. It took Bucky the same amount of time for him to go over the rules you and Bob had to follow while they were gone.
“Don’t worry, we won’t!” You shouted after Bucky, eyes still focusing on your Nintendo Switch. Your legs were sprawled over Bob’s lap as he pretended to busy himself with a book he took from Bucky’s bookshelf. His face looked unbothered and blank to the team, but the side eye he gave you along with the quirk of his lip basically told you he’d rather destroy something else.
“Bye, be good, okay, Bob?” The quiet man sitting with you on the couch turned towards the team, flashing them a jolly smile and a thumbs up. He turned back to the book as your teammates disappeared behind the elevator doors.
As the elevator dinged, Bob tossed the book behind him, not caring where it landed and you dropped your gaming device on the arm of the couch. In an instant, you climbed onto Bob’s lap, desperately attaching your lips onto his while wrapping around him like a koala. Bob caressed your lower back as his soft lips danced in sync with yours. You squeezed your legs tighter around his hips, clothed groins rubbing together in a heated delight.
“God, I thought they would never shut up and leave,” you breathed against Bob’s mouth.
He smirked into your kiss. “I know right? They act like we can’t behave ourselves.” His lips trailed to your jaw, grazing his teeth along your jawline. “They think we’re children or something.”
“Well, if they saw me on top of you like this, then of course they’ll think we can’t behave ourselves.” You giggled as his aftershave tickled your neck. “But, I don’t care. They can watch us all they want.” Bob stilled underneath you, a darkness stirring inside him. A lustful kind of darkness.
“Someone’s a bad girl today,” Bob noted with a husky voice. His crotch grew harder against your wet center. You bit your lip, seeing Bob’s baby blue eyes turn a stormy blue.
“First, you lay your legs on my lap, trying to act all sweet and innocent in front of the others. Then, you rub up on my dick with those sexy legs of yours. I bet you knew how hard you were making me. Wanted to see me come in my pants. Little tease, you.” A large hand whacked down on your ass, causing you to yelp and rub against Bob more.
“Now, you tell me you want me to fuck the shit out of you in front of our friends, is that right, baby girl?” His voice was raspy and low in your ear. “Tell me you like being a bad girl for me.”
Your mind was fuzzy as his words and hot breath against your ear put you under a spell. “Yesss.”
Next thing you know, Bob cupped your chin, forcing your eyes to meet his. Bob raised an eyebrow, a sinister smile painted on his face. One of the perks of teasing Bob’s brains out was seeing him unleash his dominant side. He was always careful and gentle with you, making sure to never go past your or his limits. Yet, with him, you weren’t entirely opposed to testing how far he could take you.
“Get on the floor, baby. Need you on your hands and knees.” You immediately followed his orders. Without leaving his spot from the couch, Bob wasted no time in spanking you three times painfully close to your pulsing cunt. He continued, “Now let’s try that again, baby girl. Tell me you like being a bad girl for me.”
“Yes, Bob, I love being a bad girl for you!” Your delicate whimpers were music to Bob’s ears, yet he craved more.
“That’s my baby girl!” A finger traced up your slit, the soaked fabric pulling a wicked smirk from Bob. “You’re wearing too many clothes for what I had in mind.” With that, he swiftly yanked your shorts down, moaning upon the sight of your bare ass and dripping pussy.
Your voice yanked him out of his trance. “Better hurry up, Bob. The gang will be back any minute now-”
Smack!
“C’mon baby girl, you know they’re full of it! Any interaction with Val and Mel is gonna be at least an hour. I’m gonna take advantage of this alone time with my girl.” You almost missed the hint of romance in his words before he flipped that switch again. “Besides, if I remember correctly, you said something about not caring if they caught me worshipping you like the goddess you are.” Those words alone were enough to shut you up.
Bob ripped his shirt off, his abs glowing in the fluorescent light. Then, he pulled you flat against his chest, gripping one of your boobs while the other hand flew straight to your clit. He muttered a ‘fuck this’ before tearing your shirt off you and returning his hands back to where they were.
“Love how these tits feel in my hands! Especially when I do this.” His fingertip flicked against your nipple as he simultaneously rubbed tight circles against your nub. You threw your head back against his shoulder as you moaned and squirmed for him.
“F-fuck, Bob! S-so fuckin good!” You whined pathetically as your boyfriend tormented you with his hands alone. All you could do was cling onto his meaty thighs to ground you from making a mess on the tile.
“I know, baby girl,” Bob cooed, lightly kissing your sweaty temple. “Bet you can’t wait for me to fill this pussy up, huh?” As he spoke, he playfully slapped your clit, causing your breath to hitch.
“Jesus, Bob! Just fuck me already, please, baby, please!”
Bob chuckled, bringing his now drenched fingers to his mouth, savoring your juices on his tongue. He placed you back on your hands and knees, except this time, he pushed your upper body against the floor slowly. As you’re pressed against the hard cold floor, he hooked his thumbs under the waistband, dragging his pants down until his cock whipped out from behind the fabric.
“You really are my bad little girl. But I can never say no to you.”
Without further exchange of words, Bob tapped his cock against your entrance before inserting the tip inside you. He heard you hiss from the sudden stretch, soothing you with quiet shushes and pets against your back.
“I know, baby, I gotchu. I’ll be gentle with you.” Bob slowly shoved himself further into you, listening to your pain turn to pleasure. Once he was halfway inside you, he started thrusting back and forth, clasping his large hands on your hips. You rested your cheek on the ground to catch a glimpse of your boyfriend fucking you from behind. He looked absolutely delicious with his mouth slightly open and pouting and his eyebrows knitted, causing creases in his forehead.
“Like seeing how good I fuck you? If only they could see how sexy you look for me.” Bob slammed into you over and over again until he bottomed out inside you. Feeling him fill you up entirely made you cry out, your breath fogging the glass floor. Your walls clenched around his length as if it were life support, causing him to curse loudly.
“God damn, baby! Keep gripping me like that and you’re gonna make me come.”
You backed up into his thrusts, rolling your hips in a circular motion. The moans Bob let out were straight out of a porn video, which egged you to increase your movements on him. You both got so lost in the sounds of your faltered breathing and slapping of skin that you both almost missed a phone call from Yelena. Stopping your motions, you both listened as an automated voice sounded from the intercom notifying you that Yelena was calling.
“Answer call.” You groaned loudly, annoyed that your friend couldn’t let you have an orgasm without checking in on you. A holographic screen popped out from the middle of the living room, showing sound waves of Yelena’s voice from wherever she was.
“Hey, guys! How y’all doing?” The Russian spy asked, unaware of the situation you and Bob were in. While you spoke for you and Bob, your boyfriend took it upon himself to gingerly pull out of you, causing you to wince from the loss of contact. Luckily, he immediately replaced his cock with his tongue. You gasped, jolting forward, but Bob pulled you back against his face, pinning you in place as he licked the desire from your hole.
Yelena stopped whatever she was talking about with you. “Everything okay over there?” You were unable to conjure a coherent sentence as Bob lapped your pussy.
“Uh- Yeah. Just..playing Mario Kart with Bob.” You began to awkwardly laugh before it was cut off by a gasp. All thanks to Bob and his skillful tongue. “And it’s getting intense.” A faint ‘fuck’ escaped your lips as Bob sucked your clit, the tip of his nose brushing against your opening.
“Okay, now play nice you two!” Yelena responded, still not picking up on what was going on through the call. If only she knew how you and Bob were playing at that moment. “Sorry, it’s taking so long, but you know Val. All talk and no action. We’ll be back soon, though. Promise.”
Thankfully, Yelena ended the call before you could let out another whimper. Without warning, Bob scooped you up off the floor, tossing you onto the couch with ease. He couldn’t help but smirk at how drunk he got you from eating you out.
“Well, now that that’s over…” Bob pinned your hands above your head while lining up his cock at your entrance. “Where were we?” He flashed a quick smile before roughly thrusting into you until his balls were pressed against your ass. Your mouths fell open simultaneously, relishing the feeling of you both connected again. You pulled him close to you, sealing your lips against his as if he were an icy glass of water you craved in the middle of a scorching desert. Bob pounded into you as you tangled your fingers in his damp curls.
You separated your lips from his, praising him for good he made you feel while you stroked his scalp and pushed him further into you by wrapping your legs around him. His tip poked that spot deep inside you that always had you rolling your eyes and shaking like a leaf. Bob knew the effect this had on you, which motivated him to focus on that spot until you were screaming his name like a prayer. And he was more than focused. Determined even to send you to the edge.
“Yes, Bob, don’t stop, baby! Make me come, please! I’ll be good, I swear. Just wanna come so bad.” You were a blabbering mess and so so close to that sweet release. All Bob had to do was whisper filthy things in your ear while angling your hips up to penetrate you deeper.
“Come for me, baby girl! Fuck, wanna feel this dick get all wet and sloppy from you. Look so good taking me so deep like this. Bet you’ll be feeling me deep until I fuck you next.” Bob’s dirty talk paired with him holding you at an angle was the perfect mixture to get you falling down the pit of pleasure. He started chasing after his own release as you throbbed around him, coating his cock with your wetness.
“Oh god, I’m gonna come! Open that mouth for me, baby.” You lazily opened your mouth for him as he pulled out again to hover over you, jerking himself off until spurts of cum dropped into your mouth. You slowly swallowed his load little by little as he panted for air with his thighs on either side of your head. Bob crashed onto the couch next to you, curling next to your warm, sticky body.
“See? We were perfectly fine without supervision. Bucky and Yelena need to leave us alone in the Tower more often.” You kissed his nose while twirling a strand of Bob’s hair with your finger.
Bob giggled, “I agree. We can be as loud as we want and no one can tell us to be quiet.”
“Let’s just hope we don’t get interrupted again.” You added. There was a moment of peaceful silence, aside from your heavy breathing and heart beats. Bob sat up, stretching his limbs before gathering your clothes together. He helped you off the couch and into your clothes before you did the same for him. You both shared a loving kiss before resuming to the couch with Bob spooning you.
While you were cuddling, he watched you play Animal Crossing, mimicking the villagers’ gibberish and placing little pecks from your temple down to the crook of your neck. In the midst of your laughter, you heard the elevator door ding and your team members filed out the door. You and Bob attempted to fix your posture on the couch but they all looked at you with raised eyebrows.
“Geez, you two, save that for the bedroom,” John remarked, shaking his head.
“Leave them alone, Walker.” Ava lectured. “At least their clothes are still on.” Bob curled his lips inward, fighting back a snort.
“Anyways, who’s hungry?” Alexei boomed out of nowhere. “I’ll cook for team tonight.”
“Starving!” You and Bob both said in unison. His eyes were on you instantly and you avoided his gaze as your cheeks grew warm.
Yelena smiled, “Mario Kart that intense?” You and Bob nodded together.
“I won…a lot!” Bob lied, yet still implying that he did win something that only you would have known.
“Well, at least we know that you guys can be left alone without the Tower burning down,” Bucky commented before walking away with the others. You finally met Bob’s eyes and he gave you a knowing grin before you grinned back.

Batsib finally getting attention because daimg goes off on everyone ??
Imagine this.. batsib and darling are rlly close and batfam hates it. Darling eventually getting annoyed of the neglect that batsib is getting so they go off on the family, and the family realizes and now give the yandere treatment to batsib instead 😭‼️
Great idea!
…
Saboteur: Obsession
Yandere Platonic Batfam x GN Neglected Reader
Notes: typical yandere themes
…
What if Batsib became the family’s new obsession…
🦇- it has only been about a month since darling’s outburst but it feels like a whole year
🦇- you lay in bed, numbly staring at the glow-in-the-dark stars scattered across the ceiling
🦇- the freshly planted camera in your room adjusts its lens to focus on your motionless form
🦇- you should have never said anything. You should have been grateful
🦇- sure your family could care less about you…but at least you were free
🦇- you let your thoughts drift to the day that this all started
🦇- the day that darling accidentally ruined your life
1 month ago
🦇- you lay on the fuzzy rug, attempting to pinch the worn material of the old jean jacket
🦇- you bite your lip in concentration as you thread the needle
🦇- darling chuckles at your focused state while attempting to sew a small tear in your jacket
🦇- “Didn’t Alfred teach you how to sew,” they ask before snatching the needle and jacket out of your hands.
🦇- you purse your lips in irritation and embarrassment. “Of course he didn’t teach me,” you think.
🦇- Darling expertly sews the torn jacket and throws it back to you.
🦇- you catch the jacket and eye their handiwork. It’s good. Alfred must have taught them well.
🦇- you look up to find darling staring at you expectantly. They’re waiting for an answer
🦇- “No, he never taught me. He doesn’t like me much.”
🦇- they pause and think for a minute. “That doesn’t sound like Alfred. Are you sure he doesn’t like you? Maybe you should try and ask again,” Darling rambles.
🦇- your rub at your forehead in irritation. They just don’t understand
🦇- “Alfred doesn’t like me. None of them do.”
🦇- Darling quiets down at your statement. They crawl over to your side on the bright pink rug, “well even if Alfred doesn’t like you, I’m sure dad does.”
🦇- you shake your head. “Dick?” You shake your head again. “Tim?” You sake your head for the third time in row. “Damian?” At the mention of Damian you let out a deep laugh
🦇- “Those three have told me how much they hate me more times than I can count. I appreciate that you care but they will never love me the same way they love you,” you sigh melodramatically.
🦇- at the thought of just how much your family hates you, your laughter kicks back up again
🦇- it’s funny really. They love their kidnapping victim more than their actual family. Why wouldn’t they?
🦇- while getting over your bout of laughter, you miss the stormy look in darling’s eyes
…
🦇- you were working on your book nook when out of nowhere you hear screaming and the sound of glass shattering
🦇- you quickly drop what you’re doing and race down the mahogany stairway
🦇- in the hallway, darling stands in front of a mess of shattered vases and picture frames that were impossibly expensive
🦇- your father and brothers surround them. Nervously assessing the damage and what could have possibly set them off
🦇- Damian looks up and spots you on the stairs, “what have you down now you hellion?!”
🦇- “no,” Darling interrupts, “I won’t let you talk to them like that!”
🦇- Damian’s eyes widen at darling’s tone. He drops his tough guy act and looks down in shame
🦇- “you all have to start being nicer to them! They’re my big sibling and if you can’t respect them, then I don’t have to respect you,” Darling huffs
🦇- Bruce puts his hands up in a show of peace and tentatively approaches darling. He takes their hands in his and offers a small smile, “sure thing, kiddo. Anything you want.”
🦇- darling looks back at you with a wide grin. They shoot you a quick thumbs up before taking your father’s hand again and dragging him to the cinema room
🦇- you can feel the air shift and your stomach drops instantly. Dick, Tim, and Damian all stare at you with unreadable expressions.
🦇- Dick clears his throat, “well come on then. We’re watching a movie.”
🦇- Dick holds his hand out to you. It’s different than the way your father reached his hand out to darling. It feels like an obligation. What would happen if you didn’t take his hand? What would happen if you ran back up the stairs?
🦇- Dick seemingly reads your mind and closes the distance to grab your hand. He pulls you down the remaining steps so quickly you almost fall.
🦇- His grip on your hand is tight as he marches down the unending hallway. Tim and Damian walk on either side of you and Dick. You can feel their stares burning the back of your head.
🦇- Your heart feels like it’s about to beat right out your chest. This doesn’t feel right. Darling says one thing and they all just obey. That’s it?
🦇- Your thoughts are interrupted by the feeling of a new pair of eyes watching you. You tilt your head back a bit and look up. Dick is staring at you. His piercing blue eyes look like they’re gazing into your soul.
🦇- You try to read him but fail. You look back at your feet as you all round the corner into the cinema room. You can hear the opening score. It’s The Shining.
🦇- “How fitting,” you think bitterly.
Present Day
- hot tears cascade down your face and dampen the pillow beneath you
🦇- you’re so stupid
🦇- you should have never said anything to darling. They meant well, they truly did. But this is not what you wanted
🦇- your quiet tears transform into hiccuping sobs
🦇- the loudness of your cries shocks some sense into you. you quickly slap your hand over your mouth
🦇- with bated breath, you watch the door
🦇- please don’t come in, please don’t come in, please don’t come in
🦇- the handle turns slowly
🦇- Dick and Tim enter the room. Tim scans your teary face, “why are you crying? Is something wrong?”
🦇- Dick rubs sleepily at his eyes and sits down at the end of your bed. There’s that look again. A mix of adoration and a predator-like gaze. What does it even mean?
🦇- Tim waves his hand in front of your face. “I asked you a question,” he hisses.
🦇- you sit up in bed, “sorry, I was just thinking about that new show I started. The one with the president and the underground dome. It made me a little emotional just thinking about it.”
🦇- you chuckle nervously before wiping at the almost dry tears on your face
🦇- Tim takes a step back and you try not to let the relief show. “That’s fine,” he sighs, “try and get some sleep.”
🦇- Tim turns around and head back to the door. You peer over at Dick and find him still staring at you.
🦇- “is that the show with the apocalypse and the fake sun?” His sudden question shocks you. Did he know about the show himself? Or had he been spying on you while you watched it a few days ago?
🦇- “yup! That’s the one. Y’know I think you’d like it. Maybe you should check it out sometime,” you say with a faux cheeriness.
🦇- “Hm. Maybe I’ll join you for the next episode.”
🦇- you smile at Dick and try to mask your disappointment at his answer. He rises from his spot on your bed and approaches you
🦇- Dick raises his hand and pets your head. “Tim’s right. Get some sleep.”
🦇- you nod and shoot him a small smile. He doesn’t return it and instead turns and walks to the door
🦇- Tim is still standing in the doorway with his arms folded. You wave bye at him and he leaves without another glance.
🦇- “Night,” Dick mutters and shuts the door behind him.
🦇- you lay back down and let out a breath you had been holding
🦇- the sound of the camera lens adjusting returns a minute or two later
🦇- it means that Tim has made it back to his room and is watching you again
🦇- no more crying
🦇- you’d rather suffer in silence than have that awkward interaction happen again
🦇- you turn in bed and pull the thick covers over your head. You grab your red panda plushie and pull it closer to you
🦇- you can’t take much more of this. Their overbearing nature is starting to wear at you psyche
🦇- they’re insane. You should’ve called Commissioner Gordon the second they kidnapped darling
🦇- maybe this is what you deserve. A life of imprisonment in exchange for your complicitness in the kidnapping of darling
🦇- yes, you were complicit but you didn’t know any better. You thought going along with their plan would make them love you
🦇- turns out you were right. It just didn’t go at all like you thought it would
🦇- sure, you’ve made some mistakes in your quest for love and family. But you don’t deserve this
🦇- you don’t plan on being kept here like a pet for the rest of your life
🦇- there’s only one solution: escape
…

Takes practice
Simon 'Ghost' Riley x Reader
Crossposting from AO3.
Part 1 >> Part 2
The bit regarding the satellite phones and telemarketers was inspired by the first chapters of Shadowed by Tarajanee.
Absolutely adore that work and I thought those scenes at the beginning were lovely!
Word count: 13k
Summary: Simon is deployed for the first time since the beginning of your relationship. Instead of finding purpose in keeping the world clean, he finds it in keeping himself alive, because he's never been this eager to come home.
18+
CW: smut!!! dry humping, mutual masturbation, thigh fucking, P in V. Fluff, this is very fluffy. Soft Simon Riley, Simon is absolutely fucking whipped. Self-deprecating thoughts, intrusive thoughts, angst if you squint so don't squint and you'll only get yearning and love making.
Masterlist 🦊 | Series Masterlist 🦊
Simon doesn’t remember your eyes.
He’s been clawing at his face, both literally and metaphorically, because each time he closes his eyelids to succumb to exhaustion, he sees your face.
And you’re pretty. So much. He envisions the curve of your smile and how your lips part to give way to your teeth. The lines at the corners that scrunch your nose and how it flushes when it’s too cold out. He has memorized the shape of your brows for every expression. Knows the line of your cheekbones and how they swell under your eyes when you smile.
Your face is lovely, even when he conjures it in his head. But when your form breaks through the mist, he gets startled every time. Because he can’t see your eyes.
It's like a mock picture of you. A mimicry gone bad. You’re there, fresh and real, whispering sweet words to him, tossing a quip, or moaning breathlessly as he remembers the way he’s fucked you, but your eyes are carved out. Blank spots instead of the windows to your soul, like everyone always seems to chatter about.
Sure, he remembers the shape of your eyes, and if he takes deep breaths, cancels out Johnny’s blabber blaring from his cot, and enters a deep meditative state, he might be able to draw their outline.
But it’s the shade he misses. Are they sapphire, dark, and cryptic? Or frostbite blues. Emerald, maybe. He ponders, but he’s not sure. Brown, like his? Chocolate, with swirling hazels like golden speckles. Stormy grey. Charcoal black. Amber. Gold. Fucking crimson.
He doesn’t know.
But it's only been three months since he left.
And it’s been six months since Simon has taken you on his bed and fucked his name into you. Six months since he’s finally tasted your skin and imprinted your flavor on his tongue.
It’s your fault, he thinks, if now everything he eats tastes bland. Nothing sweeter than the salt of you. The dichotomy is not lost on him. He’s a rational man, and figures easily that skin can't be sweet, especially not after he made you sweat by pounding you into the mattress. Yet he might have lost a marble or two after that, because now not even honey can compare.
Which is why he’s moved his things in your room. Just because it’s bigger, he told you. No other reason, really.
Fucking liar.
But again, you’re as saccharine as you taste. And maybe not as naïve as he thinks. Because ever since that night, six months ago, your hands often intertwine with his own when you guide him to bed – your bed.
And that’s how he found a nightstand full of his things on the side closer to the doorway of the room. There’s the book you’ve lent him and a re-filled plastic bottle of water right next to it, one that he should probably throw away like you constantly tell him. Something about microplastics, but fuck if he knows. Because ever since that night, he’s lost a bit of his logic, a lot more of his sanity: you can speak for hours on end and he wouldn’t hear a damn thing if not for how your voice vibrates against his eardrums, sending tingles down his spine.
Surreptitiously, his things have started to appear in your room. He doesn’t have much, a phew photos of his family are shuffled with your trinkets. Plain, white frames stuffed in between your smiles on pictures you’ve taken with friends.
A frame of his medals, the ones you insisted he kept, nailed to the wall next to your PhD certificate.
Tidy, onyx wardrobe polluted with pinks and greens. Breathable cotton and faux furs. Fuzzy fabrics that leave a rainbow of synthetic hairs on his clothes. He doesn’t bother to pluck them off, it’s just another piece of you he’s lucky to carry around.
His old bedroom turns into a storage room. Filled with boxes of forgotten things and broken appliances you can’t be bothered to fix.
And he promises to tinker a little with the vacuum, so you won’t have to spend money on a new one and use your savings for your guilty pleasures. That book you saw when you went out together for groceries? Consider it yours. The cooking classes you wanted to attend at that restaurant you’re always raging about? He’s already bought you a pristine new apron.
And maybe he’ll take you there, too. Ask for a more secluded table where he can still spot the door, so he can also uncoil the muscles of his back and use his eyes only to look at you, instead of having them dart around for dangers.
But fuck, he can’t do any of that now.
It’s his first mission after that night, six months ago, and Simon is already feeling withdrawal symptoms. You’re worse than morphine on a dying man; you leave him aching for something he knows he can have because you're so obviously there, but he’s so stupidly far away.
And he can’t even tell you where he is. Can’t even give you some peace of mind. Can barely call you, because Johnny’s been hogging the satellite phone to talk to Lord-knows-who.
The Scot is not selfish, Simon knows he would only have to ask, and the bulky device would practically materialize in his hand. But Simon also knows that if he dared, he wouldn’t hear the end of it. Because in the years spent in the task force, he’s never needed to call anyone.
Can’t call the dead, now, can you?
And now, popping a question like that would only raise suspicions. It would have his mates up his arse until his head would split in half.
But it’s been six months since that night. Three months since he left.
And that pocket of time he’s managed to spend with you, uninterrupted, almost made him accustomed to civilian life. To the lack of his mask and the AC of the flat breezing against his face. The taste of homecooked meals. The constant presence of another soul (a beautiful one at that) in his same space.
With you, he’s never parched – of anything. You feed him mind, heart and body, showering him with that innocent love you so easily dispense, allowing him to bathe in it.
He’d listen to your never-ending chat for days. His mind has always roared with sounds, yet the more noise you make the more you silence it. Baffling, really, how he’s spent his whole life looking for quiet and found it in the loudest person on earth.
He’s always sated with your kisses, your words, your quick mind and razor-sharp wit, your moans and your mewls, and God, anything you were willing to give. Your lips, your spit, the juices he makes you drip, and the ones he makes you spray. He dreams of cupping your clit with his mouth as he ravages your cunt with two thick fingers until you’re splashing on his tongue. He’d drink you dry, if you’d let him.
And oh, you have.
There’s the wonderful catch. These are not wishes; these are memories. Too real and fresh ones for them to be just another one of his daydreams.
Finally, after three months of pondering – or better, yearning – he realizes that every skin-prickling migraine his mates would induce is worth the sweet, sweet sound of your voice.
He’s disgustingly sweaty. He tugs at the lip of his collar and grimaces when he feels the cotton unstick from the dampness on his chest.
Johnny's sitting idly, enjoying the few days of break from mayhem. Just a handful of hours allowed, really, enough to get them back on their feet – tactical planning, refill of their resources. Boring shite like that. But at least it’s a breather all right.
“Got the phone, Johnny?” He grumbles.
And Johnny would love to act as none the wiser, but his eyes peek from behind the sketchbook he holds in his hand. The smirk that curls at his lips has Simon roll his eyes.
He makes a beckoning gesture with his fingers, giving him a pointed look. “Johnny.”
“L.T.” He responds in kind. “Callin’ the landlord?”
Simon levels him with a deadpan look that could freeze the desert they’re stuck in. “Sergeant.”
Bastard’s too cunning for his own good.
Johnny drops the sketchbook immediately, showing the lieutenant his palms in defense. The cheeky bastard that he is doesn’t manage to conceal the absolute fascination in his eyes. He’s studying his superior as if he’s staring at another species.
And Simon doesn’t blame him. He’s like a sock that’s been turned inside out, the negative image of himself. All that gloomy energy turned blinding light, ever since he’s had a taste of what life could be with you in it.
But alas, no one wants to have the Ghost up their arse, so Johnny looks around the messy area around his cot and plucks the girthy satellite phone out of it.
Simon picks it up by pinching the tiny antenna on its side. It prompts Johnny’s smirk to broaden.
“Haven’t done anythin’ with it.” He quips, letting it hang in the air for a second longer. “Or have I.”
Simon grunts a noise of disgust. “Spare me.”
He finds a secluded spot in the area they're occupying. There's nothing around them but the rubble of a city that has been torn by war and time. The sight is dour, and the silence echoes a dark past he hasn’t witnessed. Even so, the remains of the buildings are tall enough to offer their lot some cover.
He slides with his back against a wall, knees spread wide.
He knows your number by heart, his thumb presses each button with newfound resolve. Only when he brings the phone to his ear, does his determination falter. Because he hasn't contacted you in any way, shape, or form for three months. So, what if you’re livid, now? You’d have every right. He’d understand if you’d rip him a new one through the receiver. He just hopes you didn’t spend these days rethinking your choices.
God, you’ve infected him with this overthinking bullshit.
“Hello?” Your voice breaks through the fog in his brain, like a hand wiping mist from glass, and his own breath threatens to choke him. He’s speechless for a moment, forgetting how to function properly.
Just your voice has sent his mind into overdrive - burnt his synapses to ashes.
He reckons he’s completely fucked.
“Hello?” You repeat, sounding a little more annoyed.
You grumble something about telemarketers having lost the decency to call at a reasonable hour. And when he doesn't answer again, he hears you sigh. Your voice gets all clinical, then, as if you were trained to repeat the same script over and over. “Listen, if you’re trying to sell me somethin’, my husband’s not home – he takes care of that stuff.”
He snorts.
“Your husband?”
Silence.
There’s a sort of shifting sound, he gathers you might have removed the phone from your ear and checked for the number on the screen. He can practically see your eyes squinting at the phone.
He hears you gasp, and he hints at a smile. Fucking hell, he doesn’t remember the last time he’s done that.
“Simon?” You venture.
“Hello, love.”
You squeal, and he pulls the phone away from his ear with a grimace. But he’s tired of lying to himself – his heart is soaring.
"Christ. Made my ears ring," he deadpans.
You chuckle, sighing afterward, as if a weight has been lifted from your chest. God, you’re a dream to listen to. If only he could also look at your face right now, just bask in the way your smile would light up the room.
“Serves you right,” you chide him, as if that could ever be a punishment. “Could’ve called a little earlier than three months in. Was already looking for a new flatmate.”
He’s eternally thankful for the skull mask, even if it’s soddened with his sweat because if anyone were to walk by, they wouldn’t see how his face has softened.
“Yeah?” He sniffs, “Made a new flyer and all tha’?”
“Oh yeah,” You agree flippantly. There’s a shuffling sound that reminds him of bedsheets. “Made sure to add my boyfriend left me as a footnote.”
The corners of his lips twitch minutely.
“Thought it was your husband who wasn’t home.” He retorts. “Got a stash of ‘em, then?”
Your chuckle is a breath of fresh air. He wants to have it imprinted in his eardrums, replacing the aggravating tinnitus.
“Oh, y’know,” you sigh dramatically. “Bit o’ this, bit o’ that. Keeps things interesting.”
“Gotta have a chat with the lad, then.” He taunts, Set some rules.”
“Good luck with that. He rarely listens.”
He hums fondly. It’s all he can give you, right now.
He’s new to this, relationships have never been his forte. For the first time in his life, he’s having someone else guide him. It’s hard, he won’t deny it, having another set of hands grasp the wheel, instead of his own. But he’s letting you, however slowly. You’re understanding, and you’re allowing him to leave his foot on the brakes. You never push him, you go at his pace – even if it’s blatantly annoying, how sluggish his movements are. Yet you don’t seem to mind, and he’s eternally grateful for it.
“How…” You start. He can tell you’re unsure, whether or not you can ask these things. Whether or not he can answer them. “How are you?”
His eyes soften.
“Good,” he reassures you. “’S hot.”
You hum. “North Africa.”
He clicks his tongue. “No.”
“Okay.” A beat. “Middle East?”
Eh. “No.”
You gasp.
“You’re throwing me off guard, aren’t you? You said it’s hot, but it actually isn’t.” You say cleverly, even if you’re aware it’s most likely untrue. “North America, then. Like - Canada.”
“Drop it, maybe.” He offers gently. “Making a fool o’ yourself.”
“Alaska.”
“Love.” He warns, but his voice is kind. “Wastin’ time.”
“Mh, the script has changed, I see.” You tease him, and he can tell you’re smiling, by the way your voice comes. “Thought you were gonna hit me with the classified.”
“Like to keep you on your toes.”
“Been on my toes for three months.”
His heart clenches a little. He doesn’t want that. Doesn’t want you to live on the line like that. He wonders if you’ve ever felt like this, in the four years he’s lived with you without having anything tethering each other, if not a casual friendship. Were you ever afraid when he left for his deployments? Or is this new to you, like it is for him?
“Fixed the vacuum, by the way.” You tell him lightly, as if sensing the tense air your comment has instilled.
He silently thanks you for breaking the silence when he couldn’t. A gentle huff of relief travels through the receiver.
“What was the problem?” He asks, even if not really fussed about the state of the thing.
“Fuck if I know.” You shrug. “Gave it a few whacks and it started working again.”
He fails to keep in a huff of laughter. “Fucking hell, ‘s tha’ what you’ve been doing, then? Hitting appliances?”
“Fixing appliances.” You correct him. “And stress baking. Lots of it.”
“Work’s botherin’ ya?”
“S’fine.” You sigh sweetly, as though that could give him some peace of mind. “Everything’s fine over here, you don’t have to worry.”
Selfless angel, you are. He would have to be daft not to realize that you’re probably leeching your heart dry at the thought that something might happen to him. He feels like a fool for not having contacted you sooner, even when he had only a minute to spare.
His pride be damned.
“’M sorry I didn’t call earlier.” He apologizes, because the least he can do is hope you forgive him for being like a baby deer on ice about all this.
“You called.” Your voice is soft. “’S what matters.”
He knows what you mean. He’s alive, that’s what matters. He’s faring good enough to chat with you, that’s what matters. He’s missing you as much as you’re longing for him, that’s what matters.
He leans forward, bracing his elbows on his knees. His offhand runs across his face and he has to rip his own head out of his arse before the thoughts overwhelm him.
How can he put you through this? He should’ve left three weeks in, four years ago; should’ve let you share your home with someone more reliable, one who didn’t have a blade oscillating above his neck.
And yet at the same time, he can't let go of you.
You’re so good to him, you’re the drop of water in a life that’s always felt arid. You made his barren heart flourish without even trying – he didn’t think anyone could, he thought he was bound to be frozen soil, not a garden. But here you fucking are, with your tiny watering can, nourishing the earth and causing it to sprout.
He’s selfish. He is. There is no karmic balance in his reasons. The scale tips in his favor through and through, because he’s sure you’re not gaining anything from this relationship, if not a spike in anxiety and its hand around your neck.
“How long?” You ask, seemingly unable to bear the silence.
"Few weeks." He croaks and clears his throat when he notices how cracked his voice sounds. “Be back in three. Could be two, if things go to plan.”
The silence on your end is deafening. Unwittingly giving him a taste of his own medicine.
“Countdown starts, then.” You reply with that sunshine in your voice. Sunbeams through ominous clouds. “Gonna tally the days on the wall with one of your can openers.”
He snorts. “Lotta money to fix.”
“We can put ugly wallpaper over it,” you propose. “So the next person to rent the place will remove it and a whole kidnapping slash ghost story will spread around the neighborhood.”
You’re crazy, he thinks, but not unkindly. His heart squeezes in his chest.
“Fucking numpty.”
“Fucking numpty, or fucking numpty, derogative?”
He smirks. “Former.”
“Wonderful.” You say with a pinch of a smile he can’t see, sounding all smug.
However, nothing nice can last forever, not in Simon Riley’s plane of existence. He spots his captain approaching him, fiddling with the boonie hat in his grasp while his other hand lazily dries droplets of sweat on his forehead.
“Gotta go.” He mutters. Waits a bit. Shuffles through his thoughts and decides to swallow his pride, because you deserve at least that much. “Missed you. Still do.”
You're silent for a moment longer before you give him a last glimpse of your voice. The one he'll hold onto like a lifeline for the next three – hopefully two – weeks.
“Miss you too.” You say gently. “Come home soon.”
And he’s back suddenly.
Earlier than expected, at that – one week only. Price was all business, a few days after he caught him sneaking a phone call. Telling him things like “Need you at HQ. Work with Laswell, make sure classified intel stays classified”. And when he questioned why would he send his sniper and lieutenant to do a job an analyst should do, Price answered with a curt “Because I can trust you”.
Honestly, what could he have said to that? Even if it smelled fishy from afar, his reasoning sounded mostly reliable. Because you would send your most trusted to deal with sensitive information, right? And if Simon were a bit more daft and a bit less intuitive, he would've shrugged it off.
But it was plain as day when his boot landed on British soil, duffel bag in hand. When his phone pinged after he turned off airplane mode, and a text popped up:
[Unknown number]: Take a few days off for the jet lag.
That he realized the ploy his teammates had concocted. To be honest, he wasn’t as resentful as he thought he was going to be. There was lingering thankfulness – somewhere, deep below layers and layers of stoicism.
[You]: Time zones aren’t that different.
[Unknown number]: Take a few days off to just rest, then.
[You]: Not that tired.
[Unknown number]: Never took you for one to question orders.
[You]: Never took you for one to put personal life before our job.
Simon waited patiently under the overhanging lip of the hangar. The Kevlar of his glove crinkled as his fingers curled around the hand of his duffle bag. The rain creates a gentle buzz against the metal.
It took a while for the other bubble to appear, as if the other person – most likely Price, judging by the vocabulary used in the texts – was thinking about the right thing to say.
And the right thing it was, when the words fluttered on Simon’s phone screen.
[Unknown number]: About time you put yours first, though.
Simon, for once, agreed.

The keys slide into the keyhole with familiarity. He turns it three times, content to see you’ve locked the door all the way. When he steps in, the flat is quiet, but he isn’t expecting otherwise. It’s late at night, the hands of the clock that’s hanging above the telly mark somewhere around three in the morning, but it’s too dark to be sure.
He's ever so gentle when he closes the door and gingerly sets the duffle bag at his feet.
The first thought popping in his head it’s you. You’re not expecting him to be back so soon, and he has this trepidation in him that wants to command his feet to the door of your bedroom only to see how you’d react to his unexpected presence.
But he takes a moment to digest this new feeling.
It's hard to realize that, finally, you're not dreading something. For the first time in an excruciatingly long while, Simon isn't afraid. While his brain is rigidly wired in a way that makes him refuse to acknowledge his vulnerabilities, the heart knows best.
And he is scared. He’s always been scared, ever since his mother granted him the possibility of walking this earth. Being excited to live has never been his strong suit, but he’s learning. He’s trying.
Takes practice, to accept you’re worth your happiness.
So, as a novice learner, it’s a little jarring to realize that when his feet land on the hardwood floors of this house, there's no need for fear. He can tuck the dread away, stuff it in a pocket, and close the flap, all the while being sure no harm will come his way. Certainty that with you there’s no need for all that, for vigilance – he can unravel the knots, and simply feel what comes, because it's not going to hurt him.
You could never.
Hooking a finger under the hem of the balaclava, he snatches it off his head and lays it on the shelf next to the doorway. It’s soaked in rain, but he’ll wash it tomorrow. And he’ll use your fabric softener, so it’ll smell like your sheets.
The flat looks awfully dull with the lights off. The bright colors are mere shades of grey, and while he’ll never admit it out loud, he truly thinks the orange of the eastern wall brightens the room as you've told him. The thought itself baffles him – Simon Riley now knows a thing or two about home design. You’ve changed him in ways he never expected.
However, the thing that shocks him even more than his newfound knowledge of home interior embellishments, is when the smell of baked goods bullies its way into his nose. His mouth waters in a Pavlovian response.
Right.
Stress baking.
He kneels to unlace his boots, before toeing them off gently, making sure they won’t thud against the floor and disturb your sleep. Then, he practically floats to the kitchen, still unbelieving at the idea that he gets to come home and find delicacies as such ready to eat. Sometimes, in the span of life he decides to call the “Before you”, he’d snatch a few MREs from the stash in base and eat them once back in his flat.
Easy, quick, and edible. Even if they taste like cardboard.
And now he gets to walk into a kitchen that smells like blueberries and buttercream and black tea. He gets to grab a lumpy muffin from the tray on the kitchen island and sink his teeth in its golden and blue fluff. The flavors erupt on his tongue, from the saccharine spongy cake to the sweet tang of the blueberry juice as the fruit bursts under his teeth.
He selfishly hopes your stress baking will last for a few more days.
Nevertheless, while he’d gladly eat the whole tray if it were up to him, there’s something he craves more than a full stomach. And you're currently waiting in the other room, probably tucked under the duvet because the British weather tonight is rigidly cold.
He shrugs off his wind jacket and drapes it over the backrest of a kitchen chair. He can’t afford to take any steps backward. The coat rack is just a few paces back from the kitchen, nailed to the wall near the entrance, but he really doesn’t care. That handful of seconds is too precious to waste.
The steps he takes through the dark hallway are measured and silent; years of special forces training have taught a man his size how to be what his callsign implies.
Discreetly, he turns the knob, trying to make sure he won’t wake you with a startle because the door has barged open. However, the one caught by surprise it’s him. Because you’re not asleep, even if it’s three in the morning.
Oh, he wants to give you a proper earful – sure, he's not your father, and if you're so keen on staying awake up until this hour on a weekday, then it's your funeral.
Does it help school the unruly necessity of keeping you as healthy as can be? Absolutely fucking not. You’re a heathen and he hates you for it.
But now you’re resting your back against the headboard, cross-legged on the bed. Satin blue navy camisole paired with matching shorts, big headphones on your ears, and your laptop on the mattress. You’re typing away. He’s sure you’ve pushed back an assignment from work and now you’re running out of time.
The room is dark, the only light being the screen of your computer casting your silhouette against the wall behind you. It’s silent aside from the patter of rain on the windowpane – you haven’t closed the blinds because Simon knows you love the moon flooding your room with gentle light. However, tonight the clouds are dominating the night sky, but the lampposts across the street are doing what the moon can’t, and you seem to favor that over complete darkness.
It’s clear you haven’t noticed him yet, music blaring in your ears and eyes focused on the monitor. But he’s seen you all right. And your eyes are cast downward, your lashes like annoying curtains depriving him of what he's been missing for the past three months.
In spite of how muffled his movements have been, you seem to notice a shift in the air. Something that makes your skin prickle, a pair of eyes that shouldn’t be in the same room, nor in the same flat – not now, at least, when he should be mummified in Kevlar and breathable cotton somewhere in the desert. He's secretly proud of how easily you seem to feel fluctuations in the environment. Makes him take a breath of relief, that your reflexes aren't dull even when your senses are already busy.
You lift your head swiftly, and he helps you focus on him by flicking up the light switch. The sudden brightness makes you squint, but you blink it away and finally clock him at the door.
And your eyes are the color of the sun, he thinks. How could he forget, that they’re the color of a bonfire when it's cold out. Of yellows, oranges, and those occasional sparkles of green when the wood is not dry, but still burns to keep him warm.
Realization paints your face with stunning colors: darkening cheeks, eyes shaped like crescent moons under the pressure of rising cheekbones. Mouth curving beautifully, and it seems to catch your teeth. The smile stretches your lips abruptly, morphing your face in spare seconds.
He sees it happen in slow motion. You rip your headphones and carelessly toss them on the bed, your laptop is skewed to the side so quickly that he instinctively reaches out a hand to prevent its fall. Thankfully, the stars are on your side tonight, and the balance tips it on the mattress, instead of the floor.
You’re a little hurricane, scurrying off the bed and kicking off the sheets. Getting on your feet and almost slipping in the attempt to reach him in as little time as possible. A tornado of limbs envelops him in the blink of an eye. He barely has time to react that you’re already coiled around him like ivy– arms, legs, and all.
Luckily, the doorway is right behind him, and he manages to tumble back and lean against it. Your arms are vines around his neck. Your legs are roots encircling his waist. You seem to grow on him, supplying his wretched heart with the sap of life you carry – symbiotic. He feels like he can breathe again and has been doing it wrong all this time.
He helps your balance by keeping a firm hold around your waist with his arms, encapsulating you in his warmth. Lean fingers spread on your back, yearning to touch as much as he can reach.
“Easy,” he rumbles. His voice is hoarse because whatever reaction he'd imagined, all this fussing surely wasn’t it.
Your fingers thread through his hair and tug lightly at his scalp. He’s silently apologetic because it must be wet with both rain and sweat, and he's sure the smell wafting from him isn't exactly cologne-worthy. But you don't seem to care, because after you've thoroughly inspected the crook of his neck, your face comes back into view.
Your eyes are the color of joy.
“Welcome back.” You whisper, as if it’s a secret between you two. And you kiss him because surely you must want it as much as he does. A flutter of lashes brushes his cheekbone when you tilt your head to deepen the kiss. Nails scrape at his scalp in the gentlest of ways.
Simon feels your smile before he sees it. “You taste like blueberries.”
And he exhales against your lips. “Found ‘em waiting for me in the kitchen. Baked for an army, y’ have.”
You peck his lips once more, as if you couldn’t fathom a second longer without having them on yours. “Figured you’d be hungry. MRIs can’t be that tasty.”
"MREs,” he corrects. “And you’re right. They ain’t.”
Simon is not sure he’s ever received such a warm welcome, or such warmth in general. He’s not going to complain, of course, but that doesn't mean it leaves him any less rattled each time.
He gently sets you down at the edge of the mattress, standing between your legs – which you’ve pliantly spread to make room for him.
You gesture with your hand from left to right, "Potato, Po-tah-to."
"One is food, the other is medical equipment," he deadpans.
You glare up at him, as if to ask what the hell he wants now – it's three in the morning. Can’t be arsed to correct vowels at three in the morning.
“Potato.” You enunciate it better now, and it steals a lazy grin from him. “Po-tah-to.”
After having flicked your forehead at your insistence, he reverently lays his hand on your cheek and spreads his fingers into your hair.
“Alright?” You ask him.
“Mhmh,” it’s his only reply.
If only to feel you more, he guides your face to his belly. You seem to appreciate the gesture because you're already nuzzling his shirt, fisting it at his back for good measure. Simon feels your back expand and deflate under his palm when you breathe. Feels the rhythmic thump thump of your heart at his fingertips.
You’re life in its purest form.
Face first into his abdomen, your voice is obviously muffled, but he hears it clearly anyway. "You smell like a sewer, mate."
He snorts, and lightly tugs at your hair, enough to make your head tilt back. He squints his eyes at you. “Cry ‘bout it, mate.”
Simon bends at the waist as you chuckle. Places a kiss on the crown of your head. Your eyes flutter closed and so do his.
For a moment, there’s nothing but you two. The world muffles its noise to favor the sound of your breaths. The rain patters against the windowpane. Your laptop has gone into standby mode so now the screen is dark. The mellow light on the ceiling, a pale yellow, is like your discreet personal spotlight.
Then, he reluctantly pulls away, and you chase him for more, pouting when he doesn’t seem to come back. But when he starts to undress, your scowl is easily replaced by a lazy grin. To increase the dramatics of the moment, you lean back on your elbows and wiggle your brows at him, “Well, well.”
You’re not subtle at all with the way your eyes follow a trail down his back, how the muscles fold when his hand reaches to the collar of his shirt and pulls it off his head. Curves and muscles and the indent of his spine. Skin freckled with scars you never ask a thing about because you're kind and you’re giving him time to open up on his own.
He’s put on some weight ever since your relationship has transitioned into something more meaningful, including feelings he still doesn’t have the guts to acknowledge. His abs are not as defined as before, they’re tucked under a layer of fat he’s not really accepting as of lately. The scar running across his stomach and its other companions only add to his self-deprecating streak.
He eyes you briefly as he unbuckles his belt, searching for what he’s sure is going to be a grimace, but he's met instead with the stupidest look he’s ever witnessed. Slow blinking at his form the more he undresses himself. Lips parted as if you’ve tried and failed to catch your jaw.
And that gives him the right to take those thoughts and shove them into the fear pocket. Sew it shut. No need to fear a thing, if you look at him that way.
You bite the tip of your tongue between your teeth. "Givin' me a show, lieutenant?"
The corner of Simon’s lips tugs upward and the sudden self-hatred sublimates under the warm adoration in your eyes.
“Cheeky little thing,” he rumbles, letting his khakis pool at his ankles. He steps out of them and shrugs them off when they catch his feet.
One last step, and he’s already hooking a finger under the hem of your blue camisole, slowly lifting it up. There's an impish gleam in your eyes that promises trouble and he would love nothing more than to drown in whatever disaster you're planning.
He stands between your legs only in his underwear and after you’ve shut the laptop and placed it on your nightstand, your hands immediately come to rest on his stomach. Simon sighs at the touch.
“You’re a menace,” he says gently when you drum your fingers up to his chest.
Honestly, he hopes you don’t care if he smells like a cocktail of grime and sweat and rain, because, as much as he wishes for a hot shower, the sight of you melts whatever need away.
Your eyes travel downward, taking a generous eyeful of him. However, he knows you’re not just ogling; you're searching him for wounds.
Bandages.
Sutures.
Anything that might tell you whether he's hurt or not.
Obviously, Simon knows you want to ask. But you’re sensible when it comes to his job. In spite of the jabs about all the “Classified” he’s given you as answers, he knows you don’t hold a grudge against him. He also doesn't like to bring work at home, taking pains to leave his safe space untainted by it – instead, he lets you do the detective work yourself.
A sweet sigh leaves your lips when you settle on the fact that he's unscathed, and you lift your arms up to help him take off your top.
"A menace?" You quip, feigning offense. "M’not the one looking naked and yummy."
“You’re about to.”
You don’t look away from his eyes when his fingers pull your top up and off. The camisole is gently removed past your head, the satin leaving your hair a little staticky.
“A menace,” he murmurs once more, his tone softer now as he tosses the garment in a vague direction.
You wrap your arms around his waist, propping your chin on the hollow between his ribs, taking in his face as the sight that it is to your eyes. He doesn’t have the energy to question why, and just basks in the adoring attention and in the well-deserved skin-to-skin contact.
"How was it this time?" You ask gently.
His arm drapes over your shoulders, slowly stroking at your skin. A tender kiss to your hairline has you automatically sighing. You do it every time he kisses your head. He's mentally taken note of how his lips press a button of sorts that makes it all wash away, like suds under the jet of water.
“Same as always,” he murmurs, keeping his tone low and soft for your ears only.
You hum in acknowledgment. "So?"
He smirks, a curve hidden in your hair. “Classified.”
You scoff and playfully slap his butt. He pulls back with a newfound glow in his eyes.
“Not Full Metal Jacket, if you’re wondering.”
You hum, deciding to play along. “Spies involved?”
He snorts and tucks a rogue lock behind your ear. “Sure.”
You poke his chest as you make your definitive guess. “Three days of the condor!”
His eye twitches when, amongst the myriads of films you’ve ever watched in your life, you quote the one with the CIA involved. He has to flatten his face into something more neutral. Surely yours was a clear shot in the dark that somehow hit the right spot – even a broken clock is right, twice a day. Still, your blind guess doesn’t leave him any less distressed.
“Sorta.” He offers through gritted teeth.
And you don’t push any further, sluggishly resting your cheek on his belly.
"Were you more Robert Redford?” You mumble with half-closed eyes, "Or Faye Dunaway?”
Relief washes over him and he can’t help but huff. Plops a hand on top of your head and smooths down to the ends of your locks, rolling them between the pads of his fingers.
“Faye Dunaway, love.” He rumbles. “No question.”
You playfully tighten the hold around his waist, and with a tug, he's pulled down onto the bed. Simon knows he could easily win whichever battle if you’re the opponent, but he’ll always pretend to struggle just to humor you. He’s careful though, so he props himself on his forearms to avoid crushing you with his bulk.
Gently, you kiss his nose but he doesn’t pull away, instead allowing the kiss to be reciprocated on your cheek. He reaches out for the switch next to the headboard and turns off the lights.
Your eyes are the color of a summer’s night.
They’re dark but twinkle with starlight. Pupils blown and the glowing halo of your irises around them like an eclipsed sun. The light coming from outside seems to favor you, creating shapes around your face able to turn you into a dream made reality.
“I’ll call in sick tomorrow.” You tell him, nose to nose.
“Won't bother anyone, will it?” He asks mindfully, although he cares very little if your co-workers might get a little miffed about your last-minute call.
You shake your head softly, causing your noses to brush. “Nope, they’ll understand.”
And so, he unfolds, rolling onto his back and taking you with him. Your head is guided by a big hand to rest on his chest. He fits you perfectly into his side, making sure every piece of you adheres like glue to his skin.
“Y’need a shower?” You murmur in his skin, eyes fluttering closed. Your fingers are tracing mindless patterns on his chest, skimming over hair and the odd scar here and there.
“Tomorrow,” he replies quietly. “Sleep now.”
“Alright,” you whisper. “Wake me up when you do, yeah?”
“Sure.” He says, looking down at the top of your head. He leaves a kiss in its ruffled mess.
“G’night, love.” He breathes.
You murmur it back, and fall into your slumber.
────────────
Simon opens his eyes with his heart thundering in his chest. He doesn’t know why, and likely pegs it to mere habit. Three months stuck in hypervigilance will have your body unconsciously overreact at the most subtle of changes, even if there are none.
There’s too much light in the room for it to be night, and a single look at the window tells him the sun is just shy of rising.
During the night, you must’ve moved around and he must have followed you, because now he has your back to his chest. An arm slung around your waist, the other tucked beneath your neck.
He gently tugs the duvet a little higher, over your shoulder, and spends the next few minutes just looking at how peaceful you look.
Next to a killer.
His stomach churns wildly.
You’re home, his heart says. You’re not a killer here.
A shame, truly, that his brain doesn’t agree in the slightest. Two organs fighting like separate entities, and the whole brawl is happening inside of him, mercilessly tearing his flesh apart.
But it’s already broken, isn’t it? What else is there to shred.
Yet he’s home and you’re comfortable next to him. So how broken can he be, really?
Torn. Shredded. Lookin’ like you went through the grinder and barely came out of it alive.
He forces his eyes shut and buries his face in your hair, nuzzling your nape.
Pretty thing, she is. Who the fuck d’you think you are, mh?
A sharp inhale. Breathing you in. You smell sweet enough for the sounds in his head to buzz out. Not silent yet, but quiet enough for him to have a breather.
You don’t know how long it takes for his body to expel the exorbitant amount of adrenaline produced in three months of deployment. How his back cracks when it hits the comfortable mattress of yours and his bedroom, after having spent way too much time packed like a sardine on sordid cots or much-too-small sleeping bags.
How he fucking hates it, when you feel so soft and untouched, while he has more scars than bloody years on his back.
Not right. Ain’t fucking right to you.
His hand snakes from your waist to follow the curve of your arm. He follows the bulge it makes under the comforter. The rain has turned into a light drizzle, allowing the sound of his skin brushing over yours and the shuffle of the blanket to echo in his ears.
He scoots impossibly closer, pressing your back against his chest hoping your skin would mold with his. Nose buried in the crook of your shoulder; kisses light as breeze following the length of it.
You smell so good you disarm him. He sighs as if he’s been utterly defeated, lost a battle he didn’t even know he was fighting.
His mind hushes, finally. His heart unwinds itself – springs let loose, pulse calm.
There’s you. The way your breaths come. Your limbs stirring at the gooseflesh left by his kisses. The rising sun lapping at your skin. The rise and fall of your back.
It’s calm.
Your head turns slightly, looking over your shoulder. You must only see his eyes, lazily glancing at you through pale lashes.
Yours are a dawning sun.
They’re soft and gentle, pale yellows and blues, peeking above the sheer horizon of sleep you’re trying to overcome. Idle, slow, but most welcome.
“Hey,” you croak, blinking the drowsiness away. “You okay?”
He hums a quiet yeah in your skin. Hasn’t even noticed his hand returning to your stomach and pulling you in, angling you against his lap.
And fuck him, but he’s sporting the hard-on of a lifetime.
He knows you’ll understand that he’s been deprived of such pleasures for three months, but it doesn’t make him any less embarrassed. A hand in his pants, while he hid somewhere more private in the middle of nowhere was a temporary fix that fixed very fucking little. Especially not after having been spoiled by you.
Simon doesn’t necessarily want to fuck you, now. Sure, his dick might have a head of its own, and he wouldn’t complain against it were it to happen, but he still has control of his actions. And now he just wants to feel you, whether inside or out doesn’t matter – as long as it’s you.
Nevertheless, he isn’t expecting you to have much different plans. Naturally, he isn’t going to protest.
Your ass tentatively presses against his length, the satin of your shorts sliding easily along the cotton of his boxers. You’re still so sleepy – he sees you digging a knuckle in your eye, nostrils flaring as you let out a big yawn.
Were you aware of what you were doing, or were you being a goddamn minx?
“Well, good mornin’,” you murmur, a lick of a smile on your lips. “Brought me a souvenir from bumfuck nowhere?”
Minx it is.
He snuffs out a chuckle by harshly pressing his lips against your shoulder, sewing his lips shut. Unfortunately, his chest rumbles against your back and you catch it before he manages to catch himself.
Your hand goes to rest above his own on your stomach, fingers intertwining.
Soft skin on both sides: palm to your belly, knuckles to your hand. He’s sandwiched in bliss. Three months away, barely any contact, and all he apparently needed to alleviate some wounds was just a handful of hours spent asleep in your presence.
His lips part slightly. Kisses turn wetter and teeth bite at your neck, his tongue darting out to subsequently soothe the ache. Your hand has already guided his own to your breast, and your mouth is breathing sounds he’s missed.
And he tells you, because why should he hide a thing from you.
“Missed ya,” he croaks, voice a little shaky for reasons unknown. He could look in his head (or his heart) and find them – surely, they’re there. But he figures the present feels much better than the jumbled mess inside.
Reasons can wait.
“Let me feel you, yeah?”
Your head bending backward to his face is the answer you give him, back pressed flush against his chest. You guide his hand up and squeeze it around the fat of your breast to assert your approval.
But he’s not satisfied with that. Needs your voice to tell him it’s alright, that you’re not under some sleep-induced spell. That you’re fine with having him feel you, and you’re not just offering yourself because he’s been away for so long and you want to give him some sort of reward.
Simply, that you want him as much as he wants you.
His voice is raspy and low, “Words, love.”
"Please," you whisper and vigorously grind your ass against his groin. “Touch me.”
He hisses and presses forward too, meeting your movements.
He’s still a little out of it, senses overrun by the general fatigue clinging to his muscles as the aftermath of deployment, his bones weary and getting accustomed once more to the comfort of a bed instead of a cot.
Mind absolutely quiet.
He flicks his thumb over your nipple. Rolls it between thumb and forefinger. Your shuddering breath prompts him to pull at it, and it causes you to arch your back off of him, pressing further against his painfully hard cock.
He grunts against your shoulder, hand busy teasing your breasts and hips rutting against the plump flesh of your ass. You grind back against him, working in tandem to relieve at least some of that ache.
Each movement is a languid stroke of fabric that gives him enough pleasure to cause his resolve to falter. When he turns your head sideways, leaving your tits to grasp your jaw, he loses it. Your flushed cheeks, lower lip trapped between your teeth, the whites of your eyes still a little red from sleep.
Lips on lips, slotting together like magnets.
Too long.
Too damn long.
Sure, he kissed you when he came back, a bunch of hours before. But this is a whole other thing. The connection behind it, the pinch of your brows conveying the same desperation he has. Hands grabbing at flesh, bodies grinding against each other. Tongues dancing privately. Eyes closed to shut the world out. Moans and pants, dotted with the occasional curse slipping from his lips when the length of his cock catches the cleft of your ass.
His palm slides down and crosses the threshold marked by your shorts. He’s awfully delighted to find out you have nothing underneath them. Feels blessed when his middle finger slides down your cunt to find it impossibly wet.
“Oh - Simon,” He hears you whimper, and he almost comes in his briefs then and there because he has no right to hear you say his sullied name with such devotion behind it.
Seemingly feeling the need to respond in kind, your arm blindly reaches behind, and you slip it between your butt and his groin. Your hand is soft as it palms his cock, the cotton of his boxers an annoying barrier.
The tip is leaking tremendously, and he should be embarrassed about the obvious wet spot he must be sporting on his briefs. However, he can’t even manage to concoct the thought that your fingers are already fumbling with the elastic band of his underwear and finding their way in.
Simon shudders when your warm hand curls around his shaft.
You glide your hand up, collecting precum on your palm, before sliding back down again – velvet skin being pulled over the head to steer clear of overstimulation, and then down once more. Similarly, he crooks his finger to gather your wetness and uses it to roll idle circles around your clit.
And it goes on, and on, and on, and on. It’s slow and drawn out, both of you wanting to reach that high but at the same time don’t – cutting off pleasure doesn’t seem fitting, when both of you have been starved of one another.
He bends the arm beneath your neck to pull your head back, next to his own, cheek to cheek. Simon’s hips jerk to blatantly fuck your fist, yours flow with the movement of his fingers circling your clit, stroking yourself against his hand.
He starts getting antsy, however, when he notices that he can’t properly reach you. Can’t have you unravel on his fingers like he’s done so many times before. Simon wants – needs – to see you unfold and squirm under the pressure of his hand. Needs to have you cream on his fingers – as simple as it’s primal.
He murmurs against the shell of your ear, “Need to stretch you out, love.”
And – goddamn you, you whine. Your hand doesn’t stop its languid movements, but it further slows down, as if you needed all of yourself to cooperate and form a single thought.
“Jus’ do it, I missed you.” You whimper, breathy and high-pitched. “Won’t hurt much, I promise.”
Simon sucks in a sharp breath, closing his eyes because your voice has gone straight to his cock and he needs to disassociate for a second to recollect himself.
You’re a temptress, even in your loving, tender desperation. And how sweet it is to know that he isn’t the only one craving those intimate touches he can only give you. You’ve had your fair share of relationships and lovers, but has he? Some quick ones, enough to get rid of natural aches. Definitely not with a connection so deeply ingrained.
And he tastes, then, the beauty of mutuality. Of giving and receiving.
He retreats his hand and prompts you to do the same. Helps you take off your shorts and pulls his cock out of his underwear. He holds you still with one arm around your waist, palm flat against your lower belly to angle you better.
Gingerly, he guides the tip to your slit, dragging it upward until it catches your clit and you hiss, and then down to your hole. Back and forth, happily realizing that he has, in fact, made you wet enough to make it hurt less. And while he tends to be open to many requests made under the bedsheets, anything that causes you pain is a huge, firm no in his book.
Which is why he’s a bit hesitant now, pressing chaste kisses against your shoulder, trying to soften the ache that will inevitably come. A juxtaposition, really, to his cock dragging a raw, slow dance down your cunt.
It’s then that you turn your head in the pillow to groan against the fabric, and your legs clamp together and essentially choke him between the plush of your thighs.
The sensation is initially a sharp jolt that makes him spout a series of curses under his breath. But then the glisten of your cunt mixed with the precum you’ve diligently smeared all over him, with your folds and your plump thighs wrapped around him in a warm, wet hug – he sees the appeal.
And thrusts. Shamelessly – once, twice, thrice. Snapping harshly, only to draw back slowly. Grunting to your skin. Chest vibrating against your back.
“F – fuck,” he manages to choke out, wringing his eyes closed to regain some control over his actions and failing spectacularly.
Your moans don’t help. They perfectly align with the slap of his hips against your ass, with the wet noises of your sodden cunt against his cock. It’s as filthy as it’s fucking wonderful, and he’s terribly afraid he’ll finish before he can even fit the head inside of you.
The grip he has around your waist only tightens, leaving you breathless by the second. Simon has his mouth next to your ear, giving you the privilege of hearing even the smallest breaths he exhales.
“You’re so fuckin’ soft,” he whispers, panting from the effort.
Curiously, he takes a peek over your shoulder as he fucks your thighs, catching the flushed head of his cock stroking your clit and appearing each time he thrusts in. It’s fucking debauched and he loves it to bits. So much that he groans and rolls his eyes, struggling not to paint your thighs with his spend.
“Need to fuck you,” he hurries, choking on the words. “Now, love.”
Rapidly (and reluctantly), he pulls out of the pillowy, snug space your thighs had inadvertently created for him, almost hissing when the cold air hits the sensitive skin of his cock, coated in yours and his arousal.
“On your back, swee’heart,” he gently guides you down, adding a brisk yet tender “C’mon.”
And you comply, feeling almost like a ragdoll in his hands. Lips parted and slick as they form small Yes’s to convey the same ache he feels. It takes him less than a breath to place his mouth over yours again.
As he hovers above you, thick arms on each side of your head and chapped lips crashing against your own, he slots his hips between your legs. The softer flesh of the inside of your thighs is still wet from when he’s buried his cock between them. He feels the fluids stick to the skin of his hips.
Taking his time, he lets a hand wander down your chest, flowing to your belly until his fingers reach your core – where you’re wet, and warm, and still pressing up against his cock, searching for friction.
He plunges a finger inside, making the movement of your hips stutter and your mouth gasp at the sudden intrusion.
“Gotta stretch you out," he repeats languidly, because he cannot - for the life of him - put words into sentences without thinking about the structure beforehand.
He’s aware he’s big. It used to chub up his ego when he was younger and brash, but now he can’t be arsed about it. Big or small, he’s learned that it’s how you use it – and to be frank, he hasn’t used it much before you.
But he knows it’s going to hurt if he just puts it in with little to no preparation. He hasn’t seen you in three months, and you can trust him when he says he’s as ravenous as you are and can’t bloody wait to be inside you where he’s warm and blessed – but causing you pain? When it can be avoided so easily (and he can make it feel good, too)?
Absolutely not. Categorical.
He wants you to indulge in the blissful touches and the highs he can bring. Needs you to associate him to kindness and soft breaths and how much he hungers for you – he'll gladly eat you up, but only if you say so.
“’S not gonna hurt,” you mumble again, sounding a little drunk in the effort to convince him. “Please.”
Your eyes flutter to him, and they’re this dark pool he can’t seem to navigate. Lust overflowing like fat, miry tears that can’t fit in the space of your sockets, and then something even darker – longing. You’re looking at him as if it's the first time you’re seeing him.
He gets it, then, how good you’ve been at hiding it so he wouldn’t hurt at the thought of hurting you. He must've unconsciously taught you a thing or two, by wearing stoicism, neutrality, and more tangible skull masks.
You’ve missed him body and soul.
You’re there, eyes heavy and full, begging for him to come back to you.
How long have you been waiting for me like this?
“Oh, love,” he breathes and kisses you again.
A long finger inside, pushing against the place he knows makes your eyes water.
“M’sorry,” he whispers, thumb steadfast on your clit, as if he could apologize just by using his fingers because words tend to fail him when he needs them the most.
And so, he slides in his ring finger too, feeling the momentarily tight fit and the subsequent way you relax to welcome him. Your lips part to sharply breathe in, eyes scrunching close at the stretch. He can feel your hands stiffen against his back until they travel up his spine and tangle through shorn blond hair.
You’re keeping him close, with your forehead pressed to his almost to the point of pain. Your noses are in the way of the onslaught you’re causing on his mouth. Strained, heavy pants brush his lips when you part from him to breathe, before lavishing him with attention again.
You’re always good with words. You always know what to say, and yet you’re being extremely quiet – it worries him more than the look you have in your eyes.
“M’sorry.”
For being away.
For not telling you where I was.
For leaving you to wonder whether I’d come back, or not.
For not calling.
I’m sorry.
“M’so sorry.”
My girl.
His hand cradles the back of your head as if he could get you any closer, and he fucks you with his fingers.
“Don’t be,” you reply, your voice so faint and lost in the sounds of your bodies he has to perk his ears for it. “You’re home.”
My sweet, sweet girl.
And he buries his face in your neck, leaving wanton kisses that have very little erotic power to them. He’s just trying to taste you, really. Trying to commit you to memory again, conveying fierce apologies to your skin.
He can feel you clench around him, almost sucking him in, each time his fingers reach deep.
“Fuck, need to see you come.” He murmurs to the skin of your neck.
Thumb aching, he replaces it with the heel of his hand. A continuous and tortuous curl of his fingers inside of you, palm cupping your cunt and rolling against your clit. His cock aches when you whimper and stifle it by biting into his shoulder. A sharp exhale. Skin sweaty and pressed against his chest. Hands tugging at his hair.
“Don’t-” You croak. “Just- just fuck me, Si.”
He groans because stop being stubborn, will ya?
“I’ll cum the moment I get in, swee’heart.” He tries to reason and almost loses it at the raunchy, squelching sounds caused by his fingers between your legs. "Lemme take care of you before tha'."
But it's like talking to a wall.
"'s fine, love. I don't care, yeah?" Your hips move against his hand, but at this point, he gathers it's just a natural body response to pleasure. “You’ll take care of me tomorrow, and the days after that.”
Just when he’s about to rebut, you sandwich an arm between your bodies and curl soft fingers around his cock. The simple act makes him stop his motions, and he feels you pulse and clench around his fingers.
“Please.” You whisper, voice like silk.
He crumbles, then, at the sight of your eyes. Watery and glossy and wide – lust a long-forgotten thing.
He nods briefly when he surrenders. A jerky movement of his jaw as he swallows thickly. Doesn’t dare to avert his gaze from yours when he retrieves his hand and loves to catch how your brows pinch at the sudden emptiness inside. Sloppily, he coats his stiff cock with your wetness with a few weak pumps.
His eyes stay on you, as he goes in blindly, guided by touch only, and drives the tip to your hole. Tries to gauge your thoughts by the expressions on your face, and fails miserably, for once, at keeping his own concealed.
Barely aware and in control of what his face is conveying, he gathers you must appreciate it because you shift your palms to cradle his cheeks. He doesn’t know why you do it because there’s nothing on this godforsaken planet that could make his attention swerve to any thoughts but how beautiful you look when your lips stroke his own with featherlight pressure.
And he slides in, comfortably easy. Feels your puffy lips stretch to welcome him whole, inch by inch. Piece by piece of him, in every way you want to interpret it.
His jaw is locked tight because as soon as your walls envelop the head of his cock, he already feels himself shutting down. His eyes close – he can’t afford to look at how you morph for him. How your pussy swallows the first inches of his cock, puffy clit begging to be touched and lavished. How your mouth parts against his own to yield soft moans and breathy whispers that encourage him to please, please, please go deeper.
He can’t. Stubbornly thinking he must last long enough to give you some pleasure or it will all be worthless. And so, it’s a repetitive dance: an inch in, and a full pull out. Stop. Another inch, and pull out.
It’s driving him fucking mental.
“Let go,” you say, tearing his head out of the gutter. “Look at me, and let go.”
He can’t exactly decide whether you’re being the devil on his shoulder, or an angel sent from heaven – either way, the aim is to ruin him. Yet it doesn’t matter when he opens his eyes, and you look so beautiful his heart cracks, with a thin layer of sweat on your brow and the sheen of his spit on bitten lips.
You don't have to tell him twice at this point, because the way your hands force his face steady so he keeps his eyes on you does most of the trick. His resolve crumbles at breakneck speed.
He bottoms out, pushing his pelvis flush against yours. Your eyes roll back at the same time, legs going stiff and tight around his hips. He does a tentative roll that causes the coarse hair on his groin to press against your bundle of nerves.
"Fuck," you breathe, your voice cracking at the edges. He echoes it right after you, or at the same time – he's not sure, but in his defense, he's not confident about a single thing right now.
If not how absurdly scorching you are, all wrapped around him.
With that, he hooks one arm around your waist and tucks his other hand behind your head. He holds you close like you might slip away, and he’s sure as hell not taking any chances.
He fucks you slowly, deep thrusts that fill you up all the way, and greedy love bites on your neck. Open-mouthed kisses at your throat, sliding up to your jaw and cheeks, all the way to your lips. Truthfully, he’s both trying to get his senses chock full of you, and keep his mouth shut so no words spoken while in ecstasy escape.
The slap of his hips against yours drowns the taps of the morning drizzle against the windowpane. He’s got your face buried in the crook of his neck, and your pants echo in his ears like a fucking promise that threatens to unravel him.
Each thrust has him fully sheathed inside of you. It fills him with primal pride and fuels his pleasure, because you take him so fucking well he can't help but think he's modeled you in his perfect image. He grunts against you and tugs at your hair out of sheer desperation to hold on – just a little longer.
But you’re swearing in his ear. Breathless fuck’s whispered like a curse and a vow at the same time. You shift your hips to change the angle and that makes him hit even deeper and he swears he hears you whimper in that telltale way he knows well.
He lifts your hips up and hooks your legs over his shoulders.
And he absolutely rams into you.
“Christ I missed you.” He rumbles and his voice cracks while your moans rise in pitch and your nails scratch his back. “Fuckin’ thought of you," Thrust. "Every bleedin’ day.”
He’s rambling now, intoxicated on the feeling of you. His words are slurred and strained and, deep down, there’s a more sober version of Simon Riley cursing at himself for speaking his heart out.
Luckily, it’s drowned by the slap of flesh against flesh and the wet sounds of your cunt milking him dry.
Finally, he thinks, he's using his strength not to wield a heavy M4 or to ram against hostiles, but to fuck you on his cock – knee-deep in the mattress for leverage.
He lets go, like you asked.
He murmurs in your ear (Fuckin’ beautiful), words alternated with heavy pants (An’ all mine) and the animalistic grunts of a man cocooned in bliss (All fuckin’ mine).
His hips stutter and he knows he’s close, but you’re not even nearby, in spite of how he can feel you clench around him, sucking him in. And God, the guilt that fills him almost makes him stop even if he has that sweet, sweet release just around the bend.
But you won’t have that, naturally.
Your fingers thread through his hair, clammy and sticking out weirdly because he’s sweaty and hot. He feels his head being shifted to the side, so you can look into his eyes.
And oh, how can you look at him like that? How is he even deserving of it – fuck you and your relentless ways to crawl under his skin and make him feel like he’s worth a damn, with your eyes glossy and hooded. A thick veil of admiration, fondness, and you.
You, you, you.
Where have you been all his life, with this color in your eyes?
“Come inside.” You plead tenderly, breathless and raspy, as he pounds you into your own bed. Your fingers smooth back rogue strands that are sticking to his forehead. “Please come inside.”
And you crush his mouth to yours in a searing kiss. One that marks his demise. He’s falling hard into your embrace, figuratively and literally, too.
He uses whatever shreds of strength he has left to ram into you as if his life depended on it, punching gasp after heaving gasp out of your beautiful lips into his hungry mouth.
It works like a spell because he feels the familiar pressure building at the base of his cock. Syrupy hot warmth runs down his legs to the tips of his toes. Tingling. Tightening. Burning so good he thinks he's melting within you.
Suddenly, his head spins, and he groans in your parted lips as he ruts into you one last time – until he has you filled to the brim. His eyes slam shut as he spills inside of you – cock pulsating and hot.
His high takes its sweet time, canceling out all background noises and only leaving your sweet breaths to fill in his ears, and the pounding of his heart.
Simon unceremoniously drops on you like dead weight, allowing your legs to return around his waist. His lips slide off yours until his head is tucked in the crook of your neck. He’s absolutely spent, but there isn’t enough fatigue in this world that could keep him away from you. You’re sweaty and he’s worse, but he doesn’t see why, in the haze of his orgasm, he shouldn’t have his lips reach every inch of skin he can.
His kisses are lazy – a stark contrast from the desperation he’s displayed until now.
He feels safe. He feels at home, still buried deep inside of you, feeling the come that couldn’t fit inside ooze out and onto the bedsheets. A bummer to clean, he’ll realize when he’ll get his sanity back.
And he wants to tell you so many things when he feels your hands skimming down his back in a soothing dance. Wants to tell you how you’ve flipped his life, with the ease of tossing a coin – heads and tails. Opposites so striking you should be deemed a witch.
He was in deep fucking shit before you offered your smile. Inching closer and closer to dead-ended alleys and dark, murky thoughts that could only lead to dreadful places.
You gave him something to yearn for, something to miss when he's away, and something to cherish when he's here.
There’s nothing he can do to return the favor but love you in equal measure.
It’s not the first time the word love has come up in his head when his mind was lost in memories of you. And while he’d rather not dwell on it now, while you hold him to your chest as he comes back to his senses, he knows the time will eventually come.
Yet he doesn’t dread it. Not one bit.
Fear pocket sewn shut. Finally.
He lifts his head to look up at you and finds you doing the same – he’s sure he’s thoroughly fucked in the best way imaginable.
“I’ll take care of everything later,” you say, reading his thoughts. “You okay?”
It takes him a while to respond. Mental gymnastics to reawaken the parts of his brain that are still tingling in the afterglow.
“Never better, love.”
“Sleep?” You offer, as if he isn’t still buried inside of you and effectively crushing you under his weight.
You don’t seem to mind, and so he trusts you and doesn’t either.
His eyes are half closed as he slides down to rest his head in the valley of your breasts. "Y' didn't cum," he mumbles, leaving an open mouthed kiss on the fat of your tits.
Your fingers brush through his hair to keep him close, and when your nails scrape at his scalp he feels gooseflesh rise along his arms.
"'S fine," you whisper gently, and he's struck by the earnestness in your tone. But then you quip, "I'll have ya on your knees tomorrow."
And he scoffs. "Makin' it sound like a punishment."
You purse your lips and land a kiss on the crown of his head. "Then stop complaining."
He grunts something he himself can't even discern.
“Y’need to piss first.” He grumbles mindlessly, as if the thought of you standing up annoys him but he knows a UTI is even more aggravating.
You snort. “Charming."
And he responds in kind. "Chivalry's dead anyway."
There's a few seconds of silence only broken by your quiet chuckle. "I’ll wait for you to fall asleep, then ‘m off to the loo. Deal?”
He grunts in agreement, liking the compromise you’re offering. “Deal.”
And his head stays quiet. Sleazy hands and raging voices cease, silenced under the thunder of your heartbeat.
“I missed you.” He thinks he hears you whisper, your voice thick and wet. He closes his eyes with his head on your chest. “’M so happy you’re home.”
────────────
Simon wakes up with shy sunbeams peeking through the blinds and brushing his brow. You must’ve closed them when you woke up, to shield him from the sun.
He blinks idly, momentarily lost in that phase between sleep and waking life, still unsure of where he is. His mouth is pasty, and his eyes struggle against sunlight. The duvet is up to his chin, and it smells of grapefruit-scented softener, and of you. The pillow is a little wet, and he embarrassingly notices that it’s because he’s drooled on it – he smacks his lips once, twice, but his tongue might as well be a dried-up cinderblock.
It has been a long time since he’s slept like this. Since his mind has shut down and left him alone. Since his night has gone smoothly, sleep comatose and dreamless – nightmare-less.
And you’re not there, but that’s okay.
Because he hears your music from the kitchen, kept at a low volume so you won’t wake him up. The clanking of utensils frames the beat, pans and pots being moved around as you hum to yourself following the melody. The smell of eggs, sausages, potatoes, and fresh veggies – a full English. Wafts of that disgusting coffee you drink in the morning intertwined with the softer notes of the tea you’re brewing for him.
You were right: he is home.
And he can’t see your eyes, but that’s okay too.
He guesses he’ll never remember their exact shade, Simon’s fine with it. No better thing than to discover you once more, each time he gets to come home.
They change with you, following the flow of whatever you allow to show, and of what he’s learned to read. They’re the color of that life he’s unwittingly always looked for. That life promising a pocket of peace for himself. Chock full of love and nice things he’s always been deprived of.
A balm to both his ancient and newest wounds.
He has never shared a single story about his past, never told you why his body is like a tattered book whose tale is as horrific as it looks. But you don’t mind, and he doesn’t know why because he’s firmly set on the idea that you must know someone inside out to be sure you care.
And it’s then that it hits him, that you do know him – better than anyone. You know the man he is. You want the man he is now, the man he will be one day – as mental as it sounds to him. His present, and his future. And sure, his past might have made this man you know, but he’s not the same Simon under his father's thumb or the one felled by Roba’s tortures.
Although he’s not sure he can reopen certain sutures without the wounds bleeding all over the floor, he'll try. He’ll clean up, if he must, knowing that you’ll help him have each injury scab over again.
What baffles him is that you’re not saying he has to. You’re saying he can. And this choice you’re giving him is a privilege he’s never had the chance to bear.
He can tell you everything, and you’ll listen. He can keep it to himself, and you’ll stay, accepting that there will be places of him you’ll never venture – and to you, that is fine.
As long as he stays, too.
There are no words he can use to express his gratitude. He can only love you – and it might take him a while to acknowledge that he’s capable, but he already does love you.
You appear at the door as he’s lost in his own head, still tucked under the duvet. Strips of sunlight cross your form, curving around the beautiful shape of you.
“Good morning, you.” You say, with a smile that reminds him of the sun.
Lazily, he offers one of his own to you. It’s lopsided and he thinks not quite as beautiful.
He hopes you forgive him for it: takes practice to be happy, and he’s still learning.
And so, he smiles, and looks at you like you're the most tangible form of joy he's ever witnessed.
His voice is raspy from sleep, and soft from you.
“Mornin’, love.”

Anti-Harem with OP Mage MC pt. 2
Right so... this is longer than i intended and more detailed than intended, i humbly ask for your forgiveness for this reading more like a fanfic one-shot 😭 Theres just so much you can do with this idea and i wanted to do the SF brothers justice, this is less anti-harem centric and more daily life of MC centric so do what you will with it - id love to hear some thoughts on this though, im genuinely considering writing a full blown fic abt this prompt and writing out ideas here helps convince me. Also watch me turn SF Sans into a closeted fangirl in real-time bc i CAN and i WISH TO and i WILL... tee hee 😍 HT for next part maybe? idk hdafejkkl
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Months passed since the new recruit arrived, and you had spent most of those months avoiding the household all together, not that any of them were in any hurry to seek you out. Actually - apart from passing glares and avoidant glances the skeletons had seemed to avoid you all together now, and it didn't take you long to realize that it was the newbies doing. It seems the brothers had already begun to switch all their official mage dealings with the newbie, and you overheard them one night speaking of how nice it'll be once you were gone. It hit you hard, the unbridled JOY that came from those words. The first smile in months had graced your expression, this annoying assignment would be done soon, and you didn't even have to look for a replacement. Of course there was a technical issue there, the recruit was weak, you doubted they could handle the responsibility, but you'd be damned if you had to be reassigned to the brothers again due to their own poor judgement. You set up barrier upon barrier on the furthest borders of the property, weaving old and powerful magic unseen by the untrained eye, as invisible as a spider thread in the deep dark of night.
The day came sooner than anticipated, a sunny morning wrapped in late spring dew when an official courier brought you the sealed reassignment papers, you wasted very little time. There were no goodbyes, nobody to see you off, no see you laters. You just packed your bags and left, deciding to celebrate your release from this mock hell with a feast of your own making.
Days passed easily after that, your new assignment had been similar in that you were still expected to deal with monsterkind. As the official top ranking mage you were expected to oversee the immigration process of the newer species - finding them homes and determining the new borders, on paper that is - in actuality you were there in case it all went to shit. You were there to evaluate how big of a threat these newcomers were, and if all of it went down the drain, expectation fell to you to play both judge and executioner. It was all a terrible diplomatic hassle, endless meetings with diplomats and officials from both sides, meetings with the kings and queens, correspondence between the Archmage and the people on the ground, endless evaluations and negotiations. Where they lived, were they safe, were they able to integrate, political and financial concerns, provisions and temporary shelters were now your everyday cause for headache. It was there you met a pair of somewhat similar faces.
Black and Mutt were skeletons, and that fact had not given you the best first impression - unbecoming of you perhaps, to judge a book by its cover, but months of threats and insults could change even the most unbiased of people. The two were a tad different from the others however, something you found curious if not a bit strange, they were… respectful, if not a bit stiff. Charged as part of the Royal Guard - they worked closely with the rulers of Mtt. Ebbot, so you saw them often escorting officials to and from meetings. You had no reason to approach them, coming from the other side as you were, you technically outranked them quite a bit in the merging hierarchy, but it was one stormy night that made you all grow quite a bit closer in an alarmingly short period of time.
A pack of fiends had snuck their way into one of the lesser guarded shelters outside of Mtt. Ebbott, cunning creatures that fed off of magic. They were hardly a threat alone, even an apprentice mage could take on two by themself - unfortunately due to that fact they tended to gather in numbers, the recorded largest amount was around forty if you remembered right, this however, this was beyond your imagination.
You should have predicted it,it was your miss, your meager miscalculation, of course they would be drawn here, a cave sealed off for centuries, brewing magic for centuries, a breeding ground for anything magic, broken for the first time in centuries. You responded quickly, but by the time you got there it was already chaos, the loud thrum of magic permeated the air and both monsters and humans were rushed off of the scene, the ground was bloodied, a sign that you were already late. You assessed the scene as you rushed past the terrified civilians, you would need to clean it up quickly.
The resisting force had taken damage but they were holding, human and monster guards stationed at the furthest gate fighting off the onslaught of fangs and burning eyes. You took notice of the two skeletons fighting beyond the gate, they worked well together, soldiers of significant skill - you sped past them, an order to pull back immediately flew past your lips and you moved further into the swarm, Black had called after you but you tuned it out, as daunting as the situation seemed it was still below your paygrade.
It was a single spell, a light that lit up the sky, a deafening bang that rattled the ground and the job was done. Your hands stung from the forced speed of the cast, but you remained unscathed as you stood among the scattered ashes, burning flesh permeated the air. You sighed, the ever present mountain of paperwork on your desk was bound to double in size.
It was all damage control after that, rushed orders to your subordinates and rebinding of the barriers, but when you stepped past the gate once again to scout out the surrounding for any remaining threats is when the two skeleton guards approached you, they demanded to go with you- well the shorter one did anyway, it made your brows raise - there weren't many people left in the world that demanded things from you. You looked them both over, amusement in your eyes, and agreed, a challenge to keep up on your tongue.
After that things had slightly shifted, the skeletons greeted you upon meeting, saluted you upon leaving, you began to notice more monsters approach you with official papers or directives, it was an odd thing, mainly because you reflected on how joined it seemed all of a sudden. Before the attack you were mostly responsible for the human mages and soldiers on base, now it seemed your responsibilities grew their own legs and danced around the monsters as well. You saw more of the skeletons, Black in particular seemed curious, even though he never admitted it or outwardly showed it, it was subtle but you noticed, he often joined you for your nightly rounds even when not required to, it was a bit awkward at first, silent patrolling of the grounds, you had nothing to really speak about, and it seemed neither did he. You could not for the life of you figure out why he took such a sudden interest in your company but you also were curious how long he would keep it up, besides, having him accompany you seemed to put the other monsters at ease.It was on one of those rounds when you finally addressed him, he seemed surprised that you had, shoulders stiff, back straight as he looked at you with wide eyes.
“Don't you have more important things to do?” You asked, the question seemed harsh, but its harshness dissipated by the lightness of your tone, echoed by the stone hall in the moonlit night. He had opened his mouth but it was a moment before he responded, seemingly not expecting conversation, he turned away clearing his throat as he set himself to rights.
“OF COURSE NOT, THE SECURITY OF THESE GROUNDS IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE. CONSIDERING THE DISASTER FROM TWO WEEKS AGO ITS MORE EFFICIENT TO DO IT MYSELF.”
You hummed, continuing to walk, listening to the sharp sound of his footfalls a step behind you.
“Would it not be better to split up then?” You asked, your tone still light, your eyes observing him with a knowing glint.
“W-WELL YES, BUT FOUR EYES ARE BETTER THAN ONE, AND IT WILL SAVE TIME IF WE DO SPOT SOMETHING AND NEED A MESSENGER.”
And your guess proved right, his reasoning was weak at best, there was no need for both of you to do rounds together - you could clock a threat miles away even in the pitch black, and you knew for a fact that Black could handle himself well enough, and yet he seemed to want to be in your shadow all the same, you chuckled, but did not voice your thoughts.
Your relationship seemed to steadily improve after that, every now and again you would walk the shelter grounds together, and every now and again you'd exchange conversation albeit a short one, but it beat the awkward silence that was there in the beginning.
Mutt was different, he didn't seem to hold as much intrigue towards you as his brother, he was more so there by default as he seemed to almost always stay by his brother's side, in fact the only time you saw either of them apart was when Black joined you in securing the premises. The taller brother was an enigma, you had not heard him speak once since your assignment, a part of you wondered if he even could. But he didn't seem outwardly volatile either, more so apathetic towards the goings on around him. That opinion switched one busy day where a scheduling error had made the three of you take an overnight shift guarding a group of pompous diplomats. It was a nightmare, twelve straight hours of listening to empty boasts and endless rants about the economy, even you had begun to space out, this was probably worse than those month long scouting missions in Siberia you were forced into back in training.
You noticed the brothers were reaching their limit as well, you worried Black would leave indents in his skull with the force he was gritting his teeth and you were sure Mutt was half asleep as he wobbled on his feet, skull falling every odd minute or so.
It was a couple hours later when you found out you were scheduled for two more babysitting sessions except they were both at the same time, and both had human and monster envoys, Black seemed to mirror your frustration as you checked and rechecked the schedule.
One way or another you had organized a lower ranking mage qualified for escort duty to take your place for one of them, and Black had given his brother the order to attend the same one as you as he himself took the other, rushed words of “IT’LL BE QUICKER IF EACH OF US TAKES ONE.” after which you parted, the vote of confidence made you chuckle.
It was another four hours when you wondered if Mutt had passed away standing on his feet, he hadnt moved in a good hour or two, and skeletons didn't need to breathe so he remained deathly still. He stood behind the officials chair like a statue carved from marble, quite an unsettling sight considering the early hours of the morning and the sharp looming shadows casting off of him. The human envoys seemed to agree with you, considering the nervous glances being cast his way amidst the conversation, and you couldn't help but find the situation amusing. Perhaps it was the lack of sleep or the frustrations of your job but you decided to hurry the meeting along with a mischievous play of magic, lest you join Mutt in his nap. A moving shadow here, the caw of a crow there and what do you know, suddenly all business has been magically taken care of.
You had woken the looming skeleton with the good news and watched as he attempted to stifle a yawn, he had checked his phone and noted that his brother had not been graced with the same fortune as you. You had asked if he would wait - a nod, you offered your office - a moment of silence, but after a while, another nod.
It was another hour at your desk, finishing up some paperwork when you heard gentle snoring on your office couch, a comfy thing that had served you many times for a bed in the days where your job kept you from home, the sound made you blink slowly to the skeleton that occupied it.
Your own exhaustion made you zone out in thought, the sight had an enviable peacefulness to it, it's perhaps why you didn't notice the phone that fell with a quiet thump out of Mutts pocket. It vibrated, once, twice, then for a third time, screen lighting up repeatedly. You rose from your seat, bones popping as you sighed and made your way over, if it was Black then it was probably asking where Mutt was, you should wake him.
Is what you thought anyway, what ended up happening was you being trapped in an iron grip stuck to a dead asleep skeleton. It happened so quickly and out of nowhere that you didn't even have time to process it, the long hours awake didn't help either. One second you're reaching for his shoulder and the next you're halfway on top of said skeleton, limbs wound around limbs. You blanked, what even was this situation, you never took Mutt for a cuddler, his grip is crushing, impressive for someone with no muscle, wait hold on.
You attempted to pull away, but the answering growl and tightening hold let you know that the skeleton didn't agree with that choice of options, subconsciously or not. Waking him up seemed a thing that you should do, but the option flew right out of the door once you thought about how this would all register with him once he woke up, it was embarrassing really. You attempted once again to move off of him but he turned, and dragged you along with him further into the couch. Ah, you had made it worse. Couch cushions pressed in your back and a very large and a very asleep skeleton pressing you into his ribcage, it seems he intended to keep you for a body pillow, now what.
The door slammed open and you blanked once again, this was a nightmare, you prayed it wasn't some disgruntled diplomat come to complain to you about something. You attempted to lift your head to see but the grip on you made your back pop and you groaned, breath knocked out of you.
“MUTT! WHAT IN TORIEL'S NAME ARE YOU DOING GET OFF THIS INSTANT!! NOW YOU DOG! OFF!” The yelling was familiar and for a second you felt relief, and then dread all over again as vertigo hit you. In his panic he had rolled, rolled right off the couch and onto the cold hard ground and had taken you with him. You groaned again as you attempted to get your bearings, lifting your gaze only to be met with bright purple, you blinked and watched as slowly but surely confusion turned into realization and then straight into horror, the brightness of the flush on Mutt’s face was there for half a second before he was gone, disappearing into thin air.
It took you a while to process the whole thing , even longer to reassure Black that it was an accident on his brother's part and that you were partly to blame for the situation as well. By the end of it all it was safe to say that you were exhausted, so you had locked up and went home, it was the morning after that you noticed that the lanky skeletons phone was still innocently laid on your carpet. You snorted, wondering whether or not the silent guard dog would come knocking on your door before late, or if it would be his ever principled brother in his stead.

AM - Chapter 2
No. 1 Party Anthem
Sirius Black x reader Chapter 2/3 Warnings: angst?, smoking, suggestive themes, fwb to lovers word count: 4,294 masterlist
Currently playing: No. 1 Party Anthem by the Arctic Monkeys
Chapters i, ii, iii

Sirius Black was not a somber man. He was known for being loud, rambunctious, insufferable, incorrigible. His voice echoed and his eyes shone when he laughed. He did not wallow nor turn gloomy. He had suffered too much in his life for that. But you had turned his life blue. Your absence left a hole in his heart. It had been three months. Three arduous months of a game of cat and mouse. You avoided him at any cost, clinging off of your boyfriend's arm more often than not. Sirius seemed to always be searching for you.
He felt the rush of adrenaline as he finished his drink in one gulp, it had tasted horribly bitter at the beginning of the night. Now he couldn't taste it at all. He had been on the prowl the whole night. For you, just to catch a peek of you would be enough. To hear your laughter would soothe his growing anxiety and the paranoia that you were out of his life for good. He'd do anything for a glimpse of you. He wondered if you had come and left already. The thought settled in his heart like a pile of rocks.
Sirius could feel the beat of the music in his chest it overpowered the beat of his own heart and the ringing in his ears wouldn't stop. Between the lights on the floor and the sweat that seemed to permeate the walls. He felt like he was searching for his soul, tumbling between people, staring too hard to see if it was you through the darkness. It kept slipping from his fingers. You kept slipping.
He hated this point of getting drunk. He hated the way he knew there was no way back from this threshold. No matter how much water he drank or bread Peter fed him there was no way back. He hated that he still had the itch to get more because he might as well be completely pissed. He'd feel sick regardless. He felt his heart beating in his ears as he finally laid eyes on you. A cigarette hanging from your lips even indoors. You had been smoking a lot more. He had found and monitored the pile of cigarette butts in a corner of the astronomy tower. The only trace of you he could ever find these days.
He wondered if you were happy.
The fun-colored drink in your hand swished and swirled as you laughed, the blond gripping your hip. He could see James across from you, laughing and chatting spiritedly. No doubt recounting some dumb story, Lily shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. They had finally gotten together. Or so he thought. He felt like a terrible friend. He couldn't think straight. He caught James's eye, he hoped he'd come get him.
Sirius felt like his feet were slowly being cemented into the ground. Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder, the only grounding force as the mass of people around him overtook his senses.
"Let's go Padfoot, you need a walk," Remus whispered into his ear, worry seeping through his skin, his demeanor. Sirius felt the beat and the melancholic lyrics that were starting to resonate through the charmed speakers clutched his heart with an iron grip. He shook his head furiously, he couldn't go. Not when he had just found you. Just when he had finally seen the light. It had been like catching a glimpse of a star in the middle of a stormy night.
"Come on Moony-" Sirius moaned out, his eyes barely open, barely registering the scarred boy's figure. "Before she's gone before the moments gone-"
Remus dragged Sirius away regardless. He wasn't going to be making much sense if he spoke to you anyway. Remus felt bad, sometimes he'd hear Sirius mumble your name in his sleep. It was fleeting and slurred but after the third time it happened, his wand illuminating only the page of the book he was reading, Remus knew it was indeed your name.
The Ravenclaw common room entrance was directly connected to a staircase, Sirius's head lulled to the side colliding with Remus's shoulder. Neither of them dared actually to go down the stairs.
"Up, come on pads,” Remus finally got Sirius upright but turned as the door opened once again, the chatter and music from inside spilling into the hall briefly.
"Is he good?" James shut the door behind him,
"I'm doing great Prongs I just need a smoke," Sirius had wandered over to the small stone window, breathing in the fresh night air. He briefly thought of throwing up.
Remus sighed offering Sirius a cigarette, rolling his eyes as James's lips resembled an 'o' in surprise.
"I thought we were all collectively quitting?" James put out his hand, fingertips tingling with excitement. Lily didn't like it. James had quit way before they got together anyway.
One wouldn't kill him. Remus placed it on his palm.
"Where's Wormtail?" Sirius turned to look at the two other men, a, now lit, cigarette hanging from each of their lips.
"Last I saw, chatting up Dorcas Meadowes," James chuckled as he blew out some smoke,
"I reckon he doesn't know she's a wee lesbian" Remus mumbled from between his cigarette
The other two broke out in a roar of laughter, they loved Peter dearly but he could be a bit clueless sometimes.
"Marls is going to kill him," James clutched his stomach as he laughed. Sirius threw his head back as he continued to laugh, his forearms supporting him as they leaned on the window ledge. Tears gathered at the corners of his eyes as he continued to laugh. The world still spun around him. But the sound of his friend’s laughter grounded him. He hadn't felt like this in a while.
As they all calmed down again, snorts and chuckles still bouncing every so often, they continued to take drags of smoke.
"What's been going on with you lately?" James's voice was low, a heavier tone than the one that usually laced his tone. Brows furrowed in concern and his free hand was tucked into the pocket of his jeans. Remus stomped out his cig with his chucks, crossing his arms as he looked in between the two other men. He could feel the air become thick, as Sirius mulled over the question and continued to hang his head out the window, letting the air blow at his short curls. They reached a little under cheekbones now, he was relieved.
Remus felt his knit sweater was going to suffocate him.
James thought of repeating his question.
"Is she happy?" Sirius finally broke the silence, taking the last drag of his cig before he also stomped it out. The ashes and the rocky floor grinding under his heavy boot. He was starting to regret wearing only a black shirt to cover his torso, the short sleeves had been cuffed and he could feel the cold night air pick at the skin of his arms.
"I don't think it's fair for you to question that," James mumbled. He loved Sirius. He did. He was his brother, his closest confidant. He’d been trying to convince him to run away and stay with him. His mother had a room prepared already. He'd do anything for the boy.
But brothers or not. Sirius was a fool. He had been for a while now. He could see the look on Sirius’s face. The look of love.
“Do you think it’s too late-“
“That’s even more unfair,” Remus thought of lighting a second cigarette. He didn’t.
”I need a drink,” Sirius stood upright again, his forearms marked and itched with the stamp of the edge of the window.
Before either Remus or James could deny Sirius his itch, the door to the Ravenclaw common room opened again, this time with Peter stumbling out.
”Did we know Dorcas was a lesbian?”
-
You didn't care that Sirius was ignoring you. You didn't care that he never glanced your way, or that he left when you came. You didn't care that you had seen a girl coming out of their dorm two weeks ago. You didn't care about him. You had a boyfriend now, a boy who cared about you and made you smile and blush. Someone who wanted you for more than just sex. Jacob was sweet, he brought you daisies and taffy. Even if you didn't adore either of those things. He always put his arm around your waist and he had started dragging you to be with his friends more often than not. You suspected he had realized he wasn't exactly popular around yours.
You wondered sometimes, between cigarettes, if you were happy.
You hated smoking.
Jacob hated you smoking too. You pondered the psychology of your actions as you pulled one out of your pocket. He flicked your arm when he saw the stick between your fingers. If only he knew how many packs you had been running through. You ignored his glare, opting for lighting it, even if you were inside. Not like anyone would notice in the overcrowded, obscure Ravenclaw common room. Bastards had the best spot, couldn't hear anything coming from the common room for at least two flights of stairs. Horrendous to go up or down when intoxicated, however.
Lily smiled pleasantly while hanging from James's arm. They were cute, you were delighted they finally got together. It was almost like it was meant to be. You couldn't help but feel your stomach churn when she spoke of the fireworks and butterflies that lived in her chest from his look alone. Lately, life had been feeling like a pile of rocks had settled in your stomach. The dread that came with every touch and every kiss. You wondered if there was something wrong with you. You felt vaguely bored. You pushed down the thought, hoping it wouldn't crawl out again.
You weren't listening much to James, the story he had dug up to entertain his new girlfriend, and your new boyfriend was something you had lived alongside him. No point in tuning in, he had it covered.
You felt Jacob squeeze your hip. Your eyes searched the crowd, you knew what, or well who, you were looking for but you were afraid to even acknowledge it to yourself. The cold glass of your drink made your fingers numb and tingly. You wondered if he had even come tonight.
You laughed as your boyfriend did, as if on cue. You glanced at James, whose eyes flickered to someone in the crowd. You saw his smile falter.
"Y/N how about you finish the story," He finally focused back, handing Lily his drink with a kiss on her head. He left, his body weaving in and out of the crowd, without much of an excuse. You smiled awkwardly at the two people in front of you. You wanted nothing more than to hand Jacob your drink and cig to follow James out. Well, maybe not the cig.
"Flippant man isn't he?" Jacob directed a small smile towards you. You offered a very wobbly one back. You thanked the heavens as Lily left, mumbling something about Marlene having Peter by the scruff of his collar.
Jacob’s face flashed with recognition, his hand going up as to call someone's attention. He grabbed your waist with a simple let's go and dragged you around the crowd like a rag doll. You finished your drink, the shimmery liquid burning at the back of your throat and your glass sat forgotten on some piece of furniture for someone else to find. Your now smushed cigarette sat at the bottom of the glass. You greeted Jacob's friends warmly, a small shy small playing on your lips.
You tried, you truly did but either the alcohol or the knowledge of your friends being outside wouldn't let you focus on the conversation. Jacob's friends weren't bad, just not your type of crowd. You caught a glimpse of three out of the four marauders coming back in. James immediately made a beeline for Lily, a very sweaty Peter under his arm as he noted Marlene's presence. Remus trailed slowly behind the two. Sirius was nowhere in sight.
"I'll be right back, I gotta go to the loo," you knew your lie had reached the blond as he let go of your waist with a small smile. You pushed through the crowd, avoiding your group of friends. The door was all you could focus on. The man who was possibly on the other side. You weren’t sure he was even there. You didn’t know if you were hoping he was. So you went, the cold night air immediately forcing your lungs to expand. The hall smelled like cigarette smoke. The door closed behind you and it was finally silent.
"Don't I know you from somewhere?" Sirius looked at you through his dark lashes, a small smirk on his face.
"I thought we said we'd quit," your mumbled statement was meant as a joke, both of you just trying to break the icy barrier you had built between you. There wasn't a cigarette in sight.
"Your pile on the astronomy tower says otherwise" you winced, "does your little boyfriend know? I reckon he doesn't like the thought of his pretty girl frying her lungs with a cig"
You stared at him silently, your teeth biting at the inside of your cheek. You regretted finishing your drink. You pulled out the box of Player's No. 6 instinctively.
"If you don't put it away, I'm going to throw it out the window," Sirius was drunk, he made sense but he felt like he couldn't look at you straight. He closed his eyes briefly. He sort of felt like was melting into the wall. The pack silently went into your pocket again.
"You know it's not like I'm falling in love," you didn't know why you said that.
"I didn't ask that love," you wondered if you were drunk. You observed Sirius, the way his jaw clenched, his tongue running over his teeth as he went deep in thought, eyes still closed. You trudged closer to him, forearms resting against the windowsill. You wanted to kiss him. You felt sick.
"I hate you," you mumbled as he laughed and shuffled closer. Shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip. You looked out the window, he stared at the door, body leaning against the stone wall.
"The same way you hate cigarettes?" He whispered this, his head turning towards yours. He didn't know what he hoped to hear. You were mere inches apart, his warmth mixing with yours, you wondered if you'd get a shock if you touched him. He fought the urge to press his lips against yours.
"Yes, the same way" You felt the words scratch at your throat. He felt closer than ever, he moved a bit, and you held your breath. His lips pressed against your cheekbone. Right next to a little beauty mark. Soft and light but enough to tie a knot in your throat. You didn't want to cry in front of him again. You felt intoxicated.
"He won't be happy if he sees us," he parted a bit after he whispered this fact, his eyes darting to the closed door. He pressed another kiss to your cheek, this one closer to the corner of your lips. You pushed him playfully with your shoulder. You missed him.
"Do you think he'll break up with me?" you felt as pathetic as when you asked the opposite question three months ago. you frowned. It squeezed Sirius's heart in hope, he didn't answer though. But he didn't have to, you laughed and soon he did too. You laughed like it was the funniest thing in the world. You clutched your stomach and stumbled a bit, laughter spilling from your lips like a river. He hoped to hear you laugh like this forever. He’d never get tired of the sound.
You discovered that Sirius found it equally as hilarious. Tears gathered in his eyes as he laughed, he laughed endlessly, his usual chuckles or boisterous laugh missing. No, this was unfiltered, his sides hurt and he snorted sending the two of you into another fit.
Your body ached in laughter. Your heart ached for him. You wondered if he thought of you.
You thought of him every day.
You swallowed the lump in your throat as you slowly stopped laughing.
"You're no good Sirius Black," he could feel his heart flip as your lips said the syllables of his name "You'll do me no good." He pressed his shoulder into yours, turning to kiss the top of your head. It felt like an apology. Like an I'm sorry love, for every time he pretended not to want you, for every time he took you for granted, for letting it get this far, for not remembering or caring or loving.
You didn't know what he actually meant with it. The door opened again, and the first thing you noticed was the frown on his face. Then the angry red of his cheeks as your boyfriend stomped closer to you. You had never noticed how Sirius was a bit taller.
"I've been looking for you everywhere," his grip on your arm was asphyxiating. You felt like your heart was plummeting down to your stomach.
"I'm sorry I got distracted," your mumble was blue and laced with regret. Sirius considered taking the swing he'd been pondering about for months. He refrained.
"Let's just go" Jacob pulled you along, down the stairs. Not without sending Sirius a glare over his shoulder. He could hear how the boy talked about him the whole way down, shooting question after question, the why were you there with him's, and the can't even take my eyes off of you's not letting you speak. He hoped you'd look back.
You didn't. You couldn't.
You'd cry if you did.
You wondered if you were supposed to feel this way. Like the sheets were the only thing that could save you. You felt like your bed was stuck on you.
Lily was a sea of worry.
"He's outside the common room he won't stop asking Marls where you are and why you aren't coming down," she sat at the side of your bed. It had been about five days since the party. Since you laughed with Sirius. Since you concluded that you wouldn't. No, that you couldn't be happy without him. "You know how she gets, she's already exasperated."
You've been avoiding your boyfriend like the plague and your heartstrings pulled against your will. You felt bad, you thought you could just forget about Sirius, forget his looks, his touches, his kisses. You felt like the worst person on the planet. You had turned your once kind, sweet boyfriend into a jealous mess. He wasn’t the nicest anymore but you couldn’t blame him. Because it was obvious. More than you had thought. How often your thoughts strayed, how often you thought of Sirius. You knew the real reason your friends didn't exactly love him was because he wasn't Sirius. Because every person on the planet except the bastard himself could tell you were in love with Sirius Black.
Sirius didn't want you though, did he?
"Sweetie, what do you want me to tell him?" Lily in all her caring nature brushed her fingers through your hair.
"Just tell him I'm really sick and that I'll send an owl or something Lils," you sighed "Just get rid of him before Marls says something insensitive"
Lily laughed "I'm afraid that's already happened but I'll see what I can do.”
As Lily left you thought about Sirius. About what your non-relationship was before. How you lounged around his bed for hours on weekends. Mostly naked as a baby, you would talk for hours. You’d always have sex of course and you’d hardly spend the night, but you would sneak over earlier rather than later, so 'we get the whole day love'. Sirius wouldn’t let you go until dinner was being served and you whined about hunger.
The way he’d kissed you the first time, slow and steady with his hands cupping the back of your head. you were bordering on tipsy. he said he had been wildly drunk but you knew from Remus he had only really had one or two drinks. This was one of the things that made the uneasiness start to prey on you. The way he would subtly kick you out, asking you if you wanted to go to dinner or leaving with you just for you to end up going different ways at the end of the night. The way he’d only kiss you on your lips every so often. The way it was a badly kept secret but a secret nonetheless.
You wondered what was missing from you. Was it something about the way you looked? or worse your personality? You had agonized over your appearance for months. You asked Lily about the trendy muggle workout videos. She had laughed as if you had said something silly.
At first, you thought why Sirius, it would’ve been anyone really. Insecurity was a wild beast, hard to satiate and even worse when it was something as transactional as sex with seemingly no meaning beyond pleasure. why did you decide to kiss him that night? had he kissed you first? you honestly couldn’t remember anymore.
You stared daggers into the bracelet on your wrist. what had he given your other friends? you wondered about the price as if it would help the urge to feel wanted.
You missed Sirius Black because you were in love with him. Because he was one of your closest friends. You missed his stupid smirks and teases. The way he used to tuck a stray hair behind your ear and kiss the corner of your mouth. You missed sitting next to him at breakfast with his hand always touching your thigh in some way and the way he always saved you your favorite foods. Sneaking into the kitchens because you had missed dinner. He always refused to let you leave his bed until he decided it was enough.
But his body betrayed him until his eyes were droopy with sleep and he’d have to find some force to get up so you wouldn’t end up falling asleep together.
You missed the way his fingers traced your naked back and the way he’d whisper secrets in French. He always refused to tell you what they meant.
You felt your cheeks dampened and wondered when you had started crying. You were tired of this, you needed everything to stop. Marlene and Lily came bursting into the room, bickering about Marlene’s temper.
“Well he deserved it-“ Marlene grumbled and a small smile formed on your lips.
”Why is that Marls?” your pleasant smile faltered as the two girls looked at each other nervously.
“Well it might be best if you talk to him-“
”Oh sod off Lillian she deserves to know,” Lily scowled at the name as Marlene went on “Your boyfriend's a wanker, he got all hot and flustered and had the balls to get in my face”
You scowled, Jacob didn’t seem like the type. He was sweet and quiet most of the time. You wondered where he had been hiding this temper. You felt the guilt start to bite at your fingertips. Marlene continued,
”He kept talking about how you were probably with Sirius, he kept screaming can you believe it? He was screaming!” Marlene spoke so fast you felt like you couldn’t keep up. “He kept screaming about how you were hiding out in his room, and how you were a- well”
“I think that’s enough Marlene”
“and James well… he came out,” Marlene ignored Lily, but opted for omitting what your very upset boyfriend had rambled on about. Probably for the best, you thought.
”Oh Merlin,”
”He punched him!” You jumped from your bed, eyes wide as Marlene started to giggle but she quickly stopped as you gestured for her to explain. Lily glared at her and Marlene suppressed a smile.
Lily turned to you, “I just think you need to talk to him directly, he’s in the hospital wing”
”Where’s James?” they both looked at each other, worry in their eyes. Marlene fidgeted with her ring.
“Slughorn took him, we’re hoping McGonagall will get involved at least,” Lily chewed on her lip nervously “It might help”
You sighed as you flopped back down to your bed. Everything was falling apart. You felt like you were falling apart. James wouldn't have gotten physical unless it was needed. He was always so relaxed, sure he always had a witty comment on the tip of his tongue, always some smart bullshit to spew. But to get physical? You couldn't help but still be grateful for him. For whatever the reason was.
Your thoughts strayed to Sirius,
You felt your eyes water again, hot with tears. You couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of it all.

Coffee and Crime ⋆✴︎˚。⋆ PART ONE
Pairing ✦ mafia!bucky x reader
Word Count ✦ 1.6K
Warnings ✦ fluff kind of, just mainly a story setup, mention of a "happy ending", overall story has a 18+ content warning, MDNI
A/N ✦ I've missed writing and wanted to get back into it so figured that the best way to do it was by writing a series.
PART TWO »»» Series Masterlist
I will update the series every 1-4 days depending on my schedule
“Matcha Latte for Sadie!”, you called out to the crowd inside the shop.
A woman stepped forward thanking you and taking the paper cup from your hands. As she turned to leave she slipped a five-dollar bill into the pink ceramic bowl that read “TIPS”.
“Thank you!”, you said to her, as you turned back to your station.
Wednesday afternoons were usually less hectic, a reason you enjoyed working them, but before you were about fifteen or more drink orders waiting to be made. The small cafe you worked in was crammed with customers, mainly due to the raging thunderstorm outside.
By now you should have had your (slightly longer than you are supposed to take) lunch break. You could’ve been eating ramen at the shop across the street, reading some more of the new book you just purchased earlier this week. But, here you were, knee deep in orders.
You scrunch your nose up in annoyance, picking up the next ticket and reading the order, four shots of blonde espresso over ice with two pumps of vanilla, two pumps of caramel, two pumps of white chocolate, a splash of soy milk, shaken, poured into a large cup with extra ice.
With pleading eyes you looked towards your coworker, “Can I please switch off the coffee bar for a bit? I feel like I’m about to lose my mind.”
“I was just about to ask you if you would switch to register for me”, Nat giggled, “I am about to lose my mind talking to people.”
You joined the redhead in her laughter, as the two of you swapped places and you handed her the ticket you had been holding. Her smile turned into a frown quickly, reading the order.
“Dude, really?"
You shrugged at her and chuckled as Nat rolled her eyes and started on the drink.
Thankfully the crowd began to dwindle down, until the only customers left in the cafe were a group of teenagers working on a school project.
“I’m going to go take a break, if that’s cool with you?”, Nat asked.
“Yeah go ahead.”
“You know where to find me if you need anything.”, she said, disappearing through the doorway that led to the back room of the cafe.
You took a deep breath, leaning back against the countertop. Through the large archway windows of the shop you saw that the rain had started coming down even harder. The cold October air scattered the leaves that had fallen to the ground and a bright flash of lightning lit up the sky. A heavy roll of thunder followed soon after, cutting through the sound of the soft lo-fi music playing in the store.
Your attention was torn away from the windows when you heard the soft ding of the front door opening. Two men entered the cafe, rain dripping off of them. The blonde one of the pair smiled at you sheepishly as if to say sorry for getting water everywhere.
“Welcome in!”, you called from the counter.
As the two men walked towards you, you looked them up and down. The previously mentioned blonde, was wearing a light grey suit with a lavender button down underneath. A glittering chain sat around his neck, the price of which could probably pay an entire year's worth of your rent.
Your eyes flitted over to his friend. The other man had longer brown hair and scruff that decorated his cheeks. His black dress shirt and slacks clung to his muscles, leaving little to the imagination. Looking down you noticed a gleaming watch on his left wrist and that most of his fingers had a large ring on them.
Glancing back up, your cheeks flushed in embarrassment as you locked eyes with a pair of stormy blue ones. The brunette man had caught you giving him a look over, smirking at your flustered expression.
“Um–I–What can I get for you?”, you stuttered out.
“I’ll take a hot vanilla latte, for Steve, please.”, the blonde man spoke.
“For here or to-go?”
Steve’s eyes glanced at the man next to him.
“For here.”, his friend said.
You finished ringing up Steve, who paid and went to sit down at one of the many tables in the cafe.
“Do you have anything you would recommend?”, the dark-haired man asked.
You thought for a second, “Well it depends, what do you normally go for?”
“Plain black coffee.”
You cringed at his admission. Plain coffee was bitter, gross, and undrinkable in your eyes.
“Not a fan?”, the man in front of you chuckled at your reaction.
“That obvious?”
“Very.”
Laughing, you started asking him questions, trying to narrow down a drink for him. He did like cinnamon and holiday flavors, not super big on anything overly sweet, and preferred his drinks hot not iced.
“Have you ever had a dirty chai?”, you asked.
“A dirty chai? Can’t say I ever have.”
“I think you’ll really like it!”, you beamed, “It’s a chai latte with a shot of espresso.”
“Well I trust you so far…”, he trailed off looking down, eyes searching for your nametag, “Y/N.”
You felt a blush rise on your face again, hearing the handsome stranger saying your name.
“Oh-Yeah can I get a name for your order?”
“Bucky.”, he said, smiling at you.
You finished ringing him up and he moved to join his companion at the table.
“I’ll get started on your drinks, they should be out in just a little bit.”
You grabbed two handmade mugs from under the counter and began brewing your espresso shots. As you worked, you would look towards the men every so often. Not that you noticed, but every time your attention turned back to the drinks, Bucky would glance at you. He kept nodding along to whatever Steve was talking about, before he got a sharp jab to the ribs.
“Steve what the hell man.”, Bucky hissed at his friend.
“Would you quit gawking at the barista and listen to me.”
Bucky rolled his eyes.
“No, Buck I’m serious. This is serious.”, Steve said pointing to his phone screen.
“Okay, okay.”
Against his will, Bucky turned his attention away from you and to the subject on Steve’s phone.
A few minutes later you completed putting the final touches on the drinks, latte art for both of them, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the dirty chai.
“Bucky and Steve, your drinks are ready.”
The brunette man quickly stood and headed for the counter. As he neared, you slid the two cups towards him.
“You’ll have to let me know what you think of it.”, you said to him as he wrapped his fingers around the handles of the mugs.
“Why don’t I just let you know now?”, he brought his drink to his lips, and took a small sip.
You studied his expression hoping that he liked it.
“Damn, that’s really good.”
You smiled, “I’m glad you like it!”
He returned your grin, setting the mugs back down, and reaching into his back pocket, securing his wallet in his hands.
“For such a great suggestion, here’s this for you.”, he removed two hundred dollar bills and placed them into the tip bowl.
Your jaw hit the floor, looking between the two bills and the man.
“Thank you so much!”
“No need to thank me doll.”, he gave you another smile as he turned back around and moved towards Steve.
Shaking your head you snapped yourself out of your dumbstruck daze and reached for the tips. You weren’t going to take any risks of someone running off with either of the large bills and headed into the back to put the tips into the safe.
Nat was sitting at the breakroom table, feet propped up in the chair across from her and some reality TV show was playing on her phone.
“Whatcha watching?”, you asked her.
“Real Housewives of New Jersey. I forgot how good this was.”, she looked towards you, “You want to take your break now?”
“Yes please, I am starving.”
She laughed at you, moving to stand up. You went to the safe, unlocking it and grabbing the bag marked “TIPS”. Quickly you counted the cash in your hands before unzipping the pouch and adding the money into it. You set the bag back into the safe and closed the door.
“How much have we made so far?”, Nat asked.
“Three-hundred and six dollars.”
Her eyes went wide, surprised the number was so high.
“It helps that this really attractive man just gave us two-hundred dollars.”
“He what now? Did you give him a happy ending with his coffee?”
You balked at her statement, “Or I am just so absolutely stunning he just couldn't help but give me his money.”
“Oh shut up will you.”, your friend laughed, tossing a stray rag at you.
You dodge the towel, laughing as you grab your rain jacket off the wall hooks behind you and slide your tote bag over your shoulder. Nat and you both returned to the front of the shop together.
Steve and Bucky were still sitting at their table near the front door. The latter watched as Nat pulled your hood over your head, tightening the strings, giving you some sort of pep talk to encourage your escapade into the downpour outside. As you neared the front door, Bucky stood, beating you to the door handle, and opened it for you.
Pulling your hand back from the knob you shyly thank him.
“See you around Y/N.”, he said.
“See you.”, you say as you tuck your head down and race out into the rain.

Los Angeles, California
I’m not a cheater.
The word that Paige almost spit out haunts her. The looks that her teammates gave her haunt her.
Buried in her hotel bed with a wet towel hanging around her forehead, Azzi shivers despite the fire that has set her body ablaze. It’s nearly noon, yet she still feels sleepy; her body is worn out from the migraine that sinks its claws into her head. Her throat feels raw and her cheeks feel sticky from the dry hotel air clinging to the tears she shed last night. But, Azzi knows she isn’t allowed to feel like this. She knows it’s unfair, but she can’t help herself.
“Azzi?” Cam’s voice is muffled but lighthearted. When she opens her eyes, the blonde stands above her with a look of genuine concern across her face. “I had to bribe the receptionist for a key, but I think I overpaid. She gave me a mint too.” The amusement in Cam’s eyes loosen a shackle around Azzi’s turbulent heart.
“Hi Cam,” she rasps. She opens her mouth again when the two stare blankly at each other. “I’m so sor-”
“She hasn’t been doing great since she heard that you were coming to LA. I put her on alcohol probation because I knew she would do something stupid if she were drunk, and thankfully, that didn’t happen.” Cam shakes her head before plastering on a pitiful look when she inspects the shivering brunette.
“Has she been drinking a lot?” The words escape Azzi’s mouth before her brain fully processes them. The taller blonde standing before her winces but masks it with a feigned, but thoughtful look.
“Um… not really, no.” She stammers, averting her gaze from Azzi. “What happened to you though? Where’s your fiancé?” Her stormy blue eyes scan the room until they rest on her shattered phone. Azzi swallows nervously when Cam crouches next to the debris.“Oh my goodness. Azzi, where is he?” the taller woman breathes while hunched over, inspecting the remaining pieces of her phone.
“I don’t know,” she breathes. “We got into an argument and he…he left.”
“Azzi…”
April 17th, 2020
Arlington, Virginia
Paige has a problem.
She’s slowly sinking into the Fudds’ sofa with one of Azzi’s books in her lap as she “subtly” looks at her best friend, admiring how she moves, how she blinks, and even how her face contorts into a scowl around her brothers as they swarm her while waving their dirty socks in her face. Unfortunately, Paige isn’t very good at stealing glances at her best friend. Her blue eyes catch Azzi’s warm, brown ones that are narrowed at her.
“Stop looking at me like that,” Azzi sighs while plopping down on the other side of the couch. Paige’s heart drops when she sees the distance at which the other girl is sitting: away from her.
“Sorry,” she mutters slowly while returning to the book. She can’t focus though, the constant train of Azzi, Azzi infiltrates her brain. The brunette has been off since their plane ride back from Belarus almost 2 years ago. When she woke up in the morning, a searing pain scorched through her head and throat. Her vision was blurry and all her senses were disoriented. However, the feeling of her left hand latched onto her best friend’s waist underneath her hoodie and her right hand tangled in the mess of her best friend’s soft curls seemed to cure her hangover. She suddenly became aware of Azzi’s head resting on Paige’s chest as she snored softly, sending vibrations up her spine.
Rather than reveling in the comforting and warm feeling provided by the other body, she detached herself in a hurry as a familiar feeling of panic surged through her veins. One that only existed when the lines of their friendship began to crack. Their conversation at breakfast and on the plane was extraordinarily uncomfortable, and the tension was palpable; it felt heavy on Paige’s shoulders when they stiffly and very hesitantly hugged goodbye after landing in Minnesota.
It was a silent and mutual agreement to ignore the “incident” and continue with their friendship even though the strict lines of their friendship were now permanently impaired. The once-familiar norms of their friendship and well-established boundaries were now blurred. Neither of them wanted to admit it though, so they pretended. They pretended everything was alright. By the time the State Fair rolled around that year, they found a sense of near normalcy. Near. Normalcy. To say that Paige wasn’t hurt by it was an understatement, but Azzi had to pretend. If she didn’t pretend, everything would crumble.
After wishing Azzi’s family good night, the two start their unbearably slow trek to Azzi’s room. There was discord between the two girls; it became excess weight that the girls dragged along, making the usually quick journey feel strenuous and even longer than normally perceived. As she plops down on her side of the pillow barrier that had been put in place since Paige arrived in Virginia, Azzi grabs the TV remote and jams a few buttons until Frozen appears on the screen.
“Do you ever get tired of this movie? Like damn, Elsa making a castle of ice to seclude herself from everything else seems kinda emo.” Paige’s snide comment earns a punch from her best friend on the other side of the pillow wall.
“Shut up, Paige. You’ve just never been able to put yourself in Anna’s shoes,” Azzi retorts. Paige doesn’t miss the soft chords of her laughter hidden amongst the playful banter. “Isn’t it symbolic how she goes from one love to another?”
“Bro, this shit-” Her words are cut off when Azzi sticks a finger in her face. Groaning, she slumps into her pillow and closes her eyes. After a few minutes, the obnoxiously loud music is abruptly cut off. Paige’s eyes fly open as she sits up before meeting Azzi’s eyes. Her dark eyes glow in the dark and she sees every little detail of her brown irises and dilated pupils.
“I got bored.” She states before whipping out her phone.
“You never get bored of Frozen.”
“Well, I guess you kind of got to me.”
“Az, what’s wrong? Talk to me, c’mon. You’ve been off this whole time that I’ve been here.”
Azzi sighs and puts her phone down against her chest. “I don’t know. Good night, Paige. I’m gonna sleep.” Instead of a verbal response, she is smothered under a cushioned weight. “Ow, what the f-”
“Azzi. What’s. Wrong?” Paige’s face is contorted in a scowl but her voice is soft and reassuring. The brunette picks at her fingers, refusing to meet her best friend’s gaze.
“Nothing’s wrong.” She turns so that her back faces Paige. The air weighs down on them, heavy from the exasperated breaths that have escaped the mouths of the two girls. Paige chews on her lip as she watches the other girl scroll through a myriad of Instagram stories when she sees a particularly provocative story that makes her blood boil: a close-friends story with a picture of Azzi and a guy sitting at a cafe together with the caption “sniped.”
“Is this about the night in Belarus?” Azzi’s blood runs cold and she brings her phone to her chest before turning to Paige. She closes her eyes before letting out a silent groan. “We can’t ignore it forever. It’s causing a rift between us, and we’re gonna have to address it at one point.”
“That night was a fucking mistake.” Paige flinches and whips her head in the other direction, away from Azzi. She isn’t sure if it’s the blonde’s relentless jabs for information or her frustration that still lingers that prompts the harshness in her tone.
“Az, I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I woke up hungover with you in my arms. Bonus, I guess.” When Azzi doesn’t laugh at Paige’s sarcastic quip, she sighs but continues. “Believe me, I was confused too. I guess we don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, but since then, you’ve been so fucking distant,” Paige clenches her jaw in frustration. When she receives silence as an answer, she slumps into her pillow and stares at the barrier.
“You know, I went on a date the other day.” Azzi’s words break the uncomfortable silence. The blonde gapes at her before laughing awkwardly. However, the air from her lungs is sucked out of her body and she feels a force that doesn’t break through her skin or bones but shatters her heart.
“That’s cool.” Her tone is dry even though her heart is hammering against her ribcage. “Um… how’d it go?” Her tone is dry, but she still asks. Because Azzi is her best friend, and that’s what best friends do, right?
“It was… fine. I haven’t talked to him since, though. I guess we didn’t hit it off, you know? Not like he was my type anyway.” Paige nods, averting her gaze to hide her relief. “Are you jealous?” Azzi teases, smirking shyly at the flustered blonde. “You don’t have to be. He was awkward and we didn’t have a good time. I would rather have spent the time with you.”
“Oh,” Paige murmurs while chewing on her upper lip, only half listening to Azzi. “I would’ve rather spent the time with you too. The date sounded boring.” The room becomes eerily silent and both of them begin to feel the weight of the tension on their shoulders.
“It’s just gonna be weird when you go to college.” Azzi finally mutters, burying her face into her pillow and releasing a heavy sigh.
“We’ll still FaceTime every night, it’ll even be easier because we’ll be in the same time zone.”
“You’ll have rigorous practices because you’re a student-athlete, Paige. You also have homework and I’m sure the college workload is a lot heavier than high school.” The blonde swallows and runs her hands through her messy hair. She hadn’t thought about that.
“Well…we can make it work, I mean, we always have,” she sputters, looking everywhere but at Azzi. “I won’t forget about you, I promise. You’re still my best friend, and you’ll always be.” Her voice grows quiet and she picks at her fingers. Azzi doesn’t miss the way Paige’s eyes seem a little too turbulent, even under the dim light provided by the glow of their phones.
Instead of acknowledging their feelings, she raises an eyebrow, leaning closer. “Sure. You won’t forget me, right? I swear that after we saw each other in that one AAU tournament you ghosted me for 3 weeks.”
Paige groans, “That was one time. I was busy!”
“Right,” Azzi says, smirking. “Busy becoming an Instagram celebrity with 12 followers. Big league stuff.”
The corners of Paige’s mouth twitch as she remembers her Instagram posts that were specifically tailored for Azzi. “Thirteen now, thank you. And one of them might be a bot, but still, commitment.”
“Thirteen? Wow! That’s a whole basketball roster,” Azzi giggles, prodding at Paige’s ribcage. The blonde squirms away, swatting at Azzi’s hand with a yelp before she retaliates by darting at her toned stomach. “Hey, that’s not fair,” Azzi exclaims with a shaky voice before grabbing Paige’s wrists and flipping her over. Their tickle fight comes to an abrupt stop and Azzi swallows thickly. Oh.
Suddenly, Paige is very mindful of Azzi’s hot breath that contrasts with the cool air that surrounds them. Each breath makes the skin on her neck prickle with anticipation, but she reluctantly pulls her body away. Instead, she reaches for Azzi’s cheek and caresses the soft skin, sending shivers down both of their bodies.
“I’ll always be there for you, I promise. It’ll be us against the world, you know what I mean? Paige and Azzi, together.” Her voice is soft and wistful, yet her blue eyes sparkle with determination.
“Together,” Azzi breathes as she buries her head into the older girl’s neck, wrapping her arms around her waist and taking in her rosy scent. Paige’s hands find their way through her curls and everything feels perfect.
“I’ll miss you. A lot.”

Los Angeles, California
401. 403.
“That fucking motherfucker,” Paige snarls under her breath while sprinting down the hotel hallway. The pills in the nearly empty bottle of Ibuprofen rattle against the plastic that threatens to explode under Paige’s grip.
“Room 435. If y’all end up fucking, I don’t wanna hear about it.”
“Fuck you too, Cam.” 405. 407. 409. Paige nearly slams her knee into the sharp corner.
411. 413. 415. 417. 419.
“I’ll always be there for you, I promise.” The words she said 8 years ago just before their unspoken feelings unraveled themselves like a ribbon awaiting a very eager child on the morning of Christmas Day replay in her mind.
421. 423. 425. 427. Every step adds pressure onto her raging hangover headache. She’s almost there. Almost.
429, 431, 433. How long is this fucking hallway?
435. Paige stops and hesitates before extending a shaky hand to scan the keycard and open the door.
April 6th, 2025
Tampa Bay, Florida
A collective and electric feeling of euphoria lightens the air of the gym as the UConn Women’s Basketball team celebrates their hard-fought win against a 1-seed team in the Final Four. Paige weaves her way between her teammates, giving an occasional hug here and there until her eyes land on her. A pair of warm, brown doe eyes stare back at her. Azzi stands in front of her with a wide grin carved across her face. The blonde lets a contented sigh leave her lips and grins, preparing to jump into her best friend’s arms…
October 20th, 2028
Los Angeles, California
In the middle of the room on a king-sized bed lies a familiar figure in her bomber jacket buried under the thick comforter. Her eyes are red and a damp towelette clings onto her forehead.
“Cam?” An uneasy voice rasps. When the figure lifts herself off the mattress, she freezes. “Paige,” she says cooly, but there’s a hint of wistfulness. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh, sorry. I’ll leave,” Paige manages to stutter out as she sinks her teeth into her bottom lip, turning away and heading toward the door. “I’ll leave this for you here,” she mutters as she puts the pill bottle on the bathroom counter. “Feel better soon.”
A muffed, yet broken sob escapes Azzi’s mouth. “Stay, please. I don’t have anyone.”
That’s all it takes for Paige to open the doors to her heart again. She cautiously walks over while refusing to meet the pair of warm brown eyes that wander over her body. The two sit in silence before it’s broken by another strangled breath that comes out of the brunette. “Shit, Az…zi,” Paige begins to panic, staring at the other woman who has broken into a frenzy of sobs. Reflexively, her hand extends, but it stops, just before reaching her face.
“I don’t get why you’re here,” Azzi chokes out between gasps of air.
“I…I made a promise.” Paige replies curtly. Her fingers move on their own accord as they begin to caress the tears away. Inside of her head, everything is ringing, telling her that this is wrong. But Paige decides to ignore it and she hopes that this time will be different from every other time. “I’ll always be here for you. Cam told me you weren’t doing great so I came over with Ibuprofen. Paige looks around the room nervously. The alarm bells in her head have been going off for too long. “Look, I think I should go, but it was nice to-”
To her shock, Azzi cusps her cheeks and pulls her in for a searing kiss. There’s hunger in it as they move their mouths in tandem, neither of them pulling away. Azzi lets her tongue slip as Paige lets her hands move down her torso until they reach her waist. Her fingertips dance along the smooth ridges of her skin where they etch the words “I love you.” She grips firmly, pulling the brunette off the bed and pressing her flush against her own body. “Fuck,” the younger woman moans against Paige’s lips, sending a shiver through the older woman’s body. Azzi starts to tangle her hands through Paige’s hair until-

…Until her best friend is whisked away by a mysterious man with olive skin and brown curls. Paige’s heart plummets into her stomach when his firm hand grasps Azzi’s waist. She turns away, throws herself into KK’s eager arms, and plasters a smile onto her face.
Because it’s okay, and Paige will be okay.
We’re not exclusive.
October 20th, 2028
Los Angeles, California
The room is dark and empty except for the sound of familiar, anguished coughs. The pungent scent of weed smoke fills the air and Azzi stifles a gag. She lets her eyes flutter open. When she does, she catches a glimpse of shimmering blonde hair. It makes her heart beat erratically. It’s been 3 years. 3 years of separation from each other, yet she knows it’s Paige Bueckers.
“Who the fuck are you?” The blonde whips around, startled by an unfamiliar harsh voice.
As an olive-skinned man slides through the door of the hotel room, Paige is harshly reminded of the diamond ring that sits on her Azzi’s ring finger. “Charles.” Paige extends a hand to the man. His bloodshot eyes flicker down to her hand, devoid of any jewelry, before they meet Paige’s again. After a heartbeat, their hands clasp firmly in a brief handshake–his grip firm, too firm. Her pulse quickens, yet she refuses to flinch and meets his gaze with equal intensity.
“Paige. Hi.”
Behind him, Paige notices three things. First, the putrid stench of weed hits her in waves. Second, she sees a pile of a white, powdery substance on the bathroom counter. Third, she sees a flushed Azzi, who lies alone in an otherwise untouched bed. The sight of Azzi in a vulnerable position sends
Charles studies her with curiosity and a very noticeable sniffle. “Do you… need anything? Why are you here?”
Every nerve in her body begs her to stay and push the lame excuse of a man out of the way. Most of all, the only thing she wants to do is cradle the younger woman in her arms and tell her that everything will be okay. But Paige sighs and hands Charles the pill bottle before turning away. “No, Cam told me to drop this off. I’ll be heading out, but take care.” She feels a pair of brown doe eyes engraving themselves onto the back of her head, but she can’t. She walks away.
Paige Bueckers, you’re such an idiot.
***
Three days later, Paige and the rest of her teammates are huddled around a secluded table at a local bar. It’s in a secluded part of the city, giving the team privacy despite the energy in the air. Rickea Jackson had organized the meet-up impulsively after hearing about Azzi’s plans to return to New York for the next two weeks in preparation to officially move to Los Angeles.
The team is decently buzzed, having ordered 2 rounds of shots already. They’re ready to let loose tonight; most people had plans to visit their families in the upcoming weeks.
As for Paige, it’s evident that she has consumed several drinks already. She needs an escape from the labyrinth of her thoughts that trap and corner her. She’s spiraling, and she doesn’t have the energy to fight against it. Cam, Rickea, and even Dearica insisted that Paige should stay sober tonight, but Paige was drowning. She was adamant about drinking after the events that occurred earlier in the week. Cam and Dearica did their best to distract her, taking her to lifts, pickup games, and even shopping after her birthday. And while it worked beautifully for a few days, the effects of the distraction were completely worn off by tonight.
Paige sits in a secluded corner of the bar, trying to separate herself from the rest of her team. The sight of Azzi sitting across from her amplifies Paige’s heightened anxiety. Her eyes are trained on Azura Stevens, who is animatedly telling her about the children she worked with the other day while nursing a drink at the same time. Although partially disengaged, Azzi stays polite and friendly. Even if she doesn’t want to admit it, a small part of Paige’s heart flutters at the sight of Azzi assimilating well with the Sparks.
“Paige, were you even listening to me?” Next to her, an exasperated Cam stands up and walks up to the shorter woman. Her hand rubs soothing circles on Paige’s back; a simple gesture that causes her waterline to prickle and prompts tears to form. Azzi’s eyes flicker over to Paige, noticing the dark circles around her eyes. Her blue irises have lost their luster, and her shoulders are slumped forward. The blonde glances at Azzi and offers a weak nod of acknowledgment. The friendly act sends static electricity through her body.
She doesn’t know how their relationship, or the remnants of it, got to the point where even the simplest friendly gesture seldomly happens. Azzi tries to ignore the heavy pit of if only things were different that knots itself into her stomach. But she fails and it simmers with the turbulent sea of her emotions.
“Yo, Az!” Odyssey Sim’s booming voice catches Azzi off guard and causes her to flinch. A flicker of concern flashes over Paige’s face but it is quickly masked with a guarded scowl. It’s an emotion only Azzi can discern; the two women spent years carving themselves into each other’s skin, etching marks of unspoken promises in every crevice. They were each other’s mosaics; they spent years meticulously putting every intricate piece together. Azzi learned the meaning behind the faintest, yet most intentional quivers of Paige’s muscles from their years together.
But now, everything about Paige seems foreign.
If Odyssey and Paige notice how Azzi flinches at the loud voice, they ignore it. At least, Paige does. “Az, come join us,” Odyssey’s voice is softer, with tones of empathy laced under each syllable. “Truth or drink, team tradition.” Reluctantly, she hoists herself from her seat to walk over to Odyssey and the flock of basketball players passing a bottle of Devil’s Spring around.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” Azzi mutters to Azura who laughs and ruffles her hair playfully. “Azura, I can’t play truth or drink. We’re adults, not carefree college students,” she glances at Paige who is animatedly arguing with Odyssey about getting a virgin shot.
“Odyssey, that’s not fair. I’on even drink that much anymore,” Paige whines, throwing her hands over her head. Odyssey frowns and pours the blonde a shot of vodka, not wanting to argue with her. Paige grins triumphantly and Cam rolls her eyes from across the table.
Azura snickers and turns to Azzi. “You’ll be fine kiddo. Team tradition.”
Azzi groans, letting her head drop into her hands. She did not want to share too much information with her teammates, and she did not want to be completely shitfaced in front of her new teammates. After all, that’s more Paige’s fashion than hers, but not wanting to fight with her teammates, she allows Azura to pour her a shot.
Or two.
Or three.
Paige watches her, amused by the uncertainty painted across her face as she warily inspects the three nearly overflowing shot glasses. Azzi glances up at her, an unreadable expression flashing across her face before she turns away, her jaw tightening. Paige knows it’s unfair, but she flinches at the hostility swarming the warm brown eyes she’s grown to know and love.
***
The bar buzzes with a faint hum of music and laughter, the kind that borders being too loud but also keeping everyone grounded in the moment. The occasional boisterous cheers after a teammate opts to throw a drink back instead of answering personal questions about their sex lives that emanate from the table earn occasional glares from bystanders.
“Alright, alright. We gotta save some questions for our princess,” Odyssey announces, cutting through the chatter as she leans forward across the table, flipping through a messy notebook full of questions. “Fudd, you’re up.”
Azzi swallows, feeling the intense gazes of all of her teammates scouring her body as if their stares could rip all her secrets apart. She stiffens when a dark gleam enters Odyssey’s gaze as she scribbles something on a slip of paper and hands it to her. When she opens the note, she stiffens, a cold bead of sweat dribbling down her neck.
“Have you ever ruined someone else’s relationship?” Azzi reads aloud, her voice hesitant. The table erupts with laughter and a bunch of “oohs” and “ahhs.” From across the table, Paige pretends to seem unfazed but her subtle nail-biting reveals her uneasy demeanor, but there’s a hint of a silent challenge that enters her eyes.
“Damn, Sims. You really went for the throat for our little newbie,” Cam chuckles, earning a glare from Azzi. Azura leans back in her seat, sipping from her drink while giving Azzi an encouraging nod.
“Team tradition,” Odyssey grins unapologetically while twirling the ballpoint pen in between her fingers. “Gotta make it memorable for our first-timer, right?”
Azzi flips her off before glancing at the paper slip again, debating whether she should throw the shot of vodka back that sits next to her. The weight of the question settles over her like a heavy cloak. It’s not an easy one to avoid–if she drinks, her teammates will know that she’s hiding something from them. However, if she answers, she knows she will regret it tonight. Before she can let herself decide, she opens her mouth, and a single syllable rolls off her tongue.
“Yeah.” Paige’s eyebrows shoot up before furrowing as she leans forward ever so slightly. The table falls silent for a moment, a silence louder than the music and laughter in the bar. The weight of the curiosity of her teammates settles down on her, drowning and suffocating her. Cam and Paige share a knowing look with each other and cough awkwardly.
“Well… do you regret it?” Odyssey asks, her gaze flickering knowingly between Paige and Azzi. Azzi’s fingers tighten around the shot glass, her knuckles whitening. Paige savors the way the muscles in her fingers flex for a split second before swallowing and glancing at Azzi expectantly.
“It’s complicated…” she finally mutters, desperately looking around at her teammates. Paige scoffs silently, turning away to sip from her drink. When Azzi risks a glance at Paige, guilt pools in her stomach as she notices the hurt and anger that flickers in her eyes. The tension between them is palpable, their unspoken history hanging between them like a storm cloud.
Eventually, when it’s Paige's turn, she leans back in her chair, basking in the attention of her teammates. “Guess it’s my turn,” she mutters.
“Alright, superstar,” Odyssey mocks while sticking her tongue out at the blonde. She scribbles down a question and slides it across the table. Paige picks it up, silently inspecting it before letting out a dry laugh.
“What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made?” she reads aloud, her voice tinged with irony. The table falls into an uncomfortable silence again. Paige doesn’t hesitate and picks up her shot glass and downs the vodka in one smooth motion. Azzi traces a loose droplet that dribbles down her neck before clinging to her toned collarbone exposed by the simple tank top that frames Paige’s tall figure. The tightness in her chest grows. She knows Paige’s avoidance isn’t about the question, but more about her. The blonde slams the shot glass on the table and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, her eyes fixed on Azzi.
“Guess you’ll never know,” Paige says with a hollow smile, her voice piercing Azzi’s skin like daggers. The game continues, but the once-exuberant laughter begins to settle down. The tension between the two basketball players lingers and the unspoken words and old wounds simmer beneath the surface. She knows the night is far from over, but she’d rather be anywhere other than her hotel room.
***
As her teammates began to leave their seats and move to the dance floor, Azzi and Paige were involuntarily sitting next to each other. The distance between them was only several feet, but it felt like miles of separation with their unspoken past. Surprisingly, a soft and familiar voice addresses her.
“I’m sorry ‘bout the other night,” Paige murmurs hesitantly, staring at her feet. The knot in Azzi’s chest is tightened and she feels suffocated by Paige’s words, soft but genuine. The once-vibrant atmosphere of the bar feels muted, with the steady bass of the music fading into the background. Azzi doesn’t respond immediately, her fingers curling around the rim of her shot glass as if it could anchor her. The apology hangs between them, fragile yet heavy, and Azzi can only hear the erratic drumming of her own heart.
“What are you sorry for, Paige?” her voice is quiet but laced with sharpness. Her eyes drift to the pair of blue eyes, once so lively and full of a sparkle that has dulled out and left an almost deserted shell.
Paige flinches at her tone, but she presses on, her voice soft and cautious. “For, well, everything,” she mutters under her breath, a lonely tear sliding down her smooth cheek. Azzi instinctively reaches over to caress the tear off of her face. At first, Paige flinches at the feeling of her warm hand but leans into her touch. The blonde finally lifts her gaze, meeting the brunette’s. The expression in her eyes–equal parts regret and vulnerability–knocks the wind out of Azzi. It was once the expression that was used to unravel the thread that tied Azzi’s defenses to her heart together, but it’s now the one that feels like a knife twisting in an old wound.
The silence stretches between them, thick and suffocating as Azzi retracts her hand, her fingers tingling with the familiar warmth of Paige’s skin. She hadn’t meant for her defenses to slip, but the sight of Paige’s tear stirred something she thought she’d buried.
“Azzi?”
“Yeah, Paige?”
“Does he treat you well?” Azzi’s eyes widen and her body stiffens before she can nurse her expressions into a feigned happiness. Paige doesn’t miss the way her body reacts and her gaze softens with a knowing expression. The question is simple with no ill intention, but Paige’s gentle gaze stays locked to hers.
“Of course, he does,” her voice too light, too practiced. Paige’s eyebrows raise slightly in suspicion, but she doesn’t say anything.
Paige tilts her head slightly, her lips pressing into a thin line. “Good to you,” she repeats softly, almost as if she’s testing the words. There’s no accusation, only quiet observation, but it feels like she’s shining a spotlight on all of Azzi’s cracks.
Azzi shifts in her seat. “Why do you care, Paige?” she finally asks, her voice harsher than intended. She meets Paige’s eyes, and the question lingers in the space between them; jagged, heavy, and raw.
Paige doesn’t flinch and instead holds Azzi’s gaze, her blue eyes shimmering with raw emotion that she doesn’t bother to hide. “Because I care about you,” she admits, her voice barely above a whisper. “And, I know you, Az. I know when you’re lying.” Azzi feels her throat tighten, and she swallows hard. The urge to protect herself flares up, but she forces it down. She stares at the amber liquid in her glass instead as if it holds the answers that she doesn’t want to face.
When she lifts her head up, Paige leans in closer, bridging the distance between them. “You deserve better. You deserve to be happy.” Azzi’s chest aches as she opens her mouth, but no words come out.
Just then, the bell of the bar door rings aggressively. All eyes in the bar turn to the olive-skinned man with unruly hair and red eyes standing in the doorway.
“Azzi, where are you?” Charles slurs while scanning the area like a predator hunting for its prey. Next to Paige, Azzi’s breathing slows and her body goes rigid. She glances at Paige, panic in her eyes. “Azzi…” Before he can continue, Paige steps firmly between them. “She doesn’t want to talk to you right now,” Paige says sharply, her tone slicing through the tense air. Charles lets out a dry and humorless laugh, his lips curling into a sinister sneer. “And who the hell are you to tell me that? Her ex? Thought you’d be out of the picture by now.” When Paige’s jaw tightens, he knows he’s struck a nerve. He moves closer to her, jabbing a shaky finger into her chest. “She never fucking cared about you. Drop it.”
Azzi sucks in a sharp breath and sinks her teeth into her upper lip as she closes her eyes. Fuck, she really didn’t want this. Paige’s jaw tightened and her hands clenched into fists by her sides. She knows she’s strong enough to take him on. “I’m someone who actually gives a damn about your fucking fiancée,” she sneers.
Charles chuckles mockingly, staggering forward until his booze-heavy breath fanned over Paige’s face. “You don’t know anything about us.”
“I know enough,” Paige snapped. Azzi’s head swam as she watched the confrontation unfold, her body frozen between the two people pulling her in opposite directions. Charles glances at the brunette, scowling. “Why don’t you back off, princess? This is gonna get messy real fast.”
Before Azzi could respond, a sickening crunch split the thick air between Charles and Paige. Startled, Azzi sits up and lets out a shriek. A silhouette of olive skin and blood stumbles and falls backward. Paige stands at the door, unscathed. Relief courses through Azzi’s veins until she notices the tears streaking down the blonde’s cheeks and her uneasy breathing.
“Agh, fuck!” Charles screams, grabbing his nose. “Fuck, you’re a fucking maniac!”
Azzi doesn’t know what’s going on. She’s suddenly hit by the warm, humid air of the Los Angeles night as she’s being dragged by Paige’s cool, but secure grip on her wrist. The noise of the bar fades into a distant hum, and she’s only half aware of the world around her as she’s pulled into the quiet of the night.
Her feet stumble to keep up with Paige’s determined stride, her brain still trying to process the whirlwind of emotions. The feeling of Paige’s hand around her wrist is grounding, a tether in the uncertainty of her future. They don’t stop walking until they reach the car, the cool metal clicking open. Azzi doesn’t protest; she lets herself be guided into the passenger seat where Paige’s familiar rosy scent envelopes her.
Paige doesn’t say anything at first while she slides into the driver’s seat as they ride in an unusual silence. It’s not suffocating, but raw and uncertain. Azzi finally glances at Paige, her shoulders slumped as she grips the wheel so hard that her knuckles are white and bleeding from the encounter in the bar.
“Why are you doing this?” she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
Paige glances at her, her face soft yet unreadable. “I care about you, Az. I won’t let you keep pretending everything is fine.” Azzi doesn’t respond right away as she lets the words settle in her chest. They stir up the guilt that lingers from their last encounter 3 years ago. But she lets herself relax in the quiet of the night as the city lights flicker past.
For the first time since she got to the city, Azzi lets herself breathe.

Ideas For Religious Horror
Religion can bring out the best in people - and the worst. Horror fiction involving religious elements can bring into question our beliefs about morality, the definition of sin, and the modern interpretation of old rules.
Here are some ideas for dark story plots that circles around religions as a theme.
Horror In Holy Books
Use the stories that are handed down in holy texts to inspire the monsters and ghosts in your story.
Retellings of holy texts can also be quite interesting:
Think of Jonah from the Bible. First, there's a terrifying gale and the danger of the ship sinking. Then the sailors toss him overboard into the stormy sea. And finally, he gets swallowed by a whale and survives for three days and nights in the fish's belly...perfect adventure fiction material, I'd say.
Faith verses Fear
When writing about religious heroes, the story gets much more exciting when you insert moments of doubt and fear. The greater the fear and the shakier his faith becomes in the climax, the more triumphant the sucko ending would be.
Religious Historical Horror
If you're writing Historical fiction, you'll find lots of scary religious contexts.
The hero has (modern) attitudes of compassion and faith, but his contemporaries apply religious rules in the gruesome ways of their period.
The religious practices/dogma are discriminatory, which the hero fights against.
The hero is a religious martyr, pushed into the quest by religious leaders.
Unbelievers Meet Scary Gods
Here, the characters explore an old temple or the rubble of a fallen sacred site, asserting that they don't believe in gods.
They inadvertently commit sacrilege - and realize only too late that there's a high price to be paid.
This works well with both real and fictional religions.
Religion as Evil
Instead of presenting the whole religion as evil, focus on the evil specific character commiting crimes in the name of their religion.
It can also be "fake" religion - a greedy person makes up a pseudo-religion to place people under their influence. They would misguide people and use them for their own ends - greed, power, monetary and sexual gratification.
To give depth to your story, let the villain and the hero have the same faith, but interpret it differently. Would the others be able to distinguish the two of them?

You ever sneeze so hard you redesign yourself?

Anywho,
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TIME:
Stormy is no longer a Star Wars character! He’s still called Stormy the *Stormtrooper*— I legitimately don’t think I can call him anything else— but he’s no longer associated with Star Wars whatsoever.

Really, this has been a long time coming. I’ve never really thought of Stormy as a Star Wars OC, y’know?
With everything I want to do with the series and the character, I figured it would make the most sense to divorce him from Star Wars entirely, and let Stormy be Stormy.
Like I said, he’s still going to be called a Stormtrooper, for lore reasons that will be explained at a later date (likely, whenever I release the new version of Book 1!). Just know he’s NOT a Star Wars Stormtrooper anymore.
For now, I figured I’d go ahead and drop his redesign, since this is something I’ve spent a lot of time and effort remaking! Cheers!

Summary: Jet is persistant to reveal that Zuko is from the fire nation. Pushing Zuko to the limit to get his results. The city no longer save for the three of you, but great news might perhaps persuade you to stay just a bit longer. [series]
Zuko felt a heavy pounding in his head. He tried to sit up, hand pressed against his forehead. Slowly his eyes opened, adjusting to the upcoming morning glow. A blurred figure calling something out. Blinking he tried to focus his vision. With a few blinks became you clearer as your voice. - "Zuko." - you called out worriedly. Shaking him by his shoulder awake. - "Y/n." - he said hesitantly as you helped him sit better up against the wall.
He weakly moved his hand up, touching your cheek brief. - "Princess!" - another voice came through. You leaned closer to Zuko, hands laying on his shoulder. - "He knows you're fire nation." - you warned him. Zuko tensed his expression, pushing you a bit aside for him to see. Jet. Jet stood a bit further away with his crew. Zuko wanted to stand as you assisted him. - "Did you take her?" - he needed to know, pointing at Jet. - "I had to tell her the truth!" - Jet replied.
You saw him get worked up, knowing very well how his temper went. You touched his shoulder, looking up at him. Slightly shaking your head. Zuko grunted soft, looking away. Jet pointed his blade at Zuko. - "He's from the fire nation." - he shouted loud, looking around. Some curious people opened their windows. Others who just stepped outside, stopped to stare. - "The fire nation is here." - he called out pointing at Zuko.
Zuko clenched his jaw. You took his hand squeezing it hard to tone his temper. Some people took a curious look at Zuko before shrugging their shoulder and continuing with the start of their day. His crew looked embarrassed around. - "Jet... knock it off." - one of them said tugging at his shirt. Jet shrugged his arm, throwing his grip off. - "No, I'm telling the truth." - he replied desperately. Some villagers stared questionable at Jet.
You turned to look up to Zuko. He met up with your gaze, untensing a bit as no one seemed to believe Jet. - "Jet... just stop." - another of his crew said between clenched teeth. Some people started laughing. - "The fire nation here? Ba Sing Se is too heavily guarded for them to enter." - one of the villiagers laughed out. It frustrated Jet that no one was listening. People started to move away.
Having enough of empty words. Jet felt his head burst with anger. - "I'll show you." - he called out, pointing with his blade firm at Zuko. Zuko moved a step forward as you tried to hold him back. - "I'm not going to fight you." - Zuko let out. Jet groaned loud. With his blade in the ready, he ran up to Zuko. Zuko shoved you aside, jumping back when Jet came slashing his blade down.
It clattered against the ground. Grunting loud he moved his blade up. Swaying it at Zuko. Zuko kept moving and jumping back to avoid being hit. - "Fight me." - Jet called out slashing his blade down. Zuko stumbled back against a cart with cabbages. Some cabbages rolled off the cart onto the streets. - "My cabbages!" - the vendor cried out. Zuko grabbed a cabbage throwing it at Jet. Jet sliced it in two with his blade when it came his way.
Jet came swingingly with his blade at Zuko. Zuko ducked down to avoid getting hit. Having slightly enough of Jet, he kicked him back. Jet stumbling back on his feet. Regaining his balance quick. Zuko threw a punch his way as Jet blocked it. Standing at the side-line, you watched anxiously. Hoping Zuko wouldn't slip his firebending through it and expose him to the earth Kingdom.
Zuko and Jet were fighting or rather Zuko more deflecting his moves. Jet attacking with a blinded rage. Jet got smacked against another cart with spices. Glancing over his shoulder, he collected some spice powder in his hand. Throwing it at Zuko to blind him. Zuko moved his arm over his eyes, turning away. The spices hitting his arm. Lowering his arm he gave Jet a glare.
You noticed more people had come to look. Whisper to each other and point at the fight. Jet's crew had backed away, not wanting to be associated with him. Jet raged like a mad man doing everything in his might to make Zuko firebend. Zuko fought back with only the strenght of his own body. - "You are fire nation!" - Jet called out with anger.
Zuko remained silent, not enganging with his accusations. Jet grunted loud that he wasn't getting Zuko to show his true self. His gaze fell on you on the side-line, watching with fright. - "If you won't show it, she'll make you." - he said. Zuko's eyes widened when Jet threw a dagger your way. Gasping loud you tried to jump away.
The dagger getting caught in your clothing, pinning you against the wall by your waist. Zuko came running over to you, pulling the dagger out. - "Are you alright?" - he asked touching your cheek. From over his shoulder you saw Jet make his way over. Shoving Zuko aside, you called upon water. Sending a flood to sweep him off his feet. Jet got hit, rolling backwards over the street.
Coming to a stop as a group of mysterious men stood behind him. Two of them grabbed him. Jet looked in a panic around as they dragged him off. - "No, he's fire nation. Take him. I'm not mad!" - Jet shouted but no one was listening. You held Zuko by his arm, watching Jet get dragged away. The townspeople seemed to give it little attention or they were too afraid to look.
Zuko took your hand, leading you away. Not caring who had taken Jet for it served him right. You swallowed nervously, following him on foot. - "Zuko..." - you started wanting to speak about it. Zuko remained quiet, simply tugging harder on you to keep up. You didn't like the silent treatment, but couldn't blame him. - "He saw Iroh heat up his tea." - you told him. - "I couldn't get it out of his head." - you went on out of breath.
He remained silent, dragging you back to the sleeping place. - "Zuko!" - you called out wanting to have any reaction out of him. - "I only seem to attract trouble...I'm really sorry. Maybe I should remain behind to not endanger your task any further." - you finished pained with guilt. Zuko suddenly stopped, turned round and pulled you close to him.
"No." - he answered hugging you tight. You embraced him back with a tight grip. Pulling back, he touched you chin to cheer you back up. The small gesture made you smile faintly at him. The two of returned to Iroh. When you entered he sat down with a cup of tea. Quirking his eyebrow up at the sight of you two. Something told you he thought you'd still be sleeping. He gently blew on his tea when Zuko sat down with a heavy sigh.
"It's good to see you bond. Bonding is good." - Iroh said receiving a glare from his nephew. You joined them quietly. Iroh noticed the silent tension wondering if anything happend. Quirking his eyebrow up once more. - "We can't stay." - Zuko cut through the silence, tapping with his fingers on the table, looking away. - "How so?" - Iroh asked.
You turned your gaze down, pressing your hands between the folds of your dress. - "It just isn't save." - he replied not throwing any accusations at his uncle for heating his tea so carelessly. Iroh drank his tea empty. With a deep sigh he got up. - "I'm in need of tea herbs. Anyone want to join me?" - he asked. You didn't return his look. - "I'll think I better stay in." - you responded not in the mood to get back outside.
"I'll stay with her." - Zuko answered after seeing his uncle turn to him. - "You... you don't have to do that." - you told Zuko not wanting it to be forced. He dismissed your words, sending his uncle off. After a moment of silence, you moved a bit closer to Zuko. - "How is your head?" - you questioned. Zuko touched his forehead, already forgotten about the stomp. He shrugged his shoulders not caring much.
You moved even closer to him as Zuko watched you tentive. - "May I?" - you asked moving your hands up. He slowly nodded. You let water flow from your flask. The water surrounded your hand as you leaned closer. Touching his neck as you brought your other hand to his head.
Zuko closed his eyes feeling the sweet sensation from the healing water. He opened his eyes once more, staring with wide eyes at you from how close you sat to him. Making him swallow nervously. Drawing his gaze down to your lips. You lowered your hand, mesmerized by his gaze. Anticipating the moment. Sucking in a breath, he neared his head.
Tilting it a bit to reach your lips. Kissing them tenderly. Zuko deepened the kiss, holding your cheeks. It was blissful as it made you tug at his shirt. Wanting him even closer. Zuko removed his lips from against yours. His gaze drifting shyly away.
You turned your posture more to the centre. - "Where will we go then?" - you asked drawing a circle on the table with your finger. - "I'm not sure yet." - Zuko replied his gaze on your hand. Debating if he should take it. His hand was already going half-way up to you. Pulling the last second away when his uncle barged in. Panting. - "The avatar is here." - he breathed out.

The D scenario was way too sad, author, I'm begging for you to make it up for our sad rockstar cowboy/cowgirl 😭👺
here’s the pt. 1 of this.
the phone call ended with a terrible finality. the sound of D’s voice cutting off mid-sentence felt like a door slamming shut, loud and unmistakable.
you stood in your new york city apartment, one hand still gripping the phone, the other clenched at your side. your heart was racing, every beat a thud of regret, anger, and guilt. the city hummed outside your window, a discordant symphony of car horns and distant chatter, but you barely noticed it. all you could hear was D’s voice echoing in your head, sharp and raw: “i’m here, waiting by the damn phone every night like some—some pathetic—”
you ran a hand through your hair, pulling at the roots as you began pacing back and forth across the narrow strip of space between the kitchenette and the window. the floorboards creaked under your weight, an old building’s way of reminding you it was there, but it couldn’t anchor you.
“what is wrong with me?” you muttered, your voice harsh in the quiet room.
your anger had already started to unravel, leaving only the jagged edges of shame. you replayed the conversation in your head, your own voice rising, defensive and cold. and then D’s, breaking apart in places they hadn’t meant to let you hear.
D wasn’t needy. not really. at least not to you. they were just... D. passionate, fiery, always a little too much and never quite enough, all at the same time. and you—you were a mess in your own way, carrying your ambitions like armor and forgetting, sometimes, to reach out from behind it.
you slumped onto the couch, your elbows on your knees, your head in your hands. this wasn’t who you wanted to be. this wasn’t the kind of partner you wanted to be.
after what felt like hours, you finally sat back, exhaling shakily. the truth was as clear as it was painful: you’d both been wrong. neither of you was handling this well. the distance, the texts, the calls—it was a pressure cooker, and tonight it had finally boiled over.
but you loved D. that thought settled over you like a weight and a balm all at once. you loved them, and love meant showing up, not just when it was convenient, but especially when it wasn’t.
you grabbed your phone, fingers flying over the screen as you pulled up flight options. austin. friday night. it wasn’t exactly cheap, but money wasn’t an issue. you booked the ticket before you could overthink it, the confirmation email lighting up your inbox a second later.
***
the week passed in a haze of classes and half-hearted meals. every time your phone buzzed, your stomach twisted, but the messages were always mundane. updates from classmates, a sale alert from your favorite store. nothing from D.
by the time friday rolled around, you were vibrating with nerves. your luggage was packed and sitting by the door. you made sure your phone was fully charged, and set your alarm two hours earlier than necessary. you checked on your luggage three times before finally locking it and hauling it out of the apartment.
the subway station was crowded, the air thick with the smell of metal and sweat. you stood with one hand on your phone, your other clutching your bag, eyes darting to the mytransit nyc app and the digital displays above to make sure you don’t miss the subway leaving for the airport. five more minutes to go.
and then you saw them.
at first, it didn’t register. just another figure in the sea of commuters near the turnstiles, fumbling with a yellow metrocard at the machine. but then they turned, and your heart stopped.
D.
they looked different here, out-of-place but somehow not. the edges of their leather jacket were fraying, and their doc martens were scuffed, a sharp contrast to the polished shoes and sleek coats of the people bustling around them. but their eyes—those stormy gray eyes you could pick out in a crowd of thousands—were unmistakable.
D saw you at the same moment.
for a second, neither of you moved. the station swirled around you, a blur of noise and movement, but it might as well have been silent.
then, like magnets, you were drawn together. you barely registered your feet moving, barely noticed the way people swerved to avoid you. and then you were there, your arms around D, their arms around you, and it was everything.
the kiss was messy, desperate, and entirely too public. you could feel D’s hands shaking where they gripped your shoulders, could taste the salt of what might have been tears.
when you finally pulled back, your foreheads pressed together, you were both laughing breathlessly.
“w-what are you doing here?” you asked, the words tumbling out between shaky breaths.
D gave a sheepish smile, one hand rubbing at the back of their neck.
“i was coming to see you. i couldn’t—” their voice caught, and they shook their head, trying again. “i couldn’t stand it. i couldn’t stand being apart anymore.”
“i was on my way to the airport,” you said, still holding onto them like they might vanish if you let go. “i booked a flight to austin. i was coming to apologize. to fix this.”
D’s arms tightened around you, their eyes searching yours with an intensity that made your chest ache.
“you don’t need to apologize,” they said, their voice low and rough. “i’m the one who... god, i’ve been a mess without you. i keep overthinking everything, and then i get scared, and then i just—” they broke off, exhaling shakily. “i love you so much, and i’m sorry. for all of it.”
“i love you and i’m sorry too,” you said, reaching up to cup their face. their skin was warm under your palms and the familiar scent of expensive marlboros, leather and cinnamon made your head spin pleasantly. “i should’ve called more. i should’ve—”
“stop,” D interrupted, shaking their head. “we’re both idiots. let’s just agree on that and call it even.”
you laughed, a wet, shaky laugh that felt more like relief than humor. “deal.”
a few people were giving you strange looks as they looked over you two, but you both ignored them. one older woman smiled as she passed, muttering something about young love.
you took D’s hand, threading your fingers through theirs.
“come on,” you said, a grin breaking through the tears. “i can’t wait to show you around the city.”
D huffed a laugh. “don’t know if i’m gonna like it too much,” they said, but their eyes were soft, and their grip on your hand was firm.
“you’ll like it,” you promised. “i’ll make sure of it.”
D glanced at you, their gray eyes soft and full of something that made your chest feel too small.
“maybe,” they said. “but even if i don’t... i’ve already found you here, that alone makes the city tolerable in my book.”

lover, you should've come over (r. zoro x fem! reader)
chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5
chapter one: how to disappear completely
official playlist
masterlist
synopsis: reader and zoro are dating but it's not the same as before- something has changed.
the thousand sunny rocked gently on the waves, the sound of the ocean filling the gaps where laughter and teasing once thrived. the once lively and electric energy between zoro and you had faded into something quieter, heavier.
you sat on the deck, absentmindedly flipping through a book she had read a dozen times. you weren't really reading—your (your eye colour) eyes flickered towards the moss-headed swordsman at the other end of the deck, sharpening his swords like always. he hadn't spoken to you all day.
again.
it wasn't like you both were fighting. no. you both still kissed, still shared the same bed, still sat beside each other during meals. but something was… off. your banter had dulled, your playful arguments had disappeared. it was like they were just… there. existing beside each other instead of with each other.
and you hated it.
you sighed and shut your book.
"okay, spill," nami’s voice interrupted your thoughts as she sat down beside you.
you blinked at the navigator. "spill what?"
"oh, don't give me that," nami scoffed, crossing her arms. "you and zoro look like two ghosts haunting this ship. even luffy noticed, and you know that means something."
you bit your lip, hesitating. "it's just…" you sighed. "i don't know. things don’t feel the same anymore. it’s like he doesn’t look at me the same way."
"you sure?" robin suddenly joined in the conversation. "because from what i've seen, he still looks at you like a lost puppy when you're not looking."
nami nodded to that and you let out a small laugh, but it was hollow. "i just… i don’t know if he loves me the same way he used to."
"talk to him," nami said. "before you drive yourself crazy."
you nodded, but deep down, fear rooted you in place.
on the other side of the ship, zoro was sharpening his swords, pretending he wasn’t listening.
he knew something was wrong. he felt it in the way you hesitated before holding his hand, in the way you avoided his eyes when you laughed.
have you gotten tired of him?
zoro clenched his jaw, his grip tightening on wado ichimonji. the thought made his chest ache.
"oi, marimo," sanji’s voice broke through his thoughts. "what’s with that stormy look? thinking too hard? that’s dangerous for someone like you."
zoro glared at him. "shut it, curly-brow."
sanji smirked but then studied zoro’s face. the cocky grin faltered slightly.
"you know," he said, lighting a cigarette, "if you’re this lost in thought, it’s probably about a certain (your hair colour) bookworm."
zoro stiffened.
sanji scoffed. "tch. Idiot. just talk to her before you screw it up."
zoro growled. "i don’t need your advice."
sanji shrugged. "fine. then keep moping around like a lovesick fool." he turned to walk away, then stopped. "just don’t take too long, marimo. you might regret it."
zoro clicked his tongue, annoyed, but the words stayed with him.
that night, zoro found you sitting at the bow of the ship, staring at the horizon. the moonlight made her your hair glow, but your (your eye colour) eyes looked duller than usual.
"y/n" zoro spoke first, voice gruff but hesitant.
you turned to him, surprised. "yeah?"
zoro took a deep breath, scratching the back of his head. "is there something wrong between us?"
her eyes widened slightly. you hadn't expected him to ask first.
your heart pounded. this was it. this was the moment you had been dreading.
"…yeah," you finally admitted, voice softer than usual. "i think there is."
silence.
you both stared at each other, the weight of your words sinking in.
a/n: i know i don't really write anything other than jjk but i couldn't stop myself from writing this mini series 😭 this is my first time writing something like this idk, this series will probably have less than even 10 chapters lmao :) hope you guys like it!!

Blanket Fort
Vi X Fem!Reader
Ch 3 of The List
Other chapters: Ch 1, Ch 2, Ch 4
Summary: you and Vi build a blanket fort
cw: pure, unadulterated fluff
word count: 1.4k
an: Howdy y'all! I humbly present chapter 3. Hope you enjoy it. Next chapter I'm gonna keep a surprise, but it includes some familiar faces ;) It also might take me a wee bit longer to write, but I’ll try to get it out within the week. And a big thanks again to my beta reader @mythsretriever, check her out, she’s pretty cool. Also, I’ve been requested to start a tag list, so let me know if you want to be added! And finally, if you have any requests for fics or ideas for this one, or just want to chat, I’m all ears! (Please, I want more friends on this app). Men & minors dni
The apartment windows rattled against the heavy rain and rolling thunder raging outside. Lightning lit up the stormy evening sky, casting flashes of light into the apartment. You and Vi were hauled up because of this, but it didn’t matter much to you. You were happy to be home with the love of your life for a night off.
You were in the kitchen making dinner (it was your turn), Vi sat watching you from the kitchen island. You were making soup, one of your specialties, because Vi was feeling a bit under the weather, having been fighting a small cold for the past couple days (more than likely caused by the fact that she had just been naked in a lake on a chilly fall night with you a little less than a week ago). You felt slightly guilty, considering you were the one that had taken her to go skinny dipping, as well as the fact that you had not gotten sick at all. You resolved to make her soup; it was the least you could do.
Vi was still keeping the list close, although she had shared some of her ideas and asked you for some more recently. It was a good thing, too, because you had started to think she was instead just writing a novel.
You were adding the last of the spices to the pot of soup in front of you when Vi asked, “Have you ever made a blanket fort?”
Caught slightly off guard, but recovering quickly you answered, “I have…”
“I know it’s not a very teenager thing to do, but I’ve never made one and I added it to the list a while ago,” she said, eying you hesitantly.
“... so you want to make a blanket fort?” you asked, a small smile creeping onto your lips.
“Ya, and I thought maybe today, since the weath-”
“Sold!” You cut her off.
“Dinner first, of course,” Vi reassured.
You shot her a smile over your shoulder. “Of course.”
You ate at the kitchen table, the soup being accompanied by garlic bread. Vi practically moaned around her fist bite, which made your insides feel fuzzy. You talked about upcoming plans, errands you both needed to run, shows you wanted to watch together; just mundane, domestic things. When you both were done eating, Vi helped you clean up the kitchen, growing more and more antsy by the second. She was practically jumping off the walls by the time you finished wiping the counter down.
“Hmm,” you looked around the kitchen, tapping your chin with your finger, “I feel like I forgot to do something.” Of course, you had forgotten nothing, and instead were prolonging Vi’s anticipation for your own enjoyment. She caught on when you couldn’t keep your sly smile contained.
“You forgot nothing, it’s blanket fort time!” she practically screamed. She grabbed you by the arm, pulling you towards the living room, but eventually stopped, realizing she didn’t actually know what she was doing. She looked around, looking a little hopeless, then turned her eyes on you. “Okay, tell me what we need,” she prompted, her hands open in front of her, ready to grab the first thing you say.
“Well, we’re gonna need blankets, sheets probably, the kitchen chairs, pillows, maybe some books, and the broom, probably.” She stared at you blankly for a second, processing, then leapt into action. Vi ran in the direction of the linen closet, so you went over to the kitchen to collect the chairs.
You were arranging the chairs in front of the couch, two on each side facing away from the space in the middle, when Vi came back with more than an armful of blankets and sheets. It looked as though she had ransacked the entire apartment, taking blankets from anywhere including your bed. You giggled at her overzealousness, and moved quickly to help take some of the blankets she had gathered.
“Looks like you found every blanket and sheet we own,” you said, amused. “That's good, though. We’ll probably need them all.” You set them down in a pile in front of the area you had designated to be the floor of the fort, which was in front of the couch and directly in line with the TV. Vi surveyed the space, nodding, then looked towards you for the next step. “Okay, first we should cover these chairs with sheets to make our walls. And we might need something heavy like books to keep them in place,” you said. It had been quite some time since you built a blanket fort, but it was all starting to come back to you now.
Vi got right to it, pulling one of the sheets from the pile and draping it over each pair of chairs. You went over to the coffee table (which you had earlier pushed against the wall to make enough space for the fort) and grabbed the books that sat atop it. You put a book on each seat, which held the sheets in place and prevented them from slipping. It was all coming together nicely.
Catching on, Vi asked, “Should we put some blankets down on the floor to make it comfy?” you nodded, happy she was starting to get it. Arranging a sheet down first over top of the area rug, you then layed down two comforters and lined the makeshift walls with pillows, making sure the biggest and comfiest went against the foot of the couch. You both added some extra blankets to snuggle up with once you were settled in the fort later. And then it came time for the roof. Working together, you pulled sheets across the chairs, using multiple to make sure there were no gaps and to ensure the fort was dark inside. Adding some finishing touches, like some electric candles and a small camping lantern, as well as a couple more pillows and blankets, the fort was complete. It wasn’t by any means the best blanket fort ever made, but it got the job done, and by the grin on Vi’s face, you'd say it was basically perfect.
“Ready to get in?” you asked Vi, who didn’t even give you an answer before launching herself into the fort. You couldn’t contain your giggle as you followed her in, albeit more calmly. It was a tight fit, but curling yourself up around Vi created some wiggle room. Vi threw a couple blankets across your tangled legs and settled into the pillows, pulling you closer by the waist.
The top of the sheet roof plus the angle you were positioned made for a perfect view of the TV, which was exactly what you had hoped for.
“Want to watch a movie?” you both asked simultaneously, which then made you laugh. So predictable.
“I chose last time, so it’s your turn,” Vi offered.
You thought for a second. “Pride and Prejudice (2005),” you said. Vi had already thumbed through and pulled it up on the screen.
“So predictable,” she whispered, shaking her head as a crooked smile appeared.
You gave her a playful shove in the side. “You know I like the classics. And anyway, Mr. Darcy reminds me of you.”
She scoffed. “How so?”
“Well, he’s proud, loyal, charming in a goofy way, and I find him rather pretty, especially when he smiles. And you share all of those traits,” you said. “But I will say your hands are much hotter than his.”
Vi attempted to play off your words, but a small blush crept across her cheeks. “Alright, let’s just start the movie,” she said, nodding towards the TV.
You kissed Vi’s shoulder, smiling up at her. “This was a great idea.” you said, and then proceeded to sneeze.
“Oh no, I gave you my sickness, didn’t I?” Vi looked at you apologetically. You just shook your head, snuggling back into her and turning your attention to the movie. It didn’t matter to you if Vi got you sick. You’d happily get her germs if it meant getting to also snuggle up with her to watch a movie while it stormed outside.
Eventually, though, and rather predictably, the combination of the movie, the storm, Vi’s warm body beneath you, and the comfort of the fort all lulled you into sleep. It looked like you’d be sleeping in the living room tonight. And there was nowhere you’d rather be.
