For absolutely no reason whatsoever, I feel like we should talk about Limbo. Because it’s a interesting topic with lots of space for theories and perhaps this will help us come back to some common ground of discussion, and be an open enough topic to allow everyone, whether someone who just joined the fandom or has been here for years, to hopefully feel safe and welcome enough to join in and share their thoughts and opinions. Go ahead and use the tag #dsmp limbo so I can see your thoughts, there is no right or wrong answer here.

To start off the discussion, we know the time dilation based on what Wilbur has said is about 30/1 - meaning every 1 second is 30 seconds in limbo, every 2 minutes is 1 hour in limbo, every 48 minutes is 1 day in limbo, every 1 day is a about 1 month in limbo and so on just to give you perspective. We also know based on both what happens in the finale and by what Dream says in the finale, that Limbo changes based on how you die and the circumstances around your death.

Now here are my thoughts at the moment on the matter. While a lot of times I see Limbo in fanfics more personalized to the person killed, one theory I came up with to explain Limbo is that it is actually is more connected to the situation around the death and killer/death.

For example, Schlatt died of a stroke and his limbo then becomes a gym, themeing off the fact of becoming healthy and fit something he wasn’t in life. That lead to his nation being taken over and him not being physically capable to stop it as well as him dying to a stroke, which we are encouraged to believe is caused by his alcoholism.

But I feel like perhaps Schlatt’s is the easiest to connect, Wilbur’s on the other hand is a little weirder. But I think the train station is actually connected to Philza having just arrived, so the relation to travel. Trains are often kept on a schedule to be on time and Philza’s appearance is just in time to kill Wilbur, but too late to stop him from pushing the button.

Mexican Dream’s limbo then reflects more of Dream than of Mexican Dream. With an empty, unfinished nation not unlike how empty and isolated Dream likely felt, as well as angry about nations for being the cause.

This theory becomes a little stronger when looking at Tommy’s 1st Limbo being an existence of basically nothing. And I think this reflects how Dream kinda has nothing at this point. Also relating to how Tommy killed the cat (and am I miss remembering that he also burned his clock?) the only thing(s) Dream had left. It could alternatively relate to an empty stomach adding an element from his death being from the potato.

Rambo’s limbo then connects to Sam for a few reasons, one I think Sam felt very alone in his efforts to keep Dream locked up. Like only he could do it and no one was helping him. It is also similar in the fact that Sam felt so cornered and trapped like killing Ranboo was the only thing he could do, similar to how one would feel stuck on a tiny island surrounded by water that burns. It’s also interesting since for Ranboo, the island is also inescapable like the prison and he is only able to leave when Mexican Dream comes (like Dream only escaping prison when Techno comes), oh and Sam lives on an island too.

Then finally Tommy’s 2nd Limbo I think pretty clearly relates to Tommy asking before he died about why and how Dream saw things, and Dream’s comment of “everything was fine before you came!” so Limbo shows Tommy Dream’s pov at the beginning. Reflecting how Dream feels, his - “I just don’t want to ever be alone.”

Anyways, hopefully that made some sense, those are just some thoughts I have at the moment. Now I wanna hear yours. :) How do you think limbo works? What do you think Punz’s and Dream’s Limbos were? What were Vik’s, Lazar’s and Connor’s Limbos? What do you think would have been Tubbo’s, Techno’s or other character’s Limbos? I wanna comment on something I'm seeing that is deeply annoying me again. I am glad to see several posts similar to this, though.

Firstly, please stop acting like this is an "us vs them" situation but making the "them" be people on your own side who aren't responding to things perfectly. The problem is the people defending Wilbur, attacking Shelby, and spreading hate.

Do not take your anger and upset out on other people, because people are going to feel and respond differently but most people are supporting Shelby. It can be hard to see but people are usually trying their best and not trying to hurt others with what they're saying. You can both support Shelby and want Wilbur gone without agreeing on every opinion. Stop harassing people for responding differently to you. If their opinion is harmful, maybe try explaining why instead of harassing.

Secondly, please stop acting like every CC is this deeply evil, deeply toxic, abusive, horrible person because they haven't made a public statement about Shelby's abuse.

This is from Shelby's likes, it's written by her mod. Shelby herself then likely agrees that this is a reasonable standpoint.

CCs should be supporting Shelby, of course. They should regardless of how close they are to this. However, we know that Wilbur manipulated people, close friends according to replies we've seen. We don't know what the behind the scenes is right now. Imagine if it was you and your closest friends, who you have known for years, and literal millions were watching you. It might take a few days to come to a conclusion, to say something, and I'd personally rather a CC come in a little late than rush an empty response.

I'm not expecting everyone to be perfect in their response, but a response is a response. Again, we don't know what is happening behind the scenes. I understand that public support of Shelby from other CCs is very important, but private support can be very helpful for them. This isn't about the fandom.

There's a difference between supporting Shelby and deplatforming Wilbur. They're connected, obviously, but given that Shelby is another CC, there's more ways to support her compared to previous cases of mistreatment allegations against a CC where it's someone without a platform coming forward.

Stop supporting whoever you want, and do whatever makes you comfortable. But stop attacking people and demanding they stop watching CCs because "all men are horrible monsters" and "all CCs will disappoint you" and "you support abuse if you watch any CC who could possibly support an abuser or abuse". Which ignores the fact that anyone could be an abuser, and abuse isn't a CC issue, this isn't an MCYT issue, it's a society issue. Yes, some groups, especially white men in positions of power, are in positions where they can abuse people easier. But literally anyone could be an abuser. That's part of what Shelby talked about.

I doubt that it's healthy to assume everyone wants to hurt you, to harm others, to abuse and manipulate, and that you can never watch or enjoy someone because they might be bad or support harmful people. Obviously, it's understandable to think that obsessing over a CC is bad because it is. You shouldn't put people on a pedestal and say "they could never do that!". But I'm seeing blogs who have been devoted to a CC and/or their character(s) for 3+ years talking about why you can never find comfort in a CC, and should distrust all of them completely. Like dude. It's fine to like a CC who may not be related to this at all.

We know according to Lexie that some CCs knew about abuse she faced and didn't do anything, in fact they kept hanging out with these people. It's fine to be wary, to stop supporting people who it could be. Because I'm sure there are people behind the scenes who knew something.

But again, the random tumblr blogger who wants to grant a CC a chance to get their thoughts together instead of making a shitty statement is not your enemy! Guilt tripping and harassing people into never thinking about any CC who could be related is not an effective way to support Shelby, and it does not make this seem like something that is about abuse. It makes this seem like online discourse.

This is not drama. Stop treating it like drama where you need to throw around buzzwords. You cannot "win" supporting someone. The only "right" opinion is supporting victims of abuse. People can feel different ways about CCs who did or did not respond. Stop saying people are horrible because they didn't loudly, actively denounce a CC who hasn't responded in one day to possibly finding out for the first time that one of their closest friends is an abuser. That's not supporting Shelby.

random anon throwing in my two cents (all that’s in my wallet actually) but while i don’t mind in the context of Hanging Rose if wilbur becomes willum since tommy is already tomys, in general i am very leery of name changes. because it’s you, I’d probably still give anything you read a chance since you’re epic, but i usually don’t even touch a fic when a name gets changed. for some very fanon-relevant characters (which sbi definitely are. I’ve read so many versions of who they are /pos), names are often one of the few consistent, binding things, so I feel like if you take that away it’s suddenly just some other guy. a different character. “what’s in a name” and all that. to me, c!wilbur is very different from somebody with all the same characteristics and looks but named walter or smth (there’s a walter white joke to be had in here somewhere. pretend I made it and that it rlly landed good and normal). ive seen similar things occur in different fandoms where the most oc’ified characters get their name changed constantly (hadrian black…….) and it just fails to rlly feel like the same character, superficial though a name may first seem. im attached to the characters, and a lot of a character is defined by name in fics. but when it comes down to it obviously just do what you want and live your best writing life in whatever way is most comfortable for you!

this is a very good point and one I pretty much agree with. in the past I've very much been against the oc-ification of characters in fandom spaces solely because like what you said, I'm attached to the character and it fails to feel the same. this is just... an unusual situation I'm struggling to find the right way to deal with. like, yeah, I think I've done a lot more character work on c!wilbur than cc!wilbur ever did. but I am attached to the character from canon itself.

I do want to emphasize for all that I've been saying the character is mine now, I have always been very focused on writing c!wilbur in a way that feels in line with the character and that's not going to change if I do end up finishing rose. the only reason I've considered using willum as a name is because in the fic itself, rose!wilbur's name is already willum. like, that's his full name and wilbur is a nickname. if I switched the text to call him willum solely, nothing about him as a character would change. I would still be writing c!wilbur. I wouldn't be trying to change him to turn him into my oc. the only purpose the name change would serve would be to help readers have an easier time feeling the separation of c!wilbur and cc!wilbur

also, the main reason I feel like this could work is because an anon helpfully pointed out earlier that, like, 75% of glass divine never called him wilbur. it only called him the pythia. and the readers seemed to have no issue with that so I feel like switching to willum would be more akin to that rather than me trying to oc-ify c!wilbur

I’ll admit my views of Dream are a lot more negative than positive.

I don’t love that he made MCC so competitive, but I get why he did. Speedrunner. Good at pvp. Etc. I still felt it was whiny and not in the spirit of a competition that aims to let the creators have fun (in that the intake form has things like “do you prefer sillies or sweaty” and each team has about an equal amount of both) but like. It wasn’t just him for that. I think MCC is much more fun without him and a few other very competitive people, and getting to see more range in creators is more enjoyable.

I think he’s a bit overhyped; but I’m not gonna cite Wilbur creating the manhunt idea or Minecraft but, it’s mostly just. I dunno, reflexes aren’t everything in this game. And someone being a builder or redstoner doesn’t mean they can’t win pvp, and I feel like he was very… derogatory, toward those types of players. The Grian twitlonger comes to mind.

I think he dropped the ball severely on his own server, and it impacted the lifetime of that story. I think rushing everyone to finish their stories and refusing to communicate is dick behavior, and I especially think that ignoring how the women and non-binaries on his server were treated by fans when a statement from him would have gone a long way is a bit of a dick move. I understand that ADHD can make you bad at communicating, but even support or information in private would have helped, or even an admission that he didn’t know.

I personally think the situation with QSMP, something Quackity was publicly working on for ages, and Dream’s spur of the moment half baked idea for something similar, was and is dumb. I think Tommy’s criticism of it was both funny and justified. Quackity wasn’t secretive about this server. Everyone knew it was coming for a while, and the only true surprise was Quackity having the language mod developed to release during the second week of the server. I think Dream’s meltdown about lack of communication is a little ridiculous all things considered. I do wish Quackity had been more able to curb his own audience away from harassment and stalking, and that Dream would take literally any responsibility for the way his own fans act as well. It’s not impossible to curb your community - if Techno could do it despite us all being notoriously feral (I.e. encouraging his community not to hate on squidkid or reminding us that roleplay is roleplay) then it’s not impossible to make a statement and calm the masses some. Dream’s relationship with his fans is very parasocial and I know he fosters that a lot. I feel it should come with some sense of responsibility. Just like Fit deserved to be called out for what he said about the one mod’s mobs, I think these criticisms are fair. (and watching the clip of Fit being told about the implications, I do think “it was a refrence” was meant to be an apology - it’s sorta just how he talks, but I get if people still dislike it. He has gotten more mindful about it moving forward and now won’t repeat a meme/joke unless he knows it’s not hateful, so he has changed behavior.)

I find him to be generally up his own ass, in other words. Which is whatever - it’s not a sin. I don’t like his stans and they are regularly a more intense type of toxic, but I also think most stans of any creator are insufferable. I mostly just dislike that Dream seems to encourage their behaviour much more. He’s young, and so is his audience.

I think his work with Technodad has been overall helpful especially when it comes to donations to the sarcoma foundation. I understand those who feel uncomfortable about it, and I hope you won’t lash out against Technodad for it. Mans has barely learned Reddit, let him be.

I don’t know what to say about the allegations. On one hand, it’s an awful thing to do and I feel for the victims, especially with having to deal with the stans harassing them for bringing evidence to light. I think the victims deserved far better treatment. I think Dream’s reputation would have been far more favorable if he had at least addressed the situation respectfully, and either owned up to the clear evidence or provided evidence of his own. On the other, I get that again, he’s young and people make mistakes. This does not mean I think his victims shouldn’t have come forward or that what he did was okay - only that I don’t think I was smart enough at 20 to handle sudden and intense fame either. In this case (unless I’ve missed it) it doesn’t seem like his messages actually went anywhere, which is a slight relief. I would feel better about it if he had handled it more seriously, because I’m unsure if he’s really learned anything from that situation besides that he can get away with about anything if he ignores it. As is, it feels unfinished on his end and I wish he would own up.

All that being said, I don’t claim to know much about the guy.

I’ve watched maybe two manhunts and seen a scattered few videos with him involved. I don’t enjoy his style much, it just feels kinda fake to me, idk.

If Skeppy was Dappers other father

You know how sometimes you spawn with a starter map or some other things? What if when Skeppy joins the qsmp IF he ever joins, with the other H ticket, which was the item bad got for dapper’s adoption/ birth certificate. 

As you all know, bad didn’t get a partner and is a single parent, technically his partner should be Wilbur if I’m correct cause quackity got Luzu, But I could be wrong I’m not too informed on that as much as I should be.

Everyone likes to assume or joke about Skeppy being Dappers other father and he does know a lot about him, when bad called Skeppy one stream, they talked for quite a while and bad even told Skeppy about what was happening in game at the time, when he hung up dapper said “All I heard was marital issues” now, I don’t think the whole situation was canon or out of character for both of them but what I do know is that in a previous stream not to long ago, bad talked about leaving to go to the island and Skeppy sitting on the couch all sad in THIER house, he also talked about the apparent neighbors and neighborhood if I’m correct, so apparently he canonically lives with Skeppy?

I’m mentioning this cause a while ago while I was considering this I remembered, they are roleplaying.. So even if Skeppy did join their characters wouldn’t know each other, but like I mentioned before, he lived with Skeppy before traveling to the island.

Even if Skeppy wasn’t the other parent there’s a high chance he would help take care of dapper and live with or nearby bad, now he probably wouldn’t do very good, and he probably wouldn’t get on a lot either way. Another thing I’m wondering is if he would rather join the Usmp if not already, I don’t know anything about the Usmp other than the fact it’s dream’s new Smp, and that he has apparent beef with quackity and his server?

Another thing I’d like to mention, I don’t remember if he said it was out of character or not, but bad did say that he hoped or wondered if there would be a plane crash or something similar with Skeppy on it. Obviously it’s silly to make a big scene over just Skeppy so mabye more people would be on the plane as well? Also, why and how would they get there? I know there’s a theory that Wilbur for DSMP might be the same person on the qsmp, so it made me wonder if his character also knew anyone before traveling to the island.

Mabye Tommy and Skeppy could join along with a few others from other servers or just other YouTubers in general, I think it would be a great opportunity cause I know there are also other YouTubers some people want to join.

I have varied opinions on c!techno. I think he's interesting because I don't see a lot of genuine good to them as well as being morally terrible. He's diehard loyal to a select few people. He'll kill his allies without a second apology. He has a strict set of morals. Said morals are almost more ruthless than killing as he pleases. He makes long speeches on other people's morality. He does not and will not attempt to understand situations more than he already does.

I really wish they had canonized the Antarctic Empire fully because I think he was already a hypocrite and I think him being a former imperialist who gave it up and now is a challenge seeking anarchist with no interest in the longterm effects of his actions and a dog-eat-dog worldview would be interesting

100% agree that the AE should have been canon, i generally use that as his backstory because i think it dovetails well with wilbur coming from newfoundland as this mutual moral corruption of their ideals that they had in smpearth to pogtopia.

of the two, dream and technoblade, only one of them managed to get tommy to turn against lmanburg for a time. like, for everyone's portrayal of dream as this mastermind manipulator, techno did what he could never do and convince tommy to go against lmanburg. and the way he did it by exploiting tommy's fears of being abandoned is genuinely sinister as hell. its not treated like that from his perspective but from tommy's, thats how it seems.

a similar thing can be said in pogtopia. its implied on several occasions (mostly from wilbur's pov, but again, techno from techno's perspective is damn near a different character) that technoblade was aware that wilbur was going to destroy lmanburg, knew that he likely was going to die in the explosion, and was either complicit or encouraging in this plan. which when you look at the cwilbur finale and how lmanburg represented his friendships (and really you don't have to go as far as the finale, its all throughout lmanburg's history), its again, very sinister.

with ranboo, i believe there was a scene where he literally backed him against a wall, after bonding over their shared social anxiety and willingness to succumb to peer pressure, to join the syndicate and go against snowchester, which i will remind you is the nation ran by ranboo's husband who technoblade executed. again, humorous from techno's perspective but from ranboo's hes terrifying.

so techno's supposed virtue of loyalty is something i find difficult to see. to me, hes not even particularly lawful and driven by ideology. hes driven by a similar thing wilbur and dream are, the desire to be seen as powerful. and under "anarchism" (what techno believes anarchism is about) techno would be the most powerful person, so thats the ideology he drifts towards. but its not like he cares about the wellbeing or freedom of the people around him as you would expect an anarchist to do. and for all of his loyalty the only person he is "loyal" to is himself, and he is willing to accept help from others if they are also loyal to him. and thats the loyalty you see, which is why he feels "betrayed" every time someone disagrees with him.

its not necessarily that hes a hypocrite so much that he is not driven by what he says he is driven by. his sole motivation above all else is to be seen as powerful. he doesnt like governments telling him what to do, so he destroys them. when a dictator calls on him to execute someone and he is faced with either leaving the stage and being called a coward, or displaying his strength by going through with the execution, he goes through with it. he apologizes only when he knows the person will help him if he does. once you realize this, you realize that everything that techno does is perfectly in line with it and there is no hypocrisy within his character other than ones you project onto him.

and thats why hes nearly as bad as cdream is to me. but its also why hes one of my favorite characters.

Lots of good replies on this post but I got inspired by @sohrleas' mention of doomsday prepper Philza. So have a little AU idea!

Philza is a doomsday prepper. He believes the end of the world isn't only possible, it's inevitable and it's only a matter of a waiting game before it happens. And when it happens, he does not want to be caught unaware. His wife Kristin makes good money, so he has all the time in the world to devote himself to this eccentric 'hobby'.

Techno, a local college student, befriended Phil when he was looking for a community garden to plant potatoes in for a school project back in high school. He could not find any, but Phil has a lot of land around his house (safely held between fortified walls) and offered up his garden in exchange for some of the produce he could pickle and jar up. Techno thought it was a little sus but took him up on the offer.

Phil turned out to be a very chill guy, they have some interests in common (literature, history, etc), and Techno has a shitty family (no parents, lives with an uncle who is drunk or gone most of the time) so he ends up growing very close to Phil, and also Phil's son Wilbur who is a few years older than Techno, and Tommy, a younger boy who Wilbur views as a little sibling after they met through music camp (Wilbur is a camp counselor and Tommy had one summer of thinking he'd want to be a pianist. He's since abandoned the dream, but Tommy is growing up in a similar situation as Techno, so that's why he hangs out with Wilbur and Phil and sees them as his family).

Techno does think that Phil's conspiracy theories are a little out there but it's not like Phil is doing any harm with them, and Phil manages to be a very nice individual when he's not talking about the coming doomsday, so Techno mostly ignores that whole thing.

Until one day, he goes over to Phil's place for tea and a chat, and ends up feeling very groggy after only a few minutes. Techno has just enough time to realize Phil drugged him before he passes out.

He wakes up a little while later with his right leg chained to a bed.

The bed is in a very nice room, a fully fitted bedroom with living space, bathroom, and everything. And the chain does allow Techno a decent range of motion. But that doesn't change that he's chained up, and there are no windows, and the door is made of steel, bolted from the outside.

Tommy is also in the room, not chained to a bed.

Phil and Wilbur come down after a little bit, and apologize for the circumstances. See, the world has ended, much like they expected it to. And thus, outside isn't safe anymore. Techno asks what the heck that has to do with them being kidnapped and locked up. Phil explains ever so patiently that they've not been kidnapped, they've been saved. Techno and Tommy are part of the family, no way are Wilbur and Phil going to let them die. They're locked up as a precaution, since neither of them has the survival training the other two do, so staying in the room is safer for now. The chain is because Phil has a fair idea of how stubborn Techno can be.

(Techno does instantly prove him right by trying to throttle him.)

Phil also explains that they shouldn't worry. The house is set up to be defendable and loaded with enough supplies to keep them going for at least a few years, not to mention it being completely off the grid in terms of electricity and water. Kristin will be home soon. It will be a while before they even have to think about venturing outside, and when that time comes Phil and Wilbur will do it so Techno and Tommy can be safe and sound. They're younger, after all. Less prepared. It makes sense. They'll have time to learn how to survive too.

Techno tells them they're insane if they think they'll get away with this. It's going to be super obvious when two people with a strong connection to Wilbur and Phil go missing.

Phil shrugs, and says that since almost everybody outside of their house is dead, he doubts anybody is going to come looking for them.

Over the course of the next week or so, Techno and Tommy stay confined in the room. They're brought food, items to occupy themselves with, anything they need. Techno manages to pry out of Phil that this thing that supposedly has ended the world is some sort of disease, but they're being super cagey with the details. They keep telling them not to worry about the specifics. They're safe. Techno tries a few escape attempts, but can't get far because of the chain. Tommy is reluctant about helping because he's a bit confused and scared, he doesn't think Wilbur and Phil would do this without reason, and also because it's honestly not that bad, is it? No more school, just hanging out all day? Tommy doesn't really miss his old life.

But Techno keeps insisting that they need to get out of there and alert the authorities. Eventually, Tommy does help him pick the lock on the chain. The next time Wilbur comes in to bring them food, Techno uses an improvised weapon (a chair leg) to knock him out. Tommy isn't happy with that and refuses to leave when Wilbur is bleeding unconscious on the floor. Seeing no other option, Techno tells Tommy he'll alert help and come back for him, before sneaking through the hallway. He finds a window and climbs out, then books it across Phil's garden to the wall. He manages to scale it somehow, even as he hears Phil yelling for him to come back.

Techno can run quite fast for a nerdy history major.

He gets to the town and finds it deserted. Like, nobody is around. There are cars abandoned on the asphalt, broken store windows, and the smell of rot in the air. But no people at first glance. A large patch of dried blood stands out.

It hasn't truly sunk in for Techno yet that the world did end. He just wanders down the street, confused.

He sees a shape not too far off then, crouching over something else, and automatically calls out. The person - pale, gaunt - turns towards him. Their chin is covered in more blood. They're hunched over a corpse, eating it.

The zombie lunges at Techno.

Techno hits it with the same chair leg he hit Wilbur with, knocking the person - the monster - down. He turns around and tries to run, but strong hands latch onto his ankle and he's pulled down too, hitting his head on the ground hard. He kicks at the thing, feeling bone crunch beneath his heel. The person barely reacts. It has no eyes anymore, and patches of skin have slouched off the flesh. Techno squirms as it lifts his leg and then opens its mouth, sinking teeth into his flesh to tear at it. He screams, kicking again, and manages to get it off. Through vision blurred by pain, he somehow manages to pick up his weapon and bash the person's skull in, over and over and over, until gray matter leaks from the hole and it stops moving.

Techno barely has a moment to process what just happened before another zombie jumps him.

His shoulder slams into a car, then his forehead meets the pavement a second time, so concussion is guaranteed at this point. His ankle burns and he's losing blood fast. He thinks it bit deep enough to rip into his arteries. The second zombie is even more ambitious, teeth gnashing to reach his throat. Techno struggles to fend it off with his hands on its shoulders but he doesn't know how long he can keep it up.

Right as his strength is failing him, a gunshot rings out across the street. The zombie's head explodes into a spray of gore. Techno just slumps, going boneless, exhausted and hurt.

Phil looms over him, looking so genuinely scared. Seeing the bite on Techno's ankle, he curses. He says something else, but Techno passes out before he can really grasp it.

He wakes up chained to a bed again.

Though it's his other leg this time. Because his right leg, the leg he was chained with the first time, the leg that got bitten, is gone.

Phil is sitting next to him, and he's so relieved when Techno manages to squint at him. He apologizes to Techno. Not for the whole 'locking him up' thing. For not doing it better.

Phil never wanted Techno or Tommy to see all that terribleness. Phil and Wilbur were prepared for all that, but Techno and Tommy weren't. Phil wished he could have done a better job, and shielded them from the cruelty and the gore. At least until they were older, more adjusted. That's also why he hid the details of the disease earlier. It makes people ravenous, hungry for human flesh. It turns them into monsters. He thought it would have been easier if Techno and Tommy believed the disease simply killed people. That it would give them some peace.

Techno is sick, feverish, as he listens to the explanation. Phil says he thinks he was in time with the amputation. Techno will live, though the long-term effects of the virus might be nasty even in a low dose. Techno could be prone to bouts of sickness forever, and never regain full strength. Not to mention he's short a leg now. It's regrettable since Phil was planning to teach both Techno and Tommy how to survive in the long run. For Tommy, that's still an option. But for Techno, he might be forever incapacitated to some degree.

But that's alright. Between the four of them, they can take care of Techno even if he needs some extra help. That's what family is for, after all.

you know another really fascinating and emotionally destroying part of ctubbo's character is the persona's he has (not sure if that's the right word, so pls correct me /srs). Big Law, Pubbo, Mr. Beets, Scribble, etc.

Like c!Tubbo has layers and layers of denial, it's very spare when he directly gets really real with someone. Notable times of this were like when he said "it hurts wilbur" during the 1 year L'Manberg stream, also when he told c!ranboo about the red festival, also when he deterred c!q from punishing c!ranboo during the doomsday era because of what happened to him after "decorating a festival", to name a few. Other than that c!tubbo hides his feelings behind denial, behind layers of things that are not directly decipherable. A notable example of this is during the c!clingy detective stream him (and c!tommy) kept dropping random lines, referencing that what they were doing was part of their "coping mechanism" hinting that though things seem fine, though they love and care about each other and are friends, they are also not okay, not with that situation nor in general.

And so, a lot of c!Tubbo's personas are a bit of a reflection of that. Like Big Law, notably. Like during the exile conflict i always think about c!tubbo the president acting a lot like Big Law (though i dont think he ever was big law in that moment...i could be wrong tho sldfjsdl), like i always felt a lot like the lines were blurred. Because for c!tubbo, the kid, the president who didnt want to be, the guy who never thought he'd have to make a choice to exile or have his country starve from the inside out under walled in rule, it's probably easier to be Big Law in that moment. It's probably easier, because Big Law comes with a semblance of control over the situation, it comes with strict rules, respect, and an emotional distance. And though he never was "Big Law" in that moment i can't help but always feel like it was similar, and that's why i always get incredibly ill thinking about Big Law.

I also think about the Pubbo stream a lot too. Like it always felt like to me like this was the only way cTubbo could express things to cranboo/hint to him about things that he was not able to communicate otherwise (though not all the things he said were really canon to c!tubbo, i more mean like the l'Manberg crater tour and reference to being on 2 lives).

- phil was very scared about you being so gravely hurt, it kept him up for some nights. thankfully, you pulled through.

- he visited whenever he could. if he couldn’t, he was busy making sure coming home felt as comfortable for you as possible while also educating himself on how to take care of you.

- phil would listen to how you felt, and be understanding of your feelings.

- “You don’t have to tell me why you did it, I’m just glad you’re here,” pulling you in for a warm hug.

- when you got back home, he made sure he and the boys had prepared your favorite dinner and desserts.

It was the day you had just got home from rehabilitation, and you two were sitting on the couch. You hadn’t said much, you felt like you had nothing to say. Phil had asked for you to sit down so you two could talk, one on one.

You couldn’t meet his gaze. “I’m sorry,” your voice started to crack. “For making you guys worry about me.” Tears started to form from your eyes and you wept into your hands.

Phil immediately reached over to you to hug you, letting you cry on his shoulder. “We don’t blame you. We don’t blame anybody. I just want you to be here safe with us. Let it all out.” He pat and rubbed your back soothingly as you kept crying. But it was a good cry. He was just glad you came home.

- even though many see tommy as a loud and obnoxious boy with a general disregard for others, we all know deep down that’s a persona. he will go out of his way to make other comfortable in his presence if he truly cares for them. which he does, for you of course.

- he wants to make you happy! when the time is right, he’ll crack jokes and offer to play minecraft with you.

- would tone down the yelling. not because you asked, but he’s afraid of triggering you. treats you like glass. if you notice he’s being quieter than usual and you don’t care, you tell him you don’t.

- if you’re feeling it, he’ll take you out to fun places and to eat. nothing that’s too outlandish like a theme park, but just enough to have a reason to get out of bed that day instead of sleeping in.

It had been a week since you had gotten home and Phil had instructed you to maintain somewhat of a schedule to upkeep yourself. Right now was your nightly routine, washing yourself, brushing your teeth, and finally sliding under the covers. It felt nice. The blanket of sleep consumes you easily…

Until you bedroom door opens you’re being aggressively shaken awake. You groan, shying away, but they’re persistent.

“Ey, wake up, it’s morning!” Tommy shakes you again.

You realize you didn’t dream, but think nothing of it. “Tommy please, what do you want.”

Finally, Tommy pulled your warm sheets from over you, making you flinch. “I wanted to go out to the park today! Feed the ducks! Yeesss!”

You sighed. If you didn’t comply now, Tommy will refuse to stop nagging you for the rest of the day. You rolled out of bed and into the bathroom. You could very clearly hear Tommy’s cheers.

You two had gotten ready, eaten breakfast, and said goodbye to the rest of your family so you could head over to the park. It was close enough that it wasn’t unbearable to walk to. Even if you weren’t completely yourself yet, you were glad Tommy was.

After the short walk you two finally reached the park. Tommy immediately bolted toward the pond and you jogged behind. He had already started throwing the ducks some seeds, and even threw it on a duck. It didn’t seem too pleased.

You two sat at the edge of the pond as you watched the ducks eat. “Hey.” You hear Tommy call to you, and you turn your head to him.

“Can we talk about what happened? With you? Is it okay?” You could hear the uncertainty in his voice.

“Go ahead, what is it?”

“When Techno found out what happened to you, and told us the news, I was scared shitless.” He let out a sad huff. “I thought we were going to lose you.” Tommy kept his eyes fixed at the pond in front of him. “I’m sorry, I really shouldn’t have brought this up. I’m just glad you’re okay.” He sighed.

You put a hand on his shoulder. “Oh Tommy…” You started, “I’m sorry for making you worry. You shouldn’t have to feel like that because of my actions.”

Tommy was lost in thought for a moment, before finally speaking up, “No, please don’t apologize. It’s not anybody’s fault this happened, right?” You nodded.

Tommy stood up, dusting his pants off from the grass. “Come on now, let’s go get some ice cream!” He pulled you up from the ground.

“Last one to get to the shop has to pay!”

Immediately, Tommy bolts in the direction to the ice cream shop, and you catch up to him. No matter the circumstance is, he never seems to fail at putting a smile on your face.

- with wilbur being the oldest, he of course had the responsibility of taking care of everyone. but somehow you and him didn’t spend as much 1 on 1 time as much as wilbur did with his other siblings

- wilbur definitely was going to change that, realizing that and not wanting to make that mistake again.

- he decided that finding a new hobby with you wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

You were sitting at the dinner table, being the last one there. You were poking at your food for the most part, and Wilbur got home late from… whatever Wilbur thing he was doing. Phil cooked pasta for dinner tonight. Wilbur put down his bags at the door connected to the garage. “I’m home! What’s for dinner?”

“Mmm, I love some good ol’ pasta.” He said, already taking a plate out to serve himself. “Also, hey, I bought something I wanted to build with you. Do you mind?”

You finally looked up from your very interesting pasta. “Build..?” You had no idea where this was going.

Wilbur placed his plate on the table and approached the bags of groceries, going through them to find the bag he was looking for. He pulled out a LEGO set. More specifically, a LEGO City set from the looks of the box? “Wilbur, how much was that?”

He blinked at you innocently. “It was only, like, £25. And look! It’s got a little submarine we can make with a rock and ugly sea monster—“

“But why?”

“Why not? It wouldn’t hurt for you to do something new, yeah?” He smiled at you, shaking the LEGO box in front of him to show it off. You sighed, but smiled. “Alright. But maybe you and I should eat this pasta first before we start building.” Wilbur nodded.

“Speaking of water, don’t you think I could teach you how to swim or something?”

- i think out of everyone in the family, he understands you the most in terms of how you feel.

- not suicidal, but just generally having depressive episodes due to his ADHD.

- techno’s generally closed off, but started to really open up to you because he wanted to show he cares, even if it meant going out of his comfort zone.

- techno suggested journaling. once a day or once per week, it didn’t really matter. just as long as you could write down your feelings somewhere.

- he didn’t explicitly say it, but he also bought a book for himself so he could do it along with you. although, he more often than not just forgets to write in it until you mention your own journal.

- if you want to be sad and quiet, you can be sad and quiet with him. his room is a safe space for you if you ever need it and you’re always welcome to come in, just as long as you knock first.

With one hand on your mouse scrolling through the internet, and another resting your head on it, you were safe to admit you were utterly and completely bored. Honestly, you thought about taking another nap after your last one, but a knock on your door stopped you right before you pulled the covers over yourself. “Can I come in?”

You rose from your bed. “Come in. Oh hey Techno.”

He gave a simple wave and his signature “Halloo.” He walked right over to you and handed a journal and a ballpoint pen. “I got this. For you.” His stare was sharp but you could sort of tell he was nervous.

“What for?”

“I dunno. Writin’ your feelings down or drawin’ or somethin’. Whatever helps you vent.” He scratched the back of his neck.

“Oh Techno, thank you. That’s very sweet of you.” You gave a slight smile, but saw that he still had another journal in his hand. “You have two journals?”

Techno raised his eyebrow in confusion before looking down at his hand. “Oh this? It’s for me. So we could do it together, I guess.”

You let out a happy hum. “That’s nice. Say, why don’t we go to your room? I want to see your new lava lamp and stuff.”

Techno shrugged. “Sure. I’ve got more stationary too if you want.” He waved his hand before letting himself out the door, with you following not far behind.

i do think it’s very important to point out questionable behaviour between adults and minors in the CC scene, but doing so to claim definitively on someone’s actions outside of that or a relationship in whole or in part is fucking weird. There’s some stuff I’d consider very sketchy due to Tommy's age of the time regardless of the CC or whether there was malice or not, but that’s because there’s an issue in MCYT spaces of underage creators being treated in iffy ways- it’s an issue of safeguarding, not passing judgement.

And yeah, the amount of speculating I’ve seen painting everyone (even… CCs from entirely different circles? Like, literally, there is no indication that people like Sneeg would have known shit about anything) in the most malicious light possible is honestly reaching the point of counterproductivity. There’s a difference between holding people accountable and going down a paranoia death spiral. I’ve seen people flat out imply that every ex-dsmp member has a past of similar things to Wilbur, which like… there were over thirty people on that server, including fucking Aimsey who’s been consistently speaking for victims every chance they get? The Brighton CC space is huge, and not at all limited to MCYT (and yes, people from entirely different genres of video are friends with MCYTers- Tommy's shown up in quite a few Pinely videos, for one example of crossover with a youtuber of an entirely different genre) si while it’s important to be wary and hold people accountable it’s also ridiculous to assume every CC within the group was intentionally downplaying issues or even had full knowledge on any situation- because again, there’s a lot of CCs in Brighton especially outside the MCYT zone. That’s not saying to not be wary, but immediately speculating about them abusing or harming others in serious ways is genuinely ridiculous and it is something I have genuinely seen. There’s a wide array of possible spectrums between “barely knew anything at all” and “deliberate abuse apologist trying to silence victims”- you can’t hold people individually accountable for any part of that spectrum without knowing what they did, because you’re either punishing someone by forcing them to admit accountability for something they genuinely didn’t do or letting genuinely vile people go off the hook. Will there always be uncertainty there? Yes, but sometimes you have to live with it, because assumptions based off one person's words with no evidence even from those words to the exact culpability of everyone individually are inherently going to be playing guessing games. Everyone has a reason for dismissive actions- some might genuinely not realise the issue, some might be genuinely malicious, and it’s obviously going to be unhelpful to treat someone who was dismissive and insensitive towards victims because of a lack of education the exact same way you treat someone who was genuinely trying to keep them silent for their career.

So Tommy posted on twitter about the situation regarding how Wilbur was abusive towards Shelby.

Now we can speculate on how much other CCs knew about things but we do know that Tommy was really close to Wilbur. In fact, he dropped out of school and moved to Brighton so that he could live near Wilbur, like it was his dream to share an office with him and stream with him.

Tommy is friends with Shelby too, though more distantly. But they have spent time together and made content and he probably saw a fair bit of them together when they were dating. But that doesn't mean he knew what was going on in the privacy of Wilbur's home. And indeed, it took Shelby a lot of time herself to process how abusive the relationship really was. Wilbur was good at hiding that the abusive elements and presenting it as normal.

So, this would have come as a huge shock. (It might even make Tommy ponder his own relationship with Wilbur - it was likely mostly fine, the lack of respect WIlbur showed Shelby and the misogny won't be there, though there is a age gap.)

I don't think making some snappy remark condemning him publicly on twitter would have been the right thing. If he wants to say something to him, there's a better place than a public platform like twitter.

I do believe he needs time to process things, and it would have been nice were he able to not make a statement, but there's far too much pressure to for someone so close to Wilbur and with such a large platform himself.

I like that he didn't hide it in a reply or on a smaller alt account, he tweeted on his main, in support and love for Shelby. He will make another statement when he's ready. Wilbur definitely has had a huge impact on his life and he's still going through a lot at the moment, about to move to America to go on a large comedy tour, not long after his surgery.

tommy's character gets far too much shit.

hi tumblr. i'm gonna need a few bitches to spread this post everywhere, essentially because i want someone, or just tommy really, to see it. so if you really want, you can screenshot it and post it on twitter, reddit, link it everywhere - go absolutely buck wild. i know he reads the VODS comments a lot, but they're chock full of people just insulting him, his character, his writing and everything about his story in the dream smp simply because they don't understand it and because they refuse to acknowledge his character's perspective (mainly because they only care about the pig). reading that many critical comments on something you've created can only make you feel worse about it eventually, and in light of all the awful techno apologist takes on his character, i wanted to basically just word vomit about how wonderfully crafted c!tommy is, as well as compile some other tumblr posts about his character.

there is a massive fuckin community of people who enjoy the character of tommy, because the character is incredible. i myself have made post after post after post commenting on and analysing tommy's character because i find that there's so much to pick apart. but that enthusiasm for his character only seems to be found on tumblr. reddit and twitter seem to hate his character, the VODS seem to be filled with comments from people who only care about techno's perspective (and treat techno as a reliable narrator, which, is the furthest thing from the truth - that guy lies through his teeth all the time), and the smp wiki is a hellscape of godawful takes and mistruths, not even on just tommy's character.

c!tommy is brilliantly acted and brilliantly written, and almost everything he does is either justifiable or has been rectified or admitted as a mistake. you can clearly make connections as to where he got his conclusions from. you feel what his character experiences, as a member of the audience, vividly.

if you look in the more objective sense, c!tommy, and this is especially in the context of him being the youngest character, is a scapegoat. people claim he's awful and destructive when in reality he's a lot less destructive than most characters on the server. a moment that comes to mind is where he diverts schlatt and quackity's attention from pogtopia by breaking part of the flag in manberg, and then replacing it so as to buy tubbo some time - he literally monologues after it about how he doesn't want to destroy but instead rebuild, and how he feels as if nobody else seems to understand that.

his arc in season two was incredible. it was very character driven, and it gave a spotlight to his motivations. at the start we see him in new l'manberg, and he's enjoying his time there, he's skeptical of his friend's presidency, but his main goal is to get back the discs so that he can stop dream and eliminate that threat. he made one screw up that didn't even matter to george, and he paid for it tenfold, even after dream had spent a while with puffy griefing the server and framing it on tommy - what tommy and ranboo did was convinient. then, in exile, we see c!tommy straight up get abused. he's gaslit and conditioned into being c!dream's friend, and in his brain he teaches himself that those acts of abuse are moments of bonding, and it eventually brings him to the point of wanting to end his own life - he's been torn away from his friends and his support system, and nobody will visit him consistently anymore because they only showed him pity, and all he had left was dream, who had hurt him.

but he doesn't die there, because while he didn't understand the full gravity of it back then like he does now, he recognises that dying isn't an escape, and he can beat dream, even if he doesn't know how. so this is where he goes to techno's place, and here's where the fandom starts to misinterpret the situation wildly.

it's the problem similar to when your parents tell you that they're owed something back because you put a roof over their head, despite that being Not How It Works. techno took tommy in and severely mistreated him emotionally. sure, and i understand this, c!techno is a bad communicator who isn't really that empathetic to anyone who isn't phil or wilbur, but that doesn't excuse the blatant lying to c!tommy's face, the guilt tripping, the friendship buying and the degrading. the day before the festival, tommy finally does something violent in his interrogation of fundy, and only then does techno tell him,,,,

that tommy's not equal to him, that techno doesn't respect him all that much, and that they're not friends.

from techno's perspective, and at the time, this was viewed as a positive development in their relationship. oh, he's starting to warm up to tommy! this friendship could really blossom!

no. from a more objective standpoint, what techno has just said to tommy is : 'i respect you only a little bit more now, because while you're starting to act more like me, you're still annoying and a burden.'

and i haven't even touched on the whole 'erasing the words 'Destroy L'manberg' from techno's to-do list' thing, because that instantly refutes the point of 'techno was upfront with his intentions the whole time' - because he wasn't! he may have said it the first time, but you also know what else he did? he repeatedly told tommy that they'd 'air the details out later' whenever the discs were brought up, and from a tommy viewer's perspective at the time, it was framed as if techno was no longer going to do that.

and i also haven't dared touch the 'i would have fought them all for you', because that's major guilt tripping if ever i've seen it.

so, the day of the festival comes, and here's where c!techno and his apologists completely misread c!tommy's thought process, and why he makes the decision he does.

tommy instantly regrets valuing the discs over tubbo, and it's framed as the culmination of tommy having become all the people he said he would never want to be like. and what does he immediately do? he tells tubbo to give up the disc, and he sides with tubbo. he puts his value in his friends, and, by proxy, l'manberg. and when he betrays techno, he tells him 'i'm sorry'.

from a more objective standpoint, tommy's time with techno is him valuing the discs over almost anything else. so, in leaving techno to be with tubbo again, he is valuing people above the discs. so when, on doomsday, techno says his 'discs aren't people' line, what he doesn't realise is that he himself fueled tommy's valuing of discs above people when attempting to fuel tommy's vengeance against tubbo and l'manberg. techno doesn't realise that he was an unhealthy presence for tommy, and an even worse influence.

what techno also doesn't seem to understand is that tommy never hated tubbo or l'manberg - tommy recognises, now at least, that his exile wasn't a product of tubbo, but a product of dream's manipulation, likely in part because at the time, especially with dream lying about tommy blowing up the community house, tommy was the only one who could see it because he had experienced it firsthand. so when techno sides with dream, it's like kicking tommy in the teeth.

and i want to mention that betraying someone doesn't necessarily make the person who was betrayed good, or in the right, or even justified, because tommy was entirely justified to leave techno. you know who else was betrayed? schlatt. but i don't see many schlatt apologists around angry at quackity for joining the rebellion.

tommy stole the axe of peace? good. it was a moment of tommy defining his self-worth, instead of having it defined by others. gone is the age of c!techno belittling him and deciding how much c!tommy should be respected. NEXT!

here's a moment i wanted to talk about that will forever be funny to me.

'i am a person.'

techno's very famous line from doomsday. techno says to tommy that discs aren't people, and that tommy should value people, despite not understanding that by leaving techno, he did just that. and what does tommy say in return, which has been omitted from every c!tommy-critical analysis, and every animatic?

'yes you are, but so are we.'

an acknowledgement of techno's hurt, to which tommy has already apologised for. a statement that says 'your hurt does not excuse, nor justify, the hurt you have inflicted onto us.' an acknowledgement that tommy has already learnt the lesson techno seems to be trying to 'teach' him. but you can't teach him anything by destroying.

c!tommy has had almost everything he has ever owned or built either taken from him or destroyed. ranboo even points out that the only two things of tommy's left standing are his house and his hotel, and if i'm honest, his house is dissheveled. it's a labyrinth of terror due only to how many times it's been torn apart. l'manberg being blown up didn't teach anyone anything about anarchy, or about valuing people over possessions. logstedshire being blown up didn't teach tommy to be obedient.

i could honestly ramble for ages about how nuanced tommy's character is and how much depth and complexity there is to his character's process and his relationship with others, but more than that, c!tommy is forgiving. he invites almost everyone who hates him to the grand opening of his hotel - if that isn't an indicator that he just wants friends, and not to be treated like the embodiment of evil, then i don't know what is. he holds grudges, but he doesn't really actively hate anyone, other than c!dream. but, we'll let him. c!dream deserves nothing but to be pummeled into the floor.

tommy doesn't spoonfeed his character nuance, and he doesn't really spell it out for his audience. he'll mention things like trauma and triggers in passing, but a lot of analysis on his motivations has to be picked up from what is said in passing or from what can be seen in between the lines.

i'd be here for hours if i were to talk about everything i love about c!tommy, because honestly he's one of my favourite characters, and there are so many angles you can look at his character from in terms of his age, his relationships with others, his motivations, his personality, his character arcs etc etc. so instead of doing that, i'm going to compile some much more specific analysis posts below to skim through because they highlight so many good aspects of his character.

Quackity and Schlatt’s Relationship - More Complicated Then You Think

(this is all /rp and about the characters from the dream smp! pls assume i have the dignity not to write analysis of youtubers)

recently there was a bit of discourse surrounding the relationship between Quackity and Schlatt floating around on tumblr. tho i never saw the original post that sparked the conversation, i did see a few posts that were inspired by it mentioning how they disliked that the original post implied that Quackity and Schlatt were mutually abusive and/or equally bad for each other 

since i never saw the original post, i can't be sure if that's what the op meant to imply. it's not really my place to speak about a post that i never got the chance to read. BUT the conversation that was caused by the post in question did get me thinking about how this fandom treats the relationship between Quackity and Schlatt and how little nuance there is in discussions about it

now before i say anything else, i want to make a few things clear:

i don't think Quackity and Schlatt��s relationship is mutually abusive. no need to worry about hearing that from this post

i don't look down on ppl who have different interpretations of their relationship

there will be potentially triggering content in this analysis. i will place a quick warning whenever i think one is needed!

their relationship is romantic in canon and therefore i’ll be treating it as romantic

alright now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, we can finally get on with the analysis! i apologize for how long this is gonna be

part 1: let's talk relationship!

i think we can all agree that Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was not exactly a healthy one. tho it didn't start out that way, it certainly turned into what could be read as abusive or toxic (i personally read their relationship as being abusive in its later half due to evidence provided by the text, but i understand if others prefer to view it as just toxic instead)

but what happened that led to their partnership ending so badly? what caused all of this mess?

well, it was a lot of things. but we will get to that later. let's talk relationship first!

from the very beginning, Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was pretty one-sided. tho they both clearly liked each other as friends/partners in crime both before and after the election (yes they did interact before the election!) Quackity was also interested in Schlatt romantically- something that Schlatt wasn't fully committed to

as we all know from the infamous date stream and from a few other moments, Quackity and Schlatt enjoyed playfully flirting with each other- tho it was pretty obvious that Quackity was more serious about it then Schlatt was even tho Schlatt considered Quackity to be very attractive

in my opinion, Quackity is someone who wants a long term relationship, while Schlatt is more interested in flings. this can be seen in Schlatt refusing to marry Quackity and rejecting most of his advances while Quackity tried his best to convince him to feel otherwise. Tommy put it best: Quackity is just one of Schlatt’s many bitches U_U

to Quackity, the romantic aspect of their relationship was very important. because Schlatt never actually shot him down or told him that he didn't feel the same way, Quackity took that to mean that they were truly in love. Schlatt on the other hand wasn't very invested in the romantic side of things but clearly valued Quackity’s looks and his support as an ally against Pogtopia so he never fully rejected Quackity’s advances

this might not seem like too big of a deal considering the other things that happened between them, but i think it shows part of the nature of their relationship. there is a lot of miscommunication and, on Schlatt’s end, manipulation of emotions. love is a strong motivator for loyalty and Schlatt is a smart guy who would know how to use that to his advantage

but that isn't to say that Schlatt didn't ever care about Quackity!

Schlatt is a complicated guy and figuring out when he's actually being genuine can be pretty difficult. but i think there are some moments that point to Schlatt genuinely caring about Quackity

when he was alive, Schlatt was pretty paranoid. not as paranoid as Wilbur, but certainly up there. but there were never any times where he truly questioned Quackity’s loyalties after his first day as president. Schlatt also seemed truly upset that Quackity betrayed him, bringing up their status as partners in crime while ranting about how much it hurt him and singling Quackity out while talking about how he had been abandoned during his time of need

Schlatt also spent a lot of time sulking after Quackity betrayed him and whining to Ponk about needing a new bitch. this is in contrast to how angry he was after Tubbo betrayed him- both during and after the execution

there is also the situation with the Big Man Gym 

after being dead for a while, Schlatt contacted Quackity despite them leaving off on bad terms and asked for him to visit him in his cave gym. when Quackity showed up, Schlatt talked about how he valued their relationship and the good times they had together. tho this can easily be seen as emotional manipulation, Schlatt’s a lot smarter than he seems and- if he doesnt have memory issues due to being a ghost- would know that Quackity’s opinion of him was in the dump at the time of his death and most likely wouldn't have improved since then. Fundy has a higher opinion of Schlatt than Quackity does and is someone who obviously craves validation. but Schlatt went to Quackity first anyway and trusted him to help revive him

i think that this is all good evidence that points towards Schlatt truly caring about Quackity as much as someone like Schlatt can care about anyone- or at least valuing him as a companion

i also think that it is pretty common knowledge that Quackity cared about Schlatt- and possibly still does- but i will go over a bit of evidence that i haven’t already mentioned before we move on to the next part

Quackity tried multiple times to impress Schlatt (like when he lied about knowing how to play chess), would attempt to help Schlatt when he was drowning in water, sadly said that they could have had something together while Schlatt was dying in the caravan, and implied that he wouldn’t have left if Schlatt hadn’t taken down the white house. Quackity also willingly went to the Big Man Gym after being summoned there by Schlatt and wanted to revive him long before the revive book became part of the story

part 2: what made it fall apart?

everything i've said so far has been pretty interesting (hopefully) but it doesn't really answer the original question: what went wrong to turn Schlatt and Quackity’s mainly positive partnership sour?

well it comes down to two things in my opinion: their incompatible desires for political power and Schlatt’s deteriorating mental state

Quackity wanted political power from the beginning and wasn't afraid to be open about his desires. he pooled his votes with Schlatt because Schlatt offered him the position of vice president, something Wilbur and Tommy weren’t willing to give to him. tho Quackity obviously cared about L’Manburg and wanted to see good things for it, he also desired power and was willing to team up with someone he didn't fully agree with to get said power

at 32:40 in this video, Quackity talks about how in politics everyone uses everyone so it's alright if Schlatt is using him. he then talks about how he doesn't want to be a man with no power and how he understands that Schlatt’s main goal is also gaining/keeping power. Quackity also shows a bit of his naughty evil side by saying if he overthrows Schlatt then the fun ends too early! 

(side note: these two are pretty evenly matched in intelligence and manipulativeness, i love it!) 

it's a bit of a fandom misconception that Quackity was a love sick yes man during the Manburg era. tho Quackity did want to please Schlatt and was in love with him, he didn't shy away from standing up to or disagreeing with Schlatt when he believed it was needed

at around 26:12 of this video, Quackity and Schlatt meet together in private and Quackity tells Schlatt off for playing down his role in the power structure of Manburg. since this was very early in Schlatt’s reign, Quackity shows no fear towards him and confidently tells him not to treat him like that

Quackity also broke Niki out of jail after regretting letting her be put there in the first place, tried to convince Schlatt to not execute Tubbo, jumped in front of Fundy when Schlatt tried to attack him, tried to stop Schlatt from tearing down buildings, and attempted to protect the white house he built from being destroyed by Schlatt. these are not behaviors of a pure yes man but of someone who, despite fear, has the confidence to speak up for himself even when disrespected by someone in authority

Quackity has always been someone who wanted power and someone who was never a yes man to authority. this contradicts with how Schlatt believed Quackity should act as vice president. in Schlatt’s opinion, Quackity’s one job is to sit around looking pretty while Schlatt does all of the important things and holds all of the power. Schlatt was a big fan of promoting people to worthless positions of authority and its pretty obvious that he considered vice president to be similar to the fake positions he gave Fundy and Tubbo 

in the end, this was a big part of what destroyed their relationship. like it or not, Quackity’s a power hungry guy and always has been. he didn't like that Schlatt constantly shoved him aside and refused to listen to him

now onto the nasty bit...Schlatt’s mental state

cw for mentions of alcoholism, mental deterioration, and abusive behavior  

before i say anything more, i just want to say that i don't think having issues with alcoholism makes someone a bad person. i personally have some issues with such things so it would be pretty stupid of me to say being an alcoholic makes you a bad person. alcoholism does negatively affect your cognitive functions tho and, combined with other health issues, can cause some of the very serious mental problems that Schlatt clearly struggles with

throughout the Manburg era, Schlatt’s mental state rapidly deteriorated. he went from a pretty normal- if eccentric- guy who had a drinking problem, to someone who was delirious most of the time. it's a sharp and noticeable decline that caused a lot of pain for Quackity due to Schlatt often taking his excess aggression out on him by yelling at him and/or belittling him. tho Schlatt often belittled Quackity before he went fully off of the deep end, it was never as aggressive as it was when he was in this delirious state of mind

it was during one of Schlatt’s most aggressive and delirious moments that he tore down the white house despite Quackity’s protests. as we all know, this caused Quackity to snap and kill Schlatt (it's more complicated than that but we will get back to that). as mentioned previously, Quackity implied that he would have stayed with Schlatt if the white house hadn’t been destroyed

in my opinion, these two things combined are the biggest reasons why Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship fell apart. their differing desires for power were not compatible and Schlatt’s awful behavior while his mental state declined caused a rift between them that couldn't be fixed

part 3: how toxic was it really?

cw for emotional and physical abuse 

as i said all the way back in part one, Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was not healthy. i have provided many examples in the other two parts that shine a light onto why it wasn't healthy, but i didn't show the entire picture

there are many moments that show exactly how Schlatt treated Quackity when he was acting at his worst and none of them are pretty. tho Schlatt was never truly aggressive with his insults until he started to go off of the deep end, that doesn't mean that what he said wasn't negatively affecting Quackity

Schlatt would belittle, insult, and mock Quackity for his appearance not being up to his standards, for his opinions, and for being emotional in ways that Schlatt disapproved of like crying. tho Schlatt would often brush off Quackity’s reactions towards this cruel behavior, it's very clear that Schlatt’s treatment of him has stuck with Quackity in many ways

Quackity is very sensitive about his appearance and it seems to be because of how badly Schlatt hurt his self esteem during their time together. Schlatt tied Quackity’s worth to his appearance and then would claim he wasn't meeting his standards of attractiveness. we can tell that this has stuck with Quackity because of his sensitivity towards people bringing up the scar on his face (something that greatly alters his physical appearance) and he still reacts very badly when Schlatt calls him the mocking nickname flatty patty

speaking of flatty patty- that stupid insult shockingly has a lot of weight in Quackity’s relationship with Schlatt. tho its something the audience is meant to laugh at, the nickname also shows just how little Schlatt respects Quackity because he's constantly throwing it around just to make Quackity upset. Schlatt’s last words are flatty patty all because he wanted to get in one last dig at his ex and ruin Quackity’s day even further 

Schlatt tends to do a lot of things that are intended to make Quackity upset. tearing down the room Quackity made for him in the white house is the biggest example of this- especially since Schlatt mentions how it will upset Quackity while he does it. you can see this moment at around 19:10 of this video

and now let's get into the elephant in the room when it comes to these two: Quackity was scared of Schlatt. tho we never really see Schlatt hit or attack Quackity physically outside of their confrontation at the white house or their confrontation in the caravan, these clips imply that Quackity was at the very least scared of Schlatt physically harming him in some way 

as for actually physically harming him, Schlatt hits Quackity multiple times with a pickaxe and with his fists during their white house fight. Quackity hits Schlatt a couple times too, tho these are all primarily defensive blows since he is trying to protect himself and his property. he also chases after Quackity with a bow after Quackity’s plan to trick him into signing Manburg over to the Pogtopians fails and hits him multiple times during the caravan confrontation

all of this evidence shows that Schlatt was an abusive (or at least toxic) partner towards Quackity and someone who greatly affected him in many ways

tho Quackity did a few questionable things throughout his relationship with Schlatt (such as trying to get Schlatt to have sex with him despite Schlatt not being interested as shown in the later half of this video) and did some downright morally wrong things during his time as vice president of Manburg, no one deserves the pain of an abusive relationship- even a person who has done bad things

as a brief side note before we move on because i know people will bring it up if i skip over it, Quackity did- and most likely still does- want to literally possess Glatt. he brought up reviving Schlatt and using him as a political pawn after Schlatt’s funeral and during their conversation at the Big Man Gym Quackity talked about owning Glatt and having him work at Las Nevadas with no pay

this is unsettling behavior to say the least but this essay isnt about the aftermath of their relationship so much as it is about their relationship when it was actually happening. maybe i will make another post talking more about how Quackity’s relationship with Schlatt affected him even after Schlatt’s death and/or about Quackity’s relationship with Glatt

part 4: final thoughts

i’m not exactly sure why the nuances in Schlatt and Quackity’s relationship get lost when it comes to the fandom, but it’s pretty disappointing to see. hopefully this essay can help people take a closer look at canon and maybe even help them find something interesting that they’d want to explore!

tho the point of this essay is to clear up any misconceptions and hopefully add some nuance to the conversations surrounding Schlatt and Quackity’s relationship, i also wrote it in hopes of showing people how fascinating these two partners in crime were back in the Manburg days. i didn’t cover everything but i think i did a pretty good job for my first analysis post in the dsmp fandom

also since you read to the end, i must say thank you! it really does means a lot to me that you did. i hope you enjoyed and maybe even learned something. this post can be used as a resource if anyone wants to use it as such

Thank you for lending an ear to listen even if I just kinda showed up. I really appreciate it. I've actually been reading through some of your other stories and they're very good (I adore the fae works!).

When it comes to Wilbur, I'm just. Very disappointed and upset. Of course I support Shubble and am glad she spoke out, it's very important and I'm glad that it's encouraged others to come forward with their own stories of abuse at the hands of large creators. At the same time though part of me wishes she hadn't said anything, so I could have continued as I was, in blissful ignorance, even if I feel really guilty for thinking like that.

It just saddens me that someone I looked up to so much ended up being this horrible person. It makes me worried that I too am bad, that somehow he has imprinted his awfulness unto me. I used to be horrible too. I like to think I've grown as a person, I was only a kid, but have I? Or was being drawn to Wilbur a sign? Like attracting like?

Y'know, I used to say that my hair style goals were how Wilbur's hair is, and recently I got a haircut. When I took a shower earlier it ended up floofing up in a similar way to his. I don't know how to feel about that. Maybe I should style it differently, even though I like the floof. I don't want to be even a little reminiscent of an abuser.

I am reminiscent of him though, in ways I can't change. I used to feel so seen by him, we're both song writers, and hypochondriacs, and I wanted to be him so badly I would cry. I would cry because he was everything I desperately craved to be as an insecure transmasc, an attractive guy with a beautiful voice and an amazing life. And now he's horrible, and probably always has been, and all of my memories of him are tainted.

I hate that I can't listen to Lovejoy anymore. It feels unfair to the other band members. It isn't their fault Wilbur is awful, and yet I'm taking away a source of their income. I know I'm taking away from Wilbur too, but he's only one person out of the group. Maybe that's just me giving an excuse so that I won't have to stop enjoying their music. It doesn't matter, I can't stomach listening to them anymore anyways.

I keep getting songs from YCGMA stuck in my head. It's like now that I can't listen to it anymore my brain has decided to fuck with me by making me listen to it anyways. I can't even justify listening to that album, that's just Wilbur's music. I was going to cover a song from that album for fun. Now I can't.

Is it bad I still find comfort in Wilbur as a character? C!Tommy is my favorite, but C!Wilbur is almost always a huge part of any C!Tommy story and I love C!Wilbur stories too. I know C! ≠ CC! but I just. It's complicated.

Idek why I'm this upset. I haven't been an avid watcher of anyone in the DSMP in at least over a year. If anything this whole thing has brought me back into the fandom more than I have been in ages. I feel bad about that, but also this situation has introduced me to people like Aimsey, whose content I'm seeing more of and I find myself enjoying.

I've also found more great DSMP fics lately in my quest to binge read them before the mass deletions start. Is it bad to find good things in a bad situation?

hey tech, sorry for a bit of a late reply I've been busy the past few days

(sorry about the 'tech anon' thing, it's just a habit since that's how I refer to most of my anons. I'm going to still tag your ask as tech anon though just for my tagging system if that's okay)

anyway, yeah, I get that. I get the guilty wish that none of this had ever come out so you could just continue to go on in blissful ignorance. when someone learns something very upsetting, it's only natural to feel like you wish you never learned that. you don't need to feel guilty for that. you're not a bad person for your emotional reactions to things. your actions are what matters.

also, you are in no way a bad person because you were drawn to wilbur's content. the persona wilbur put on for the internet was not representative of who he actually was. you were drawn to the facade. an illusion of the person wilbur could've been, if he actually practiced the things he preached. you said you used to be a bad person, but you've changed. the fact that you are worried at all that you might still be bad shows a level of self-awareness and concern that wilbur apparently did not have. because wilbur was aware he was a bad person and treated the people around him terribly, but he didn't care to try and be better. as long as you're trying to be better, you're already leagues ahead of him.

also, regarding the hair, the floofy fringe is an incredibly common haircut. that is not exclusive to wilbur soot. you do not look like him if your hair does the floof similarly to his, it just makes you look like thousands of other dudes with fluffy fringe.

the day after shelby first streamed I had an MSR song stuck in my head and I hated it so much. it really sucks. you just have to try and drown it out with other music

it's not hypocritical at all to still find comfort in c!wilbur. I know it's complicated, and there's so much discussion I could get into as to why it's so complicated, but we can all separate the guy and the character in our heads. there's no reason to feel guilty about that. and there's also nothing bad about finding good in this situation. I think it's really sweet that you've found so many great fics in this time and I'm so glad you've been getting comfort from them. you're appreciating the authors hard work and that's a good thing! you don't need to feel bad about that

I had half a thought (tm) and uh... Dreamsmp actor au anyone?

Wilbur is a mid level celebrity with a strong music side gig along with being an actor. He’s been in the field for quite a few years and has a bad habit of coming off as condescending even when he doesn’t mean too.

Tommy is a rising actor and his role in the Smp is his first big role... ever really. He’s very excited and a tad shy working on such a big set with such expensive props and cgi but our boy is trying his best guys.

Technoblade is an all around acting star who’s capable and willing to do just about any role. Hero, Villain, Side Character, cheesy Rom Com Villain. You name it, he’s probably tried playing it. His fanbase is just a ravenous because he doesn’t technically ‘star’ (as in one of the main characters) in many shows or films. However, he is in a lot of stuff. Many of his fans will just watch a show to see him because he has a habit of going dead on social media for weeks. This is literally all they get. His stage name is ‘John Doe’ because he though it would be hilarious. You go to the red carpet have Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, And Benedict Cumberbatch and all of a sudden, holy shit, here comes ‘John Doe’.

Phil is, quite literally, just Tommy’s hella supportive dad. He only has a role because he’s actually pretty good at acting a Techno took a shine to him and strong-armed the writers into including him. It worked surprisingly well and that’s why Dadza doesn’t appear until the tale end of Pogtopia v.s. L’manberg.

Michael is Techno’s little brother and tries to follow in his footsteps. He often ends up playing as a younger version of Techno whenever such a role is necessary for a show. This is actually his first role where he hasn’t been canonically related to Techno is some way.

Dream, or Clay, is often dubbed a Chameleon because no one’s 100% certain what he actually looks like? Man has played a rather major part in so many shows and he’s looked completely different in all of them. Not to mention his habit of showing up to major events dressed as whatever character he’s played is most relevant at the time. Is a master choreographer and actually knows how  to swordfight. Attempts to do all of his parkour stunts but those are only backed up by two years of gymnastics when he was five. It doesn’t end well. Much like Techno, his fans will watch shows featuring him but rather than this being due to a lack of content, it’s more of a Where’s Waldo situation where they try and find which character he plays before the ending credits. It’s harder than you think.

George and Sapnap are his co-stars on a series of movies called ‘Manhunt’ that are most similar to a mixture of Fast and Furious and Saw. Or maybe Maze Runner if you’ve seen it.

BBH is a voice actor who’s characters are often various monstrous and almost purely cgi. He often acts as a medic for Clay when he hurts himself attempting one of his stunts.

Foolish is in much of the same boat as Bad. Minus playing Doctor.

Schlatt is 100% both a renowned actor for villains, has voice acted at least one disney-villain esk villain, and is also co-director for ‘The Smp’ and it’s spinoff, ‘Tales from the Smp’.

Ghostbur has an entirely different voice actor.

Purpled is both a character and the stuntman for both Tommy and Tubbo due to how similar he looks to them, being nearly identical to Tubbo when wearing Tubbo’s costume wig and horns. This is mostly on Schlatt’s orders and he just makes do. Especially since he gets so much money for it.
