-I like the idea that Rosie is mainly friends with Rooney and Berrie ontop of that. The three of them often tag team storylines and how theyd interpret them into different mediums. Rosie will draw up a bunch of concept stuff while Rooney writes up a pitch bible and Berrie will start making shit move and throwing in her own ideas on camera angles and character designs.

-as an animation major Berrie was required to take a sound design class early on, which is where she met Oliver! Hes very laid back, and likes to go with the flow, but functions a little like the "mom" of the group. Often reminding the girls to take breaks, drink water, stop looking at their screens lest they get eye strain etc. He's multi-talented tbh but Music is his one true passion and he likes how the girls are always giving him collaboration opportunities.

-Oliver and Rosie like to talk sports a lot, both having played a bunch when they were younger and throughout high school.

-Lavender Lynn is Oliver's number one "person who needs constant reminders to settle down" she is in a constant buzz of trying to get the best shots and is utterly obsessed with the process of artistic documentation. Everything must be documented.

-the whole school loves her for this actually, she has a whole side gig where other students hire her to help photograph their projects. She saves everything she earns from this for her future dream plans to visit paris. She has it set really, many of the artists who she helps photograph now will remain steadfast clients of hers forever onward.

-PJ and Lynn actually took a print media class together at one point. Which didnt at the time spark an everlasting friendship. But it did give PJ an easier in to ask for Lynn's help documenting a project the group was working on. One of Lynn's first times photographing them work happened to fall on a day where Rosie had planned to trick everyone into going on a nature walk sans devices... Lynn wound up really appreciating this outing and decided to continue hanging around the group even after that project had ended.

and I have a lot of headcanons for the Sawamura family! As a disclaimer, I tend to write whatever is needed for any given storyline, so dont hold me accountable in the future if I dont 100% hold to these lmao

I fully agree with his siblings being substantially younger than him. But personally I also love the idea of making Daichi an unplanned teenage pregnancy, making the parentification of him less a facet of "bad" parenting and more a result of kids who were just not ready for a baby. it also makes his very mature disposition a very nice contrast to the idea that he was a result of teenage mistakes. In this way, his younger siblings were his parents "chosen" kids, the kids they had once they were older and ready for it, and I think they were very good parents. unfortunately they were very good parents after Daichi had already grown up. in this you can push his age from his siblings anywhere from 8-15 years older than them. ((when I write, I try to maintain canon family dynamics unless it'll play a roll in the story, so I often give the age gap at 6 years for realism, because we know he has 4 siblings by 18 and you can only squeeze out so many 9 month pregnancies in so many years lmao.)

so daichi functions as a third parent by default because his parents never really saw him as part of the white-picket-fence planning process, those are the kids that came later. it doesnt mean they dont love him, but a lot of his foundational years, 0-8, were in the care of literally children. (Assuming a teenage pregnancy of like 17) And they just... Couldnt really handle raising a kid and it required him to create a lot of independence and self-soothing skills.

it also doesnt help that I think he takes pride in this. In the future, as an adult, he might have resentment towards his parents but in the timeline of him being in high school I imagine he sees his own role as a point of pride. he is being "mature" and "responsible" and "useful" and so clearly he's being a good person so he likes the roll he has in his family. he doesnt want them to treat him like a kid because kids are work and require effort and energy and cause problems and he is Better Than That. he's got a bit of a martyr complex in that way where he thinks its a good thing he acts and behaves this way.

i also believe 100% in any interpretation that his siblings absolutely, disgustingly, adore him. he might be the third parent but he's definitely their favourite parent. for all the resentment and anger that his parentification will cause in his adult years, for the inevitable divide growing between him and his parents, the emotional neglect, all of it, he is the person that his siblings will idolize as their greatest support. And even if he stops coming around as often and tries to rebuild a life that centres himself rather than other people, they will always think of him as their hero, and want to make him proud and seek his approval far more than they do their real parents.

theres like a million other little headcanons that contradict these ones - Im also especially fond (as anyone who reads my work knows) of the narrative that Daichi's absolutely a daddy's boy in his idolization of his father, and the father-son dynamic is one of my favourite to explore with him. the influence of family dynamics, bloodlines and obligations (real or imagined) is like... My #1 trope for him. i love giving him a larger than life bloodline and instead of everything I just described, making his martyr complex one born of a desperate desire to fill unreasonable large shoes left behind from whatever reason. in equal measure to the emotionally neglectful parents I love me a good "how am I supposed to live up to this?" story.

this is no story of soft fluffy siblings and overcoming frankly insane family traditions with the power of twin sibling love. the two are pitted against each other from the very beginning. in fact, they know they were going to end up fighting each other to the death in the future. they're not particularly bothered about it. it's normal for them, so why would they ?

the twins do have some form of sibling fondness and affection for each other in the sense that they see the other as their only equal. theyre the only ones who cld kill each other. which was why wen yang absolutely went batshit when a rival internal faction decided it was a good idea to get rid of wen ming when the twins were just 12.

when wen yang finally got the position of head disciple and heir, he decided to start culling the ranks and keeping only those who have utmost loyalty to him. his father rlly didnt give that much of a fuck, hes just happy that his heir is Just Like Him. even gave wen yang, now wen ruohan, a proud pat on the back when his son assassinated him personally. it never did take long for wen ruohan to figure out that his old man had orchestrated his sister's death personally

he gets married down the line too and has two sons. one is a perfect heir. one is just an absolute idiot. his wives dont really compel him, like the way cangse says wei changze compels her. whatever, wen ruohan doesnt have the time for that. he has a sect to run.

wen ruohan is one of the first to get to see cangse sanren and wei changze's child, baby wei ying. the first words out of his mouth are "that dumpling's ugly as hell".

cangse sanren calmly passes her baby to the waiting arms of wei changze.

then she proceeds to remind wen ruohan why shes the superior twin.

yes hi!!! This ask is so exciting to me because I have been a little too into quotev history and dynamics and social interaction (hence the blog) for a few years now. I only started “archiving” in late 2022, but feel free to look through my older posts for any info. everything's a bit clogged up with the “quotev death” posts but back in the archive there’s a decent amount of stuff. I collect whatever i can. also feel free to hmu if you have any specific questions.

the hidden social media of quotev was always such a funny thing to me. Even older users who used to roleplay or make quizzes and fanfics there didn’t seem to be quite aware that it had become so centered around the activity feed, and of course any mentions of it on bigger platforms like youtube were always like “cringe 12y/o fanfic haha.” (Not that anything we actually did was any less silly.) anyway, i was always torn about this because i did NOT want quotev to become more popular, but i wished people knew about the crazy shit that really went down there. Your post-mortem is a great idea because you’ll be telling the story of social quotev with no worry of sending new users to the site…because he is already dead

thoughts on bruce x jack drake?

hello anon apologies for the late reply but when i first received this ask i immediately assumed there was a leak in mine and @plutoslvr messages because we were literally talking about it about two seconds beforehand. i could barely sleep that night.

my thoughts are that old man yaoi is so enjoyable when it's just slightly ridiculous and entirely impossible. there are three ideal sections of the brujack ship (enjoyed by population NO ONE, apparently, but with our combined efforts i imagine we can spark this flame):

rivals to lovers

bruce wayne vs wanting to bone people who want him dead

doomed by the narrative

1. rivals to lovers.

bruce and jack competing in the worlds most intense "who is the best average-leaning-towards-okay dad" battle. trying to outperform in casual "okay dad" actions to win "okay dad" points from tim, something that is totally normal and entirely possible (jack is always in the lead and bruce has not yet realised that he will never overtake him).

this one is so fucking funny to me. silly events such as them fighting on who gets to take tim to his school events, comprising on taking turns (for tim's sake, not because they want to) or attending them together (the pta now think bruce wayne and jack drake are in a relationship). jacks like im taking tim to the skate park and bruce is like well i told tim i'd take him to lunch — now it's bruce and jack taking their kid to the park then lunch together and the paparazzi have no idea how to headline this.

i imagine eventually tim can't handle this truly bizarre tension filled dynamic anymore so he cancels last minute and bruce and jack are like, well, we've already booked a table at this super expensive restaurant AND that cool movie afterwards, so we might as well make use of them.

at some point the "i HAVE to one up the other guy to impress my son" becomes "i HAVE to one up the other guy to impress our son AND so he realises how i'm obviously a catch"

i imagine eventually when they form some sort of established relationship ("do not call me your damn boyfriend, bruce, are we fifteen?") the rivalry doesn't really stop, but it's far more fond and well, tim's just glad he doesn't need to set aside two days a week to make sure he spends time with each of them.

2. bruce wayne vs wanting to bone people who want him dead

now we all know bruce's ideal type is someone who is either a) actively a danger to his life or b) was at some point more inclined to being a danger in his life or a secret third thing that is c) would become a danger to his life if pushed slightly in that direction. we've no time to psychoanalyse this but it's hardly a point that needs to be explained after taking a look at his long list of exes.

now, after this, is it truly out of the realm of possibility that after jack drake finds out that bruce wayne is the fucking batman and is to partly blame for tim's dangerous life choices he stomps over to the man's house and threatens to SHOOT HIM, that bruce wants him carnally. my exact words when reading this scene was "rather reservedly, i imagine this level of foolish and almost stupid bravery impressed bruce, regardless if it it was for entirely unselfish reasons on jack's part or if it was genuinely out of care for tim" i then say "i also think this would have moved bruce, emotionally, figuratively, poetically, sexually WOAH"

we all know that canonically when bruce falls in love or becomes even slightly interested in someone, he goes STUPID and impulsive. he's sending jack rare artefacts and really specific gifts and throwing galas with the sole purpose of inviting jack all without even considering that is actually not a normal response to have after someone threatens to kill you. perhaps he doesn't even realise this is something more than just paranoid obsession, and he tries to rationalise it like "i'm only trying to convince him to come with me to the museum so i can work out what kind of person he is in casual date settings and also to kiss him WAIT"

this one is funny if jack is just not interested at all and he's like okay what the fuck what kind of mind games is this guy trying to pull. tim is your mentor trying to tell me something through the purchase of these front seat opera house tickets and tim is like i can't believe this is real life i hope this is all a nightmare this can't be happening to me. bruce is hopelessly infatuated and jack is like don't think i won't file a restraining order against you BATMAN.

or it can get funnier if jack is like I WONT FALL FOR YOUR SEDUCTION TECHNIQUES BATMAN (proceeds to fall for batman's seduction techniques).

bonus alfred is actively praying on jacks downfall (canon) and is experiencing war flashbacks when bruce begins to display lovesick behaviour

3. doomed by the narrative

now as you may have noticed most of these work before the bright red alarm that is JACK DRAKE'S TRAGIC DEATH. his death in and of itself is already so sad, because he was changing, he was better and tim was so close to having everything he wanted, and jack was truly hopeful to be present and good to his son.

if we now throw in the mix of this shortlived romance, wherein canon bruce is already swamped with guilt about janet's death and feels as though he OWES it to tim to save jack as well, it becomes all the more heartbreaking. i would actually change nothing about how it happened in canon. jack still leaves that phone call for tim, tim and bruce still race to get to him, tim still finds his father's dead body and bruce still holds tim away from the corpse.

because the best part about this potential relationship is that it is born from the shared want to look after tim. it's what connects them and what causes any sort of interaction between them. so even at this point, bruce's first priority is tim, because it will always be tim first, but also because that is what jack would have wanted from him.

just another love for bruce to hide in his heart, let it consume and damage him, let it make him colder and harder to approach, another layer on this already unbreakable foundation. it probably causes problems between tim and bruce, for the sake of mourning but not reacting and simply because loss can make people very unkind. bruce's guilt is now more than just what he already feels for somehow failing tim, but also for not being able to save someone he loves, again.

OR jack lives au and bruce is even MORE obsessed and insufferable about it and tim literally has to help his own dad break out of the manor because batman is holding jack hostage (bedrest for almost dying).

or we have our obligatory bruce wayne "I almost lost you, so now im going to push you away for both our sake" arc to which Jack drake probably threatens to shoot bruce again and then they do it silly HAPPY ENDING EVERYONE GO HOME

Idk if youve answered this before sorry if you have lol but what is your stance on jason and romance/romantic partners hes paired with? personally im an aroace jason truther and im not fond of most romantic ships he gets roped into but outside of personal hcs its mostly how his romantic relationships are written that makes me so critical of them. rosejay writing imo can be something SO heinous it makes me upset for them as characters

i actually don’t like any of jason’s canon relationships except for rena to be honest (they were adorable). all of his other canon relationships fall...very flat. jason's fast to care about people, but that's true for all people, not just those he might be romantically interested in. so far, no canon relationship has done anything to earn my interest in him and the other character being lovers as opposed to friends. none of the writers have ever quite managed to justify to me why certain characters become love interests.

isabel, for example, could have been a fun character she quite literally only exists as a love interest. and jason's interest stemmed in her from...she's pretty? i suppose? i was biased against this pairing from the start because the idea that jason could start a relationship on that casual a premise makes me laugh, personally. i think he needs time to realize he loves people, sorry. he can be charming and like people instantly, but he's also not normal enough to attempt at casual relationships so that's meaningless when it comes to romance.

it's a different problem with artemis because her and jason do get to know each other before anything romantic happens...but the lead up could not have lacked in chemistry more severely than it did. it felt like they got together because boy and girl who are really close.

jayrose is one of my least hated canon jason ships and it has nothing to do with how they're written, i just appreciate them being on panel together sometimes (and other times i can't even appreciate that lol). but again, this goes back to: why a love interest and not a friend? what about this relationship justifies that dynamic? what about it is more compelling if it is a romantic relationship rather than a friendship? because they have done nothing to convince me. i don't care if they've been married or if they kiss on panel. what does a romantic relationship with each other do for either of these characters? because so far, it hasn't made them grow or challenged them in any way that's fair to their characters.

Note; Aaah, I really love Robbie's and Ithaqua's dynamic! The idea that the two of them would be like siblings to one another really warms my heart. 🥹 I was unsure of whether you wanted just headcanons or a scenario at first, so I ended up writing it as a scenario! Enjoy! 🫶

♡ Ithaqua views Robbie as a younger brother, one who never seems to leave him be. Robbie is a bit clingy, and it took Ithaqua some time to adjust to the young boy’s antics and his fondness for him. He doesn’t mind though, and instead finds it endearing whenever the child would come sprinting to him after a match. ”Can’t you believe it? I got all of them!" Robbie exclaimed, prancing around Ithaqua like a rabbit. The older hunter would congratulate the boy with a pat on the shoulder each time, offering him a piece of candy from his pockets. “Oh, really? Good job!”

♡ Practically everywhere the older hunter went, Robbie would often linger. Sometimes he’d hide behind the tall hunter, peeking behind his legs with a giggle. Ithaqua would humor the young boy from time to time, indulging in the games the boy would offer to play. And in turn, if the boy wins he is rewarded a piece of candy that he would often carry. It was certainly endearing for all the hunters to witness, a lovely sibling-like bond between the two.

♡ Albeit, it was all fun and games until one particular evening. The two of you were on a stroll in the manor’s garden, hand in hand. You both planned to meet at the garden a week prior, never actually having the time to spend time together due to matches, the two of you finally had time to relish in each other’s presence. There weren’t many places to go in the manor that would be a decent place to spend time with one another, the garden was the only place you two had in mind due to the outset of spring. Suddenly, the hunter was stopped in his tracks by a small pair of arms wrapped around his legs.

♡ A youthful voice called out his name with enthusiasm, taking the hunter aback. The two of you glanced down to face the boy who was ecstatic to behold the both of you together at once. “Robbie? What are you doing awake at this time?” “I can’t sleep!” You couldn’t help but chuckle at their interaction, how’d the young hunter would always find his way to Ithaqua never ceases to ignite a warm flame in your heart.

♡ Robbie spoke of his inability to rest and explained his desire to play, but Ithaqua couldn’t help but shake his head out of concern on behalf of the young boy. He’d pick up the child who held his hands up high after the two of you agreed to accompany him for the night as long as the boy eventually rests. Ithaqua carried Robbie on his shoulders, one hand supporting the child whilst his other hand held yours. The three of you admired the blooming rose bushes that were stained with droplets of fresh rain from the morning rainfall. The young hunter would chat away, speaking about his recent matches. He reminisced over a pack hunter match he shared with Ithaqua, how he got struck by a pallet but Ithaqua incapacitated the survivor on his behalf.

♡ Robbie spoke of the older hunter in such a brilliant light, waving his arms in the air characteristically. It was rather endearing, leaving a comforting feeling of warmth in your chest. Over time, the young boy silenced, eliciting a yawn. There was a shared moment of silence, the three of you standing underneath the faint rays of moonlight. When you raised your head to face Ithaqua, Robbie had his arms wrapped around the older hunter, resting atop his shoulders. “Seems like he tuckered himself out, did he?” Ithaqua lightly nodded his head, leisurely removing his mask. He raised a finger to his lips, hushing you.

♡ You both decided to head back inside to set the boy to rest. You carefully creaked the door open, there were no words exchanged between the two of you in consideration of the sleeping boy. Ithaqua gently settled Robbie upon his twin-sized bed, tenderly swaddling the child in bundles of woolen blankets. You stood at the doorstep with a smile, knowing the day had finally concluded has left you with a bittersweet taste on your lips when the blonde brushed his lips against yours after tucking the boy to rest. "Goodnight.”

5: what was your character's dream job as a kid? is it different than what their career ended up being?

Dirge definitely didn't dream of being a cult leader as a kid, until he was indoctrinated by a cult and told to desire that. When he lived with his parents, he was young enough to have NO idea what they did for a living, only that they weren't always there at the same time because of "work". He spent most of his days being doted on and playing so he wasn't really exposed to a lot of different career ideas beforehand. If you asked baby Dirge what he'd want to do when he grew up he'd probably tell you that he wants to hang around animals all day, since he really liked them.

In no time period did he ever expect to be a trophy husband with helpful hobbies. You maybe could have convinced him on the circumstantial adventurer bit, teenage Dirge would have been confused but understanding of the cult leader thing, but arm candy for an exiled drow paladin was just too out there for him.

His mom could've predicted it though.

15: who is your OC’s best friend?

I'm so proud of my antisocial introverted little freak cuz he has FOUR. This one ended up SO long im intervening and slapping a readmore on it. Have fun!

Karlach is the first one he thinks of because they are silly4silly and had a brief FWB situation. She means the world to him and was a major influence in Dirge moving out of his survival mindset/nihilism+death cult habit into genuinely appreciating being alive.

Astarion is also one of his best friends. They matched each others energies very early on and Dirge consistely refused to entertain Astarion's suave manipulator persona in the slightest, instead treating it as an over the top dramatic role they were both playing. His blunt, nonjudgemental, casual approach cut through a lot of Astarion's pomp and circumstance and build the foundations for a genuine appreciation and fondness (that eventually shifted away from sexual into purely platonic), and in return Astarion is one of the few people who consistently notices and points out Dirge's heavily concealed emotional issues and poorly repressed traumas. Theres a lot of broad overlap in their experiences, the loss of autonomy and the sexual trauma it carried with it, and Astarion is almost always the first to clock it. Because of that, Dirge will be open with Astarion about fears and vulnerabilities he keeps even from Minthara (not out of a purposeful desire to keep her out of the loop; Dirge needs a lot of pressing to open up about his Urge related vulnerabilities. Astarion knows how and when to press because Dirge employs similar avoidance tactics he does. Astarion also clocks what Dirge needs to be pressed on and what to let lie. With Minthara, Dirge wants to emphasize his independence and autonomy, instead of coming off as helpless or weak in the face of dangers that could threaten Minthara's life, and make a point of specifically targeting her.) Beyond just a mutual acknowledgement of trauma, they're both messy GNC bi/pan gossip fiends with weird eccentric ideas of hedonism. I'm sure there was talk of the viability of orgies in a heated blood jacuzi at least once with them.

His third bestie is Shadowheart! Dirge rescues her twice over, first the Nautiloid and then the beach, and they rely on each other for survival next to immediately. Their relationship is a lot closer to familial, and Dirge is very teasing with her and vice versa. There was a brief hint of romance extremely early on, but it died fairly quick in favor of their current dynamic. Dirge was INCREDIBLY nosy about Shadowheart and her life, but never really pushed it, so despite her fondness for secrets she ended up indulging him anyways about it. Similar to Astarion, shes also a gossip fiend, but not nearly as weird. She almost definitely clocks that Dirge isn't nearly as cisgender as he avoids thinking he is, and they spend a lot of time chatting while Dirge braids her hair or Shadowheart helps reapply his eyeshadow+mascara.

His fourth bestie is Isobel. They hit it off p well in Last Light Inn, successfully fending off Marcus. Theres a brief bit (all headcanon ofc) where Jaheira checks on the other Harpers, while the party assesses the damage, and Dirge is left alone with Isobel. Alone in an isolated room without any witnesses, everyone too far away to stop him, its almost too much, and as is his habit by now, Dirge confesses his near overwhelming Urge to murder her so she can safeguard herself from him. But instead, Isobel is the first person to distinguish the Urge as something that is not indicative of Dirge himself. Even as it makes the Urge roil and seethe, she reassures him that this isn't what he wants. Its just the push he needs to fully repress it, and just like that the Urge is as meek and tamed as a beaten dog. And Isobel notices, and notices immediately. "There you are. The real you." Its more acknowledgement than Dirge ever recalls getting before. And he immediately decides he likes her for it.

Even though he isn't aware of it at the time, Dirge IS a godspawn, and personally I just believe Isobel has a habit of unintentionally drawing them to her, owing to her deep connection to divinity through her identity as a cleric. Not to say Isobel is built different but she kind of is. So Dirge is just unconsciously drawn to her presence, and Isobel has a soothing effect on him. Beyond that, the two of them just fall into an easy affection, as natural as breathing. I dont think Isobel is nearly as cut and dry Sunshine and Roses as she seems to be, and I think Dirge is the only person shes comfortable expressing a dry, morbid sense of humor around. Theres a selfish desire for friendship there, also. Dirge is Evil, and he never stops being evil, he just adjusts his behavior. But despite knowing this, Isobel selfishly wants to stay around him anyways. Shes lost so much and has so little now, she WANTS someone besides Aylin to be around, to talk to, especially because there are parts of her she cant express around Aylin, out of respect for her trauma. But theres a rot inside her that wont leave, a patchwork plethora of scars that wont fade, and a burning rotten world lit only by the faint light of the moon, and sometimes its all so ridiculous she cant help but want to laugh. But who else would laugh with her? The bhaalspawn scion of murder who once sought to kill the world, thats who. And shes loathe to give that up.

Beyond the initial connection and selfish desire to maintain it, they just have a very easy casual vulnerability with each other. Isobel can read Dirge like an open book, and quickly clocks that he isn't nearly as complicated as he seems to be. She's never once scared of him, teasing him easily and freely and enjoying a casual level of physical affection, and even when he postures and threatens in response, he doesn't mean it or he wouldn't say it. Theres a mix of sillyness, vulnerability, and casual platonic love, owing both to the lengths Dirge goes through to finish Ketheric and reunite her with Aylin, and a shared trauma of violated autonomy. Dirge is the one who pulled Isobel from her tomb, and Dirge is the one who prepared her body for resurrection. The memory comes suddenly upon seeing Isobel's autopsy scars (a headcanon i live and breathe by), hot on the heels of learning the origins of his own autopsy scars, and Isobel doesn't have to push very hard to make him haltingly explain the memory he just recollected.

Ever since she awoke, Isobel has been haunted by the knowledge that someone fished her out of death and stuffed her back into her own corpse. She imagines her father, trying to resurrect a parody of his daughter, one who didnt need the other half of her soul locked away in the Shadowfell. She imagines Balthazar, his cold cynical objectifying hands, clammy and cruel and devoid of care. It sickens her. She avoids thinking of it. But she needs to know, to stop imagining and try to move past it. Dirge emphasizes his responsibility. Doesnt make excuses or minimizes. The guilt is palpable. But nonetheless, a scene crystallizes perfectly in her mind. The Scion of Bhaal, driven to kill and murder, delicately peeling away the skin deep mask to see the person underneath. Mournful and full of regret already. He knows the violation hes enabling. He hates it even now. He cant ask her consent, or explain the necessity he feels. He can only cut away the rot to make way for something new. Seeing her. Thinking of her. Not as a symbol, or as a tool. A person. Someone with thoughts and feelings, who will wake up and breathe and bleed and live. Someone who is looking at Isobel Thorm, not the lost daughter or the tool to end the world, but her. This whole time, the person who gave her a second life, was thinking about her and what shed do with it and how he sacrificed everything he believed in for her, and how badly he wished he could tell her, talk to her, explain to her. He gave her back Aylin. He ended the legacy of her father, the wight he became and the curse he spewed forth. He gave Isobel back her life and then gave her a reason to live it. Hearing him talk, thinking even now of the person behind the cleric, thinking even still of her and what shed want, the rot finally starts to loosen. He thinks its only fair he tells her about Kressa, even as she protests, but its not like she got to choose for him to know this about her. Its the least he can do for her. Autonomy violated, bodies desecrated, Isobel and Dirge always, always, see the person behind the god. They can't help but love each other for it.

Best friends indeed.

24: how does your OC handle death of someone they know?

Badly. Despite being a harbinger of death, Dirge isn't actually equipped for grief. He's never had to grieve before, and no ones ever shown him how or how to get through it. He was indoctrinated out of grieving his parents, and had no loved ones outside the temple until meeting Gortash. He doesn't know how it works or what to do about it, and is forced to try and make do.

Hes going to live forever. He knows this. Its hard to fully grok though, because hes always danced on the knifes edge. But the edge is dulled and stable now, and his feet no longer threaten to slip. Theres a home with a garden, the evenings are quiet, and no screams fill the night air. He is going to live forever. And so few others will. Its part of why Isobel insists on keeping in contact with him. In much the same way Aylin is adjusting to life as a person, and not a holy sword, Dirge needs the guidance and experience Aylin can give him on what eternity looks like. Astarion also. But the others? They will wither and fade. Theres no engine that will make Karlach eternal.

He wont force it onto anyone. If its their desire to grow old and die, Dirge will respect it, and fight like hell to ensure it comes to pass. But the thought of it is sad, and lonely. Minthara, at least, seeks to stand beside him until eternity takes them both. The others arent so keen. He hasn't quite figured out how to mourn yet. His grief for Orin is clumsy and awkward, full of regret. It feels like even in her passing, hes still overshadowing her with his own feelings of loss. Despite knowing where shes gone to. What awaits her. He avoids thinking of Gortash. What Bane is subjecting him to. Tries to ignore the parts of him that want to snatch him away from it all. Tries not to be selfish. Its hard, because grief is a starving, selfish thing, and there is so much to mourn, so much to bury. The person he used to be. The people that man loved. The life he wanted for himself. Grief is always looking inward, and eating itself just for a sensation that isnt numb.

It never gets easier, even with practice. The world gets a little smaller, a little dimmer. He never quite knows what to say, what to do. Its just this awkward lump he cant figure out how to carry. He wouldnt put it down for the world. He loves too much for that. It just weighs him down, more and more. Thats just how he loves someone who cant feel it anymore.

out of curiosity, do you have any notes on your discontinued stories?

i don't! pretty much all of my discontinued fics were done prior to me using outlines, so what you see on ao3 is literally all i wrote for the fic. that's why they're all discontinued! i didn't think about those fics much outside of the current chapter i was working on, which made it harder to return to them when my interest waned.

all of my currently active fics have outlines and hefty notes sections, especially in regards to cheek to the wall and fluffy clouds. thats part of how i know i won't drop those fics, bc i just have so much stuff to look at if i need inspo in the future.

BUT! i can give a rough synopsis of thoughts i vaguely had for a few of my discontinued fics. whether or not i remember everything is up to fate though. also disclaimer that i wrote Every Single One of these fics while i was still in high school/same year i graduated so i include my feelings on how i would write them differently now that im like. an adult.

really not much to say. the only future thoughts i had were literally having kenzo beat the shit out of her dad with his own baseball bat and with her own hands

feinting on your blind side:

jane would have lived happily ever after with bull. no sadness. honestly i consider my au of the chargers dying to be my internal canon, if only because it's actually finished. in a case where the chargers Don't Die, jane is just there along for the ride

really not sure if i love the age gap i wrote for these two. probably would have made her older now, even if part of their dynamic was jane's fear and inexperience with the world around her, that doesn't require her to be 21-23(? i don't remember)

characterization wise i don't think it's correct to assume bull would enter a serious relationship with someone younger than dorian. i think hook ups are different, but the sheer level of inexperience jane has would probably make him push her towards people closer to her age, like krem. for sure he could be fond of her, but he is old enough to be her father. like. her proper, normally aged father.

solas dynamic was crazy in this fic i literally think jane's anxiety about him gave me major anxiety while writing. i don't think i understood dai's companions as well when i wrote the fic, but i do think if i wrote it now i would flesh out solas and jane's dynamic much more.

also side note jane should not have gotten away with smart mouthing vivienne in this fic idk what i was on. i love you vivienne but you have never suffered fools and worse suffered a SERVANT talking back to your face and saying the circles are evil

one of the few justified moments of jane's anxiety was fearing viv's retribution cause girl i would be scared too

i wish i had written her as older, because i felt like there was the chance for a more interesting dynamic with brynjolf. i think i was just too young when i was writing artists and dragons to consider more serious topics like sexual relationships and SA (both very lightly touched on in fic due to their sensitive nature and my being a teenager with no idea how to even approach that)

honestly there is a non-zero chance i rewrite this fic with an older tera and more outlining in the future, because i still like the concept. my skill level has increased and i dislike the fast pacing of the fic. (ie tera and her companions all sharing a bed after knowing each other a month max in fic. so weird. it had been 5 months of writing so it had felt longer to me)

brynjolf would have figured out tera was under daedric influence after becoming a nightingale, due to a inherent Sense for when someone else is a daedric worshiper etc etc

the dragonborn would have used tera's information to find information she otherwise wouldn't have had access to

maria would have won her games at great personal loss. the entire 11-12 alliance would have maintained itself as long as it could. 12's boy would die first, then 11's girl, then at the end of the game it would have been 11's boy and maria.

11's boy would be injured critically and maria would have held him until he died.

maria probably would have had a kill count of 3(?), all careers. augustus (the original winner of the games) would have died by her hands. really impressive considering he is jacked as shit

maria would become the youngest winner ever, swiftly dethroning finnick after like 2 years(?) of him breaking the last record (jesus why did i write her like that thats so fucking horrifying)

you can imagine how poorly that goes for her in extremely unsavory ways. due to her willingness to offer herself to save a stranger she didn't know very well it would be very easy for president snow to keep her in line.

this fic would have been much darker in tone if i wrote it now and much less obnoxious about underage drinking. i was in highschool when i wrote it and had never drank or been drunk before, as you can probably tell.

im admittedly a little curious as well as to how joel and ellie's relationship is going to be explored in season 2 and how it's going to differ from the game. obviously the dynamic between show joel and ellie isnt the same as that between game joel and ellie, which i generally do think is a good thing as it fends off some of the accusations of redundancy, but there are definitely some aspects of the show where it feels like they took away certain traits from the game and didnt really add anything in their place.

one element from the game that im fond of is joel's terms of endearment that he uses for ellie. he calls her "babygirl," the nickname which he used for sarah, only in the first game when he pulls her off of david's corpse and off of the operating table- both very dire circumstances wherein he's been forced to reckon with the idea of losing her and must acknowledge that he views her as another daughter whom he cant afford to lose. however, he also calls her "kiddo" at several points throughout the first and second games, using it initially at the university before he's fully come to terms with the fact that he considers her his daughter. it's a sweet nickname and i think that it serves a couple purposes: it differentiates her from sarah while still affirming that he loves her as her own person, and its usage in the second game helps to drive home that the two of them are at least temporarily safe and joel no longer has a reason to fear for her life.

in the show, there's only the one scene where joel calls ellie "babygirl," and "kiddo" isnt a part of their dynamic. im wondering if theyre gonna have joel use it at all in the second season (since it gets used in almost every scene featuring both him and ellie) or if they're going to scrap it and introduce some other part of their dynamic. it feels at least somewhat relevant to me because i think that joel's conceptualization of his daughters in how he processes his grief is a big part of the differences in characterization between the game and the show. both are plagued by guilt and are desperate to suppress their grief, but while show joel is wracked with terror and unable to escape reminders of what could have been, game joel makes himself deliberately unfeeling and lashes out at anything that comes too close to reminding him of sarah. show joel seems more indebted to his memory of sarah and fears anything that might threaten it, while game joel separates himself from the father he once was and attempts to leave that part of his life closed off. therefore, by the respective ends of the story, their acknowledgment of their care for ellie feels slightly different. show joel never really abandoned his role as a father, he just learns to accept that it can accommodate ellie as well. game joel is able to accept that he Is a father and thus his care for ellie helps him to address and resolve his grief for sarah.

i think that these differences are also reflected in joel's relationship with tommy, which im interested to see play out in season 2. similar to how he doesnt stray as far away from his role as a father, show joel was not as severely estranged from his brother as game joel was- his goal at the beginning of the show is to contact tommy, he's insistent that "you keep going for family" in the car with ellie, his reunion with tommy is punctuated by a vulnerable breakdown instead of the tense fight we see in the game. i find it interesting that, judging from the trailer, joel's "i saved her" in the show is said to a therapist instead of to tommy as it is in the game. tommy being joel's audience in the game, i think, serves to show their relationship being rekindled and the fierce desire to protect their loved ones that they share, as emphasized by tommy noting that if he was in joel's position in the hospital he would have done the same thing. in the show, the starting point of their relationship is not quite so tenuous as it is in the game, and maria's pregnancy gives tommy other familial obligations to draw his focus. this makes me wonder if he's still going to end up walking the same path he does in the game, or if theyre going to take a different direction with his character. a lot remains to be seen but im hoping that theyre actually going to do justice to the differences in characterization that theyve established and make the characters fulfilling .
