I made a post on Reddit titled "Hot take but I feel like many if not most Stolitz antis are either homophobic or just hypocrites" and I even had to clarify at the end that not all Stolitz antis are like that. Cue the replies harassing me, taking it as a personal attack on them and making baseless accusations about me. One of them even sarcastically said "Anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and bigoted" as a way to make fun of me. I never said anything remotely similar to that. I don't think they bothered to actually read past the title where I explained that Stolas and Blitzø meeting as children is compared to a bad fanfic when that never gets said about straight couples in media who met as children and that people who hate Stolitz for what it is now only tolerated it when it was just a running gag, as if they can't stand it when gay relationships are being taken seriously. Like, it's not that different from female characters who get hate while the same people shitting on her praise fictional men who are worse or do the same shit. There are clear double standards here. These people turn around and praise cishet media with very similar writing, characters and tropes as Helluva Boss. And not only that, but it's not even just about their relationship specifically. Like, I have a theory that the whole controversy about Stolas being an "abusive" father is because of the stereotype that queer people can't be good parents. And the whole "child and parent have conflict but make up in the end" trope happens in fiction all time (example: Danny Tanner, Jeff Morales, Doofenshmirtz, ect.) Weird how it only became abuse and neglect with Stolas and Via.

Some people are blantly saying they wanted stolitz to "stay a joke", and it feels obvious to me that a lot of them just like queer characters who are queer in a goofy "dark humor" way and not an actual character with queer struggles and/or queer relationships.

AITA for having double standards in my relationship?

Title sounds bad but hear me out. I (F27) am in a relationship with O (M26). We’ve been dating for nearly 2 years now, and for maybe 1.5 years of that we’ve had what we call our “arrangement”. Basically, I had a couple of friends with benefits before I started dating O, and one of them (Y, M29) made some comments to O at a party while I wasn’t around. It wasn’t very nice stuff, implying what I was like in bed, and O and I ended up leaving the party early.

When we got to O’s house, O told me about the stuff Y was saying. I thought he was accusing me of cheating, which was not the case—I hadn’t seen Y or any of my other FWBs since O and I started dating. It turns out O wasn’t worried about that, and we actually ended up taking for a while. I won’t get into it too much, but basically O liked the idea of me being with other people (that’s a very simplified version of the conversation). So our arrangement started, after Y apologized, which he did the next time he saw us, where basically I would still sleep with my FWBs and then, by O’s request, tell him about it.

It sounds like an open relationship, but this next part is where I think I may be TA. O doesn’t sleep around, only I do. It’s not that I don’t LET him (though I know myself well enough that I would probably get jealous), it’s just another part of the arrangement we both agreed on. I check in with O pretty regularly, like once a month, to see that we’re still on the same page, and he’s never expressed that he wants to open up his side of the relationship so to speak.

Everyone involved gets tested regularly, that’s not a concern, and O and my FWBs get along pretty well (we’re all part of the same major friend group). I don’t only sleep with them because O wants me to, but I would also stop if he asked me to, if that makes sense. But when I was telling one of my close friends about our arrangement, she said I was being hypocritical for “not allowing” O to sleep with other people while I was allowed to. I thought she just didn’t understand at first, especially because every time I’ve talked to O about it he’s been totally fine with how our arrangement is (he was even the one to bring up the idea in the first place!).

But lately I’ve been thinking about how O isn’t the best at openly talking about what is working and what isn’t in our relationship - it’s almost always me bringing things up, or another part of our arrangement that lets him say what he needs without outright saying it (sorry if that’s confusing, I don’t want to get too into the details). I’ve also been thinking about my own jealousy at the thought of him being with other people and how that’s probably unfair considering he doesn’t feel that way about me being with other people.

IDK. Maybe I’m overthinking it, or maybe I’m being hypocritical. So, tumblr, AITA?

I actually don´t think there´s much to "separate" here because it´s really just one massive inferno that will burn you alive if you step too close. Vampiric rage, especially when it comes to their mate/chosen one, is a force to be reckoned with because it´s blind to everything else. It´s uncontrollable and doesn´t differentiate between friend or foe. Anyone who stands between them and their mate becomes an enemy.

That counts for the Cullens as well, of course. No matter which universe.

Yknow, it´s kinda funny you mention the Cullens in the context of kidnapping someone because I do have some plans for them in The Sisters that may or may not involve MC getting "removed" from her current situation and moved to somewhere else instead. 😏

'Why do you love rika. I love rika myself as well. Tbh for me its like, the more I stay in mysme fandom the more my love and appreciation for rika grows. It initially started as me being angry at the double standards of the most asian media fandoms in general cuz i realised that rika would have been more well loved if she was a man, people would use the male!rika's trauma to justify his actions and this thought has made me angry and made me "appreciate" rika out of spite. But it eventually has grown into a genuine appreciation for her. Thank you for the question, dear anon! I'm always giddy to chitchat about these things. I do want to prelude this by saying that this is not really a proper analysis, but more of me just writing out my personal feelings. I might try my hand at actual analysis one day, but, for now, I'm just sharing my own interpretations!

Mystic Messenger is probably the only fandom I have been in since... well, since it has formed, basically. It's wild to think about sometimes. Things are very different in our little space now, compared to how it was before. Public perception of Rika is one of those things. I can totally resonate with your frustrations on that front, unfortunately. I know many folks miss the time when the fandom was bigger, but... personally, I don't. Especially as a Rika fan. It was borderline exhausting trying to curate your fandom space as a Rika fan at the time. Hell, we had full blogs dedicated to solely hating on her, a fictional character, and people who expressed their love for her. And that's just here on Tumblr. People used to full on write hate comments under every single seasonal CG with Rika in it. It was terrible, and very, very disheartening to see. Especially since most Rika fans I've met over the years are the sweetest people. Granted, there is a case to be made for practically every mm character, and how the fandom may have misinterpreted them in one way or another, so it's not just a Rika problem. Just that she was majorly disliked.

If anything, I'm very happy Cheritz still continued to include Rika in the seasonal events despite it all. Props to them on that front.

Right now, thankfully, things are much more peaceful and respectful. Rika is definitely not the more popular character, but now you can openly express your love for her in the fandom space, without fear of being harassed. I'd say that's a great win for us!

That being said, as to why I love Rika... Hm, it's interesting to put it into words. I didn't have a strong opinion on her until V's route came out. I never really shared the collective hatred of her, but I didn't love her either, you know? V's route came out during a pretty rough patch in my life, and I think that helped me get personally invested in what it had to tell. Rika actually feels like a fleshed out character with many nuances, and that instantly made me interested in paying close attention to what they wanted to do with her.

Rika is complicated, to say the least. She always was, but, with all the added content to her story that Cheritz have put out over the years, her complexity only evolved further. I love that about her. I love morally dubious characters who's mind you have to carefully study and pick apart piece by piece in order to understand them. I love how she is not really a villain in a traditional sense. She is not actively pursuing harm on anybody, not in her eyes. It is fascinating to me how different her view point is, compared to those around her. How skewed her perception of the world around her grows over the years. It's both scary and captivating.

So, it started with fascination. Appreciation for her character and a desire to delve deeper into what makes her who she is today. I think... my appreciation has grown into love when her Behind Story came out. I know many folks have very complicated feelings towards it, especially since it came out alongside V's After End and its unfortunate push for forgiveness, but I never really viewed Cheritz establishing Rika's past as an attempt to wash her of her sins. It just came out at a very bad timing is all. If her Behind Story came out a bit later, I think public opinion of it would have been different. It's a shame that their huge mess up with the message in V's After Ending sabotaged it like that.

Thing is, Rika wouldn't be as compelling and interesting as she is, if she was truly innocent. That being said, I... relate to her struggles on a deeply personal level. Not as deeply as I do with Saeran, but her story and her struggles do make me choke up to this day. Because, in a way, I see my past self in her. Being able to read through her story, her thoughts, and her feelings have really made me form a genuine fondness to her. Her religious trauma, her painful path of learning to survive in an environment that actively tries to harm you at every possibility, her fears of being the devil everyone says she is, her inability to accept and love herself, because all she has ever known is pain, danger and hatred... It hurts. I think, everyone has that little voice inside their head. Telling them that they are bad and undeserving of the love people close to them are expressing. That everyone actually hates them. That there is something inherently wrong with them. It's heartbreaking that, in Rika's case, this voice has eventually consumed her to the point of no return.

When you are an abused child, who knows nothing but the hostile world they have at home, it will follow you into every crook and cranny of your life. Even when you're not home, even when you're 'safe', your mind and body will still be on high alert, as it's natural to try and keep yourself safe from harm. Rika's fear of the world around her, her deep inner self-hatred is something I have experienced as an abused child/young teen. It's debilitating, and it's heartwrenching to think that so many people have to suffer like this.

I think the beauty of her story to me is the sheer tragedy of it. It's a tough pill to swallow, but people are not born evil. She has done horrible, immoral and unforgivable things, and yet, in some twisted sense, her heart was not filled with malice as she did so. She believed she was saving Saeran, she believed she was providing her believers the safety and love they couldn't get elsewhere, she believed she was trying to show her old friends the truth by taking them to her side. Of course, none of those things are actually true. Her real intentions were selfish, albeit not evil. A desperation to be loved and not abandoned. That dichotomy is both beautiful and tragic to me. (Some of these are very bad quality bc I can't screenshot stuff right now)

Of course, there's also the whole V/Rika debacle. Personally, I never put all of the responsibility onto either one of them. That takes away the beautiful tragedy of their shared bond. V - or, Jihyun - genuinely cares deeply for her. He is heartbroken at all the suffering he sees her go through during his route. Of course, it's not just his care for Rika at play, but we're not talking about him right now. While, for Rika, he was her only anchor, her light, the one person who saw the real her and accepted her instead of forsaking her. At least that's what she thought. Rika and V are two very hurt and troubled individuals who have met each other at the worst possible time. And that makes it so sad to me. Neither him nor Rika truly wanted to harm one another. Whether there was any romantic love between them or not, they did care for one another deeply. Too deeply, even. Clinging to one another in order to satiate the emptiness they had inside, each in their own toxic way. It was not healthy. But it was genuine.

And I love tragic bonds, be it romantic or not. There is something compelling about two people who do want the best for one another just causing more harm than good. It's also painfully truthful. Not to such an extreme, but the struggle of doing what's best with no direction is one many can relate to.

I guess, to conclude this all, I'd say I love Rika for her complexity most of all. There are so many layers to her, and her story is truly a heartbreaking one to behold. But, God, is it beautiful, too.

Also, may I just add, her voice actress is absolutely amazing? She puts her all into playing Rika, and her story wouldn't be as moving if it wasn't for her breathtaking work. Her voice acting made me cry a whole lot of times.

It frustrates us seeing the anti-endo appropriation claim on this site of all places.

The first time we ever saw tulpas as a concept was Supernatural. I can't find resources on it, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if the folks on /x/ and /mlp/ got the idea from media like Supernatural. And with how much this site loves that extremely appropriative show, it's frustrating how hypocritical that feels (ofc the site is big and anti-endos may hate the fandom too).

Idk, there's been this nagging feeling that the association between tulpamancy and Buddhism is entirely born out of orientalist pop culture skipping theosophists to sensationalize tulpas. A sense that, had Supernatural and X-files and all the others not called it a Buddhist practice, few if any tulpamancers would have.

Do you happen to have any documentation on how the early community came upon the terms? Does this hypothesis have any backing or evidence to the contrary?

Yeah, tulpamancy probably had more to do with portrayals in pop culture and media like X-Files and Supermatural than actual Buddhists practices. I could be wrong on that being the roots, of course. I think @cambriancrew might know more about it and be able to help you with documentation since they've been around long than I have.

Either way, it's notable how they only target a relatively niche community with these sorts of attacks while ignoring mass media portrayals.

Even recently, some of the top tulpamancy videos on Youtube have tens of thousands of views. But The Mandela Catalogue with its horror tulpas has videos with millions of views.

There isn't a similar outrage over this, just as there wasn't for the Supernatural or X-Files tulpas, nor the countless creepy pasta tulpas.

It certainly feels like, when people only care about the term tulpa being used when it's used by created systems, it's the created systems who are the problem more than the terminology.

Anyhow, I would also like to add a crack theory about why otto never talked about his dp allowing him to talk to infants too. In this moment, it very much be because, as you said, he wants Spica to be eliminated. But! We're thinking small here. My question morphs into a more general perspective; why would Otto, and tappei to an extent, keep such information about his dp under wraps for this long, way before these Spica shenanigans? And I feel like the author may want to expand on that regard. Because as far as the rest of the crew knows (and as far as I remember), they know he can only talk to animals. But that chapter states he can talk to any living being (?), which I think may hint to it being a bigger fucking deal than we may realize. Like outside the Louis development, as well as Otto's frustration development, this power in of itself can cause a ripple of what Otto's capabilities are, and to not underestimate it.

So, now I wonder, would tappei utilize this tidbit for more development about Otto's power? What do you think?

Man all I wanted was some cute fanart of best kwami Plagg and ended up seeing a salt post about how he is a horrible monster for extincting the dinosaurs. The post at least acknowledged that Plagg feels remorse over it, but then doubles down on accusations that he doesn’t because of a stupid comment he made in Kwamis Choice about how Chloe should go the way of the dinosaurs, and we all KNOW that was written by Astruc to bash on Chloe and we shouldn’t take that seriously. And you know what! Plagg killing the dinosaurs was ultimately a good thing in the long run because it created optimal conditions for mammals to rise up humanity to evolve! And yeah, I saw that post, but I just ignored it. OP is entitled to their opinion, but I just disagree with them on that. One thing to remember is that Plagg killing all the dinosaurs is a joke. It's supposed to be funny. Maybe it's in poor taste, like Marinette's stalking or something, but ultimately, it's a joke and I am not going to take it seriously.

But if you really want to justify it, Plagg isn't a human who operates on human standards of morality, he's practically a god. He is literally destruction itself. And like you said, maybe dinosaurs needed to be destroyed for the "creation" of humanity, for the sake of balance or something? Idk. Like you said, it was kind of beneficial for us in the long run, as cold as that sounds.

And like, all the Kwamis do shit with their powers. Tikki created a giant galette that could have destroyed the world in Dearest Family, and the only reason it didn't happen is because Plagg and Adrien were there. And Trixx was apparently responsible for the Lochness Monster? I forget.

Kwami's Choice is completely OOC for Plagg. Whatever he may have done with his powers in the past, as of the present timeline, he's actually quite responsible with them. He's shown that he knows how to adapt to the morality of the time he's in, at least a little. It makes absolutely no sense for who he is as a character to offer to Cataclysm someone. I've better explained my thoughts on how bad Plagg's characterization in Kwami's choice was in this post, so feel free to check that out.

About your last anon, Max is actually hc as bi for most of the fandom, not gay. Elmax is a strong ship in the byler tag and so is elumax, which consists in Max, Lucas and El in a poli relationship. Bi people do exist, you know? A lot of bylers hc Mike as bi too, not gay.

What I think is interesting is that milevens are really okay with the ship Madwheeler (Mike and Max), even if Max is in a relationship and Mike is dating El. You don't see the amont of hate towards Madwheeler as you see with byler.

Yep, I feel like there's a lot of bi erasure going on in certain corners of the Mileven community. And I agree that LGBTQ+ ships definitely are affected by a double standard just because of how deeply ingrained homophobia is in society. There's definitely Milevens who aren't homophobic, some who don't mean to be homophobic but may be unconsciously, and some are explicitly. So yeah, I agree. I don't personally see Mike as bi, I think he's straight, but I understand why other people headcanon him differently.

maybe it's just me, but I feel like capcom feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with both aeon and ada since re6. like you said before, aeon is a conflict ship, and since re6 so much of that conflict has been brought down. if capcom cared about ending romances, the next leon and ada involved game or movie would probably be the place they would end it one way or another at least narratively logically speaking, so that's probably I think why we haven't gotten those two together in a game or movie since then besides the remakes. and as far as ada goes, I think they've written themselves in a corner with her in the original timeline because they can't put her in a game by herself without leon it seems without the majority of fans not being interested in it (her solo in umbrella chronicles). at least they haven't taken that chance with her character since then. so I'm hoping now that they're making a new timeline with the remakes and being more ballsy, they'll actually do something solo with ada and give her a bigger characterization. or at least let some of us in the writing room and we'll do it for them 😂

I would tend to agree with this for the most part. I don't think that it's impossible now to repurpose Ada's character and break her away from just Leon's story arc, but it's kind of at a point where, like... Dude, she's gonna be pushing 50 by the time RE9 hits.

I think the real reason why Ada hasn't come back is because Capcom is afraid to show her as being middle-aged -- that if she's "too old-looking" fans won't like her anymore. She was 38 in RE6, and that's probably about as far as they're going to go. Maybe -- maybe they'll be willing to show early 40s Ada if they think they can get away with it, but that is pushing it. And so, for that reason, I don't think we're ever going to see her in the modern storyline.

And that sucks. It's sexist and it's stupid and it sucks and I hate it, but a major part of Ada's character is, unfortunately, her sex appeal, and men are small-brained little creatures who think that women lose said sex appeal at 40 unless they go full MILF (or just stop aging entirely like Jill).

So I think Capcom is at a loss mostly because they probably feel like the end of Ada's story should be in a major-release title, but... RE8 is in 2020, and they're not going to pull a Devil May Cry and go backwards in the timeline for a numbered game. I just don't see that happening. So now they're kind of stuck because... time has passed and Ada has aged, and that's just the reality of things.

So... like... idk man. idk what they're gonna do. Because the sexist double-standard is real and there's 80% of the fandom just dying to see modern-day 46-year-old Leon so that they can call him Daddy and continue to treat him like the whore he is, so it's in Capcom's best interest from a business perspective to keep him around, so...

Honestly, the end of Ada's story and the end of Aeon may very well be a flashback or even just a file to be found in a game.

And I honestly don't know how I feel about that.

Because if they're going to keep Leon around but cut Ada out of the story... they might have to kill her. And I don't want that. I really don't want that to happen. And even if they don't kill her, like... she still deserves a better send-off than "something something it vaguely happened off-screen something something."

But Aeon as a ship was never tenable in the long-run, and RE6 set the groundwork for that pretty heavy-handedly in some of the files. So, do we really need another numbered title dedicated to this melodrama? I would say no. But, at the same time, is it right to put the conclusion of this story in a, say, Revelations 3? Or a CGI movie? ... Also no, probably.

It's just shitty. It's just fucking shitty and some fucker at Capcom needs to grow some fucking balls and give me 50-year-old Ada before I fly to Japan and start egging cars in the Capcom parking lot.

I love coloring, designing, and writing so much.

Doing these things keeps my mood so good, and happy. I 💖 it. I love being a creative! It's awesome. While I do get critical of my designs and writing, but I've made progress, and I can be super dedicated and passionate and happy accidents are reframed from what id normally view as a mistakes or id criticize it to where its no longer fun and happy.

I'm so thankful I was able to overcome and press onwards on my creativity journey, especially after i suffered with perfectionist times and burn out for the better part of 8 years. Only a decade ago I focused primarily on writing and creating passion projects as opposed to other things and I've become more driven and find myself loving and trusting the processes to come what may and everyday little chips away at the negatives and looking at the good and the positives. It's awesome I was able to do that and look at things differently. Even older projects I am less critical and look at it as it is, a journey, where the destination is eventually a thing but in the moment the present I'm focusing on the big picture and not getting overwhelmed. Although occasionally the little things make it worthwhile too, they're big parts of the puzzle of hodgepodge I call life. Like a variety pack of chocolates ,you never know. If anyone is feeling down or ultra critical just know that you never know until you start. Whatever you do my asvkce is to never criticize straight out the gate or downtqlk or downplay your dreams and ideas, even if they're mostly fantastical or unrealistic to you or others. You can find joy in that. It might not even look good to you at first but don't discount yourself, just get up and try again and maybe revisit and come back there is no shame in trying.

That being said, you ever said kind words about my creative projects and supported me on my various projects over the years, that is great, here is a giant thank you. It means so much, and I appreciate those words and positivity and support generally. ✨️

Also many thanks tumblr too for existing and giving me a place to be sharing and working with like minded folks. To me it's not a hellsite, but a outlet for me and others like me, or different from me to grow for the past decade plus and hopefully for many years to come. It took me a long time to get to this place, it took fails, false starts, therapy, comforting myself and kind words and even high spirited cracks qnd self criticisms to let go of my sometimes high expectations and standards I'd unrealistically set for myself. I was goddamn hard on myself. I was miserable and not even confident, and sometimes I'd discount myself and my skills or feel down or feel something was ugly even if it got notes or recognition I thought it was pity or a joke. I used to be and still can be sensitive too, that went hand in hand with my low esteem for myself and pettaining to myself. Idk why I thought it could be easy, a life in the creative realm but it's a double edged sword. The way I saw it I was preparing myself for crits. Hard-core crits that decimated my dreams initially and turned me into what I was. No more. I don't really like who I was then. I want to instil that to my friends here that failure isn't a measure of you as a human, you give up too easily or procrastinate? You are setting yourself up to feel the same on other things too.

Fot instance, I forced myself to uphold comparisons to help me, when it only hindered, and now I am at peace, finally. I wish I knew what I knew before, years ago in college fighting so hard, that one day I'd be at peace with myself, decisions, just because I failed once it's not my destiny or destination, it ain't over until it's over and to me it's only just begun.

@ the anon who sent an ask a little earlier, i dont think im going to post the ask- but the answer to your question of do i condone/support the topic you were asking about is a hard no. its not something i would ever write or read or want to engage with in any capacity. it makes me incredibly uncomfortable, and i think ought to be tagged/given a content warning for the sake of people like me who don't wish to consume that kind of thing.

and abt the fandom etiquette post, personally i didnt really agree with everything said, but as someone who is staunchly anti-censorship i do think people interested in taboo content should have a safe space to engage with said taboo in a fictional setting as the post was specifically regarding fanfics. and i the conclusion "dont harass real people over pixels" is one i completely agree with when it comes to literature. (idk if this is a double standard, but im far less ready to defend taboo content when depicted visually tbh, even if it's just drawn stuff, it just doesn't feel the same to me :/ )

i think the focus of the post was more about the right for people to express their taboo/kinky literature, rather than if said content was "valid" in the first place. (at least that's how i interpreted it)

furthermore, i 100% believe if you are a grown adult your media consumption is your responsibility, and theres no excuse for sending people death threats or any kinda hate mail bc you personally dont find it palatable. if youre given warnings, use them. protect your mental health, and know to avoid triggering/upsetting content. and yeah- if you invade people's safe spaces after being warned explicitly, just to shame others and call them freaks, that reflects way worse on you then them.
