I didn't have the chance to go to a jewish summer camp as a child. However, I went to a lutheran one, and with all the corny songs we sang there, so maybe there's some overlap?

I just remembered a song they had us sing about hippos (religious) and I think there was even a dance for it 😭

#jumblr #jew by choice #jewish conversion #personal thoughts tag #oh there WAS a dance because at the part for the jump the camp counselors would give it their ALL 😭#like i think one of the councilors could have jumped over a kid (a small kid but a kid nonetheless) when they danced that song 😭#one thing i appreciated about lutheranism is that lutherans are unafraid to Be Corny #a song about how thankful we are that hippos exist on the same planet as us is corny and i love it #out of everything i could criticize about them that isn't one of the things that deserves criticism #however they did get Super into those corny things #they wrote parodies to popular songs and the parodies were obviously changed to be religious #and we had to sing one of those parody songs before AND after we ate any meal #i honestly do have fond memories of going to camp but it's divorced from being a Religous Experience for me #a lutheran will ask 'is anyone going to make a jesus parody out of jojo siwa's karma song?' and not wait for an answer #(and i kind of think that's iconic)#i'm just surprised i remember the entire song honestly
