Characters who need to make themselves believe the ends justify the means. Forcing it down their throat, again and again and again. Till its second nature, till its addiction. And maybe the ends don't feel so pressing anymore, cus who knew the means could be so good.

#the pragmatic idealist burdened with both responsibility and hope #who lets their morals corrode over each compromise desperately reinforcing them with more and more questionable promises they cant keep #till they wear a crown of Machiavellianism set heavy like a gravestone #and when they finally let themselves indulge in the hedonism of the delusion #its not bitter like they expected #the Stockholm syndrome from their hand crafted cage long since set in #it feels like freedom #mori ougai #geto suguru #im not sure if this makes any sense #but i love this type of character #who sees it clearer than anybody else does #and takes it on even though its not theirs to take #and laughably they get it fkn wrong #and it breaks them #so they just stew in the absurdity of all the vain sacrifices and all the ends they drowned trying to pursue #and they force themselves to love the burn in their legs as they tread water cus they know they arent trying to swim to shore anymore #not really

But also I love Cait for that, that she wanted to be honest. She opened up and is all vulnerable again and that it was important to her to disrupt the moment to let Vi know about this

homestuck was so perfect for autistic teenagers bc it took characters being sorted into categories and having Attributes to its absolute extreme. forget four hogwarts houses, every character has their associated colour their zodiac sign their associated animal their dream planet their god tier class and aspect their typing quirk their pesterchum handle their weapon their planet of x and y, as well as each of them having a handful of other very quantifiable Personality Traits and Interests (e.g. this one is a clown this one is angry this one likes fashion this one is just rufio from hook for some reason) and THEN they all also have their respective ancestors and dancestors(?)(plucked that word from my memory) who have all of those things as WELL

and god not to mention the fucking quadrant system

as a 13-15 year old autistic kid i didnt even need homestuck to have a plot i just happily made a big big spreadsheet of character attributes in my brain

there's a certain character archetype where a lot of people woobify them to the 'they're soooo pathetic' extreme, and other people fight back with the 'the're literally not pathetic at all think about all the insane things they did' and like. did you know that both things can be true at the same time actually

those characters are so deeply pathetic in the way that they'll do anything for just a smidge of validation. those characters will upend every sense of themself and any aspect of their life to maintain the hope that they have a purpose. those characters will fight and kill and scream bloody murder for a chance to feel loved

characters that are dangerous can still be pathetic. a wounded predator still has teeth and claws y'know
