THE EDGE OF SLEEP

i was finally able to watch the edge of sleep and honestly, im impressed. it was good. 10/10 from me for sure. the following will be spoilers so DO NOT read it when you haven't seen the show yet.

okay so im still speechless like wdym MARK'S KISSING SCENE (TWICE EXACTLY)!?!?!?!? Literally this man has never done that. this literally caught me guard, especially the first one. so this was interesting. literally had to pause and think what i just fitness and especially coming from a man who hasn't ever done that (i know i already mentioned that but this came so surprisingly).

okay that out of that way (definitely not gonna gifing that). there is some scenes i wish was there from the podcast:

THE VAN

there is a man with a van who kidnapped girls. he shows up the beginning of the podcast and iirc ep 4 too. anyways he later kidnapped katie as well as he saw a katie the side of the road. then he came to the hospital, keeps dave in the hostages, linda and matteo was able to escape from him and went to his van and saved linda, dave is with that man and he wanted to do something to dave but i don't remember then linda and matteo shuts down the electricity and was able to save dave. also dave got shot as well so they had to operate him while wake. also katie trading daves scar.

i really liked that scene. i wish that scenes are in the series.

DAVE HURTING KATIE

in the series, dave hurts himself and katie find dave in the bathroom doing that. katie needed break from dave of what happened. in the podcast, dave accidentally hurt katies arm (as she has her arm in plaster). the first ep of teos (podcast), she calls dave and they talking about it and she mentions how she is sleeping knife under her pillow every night as she was scared of dave.

love that scenes, wish this was also part of the show.

FLASHBACK

in the podcast, dave is going over his crush house to watch a movie. dave isn't allowed to watch anything that triggers him but he said fuck it and watched a horror movie. later he wakes up and goes to kitchen as he heard something and there is little character thingy and they say to dave take the knife and stab himself, which he did and his parents found him by waking up from the voice and he ends up in the hospital.

in the show, they only showed the scar that he did three weeks ago.

overall i am pretty happy about this show and agreed, the show gets very good towards the end. also so many beautiful scenes for sure. but that KISSING MAN. when mark and other said about romance, I DIDNT THINK THAT. but yeah, loved it and can't wait to do gifs. mad at qcode but thankful for not giving up teos and actually trying to release this. definitely worth the wait.

some things I noticed one my 2nd time watching puella magi madoka magica that I just can't stop thinking about:

none of the architecture or layout of the city or any of the buildings make any sense. like everything is either a weirdly high tech amalgamation of glass and uncanny valley gothic fancy but White, or super gritty industrial horror nonsense landscapes and alley mazes à la silent hill. and like none of it ever seems the same, the city just keeps changing. except for that one café they visit. thats like a normal food court. ive been there. boring, but it's fine.

speaking of which....madokas house is pure nightmare stuff im sorry. ive only ever seen rooms like that in my nightmares. if I'd have to spend a single minute in that bathroom I'd have an aneurysm. everything is bigger on the inside and not in a good way. I get symbolic artistic choices in tv scenes etc but jesus christ why would you ever live like that. doesn't your soul try to escape?

so many chairs. I'm guessing it's some sort of symbolism that I'm not smart enough to understand or have the energy to research but yeah like...why is there like eleven random chairs in her parents bedroom...please get an interior decorator. or like, a different one I guess. one that doesn't want to add unnecessary chairs to every room.

I mean there's more obv I love this show but those details just stick out to me and add to the overall Vibe. like they are truly stuck in a nightmare world. and that not taking into account the actual nightmares they end up fighting in. like none of what they're experiencing is real. I haven't watched the 3rd movie only the 12 ep series so I'm not sure if any of this changes but....like. this is what my nightmares are like. not the trippy witch stuff but the "supposedly real world" they're living in. it's so empty and lacking in substance, so cold and removed from the actual characters. yet its like a character in itself. everchanging and impossible and ugly in an artificially beautiful way.

Log #1 "Okay So- I got myself into this mess" Loading....

Some friends gave me their thoughts on the series after I asked around and their answers made me think.

AreOri is an alternate timeline where Fubuki Atsuya lives, the alien attack didn't happen, Gouenji didn't have to run, Raimon got divorced and went separate ways, and teams have sponsors now because capitalism. (im joking on some parts but still)

Now, we're starting where everything is dead and done and Raimon already went to other schools and made a name for themselves, and we're following a new cast who have to deal with the aftermath of everything. And the new villain, children perfectionism/ half-joke. I haven't finished Ares yet, but I can feel like that's a part of the theme especially with the whole schtick the Balance of Ares program's got going on. But that's a different story for a different time.

What I'm gonna be talking about now is the characters.

Of course that characters we loved and knew from the OG series are gonna be different here. (im still confused about someoka ngl) The development they went through in the OG is gonna be pretty different here or probably non-existent. A huge part of Fubuki's arc was caused by his family's death and it all avalanched into mental instability. (if my memory's right, it's been a while since i've revisted the OG series) Kazemaru also probably didn't leave Raimon in the AreOri timeline, so guess what, he just teams up with the antagonist in his character arc in every timeline. It actually reveals an interesting about his character, tho (i HAVE to watch the entirety of OG, im feeling it)

But the thing is, we also have ANOTHER cast to develop along with explaining some of the changes with the first cast. I feel like there's going to be a lot of flashback moments with the old cast. And to make up for the lack of development of some characters, I'm gonna involve the new cast into their development so the spotlight gets shared equally if it comes to it. Cause the new cast needs some love AND development. But I still have to finish the series and study them more.

So, my thoughts so far on Ares:

Rushed. Jesus H. Christ, twas rushed. It gives the feeling of tuning in while missing out on parts of the story, atleast for me. The first episode made me feel like I was missing the first half of it. I wished they let us see what the kids' life on the island was like. You know to SHOW US WHY WE SHOULD CARE FOR IT. Shoving a bunch of kids crying for their parents on screen aint gonna cut it for everyone, my good men. Show us what their life was like, what they were gonna miss. At least like a part so the flashbacks in their training felt a bit foreshadowed and connects to what we saw to the first ep to make it a little more memorable. (i am losing brain power fast, so im not sure if this makes any good sense)

The thing with Ares, Akane, and Nosaka got me curious. The Inakuni has potential. Haizuki's funny. I kind of like his development. Also I love Endou's civilian fit when he made his first appearance. Idk i just fell in love with it. (give him back his melanin pls) Kozoumaru's interesting, especially his connection with Gouenji (dude helps out a kid in every timeline). Hiura's supposed to be like a detective, right? Let him be more detective-y. Goujin's funny. He has a little charm to him. Mansaku and Michinari are interesting, especially their family dynamics. I love Iwato and Hattori's relationship. They're cute. Who is Okuiri Hiro? I love Norika's personality (it's a personal favorite thing). I think her backstory and home life are interesting. Hiyori's cute and I like him. He's silly. Coach Zhao is Coach Zhao. (this man is a war criminal) I like the new managers. She's silly and Anna's nice.

I'm gonna save Asuto (Bug Boy) for another post.

episode that you love?

im only on season four but i've got a couple of faves so far:

1x21 'three stories': it's practically law that i have to include this. absolute classic of an episode. i love the format, i love the backstory we get, and i especially love the med students!! they were fun and i hope they come back at some point. probably not but im still holding out hope. teacher!house was great to see too, and the deep-dive into his backstory is so delightfully painful and heart-wrenching,,, oughgh

2x07 'hunting': very fun episode!! "what, because you're a closet case?" absolutely killed me the first time i watched it. get their asses lmao. also we get to see steve mcqueen (my beloved <3) and cameron on meth - fun times!

2x15 'clueless' and 2x16 'safe': mainly for the hilson roommates subplot tbf, but the cases were interesting too! these eps also had a lot of funny moments, like wilson sawing through house's cane and the whole tick debacle lmao

3x02 'cane & able': where do i start with this one. first of all the awful cgi hallucinations were fucking hilarious, i was so fucking confused tho. like the whole time i was just going helllo???? aliens????? great stuff. the rest case itself was really fun too!! and this is the one where we get the infamous "i was worried that your wings would melt" speech. oughghgh top tier content right there.

3x04 'lines in the sand': controversial take right here. this is the infamous autism episode. the way they handled it was. well. it was 2006. so. the case itself was interesting too, but the main highlight for me is the autistic house moments <3 and look. i KNOW wilson says house doesn't actually have autism. but MASKING EXISTS, WILSON!! you can pry this headcanon out of my cold dead hands. i support autism rights but i also support autism wrongs or however the meme goes. more people should get to be autistic and jerks i think <3 (saying all this as a guy who most likely has autism btw. i havent got an official diagnosis but uhhhh yeah it's Likely.)

3x07 'son of coma guy': hilson road trip! plus coma guy ig. but mainly hilson road trip :) i love them.

4x02 'the right stuff': i love love love the whole gameshow-esque thing house starts. we get to see some great characters (amber! kutner! dobson my beloved!!!!), and it's just all round a bit of fun. love it.

4x05 'mirror mirror': another fun one!! the mirror syndrome guy gives us a lot of fun insights into the applicant's personalities, i thought that was a really fun way of showing it rather than have a million expositions about each of them lol. also the banter was fun this episode, especially between house, wilson and cuddy. also we find out that wilson is more dominant than house and that kutner's a masochist. great fuel for fic writers. fun!

4x12 'don't ever change': ohohhoo i love this one. the case was alright but the best bit abt it imo was the house, wilson and amber dynamic. i love this trio so fucking much you don't understand,,, i honestly think we should've got poly wilson/amber/house. just think abt it... house and amber friendly rivalry... teaming up to bully wilson... and also amber and wilson bullying house together... would it be a little dysfunctional? yes. but that's to be expected in this show lmao. idk why this turned into a pitch for these three i just love them very very much <3

4x13 'no more mr. nice guy': again for the wilson/amber/house dynamic. this one is very fun i love their custody dispute over wilson, and the dog analogy was very funny to me. and cuddy making house and amber do coma patient duty lmao. AND bisexual thirteen!! love her <3

i haven't actually gotten to the last couple episodes of s4 yet because uhhhh Bad Things Happen and i am delaying the inevitable. send help. but i am sure they are very good and will probably make this list once i get around to watching them!

honourable mentions include 2x13 'skin deep' (purely for the scene where house is in the mri machine and wilson pretends to be god lol), 3x22 'resignation' (for the wilson on amphetamines scene. "i'm not on antidepressants, i'm on speeeeeeeed!" gets me every fucking time) and 4x01 'alone' (house and wilson prank war!!!)

soooo yeah those are my favourites :) and i'm sure there'll be a lot more once i finish the rest of the show but like i said i am Procrastinating lmao

Needed something to watch from iQiyi for my commute now that I have a 7-day VIP pass but I've watched all the kBLs on there that I'd like to and I don't want to watch the raunchy Thai BLs I haven't yet watched (Love Sea, Deep Night) on the train. Thus, this Wi Hajoon and Lee Dongwook duo kdrama.

I had this on my watchlist before it was even released actually because I was on a Wi Hajoon binge in fall 2021. Ended up removing it sometime first half of 2022 it seems like because I got spoiled about the characters being [redacted] and wasn’t sure if that’s a trope I liked. But have watched some more Wi Hajoon and Lee Dongwook shows since then, so honestly, I think I’ll probably like it

yeah, been guessing it was indeed the shelter therapist despite him being ruled out earlier on. i had a small confusion where I thought this man was somehow old enough to have treated people in 1999 because of the files they were going through but ig they were just files of the shelter, not the therapist files.

somehow i wanted the defeat of Yunho to be more satisfying, to see some of it but Su Yeol was asleep for it all it seems

Boss Yong is so cool and brutal, I’m happy she got her revenge even though it felt like The Eye’s existence in the show changed halfway through lol

Overall:

Fine but did not make me feel much and is not going to stick with me the way other shows by these actors have. The first couple of corrupt cop investigations was fine but a bit annoying because we seemed to know everything far in advance to the characters finding out. The second half with Yunho was more interesting in some ways because we also did not know and it was like psychological tricks basically but I wish the ending was more satisfying somehow. Like everything is wrapped up nicely but Inwouldve liked it see it. Nothing super wrong with it but I could’ve just kept it off my watchlist and I wouldn’t have missed much.

(This is gonna be messy asf) He wants to know who she is as a person. He always has, and that's definitely obvious, but from a person inside this, they may not know themselves what the other is thinking. To Charlie it was like he never cared and just wanted an excuse to not see her again, acting like he was truly busy as in the start where he made the rubber duck that breathed fire. Sure. But Charlie saw it as him finding ways to not interact with her again. The only times they talk was when it was related to business stuff or other things of the sort. Let me just say this song... is by far my favorite, including the episode. Sure, it's got problems it's own, but this extremely accurate portrayal of what my own situation with one of my parents just stole my entire soul. Yeah I got a bit of tears about to come out, BUT NOPE! NOT TODAY! I don't ever cry during shows or movies so if I ever get teary-eyed, YOU DID SOMETHING. THAT SOMETHING BEING GOOD. This episode was emotional and connected with me on a deep level that I dont think any film has ever done to me, which is weird because I've been actively trying to find one, any one that does. Then to find it in an indie company from a creator who has achieved the dreams that I myself want to one day? That's fucking amazing.

i've not watched CME yet despite watching the og series for nearly the entirety of its run. i just haven't seen the point without my fave characters (reid and morgan), though i've been curious. i see people who do watch it complain so much and i want to know is it actually worth watching? or are people exaggerating because of their own preferences?

hi anon - its kind of a mixed bag honestly. cme has a lot of the same issues as the later seasons with focusing too much on one character. thats even more obvious now with only ten episodes. ill admit that part is probably ab preferences. if i was a rossi lover id be thrilled!!!!!

the writing is also really inconsistent tho. i thought the first half of the season (even if its a completely different vibe atp) was really entertaining. after ep six tho it felt sloppy. and they mess with a canon a little too much as an easy way to make storylines work.

theyre done with the old formula with a new killer every ep. im okay with that bc the cases they were coming up with every week were getting ridiculous. BUT im not sure the writers strength is focusing on one case and character development and thats prob the main issue.

i think its worth watching if u love the characters, youre okay with four or so good eps and misses, and the flashes of the old show make u happy. but its in this weird space where its not the old show but its not quite good?? id be better if it just picked one - was completely different but actually high quality or leaned into nostalgia (let the team actually work together and not just pair up by twos, let them travel more, etc.)

so yeah over all really, i enjoyed this episode, there hasn't been an episode so far where i felt it got a little bland because there's really nothing and we're already halfway through the show. i didn't notice that some of y'all have actually taken your time to read some of my ramblings so that's quite nice to know and i hope you enjoy! make sure not to get spoiled though if you haven't watched this show yet (❁´◡`❁) until next ep's reaction write-up again!

so i only started watching d20 this year and i started with Neverafter man what a ride! I loved it so much and I'll be back to watch it again sometime I love little red and my frog man so much lmao

and then once that was finished, I decided hmm let's do A Crown of Candy that seems fun! And this was of course while I'm in the middle of 3rd year so I don't have A Lot of time and honestly just added to my extremely high stress levels already. (I haven't actually finished the campaign yet 😬 classes ramped up and it much stress abounded lmao I think there's like 4 eps left? After the betrayal and jet dying and meeting Frostwhip and rescuing Jawbreaker I believe I've seen the episode after jawbreaker is rescued and that's the last. I will come back eventually when I'm less stressed and farther from metal breakdown lol)

And then I watched the first and I think second? episode of dungeons and drag queens. And I truly enjoyed it! I will return to watching it and finish it for sure I just got very deep into school and had no time and then breakdown era lmao

Then I watched Mentopolis! My friend and I both watched and talked theories and honestly I loved it. Just so good, I believe made me cry. Will likely rewatch.

And now I am Obsessed with Burrow's End. Like, I don't even know how to put it in words. (Is it probably because Im mentally unwell right now and under vast stress and strain and have been since September? Lmao probably a small contributing factor) but like I have rewatched episodes already in this season it's that fucking good.

And now while waiting for the weekly episode to drop rather than doing any of my truly enormous list of Extremely important and Critical things to do, I decided I haven't had enough of d20 and I needed more Aabria DM in my life rn. So now I am honestly plowing my way through a court of fey and flowers and I'm in love. Ok Chirp and Squawk are truly marvelous and play off eachother so damn well I am in love with these birds and all the bird puns and references they make endlessly bring me joy. And fucking K P Hob omg 😭 truly going to make me cry this fucking goblin man. I don't really know much about this campaign or what happens but I stg if Hob and Rue don't end up together I will be heartbroken. I just finished the hedge maze EP and honestly up to this point just fucking heartbreaking. But like Holy shit honestly the whole cast is killing it and Aabria bringing the fucking thunder and not even like just A game the fucking A+ extra credit graduate early with honors game holy shit. Like I'm not big into regency, I've never read p&p or seen Downton Abbey or Bridgeton but I've read a few books set in that era and have knowledge of the media and like the cadence and tropes of the genre, so like when I say I'm invested so much I'm like sooo invested. I love all the mechanics with the tokens and the letters and the rumors especially it's amazing. Truly revolutionary and groundbreaking and in the least creepy way possible I would give Aabria a kidney her work is just so amazing.

Episode 3 doesn't end on a cliffhanger, exactly, but it does end on a tragedy. You're not going to want to stop watching if you are watching this show. there's no good spot to stop because everything is happening so much!!!
