i wish having to remind someone something three or five or fifteen times or however many it takes until they remember it on their own was more destigmatized within the framework of disability accomodations

like i understand the emotional significance given to the act of remembering, i have myself have had the kneejerk reaction that maybe i'm not as important to someone as they say i am if they forget something i asked of them or told them. i get it. but that's like. a societal expectation that isnt necessarily true, you know.much like eye contact to mean you are listening or a smile to mean you are friendly. like, yeah, of course an asshole who isn't listening to you might not make eye contact, but that doesn't mean that every single time someone isn't making eye contact it means they are an asshole.

to me disposition is much more important than memory, especially in the realm of boundaries and cohabitation, like: let's say you don't like it when your partner puts their shoes on the bed. extremely reasonable thing to ask them not to do, and something that, if not done, would very quickly become a point of contention because them continuing to do the thing you asked them not to is interpreted as a dismissal of your feelings and a violation of a reasonable boundary. and i know a lot of people themselves already struggle putting up boundaries and enforcing them and are extremely reactive to anything that can be interpreted as a boundary being crossed, and this can be super hard to deal with. but like. disabilities ARE hard to deal with, you know, they are frustrating and they might slow you down or inconvenience you, and that's just part of the deal! is it really an accomodation if the line is drawn at whatever arbitrary point someone decides they're done accommodating? do you walk alongside a person on crutches for three blocks and then are like, ok, i've accommodated you enough, time to go at my pace now?

and yes, yes, i know "i forgot" or "i didn't know" can be used to truly harm someone else in a number of infinitely nuanced scenarios. context clues, people. to me that's where disposition comes in and separates "literally struggles to remember" from "disrespecting and pushing boundary", and i think that separation, albeit fuzzy for people who strongly correlate memory and respect, can be learned?

if my partner was like, "hey, don't put your shoes on the bed!" then a respectful disposition towards their boundaries would immediately make me go, "oh no! sorry i forgot! here, i will stop doing it immediatly, and if necessary amend the damage of me forgetting (in this analogy, washing the sheets)". and if this has to happen thirteen times before i remember on my own, i would feel truly bad about it because i'm letting my loved one down even though it's something i legitimately can't control. i don't know! it's the "if you cared, you would remember" unstoppable force vs "if you cared, you'd cut me some slack for not remembering" immovable object, it's hard. like thats what i mean by context clues, what is more likely: that a person who in every other way has shown up for you has suddenly become toxic/selfish/abusive specifically about shoes on the bed, or that they struggle to remember?

i don't know man. the way i see it, ultimately it's a lot more feasible to adjust your expectations of what someone loving you and caring about you will look like and how it shows up in their behavior, than it is to literally force yourself to remember something. and my memory issues are not even that bad! after the fifth or sixth reminder something will generally stick around (unless it's a situation that does not happen often, in which case the large stretches of time in between might hinder my progress), and like someone might just decide the rest of the Me is not worth the trouble, and that's their prerogative, but i do think it says more about them than it does about me.

everyone's always up for disability rights until it becomes inconvenient or clashes with their idea of what "good behavior" should look like. like i can't help but think that if this is something that *i* struggle with socially, i can't imagine what people who have a legitimately debilitating memory disability, who may need to be reminded forever, feel like every day of their damn lives

The Ishigamis and The Gifts of Science

Dr. Stone is a love letter to humanity and its sciences. The main character, Senku, often acts averse to all forms of affection, and the only love he doesn't deny is his love for science. But Senku is so so full of love. He just expresses it in a way other than physical touch or words of affirmation. He gives.

But let's go back to the one who taught him so– Byakuya Ishigami, his father. The love of Senku's life.

Byakuya is introduced in the tenth chapter of the manga as a dotting father who sells his car to present Senku with scientific instruments he will need for a more efficient research. This car is Byakuya's means of transportation, and given that he is crying and shaking in this scene, it could not have been easy for him to lose it. But his love for Senku is so big, that he wants to support his son's passion even if it means sacrificing a great convenience for him.

And Senku? Senku truly fell in love with science at this moment.

If there is anything that Senku is, he is Byakuya Ishigami's son through and through. They may seem like two very different people, as Byakuya is an openly affectionate guy while Senku is more closed off with showing his true emotions. But Senku takes more from Byakuya than not, and one of them is by showing his love and/or care for others through giving the gifts of science.

And it starts with Byakuya.

Byakuya had failed his first attempt at being an astronaut ten years back, but he doesn't give up and tries again. Senku then creates a bodysuit that manipulates muscle movement to help Byakuya pass his swimming test. And while the bodysuit doesn't quite help Byakuya to swim, the thought Senku had put into it had motivated Byakuya more than ever to pass the test. This is one of the fundamentals of gifting– sometimes, it really is the thought behind it that matters.

This motivation is what Byakuya credits during his interview with JAXA for passing the tests. He understands that Senku might not have given him any words of encouragement, but this bodysuit was all the words that were needed between them. Senku wants Byakuya to achieve his dreams just as badly. It's the way Senku shows his love for his father.

And it's the way Senku shows his love for others too.

One of the primitive aspects of the Ishigami village is that it considers bad eyesight as a type of "disease". Fuzzy disease, to be exact.

Suika wears a melon mask at all times to help clear her eyesight, which Senku later reveals is due to the pinhole effect. She, however, has never told Senku or the others about having the fuzzy disease. Senku himself notes how odd it is for her to wear a melon around, and confronts her about it once he decides to create glass. This is one of the most beautiful scenes in Dr. Stone, as Suika finds out that her disease was never a disease, and is finally able to see as clearly as the others. Senku basically gives her perfect eyesight, something she didn't even know was possible before.

One of the most beloved people in this village is the priestess, Ruri. Two of Senku's new friends, Kohaku and Chrome are deeply affected by her unknown fatal disease. Senku is such a person who would help a stranger even if there is no benefit to do so (though he would never admit to it), what more a person who his new friends truly love and care about. He cures Ruri of pneumonia, giving her a chance to live a life without the worry of it being her last day every day.

Senku forms an alliance with Gen, who plays the role of Tsukasa's spy, for the promise of a bottle of cola. Both Senku and Gen are aware that the cola is only a front for Gen's loyalty to Senku and the Kingdom of Science, for Gen needs his superficial reputation as a comfort and cannot simply join them if there is no personal benefit for him to do so.

This cola is also the first gift post-petrification that Senku brands himself on, probably because it represents the first gift that is not out of necessity and leans toward a comfort/luxury that they both used to enjoy in the modern world.

For a modern man such as Gen, drinking his favourite soda in the stone world might have been one of the happiest days in his life.

Senku cares about people so much, even if the people in question have tried to kill him. Senku sees Homura as a soldier who is merely following the orders given by her leader, but he also sees the Homura as a lonesome girl sitting by herself on trees day and night.

As usual, Senku hides his kindness and care by showing an evil ulterior motive, such as turning Homura to their side using the cotton candy, but Ruri points out that this is a facade. Similarly to Gen, a person with such an ego is unable to seem as if he is doing something good out of the kindness of his heart.

As winter approaches, the elders in the village are worried about losing people to the cold. Senku hears about this and creates a stove which has a multi-purpose of cooking and also radiating heat for the people to stave off the coldness of winter. And speaking of winter...

[Christmas Acquired!]

Senku hangs up lights in the tree for the "light bulb test" on a random night. Except the date isn't random at all and he drops enough hints for Gen to catch on that it is the night of Christmas. The significance of the day is only appreciated by Gen and himself, as they are the only modern timers in the village. It is for the sake of nostalgia, but Senku would rather be caught dead than admit that he is a sentimental guy with such irrational feelings.

And well, it all comes back to that scene with Byakuya, doesn't it? If you recall, Byakuya calls himself "Santa" while giving the scientific presents to the young Senku. This indicates Senku received them during Christmas. Which means... Christmas is a sentimental day to Senku and his father. An anniversary of Senku receiving his Christmas presents from Byakuya, which led to his deeper dive into his science obsession. The beginning of it all, one would say.

And even though he's dead and buried, Byakuya never stops giving. He gives Senku the Ishigami village to provide Senku with allies. He gives Senku Lillian's music, because he believes in the light of music and understands the importance of media to society. He collects platinum till his last breath, because he believes that Senku will need it someday. Byakuya keeps on giving to Senku, because his love for his son is so huge and unconditional. And because he promised.

Surely, there is no greater love in the manga than Byakuya's love for his son and Senku's love for his father. Byakuya could easily win ten billion best father awards... well, not like there's much competition for that in shounen mangas.

Like people are acting like buck was belting out his life story in a musical number to tommy but tommy literally shared more than buck did

What tommy told buck about his life/past

1. His father is just like gerard and gerard made him a bad person 2. He was closeted for a long time and only came out a few years ago 3. He has a bad relationship with his father 4. He feels guilty and bad about the person he used to be 5. He longs for a family like the 118 has and is openly jealous about it there’s definitely more but im not remembering it all. The point is, Tommy freely offered very private and deep feelings and information about himself to Buck, and as far as we could see or know, Buck never pried. Had he pried he mightve found out a lot sooner about abby, which isnt a dig on buck at all, more just an observation. Also, all we got from buck sharing about his past was “bobby was the father i never had” (which even confused tommy bc tommy was not in the loop that bucks father is not great: ie buck didnt share that with him) And then in confessions when he talked about Abby.

People only feel like Buck shared more because he’s the character we know more about, we’ve been following his story but if you are unbiasedly comparing the two (based on what was shown and told to us, not “what ifs” off screen) then Tommy absolutely shared more, and I’m tired of people acting like he was this cold closed off boyfriend who was never emotionally vulnerable with Buck when he literally was!

They both made mistakes but trying to put blame on Tommy for not being open enough doesnt make sense to me, when you could just as easily blame Buck for not prying or sharing stuff about himself either.

Hi! How are you?

Funny enough, this actually happened in one of my fics (Holy Ground, ch. 18) haha. Believe it or not, I think Levi is someone who doesn’t handle jealousy scenes very well. Some couples find it—if it’s not actually toxic and just an occasional thing—almost funny, even endearing. But Levi? He doesn’t find them endearing at all haha. I can just picture him going, "Me? For real? You’re making a jealousy scene over me? I barely tolerate people, I’m grumpy, blunt, and I talk to almost no one on a daily basis. And you’re doubting me?" Almost like saying, "I’d get it if I were someone more outgoing or charming—like Eyebrows, who smiles at every stranger—but me?"

If the jealousy is about something he did before they were even together, oh boy hahaha. At first, he wouldn’t even take it seriously, but once he realizes she actually means it? Levi would be like, "You’ve gotta be kidding me." I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Levi is not only extremely secretive about his past—he’s also deeply mistrustful about it. If he opens up about his past or past relationships, it’s because he’s trying to share a piece of himself. But at the same time, Levi knows he did a lot of shit as a young man haha. Still, in his mind, it’s his shit. His mistakes. His past. I feel like he has this mentality of, "I did what I had to do in the shitty situation I was in. And despite all that, I turned out… somehow decent." So if someone tries to use his past against him—either to lecture him or to get jealous over it—not only are they shutting down any chance of him opening up again, but he’s not going to take it nicely. I can definitely see him getting defensive, like:

"I didn’t have parents to tell me what was good for me or to lecture me. Don’t try to take on that role now, because I don’t need it—and it’s not your damn place."

At first, he might brush it off as a joke. Like, "Are you serious? Don’t be stupid. Who cares about that? You have me now—isn’t that what matters? I was with them when I didn’t even know how to clean my ass properly. I’m with you now, as an adult." Maybe he’d even play along a little, pulling her back to him, getting that sassy edge in his tone—"Didn’t you love all the things I know how to do thanks to them? You sure seemed grateful last night." But if he realizes she’s genuinely upset? That’s when he might actually get mad lol.

Of course, he understands that jealousy isn’t something a person can just turn off. He’d probably try to talk it out because, in his mind, the real issue here isn’t the past—it’s trust. "She doesn’t trust me." And that’s the real problem, right? But at the same time, he’s not going to tolerate it if it becomes a habit. Like, Levi can be controlling, but don’t try to control him haha. I have this feeling that when Levi enters a relationship—especially as a Captain—it’s because he’s looking for some kind of happiness, some calm in the chaos of his life. He doesn’t want it to turn into a constant argument over who he’s been with or who he talked to.

Late night text, sneaking out to chat in the late hours of the night, the spanish petnames, back and forth flirting, even the mere thought of you brought a smile to Chris' face. What was supposed to be just a vacation with his brothers was becoming, for him, a start of something, in simple terms, a casialgo. and so, when you invited him to your towns party he was over the moon, dressing his nicest he walked out the hotel room and got a ride to the next town over.

You liked chris, you wouldn't lie and say you didn't but you had your doubts, yes you also lived in la, but now that you were older and were able to choose where to stay, you were primarily in mexico. He was only here for a vacation and had his life in la and Boston and you had your life primarily in mexico. so you told yourself to not get attached and to leave it as a casialgo.

the night couldn't be more alive, it was honestly a bit overwhelming for chris, he knew how to party in la, that was a given, but here? he felt like the odd one out, the live banda playing in the back while people crowded on the dance floor to dance, it was all so different. The dances were different, the songs were different, of course it was a given but it still had him feeling out of place.

Chris was standing near the snack booth trying to look for you but had no luck, he just assumed that you were still getting ready and hadn't gotten here yet, that was until he looked towards the dance floor again and saw you, that should be good right? Wrong, his stomach twisted and he felt a pang to his chest when he saw you. You were dancing, and thar itself would be fine if he hadn't seen you dancing with someone else. He could see the smile on your face as you and another guy danced, the way your face changed as you laughed and followed the guys lead with whatever song was playing that chris couldn't understand.

Watching you continue to dance with him for another two songs he finally had enough, moving from his spot next to the snack booth he walked towards you on the dance floor and interrupted your fun tapping your shoulder.

the live banda was loud, your favorite songs being played live as you danced, you were just passing time, waiting for chris thinking he still wasn't here, oh how wrong you were, as the song ended and you and your dance partner took a moment to catch your breaths you felt someone tap your shoulder, turning to see who your heart dropped, seeing chris, upset.

"having fun?" Chris let the anger and betrayal he felt sit on his face as he saw you turn. "güero it isn't-" ''it isnt what it looks like? because to me it looks like you got to know me, we were getting somewhere, and now you're out here dancing with someone else." you could only stare at him "Chris i know this looks wrong but please just let me expla-" "nah, you can save that shit for someone else" and with that chris walked away leaving you to stand there with the words in your throat.

you watched him walk away, you knew you told yourself it was gonna be a casialgo, that you couldn't get to attached because he was only supposed to be a summer casialgo, but this, this hurt, you had so much to tell him and to explain, your thoughts were quickly cut off by your dance partners voice, "y ya se te acabó tu amor con el güerito" (and your love with your güerito came to end)"¿sabes qué jose? mejor cállate," (yknow what jose? it'd be better if you shut up.) you walked away and walked to the live banda. "oye, pude tocar la de y todo para qué porfa," and with a simple nod of the banda, the cords of the last song slowly faded into the beginning of yours.

for example, take more scenes that have developed in my head:

to make the typing shorter, I'm going to call first's character F and Khao's character K!

On his first day of training, someone made F grab coffee and make copies, but F tried to do both at the same time and he was running into the elevator with a stack of papers on TOP of the coffee and he ended up dropping everything on top of K (luckily all iced). K yelled at him, covered in sopping wet papers, but we find out later on that he laughed his ass off as soon as he got back into his office, sopping wet, all because of how fast F talked trying to explain himself, and how big his eyes were when he looked at him so panicked. After that, K couldn't help but tease him.

I feel like F lives by a train and whistles as it passes by every night. I don't know why.

I don't imagine this as a "K's secretly in love with him the whole time" story-- I do think K is more hesitant to fall in love but there is a certain desire to be around F (because LOOK AT HIM).

There has to be some kind of color coordination here. First has to wear slightly brighter colors while Khao wear's not just dark but dull colors. He's not a huge fashion guy, but he really likes representing his mood with what he wears so he always rolls his eyes at K's wardrobe

to grow upon my switch idea, i think that first and khao's characters would take control in different ways at home and at work, because i think F will eventually find that he LOVES it when K takes control at work, and khao's character loves being bossed around at home. but then there's one day when the dynamic snaps. K is pacing around the room, tugging at his tie, and shoves his arm free when F tries to grasp at it and calm him down. And then, all of a sudden, F pushes him down into his chair roughly. Despite his anger, K's gaze darkens a bit-- but in a different way. F gets to his knees, and takes K's hands, leading them to his hair. F says, "run your hands through my hair and rub my head, now." It's an order, and K complies, feeling his scalp and watching as F's lips part just a bit. He relaxes slightly. F's eyes flutter open, but now HE looks tense. "Kiss me."

First’s character is slightly clumsy and a nervous wreck whenever he’s around Khaotung’s character because he’s always undoing his tie around his neck just slightly, craning his head to the side to expose his jaw and throat. Khaotung’s character is hot when he gets stressed, and even more when he’s angry

first in glasses and a suit is obviously a selling point (khun alan, please return to me!!)

Khaotung’s character is confident and self-assured but lord he doesn’t know how to work a copier so First’s character ends up being a little cocky about knowing more than him until K’s character has him backed up against the machine with a smirk on his face because HE controls the dynamic here, dammit. And first’s character has his hands pressed against each side of the copier to brace himself up (big-eyed, startled man)

I imagine they’d switch and thought of a scene where f’s character would get fucked in the supply room—WHO SAID THAT

Gelboys is extremely realistic to me because it knows something that i feel a lot of people forget as they mature: sometimes lying to yourself is very fun.

I think Baabin spending the first half of the episode in such a state of bliss is evidence of this. Fou4mod appears to not kmow anything about Baabins feelings, he has no inkling of them apparently, but it doesnt even matter. The very act of roleplaying Chian is enough because Baabin will just lie to himself to complete the picture. He'll give himself hope over and over again. And the audience will root for him to get what he wants because he's likable.

Fou4mod has enjoyed lying to himself this whole time, he likes feeling special to Chian even if he knows nothing will come of it. But its harder for him because Chian also likes lying to himself and pretending this relationship will last forever.

When youre a teenager you kind of suck all the time, and its worse because you're so self aware that you know you kind of suck all the time. But you're also Still A Teen, so you tell yourself youre allowed to suck because youre still young and youre just figuring things out.

Fou4mods relationship with Chian isnt just something that exists between the two of them, his friends know and Chians friends know. Even if they never end up Dating and In Love this will always be an era of Fou4mods life that people can reference, and it will always be something Fou4mod himself can look back on and discuss in the future. Watching it is like seeing these characters continuously chant "Im doing it for the plot" over and over again and thats what makes it so viscerally uncomfortable.

That disconnect is what makes it so easy to sympathize with Baabin over everyone else. He does things in secret, he takes whats given and he's scared to burden anyone with his feelings. He's doing everything purely for himself, but in doing so he's isolated himself further. His episode is all sad and long shots and suffocating play pretend.

Really appreciative of the fact that the narrative hasnt really tried to fix these characters and their traits and has instead met them where they're at. The joy they feel when theyre happy (even if its a lie) is no less important than how awful they feel once it ends. I feel its very easy to see them and declare that what theyre doing is wrong and that they'll regret it forever. But they already know that! Thats part of whats so enticing to them, and also why they cant let go. Once the lying is over then the fun is gone, all they have left to deal with is that hole. So they dig themselves in deeper hoping that day never comes.

"it's fine if you hate me"

this has been said many times before by many (very hot and smart) people but it bears saying in perhaps a different way:

if andrew had somehow, by some absolute miracle, managed to actually ask neil out--if neil had said "you like me" and andrew managed to say "yes actually i like you as a person and want to be around you"--

neil would not have fucking kissed him.

thats what it means when neil says andrew hating him is fine. its not just fine, thats--in neils own words!--an understatement. its a necessary condition for neil to move forward with a physical relationship. because neil knows hes going to die. hes not going to do that to somebody; if dan or matt or someone quote unquote normal had asked him out, he would have shut it down immediately even if the feeling was reciprocated. hes going to hurt the foxes enough by being their friend and dying; hes not going to lead someone on into thinking they could have a long term relationship. he can only pursue this thing with andrew because he believes that andrew does not care about him as a person.

theres two main cases for why neil believes this:

he completely misread the situation with andrew

he is deliberately lying to himself about it to give himself an excuse to do the thing he wants to do anyway (kiss andrew stupid)

we can argue ourselves blue in the face about which one is most plausible; i generally take the boring centrist route of "bit of both, probably." andrew is, after all, a bit of a hard person to read, and neil is, after all, a lying liar who lies.

It is a good thing that the BG3 team is attentive and we get updates all the time, but where does it end? If they are going to continue changing stuff about the game per request, what will be there left of what they envisioned in the first place? Especially for character traits and dialogue, like making them kinder and more likeable, just because there were two more people asking for it and they happened to see it. I just don't want to see characters shift into generic ones just because of a need to respond to everyone's ideas

genuinely curious how the writers and larger dragon age audience would treat thom rainier if instead of being appropriately* repentant and putting himself in prison he blew up a major orlesian government building to instigate a chevalier rebellion or tried to have someone do some necromantic blood magic ritual involving uncertain danger and possible sacrifices to bring the innocent children he ordered killed back to life
