now listen this might be wrong to say as a fan but i need taylor swift to get less popular before the next era. we need to find a way to weed out these trend followers
#to clarify i’ve NEVER been a hater of ‘new swifties’ the way some people are#like as a fan i WANT to see her getting more support and from the fan perspective i love the feeling of finding a new obsession#so in theory it should be a win win for everybody#but these people are all FAKE. like i’m not even really worried about them sticking around because i KNOW they won’t#which is sad on a different note because we know how much taylor cares about numbers measuring her success#and when these people leave her in the dust as they surely will there’s just no way the demand for her is going to stay this high#it’s like how she thought lover was her last chance to remain successful in beating her previous numbers#but like that actually might be true this time#please don’t send me hate. i hope this isn’t true and in the same breath i wish taylor didn’t put so much pressure on herself in this regard#but i do think the majority of this new fans are fair whether friends that are just piggy backing off the hype#so i cant imagine these numbers staying consistent for years and years#but then again she’ll be gaining new fans that are TRUE along the way so hopefully i’m not right#but still hopefully i’m a little right so getting tickets to next tour is nothing and i mean NOTHING like this

Lately I’ve been feeling like Thai bl is truly all over the place with so many shows airing at once and some of the best ones flying under the radar while discourse is focused on a couple of the big messy ones. I think you’re the only person I know who is actually watching ALL of them and has been here for the whole evolution of the genre, so I’m curious what stands out to you about this current moment. Do the shows feel different to you? Is the way fandom is interacting with them changing? And what are your current favs?
I ended up writing a thesis, sorry friend lol To be fair to me there are 3 questions in there, all of them meaty! I've done my best to give a sense of where I'm at with Thai BL and how it feels like it's changed over time.
Caveating all of this: I am just one fan who I'm sure has had specific experiences that will colour my opinion, also a lot of this is just vibes so I'm open to being told I've forgotten something major or misremembered what it was like! If you are reading this and your opinion or experience is different please share, with stuff like this I'm always interested in hearing about differing opinions because the fandom experience will depend at least partly on where you hang out. For years, my main fandom space for BL was the YouTube comments section (RIP me).
Overall feel
Honestly, things overall don't feel all that different to me in Thai BL in particular, even though I'm about to talk about a lot of changes and ways it actuallyd does feel very different below lol And after reflecting about it, I think it's because these things still feel very much in flux, in a way that they've felt in flux this entire time. Producers are still figuring out the best funding and distribution models and merch models to make money; creators are still calibrating how queer these shows can be and still be popular; actors are still figuring out how to do BGP (business gay performances) without having fans interfere in their private lives off the clock. Writers are still trying to figure out how to write 12-episode arcs that don't drag in the middle or fumble the ending (which is also not new). The tension between established ships, fan expectations, and genre requirements has honestly been there almost the whole time, though the reverberations of missteps is louder now because of the larger fanbase that is (comparatively) more plugged in to live viewing. The core question in BL has always been 'how do we make this marketable', and that unsurprisingly hasn't changed, though the answer to that question has over time, if that makes sense?
Shows
Do the shows feel different? As a whole, I'd say yes. The biggest differences are of course total quantity and overall quality, but the actual distribution of % of shows that have high(er) production values (i.e. quality) feels close to the same--it was close to 50/50 in the late 2010s and now is maybe more like 40/60 with a higher percentage coming from more smaller production companies. But the numbers we're talking about are something like 15 shows in e.g. 2018 and something more like 50 shows in 2023 (being vague because there are shows that people could argue over whether they should count). The quality overall has increased, even the pulps look better, sound better, and tend to feel a little bit more put together than the pulps of even 2020 (please note that these are all relative qualifiers, most of these shows are still not objectively good). 2020 in particular was a watershed moment for high production value BLs; we get colorists and special effects artists, and sometimes decent sound production now!
There has also been an improvement in terms of what is depicted and how certain subject matter is treated very generally, though I think that's still in flux. Things like evil ex girlfriends are less common than they were and the women in BL are more likely (in general, still not always) to be treated as realized characters. We've gotten more and better femme representation in ensemble shows, and the "gay for you" trope is much less common. Consent is now considered sexy and is much more common than it was; non-consent as "sexy" has eroded and is much less common. Things that used to happen in almost every BL now happen in a much lower percentage. I also feel a little bit less worried about some of the actors on pulp sets because there is more general scrutiny about things like minor actors, intimacy coordination, BGP (business gay performance) expectations, and sexual exploitation. Overall, show recommendations these days come with fewer caveats.
The assumption that if you worked with someone on a BL once you would stay with them as an established pairing was surprisingly early in BL; I don't know if it's just because there were a few shows that had side pairings then get main shows, so the actors did work together on a few shows in a row, which made them feel established, or whether it's because the BGP started early to build hype both before and after shows aired, or whether audiences just made homophobic assumptions about how if two actors had chemistry they had to be gay for each other, and otherwise nobody would want to "play gay" more than once, or would want to have to kiss too many other men....in any case, there were huge scandals and blow-ups around this in BL on even the earliest shows, and some early shows were snubbed because of the pairing alone. Similarly, it was established very early in BL (i.e. 2016-17) that an unhappy ending for a pair would result in your show being panned; cheating was also a guaranteed flop in BL circles (though some ensemble shows that had gay relationships in them such as Friend Zone did fine with cheating plots and unhappy endings). Overall it feels like some things were only depicted in early Thai BL and creators have avoided them since due to the audience reception at the time. I will say, generally, that there have now been enough examples of people in a "branded pair" moving on to a new pair or multiple shows, that it feels less like a death knell to a BL career if one of the actors says they no longer wanted to make BLs, or if they switched companies.
I pay a lot of attention to queerness in BL, and that has changed a little bit too, though not in the way I expected. I had been expecting a more clear and steady trajectory in BL, but we've instead had real swings, and I've realized there will just always be shows that feel more or less actually gay or queer than others, and that's ok. Early Thai shows really spoiled us for good queer content, GayOK Bangkok and Diary of Tootsies are still shows by which i measure what we get now, and both of those are from 2016. I would say that more "mainstream" BL (i.e. by one of the major production companies) hit what turned out to be queer saturation around 2020 and that's where I was most surprised not see a more clear trajectory; rather than things getting more queer from there, I'd say a greater percentage of shows overall feel more queer, but we haven't (and I now suspect won't) reach the queerness we had in Thai tv in 2016. That being said, my secret running list of things I want to see in BL gets shorter every year as entries get crossed off, so I would say the range of queer experience is slowly getting captured as more content continues to be made by a wider range of production houses (PrEP being mentioned in a mainstream show is my white whale).
I know some people assume that shows are higher heat now overall, but I don't think that's true. I do think Thai television producers and directors have overalll gotten better at capturing sensuality, and acting workshops have improved chemistry-building overall too. But from what I can tell the ratio of high head and low heat content is still pretty similar to what it's always been, maybe slightly higher (e.g. at a quick glance I'd guesstimate 30% of shows had a sex scene in 2018 vs 40% in 2023).
Fandom
The main differences in fandom from the really early days and now are the ways we, as international fans, are able to engage with each other, with thai audiences at the same time, and with content creators, and the entitlement that comes with that. In the 2010s we were almost always watching after Thai airing, with either fansubs or, later, official subs, trailing online releases by days or weeks, which themselves may have trailed the Thailand airing date by days or weeks or sometimes even months. That became less true around 2019ish, and especially in 2020 when I think Thai producers were desperate to reach audiences during the start of the pandemic (and when audiences were desperate for something to distract us from what was happening in real life).
As a fan in the mid-late 2010s, watching something was either unofficial via a fansubber, or you were wading through hundreds of Thai comments to find anyone else writing about the shows in English. Now, it's actually rare we don't have immediate international distribution, though it may be paid. If the subs are not up at the same time as the official upload, even on free sites, fans get furious. It's a bit surreal to see people complain about waiting a few hours for subtitles, especially on YouTube, when we sometimes waited months for a series to finish being subbed (not to say people didn't complain back then too, because they sure did! But there were fewer international fans overall, and it wasn't an expectation that there would be subs, so fewer people complained when it happened). This meant that a lot of people only watched shows when they were complete, and people were not watching with any kind of synchronicity.
With international fans moving into simultaneous watching with Thai audiences, we suddenly had the chance to talk about shows as they were airing and affect the conversations about them and even, sometimes, the decisions. Folks seem to have differing opinions about what makes a BL, and what makes a BL good, and they are vocal about when a show doesn't meet their standard. This has always been true, but the strong opinions have more of an effect on the discourse when they're expressed in real-time to the show being aired. Also, when we have literally 3x the number of Thai shows being aired (nevermind other countries which have also increased), it seems so much more egregious to me to complain if a single show doesn't meet your particular taste. Just go watch something else! That was less possible in 2016, but now nobody has any excuse lol Please note here that I'm not saying shows should not be criticized. But when you have one loud faction saying shows should have nothing but innocent kisses if any skinship at all and showing more is distasteful and possibly homophobic, and another faction saying a show should be panned if they don't have at least one sex scene and if there is no good kiss it's homophobic, I don't know where that leaves content creators but I see the tension and how it sometimes results in my least favourite tropes like "blushing maiden" even after a couple has canonically had sex. These factions have always existed in BL fandom, this is not new, they just both seem particularly silly now with so much content to choose from.
The shows that get attention and the shows that get snubbed feel the same too, in all honesty. You can ask yourself the following questions:
Is the show a little slower paced?
Are the story beats less melodramatic?
Do its characters feel more human?
Do they feel more queer?
Is it a comedy?
Is there any risk of an unhappy ending?
Do people not think one of the lead actors is hot?
Do people ship one of the lead actors with someone who isn't his costar?
Do people have to do anything other than go to YouTube to watch it?
If the answer is yes to any of those questions, and especially to the last one, fewer people will be watching, even if the show is good. That's always been true. [Shows I'm thinking about when I say that: Make it Right, He's Coming to Me, My Ride, You're My Sky, Oxygen (though the sides in this one are also at fault), YYY, Something in my Room, Ghost Host Ghost House, Dear Doctor I'm Coming for Soul, Cooking Crush.] All this is to say, there have always been shows that have been ignored, though I agree with you OP that with more shows airing, more are being ignored at any given time.
The other thing is that when a show is good, it doesn't necessarily invite discourse. The messes are often what encourage people to dig in, fill in gaps, linger in the adrenaline. The part that does feel different is also related to the increase in genre BLs; genre stuff in general tends to get more attention in fandom spaces, and the way people are functioning as fans feels different in that they're bringing the way they interact with genre content to BL as BL has started having larger and better funded genre content. I'm thinking about those early genre BLs like He She It, My Dream, Love Poison, Golden Blood, So Much In Love, Why R U....we started getting genre shows in BL in I think 2017 and basically had 1-2 a year until 2020ish and then it increased from there; and the ones that had funding and decent distribution got engagement until they started going off the rails, and then they had even more engagement and then fell off. I don't think it's a coincidence that the shows last year that got people to write meta were La Pluie, Be My Favorite, and I Feel You Linger in the Air. When a show is building a world, there's more to say and interrogate about it, and when a genre show fails, it can fail more spectacularly than a regular romance story. The most popular BL shows used to all be straight-up BL bubble romances, but I think genre shows really started to take over a greater percentage of the popular spots in 2022 and 2023. Again, the main difference here is that there used to be 1-2 stand-out shows per year, and now there are closer to 6+ per year, and as we got more stand-out shows the variety of what type of show stood out as popular has expanded. I do think the overall percentage of shows that are more standard romance plots has reduced, partly because Thai production companies are running out of popular y-novels to adapt. So I'm anticipating we'll continue to get more genre content going forward, and maybe a higher percentage of original works too.
Shows I'm Enjoying Right Now
Right now, the Thai shows airing that I'm watching are:
Cooking Crush
Dead Friend Forever
Cherry Magic Thailand
City of Stars
The Sign
Playboyy
PitBabe
7 Days before Valentine
For Him
Of those, I'd currently most recommend Cooking Crush as a generic BL recommendation. Dead Friend Forever is very good, but is not a romance and is difficult for some to watch (there are a lot of dark themes in addition to the gore and scary bits).
Cooking Crush is doing so many things I love. I've written about the way it's set up its major conflict to be amongst the friend group here, and way the show is depicting communication between the two main characters and how they improve their communication with one another as they get closer here. Two of my biggest BL pet peeves are a conflict for the sake of a dramatic penultimate episode that ignores or retcons a character's growth or the building of trust that a couple has already gone through in the series, so the fact that this show is working so hard to establish strong communication between its leads and then setting up the significant drama to actually about friendship rather than romance is something I cannot overstate my excitement about. To tie this back into what I wrote above, this reminds me of Diary of Tootsies and I mean that in the best possible way.
Dead Friend Foreever is, like I mentioned above, not a romance; it's a slasher horror melodrama with a very well established mystery, an ensemble cast of mostly hateable characters (which I admit isn't usually my thing, but since they're likely all going to die as a result of the genre they're in I'm finding that more tolerable than usual, and there is at least one character I like). DFF did a great job of structuring the story for the ultimate payoff of information reveals. There are a lot of shows that have been messing with non-linear storytelling recently, Cooking Crush being one of the ones that actually does this poorly in my opinion, but Dead Friend Forever effectively uses non-linear storytelling so that we find out important pieces of information about particular characters at a time when that information will have the most emotional impact on what is happening in the "present" of the storyline. Every time there is a reveal, it informs what we've already seen, recontextualizes it, and means we understand some of the character motivations and actions differently from when we saw them the first time. I mentioned above that there are dark themes in this show; one of the things that I really like about this show is that the impact of class is not glossed over, and that the consequences of these events feel very real for the characters; people do terrible things in this show, but these actions are not treated lightly by the show itself.
You'd think these two shows would have nothing in common, but there are things that they share that put them both in my top category. Generally, in both of these shows, the character arcs are clear and logical; when a character does something, even if I don't like the action itself, I can understand exactly why they that and can see how it matches where they are in their arc at the time. The shows show change in characters as a result of what they experience, and the relationships in this show really matter. When characters start acting in ways that feel out of character or against their own arc because they have to in order to drive the plot forward, I struggle to remain invested; that's not happening with either of these shows. Both of these shows also treat serious topics with seriousness, and consequences for actions are real and felt by the characters in the show (and if someone gets away with something, the show is clear that this is not just). Nothing has happened that hasn't been signalled or implied earlier. Both shows also have clear class consciousness and represent the disparity caused by classism in a critical/harsh light.
Whew! I think I got to everything you asked. Thanks again for the extremely interesting question!
#ask game#bl meta#long post#typed so that I can stop thinking it#fandom meta#multi bl#thank you for the ask!

Hey, thanks for bringing this stuff about DnP to light! Obviously, as a someone who’s been a fan of theirs (and still is) for about ten years now, it’s a hard pill to swallow, but even when I was younger I could tell that some of the jokes/statements they made were definitely in poor taste. I never acknowledged the wider hurt it may have caused, though, and I’m definitely learning to be better than that and listen to when poc are talking about these issues.
I guess there’s definitely an element of defence, particularly in this day and age, where people immediately assume that their faves are being cancelled and they’ll rush to defend them to avoid that from happening. To be fair, I’ve been that person before in the past, but I’ve learnt to internalise that “no, people aren’t trying to cancel DnP or ruin people’s fun, and believing that is simply immature; we are simply holding them accountable so that they can make amends and make the space more inclusive to everyone.”
I know there isn’t anyone that you can fully trust, but DnP have always shown capacity for kindness, acceptance and inclusion (as a trans person, I noticed over the years how they became more and more trans inclusive with their language, which was nice to see), especially with their recent support for Palestine which so many other creators have not bothered to even talk about, so I want to hold out hope that they would genuinely want to make up for what they’ve done, and I really hope they do. We all hope that. In the meantime, it’s up to us a phandom to make the space more inclusive to poc fans and to allow this conversation to happen without getting scared or angry or defensive.
I’d also like to point out, even though I know that this isn’t in any way related to the conversation at hand, that I was personally disappointed by a tour announcement because I knew I wouldn’t be able to go. Even though the most basic tickets are technically cheap, they’re still not accessible to a lot of poor people, and considering the UK is going through a cost of living crisis right now, it was certainly a bit of a slap in the face. I will admit, I was incredibly surprised that Dan put WAD on YouTube for free, so there is obviously a growing understanding on their part that their tours aren’t accessible to everyone, so I’m hoping they’ll find a way to make this new tour accessible, but I still think this tour has a problem with exclusivity in a LOT of different areas, as you’ve pointed out. I have friends from different continents who have complained about the exclusivity of the tour, even from friends who are in Europe (but aren’t in the more Western parts of Europe; there are no shows in Greece for example, despite the fact that there’s a large number of English-speaking phans in Greece).
One last thing I want to mention, though, I saw an anon talk about the subtitles on their videos. I have sensory processing issues, and I’ve always found that their videos have proper subtitles on them. I’m not sure whether I’ve missed some videos, but I’ve watched a substantial amount of their content and I haven’t found the subtitles to be a problem, so I’m wondering if perhaps the subtitle issue might be an individual issue instead? Again, I really don’t want to assume if I’ve got something wrong, but for me personally, DnP are one of the only YouTubers I’ve been able to trust to have proper subtitles on the majority of their videos, so that ask confused me. If anyone’s able to clear up that confusion, I’d appreciate it, because I don’t want to misrepresent someone else’s experiences just bc they don’t match mine.
Anyway, I’m really sorry for the long ask. Again, thank you for bringing this all to light, and I really hope things improve. I will always love Dan and Phil, and I trust that their hearts are in the right place the majority of the time, so I really do hope they grow from this. I’ve seen genuine growth from them over the years already, but there’s still a way to go, and none of us can shy away from it no matter how much we want to.
Stay safe, and have a nice day!
I'm glad I can be the one to shed light on racism and normalize talking about it in this community. Back when we weren't able to have this discussion properly, I would have never expected people to ever understand or accept me in this community again. I was told by many of my well-intended friends who've been here longer than me that the only way to move forward was to make peace with the racism that was happening here. (And don't get me wrong, they meant well and they’re a very good friend of mine for that. They didn't have to support me when I was at my lowest, when I was so damaged from it I could hurt them so easily. But they did it anyway because they cared. Some of them may not even share the same worldview as me, but that has never been a barrier for them to reach out and say they support me.) What I'm trying to say is, that the phandom was that bad before: The only way to survive as a poc who's being oppressed by this community in the past was to shut up about our experiences, or leave.
So when I saw your ask, able to articulate a full understanding of the situation of what's going on here, it feels like I had served my purpose. For the past fifteen years of this fandom's existence, we have never been able to talk about this until now. And yet, me and other blogs talking about this have managed to make an impact, enough to make us finally open up about it. A lot of you feel safe enough that you no longer chose to go anon by it now. That is fucking amazing. I hope that it has been healing and educating for all of you, and that we as a community will be able to move forward in the right direction this time :)
As for the subject of subtitle issues, I would admit I don't know a lot about it too much, since I never have to use it. From what others have said in the tags, it seems older videos had proper subtitles, thanks to the free community captioning. But ever since the hiatus, everything has been all over the place and they might not have that proper system to rely on anymore?? I don't know much, so if anyone is interested in expanding more on the subject, or more to where the op of this ask can be coming from, I would love to hear more. We should know what exactly happened so we can bring this to dnp to see where we can improve. (Also, I’m glad that ask opens more discussion about this now. And I didn’t realize it’s disability pride month, yay!)
[ID/ a banner with light blue sparkly background; the disability pride flag slides in from the left and darker blue text pops in reading "Make some noise for Disability Pride Month!!" /end ID]
Banner by dapg-otmebytheballs
Auto-message: This ask’s purpose is to acknowledge dnp’s past/present exclusivity, not to cancel them! But to embrace mistakes that they’ve made so that 1. we won’t exclude people in need in this community, and 2. we can normalize bringing up exclusivity so that improvement can happen. Hopefully this will one day help dnp realize that this is a safe space for them to talk about their mistakes, so that this space can become safe for people of all kinds too <3
*If you don’t understand what is happening, scroll through my blog for context. And I’ll be taking time to answer my asks, so don’t think I’m ignoring youuu*

I am. Quaking over Crowley and Hanna cause AUGH they're so adorable. Getting up into antics! What do you think some of their adventures would be? Chaos at the nursery garden stores? Lurking in woods to find creatures? Sorry I just really wanna know.
"Can we get a 'wahoo'?"
First off thank you for the perfect reason to post this sketch!
I cannot even begin to imagine the terrors they rain on the general public tbh. Between Crowley still feeling jilted and Hanna feeling free for the first time, the limit is really their imaginations (of which they both posses quite a fair bit).
In fairness since this little au I'm simmering takes place pretty soon after the end of s2, they probably don't do a lot of REALLY outlandish stuff for a while. They'll stay local, probably spend time with Nina and Maggie and probably end up meeting the Them at some point. Crowley would also probably want to try and keep inconspicuous (hah) with heaven and hell looming over their heads and now with a squishy thing to protect. I LOVE the garden center chaos idea btw, shoutout anon, and Crowley's little pseudo Eden is definitely going to rapidly expand into a vibrant and terrified indoor oasis (skylights included). Shops in general are going to have to watch their backs (Crowley has a reason to go into many of them quite frequently now, and without his celestial counterpart to keep him from goofing off too much). Hanna is a big fan of the classic "run down the aisles of a toy store and rapidly push every single button you find" method of spreading foment.
Since Hanna hasn't had an opportunity to see/experience most of the world, I imagine they spend a LOT of time popping through museums/zoos/aquariums/etc. Crowley pointing out things he caused, things an... old friend caused, things that actually happened way differently but got recorded wrong. Hanna dragging her dad around and both of them getting WAY too into reading the information plaques for all the animals. Then seeing which animals freak tf out if her dad flashes his eyes. (The giftshops get terrorized if there arent enough fungus-themed objects, although there is always miraculously at least one). They probably break into a lot/if not most of the exhibits after hours to take selfies for Crowley's rapidly growing photo album. Hanna sits at the shark touch tank and loudly proclaims how smooth they are. And since im a sucker for I-Want-To-Share-The-Stars Crowley, they probably pop over to an observatory or break into idk, where they keep the telescope on the Canary Islands or something. And he'll tell her what he remembers about the Creation and what it feels like to hold a new star in your hand. Hanna will curl up against Crowley's chest and get lost in his voice and the distant glitter of a world her dad designed. They probably also commit crimes. Not major crimes, mind you, although that's due more to Crowley's occasional sense of "as a parent i probably shouldn't let you" than any unwillingness on Hanna's part. But she'll definitely help him move signs or infiltrate office buildings and other assorted sabotages. She 100% gets her own little version of the Fuck Shit Up Jacket, and whether he likes it or not the Bentley has decided Hanna gets to pick the getaway music.
It doesn't really count as demonic but Crowley DOES keep a bag of spare change and googly eyes for Hanna to glue to things at will while they're out.
But tbh i imagine the most trouble she gets into is if she's left alone with Muriel. Evidently Hanna has her father's talent for tempting angels into misbehaving or at least into not noticing that they are, in fact, misbehaving in the human sense. Crowley usually feels almost bad for the baby angel but, needs must. and sometimes he needs a babysitter. The rule is SUPPOSED to be that if Hanna is with Muriel, they DO. NOT. LEAVE. the bookshop (they always leave the bookshop).
At one point she meets a boy named Kian at a pub called the New Inn. Crowley very desperately wants her to not want to spend time with Kian for reasons he refuses to explain 💕
At any rate if anyone ever wants to write or draw anything with Hanna they're more than welcome to and also I'll probably cry a lot so Cheers! Thank you for the ask (apologies for my signature long-winded answer)!

i saw a comment from somebody on facebook who said that gemini norawit said on his instagram that my love mix-up is going to be the last series he's going to do a ship with fourth nattawat because he wants to focus on doing a straight ship with, who we're all assuming is, prim chanikarn, since they're starring in the dark dice together. but the whole issue with this is that i can't find anywhere on his instagram that he said this so i can't say how credible the factoid actually is.
buuut~ looking back on it, how gemini portrays his characters when shipped with fourth, i feel like... fourth carries the weight of the majority of their on screen chemistry. gemini mostly looks really awkward showing romantic feelings for fourth's characters. even when doing fan service, he seems to be a bit more on the awkward side and pulls away or dodges fourth's advances. he could totally just be playing into this shy persona but i still feel like gemini doesn't feel entirely comfortable in his ship or maybe portraying queer characters - now that's not to say he isn't queer in some form or at least an ally, he is what he is and that's nobody's business but his own.
i guess i just hope that gemini doesn't feel awkward portraying a character in a queer relationship and that's just his style of acting. time will tell when this new series comes out and we see how he acts paired with a girl in comparison.
hi anon! hmm this is interesting.
first of all, i’ve never seen gem say that mlmu is his last project ever with fourth so if you ever find the source of that info pls lmk!! i do remember him saying in an interview that he would like to do a series with a straight ship because he had already acted with a boy, so now he wants to act with a girl (what an incredibly bisexual statement LOL) but i didn’t take that as him saying he didn’t want to do bl anymore.
it has honestly never crossed my mind that geminifourth might divorce soon. to me, their gmmtv’s latest It Boys yaknow. it makes sense to me that they would lead other series separately so gmmtv can take advantage of their massive fandom and individual popularity but i still expect them to work together in the future. also. gemfourth are besties, they have a lot of fun working and playing together, and they flirt all the time whether they’re promoting a series or not hahaha. like yes their dynamic is definitely We Are Best Friends I Love You My Bro but that's typical of gmmtv pairs, and they're still having fun being an established pairing.
i believe we're in an era where actors in branded couples can do separate projects and then come back and do bl. i know with past divorced gmmtv couples like BW or ON, that's not the case, but those are specific circumstances. i mean...we're getting a kristsingto bl in the next year, honestly anything is possible.
personally, i’ve never felt that gemini was uncomfortable acting as queer characters or being in romantic scenes with fourth. in general, fourth is more experienced and more comfortable as an actor than gemini is. we know that fourth was probably gemini's first kiss ever and that gemini was really shy during msp because he has never been in a relationship before, i think some of his "discomfort" can be explained by that. i also just think gem has only ever played awkward/inexperienced characters, like his awkwardness or nervousness makes sense to me as heart or as tinn.
there are actors out there who have been ashamed of or uncomfortable working in bl, and obviously there's a lot of nuance within that topic, but to me, gemini doesn't align at all with those attitudes. i agree that at times, gem can be shy doing fanservice, but like you said, he's playing into that shy personality to match fourth's boldness and to be fair, fourth is VERY affectionate and likes to tease and surprise gemini. there are lots of times where we can see gem being affectionate with fourth (and with other male actors), and it seems like he really enjoys and values working with fourth and being in bl series.
at the end of the day, gemini is still so young and it's very early in his career. we haven't seen him acting at all outside of his bl roles and he overall doesn't have much experience as an actor yet—i think he's very much still finding his feet, so it's not really fair to make generalizations about his acting style. i personally think gem is a lovely actor, his portrayals of tinn and heart mean a lot to me, and his chemistry with fourth is great. i would be interested in hearing back about your thoughts during/post-mlmu and when gem's future projects are released ^__^
#thanks for ur ask ~~ hope it's ok i wrote a mini essay in response lol#gemini norawit#mint answers#anonymous#also i was going to go off on a tangent about fanservice personalities and like. how that's separate from their characters in a series#but also not necessarily a reflection of their irl relationships/personalities#but that's not what u were asking abt lmao maybe another day

Both Tia and Midnight froze when they saw the simple pebble. Midnight called out in an astonishingly loud voice, “Guards! Assemble before your Princesses! Witness the trial under the Royal Wing of Guard Sargent Hemlock!”
Wind recognized the guard as he was getting to his feet. He was one of the two that their leader had stopped from entering the camp earlier.
Tia ordered, “Remove all weapons from Hemlock, no longer a Royal Guard. Strap his wings.”
Two of the Guard stepped forward, secured his wings and removed all weapons from him, even searching his pouches and saddlebags.
He unwisely snapped, “You can't do this! I was minding my own business, just starting a little sling practice and you nab me for trying to improve my preparedness!”
In an utterly calm voice, that betrayed a volcano about to erupt, Midnight called, “Guard Major Hawkwing, do you know Hemlock's testing scores from the Manual of Rom Custom and Belief?”
The leader of the guards rummaged in a saddlebag and produced a ledger. Examining it, he replied, “Hawthorn scored 98 percent on the Rom testing. I assume that this relates to Rom beliefs in an afterlife and burial customs?”
Voice tightly controlled, Midnight stated, “It does.”
“According to the ledger, he missed none of those questions.”
“This question is for the whole formation. Were you briefed on why we came to this particular Wayside?”
In a ragged chorus, the Guards replied, “You are returning to the Lake of Shansa Na Kili, a long time friend, to Lay the Stones for her.”
Tia could see that Midnight was holding back with great difficulty and interposed for her, “What is the penalty for the desecration of any Wayside burial?”
“Twenty years at hard labor on the Royal Roads of Equestria or other labor as assigned by Your Highnesses.”
Hemlock could see where this was going. He demanded, “All this for ONE lousy pebble? I can just go over to the road there and get you another rock! What is so important about this one?”
Holding her composure by less than a hair, ears laid back and lips snarling back from fangs, Midnight, Princess Luna, growled, “When we closed Shansa's Gateway to the Lake of Paradise, I LAID THAT PARTICULAR STONE MYSELF! Your lack of respect for any custom but your own, we accept. Your VANDALISM and DESECRATION of graves whose custom you know, whether you share the belief or not, we will not tolerate!
“Hemlock is VACANT! The Barony shall be filled according to the Law of Succession. The goods, accounts and all other personal things belonging to Wiltin, late Baron of Hemlock, shall be distributed to his heirs according to the Law of Equestia.
“Guard Major Hawkwing, detail two of the Guard to escort the prisoner in chains to the Royal Road Police station at Haymarket Road Section gate to begin serving his twenty years of hard labor.”
As Wiltin was led away to the jingle of chains, Midnight turned to Wind and asked plaintively, “I am so sorry that you had to see that, Wind. What must you think of us?”
Wind did not even pause, but answered back in Gyptian, “I see that you love Shansa very much. I also saw that, what was his name? Wiltin, knew that he was breaking long standing laws when he did that. He was counting on that bit about it being one lousy pebble to make it a minor infraction. I suspect that it would not have mattered which stone he took. I don't blame you. You simply defended a friend who could not defend herself.”
Midnight gathered her into a hug with her magic and wrapped a big dark blue wing around her as well. Wind felt amazingly safe and comfortable in that hug. Slowly, she became aware of the nature of the wing holding her, lifted free of those Rom sashes and harness.
Looking in wonder at Midnight, Wind stammered, “You, you are an alicorn! From what I have heard, that makes you a Princess on this world.”
Midnight chuckled. “Here we were throwing our weight around as Princesses when Wiltin messed up but it took my wing to tip you off that I can be royalty?”
Wind pursed her lips and carefully pulled the large wing close before replying, “Actually, I had already put it together that you are royalty but my startlement had a different cause. I had a dream last night about the house that I was born in and the graves of my parents. The color of your wing tied into the dream. It was part of my very first adventure. And a very good memory.”
Midnight smiled gently. “I am gladdened that you have such a good memory of your first adventure and that it is somehow connected to me.”
Tia put in, “We have heard that you are learning to bake after our fashion. Would you be so good as to roll out the dough so that we can fill the shells?”
For an answer, Wind simply picked up a roller and started rolling out, dusting with flour, folding and rolling again and again the pastry shells to make many fine layers that would rise up and make a puffy pastry around the fillings.
As fast as a shell was ready, it got filled and put to bake by Hanar who was happily chattering away about all the things that the band had been doing for some time past. Wind listened carefully, though she understood that Hanar was not talking to her. She was pausing in her chatter to listen to answers or comments that no other horse or pony heard.
Wind took a moment to whisper to Midnight, who was closest, “Didn't you want to visit with Shansa too?”
Tia overheard and, while kneeding up some more Ka'chek dough, replied, “Hanar is her daughter. Our questions can wait.”
Wind's adventure trained hearing caught the Guard Major Hawkwing saying, “Halt! Sargent Greenforest, you must not enter the Rom camp without invitation.”
There followed something too quiet to make out, followed by, “You just saw what happened to Hemlock! He knew that he was violating the Manual of Rom Custom by that idiot stunt. Going to set them straight about dead is dead could land you in the same boat! What do you mean which boat? The one going over a waterfall with rocks at the bottom! At least as far as your career is concerned.”
There was a pause before he went on, “Let me tell you something, Greenforest. I have been on this duty for more than seven years. Everything will be normal, as much as anything is normal around the Rom. Then, you will see something utterly uncanny. If you are smart, you will figure out that the Rom are way more than Fair going attractions and wanderers.”
Wind quietly filed away the notion that the Rom customs regarding the dead were not universal here. Her revere was cut short by Midnight giving her a new lump of dough.
“Here, Wind, this dough is for your pasties. We added some blood and a shortening from meat to make it tastier for you.”
Wind set to rolling it out with a will! She was surprised when Hanar set about filling her pastries and putting them to bake without any trace of the squeamishness that most of the band exhibited around any sort of meat.
Hanar noticed Wind watching her. She smiled and offered, “See, Mother? Even our new member has noticed. I felt so helpless when you went to the Lake. Not even Marchhare, Hoof Dancer and Black Lotus could keep you here with us. They did try, though. Now I am studying with them to be a healer like they are. It won't stop me from weaving, any more than it stops Hoof Dancer from being the finest dancer among the Rom.”
Hanar continued her happy chatter while she was watching the baking pastries.
Wind, finished with the dough rolling, looked over the work to be done and began washing up. She was surprised to find both Midnight and Tia working along side her.
The quiet slopping of the soapy water and then the rinse made a soothing rhythm.
Midnight said softly, “I do hope that you will forgive my intrusion, but I have been using a Bridge of Dream on you. I wanted to see why your Mama Dragon had you staying here with us for a month, when your wounds will be healed in only another day.”
Not at all alarmed, Wind leaned over and nuzzled her dark blue fur before asking, “Did you find out what you needed?”
“I do believe so, Wind. I think that what you are to get from the Rom is the same precious thing that my Sister and I get. A stable and accepting family.”
Wind slowly nodded. Thinking over all that had happened since she arrived, she had to say, “I hope that you are right. I had not even realized it, but that is what I am feeling. Actually cared about by more than my Mama Dragon. Maybe that is why I dreamed of my kittenhood home.”
“That could be the reason, Wind. Now, these last few pots won't rinse themselves.” They got quietly busy. Soon the last one was set to dry.
Tia raised her voice in a happy trill! “The feast is ready! Let us Lay the Stones and show Shansa those new things and accomplishments that we have done since we last visited her Lake!”
All of the Rom came forward to surround a place just outside of the Wayside. They all waited for Hanar to step forward first. As she did, Wind felt the tug of her magic pulling her gently forward too.
Hanar knelt both of her forelegs and her magic placed a beautiful nearly clear agate with fine mosslike dendrites in it at the center of the grave or Lake, as the Rom called it.
Wind was shaken and shocked by emotions as she saw Shansa's Lake covered with many pretty stones of little value but shining in the sun.
Eyes blinking back tears, she whispered, “Shiva. Donovan. They remember you and care for you, too.” Swallowing hard, she laid her small reddish carnelian alongside Hanar's agate. Hanar's magic softly helped her to make way for old Marchhare.
Wind sat, shivering with tears as the others all Laid their Stones. Tia and Midnight waited to the last. Midnight Laid her Stone and said, “Flowers fade. These Stones will stay bright for so long as there are Rom to remember Shansa Na Kili.”
Wind looked up, eyes swollen by tears, and reached into her bag of holding. She laid out two large, iridescent feathers. One white, almost opaline in appearance, the other of the deepest blue, like a midnight sky.
She shook her head, trying to get her thoughts into order. “I found these in my kittenhood home.” She sniffled, “And somehorse has been Laying the Stones for my parents, Shiva and Donovan. They were killed protecting me. The beast that did it was slow to pursue me, giving me the start that I needed to get away. I fell off a cliff. That is what happened to my arm.”
The others nodded in quiet acceptance. The condemnation that Wind feared for interrupting the ceremony was not to be found in any eye.
Instead, she saw the deepest sympathy. “I hope that I did not spoil your Laying of the Stones,” she ventured.
Hanar nuzzled her and snorted, “A tale like that, backed up by real evidence? What Mom wants to know is how you survived the fall. You didn't finish the story.”

I swear your commentary on posts is hilarious af 🤣☠️ These video and photo edits are so cool too. Is there a reason why you don’t post more to Twitter (not that you have to, just an observation)? Thanks for everything
Hey 👋🏾💜 Thank you for the kind words. Y’all need to stop gassing me up. My dad jokes/ corniness will know no end lol.
With my Twitter page, sometimes I question whether or not people think I’m stealing work from this Tumblr page bc both my pfp and handles are not the same 🥲 I made my twt before I made this side blog so the handle and pic was a quick “slap together” choice. The phrase “be f*cking for real” is too funny to me so I just ran with it. And then my brain was completely uncreative and was like “namor-shuri” will do rofl. Hopefully people understand by now that I’m the same person, but alas.
To answer your question, I think it’s broken up into two parts. One chunk of it is that I rant A LOT so this platform makes it easier for me to do so while also being creative with color fonts and all that jazz. I also just love the freedom of layouts and stuff like that. From a creative perspective, of course it doesn’t help that Tumblr messes with quality but what I lose in quality, I gain in possibilities [I swear I don’t work for Tumblr and this is not me promoting them rofl].
The other half of the pie is the stark difference of engagement on Twitter vs Tumblr, in my personal experience thus far. Like I said, I made my Twitter first back in late December of last year. It was kind of a random decision but once I realized I was super into the Namor x Shuri ship, I wanted to engage with the fandom more directly and pour into it. Since then, I’ve been able to have a lot of fun with making different artworks, edits, videos, playlists, you name it! Ya girl has been BUSY to say the least lol And what’s been dope is that this fandom has been a fun outlet outside of my professional artwork and stuff like that. All that being said, what slowly became apparent to me was that I wasn’t feeling as included or apart of the fandom as I initially hoped I would. I would try and engage with people or joke here and there and most of what I would get back was crickets, whether it would be on my own posts or my commentary on others. And to be fair, I know it takes time for people to get to know you and build community but it just felt slightly strange. Especially when I would see new pages pop up and everyone would immediately flock to engage with them. I say this to say that absolutely NO ONE owes you anything in life so to be upset that someone isn’t your friend [whether it’s in person or online] is a human experience but you have to understand that not everyone is going to jell with you. There are billions [billions? *does quick google search] of people on this planet. Someone is bound to hate you, while another will worship the floor you walk on. Someone’s going to think you’re okay, while you being your raw and authentic self makes another person’s day. It’s nothing personal. It’s simply a numbers game. So inherently I understood that but it still hurt the 3 year old in me that was just trying to make friends at the playground, you know? lmao But I think what set it off was when I would look up and then see my edits used for people’s banners, fan art, post ideas, etc without asking me or giving me any credit knowing that they also aren’t following me or even engaging with me in any way. It still wasn’t cool but I think what would have made the whole thing feel a little different is if I was more “in the group” but because I’ve been on the outskirts the majority of the time, it just made it sting that much more.
Then I started to get slightly paranoid and wondered if I was missing something. Did I do something wrong? Did I say something that was off? I felt like a message was being sent and that confused the hell out of me [and lowkey still does]. BUT SOB STORY ASIDE lol I brushed my shoulder off, switched gears and thought “f*ck it, let me make my own side blog and do my thing on there” and that worked for me! I got traction after that, people were responding to my stuff and throwing in their own ideas/commentary/analysis etc. I felt like I could engage with people more, even with the limitations Tumblr puts on side blogs. And just the whole vibe overall started to feel really f*cking good. The funny thing too is that I’ve noticed that a lot of Twitter is on here and vice versa so it’s the same folks but for some reason I think this platform has opened up more possibilities for engagement in my experience. Twitter lends to a wider audience than Tumblr unfortunately but I’ve accepted my humble abode on here.
This rant is getting super long so I’ll end with this; I have nothing against the Nashuri fam on Twitter. Just because I’m not necessarily apart of the “crew” doesn’t mean that I don’t find everyone hilarious or amazing in any way. If you think I’m funny anon, you need to read what these girls say because it is SUPERB *chefs kiss* The talent from artworks to fics to think pieces and everything in between is incredible and oozes from that community. But for me, I think I just haven’t found my footing or people over there and as much as it’s been a bummer, I’m still going to be on there to support the dope stuff that comes out of it. I also want to say that just because this has been my experience doesn’t mean it will be yours. I fully encourage you to branch out on different platforms and try and engage with as many people as possible [fandom or not]. I think I just got my finger burned once and immediately gave up rofl. One of the biggest blessings that have come out of the Nashuri fandom in general is it’s vast bipoc community. As a black woman myself, I haven’t experienced this level of inclusivity when it comes to race, gender, language, culture, ages etc in other fandoms. It’s beautiful and I will always be thankful for that.
I also want to drive home that everyone needs to find what works for them. You owe yourself that. If you feel like your aren’t getting what you desire out of Instagram, move to Twitter and see what happens. If Twitter isn’t cutting it, move to Discord. Move to Tumblr, you name it! I think that move for me made a HUGE difference and honestly made me feel better about being in this fandom in the first place. And also this just goes for life in general but just because you might not feel included somewhere doesn’t mean you or the place is a problem. You might just need some scenery change.
Ps: If you are in the fandom and are on Twitter, definitely hit me up and add me! I would love to be mutuals. I’ve seen some familiar accounts from Twitter add me on here and vice versa and it’s been really cool. I appreciate the blogs that engage with me on there and all that jazz. I’ve never had a Twitter before so I’m lowkey new to that world still but grandma’s getting the hang of it slowly but surely.
Thank you 💘
#nashuri#we just got a letter#I realized this is the first time I’ve actually put this feeling into words#I was really thinking about this question like wait why don’t I post on twt more lmao#nothing on the twt girlies#y’all are bad bitches#I’m just clearly not in the squad#and thats okay 🤷🏾♀️#you win some you lose some

Eh about the reboot thing I think its wrong to assume that one has to care for it in the first place - for example I liked Shaman king and especially Samurai X (even if its sad how horrible the author turned out to be...) - yet I just didnt bother watching them and dont feel like I lost anything - maybe its because I dont really look into the fan discourse of those shows as I do with Soul Eater.
That’s fair.
I sure as hell am not going to give Rurouni Kenshin another try, I feel badly for people who worked on that series (especially actors) who had nothing to do with the creator--and I look side-eyed at certain creators (Oda) who can't muster enough criticism and seem to be actually supporting the fucker.
But let me put it another way to clarify where I’m coming from, as I’ve had enough years to think about what I would do if a reboot happened.
On the one hand, yeah, I don’t have to watch, write about, reblog, or otherwise engage with a Soul Eater reboot. For the sake of my time and health, if I have such an adverse reaction against even the idea, then it doesn’t hurt me or anyone else to skip watching it.
On the other hand, however foolish this may seem, I do want to see this blog through to whatever conclusion it ever has, and I don’t think I can keep the blog running without engaging with a reboot, for however little time I can. If I honestly just hate even a minute of it, then I tap out and fulfill the small obligation I set for myself. I wanted to set out to make a Soul Eater blog, it is a project that I get to keep working on, and I want to see it to its end, whenever that time comes.
Also, I think I’m being pessimistic to the point of being annoying. I doubt the majority of fans or even a potential audience is this negative and is more likely willing to give a reboot a try.
Yes, I have to do what I think is best for me, but I also don’t want to ignore valid potential counter-arguments. I should listen to what friends, frequent submitters to this blog, and those artists, writers, analysts, essayists, chroniclers, and others in the fandom whose opinion I respect all have to say, not to overwhelm my own thoughts by drowning in a sea of other people’s takes, but because, again, I respect what they have to say and am willing to listen to their insights only after I actually engage with the primary text myself. All of these people have shown over and over that they understand what works in this series, and sometimes I get to figure out what works in the series only because these people were already literally explaining it to me.
And, where I disagree with these people, I hope I would at least hear them out. I mean, this is just a comic turned into an animated series, that is one of the few things I think people can agree to disagree on (except for the dealbreaker stuff: Chapter 113 and all the stuff Ohkubo did with Tamaki’s story is still pretty bad and a horrifying hint about his philosophy about girls, women, sex, and humanity).
So, I hope I would give the reboot a chance--even if all I do is look at a trailer or a still image or a GIF on Tumblr and say, “Wow, this looks awful to me, this doesn’t work for me, no thanks.”
(I’m already behind on enough other reboots, continuations, sequels, and remakes to watch. I fell off of Spice and Wolf--if just because I really think they should have hired a new director and studio...Massive content warnings there.)
I guess I am stuck still thinking I have to be a completionist and see things through to the end. But I do wonder whether there will be some "official" iteration by Ohkubo, Square Enix, BONES, Kodansha, or some other related party that is too poorly handled and finally makes me say, "I'm done, no more."

tagged by: @carlossainzzzz (thank you so much 🥺 ♡︎) - i love being tagged in anything!!!
who is your favorite driver?: oh gosh tough question... this tends to change at some point but most commonly, contrary to the username, it would have to be lando norris.
do you have other favorite drivers?: of courseeee! multi-stan in this house! mick schumacher (obvi), his dad (obvi), oscar piastri, carlos sainz, charles leclerc, yuki tsunoda, alex albon, jenson button (hehehe)... i like most of the current grid tooooo
who is your least favorite driver?: esteban ocon comes to mind. fuck he scares me. i feel like his competitiveness is truly on a whole different level, and given the right car, he'd be terrifying. don't let that squirrel face fool ya. bit iffy on danny too.
do you pull for drivers or do you like teams as well?: i love both! team dynamics are some of the best things to watch and hear.
if you like teams, what team do you pull for?: i've been a long standing mercedes fan (since i started lol) but since around last year, i have been converted into a mclaren fan!
how long have you been into F1?: since november of 2022, if i recall correctly. not that long but also feels so long ago???
what got you into F1?: literally beats me. i've been trying to scavenge what first got me into it... might have been a charles edit (real) or a clip of f1 on tiktok... or worse case, from british youtubers (looking at willne here).
do you enjoy fanfic/RPF?: i mean... this account wouldn't exist if i didn't so that is a big fat YES! i love being able to escape whether by reading or writing – of course in the appropriate boundaries.
how do you view new fans?: welcomed with open arms! as long as everyone maintains relatively tame delusions and are able to critically think for themselves, we should be fine! fans who genuinely think they're getting with the drivers, i think they need some help...
if you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why?: simple pick here. red bull. i hate christian horner with a fucking passion. i feel like that's reason enough lmao
are your friends and family into F1 as well?: my sister occasionally watches with me otherwise i have no friends (sad face) into f1 except my coworker that i've mentioned! we spent a majority of work talking about f1.
are you open to talking to other fans/making friends?: OMG YES PLEASE! if you can't tell, i'd love to talk to someone about f1 or anything for that matter. fair notice, i'm not always on and i'm pretty sure i'm in an entirely different time zone than most of you so we'll play a bit of tag but i'm entirely happy to have you in my messages!
i'm not sure who to tag bc as i said, i have like no friends but i shall tag some of my favourite writers:
@multiversesweets, @luvth0t, @landosjpg, @ln444, @disneyprincemuke, @lxclerc ♡︎
F1 Tag Game! Tag some people you'd like to get to know better!
Tagged by: No one, I'm a force to be reckoned with.
Who is your favorite driver?: George Russell!
Do you have other favorite drivers?: Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc - I like all but 3, really.
Who is your least favorite driver?: Sighs, I don't like admitting to this, but...It's a toss up between three. I'll just name one for now - Alonso.
Do you pull for drivers or do you like teams as well?: I pull for both, really!
If you like teams, what team do you pull for?: Ferrari, Williams, Alpine, McLaren.
How long have you been into F1?: I've watched casually (VERY casually) for a few years but I haven't actually FOLLOWED the sport until the start of this season.
What got you into F1?: My fiancé rekindled my love and got me and my entire family into it right after my grandmother passed literally days before the start of the season. He really brought us a lot of light in a time where we needed it most.
Do you enjoy Fanfic/RPF?: I do. RPF is just a fantasy play world, like a dollhouse. Holds no bearing on the real world - as long as you can separate the two, you're good.
How do you view new fans?: No issue. We were all new fans once, weren't we? Some may barge in with wild takes and hell I probably still do, but overall I think they are just looking to find some friends to help them learn the sport a bit better and then will be integral parts of the fandom once they acclimate!
If you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why?: That's such a stressful job and I am not built for stress. It would have to be like, jesus, I can't really pick. I would do no better than anyone up there doing it right now LOL but I guess it would be COOL to pull Williams up from the depths, yeah? Sorry, James.
Are your friends and family into F1 as well?: Yeah! My parents and sister (and BIL) are into it, my grandpa enjoys it, my fiancé, and then a few of my best friends really enjoy it as well!
Are you open to talking to other fans/making friends?: Always. That's pretty much the only reason I'm here aside from just showcasing my love.

Just giving my 2 cents to the "Rollo discourse". I have not read any direct TLs yet so I'm just gonna talk about what reactions I've seen so far.
Honestly, I think people are getting heated up way too early. Like, I know writing your thoughts and opinions on current events is how a fandom works but how the hell did this big quarrel came to be when not everything is out yet? Especially if one considers how the other villains have been treated until now.
...
People are absolutely justified to be wary of Rollo. His character is based on Frollo, who in turn is based on real history, people and sadly current reality. Racism AND religious trauma usually make a very difficult object to portray correctly. And considering it's not only Disney but also Japan working on this game, it is quite fair to be even more wary as there have been plenty of times, where such problems are downplayed or not taken seriously enough. Whether it be to ignorance or conscious intentions.
The other villains have done terrible things as well but they do have a more detached feel to them bc of whooooooo~ ☆magic☆ and all or it's just way too long back. And...
With that said, we've already seen how The Great Seven have been handled. Their legacy has been twisted but the truth has always been shown to Yuu and their corresponding characters have always learned to move on from their mistakes (without knowing it ofc). Not saying that Rollo is definitely going to become a good guy or that any wrongdoings are excusable bc of a tRagIc BAcKsToRy.
Riddle probably gave quite a few students a lot of anxiety and breakdowns, Leona almost turned Ruggie into sand, Azul made a lot of very shady and definitely gruelling deals, Jamil almost killed us and brainwashed a bunch of students, Vil almost poisened Neige, just to list some things here. All had their reasons but that doesn't strip them of their responsibilities.
Riddle vowed to maintain order in a more just and less tyrannical way, Leona tries to be more of a responsible leader to be proud of (for his dorm), Azul realised his unreasonable idea of revenge, Jamil learned to be more open again and to communicate to solve problems, Vil picked himself up again and realised his tunnel vision of success. All with the help of trusted friends (and Overblot Service inc.). (Btw if it wasn't already noticable, I haven't watched ch. 6 yet heheh....)
...
Now, this event is, well, an event. So Rollo might not get as much character development as the overblot gang or at all in the worst case. But how about we try to stay calm and just WAIT patiently until everything is out.
There is no need to attack any developers or fans of Rollo. The majority aren't in support of persecuting any Romani people or white racists. They just want to enjoy this new content of a beloved game and are aware of his delicate nature while having fun.
And there is also no need to attack any of those who feel uncomfortable with Rollo. Not everyone is a party pooper who wants to shit on this game given any opportunity. They just want to continue to enjoy this game they've become invested in and not see real life problems, maybe even personal trauma, handled in an a familiary unfair way in a game supposed to comfort them.
Everyone just wants to have fun and enjoy this cool game about hot and hilarious animefied disney character, so let's wait and discuss in a civil manner when the time comes ^3^) / 🌸 Haven't seen any yet but just to be safe, sending death threats and bullying people out of the internet is not accepteble E V E R!!! Fiction does have a certain effect on real life but your direct actions hold a much larger impact on real living breathing human beings.

Hello again, friends! My laptop isn't cooperating with me, so I won't be able to make a cut or add a photo since I'm making this post on mobile! I'll try and come back and make a more user friendly post once my laptop decides to work with me! (Cuz its nearly an hour past 5pm CST, when I said I'd post, I'm so sorry! I had to retype this all out on my phone TwT)
So without further ado, here are Zexal Week 2022's prompts!
Sunday, May 29th: Sports Day - Children's Card Games are the claim to fame for YGO, but in Zexal, we do sometimes see the characters in their gym class! From the springboard jumping over stacks, to the school's indoor pool, what other sports can you see characters doing? You can keep it simple and in-universe, or you can go as far as a full revamp of Zexal and make it a sports anime!
Monday, May 30th: Prank Wars - What characters are the most capable of shattering the peace, setting off a full on prank war? Who's participating? Who are unwitting victims, or amused, untouched bystanders? Does it stay simple? Do things get complex? Does someone take it too far?
Tuesday, May 31st: Mer/Maid - Its the last day of May! During May, 2 different common events in fandom take place: MerMay, and Maid Day (Held on May 10th in Japan)! As a send off to the month, use today to promote any Zexal content you made this month for those events, or make/share something new!
Wednesday, June 1st: Roadtrip - Its the start of the summer months, so we're celebrating with a roadtrip! Who's going? Where are they going? How long is it going to take? Are they making pitstops/small trips to see the sights along the way? Was it a spur of the moment trip? Was it meticulously planned to the most minuscule of details?
Thursday, June 2nd: Retro - YGO Zexal is set in a futuristic setting, but what if it was set in a more recent past? Zexal but 90's, 80's, 70's, hell even Roaring 20's? Whether or not you incorporate the card game or not is entirely your call!
Friday, June 3rd: Call to Attention - With nearly 150 episodes, Zexal definitely had a fair amount of time to introduce and explore different characters and concepts, as well give the fandom enough fuel for fan-theories galore! What is/are some aspects of the show you wish had been given more attention? Do you think a character should have been more fleshed out? Was there a specific direction you thought a plotline was going, only for it to go somewhere completely different? Was there one that just seemed to be dropped? Tell us your thoughts!
Saturday, June 4th: Free Day! - Just as it says: Do as you will, anything is fair game!
Extra Prompts:
A character(s) you relate to the most
Museum of Wonders
Coffee shop date
The Measure of a Life
Defying Gravity
We're Getting the Band Back Together!
"This is a retroactive nightmare."
"Here's to a night we'll never remember, with the people we'll never forget!"
"Lie after lie after lie, we all stopped counting the crimes. You know why we can't trust you, don't you?"
"Do you want to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate, or would you rather be the architect of what we might create?"
"All I wanted was you."
"I'm minor in a major kind of way."
-☆-☆-☆-☆-☆-☆-
Now, as usual, the prompts are not mandatory! They're meant more as a framework for those who prefer a guideline or structure! If there's something you'd prefer to do that is not mentioned here, then by all means, go for it! We're celebrating Zexal, and doing so in whichever way you feel is best is totally fine!
Not only that, but by no means is participation in Zexal Week limited to producing content! Likes and reblogs, even leaving comments on others' posts all count as contributing to Zexal Week! Even if you don't consider yourself a creator, your actions and support help make things possible!
In addition, while I am aware that fanfic and fanart are the most common forms of fan content, I encourage all types of content, AMVs/fancams, poetry, screencap edits, even simple posts or videos of you just talking about Zexal! OCs and Self-Insert characters are also totally acceptable!
That being said, if you plan on contributing content, I kindly ask the content you share be your own, and that you're not reposting someone's work, or at the very least, not doing so without their permission and/or passing it off as your own. "Credit to the Creator" does not fly here. Having commissioned someone to make content for you is fine, so long as you state/acknowledge it was commissioned, share who commissioned it, and confirmed with the creator that it is ok to share like that!
Additionally, I will accept mature works, so long as there are clear content warnings and proper tags.
Finally! I kindly ask that you use the tags "#Zexal Week" and/or "#Zexal Week 2022", cuz those are the tags I check to see people's content! In the past years, some people's posts fail to show up in the main tags, so feel free to tag this blog in your posts if you're concerned I might not see them!
Thank you for your patience, and again, I'll try and clean this post up when my laptop stops being rude to me! I'll see you all soon!
-- Krys 💙

im not here to put down what you said like the previous anon, but to be fair? unfortunately that's a common discourse in genshin, if not one of the main ones. i dont even have the energy to linger around the fandom than just enjoying the content without people barging in saying its wrong here and there. but also; you do have a point on the underage topic, which makes shipping... a lot more weird to see. not just with traveler whose misperceived as one, not when most other characters are literally their height and appearance. i think people differentiate it with the backgrounds they have, but then that doesn't give much of a strong excuse with what the traveler's been through.
and as mature as traveler can be (and insisted, too) only to be said that way? yeah, this makes the age topic in genshin way harder than it already is, and relating it to the next branching fixation being shipping. to that, i will sit down and sip in dismissive confusion and enjoy your genshin rambling and headcanons/theories 🧎 love your content btw!
i mean it’s not just a genshin problem, it’s a pretty widespread issue sadly. tho, in genshin’s case, the ambiguity of the Traveler’s maturity seems to be caused by a mix of Bad Writing where there are too many people on staff who have conflicting opinions on the Traveler and/or it is an intentional marketing decision to skirt around the issue of whether or not the main character of the game can be set up with any other. (i’m of the firm opinion that the ambiguity is Not Okay and it makes me very incomfortable)
thankfully the main game’s story has no romantic involvement whatsoever, it runs off of standard “the power of friendship and teamwork saves the day” type of storytelling. this means the stuff i have major bones to pick with are generally in optional side-material. that being said tho…
what makes the interactions with kaeya doubly troublesome and weird is that:
- kaeya is a guaranteed character everyone will have
- kaeya is written in such a way where he personally acknowledges the Traveler as a minor in the main story, not just his profile dialogue
- i have gotten other characters to higher friend grades and kaeya’s flirtatious behavior is not the standard, the game does not operate on dating sim rules (which im grateful of)
- the Traveler has told other characters contradictory information, asserting to some that they ARE old enough to drink and have drank, which makes it seem like they are deliberately avoiding drinking with kaeya
which means this is like. a Choice writers likely made with his character that is really unsettling and uncomfortable!! this isn’t even me getting into fan-space issues which i’ve gone over a million times, this is a problem in the game itself, and while i get that it may be annoying for people who’ve already heard about it to hear it again i’m like. a new-ish player and my interactions with the game are fresh for me, and i am gonna write about my own thoughts.
thank u for approaching me politely and yeah. i am just not interested in pairing characters where their ages are ambiguous at best, there are plenty of actual adult characters in the material for that sort of thing and besides, i think exploring the narrative and setting themes are much more interesting for me personally.
#tratser replies to stuff#genshin impact#alcohol mention /::/:;#i keep forgetting to tag that whoops

We’re Tired of Him
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Description:
It was pretty easy to dislike Damian Wayne. He was an arrogant, stuck-up brat. So when the Titans get a chance to gain blackmail material on him, they took it, along with his brother's eagerly joining in.
They couldn't wait to see the look on Damian's face when he realizes that they know every little secret he has. Who knows. Maybe they can finally get the brat to shut up or if they're lucky, they might be able to force him to quit being Robin.
Or that one time Damian's teammates and brothers decide to spike his drink so they could use Damian's secrets against him.

We’re Tired of Him (Part 1)
Wally does not remember a single time where the Titans have completed a mission without him feeling annoyed or irritated at Robin.
It wasn’t a secret to anyone in the superhero community that speedsters weren’t patient people. They had too much energy pent up in their system to sit still for more than five seconds.
Which is why you shouldn’t expect much from them when you bring them to a discrete, cover-ops mission.
Everyone knew that.
At least, everyone except Damian fucking Wayne.
Wally never liked the new Robin and he didn’t try to hide that fact.
He’d make snide comments behind the kid’s back, purposely being loud so that Damian knew what he thought of him.
Hell, he’s even told Damian straight to his face that no one liked him. But the kid wasn’t affected; he only dismissed Wally with a roll of his eyes and a simple ‘tt’.
As if Wally was nothing but an ant standing in his way.
It annoys him that the kid doesn’t respond to his remarks, but he doesn’t regret making them.
In his head, Damian deserved it.
Who in their right mind decides to abduct someone to force them to join a reincarnation of an old superhero team.
At least come up with a new name!
Wally never wanted to join the brat’s team anyways and he might’ve changed his mind and stayed in the end, but it still doesn’t change the fact that he was forced to be in it.
Despite the fact that the kid might’ve apologized, Wally still hasn’t forgiven him. And frankly, he thinks that he never will.
Especially if he kept it up with the attitude.
The moment the rest of the team stepped into the main lobby, he couldn’t stop the complaints that rolled off of his tongue.
“He’s such a brat,” he couldn’t help but growl out, the disgust clear on his voice. “Like how can someone be such a dick!”
Wally felt some of his anger vanish as his words caused the room to be filled with laughter. It was always nice to know that he wasn’t the only one that had a strong distaste for their team leader.
Though, to be fair, a lot of people didn’t get along with Damian Wayne. He knows for a fact that a lot of them just put up with him because his dad’s Batman.
The more Wally thought about it, the more he wondered if the brat actually had friends.
While Damian was rather close with Djinn, along with Superman’s son, Jon. They were also some of the sweetest people that he’s ever had the chance of meeting. So maybe they just felt bad for the kid.
It made sense in his mind.
After all; who in their right mind would want to be friends with Damian?
Emiko’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts, “What did the kid do now?”
He couldn’t contain the smirk that made its way onto his face, he loved it when they bonded over how much they disliked the new Robin.
And judging by how Emiko and Crush mirrored his expression, he knew that he wasn’t the only one that felt that way.
“He goes and gets mad at me for being incompetent or something. Like it’s not my fault I wasn’t raised by a crazy old hot assassin lady.”
Wally knew that he wasn’t being fair. That Damian couldn’t control how he was raised. And that there was a high chance that Damian could hear him- could hear them- tearing him apart.
But in the heat of the moment, he couldn’t bring himself to care. He wanted the brat to hear him. He wanted the kid to know that even if he was Batman’s son, a majority of them still didn’t like him.
That they only put up with him because they had to.
Not because they wanted to.
There’s a fucking difference between the two and Wally needs Damian to know that.
Crush jumped on the couch, imitating Damian’s pose as she mocked his words, “If you don’t halt your tongue you useless speedster, you will perish under my sword.”
She swung her imaginary sword into the air, pretending to slice Wally’s neck.
He played along, fanning his face as he forced his eyes to roll back before his back hit the soft cushions of the couch.
From the corner of his eye, he could see Djinn and Roundhouse trying to hold in their laughs.
He couldn’t say that he was surprised that they were so reluctant to make fun of their so-called leader, out of everyone in the Titans, they were the ones that tolerated the brat the most.
He saw Roundhouse’s eyebrows furrow in confusion, and he tried to hold in a groan as he heard the uneasy tone come out of his teammate’s mouth, no doubt feeling bad for laughing at the expense of ridiculing one of his favorite heroes.
“Why are you guys so mean to the small man?”
It was such an innocent question, but it made Wally’s blood fill up with such rage.
What they’re doing isn’t mean. It was well deserved. Plus, if Damian cared, he would’ve yelled at them already.
They’ve never been quiet when it came to mocking the youngest bat.
Emiko snorted, her dark hair framing her face, “Please, that wannabe is barely a man.”
He hid a smile, muttering a “That’s all he is, though. A wannabe.” as he stared at the floor.
A wannabe friend.
A wannabe leader.
A wannabe hero.
Sure Damian was trying, but that didn’t mean he was succeeding.
He would never be as charming as Nightwing.
He would never be as good of a fighter as Red Hood.
He would never be as smart as Red Robin.
He was just Damian.
The kid with the big attitude that everyone around him had to put up with.
Emiko leaned her back onto the couch, arms on the back of her head. “You guys wanna know what Roy told me,”
Wally found himself nodding, along with the others as she continued. “He said that even his own brothers don’t like him. They just put up with him to make their dad happy. Actually, probably even his own father doesn’t want him.”
“You’re probably right.” Wally laughed, not registering just how hurtful his words could be. “I mean, didn’t his mom just force Batman to take him. The guy probably didn’t have a choice.”
It wasn’t like what he said was wrong.
He remembers Dick complaining to him about it. How an assassin came out of nowhere with Damian and just gave him to Batman, who gave Dick the task of training the spoiled brat who just wouldn’t listen.
Those were Dick’s words, not his.
“That must be tough,” he heard Crush huff, “Being tossed around like trash.”
Wally found himself nodding in agreement, “He probably deserved it.”
Djinn cut in before his mouth said something he would regret, “That’s just plain mean.”
The look she gave him actually made him feel bad so he found himself muttering a quiet, “sorry” before sitting next to Emiko on the couch, who looked like she was holding in her laughter.
Roundhouse spoke up, drawing everyone’s attention towards the blue-skinned kid. “If you guys don’t like Damian so much, why don’t you just leave.”
Emiko only shook her head in amusement, “I’m still friends with you guys,” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world, “I’m not going to leave just because a kid is acting like- well, a kid.”
And even though Wally knew it was wrong. He couldn’t stop the dark thrill that curled up his stomach to know that even if Damian was the chosen leader for the team, he would never acquire the close bond that they all had with each other.
Crush rolled her eyes, “The kid’s a spoiled brat. And that’s it. No explanation needed.”
“I don’t get it. Why don’t you guys just try to get to know him more?” Djinn asked, “I know that he’s not as bad as you think he is.”
Wally held in the laugh threatening to come out of his throat- Damian Wayne? Not being as bad as he thinks he is.
If anything, Damian was probably worse.
Roundhouse bobbed his head in agreement, “Yeah, he’s usually pretty nice to me.”
Crush, Emiko, and Wally exchanged uncertain glances with each other.
Wally doesn’t believe it; Damian Wayne, being nice?
Are they even talking about the same Damian Wayne? The one trained by fucking assassins.
He knows for a fact that his brothers won’t believe it either. And out of everyone else in the superhero community, they’re probably the ones that know Damian best.
But then again, that was only because they had to spend the most time with him. Whether they liked it or not, Damian was a part of their family.
Wally found himself genuinely feeling bad for them.
Djinn tilted her head, “So will you do it? Actually, try to get to know him?”
Crush immediately shook her head, “Yeah. No.”
Djinn furrowed her eyebrows at the instant rejection, “But why not?”
“Damian is well- he’s just Damian.” Emiko intervened. “Even if we put in an effort, he might not put the same amount back.”
“Yeah,” Wally added on. “And unless he’s drunk and shit, we won’t get anything out of him.”
Crush raised an eyebrow at the two, “Why do you think we never invite him when we hang out?”
Roundhouse faltered, giving Djinn a hesitant look. “I just thought he didn’t want to join us.”
“That's probably true as well.” Wally pointed out. “If he did, he would tell us that he’d want to join, you know? He probably thinks that he’s too good for any of us.”
Djinn frowned in disagreement, but this time, she kept her mouth shut.
No one said anything for a while before he noticed Emiko turning to him, “About that comment you made, what if we did get the kid drunk?”
Roundhouse stared at the girl, eyes wide, “Is that even allowed? Or legal? Is that even legal? We’re superheroes. We can’t do illegal things.”
The archer shrugged, “I mean, yeah it can be legal. We just need a trusted adult’s consent. And lucky for us, two of his brothers are legal adults.” she met Wally’s eyes, “You know them better than any of us. Do you think they’ll allow it?”
Wally eagerly nodded, “They probably will. I’m ninety-nine percent sure that they don’t like him that much either.”
That was an understatement.
With all the complaining he’s heard from them, Wally had a feeling that they hate Damian even more than he did.
And he hated the kid a lot.
“Wouldn’t that be betraying his trust?” Djinn asked.
Crush leaned forward, her eyes full of mischief before it quickly disappeared as soon as she met the young girl’s eyes, “Let me tell you a secret, this is something Damian might call a training exercise.” she slowly explained to the two youngest heroes, “In a way, we’re technically gathering information on our target. And in this case, our target is Damian.”
Wally could tell that they were close to convincing them so he softly added on, “Plus, isn’t this technically just a faster way for us to get to know Damian? That’s what you wanted.”
The girl nodded, her lips pursed, and after a few minutes she spoke up, “Okay, let’s do it.” her eyes soon grew troubled. “But what if his brothers end up saying no?”
The speedster waved off the girl’s concerns. “Don’t worry,” he smiled, “This is an opportunity that they probably won’t be able to decline. Trust me.”
Wally’s was confident that they’ll agree to it.
Roundhouse had the biggest grin growing on his face, “We finally get to know more about Robin!” he excitedly said, “He’s always by himself. And he’s quiet. Really quiet”
His eagerness died down, sadly looking at the floor. “Does this mean he doesn’t like us?”
Crush snorted, “I don’t even know kid, I stopped trying to understand the brat a while ago.”
Wally and Emiko nodded in agreement.
The only times they willingly interacted with Damian was on the field. Because even though the kid sucked; he definitely knew what he was doing.
Emiko took her phone out, “I’m pretty sure that the bats have a game night in their little cave tonight.”
The team stared at her confused, “What does that even have to do with the discussion?”
Emiko rolled her eyes, “What I’m trying to say is that all of Damian’s eldest brothers are in their little Batcave.” she spoke slowly like she was talking to a bunch of babies. “Together. Playing a game. Probably without Damian.”
Roundhouse caught on, “So all we have to do is go to the cave and ask them if we can get Robin drunk.”
“How do you even know that?” Crush asked Emiko.
“Roy talks.” The archer shrugged, “A lot… especially if it’s about Jason.”
Crush jumped out of the couch in excitement, “That means we might be able to do this tonight!” She pointed at him, “Wally, go!”
“Right now?”
“Obviously, you dolt.”
“Why me?” he cried out, “You know how protective the bats are of their precious little cave.”
“Wally, go,” she repeated.
He didn’t budge. “Batman will kill me.”
“Batman doesn’t kill.”
“If someone just randomly enters his cave, he will.”
Crush looked like she wanted to punch him, “Wally, I fucking swear. Aren’t you and Nightwing like besties?”
He shrugged, “I don’t know.”
“Just text the dude in advance,” Roundhouse suggested. “That way no one gets killed, and we get to learn more about Robin.”
Wally sighed, leaping to his feet as he spoke, his tone filled with faux-excitement. “Great, I can’t wait to go-“
His voice trailed off, noticing Damian walking in.
It looked like the brat was about to go use the zeta-tubes but he stopped, his head tilting as his gaze landed on the team, “Can’t wait for what?”
Wally looked around, his eyes desperate for an answer.
Luckily, Djinn answered for him, a bright smile on her face as she addressed Damian’s question. “We’re going to the movies! We wanted to do a bit of team bonding.”
That response made Wally want to laugh.
Don’t get him wrong, it was a believable excuse. It’s just-
He can’t even think of a single time that they invited their “leader” to a team hangout.
He wondered if Damian noticed the fact that they went out of their way to exclude him from everything except for missions.
And If he did, did he care?
His eyes watched as the kid nodded in acceptance. As if they even needed his permission to hang out.
Damian turned his back on them, calling out a “have fun” as he disappeared in a flash of bright light.
Well, that answered his question. Damian looked like he could care less. He didn’t even give them another glance.
He just immediately turned his back on them, walking away as if he owned the place.
It made Wally’s blood boil. Did the brat even notice that no one wanted him around?
He couldn’t wait and see just what secrets the brat hid underneath that perfect, little mask of his.
And Wally couldn’t wait to tear that mask apart.

Note:
guess who finally started writing the one fic that almost everyone was waiting for.
me!!!
To be honest, I was kinda confused on how I was going to write the events of “I’m fine” from the other’s POV, then I realized that I could just write it using multiple chapters, so that’s what I did.
I know that a lot of people were waiting for this version, so hopefully you guys end up liking this installment, and if you have any comments, suggestions, and feedback, make sure to comment on them.
Also, I feel like I need to mention that, yes- I know that some of the characters are “out of character” in a way. Though, Damian does receive a whole lot of shit from them in the comics so at the same time they kind of aren’t ooc, if that makes sense.
I genuinely just wanted to write a Damian Wayne whump fic that I can go back too and cry about later. So if you don’t like it, then just don’t read it. No need to waste your energy writing hate comments that I’ll probably only laugh at later.

Storytelling, Fate & Happy Endings
I’m still processing last nights episode (CR C2 Ep140), and much like every critter I’m SUPER emotional about it. But something about last night’s events and how they played out really got to me, not just as a fan but also as a storyteller. And even the day after, i was actually crying (still am crying in fact) more than i did last night watching it happen. At first i thought it was because i’m a fairly new critter and this is my first time watching a campaign come to an end. But the more i think about it and process, the more i realize that’s not just it. This effected me as someone who deeply believes in the power of storytelling and how it can not only effect but reflect the world around us. And because I have to get them out of my head, here are my thoughts on why last nights episode was so important, not just for CR fans but also as a an important narrative for right now.
...Yeah that’s a bit vague, isn’t it? Okay, let me explain. If you’re willing to take the time to read fellow Critters, I greatly appreciate it in advance. ^__^
WARNING: Major spoilers for CR Campaign 2 Episode 140 ahead. Also it’s gonna get kind of meta. And long. Because i have a lot of thoughts & feels.
So I think it’s fair to say that, as much as we would’ve been devastated by any of the M9 perma-dying in the last battle, part of us wasn’t expecting them all to make it out of there alive. Not even the players, I think, despite how much they likely didn’t want that to happen. Just look at the half-resigned way Liam talks about Caleb in the last few Talks Machina episodes. Or how, in game, Jester was fully prepare to die trying to stop the city from coming back. And for a while there, it seemed like some of them might not survive.
But then they did. Despite so many crappy rolls throughout the night they stopped Lucien, set free all the souls trapped in Aeor, saved Exandria, and brought each other back from the dead. Not only that, but they also did the impossible: They saved Mollymauk. Their lost friend who had such a deep impact on all of them even after his death. The delightfully charming asshole who was so full of joy and life and who, despite how the world treated him, was happily determined to leave every place better than he found it. Moreover, they almost didn’t succeed! But then they did, all because of teamwork, love and one last minute ditch effort ‘what-the-hell-have-i-got-to-lose’ dice role that none of them saw coming. And now they get to go home together, truly as The Mighty NINE.
Just this once, everybody lived! We got a happy ending!
And that’s HUGE in game...but also think for a second how that reflects outside of game too. Do you realize what a story like that means to people, especially given the year from Hell we’ve all had?
Think about it. This past year the world has suffered. We’ve all been impacted by the pandemic in some way shape or form, either on small levels or large. Our world has been at war with a virus that effected everyone and everything: Our sense of safety. Our health. Our economy. Our families & friends. Our freedom. (in the sense of our ability to travel & just be in close proximity to people without fear, but i digress) Deeply imbedded social and systematic diseases have been brought further to light in the past year and a half largely because of this virus. Some of us have lost people we love. Hell, the pandemic even effected the way that the latter half of Campaign 2 played out because of social distancing protocols. If you further compare this to Campaign 2, the world of Exandria was caught in the middle of a war that started because of social & systematic corruptions that had been rooted in two opposing kingdoms for years. And so many suffered and died because of it.
Then the Mighty Nein comes in. This ragtag group of delightful assholes with nothing to lose; these flawed but inherently good at heart and deeply human adventurers, broken and lost in their own ways, trying to make a home and family for themselves in a world that took advantage of them or left them alone or said they weren’t good enough...and they changed things.
They grew. They fought back. They found moments of silliness and peace and joy and fun amidst all the strife and sometimes grief. Most of all, they tried. Sometimes out of necessity, sometimes out of spite, sometimes even out of compassion, but mostly just out of love. And in the end, not only did they help people and stop a war for the sake of their loved ones, but they also saved their world from being destroyed by a rotted perversion of life from the past that threatened to consume everything they cared about. AND they STILL managed to bring everyone in their found family back to life. Does it erase the bad and sad things that happened to them? Hell no! But those things don’t negate the fact that in that moment, they made it out okay. That this was a victory and they won!
Think of what a story like that means to people right now.
I’m personally a pretty spiritual person, and much like our favorite clerics, I also believe in a higher power. But whether or not you also believe in a Divine being, the Universe or whatever, every D&D player believes in one thing: Fate. Luck. Call it what you will. But it was fate that made those dice rolls that saved everyone happen. It was fate that not only stopped Cognoza from returning, but also brought Jester and Caleb and Molly back to life, even when it seemed like it wouldn’t work. (and holy shit that gave me emotional whiplash!)
After everything they went through, both individually and together, the Mighty Nein defied the odd and demanded that Fate let them save their loved ones. They demanded that the world give them back their friend; That they deserved to have their happy ending & get to go home alive together. Just. This. Once.
As a writer, I know firsthand that there are some stories we find and create ourselves, but then there are stories that have a way of finding us. Sometimes a story or world or character from somewhere in the Aether will pop into our minds one day and say, ‘I need your voice to tell my story.’ Maybe this is just me getting carried away with the meta brain again. And like i said, i’m a spiritually inclined person, so I believe in things like Fate and a Divine Higher power writing out the stories of the Multiverse. If you’re reading this (and thank you for taking the time to do so) maybe you do too. Or maybe you don’t. Either way, if you’re a fellow critter, then you’re clearly a fan of good stories and/or playing Dungeons & Dragons. So you know how fate/dice roles have a big impact on the outcome of a story, regardless of how tightly written a setup the dungeon master makes. Given all that and how organically stories tend to play out in D&D, I genuinely believe that Matt Mercer and the whole CR Team were meant to be conduits for a story where the flawed heroes save the world AND all make it home alive.
And I think Fate knew that we needed last nights battle to end like this. After all the crap we’ve been through this past year, we needed this happy ending, deserved it even! Not just us critters, the CR team too. As much as we all like to joke that Campaign 2 was secretly scripted, we all know that’s not true. Yes, the setup storyline and world were brilliantly crafted by Matt, and the character roleplaying is beautifully acted out by the team. But the twists and turns, the direction it goes, and how the game plays out is all up to fated dice rolls just like any other game. And something, some kind of force of luck, some force of fate, some Universal Divine DM out there made the roles happen the way they did last night.
It gave us a happy ending.
I believe that this was meant to happen; now of all times with everything else going on in the world. Amidst all this darkness and rot, both in game and in the real world, in the end of it all there was light and life. A reminder that sometimes people do live. They do get second chances. They do find a new family or reunite with old ones. That sometimes the world can be saved for a time, and happy ending do still exist. Even if it’s not broadcasted on the daily news amidst tragedy reports, or even tragedies that don’t get reported (which sadly are a lot, but again i digress).
Because the thing is, like Beau said, no one else will probably know they were heroes. No one will know what the Mighty Nein sacrificed to save all of Exandria. But they don’t need to know that for it to still be true, for life to happen again, and for a found family of nine broken people who love each other to go home together safe. It doesn’t invalidate that the good things happened. That at least for today everyone was saved. That flawed people were still able to do good because they tried. That they left the world better than they found it and got their own small but satisfying happy ending. Even if only for now, because we don’t know what’s gonna happen next Thursday. We don’t know what the future will hold for the Nein or Exandria when the Campaign ends or even when (hopefully) some loose ends will be tied up in later oneshots. But neither that nor the bad and sad stuff that happened beforehand in the game and in the character’s lives invalidates the fact that tonight they won. They lived.
So why can’t that be true for us in the real world?
I said earlier that, as a writer, I believe in the power stories have to not only reflect but also shape our world. This story is an example of why, but especially this episode, and that’s why i was so euphoric about the outcome. It wasn’t just a game for me, and i’m sure for others too. It was a much needed reminder that happy endings can still happen in real life, just as much as they can in stories. Even when everything seems dark and corrupt and rotten and hopeless, we can still keep fighting. We can keep trying. We can make new families and start over and be heroes in our on little lives in small ways.
We can leave the world better than we found it.
And maybe, with hard work, imagination, luck and a little Divine intervention...we can also get the happy endings we deserve.

Didn’t Star Wars Use to Be For 12-Year-Olds…?
I guess anyone who follows me or reads my meta’s from time to time is aware that I love Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi to death. I really do. I will be eternally thankful to him for bringing back Star Wars’ magic after all of those years.
However for the last two and more years, I could not bring myself to decide whether it came up to the movie that until now is ranked as the saga’s best, The Empire Strikes Back.
And sadly, having thought about it for a while, by now I have to confess: no. It doesn’t.
I can’t forget something a friend of mine told me who had been to the cinema with her eight-year-old nephew: that he found The Last Jedi „boring“. The daughter of a friend of mine, who was a few years older when the sequels hit cinemas, said the same.
The faults in the new Star Wars movies have been plucked apart and discussed to shreds by now, and I’ve written my fair share about them, in particular after the disaster that was The Rise of Skywalker.
A major problem is, as I already wrote before, that we are left too much in the dark about what drives the characters. Though they are less confused than in The Force Awakens, in The Last Jedi their actual desires are still not defined enough: we mostly know what they want to avoid, not what they actually want. Which is probably meant for the element of surprise but keeps too much in the dark, made worse considering that The Rise of Skywalker answered no question at all.
Between the classics and the sequels thirty years have passed which remain largely unexplored. But that’s exactly the point: if the new movies were really well told, it would not matter.
When e.g. Vader kills Obi-Wan in A New Hope, the one who has a close connection with Obi-Wan is Luke, and it is he who is devastated when his mentor dies. Vader's personality is not explored in depth here because the story is about Luke, so whatever fall-out Vader and Obi-Wan must have had is not important narratively.
The sequels however are Ben's story; and since we do not know how Luke’s and Ben’s relationship was before the fatal night at the temple, we can only imagine that Ben must have loved his uncle a great deal, or at least trusted him implicitly. But without that knowledge, Luke’s moment of panic and why it pushed his nephew right to the Dark Side remains difficult to understand. Also, Ben’s redemption loses a lot of its narrative weight without knowledge of his grandfather’s past.
In the classic movies, we get some hints at things that happen or did happen behind stage, but they’re not what the story is about; we can watch them and thoroughly enjoy them without getting frustrated. The emphasis is always on the new storyline.
While ever since the prequels, the saga seems to have largely become a set-up for further stories, paving the future by neglecting the present; e.g. one of Attack of the Clones’ major problems is that it’s fraught with side plots and characters, since it’s also a set up for The Clone Wars and the return of Boba Fett.
In itself, I don’t think that’s bad. Fans ask for new Star Wars content and it’s a producer’s right to make as much of his stories as he can.
However, there is no way that the new stories are ever going to reach the vigor and freshness of the original story, going on like this.
The audience wants to know what’s going on and why. The audience is often new and doesn’t know what went on before. The audience wants to be entertained, in particular younger people.
I think the DLF studios are naïve if they automatically expect that the viewer will understand this and that, “knowing the saga”. But that exactly is often not the case. New fans or viewers who don’t like to delve into themes and connections between plotlines will often just get confused and simply feel stressed, or even bored. The classic movies never get old and you can show them to children, too; they will understand the storyline, if not the nuances.
A new or relatively young viewer
- will not know that Chancellor Palpatine is the future Emperor - will not realize why it is so important that Anakin can’t control his dark sides - will not understand why he and Padmé get married although they’re not supposed to - will not recognize Han, Luke and Leia in the sequels, or hardly be interested in them - will not know the legend of Luke Skywalker and consequently, why his falling out with his nephew was so fatal - will not know Anakin Skywalker’s backstory and thus not why his grandson’s redemption is so important - will chafe at the idea Luke takes Grogu away from Mando etc.
I realize that with a franchise like Star Wars, which is quite unique, it is difficult to tell new and original stories while connecting them to the old ones. The Rise of Skywalker is an awful example for this - it’s easily understandable because, apart from a few good scenes, it’s simply stupid where the classics were linear and clearly cut-out.
If the studios want to keep writing quality stories, with this franchise they ought to wonder: what will my eight-year-old-nephew say to this?
Clues: if he gets bored, you’re not there yet.
If he doesn’t but his teenage sister is pulling her hairs out at the roots: same.

my thoughts and opinions on "lovely writer": criticizing the critic
tw for discussions of age gaps, rape, and sex
before i turn into the mean and constantly dissatisfied archer that we all know and hate, i just want to say that i liked this show. i think it's great, actually! gene and sib are appropriately cute, the premise is nice, and the attempt at criticizing the industry is... well, an attempt, which is better than nothing. moreover, "lovely writer" came with gifts because it gave me my new favorite character, so you can't go telling me i'm trying to completely obliterate it or something.
besides, this specific post isn't going to get into analyzing the show as a whole anyway. i won't be talking about any irrelevant plot points, cinematography, sound design, or anything like that, though i could probably write a post just as long as this one about that side of things as well. however, i am here to specifically look at the problematic things that were both criticized by the show and included in the show without any criticism. i'm going to talk about the more serious side of things here, which means i'm going to get serious. and i'm going to be harsh. very harsh.
gene and nubsib: yes's and no's
overall, the relationship between gene and sib was a fair attempt at showing something complex, yet ultimately quite healthy, which i appreciate. there were some things i was especially glad about. the fact that sib dated other people before settling on getting together with gene, for example, makes the whole situation a little less codependent. however, as much as this show prides itself on not wanting to romanticize problematic relationships, there are at least two major problems with genesib.
the age gap (and why it was not needed)
i've tried my very best to give this entire concept the benefit of the doubt. at first, i was convincing myself that they were simply close childhood friends, then i was trying my best to believe that even though sib did have a sort of crush on gene (which sometimes happens to little children), gene only saw him as his younger brother, but eventually, the show gave me no choice, but to deem the entire storyline problematic, because they did their best to romanticize that relationship - from gene's dad seeing the "early signs" to the counting and kissing the cheek turning to counting and full-on lip-locking in the last episode.
i could go into how this could all easily be mended if little sib was shown as kind of obsessed with his older friend, but gene was shown as not being anywhere near interested in the kid. but the real question is - why was the age gap needed at all?
i've researched the age of the boys during the flashbacks to the best of my ability and it seems that gene is 11 and sib is 6 or 7. if sib was the same age as gene (or maybe just one year younger, but not any more than that), not only would none of it feel weird, it would also be quite appropriate to explore that first glimpse of romantic feelings some of us experience exactly around that age. i don't think it's necessary for sib to be much younger than gene (children can be just as impressionable at 11 as they are at 7, and as for gene being surprisingly nice and helpful and the other kids not wanting to play with sib, he could have easily been - for example - bullied by his peers instead, which would have the same effect).
moving forward to the present, i don't think the lack of an age gap would affect the storyline that much either. even if they desperately needed sib to be a university student, they could have that one-year difference i've talked about before, which is not as significant. sib could be in his last year of uni, while gene could have easily written his very first novel during his university years, which would actually make more sense (since that guaranteed him employment and freedom to write after he finished uni; and i would rather believe that he had time to write his first novel in-between classes than in-between shifts at work, which he would surely need to have if he started writing after finishing university).
so that brings me back to my initial question - why was it needed? and much like the show often does, i will leave this one up for your interpretation because i do not have any sensible answers myself.
the issue with sex and consent
"but archer!" - i hear you exclaim - "lovely writer is known for explicitly denouncing rape romanticization in bls, how could there possibly be any problems with consent here?" and i hear you, my dear reader. and you aren't incorrect, "lovely writer" is indeed very explicit at calling out bls for having rape scenes (and i do appreciate that). however, as i'm sure you know, there are different ways in which consent can be taken from a person, and there are different non-consensual acts that someone might perform. for example, there are many different forms of coercion, such as the person being persuaded until they feel like they have no other choice, but to say yes. touching someone or kissing someone without asking for permission are also non-consensual acts. i can go on and on, there are many examples outside of what so many people consider rape.
now, what if i tell you that though there (thank the gods) has been no rape present in "lovely writer", not all scenes with gene and sib are consensual? well, that's what i'm telling you because it's the truth. both the first kissing scene and the scene where gene and sib "try out different poses" have clear coercion in them. the entire "joke" of the scene before gene and sib's first time is literally built upon the concept of "a person is trying to run away from someone, who wants to have sex with them" and it is NOT funny. the later reveal of gene actually looking up how to have sex seems to be there on purpose, to show that everything that's happened is "ok" because gene was thinking about it. as a sensible person, i will only accept actual enthusiastic consent and not someone possibly maybe probably considering it. not to mention that right before having sex, sib asks gene one last time if he is sure, which is great, except it is immediately followed by "i'm not going to let you change your mind anymore", which - daily reminder - you are allowed to stop having sex at any point during the act if you start feeling uncomfortable with it. that's absolutely normal.
now the problem that we seem to run into here is that "lovely writer" appears to think that it's ok to push someone to the limit until they either finally agree or confidently and loudly disagree. the drama has repeatedly shown us that actually forcing someone to have sex is not ok; however, persuading and otherwise coercing someone, as well as taking an approximate guess of them wanting to have sex based on some marginally related factors, is ok. i would like to once again remind everyone that all of that is not ok.
one more issue i want to bring up in connection with sex is something i wish was common knowledge: it is NOT supposed to hurt during your first time. whether you are planning to have vaginal or anal sex for the first time, it should not hurt. and if it does, something has definitely gone wrong and you need to stop. you are not supposed to experience any pain or discomfort during sex, including your first time (outside of desired and therefore intentionally inflicted pain, but that's not what i'm talking about here). i have seen this misconception brought up many times in bls along with the other person "thanking the person who got hurt for bearing the pain to bring them pleasure" and absolutely none of that is normal. stop. please, just... stop.
criticism of the BL industry
there are certainly quite a few things i liked about the way "lovely writer" criticized the many problems that surround bls. i think they dealt especially well with the fan aspect. the breaches of privacy that are considered normal, the toxicity of social media that encourages people to comment on other people's personal life, harass and stalk them - all of that was shown in its full glory (or rather horror) and clearly condemned. it was also interesting to see how easily everyone around sib fell into the routine of having to hide genesib's relationship, just because "that's what's supposed to be done in these situations" - even tum did that without thinking twice.
however, i have not spent the past three years hating gmm for a show trying to criticize the industry not to focus on criticizing the production company and everyone professionally involved with the making of bls. don't get me wrong - they didn't completely overlook that side of things, but i found the way they approached it dissatisfying.
like yes, tum fights with his sister (aka sib's manager) and calls her out for her terrible actions, and the publisher (bua) eventually apologizes for what she did, but all of that feels a bit too... personal. i do not care about these individual stories. i care about you saying that the whole system is broken because it very much is. i wanted manner of death but with the bl industry, and instead, i got an "uwu the fans are demanding we do this, and our hands our tied" (which is a lie) and "uwu i'm just trying to make money" (which i mean... if you feel ok milking even more money than you already have by doing something unethical and immoral, then be my guest, but also go fuck yourself). besides that, i didn't see any criticism of tabloids or exploitative celebrities either (both of which we had examples of in the show), and that was kind of disappointing.
coming back to the fans for a moment, i also think that the criticism of real people shipping was entirely unsuccessful. we basically mostly got an "oh, what if this person's partner thinks they are actually dating", which... if a bunch of people on the internet who do not know your boyfriend personally and make all their judgments from screenshots and their imagination can convince you that your boyfriend is cheating, i've got some bad news for you and also a number for a therapist. partly i know why it was so complicated for them to get into it properly - the issue with real people shipping is an issue of privacy, boundaries, the perception of celebrities, acceptable interests, and many other complex topics. however, it's better to not criticize something than to criticize it badly and inaccurately (because the latter usually leads to even more encouragement of whatever you were attempting to criticize).
aey: the flamboyant villain
aey certainly starts as a promisingly complex character, but the farther we go from his backstory and his family, the less complex and the more evil he gets. eventually, the trauma he goes through is no longer enough to give him a get-out-of-jail-free card, and he loses all remaining sympathy after sexually harassing gene and pretending to drug sib. and i did start this post by saying that i am not to analyze any plot points or characters from the show here; however, i'm saying all this to prove a point that aey is a clear villain in the show. this is further cemented by the fact that by the end of the show he loses the only two people who cared about him, and the very last moment with him in the show is literally just him crying for about 3 minutes. there was no redemption arc, no pity, no revenge - he was left alone and broken, clearly punished by the narrative. and i've got a bone to pick here as well.
one of the first things that we find out about aey is that he is gay, and quite openly so. he is repeatedly described as very feminine by many characters, he flirts with men, he talks about being good in bed, and his entire character is built upon being gay (half of it directly, and the other half due to the fact that his entire backstory and therefore personality is also built upon the fact that he is gay). he is - for the lack of a better term - the gayest character in the show and the only one who is loud about being gay not because he is in love but simply because it is a part of him and he doesn't want to hide it. and he is the villain. not the disgusting publisher or the terrible manager - no, this guy was specifically chosen to ruin everyone's lives. and i can't say i'm particularly happy about that. *british voice* seems a bit homophobic love
not quite queer enough
as i said, aey is openly gay. gene and sib also eventually say that they are gay, gene's father teep is queer, so are tiffy and mhok. but it just doesn't seem to come up as much as it would in real life. the only time anyone has a problem with any of the characters being queer is when we deal with the parents. but knowing actual queer thai actors in real life, we are all aware how hard it can be for them, but it has not come up even once for aey, gene or sib (with genesib only being a problem because they are a "non-shippable couple"). being queer is far from being a non-issue in the industry, and i found it incredibly weird that it was never brought up (and i would also prefer if they brought that up instead of showing the unaccepting parents plot for the millionth time).
same goes for the lack of conversation around queer people on set. i think we all have a wonderful example of how much better a bl can get simply when it involves a queer director and/or screenwriter (gods bless p'aof), gay actors, etc. i also thought it was a missed opportunity that gene being a gay man writing a bl novel was never highlighted. if anything, everyone made a big deal out of him being a man writing a bl - never mind that he is a gay man that is far more qualified to write bls than a straight woman.
in conclusion, there are simply not enough queer issues talked about here for a show that is about queer people facing difficulties while making a queer drama.
tiffy and tum: the good, the bad, and the ugly
overall, tiffy and tum are quite cool. outside of my own personal feelings, i really liked the clear reversal of gender roles they have going on: he knows lots about make-up, she knows nothing about it, he knows how to sew, she knows how to repair a car, etc.
tiffy is also a nice addition to the precious few queer girls we have in bls. however, the way her being bi is executed... it isn't great. when she first talks about dating girls to tum, she says things like "even though i look like this" (implying queer girls have a certain look?) and "maybe it seemed normal because i was at an all-girls school" (which wtf does that even mean?). i think the worst thing, though, was when she assumed tum was gay. my best guess is she thought so because she initially thought that tum and gene were a couple; however, she should be the first person to know that just because he likes men, it doesn't mean that he doesn't like women or any other gender. even though there was nothing explicitly leading me to make this conclusion, this whole thing did kind of feel like the old "flipping the switch" stereotype (meaning, she used to like women, but now she likes men, and both of them can't happen simultaneously).
make it make sense
i think i've never been more confused in my entire life than when i found out that the director of "lovely writer" also happens to be the director of "th*arnt*pe". and if at first, i was asking a lot of questions about this peculiar individual, who went from working on the worst rape-romanticizing show we have ever had to a show that explicitly states that rape is not normal. but the more i thought about it, the less i was interested in him, and the more i was interested in whoever made the decision to hire him. there are dozens of different directors that have worked specifically on bls, and even more that haven't. yet out of all those, you decided to choose this one. the dude, who before your show has only directed the show with the biggest rape-y vibes. that casts a particular kind of shade on the entire show that i simply do not like.
conclusion
at the end of the day, i think what "lovely writer" tried to do was very interesting. it succeeded in some ways and failed in others. frankly, i think this show could have easily been made better if someone queer was involved in making it. that's always true, but especially so, when we try to talk about the issues of making a queer drama. either way, it's certainly a good start to this conversation; however - as i said - i'm still waiting for my manner of death but with the bl industry. this was unfortunately not it.
