DAY ONE
Youâre a goner as soon as you lay eyes on him. You know it before Jeonghan properly introduces you, shouting over the rock music that is blaring in the dive bar you like to hang out at on Friday nights. The neon from the sign creates a blue silhouette around Seungcheol as he smiles and holds a hand out to you. You can barely pull yourself together to shake his hand - warm, firm - too busy staring at his face.Â
Choi Seungcheol is what your best friend Vin likes to call pretty motherfuckin handsome. Heâs got dark, warm eyes that light up playfully when they meet yours, full lips the color of crushed rose petals, a square, firm jawline and silky dark hair that falls in his eyes when he tilts his face down to hide a smile at something Jeonghan says.Â
Crushed against the wall of the booth, you feel the cold glass of your beer warm against your palms as you steal glances at Seungcheol. Heâs directly across from you, angling his broad shoulders to fit snug into the corner of the booth, lounging backward as he observes the argument brewing between Joshua and Jeonghan.Â
He even dresses well. Fitted t-shirt paired with light wash jeans and boots, a fancy watch reflecting the burning neon on the wall next to him, delicate chain necklaces tucked into the collar of his shirt.Â
Itâs the way he wears them that speaks to you, though.Â
âDo they do this often?â his deep voice drags you from your reverie. You blink, gathering yourself when you realize heâs leaning forward a little, addressing you. He sips his beer before tilting the tip of the bottle toward Jeonghan and Joshua. âItâs like they're married.â
âYou have no idea. Wait until game night.âÂ
âOh yeah. Jeonghan told me about game night.â Seungcheolâs mouth twitches in a smile. âYouâll be there?âÂ
âEvery Sunday. Do you like games?âÂ
Something about the glint in his eye makes your stomach flip. You sip your beer just to give you something to do, feeling more drunk off the easy confidence he exudes as he shrugs. âDepends on the game. Iâm competitive.âÂ
âSo am I.â
He grins. âI look forward to it, then.âÂ
Warming up to Seungcheol is easy. Heâs the new hire at Jeonghan and Wonwooâs office, and they both felt confident enough to bring him into the fold. You can see why - heâs kind and funny, and thereâs a charm to him that draws the people around him like moths to a flame. Even with just the four of you sitting in the booth, you feel the magnetism.Â
Friday nights at Rustyâs has been a tradition with Jeonghan and Joshua since you had been in college, filling yourself on five dollar wings, three dollar beers and occasionally lukewarm mozzarella sticks. Normally Vin, Wonwoo and Mingyu would be around, but tonight itâs just the smaller group.Â
Jeonghan and Joshua slide out of the booth to play darts, shoving one another back and forth, the drink in their step making them a little off balance. You smile fondly as you pluck another beer out of the bucket of ice, struggling to pop the top, your wet hands sliding against the metal cap.Â
Wordlessly, Seungcheol holds his hand out. Flushing from the neck down, you hand it over to him with a silent thank you. He pops the top easily, bicep flexing for a moment before he passes it back over, shooting you an award winning grin.Â
âWow, so strong.â
He pouts and you swear you see stars. âHey, I am strong.âÂ
âNo, no, you are. Thank you.âÂ
âYou shouldnât tease me. Iâm new.âÂ
âHuh.â You sip your beer, letting the cool liquid slide down your throat. It does nothing to soothe the heat spreading over your skin under the sole attention of Seungcheol. âI donât remember that being a rule.âÂ
âI never was one to play by the rules anyway.âÂ
âOh, so youâre saying you cheat at games like Jeonghan does.âÂ
âI like winning.â
You roll your eyes. From the edge of your vision, you see people leave the pool table. Eager to stand up and stretch your legs, you start to slide out of the booth, the wood grain scratching against your jeans as you do.Â
âCome on then, cheater. Letâs play pool.âÂ
âIâm down.âÂ
Seungcheol follows you. Your fingers grip the glass of your drink tight, knuckles straining. You move around tables and duck around other patrons, hyper aware of the way Seungcheol keeps close to you, the heat of him against your back.Â
Next to the rows of dart boards are two pool tables, the felt a faded green with beer stains and other mysterious smudges on the surface. You grab a cue from the rack on the wall, spin it in your hands, and hand it over to Seungcheol. He eyes it, running his fingers along the splintered and dented wood.
Grabbing your cue in one hand and the triangle rack and set it on the table while he collects the balls from the table and the pockets, rolling them over to you. A few feet away, Joshua is already accusing Jeonghan of cheating. You donât know how you cheat in darts, but you do know if there is a will, Jeonghan will find a way.
âDangerous to let them have sharp objects,â Seungcheol notes, sliding the last ball over to you. You huff out a laugh, rolling the rack of billiard balls back and forth to set them. âYouâre not going to get violent with me, right?â
âI donât know, are you going to cheat?â
His smile is wicked. âMe? Definitely not.âÂ
âHmm. Not convincing.â
Seungcheol presses the flat of his palm over his chest, drawing your eyes to how thick he is in the chest area. You swallow thickly as he says, âCross my heart.âÂ
âWhatever you say. What are we playing for?âÂ
âWhat will you give me?âÂ
You look up at the shift in his tone. Dark. Flirty. He leans against the pool table, resting his hip casually as he crosses his arms over his chest. You ignore the way his arms flex, totally focused on the way his eyes are only for you. Intent. Meaningful.Â
A warning goes off in your head. You already feel the pull to him, the innate attraction that has your heart hammering. You should brush off the flirtation, move on to other things. Relationships arenât really your thing, but thereâs something about him that makes you know youâll want more.Â
You already do want more.Â
âWhat do you want?â you ask softly, ignoring your better judgment.Â
When Seungcheol smiles, you know youâd give him anything. Everything.
âI can think of something, I think.â

DAY SEVEN
âI like this,â Seungcheol says, voice rough from use. He buttons his jeans, looking over at you. Youâre still half-alive on your bed, a sheen of sweat covering your body. The sheets stick to you when you roll to look at him. âAre you good with casual?â
Youâre only half listening, too distracted by his flexing abs. âHmm?â
Seungcheol looks good tonight. He looks good every night, but tonight heâs in dark jeans and a white sweater. The sweater looks soft like his hair, which has grown longer and hangs in his eyes as he looks down to slip on his shoes.Â
âIâm not really looking for a relationship at the moment but this,â he answers, flicking his fingers between the two of you. âItâs good.âÂ
âAgreed. Iâm good with casual. Iâm a little too busy for anything more.âÂ
Itâs not a lie. You are too busy to really commit to someone. Again, a warning goes off in your mind like that first night you met him, screaming danger. You ignore it, not ready to give up Seungcheol just yet.Â
He grins, pulling his short back over his head. âCool. If you ever donât want to or whatever though, let me know, yeah?â
âYou too.âÂ

DAY THIRTY
You slide your finger across the phone, curious as you pick up Seungcheolâs phone call. âHello?â
âAre you hungry?âÂ
You look at your watch. Itâs almost one in the afternoon, your stomach growling as it realizes that yeah you are kind of hungry. âActually yeah. Why?âÂ
âI had to run errands and Iâm by your place and starving. Wanna get lunch?âÂ
Your lips twitch in a smile. Leaning against the counter, you press the phone against you a little closer. âSure, what did you have in mind?âÂ
âDo you like Greek?â You hum in assent, chewing on your fingernail nervously. You can hear him get into his car, pausing momentarily as he starts it and curses at how hot it is. You canât help but laugh. âAlright, pick you up in ten?â
âAlright.âÂ

DAY FORTY THREE
Heâs not yours. You tell yourself that over and over again as you try not to look across the bar where Seungcheol is sitting for the nth time. Youâd noticed him immediately when you and Vin walked in, clocking his wide frame and familiar laugh with a precision that makes you curse yourself.
Now, Seungcheol is leaning against a high top, talking to a pretty girl sitting on a stool next to him. Heâd waved at you earlier and shot you a smile and a wink, but heâs with friends youâre unfamiliar with tonight, and hasnât come over.
Not that you expect him to. He isnât yours and the casual thing youâve got going means he can do whatever he wants, no strings attached.
So why is your heart in your throat as you glance over to see the girl laughing at something heâs said? Theyâre not alone but somehow that isnât comforting at all. You pick at the varnish on the table to distract yourself, suddenly interested in the splinters and not the man across the bar from you.
Finishing the rest of your beer, you pull out another, hoping that the hoppy taste erases the icky feeling that settles on your skin. Youâre not participating in conversation much, but if your friends notice, they have the decency not to call you out.Â
At least Vin knows whatâs up, checking on you every once in a while. Thankfully she doesnât say anything, occasionally giving you a squeeze instead. She knows the deal, understanding the irrationality between wanting to control something that isnât yours to control.Â
Halfway through your beer, your phone vibrates. You flip it over and your heart starts pounding when you see Seungcheolâs name come across the screen, a message waiting to be read. With a shaky hand, you slide your thumb across the screen to unlock it, the message popping up.
Seungcheol [12:13 AM]: Wanna come back to mine?Â
Surprised, you look up from your phone to where heâs still at the high top. His phone is in his hands and heâs looking right at you, flashing a grin when you meet his eyes. The girl is still sitting next to him, but his attention is entirely on you now, pinning you to the spot.Â
Your phone vibrates again and you glance down, your phoneâs brightness stark in the gloom of the bar.Â
Seungcheol [12:13 AM]: Youâre cute when youâre surprised You [12:14 AM]: What, the girl you were talking to said no? Seungcheol [12:14 AM]: I didnât ask her. I asked you Seungcheol [12:14 AM]: Omg wait are you jealous?? You [12:14 AM]: No You [12:14 AM]: Definitely not Seungcheol [12:17 AM]: Hateful to me is Hades for a liar or whatever You [12:17 AM]: Hateful to me as the gates of Hades is that man who hides one thing in his heart and speaks another, loser Seungcheol [12:18 AM]: Same thing Seungcheol [12:18 AM]: But seriously, I have no interest in her. Iâm asking YOU Seungcheol [12:18 AM]: Will beg from my knees in this bar Seungcheol [12:19 AM]: Even tho the floor is kind of gross You [12:20 AM]: I mean, if youâre offering to get on your kneesâŠ
Youâre not sure if you trust his answer about not being interested in the other girl, but it doesnât matter. You still end up leaning against him in an Uber, his hand squeezing your thigh playfully as he leans his forehead on the window, eyes closed to enjoy the cool glass.Â
He is so handsome, face glowing red as the car stops at a stoplight. You examine him closely, eyes dragging from the soft curve of his mouth to his impossibly silk lashes. Youâd told him once that most girls would kill for those lashes, and now he likes to bat them at you every time he wants something.Â
The car starts moving and you look away from him, taking in a deep breath. Seungcheol isnât yours, but youâre starting to think you want him to be.Â
DAY FIFTY TWO
âIs it weird if I bring a bag of shit to stay?â Seungcheolâs voice is shy over the receiver. You grip your phone tighter, biting your bottom lip to hide your smile as you roll onto your side in bed, snuggling into the pillow more. It smells like him, bergamot and cedarwood. âYou can tell me if thatâs weird.â
âNot weird at all,â you say carefully, too nervous to scare him off. âYou usually end up sleeping here anyway.âÂ
Usually really means always. Heâs been doing that more recently, crashing at your apartment after coming over and vice versa. Youâve gone from Uber rides home at dawn to waking up curled into his back. Heâs the first person youâve ever let loiter in your space as much as he has, but you try not to think about it too much, as though just the acknowledgement might spook him.
Whatever thing between you feels fragile, a rare, glass menagerie set that can shatter if handled wrong. Friends with benefits is what you call it, but youâre not quite sure if thatâs what it is.
âOkay cool. Waking up at the ass crack of dawn to go back to my place and shower sucks.âÂ
âI do have a shower.â
âOh Iâm aware. Itâs one of my favorite places in your apartment.âÂ
Your stomach flutters and you clench your thighs together. Looking at the clock on your nightstand, you realize itâs getting late. âBetter hurry,â you murmur. âI might be too tired for a shower when you get here.âÂ
His chuckle is deep. Throaty. âIâll speed, then.âÂ
After hanging up, you toss your phone to the end of your bed and stare at the ceiling. Outside, the city hums beyond the window of your apartment. The lights in your home are mostly turned off, a single lamp providing low light in the living room so Seungcheol can see when he comes in, and a flickering candle on your nightstand and in the bathroom.Â
Your bed is warm and you do feel sleepy, but the excitement of seeing Seungcheol keeps you awake well enough. You try not to think of that too much, either. He was just there a few nights prior, and already heâs on his way back. Like itâs common. Routine.Â
And it sort of is, you guess. You hangout with Seungcheol almost more than you see Vin and Jeonghan these days, and youâre almost always spending the night together. You know his favorite late night snacks, you know the type of coffee he likes to make in the morning before work, and you know about his family, his stresses at work. What makes him tick.Â
Itâs more than you ever thought youâd know about him when you agreed to keep your sex life with him casual and at a distance. He is anything but at a distance.Â
Seungcheol must speed, because it feels like hardly any time has passed when you hear your apartment door open and shut, the sound of the deadbolt clicking. You lift yourself up to lean on your elbows, watching from your bed as he enters your line of vision, a backpack over one shoulder.Â
Heâs dressed in a long t-shirt and sweats, cozy and warm and still unbelievably good looking. He grins when he sees you, eyes creasing at the corners as he enters your room and drops his bag by your door.Â
Without saying anything, Seungcheol crawls onto your bed, the mattress sinking under his weight as he inches up over you. Falling backward onto the mattress, you let him loom over you. Heat radiates from his body, warming you up. Your heart thuds as he ducks down, his hands bracketing your head as he cages you in. He brushes his nose against yours and you feel sparks, trying to regulate your breathing.Â
âHi,â he whispers.Â
âHi,â you whisper back, reaching your hands up to rest on his hips. He reacts, pressing his waist into yours a little, making you bear his weight. âUgh, heavy.âÂ
âToo bad.âÂ
Seungcheolâs teeth nip your jaw, making your hips twitch upward. You can feel the smirk against your skin as he presses a wet kiss under your ear, moving his way to your neck.Â
âI was promised a shower.â
âMaybe Iâm too tired,â You murmur.
He hums, leaning more of his weight into you. Itâs comforting, not crushing, and you can feel the way his heart is beating wildly in his chest, in tune with yours. You smell bergamot and cedarwood, making your thoughts dizzy and scattered while he whispers, âIâll wash your hair.âÂ
âHmmm. Iâm listening.âÂ
He presses a wet kiss to your pulse point, tongue laving against your skin. Your fingers twist in his shirt, your muscles tensing as you fight off a shiver. You can hear his soft breath, the way the sheets shift under the two of you, the way your heart hammers. Â
âIâll massage your shouldersâŠâÂ
âHmm.âÂ
His teeth scrape against your throat and you sigh, arching up into him, eyes closed. âIâll eat you out.âÂ
Fuck. Youâre putty in his hands. Seungcheol could get you to do anything he asked. You donât know if he knows - youâre too afraid to show him, to let him in on the secret out of fear of what it would mean to him. If it was too much, too deep.
But like this, itâs hard not to hide it. Especially when his filthy mouth hits a weak point in you, turning you thoughtless as you nod your head in response, nails digging into his hip bones through the fabric of his shirt. He makes a noise in response, leaning up off of you reluctantly but pulling you with him.Â
Dropping his hands, you head to the bathroom, feeling uneven. Seungcheol whines and grabs you to pull you back toward him. He wraps his arms around you, squeezing tightly.Â
âYou havenât even given me a kiss,â he pouts, looking down at you through long, dark lashes. âI want a kiss.âÂ
This is the problem with Seungcheol. He says things like this when youâre supposed to be casual, something easy and without feelings and without strings. But this feels like something, it feels like there's a thread connecting you, tugging your mouth to his because of course you indulge him.
You always do.Â
Seungcheolâs lips are soft and taste faintly of his cherry chapstick. You smile into the kiss, standing on your tiptoes to press closer to him. He kisses you back eagerly, slotting his lips against yours and humming with delight. When you pull away, heâs smug, grinning happily.Â
âCome on,â he urges, now leading the charge as he pulls you by the hand toward your bathroom.Â
Instead of turning on the light, Seungcheol uses the glow of the burning candle on the counter to navigate. He drops your hand to open up the cabinets and pulls out two towels as you trail to the shower, opening the glass door to lean in and turn it on.Â
Steam starts to fill the room as you close the shower door and turn to him. He sets the towels on the counter, not bothering to shut the door to the bedroom. Instead, he grips the bottom of his shirt and peels it upward and over his head, revealing all toned muscle and tan skin.Â
He momentarily distracts you. Seungcheol is a work of art, equal parts rippling muscle and soft skin. You slide your shorts down, distracted by the way he looks in the golden shroud of the candle light, sliding his sweatpants down his legs.Â
Sensing your eyes, he lifts his head as he kicks off his sweats, briefs slung low on his hips. âAdmiring me?âÂ
âShut up.âÂ
Looking away, you take off your shirt, feeling the heat flush from your cheeks down to your neck. He chuckles, peeling off his briefs before kicking them toward the sink and striding toward the shower. He stops to kiss you on the cheek as he pulls open the door.Â
âI donât mind,â he teases. âI like it.âÂ
Itâs true. Seungcheol has always had the easy confidence of someone who is comfortable in their skin. You admire that about him - and envy him a little. Seungcheol never seems to worry what others think of him, nor does he seem embarrassed or concerned about making the wrong move. Saying the wrong thing.Â
Steam hits you full on as you step into the shower. Seungcheol is already standing under the spray of water, his back turned toward you. For a moment you admire him again, watching the way the water sluices down his broad back and narrow waist.Â
Your eyes drift to the tattoo at his neck, the branches of the tree stretching toward his shoulders. Youâve traced that tree with the tips of your fingers and tongue over and over again, fascinated about the way the ink flexes when he moves.Â
A chill catches you, making you shiver and step toward the heat of the water. He senses your approach, turning his head to the side to look at you over his shoulder. He grins, reaching a hand back toward you to pull you close. You lace your fingers, letting him pull you into him as he turns.Â
Hot water hits your skin, immediately soothing. You sigh, leaning into the firmness of him, Seungcheolâs arms wrapping around you. He catches your mouth again, your eyes fluttering shut as he kisses you slowly, tongue lazy as he licks into your mouth.Â
Seungcheolâs hands spread across your back, fingers digging in a little as he starts to explore, one hand surging up and the other down. You moan into his mouth as the hand that drifts down grabs a handful of your ass, squeezing a little. His mouth curves into the kiss and you feel his teeth pull at your bottom lip, something he knows you love.
As always, youâre a goner. You donât stand a chance with him. Not that first night and not now when he kisses you like something more. Not when he slides his hand around to your front, pressed between your bodies to run his fingers up the wet folds of your pussy.Â
He groans into the kiss that has turned sloppy, hungry. âFucking wet.â
âWeâre in the shower.âÂ
He growls and pulls his mouth from you to attach to your neck, biting and sucking harshly. You let out a breathy sound, head tilting back heavily as you feel his tongue lick the water from your skin. âDonât take away my credit.âÂ
âThe only crime is pride.â
The pads of his fingers press into your clit, making your knees knock together and the breath leave your lungs. He smiles against your neck, humming. âWhich classic are you quoting at me today?âÂ
âAntigone by Sophocles.âÂ
âWhatâs that one about?âÂ
Finding words is nearly impossible. The heat of the shower has you flushed and distracted, the steam making it harder to breathe, thoughts sticky as Seungcheol continues to tease you, fingers dragging down to your clenching entrance to press his fingers in slightly before dragging them back up.
Your nails bite into the back of his neck, clinging to him for life as he holds you up, one arm looped around your back to press you to him while the other makes all your thoughts scattered.Â
âCome on,â he urges gently, bringing his face to yours. He brushes his nose against yours, nudging. âTell me.âÂ
âShe was a tragic character in a play written by Sophocles,â you sigh. âShe was the daughter of Oedipus.âÂ
âThe guy who fucked his mom?â
Your laughter bubbles out of you. He laughs too, his hold tightening. âYeah, Cheol. The guy who fucked his mom.â
âCraaazy family.âÂ
âDo you really want to talk about Greek tragedy incest right now?â
âNope,â he says happily. âI do want to eat this pussy though.âÂ
Seungcheol flips gears so quickly that itâs hard to keep up. He swings you toward the glass wall of the shower, pressing your chest against it. You moan loudly, startled by the cool glass against your hard nipples. The contrast of hot water and the cool glass feels good, your eyes fluttering shut as Seungcheol drops to his knees behind you. He gently presses the inside of your knees, urging you to spread your legs.Â
âJust like that,â he encourages, hands ghosting upward to squeeze your ass. He pulls your hips away from the glass and toward him, groaning as he comes face level to your cunt. âFuck.â
Your breath fogs the glass. Itâs cold when you press your palms against it, holding yourself up as Seungcheol dips forward, running the flat of his tongue down your slit. You let out a pathetic sound and he laughs, fingers squeezing your flesh.Â
Everything feels like an exposed nerve. You melt, knees shaking and unsteady as Seungcheols tongue leisurely explores your folds, dipping into your entrance before dragging up to circle your clit.Â
One of your hands leaves the glass to reach back, sinking into the wet strands of his hair and holding him to you. He grunts in pleasure, the buzz of his mouth adding to the simulation as he fastens his lips to you, sucking gently.Â
Seungcheolâs mouth is a weapon. You fall apart under the warmth of his lips, the softness of his tongue. He sucks at your core, greedy and pleased, fingers digging into you as he presses in further. He can never get enough, the wet sounds of his hunger making your toes curl.
âFeels so good,â you pant against the glass. Your nails scrape against his scalp and he moans loudly, muffled by your cunt. âYour fucking mouth.âÂ
âMmm. Love you like this.â His tongue flicks expertly across your clit and you feel your thighs clench, legs shaking as your orgasm spools inside of you. âGod this shower hurts my fucking knees though.â
âYou wanted to eat me out in the shower.â
A hand cracks across your ass cheek, making you arch against the glass. He chuckles, tongue diving back, words slurred as he mutters, âAnd Iâd do it again.â
Seungcheolâs mouth feels divine. You go quiet as he sucks at you, focused on the warmth spreading through you and the way your breath starts to stutter, limbs locking up.Â
When you come, you go boneless. Seungcheol holds you up, pressing you against the glass as he licks you through your orgasm. You twitch against him, nails dragging in his hair, your other hand sliding against the glass as you fight to grip anything to ground you.
Breathing raggedly, you sag when he pulls his face from you and stands. He groans and you grin, knowing his knees hurt from the tile of the shower. He doesnât care, though. He crowds you in, cock pressed against your backside as his arms loop around you.Â
âKiss me.â His voice is soft, needy.Â
Turning your face over your shoulder, you let him catch his mouth with yours, all tongue and cum and spit. You donât care, pushing into him. One of his hands slides down between your legs, making you whimper into his mouth as he slides his fingers through your sticky folds to press two of them into your entrance.Â
Seungcheol is a giver. It doesnât matter how many times youâve slept together or had brief, fast encounters, he always makes it a point to please you. To go out of his way to make you shake against him, like he needs it.Â
He keeps your mouth melded to his as his fingers fuck you slowly. You clench around his fingers, moaning his name as he presses them against the soft spot inside of you. You see stars, panting into his mouth as he strings you along, dragging you toward another orgasm.Â
Itâs slow. Intimate. His mouth is hot and wet, sucking at biting at your bottom lip. His other hand snakes up to your throat, not applying pressure but gripping you, holding you to him. If he didnât have you so tightly pressed to the glass, you think youâd collapse.
âYou wonât fall,â he breathes into your mouth, reading your mind. âIâve got you.â
âMy knees are fucking useless right now.â
âYouâre tough. Come on, I know you can give me more.âÂ
Youâll give him anything he asks. You feel your heart slamming in your chest as he works you up again, feel the ragged breathing until you momentarily stop, everything tense and suspended as you clench around his fingers, shuddering violently as you come.Â
âKnew it,â he murmurs. âGood girl.â
A whine leaves you at the praise, head shaking back and forth a little as the oversensitivity makes you squirm. He works you through it, mouth pressed to your ear, whispering to breathe, baby as he strokes you gently until youâre leaning against him heavily.Â
Seungcheol removes his hand but keeps holding you up, letting you catch your breath. He peppers innocent kisses along your shoulder, lips brushing your skin tenderly. When you stand up with more strength, he pats you on the hip, gentle.
âGood?â
âMhmm.â Craning over your shoulder, you catch his chin with your mouth, kissing softly. You press your ass into him, feeling his straining cock. âCome on.âÂ
âYeah?â
âAll good.â
âThank fuck. Thought I lost you.â
âIâve had worse,â you grin, a little tired.
He kisses you, patting you approvingly before he grinds the tip of his cock between your legs. He groans deep in his chest, grip on you tightening for a moment. You reach behind you, gripping the base of his cock firmly, stroking gently before lining him up with your entrance.Â
Seungcheol pushes in, both of you whining in harmony at the feeling. It feels good, your pussy throbbing around him as he presses in slowly, letting you feel the stretch. He clings to you, trying to keep it together as you flutter around him.Â
âYeah,â he whispers, more to himself than you. âShit.âÂ
Gently, Seungcheol starts to fuck you against the glass, strokes deep and slow. Itâs mind-numbingly good, your cheek cool and pressed against the shower wall, Seungcheolâs face buried in your neck, breath puffing against your skin.Â
He holds you reverently, both hands on your hips to keep you where he wants you. You reach one hand behind your head, holding the back of his neck, nails digging into his skin. He hums happily, always pleased when you bite and scratch him.
That had been a surprise. You always thought he wouldnât want you to mark him, that he wouldnât want evidence of your time spent together. Seungcheol is the opposite though, urging you to rake your nails across soft skin, to bite at him and bruise him.Â
Your feet slide apart a little as he strengthens his thrusts. You squeal, hand smacking the glass to hold yourself up. He lets out a loud laugh, pausing to let you fix your stance. He taps your thigh in question and you nod, lifting your leg a little to let him slide a hand under your thigh to press it against the shower wall for better grip.
When he rolls his hips into you this time, itâs deeper, making you tremble against the glass. A groan drips from Seungcheolâs mouth as he sets his pace, pinning you between him and the glass with nothing to do but to take what he gives you.Â
âCan you do another?â he asks, breath shaky. His fingers squeeze your thigh for emphasis, the snap of his hips getting stronger. You nod, unable to answer verbally. He huffs, half laughter, half something else. âYeah you can.âÂ
And you can. Seungcheol can pull pleasure out of you like thread from a loom, his skilled hands guiding you where he wants you to go. Itâs easy for him, the way he knows your body so acute and familiar that the thought alone makes you unravel a little, your whines muted by the glass.Â
He makes you come like that, stuck between his warmth and the cold, the two contrasts keeping you suspended as you seize up around him. He grunts at the feeling, hips sloppy, losing their rhythm until he clenches up, growling your name into your neck as he tips over the edge after you.Â
For a few moments, you remain melded together, panting in time. Seungcheol makes no rush of peeling himself away from you. Instead, heâs content to mouth at your shoulder and neck, running his nose along your throat. You squirm and laugh, ticklish.Â
Grinning, he does it again, nuzzling into you and making you laugh, sound echoing in the shower. âSeungcheol!â
âItâs cute.âÂ
âCome on,â you urge. âYou said youâd wash my hair.âÂ
He steals a kiss. âAlright, alright. Pass me the shampoo.âÂ

DAY FIFTY SEVEN
âWho is that?â Seungcheol asks, jerking his head toward the bar. You turn and follow his gaze to see Seokmin standing at the bar, ordering drinks. âNever seen him before.â
âJealous?â You tease, leaning forward and batting your eyelashes at him. Seokmin is just a coworker, but it doesnât mean you canât poke Seungcheol a little. Except Seungcheol doesnât laugh, leveling you with a stare, lips turning downward. âWait, you actually are.â
âDonât push it. It was just a question.â
âWe work together,â you clarify, immediately turning off the charm when you recognize heâs not amused. âActually I think he sort of has a thing for Vin, which is why heâs here.âÂ
Seungcheol hums, sipping his beer and looking away from you. Licking your lips, you reach out a hand and touch his gently, bringing his dark eyes back to you. He looks serious - more serious than youâve ever seen him, face blank, eyes unreadable.Â
âI mean it.â You squeeze his hand, trying to comfort him. âWeâre just friends.âÂ
âAlright.âÂ
âI feel like youâre mad at me.â
âWhy would I be mad?âÂ
You shrug, struggling to articulate. He still has that expression you canât read, something stark and closed off. âJust seems like it.âÂ
He shakes his head again, but you donât think heâs telling the truth, watching the way his eyes shift to watch Seokmin approach. âJust tired, I think I might head out.âÂ
Panic grips you and you say the first thing you can think of, throwing caution to the wind. âWant to come over?âÂ
That gives him pause. He studies you. You feel a tightness in your throat under his scrutiny. His mouth twitches and he nods. âAlright,â he says softly. âIf you want me to.â
âI do.â You squeeze his hand again. âReally.â
-
DAY SEVENTY EIGHT
âWant to do me a huge favor?âÂ
You look up from your spot on your couch. Seungcheol is in your kitchen, using his hip to close the door to the fridge. He lifts the lid on the package of grapes, plastic cracking loudly as he does. Leaning against the counter, he pops one into his mouth, crunching happily.Â
âBesides giving you my grapes?â you ask, deadpan. He grins around them shrugging happily as he eats another. You roll your eyes, turning back to the laptop carefully balanced on your knee. âWhatâs the favor?âÂ
âWe have this giant New Years Eve party at work in two weeks and I need a date.â
That gives you pause. You stare at the computer screen but you canât make out anything on the screen. You donât dare to turn and look at Seungcheol, fearful that the feelings his question brings out will be right on the surface of your expression.
Date. Itâs a scary word. You and Seungcheol sort of go on dates all the time, but theyâre not really dates. At least, not from your perspective. If you were to ask Jeonghan, he would launch into another lecture that you should just put a goddamn title on this thing. Vin happily agrees, both of them hammering you on calling the thing between you and Seuncheol what it is.
But itâs friends with benefits. Friends go out to eat meals together and go shopping together - they hangout. The benefits are the sex. Itâs the pressing you against your mattress as he maps your body with his mouth, itâs the way you sink to your knees for him after heâs had a bad day at work, taking him into the heat of your mouth to make him forget.Â
So yes, youâve gone places together alone and as a friend date. But somehow this feels different, and you donât think itâs supposed to.Â
Carefully, you ask, âYour date, huh?â
âMhmm. Free drinks and apps, and itâs at the top of that fancy new hotel. We can stay the night so we donât have to pay for an expensive as fuck UberâÂ
Not for the first time, you find yourself unsure where the line is with Seungcheol. Youâve agreed multiple times that this is just casual, a shared benefit between friends. And yet every time you feel confident in what you are, the line blurs.Â
Youâre as guilty as he is, you know. On more than one occasion youâre the one who has crossed the line, messing up the clear boundary the two of you have had in place for weeks. Somehow, you both manage to be utterly terrible at casual, but youâre too afraid to say something about it. Too afraid to ruin it.Â
âI suppose I can be convinced.âÂ
âOh? What can I do to convince you?âÂ
You look up as his tone turns to velvet, that voice he uses when heâs coaxing you into his lap, or when heâs-Â
âItâs really hard to be sexy when thereâs grape juice running down your chin, Cheol.âÂ
He pouts, grabbing a paper towel to wipe the lower half of his face as you laugh. Heâs cute, pink lips downturned and eyes round as he sulks. âDonât make fun of me. Just say yes to being my date.âÂ
âYeah, yeah. Iâll go.âÂ
His grin is burnished gold, the sun breaking for first light over the horizon. âThank you.âÂ
âMhmm.â He crunches into another grape and you scowl. âStop eating all my fucking grapes!âÂ
-
DAY NINETY TWO
âHoly shit,â Seungcheol mutters when you step out of the hotel bedroom. He feels his heart start to pound in his chest from where he stands in the kitchenette, fingers squeezing the glass of whiskey he poured himself earlier. âYou look unreal.â
And you do. You always do. It was one of the first things he noticed about you when Jeonghan and Joshua introduced the two of you that first night at that shitty bar you like to go to on Fridays. The real kicker had been your personality, though. Warm, kind, quick wit. A bit of a history nerd, which is his favorite thing.Â
Honestly, he loves a lot of things about you. He knows that he has to do something about that. Knows that this stopped being casual a long time ago. Seungcheol has no problem with casual hookups and keeping people in a rotation, but when it comes to you⊠he just wants you.Â
Itâs like he has no idea how to keep his distance, how to keep his feelings out of it. He doesnât mind, but he needs to figure out how to tell you. How to take that next step and move you from friends to more - if thatâs what you want, anyway.Â
âYouâre not so bad yourself,â you say back neutrally. He can see the way your eyes linger on him though, your gaze betraying the calmness of your voice, as always.
You donât get it, though. Seungcheol cannot keep his eyes off you, dragging them from top to bottom. The black dress is snug on your frame, his eyes tracing the swells of your breasts, the dip of your hips, the curve of your ass and thighs.Â
Dragging his eyes back up, he meets your gaze. That is one of his favorite things. Your eyes, full of light and depth and thoughts that he always wants to fall into. There is so much simmering under the surface that you donât say and heâs never asked.
He wants to.Â
Knocking back the rest of his drink, Seungcheol leaves the glass on the counter and walks over to you. You shift from foot to foot, eyes darting up to examine the ceiling. He smirks, feeling the nerves radiating from you as he approaches.Â
When he reaches out, you donât step away from him. You let him skim his hands up your sides, going until heâs running them over your shoulders and on either side of your neck so he can cradle your face. He turns your gaze back to him and you stare up at him through your lashes.Â
He was a goner on day one. How ridiculous to think heâs not just made this real, told you how he doesnât want a single thing to be casual and superficial between you.Â
Instead of stealing a searing kiss and pushing you back into the bedroom like he wants to, Seungcheol presses a short kiss to the corner of your mouth. Heâs too afraid that if he starts something that you wonât make it downstairs.Â
Now isnât the time for that, though. Thereâs a party upstairs and free drinks and he wants to spend time with his friends. Spend time with you.
The Seungcheol that existed before you is a stranger to him. He barely remembers what it was like to have people he wasnât genuinely interested in, what it was like to show up alone at parties and take someone home. Hardly recalls pushing people away when they wanted too much.Â
All it took was meeting you.
âCome on,â he urges gently, leading you from the room and to the elevator.Â
Seungcheol slides his phone from his pocket in the elevator. You press close against him, your arm brushing against his as it fills up with people. He notes where Wonwoo tells him to meet and puts his phone back in his pocket, leaning into you a little.
You let him, making his mouth twitch upward. You always let him do what he wants, and when you donât, an easy pout gets his way. Heâs wrapped around your finger, too. He doesnât know if you realize it, but he would give you anything you wanted without a moment's hesitation.Â
When the elevator doors open, Seungcheol takes your hand. You let him pull you into the party teeming with people, the sound of music swelling over the dull roar of the crowd. You stick closer to him, fingers squeezing him tightly as the pair of you walk toward the check-in table.Â
âThis is beautiful,â you murmur to him.Â
His first instinct is to look at you because you are beautiful. Youâre not looking at him, your neck craned to sweep over the party. He smiles at you, watching the glow of your side profile, eyes wide with wonder.
Dragging his eyes from your face, he glances around the party. It is gorgeous, with views of the entire city glittering beneath the building like a bed of stars, shimmering decorations reflecting the golden lights, a giant clock to show the time, and massive flower arrangements.Â
âItâs nice,â he agrees, shuffling to the table where he gives his name. âChoi Seungcheol.â
âPerfect, thanks.â The person working the table peels two wristbands and gestures for you both to hold out your wrists. You let go of his hand to do so, letting the attendant wrap your arm in a blue band. âHave a great night, Mr. and Mrs. Choi.âÂ
Both of you blink in surprise. You open and close your mouth as if youâre unsure how to correct them and Seungcheol laughs, shrugging as he takes your hand and leads you out of the line and into the party proper this time.
âThis way, wifey.âÂ
You roll your eyes but grin anyway, looping your arm through his offered one and tugging him close. Heâs satisfied, leading you through the tight crowd of people toward the south bar that Wonwoo had said their friends were waiting at.
Joshua spots you and waves you both over, making room at the bar for you to join. Jeonghanâs eyes flick to where your arm is looped through Seungcheol to Seungcheol himself, raising a brow. Seungcheol glares at him, urging him to shut up and Jeonghan grins, turning to order drinks at the bar.Â
Wonwoo claps Seungcheol on the back in greeting before kissing you on both cheeks and letting you sit on the only barstool available. Seungcheol moves with you pressed to your back as he leans an elbow on the bar, keeping you close. You lean into him, earning a shy smile that he tries to hide behind the rim of the champagne glass that Jeonghan hands him.
He likes this. He likes being with his friends. He likes the way you laugh and lean back further into him when you do. He likes that his friends donât bother the two of you about being attached at the hip. And he likes the way your face lights up every time he jokingly calls you wifey.Â
Seungcheol wants this.Â
He doesnât recall the last time he wanted a relationship the way he wants with you. It doesnât matter anyway. Everything before you is gone and forgotten, and what matters now are the things that are post-meeting-you.Â
Plied with lots of champagne and your laughter, Seungcheol lets you drag him onto the dance floor, wrapping your arms around him as he spins you. He doesnât know what has him more drunk, the alcohol or you. He thinks it might be you.Â
The DJ announces that itâs one minute until midnight, making Seungcheol spin and look up at the clock. The partygoers cheer, clustering together to press toward the clock to count down. Seungcheol wraps an arm around your waist, keeping you close in the tight crowd.Â
His heart flutters as he watches the numbers countdown, realizing he gets to kiss you at midnight. Heâs kissed you over a hundred times by now, but the prospect makes him giddy. His heart races as the numbers drop and he looks at you from the corner of your eye.
Youâre watching the clock, uncontrolled happiness on your face as you yell with the rest of the crowd, counting each number as it passes by.Â
When the clock strikes midnight, you peer up at him, suddenly unsure. He canât believe you donât see it, that youâd doubt for one second that he wants you to be his first kiss of the year. His heart seizes, dipping down with a smile to press his lips to yours.
Your mouth is warm and champagne-sweet, making him groan in the back of his throat. Your fingers cling to his hip, holding him by the waist as he slips a hand up to the back of your neck to hold you in place, deepening the kiss.Â
When you pull your mouth away, he makes up his mind. Fuck everything he said about keeping it casual - he doesnât want to go another minute without you knowing what he wants.Â
-
DAY NINETY THREE
âBe my girlfriend.â
The words that come from Seungcheolâs lips catch you off guard. A giggle bursts to your lips and you lean back, trying to examine him from a little farther away. You feel the glitter of champagne in your veins and the same buzz that comes with being near Seungcheol, wondering if maybe heâs had too much to drink.
âWhat?â you ask, examining his face. Heâs flushed, lips pink and smiling, but his eyes are dark and serious.
âBe my girlfriend,â he says again, this time quieter. He leans forward, pressing his forehead to yours. His breath fans your face, warm and sweetened by champagne. âI know we agreed to be casual so if you donât want more, thatâs fine. But there is nothing casual about the way I feel about you.â
Heart thundering, you laugh and cling to him a little tighter. He nudges you with his head, as though asking whatâs so funny. You donât know how to put into words that youâve wanted to be not casual for a long time, that you are dizzy with the prospect of being something more, that heâs just made the first minute of your year perfect.
Instead of trying to string together the words to tell him, you kiss him. His mouth turns upward, letting you press your palms to the sides of his face, holding him to your lips. Thereâs no one else but just the two of you, entirely in your own bubble on the rooftop.Â
Relief mixed with euphoria floods your system. Itâs a weight lifted off your shoulders, realizing that youâre not crazy, that nothing you feel about Seungcheol is casual and thatâs okay. That he feels it too.Â
Your fingers slide into the hair at the back of his neck, pulling slightly. He groans, separating your mouths to peer down at you, his lashes fanning when he blinks, dazed.Â
âDonât do that,â he whispers. âThis is a work party. Iâll fold right here.âÂ
âSo take me somewhere that isnât here and fold.â
His gummy smile is blinding, your heart soaring. âAlright, wifey.âÂ
âGonna need a ring pop at a minimum if youâre gonna keep saying that shit.â
He links your fingers together, stepping away from you. He tugs you after him and you follow. âDeal. What flavor?â
âStrawberry. I kind of want to suck something else right now, though.âÂ
Seungcheol groans and you laugh, loving the way he visibly struggles as your words land. He walks faster, a new pep in his step as you make your way toward the elevator. He shouts Wonwooâs name as he goes, waving his hand to tell him that youâre leaving.Â
Wonwooâs grin is all-knowing as he throws two thumbs up, cheering happily. You tingle with a little bit of embarrassment, scurrying toward the closing elevator door to catch it. It opens again and you both slip inside, alone and buzzing from the party and your newfound status.Â
The door closes and Seungcheol pushes in close. You press against the wall, looking up at his sharp grin, his nose nudging yours. His lips are almost on yours, the heat of them against your mouth making you dizzy and the heavy weight of his body against yours making your thoughts sticky.Â
âGonna suck something else, huh?âÂ
âUh huh.âÂ
âWanna do it right here in the elevator?âÂ
âHuh?âÂ
He bursts into laughter at your wide gaze, tapping the underside of your chin with his knuckle in jest. âIâm kidding. UnlessâŠâ
You shove him away and he starts laughing again, bending over with the force of it. You canât be annoyed by his teasing, loving the way his eyes crease at the corner and how he laughs with the full force of his body.Â
âYouâre so annoying.âÂ
âYou should have seen your face, though.âÂ
âI mean Iâll do it right now, if you want.â
His smile drops and he opens his mouth a little, shocked. âWait, really?â
âNo, but you should have seen your face.â
The elevator arriving at the appropriate floor saves him from answering. He scowls at you and you giggle, grabbing him and pushing him into the hall and toward your room. He turns on his heel, falling into step with you and fishing the room key out of his pocket.Â
Itâs cold in the room when you enter. Seungcheol had booked a one bedroom suite with a small living room and kitchenette. It was more than what you needed for the night, but it feels nice, like your own private getaway.Â
Taking you by the hand, he walks backward toward the bedroom, pulling you along. His smile is beautiful and you wear a matching one. A thrill shoots through you when you realize that Seungcheol is yours. Really yours.Â
Sitting on the bed, he pulls you into his lap. Your knees sink in the mattress on either side of his hips, ass resting on his thighs. Leaning over him, you link your hands behind the back of his neck, threading your fingers through the silky hair there.Â
Seungcheol tilts his face up toward you, eyes fluttering as you play with his hair. His arms loop around your waist, squeezing you.Â
âHi,â he breathes.Â
âHi.â
Leaning down, you slot your mouth against his. He tastes like champagne, mouth warm. Kissing him takes your breath away, thoughts guttering out as he licks into your mouth hungrily. You lose yourself in the feeling of him, feeling like youâre on fire.Â
Seungcheol falls backward on the bed. His lips are swollen and pink, eyes heavy-lidded as he stares up at you. He reaches for you but you give him a coy smile and slip from his lap, crouching to the floor and running your hands along his thighs, feeling them flex beneath your touch.Â
You love Seungcheolâs thighs. Your nails drag across the fabric and he lets out a breathy sound. His muscles twitch as you reach to brush your fingers over his zipper, making sure to press into his cock. His hips jerk upward at the barest hint of stimulation and you grin.
âItâs no elevator,â you tease. âBut will this do?âÂ
âFucking anywhere will do.âÂ
Seungcheol has always been sensitive. Heâs easy to rile, cock already firm by the time youâre undoing his belt and heâs helping you pull his dress pants down his thighs. You eye the dark patch in his briefs, proud that with just a little bit of kissing and some light touching heâs already leaking at the tip.
Sitting high on your knees, you lean forward, tongue pressing wetly to the tip of his cock through the fabric. A hand shoots to the back of your head, his fingers gripping you firmly as you laugh, tongue still pressed to him and soaking through his briefs.
âDonât you dare tease me tonight,â he warns, voice shaky. âThat is not wifey behavior.âÂ
You remove your tongue, pouting and moving to press a kiss to his thigh. âYou never let me tease you.âÂ
âIâm not patient.â Your teeth scrape the softness of his flesh and his legs twitch, knees knocking your shoulder. âBaby, I am so serious.â
Biting your bottom lip to hide a smile, you give in. You know with certainty heâd let you drag this out if you really wanted to. Seungcheol is impatient and greedy and demanding, but he also lets you do what you want when it comes down to it.Â
Instead of testing his grace, you peel his briefs down, freeing his cock. Your mouth waters at his thick length, your hand automatically reaching up to grab him. You swipe your thumb through the precum gathered, using it to slide down the full length of his shaft.
Seungcheolâs hips buck. You grip him properly, working him slowly as you shuffle closer on your knees. They already hurt, hotel carpet digging into them but you ignore it in favor of watching the way his fingers slowly undo the button of his shirt, needing to shuck the fabric off.Â
âYouâre pretty,â you note absently. His stomach flexes when he sits up to slide his shirt off of his shoulders. He looks down at you, pupils dilated. âVery, very pretty.âÂ
âYouâre a work of art yourself.â
Instead of laying back down flat, he leans back on his palms, letting his head fall back. Seungcheol shuts his eyes, face tilted up at the ceiling as though in prayer. âFeels good.â
Humming happily, you lean forward and slowly run the flat of your tongue up the base of his shaft. That draws a low moan out of him, his chest rising and falling as he pants. Youâre fascinated by his reactions, watching his face and body language carefully as you swirl your tongue around the crown of his cock.
Heâs responsive, fingers digging into the sheets in an effort not to grab your head and take control. Heâs testing his patience, letting you bring him into the wet heat of your mouth at your pace, sucking lazily.Â
âFuck,â he groans. You hum around him and he shakes his head, shivering. âYouâre gonna kill me.â
Good you think, setting a proper place as you swallow him down, letting your spit pool to help make the glide easier. Itâs messy and wet, just the way Seungcheol likes it, his moans backtracking the slick sounds coming from your mouth.
What you canât fit in your mouth properly, you cover with your hand, squeezing periodically as you stroke upward, meeting your stretched lips.Â
âGod,â Seungcheol whispers. âYou know how to suck cock.â
Pulling off of him with a wet pop, you grin, feeling the sting in your mouth from the stretch. Your lips are cum and spit-slicked, sticky as you continue to stroke him.Â
âThanks,â you laugh. âI heard Iâm wifey material.â
âFucking, shit, yeah a little bit. Fuckkkk, mouth please.âÂ
You comply, sucking him back into your mouth. Heâs putty underneath you, hips twitching off the bed a little as soft sounds drip from his mouth. You watch, totally hypnotized by the way he moved, the way his hairline gets a little sweaty as he nods, encouraging you.Â
Biting his lip, he lifts a hand from the bed to grab at you, pulling you off of him. âCome here,â he growls, opening his.Â
Seungcheol pulls you to him, not caring that your mouth is a mess. His tongue delves in, exploring the mixed taste of champagne and precum, hands pulling at your dress to peel it off of you.Â
âLet me sit against the headboard,â he pants, breaking the kiss to scoot backward. You peel your underwear off and toss them, following him across the mattress as he settles. He pats his lap and reaches for you. âCome here, baby.âÂ
You settle into his lap again, mouth melding to his. His hands explore you, gripping your ass, squeezing your waist, running up your front to pinch at your nipples. You moan into his mouth, carding your fingers in his hair and pulling at the stimulation, your head tilting back a little.
He takes the opportunity to attach his lips to your throat, biting sharply and soothing the sting with his tongue. Sinking a little lower, you feel your pussy brush against his cock and you sigh, gently rolling your hips to slide your sticky folds up his shaft.Â
Seungcheol groans against you, mouth feverish against your skin. He maps your throat, kissing and biting his way to your chest, where he steals a pert nipple into his mouth to give a harsh suck. You squeal and he grins, plucking at your sensitive bud with his teeth.Â
Holding onto him, you let him lavish attention to your tits the way he wants, hands squeezing, tongue flicking. It feels good. Aflame, you continue to roll your hips shallowly in his waist, just giving the barest of stimulation to you both.
A hand slides between your legs, his fingers finding your swelling clit, pressing against it. You whine loudly, fighting off a violent shiver. He grins where he has your breast in his mouth, sucking generously as he lazily circles your clit with his fingers.Â
âCheol,â you whisper-whine. âYou said no teasing.â
âI said no teasing me.â His fingers slide backward and dip into your entrance teasingly. You clench around nothing, aching for him to do something. âFlustered, huh?âÂ
âPlease give me something.â
He presses his lips against the side of your jaw, grinning. âFine.â He sinks a single finger into you and you sigh in immediate relief. It isnât enough but itâs something, your hips rocking to take him in deeper. âBetter?â
âI can take more.âÂ
âOf course you can.â He pushes in another finger, the stretch so good. âYouâre my girl. You can take what I give you.â
Dropping your head to his shoulder, you nod. You hide your face in his flushed skin, riding his fingers as he slowly slides them home, working you gently. They press against your sensitive spot and you curse, gripping him a little tighter.Â
Impatient and needing more, you grind yourself forward, fucking his hand properly. He laughs, letting you take what you need, cupping you fully so the heel of his palm grinds into your clit. Your movements are frenzied, driven by the desire for him, the feeling curling inside you.Â
âJust like that,â he encourages. âFuck yourself on my fingers just like that.âÂ
You do, thighs aching and body shaking. The sheets stick to your legs as you work yourself up, sweaty palms sliding against Seungcheolâs shoulders. He whispers in your ear, voice low and scratchy, adding to the building mania inside of you.Â
âShit,â you hiss, feeling the tightness in your stomach start to boil over.Â
âCome on, come around my fingers. You got it.âÂ
His gentle voice pushes you over all the way and you clench around his fingers, coming undone. Your hips stop moving and your legs squeeze around his as you seize up. Seungcheol is having none of it, taking the lead to drive his fingers up into you as you flutter around him.
âOh,â you gasp as he finer fucks you through the rest of your orgasm, sucking at a tender spot on your neck until youâre trembling and a mess. âOkay, okay, okay.âÂ
Seungcheol takes it easy on you, pulling his fingers from between your legs with a slick noise. You heave against him, catching your breath while he brings his fingers to his mouth and sucks obnoxiously.Â
âMmm.â
âReally?â
âYes.â He smacks your ass and you squeak. âRide my cock like that?âÂ
Huffing, you extend to your full height on your knees. He grabs the base of his shaft, eyes fixed on the mess between your legs as you sink down slowly. His tip breaches you, both of you letting out a sound as you keep going, holding your breath as he stretches you open.
Seungcheol taps your waist. âBreathe.âÂ
You do, inhaling a breath as you nestle in his lap, seated fully, clenching around him. âThanks.â
âMhmm.âÂ
Seungcheolâs hands move up your sides, his eyes drinking in every inch of you. This time, you know the look in his eye is real. His gaze is covetous, looking at you like youâre his because you are.Â
You catch his hands with yours, linking your finger and squeezing. He smiles, looking up at you with dark locks of hair in his face. You smile back, starting to roll your hips, using his hands to steady yourself.
Everything feels like an exposed nerve. The cool air of the hotel room brushes across your back, making you shiver. The mattress dips under your movement, your thighs flexing to keep your balance steady, Seungcheolâs grip on you helping.Â
âYouâre so perfect,â Seungcheol mutters, using your linked hands to pull you toward him. Your hands slip from him, going to the headboard to help lift you instead. His grip finds your waist, aiding in your movement while his mouth finds your breasts. âGod these tits.âÂ
An ache settles in your thighs but you ignore it, chasing an orgasm. You tremble in his hold, breath punching out of you as he mumbles your name, watching you with fucked out eyes and lips parted, like youâre giving him everything he ever wanted.
You kind of feel that way. The way he looks at you isnât that different from before, but now youâre confident in it, realizing that everything with Seungcheol felt too intimate because it was. Casual was never the right name for it, neither of you having any idea how to really be no strings attached.Â
âMy fucking legs hurt,â you admit, panting. âCan you take over?âÂ
âMhmm.â Seungcheol surges forward, knocking you backward onto the bed. You laugh, bouncing a little as he pulls out and helps maneuver you. âTurn around for me.âÂ
With shaking arms, you follow his instruction. The sheets cling to you as you roll, making you huff and swat at them. He chuckles, peeling them away from your sweaty skin while you settle on your stomach, arching your ass a little.Â
He palms your left cheek, groaning and dragging his blunt nails down the curve to your hip where he grabs you. âUnreal,â he whispers, to either you or himself.Â
You gasp when he thrusts pack in, punching the air from your lungs as he sets a sharp pace. You jostle on the bed, grabbing the sheets and knotting your hands in them to keep you in place, a stream of whimpers leaving you.Â
A hand slips up your spine, pressing flat between your shoulder blades, pushing you down further into the bed. You gasp and nod, Seungcheol taking it as a sign to put more weight into it, angling his hips so heâs fucking down into you.Â
Itâs hard to breathe, the dizziness taking over as your skin starts to turn to static, orgasm so close that you can feel the buzz between your legs. He keeps going like that, pinning you hard to the bed as his hips crash into yours.Â
His name leaves your mouth in a cry as you squeeze around him, letting loose. He curses, picking up his pace, ignoring the wet squelch as he does, palm pressing you harder into the bed as you come.Â
You think you might disintegrate, unable to do anything but make broken sounds as he chases his orgasm. Just when you think you might not get another breath, he comes, the pressure on your back lifting a little. You gasp for air, feeling the room tilt as his thrusts slow, becoming gentle.Â
Seungcheolâs hands are soothing on your back, fingers dancing up and down your spine, delicate. Heâs muttering something to you but you canât hear him, the pounding of your heart far too loud, pulse rattling in your ears.Â
When his hips are still, his hands keep moving. He leans over you, careful not to put his weight on you, mouth kissing across your shoulders. Your cheek is pressed flat against the sheet as you pant, coming down from a fever pitch.Â
âYou okay if I get up and get you water?â the question is whispered across your cheek, where Seungcheol presses a tender kiss. You nod and he kisses you again before peeling away from you.Â
Laying in the bed, you drift, listening to him shuffle around to the kitchen. Youâre sleepy but more aware now. When the bed dips again, you crack your eye open, watching as he navigates carefully on his knees, two glasses of water in hand.Â
âCan you sit up or do you need help?â You shake your head and muster the strength you have left to sit up. Your muscles spasm as you do, a groan leaving your mouth as the room spins from the change in perspective. âYou okay?â
âThirsty,â you rasp, reaching for the glass he offers. Gulping down the cool water, youâre aware of his eyes on you, watching you drain the glass as he sips his. âThank you.â
He takes the empty glass and kisses your lips. âMhmm. Need more?â
âNo, Iâm good. I just need to sleep for five hundred years, no big deal.âÂ
âDamn, five hundred goes crazy. Do you think weâll have flying cars by then?âÂ
Seungcheol puts both glasses on the nightstand and peels back the covers of the bed. He slips under them, patting the spot next to him. You crawl over, limbs heavy and uncoordinated. He laughs at you and you scowl, but manage to clamber in next to him, warm beneath the blankets and tucked into his chest.
âYes, definitely. And like giant sexy holograms advertising porn, probably.â
âThatâs the first thing you think of in the future? Porn?â
âListen,â you huff, laying your head against his chest and closing your eyes. âIâm still a little champagne buzzed and you just fucked me until I couldnât breathe for a while. Cut me slack.âÂ
âSure thing, wifey.âÂ
âUgh. Is that our thing now?âÂ
âMhmm. Everything pre-relationship has henceforth been replaced with the relationship-only era. Pretend you have amnesia.âÂ
A huff of laughter leaves you. âSure thing.âÂ
âI mean I feel like I have amnesia.â You give him a questioning look. Heâs contemplative, staring with unseeing eyes as he plays with your fingers. âI had an entire life and habits before you, and I swear itâs like sometimes my memory actually starts with that first night at the bar.âÂ
âReally?â
âYeah. Youâre just around a lot and I like to think itâs always been that way. And Iâm kind of sorry for taking so long to admit nothing about this was casual for me.âÂ
You smile. âWasnât for me either.âÂ
âGood.â He snuggles into you, settling in silence for a few moments. âThanks for letting me win pool that first night.âÂ
âI did not let you win that game, oh my god.âÂ
âJust admit it! You wanted to taste my goodies and you let me win.âÂ
âIâm gonna give you some damn amnesia,â you mutter, but grin as he hugs you tight.
âSure thing, wifey. Sure thing.âÂ

do you really think radical feminism is unsalvageable from a transfeminist perspective? i've been reading a lot of Talia Bhatt's writing lately, and it really reminds me of a lot of the stuff you've talked about on your blog; i find her argument that allowing TERF ideology to subsume the entirety of second-wave feminist theory is throwing out the baby with the bathwater to be incredibly compelling. a theory which centers patriarchy to be the radix of gendered violence and oppression, which is uncompromising and does not give into liberal feminist ideas about womanhood being a "meaningless category," gender liberation involving essentially defining trans women out of existence, etc, seems sorely needed at a moment where liberal feminism has vaguely hand-waved in trans rights specifically in order to prioritize trans *men* and valorize masculinity while continuing to abjectly marginalize transfems, and i find Bhatt's total rejection of white cis TERF co-option of radical feminism and reclamation for the new wave of transfeminist thought to fit that need. anyway that's not intended to ask you to argue with me or anything, i'm just as interested in hearing why you disagree as i am in hearing if you do agree, and i'm not looking to convince you or be convinced either way! i've just been thinking about this a lot lately since stumbling across her (honestly incredible) theory on third-sexing and getting introduced to the concept through that, i'm still working through my thoughts on it and looking for more to read both on it and in opposition to it, and the discussion on radical feminism prompted me to see if you had any thoughts; no worries if not.
yeah i mean @taliabhattwrites and i are literally mutuals on here even so i would hope im not jsut totally denigrating her incredibly insightful & groundbreaking commentaries on the subject when i criticise the second wave haha!
like i donât know if i have/would say âradical feminism is unsalvageableâ because im not even sure what that would mean right? like radical feminism isnât a concrete object that we can literally build/tear down but yes of course there is almost always worth in reading feminist history & perspectives even those that we fundamentally disagree with because as you said there is a lot to be gleaned from the theories & works & histories.
im honestly not sure where youâve gotten the impression that like i would just throw out âthe baby with the bathwaterâ so to speak because to be honest iâve been trying to be pretty careful about not just dismissing all radical feminism as fundamentally transmisogynistic specifically because of the incredible value iâve found in Taliaâs approach
#if this is in reference to my Bechdel posting#then iâd have to say i donât think itâs throwing the baby out with the bathwater to call her a terf#because (a) i donât think her works have any true original feminist merit#and (b) i donât think it is a total dismissal to recognise that she Is A Terf and thatâs unacceptable and shouldnât be celebrated under#any circumstance

Borrowing My Sonâs Body
Dan:
After I broke my leg, I wasnât sure how I was going to make dinner for the family this year for big get together. Luckily, my son Sam had a great idea! Just borrow his body to get the job done.
So now I have Samâs young body while heâs laying in my bed with mine on. The only thing that keeps throwing me off is how much I like having his body.
I feel weird to even think it but my sonâs fit and it seems to get turned by the littlest of things. I really forgot what itâs like having a body this age Iâve had a boner all day long and I donât really know what to do about it.
And now that Iâm done cooking and the family shouldnât be here for a couple more hours⊠I guess I can take care of it real quick?
So I went inside and went upstairs to check on Sam first. I carefully cracked the door to peak inside just in case heâs asleepâ and to my surprise I see Sam literally jerking off and playing with my dick!!!
I almost said something but hey! I might as well do the same with his body.
So I headed to his room and stripped off all of his clothes. I looked down at my sonâs perky junk and without any hesitation I started playing with it.
I start stroking his junk faster and faster. But in a matter of minutes, cum squirts out!
I clean off his body and walk to my room. This time I just walked right in.
Sam must of just finished up because he still had my dick out and was covered in my cum.
âShit! Dad!!â
âHey bud! Having fun in here?,â I say winking at him.
âUmm⊠yeah, sorry! This is isnât what it looks like!â
âListen son, itâs okay! I just finished up doing the same thing. Although, yours didnât last that long. I wanted to see if we can stay like this until tomorrow.â
âWow! Are you sure?â
âYeah! Iâm enjoying your body and it seems like youâre enjoying mine.â
I look down at my older dick and grinned at it.
Sam began to laugh and said, âyeah I like your body a lot. We can stay like this as long as you want dad.â
âThanks son!â
Teddy
Christian:
Oh shit! I donât know what to do. Here stands my uncle Cameronâs body withy freaking childhood teddy bear attached it. I was playing around with a couple of spells when he walked in and then this happened âŠ
The weird part is his head isnât communicating at all and yet it seems like the teddy bear is in control of his body.
I watched as the teddy bear feels up and down his new hairy arms down his new chest all the way to his legs thighs⊠he gets to my uncleâs junk and generally pats at it.
I watch as he tries to navigate his shorts he had on and gently peels them back. He put one of my uncleâs hands into his pants and begins peeing around.
â hey can you hear me?â I asked the bear.
He stops for a second almost like he was looking up at me.
âSo you can hear me,â I say to him.
He walks towards me and I feel a little nervous. I wasnât sure what he was gonna do, but then he embraces me into a giant hug.
Not gonna lie it feels kinda good having my uncleâs big strong lawn wrapped around me. My uncle and I are very different. Heâs a very stereotypical straight man, but one thing I would never actually admit is my attraction to his body.
I feel the teddy bear began to explore my body like he just did my uncles.
He gets to my bulge and begins to fondle out a bit. I taken my surroundings and realize it is just us in the room.
So I begin to fondle his junk as well.
We both eventually pull off our shorts. Standing close together, slowly, jerking each other off.
I begin to play with his nipples. I even put one in my mouth which is causes him to squirm a bit. I pull his body in for a tight hug. A rock hard dicks are rubbing up against each others. I squeeze his hairy ass.
He even does the same to me and then he does something that surprises me. I feel him insert one of my uncleâs fingers into my hole.
He does it so carefully, and if I didnât know any better I think heâs done this before.
I say to him, â letâs go to the room.â
I lead him to my uncleâs bedroom and we both hop into bed.
I climb on top of him and make my way down to his dick. Itâs a beautiful dick, thick and long complemented by a big hairy bush and big hairy balls.
I run my tongue from the head of it down to his ball sack. I get his dick, nice and wet before I get directly on top of it.
He helps me ease it into my hole. Itâs just so tight getting in. But once we get going, he begins to start thrusting back-and-forth on me.
Moaning loudly and heâs using his hands to gently play with my cock.
Iâm nearly screaming and our bodies are sweaty, and we canât stop touching each other all over.
I turned my head around and I look at my uncleâs big hairy, stinky feet. I wanna suck on his toes so bad but I donât wanna stop this moment.
ïżŒ I watch his toes wiggle from excitement and it sends me over the edge. Heâs thrusting in me faster and faster. Heâs even going harder. I canât take anymore, but somehow in the same time I cum and I feel his dick pour loads into my hole.
I looked down at my uncleâs cum cover chest and I pull his dick out of me. His dick is still leaking and I even get a taste of it.
I turn around and lay back to my face or directly next to his feet. They take a big with his feet smell like a dirty gym. He just got back from a run earlier when he first walked in, and I realized he wasnât even wearing socks.
I run my tongue up and down his soul. I realize itâs tickling the teddy bear a little bit.
A kiss each of his toes before I crawl my way back up. I feel him wrap his arm around me and I lean into my uncles chest.
I look up at the teddy bear and I say, â do you want to stay this way forever?â
He gives me a thumbs up.
âOkay but we will have to work on your head. Itâs cute but it will freak people out,â I say to him.
He pulls me in tighter and I can feel his fingers running up and down my back. Soon I fell asleep in his arms.
Two weeks later, Ted, which is what I like to call him now and I have gotten really close. Heâs very smart and all they canât speak. He does write to me.
I wanna show him so much, but I need to figure out how to change his head. I may be getting close in my spell book, but I want to be 100% sure.
So for now, me and Ted will just stay in the house. Honestly, itâs fine by me because the sex is amazing.
Coconut Head
Kent:
On vacation and something very strange happened to my older cousin. He was walking out back from the beach when all of a sudden a coconut fell off of a tree. It was so powerful that it knocked off his head and landed right on its shoulders.
I tried to help him pull it off, but it wonât move. We even took him to the hospital and they said just be patient. The coconut is on his neck so tight, but it will eventually loosen up. They said it could take weeks or even over a month.
So now Iâm having to spend a lot of time taking care of my cousinâs body and his head.
Although itâs nice is if he does get a little sassy or bossy with me can always just leave his head in another room.
But whatâs been really fun is while his head is away I get to explore his sexy body. My cousin is super hot and super ripped. I donât even mind the coconut me and them because it lets me do whatever I want.
Iâll leave his head in another bedroom at night, which just leaves me in his body alone together. Iâll stay up all night, smelling and licking his pit and feet. Sucking off his cock licking his hole. Iâve even taught his body how to jerk me off and how to give a good foot job.
Iâm not gonna lie I kind of hope the coconut gets stuck forever. Heâs really talented with my cousinâs toes and heâs a great cuddler at night.

assorted TTRPG things
nugget from the tab bonfire: at some point I was reading about RPGs. some things that are old, some are new(ish). here are some links, since I think they are interesting, and some additional comments.
first-up: my own RPG posts are now archived here. that section of my site is looking a whole lot more fleshed out now.
1. ritual
in 2021, Meguey Baker wrote this one about 'ritual in game design', fitting TTRPGs into her frame of faciliating rituals for essentially therapeutic purposes, aimed at parents. since I like talking in a vaguely (vaguely) anthropological way about the analogies between TTRPGs and other activities (improv comedy, kink, wrestling), this is very relevant.
by Meguey's definition, a ritual is defined through this series of words: intentional contained conscious creative action. of course, she gives these words fairly specialised definitions. she's mostly interested in addressing TTRPGs that go into tough, bleedy places, described in books like Alice Is Missing, BFF, and Bluebeardâs Bride - of these I'm only familiar with the third but I'm kind of aware of the genre of game she's talking about. she suggests that these principles don't really apply if you're just playing to hang out and have a good time, but to my mind, just because you're less formal about it doesn't mean that's not an aspect of ritual, and the analysis is similarly applicable there, just lower-stakes.
in fact I think a whole lot of human activities are rituals (classic bryn move to grab a conceptual hammer and start seeing nails everywhere). the analogy goes the other way too, rituals are kind of like games.
I'm not entirely convinced the breakdown into jargon words really does a lot for me, but the crucial thing here is the sort of entering and exiting into a constrained social space which has its special set of rules. meguey writes these cool little coloured lists which depict the various stages of getting you into a game/ritual headspace and exiting it afterwards...
...and specialises it to the case of roleplaying games as you see. it's pretty BDSM-like isn't it? sure, that's something I'm currently interested in, I recently read The New [Topping/Bottoming] Books, but it certainly does suggest that analogy strongly for me; I think a general recognition that RPGs should have aftercare would do a lot more for the scene than a lot of the other 'safety tools' like X-cards and so on. (a weaker analogy is the principles of animation: anticipation, action, follow-through.)
this idea of ritual also strongly parallels the definition of 'play' of roger callilois:
1. it is free, or not obligatory 2. it is separate from the routine of life, occupying its own time and space 3. it is uncertain, so that the results of play cannot be pre-determined and the player's initiative is involved 4. it is unproductive in that it creates no wealth, and ends as it begins economically speaking 5. it is governed by rules that suspend ordinary laws and behaviours and that must be followed by players 6. it involves make-believe that may be set against 'real life'.[6]:â100â101â
as a set of traits which describe a somewhat fuzzy sphere of activity. meguey's account of 'ritual' focuses more on the set of steps you follow to enter and leave the ritual space, but it is describing, I think, a heavily overlapping 'thing'.
why so explicitly break down a process that most people seem to come by naturally? well, probably for the same reason that kink people do it: the more you play with [emotional] fire, the more care you must exercise to keep it contained. but it is also pretty important, I think, to pursue some degree of ritual for the middle part to actually work. you need to switch mental gears first to get yourself operating in 'game space'. same goes for a number of other 'spaces' for that matter. in RPGs we already have plenty of rituals: getting set up around the table (for offline games), general chitchat beforehand to get us feeling social with the other players, the brief summary of the previous session to mark the transition into RPG mode...
one non-obvious extension that Meguey makes, in the third excerpt above is to the actual text of RPG books, in terms of how they are presented to the reader. I think this is genuinely quite an insight - when you read a book you get into RPG space a bit and imagine playing the game, building up the fantasy of what playing it will entail (c.f. what's the book for, part 3).
though, that said - it is tricky to pursue a strict ritual structure in presentation, I think, because I think RPG books tend to be read very non-linearly. only quite short games tend to get read cover-to-cover in one sitting. otherwise you tend to skip to the part that you need. still: the manner of presentation is very important to an RPG book serving its purposes. and this is a fascinating frame for it.
I'm not sure this essay necessarily gives a new direction (as a designer or a player), but it does give an interesting angle to understand things I was already doing previously, and do them a little more deliberately.
for example, when I make a point of mentioning moments that I enjoyed in the time after an RPG session before we all part ways, that is the 'return/celebration' part of the ritual, and crucially it reassures everyone that even if they were playing an unpleasant character or there was inter-character conflict in the session, it was something I was looking for and appreciated. I do this because there have been times when I've felt a bad kind of bleed, fearing that my character was 'too much' and was detracting from the session, or that a conflict in-character reflected an OOC conflict. having an explicit affirmation helps drive away those fears.
2. rule zero in D&D
this history of 'rule zero' in D&D editions dates all the way back to 2012 (although it seems to have been updated since), but it's still very relevant to my current efforts to understand RPGs, books, and all the weird practices around them, the role of 'rulings' in OSR, etc etc.
right off the bat, I appreciate the nuances that this early paragraph expresses:
The attitude towards rulings vs. rules in the game shows up  - directly and explicitly in the rules text - implicitly in the text and detectable via textual analysis  - in the surrounding publications considered semi-canonical (Dragon magazine, nowadays forums and designer blogs), and  - the culture of gamers surrounding it.
while the rest of the post is still focused on what books say rather than what people did with those books, it's a relief when people note that there is a difference.
so, the essay traces a general evolution of ideas about what role the rules in the book are supposed to follow as D&D moved away from wargaming and passed through the hands of different publishers. how much interpolation and discretion the DM is supposed to apply to the text, how authoritative they're supposed to be at their own table compared to the non-DM players...
it's fascinating to observe how the culture of the game evolved. it's also tricky to distil the different currents down into a brief summary - I tried and realised I was just recapping the article in less detail. luckily the author wrote a summary so I can just quote that:
0e â the referee is an aribiter and fills in the gaps 1e â the DM is large and in charge, the rules are pretty good, your players are at bothâs behest B/X and 2e â the DM and players are both important, the rules are super mutable 3e/early 3.5e â the rules and players and DM are leveled out in importance, meaning rulings are minimized and a negotiation with players BECMI/late 3.5e/4e â the rules are pretty fixed and players and DM are equal and subject to the rules as law; RAW is an option OSR and Pathfinder â splitting off in their own directions in reaction to 4e, OSR back to a mix of 0e and B/X flavored attitudes and Pathfinder to a hybrid of 1e/2e/3e attitudes 5e â The DM is clearly in charge and can ignore/change rules and rolls as they deem wise, with the goal of everyone having fun (as opposed to the sometimes-stated 1e goal of âkeeping the players in their placeâ.) It reincorporated a lot of the 1e and 2e thinking into the game to an even greater degree than Pathfinder. PF2e â Effectively back to 3e positioning fairly exactly. It stepped back away from where PF1e and 5e were going and got a little less enthusiastic about GM authority, carefully scoping it to interpretation and, sometimes, changes to make things fun. Maybe a *little* more towards 5e than 3e was, but only by a hair.
anyway, there are a couple of interesting points I want to pull out of the discussion. first is this insightful comment on the broader implications of rules that grant abilities - something to discuss further in a later post...
The problem with [D&D 3.5e's claim that you can try anything and the rules only govern chances of success] from a textual interpretation standpoint is that itâs hard to not interpret the raft of âpossibilityâ options in the 3e branch of D&D as being restriction of options. I can try to throw my opponent in a grapple â until a feat comes out that says âIn a grapple, you can now throw your opponent.â Thus despite mitigating statements by the designers, their design itself passively promulgates an approach to the rules as written.
there's also an interesting line about how 'old school' the OSR actually is, answer being that it's complicated.
Some, however, consider this to be a bit of a retcon of how old school gaming actually worked. As you can see from this research, it is and it isnât â the ârulings vs. rulesâ concept was very strong especially in B/X and 2e, somewhat less so in 0e/1e, and actively militated against in BECMI. Hackmaster and the Knights of the Dinner Table comic prominently parody the not uncommon rules-adherence mode of play in AD&D. As all nostalgia does, the Quick Primer picks certain elements out of the past to bring back and leaves aside some other elements.
finally, we have this comment about the (then very new) 5th edition approach to framing its rules:
It also appears to take a hint from the OSRâs formulation of ârulings, not rulesâ as well as the prominent fiction-first modern indie games like Apocalypse World when it describes the basic pattern of play â 1. The DM describes the environment 2. The players describe what they want to do (and the DM decides how to resolve those actions â importantly, the PCs donât decide what rules they use) 3. The DM narrates the results
...which is somewhat true to my experience of 5e, although I think there is still a fairly significant component of 'I use this ability on my character sheet' in the game (I use this weapon, I cast this spell, I use this special ability). So the players do often decide what rules they want to invoke. Although, that is also true of Apocalypse World - something to go into another day.
mostly I think it's really helpful to have a proper sense of the space of practices represented by D&D, since popular discourse (including the game's rulebooks) way too often seems to assume there is only one way that D&D is played. this is a good stab at exploring some of the dimensions, and will definitely inform whatever is the next investigation I make into the structure of RPGs.
for another angle on D&D history, I came across this old (2016) ENWorld post tracing how Gygax got increasingly proprietary and litigious with D&D, and hostile to people putting their own spins on it.
it seems like for more on this topic of early RPG history I should be taking a look at The Elusive Shift by John Peterson, so posssibly more to come on this subject when I get round to reading that one.
3. blorb
I came across Sandra Snan's website, idiomdrottning.org, which is another one of those classic static-site treasure troves of someone's thoughts on everything for like the last decade.
like me, she came back to playing trad games like D&D after spending a while exploring the storygames milieu. She landed on a set of practices relating to the concreteness of the setting, in explicit opposition to 'no myth'-style games where anything not stated out loud is fair game to be modified for the sake of narrative.
she calls this 'blorb', and as these things tend to, it gets something like a manifesto. many other articles on this site talk about various facets of roleplaying games are written about on the site in relation to this.
'blorb' focuses on the relationship between preparation and improvisation: making a big show of referring to things on paper, and making decisions in the open, to reinforce the sort of metanarrative that there is an underlying reality even if it hasn't fully been discovered yet. it emphasises more granular simulation over abstraction.
since it's a little hard to navigate Sandra's archives, I've gathered the posts that are relevant to the subject here:
the chasm width problem (motivating, raising the issue that few games explicitly address the how of DMing)
blorb principles
realism and blorb (which discusses the other name 'klokkverk' used elsewhere in the milieu, and compares it to 'no myth') + the fictioneers talk about blorb again
radically transparent DM-ing
say the DC
antiblorb
GM-less roleplaying games
a blorb thought
the quest queue
there's probably others but these are the main ones I read
for contrast, no myth, a somewhat overlapping and somewhat very different paradigm of games that broadly sums up the norms of the Forge/'story games' tradition.
to sandra, 'blorb' is a statement of the type of roleplaying she finds vastly more satisfying to operate, and the crucial elements to make that happen.
what I find interesting about blorb is that, since its main interlocutor is the Forge/story-games tradition, it puts a fair bit of discussion into how this affects the fiction in practice. e.g. what you should prepare and what you can still improvise, and how the existence of the 'gloracle' (the combination of prepped materials and dice/rules, and rigour in consulting them) shapes our notion of 'the fiction'.
via this post, vincent baker back in 2012 defined RPGs thus:
To me, the crucial feature that makes a game an RPG is that it works by the (so-called) lumpley primple: in order to play, we have to create fictional stuff and agree that, for gameplay purposes, it's true. This is a pretty technical and inclusive definition. It includes Once Upon a Time and that game where you sit in a circle and pretend that some of you are werewolves, for instance.
something I find very interesting RPGs is the process of 'synchronisation' of the shared fiction. the idea of 'shared fiction' is something of an elaborate illusion. every player has a different version of it, with different emphases, different things that are fresh in memory, different interpretations of the images...
consider verbal descriptions of locations. my sense of what is in a scene will constantly be adjusted based on the stream of description I'm receiving from other players - the 'shared fiction' is at best something we approach asymptotically.
in an extreme example, a DM could lead with an elaborate description of the architecture, decorations, and layout of the room, before wrapping up with 'and curled around the central pillar is a mighty red dragon'. dun dun dun! suddenly, I have to recontextualise everything in the scene I was building in my head to accomodate the presence of the dragon.
the unreliability of this communications channel was a source for a vein of classic D&D humour, such as the Dread Gazebo of yore, where the communication channel breaks down leading to an inconsistency in the 'shared' fiction.
'no myth' and similar ideas come from the recognition that, until something is said out loud and enters part of the shared fiction, it can be changed freely between any possibility consistent with the 'established' facts. sort of like the wave function collapse algorithm. they take the attitude that you should do this deliberately to maximise drama and add complications, taking on more of a writer/director role. this character enters a bar, what should they encounter there? it would be fucked up if they encountered their ex, right? ergo their ex is there.
there is a degree of this in every RPG, not just your high-improv post-Forge story games. in order for some sort of consensus to be reached, parts of it must be black-boxed and unpredictable. for example, if I am inhabiting a character, I have my idea of how they will act and what they're feeling and thinking about, and that's authoritative. but that means for everyone else's characters, I have my impressions and predictions, but they're subject to being updated as soon as that player speaks.
for Sandra, this recognition that everything is getting moved around for drama undermines the substance of the world - an inescapable awareness even if the players take pains to make the established, spoken-out-loud fiction consistent.
so, additional 'authority' is central to the 'blorb' playstyle. that is, in addition to each player's authority to make up stuff within their domain (e.g. what their character does), you make a big point of deferring to some additional authorities such as pre-prepped material and dice (which Sandra calls the 'gloracle'), and making it explicit to the players that you're doing so. for example, you might talk about the random encounter tables you're using and what would change their contents, or declare the DC before every roll.
it's kind of a defensive style of DMing, in that it's entirely designed to forestall any suspicion of 'fudging' behind the scenes. the tradeoff is: more explicit discussion of game mechanics which might detract from the sort of 'atmosphere', but equally a stronger sense of inhabiting an external world where things are 'really' happening 'offscreen'.
to me, the idea of 'fudging' doesn't bother me nearly as much as it seems to bother Sandra, but I think there is some truth to the thought that if everything is subject to random tables or pure off-the-dome improv, the game can start to feel a very homogeneous. as Sandra puts it in one of her articles:
I donât want to expand randomly as we go either, because if everything is randomly rolled as you go along, whereâs the agency? South becomes the same as north becomes the same as west because wherever you go, the dice are furnishing for you, so the choice about where to go matters less.
it's probably got something to do with information theory, right? once you become familiar with the table, and you know when the table will be invoked, you've broadly found out what there is to know about that thing. there are only so many bits of information.
I was saying the other day, games are interesting because they are something to explore through interacting with them to discover all their weird nuances. players are pretty good at sniffing out how complex and varied the underlying system is. a wide set of interesting, spicy locations - and logical relations between them - has more nuances to discover than a random table with, say, 10 entries.
the problem is of course that such a prep-focused playstyle can lead to huge amounts of 'wasted' effort fleshing out elements of the gloracle which may never be activated, especially if players don't spend their time rubbing against your creation in various ways to discover its nuances. Sandra's approach is to work out what's easy to improvise on the fly (the 'wallpaper') and what is crucial to pin down in advance, and largely prepare the latter - the difference, I guess, coming down to experience. we can think of it in programming terms: a small authoritative state and things that can be derived from that.
in my experience, at least some players have become a lot more considerate of the workload of GMing. far from trying to resist 'railroading', they will often generally deliberately try to steer themselves towards whatever location a DM has prepared as a courtesy; meanwhile the GM will be able to get a sense of where the players are planning to go so they can prep between sessions. however, that is contrary to the more 'sandboxy' approach where the core appeal is 'you can do pretty much anything', which is what Sandra is trying to generate I think.
I'm too much of an improv-focused GM to really become a partisan of 'blorb' - for me, discovering improv-oriented story games after D&D was as revelatory as discovering D&D after storygames was for Sandra lol. I trust somewhat in my ability to come up with weird interesting stuff on the fly and flesh it out later, and I tend to find the moment of being in the hotseat of an RPG gets the creative juices flowing like nothing else, so it's actually quite difficult to come up with anything good during prep.
however, I think there is a lot to be said for the value of making at least certain things concrete, and communicating that to the players, and Sandra makes a good case for showing your hand. it's a way to make the shared fantasy take on certain qualities it won't have if it remains purely arbitrary improv, even if the only real functional difference is when you make something up. both because it's hard to keep track of everything in your head without some kind of aid, and because the first idea you come up with will rarely be the richest, most interesting.
so next time i run a game, I'm not going to take such a zero-prep, all-improv approach, but try and work a bit harder on 'overall consistency'.
definitely a provocative blog to encounter...

So this post, by @rei-ismyname, got me thinking of how I see Logan with regard to the Logan/Scott relationship specifically. This was intended to be a reply, but it got away from me, so I thought I'd turn it into its own post.
This is going to get long and very incoherent. And possibly not all that flattering to Logan in parts. Sorry.
I don't know if I see Logan as quite so Freudian myself, though I think it's a fascinating analysis.
I think for me, there's an element of the Scott-Logan and Jean-Logan dynamics that start off interestingly separate. Maybe it's because, initially, Jean never really seemed to return Logan's feelings. But there wasn't as much of a sense of "triangle" back in the early Claremont issues for me.
Logan was attracted to Jean, went after her, was rebuffed, and kept going. He had moments with Scott, like when he was judging Scott for not grieving her enough in the Savage Lands, when she and Hank were presumed dead. But generally that seemed to be a separate thing.
Whereas with Scott, we had the sort of maverick vs. leader dynamic. Scott is younger, more uptight, less experienced (in a military capacity, anyway), less traditionally macho, and Logan clashed with the idea of taking his orders. But pretty quickly, they did fit into a sort of bickering respect - Logan threatening Hawkeye when the latter insulted Cyclops, going to Scott during the whole demerit thing in general.
They do fall pretty quick into that "I'll follow you to hell, bitching all the way" sort of dynamic. And most of that seems to develop without Jean present (she wasn't, after all, officially part of the team at first, then she was presumed dead, then she was actually dead.)
In the 90s, things get a bit murkier, because the love triangle heats up and becomes a little more reciprocal on Jean's part. But Jean and Scott had gone through all of their real emotional turmoil in X-Factor, when Logan wasn't around, so by the 90s, they were pretty solid. Then you get things mashed together a bit.
And also during the time apart, Logan's had his own shift from stab-happy wild man to that more noble drifter cowboy meets Kurosawa type. So we get a shifted dynamic, where Logan's attraction to Jean becomes a lot more overtly romantic, in a certain courtly way. We get a lot more emphasis on the "she makes me want to be a better person" element of their dynamic here too.
Meanwhile, the 90s also give us Scott at what's probably his most emotionally and morally stable place. He's past his trainwreck stage (and Logan didn't get to see most of that), and has settled into a confident upright leader.
So we essentially end up with a kind of Lancelot, Guinevere, Arthur thing. (Honestly, I've always thought Jean made the better King Arthur, but we're talking Logan's perspective. And honestly, I've always thought that Logan has a bit of an issue with toxic masculinity and overly-rigid gender roles.)
So while there's still the sparky bickering between Logan and Scott, for the most part, it's comfortable. Any attraction Logan feels gets sublimated into respect (kind of like his dynamic with Captain America. I tend to assume most people are at least a little in love with Steve Rogers, and Logan's no exception.).
But it all sort of melds together into Logan being romantically in love with Jean, sublimated attraction-into-respect for Scott, and then ultimately idolizing their relationship on a whole. Which has the awkward effect of putting Scott on a pedestal, because he's the man Jean chose over Logan. So of course, he must be a paragon of virtue.
(The fact that Scott's trainwreck tendencies are still there pops up occasionally, but generally goes unnoticed.)
But then we get Apocalypse - and a Scott stripped bare of his illusions. But still possessed of his moral code. Mostly. He's wounded, but still pretty forthright. Then we have the situation with Emma. And Jean's death. And that's when things get a lot...sparkier. The bickering starts getting a bit more heated again.
Honestly, they're probably the slashiest they've ever been during that period between Jean's death and the Schism. And Logan seems to have a weird sense of judgmental entitlement over Scott during this time. He still respects him though, but things are starting to fray with Utopia and X-Force, and everything crashes down in the Schism, when the last of Logan's illusions about Scott shatter.
I've said before, I think that their whole dynamic would have been a lot healthier if Logan had realized that Scott, beneath the facade, is a lot more like Laura Kinney than he'd ever been like Steve Rogers.
But he didn't figure that out and now he's heartbroken, angry, and can't sublimate the fact that he kind of wants to fuck him into that whole Captain America/Paragon of Virtue veneration anymore. Nope, dude, that stirring in your loins doesn't come from the fact that you're in the presence of one of the Truly Good Men. You just want to fuck that trainwreck.
And honestly, I think Hank has a bit of the same thing. But Hank/Scott is a whole separate essay topic. I think Hank and Logan kind of fed off each other at this time. So we get things like the Cyclops-dartboard. When we both know that's not the penetration they really want to do.
What? I was talking about claws? What did you think I was talking about?
(Okay, that too.)
I think the post Schism/pre AvX dynamic is fascinating adolescent on the part of Logan (and Hank). I can't help but maybe conflate this a bit with the fact that Logan only relatively recently regained the full memories of his life, while Hank has that whole arrested development child soldier thing that most of the O5 have deep down. And they both start acting a bit like the bitter dorks in high school, watching the Homecoming King and Queen.
Which is a little bizarre considering that Scott and Emma are holding Utopia together by the skin of their teeth and intentionally trying to present it as a lightning rod for anti-mutant sentiment in order to keep the school safe. But things aren't necessarily rational there.
But then we have AvX. And everything goes from hilariously adolescent to absolutely tragic.
Because no one makes it out of that mess okay or whole. And Logan, in particular, has to go full on aggressor, because if he stops and thinks about it, he might well realize that if any one person could be the cause of this mess: it could be him. HE's the one who went to the Avengers, after all. Scott's plan with the Phoenix was batshit, but it might have been resolved differently if the Avengers hadn't gone in there all OOC heavy handed, guns blazing.
Scott, meanwhile, has lost some of his Utopia edge, and found a new easily romanticized role as suffering martyr. We start to see events that might lead to a resolution: Kitty and the O5 switching sides, a lot of realizations from a lot of people that Scott isn't the villain he's playing on television, and so on. (There's also the O5 putting a human face on the man that Logan's convinced himself he hates. And a version of Jean that's completely horrified and disgusted by him...)
And then Logan dies, and his role's taken by a dude from a side comic with no connection to any of these characters of events. And no, I'm not bitter about Old Man Logan at all.
(Sure, he was fun in his OWN comic. But there's shit going on here and he's not a part of it!!!)
Then there's the fucked up weirdness of Scott's death, his unspoken terrible acts (that eventually amounted to destroying a cloud), and so on.
Once both characters have resurrected, we get an interesting return, almost, to that post Jean's death dynamic. They're again in a foxhole, desperate. Scott's relying pretty heavily on Logan at this time, even as they rebuild the dregs of the team for their last stand.
Then Rahne leaves, dies. Logan skips the funeral to go after her murderers. And then when he returns, covered in her murderers' blood, he and an angry Scott have it out and he storms off, with the unfair accusations all over again. (This time, it's more apparently that Wolverine's lashing out because of his own wounds, but it's not very pleasant to experience.) He does make up for it a bit by coming back for their last stand. Which is, maybe, a bit romantic in its own right.
And then...Jean and the original team reappear and Jean immediately shoves her tongue down Scott's throat while Logan and Emma both look a little bitter.
And then we have Krakoa, and I know I've bitched about not seeing the foundation of the Throuple. But in a weird way, it does kind of work for me. The euphoria of their new sanctuary, the realization that death is no longer a thing, the return of lost loved ones (like Alex, who'd died recently in Rosenberg's run), and so on - it made a place, and a moment, where the sublimation can just be the truth.
Scott and Jean are Scott and Jean. They have their family again. Logan is welcomed into the family as occasional partner. Nate's "Uncle Logan". He gets to come on family vacations.
Logan still gets to be Logan, though, and do his own thing. As much of a romantic as he is, I'm not sure I buy him ever actually settling down to domesticity. But this works out fairly well.
There are still some hints of tension though. I like bringing up the "Scott in a Speedo" scene, not just for the expression of attraction - I've seen it dismissed as a "joke", but I still don't see how that works as a joke either of them would tell - but also for the actual scene.
In it, we see Scott, conflicted over the Crucible and his mixed feelings about the more...religious elements of Krakoan society, looking for something from Logan - maybe reassurance, maybe just commiseration? That the latter isn't willing or able to give him. "Go find a priest." He says.
Everyone's going to have their own interpretation, but my read on it, in the context of their complicated relationship, is that Logan's happy to enjoy the idyllic interlude that Krakoa's given them, but he doesn't want to go deeper. He doesn't want to talk about their underlying issues or be the support that Scott needs at this time. It's an emotional commitment that he's not ready to make.
In his own comic (or possibly X-Force, they blur together for me), Logan expresses dislike regarding Krakoa, feeling like it's fostering a false sense of safety and security.
I feel like that might be why Logan is the way he is in this scene. They haven't resolved their issues, and where Scott's overture might indicate that he'd like to, Logan isn't open to that now.
And I think that's the Watsonian reason that we don't see very much with these two beyond a couple of Pride issue panels of the trio having a good time together.
I don't think the Throuple really lasts that much beyond this either. We have that funny bit where Teen Nate has called in a favor to have Logan comfort his parents after his departure. We have a few Jean/Logan moments in X-Force, but they're pretty shallow, all things considered. Some light making out. A single scene of sex in a hot tub.
Beyond that, we have that bit where she's trying to help him telepathically in X Lives of Wolverine, but she'd have done that for him even if they weren't banging.
And then, nothing. Scott and Jean are doing fine in the X-Men (eventual Brood argument notwithstanding), Logan is doing fine in his own book. But the Throuple seems...done.
Oh, maybe that bit in AXE where Jean is having issues for failing her test and Logan's all "anyone who'd fail you and pass me..." bit of reassurance. But again, that's the sort of thing he'd have said even if they weren't fucking. (I also wish he were able to comfort her without making it all about HIS issues, but that's a separate essay!)
There are a few parts that annoyed the shit out of me though. In both X Lives of Wolverine and later toward the end of his own comic, Logan lists Xavier and Jean as members of his found family. Saying shit like how their broken edges come together to make a more profound whole.
Scott, who is Xavier's son, Jean's husband, and the man whose house Logan STILL LIVES IN, doesn't get a mention.
(Doylistically, I theorize that maybe Marvel wanted to downplay the Throuple implications already. But I don't know.)
Nor does Storm, Kurt, Kitty, Jubilee, or a lot of other people who'd fit into that category too, including his actual children, mind you. But this isn't an essay about them.
And then there's Fall of X/Fall of the House of X. We do know at one point, Logan was involved in a rescue mission for Scott which fell through because Xavier called Rasputin away to go help him kill a thirteen year old.
Then there's nothing but a mostly civil exchange in X-Men #1, where Logan decides to go off on his own to run with wolves after he's rescued, and then that snide comment in Uncanny.
Scott's not really mentioned Logan either, except maybe that bitter little "everyone likes HIM" as a response to Magneto's amazing accusation of "logan behavior".
So...I don't really know how I see their relationship dynamic now. I was hoping for some interaction in Raid on Graymalkin, but the closest we got was Logan saying to attack if Scott touched his temple.
(Doylistically, that may be all we get. If Marvel thinks interaction might fuel the Throuple implications, we may not get anything else for a long time, which sucks.)
Watsonianly, I think maybe it's as simple as the idyllic Krakoan interlude being over. Jean's in space and unable to smooth things over. (Also, I'm not actually sure how I think Logan will take the whole Phoenix side of Jean's personality. They'd been considered two separate entities by the time the triangle really started up...). And whatever attraction that Scott and Logan have for each other is back to being sublimated in unnecessary antagonism and bitterness.
It's a shame, really.
(I do think if the Throuple does end up rekindling, Logan shouldn't get to join back up until he actually apologizes though. Hmph.)
#scott summers#cyclops#logan behavior#I'm not sure if this counts as a logan critical post or not but we'll play it safe

Afterglow | Nam-gyu / American!Reader
You're reading part four
Story Summary: Nam-gyu gets a new job and finds himself falling for the girl behind the deli counter.
Words: 1.9k
Tags/Warnings: Nam-gyu and Thanos have PTSD, canon divergence, Thanos lives, heavy angst, fighting, references to past substance abuse, slight suicidal ideation
A/N: Oh boy oh boy, now this is a chapter I cooked up with the devious side of my brain.
This is a particularly heavy chapter, lots of angst, but in the next one I'll make up for it I promise (maybe ;))
Also I'd like to thank you guys again for the continued love on the Afterglow series. I wasn't expecting to do this many chapters, but I love them.......
MASTERLIST | Mini playlist to fit the chapter
October thirty-first, Halloween, one of the most anticipated holidays for kids and adults alike. You couldnât help but feel a little giddy at the idea of being able to celebrate with Nam-gyu. It made you feel like a kid all over again, happily trying to plan out costume ideas, helping decorate his apartment a little bit. You were trying hard not to go overboard with your excitement.Â
Since Halloween wasnât as popular in South Korea as it was in the United States, you wanted to make sure that you could give both him and Su-bong an authentic experience. Candy, costumes, make-up, scary movies. Even parties, which you were never fully privy to in the past, but willed yourself to make an exception this time around.Â
You jiggled your spare key a little in the lock of Nam-gyu and Su-bong's apartment, wiping your feet on the welcome mat outside before removing your shoes. Your umbrella was still dripping on the concrete just outside the door, you silently hoped to yourself that nobody would take it while you were inside.Â
Su-bong was sitting on the couch twirling a finger through his fresh hot pink hair, fingertips still stained in the dye. He was watching one of his many guilty pleasure shows at a low volume. His brows were knit together in what seemed to be concentration, and something a little more.Â
âHey, Su-bong.â You greeted with a smile, setting down a few of the things you had brought for tonight.Â
His head snapped over to look at you, âOh hey, didnât hear you come in.â His own smile faltered a little, it was distant, the usual happy spark in his eyes replaced with something a lot more unrecognizable.Â
âI think Nam-gyuâs still asleep.â He answered your unspoken question flatly. His usual teasing and friendly demeanor shut away.Â
StrangeâŠ
All you could do was nod. Your eyes stayed on him for a beat longer than usual before you made your way down the short hallway to your boyfriendâs room.
You carefully grasped the knob to his door and opened it slowly, not wanting to accidentally wake him up. There was a faint smell of cigarette smoke that lingered in the air. His room was almost pitch black if it wasnât for the little bit of light let in by the open door.Â
Right on the bed was the outline of your boyfriend underneath the covers. His weighted blanket was pulled tight around his shoulder as he laid on his side, breaths coming out in slow quiet snores.Â
Worry tugged at your heart, it was four in the afternoon, usually he never slept this long.Â
You passed the threshold of his doorway, closing the door quietly behind you. A part of you didnât want to disturb him, deep in your stomach you know you should just leave him be. But you just couldnât, not with the thorny feeling of curiosity jabbing itself into your side.
âNam-gyu.â You whispered softly, a gentle hand settling itself on his covered shoulder. âHoney itâs really late, you should probably wake up.âÂ
He woke up with a startled gasp, his body going completely rigid underneath his sheets. You could hear his quickened breaths against his pillow, a tell-tale sign you recognized all too quickly. You were quick to press the switch to the lamp on his nightstand, his room being cast in a soft yellow light.Â
There in the bed lay your boyfriend, a trembling man under a heap of blankets. He glanced over his shoulder with worried eyes, tears already brimming. Almost a year with him and you had never seen him so utterly terrified.Â
Your name fell from his wobbly lips, trapped within a choked sob, he looked like a scared child seeking comfort.Â
You wasted no time making your way to your usual spot on the bed, sliding underneath the heavy sheets and bringing him into your chest.
The sobs he released into your shirt were raw with emotion, as if they were being torn from his body unwillingly. You didnât care that his tears and snot were seeping through the fabric and onto your chest.Â
He was shaking like a leaf in your arms, hiccuping sobs forcing his fingers to grip tighter around the back of your shirt.Â
~~~
Su-bong clenched his jaw at the sound of Nam-gyuâs sobs. A part of him wanted to storm into his friends room and tell you to leave, that he would handle things himself. But he couldnât⊠He wouldnât do that to either of you.Â
You were the closest thing to normalcy Nam-gyu has had in his life since the games. Su-bong knew that more than anyone ever would.Â
He watched for two years as his friend dragged his body through life pathetically. Picking at his arms every now and then as the itch, the urge, that unmatchable craving started to eat at him as he was consumed by his ever present thoughts.Â
And once you came along, the dust finally seemed to settle. It was like watching his friend be built back into the man he met, while he wasnât as selfish or as snide as he used to be, he finally found his smile again. His laugh no longer sounded forced.
He was finally happy.Â
Su-bong would be lying to himself if he said that you being around was a comfort for him too. After the things both Nam-gyu and him did back in South Korea, they both needed that reminder that innocent minds such as yours were to be cherished. Those genuine smiles and laughs, clueless to the true horrors in the world.Â
Nam-gyu was always so distant around the anniversary of the games. Shut off from the world, sleeping away the day just so he didnât slip back into old habits. He always looked so hollow when he would finally show his face, dark bags under his puffy eyes, hair a mess, wearing the same exact clothes that he had been wearing four days before.Â
A sigh fell from Su-bongâs lips as he noticed the cries of his friend finally started to quiet down, occasional choked sobs drifting through the thin walls.Â
Su-bong knew that if you were going to continue being in a relationship with Nam-gyu, you had to at least be given a half truth eventually.Â
Given a glimpse of the extent of Nam-gyuâs gruesome, tormenting, past.Â
~~~
Nam-gyu felt so pathetic. His eyelids clenched so tight he was almost scared his eyes would pop in their sockets. He tried his best to will his tears away, the sobs subsiding into pitiful whimpers and sniffles.Â
âIâm sorry⊠Fuck⊠I-â He was quick to push himself away from you, albeit a little harsher than he intended. Sitting up quickly and swinging his legs over the side of the bed. âIâŠâÂ
He couldnât even form a coherent sentence, his mind twisting and spinning so rapidly. Nam-gyu brought his hands up to his face, dragging his blunt nails along the skin of his raw cheeks. He hoped that the brief bite of pain would bring him some sort of relief.Â
God his fucking hands⊠If only they could stop shaking for just a second.Â
Nam-gyu could feel your eyes boring into his back. He couldnât bring himself to look over his shoulder at you. Your sweet, caring, beautiful face. It made his gut twist in a sickening way when a sudden gory image flashed in his head, an image of you in the games, dying in front of him.Â
âI need to go.â He suddenly breathed out, rushing towards the door before you could even think to reach out for him.Â
The world felt like it was spinning around him as he rushed to grab his jacket, slipping on one shoe at a time.
His mind was on one thing and one thing only.Â
âWhere the fuck do you think youâre going Nam-gyu?â Su-bong hissed, cutting through his friendâs tunnel vision.
It wasnât an actual question, Su-bong knew exactly what Nam-gyu was planning to do. To search for that glorious hit that could make him forget everything that tormented his fragile mind.
âDude⊠You canât do this shit. Not today.âÂ
He snatched the keys from his trembling friendâs other hand, throwing them all the way into the kitchen, completely out of reach.Â
âSu-bongâŠâ Nam-gyu whispered his friend's name in warning, eyes glued to the wooden floor of their living room.Â
âYour fucking girl is here bro⊠Do not do this shit.â An accusatory finger was jabbed lightly into Nam-gyuâs chest, âYou can shut me out all you fucking want, but not her.âÂ
A tornado of emotions swirled recklessly inside of Nam-gyu. Right now all he wanted to do was forget, to wash all of his guilt away with one simple hit. Thatâs all he wanted. His heart was racing so fast in his chest, and his ears were ringing so loud he could barely concentrate anymore.Â
âSit down and smoke some weed or some shit, but we both swore that other shit off years ago, together. You canât go sliding back on me now.âÂ
Nam-gyuâs hands tightened at his sides, body flushed.
Their eyes, their faces, everything was burned so brightly behind his eyelids.Â
âI canât do this anymore!â He finally shouted, making Su-bong flinch a little, âIâm so fucking tired! I just- I canât⊠FUCK!âÂ
~~~
There was the sound of shattering glass in the hallway, so sharp and loud as you stared at Nam-gyuâs door. Still in shock from his sudden departure, seemingly running away from his deep seated emotions.
You threw back the covers hastily, ripping open his door and finding both boys fighting, yelling at each other in a way you had never seen them before.Â
A picture frame was lying broken on the floor next to the front door, glass spread throughout the living room floor. Su-bongâs foot came dangerously close to one of the shards as Nam-gyu continued to jab his finger into his friendâs chest.Â
âIt has been so fucking easy for you! You donât even act like it fucks with your head like it does mine!â Nam-gyu screamed at him, angry tears running down his cheeks.Â
Su-bong couldnât help but scoff, pushing against your boyfriendâs shoulder to force him to back up, âYou donât think itâs been hard on me?! Why do you think I go out so often?!â He pushed again, âI canât stand being here by myself! I canât get that shit out of my head! So I drown it out by going to clubs and bars!â Another push, âDonât you think I wanna go out and get so fucked up out of my mind, do something Iâll really fucking regret?!âÂ
This time it was Nam-gyu who pushed him back, much harder than Su-bong had done to him, âDonât fucking touch me again.â His voice was cold, bordering emotionless if it wasnât for the slight tremble in his words.Â
It broke your heart to see him like this. There was so much pain built up inside of him, all you wanted to do was grab his hand and usher him back into his bedroom. Hold him until he calmed down again.
But you knew that wouldn't be possible, not with how fired up he was now. You felt hopeless, unsure how you should act under situations like this.
You had been shaken out of your thoughts finally when Nam-gyu's hand grasped the doorknob firmly, "I'm going outside for a smoke. I gotta cool off." His gaze barely flickered past your shoes when he glanced towards the hallway. "I'll be back in a bit."
This is just my personal opinion and it isn't a fully developed but I'll basically try to verbalize one of the possible reasons why Athena is unnecessarily demonized, namely that she doesnât fit into a "dark aesthetic".
A lot of people - typically young adults and teenagers - usually develop a fascination for a macabre, gloomy, eerie and overall dark aesthetic. This aesthetic is also linked into the awareness of morality, a sense of empowerement and a desire of being unique and different from others.
The main problem is that many people end up confusing the idea of a morally grey, complex character with an aesthetically dark one, and have the impression that if a character has sonething "dark" - wheter this has to do with death, monstruosity, darkness etc. - then it's automatically a complex and interesting one. That character usually turns out to be either labeled as "misunderstood", or have their flaws and wrong deeds erased or twisted.
See how so many people are obssessed with Hades and Persephone purely because of aesthetics, despite the fact that they barely appear in any myths and the major one is literally focusing on a forced marriage and an abduction. Or how Medusa becomes the misunderstood victim in the Media and a lot of headcanons are spread as facts about her despite the fact that even Ovid didn't write them, so that she could be perceived as unique and/or a complete girlboss. Underworld deities in general receive this type of treatment.
Athena, on the other hand, doesnât fit into this type of aesthetic, or at least not into a classical one. Nor do Demeter, Hera, Perseus or Hephaestus. Which might be part of the reason why they receive unnecessary hate.
P.S: I'm talking here as someone who wears black all the time, is into goth literature and watches horror and disturbing movies. Therefore I have all the right to criticize my own kind.
I agree yeah, thereâs this idea that figures like Hera and Athena âuphold the status quo and patriarchyâ even tho they are the ones who cause or at least attempt to cause change constantly. They are the ones that try to overthrow Zeus, they are the ones who stand up against him the most or in Athenaâs case, step up as a parental figure to his children since heâs rarely a present parent. Hera and Athena are some of the most popular and well known women in myth so itâs unsurprising that they receive a lot of hate from ppl who wanna be contrarian and different.
Hades is never seen as ever directly opposing Zeus, in fact they seem to get along just fine considering the fact that Zeus thought Hades would be a good husband to his daughter (aside from in Claudianâs Rape of Proserpina in which he threatened Zeus to get him a wife which Zeus does), but bc he has a dark aesthetic and has been turned into a shadow daddy by retellings, heâs seen as hating Zeus, rebelling against Zeus, hell even being against him for his violence against women which is RICH coming from Hades of all ppl.
That same mentality is why ppl think Ares is a mamaâs boy who would do anything to protect his mom even if he has to confront Zeus when thatâs literally Hephaestusâs thing! Hephaestus was the one to defend Hera from Zeus not Ares.
They want the aesthetic of âsticking it up to the manâ but not actually sticking it up to the man. Medusa didnât kill abusers to protect women, Perseus did, he was the one who chose to kill Polydectes, Proetus, Phineus and their goons not Medusa.
2025 Book Review #3 â Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis
My mother recently retired and cleared out my childhood home, part of which involved throwing out a lot of books. So I have come into possession of a lot of weird literature no one remembers ever actually buying, which is honestly pretty exciting. This was one of them, a tragic bit of literary modern fantasy about the titular canines being uplifted to human intelligence and it ending in general quite badly for them. Not at all light reading, but interesting and very affecting at points.
The plot concerns a wager between Hermes and Apollo, regarding whether a humanâs intelligence is a blessing or a curse. To settle the matter, they gift all the dogs that happen to have been left in a random Toronto vet clinic overnight the power of human thought, and bet two years of servitude to the other on whether any of them will die happy. With occasional divine interludes, the story mostly then follows the dogs â first as a pack, and then tracing each life separately with occasional unhappy reunions â from uplift to death.
This is an incredibly high concept sort of book â coming in expecting anything like traditional urban fantasy or contemporary litfic and you will be deeply confused. It is literature in a sense, I suppose â the prose itself isnât particularly adorned or eye-catching, but it is very concerned with interiority and subjective experience, and in any case there are fifteen different poems scattered throughout the book. But far more than that, itâs philosophical fiction â which is to say, very explicitly theme-first and contemplative of the Big Idea its turning around, with the actual story being basically in service to that.
That big idea if ostensibly about whether intelligence and self-reflection are a blessing or a curse, but itâs at least as much about the degree to which its possible to live a happy life in a world full of misery and where nothing but luck keeps everything you love from being taken from you in an instant. Few of the dogs live happily â they kill each other, they make themselves miserable attempting to regain the thoughtless purity of their prior existence, they become entrapped in toxic hierarchies of status and dominance. And on the other they starve, theyâre hit by cars, they eat poison, theyâre abused and neglected by the humans they relied upon. It is a book with a very tragic sensibility, all in all â even the dogs with the good luck and character to find happiness always live at the risk of some divine fit of pique. In this the use of the Greek Gods as characters fit very well â Apollo taking one of the dogâs sight and hearing in annoyance with him seems entirely of a piece with how the myths often go.
As for solutions â the bookâs later parts focus a great deal on two dogs who have, more or less, good lives. It is, on the whole, very positive about love (at least, a specific kind â affection devotion and most importantly understanding between equals) - but equally concerned with how ruinous losing someone whose thread of life is intertwined so tightly with yours can be. It clearly thinks thereâs something a bit noble and sacred to living as a monument to grief, but equally doesnât think doing so can really be called a good life. Instead â and this is almost too predictable, simply because itâs written by the kind of person who writes elaborate philosophical fiction â the book presents a life dedicated to poetry and art, thought and self-reflection, to beauty however fleeting it is to be the best suited to appreciating life in all its miseries. It is, as I said, quite philosophical about it.
The book also accidentally fulfills any Canadian Content obligations I had for the year. Itâs a book set in and deeply in love with the geography and character of Toronto (if often a jaundiced and teasing sort of love). Honestly it talks about the city in a way I usually only see fiction discuss New York or parts of California.
As an exploration of actual canine psychology, it varies between interesting and tiresome. I rather wish any of the female dogs had survived longer or gotten more focus, just for a bit of variety on all the oft-offered opinions about mounting and heat. The fifteen poems included in the book all being the result of a project to write poetry that listening to would have an affect for humans and dogs is, at least, a very cute bit of trivia.
But yeah, interesting piece of fiction. Read if you like these sort of meditations and can take lots of unhappy and dead dogs in your stories.
(marriage of state) you've mentioned a couple times that the Rivendell siblings are pretty fucked up, but i'm not sure if they're like, an unusual amount of fucked up for their peer group. so on a scale of 1 to 10, where would you place all of the marriage of state rulers? are there any particular standouts we should know about, besides our beloved Scott and Xornoth?
I waited to answer this because I was going to draw a diagram but apparently that's just not going to happen right now so we'll just use our words.
Not Actually Doing Too Badly, Weirdly Enough:
Pearl. We love an unbothered queen. She is the sanest of the whole lot which is. Saying something. The desire to punch things in the face is unrelated to any sort of trauma its just her idea of a good time.
By the time of the main arc, Lizzie also fits here. She's dealt with most of her issues already. She knows who she is and she is comfortable with it. (Almost no one else is but that's not her problem)
Joel is vibing. An unbothered king. Living his best life, happily married. Definitely Unhinged but like, weirdly healthy about it.
Would Be Doing Fine If Not For Plot:
Shrub Berry was having a very normal time as a very normal gnome up until they very suddenly weren't so like, there is technically some fucked up-ness but its very recent and hasn't settled in yet. There is hope.
Jimmy has 99 problems and most of them are named fWhip and Mythical Sausage. A little insecure but like, he's got a supportive family and is doing alright.
There Is Something Wrong With You But Its Hard To Tell If It Has A Specific Root Cause Or If You Are Just Like That TM/Cumulative Effects of Your Environment:
Joey was raised in a temple under threat of assassination and also all kinds of magical things with strong potential to kill him but like, other than that he's doing alright he's just. Him.
Believe it or not the only thing Wrong with Mythical J Sausage is that he was raised in a family where power-hungry imperialism is the norm. Its mitigated somewhat by being close with Pearl especially but also like. He had loving supportive parents they just also taught him that Mythland is superior and the peak of civilization.
fWhip also falls into this category. He also had a good supportive, loving family but is also very undeniably one half-step in the wrong direction away from going full supervillain. Maybe its the redstone poisoning, maybe its being pushed into a position of leadership at too young an age with absolutely no preparation or even real warning.
Very Clearly Has Something Wrong With Them but Is Pretending So Hard to be Normal:
The Rivendell Siblings think they are doing so good at being normal. Especially Scott. Scott things he is The Most Normal. Everyone else is Very Very Concerned. Sucky parents, sucky situation what with the whole gods and possessions and prophecies thing. Religious Trauma personified x2
The only person who thinks they are More Normal than the Rivendell siblings is Gem. She is pretending so hard to be normal she's convinced herself of it. Beneath her traditional Wizard Character Faults (arrogance, tunnel vision) are some very deep-seated abandonment issues and self-loathing and identity issues.
Seems Very Normal Until You Realize Holy Shit You Are So Fucked Up Please Get Help:
Katherine Elizabeth was raised similarly to Sausage except her mother was not loving or supportive and instead of attempting to shield her from the uglier side of politics and power plays actively exposed her to them and trained her to commit them. The mortals that live around the Overgrown borders were very very lucky that Katherine decided early on that she likes mortals. Just like she likes sheep!
Pixlriffs. Just. Pixlriffs.
#ask and it shall be answered#buttercupbonfire#marriage of state au#mos: asks#mos: ensemble#rain rambles#thank you so much for the ask!#hope you enjoy!
7. When he and Bucky start falling into their big fight when they're 30, Gale starts rebelling against what he thinks Bucky wants from him (to act like a dad), so he gets a little wild. He grows facial hair, loses weight and dresses more roughly too. Heâs anything but soft during this period. Bucky would find it hot if he didnât know what's causing it.
Need more on this Gale so badly đ„”
Gale is deeply hurt by what he perceives as Bucky betraying him. He has been clear about not wanting children since high school. They didnât even discuss it seriously because it was so evident that they wouldnât have any - except, maybe it wasnât as evident as he thought it was.
There were small signs here and there that Bucky might actually want kids but whenever they brushed upon the question, Bucky reassured Gale that they would do whatever Gale wanted. The issue didnât seem important to Bucky. But as Bucky's 30th birthday approached, the number made him reflect on his life more seriously than ever before. And years of Gale helping him build boundaries paid off - and backfired - because Bucky felt confident enough in his needs to finally voice that maybe he did want children.
Bucky absolutely didnât mean it as an ultimatum or to pressure Gale, but he wanted a serious discussion where the why's are addressed, not something brushed off as "come on, John, you know I'm not cut out for this, let's talk about something else". But maybe his delivery wasnât right, maybe nothing would have been right - his insistence to discuss the question hit Gale at the deepest scars on his heart.
This is when Galeâs reactive behaviour starts. He and Bucky stop the conversation the day it breaks out but it's in no way resolved and they both know it. As a nonverbal expression of just how badly suited he is to be a father, Gale begins to lean into those traits of his that donât fit a traditional fatherly image.
He learnt how to ride a motorbike back in high school from Neil and he has his own bike since his mid-twenties. During this period, he starts using it excessively. Whenever he feels cornered or smothered by Bucky, he pushes Bucky away and goes away to ride his bike. He wears biker clothes a lot and refuses to wear his softest clothes, like some of his sweaters and the scarves he got from Bucky.
He's belligerent with Bucky, and things he would usually be only mildly irritated by now make him livid. Itâs the effect of all the unresolved tension between him and Bucky.
They fight on and off, they get petty with each other, and their interactions get less understanding and nastier because of the hurt accumulating. Gale and Curt stop talking because Gale feels like Curt is on Buckyâs side.
Gale's entire being screams a big, loud NO during these few months, and he never stops to address why. All he feels is "I canât, I canât".
So, technically, Bucky does notice how insanely hot Gale is when he's a little rougher, and they do have some amazing sex in their better moments during this time, but Bucky feels more anger, concern and sadness at this acting out than desire.
After an uncomfortable Thanksgiving back in Milwaukee with Bucky's family, they have one huge, nasty fight, after which Bucky sleeps in the guest room and they both have to face the idea that this may lead to divorce.
Related to this, I feel this mentality is the cause of a lot of the phenomenon of "villain who is fighting for a sympathetic cause and does unrelated evil things that seem contrived to fit them in their role" - a lot of people talk about this in conspiracy-theory terms about it being about discrediting left-wing ideas of social change, and while that might be part of it I think a lot of it comes down to the writing process being "I have my heroes, now I have to have a villain to challenge them. Hmm I want an interesting subversive villain so let's make them have a sympathetic goal. Oh wait now their morality doesn't match the role of villain I've already predetermined for them that is necessary for the story, now I have to add a quick fix patch for that even if it doesn't logically cohere". When it would be better to write the process as "Hmm, I want something to challenge my main characters (not heroes). What will their motivations be for doing that?" And then if you decide the motivation is something sympathetic and noble, you can follow that motivation and the character you created to its natural conclusion and let the character opposing the main characters be as good or sympathetic or at least morally ambiguous and not fitting in a neat villain role as follows from that (and your main characters as unsympathetic as follows from opposing them), without having to force a square peg into a round hole because you already determined these are heroes and villains. And if you decide you really want to write a bad person who opposes your main characters, then you can just write a bad person. Or course a well-made character who has sympathetic motivations but does cruel things for them can still work, I'm talking about ones where the cruel actions seemed forced and out of character just to fit them into the role. Basically determine the character's morality based on the motivations and actions you have assigned them, rather than having predetermined that this character is a villain before knowing anything else about them, so that if they evolve in a different way you are still stuck narratively framing them as a villain, if a sympathetic one, and then there is either a dissonance in the framing or you remove the dissonance in a contrived way.
Also related is that the belief that you need a sentient villain, with man vs. nature, "disaster movies" or anything involving coming into conflict with something that isn't a person being seen as lowbrow, to the point where when someone wants to make a story about the characters facing something like a force of nature, a disease or a hurricane or something, it seems more common to make them fight a character who is a metaphor for those things rather than those things themselves, because according to writing advice you need a villain! And character-as-metaphor often doesn't work because the villain you have created acts in ways that aren't logical for a human/sapient being and feel like plot contrivances, but would work perfectly well if the story was about, say, fighting a pandemic.
hey! i saw your post about discarding the idea of heroes and villains and i found it really thought-provoking. i just wanted to ask how you would separate the idea of 'good and bad people' and 'heroes and villains', because i feel like the idea of writing a character as 'good person' or 'bad person' will inevitably result in them being cast as hero and villain, respectively. thanks!
I'm glad that you found it interesting!
As for your question, you can certainly write good and bad people without making them heroes or villains, because those are narrative roles. You can write a good person without them being the hero or even a hero. You can write a bad person without them being a villain.
What good and bad means is for a discussion (perhaps the biggest discussion possible) I won't get into. What I'm talking about is the roles of characters in a story.
Not every story needs to have a villain. I have even found writing advice that says that villains are "necessary" to "get the plot moving", and no, you don't need to have them at all. You also don't need to have a hero, either someone who does great deeds (the classical definition) or someone who does good and stands against evil. You don't need to have even an anti-hero. You can write about people, their ideals, actions, beliefs, but you don't necessarily need to categorize them as "heroes" and "villains". You can tell the story you want to tell, an interesting one, without even appealing to that once.
I think the more modern conceptions of "heroes" vs "villains" reduce them to almost sports teams, and then you get the depth of I don't know, My Hero Academia or Marvel where you got literal Leagues of Villains. Those are extreme examples, but you get what I mean, because people talk about supposedly more serious media with the same tones.
You don't have to label your characters, explicitly or implicitly, as "the bad guys" or "the good guys". You don't need to even think about that. You can write about interesting people in extraordinary circumstances, or completely ordinary ones. You can write stories where the morality of the characters is secondary to other themes. You can describe worlds like a fictional atlas or encyclopedia without even needing characters at all! And yes, you can even write a story of good people defeating the actions of bad people without any of them being heroes or villains.
Every day I am haunted by the fact JJK could be amazing but it will be just idk Bleach or something
#I've seen a lot of people complaining about the fact that it's impossible to fit the ending of every unfinished arc#in the five chapters that remain for the manga to end for good#And it all just... legitimises my fear and apprehension haha#And it's a pity! It's a pity! The dynamics were so good! And yet nothing! Sukuna was so good! And yet nothing!#It was so nice how he seemed to play with the idea of transcending human categories and values but even the values of curses so to speak#Well beyond everything. Well beyond positive/creative nihilism even! He was not like Mahito#I wonder if Mahito is more a negative nihilism with a funny edge or a positive nihilism. For now it seems positive#with how he seems to have said something like 'nothing matters so we can do whatever we want and create what matters'#But Sukuna transcends all that! It could have been interesting to see how that developed in a way that wasn't just childish edginess#But no. And then there's all the idea of curses and sorcerers not being all that different#and so not really entirely possible to say one side is good and the other bad#There was the idea of the very source of powers with fear and love playing a role here in such a juicy way#And then there's the entire thing happening with Gojo as a concept and the very concepts he plays with which I could eat like an apple#but also I would let those very concepts eat at my heart as a worm inside an apple#Full of holes and rotting inside out and yet delighting at the sweetness#It could all be so good! And yet! Most of the manga is a few sketched dynamics and concepts and a very long fight with Sukuna#promising half finished arcs#WHY it could have been so good. And I don't think criticism is a matter of 'fans being spoiled! Go write your story!' or something#It's not a matter of things not going as fans would want them to be. It's a matter of not writing well#or cohesively things established by the author themselves. And I think that's a fair criticism#If we are to take manga as an artâ which I wholeheartedly supportâ#then we can subject mangas to artistic or literary or whatever you want to call it analysis. There are works that are better constructed#than othersâ and there are works that have good ideas but poor execution. And it's always a pity#In the case of JJK it's truly breaking my heart and the comments I see around about these five last chapters are not helping xD#God it could be so good. So good. And I'm not talking about in specific to meâ which yes that too given the topicsâ#but just so good in general. It could be so good. It could have been so good#And yet it's starting to look more and more like any other shonen. It truly breaks my heart haha#I talk too much#Jujutsu Kaisen#I used Bleach because I think that's one of the mangas that has been the most a let down to the friends I have who like shonen
with my phantom hourglass replay, there are two things i noticed;
a possible theme you could glean from the game is action vs inaction, and i think it's especially prevalent before you even leave mercay the first time, with oshus frequently urging link to not go after the ghost ship, then to just wait until the broken bridge is fixed, and seems reluctant at every turn while link and ciela are more than eager to go and do something about this problem, and the people of mercay in general talking about things and their problems but never seeming to act on their fears or desires, as well as the mention that due to the ghost ship, very very few people are still sailing around, while linebeck is one of the only people we see in the game actively going after the ghost ship and still sailing around. i might make a longer post just talking more about the action vs inaction in phantom hourglass but i just noticed it a bit and thought it was a bit of an interesting sort of theme you could find in the game.
linebeck moves so fucking much. i think he moves more than any npc in the rest of the game. not just in his intro cutscene where he is very animated, just in how much he moves when just standing in his little idle post, it's damn near distracting when the camera is focused on him, he moves a lot. i don't think i've really acknowledged how much he moves, and it really gives the impression that he's antsy or eager to get going, both of which fit him pretty well with how he acts.
#phantom hourglass#linebeck#loz#legend of zelda#salty talks#imo the action vs inaction thing feels esp interesting to me when looking at oshus specifically. he and his world are in grave danger#and he knows it and he actively does nothing and even seems reluctant to let ciela and link go ahead and do something.#of course he comes around on it but it's very interesting. has he given up at that point? thats what it suggests to me#that hes like. joined the people of mercay in just lying down and waiting for other people to fix their problems or just. not do anything#otherwise on mercay you have that old guy in the bar who spends the whole game not leaving bc he doesnt want to face his wife#and she never goes to the bar to actually look for him and just talks about it if anything#the guy with the blue tunic talks a lot about linebeck and his ship and almost gives the impression that he really wants to talk to him#but yknow. doesnt. theres the women that tells you about docks being shut down and how linebeck is the only person who's showed up#the woman you see at the broken bridge who's just like oh well! time to wait til someone fixes it.#even the guy fixing the bridge iirc is like well fuck i gotta do it or else oshus is going to bitch at me abt it#everyone seems reluctant to act which makes for an interesting way in how our main crew stands out#it is less so oh theyve been chosen specifically for this its moreso they're the ones who are fucking doing something about this#for their own various reasons some of which are more selfish but theyre still doing something#will likely have more stuff to say when im done but ofc we have other characters in the game who have to do with this#anyways. linebeck is so animated all of the fucking time it's great i dont think theres any other character that moves as much as him#when he's just standing around to talking to link it's great. he's so ready to get going.#it works with him being an anxious mess and also with like. oh he's probably understimulated. you know he's got a nasty case of wanderlust#i can put it with the idea that he's understimulated and afraid to stim in public so he's just constantly moving#he probably drums his fingers on tables bounces his leg when sitting paces around switches the way he sits or lays down often#tbh this kinda fits in with him being one of the main characters who takes action moreso than a lot of other characters#his arc culminates in him taking action he's going after the ghost ship he's moving around the world the only issue is that one of the#actions he takes is running away from his problems literally n metaphorically (tho idk if facing the jolene problem is a good idea for him)
Helloooo I saw greek and decided to dive in to see if I could dig up any other juicy details hehehe <3
So setting aside the α- for a moment, because the λÏÏÏα seems more relevant. Also I just want to examine what exactly weâre negating with that a-.
Lussa (alternative spelling of lyssa, Ï
can often be transliterated as u or y, Iâm just using the u version because habit) does mean madness or rage, but since words never translate exactly across languages examining the context theyâre used in can help you get a better idea of the specific nuances of how the word can be used. In homeric contexts (the Iliad), itâs used pretty much exclusively to mean a martial sort of rage or frenzy, still with that undertone of madness but used to describe warriors fighting aggressively. (Important sidenote: this is not the same word used to describe Achillesâ wrath in the opening of the poem, thatâs menin ΌηΜÎčÎœ.)
This isâŠvery Sephiroth. Yeahhh. I think itâs safe to say that if the Nibelheim Incident was a Greek epic, they would have used the word lussa to describe what he was doing.
Also, a few of the other possible translations the dictionary I was using suggests (in specific contexts, see below) include fanaticism and raging love. Seph obsessing over Jenova? Is that you?
But wait, thereâs more! Because this is Greek, of course thereâs a personified version of Lussa as a goddess (!! goddess feminine not masculine! fits the theming for sure)! And the story sheâs mainly involved in is alsoâŠvery Sephiroth. Enter Euripidesâ Herakles (the greek way to spell it, Hercules is actually the romanized way, fun fact).
Starting off strong, Lussa introduces herself as the progeny of Night and the Sky, notably not of Gaia (the Earth). Not beating the Jenova allegations here. She is the one who (is sent unwillingly by Hera to) inspire this sort of martial madness into Heracles, causing him to suddenly slaughter a whole bunch of innocents (his entire family). Also, notably, while the chorus is describing Heraclesâ maddened rage, they use a lot of snake imagery. Yknow. Like Sephâs snake eyes. Rip Nibelheim I mean Heraclesâ family. Also interesting to note that Hera is so against Heracles because of his birthright (ie that he is a son of Zeus out of wedlock)âdoomed because of your parentage king? Hm sounds familiar
Yeah insane Sephiroth is very Heracles coded and Lussa is very Jenova.
And then Alissa just tacks on the a- at the beginning and expects us not to notice anything is wrong. Yeahhh thatâs not gonna cut it for me. PURPLE SUS. Greeeat disguise there, we totally didnât allll see through it right away.
Even if she doesnât turn out to be Jenova or a related eldritch horror, sheâs definitely being set up to be a parallel as things look right now. And her name isâŠdefinitely backing that up.
LSJ dictionary entry if anyone is curious though itâs probably not that easy to understand with all the abbreviations
Who knows if theyâre doing this on purpose or not. Either way I enjoy digging way too far into parallels
Hmmmm. Okay, about the name Alissa â I know we delved into the basic etymology but this is interesting, hear me outâŠ.
Alissa/AlyssaâŠ.if derived from the Alyssum flowerâŠa flower that is famously often purpleâŠ
And it specifically is a sweet, alluring flower that symbolizes this âworth beyond beautyâ and âwithout madnessâ effectâŠ.
âLyssaâ itself means rage or madnessâŠ.but the full name is against those emotionsâŠalmost like a soothing spellâŠ.
Alissa. Alyssum. The flower that protects against madness and rage, huh.
More sketchy employee profile images. Mostly made to be able to replace the picrew I had in the template I made since I can draw. I did end up just putting it as back and white though but the color is just nice to have. I'm STILL trying to tweak the template since it is very finicky and there is an example of what it looks down below if you're interested. It is a lot. It will happen. I am just not the quickest
There are typos and inconsistencies I missed but in general it should be fine...
#lobotomy corporation#lobcorp#lobotomy corp agent#lobotomy corp oc#I ALMOST POSTED THIS WITH NO TAGS dude. dude. that or they got eaten which is also a high possibility#a bit lengthy with a lot of text qs well if it is decided to be looked upon. as said before it full of maybe inconsistencies and typos#the reason i keep stalling making it public is because its in GOOGLE DOCS. GOOGLE DOCS!!! and unoptimized for phone viewing so ahh... eh...#there was going to be a later part for notes but it would be around the later days so... cant reallt happen#mostly after cheseds core suppression due to ryn and him having contradictory views up to that point. ryn putting way too much effort into#their job while at that point chesed kind of gave up in a way. not going to ramble too muhc abt that its oc things but the dynamic of that#was something i wanted to talk about a bit.. that and the death of angelina but that happens LATE and near the final days#and communication is down with the rest#i wanted to make more boxes and categories but also for the ease of use i limited it. that and attempting to fit them into pages seemed lik#hell. honestly. eekk!! not up for that. included both for the sake of showcasing. i didnt finish the last ones which was going to be a#showing of an employee with not as many permissions due to ryn and angelina actually both being captains. will do that when i do showcase#and give out the actual template along with other things like images for 'transfer' like another branch#'dismissed' 'resigned' 'deceased' 'mia' which would be for things like backwards clock and wellcheers#there was so much math needed.... it was just adding and checking numbers for a timeline but still..... ew..... that and employee team shit#tried to have it somewhat believable a bit. kind of semi believable to go yeah this could be smthn that is in the corp#employee numbers were based off red shoes entry!! it had been different before but i read it in game since i got it and was like. OHH wait#.... i feel rather embarrassed to post this actually. excited but also embarrassed. likely the idea of showing something i ended up#putting hours into . its probably that. plus the fact its for original creations.... i hope itll be of use some day
