favorite thing about them

I've been planning a reread of Gilded Apotheosis to recalibrate my characterization of Cyrielle. But I remember her being very caring and humorous. She was never particularly clever, but her blunt humor and attitude were endearing. She sassed Margit [affectionately] and sassed Morgott [derogatorily] and I think her characterization made her an OC shipping fodder protagonist people actually connected with!

I also like the design element of her golden scar. Its a physical feature that makes her stand out amongst the dozens of women Tarnished with braided hair (we all have great taste).

least favorite thing about them

I wish I had fleshed out her backstory more. For some reason I believed it was canon that Tarnished are revived with little to no memory of their past lives. I think I was just led astray by popular fanon haha. But regardless, I think Cyrielle is flatter than most other Tarnished OCs because of her lack of compelling backstory.

This one's difficult! To me Cyrielle has plenty of memorable scenes but very few striking lines. Morgott wins out in that regard. But these three jumped to the front of my mind. They are just really tender and loving. The first and third quotes are her addressing Margit before she learns of his double identity. It just. Auughhhh!!! And the second is her confronting Morgott with that truth.

I enjoyed the shift in HSPS when Mohg went from barely acknowledging her to being her confidant and friend. She’s one of the few people that doesn’t know a lot about his baggage and just treats him like her brother in law. Thus he was there for her at her lowest moment.

Yeah, they're mortal enemies now but thinking back on their relationship makes me almost nostalgic in a bittersweet way. They fought their way through Gelmir together! And Liurnia! They were besties! And now Aster can only regret the relationship he destroyed (and the memory of it too). And Cyrielle wants him to die. Tragic!

Before meeting Aster and beginning her earnest bid for Lordship, Cyrielle was recruited by D to collect Deathroot for Gurranq. This deepened her faith in the Golden Order- which eventually drew her to want to side with Morgott. It also makes her eventual fatal Deathblight wound all the more ironic.

Since Tarnished were largely persecuted and spurned in the Lands Between by the time of her arrival, she spent most of her Tarnished life living nomadically. Finally having a permanent residence allowed her to discover a love of cooking and gardening. But her standards of home cleanliness are really low.

as far as wendy's portrayal by the fandom i gotta agree. she's always been the fish out of water of the girls canonly, and i think too many people just sorta boil her down again to like. pretty. smart. awkward. they bring up that time she fought cartman and enjoy it but like. she gets treated like either Girl Kyle or.. Pretty but Shy or something??

she's never doing the Trends with the other girls at first, and i know she's the like "awkward" girl out of everyone, so she's used as an offset for Whatever Shit the other girls are getting into. but she's NOT shy and awkward or anything! she's loud and proud until she's beaten down. she's opinionated and chooses not to engage with trends and i think a lotta ppl see that she's a very feminist character and theyre like yes! thats the Girl™

but i think. personally. that wendyl was a really really awesome move. i wish more people would play with that idea, of wendy being ABLE to be less of a Girl for a while, even without bringing the transgender stuff into the picture. she can be boyish and wanna be crude and weird. she's educated and smart, but that doesn't mean she isn't ALSO a sorta tomboy? like she's so cool. i love wendy. so much.

STOBIN AS DRIFT COMPATIBLE BESTIES FIGHTING KAIJU!!!

OKAY OKAY BUT. post canon au where the Breach opens in the early nineties instead of 2013, and eventually when the Jaeger Program is just in the fledgling stages, right at the start when they figure out the drift and sharing the load, some American government goon looks at another, and they're both thinking the same thing. They know a couple chucklefucks who are scarily in tune with each other that already have monster fighting experience. The problem is of course the chucklefuckery and also they. Hate the government.

But they figure yknow. May as well try to get the actually very good at killing monsters the military can't clowns. They need people willing to go into deathtraps and fight giant monsters, and those two have done that a few times before. They need people that can connect to each other while also fighting without dying, and figure those two are a prime example. So after a lot of government groveling and Robin and Steve slamming the door in multiple suits' faces, they eventually agree to at least...see what it's all about. Because they heard about the attack in San Francisco on K-day, about Manila and Cabo San Lucas and Syndney, and it was all bad, and as much as they dislike and distrust the government and military...they do want to help (and the pay is...good). It was probably only a matter of time before their luck in avoiding monsters ran out anyway. At least this way they had some control of how.

So Steve and Robin are in the Jaeger Academy almost as soon as it opens. It's...an adjustment. They're obviously not the regular type to join, mostly its a bunch of men who were maybe ex military or something, and they stick out. Training is a pain in the ass, they've spent the years between the upside down closing lounging and working and starting to relax, and so there's the expected heckling.

(I want them to meet Newt and Herman so bad like. they'd be around the same age as them (because we are bumping everything in PR canon back for this) and I think the combo punch of Newt and Robin being themselves would be hilarious. They're all kinda outsiders in the macho militarism of the Academy and i think the chaos would just be. unimaginable. )

But anyways. I think during the testing to see drift compatibility, Steve is called up and looks the scientist/military guy (because it's early days there aren't really "instructors" yet) and says "If you even think about putting me in one of those fucking things with anyone other than Robin, you've lost your mind and forgotten we're only here because you asked us to be together." Everyone is like ooooooh but then he squints at them and they shut up like oh damn okay sorry yeah.

And that's the end of that discussion.

There's something about being in the drift with each other that makes all that complaining and speculating and wishing to combine when they were teenagers seem half-assed. It's...not like anything either of them can describe. It feels right, like they were always meant to be that way. If they lived in each other's pockets before the Drift, they're in each other's skin now. Silent communication is expected for long-term drift partners. Residuals of the bond, dream sharing, but Robin and Steve, even among other pilots are exceptional. There's entire discussions happening in brief eye contact. They move in sync outside the Jaeger just as well as if they were still in the Drift. They've only had one RABBIT incident, and they pulled out of it fine. It's...eerie for some people to watch them, even other Pilots. (also the fact they'll casually mention shit like "well at least the air isn't toxic" or "hey. don't call this torture, that's offensive. I've been tortured!" or even "can't believe i survived evil bats for this shit." which is mildly offputting)

They end up on the Pacific northwest and into southern B.C. with a Mach 1 called... something like Midwest Deluge or something idk. They're media darlings the first Kaiju they kill two fifty kilometres off the coast of Washington. Robin is quirky, and Steve has all his midwestern boyish charm, and together they entrance people with the Drift. There's interviews and talkshows and then at some point action figures? (Dustin does not let this go. By this time he's also working in K-sci. [obviously??] but he's still annoying little brother shaped.)

Steve is usually one of the first quoted to describe the Drift, in his first interview having said "When I first met Robin --became friends with her--it felt like we'd known each other our whole lives. Now we have." Robin is also sometimes quoted with "There's probably nowhere I'd rather be, than in Steve's head."

Of course, with them being in the media, being kickass, and also being part of a program that emphasizes compatibility, there's questions on whether or not they're dating. Because while the Drift isn't romantic by nature, my god people would romanticize it. And when two hot people of opposite genders that are not related to each other in any way are piloting the Jaeger, and are just *gestures to all of stobinisms* assumptions abound.

They're in an interview after their third kill when it happens. It's a few years into their tenure as Pilots, maybe '96? (if the Breach opened in '91 and they were recruited in 93?) The host asks "So. romantically. You two have always denied that attraction, but working so close together, literally in each other's heads, isn't there a chance that has blossomed into something else? Something more?"

They roll their eyes. Steve says "there's nothing more than what Robin and I have. Romance isn't more it's just something else."

Robin goes "Plus..." Before Steve looks at her, eyebrows raised. "I think so" she says, obviously to a question Steve asked that only she heard. "What are they going to do? Fire me?" they both laugh.

He shrugs. "if you're sure..."

Robin hums. "Yes, well. I agree with everything Steve said. The Drift isn't romantic, it's connection. It's knowing. All sorts of relationships can be Drift compatible. Steve's and mine is Platonic. Capital P."

"You gonna actually say it anytime soon?"

"Shut up."

"I dunno it seems like you're stalling."

"Christ, Steve. I'm getting to it. Let me tell the world I'm a lesbian without nagging, goddamn." She turns to the interviewer. "anyways yeah I'm a lesbian so it was never going to be romantic between me and Steve. I'm just obsessed with him."

There's a pause, before they lean into each other and giggle. Steve whispers "good job" that's barely picked up by his mic.

They get a stern talking to by their Marshal but Robin was right. They can't get fired for it. They're too good and pilots are too valuable for plain ol' homophobia to get in the way. (It's seen as a cornerstone moment in queer history, a Jaeger Pilot, someone the world can do nothing but respect, came out! casually. with an already supportive loved one sitting beside her, ready to laugh with her.) And while some people act weird or distant about it, most move past it pretty quick, considering the Midwest team is well respected and there's obviously the bigger problem of underwater aliens trying to kill everyone. You either get over it and work with them or you leave or get people killed.

By the time of the events of the movie, they're old-timers. They've upgraded once to a Mach 3 after a brutal fight with a high category than expected made Midwest Deluge inoperable. They're in Hong-Kong because where else would they be? They need to end this. Just like they needed to see the Upside Down to the end. Their whole lives have been dominated by fighting for their lives and to protect their home and the world. One last push. They aren't even forty yet.

and then the breach is closed and the world is saved and they can retire with their massive pensions from being the best monster killers ever <3

Oooh, good questions!! Okay, if Sonamy ever becomes truly and fully canon, (once I finish flipping out lol) I'd probably actually write their relationship to be very similar to what it is now. One thing I really like about Sonamy is how they can each be independent, but still love and care for each other. And they've both matured to the point where I think that not much would look different if they did start dating. I think there would be subtle differences, at least at first. Like, I doubt they'd be super public about their relationship. Sonic probably wouldn't tell many people, except maybe Tails, and possibly Knuckles. Sonic would definitely still travel, but I can see him picking up souvenirs from random places for her, buying stuff he wouldn't normally get and maybe passingly commenting that it was for his girlfriend (and then he'd leave without elaborating and the cashier would go nuts haha). Amy would probably want to be more open about their relationship, but I also know she would respect his wishes if he didn't want to. They'd probably spend most of their dates in secluded areas, probably out in nature, in the mountains or in the middle of a flower field, far away from society and cities. He'd probably take her with him on more of his runs. But yeah. 🥰💙🩷

I LOVE when Sonic gets to express his emotions more!! I totally get that they can't have him be overly emotional, that makes sense with his personality. (Besides when he's being a drama king over silly matters 😂) But like, getting in his head during the Metal Virus arc and seeing him start to stress and overthink things after days of infection and no sleep, seeing him have a breakdown in the first live action movie after being alone for so long, seeing him panic, seeing him display symptoms of PTSD and trauma in Prime, I've honestly been loving getting to see him be more vulnerable. He's still a hero, he'll always be a hero, but his falterings and doubts make him feel a lot more true to life. I love it!

The main duo that comes to mind that I REALLY want to see interact is Shadow and Whisper! I actually ship them, as does my bestie, but also I just really want to see their dynamic, what with how they both have trauma, both have experience with loss, and their lives have indirectly intersected. I want to see how they'd talk to each other, how they'd interact.

I also wanna see Sonic and Tangle just doing stupid stuff together. 🤣 They make such a chaotic sibling duo, they're both suckers for reckless adventure, I can just see them going cliff diving and stuff together while all their friends facepalm. 😂

How I feel about this character: I need to be more normal about Specs. He is not Don Knotts, he is not Don Knotts, he is not- I feel like out of all the newsies, Specs is the one with all the weirdest connections. (He's probably where Jack got all that rope.) If you need something, ask Specs. Just don't ask why. Dutchy is a little awkward and is very blunt. That's not to say he's antisocial though, he actually really likes talking to people. He's probably a bit of a klutz and you can pry dyslexic Dutchy out of my cold dead hands. I also feel like they'd both have very odd senses of humor.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I half jokingly ship Specs and Dutchy together because of that one scene in blood drips where Specs (Don Knotts) is stalking Dutchy (Ivan.) It's just funny to think about.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Once again Specs and Dutchy. They just get each other. And there's nothing indicating that they aren't besties, so... Also Specs and Skittery, and Dutchy and Itey.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Specs is not a nerd. He is smart, but he's not a nerdy book smart. He has a reputation of being all knowing because he knows the randomest things which gives the impression of him knowing everything. He's not about to contradict anyone though and manages to keep up appearances through intuitive smarts and sheer dumb luck.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish that Dutchy had been included in the stage musical. How where the background newsies decided upon in the adaptation process? I really want to know because why were all but a few of the 1992sies background newsies replaced? Justice for the 92sies boys! Just like with Bumlets and Swifty, Dutchy was based on a real newsies from the 1899 strike. It really sucks that they were lost in translation.

Sebastian is the love of my life <3 I'm obsessed with writing this character and reading this character and consuming any and all content related to this character.

I have sooooo many head canons about him, and the way I feel about him/his backstory/his personality has evolved a ton over the years, even since I've been writing about him. He has that snark and edge that I love to a character with a clearly very interesting past that we have complete creative liberties to explore. it's so fun and I love him !

BLAINE! seblaine is of course my otp, and no ship will ever come close to them for me in terms of the extreme brain rot obsession I have because of them - I love that they sort of balance each other out and have this undeniable chemistry that's pretty monumental for both of them and leaves a lot of room for us to explore

I don't think anything will ever come close to them for me, and I fully cannot bring myself to get behind kurtbastian no matter how much I love enemies to lovers as a trope (though when my mutuals write kurtbastian I still try to read it lol)

I did enjoy writing jeff x sebastian in how bright we burn (totally snuck up on me on accident - he needed to be with one of the other warblers for plot reasons and I picked Jeff because they're always in shots together in canon) but that's not something I think I'd ever be super into on like,, a bigger scale - I love it as a platonic ship though

honestly, the warblers as a whole - I really like the idea of Sebastian not really fitting in anywhere/never feeling at home anywhere before dalton and being very reluctant to get close with them at first which resulted in him coming on a little strong/trying to take control rather than trying to develop meaningful friendships, but then by the end he's found he really cares about them and wants them to succeed and finally feels like he's found a home and core group of friends

OH and i ADORE his friendship with cooper in the I'll be there for you series - their dynamic together is fantastic and I think probably the best written friendship for Sebastian that I've ever read

my unpopular opinion about this character

I'm not sure if this is unpopular or not, but I do really like that he's an imperfect person who clearly has a lot of growing up to do. He acts like an asshole and he is one kind of a lot of the time, but even the things he does maliciously aren't meant to be that harmful, and there's clearly a complicated person beneath the surface. I love slutty Sebastian and snarky Sebastian and bullying/blackmail/assault Sebastian so so much

I also don't like the idea of him being "soft" or immediately comfortable in a relationship with blaine just because he's the person he's meant to be with - a lot of my head canons about him revolve around him having a kind of unhealthy relationship with love/relationships, and I don't think it's realistic that they'd just immediately be in a happy relationship. I love fluff as much as the next person, but I definitely don't think their problems end when they get together.

obviously seblaine - even if they'd just given us a little bit behind the scenes (what were those phone calls and texts??? they were clearly good friends!!)

I wish he'd been around more after season 3 - I realize because of real life reasons this was impossible, and he probably would've been back quite a bit if it wasn't for the flash, but I would've loved to see him develop friendships and plots and sing more songs and maybe have a relationship or two

he's one of my first favorite glee characters and one of the main reasons I still love this show

I think I relate to him more than I relate to any of the other characters in the show - he has that passionate, overachiever, ruthless drive for success thing that Rachel has but he's also clearly very anxious about things and experiences depression and has some attachment issues, and I think all that makes him a much more complicated character than he's given credit for

I used to be a huge blam fan - I haven't read or written them in a long time but I still think this is probably my second favorite blaine ship - they have a lot of chemistry together with a lot of fantastic scenes and development in season 4 specifically, and I think this would've been a cool path to go down during their senior year in the post-kurt/mercedes era

I also used to love klaine (prior to realizing how toxic that relationship was lol) - they were def cute in season 2, and they were probably one of the first queer ships I saw on tv that I felt that attached too. I think if handled better in the later seasons they could've been great, and I think if they're written well they can be a lovely ship - I played blaine in a glee rpg during covid (dark times lmao) and I found writing klaine with a person who really cared for writing Kurt's character well to be super fun

definitely sam & tina! blamtina is my favorite trio in the show, and I think their friendship felt very realistic and well-developed, especially for something that really only existed to that extent for one season

a close second would be rachel - I think blaine and rachel definitely get each other in a way the other new directions don't really, and I enjoy their dynamic a lot, especially in the beginning of season 6

oh and the warblers. he referred to that group as a brotherhood and then just,, left ? makes it hard to believe they were as close as he said, but I also will die on the hill that he must've had strong relationships with those guys if they got him from how he must've felt post Sadie Hawkins to the guy that was confidently singing the lead at every performance

my unpopular opinion about this character

while I do think he was occasionally too whiny and treated as a caricature in the later seasons, I also think a lot of that was the natural progression of his character given the circumstances he was dealing with. I think it's very natural for insecurities to come up when you go from where he was at in season 2 (star/lead vocalist of the warblers, admired and beloved by his peers, confidently helping Kurt through the bullying and trauma of McKinley) to season 3 (ignored/disregarded by ND's leaders like finn, only getting the occasional line or two in performances, treated almost exclusively as Kurt's boyfriend)

he was more interesting in seasons 2 & 4 when he was single than he was at any point during his relationship with kurt

Light deserves a mention because while I don't ship LawLight romantically I do think they're an iteration of the "red thread" trope because no matter what time, no matter what place, they'll write history together with a pen filled with their own blood in place of ink. that said I was genuinely surprised that so many people ship them just because I don't see it at all. I don't hate it, there's just nothing that clicks for me when looking at L and Light.

All the people I ship romantically with Matsuda: mostly just L, I've seen Matsu + Misa stuff but I think they'd be cuter friends.

My non-romantic OTP for L: Light 100%. You can't have one without the other. I can't explain all my thoughts about them without a whole post dedicated to it, but anyway, Light is my answer.

My unpopular opinion about L: he does eat normal food on a semi-regular basis. specifically, meat, usually I think steak. I hc him as anemic but also Watari wouldn't let L die or become malnourished and there's important things in food that you can't necessarily get in vitamins or tablets. and actually, as someone with anemia, I think L would actually have really strong cravings for rare or medium rare red meat when his iron is low and thus when he eats it he enjoys it.

My unpopular opinion about Matsuda: He's actually really smart, especially with humanities subjects. Just doesn't have great detective skills. A different career path may have been beneficial but he actually really believes in justice, probably more so than L and Light, and he actually QUESTIONS his own sense of justice which leads to more balance. he's such a great guy.

One thing I wish had happened with L in canon: he survived. and actually, I'd just really like to see him solve lots of cases. idk how many/if any he solved outside the anime but you know. a side series where he solves cases and explores the world and has tea parties with Watari would melt my heart.

One thing I wish had happened with Matsuda in canon: honestly I just wish we got to see more of him in general. I wish we got deeper into his character - into everyone's character, actually, they're all a little 2D and it's not just the animation - but yeah. more Matsu. how he works.

My L OTP: I'm not sure if I can pick one HAHAHHS I love all his relationships (well, my headcanons for them) from platonic to father and son to mentor and mentee to enemies together to lovers. yeah. I just like L LMAO but maybe Matsu. hm idk. I hear some people ship him with BB or Naomi and I wanna look into that.

My Matsuda OTP: lowkey L and Matsuda are one of my favourite ships. in Matsu's case I don't really ship him with anyone else so this is the only answer. some of you might have noticed that in my headcanons Matsuda plays Pokémon Go! and L is a Pokémon fan too... hmm... Also I like them cause they're both childish: like yeah L is always calling Matsuda stupid but does he call any other task force members stupid, even when they deserve it? no. arrogant child and silly child. even in non ship situations I think they're actually on similar wavelengths in a way.

Both popular fandom interpretations have correct elements; she's a double-edged sword. Yes, she's a passionate, ambitious and quite possibly autistic young woman who has been a victim of constant and often vicious bullying, and I think she's also an self-serving, insufferable theatre kid with egomaniac tendencies and occasionally extreme reactions to being upstaged. Both are correct. She's complicated.

ALSO, my unpopular opinion is that I don't hate Season 3B for her. A lot of people complain about her being willing to defer her application for Finn and Kurt, or consider somewhere other than New York to study, because 'oh, she's acting OOC, she cares about Finn more than her dreams, what happened to crackhouse!Rachel', and while I do think that Rachel throwing away her dreams for a man (which she wasn't really, she still had every intention of being a star) isn't necessarily a good thing, the disappearance of crackhouse!Rachel is. Rachel learning to take other people's feelings into consideration--especially the feelings of the man she plans to marry--is a GOOD THING. Rachel being willing to be adaptable is a GOOD THING. Of course, I wish that she'd managed to have an ending with Finn--not necessarily RM's ending, but an ending, maybe in one of the non-Manhattan New York suburbs.

Finn is one of my absolute favourites, along with Mercedes. He's a very realistic teenager, and I think he's honestly the main character of Glee.

aside from the tragically obvious, I really wish that he'd just apologise to Santana for outing her. That would have been so easy, and I think it would have made the whole thing feel so much more natural--you can see already that he's already aware that he did the wrong thing and is attempting to make it up to her, and it would be much better if he'd just apologised as well. Especially since he's apologised for most other egregiously wrong things he's done, usually immediately after the fact.

I love Lois, obviously. She's such a fun and complex character beyond her identity as Clark's most iconic love interest. Lois is one of the ultimate standards for morality in Superman mythos, along with the Kents. She sets journalistic standards and prioritizes the truth and believes that being good doesn't mean being nice. She has strong goals and ambitions, and she's been hurt in a lot of ways by the complexities of her childhood (with her father especially). This doesn't leave her as a very open person, but it makes her no less good. And most importantly, Lois is a standard for how you have to stand up for what's right in the world. It's no wonder Clark falls for her.

Tim is such a fun and complex character as well. Fanon really likes to break him down, and it's such a shame because the canon is much more fun. He's not always right, and his choices are much more interesting when we lean into Tim making bad decisions.

Unpopular for fanon, but Tim's mental illness is not just depression. He absolutely displays signs of mania as well. TimKon. No, seriously, I wish Tim got an actual chance to address how his emotions about Kon's death made him act. Tim was in a relationship with Steph not long before he died, and Kon was with Cassie, but that doesn't preclude Tim from having romantic feelings for his bestie, and Tim should have been able to address that. Not with MegFitz though. Oh, I also think Tim should be a journalist and train under Vicki Vale, just to drive her crazy.

3. What surprised you most about this season?

So, I had a strong feeling and expectation that RCG would put their full pussy into this season (if it was me, and i was doing a podcast with my creative besties frequently revisting our batshit insane canon, i know i would too lol), but i'm still a little blown away with just how much they did with s16 creatively - and balancing that with keeping it true to its original form/pleasing more casual enjoyers. So much characterisation and subtext and growth AND social commentary, all while being gross-out and ridiculous. 10/10

Basically, I was surprised at how well my expectations were met, because that usually never happens in any aspect of my life xD

4. Did any of your predictions come true?

Yes! Before s16 started, I wrote a fic based on two seconds of Inflates from the original trailer, and it stood up pretty well. Also see answer to Q1 - I really, really expected RCG to 'mature/deepen' charlie a little bit, as well as further macdennis and bi/queer dennis more boldly this season, for a number of reasons (s14 + s15 buildup, podcast, etc... NOT just wishful thinking!) - and boooy did they deliver.

Also knew they'd have 'Dennis at the beach/tortured by electric vehicle', but I guess anyone who enjoys the podcast could have predicted that one, right?!

5. Most rewatched episode?

Frank vs. Russia (watched a couple times on my own and a couple of times with my partner, too, who's also a Sunny fan)

After a good old shuffle of my 94 hour playlist, I got Bad Romance by lady gaga. This is gonna come out of left field because I've never mentioned this fandom before, but it's sherliam from moriarty the patriot.

I've mentioned this to friends before, but we totally need a TGCF hosptial au. I guess I've always been interested in the idea of a true morally grey character, because sometimes there are characters that are described as morally grey, or even evil, when they're actually Just A Guy (*cough* Oikawa *cough*). The only character I can think of is probably Dazai from BSD. Everyone has an opinion and very few of them are correct. There is no way you can say he is a bad person, because many of his issues come from the fact that he is an orphan, raised by the mafia, and someone who took the opportunity to leave when prompted. Also, in his life after the mafia, he made a genuine effort to make good on his promises and fix his life, including saving Atsushi.

HOWEVER, you can't say he's a totally good person. He lived well in the mafia, because he didn't care about killing people and perhaps even enjoyed it, depending on how you view certain scenes. Many people would say that he's still not on anyone's side, he's only on his own side. This is debatable, but it's still there. PLUS you've got his continuation of the cycle of abuse through Akutagawa, and his willingness to pretend to betray his friends in order to get the outcome he wants. Everyone else is just a pawn to him.

I'm still undecided on him, but I'm proud of every fan that says "he's morally grey" rather than cutting it up into black and white. Remember that BSD was written for the stray dogs, not the ones who have lived happily all this time...

dunno if it's obvious- but i absolutely adore jade. he's quickly become my favorite character in twst. and my favorite muse i've written in a very long time. there is something i really love about characters like him. he's complex, two faced and manipulative. but still has a charm that makes him deceptively wholesome, friendly and inviting. best of all, people assume a lot about him, and he rarely goes out of his way to correct them. if other's assumptions are wrong( and they often times are )it's not his problem. they get to deal with the consequences. and don't even get me started on the more terrifying aspects of his character. if given the opportunity i really could talk about this eel for HOURS...

mmmm...i don't have a lot for him tbh. he's a romantic character, but he isn't really the best for a healthy relationship. that said, jade/azul is my #1 hands down, the two of them absolutely manipulate each other, but usually to the others benefit. there's also the fact that...they've known one another since grade school( the equivalent anyway ). i have a lot of thoughts and ideas on these two actually. the kind of thing that deserves it's own post. which........i've sworn to write in the past ik ik.

How I feel about this character

azul is, just like the twins, very precious to me. funny enough, growing up the little mermaid was my absolute favorite movie. and ursula was my favorite character. so when i saw azul i was like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then i saw the twins and i was so excited! as soon as i finished chapter three my fate was SEALED! he also has a very relatable story for me: i was bullied a lot too growing up. granted, i don't have magic to curse people with....and im not an octopus( bummer ik ). but still, his character rlly resonates with me as sb who grew up dealing with hurtful classmates. All the people I ship romantically with this character as i said in the prev one jade/azul is my favorite!!

How I feel about this character i love him just as much as i love jade tbh. he's super fun, unpredictable, and very complimentary to his brother's more subdued personality. despite his capricious nature, and unsettling demeanor...floyd is very easy going. he can be lighthearted without being overly goofy. it's so hard to nail down characters like that-- but i feel like they did a good job here. All the people I ship romantically with this character

floyd/yuu is my favorite LOL, it's just cute!! that's all! silly little shrimpy, goes to see his bball games, and goes swimming w/ him. i think despite a rocky start, and with his general demeanor and behavior-- floyd can be a surprisingly good motivator for yuu to take it easy. yanno, to not sweat the small things.

Remembered that I used to be obsessed with SoMa precisely because they never explicitly got together or even confirmed to have anything going on (just UST if you pay attention enough) the ambiguity of the nature of their relationship is 'precisely' why I like them, not a source of frustration and why I read fics of them, it really was the reason I love them and why reading their fics and doujins were so much fun.

Back in the day, I did kinda take a relationship between teens unseriously and prefered my teen couples to take awhile to be together once they're both more mature and know what they are doing, and Soma definitely gave off that vibes. As teens they just had a semi-romantic friendship where they'd even flirt with each other constantly, and would even do stuff couples might do like go on dates or kiss each other (unseriously and anywhere but the lips) or joking about calling each other husband and wife to their friends every once in a while, and I can see them becoming official later after they're both adults. It's the way the story left off with their relationship clearly taking a more flirty turn but you can take as long as you need to imagine when exactly they'd realize their feelings for each other that makes the ship so fun to rotate around in the brain like a rotisserie chicken. Also the appeal of two friends who are so close and love each other so much that they don't need labels to know they belong to each other was also super appealing to me.

It's only in the recent years though that I noticed shonen action manga often have very lame hetero couples becoming official each time (often to the detriment of the female characters) that I started to wish Soma could have been official and Soul Eater could be the one action shonen people can sometime refer to whenever they ask for a series with a developed canon 'main' couple that treat both participants (especially the girl) with respect without making the whole series be about their romance (just their relationship in general especially when they're still mostly platonic) but due to their ambiguous nature I know SE can never have that kinda reputation since it will always require them becoming explicitly romantic for people to recognize them as such. At most you get: the manga where the girl and boy mains are just close friends at last (I can't brush aside the romantic undertones in their relationship though and won't really turn to SE if I want a series with a strictly platonic boy/girl besties. For me they'd brushed the line beginning with the first ep with the whole 'why do men cheat' spiel and the mind dance, and then officially crossed it with the whole 'call me an angel' nonsense. I'd rather call it, 'the manga I turn to when I want a cocktease between the main boy/girl leads' lol)

I also sometimes wonder, while I super love how ambiguous their relationship turned out and preferred it that way, if making their relationship this way hurts them more rather than help them. Shippers made up one of the most dedicated parts of a fandom and some might rather not be led on when watching a series and won't settle for a mere a cocktease.

How I feel about this character: Neutral tbh. He is most certainly there but really I think he had the potential to be a much bigger character (as i feel for most magi characters :/ but thats just par for the course isn't it?) Overall I feel like I could've gotten to like him had he gotten any real development.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I want him to be besties with Titus, even after he said all that to him in the Magnostat arc- i want Titus to forgive him, and for Muu to be loyal to Titus without thinking of Schez

My unpopular opinion about this character: It's more of a problem I have with Magi's Fanalis in general but you can't separate the fact they are based on black people and the racial implications that faces? I like animalistic characteristics in characters but when it's attached to a group tied to a racial identity, how do you approach this gently? Is there a way to? I don't blame anyone for leaning into it because it's written into Magi itself, they aren't given a real identity outside of being former slaves and being animalistic and that's bad!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish they expanded more on him running away from Reim, or the possibility that he and other Fanalis are only allowed to be free because they are a part of the Fanalis Corps? Or maybe that comic where its mentioned he doesn't have many friends? there's a lot of details that I feel could have just been. idk. talked about LOL- for that matter they could've covered how he and his later household members cleared the dungeon, did Scheherazade guide him through it or did he do it himself? so many unanswered questions that we could have known and gotten to know him through that!

techno and dreams dynamic tho :c so good so pure. how dream said now they're closer and he doesn't want to jeopardize that by doing another big competitive thing against him (even though we'd all be happy to see it and they'd get so much clout) im luv them

oh my god how I literally have been waiting for this moment. technoblade and dream... the OP duo... the “Make-A-Wish” team... I MISS them so MUCH God when they work together, when they team together, when they have interactions I get so excited because there’s not a dull moment with these minecraft nerds.

you already mentioned one thing that literally lives in my head rent free and it’s the fact that dream said the main reason why he doesn’t want to do a manhunt against techno is because he does not want to make this “rival” status of theirs into this enemy thing between communities and between them because they’re friends and he doesn’t want to lose that- and like 🥺 dream really cherishes their friendship a lot !! and respects techno so so much. he’s always been such a big fan of his and they’re both overall super supportive of each other under the whole rivals bit:

another thing that lives in my head rent free is the fact that dream wanted to just vc techno when they were the only ones on the dream smp and just wanted to talk (before sap, george, and bbh crashed their VC LOL) like... that’s crumbs yo. CRUMBS for rivalsblr.  and also we cannot forget the infamous “dream is homeless bit” by techno... how dream had techno’s livestream pulled up and was listening in to his every joke and playing along by making a small diary and writing everything word for word that techno said as a joke. and then this part here too. like they easily bounce off of each other so well,, more interactions please.

GOD I cannot emphasize HOW funny it is whenever dream is trying to do lore and Techno is just pulling his “breaking the fourth wall” jokes in the middle (as he always does) because Techno would just be reading his donations aloud and dream would be patient and just barely tolerate it at first then BLOW UP AFTER THE FOURTH TIME OR SMTH. LIKE TECHNO LOVES PUSHING HIS BUTTONS ITS HILARIOUS god i love them

okay this is more dream smp lore related but like,,, c!dream being the only one that ever really stayed true to his word and never betrayed c!techno... and c!techno agreeing wholeheartedly, but then like both of them explicitly stating that they aren’t friends. we love to see it !! stating and !! respecting !! each other’s boundaries whilst blowing up countries together 😎 (like yeah i get it, both of them saw an advantage and took it but let me HAVE MY CRUMBS PLEASE) also dream and techno teaming up with tommy during the battle of the lake and winning... that was fucking epic and before the 3rd explosion of lmanberg and tommy’s betrayal against techno - techno goes “is this where you turn in your favor?” but then dream is like “pft what No you already wanted to blow up lmanberg” and techno goes “you know me so well dream” BHBJBJBHJ (SYNDICATE!DREAM COME TRUE OR ELSE)

OKAY also lmao I think it is always so funny every time I am reminded of how fucking sweaty dream and techno are even in the dream smp lore. Like the two standing facts of how dream literally made a WHOLE ass fucking obsidian grid above lmanberg with his fucking rapid TNT dropping thing and techno 1. breeding probably over hundreds of wolves as his army and 2. grinding for... way too many wither skulls. and both of them were on the same side. like holy shit they really know how to blow a country up.

also lets not forget the fact that once for buildmart, techno and dream “cheated” the MCC system by learning the builds for build mart (they were on separate teams too)- techno saying “there are 26 builds” and dream was like “actually 27″ they are absolute SWEATY NERDS and I LOVE THEM for that

speaking of MCC... when dream and techno teamed up that one time it was probably both relieving and stressful at the same time. because 1. they both play MCC competitively but in the case they are teammates, they will be more confident in each other’s skills and be like “oh i have dream/techno, they can do the heavy lifting.” whilst at the same time 2. because they are competitive and rivals, they want to outdo each other, they want to show off to each other as well you know?? like “I beat you in parkour” or “i outlived you in battle box” but also we’re on the same team and still winning LOL SO IT’S AN EZ DUBBB

OH WAIT and also that one time in minecraft bingo... i remember seeing a comparison of them being nervous due to the time pressure and it’s funniest thing ever. Dream talking really fast about what materials he has and asking questions to techno whilst techno is like the buffering noise. i love how complete opposites they can be
