Silvaze. Thanks for providing a picture to go with this! Yes, this is a big ship for me. Rather, one I can see going platonic or romantic.

Silver and Blaze have their own Unbreakable Bond. Even in worlds when their memories are erased, that connection is still there. Blaze helps Silver stay focused and grounded, and Silver helps Blaze lighten up. They balance each other perfectly. Their scene in 06 always hits me hard. And even if they don’t remember that, they’re still close in the new timeline. My heart goes out for these two wonderful characters! 🤍💜

I finished your AU as far as it is now and I want to say that you helped me appreciate Sonamy in a brand new way. I like that’s Sonic has more of his introverted eastern personality. While Amy is a mixture of her energy and mature nature. The way you put the story together is all so beautiful and I enjoyed every single second of reading it. The subtlety of their bond is what I liked the most. Sonamy, no matter what version has a subtleness I believe more people could appreciate by reading your AU. Keep at it. You do a fantastic job! 💙🩷

Secondly, yes!!! The subtlety of their relationship is something I LOVE so much about them in canon. I am planning on exploring it a little more deeply in this AU, but since I tagged it "slow burn" and want to stick to that, I want to drag it out as realistically as possible. 💙🩷 As I was "warning" @number-one-shadisper-shipper yesterday, I'm cooking up some angst for later in the story... �� (more like the angst broke down the door and started chasing me around with a hammer) so that'll provide some opportunities to dive into some more of the depth there will be. But at the end of the day, yes, I want to stick to that lovely subtlety of their relationship, and how it will certainly be no traditional relationship! 🤣💙🩷

As for if I were to write my own songs for both of them... Hm. If you mean in universe, like what kind of songs they would be performing, then... Well, I've had ideas, some of which I more described in the narrative. I know Amy likes to write songs straight from her own life and feelings, and she likes to use metaphors. I've done similar (sorta) things myself, although I have zero talent when it comes to writing songs and music 🥲 I've definitely thought about at least writing out the lyrics to a song that one or both of them would write, since I won't have to assign a tune to it, and songs don't have to have perfect rhythm... 🤔

I snuck in the actual song "Reach for the Stars" for the Sunset Squad already, as I'm sure people noticed 🤭🤣 but honestly a lot of Sonic and gang's current music is more or less wishful thinking. They write about dreams and aspirations in a way that makes them feel real and in the NOW. I could definitely see about writing out something more direct like that for them, especially since I myself can relate to their dilemma; specifically Sonic's. 🥴 I'll sure keep the thoughts in mind as I go about this! 🤩💙🩷

Sonic and Amy's relationship through the years: why did it change?

From games to shows, comics to official publications, it's evident that the dynamics of Sonic and Amy's relationship have changed through the years, with Amy toning down her fangirling and Sonic often being the driving force of their ship with his flirting, teasing and subtle jealousy (as user @essycogany pointed out in this analysis). But why are we witnessing this change? Let's dive into some key moments and reasons.

Disclaimer: I'm going to disregard the "canon" factor because it's not relevant to the general public perception of their relationship.

Sonic X

Any good sonamy fan will remember the fateful episode 52 of Sonic X. I interpret this episode of the series as the key moment that shifted their dynamic.

From the beginning of the series, we see an Amy that is very vocal about her crush and chases Sonic around, with Sonic having a few not-so-nice moments of pushing her and trying to run away from her. Their relationship shifts through the series though, and we begin seeing more of Amy's side as a determined fighter (that scares even Eggman!).

I won't over analyse episode 52 as it has been done countless times before, but Sonic going back to his world and seeking Amy in the first place means she's a valuable friend (or something else) to him. This moment alone brought popularity to the ship and to Amy as a character, which brings us to the next point.

Character development

I'm gonna risk saying that Sonic and Amy are the characters that have suffered the most development throughout the years. There are other characters who had development and even met different versions of themselves, but Sonic and Amy stand out in my opinion for different reasons.

Let's analyse Sonic: from the beginning, Sonic was always supposed to be cool, a beacon of positivity and the embodiment of the hero that always saves the day. The first Sonic games are pretty straightforward about that. However, in more recent games and shows, we've been seeing different sides of him: he has made mistakes (and recognized it), he has been impulsive, he has felt grief, sadness and anger and he hasn't been shy about it. Sonic Prime showed us probably the most emotional version of Sonic we've seen, and guess what? That pleases the public because everyone enjoys a flawed hero.

Moving on to Amy. Amy has a somewhat controversial birth, given that she was (apparently) created to be "Sonic's girlfriend" / romantic interest. Her crush on Sonic was, for some time, her only personality trait. With new games and media, she gradually gained her space and we started seeing more of her. Her kindness, her strength, her empathy, her leadership skills — all of which exist despite her crush on Sonic. She became more appealing as we got to learn more about her, and solidified her position as a valuable member of Sonic's team.

The development of these two characters as explained above made it possible for the dynamic we have today to grow naturally: Sonic openly teasing and (very often) showing signs that Amy means a lot to him, which is a result of Amy being her own self and showing her strength and independency — traits that we know Sonic appreciates.

Progression of values in society

I don't want to make this sound more deep than it actually is, but it's true that certain dynamics wouldn't be acceptable today simply because we as a society have progressed. The trope of the fangirl chasing her idol everywhere might have been a fun gag in the 90s, but it's just not it for today's standards. It has been made very clear that Sega wants to stir away from that image since that, for Sonic Generations, they edited the scene from Sonic 06 where Sonic shoves his hand in Amy's face to push her away. This kind of behavior doesn't align with Sonic's current values either.

Teasing is just fun!

Honestly, teasing sonamy is just too much fun without the commitment. One of the writers for Sonic Boom once said it:

And isn't that true? It's refreshing seeing the cool, composed Sonic blushing or showing jealousy, as it is to see how Amy reacts to her crush behaving this way. As a longtime sonamy fan, I just love searching for all the small hints and teases and over analysing them (like I'm doing now). It's endless material for gags too — check this compilation of sonamy moments in Twitter takeovers.

In conclusion, Sonic and Amy's relationship changed as they progressed as characters and Sega aimed to please a wider audience, giving space for fans to interpret their relationship as they please.

As for Shadow and Knuckles, I completely agree. I believe Eggman put it best when he said they were cut from the same cloth. They're both kind of loners and have their own way of doing things. And they're both big rivals of Sonic. Chaos knows that blue boy can get on their nerves. XD

At least we got some issues in Sonic Universe. Really showcasing how they've earned their right as being such cool and important characters, and how they could even be rivals themselves.

Plus, the idea of Shadow and Knuckles getting together just to talk about how annoying Sonic can be is hilarious.

9. Best childhood moment?

Huh. I don't know if I have a specific answer for this, but my childhood all in all was fantastic. It was kind of the golden age of technology in my humble opinion; it existed but hadn't dominated society. I just remember being outside a lot, bright green grass and trees, bike-riding to the park where my dad would teach me and my sisters tennis and soccer and volleyball and we used to have a trampoline so I used to go out on it with my brother and honestly it was all wonderful. Not perfect but no one's childhood is 😂

Oooh, good questions!! Okay, if Sonamy ever becomes truly and fully canon, (once I finish flipping out lol) I'd probably actually write their relationship to be very similar to what it is now. One thing I really like about Sonamy is how they can each be independent, but still love and care for each other. And they've both matured to the point where I think that not much would look different if they did start dating. I think there would be subtle differences, at least at first. Like, I doubt they'd be super public about their relationship. Sonic probably wouldn't tell many people, except maybe Tails, and possibly Knuckles. Sonic would definitely still travel, but I can see him picking up souvenirs from random places for her, buying stuff he wouldn't normally get and maybe passingly commenting that it was for his girlfriend (and then he'd leave without elaborating and the cashier would go nuts haha). Amy would probably want to be more open about their relationship, but I also know she would respect his wishes if he didn't want to. They'd probably spend most of their dates in secluded areas, probably out in nature, in the mountains or in the middle of a flower field, far away from society and cities. He'd probably take her with him on more of his runs. But yeah. 🥰💙🩷

I keep meaning to make a post with a list of Sonamy headcanons along those lines haha. 😂🥰

I LOVE when Sonic gets to express his emotions more!! I totally get that they can't have him be overly emotional, that makes sense with his personality. (Besides when he's being a drama king over silly matters 😂) But like, getting in his head during the Metal Virus arc and seeing him start to stress and overthink things after days of infection and no sleep, seeing him have a breakdown in the first live action movie after being alone for so long, seeing him panic, seeing him display symptoms of PTSD and trauma in Prime, I've honestly been loving getting to see him be more vulnerable. He's still a hero, he'll always be a hero, but his falterings and doubts make him feel a lot more true to life. I love it!

The main duo that comes to mind that I REALLY want to see interact is Shadow and Whisper! I actually ship them, as does my bestie, but also I just really want to see their dynamic, what with how they both have trauma, both have experience with loss, and their lives have indirectly intersected. I want to see how they'd talk to each other, how they'd interact.

I also wanna see Sonic and Tangle just doing stupid stuff together. 🤣 They make such a chaotic sibling duo, they're both suckers for reckless adventure, I can just see them going cliff diving and stuff together while all their friends facepalm. 😂
