Your and Drew morning had started off perfectly.

You and Drew had just wrapped up a long press tour, and finally, a lazy day together was in order. Hoodies, sunglasses, and a quick coffee run, so simple, right?

Well… almost.

You held Drew’s hand as you both walked into the small coffee shop, a place that had become a quiet favorite of yours over the past few months. It wasn’t too crowded, the baristas were nice, and most importantly, they made the best iced vanilla lattes.

Drew was half-distracted, scrolling through his phone with his free hand, probably checking a text from his agent.

Meanwhile, you stepped up to the counter, ordering your usual and Drew’s preferred cold brew. He grinned at you, pocketing his phone and wrapping an arm around your shoulder while the barista rang you up.

The moment the drinks were placed on the counter, you thanked the barista, grabbed your cup, and turned to Drew, expecting him to do the same. Except—

He was already walking out the door.

With his drink.

That he did not pay for.

Your eyes widened as you called after him.

“DREW, YOU JUST STOLE THAT.”

Drew, mid-sip, froze in place.

His blue eyes widened in sheer horror as he turned to look at you, then at the store, then at the drink in his hand. You could practically hear the gears turning in his head.

“I THOUGHT I BOUGHT IT.”

You bit your lip to keep from laughing as he stood there, looking like a deer caught in headlights. The barista behind the counter blinked at him, half-amused, half-confused.

“Babe,” you whispered through your giggles, walking toward him.

“You didn’t even take out your wallet.”

Drew’s face turned a shade of pink you rarely saw.

“Oh my god. Oh. my god.”

His voice came out in panicked whispers before he turned on his heel and sprinted, actually sprinted back inside.

What happened next would be forever etched into your memory.

Drew dramatically dug into his pocket, pulled out a handful of bills, and threw them onto the counter.

“I AM SO SORRY,” he announced, as if he had just committed a grand felony.

“I SWEAR I DIDN’T MEAN TO—I WAS JUST—I GOT DISTRACTED AND—”

The barista, bless his soul, simply nodded.

“Happens all the time, dude.”

But Drew wasn’t done.

“I SWEAR I’M NOT A CRIMINAL.”

You lost it.

You actually doubled over laughing, tears pricking at your eyes as Drew continued his over-apologizing spree. The poor barista just gave him a thumbs-up, clearly unsure of what to do with the sixteen dollars Drew had thrown at him for a four-dollar drink.

“Baby,” you wheezed, stepping beside him.

“I think they forgive you.”

Drew exhaled dramatically, running a hand through his hair as if he had just survived a life-threatening event. He turned to you with a sheepish expression.

“I panicked.”

You wrapped an arm around his waist, grinning up at him.

“I noticed.”

He groaned, hiding his face in your hair.

“I can never come back here again.”

The barista, who was definitely going to tell this story later… cleared his throat.

“No worries, man. I’ll just put a ‘Wanted’ poster up with your face.”

You cackled as Drew shot him a look of pure betrayal.

“Bro, don’t do me like that.”

Still laughing, you tugged on Drew’s hoodie, pulling him toward the door.

“Come on, Bonnie, let’s go before you accidentally commit another crime.”

Drew huffed but followed you, his arm slung lazily around your shoulders as you walked back to the car. He glanced down at you, a lopsided smile playing on his lips.

“You’re never letting me live this down, are you?”

You smirked.

“Not a chance, Clyde.”

And with that, the legend of Drew Starkey: Accidental Criminal was born.

I didn't plan to join Fluffebruary since I'm the one running the event but I can't stay away from my beloved fluff so here we go, just a ficlet I wrote in half an hour to celebrate our boys.

Buck's never been a movie enthusiast but he enjoys movie nights with Tommy. His boyfriend is a bit nerdy when it comes to movies and Buck is more than happy to indulge him as they go through a list Tommy made because “there are movies you absolutely have to watch, babe.”

Most of all, he adores seeing Tommy so relaxed and comfortable as they snuggle up on the couch, bodies pressed together and a giant bowl of popcorn balanced precariously between them.

Tonight they're watching Notting Hill and he’s enjoying it - the plot and a young Hugh Grant - but it doesn't matter if he actually likes the movie they're watching or not, at some point he starts to get restless, unable to sit still.

They're halfway through the first part of the movie when he starts fidgeting with one of his hoodie strings, rolling it between his fingers.

Tommy, oh-so sweet Tommy, obviously notices and subtly moves his hand, resting it on top of his thigh and squeezing, a silent invitation that Buck doesn't miss because it's a habit, an established routine by now. When he gets restless, he holds Tommy's hand and plays with his fingers instead of torturing his own or the poor loose thread on his sweatpants.

Turning his head, he presses a soft kiss to Tommy's neck and then traces the veins on the back of his hand, reverently, one by one.

Buck loves Tommy’s big, warm, capable hands. He loves having them on his body, gentle fingers skimming across his skin, leaving goosebumps in their wake. He loves how perfectly their fingers fit together, loves how gentle Tommy is with his touch.

When they shook hands for the first time, Buck appreciated his firm but soft squeeze and the feeling of his callouses against his own but he had no idea that it was only the beginning. He had no idea that holding hands with Tommy would make him feel so safe, so loved, so complete, like two puzzle pieces finally sliding into place.

It's been a while since that first time, but the feeling is still the same and holding Tommy’s hand always calms him down instantly, especially when he's feeling restless.

He knows the palm and the back of Tommy's hand better than his own by now, so even if his eyes are fixed on the screen, he traces the tiny scars on Tommy's skin, the adorable mole on his third knuckle, the lines on his palm. He grazes every inch of his smooth skin, committing Tommy's hand to memory all over again.

When he's done with his gentle touching, he lets his lips take over, pressing them against Tommy's pulse point, along the thick veins on his wrist. He presses a kiss to his palm and then turns his hand so he can graze every knuckle, lingering on his ring finger, a promise of forever floating around them.

“I love you,” Buck whispers, still clutching Tommy's hand, pressing it against his chest as he settles back down, feeling warm all over as Tommy holds him close, brushing a kiss on his birthmark.

“I love you too, Evan.”

it was a bit hard to follow, but the impression I came away with is that for you, intimacy and relationships are deeply triggering. You mention feeling empathy for the first time in the context of the first person you had feelings for, and all I could think was wow, what a double-whammy. Empathy is nerve-racking even for people who feel it more intuitively or who have had longer practice with it. What you describes sounds like a run-of-the-mill emotional overload for someone with a lot of weight riding on the idea of whether or not they can show up authentically and empathetically in their relationships.

There has to be some way to lessen the burden you are carrying to be think say do what is right and necessary and correct, especially when all of it is so new and hurts so badly. I think it would be helpful for you to know that it is only ever possible to get to know a pretend version of somebody, not their “true” self. People are kaleidoscopic clouds of fragments; to my mind, they need to be allowed the freedom to escape whatever identity they attach themselves to and morph into something else as many times as they need. I don’t hold my pretend versions of my loved ones against them, I would never seek to limit them with my pretenses of who they are and can be, but it doesn’t mean that this isn’t a game of pretend from top to bottom. You never really know people. All you can hope for is to get miraculously lucky with the impressions they give you from one moment to the next. Your beloved is an elusive animal long thought to be extinct who you will only ever get brief glimpses of through the brush. This is a good thing.

Please give yourself grace, and if you are still brave enough to explore empathy, please try to see yourself as someone who qualifies as deserving of it. If you enter that period of overwhelm where everything to do with intimacy becomes a tool to scourge you with: slowing down and noticing what’s happening and what’s coming up to you is the best thing you can do for yourself. Put kind attention around what you notice and observe. Your commitment to refusing to play the role of judge, cop, or mean parent in these scenarios is essential. You have to find a way to be your own warm interested cooler older sibling who cares about what’s going on with you.

You can “come back” from this, but there isn’t a place to go “back” to. The road into the woods just gets darker and twistier. Stranger and stranger animals will appear in the underbrush. If you’re very careful and very lucky you may be able to feed one from your hand.

What Exactly Did David Jenkins Say?

Look, I'm still staunchly of the opinion that Word of God statements and creator interviews are overvalued in fandom, especially when they get pulled out mostly as gotchas without then continuing to analyze whether or not the show canon is successful at getting across that same message. Death of the Author is good, actually, and we should remember that. But they are worth looking at in the context of evaluating intent vs execution, and for future speculation - just, like, please with less of the whole mile high pedestal idolizing and backlash cycles.

But if overvalued "Word of God" is annoying, then overvalued "supposed creator statements that have gone through three rounds of telephone and any given blogger has only heard about a quarter of them, which they'll use confidently anyway" is worse. So, since I'd already looked up interviews for various reasons...

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of interviews David Jenkins has given and statements he's made during them, presented without commentary (save curating which statements get highlighted). All provided with links. I definitely missed some, so if you have any that you want to add, please do - though if you could trim off any commentary and save it for tags / your own post with a link that would be cool.
