summary:

Rory rolls her eyes and drops down onto Eli’s other side. She passes him the flask. “How do you feel?”

He sips and winces. “Like a ball of soggy mozzarella.”

“Well, don’t beat yourself up for it. There are five stages of grief and it can take a while to move through them all. I think Tolstoy said it best with the words: ‘Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them’—”

“Hey Anna Karinena?”

She blinks. “Yeah?”

“I meant like physically,” Eli says, grinning a little.

Rory huffs and jostles him a little. “You so did not.”

“No, seriously,” Eli caps the flask, “we’re gonna get hypothermia if we sit out here any longer like a merry bunch of fuckwads. We should get inside before Abuela sends out a search party.”

And so they rise, and Jess wraps an arm around Eli’s shoulders as they walk. They stumble a little and then fall into pace together.

Writing Rory!Master fic and once more my brain loves chewing over Eleven & Rory!Master fumbling around each other. Because the last time the Doctor saw the Master, it was Simm!Master in End of Time, and the last time the Master saw the Doctor, it was Twelve in The Doctor Falls. And both of them are sad and bitter over versions of the other that no longer exist or have not yet come to be and do not know how to meet each other where they are now. Talking to one another like they're each talking to a ghost. Delicious.
