What sorts of things did you do with them? What kind of birds? I must know! 🥺🦜

I worked with house wrens in college!! I was a field tech for a grad student who was studying the effect of urbanization across a gradient.

There was actually a lot that went into it! So she had 3 sites; a park in the city, a location on the outskirts of the city where our uni had a farm, and a nature preserve. All of those locations had bird boxes.

The beginning of the season was pretty monotonous. Like are the sticks in the box enough to be considered a nest in progress? But once the nests are built, oh man. Half of the nests at each site got food supplementation, to see if chicks would get bigger than others. The mom’s would get the food as they started laying eggs so hopefully!!! they could spend more time incubating and being good moms than needing to go get food.

Once eggs were laid, they were all measured and weighed. The grad student took half of the eggs to measure the cortisol levels, the stress hormone.

When mom is incubating, she’s caught on the nest. Usually around incubation day 7-10, so she’s far enough along that she likely won’t abandon the nest. My first year, we had a fishing line trap over the entrance. Basically, two people sit with binoculars and stare at the box. Bird goes in, pull fishing line, run to box, bleed bird. It’s generally mom. They’re not sexually dimorphic, but if you blow on the belly feathers, the female won’t have feathers bc they’ve been sitting on eggs. Mom gets colored bands and such. Then when the chicks hatch, we try to catch dad. And honestly, house wren dads suck. They really only show up half the time. If they’re caught, they get banded too.

After eggs come baby birds!!! Everyone’s favorite part. It’s so cool to see them grow up. House wren chicks are feeble and pitiful looking when they first hatch. They got measured one day after hatch, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14. At 14 they have blood drawn to measure their cortisol levels. This was the exciting part! So the grad student would sneak up on the nest, cover the entrance, and grab the chicks out of the box and throw them to the field techs. There were just 3 of us last year. If there were more chicks than us, they sat in a bird bag and whoever finished bleeding their chick first started on the extra chick. The literature says cortisol levels start to diminish after 3 minutes, so the goal is to bleed X amount of chicks in that time. It can be stressful lmao.

Around 16 days they start to fledge. If they’re getting food supplements, it stops at 14. They get checked everyday until the leave.

Last summer, it was wild. It was a wet winter, like it snowed in early May as we were putting up boxes. Lots of nests.

There was also a nest at the site in the city where a mom had laid eggs, and the chicks had hatched, yay! Dad finds another female, brings her to this box, female digs it. Uh, ok, chicks are still there. One of the other field techs notices that the chicks are buried under sticks. Are they doing it to themselves? All of a sudden, another egg pops up. The dad had cheated on the first bird and mated with another. The new female kicked the first female out. Not only that, the new female killed one of the other’s chicks.

A different grad student joined in late summer 2021, so he didn’t really get to do much. But last year, he put up little cameras in the nest boxes and watched the parents come in and out and feed the chicks. I bring this up BECAUSE he caught the new mom from the previous paragraph pecking the chick to death.

It also led to the discovery of one of the best sentences I’ve read in a scientific paper, not verbatim, “the male continued to sing in the tree while the two females fought.” It’s from an old ass paper, but you know, fantastic to read.

Bewick’s wrens and mountain chickadees also use nest boxes, so we got to interact with them too. Mountain chickadees are very fuzzy. The also make a hissing sound and beat their tail feathers against the box when they’re threatened. They imitate a snake. Even though I know this, it’s still terrifying to hear it.

But seungmo’s very smart. So it’s not long before he realizes that you’re jealous. Believe me, this puppy is ecstatic over the idea of you being so possessive about him. He finds you so freaking adorable when you frown and pout and falls in love with you SO MUCH MORE, it’s as if he’s about to explode right then and there. But gotta act cool, right? So he suppresses it and tries his best to make you smileeeeee. Seungmin isn’t normally a very touchy person but whenever you’re upset, it’s as if he’s posessed by the felix virus. He hugs you, pats your head, kisses you and becomes awfully verbal with you. “Baby are you madd??” He shyly asks while brushing the strands of your hair away from your face and looking at you with puppy eyes filled with love. “Well then come here baby.” He softly mutters and pulls you up bridal style and seats you in the comfy couch in between his legs. Seungmin takes his guitar, uses his artsy fingers to play the chords as his angelic voice hums “well I will call you darling and everything will be okay cause I know that I’m yours and you’re mine doesn’t matter anyway. In the night we’ll take a walk it’s nothing funny just toooo talkk. Put your hand in mine, you know that I want to be with you all the time. ♫“ To this, you end up smiling brightly and him? He doesn’t feel the need to act cool anymore as he catches your lips in between his to show you just how much he loves you. ♥︎

Now this baby bread will NEVER realize you’re jealous until you voice it out and tell him what made you mad. (I mean nobody told him how he’s just the squishiest ball on earth that everyone wants to cuddle with and have all to themselves) Jeongin and you don’t get to meet often because of his packed schedule and this time you were meeting after a whopping 2 weeks break. But when you went over at their dorm, all the other members were all over him and even their manager was adoring him so much, you barely even got to hug him. That was what made you so upset. You start spacing out and sulk in the corner of the sofa by yourself and he does approach you, totally oblivious as to why you’re reacting this way. He’s concerned and rubs your shoulders looking at you again and again with sparkly eyes. He missed you so much more but for whatever reasons you were being off to him. So now, he gets upset. (Don’t blame him he was raised and spoiled with a lot of love from skz and JYP so if you don’t give him enough love and attention, baby bread gets sad :() eventually, seeing his gloomy face you give up and roll over to his side to which he grins JUBILANTLY AND ENCLOSES YOU IN THE TIGHEST HUG >.< ♡︎. He becomes so needy and lovey, that night he sleeps burying his head on your chest and telling you everything he did and missed about you during this time of your separation. And you know the purest part? When you wake up in the middle of the night, you see jeongin tightly holding onto your sleeve because he was scared you were gonna go away from him again. He loves you and there’s no doubt by how he’s so afraid to lose you. <3 you can’t help but smile as you give a sweet peck on his forehead, “yang jeongin. I’m so glad you are mine.♡︎”

incredibly excited to see more of Morgyn and Caleb in the story!! I never read the original story and I'm not sure if it was mentioned in the current iteration before your recent posts, but I was very surprised to learn Caleb was mute when he first met Morgyn! (also thought it was very sweet that they taught him sign language so the two could communicate) just musing out loud, but I wonder if it has any connection to the way his parents hovered over him + Lilith resented him when he was younger, or if he went mute after Lilith and/or him became vampires... Also excited to see more about Lilith's backstory and her connection to Vlad!

oh. also! I really admire how you have these wildly different stories going on, between Gunther's kinda macabre/mystical vampire adventure, Wolfgang going out to StrangerVille with Cass to investigate Bella (iirc?), and Lucas' struggles with growing up and his feelings towards Max. Any one of their stories would be fun to read on its own, but the way you feed them back into/layer them on top of each other (ie Gunther helping Lucas after the party and showing him their dad's music 🥺🥺).. it is so satisfying and it feels SO realistic. Everyone has their own crazy shit going on and yet they still care about each other. i really love the way you're sharing this story with us

I miss Wolfgang + I'm very curious to see how his next arc will go.. partially wondering if Cass' search for Bella will somehow give us crumbs about Ernest (who. god I'm frothing for info about him!!!!)... what else. OH!! I love the glimpses into the Villarreals' lives/situation.. it's all so interesting and I'm not sure if Carmen (i am so sorry if that is NOT her name 😭😭) has a role in the future of the story, but her disappearance/murder has me SO 🌋🌋🌋🌋.

I 100% agree with softly dominant Eddie feeling right. There is one thing that I still can’t decide, and it’s what level of sexual experience Chrissy has. On one hand while I can understand (and appreciate) people writing her as totally inexperienced, to me it feels more accurate that she has experienced the ‘mechanics’ of sex (or sexual activity at least) but perhaps not the ‘fucking incredible’ side of it which comes with being completely open, satisfied and communicative with a partner you love (and lust). But I’ve seen so many excellent interpretations that span the whole spectrum of possibilities.

Hmm in regards to chrissy my opinion is that she has some level of experience but she hasn't "gone all the way" so to speak. She's definitely not some naive innocent person, I think she definitely knows how everything works and she'd deffo have friends on the cheer squad who were experienced and would spill all the deets of their exploits!!!

I think her and Jason dated for quite a while so she's probably only done things with him, and I think for whatever reason she was holding off on PIV sex with him. My personal HC is that on some level, maybe subconscious, she's aware she doesn't really love him and she wants to save sex for the right person/situation. I also thinks there's an element of her not wanting him to be able to have the satisfaction. To be able to brag to all his douchey friends that's he's "deflowered" perfect chrissy cunningham (yuck!)

I don't wanna give too much away but I sorta go into all that a bit in my fic! I wanna explore the process of her getting more comfortable with eddie and being able to communicate her wants and needs and vice versa 🥺🥺🥺

I've watched the episode several times already and I'm still processing it. It was soooooo good. Honestly, it felt like chapter 16.5 of the Mandalorian and not tbobf but I'm not complaining. AT ALL  We had over a year (404 days to be exact) since we last saw Din and it was more than fair to have the episode solely focused on him. I think is appropriate since many side characters, including Boba, stole spotlight on season 2 of the Mandalorian.

If I'm honest, this episode went nothing as I imagine it would. For starters, as I said, it was Din's hour to shine. One of my fears was that they were baiting us with Mando appearance to only show him up at the end of the episode. I'm beyond ecstatic that they did the opposite. They were so many Easter eggs, call backs and parallels to different Star Wars content that I'm sure I missed a few.

I've see the opinion of some people, so I'm turning deaf ear to the haters, because right now, I'm very much pleased with the episode. They really pushed the bar higher than never for the last 2 episode. If they keep this up, the coming 2 weeks are going to be EPIC!!

I love that Din is at least accepting that he's the owner of the darksaber (altho ignoring responsibilities that come with it)

See!! I knew Din was going to win (duh! Obviously! He's a main character) It's nice too see Din and Paz go through a fight till the end. In chapter 3 we were left with the doubt of who would win. Now, we know.

Oh! Here we go. Time for the truth. 😣 Neither the armorer nor Paz will like the answer. And Din, honey, keeping silence won't do you good this time. It won't work.

I knew she was going to do it and yet it hurts all the same listening to the armorer saying Din is Dar'manda. She didn't even ask why he removed his helmet. I mean if that's such an important thing for them, it's only logical to think he took his helmet because something really important, not out of a whim! And idk armorer, kicking out one third of your covert is hardly great to the efforts of rebuilding it! 

Omg! Din stripping all his weapons off 😂 it's tragically funny just after being dubbed as no mandalorian.

No astromech but that can be a seat for Grogu!!! Yes ye yes! As if I wasn't sure before, that detail is a clear sign that Grogu will come back. Maybe not in episode 1 of season 3 but sooner than we expect.

I love the Razor Crest and its destruction is a punch to the gut every time I watch that scene. I wish Din still had it, but I must admit that this new ship is growing on me fast.

Now it makes sense to me why Fennec knew where to find Din. The end of the previous episode left me wondering how she was keeping tabs on him, but I guess it wasn't on him specifically, but anyone interesting that arrived to Tatooine. Din probably was in Mos Eisley long enough for Fennec to hear gossip about it 

Awww Din foregoing payment. He's going to help them as a friend(even if nobody says those words). 

See Din, you don't need the narrow-minded armorer nor Paz. You have a nice, welcoming found family that doesn't care if you took the helmet off or not. What's more important, they understand the sacrifice you made. These guys will have your back no matter what, just you have theirs. You don't need anyone else

The idea of Kurono taking care of his post partum spouse and newborn child (and Nataku) is making me go feral. There’s nothing like domestic bliss with a business man. My brain shortfried over imagining him holding Nataku’s hand (omg Nataku’s backpack having a keychain similar to Kurono’s tie clip 🥺) waiting for the school bus while he has his newborn child strapped to his chest in a baby swaddle.

The way I choked on air- Nearly fell off the elliptical- Had heart palpitations after reading this- I love this man ok.

Kurono is perceptive of other humans to a fault. It's eerily unnerving to people who are not, accustomed, to his mannerisms and vernacular. And when they find out his married is enough to make their jaw drop ten stories. But then casually drop the bombshell that he's a father to two kids, as Kurono rightfully likes to remind people, then there's no hope but to sow their jaws back onto their faces they've fallen clean off their faces. Because the idea of Kurono in a nuclear setting to anyone is bizarre as it comes.

But frankly not too far off. He married you and it's his job to he a present accountable husband. Then agreed to take Nataku as his own with you. Therefore having the job title of parent that he works with too. And now another, much tinier weaker version of the sniveling kid he already has, has entered the world. Once more giving Kurono a job that he must fill. It is his duty after all.

That spine tingling creepiness that leaves most people averting their gaze when he enters a room. Does nothing but work in your favor after the newest addition. Kurono has no idea about babies except that they're weak and small. His two favorite traits of humankind if he's being honest. The cries, the hunger, the changing, the chubby cheeks, all beautifully reminds of how much he loves them and their weak little state. And now that you've carried and birthed this child as well, you're as wonderfully weak as could be and nothing more warms his heart. Though Kurono will admit there is nothing weak about what you went through and that right there is enough to strike just a residual amount of fear in the man as a remind to do well at his job of taking care of you and the kids.

Anticipating feeding times, cleaning clothes and other accoutrements that accumulate in the house with four living people in it are just daily tasks by Kurono's standard. And they aren't back breaking labor and to him easy so he doesn't mind doing it all. He's got a massive lazy bone is the weirdest ways. Tending to the three or four o'clock feedings are dubbed easy by him because he'd much rather vibe with his kid in the middle of a dark room than go to work lets be honest. Plus at the end of a feeding he gets to crawl back into bed with you, not something he gets to do at work just because everything before noon was harder than he wanted to do.

Just like he's always been perceptive to your needs. That extends to the kids without much hassle for him. Meals are always made, albeit sometimes squishy. Nataku knows not to run away from Kurono on the walk to school, always holding his hand to the bus stop. And you looked so wonderfully peaceful in bed this morning he just decided to scoop up the little grub from it's crib and carrying it with him on his way to drop Nataku off.

The jingle of his little skull keychain matches the skulls on his now younger siblings onesie and Kurono's belt buckle. Curled up human grub against his semi wrinkled shirt but snug as to not drop them. And Kurono's constant scowl on his face. Other parents would be a little concerned seeing this man anywhere else. But as Nataku's already been going to school here for over a year, they're use to Kurono's quirks. You claim he's harmless though some of the parents aren't so sure about that. Still he drops off a very happy and bright child while coddling the little one in his arms.

They can think it's as creepy as they want to. Fact of the matter is Kurono gets the job done. Because if anything he's not going to fail at a job as easy as this. Parenting instead of going to work? It's a trade off he thinks of often but still likes the pay a little too much to give it up quiet yet. How else is he going to save up to buy you the perfect dream home and wow you when you're both old and frail and weak together for the rest of your lives.
