i need to post rescue, repressed/in denial jirv getting married then having a messy affair with hodge. Can you imagine. That he held out for so long! He made it back to Scotland and he even got married. he's doing his best to be the good Christian man he's suppose to be. Hodge is at the small wedding ceremony and he's a wounded bird but he's being so brave because this is what John wants. which means he doesn't want George. Even though, in the Arctic there had been times when he had thought maybe...but no of course not.

but then it's been a few months and hodge is traveling (he likes to keep on the move) and he stays a week with John. And they've both had a bit to drink . And it's like they're back there, in that cramped cabin again. leaning too close, almost touching. All those times where George was so sure they were close to something. And he was sure John could feel it too

"I'm glad you're here. how ive missed you, george." And it brings that awful sharp feeling of hope in the center of his chest. The glow of it used to keep him warm but now it grabs his throat and squeezes. It hurts. He goes to pull away

but John touches his hand. Holds it gently. "Let me confess that I've thought of you often in my new life here." His voice trembles and George grabs for his hand, holding it in both of his own. and then Irving kisses him! after all this time, it finally happens and Hodge wanted this more than anything and its the worst time and place . which is so horribly ironic because they are safe and warm and in a house and far away from the nightmare of the North. but its the worst time and place for this

I'm not exactly sure how I want to phrase this yet, but I think a lot of the utterly weird takes I see sometimes float by me on our cursed blue hellsite (esp when it comes to mdzscql fandom) is coming from a refusal to meet the genre where it's at.

Like, why are we trying to interrogate classism in MDZS society, MDZS is a romance, the societal worldbuilding is just enough to support some general big ideas and the provide context for the romance. We can't get ANY kind of read on general classim/sexism/anything else from. this source material. if you think you can get granular when your sample size of characters from various social and gender strata are so small and we don't know how the vast majority of people in here live you are making stuff up.

Like, meet the story where it's at: it's a romance novel.

Peak Gabv1el development (for me, at least) is when someone calls V1 an object and it's Gabriel who go off on this someone, like, he will not allow anyone to entertain that notion. This angle will defend V1's autonomy and sentience with his life.

I think it's sweet and it's a great way to show how far their relationship and bond (romantic or platonic) has gone. Gabriel going from calling them a thing to not letting anyone to call them that and even taking offence (probably more than them) to someone thinking of them like that? How can I not love this? He's the king of fast character development. XD

had a realization bear WITH me for the angst of it all-

i saw someone mention that hoyoverse has been keeping Sethos oddly relevant ever since he came out. obviously this made me realize, huh, yeah, they've brought him up a lot. his first appearance, the sabzeruz, wanderer's b-day art, and now he's gonna get a pose in the imaginarium theatre's next update. i honestly don't remember them keeping a 4-star relevant for this long.

which, y'know, obviously this would imply that hoyoverse has plans. which is when it hit me.

Sethos losing his piece of godly power mirrors Wanderer losing the electro gnosis. we all know this.

the next place we're going to is Nod-Krai, and we've been told that's Dottore's main base. Dottore specifically did a lot of experiments with dead god remains and all that- i will admit, i'm not an expert on this area, but like,

is. it not. really similar to what Sethos and Cyno got. is that not something Dottore would be interested in.

not to mention Sethos has like. a whole bunch of secret information that's been hidden from the rest of the world for an extended period of time.

am i crazy? am i insane? would they really make Wanderer get involved in the Nod-Krai arc by having Dottore/Dottore's men attack the Temple of Silence? or more specifically attack/kidnap Sethos??? i feel nuts. i feel insane. someone talk some sense into me-

y'know what we don't talk about enough? Hazel died. We talk about how she grew up in the 30's and 40's and we talk about how out of place she feels in the modern world, but! She died! She was dead! She has spent more time dead than alive, and not by a close margin!

How does that effect a person??? We got some of it in the flashbacks, but once those caught up with her present timeline and she shared them, they just kind of... disappeared. And she was a regular girl with some weird past experiences. That's one way of doing it, sure!

I think it would have been a lot cooler if she was just a touch creepier. If she felt a little bit Wrong. Yeah, in general she's more approachable than her brother, she's more sociable and less closed off, but. If you actually spend any time with her, it can be difficult to tell which child of the underworld is actually more unsettling.

Hazel is bright of personality and has a dazzling smile, but sometimes she'll just... shut down. She'll go completely blank for like half an hour and nobody knows what to do with it. Sometimes she forgets she's alive. Sometimes she'll spout the grimmest shit you've ever heard like it's nothing, she won't even notice it's weird until the room goes quiet. She spent decades in Asphodel, which is designed to make people forget about themselves and wander around for eternity, only she didn't have the luxury of forgetting! Wild! After she comes back to life, sometimes she forgets that she's allowed to Do Stuff now. She can spend so long sitting and staring at nothing. Sometimes she'll start crying on cloudless days because it hits her again that she can actually feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and she can hear birdsong. Every little mundane experience is a blessing and she will make you remember that in the most foreboding way possible.

i love mel's attitude towards chronos. every time it's like "are you finished talking? are you ready to shut the fuck up now?" like there's been a handful of times that he's left her genuinely shaken (glances at those asphodel visions) and i don't doubt he'll do it again but she's still just like holy shit. please stop talking forever.
