On That Day, Five Years Ago

This is based on OG more than anything, using updated Remake visuals. But, since I haven't finished Rebirth, any spoilers are from the original game. I have no idea what shenanigans they have for the climax of part 2 and all of part 3.

I always loved Mideel and finding out the True Flashback of what actually happened in Nibel. This moment, where Cloud is Just a Guy filled with a righteous fury, he has the strength to wield the Buster Sword, avenge his hometown (including everyone who didn't think much of him) and kill* Sephiroth.

I wanted to contrast just how weak Cloud is, how average, how utterly human; and how heavy the Buster Sword is... and duty, and honor, and sacrifice, and all the other meanings it's accumulated through time. And somehow, he has the strength to wield it.

I also wanted to give a twisted, holy vibe to the Nibel Reactor, with bundled wires hung like a vaulted ceiling leading to the altar and the sarcophagus of a false god.

*death doesn't seem to inconvenience him much, let's be real.

I just realized that Tifa's the only one with both mommy and daddy issues in FF7.

Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth all have mommy issue.

Rufus has daddy issue.

Zack is the only one with healthy living parents.

i JUST finished watched ff7 advent children (the full movie is available on youtube yall) and my god what an emotional rollercoaster.

sephiroth is menacing. i haven’t even played ff7 yet the moment his theme started playing i just had a super bad fight or flight instinct. “tell me what you cherish. allow me to have the honor of destroying” what an evil line, absolute chills. i don’t even remember the last time a villain scared me this bad.

i feel bad for the three remnants, even though they’re sephiroth’s pieces, they feel like children in their own way. and especially kadaj with the way he always goes “mother”, what a way to tug at my heartstrings man.

loving the character redesigns and weapon designs. reminds me so much of early 3 seasons RWBY weapon designs’ ‘everything can be a gun’ thing. yazoo’s sword/gun, loz’s punching glove that can electrocute, kadaj’s double bladed sword, the detachable swords of cloud and the way he keeps them in his motorbike. and yes, it did reawaken my love for motorbikes.

vincent is NOT beating the vampire allegations, rufus gagged me when he stood up, felt bad for reno and rude. poor guys were getting thrown around the whole movie lol

I’m sure the question has been asked before, but how do Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth fly with only one wing?? Seriously! These guys are just going whoooosh look at me I’ma kindergartner’s toy plane! and half of their flight mechanism is missing! That’s cheating! You can’t cheat aerodynamics! Where’s your honor, Angeal?? Huh?? You cheat on physics exams too?? And Sephiroth, Sephiroth should be all lopsided and doggy-paddling in the air, not making some grand American Idol entrance every time he shows his face!

(Can you imagine heheheh. Everyone glances up as ominous stormclouds fill the sky, dangerous wind brews, Latin music begins to play from nowhere. And then there’s just this distant screaming growing closer and closer until BOOM! There’s a 20ft crater at Cloud’s feet.)

In another world Sephiroth uses the wing to wrap around Zack when he has the shivers <333 It’s so toasty!

Only 10 Days til Crisis Core Reunion, 10 more til we get to watch Zack and Aerith's relationship blossom in glorious HD. T_T Zack would find any excuse to scoop her up in his arms while Aerith is simply entranced with his smile. 🥰☺️
