GIF REQUEST MEME: @nerdalmighty asked: ducktales + favorite familial relationship
Donald and Huey, Dewey, & Louie "Donald's tendency to lash out was wildly unfocused, until you kids came along. He came to me wanting to be the best parent he could, so we channeled that anger into protective instincts. Every outburst is Donald wanting to protect his family. He loves you so much, the thought of anything bad happening to you INFURIATES HIM!"

I still have some thoughts about the Phantom Blot in DT17. Read at your own risk.
So I posted a rant before about how I felt like the Blot was underutilized in animation and how despite being used in the recent Ducktales reboot, I feel like it was a missed opportunity.
Tbh while I am not the biggest fan of their Blot, I don't think they ruined him or anything. I think for what they wanted from him which was an enemy for Lena that would eventually join FOWL, he did a decent job. I just think it is a bit of a shame that, in my opinion, it didn't do a great job introducing the Phantom Blot to more viewers. I literally can speak from my own experience as I didn't really know much about him before and when I watched the show he didn't really stand out or seem interesting. He just kind if felt like a Thanos reference with the most interesting thing about him being the friendship he gains with Pepper. I even kind of feel this online as most conversations, at least what I see, about him in DT17, from others I assume aren't initially familiar with him, are less about him specifically and more about his friendship with Pepper. (And the friendship is good, I actually added Pepper in my fanfic for this reason. Though their relationship will be a bit different).
It wasn't until I watched a separate video that went over his comic and other appearances that I realized what a great villain he is. And that continues to grow as I read more about him. I read through Darkenblot which is also a new modern take on the character and I kind of wish we got this guy instead. Yeah they wouldn't be able to use him the same way as they used the other Blot. But I would love to see Scrooge figure out how to stop him. Again DT17 Blot isn't the worst, but he kind of feels like a different character and at least in my opinion, not a very interesting one. We seen the whole Bad guy who claims they are doing a good thing but aren't shtick a lot recently, especially with Marvel movies (which isn't helped that he has a Thanos glove)
However I did some thinking and I actually realized if the show were to go on longer and they ended up doing more with the Blot. There could be 3 reveals they could make that could make him a bit closer to his comic counterpart and perhaps a bit more interesting as a result. Not even changes, they could keep what they have and just make these reveals later. Maybe in a season where he is the main villain. The 3 reveals are:
1. He either completely lied about the village Magica destroyed or at least is exaggerating.
It seems like Magica doesn't 100% remember every detail about that situation, at least from what I remember when watching that episode, which gives flexibility to the Phantom Blot fibbing a bit. I could even see where it did happen, but it wasn't his village and he used it for a made up backstory. I feel like this brings an element that I feel like was lost in the DT17 show, which was his manipulation. The Phantom Blot is known for being a master manipulator who is able to trick people with lies or half-truths. He would totally make up a fake backstory to get people to side with him or feel empathy.
2. He actually plans to use the stolen magic for himself or at least will be a hypocrite about it
I kind of mentioned this before, but one issue I have with DT17 Blot is that he is at his core a fundamentally different character and that is solely due to the fact that he is a victim trying to get justice. There are many interpretations of Blot even in the comics, but most of them center on him being the threat due to his own greed or selfishness. He is not wronged, he is the one who wrongs. He does it out of choice rather than justice. So even at the core the DT17 Blot is in a different place than the others. And while I am not against trying a new take on the Blot or even trying to make him more nuanced, I just don't think it went anywhere interesting or really connected to the original.
I mentioned the Thanos comparison and it feels apt here as Thanos goals were more "obviously" selfish in the comics than the movies, and I think they tried to do the same. But Thanos still did the same actions even if his reasoning changed. But the Blot goals and actions are different from his previous iterations and tbh if they replaced him with a new character, no one would have thought that he should have been the Phantom Blot. I think emphasizing his selfishness and desire to have power all to himself or make him a hypocrite where he starts to use the magic for himself would connect better with the characterization of previous Blots.
3. Give him ulterior motives for "joining" FOWL
When I started to learn more about the Blot, I started to realize how weird it was for him to join FOWL. He has worked in teams before, but is usually a leader or at least an equal partner. And while I guess he part of the board. It still feels like he is still working under FOWL and wasn't really an active leader or part of the strategizing. And maybe it is because they didn't want him to outshine Bradford, but it made him feel lesser as a result. I can, however, buy that he is working for FOWL because there is something FOWL has or can access that he wants. Maybe he even plans to take over FOWL and predicted that Bradford and Black Heron would fail, leaving a power vacuum open. I just feel like something to really bring out not just his leadership but his strategic traits would really bring him closer to the other Blots. He seems more like the guy to give orders than take them as well as think 10 steps ahead.
But these are just my thoughts. Tbh I do think they probably had more plans for him but didn't get a chance to do it after being cancelled. But who knows maybe we'll get another piece of media that captures Blot at his best.
This is so long

this is old news but i am so glad paget brewster accidentally exposed the lies of the ducktales crew (mostly frank angones and matt whateverberg). they lied so much about the finale being “planned from the start” and that they “”knew”” that season 3 was their last season. continuinally said it wasn’t cancelled to everyone on twitter, but i always knew better. it basically was cancelled bc they weren’t renewed for a season 4, idk why they are so butt-hurt to admit it. i love my ducks, but ducktales genuinely left me so bitter because of everything (rushed ending, so many loose ends, bloated cast, events happening off-screen having to rely on word of god for way too many important events, and so much more). i don’t trust those men and i hope their egos were bruised from this news being released. ducktales was so great, but they fumbled the bag so much that i don’t even want to rewatch it anymore. thank god duck fans have comics and 86 years worth of donald duck content to enjoy.
#i would love to tag this#but meh#i don’t want die hard fans of dt17 to read and get mad at me#i hate frank angones there i said it#i will say that dt17 did a great job at integrating a lot of references to barks and rosa#and can be a great start for beginning duck fans to help them get familiar to what is in store#the only problem is ppl will watch it and not stray outside of duck content outside of dt17#i know that no della is a struggle but i luv luv love donald n the nephews they r so silly and epic!#ugh the female characters rlly are super good in dt17#ok i rambled a lot#i have a love/hate relationship w this show#it is awesome it written bad it made donald my one of my favorite character and they shelved him for everything#that’s a different thing to attack entirely#this got way too long

For the character ask meme, maybe Mirabel?? Or Isabela. (:
i'll do mirabel !! :vD
First impression: when the designs were first revealed i actually couldnt help but feel inclined to like her before i learned anything else abt the movie bc she looked JUST like a best friend of mine to me. then she gained extra points for sounding like dt17 gosalyn and being the kind of optimistic Odd Man Out of the family (which is the vibe i got from the synopsis + trailers)
Impression now: I LOVE HER SO MUUUUCH SHES SUCH A GOOD PROTAGONIST !!!!! her kind of quirkiness and impulsiveness feels very natural and makes her super endearing right off the bat, its pretty much immediately established how caring she is and how much she loves her family (when she gave that pep talk to antonio i was just like. Weeping), i like that we as an audience see her problems & insecurities and root for her but we also get to learn about the internal conflicts of her family members likes luisa and isabel thru her like coming to understand them herself which again ends up making her feel like a really well rounded protagonist !!! and i love her glasses. i used to wear glasses with frames like those when i was 8
Favorite moment: WHEN SHE'S TALKING TO ALMA AND SHE STANDS UP FOR NOT ONLY HERSELF BUT HER TWO SISTERS AND IN FACT THE REST OF THE FAMILY !!!!!!!! augh also when she tells bruno she's gonna bring him home Q_Q also very little moment but when the kids in the beginning ask her what her gift is and she says "who's asking ? >:3" its hard to pick just One
Idea for a story: i hear the director at least wants to make an encanto series which would be great but considering how everyone in town knows the madrigals id love to see like a day in town for her !!! maybe she could make some friends her age that would be sweet
Unpopular opinion: if anyone thinks she should have gotten a gift at the end after all did you and i not watch the same movie. also i dont think she was "too quick" to forgive anybody isabela and alma included again Did We Watch The Same Movie
Favorite relationship: UGHH AGAIN SO HARD TO CHOOSE !!!! the scenes she has with her parents were literally so sweet like all the ones where they try to cheer her up (julieta insisting she healed her hand with Love For Her Daughter and agustin trying to relate to her with how he felt when he first joined the family) but i also really really loved her and bruno so much 🥺🥺🥺 bonding as the family "weirdos" getting along pretty much instantly both of them going to bat for the other in front of alma especially like... i really like their dynamic their scenes were so funny and entertaining and heartwarming
Favorite headcanon: the bi flag colors rainbow she has embroidered probably wasnt supposed to be an intentional thing but that wont stop me. mirabel bi now

What your thoughts on the lgbt representation in dt17. As a straight person that support the lgbt I think they did alright but they were restricted by Disney. Like violet parents really didn’t have personality and just appeared in one episode. Penny should have ended with della since della is the only duck from the original trio that didn’t have a on screen kiss like Scrooge and Donald. Della have good relationship with penny. When entertainment weekly said magica going to be a lgbt icon they really didn’t do much with it except when she didn’t like it when Gladstone hold her. I don’t blame the crew since they work with Disney. Just what to hear your thoughts.
what LGBT representation nghgng This got long so
Okay so. I don’t go to a Disney show expecting to be represented I just do not trust Disney. Even when they said Violet had two dads I wasn’t sure if I should expect them to even be shown on screen.
But still, times are different from when I was a kid and there have been great leaps when it comes to representing gay and even trans experience in media and even kids’s shows
And when it comes to how DT17 handled it it’s not impressive in the year 2021 nghgn it would have maybe been acceptable ten years ago
Like I said I didn’t go in expecting anything (def not them doing anything with established characters) but I am also not going praise this piss-poor attempt and I think it’s frustrating Disney got attention for including Violet’s dads who were not characters! They didn’t even have lines!!!
Penny being a lesbian barely counts her line about not wanting to date Launchpad was so weird it wasn’t even the usual ‘I am not into men’ which fictional lesbians are allowed to say to sort of imply they are gay without using the spoopy L word. Penny and Della don’t have much of a relationship (which is a problem a lot in this show tbf) and none of it is romantically coded
Magica in the comics is much more queer than she is in the show, she is allowed to be more weird with gender lot of the time (like taking on a male form with magic tho I could say a lot overall about the representation of gender in DT17 vs the comics.... an another post perhaps) and there are even some hints at least in some comics she is into women... In the show she is made to represent homophobic family which I am :/ about but I’d be fine with it if they at least were way more explicit about the actual queer storyline in the show!!!
IMO, Lena is the best queer character in the show and she is not allowed to be explicitly so. But there is enough there that I am sure at least some people in the creative team were actively writing Lena/Webby as romantic and saw Lena’s journey as a queer narrative.
Magica is Lena’s abusive ‘biological’ parent who has a clear image of what Lena should be and tries to mold her into this image, but Lena rebels and finds a new family, she is adopted by an explicitly gay couple and loved by her friends, especially Webby. Webby/Lena is extremely easy to read as them being baby lesbians and the scene in the Night on Killmotor Hill where Webby saves Lena with her tears is the scene that made me go ‘okay this is definitely not all me reading gay into things at least some people who are making this are intending this as romantic’ because of how Webby’s tears fall on Lena’s ‘lips’ and this is the thing that saves her from Magica’s evil magic. The implication of it being a magical fairytale kiss is not an accident, animating it like that was a conscious decision someone made.
It’s very possible it wasn’t originally intended to be gay and I kinda suspect the decision was made to not write romance for any of the kid characters but it did become a thing to some extent (and was then dialed back and the finale made sure to go ‘SISTERS!!!’)
If they actually wanted to give rep and make Webby memorable, make Weblena canon tbh. You don’t even need to ship them as kids just have the same thing happen that already did happen in DT87 but replace Doofus with Lena;
they travel to the future or have a vision of future and Lena and Webby are married. There.
But of course they would have not done this. They never even had Lena’s plotline really in the show when it comes to the whole ‘becoming a part of Violet’s family’ bit. They had some references to it apparently but they were cut and Violet’s dads were not characters. I am not going to speculate on guilt and how much the creative team (or specific creators) tried to put in representation and it was all Disney stomping all over it, but COME ON. You’re telling me they managed to put Violet’s two dads in but it was totally impossible to have them speak? Have them hug their daughter and give them a few seconds of dialogue where they and their relationship to at least their daughter is characterized at all?? Maybe have them hug Violet and Lena stands there kinda awkward and they take her into the family hug and reassure her she is part of the Sabrewing family???
This show had issues with fitting everything they wanted in overall but what scenes and relationships were prioritized was a choice.
They sure had time to put in a scene in S2 where LP hits on Penny. That sure was a choice :)
I know some people expected Drakepad to be canon idk why... LP’s bisexuality is... I would not call it canon. There is one jokey implication in the show I would have been impressed by in the 90′s lmao
TLDR: I did not expect anything so I am not disappointed, not going to praise this piss-poor attempt tho

You know i think DT17 suffered for a similar reason OUAT suffered, too many characters and too many higher profile people cast in important roles.
I don’t like to think about OUAT. It was just...it deteriorated at the end. I can say DT17 did not deteriorate and who knows what would’ve happened had we gotten S4.
I understand why people argue that Webby being his clone daughter doesn’t change anything between her and Beakley.
I want to counter that things did change between the boys and Donald when Della returned. The show did not do a good job at showing or attempted to show a healthy coparenting relationship between the two, choosing to focus on their relationship as siblings rather than parents to the boys.
Let’s go further that the primary parent towards the end was Della. It seemed like the show was slowly transitioning Donald from Uncle Dad to just an Uncle. Any parenting seen onscreen was shown mainly from Della onto one of the boys. We lost out a lot on the Donald moments.
I would venture to say May and June were meant to reconcile that a bit for him. The finale showed a side of Donald that was reminiscent of his shorts, Quack Pack and other portrayals in relation to the boys. It was funny to see him roll up the window on Dewey and Louie, but it didn’t really seem like something Donald DT17 would do. Certainly when he heard Huey was kidnapped...
He rolled his eyes. A big departure from the infuriated, terrified parent when he discovered his kids were kidnapped by the Beagle Boys. Was it growth? I’d say yes, but I don’t know how I feel about it exactly. Fortunately, Donald went straight to “To adventure” to save Huey and the world, but I digress.
So yeah, May and June were meant to reconcile that side for Donald. Scrooge seemingly has zero interest in them, and they have no one else. Donald wouldn’t have to share May and June with anyone except Daisy, who really deserved more than she got in this show. She really should’ve appeared in season one as Glomgold’s assistant.
So I reckon had S4 gone on as planned we either would’ve gotten the reveal at the end of that season, moved into watching Scrooge and Webby’s dynamic change but not so much see Scrooge and Beakley coparenting healthily. Or we may have seen more than what we got from Donald and Della.
I will add the papyrus reacted to Webby due to her bond and blood connection to Scrooge, but the point is blood still matters. It absolutely matters if you’re going to be as great as Webby. It means you have to be related to Scrooge, really really related and that is an insult to the found family trope the show claims it was built on.
She was already family. Why did she need to be Scrooge’s clone too? Why did she get to be his Webby darling after she was revealed to be his daughter?
So sorry, this became a tangent on Donald’s and to a lesser extent, Daisy’s treatment in the show.

So, uh, that DT17 finale huh?
I would've made this right after I watched the finale, but I wanted to give it a bit of time to sink in fully and made sure I thought everything through before giving my thoughts on it. Not the worst finale there is, but it definitely could've been way better in my opinion. I've heard about the finale from my friends who've seen it, which from the sounds of it I already wasn't liking it, but since I've seen the finale now, how I feel about it is now concrete and set in stone and I feel the same as before. Maybe how I feel about it is in the minority side, or maybe a majority side, I dunno but I don't care. It's not the best it could've been and I'll explain why below. If you like it, good for you I guess because everyone's tastes are different, but I personally don't and I feel like the show deserves a much better finale than this. HEAVY DUTY DISCLAIMER: Just because I'm criticizing the finale doesn't mean I don't love the series, in fact it's because I love the show that I'm giving criticism and give what I would’ve done instead, and if you're anything like me and you're hella late to the party then there'll be spoilers for the finale. If you haven't caught up on the last episode, then you're not missing much honestly, but if you don't like spoilers regardless then watch that first then come back
The first part of the finale starts off like any other DuckTales 2017 episode. It's Webby's birthday, everyone's keeping their eyes out for F.O.W.L. shit, and Webby's enjoying herself. After a bit everyone goes below Funso's and they end up in F.O.W.L.'s territory. F.O.W.L. sets everything up to be on self-destruct, so they gotta find them and stop the self-destruction. They did happen to do the latter, but the F.O.W.L. members already escaped with almost everything. Just almost. The gang end up finding May and June, who're clones and they presume they're clones of Webby. Now this is where I'm starting to not like the finale. Yeah, you can do clones as like a plot twist, but at the same time it feels a bit outta nowhere. Had they foreshadowed it in another episode or have it lead up to the whole "oh shit there's clones of a character we know and love" thing then I wouldn't have a problem, but this came outta nowhere and I kept an eye on possible foreshadowing during season 3 and the rest of season 2 post The Duck Knight Returns too so I would've picked something up. The only thing that could count as foreshadowing was when Beakley promised Webby that she won't keep anymore secrets from her and the harp was saying "fibbing fibbing fibbing", but that's just it. Part two of the finale, Gyro does tests on them to see who they might've been clones of. He tries to tell everyone what the results are but when Scrooge asks him, he said it didn't come up with anything for him to answer the question. Beakley thinks they're both dangerous and locks them up in a closet. Webby, being a naive little girl, wants to talk to them because they're essentially her 'sisters' and she wants to know them more even though Beakley straight up tells her not to interact with them. Webby disregards what Beakley says anyways and she frees them, talks to them, and tries to show them her family tree so they can figure out where May and June came from. May and June are basically like "ehhhh this is your family tree? Who tf are you related to besides Beakley?" yeah, as if extended family or found family still ain't family you jerks. In the meantime, Louie just wants to watch his Ottoman Empire finale which ends up being shitty foreshadowing for the last part of this finale. You'll see why I mentioned this later. They even see Lena and Violet on there and are like "okay but who're those" which Webby responds with how they're her best friends and guess what one of the two clones goes to do? One of them grabs scissors and tries to cut it. When she does cut it, Lena's like "aw hell no bitch" and uses magic on her. Webby being Webby, is completely upset about this because "that was my sister how could you do that" and runs off like how one of the clones ran off. Bitch you only knew her for like five seconds, just because y'all be related don't mean you automatically THIS close to each other like how you are with Lena, Violet, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and anybody else in the McDuck family. I personally believe that love, trust, and respect is what makes people family, not blood/DNA, adoption, or they were married into the family or a step sib/kid/etc. If they're a harmful dick (i.e. a bigot who's queerphobic and/or racist or if they're an abuser, murderer, etc.) then you don't gotta treat them like family or say that they're your family. But anyways we're probs getting off topic, point is that she should trust those who she's known forever instead of clones she knew for a few minutes. Everybody tries to find Webby and one of the clones that ran off. Webby bumped into Beakley as she was tryna find May or June (I think May tho, don't recall) and she tries to lie her way outta it but Beakley knows what's up lol. She says that Webby wants to see the clones, Webby goes with it, and the younger duck wants to know who her parents were. Beakley tells her who her parents were (which might've either been a lie or she was describing herself and a late significant other that we've seen in Webby's picture of her parents) and Webby accepts it. Cut to later when she catches May and June trying to steal the ancient artifacts that Scrooge and co. retrieved during the entirety of season 3. She's shocked that they're even doing this, they all fight each other, and May escaped while June got knocked out. Webby disguises herself as June while she takes her outside where F.O.W.L. awaited them with an aircraft, most importantly Bradford. We only find out Webby was disguising herself as June when everyone got on. Huey notices what's going on and he goes after them, somewhat hiding in the aircraft before everyone leaves for the F.O.W.L. hideout. Not gonna lie, that was a pretty smart plan by Webby. Considering they all look identical and Webby's good at imitation, she can actually get away with this pretty well. This I actually really like and I wouldn't change too much about this. When Huey reveals himself to the three, Webby reveals herself to him but tells him to play along so they ain't fucked over. Somewhat worked. Webby keeps making little slips here and there which makes May hella suspicious of her. They land at the hideout, Webby tries to get what info she can while Huey's taken away. Thanks to the help of Pepper (who I love btw and I think deserves the best ;____;), Webby ends up finding the document room where there's documents on May, June, and a third person with the codename of April. She watches it and oh, shit, it turns out Bentina Beakley actually snatched her ass from F.O.W.L. when she was a baby! What a shocker! She couldn't believe what she was seeing! This is actually fine to me, her possibly being a clone actually makes sense because she could've been a clone of Beakley. Plus it's also a huge reference to how Webby was created to be a combination of Daisy's nieces April, May, and June back in the original series, though I dunno how many people would catch that, especially younger fans who might not have done the research to getting all of the references and easter eggs here. When Beakley was brought in (essentially she knocked Scrooge out without hurting him, went to here alone to take care of F.O.W.L. once and for all just for Webby, but got defeated along with some of the McDucks), everyone leaves Beakley, Webby, and the Harp alone and Webby somewhat confronts Beakley about her past. Needless to say, Webby ain't excited about this and she gets captured and tied up. She's actually pretty depressed, which I mean in a way I don't blame her since she wanted to know if that shit was real or if F.O.W.L. was fabricating it. Cut to Huey being brought to Bradford. Apparently he was a fellow Woodchuck too, though he wasn't the best despite being the very first Woodchuck by his grandmother Isabella Finch, in fact he was the worst which hahaha yeah I can actually believe that. It does explain why he hates adventures and all of that shit, one of the only things I'm willing to accept from the finale. He talks about how he wants to complete the collection "for the better" because Scrooge and everyone else in the family were the only ones to have Isabella's lost journal. Huey believes this at first. He stops believing it once he ends up finding Gyro and everyone else who're locked up. In the meantime, Bradford drags Webby out to a sort of box along with May and June. She doesn't know why she's brought up here. When she gets close to the box, the papyrus appears because... She's the descendant of... Of Scrooge McDuck. Okay no, JUST NAH MAN. This is where my biggest issue in the finale lies, the fact that she's a clone/made from Scrooge's DNA and is technically his "daughter". Not everybody has to be related to Scrooge McDuck to be great, in fact doing this to her actually ruins Webby's character. Her trope is "found family," not "I'm secretly part of the family this whole time and not even I knew it" and this fucks with it so badly. This show is about family, and all different kinds of it. Being taken care of by your uncles/aunts instead of your parents but still having a good relationship, some kids don't have parents and they're gone for whatever reason, being loved and accepted by other family members, some families are awful and abusive, hell some families have two same sex/gendered parents with a kid who's def adopted and one might've been adopted or been from a previous relationship, and it's also how sometimes we find people to call family because we found them and they found us. Webby was the one to fill in the finding those to find family alongside her grandma, but I feel like they're disregarding that just to have a huge plot twist. Again aside from Beakley keeping secrets from Webby, there was no foreshadowing and it makes a previous episode from season two (Nightmare on Killmotor Hill) seem kinda creepy in hindsight since she's over here wanting to be Scrooge himself, and creepy overall due to how obsessive she was over the whole McDuck family in general. You could say it's foreshadowing this whole time, since some people might actually be like this before realizing that "oh hey I'm actually related to this person" due to someone being adopted, given to someone else to take care of, divorce and each parent keeps one of the kids and they don't meet again until way later in life, which in a way is a fair point but at the same time not everyone's gonna notice this even when they look back at the previous episodes. If you're gonna do foreshadowing and a plot twist, you have to do it where looking back everyone can notice little details, not just a certain group of people, and you gotta make sure it's good. Every plot twist has it's foreshadowings, and every good one has a good amount for people to take a guess. Every bad plot twist, however, is either forced in just to shock the viewers or has shitty foreshadowing that's either extremely little or none. I will make a comparison between this and Steven Universe (which if you're still watching or haven't touched yet but haven't gotten up to season five, please skip this part to avoid spoilers for the show) because in Steven Universe, there were PLENTY of hints and foreshadowing that Rose Quartz was actually Pink Diamond and it was even a theory too that Rose was actually Pink, alongside a theory that Pearl was actually the one to shatter Pink Diamond and not Rose which ended up being true in a way that both fits. This was a good plot twist that everyone can watch the show from start to end once again and notice every little bits of details that led up to that plot twist reveal. (End of SU spoilers) This, however, isn't a good plot twist. It's a terrible one and, again, forced in, messy, and there's not enough foreshadowing that can be used to be like "oh I kinda saw that coming" or "oh shit!" and think it's a genuinely good twist. Also the fact that Webby called Scrooge "Dad" T W I C E in the finale, it doesn't sound right, I even voiced out loud that OH EW THAT DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT WHY ARE YOU CALLING HIM DAD THIS IS GROSS STOP IT LIKE JUST CALL HIM UNCLE SCROOGE LIKE YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE- Oh and this is meant to be a throwback to that Ottoman Empire finale foreshadowing thing from earlier btw lol The last few things I can note about this is the fight between Scrooge and Bradford, where the latter reveals that he was the one to tell Della about the Spear of Selene (which pisses Scrooge off so damn BADLY and it's the other thing I can accept from the finale, it seems like Bradford to do that shit), and the fact that Donald almost died for fucking good due to Bradford pushing his ass into a machine that can erase anything and everything from existence when put in there. He did so with his minions, so he has no qualms about doing so to Scrooge's family unless he signed the papyrus as a contract. Not that it worked anyways, since "family is the greatest adventure of all" which Bradford didn't understand one bit lol But the finale? Not good, the show deserved so much better and Huey deserved way better because this was his season. What I would've done differently is mainly how Webby is a "clone" or whatever you want to call her. It makes no sense for all of her DNA to be from Scrooge McDuck, which raises way too many questions. Why not Beakley? Why not a warrior from F.O.W.L. with a mix of McDuck DNA? Why is Webby a girl while Scrooge isn't? You could argue that oh he might be a trans guy, which while I absolutely LOVE trans and nonbinary headcanons (due to the fact I'm a nonbinary woman myself), it just feels like a cheap escape goat of an excuse to explain that and Scrooge being trans because of that? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh it doesn't feel right to me. If it was a combination of him and Beakley, then okay I'd get why she's like that, but it still has the problem of her being related to the family DNA-wise. Same with the clones honestly. Now what I would do differently is make it where she's a clone of someone (def not Scrooge) and make it where she has an identity-existential crisis. Who is she really? Is she this "April" character, or if she Webby like she's always known herself as her whole life? In the end, she accepts that she's herself, Webby Vanderquack, granddaughter of Bentina Beakley and an ally of Scrooge McDuck. May and June, on the other hand, are possibly failed attempts to recreate Webby, the perfect clone, in order to get the papyrus to appear which in of itself never stated it had to be a DIRECT heir to Scrooge McDuck (it just states that it requires an heir of Scrooge McDuck) like a daughter/son or whatever. You can go back to the episode "The First Adventure" to look at the papyrus if you want, but he wrote that it was to an HEIR not a descendant. It heavily supports how they changed a shit ton of things before the last season being this year instead of idk, try to make it better because they finished voicing the lines in January this year when they started doing season three around the time we got season two. Bradford gets frustrated, wondering how it couldn't have worked because HE HAS WEBBY RIGHT HERE. What he didn't realize was that it could've been someone within the family itself, one who's considered the smart one out of the bunch that wasn't Scrooge McDuck himself, someone who's also a fellow Junior Woodchuck. And that would be Hubert Duck, in which season three is meant to be his season. When he gets close, the papyrus appears but Bradford snatches it and runs off with it so he can finish up that contract he's spent FOREVER to make and force Scrooge to write his name there. As with May and June, I dunno what I would do with them, but if I rewrite the finale at some point (which I would be doing now with my mom, who watched the finale with me because we tend to watch stuff a lot, but I can't at the moment because I have a list of stuff to make and I can't afford to make it longer than it already is along with my WIP list) I'll figure out what to do with them. Overall, the finale is a 4 out of 10 for me. Not horrible enough for it to be the worst finale ever in the history of shows/series, but it's definitely got a lot of things that bothered me too much to genuinely enjoy it without getting stuck on something for too long. Again if you like it, good for you, but personally? It should've been much better and the series deserves a proper finale. If there's no surprise movie to make it better, then I'ma just pretend this finale doesn't exist like nah bye bitch dunno you lmao Besides with how messy this finale is, I hope you guys enjoyed reading my thoughts on it and I hope you guys have a great day

Hello friend!) I'd love to hear your opinion about the DT final. Personally, I'm very happy. Don and Daisy take May and June with them on a trip. Which already suggests that there may be some reboot of the KP. And they will be family. As in the original. And after all, the comic canon, in which Daisy was May and June's aunt (not counting Webby / April), she will remain their aunt, just in a slightly different capacity) With the prospect of becoming their mother with Donald! The comic universe and the main universe have really come together! DT team workin very well!)
Hello too. Also, we haven't heard from each other for a long time. And yes you probably meant QP (not KP), I mean Quack Pack reboot? I'm glad you're happy about that. But my opinion on Ducktales reboot?
Yes, I watched the finale of that series. I don’t know if you’re going to like this that I’m going to say this now, but I have to say utterly disappointing. I expected a lot of good things from Ducktales 2017, but watching that series, I realized that it wasn’t for me. On one occasion, I will give my overview of all this, as well as the critique of the end of that series.
Still, I have to admit that the Ducktales 2017 did better than the original Ducktales in one thing. And that is that they portrayed Donald as a family man (although this is not the first time), as well as the introduction of Daisy Duck, where she was not in the original Ducktales, unfortunately. Yes, one of the few positive things for me, is that Donald adopted May and June Duck and that he will take Daisy as his wife and I agree with you about that. But again there is something that made me very sad, and that is that after all Donald Duck did not get his proper good treatment in his family, but leaving with Daisy and his two adopted daughters may be a compensation to make Donald feel better. As well as the fact that Donald became avoided by his nephews, whom he took care of for more than 10 years. I don’t know, maybe it supposedly didn’t show up, but since Ducktales focused less on Donald and his parenting, as well as his relationships with his nephews, it made me very sad. Yet Donald, though not biologically, is their real parent. As for Daisy Duck, I expected a little more from her, not just to be Donald’s girlfriend. Okay, she became a mother, but somehow I feel sorry for her, because after all AMJs have always been a part of her, and this is how she got through Donald, I mean May and June. All in all, maybe it's best to explain, when I publish my post or critique about this, but I must say that I was very disappointed, not only at the end of that series, but also in the whole series.
Hm, Quack Pack reboot you say? It may be, but we don't know exactly, I only know that there will be a Darkwing Duck reboot soon. All in all, a good idea and I would love to see Donald with Daisy and adopted daughters May and June go on a cruise around the world because Donald really deserved it. Although the Quack Pack is not the same, when his nephews are not there. If you ask me, I would like the Quack Pack reboot to have nothing to do with the Ducktales 2017 universe, but to be based on comics and for the main characters to be Donald, Daisy and their children, I mean Huey, Dewey and Louie and April, May and June Duck and to deal with their relationships as well as the dynamics themselves in the Duck family. Of course, Donald's friends and his relatives could join in that series. Of course, that's just my idea. But I said that, for the reason that I can’t imagine Donald without his boys, as well as Daisy without her girls, yet Donald and Daisy are great parents for them, mostly mostly for almost all Duckverse universes.
I don't agree that DT17 writers respect originality, because they turned almost all the characters in DT17 into OC, including AMJ, who became Scrooge's daughters. It is not clear to me why they did that. But still, as I said earlier, as you mentioned, it’s good that Donald has become a dad, but for May and June and that Donald and Daisy are together. But again, I can't cover my dissatisfaction and great disappointment with that series. Still, I know there are other alternative directions instead of DT17, such as The Legend of the Three Caballeros, Mickey Mouse shorts and comics in which Donald, Daisy, nieces and nephews are always together and that makes me happy.
Sorry my friend for this, there are just things I don’t like there, but certainly like you, I’m glad Donald and Daisy are together. I respect your opinion and I partially agree with you and we are glad that you are happy about this. I hope you will continue, there will probably be more Donsy in various media in the near future. ;)

I also really don't like how DT17 deals with the female characters, they have added way too many characters that just make it hard to keep track of them all, and it just feels silly like ohhh shes badass B)
in itself i don’t think adding female characters and in general characters to the overall lore is bad. well i talked a lot about it already but to me when all the women you write are the boss girl archetype it’s not great..and even when they aren’t, once again the show is so bloated there’s no time to do anything interesting with them so in the end you just do them a big disservice.. like introducing pepper so late into the series means she will just be a plot device to help blot moves to the Good Side, or she will have some sort of relevance on her own but since she arrived so late, and so suddenly, the audience won’t have the time to get attached to her so ultimately whatever happens it won’t matter but also i accepted that nothing in ducktales matter if not fast fusing gags, and that della and daisy will not be given the care they deserved, that any emotional stake is conveniently ignored for the sake of um. yelling girls doing kung fu i guess... so that della will not genuinely connect with her brother, that the matilda/scrooge conflict from the emotionally charged “a letter from home” is just uh,, “family fights all the time it’s normal:)” etc etc. it’s like.. flat and one note and doesn’t have anything interesting to say and literally every other cartoon do women better nowadays funnily enough (grumpy grandpa has something positive to say for once) i feel it’s a good thing in the latest episode they added women to the mcduck clan ; first their design fit pretty well with the well known ancestors from don rosa’s tree. secondly, most of the ancestors barely have backstory if none at all so i feel as Characters Of The Week, the mcduck women fitted very nicely
(EDIT: wait i wrote too much in the tags i’ll add it here)
(the thing is. ducktales takes a lot from stories (og dt and comics) that feels very... Boys Club. so i will never blame them for adding female characters because i WANT female characters in duck media. in terms of comics i so wish someone made comics focusing on matilda and hortense's youth instead of comic number 8451166451212 about scrooge’s past days in the klondike. its just that in DT17 the execution is not great and their idea of a Strong Female Character is completely off the way they ‘adapt’ existing characters by removing them completely from their context, change their appearance, personality, relationships, role in the story etc is not great and often i just think they shouldn’t have..bothered at all because in the end it’s lost screentime that could have gone into fleshing out the main cast. even characters like gladstone, fethry, well matilda too. were not necessary (they could have been as say, character of the week if the show didnt have a hundred other things to take care of first haha) watching the matilda episode i was thinking... “why did they add her at all. wow this matilda acts more like brigitta than she acts like matilda. weird”
#dt staff tricked into writing brigitta.. brain moment#when i think about correctly adapted character from one verse to another#i think of gladstone and gladstone only. they write him good. lucky on a meta level

this looks like fun! [I can’t seem to find the og poster but i got it from @lizzaroona]
September 1st: Favourite s1 episode?
Honesty a super hard pick, and i think there are better episodes in the season but the one i go back too most often is ep 10 “The Sear of Selene”
It just has some of the best character moments (for me) and is truly funny and interesting. And has some real insight into Donald and Dewey’s feelings about Della and her being gone. we saw glimpse of this in ‘dime chase’ and ‘woo-woo/Atlantis’ but here we actually see the pain Della left in her wake. And what it means going forward.
Plus stokeulse is a big sweet boi and i love watching him and Donald ‘re-connecting’ speaking of witch it is also the frist time Scrooge and Donald have a form of re-connection to
“just like old times ah lad”
look at that face.
its a strong ep and lead the way for bigger ‘emotional hits’ down the line (the last crash of the sun chaser)
September 2nd: Favourite triplet?
I don’t really have one as they are all fleshed out and well rounded, that being said I am looking forward to more of Huey this season. But i don’t have a fav.
September 3rd: Favourite member of team magic
Webby, but i don’t know if that counts as she is main cast so i see her more often then any other Team Magic characters. The girl is fun and filled with so much love and she is to be feared. and I love her faults to she is awkward and hyper-fixated on Mcduck history to the point that its scary. and is a fun loving social shut in.
She is just so multifaceted and complex that i love her with all my heart.
September 4th: favourite three caballeros
I am bias on this one as i love José Oliveira (the og José) and anything involving that funky little parrot makes me happy. But in DT17 I do love that there is elements of that Og Jose in his characterisation
like in s2 ep 4
when he calls over and hugs Donald (so sweet), and that he knows how to claim Donald down so fast (by making him dance and then getting him to sing) and to my knowledge he is the only one to do this in the whole show not just once but twice, so it shows that he has a deep understanding of Donald that most just don’t, and i have always loved that about their friendship.
plus from what i can tell from that ep as well it was Jose’s idea to meet up and he planned the trip (as he payed for it) so the fact he made arraignments for Panchito, Donald and THE BOY’S (+ scrooge) shows how much Jose really loves his friends, and plays an umbrella as an trumpet.
September 5th: favourite ep of season 2
This was a hard one as most of the eps knock it out of the park, but i’m going to have to go with, ep 16 “the Duck Knight Returns” its just such a good ep and has so many wonderful layers to it, and i was actually caught of guard with the final Jim Starling twist. like i can’t even remember the lat time a twist hit me that hard (i got side swiped) I actually had to sit in silence for a solid minute or two and then watch the whole ep again.
they wasted no detail big or small in this ep (like that Jim was already wearing an unbuttoned DW suit and had the hat in the box next to him, or the sound drake made being thrown into the bathroom just like og DW, and the meta jokes and the animation, the whole ep just went so hard)
and it was a really fun way to ‘pass the torch’ from one actor to another, especially playing with the idea of someone just not being done with the character yet and not wanting to let go, (as a lot of audiences have that issue, with re-boots and relaunches, and especially when a version of a character has an unfinished story left, think Andrew Garfield’s spider-man for e.g.)
i could honesty talk forever about this ep but i’ll spare you all.
September 6th: favourite hug?
Honesty its a three way tie...
1) Scrooge and Della when she first comes home. Just they way he scoops her up like a kid and holds her tight, makes my heart full.
2) this one with Louie, just the mother son embrace was really earned here.
3) and this one with Jose and Donald, its rare we see Donald so happy to see anyone (who is not his family) and just how naturally he ran into his arms was so nice. And Jose dropping his umbrella right away show how he knew what was coming. Plus i am a big fan of men showing their love and friendship in sweet fun ways like this, so a win for non-toxic masculinity here.
September 7th Gizmoduck or Darkwing duck?
this is a hard one as i do like both of these hero boy’s and i have talked about how they have conflicting views of their own success through the other (basically, Drake has is personal life together, but Fenton has his hero life together, and i think it would be a point of envy for both characters) And I love Fenton and Drake for different reasons, but at their core they are somewhat the same just two people who want to help others for no other reason then it is the right thing to do.
And i Love what the show has done for both characters but...I will have to give it Drake by a fraction of a hair (feather?).
As unlike Fenton I only needed one ep to be 100% on board with Drake and i know everything i need to know about him from that. As DW had a whole ass show for a reason and that one ep showed it. As Fenton is a wonderful character and he is a very well done character, but one of his defining traits is that he is all over the place (like in his life, work, the way he specks ect) but that can get messy from time to time as it can be hard to be ‘on board’ with someone with no clear ‘goal’ persay (they did cover most of this in “who is Gizmoduck” but some of it still lingers now that can be a tiny bit jarring at times) But like that is SUPER Neat-picky, tho.
And Drake has that chaotic feral energy that Fenton just don’t have (Fenton has more Bi panic energy), but Drake also has tired dad energy (like how he growls at GD in moonvation and when he calls to LP before the set explodes) and i love that about him.
Get this man his Gosalyn already so he can be the dorky dad he is destined to be.
September 8th: Favourite duck cousin?
I’m going to have to go with Gladstone, because he is a HUGE prick, but in a way he is not fully aware of. He is generous (he literally offers the boy’s a bucket of diamonds, just because they came by)
And I love that half hazard nature about him, he is true neutral, things just happen to him and for him and he just takes it, and that is actually really interesting, (don’t get me wrong i love Fethry, Della and Donald) but Gladstone is such a wild card in the duck/mcduck family when compared to everyone else that its a nice change of pace from the rest in a way (all of them good hearted and well meaning people) I generally have no idea what he might do when presented with an actual problem/ choice, so to see that will be fun and this crews take on Gladstone in that regard.
As i think out of all the cousins he has the most growing/changing to do.
September 9th: favourite ship?
Ok here is the thing.
in general fandom
I don’t really have any strong feelings about most ships one way or the other. I think a lot are nice and I enjoy seeing others enjoy themselves and all the wonderful art and time they put into it. That being said out of all my years of being in fandoms I have had a grand total of 5-10 ships i am super passionate about and that is over the span of 10+ years.
and one of the things i love the most about ducktales is how much it focuses on family love and pure platonic friendships (for both kid and adult characters). And that makes my ace heart happy. So basically I’m saying is I have no strong feelings about most ships in general beyond “aww” or “man i love how much the fandom loves them” and “that is some great art/ fic / creative output I’m happy for them.”
But with that out of the way, the question at hand.
I’m going to have to go with Donald and Daisy, as from a writing sand point it was so well done and sweet and cute. And it gave a new perspective on a relationship that has been around for 70+ years, so that was impressive all on it’s own, and it is going to be a loving, interesting relationship going forward.
September 10th: Favourite season 3 episode
I am going to assume that this is out of the 7 eps so far (duh), which again is hard cause this show is just so damn good. But I would have to say it is ep 6 “Astro B.O.Y.D”
now cue story of me as a kid in 3...2...1...
when i was a kid, I was obsessed with Astro boy, i was maybe 6 years old and i loved it. I was a relatively poor kid so in the early/mid 2000′s i would get a lot of my reading/watching materials from my local library. This included 4 VSH tapes of Astro boy episodes for the 80′s series and i would watch the 2003 anime dub on Saturday mornings TV (one ep a week if that), The library also had the first 2 vols of the og manga that i read so many times that i could probably re-sight it from memory. anyway, the reason i love astro boy so much was because it gave me a feeling i had not felt in my young life before that point, even if i did not full understand it at the time.
Its a feeling i still can’t fully put into words, but i will do my best. Astro boy goes right for the heart in every way possible, but it always twist the knife when it goes for, grief, regret and longing agony. specifically when in looks at lost love, usually platonic love (Tobio and Tenma e.g), the feeling these story’s gave me was the complexity of pain that losing love can bring, but it is most effective because it is through the lens of a child (astro/ tobi) and an innocent, loving child at that. The child is (somewhat) untouched by the tragedy (via memory loss) but is still shaped by the love that was put into them, despite the grief's overall out come (the abandonment of said child). So the feeling is a bitter-sweetness that comes from a place of innocents but also personal understanding of the self Astro was made by Tenma, but he was not what tenma made him to be (his lost son) but astro became his own person who loves and is loved by others, and is a whole person on his own outside of what he was made for (and is in a way still A son to tenma just NOT Tobi). and there is that sense of a child just wanting to be heard and understood for who they ARE and not what others what them to be, regardless of their “potential” (in other words personal choice’s and passions that the child actually wants for themselves)
I just love Astro Boy ok...and i never get a chance to talk about it, so i thought i would here, as this list was foolish enough to give me an opening.
Moving on to the DT17 ep.
The Astro Boyd ep. hit all of these notes, the longing agony of lost love (Gyro and Boyd) the regret that came from Gyro for boyd’s creation.
Boyd’s innocents and loving nature coupled with his wants and identity not being fully understood (gyro thinking he is evil, Fenton wanting him to be a hero, Akita having him be a tool and Tesuka thinking he is just a mindless robot) and just wanting to be seen for what he truly is “a defiantly real boy” and he gets that conformation from Gyro at the end!
and Gyro has is own actualisation, about his own grief, after thinking his love was “misplace” for years on end in a way that made him shut down his heart almost completely. Only to find that he was right to let himself love and that love is actually what helped Boyd help himself. Gyro in essence realising that both him and Boyd are not mistakes or failures but two people who lost the one they loved (each other) and have finally found a way back to each other so they can both begin to fully heal.
So it was a good episode *wipes tear away from eye*
September 11th : favourite villain?
I don’t really have a favourite villain as the show don’t tend to focus to heavy on them and when they do it is somewhat short lived, (like Magica in season 1 and Lunarus in season 2) and since this season has a group of villains (FOWL) and not just one main one like the last 2 seasons, I have a feeling that one of the up coming FOWL members may take the top spot later down the line.
but if we are going off the one i find most entertaining...
I’m going to have to give it to
Magica she is played as scary, funny and damn relatable on occasion (the funzo scene), and i am never disappointed to see her. I think she is very different from comic magica in a lot of ways, but i enjoy this version for different reasons. And i think this magica has room to grow/ change (for good or for worst). So safe to say i am looking forward to the first ep in the line up.
September 12th : favourite character?
why must you make me choose...
seriously all of the characters major or minor is shown in a way that makes them feel very real and well rounded even if they have very little screen time. for god sake the ottoman empire guys get character development (one left the show to pursue acting and they fight with scrooge in the moonvation). So this is not an easy pick to say the least.
but I will be judging it by the one i ‘get the most out of’ so to speck....
and I have to say its a tie...
Donald Duck
I love him ok. He is very small and very angry and he will fight god(s) for his family safety. Anyway, I have always love Donald Duck shorts and everything else he shows up in he is always my fav.
I have always been able to relate to Donald as i too have a bit of a disability that makes it hard for people to understand be (in writing) and i have a ‘voice issue’ that makes me different from everyone around me. So i really understand the feeling Donald have and the anger that comes from being misunderstood in the most basic ways. Its not fun
So Donald has always been important to me in a sense,
The thing about Ducktales 2017 that i love is that it fleshes out Donald’s already established characteristics, by giving them context (e.g. using his outbursts to protect the boys). this gives him something that me has been missing (in animation) for awhile now, and that is how functions outside of himself.
what i mean by that is that Donald is kind of unique when it comes to the Disney sensational 6, unlike the rest is/ can be
-selfish
-cowardly
-rude/ mean spirited
-a loser
these things are what make him different to the rest but in animation for a while he has been shown by himself (without his family or even Daisy) so all of the above characteristics are not “diluted” or held to any standard outside of Donald’s personal misery.
So he can be super selfish and an all around ass cause, yeah, if your life was one pain after the other no matter what you did and you were all on your own all the time, then yeah, your going to be a miserable little shit.
But by reintroducing the boy’s and giving him a more defined role (father/ solo care giver) at least at the start of the show, it gives Donald a reason to “fight off” his less than noble parts of his personality. It also makes his action have more weight as everything he does or fails to do effects the boy’s. So that makes him more appealing overall as what he does (or doesn’t) do now matters, and all the tragedy in Donald’s life are also given weight (Della being gone for 10 yrs, and what that did to his relationship with Scrooge) so his pain is now REAL and even tho he is funny and reckless, he is now a person with flaws and failings but also victory's (getting Della back and his family being close again) and dreams (the three caballeros and his relationship with Daisy)
I do love this little Rage machine
the other fav is
Drake Mallard
(maybe I just like single duck dads? idk, lol)
I have already talked a bit about his intro ep,
but as of right now i am more in love with the potential i see in the character. As we have not really seen to much of him like maybe 4 ep’s total. But Drake is the character i am most hyped to see more of (and the people who are around him, Gos and LP etc.)
as i find him really interesting and he is (ironically) one of the more “normal” people in the show as a whole, He is not rich (high society rich anyway) he is not an explorer, not a scientist, he don’t have a ‘crazy’ backstory (like Gyro in Tokyok) and he doesn't have a direct connection to Scrooge himself (he never worked for him directly, and is not a family member)
so he is just a random guy, who thought “I’m going to do this crazy shit just because a handsome pilot man said i could if i wanted to”
and honestly that’s cool.
he is fun and goofy in an engendering way, and his ego is the right amount of controlled (ish) but still over the top. the character is full of story’s that can be taken from the og show and mixed in with the new show (like his intro ep),
Drake is a just fun to think about, and how his world relates to the world of ducktales in general, as they were separate for such a long time, so seeing it come together in a new way is super existing.
I was already blown away by his last solo ep I can’t wait to see more of him (and his how he will be with his Gos, and how that adventure will unfold)
September 13th Favorited actor/ actress
now this is just an unfair question, this is a star strutted cast and everyone is amazing. There is a pop culture icon and a Disney legend in the cast (and the fact your not 100% sure which one’s i’m talking about proves my point)
So i am going to cheat a little here, I’m not going off the actors and actress themselves per say but rather I’m going to talk about my favourite performance in the show.
I judge this on two things
1) how much the act ‘disappears’ into the character (as in i don’t see the human person when there talking, even if its still just their normal voice)
2) I can’t see (/hear) anyone else being able to do the role
So on those two things in mind i will have to go with.
Paget Brewster
she just plays Della with this fun life to her, she can switch on a dime from crazy adventurer to comic foil to herself and then have moments of deep self refection. And she had to carry the introduction to the character all on her own, as Della was isolated, so if she didn’t sell Della to us (the audience) then the whole mystery/ build up to Della would have fallen apart. So that was not easy but she pulled it off (with great writing as well).
and she was/is amazing as Della, she is just awesome and I love listening to her and how she plays Della.
September 14th Favourite song
Oh for me it hands down has to be “not good enough” I love a good Bond ballad and Ben kills it. Plus it plays a big part in the episodes theme’s for LP,
youtube
its perfect, it fits the story, character and the parody.
September 15th: Favourite scene from favourite episode.
well out of my top 3 episode (that i have already listed) I’m going to not talk about ‘the dark duck returns’ as there is a scene in there that i will talk about later. my favourite scene out of the other 2 episodes i have picked, i would have to go with...
The ‘Defiantly real boy’ scene from Astro BOYD
(i have already talked about my love for Astro boy and this ep in relation to that) what i love the most about this scene is that not only did Gyro and Boyd ‘find’ each other again, but they found themselves again.
youtube
youtube
Boyd turned back into the real boy Gyro ‘made’ him to be (the boy Gyro always believed he was/could be) and that not only was that ok, but the best way for Boyd be himself. Thus his reclaiming of the word Boyd, he is still ‘the same’ but now has a clear sense of what it actually means to himself, mixing both 2BO and Boyd into one. With the love given to 2BO by Gyro and the life experience he has had as Boyd, so Boyd didn’t have to change everything about himself to be complete he just needed to understand that he was loved for being himself and to get confirmation that he is what he believes himself to be a ”Defiantly real boy” (T-T)
as for Gyro, he realised that his love, care and idealism (as he put it) was not misplaced (on Boyd), as when the little boy he loved so fully seemingly turn on him, that broke his heart and his spirit in a way that just would not fully mend. (thus his cold and rude behaviour through out the show so far...) But when Gyro fully embraces his idealism and loving side again (by embracing Boyd) he realises that he can bring his true feeling to the surface again as it was never a mistake for him to do so. thus why he embraces Fenton as an equal, by calling him Doctor and showing the respect he actually always felt for Fenton.
They found themselves through each other, and it melts my heart (T-T)
September 16th: Favourite moonlander
Penny.
September 17th: Favourite Beagle Boy
Black arts Beagle,
I mean he is the reason we have Duckworth back so thats got to count for something.
September 18th: Favourite scene of your favourite ship
I have to say its this little moment here...
youtube
Donald spent the whole episode wanting to impress this woman (Glamor), but after spending time with Daisy decided that Daisy’s dignity was more important then his Big Break. And Daisy returns in kind like ‘yeah i shouldn’t be treated this way’ and its just really sweet. It also got Daisy noticed and most likely jumb started her career and Daisy (again) returned in kind (most likely) by having the three Caballeros perform on stage right after.
so its a small but very insight look into the new dynamic Donald and Daisy are going to/ do have in this show.
[plus this screen shot was funny to me,
i think it has meme template vibes]
September 19th: Favourite scene of your favourite character.
oh my, where oh where to take this?
every character in this show is so good so this is just hard man....
but I will go with “The Duck Knight returns” one of my favs, and honesty i could talk about this episode all on its own (and I just might after “Lets Get Dangerous” airs) but for me one of the scenes that really stuck out to me (that others have not really touched on) Is when they have the “meeting” with Alister, Jim, Scrooge and Dewey and then Drake comes in (and then immediately gets his shit wrecked by Jim).
As a film student, I feel this scene on a personal level.
the old(er) man who knows nothing but wants to take control.
the Pretentious “artist” that thinks “making it dark” makes it meaningful.
the person who pretends they know what there talking about but is to stuck in their ways to really change their mind.
and a child or child like understanding (its more common then you think)
(tho i would place LP in the audience position, which is the point of this scene) This scene hit me where I live, and is a really good commentary on Corporate meddling. As there are three ‘battles’ happening in this scene
1) Scrooge Vs Alistair
this acts as a money vs art argument, that is seen all to often in movies and shows, as I can guess we can all name at least one movie or show that has the “the record studio is changing your sound its not authentic...”
but Dt 2017 shows the other side to this and asks
authentic to what? like its one things when its your own creation but what if its was someone else's (like a reboot)
is it better to be authentic to what was before (the og material), or is it best to take a new direction because its more ‘comfortable’ for you to do (fits your style / sensibility's)
thus leading to
2) LP Vs Dewey
or a young audience vs the older audience, now Dewey and LP don’t really clash in this ep per say but, they act as a more “aggressive” views on audience backlash now they are Not Malicious but they do act as conflicting presences. Dewey (understandably) doesn’t get why it has to be dark and gritty, or what was happening at all as Alistair is going for a high concept film, but guess what, kids aren’t always great at picking high concepts up (at least not right away) and they can be easily bored by it, if its not engaging in a way that can appeal to them.
and LP as an older audience member does know what the show/ movie is “meant to be” so seeing these high concepts added in a way that is not in the sprit of og material can be unnerving. And high concepts can miss the point or main message/style of the og material to the point that unrecognisable (*cough*Live action, Titians *cough*).
both of these points are legitimate concerns for audiences to have, as if something is so different its not unrecognisable then why not just make something original? and not draw a comparison.
and if your main audience is meant to be younger, they how are you going to engage them in way that matters to them or in a way they can understand (youth culture or ‘young truths’ i.e. things kids deal with/experience when growing up)
speaking of which
3) Jim Vs Drake
this one is kind of the mix of the pervious two, or nostalgia vs update? (i can’t think of a better word),
Jim is so determined to be in the spot light that he is willing to ‘throw away’ is morals (as seen at the end), his ‘artist integrity’ no longer matters as long as DW gets to come back, he just wants some sense of being back that it doesn’t actually matter how (*cough* Teen Titians Go*cough*), so he losses a big part of what made it DW to begin with and not because he don’t care about DW but because he places his value of it in one spot (himself as darkwing)
as Drake on the other hand. understands that changes need to be made but he knows the movie is off base (he says so himself later), but he puts the value of DW in more then himself, as he has felt it be bigger then what was just on screen (Jim) and has carried that with him here. And since he is set up as an ‘enemy’ here (Jim jumps him) new is seen as an enemy as well, but he literal gets attached for just existing, so yeah not a great move by Jimbo there, and due to nostalgia (both in and out of the show due Jim starling/cummings) most may not of have pick up on it right away.
so yeah, this is an underrated scene and i wanted to talk about it a little as it sets up the rest of the episode.
September 20th: Favourite friend group
hmmm....
I have a feeling that this is going to change after the new wave of episodes (i like how team hero is shaping up) but for now i will have to say team science. They just have a nice balance of personalities and ability's, plus they the most team (ish) as they literally have to work together (most of them)
huey, gyro, fenton, manny and lil bulb
and all have their own style and smarts
Manny and Lil blub don’t even talk but they have big personalities and now with the addition of Boyd this little group feels well rounded.
I love them nerds

Frank’s answer: Yep.
aria-daize asked: Is the shadow blot tied to any epic mickey lore in this series?
Frank’s answer: Our version of the Blot is a new character that takes bits from the original Mickey nemesis, Shadow Blot from Epic Mickey, and Blot from the original DuckTales. They may never be those perfect versions of themselves, but they’ll never stop trying to be and that’s what makes them heroes.

Drake?
Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: he’s great! i really love dt17 drake, they did such an amazing job at adapting him into the universe and i am beyond hyped to see where they take him in season 3 (especially with him adopting gosalyn)
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: launchpad and fenton/gizmoduck
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: him and gosalyn of course
My unpopular opinion about this character: people tend to forget that drake, even in dt17, can be a little bit of a selfish jerk and it upsets me because it’s one of the best parts of his character
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i'm really excited to see his rivalry with gizmoduck expanded on
Favorite friendship for this character: mallard mcquack family

Now that we're on this hiatus, do you mind telling us what you thought of each episode?
Okay, I know I’m super late to answer this but here I am! I’m not gonna go too in depth on them, but I do want to talk about them.
Treasure of the Found Lamp!
This one was amusing, and I absolutely love what they did with Djinn. I’m so so so glad they changed his name, too, as “Dijon” always bothered me, even as a kid. Also, the story of the lamp was very heartwarming! And seeing Selene again was fun, especially as she had to run around and we find out she’s a terrible liar lol (so she definitely had nothing to do with Della’s disappearance, I think we can all finally put that theory to rest).
The wild goose chase aspect was funny, coming from both sides, and I still think the actress on Ma Beagle’s TV looked vaguely like a character from PKNA so. But Djinn did not pull punches and them Beagles at least got hurt XD
Also. It kinda has a “the greatest treasure is family” vibe to it.
The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!
As someone who loves Scrooge and loves Goldie, but is indifferent to Scroldie… I still loved this episode. It was great! It was also absolutely hilarious. And Gyro’s time traveling was amazing. Especially Scrooge’s sudden moment of realization when Gyro returned lol.
Louie’s gonna befriend Goldie! That makes me excited. I bet they’re gonna teach each other things that we haven’t even thought of (ie Louie values his family, while Goldie doesn’t even have a family. Maybe Goldie will officially join the Duck-McDuck family not through her strange but obviously antagonistically-romantic relationship with Scrooge, but through her friendship with and tutelage of Louie? Maybe he’s the one who shows her the importance of family and offers her a place in their family… it doesn’t mean giving up adventure, it just means always having somewhere she can call home, and people she can trust and rely on!).
I’m iffy about Jeeves’ redesign, and also his somewhat betrayal of Rockerduck, but I’ve never been like a hardcore fan of the two of them so it was easy for me to move on. I am curious, though, just how they’re gonna come back… guess Gyro’s not quite done with time travel shenanigans.
The only real gripe I have is Sheriff Marshal Cabrera. DON’T GET ME WRONG, I absolutely loved him. He’s a beautiful babby boy. But at the same time, he’s literally just. Fenton. I know he’s like. Fenton’s great grandfather (or maybe uncle, idk) or something. There should absolutely be similarities yes, but it felt like someone had taken the characters and placed them in an old west setting. That being said, I do love him, I just wish he’d been slightly more his own character. Like, maybe a little more like a mix of M’Ma and Fenton! Idk.
The 87 Cent Solution!
…….. You really want to know?
Okay, the episode was good. It was funny, and I enjoyed seeing Glomgold’s timestop shenanigans.
But the funeral scene? That wasn’t cool. I saw the “not really dead” twist coming, I think we all did, but no one thought to tell Donald? Donald thought that, so soon after finally making amends with his uncle, he had lost him for good.
And I get it. It’s meant to be a gag. It’s supposed to be funny. But it kinda really soured the rest of the episode for me. I hate to say that too, because it was a good and funny episode… I just… I can’t believe they did that to Donald. :(
The Golden Spear!
AGONY. Agony is how I feel about this one. Della made friends with the Lunarians! Actual friends! And then Penny made a bad choice, and Lunaris… damn you, Lunaris, you traitor.
All the things Della listed off, wanting to do with her kids and brother and uncle… they’re things the others have already done without her. That hit me in the feels.
AND THEN DONALD- AGH, I CAN’T EVEN. Poor Donald. He’s so stressed and his family loves him so much and just wanted him to have some peace. But alas, it was not to be. And now the fandom cries.
… Even if he really shouldn’t have climbed into that rocket but y’know. He didn’t MEAN to press buttons….
Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!
Della reunites with her boys and no one realizes Donald is gone. And we see Della trying to be a mom, and kinda failing miserably. But she’s trying, and she’s learning!
ALSO THEIR WOULD-BE NAMES HFBVSHKFCS
It really put to rest one of my biggest fears, that all of the triplets would accept her immediately (Louie showed serious hesitation through the entire episode, definitely coming from his place of insecurity that Dewey and Huey don’t share) and she’d be super-mom. She makes mistakes, and it’s acknowledged that she seems to be trying to be one of them rather than be their mother. It does feel awkward at times, and alien, like the boys are trying so hard to think she’s doing great when she’s really causing harm, but in the end when it comes down to it she’d do anything to protect them, and gives them the choice of letting her into their life. She doesn’t try and force her way in (as she kinda did at first, but came to realize this isn’t easy for them either).
Right now she feels kinda more like a cool aunt than a mom, but she’ll learn.
Raiders of the Doomsday Vault!
IS LUDWIG’S CONSCIOUS TRAPPED IN THE VAULT?! HE REACTED TO AND INTERACTED WITH THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE.
Anyway Scrooge and Glomgold’s parts were absolutely A+ hilarious. Della and Dewey bonding, they’re so much alike, but we see Dewey’s insecurity flare up- how he wants to impress Della, feeling like he has to earn her love. Even though she’s already loved them for ten years, even without ever knowing what they looked like.
Della has a moment of realization here, too. She looks down and realizes Dewey is in a dangerous situation. She realizes that Dewey is in danger. She questions if they’re doing something crazy, clearly thinking maybe we shouldn’t be doing this, but when Dewey quotes her “I’m your son, I can do anything!” she instead chooses to encourage him, not wanting to discourage him and possibly cause him to fall.
And then of course, her “exit strategy” thing. I honestly kinda feel like it’s a bit of an ass pull, but it at least makes a little sense. When you’re being hunted by a monster on the moon, you always want to have an escape route planned. Scrooge sees that, even if she’s the same ol’ Della she was before, she’s still changed. Ten years still changes you.
Friendship Hates Magic!
New Girl! New Girl! Violet’s pretty cool. At first she comes off as one of those “um, actually” people, but since I’m one of those “um, actually” people it’s pretty whatever to me lol. And Lena’s back! I’m super excited about that.
Lena gets a little jealous-possessive but who can blame her, Webby’s one of the few people who have always believed in her. And Webby spent so much time we never knew about trying to find ways to bring Lena back, to the point that it’s like clockwork.
The whole “being tormented by her own mind” thing was actually frightening in a way, and I’m just glad it all turned out alright. And now Webby isn’t just a fourth triplet, she’s the central member of her own trio. It’s great!
The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!
Admittedly another plotline to be seen from far away. A good episode full of secondhand embarrassment, but dang Huey’s LUNGS.
I love Gandra’s design and personality. It’s pretty durn great. I love it! I just have one gripe. Warning, this is a bit of a rant.
Why can’t we let characters be feminine? By this I mean traditionally feminine. Dresses, makeup, shopping, high heels, giggling, soft and compassion and gentle and things I’m not, pinks and lilacs, etc. Yes, Webby’s favourite colour is pink and she likes glitter and wears skirts, she is pretty feminine. But she’s the only one, besides Roxanne Featherby (Featherly? I don’t remember, and that’s only arguably because of her clothes), to be even slightly feminine, and even then it can be argued she’s not all that traditionally feminine because, well… she’s the bruiser of the group. Which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with! A feminine bruiser absolutely works, and I love it, but looking at it from certain angles…
Most of the (non-villain) females, besides Webby, show next to no traditionally feminine qualities- Goldie is the closest, when she dresses up for special events or for schemes. Which I don’t mind, per se, I don’t have many traditionally feminine qualities either, but you’d think at least a few would. The original Gandra Dee, who I am glad they changed mind you, was very feminine; she wore her hair long, wore dresses, enjoyed makeup and manicures, etc. She was traditionally feminine, AND smart. (even if I never liked how they drew her face (the eyes and beak look weird imho, DT17 pulled it off better), and I felt like she left much to be desired *cough*…)
There is nothing wrong with having traditionally feminine characters. There is nothing wrong with having characters who enjoy dressing up, or putting on makeup, or shopping, etc. The problem with traditionally feminine characters comes in when it’s done for sex appeal, or you have a woman running from dinosaurs in 6 inch heels (yeah I’m calling that out) or there’s a feminine character there only to be dragged on by the others for their feminine characteristics.
Anyway, rant about that over. I still love what they did with Gandra, but I’m just noticing this trend where female characters aren’t being allowed to like traditionally feminine things. Yeah, there are absolutely a lot of girls who don’t, but there’s probably an equal amount who do! And there’s nothing wrong with showing a competent, traditionally feminine character. :/
The Duck Knight Returns!
DARKWING DUCK DARKWING DUCK DARKWING DUCK NEGADUCK AAAAAAAA
Need I say more?
Okay, Launchpad is a sweetheart and let’s be honest, we knew the moment we saw him that the other guy at the signing was Drake Mallard.
I love that they kept the “Darkwing Duck inspires Drake Mallard to become Darkwing Duck” aspect of DW’s origin story, while twisting it around so that time travel and paradoxes don’t occur. Also! We still get Jim Cummings as Negaduck, while also getting a new VA for Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck- someone who does a pretty good job at sounding like them, too. So now Negaduck, who is no longer Darkwing/Drake Mallard from an alternate universe, has his own distinguishable voice!
… And I still think Negs is gonna have an unhealthy obsession with Launchpad, thanks to the “my fan” comment. I figure that’s how we’ll get Nega Launchpad, but who knows! There’s so many possibilities!
Anyway Gosalyn, yesterday please. Gimme.

Do Ducktales characters have their particular nemesis?
It struck me this morning that some DT17 characters were given their own archs with some of the series villains in a way that give the impression of some of those having a particular feud with them. Especially in the context of the triplets, who used to always be a group, now that they were given their own fields it seems some of the series' villains, despite antagonizing the whole family, interact with some members specifically.
For example it seems to me that Mark Beaks is primarily a Huey villain. He was the main antagonist in two of the five episodes that had a particular Huey prominence.
Yes, in “Infernal Internship”, both Huey and Dewey took the main lead. However it was Huey who idolized Beaks, and the discovery of his fraud had a much larger impact on him. Dewey was mostly there bc it seemed cool.
Dewey and Beaks would clash again in B.U.D.D.Y, but once again, it was mostly a Launchpad/Fenton episode, and Dewey was mostly there to fill in the mandatory triplet quota and cheer for LP. In "Who is Gizmoduck?" Huey is the only one who goes on to fiercely protest against Beaks, while his brothers did not seem to care. It is also the only episode in which Dewey was limited to a non-speaking cameo. Granted, Beaks antagonized Fenton the same amount of times he antagonized Huey, but Fenton is not really a Main Cast character. My point is, out of the McDuck family, Huey is the one who is always put against Mark Beaks. Another, minor, example is how, after "Day of the Only Child!" Big Time Beagle seems to have a particular resent towards Huey, probably because of how easily his brothers turned on him for the triplet.
In fact, “Day of the Only Child!” is one of the best episodes to highlight how each triplet could have their particular enemies. in that episode, we are introduced to Doofus, who is, in his turn, somewhat obsessed with Louie, and in many ways an evil counterpart to him.
Doofus was pretty much remodeled to rival Louie, and they have an interesting relationship. I dont even have to mention how tumblr already begun to ship them.
Another prime example of the Louie Villain was the bigfoot Tenderfeet. While he is pretty much confirmed not to recurr, it was fun to see Louie battle against another conman, and while Huey’s ethics and Dewey’s lack of planning would be no match for the bigfoot, a villain like Tenderfeet was perfectly cut out for Louie, who got to show his ability in outsmarting him.
Gladstone is in a bit muddy waters. While he is not a proper villain in DT17, he doesn’t hesitate in crossing his family twice in the same episode, so while he is someone Louie admires, he’s also something of a bad example, and Louie notices that. I wouldn’t say Gladstone is a villain to Louie (if a villain at all). He’s more of a non-aligned, gray morality character. That being said, he was originally introducted as a villain, (Not unlike Scrooge) and has been ocasionally rivaling Donald in the comics for decades
Dewey has been considered by the fandom to be the true “protagonist” of Season 1, and with so much prominence, he had no need to be put into battle against a character brought up for that purpose. Mostly motivated by the search for his mom or the seek for Scrooge’s attention, even Magica wasn’t a concern for him until the finale.
One exception to this, however, has got to be Don Karnage.
Much like Doofus is to Louie, Don Karnage is a great mirror of Dewey turned evil. He’s self-centered, attention-greedy and cares more about being dramatic than about treasure. Not at all unlike the little middle child. In fact, in Sky Pirates, Dewey loses his crew for the exact same reason Don Karnage did before him, that is, because he also couldn’t stand sharing the spotlight. While Don Karnage is more of an annoyance to the rest of the family, he is a serious antagonist to Dewey, exactly because they are so similar.
The air theme is also an interesting paralell when compared to more positive influences for Dewey, in this case Launchpad and arguably Della, also aviators. In fact, when it comes to the triplets, their Positive influences often paralell negative ones, such as Fenton and Beaks for Huey with the tech theme, and Scrooge and Gladstone with the money/work ethic theme.
Finally, while Magica was the main villain of the season, and mainly looking after Scrooge, i think it’s safe to say that Webby has all the reason to hate her with a particular passion. Magica deceived everyone, but she played with the most fragile parts of Webby’s heart. Webby’s confront with Magica in the finale is in no way an overstatement, considering how this girl, (who let’s not forget was not used to have her weak spots exposed) had everything she ever wanted for one moment only to see Magica take all of it away in the next. With the Lena issue being, at the very least, fairly unresolved, it’s not far-fetched to say Webby still has things to settle with Magica, even if the others simply let her walk away.

Is ain't like they're trying to do Donald dirty since Frank said in SDCC 2019 that he wanted DuckTales to Donald to accomplish what A Goofy Movie did for Goofy. And if it makes ya feel better Frank has said Donald will be getting lots of interaction with Della and Scrooge later this season and will find out why he came to live with Scrooge. Why don't you read Ducktales rewritten by Super Saiyan 3 Odd? Quack Pack is one he rewrote with Gladstone and Fethry added.
The latter I did not understand, especially about Super Saiyan 3 Odd, what is it about, I do not understand? Is it a writer or something else? Can you please explain to me about that. Ducktales 2017 is not and cannot be like Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball is a great anime that I enjoyed as a child and it is a story unto itself. If references from that are used, fine, but not to exaggerate and be a rip-off, or a copy of that. If they did well regarding the references from the anime in DT17, then it’s a reference to Lupin III and Astro Boy (the Astro Boyd episode, which I consider one of the best episodes so far). Too bad I didn’t get to give my review around that episode, I hope to have time around that. For Gladstone and Fethry, I expected them to appear in that episode, given that it would be a comedy episode, but unfortunately they didn’t appear. And no, I don't like that episode for a lot of reasons, which I've already discussed. I'd rather Gladstone and Fethry appear in the Quack Pack series (cartoon show, not the Ducktales episode), but about that another time. And one more thing. No offense, but why do you take Frank Angones and his answers for granted? I know that one of the creators of Ducktales is a reboot and that he is one of the main writers, but he writes how it suits him and probably satisfies his fans in some way, in a way that the fandom likes. I don’t mind, which is good if someone’s wishes are granted, but not in a way to be like a fandom responder. In a way, we have a lot of toxic fandoms and fans around many modern shows, including Ducktales 2017. No offense, I love that series, and you love it too, but fandom has somehow gone a little too far, and I wouldn’t talk about it. To get back to the topic, Frank makes a series and writes episodes as he sees fit, so it doesn't have to be everything he literally means. It can also be in a figurative sense. Let him know that he jokes a lot, and that he trolls. No offense, but please don't take his answers for granted, some answers don't have to mean that they are correct and that they will be so. Goofy was great in Goofy Movie, with good and bad traits, and most of the film focused on him and his son. With Donald in DT17, this is unfortunately not the case, as the series unfortunately does not focus on him, nor on the relationship between him and his nephews. If you want to know where Donald really looked like Goofy in Goofy Movie (I mean traits, focus and parent-child relationships), then these are comics (especially Carl Barks comics, European comics and partly Brazilian comics), Quack Pack and Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas (great movie), that’s where he focuses on Donald the most, he has Donald both good and bad qualities and that’s where we have the relationship between him and his nephews. Ducktales 2017 was supposed to show it, which it showed in part, especially at the end of the first season (Shadow War), where Donald hugs his nephews, and he showed in part at the beginning of the series, in a pilot episode (Wo-hoo!), but in the rest and I don't really believe that Donald in DT17 will be like Goofy in Goofy Movie. I expected that, but unfortunately it didn't happen. Yes, I forgot to say, regarding your previous answer. Yes, I hope there will be a focus on the relationship between Scrooge, Donald and Della, but I doubt that will happen. There are too many characters and too many main characters in DT2017, and they mostly focus on Donald's nephews and Webby, and I doubt there will be a focus on Donald either. I simply expected something more there, but it didn’t happen. I certainly hope that some of the next episodes in Ducktales reboot will be more successful than the previous ones, but around Donald in DT2017, that he will have a better treatment and more focus on him, I doubt very much that this will happen. If that happens, it means that they started to correct the mistakes from the previous episodes, but I say again, we have to see if that will really happen. I would also add The Legend of the Three Caballeros, which I love about that series and which shows a great focus on Donald, but I can’t include that, because there weren’t Donald’s nephews there as well as their relationship between uncle and his nephews. There, so much, I apologize for this and I apologize if I insulted you with my answers, I apologize and I hope you are satisfied with my answers which again turned out to be longer than they should be. Sorry one more time, and if there are any doubts and questions, just go ahead. I respect your defense of that series and I'm glad you gave those counter-arguments, but you have to understand that the mistakes have to be corrected, if Ducktales reboot wants to win the fourth season. I say that for your own good. I respect your position and your opinion and thank you once again for your understanding.

According to my opinion, Donald can be a real asshole to his nephews in the old shorts and people need to remind it. The smoking, and the trick'o treat. And much more.
Of course he was.
Corporal punishment was accepted and encouraged during the time period he was created. He’d get a switch and wear those feathered heinies out.
Donald did the same to Pete’s son in Bellboy Donald. Granted, it felt great seeing it happen. Peter Jr. was a little shit, but I don’t think that’s the way anyone should correct behavior. It was cathartic though.
Disney at the time wanted to portray Donald with three, snot nosed nephews, and they were either pretty sweet or downright awful to each other. This crossed into the classic animated shorts and Carl Barks’ stories.
Guys…the original story behind Donald getting custody of them was HDL put firecrackers under their dad’s chair, and it went as fantastic as you’d expect it to. Della abandoned her kids in what is presumed Disney-Carl Barks universe, maybe Don Rosa, but Don wasn’t allowed to go that far into the lore. He had plans, but he couldn’t touch it, just like Hortense.
Donald was a dick to the kids. That’s how it was portrayed in those mediums. Don Rosa did better in regards to their relationship, but I will say it twice and many times again, as much as I enjoy his work, I did not like his treatment of Donald or Daisy.
DuckTales 2017 reimagines his characterization into a more fatherly role. He’s their dad, and I love that. But a valid criticism of the show’s portrayal is their tendency to lean a bit too much on telling rather than showing.
We don’t get to see Donald as a dad often because the show doesn’t focus much on his relationships with the boys or Webby, or even his relationship with Scrooge. (I get that. We haven’t gotten to the whole Donald and Scrooge thing yet.)
Della has gotten a bonding episode with Dewey. She’s gotten a b-plot focused on her relationship with Huey. When she returns home, there was a little bit on with Louie, and we know they’re going to have an episode too. She’s even had a moment with Webby.
Closest we’ve gotten was S1′s House of the Lucky Gander and S1 Shadow War, and even then it was more about the family as a whole, also connected to Scrooge.
I get it.
DT87 sent Donald off to the Navy. He wasn’t a part of the narrative often. It was reassuring to know Donald was going to be a main character in the reboot. However, Scrooge and Della’s relationships with the kids have taken precedence.
You can explain it’s due to the fact Donald doesn’t want a life of adventure anymore. He lost his sister. He was estranged from his uncle. He’s done with that. But it is a little frustrating.
The show isn’t completely devoid of Donald + sons content. Huey and Donald have a relationship outside adventures. We’ve Huey ask Donald to join them, has gone with Donald to the bank to ask for a loan. Huey knows Donald loves corny vacation postcards and tried to send one.
The show didn’t tell us Huey is closest to Donald. We can tell through what the show has shown us.
Dewey had a moment mostly in the Christmas episode. I mentioned Louie’s episode.
While these moments are good and very enjoyable to watch, we haven’t gotten a Donald + son episode like Della has yet. We haven’t even gotten a Webby and Donald episode.
Criticism addressed the family bonds majorly through adventure, which isn’t a bad thing unless there’s balance. An episode not focused on an adventure, and before anyone says ‘This is what the show is about,’ it’s possible for the show to pull off a more Barksian model occasionally.
A lot of his stories contained Donald and the boys going through household hijinks or Donald messing up on a job. These were either long or short stories. The show isn’t just about Donald. It’s DuckTales, not DonaldTales.
Frank said he wanted to do for Donald what A Goofy Movie did for Goofy, and I’d say he succeeded to an extent.
Goofy and Max were the driving force for A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie. It was about the changes in their relationship and coming to even terms with each other, communication. Goof Troop pushed Goofy and Max to the forefront, so we didn’t need the show to tell us Goofy was a good parent; almost every episode was about Goofy being a good dad.
Goofy dad’d PJ. He was a better dad to PJ than Pete.
Goof Troop and its films were mostly sitcoms. DT17 is more family adventure. I understand why there’s adventure constantly going on, and the most recent episode TGAOCC is the closest we’re going to get to a “breather” episode with the family.
If the show can replicate what The Golden Armory of Cornelius Coot had except with Donald, then I think it’d even out the relationship imbalance, in my opinion. Or we can have a Household Hijinks episode where Donald and the kids bond through mundane mayhem.
