#but different kinds of problems to deal with

The only point of contention for me would be -- to use the cleaning metaphor -- what if people intentionally come into your kitchen after you've cleaned and revert all your progress? And what if you've identified the cause?

Cleaning the kitchen anyway can be good for your soul, I suppose.

But all too often people will do the immediate improvements without asking how to make them both lasting and sufficiently supported by responsible people so that if the improvements are flawed they can be reverted but if the improvements are good nobody can tamper with them.

Actually, I really dislike the kitchen metaphor, because it only acknowledges *you* (or *me*) and not the role of everyone involved. The "dirt" isn't accidental, it was dirtied on purpose. The people that did so are referring to the dirt as "cleaning". Some are uninformed, some are malicious...and some have been warned against our cleaning efforts, told that we are utterly evil, malicious and manipulative and they don't trust even the most harmless cleaning job you can imagine. They don't trust ideas outside their circle openly, their trust in others has been systematically undermined. Every act of kindness or cruelty further deepens their sense that manipulation or evil is at work. In the kitchen metaphor, this is just another type of dirt to chip away at -- the people involved are no longer people, their misguided cleaning efforts are no longer expressible through the metaphor because all they are is passive "dirt", at best their activity could be expressed as "dust collecting in a corner" or "mold growing" or something.

I'm not trying to critique the mindset of hope or the desire to fix even small problems even when all is bleak. The mindset can be helpful. It usually is. It is far better to do anything than to freeze and wallow in misery. It is definitely good to look for any opportunity to help -- and whenever you feel able to, to seize those opportunities.

What bothers me is instead that talking about cleaning a kitchen just doesn't capture the situation.

Let's think about the types of knowledge/power and how they are distributed.

Are you struggling with a disability? With a health issue? With a mental illness? Does neurodivergence present challenges? Does being fat present challenges? Or are you nearing old age and your body and/or mind aren't what they used to be? Perhaps you are a child and your body and mind are (sometimes rightly, but sometimes wrongly) judged to be incapable or overly capable. All these people ultimately don't struggle from non-descript "dirt", they struggle with judgments made about the health and capability of their bodies. The elderly, fat, neurodivergent and mentally ill all deal with doctors, diagnoses, etc. There's people that view all these issues separately, as different piles of dirt ("sanism", "ageism", "sizeism" etc) but technically, whether your deformity gets you called ugly or your health issues aren't taken seriously, it all revolves around health and ideas about the healthy body.

And we can see these kinds of parallels with other issues, too.

Movements for digital privacy share some peculiar overlap with movements against prisons and police brutality and the state, because the privacy movements deal with surveillance -- and surveillance isn't just "dirt", it's how governments aim to control their citizens (of course economic actors also try and control people, but states seem more interested in this).

Conversations about race and racism revolve around place and belonging, around origin, around "outsiders", real and imagined. For example, Islamophobia is racist because it takes cultural differences and uses them to attack people. When the bigots tell a Navajo woman to "go back to your country", the idea of place that racism relies on is on full, awkward display.

And then there's the conversations queer folks and women share in common about gender. The nuclear family and it's "family values", there are connections that can be drawn here. Here also we have the rights of sex workers, the conversations around kinks and "weird" sex, the things that are perceived as threats to the reproduction of society.

Then there's environmental issues, which can be radically different from each other, but also share a lot in common.

And economic issues, of course.

And when we look at these roughly six fields of knowledge, we realize that they aren't just dirt.

You can't understand racism's history without understanding that slavery was a business, that colonialism was "good for the economy", that taking people's homes and resources is something that involves goods changing hands and is intensely economic. You can't understand environmental damage until you understand that the mess industry causes is so monumental that the small mess I'd like you to start cleaning ...has to do with the small steps to fix the pollution the economy causes, not your own personal pollution. Health care costs money and the expectation of what healthy looks like is tied to making people money. Everything the state does, from evictions to arresting protesters to spying on you, is motivated, in part, by corporate lobbying, by "the interests of the state" (which are interests in goods, economic growth, and in protecting wealth). The idea of the reproduction of society along specific lines is the only exception here...but even there we discover that the biggest dirt in our gender kitchen are economic barriers that entrench conservative attitudes.

So I really really doubt that There is no "THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT part." is good advice for the 21st century.

Our kitchen has a dirt-flinging machine in the center of the room. And the machine has people maintaining it, convincing kitchen cleaners to stop cleaning dirt or to keep cleaning dirt but ignore the machine. Or to focus on the dirt they can clean and maybe some day a miracle will happen and the machine will be dealt with.

The idea that all problems are equal makes me think progressives just have no genuine idea of how to fix dirt.

A wise girl once said that classism will disappear if poverty is gone -- and I think that this is a good way of thinking about dirt. There is dirt you will regret having cleaned because you were going to throw out the entire stovetop anyway. If you can identify these MOST IMPORTANT parts of life and make little efforts to improve them, you will live with far fewer regrets. There are so many ways to end up wasting ones time with cleaning. Politics that becomes overly personal often just makes you judgmental and punitive. Politics that becomes overly focused on crises often makes you short-sighted and narrowly focused. I can't guide you through to the perfect way of improving the world in one Tumblr post (and there likely is no perfect way) but don't say there aren't more or less important changes, because there are.

Like...the whole idea of using the word "radical" is to talk about the roots of problems. You needn't want violence or be involved in mega-changes to see the value of addressing mostly these elephants in the room. Because trust me, an elephant in your kitchen is probably important to try and let out. And how do we eat the elephant? One bite at a time.

Daily reminder that we do not actually live in a dystopian movie put the apocalypse down and back away slowly. You know when your cleaning a room and you pull everything out of it's draws to sort through it and you're like "what the fuck have I done I'm never going to be able to tidy all of this" I think that's the stage we're at in the world. Thanks to social media we've pulled out all the messed up shit from the cupboards of the world, it was always there but now we can see it and we're going to have to sort it all out we made this mess and we can fix it. Falling to the floor sobbing will not clean a crusty room. A group of people working systematically (preferably with music in the background) will.

behind the scenes pictures of you and billie did not help the growing fanbase shipping the two of you. it would be pictures taken by friends and family of you and billie doing the most random things that turned to something big online. a picture of you and billie laying on her hotel bed besides each other your bodies close and yes focused on the big screen in-front of you. pictures of you leaning on the bathroom door looking at billie apply her makeup. pictures of the two of you sleeping while leaning on each other on the tour bus and most of all the silly pictures billie post on her story of you on your birthday.

billie would mention you during her shows when she tells her fans about something funny that happened or when she comments about the amount of water bottles you put out for her during the concert. billie would joke about you selling the bras she received on stage or the fact that they were your problem to deal with after.

the sharing of clothes between the two of you was excessive to everybody but you two. billie would wear your stuff ad people would notice because you had very different taste in clothes and of course they notice when you did the same because the clothes were so much bigger they basically swallowed you whole.

you were mostly the person who took billie's picture that she posted on instagram that's why she got comments like, ''god bless y/n for taking these pictures'' '' how did she take these without fainting cause billie looks so good'' '' thank youuu y/n you deserve to have your cookie ate for these'' .

when billie would get hurt on stage the first person to appear would be you with a first aid kit and a pout at billie's state that gets captured by the fans and obviously posted online. sometimes when fans want to tell billie to take care of herself they say they hope you're taking care of her instead and billie would laugh it off and just nod.

billie who was a little shy at first and would try and do most things herself but you caught her crying in the storeroom saying she was overwhelmed and you chastised her to call you for all kinds of things that was your job anyways. and ,that's how billie had you on speed dial for every single thing. she needs an outfit, she needs food, she needs a snack, she needs someone to babysit shark, her food ran out and she's scared to go to the grocery because of anxiety, managing a bunch of offers through her personal instagram dms. you were there for it all.

once billie commented on how you're always single and most of the crew agreed in laughter leading you to admit that billie was the one cockblocking you. you explained that not literally but most of them assumed you were dating billie already and did not want to compete with her or it's because they just wanted to meet billie through you.

the theory made up by fans that wherever billie is you were also always there. this theory was proved by multiple pictures of billie that either featured you in the background photobombing her or it's your phone , clothes , shoes anything that was related to you always appeared.

the way you were so close with billie you would sometimes spend major holiday events with her family due to being on tour. thanksgiving spent with billie and her family, christmas was also spent with her alone with other things like your birthday.

the way billie would drag you to actually participate in after party's instead of just booking her into them and staying behind in the hotel. she would insist you also dress up and go with her which most likely ends with pictures and videos of you two on the dance floor by the next day.

they way billie would be constantly asked if she was dating you in interviews. she would say no but then side eye you behind the camera with a foolish smile erupting the rumors even more.

billie was physical touch person everybody knew that but somehow people always made it a bigger deal when she initiated it with you. videos of you hugging before and after a show , you on billie's back as she sins you around, the hand holding ,the forehead kisses...

it was always professional even when billie got too flirty which was a dangerous game because you didn't back down from those but engaged in them more. the way her eyes would start to linger in places where they should or the way her touch grew clingy.

the behind the scenes videos for vogue did nothing but dig the grave of rumors a big bigger. billie made a skincare video that featured most of your products because she openly admitted to that and from that fans gathered that you two shared hotels for your stuff to be in her bathroom. the other one with billie getting ready for the met you featured in it as you brought billie breakfast and sat down on her balcony eating yours not aware how you were also being recorded for vogue.

On the topic of titles, while I dont think Meghan misses the life she had in the UK as a working member of the family, she absolutely loved the fact people bowed and called her your highness. She had crowds of people greeting her when she had an event and referring to her as a Dutchess. The crowds and love she got in the UK are like nothing like she's had in the US and it very obvious she's misses that. America has a different culture here that never going to give her that.

She had everything going for her to be treated like that in the US - she even set up her own PR to get that kind of glowing America’s Sweetheart coverage over here, and for a while in the early days, she was actually getting that kind of coverage.

The major inflection points that caused Americans to turn against her:

1. William kicked the Sussexes out of KP (and eventually the foundation), the news of which followed closely by stories of Meghan’s attitude and behavior against The Queen, Kate, and Charlotte. All four of them are well-liked by Americans (The Queen is everyone’s grandmother, Kate is the modern Cinderella fairy tale come to life, Charlotte is the real life Disney Princess) but mostly it’s to do with William inheriting the Diana fan club, so if William has a problem then we have a problem. So that’s how she lost much of the American royal fandom (minus Sussex Squad, of course).

2. The timing of Megxit and COVID. The global lockdowns meant everyone was stuck in their houses not really doing anything and the pandemic itself caused a little bit of reckoning in what celebrity is and what they do. Megxit meant the Sussexes couldn’t get the deals or PR traction they wanted from the US market, plus being “out” meant they couldn’t participate in the BRF’s pivot to virtual engagements. So by the time lockdowns ended and everyone was getting back to work or launching new projects, the Sussexes were so far behind everyone else, including both BRF and Hollywood, that they were chasing tire tracks - not even the dust, that’s how far behind they were. That’s how she lost the pop culture/celeb fandom.

3. The Sussexes’ insertion of themselves into the 2020 election with their GOTV commercial. A lot of people were very bothered by that, in a “what gives them the right” kind of way mainly because it’s a British prince and his wife using their British titles to interfere in American politics. It crossed the line for a lot of people of all political stripes. That’s how she lost the politically-engaged.

4. The airing of dirty laundry in the Oprah interview. The Sussexes did the interview intending to establish themselves as the victim - they were copying not only Diana’s Panorama interview but they were also copying their own (accidental) earlier PR. If you remember, when the relationship first came out and later when the engagement was announced, Meghan’s former friends and former family came out like a wild pack of hyenas briefing against her. This got Meghan quite a lot of sympathy because it gave her an incredible victim edit that made Harry look like quite the hero, and it also made her look more Diana-like because of Diana’s accusations that her own friends and family (aka the BRF) were smearing her name in the press in a bid to take her down or dim her light. But as we all know, Meghan absolutely didn’t get the victim edit this time; she got the villain rap. And that’s because Americans don’t like people who broadcast the dirty laundry of people who can’t defend themselves and we don’t like liars. That’s how she lost “the silent majority” (if you will, for lack of a better identifier).

At that point, the US sort of culturally wrote Meghan off. We don’t like privileged people who complain they’re not privileged enough or wealthy enough and that basically Thanos-snapped American crowds, American interest, and American respect in the Sussexes. Particularly Meghan.

So long analysis short, the absence of American likability (fondness?) is Meghan’s own doing. All she had to do was stay quiet or be publicly appreciative of her time in the UK and she probably would’ve kept American crowds, interest, and favor - that’s why the victim edit in 2017/2018 worked; because she didn’t participate (as visibly) and let the court of American public opinion judge. But in 2021, she basically took a scud missile to her own reputation by crowning herself the victim.

Probably the #1 thing most Americans have in common is that we hate with a fiery, burning passion being told what to think and what to do. So when Meghan told us she was the victim, despite contrary evidence, most of us went “fork that” and bye-bye Meghan’s American Dream.

I'm just gonna expound on my Bob headcanons because...yeah. After my "thoughts on Wanda" thing I have a lot of thoughts and I'm kind of annoyed about some of the ones I've seen so let me just - break this down.

AS A PERSON:

this is a man who is familiar with Gen Z/Alpha internet lingo but he tells no one. So when the "New Avengers" are confronted with anything "Skibidi" or Ohio he plays dumb or mildly says "Well you *don't* have aura maybe?" but refuses to explain what the words mean and he won't - unless Yelena asks (and even then Yelena has kind of an idea.)

He can't cook worth shit but he likes baking tons mostly because following recipes is easy as hell, its on a box, it's brownies (and Yelena just side-eyes him the whole damn time but he laughs and shrugs)

If somebody makes a remark about his whole "problem" he just rolls his eyes and bounces it off him with a joke and if he's having a bad day the jokes get nastier (" Look, I'm crazy. I'm not stupid. There's a difference." "C'mon. Throw me a bone here. My life runs the gamut from normal guy to chicken on meth that'd mess with anybody...? man." "Yeah. Well. I'm gonna go sit in my box and take five minutes.") he always apologizes after. He's working on it.

If he remembers to vote he votes Green party. While his favorite was Captain America growing up, when it heads into the fourth of July he just starts to subtly drop hints about how much America sucks. He doesn't really care but he can quote a lot of facts about the failures of American policy. Red Guardian laugh. Bucky chuckles. John takes it very personally.

He fucking hates, *hates* *haaaates* cops. To the point that "oh you poofed a bunch of cops into the void. "huh. that happened. did they come back? ah. well good for them I guess." The comics don't talk about his family but in this case his dad was a cop in my HC so.

He's really good with numbers because the way he got to where he was was doing numbers for drug cartels (this man has an arrest record) and he is very, very good with taxes. So if he wasn't watching Allegra having seen her memories he threatens to look up her tax numbers. ("Are you threatening to kick my ass?" "No. I'll look at your tax returns")

WITH YELENA.

He tends to go to Yelena first to share triumphs and tribulations about anything he's learned or discovered. This also means she gets to deal with any "Sentry" moments. This varies from dealing with his "hey I did a cool thing" to his delusions of grandeur "It's because I'm fucking amazing and the rest of you fucking suck."

It's because he catches himself around her though, and he does, and he apologizes. To her credit she's set some pretty good boundaries with him and he respects that. They have a 15 minute rule if he's having a bad day or he recognizes he wants to share something mental health related.

He's turned her on to playing Mario Kart and gotten Red Guardian to play with them. he will never admit to either of them that he considers them the closest thing to family because he has no idea what their relationship is he just knows he is happy around him.

He has also turned her on to ASMR because it helps *him* fall asleep. She'll never admit some of it freaks her out but he swears it helps so she just humors him because okay sure watching videos of people pretending to brush your hair works and maybe it kind of does she won't admit it.

WITH ALEXEI

he's getting him to teach him Russian.

Despite having done every drug under the sun, he doesn't drink which confuses the hell out of the Red Guardian but having done quite a few drugs himself (as well as drinking), Alexei is probably his biggest sobriety partner. Sometimes people will find the two of them deep in conversation. If Yelena needs a break she'll send him to Alexei and Alexei will just grab him a little like scruffing a kitten with a "C'mon boy. You're talking to me now."

They go for drives. .

He does Alexei's taxes (or at least he tried. Then he determined he's going to prison because he never filed. so he'd go to prison if he tried to turn them in.)

The two of them talk communism with Alexei trying to convert him to a comrade. Bob doesn't care but he humors him.

WITH AVA

bob took Ava's remarks about "not having a childhood" really seriously so he started sending her cartoon recaps because he's obsessed with youtube. Stuff like Rugrats, Cartoon Network, Pokemon. When she asked him "Why" he lied and said that "It might be helpful in training because reading over what kids like might help with dealing with kids". She told him to stop - until she asked for more stuff about anime like pokemon. Just - stop spamming her email.

She's the one who teaches him meditation. His "bad" days are his and he doesn't show them to anybody but the one time she caught him - a rarity - she's the only person that ever has- she taught him meditation to keep himself grounded. it helps. he's grateful.

Sometimes Bob has a tendency to get annoyed with people who his friends are pissed off at which translated to a passed off hatred of Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and Hope Van Dyne. Ava was watching them on TV and just kind of rolled her eyes at them on TV making a casual remark about "stolen valor" for her father's work and Doctor Foster's. Bob's remark, "Do you want them here? I mean I'll hold them down, Drag um down even and lock them *down there* and you can just. Do what you want. Or I will. It'll be great!" No? Okay no. No I mean...bad idea. Yeah. Sorry sometimes...Just slips out." Sorry.

WITH WALKER

He does make the Gen Z/Gen Alpha lingo jokes at John mostly about not having Aura or Rizz. But he'll point out that he was "made in Ohio" technically and when John asks if he's okay or having an episode Bob will feel bad but he keeps up with the joke so he'll say yeah. It's just too good a joke to not keep going.

The whole reason that Bob has done any kind of training at all is because of John and he's gotten really good at it. He can actually put together a gun together and take it apart and put it together. He just hasn't shared he can do it with his mind *really really fast*.

He doesn't "like" the guy but he'll defend the guy. He doesn't like what he represents and he likes what they do to soldiers even less. When he was dealing, vets were some of his customers so whenever anybody from the government shows up he makes sure to dress extra nice and just sit and stare really really quietly trying to be as creepy as possible.

When they get close to either Bucky or John he doubles up on the staring and when Allegra gets close to either of them he'll just move up and sit even closer staring at her directly tilting his head even more animal like before smiling. Then when people afterwards ask him why he behaves like that he shrugs "I don't care what people think about me. They treat you guys like trained dogs. You're not. I don't give a shit what people think. They don't get to treat you like that."

He's not going to bend the shield back into place ever but he did buy Taco bell tacos and buy a big card that said "Have a smashing birthday" and he crossed that out and wrote "I'm sorry I smashed your shield."

WITH BUCKY

He's put together about Sam and Bucky falling out and he is trying to figure out how to approach the idea that Bucky should break away from Allegra. Or they should strike out on their own. Or maybe just disband. He's not sure how to play things yet.

He just doesn't want them to leave him and he doesn't want to leave them either because he's worried that if they leave then he'll snap and he feels like Bucky gets it but he can't talk to Bucky about that so he just kind of haunts him and tires to engage him in conversation because he's seen what Bucky went through and he knows that he might get it.

"You should get a pet." "What?" "You should get a pet man. I'm not saying everybody I'm saying. You. Like I know you've got this tough guy persona to maintain but you just strike me as a dude who needs like, a pet." "...Maybe you need a pet." "I've got a pet." "...No no! It's not you guys! wait that didn't come out right. Hang on it's um. hang on. It's a virtual pet! See it's a tamagotchi! I feed it, play with it. I had a dog growing up...I'm gonna go now."

Bucky doesn't scare him but the void knows that Yelena has to be the first to die, Bucky has to be the second. Yelena is the barrier preventing it's return to power, Bucky is the one who would organize people to stand against it.

WITH ALLEGRA

Allegra is a huge trigger for him. She avoids looking at him and tries to fake mother him whenever she sees him. It's hard to turn off that need for approval but he likes how people stand beside him.

That turns on that protective sense of "I've got to protect these people these people suck and don't want what's best for everybody otherwise they won't try and divide this whole team thing because something bad is coming."

If I really could control this I should just kill her. - is a regular thought Bob's had and it's the one thing he wishes all three of his personalities could agree on.

He is banned from seeing her but he still shows up anyway. It's gotten to the point where people have taken her aside and said point blank "Look. You need to stop asking to see him." "Why? He's-" "It's for your safety. We don't know what to do with him. And we don't know what he'll do to you. He doesn't like you. At all. He likes us. and he might hurt you."

To which Bob would respond, "No no, I wouldn't do thaaaat- I'd just y'know. Remind her. about her dad."

And he just stares.

"But that's private right?"

and he just spends the rest of the day alone and Allegra leaves.

Anyway those are my headcanons.

Even if Marcus having a daughter did turn out to be the red flag in season 1 that showed where season 2 was headed socially and politically, that plot point didn't need to be mutually exclusive with a season 2 plot that was nuanced and interesting re: Piltover vs. Zaun.

Marcus had multiple opportunities in season 1 to stop what he was doing with Silco and actually prioritize his daughter (and his life with her) - or just stop Silco himself, if Marcus had been willing to die or go to prison - but his personal biases and the opportunity for personal gain kept winning out over and over, leading to his death. Which was tragic - even if many of us didn't feel that bad for him - yet inevitable. I never got the sense that Marcus in season 1 was indicating a "both sides are the same" or "we should all just work together" type of plot, but rather, "Here is what the privileged are willing to do - and not do - to maintain the status quo."

In watching season 1, between Marcus having a daughter, Jayce being easily led and reaching too far with his power, and Caitlyn's naivete, I thought that the Piltover plot was taking us to a place where these more privileged characters see opportunities to do better wrt the undercity, but because of ignorance, personal gain, personal biases, or personal injury and trauma, they actively choose to perpetuate the sociopolitical divide and find ways to justify these choices for themselves, regardless of any opportunities they may have to learn, grow, and do better specifically with regards to the undercity. Which helps shed light on why irl power structures seem so rigid and unchanging despite everything. This doesn't mean that the Piltover characters needed to die or anything, but I do think it would've been more interesting if the tragedy element was kept ("fate worse than death" types of tragic endings are more interesting anyway imo), the Piltover/Zaun conflict wasn't "solved" in the end, and the impact of Piltover's apathy and violence wasn't brushed aside. Particularly if there had been a real undercity uprising plotline.

Luck and Cue!! I love those guys!

I'll start with what they do! Cue handles the more professional stuff, and inner workings of the family, while Luck is more like an ambassador, checking in on local business they're "partnered" with, befriending even those they're not, doing his best to make Aster a name with predominantly positive association for most.

Honestly not too dissimilar to how the Mafiafell brothers' work dynamic functions, too, except Cue handles the more official publicity type of stuff, and Luck usually handles the, uh. "Sensitive matters".

As for their relationship, it's still pretty good, if maybe a bit more distant than classic US. They do still look out for each other, that loyalty is absolutely still there, but things are just...a little stilted between them. Almost not as close as brothers, sort of more like very good old friends, but not entirely. A little hard to explain, but they do know each other very well, even with the rift that'd grown after having the torch passed to them.

Luck is a bit of a brat and loves to do things for the sole purpose of annoying Cue, however he learned very early on Cue wouldn't bail him out if he really wanted to teach him a lesson and is careful about taking things "too far".

Cue, while caring deeply for his brother, feels like entertaining his more rebellious nature is just coddling or humoring him, and he doesn't want to encourage that, so he can be a bit hard on him, but whose to say that isn't deserved?

They tend to step on each others toes, and neither really wanted to live this kind of life and sort of had it forced on them unexpectedly, but they cope with that in entirely different ways. Though it's still significantly better for both than it'd be if either had to do it alone, that's for sure

I don't know when exactly Nerdanel left Feanor, so I am choosing to believe that they 'divorced' when Feanor was banished from Tirion and Nerdanel refused to go with him and their sons to Formenos. But I also headcannon that things between them were bad long before that. As in, Amras and Amrod suffered from "Our Parents Should Divorce Already" situation.

i love my friends so much. i feel like yesterday i had a lot of shit going on in my head and i woke up to my friend explaining things in a way that put my mind at ease. i dont feel as anxious anymore because i know i was overthinking. i think my dad said it best when he told me that he thought my wonderful brain of mine just wants to think problems are bigger than they actually are. he is right! im just inexperienced in life and half of the time im scared im doing something wrong but- HEY. i need to be more confident in making mistakes. making mistakes doesn't define me as a person!! i need to stop worrying about doing life right and just live for the sake of living and doing what makes me happy!!!!!!!
