to find a cure and save them both they have to team up, and he quickly finds out that the resources the outlaw is stealing go to the thousands of people neglected on prison planets, and he has to go against what he thought was right to help them

#Lord of the Empty Isles #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #I enjoyed this quite a bit! But I think it could have gone a bit further in places.#It has some interesting concepts and a great cast of characters and yay no romance #I do have a lot of thoughts and little critiques...#it's p obvious where the plot is going and what's going to happen #There’s clearly a lot gone into developing this bond system but to be honest I still don’t entirely get it?#It seems to emphasise that the bonds just reflect connections between people rather than predetermine anything; but also the plot kind of #hinges on Remy and Idrian having a predetermined bond? There are a lot of explanations of intricacies but a lot of it didn’t sink in idk #It’s promoted as QP but to me it reads as a general platonic relationship. I generally expect a depiction of a QPR to have like..#some form of acknowledgement/depiction of the form of their relationship being a particular (undefinable?) kind #with some specific level of commitment? I’m being picky maybe they mean queerplatonic themes/vibes rather than saying it’s a qpr #specifically. the centred platonic relationship is good! it doesn't seem like a qpr to me; at most what could one day be that #also things are solved quite quickly and easily in the end - both the curse and the downfall of the bad guy.#I feared it would go down the route of blaming things on the person in charge rather than emphasising systemic issues which it kinda does….#It’s impossible to ignore right now just how deeply people are willing to believe dehumanising propaganda - and how 'telling the truth'#and exposing the person in power as bad doesn’t actually do anything so that happening here made me go…… oh okay. well.#there is room for a sequel that maybe will explore this tho. idk #complaints aside - I do recommend this! I think about The Universe for too long and now I've grown really attached to them I gave them headcanons that when measured by the Headcanon scale is on the red as: You made that tf up 😭. Anyway The Universe uses any pronouns but prefers they/them with the intent and purpose of referring to more than one being. Also they use the royal we.

so i'm playing through the xianzhou arc in honkai star rail and i am intrigued by how they tackle the subject matter of longevity and how deceptively desirable it seems from the outside through the lens of "long-life species" with disabilities aka dan shu. i'm still playing through the arc so i don't know what exactly to make of it (and tbh i think i need to research quite a bit on disabilities to really make a comprehensive opinion on the subject) but to be quite frank, i have never seen the angle of "how do those with disabilities deal with near immortality or so-called "perfect bodily regeneration" tackled before. huh.

#tho i am quite worried that the character that discusses the problems disabled people have with xianzhou longevity is um quite sus #(and the fact that they seem to side with the abundance aka what the xianzhou people establish as the bad guys)#i am quite interested in where the game will take this theme (and also scared because um wow this is kind of a delicate theme to explore)#(especially in a game about beating monsters up)#all in all i'm intrigued and i hOPE that the game will um treat the theme well because oh dear #but tbh the whole thing with the mara thing and how the blessing and curse of longevity + the unavoidable end of being mara struck #is very very interesting and i really fuckin like how that is established as a biological advantage and a tragedy for the xianzhou people #like it's very unique tbh at least for me #and the disability angle is quite unique too for me (tho i would to hope and pray that the game will explore it well because um yea)#(tons of implications ooooff we need to be careful with this one gfjdjf)#honkai star rail #hsr #xianzhou

hhhhhhhhhhhh saboace royalty au. ace was crown prince but can’t use magic which is necessary to become king, so he renounces his title and becomes infamous for his eccentric tendencies to play up the illusion that he’s truly not meant for the throne and that his younger sibling has full rights to the title of heir.

sabo is born to a family serving in the royal court, has been a genius magician since he was a child, and is the perfect example of a young man fully educated to serve at the king’s side. which is why he’s allowed himself to be tied down into a loveless political engagement with the king’s heir, putting the whims of his family before his own and resigning himself to become the future ruler’s consort/spouse to legitimize his role as an advisory right-hand man.

but then the heir grows rebellious and denounces the engagement with sabo in public and ace swoops in to save the day (and sabo’s reputation), demanding his father give sabo to him instead. he steals sabo away and challenges his sibling’s right to the throne, intent on earning back the title not for himself, but so he can make sabo (who is heavily qualified to rule) the king - and since they’ll be wed, no one will be able to undermine sabo’s position as he will technically be part of the monarchy that governs the kingdom.

ik's first response when raphael makes the offer would be to go "oh come on little raph, don't you realise god's full of shit" - i feel like it'd bewilder her at first that there's even a discussion to be had

she just goes "nah, they're not doing that." since she's used to world-hopping and settling in quickly, she probably finds it hard to understand the want to go back to a previous home once you've already settled into a new one

and while she's right in that none of the brothers actually want to go back, she's a little floored by the fact that some of them do consider it. and then she feels really bad for projecting how she feels about things onto them when she's supposed to be taking care of them (in this au, ik is the big brother)

raphael sort of gently tells her that "it's been so long since you last saw them, it's natural you don't know them as well. but why wouldn't they want to go home? don't you remember how happy they were back then?"

and then ik kinda overcompensates by going to lucifer like "little morningstar, if you want to go back home then you should do it, i'll stay here and take care of satan for as long as he needs me", only to find out that lucifer was planning to do the exact same thing... only for them BOTH to find out that literally all the brothers want to stay anyway

i think at this point satan would've warmed up to her a little, but he still pushes her away more often than not; ik promising to tether herself to the devildom (putting an end to her travelling) just to take care of him would probably put things into perspective for him, so it'd past this point that he becomes properly receptive to ik's big-brothering
