I think so much about the minor characters of PJOverse. Specifically in CHB. There are so many dynamics and friendship possibilities. Plus, as a multishipper, my brain hardly sleeps on those possibilities either. I just wish we had more canonical ages for other campers 😭😭.

Clarisse & Will's friendship is severely underrated, in my opinion. It's not talked about nearly enough. I like to think they met when Will was a relatively new camper. He started his training to see what he was good at, leading people to speculate who his godly parent was, and he started off sucking at most things, which was extremely shocking to most demigods there. No one probably meant to be rude, but it's a camp full of pre-teens & teens, so they definitely talked about it.

Clarisse found Will with a practice sword after curfew swinging it with angry tears in his eyes because he just wasn't good at it. She was impressed he managed to get passed the curfew harpies all on his own and watched him for a few minutes before confronting him. I think this would be where Will's distaste for his healing being his primary talent would stem as well due to the gossip mill of his early CHB days.

Clarisse ends up glaring at anyone who brings it up, and the gossip mill picks up on some other news, leaving Will's less than savory fighting abilities alone. No one really understands why she is protective of him, but Will ends up befriending her. It's even more of a shock when he gets claimed by Apollo due to the natural rivalry of the Apollo and Ares kids (fueled by Michael Yew).

After getting claimed, Will tries to mediate the best he can between his siblings and the Ares kids. I fully think the first person he came out as bisexual to was Lee Fletcher, but then he went and told Clarisse since she was his biggest support outside of his family. Obviously he was scared, but she told him he was pretty brave coming out, even if she doubted anyone would judge him, after all they were at a Greek camp for demigods.

I hc Clarisse as bisexual as well (you don't have to agree w/ me, just be respectful), so i think it's another thing they bonded over. If anyone ever said anything homophobic towards him, she would be there in record time.

Im sure this has all been said before but… people keep coming up with reasons why you actually shouldn’t ship Clarisse and Selina, or saying its crazy that people ever did, like what do you mean bro. tell 13 year old me that then because she missed the memo. What you mean I shouldn’t ship them? These two girls whose relationship was built into the PJO universe to expressly mirror Achilles and Patroclus? One of the most prominent queer love stories in history. These two girls, a daughter of Ares and a daughter of Aphrodite, where the daughter of Aphrodite is dating a son of Hephaestus? Mirroring their parents so incredibly specifically that you can’t even question the intent of it’s inclusion in the story. The way that entire situation introduces the idea of Hephaestus vs Ares as Expectation vs Passion? A choice SO queer in its undertones it makes me lose my shit. You don’t have to like them together, you can prefer Beckendorf, i loved Beckendorf too, but you cannot deny on some level Rick Riordan had intentions here. it was deliberate. This is the guy whose gone on to write some of the most visible queer characters in children’s fiction, no part of me believes he didn’t know what he was implying.

hopefully this post doesn’t age terribly LMAOOO but i genuinely think solangelo is NOT a bury your gays story. first of all, i think the purpose of nico’s whole character is gay people having a happy ending despite everything that happened to them. i do think they may be a patrochilles parallel, but maybe them in another universe where they get their happy ending. also nico is the son of hades, if either of them died i still don’t think it would be the end.

the REAL tragic patrochilles parallel in pjo are clarisse and silena, even though they were never explicitly romantic interests in the book— i think it’s how historians see patroclus and achilles. they all agree they loved each other but many say it was not romantic depending on who you ask. also both silena and clarisse have other opposite-gender love interests and i dont think rick wanted to depict cheating (even the fling silena had with luke is described to be from before she and beckendorf were together) (achilles had a wife as well btw but it was. the ancient times. they had other standards and weren’t 15 year olds in a war)

a lot of people have brought up tartarus, and while it is an example of loyalty, it's not a good example of how it's his fatal flaw.

loyalty isn't a trait unique to percy. most demigods are loyal to each other to the point of sacrifice (eg thalia's final stand of half-blood hill), so falling into tartarus doesn't show why percy's loyalty is unique. that's why i didn't include falling into tartarus. it was intentional.

i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

This has been in my ask box since may, and it’s been on my mind for a while.

So sorry I took ages to answer, I was waiting to finish the series so that I’d have all the relevant info (I’d heard Thalia x Reyna is a thing and I wanted to see for myself) don’t worry I HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU-

Also, Life has gotten pretty badly in the way of things lately.

Tbh I haven’t really seen/paid attention to the sapphic ships in PJO.

Currently, drafting this before BoO, I’d say it’s probably Ruegard (Selena x Clarisse). While I very much think Beckendorf and Selena were in love, you can’t have two same-sex characters parallel Patroclus and Achilles and NOT have them be queer-coded (Unless Rick genuinely believed that Patrochillies really were just platonic besties, which is objectively false and factually incorrect and gay erasure honestly Rick).

I think Dying For Each Other IS queer culture (Valgrace for LIFEEEE).

While I swear by Aro/Ace Reyna and will die on this hill, the ships she’s paired with are cute dynamics.

- Theyna is badass. It gives similar vibes to Buffy x Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (easily one of the non-canon sapphic ships of all time) I just love how when they first met Thalia kidnapped Reyna and Reyna hit her with a chair. I just see that and think “couple goals”.

- @demigod-shenanigans has forced me to think about Pipeyna and honestly yeah they would be really cute. Particularly their dynamic paired with Valgrace. I love Reyna and Jason’s friendship and I love her relationship with Leo.

- Reynabeth (is that a ship? It should be). Daughter of War Goddess x Daughter of War Goddess SUPREME!!!!

But also, we need more aro/ace rep in media. I heart my aro/ace siblings.

Pipabeth is also some of the most sapphic shit I’ve ever seen. I think it’s just RR not really knowing how female friendships work (or maybe it’s me never really having the kinda touchy-feely female friendship I see on TV all the time, and so being unable to comprehend that kind of platonic compassion, but I’m not gonna unpack that here) but you can’t tell me these aren’t two cottagecore lesbians collecting mushrooms and building a fence and shit that cottagecore lesbians do.

Also shoutout to Rachabeth and basically any sapphic Annabeth ship. She is bi in my mind.

Shelper is underdeveloped. There is so much potential in a mortal x demigod relationship that was explored a little bit with Perrachel but never fully. I need to write a fic about them at some point.

I mean, you’ve got the forbidden romance from being in the Hunters of Artemis turned marriage (Idk if they’re canonically married or not but they are in my mind) and you’ve got them being badass fighters and you’ve got them being moms to Leo and Georgina and basically everyone at the waystation. It seems like “giving up immortality for each other” is Rick’s standard for “true love” and Emmie and Jo did exactly that. I love them sm.
