Finally finished my ruegard fic I was working on, so here's a fic and fanart to go along with it! I initially drew this piece of them dancing and then @yendts and i came up with the idea for the fic so here it is 💖🐗🗡️

i know that ruegard (silena/clarisse) is tragic by itself, so for your sake, don’t think of silena. don’t think of silena falling in love with her opposite. don’t think of silena denying it, saying that she couldn’t love clarisse because that’s just not plausible. don’t think of silena forcing her feelings back and passing them on as something different, something smaller and less intense. because, she just couldn’t be in love with clarisse, that’s insane.

and, whatever you do, don’t think of clarisse. don’t think of clarisse fully and entirely loving silena, and knowing it, but being ruled by fear. fear of her father. fear of her siblings and the camp. what would they say? what would they think? don’t think of clarisse, who never got the three words off her chest.

see, thing is, achilles and patroclus loved each other openly. silena and clarisse loved each other in silence.

One of my favorite things to think about is fashion reflects who we are. It has always been something of a fascination to me ever since I was a little girl, and I like to think Silena had the same one. Silena had grown up at Camp since she was a teenager, and everyone wears the same shirt to symbolize that they are campers Silena did not wear her camp shirt everyday, not because she didn't see herself as a camper (even though in her mind, she was not a camper. She was a spy for the Titan Army and therefore not a true camper. She knew that if somebody, anybody knew - her role as a camper would disappear. She would had to die for the Titan Army to make sure that her people at camp, the people she signed up for, to make sure that they are safe, live. She loved Luke, don't get her wrong but her home is the people who hate him.) She rebels, not quite like Luke, but more in her own sense of style. She wore different outfits and accessories, but she always her bracelet thats he would use to commutate with the other side. She loved to design, and the outfits she made - everyone in her cabin love to see her outfits. Lacy and Drew in particular grew up worshipping the ground Silena walked on (it hit Lacy so hard when she died. Seeing the relationship between Charles Beckendorf and Silena Beauregard made her believe in love, and to know that in reality she was being with Luke.) Silena would add a certain flare to her outfits, knowing it made the boys at camp interested (she felt that she had to, had to be craved by boys to be needed). Silena studied magic but she also studied how different outfits change the perspective people have. She grew up at camp knowing that she has to make her mom proud (she and annabeth used to sip their tea's each sadly sharing that their mothers don't care. Annabeth used to spend her time sharing how all she wants is a quest to make her mom and Luke proud, and Silena used to wipe away her makeup saying she felt like she had to wear makeup to make her mom happy). Clarisse knew that silena felt more like herself when her nose was in a book studying magic and petting the pegusus...knowing what she knows now Clarisse hopes Silena is happy in Elysium makeup-less and in love.

Okay, so I'm currently in the process of reading The Last Olympian, and I just finished the chapter where Silena dies and Clarisse joins the battle. Now, call me crazy, but this whole situation sounded exactly like what happened with Achilles and Patroclus.

So let me walk you through the events in question.

Clarisse refuses to fight in the war against Kronos for petty, personal reasons, and when Silena sees that they are losing, she goes to get Clarisse and the rest of the Ares Cabin. But when Silena can't convince Clarisse to come, Silena dresses up in Clarisse's armor and pretends to be her as she leads the Ares Cabin into battle. Her disguise works at rallying her allies and momentarily confusing her enemies, but the minute that it comes time for her to actually fight, Silena is immediately killed by the Drakon. When Clarisse sees what Silena has done, she immediately charges into battle and kills the Drakon in seconds, and then continues to completely obliterate the opposing forces out of grief, anguish and fury, turning the tide of the war. Then Clarisse ties the body of the Drakon to the back of her chariot and does laps around the city while dragging the corpse behind her to serve as a warning to the opposing army, while also taunting Kronos and his forces.

And if that doesn't sound familiar, let me remind you of what happened with Achilles and Patroclus during the Trojan War.

Achilles refused to fight in the war because of petty, personal reasons. Patroclus tried to convince Achilles to fight, but when it didn't work, Patroclus put on Achilles's armor and rode off into battle pretending to be him in order to rally their forces and scare off the opposing army. This worked in intimidating the enemy and inspiring their allies, but that was it. When it actually came time for Patroclus to fight, he was killed almost immediately by Hector. Then, when Patroclus's body is brought back to camp, Achilles discovers what Patroclus has done, and is so overcome with grief, agony and rage that he storms onto the battlefield almost immediately and goes on a vicious murder spree and almost single-handedly turns the tide of the war in the Athenians' favor. Then, Achilles ties Hector's body to the back of his chariot and does laps around the city dragging the corpse behind him to serve as a warning to anyone watching what happens when you slight Achilles.

I am positive that Rick Riordan did not do this intentionally, because both Silena and Clarisse have boyfriends and are established as being best friends, and their respective romances are very well-written for side characters, so I am almost 100% positive that this wasn't meant to be a parallel to Achilles and Patroclus.........

BUT AT THE SAME TIME

There are way too many similarities between those two stories for it to be nothing!

Watching Silena makes Clarisse feel like a scientist observing a rare specimen. Her gaze clings to different aspects of Silena’s face: her delicate eyelashes, fluttering every time she takes a deep breath; the soft curve of her cheeks and the piece of hair that keeps brushing against it. The breeze knocks her hair out of place, and she watches it return perfectly to where it was before. Silena Beauregard is an artwork you could admire for hours on end. Clarisse could trace every detail and never get bored. What if Clarisse had more time to spend with her best friend? In another life, they could be normal high schoolers hanging out after school and doing dumb girly shit. Talking about boys and combing each other’s hair. Clarisse wishes she had a hundred lifetimes to spend watching Silena gnaw at her pretty pink lips. She could spend another thousand following the subtle twitches of her meticulously plucked eyebrows. And ten thousand more analyzing the rise and fall of her chest.

Or, Silena wants Clarisse to relax, and Clarisse gets distracted. She's trying.

Annabeth has so many memories of listening to Logical. First memory that she ever had of it was in the Aphrodite cabin. Silena had gotten the GUTS vinyl and she had played this song on repeat. Annabeth only needed total battle strangdies in cabin 9, Hephaestus but she couldn't hear herself think over the loud music. Everyone knew not to interrupt the Aphrodite cabin when new music came out from the “real gods” ("The real god are Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, and Maisie Peters. Not our parents" was Silena's favorite line to use during album releases). GUTS was one that the Aphrodite cabin had been playing, everyone was getting sick of it, which only made it worse. Even Drew, Silena’s right hand girl was getting sick of love is embarrassing. Annabeth didn’t mind it too much - she likes her voice and find the song Ballad of a homeschool girl really relatable (especially when her dad rolled her into an all girls high school). Silena, though she loved Logical and Vampire which a majority of camp was confused by. To their knowledge, she loves love and has never been hurt by it. (But the passing looks between Cabin 11 head counselor, and the shine of a sinning reminder say otherwise.) “It’s just songs that unite teenage girls pain” is what she always says. Annabeth knew that she loved being the Aphrodite girl who loves love but even Annabeth, despite their three year, can tell something had happened to make silena this way. Silena had started playing get him back! even when she laughed at Katie's ask if she was okay. "Olivia gets me" she would insist - but besides Katie, Clarisse and Annabeth try to get her to open up, Silena seemed the same to everyone at camp. It wasn't until Logical started playing years later, Silena's headstone staring right at her, Annabteh knew. She knew that Silena did a lot to protect Annabeth, but she too was just a girl.
