Where does Bj power come from? Is Dolores more powerful than him?
I've been thinking about this for a bit, so I'm happy I got this question. I don't think the movies have made it clear, but I have my own little theory about how you get powers in the afterlife.
We know it's not only because he is a demon that Betelgeuse has powers. We have seen at least one other ghost before Betel and Delores shown to have some power of her own, and that was Juno the caseworker in the first movie.
She was the one to put Dante's Inferno in the model and put the demon girls there to distract Betelgeuse. So Juno, despite not being a demon herself, has powers of her own.
This leads me to believe that you don't have to be a demon or other entity to have powers in the Neitherworld. (I talk below about what I think creates a demon or other entity in the afterlife). Now, becoming more and more powerful is possible for those spirits that become something else, like Betelgeuse and Delores. My own personal theory is that their power comes from three places:
The amount of time the soul has been roaming the Neitherworld.
How deeply they've become knowledgeable of the rules of the Neitherworld (both Juno and Betelgeuse were civil servants), so they know how to navigate the afterlife and what they can and cannot do as spirits.
The circumstances of their deaths and what they were doing near their death.
Both Betelgeuse and Juno know the ins and outs of the Neitherworld as civil servants. Betelgeuse has not only this knowledge, but he has also been around for hundreds of years, learning all he can and trying to figure out a way to get himself out of that state because for him that whole "being dead thing is just too creepy". He wants out, so he's taught himself all he can to manifest on the other side and use his spirit body in all sorts of ways.
Now, he is a LOT more powerful than someone like Juno because of what he became. Betelgeuse is not a regular ghost; he has been canonically referred to as a demon over both films.
We have to take into account the circumstances of his death and what he did before. I don't want to say he was a lowly person, because we don't really have enough information (he was a grave robber but he might have been struggling, so I don't think being a robber qualifies him as a bad person necessarily), but he did partake in a dark ritual at his wedding (his wedding to Delores looked pretty "satanic"). So he committed dark acts before his death that tainted his soul, not to mention the vengeful murder after being poisoned. Personally I'd say he participated in that dark ritualistic wedding to please Delores, because I think he's more of a traditional, romantic wedding kind of guy, based on the weddings he has prepared himself for Lydia, but I'm diverting from the topic here.
What I want to say is that these darks acts already altered his soul. It may be why he was unable to pass on and became a civil servant in the afterlife (not to mention I think his soul has an attachment to the ritual of marriage, due to having been betrayed and murdered on his wedding night). His soul is bound and tainted, and he cannot pass on; he needs to serve some time as a civil servant on the other side. But he never finished serving, so that was the first step to becoming something "else". Eventually, with the passage of time, his soul transformed from just a regular, yet tainted soul, into something different, which Juno called a demon and I often like to think of as a poltergeist. All the time he's spent as this entity, learning all he can and separating himself more and more from the souls that eventually can pass on to the great beyond, has given him more and more power, is what I think, as he is more like supernatural force than a spirit at this point.
As for Delores, she is a soul-sucker entity in the afterlife because of the cult she participated in before her death. At death she wouldn't be able to pass on like other souls to the great beyond because of her dark acts at the end of her life, which shaped her soul into something different, the same thing that happened with Betel's soul. She was not only murdered; she herself committed murder on the night of her death, and surely she had killed others before Betelgeuse. These acts tainted her soul and made it so she cannot pass on to the great beyond. Now after her death she exists as this soul-sucking entity, and I believe the more time she spends as this entity, the more powerful she can become.
I think Betelgeuse is more powerful than Delores. Delores needs to be near her victims to suck their souls out; as far as I remember she needs to be directly in front (I gotta watch the movie again, but that's what I remember), and while she may have remote control of others (as in to hold them in place, push them aside as she did Lydia, etc), I don't think she could be able to hold Betelgeuse in place long enough to suck out his soul and finish him off. If they were to have a supernatural fight, I think unless she resorted to dirty tricks like putting Lydia in danger or something like that, Betelgeuse would win (though he seemed pretty scared of facing her). I think Betel has a lot more tricks he can use and is overall more powerful and experienced with the afterlife and how to manage his own power than she is. I just think he is more of a prankster type with his power; he's not one to be harming others for laughs just because (he has harmed others when he's been called to help by Lydia and the Maitlands, but other than that he doesn't go around hurting other spirits for shits and giggles), and he certainly isn't a fighter. I think he's more laid back, so he would avoid fight if he could.
Let's keep in mind also that Delores was in pieces in locked boxes in a storage room for over 600 years, so she's pretty "new" to the afterlife despite having died all those years ago. She must have been marinating in hateful vengeance and longing all aimed at Betelgeuse while she waited to be freed in those boxes... I gotta say this character deserves so much better. We needed to see her be a real threat to be reckoned with. I wanted her gone so bad, and I was scared she was going to suck Betelgeuse's soul whenever she was onscreen, but in the end she didn't do much. I thought it'd be harder to get rid of her (and I really thought she was going to go after Lydia, with the way she smashed her photo). I'm hoping for her comeback in the third movie.
To finish this off, I think the real answer to this question will probably never be answered, unless maybe in behind the scenes content or Tim Burton interviews etc. Heck, maybe Tim has answered it and I just don't know lol. Maybe the cartoon has its own answer, too, but these are my two cents!
The Tl;Dr version (because I tend to write a lot 😅): My headcanon is that Betelgeuse's power comes from how much his soul has deviated from humanity, and what he was doing near his time of death, which tainted his soul. Might be a reason why Betel was a civil servant, to "cleanse" that soul before passing on (we now know he didn't unalive himself), if he could even move on after cleansing his soul, that is, because I personally think his soul is bound and won't be able to move on until liberated from that attachment (that's my Betelgeuse and marriage theory). But he never finished his time of serving, so he as a soul in the netherworld became something else (demon, poltergeist), and that's how he continued to gain more and more power over the years, using his knowledge of the afterlife and existing in that state for so long.

WIP of Party Time
《mun: this has been sitting stagnant in my notes app for so long it's kinda ridiculous. Lemme know if you want me to continue this, because I've kind of lost motivation on this wip. Also sorry if the characterization feels off, I'm still trying to figure out how to write the canon characters in a way that feels like them, ya know?》
Screw burst in the door, clutching his holopad and grinning like a maniac.
"Guys!"
Tup and Dogma glanced up from the sabacc game they were playing on an overturned crate. Fives was flopped upside down on a bunk, watching the game.
"Hey, vod," Tup said, smiling softly.
"Judging from the grin on your face, I'd guess you're up to something," Dogma mused. Screw nodded enthusiastically, coming to stand before the crate.
"Remember Enrad?" he asked, eyes shining with excitement.
Tup nodded, sitting up straighter. "The mop from the maintenance closet?"
Screw nodded excitedly. "And remember how we have nothing else going on today?"
"What are you planning?" Dogma asked shrewdly.
"A party!" Screw exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air. "For Enrad!"
"A party?" Fives yelped. "I'm in!" He excitedly scrambled upright.
"A bit random, but I'm in too!" Tup cheered, throwing his cards down.
"And Dogma, I was hoping you could help get it organized and such," Screw said. "I don't want to get in trouble because I overlooked or forgot something again."
Dogma nodded. "I can do that, brother. I'll also doublecheck the rules to make sure we can actually throw a party. From what I remember, though, it should be fine as long as it doesn't divert unnecessary attention and resources."
"Thanks," Screw smiled.
"Have you told Hardcase yet?" Fives asked.
"I-- couldn't find him," Screw answered. "I looked everywhere; no luck. Do any of you know where he is?" There was a collective shaking of heads. Screw frowned. "Hmm. Maybe we'll find him as we're gathering stuff for Enrad's party." There was a slight pause.
"Now," Screw continued. "What are things we need at a party?" He pulled out a stylus and opened the notes on his holopad.
"Food!" Fives said. "Since Enrad is a mop we should do nonmessy things, so he doesn't have to clean it later."
Screw nodded as he jotted it down. "So, like, uhhmm, uh, ehh, fruit? Do we even have any fruit?"
Dogma creased his eyebrows in thought. "We might have some dried fruit or those fruit sticks from rations, but I don't know how many. Send me your notes when we're done and I'll figure those things out." Screw nodded, scribbling a note to himself.
"Don't parties have decorations too?" Tup asked.
"Oh yeah, Tup," Screw said. "We could have like streamers or something like I saw once on the holonet. Oh, one time I saw this thing that was like a ball covered in fragments of a mirror, hanging from the ceiling. Lights wouldn't be messy."
"Where are we holding this party at?" Dogma queried.
"There's this conference room that I could find out if we could use," Fives volunteered. "The table's not in the middle, it's in the back. Perfect for putting snacks on." Dogma nodded as Screw scribbled down a note about the location.
"And what other food options should we have, in case the fruit isn't a viable option?" Dogma added.
"Those wrap things from the mess are pretty nonmessy," Tup suggested. "They just drop chunks of the filling, which is easy enough to clean up if it's those meat cubes or whatever."
"Genius," Screw said, writing it down. "Oh, I've heard of this thing called pizza that civvies have at a lot of parties. It could be worth a look into."
Fives steepled his fingers together, brows furrowed. "What about . . . party hats?" He smiled maniacally as Screw's face lit up.
"YES!" Screw hollered.

Though adding on from my tags about the Beacon-era teenage romances in aspoonofsugar's post... that doesn't mean it's a successful idea for everybody. Especially when the Beacon-era ended up crystallised as what R/WBY-the-show is.
I think the more adult-but-fairytale relationships are inherently more interesting than any of the Beacon-era romances, but I can see why it fails for some people. Blake and Yang's separation is what makes their romance more serious. Growing up and confronting vulnerability makes their romance more serious. But textually everybody paid attention to the cutesy ship tropes: meet-cute, meet the parents, slapstick type shit.
Even the Jaune/Weiss stuff from Beacon-era is enough to make people think that will be his canon endgame, or that Jaune/Pyrrha is endgame forever. Even if in respect to the canon ships (e.g. Ren/Nora, Blake/Yang) it doesn't have the same framing.
So in essence: I think there are interesting ideas there about serious romance, and fairytale-grounded romance. But even if you set up one thing to be a type of foil, you still need to justify why you did that and resolve it. I think Jaune/Weiss and Jaune/Pyrrha are both successfully resolved (well first in V3, but then V5 he saved Weiss out of selflessness, not romantic intent, and diverted his focus away from revenge to protection; Jaune/Pyrrha was resolved in V6 with the statue scene, and the impossibility of killing Salem changing/not changing her decision, the fact she was a product of an apparently useless war... that sort of thing... questions about his character arc aside for now, because I have some thoughts... however, on the Jaune/Weiss note, I suppose most people assume that to be canon because... it seems like it should be? Pair them up I guess).
Also something interesting about Ren/Nora I noticed recently, just to put it here: Ren/Nora revisits two Jaune/Pyrrha scenes, the handholding (V3/V4) and the kiss (V3/V7), both of which are framed the same way. Except they're ultimately good, I think?
Nora doesn't die the next volume, Jaune's able to help heal her. They're figuring their stuff out. A kiss isn't an indication in the show that everything's fine and fixed (i.e. Kiss of Death for Jaune/Pyrrha) but I do think their relationship is intentionally fit to mirror Jaune/Pyrrha, and potentially even Blake/Sun, as the 'good' anime trope romance. A reconstructed romance. It's not a cynical deconstruction.
So, I'm sure there's something to parse there about the ship patterns... I don't think it's perfect, but I think with the direction of RN and BB I am pretty optimistic (touch wood) for the future of other possible ships lol. The intertextuality of the ships seems important... the stories within stories stuff... I think I've come to the conclusion RN's intertextuality itself is the anime, it's just the one good one lol.
#stirring the pot#me talking shit about jaune/weiss#me talking shit about jaune/pyrrha#soz not soz#but tbf if jaune/pyrrha had gone any harder I would've called fridged girlfriend and quit the show#and then never even had the opportunity to debate jaune/cinder as a ship lolololol#this is actually a really important point#and probably my biggest issue with jaune/pyrrha#I think most renderings of it in fanon are extremely cringey#and in the canon itself they were this || close to being cringey fringed girlfriend territory and manpain#on paper jaune should be a terrible character#instead he's like#great#and I want more pain and violence#and ROMANCE

I've always seen stories portraying Zhuilingyi with LJY as the one to join SZ/JL, which is good and all, gimme all that LJY angst - but consider: LSZ and LJY are childhood friends and get together probably before canon starts, and JL is the awkward third wheel who starts falling for them and reacts very badly when he figures it out.LJY screams at him for being a prissy princess and not telling them how he feels and then kisses him and LSZ's just. Smiling at both of them and blushing like crazy.
sorry it took me so long to reply, but your ask changed my life and i had to write something about this moment, because you’re absolutely right -we need more flustered!jl in this universe.
just, i thought it’d be shorter, but honestly i couldn’t limit myself into commenting your idea and nothing more. FORGIVE THIS FOOLISH MASTER!
“Formation!”
Lan JingYi nods swiftly, all previous chattiness gone from his demeanour. He follows Lan SiZhui with practiced steps, dancing lethally but gracefully around their prey. He seems as elegant as the other, a quality one would not think JingYi capable of -which is just stupid, he is a Lan, after all, they are born like that.
Jin Ling’s heart thunders in his chest. He grips the handle of his sword, grits his teeth, but he doesn’t close his eyes.
They stay wide open, and take everything in -the resentful energy leaving the corpses under the array created by SiZhui and JingYi’s combined strength, they perfect coordination, pure white robe swaying in the night wind and blades flashing sleek and crystal clear as entities of their own.
The corpses stop moving, falling on the ground, and the two Lan disciples halt, breathes not even heavy, energy quivering excitedly around them and on their faces.
SiZhui’s ponytail winds up on his left shoulder, forehead ribbon fluttering for a moment. The boy’s relief gentles his facial features, but the residual rush from the battle still lingers on his contracted arms, straight back, drawn sword, vigilant and focused eyes.
He throws a side glance at the other side of the formation, nodding in silent acknowledgement at his childhood friend.
JingYi’s mouth opens in a wide grin, the smooth skin at the corners and on his cheekbones wrinkling in a joyful expression, forelock swinging and trying futilely to cover the twinkling in his irises. He seems on the verge of saying something -stops when SiZhui tosses something. JingYi catches it swiftly, laughing at the sight of a juicy looking loquat -Wei WuXian must have rubbed it off on him in the long run. Things like how did you know I was hungry? and As if I still need to ask you hover between them, needless to voice out loud.
Then, SiZhui turns and walks toward him, smiling tenderly at Jin Ling. So they know I’m still here he huffs, eyeing warily the loquat he is being offered.
Lan SiZhui, “You should eat, Young Master Jin. It is important to retain one’s strength until the very end.”
Jin Ling knows, he is not stupid, nor does he need all this curtesy and big words and long sentences every time he is being addressed by either of them.
He hesitates, sheathes away his sword, falters toward SiZhui. Hears JingYi giggles at his clumsiness and blushes angrily at the patient gleam in the boy’s gaze when he reaches out at snatches the loquat, being careful not to touch his hand.
A second passes, then two. SiZhui lowers his arm and presses his lips tight.
“Let’s keep going and be careful, we are almost home” he advices, and goes back to JingYi’s side. The boy, though, keeps his gaze on Jin Ling’s grumpy expression, a tactful glance from SiZhui warning him from saying anything rude or too nosey. He rolls his eyes and looks over at the Lanling Young Master -Jin Ling notices.
“What?” he bursts out, all his muscles tensing and quaking in shame under their bewildered expressions.
“I didn’t even say anything!” JingYi protests before SiZhui can hold him back.
Jin Ling, “Then why were you looking at me like that?”
Lan JingYi, “Like that? Like what?!”
“JingYi…” SiZhui admonishes, putting a hand on his shoulder. JingYi relaxes slightly, but a frown still mars his features.
Jin Ling clenches his fists and diverts his gaze elsewhere, walking forward and moving past the two of them, slowly abandoning their hunting field.
He hears JingYi complain about something, but his whining is cut short -probably thanks to SiZhui. Jin Ling bites his lips until the physical pain he feels is stronger than the black hole in his stomach and the confusion in his mind -until it is louder than the worried whispers behind his back and the shuddering questions burning into his veins.
—
JingYi is staring at him.
He tries to not react, to make it seem as if he has not noticed yet -though how can he, when he is sitting exactly in front of him, back at him, JingYi’s gaze piercing it as if he was attempting to set Jin Ling’s robe aflame.
Lan WangJi has probably noticed as well and decided to not say anything, to just keep going with his lesson. As long as no one interrupts him or distracts the other disciples, there was no true need to assign punishment.
Jin Ling knows he has to endure it.
He also knows he has no explanation to give him.
It’s not like he is not aware that he is behaving strangely -it feels stupid in his eyes, too. The truth is, every little thing the Lan boys do irritates him.
How they don’t need to talk to understand each other, and appear to use common speech only when they want to relate something to him. How perfectly they fit one other while night-hunting -how beautiful they are while doing so, Jin Ling bitterly adds.
He has always noticed these little things but then, then they had to invite him to Cloud Recesses to study with him for a bit and his uncle had to accept their offer, because do you have a good enough reason to refuse the Lan’s kind offer, Jin Ling?
As a matter of fact, he does not -and that’s what makes thing worse. How can he explain to his uncle something he can’t fully grasp himself?
And then he had to see them silently sneak away after dinner the first day, JingYi holding SiZhui’s hand tightly and the other smirking at him while they made their way between the trees, in a more secluded area.
He didn’t know what possessed him to follow them -what made him keep quiet when he saw them whispering with such comfort, smile with such confidence, kiss with such ease it was clearly not the first time for them.
Jin Ling felt quite flustered and confused -but more than that, he had no explanation for how strongly he had reacted to that. The way his chest had tightened slightly, something similar to envy weighing down on him, similar but not identical -he knows it wasn’t simple like that, he was accustomed to envy and could easily recognise it, though not accept it. The way he had been unable to tear his gaze away, shamefully following the path drawn by SiZhui’s fingers on JingYi’s side when he gently coddled him against a tree, the boy softly moaning his name and smiling lovely while his neck got peppered his little kisses.
The way his body had responded to that -and how he fled the scene so quickly, he got reprimanded with a no running in Cloud Recesses by a laughing Wei WuXian, among all.
Accepting to go night-hunting with them weeks later had been more a flustered mistake than a heartfelt agreement. He had bitterly watched them triumph as the perfect team over and over again, too focused on chasing that strange envy away to register how little he had participated -and how that had baffled the Lan boys.
Jin Ling keeps his eyes on Lan WangJi and tries to ignore everything else, but he cannot run from his own thoughts and feelings much longer.
—
Release me!”
“Not gonna happen”
“JingYi, maybe you should consider-”
“I won’t consider a damn thing! I’ve had enough!”
“What the hell are you talking about?! Release me this instant-”
“There” JingYi says, with a note of finality in his voice, and Jin Ling stumbles backward, back hitting a rock wall. He is breathing hard, not from actual exertion but rage and dread, sweaty hands clamping behind him.
“Are you insane-” he starts, but the other stops him almost immediately.
“Shut up, whiny mistress! You either are like this or ignore us, I’m going insane!”
“JingYi, we won’t resolve a thing like this!” SiZhi tries to interfere, planting himself between the two. Jin Ling can’t see his face, but JingYi puffs his cheeks and lowers his eyelids, diverting his gaze. Turns it back on them a moment later, arms tensing on his sides.
“We have handled this as you wanted and it didn’t work, now we are gonna do it my way” he retorts, eyes burning in determination.
SiZhui sighs, bites his lip, shakes his head and looks down.
“Alright” he complies. His eyes focus on Jin Ling and the boy feels like he should take a step back -he can’t, the rock wall threateningly solid against his back.
He swallows, unable to old their gaze.
Jin Ling, “What’s wrong with you two? Why did you bring me here?!”
“Young Master-”
(Jin Ling starts clenching his fists at the formality in his tone)
Lan JingYi, “You’ve been avoiding us, don’t deny it!”
The Lanling boy lifts his chin, irises jumping between the two Lan disciples.
Jin Ling, “What are you talking about?! Did you eat too much bland congee and it finally went to your head?!” he says, the frenetic rhythm of his heartbeat making him all the more flustered. Why are they looking at me like that?
Lan SiZhui elbows JingYi on his side, receiving a dirty look. The boy ignores him, taking a deep breath.
“Jin Ling” he calls, clear and light and warm, before moving a bit and taking his hand.
Jin Ling’s eyes widen, his heart trembling in his chest and the rest of him going dead still. His lips part, but nothing comes out, and he grips his robe with his free fingers.
“I’m sorry if we scared you. We just… we wanted to know if we did something wrong, because it really feels like you’ve been avoiding us” he murmurs, trying to keep his tone reassuring and diplomatic -not suspecting how that gentleness and his closeness is killing every ability of functioning like a normal human being Jin Ling owns.
He opens his mouth again, wanting nothing more than to deny it again and run away, but JingYi’s eyes are pleadingly and anxiously staring at him, and Sizhui’s fingers are still holding his.
He quivers.
Jin Ling, “Why do you care?”
Not another word.
Lan JingYi, “What does that mean? We are your friends-”
“Maybe I shouldn’t be your friend! I wouldn’t want to intrude between you two or anything!”
Don’t say it, it’ll make you look weird, you’ll be the strange one all over again and they won’t want to have you with them.
Lan SiZhui frowns, pulling him toward him by the hand, but Jin Ling notices the understanding flashing quickly in JingYi’s irises.
You’ll be cast aside again.
Lan SiZhui, “Why would you? We invited you here!”
Jin Ling, “So that I could work as a disguise, cover for you? Do you think I am an idiot?!”
Why can’t you be less strange?
Lan JingYi, “It makes no sense! You made your head think too much, we actually-”
Jin Ling flashes a ireful look at him.
“I don’t care! If you wanna kiss or whatever, do it when I’m not here!”
He clumps his mouth shut. Dread slowly fills his veins, closing his throat with a knot, and he suddenly feels dizzy from talking too much. And he did -he said too much.
He frees his hand from SiZhui’s grasp and moves, feeling ashamed, so ashamed, what he had told himself was envy melting away and revealing itself for what it actually is -longing, fierce and overwhelming, enough to justify the wetness in his eyes.
Jin Ling freezes and JingYi snaps, seizing his arm.
“Are you-”
“Jealous?” the Lanling boy interrupts, abruptly prying his arm away once more and turning to face them. “Of you two spending so much time together alone, thinking I’m not aware of your- your- whatever it is?! Yes, I am! It angers me so much and I don’t know why! I shouldn’t even care, it’s your business! Yet here I am, yelling at you because you keep being all polite to me and treating me like an outsider but- but-”
Jin Ling can’t bring himself to say the rest, a reason swiftly climbs back into his head -making him realise that he did, indeed, said all those things.
They are going to hate him, of course. How could anyone-
JingYi, “You are the most idiotic mistress I’ve ever met”
Jin Ling tries to counteract that -he is ready, the next insult hesitating on the tip of his tongue-
but JingYi cages his cheeks with his palms and brings him closer, not giving him time to think or even oppose him.
Kisses him with vicious intensity and burning determination, lips pulsing on Jin Ling’s, whose hands fly on his shoulder to fight back a fainting spell.
JingYi’s mouth is rough but slow, caring but raging, and he almost -almost lets himself go, shock dominating every fiber of his being-
-he pushes him away, and JingYi lets him be. Jin Ling’s eyes stops on Lan SiZhui, terrified of his reaction, but the older boy -cheeks aflame, lips parted, breathe eluding a natural rhythm- doesn’t show him what he feared. His irises are sparkling, wild with something that scares Jin Ling more than anger itself.
“Y-you- he-”
Jin Ling is confused, but JingYi’s arm wrapping around his waist, his signature grin on his face, and SiZhui moving toward them with shy but relieved steps, gives him the reassurance he didn’t know he needed.
“We both want you” JingYi whispers in his ears, and Jin Ling shivers and blushes desperately, outraged and on fire.
“So, if you want us both…” SiZhui tentatively tries, going for Jin Ling’s hand again.
He doesn’t let go -squeezes it with all the strength he could muster in that moment, which isn’t much, and gathers all the courage he owns to reach out for SiZhui nape and bring him closer, clumsily kissing him before he can think that’s a bad idea.
JingYi tightens his hold and SiZhui hugs him with his unoccupied arm, tilting his head up with his lips and nuzzling Jin Ling’s tenderly, then drawing back.
They all smile and Jin Ling can’t bear it anymore -he looks down, away, face burning and lungs constricting in a kind of pain he already loves, and they are still here, still keeping him close, no more walls made of formality or misunderstandings to divide them and no one to intrude or witness, for this moment is theirs and theirs only.

I've Literally Just Finished Reading QoAaD
So I've decided to make a list of things I thought would happen that didn't happen and thing I didn't think would happen that did. As there are spoilers, both lists are below.
Things I Expected To Happen But Didn't
· I'm going to start with Kitty, obviously. It nearly happened! Under different circumstances Kit and Ty probably would have gotten together. But with everything that was happening with Livvy and the Cohort (especially Livvy) I probably should have realized how unlikely it was. However, I think Kit knew he was in love with Ty before he actually said it, just from the way he didn't seem to know what he was saying. He had clearly thought about it before, even if he hadn't intended to say it then. I'll stop there with Kitty, but I'll probably make a post about it when I can figure out way to talk about it without it shattering my heart.
· I expected something bad to happen with Ty raising Livvy. Like, something Earth-shatteringly bad.
· For some reason I can't think of anything else.
Things I Didn't Expect To Happen That Did
· Kierarktina. I didn't think Cassie would have been brave enough to do it for some reason. But she did and I'm so happy that they actually got together! And managed to stay together despite the circumstances!
· THE MALEC WEDDING!!! Oh my god!!! I was reading it at school today with my friends at the same table, and I had to tell my friend who hasn't read the books but adores the TV Show because she was someone who would understand! Oh my god it was amazing!!!!
· The Shadowhunters who weren't in the Cohort having to leave Idris. That was a big one! But for some reason it didn't shock me very much. I'm not sure why. It did shock me, quite a lot, but not as much as some things did.
· I didn't expect Kit to leave voluntarily. I also didn't expect Ty to want to go to the Scholomance, even after everything. I don't know why.
· I didn't expect to be told about Kit's being part faerie so soon. I expected to find out later, following Kit as he himself found out.
· I didn't expect to be right about Kit's mom being the Herondale. That's why I never mentioned it on here. But I WAS right, and I'm so so happy!
· I didn't expect the Parabatai curse to be broken in the way it was. It made so much sense that that would be how once I'd read it, but before I actually had no clue how that would be handled.
· I didn't expect Diana to tell everyone that she was trans. I didn't really expect her not to, either, though. It's complicated!
· I didn't expect one of my favourite things about fiction to be incorporated; alternate universes! I love alternate universes! They are the best! And Thule was incredible! It was evil, horrible, but amazing and brilliant at the same time! I loved Thule!
I'm going to leave it at that for now. I'm planning on writing MY Kitty ending at some point, which would only divert from Canon in Kitty's respect.
But oh my god my heart is in a million pieces! I told everyone that the red paging was from the blood of my heart, but nobody would believe me!
