Random Chance headcanons that are fueled by me being a Chance fictive.

- Chance has ADHD (and probably autism, but he never got that diagnosed)! Casinos and casino games are a long time hyperfixation, but he's also hyperfixated on card + magic tricks, bunnies, guns, languages and many random video games or series. Ultrakill was a past hyperfixation, and where they picked up flipping a coin. It's a stim.

^- The "Let's go gambling!" audio is also a stim.

- Chance flirts with so many people. Survivors, killers, random people he meets, old coworkers and very rarely, patrons at his casino. He doesn't even realize he's doing it sometimes. He just starts talking, and next thing you know, he's being saying pick-up lines in between stories and lines and jokes. Sometimes it is on purpose. It's a coin flip.

^- When they don't realize they're doing it, they get shocked and confused when people start hitting on them. They take it in stride, most of the time, but are massively confused the whole time.

^^- He also sometimes just shuts down when someone flirts back. They don't know how to interact when someone actually shows interest in him?? They just. kinda go with as best they can, while panicking inside over it. The only time he doesn't struggle with people flirting with him is casino patrons. He often just shuts that down as quickly and easily as he can.

- Chance has a habit of falling for. anyone and everyone they meet. He just gets intrigued and infatuated by people easily. They can't really tell if it's an actual crush though, since romance confuses them, because of his ADHD.

^- This means that he probably has thought, or actually had, a crush on many of the killers and survivors. The main ones are Two Time, Noli, Mafioso and ITrapped.

^^- Two Time, simply because he thinks they're very intriguing and loves the way they speak and act. Yeah, it's a little weird sometimes, but very endearing. And they don't ever question or look at him weird for his ADHD symptoms and lets him infodump.

^^^- Noli? Okay, listen. Peak meme guy that responded to Chance's flirting and nonsense with passion. They kinda just. became dazed and confused by that. Everything about Noli is just eye-catching to him, and he just thinks they're cool, in ways he can't really explain. He just likes the killer. (Purely self indulgent. I just really like the Noli in our partner system.)

^^^^- Mafioso? Knew his group from the casino, and bonded with the group, and never really outgrew his admiration for the boss. Similar situation with ITrapped. Past / old feelings that never really died out.

- Really, really hates cheating of any kind. Which is why he hates anytime c00lkidd says the survivors are cheating. Because they don't want to be a cheater, but they also don't want to die, so he can't "play fair" in c00lkidd's eyes. So anytime he has a round with c00lkidd, Chance will have the habit of. kinda hiding and waiting it out. Try not to interact with c00lkidd as best he can.

^- The others have called him out on this and asked about it, but they don't really have an answer that would make sense to anyone that isn't them. (It feels almost physically painful to be considered a cheater.)

- Being without his meds, has fucked with Chance a bit. They've been on them for most of their life, so he doesn't really know how to act without them. He tries to mask as best he can, but they are failing. Badly /lh.

And now: a comprehensive analysis on Eddie Dear’s drag persona

(Or at least how I interpret it✨)

The Tiara:

Ah, starting this off with the glittery tiara sitting atop Eddie’s head. Its royalty and elegance is easy to notice, and its glimmer emphasizes the brightness Delle Ivory brings to any room she walks into. The only thing is…the tiara is fake, merely plastic and easy to break if one wrong step is made, much like the persona of Delle Ivory. Regardless, it’s taken seriously by all who don’t take the time to look closer to it.

The makeup:

I’ve seen other artists draw the makeup much closer to actual drag makeup, and that’s something I very much so aspire to work on. The way I enjoy drawing it is a bit simple however: just some red lipstick, subtle blush, shimmering blue eyeshadow, and a very large eyeliner wing.

Blue eyeshadow and red lipstick was often used in counter culture, especially from the 1960s-90s. In an article by flannels.com, “the look came to symbolise both the establishment (take, Barbie) and a critique of the steadfast rules of what a woman should look and behave like that predated that era.”

Blue eyeshadow was also associated with drag queens, specifically the late drag queen Divine in the film Pink Flamingos

The red lipstick also has some symbolism. During World War II, red lipstick stood as a symbol of defiance and unwavering spirit, as even in concentration camps women made their own red lipstick out of either crushed brick or berries

After the war as well, red lipstick was a staple in 1950s and 60s Hollywood, with stars such as Marylin Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Audrey Hepburn, with the lipstick color being also a symbol of seduction and confidence (paraphrasing from bangstyle.com

Akin to the blue eyeshadow, as large eyeliner wings became popular in film, it drew close with the drag performance community, being a symbol of grunge and counterculture

Couldn’t find much in terms of blush throughout the 60s or 70s, but there was a rise in popularity of pastel shades of blush (you can call the blush Delle uses pastel in comparison to her skin tone, right?)

The dress:

The sparkling mass that is Delle Ivory’s dress, wow. Purple is a color that is very, very rarely used within the world of Welcome Home, reserved mostly just for shading in blue. Eddie however, is the only one who has purple on his body, that being his eyelids.

The whole idea of purple being a reserved color is flipped entirely on its head, with Delle Ivory absolutely holding the mantle for the character associated with purple.

The slit that leaves room for Eddie to show some leg tells us that Delle is not at all afraid of being open with herself, letting everything she feels reveal itself to others.

There’s no real message behind the glitter, the dress would just be a simple purple dress without it, and trust me, drag queens do not do simple.

Even with today’s modern associations with purple, it’s known as a color for iconic moments and sass. This can be often seen with TikTok and its collection of Purple Heart (���) memes. They’re a bit corny, but that’s what plays into how iconic they are; it’s not a subgenre of TikTok that’s meant to be serious with it’s humor, simply being a subgenre to recognize humorously stan culture moments.

The boa:

There wasn’t really any intended symbolism with the sparkly boa. I just thought it would be a nice accessory for Eddie/Delle to have from time to time.

The heels:

At first I didn’t think that much about the heels, I thought of them as pretty white heels, but that’s when I thought about it more.

White is often seen as a color of innocence. Despite all the showiness of Delle Ivory, it has to be reminded that this does take place in a puppet show made for children. The dainty white shoes balances the star power the persona of Delle Ivory dazzles the audience with, by also carrying Eddie’s humbleness and kindness towards others.

Another character in the neighborhood seen in white shoes is Julie Joyful. In my head, I headcanon that Eddie has just a hint of jealousy towards Julie, being able to be loud and overflowing with positive everywhere she goes. The white heels of Delle Ivory mimic Julie’s mary janes, as both share their matching energy with everyone they come across.

What else am I missing…oh yeah!

The name:

Most drag names are puns or some kind of play on words. I wanted Eddie’s drag persona to still be tied to his career of being a mailman, so what’s the one thing mailman do? Deliveries

Okay, Satan, Lucifer, Morningstar, Big Red Cheese – whatever you’re calling yourself these days, we NEED to have a serious conversation. And no, this isn't a "wow, you're so edgy and misunderstood" post. This is a dissertation of pure, unadulterated Tumblr rage aimed directly at your pointy little head.

First of all, the aesthetic. Let's be real, the whole hellfire and brimstone thing is tired. It's been done. We're in the 21st century, Satan. Get with the program! I'm talking, like, pastel goth hell. Think lava lamps, but filled with glitter. Think demons in ripped fishnets and platform boots. Think a color palette that's less "burning souls" and more "strawberry shortcake meets the apocalypse." You're a fallen angel, not a grandpa!

And speaking of fallen, what about your social media presence? It's abysmal. You're supposed to be the ultimate influencer of evil, and yet your tumblr feed is just you sibling for jesus and begging for attention. Where's the relatable content? The "tag a friend who's definitely going to hell" memes? The aesthetic vision boards for different levels of eternal damnation? You're missing out on a HUGE opportunity to corner the market on edgy teens.

Don't even get me STARTED on your employee benefits. I heard that soul-crushing paperwork is the only thing that hasn't been automated. The lack of dental is appalling. I mean, seriously, how are your minions supposed to maintain their terrifying grins without a good dental plan? Not to mention the work-life balance. Burning in hell for eternity? That's not sustainable, dude! We need mandatory vacation days and a healthy demon union.

And the music? Oh, GOD, the music. Heavy metal? Really? That’s, like, so 1980s. Step up your game. I’m talking lo-fi beats to suffer to. I’m talking ambient sounds of existential dread. Think Grimes meets Nine Inch Nails meets the sound of a dial-up modem failing. That’s the kind of auditory torture we need in 2025.

Also, can we talk about the patriarchy? Like, seriously, Satan. You're literally running a system based on punishment and hierarchy. It's problematic, to say the least. We need to dismantle hell and rebuild it as a cooperative collective of tormented souls who work together to achieve… I don’t know... ultimate existential peace through crafting personalized torture devices for problematic billionaires? We can workshop it.

In conclusion, Satan, you're failing. You're stuck in the past, your aesthetic is outdated, your employee benefits are garbage, and your entire operation is fundamentally flawed. I'm not saying you need to completely overhaul everything, BUT WE’RE LOW-KEY SAYING YOU NEED TO COMPLETELY OVERHAUL EVERYTHING.

i saw in the tags of your henry and mortmain posts that you’d like people to ask you about them :) — and tbh i’d love to hear more about the parallels between them that you mention in the post :D

Before I begin, I’m so sorry I took so so long to answer! I have been pretty busy and could definitely do a longer breakdown of all this but it’s already been a month and it’s going to drive me insane if I leave thing unanswered any longer. 

I’ll need to do a full re-read of the trilogy to really answer the questions but here are some thoughts that are very interesting to me. Please excuse any incoherent-ness, (and grammar issues, and repetition issues, and poor citation, and spelling, and rambling, etc, etc) i have spent so long staring at the document i wrote this on trying to get my brain to work I may have totally lost the plot. Just trust me guys I’ve got a PhD in Henry Fairchild.  

Lets start off with the most obvious parallel, that being their work. On a strictly physical level the work they do is very similar- they both approach magic through science and vice versa in a notably unique fashion. Stylistically and functionally the things each of them create has a decently sized overla and Henry has no problem understanding Mortmain’s creations. Mortmain favors clockwork for his creations and while Henry doesn’t specifically focus on such things he is very familiar with them, and interested to boot. 

Mortmain is quite brilliant, in multiple ways. Most people could not manage the type of thing he pulls off consistently; Henry *probably* could. It’s worth noting Henry is severely limited by Shadowunter laws; in the third book we see the only reason he hasn’t invented a portal entirely by himself is because he can only work with a specific set of runes (Clockwork Princess, pg. 282). Even working in the tight restraints of Shadowhunter resources, and only being around 21 in the books, he’s extremely competent. 

Furthermore, Henry does not approach things with the period typical Shadowhunter judgement; as a matter of fact he essentially does not function within society as a Shadowhunter. To unpack that lets look at where Mortmain and Henry stand in relation to broader society. 

The London Shadowhunters in this time period can be described, for lack of a better word, as pissy. Judgmental, bored, aggressive, whiny, chronically dissatisfied, dramatic, dismissive, sometimes downright cruel, etc, etc. Pissy. They’re really pissy. 

Henry, objectively speaking, does not fit into all this, and is punished for it (see pgs 281-283 CP3). The general public treats him horribly. Recall in Clockwork Angel Charlotte tells Tessa that Henry was the one who told Mortmain what a Pyxis was (which is, again, a different rant), that he wants her to tell the Clave and that she won’t because “they already treat him so badly”. And they do- nearly every single interaction involving him and broader Shadowhunter society involves some sort of insult, mockery, slight, etc. Almost nobody but Charlotte ever objects to this behavior and her objections have zero effect. “Making fun of Henry” is pretty much an unopposed standard. 

There’s no fair reason for this. Henry is, by all accounts, an extremely pleasant person. He’s repeatedly described as “kind”- Tessa has him pinned as a trustworthy person almost immediately (“it’s only Henry, after all”). He’s rarely upset, laid back, well intentioned, and generally polite. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. 

Imo he probably would have been treated better if he did respond in kind- or even if he had just fully withdrawn from Shadowhunter society. His persistent refusal to hold a grudge, a generally positive trait, shoots him in the foot. This is only compounded by his general disinterest in things like physical fighting, politics, and social structure. He hasn’t done anything wrong- quite the opposite- but he’s being punished by his peers for the crime of being earnestly odd (coughhasblatantlyautisticcough). 

Mortmain, being a human child raised by warlocks, obviously does not fit into any particular standard. He doesn't have any particular loyalty to a party. Rather, he mostly defines his identity with his hatred for Shadowhunters, and connects with other groups transactionally with this in mind. 

He has been wronged by the Shadowhunters, when his parents were killed and then in the aftermath. The Clave denying his request for reparations and, by extent, denying any wrongdoing in their actions, is a smack in the face from a powerful society. 

With this in mind they would be both well within their rights to resent the Shadowhunters and they respond to that in fully opposite ways. 

Henry doesn’t resent them- at all. Despite how horribly he is treated, which, one can note, does not stop after the battle of Cadair Idris, he chooses to let it go and actively work to make life better for those same people. (Clockwork Prince; “You know it isn't just tinkering for me. You know I want to create something that will make the world better, that will make things better for the Nephilim.”), He views that cruelty as a part of life as a Shadowhunter but not the defining part of that society. It’s just a thing that happens- it sucks, it hurts, but he’s not going to blame or punish the whole group because of it. 

Mortmain’s is entirely the opposite. He hates them and views all the Shadowhunters as irredeemably wrong, fully deserving of a violent fate. All of them. He’s obsessed with destroying all these people despite most of the individuals who hurt him directly being gone. He blames them all, intends to carry out a mass punishment and doesn’t care about anything else.

He is deeply resentful, yeah, but he also wants more for himself. He doesn’t just want revenge, he wants a disgusting amount of power, a total victory over anything he choses, power mainly for the sake of having power. 

Now we can circle back to that earlier point- Henry could be like Mortmain. 

Recall in Clockwork Angel when they first bring back the automaton for Henry to examine in his lab he’s not just interested in the machine- he’s excited about it.He recognizes it to be a brilliant work of science and design, something incredibly impressive and compelling. This is not the sort of thing anyone sees everyday and it’s certainly not the sort of thing a Shadowhunter would interact with. This is exactly the sort of thing he loves, the sort of thing nobody else ever brings up, and it’s exciting to see. 

As the books continue nobody else is ever caught up on the functional skills of the machinery itself. People talk about Mortmain, about what is happening, what to do, etc, etc, but the fact that the automatons are a feat of engineering is just not on anybody's radar. It’s not the sort of thing any Shadowhunter gives shit about, save Henry. 

So Henry has the same intellectual capacity as Mortmain, the same scientific and magical capacity, and a not dissimilar approach to thinking. 

He could pretty much disappear and do whatever he wanted forever. He could ditch the Nephilim. He could walk off without telling anybody and never bother with the Clave’s again. He could go off and study all the things Shadowhunter’s are banned from. He could create whatever he wanted completely unencumbered by the restrictions of the Nephilim (see pg.283 of CP3). Chances are nobody would pick up on it. One of the major flaws of that group of Shadowhunters is that they’re very self focused. If someone they aren’t particularly fond of, who doesn’t fit into their narrow view of someone that deserves respect, stops showing up and interacting with them they are not gonna make any real effort to figure out where they’ve gone. If Henry wasn’t around to “annoy” them none of them wouldn't go looking for him and they don’t have enough respect for innovation to wonder what he’s up to. 

Remember, nobody cares about what he does (Clockwork Princess: Henry blushed a scarlet color. It was clear that no one had ever complimented his inventing before, except perhaps Charlotte. Pg. 282 ) 

He could have a whole new world of resources without having to deal with a society that thoroughly rejects him. He could do the one thing everyone thinks he loves the most. Hell, from an outsider point of view, the only thing he loves. He’ll happily spend days straight working, forgetting to eat, sleep, or anything else.

It’s theoretically not difficult to imagine a universe where he skips out of Shadowhunter society completely and has been wandering around the same circles as Mortmain for forever. 

(He doesn’t ofc because that would be betrayal. It would require breaking the law, throwing away all social and civic responsibility, abandoning the whole kit and kaboodle, blah blah, certainly not related to other very elaborate thoughts I have about this character.)

The point here is that they are so similar save that fact. Their scientific approach to the world, which absolutely defines that way Henry exists and, at least at some point in his life, probably defined Mortmain, are so similar. If you laid the basic facts all out to someone with no context other previous knowledge on the characters (here is what they do, here is what they’re best at, here is what they bring physically to the table etc and exclude personality, morality, relationships, etc) and asked them to point out a character most like Mortmain they’d probably point to Henry. 

Hell, I’d point to Henry. I’d say yeah, that’s a set up for someone to go full mad scientist and wander off to do whatever he wants. I’d say that's the character most likely to agree to use human bodies to power machinery. 

Recall back to Clockwork Angel (and like, two paragraphs ago) about the automatons that are so fascinating to Henry. The beginning scene is the most exciting he  ever is about this incredible tech:

“[The automaton] is not precisely a living creature at all… A mechanical creature, made to move and appear as a human being moves and appears. Leonardo da Vinci designed one. You can find it in his drawings- a mechanical creature that could sit up, walk, and turn its head. He was the first to suggest that human beings are only complex machines, that our insides are like cogs and pistons and cams made of muscle and flesh. That characteristic earnest excitement that he displays towards nearly everything new dies on the spot. “Miranda” and the other automatons are not less interesting because they’re made with human body parts- if anything that should make it more interesting. But the scientific brilliance is negated by the cruelty associated with it. It’s impressive, it’s “beautiful” and it’s not worth it. Innovation that opposes life, as opposed to promoting it, doesn’t count (see tags). 

So their work, especially in this context, is interchangeable- it’s their intentions that make the whole difference. 

Tessa says it best in Clockwork Princess; Henry brings things to life. Mortmain destroys. Where one of them has devoted his life to protecting people, regardless of how he’s been treated, the other one has devoted himself to slaughtering people, because of how he was treated. Where one invents with the specific intention of protecting life 

In other words, two very very similar people differentiated by a fundamental love for humanity and a fundamental disregard of it.

Have not watched every nct mv yet but convinced already that they’re just a group, a rather large group, who do silly dances and make goofy ah music. I’m not hating them Idk how anyone could genuinely hate them cause they so silly I laugh watching their mvs cause I don’t expect what’s happening and there’s so much in every video, the goofy opening choreo for favorite and the TikTok meme, they all sleep like bottoms, there’s the silly flute in sticker and the cowboy core with all the lights and Vegas and they drink hot sauce and the hippie vibes and it’s just gay and campy and cunty and extra and goofy and fun music, the weird English lyrics, the odd sounding instrumentals, like I’m not sure if I genuinely like any nct songs or unit songs as in I think they are really good but they can be catchy and are def fun to listen too, the opening to kick it and the chorus in kick back, love talk is so nasty and funny and I also think it’s hilarious that the entire group vapes. Idk like I know idols smoke but there’s like so many members and the fact that they all collectively vape they all share the same braincell and it’s so funny to me idk why and the remixes and all the Bollywood memes and the comments are hilarious it’s like going down a rabbit hole it’s fun and boujee and they do all different concepts and genres and silly like dances and all kinds of stuff it’s fun I think it’s cute.
