April 16, 2022: Will You?, Carrie Fountain
Will You? Carrie Fountain
When, at the end, the children wanted to add glitter to their valentines, I said no.
I said nope, no, no glitter, and then, when they started to fuss, I found myself
saying something my brother’s football coach used to bark from the sidelines when one
of his players showed signs of being human: oh come on now, suck it up.
That’s what I said to my children. Suck what up? my daughter asked,
and, because she is so young, I told her I didn’t know and never mind, and she took
that for an answer. My children are so young when I turn off the radio as the news turns
to counting the dead or naming the act, they aren’t even suspicious. My children
are so young they cannot imagine a world like the one they live in. Their God is still
a real God, a whole God, a God made wholly of actions. And I think they think I work
for that God. And I know they will someday soon see everything and they will know about
everything and they will no longer take never mind for an answer. The valentines
would’ve been better with glitter, and my son hurt himself on an envelope, and then, much
later, when we were eating dinner, my daughter realized she’d forgotten one of the three
Henrys in her class. How can there be three Henrys in one class? I said, and she said, Because there are.
And so, before bed we took everything out again—paper and pens and stamps and scissors—
and she sat at the table with her freshly washed hair parted smartly down the middle and wrote
WILL YOU BE MINE, HENRY T.? and she did it so carefully, I could hardly stand to watch.

For the Daft Punk asks: 1993-2021.
Yes, Irene. I want you to answer all of them (except the ones you don’t want to answer, of course ❤️).
/2B
Well well well, this is gonna take a while! I already answered 2011 to 2013 in this ask right here, so I’ll be skipping those!
1993: When did you first hear about Daft Punk? That’s an odd question, and hard to answer.
During my childhood I KNOW I heard songs like Around The World, Music Sounds Better With You, One More Time, Harder Better Faster Stronger, and Technologic later on.
It wasn’t until around 2011 when I had my first contact with Daft Punk, when on a restaurant, on a TV in the background, One More Time was playing. I could not hear the song, but the visuals catched my attention and I became fascinated. Sadly, I did not catch who’s song was that, nor the title.
It wasn’t until Get Lucky and RAM released that I FINALLY figured out who Daft Punk were. The moment I saw the robots, when I rediscovered and watched Interstella 5555 in it’s entirety in one setting, then, was when i got hooked up to them, forever.
1994: What do you find most striking about the band? THE ROBOTS! I love the dessigns, they have SO MUC PERSONALITY. But other things I love are, obviously, their music, the “not giving a shit” actitude, and the way they worked. That’s something I admire a lot, keeping control of your works. As an artist myself, it’s something that can be really important and can help you out in the future.
1995: Do you have any favorite music videos? I love Interstella 5555 with my whole heart. The Homework MVs, specially Burnin’, hold a special place in my heart. I love that in Burnin’ the boys make a cameo for a split second, wearing odd costumes and wigs.
1996: What do you think about the Homework album? Pretty good! I love house music, and it’s certainly the album that introduced me to the genre, so... Da Funk, Around The World, they’re just absolute BANGERS. The “harder” songs on the album aren’t really my thing, tho...
1997: What do you think about Alive 1997? A bit bare-bones, not gonna lie. It’s like 45 minutes long. That’s not a lot. It certainly is something of it’s time. What I love the most are the scarce pictures and videos of that era of them playing live. You can REALLY tell they’re having a blast, specially Thomas.
1998: Do you have any favorite remixes/mash-ups? Their remix of Chord Memory is certainly one of my favorites. It really gives you a... Something. It feels like it’s telling a story, with it’s change of tone later on and then mashing both. Also, that WDPK 83.7 reference!
1999: Has your opinion of the band changed over time? Not really. It just started high and they stay high as my favorite band/musicians. They’re extremely inspiring, specially for the fact they did so many different things, but all feeling so unique to them at the same time. Them also being nice people and supporting of social rights and the LGBT community is certainly a great plus!
2000: Do you have a favorite ‘era’ of Daft Punk? Discovery. It’s the most fun, colorfull, and the one they seemed more “silly”. The robots appeared in their rainbowy marvel and odd/oversized clothes.
2001: What do you think about the Discovery album? It’s My FAVORITE! There are barely no songs I dislike. It have so many different vibes, feelings, you have vocal tracks and instrumental tracks, all with the same quality... And my favorite song from them, Something About Us, is from that album.
2002: Has Daft Punk inspired you creatively? Absolutely. Like, 100%.
2003: What do you think about Interstella 5555? They could’ve worked on that lip-sink a bit better, it’s something that ALWAYS pulls me off. But aside from that, it’s a great concept, and a very special animated film. You can tell there was a lot of care put on it.
2004: Are there any lyrics in particular that stuck with you? Within. That song just, resonates so much with me. Check out my other post with answers, I talk in depth about it!
2005: What do you think about the Human After All album? You can tell it was made in 2 weeks. They were angry, frustrated. And you get a lot of “Thomas Vibe” in that. It feels like it wasn’t a good time for them and it’s reflected in the album.
2006: What do you think about the Musique album? The only good thing from it is that they FINALLY re-released Musique and those remixes! Also, in the special version, you get the Interstella 5555 DVD, which is how I got the movie myself physically!
2007: What do you think about Alive 2007? It’s just great. I wish there was an official version of the entire concert edited by them, where you could see the visuals, the vibes, and the boys all in one enjoying themselves. I’m sad I couldn’t go see them, but at the time I just did not know who they were, and I was only 11. I remember seeing their pyramid on TV when they came to Spain in 2006! I thought it looked really extra, and it really is.
2008: What do you think about Electroma? It’s heartcrushing. I have the feeling they could’ve cutted the ending a little, and I don’t really get why of the dunes looking like a woman and going like, inside the vagina... But still. Also, I can not laugh when they wear the human masks. They’re so ugly x’D Is that how they see themselves?
The bathroom scene ALWAYS gets me. GM08 getting extremely mad and frustrated, while TB3 tries to hold on to what’s left until it can’t be recovered... That says SO MUCH about them, about the robots, as characters and people. You can really get what they’re feeling.
The ending, though... That ending. My god. Everyone always talks about TB3′s death, but the one that really got me the most is GM08′s. It seemed like he wanted to keep going, but finding himself alone ends up being his demise. They need each other. And when he tries to reach to his self-destruct button but cannot, and he just stares in the distance... I really, REALLY felt that.
2009: Do you have a favorite Daft Punk cameo/reference? I talked about the Burnin’ video before, but if I have to think of something else... I think their cameos in different productions are great. Like Sebastien Tellier’s videos of the songs he made with Guy-Man, one with magazines with drawing of GM08, while on the other he appears as a background guy, face partially covered... Also Thomas’ cameo in the movie Realité, where his wife is one of the secondary characters, where he just, again, appears for a split second. I find those really funny.
2010: What do you think about TRON: Legacy? It had a lot going on, but it’s story just... Was bad. The effects are cool (except for the guy they tried to make look younger), and I love that Daft Punk just kept vibing when the fight breaks out at the club. Aside from that, that’s all.
2014: What’s your favorite moment of Daft Punk at the GRAMMYs? The hug. Come on, that’s like, the loveliest thing ever. You can tell how happy and emotional they were. They even had to hold Thomas’ hand because his helmet fogged on the inside.
2015: Do you have friends who like Daft Punk? Hmm... Does all the cool people I’ve met in the fandom count? ;D Specially @edbangingrobot and @invader-777 they’re the coolest people ever <3
2016: What Daft Punk collaborations stood out to you? Probably the one with The Weeknd, but only because of their AMAZINGLY COOL COSTUMES, more than anything. Those have to be my all-time favorite looks for the robots.
2017: Did you get to see Daft Punk live? No :(
2018: How does Daft Punk fit into your taste in music? They have that disco-electro-house vibe I LOVE so much. Why do you think Discovery is my favorite? x’D Tho my tastes go all over the place, if I’m honest. You just have to take a look around my Spotify playlist to see what I’m talking about.
2019: What Daft Punk song makes you smile? One More Time, Digital Love, Voyager and Give Life Back To Music. If you wanna make me get in a good mood, play those.
2020: Did Daft Punk help you get through tough times? They certainly helped me focus on something. I found them in one of the toughest, darkest times of my life. Just had to drop out of school due to my mental illness, only to be abandoned by my old friends, while my family did not listen to me about my depression, anxiety and agoraphobia. Not only that, but we also moved for the third time in a decade, and it wasn’t for fun reasons. Having Daft Punk’s music there as a new discovery to me certainly helped, with their cheerfull, thoughtless songs for a time where everything felt too much.
2021: How are you “holding on” after the split? I am extremely sad we will never get to see the robots again. They’re a really important part of my life. Just like their music. All I hope is that they’re in good therms, and that they’ll be happy for now on. We do not know the reason, but there surely was one behind their decission. If any of them does make something new in the future, I’ll make sure to check it out. It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done things aside from Daft Punk.

Clearview AI's customer database leaks (permalink)
Clearview is the grifty facial recognition startup that created a database by scraping social media and now offers cops secretive deals on its semi-magic, never-peer-reviewed technology. The company became notorious in January after the NYT did a deep dive into its secretive deals and its weird, Trump-adjascent ex-male-model founder.
(the Times piece was superbly researched but terribly credulous about Clearview's marketing claims)
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/18/technology/clearview-privacy-facial-recognition.html
Yesterday, Clearview warned its customers that it had been hacked and lost its customer database. Today, that customer database was published.
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/clearview-ai-fbi-ice-global-law-enforcement
It seems that the NYT weren't the only ones to take Clearview's marketing claims at face value. Its client list includes the DoJ, ICE, Macy's, Walmart, and the NBA. All in all the dump includes more than 2,200 users, including "law enforcement agencies, companies, and individuals around the world."
Included: state AGs, university rent-a-cops, and clients in Saudi Arabia.
"BuzzFeed News authenticated the logs, which list about 2,900 institutions and include details such as the number of log-ins, the number of searches, and the date of the last search."
What does Clearview, a sercurity company, say about this ghastly security breach? "Unfortunately, data breaches are part of life in the 21st century."
Big shrug energy.
"Government agents should not be running our faces against a shadily assembled database of billions of our photos in secret and with no safeguards against abuse," ACLU attorney Nathan Freed Wessler, said to BuzzFeed News.
It is amazing that this needs to be said.
"More than 50 educational institutions across 24 states named in the log. Among them are two high schools."
They are:
Central Montco Technical High School in Pennsylvania
Somerset Berkley Regional High School in Massachusetts
The log also has an entry for Interpol.
The Internet of Anal Things (permalink)
In 1994, the notorious/celebrated electronic artist Stelarc did a performance called "Amplified Body" in which he "controlled robots, cameras and other instruments by tensing and releasing his muscles"
https://web.archive.org/web/20120712181429/https://v2.nl/events/amplified-body
Now, artist/critic Dani Ploeger has revisited Amplified Body with his own performance, which is very similar to Stelarc's, except all the peripherals are controlled by Ploeger tensing and releasing his anal sphincters around a smart butt-plug.
https://www.daniploeger.org/amplified-body
He calls it "B-hind" and it's a ha-ha-only-serious. The buttplug is "an anal electrode with EMG sensor for domestic treatment of faecal incontinence," and the accompanying text is a kind of art-speak parody of IoT biz-speak.
https://we-make-money-not-art.com/b-hind-celebrating-the-internet-of-anal-things
"B-hind offers a unique IoT solution to fully integrate your sphincter muscle in everyday living. The revolutionary anal electrode-powered interface system replaces conventional hand/voice-based interaction, enabling advanced digital control rooted in your body's interior. Celebrating the abject and the grotesque, B‒hind facilitates simple, plug-and-play access to a holistic body experience in the age of networked society."
B-hind was produced in collaboration with V2_, the Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam, and In4Art.
Oakland's vintage Space Burger/Giant Burger building needs a home! (permalink)
Giant Burger was once an East Bay institution, known for its burgers and its gorgeous googie architecture.
https://localwiki.org/oakland/Giant_Burger
One of the very last Giant Burger buildings is now under threat. Though the Telegraph Ave location was rescued in 2015 and converted to a "Space Burger," it's now seeking a new home because it is in the path of the Eastline project.
https://insidescoopsf.sfgate.com/blog/2015/02/24/space-burger-launches-in-uptown-oakland/
The Oakland Heritage Alliance is hoping someone will rescue and move the building: " Do you have an idea for a new location for this mid-century icon? Please contact [email protected] if you know of an appropriate lot, project, or site, preferably downtown."
(Image CC BY-SA, Our Oakland)
Fan-made reproduction of the Tower of Terror (permalink)
Orangele set out to re-create the Walt Disney World Twilight Zone Tower of Terror elevator loading zone in the entry area to their home theater. He's not only done an impressive re-make of the set, but he's also augmented it with FANTASTIC gimmicks.
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/the-tower-of-terror-theater.365747/
It's not merely that's he's created a rain, thunder and lightning effect outside the patio doors…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QMzN0v4mJQ
Nor has he merely created props like this gimmicked side table that flips over at the press of a button.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY7gQLMnbeA
He's also created HIS OWN ROD SERLING DEEPFAKE.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=MIsjYJwOXSU
I kinda seriously love that he left Rod's cigarette in. The Disney version looks…uncanny.
Not shown: "exploding fuse box with simulated smoke and fire, motorized lighted elevator dial, motorized/lighted pressure gauge, video monitor playing Tower of Terror ride sequence seen through the elevator door wrap, motorized "elevator door'"
He notes, "I was once married, but now as a single person, I can do whatever I want, haha. NEVER getting married again."
Drawing the Simpsons with pure CSS (permalink)
Implementing animated Simpsons illustrations in CSS isn't the most practical web-coding demo I've seen, but it's among the most impressive. Bravo, Chris Pattle!
(not shown: the eyes animate and blink!)
https://pattle.github.io/simpsons-in-css/
#bart .head .hair1 { top: 22px; left: 0px; width: 6px; height: 7px; -webkit-transform: rotate(-22deg) skew(-7deg, 51deg); -ms-transform: rotate(-22deg) skew(-7deg, 51deg); transform: rotate(-22deg) skew(-7deg, 51deg); }
I especially love the quick-reference buttons to see the raw CSS. It reminds me of nothing so much as the incredibly complex Logo programs I used to write on my Apple ][+ in the 1980s, drawing very complicated, vector-based sprites and glyphs.
https://github.com/pattle/simpsons-in-css/blob/master/css/bart.css
Most interesting is the way that this modular approach to graphics allows for this kind of simple, in-browser transformation.
Let's Encrypt issues its billionth cert (permalink)
When the AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein walked into EFF's offices in 2005 to reveal that his employers had ordered him to help the NSA spy on the entire internet, it was a bombshell.
https://www.eff.org/tags/mark-klein
The Snowden papers revealed the scope of the surveillance in fine and alarming detail. According to his memoir, Snowden was motivated to blow the whistle when he witnessed then-NSA Director James Clapper lie to Senator Ron Wyden about the Klein matter.
Since that day in 2005, privacy advocates have been fretting about just how EASY it was to spy on the whole internet. So much of that was down to the fact that the net wasn't encrypted by default.
This was especially keen for @EFF. After all, we made our bones by suing the NSA in the 90s and winning the right for civilians to access working cryptography (we did it by establishing that "Code is speech" for the purposes of the First Amendment).
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/04/remembering-case-established-code-speech
Crypto had been legal since 1992, but by Klein's 2005 disclosures, it was still a rarity. 8 years later — at the Snowden moment — the web was STILL mostly plaintext. How could we encrypt the web to save it from mass surveillance?
So in 2014, we joined forces with Mozilla, the University of Michigan and Akamai to create Let's Encrypt, a project to give anyone and everyone free TLS certificates, the key component needed to encrypt the requests your web-server exchanges with your readers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let%27s_Encrypt
Encrypting the web was an uphill climb: by 2017, Let's Encrypt had issued 100m certificates, tipping the web over so that the majority of traffic (58%) was encrypted. Today, Let's Encrypt has issued ONE BILLION certs, and 81% of pageloads use HTTPS (in the USA, it's 91%)! This is astonishing, bordering on miraculous. If this had been the situation back in 2005, there would have been no NSA mass surveillance.
Even more astonishing: there are only 11 full-timers on the Let's Encrypt team, plus a few outside contractors and part-timers. A group of people who could fit in a minibus managed to encrypt virtually the entire internet.
https://letsencrypt.org/2020/02/27/one-billion-certs.html
There are lots of reasons to factor technology (and technologists) in any plan for social change, but this illustrates one of the primary tactical considerations. "Architecture is Politics" (as Mitch Kapor said when he co-founded EFF), and the architectural choices that small groups of skilled people make can reach all the way around the world.
This kind of breathtaking power is what inspires so many people to become technologists: the force-multiplier effect of networked code can imbue your work with global salience (for good or ill). It's why we should be so glad of the burgeoning tech and ethics movement, from Tech Won't Build It to the Googler Uprising. And it's especially why we should be excited about the proliferation of open syllabi for teaching tech and ethics.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jWIrA8jHz5fYAW4h9CkUD8gKS5V98PDJDymRf8d9vKI/edit#gid=0
It's also the reason I'm so humbled and thrilled when I hear from technologists that their path into the field started with my novel Little Brother, whose message isn't "Tech is terrible," but, "This will all be so great, if we don't screw it up."
https://craphound.com/littlebrother
(and I should probably mention here that the third Little Brother book, Attack Surface, comes out in October and explicitly wrestles with the question of ethics, agency, and allyship in tech).
https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250757531
AI Dungeon Master (permalink)
Since 2018, Lara martin has been using machine learning to augment the job of the Dungeon Master, with the goal of someday building a fully autonomous, robotic DM.
https://laramartin.net/
AI Dungeon Master is a blend of ML techniques and "old-fashioned rule-based features" to create a centaur DM that augments a human DM's imagination with the power of ML, natural language processing, and related techniques.
She's co-author of a new paper about the effort, "Story Realization: Expanding Plot Events into Sentences" which "describes a way algorithms to use "events," consisting of a subject, verb, object, and other elements, to make a coherent narrative."
https://aaai.org/Papers/AAAI/2020GB/AAAI-AmmanabroluP.6647.pdf
The system uses training data (plots from Doctor Who, Futurama, and X-Files) to expand text-snippets into plotlines that continue the action. It's a bit of a dancing bear, though, an impressive achievement that's not quite ready for primetime ("We're nowhere close to this being a reality yet").
https://www.wired.com/story/forget-chess-real-challenge-teaching-ai-play-dandd/
This may bring to mind AI Dungeon, the viral GPT-2-generated dungeon crawler from December.
https://aidungeon.io/
As Will Knight writes, "Playing AI Dungeon often feels more like a maddening improv session than a text adventure."
Knight proposes that "AI DM" might be the next big symbolic challenge for machine learning, the 2020s equivalent to "AI Go player" or "AI chess master."
How to lie with (coronavirus) maps (permalink)
The media around the coronavirus outbreak is like a masterclass in the classic "How to Lie With Maps."
https://www.press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/H/bo27400568.html
Self-described "cartonerd" Kenneth Field's prescriptions for mapmakers wanting to illustrate the spread of coronavirus is a superb read about data visualization, responsibility, and clarity.
https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/product/mapping/mapping-coronavirus-responsibly/
Both of these images are representing the same data. Look at the map and you might get the impression that coronavirus infections are at high levels across all of China's provinces. Look at the bar-chart and you'll see that it's almost entire Hubei.
Here's a proposed way to represent the same data on a map without misleading people.
Another point that jumped out: stop coloring maps in red!
"We're mapping a human health tragedy that may get way worse before it subsides. Do we really want the map to be screaming bright red? Red can connotate death, still statistically extremely rare for coronavirus."

Currently writing: I just finished a short story, "The Canadian Miracle," for MIT Tech Review. It's a story set in the world of my next novel, "The Lost Cause," a post-GND novel about truth and reconciliation. I'm getting geared up to start work on the novel now, though the timing is going to depend on another pending commission (I've been solicited by an NGO) to write a short story set in the world's prehistory.
Currently reading: Just started Lauren Beukes's forthcoming Afterland: it's Y the Last Man plus plus, and two chapters in, it's amazeballs. Last week, I finished Andrea Bernstein's "American Oligarchs" this week; it's a magnificent history of the Kushner and Trump families, showing how they cheated, stole and lied their way into power. I'm getting really into Anna Weiner's memoir about tech, "Uncanny Valley." I just loaded Matt Stoller's "Goliath" onto my underwater MP3 player and I'm listening to it as I swim laps.

Stella Maeve Filmography Rec List:
Under the cut find all of Stella’s filmography listed out/my opinions and recommendations. Favorites are italicized. (SPOILERS under the cut!)(also feel free to message with questions!):
Liminality (2005)- A movie short, it’s nowhere online that I could find unfortunately. Transamerica (2005)- Stella has no lines and she’s in one scene kissing the main character boy for 2 seconds. The movie itself is unfortunate I’m told, so skip it. Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2005)- She’s in two episodes in the same year as a small part. She’s not in the show long enough to make the effort. Skip. Law & Order (2005)- same as above, though now that I’m remembering one of the three early Law & Order episodes was impossible to find, so she might have a bigger part in the missing episode. Hit me up if you know. Euthanasia (2006)- Another short nowhere on the internet. Remember the Daze (2007)- Absolutely watch this, please. It’s adorable and Stella is CUTE AS HECK. It was supposed to be a modernized Dazed and Confused and never really took off, but it’s a fun watch and for young actress Stella content it’s A+. The Bronx Is Burning (2007)- Stella plays one of the first victims of Son of Sam. Less than a minute of content, pass it up. Harold (2008)- Do. Not. Watch. This. It’s a terrible movie. Also her hair isn’t good. Brooklyn's Finest (2009)- She plays a daughter of a cop, less than 30 seconds of screentime. Skip it. (fun fact, Mayakovsky is in this) Gossip Girl (2008-2009)- Stella is cute in the first episode, less so in the second she’s in. Watch the first, skip the second. Asylum Seekers (2009)- Ok ok ok, this movie is weird as FUCK. I wouldn’t recommend it as a movie, never, BUT. Stella is adorable in it, she’s got these braids and this dumb outfit that’s to die for. If you can find it (which will be hard), I’d say give it a shot if you’re craving Stella Maeve content. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2009)- I’d recommend this episode. I’ll admit to being gay and appreciating the shower scene. She’s also cute in it and I want to wrap her character in a hug and take care of her. Accused at 17 (2009)- If you like Lifetime Movies I’d give this one a go. As an avid fan of Lifetime Movies, I’d say this is a midrange example. See Kate Run (2009)- I could not find this anywhere at all online, which leads me to believe it might have been an unaired pilot. The Runaways (2010)- WATCH THE RUNAWAYS. Please WATCH THE RUNAWAYS. Stella is SO GREAT as Sandy West. She’s not in it nearly enough but besides Dakota and Kristen, Stella gets the most screen time of the rest of the girls. My Super Psycho Sweet 16 : Part 2 (2010) - Sure, watch this if you like bad made for MTV movies about serial killers. She has pink streaks in her hair which matters to me. Bones (2010) - Yes, watch this episode. Her style is great and she’s in the episode enough for it to feel worth the effort. House (2010-2011)- Stella plays an underaged girl that Chase sleeps with at a wedding. Uncomfortable all around. I’d pass. Funny or Die Presents... (2011)- Not in it long enough, pass. Lovelives (2011)- Could not find. Perhaps another unaired pilot? Grey's Anatomy (2012)- Absolutely watch this episode. Stella is wonderful in it, she breaks my heart. Cloned: The Recreator Chronicles (2012)- Very weird, but fun! Watch it for pretty and quirky Stella. Starlet (2012)- There is actual porn in this movie. I’m not joking. (it is not Stella). It’s also not a very good movie. Pass. Golden Boy (2013)- I’m sorry, Stella, this is the most boring show I’ve ever watched in my entire life. Maybe watch the pilot to get some Stella character angst, but that’s all. All Together Now (2013)- This is kind of like a more boring version of Remember The Daze. If you have time to kill and want to see Stella running around having fun and looking cute, go for it. Don’t expect a masterpiece. Company Town (2013)- Nowhere online, it’s an unaired pilot created by Sera Gamble. I want it. SERA @ ME. Rizzoli & Isles (2014)- Stella SINGS. Watch it just for that. I love her voice. Buttwhistle (2014)- Please. I beg of you. Do not watch this. The Park Bench (2014)- Skip it UNLESS you get the movie free on Amazon Prime. She’s very cute and giggly and adorable, but it’s one scene. Dark Summer (2015)- Run of the mill horror movie. Watch if you like horror or like me had someone to squirm with, skip if you don’t. Chicago P.D. (2014-2015)- If you can, watch all of Stella as Nadia Decotis. I would strangle anyone who tried to hurt Nadia with my bare hands. Ending is shitty but she had to leave to do The Magicians. Flipped (2015)- Stella is the only actor shown on screen for 90% of the movie. She gives a wonderful performance. The feeling is claustrophobic and uncomfortable, I’d recommend watching with someone if you can! But do watch it! Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2006-2016)- Stella is in one episode as a minor character in 2006 and then plays Nadia in two others. The two episodes in 2016 are the end of Nadia’s character arc so if you’ve managed to watch it, watch those. I’d also recommend the 2006 episode, however she’s only in it for about one minute. Long Nights Short Mornings (2016)- Skip it unless you want to watch Stella in a steamy sex scene up against a wall.... which lets be real is a handful of you. For those of you interested, the movie is cut up into segments, her segment is “Lily”. Take the 10 (2017)- Not nearly enough Stella. I wouldn’t watch it again, but you should watch once. God Friended Me (2019)- Watch for cute cook Stella. The Magicians (2015-)- WATCH THE MAGICIANS.

I knew I was in trouble when he moved in. I had known somewhere deep inside, that sharing an apartment with Jamie Fraser was going to be a problem. But, I had needed the help to pay the rent and he was the only suitable person who met my obscene standards.
He was clean, respectful, and didn’t mind my coming and going at odd hours. He was a hard worker, Adso loved him, and all the references on his application had stellar reviews about him. He was also extremely charming and good-looking. I had started to fall for him the moment he came over for a tour of the apartment, though, I hadn’t wanted to admit it to anyone- let alone myself.
The problem was, I was with Frank, and he had a girlfriend—But Jamie Fraser was my best friend, and that was all. (New Girl 2011-2018)
Dr. B, Medicine Woman by CrossingInStyle @crossinginstyle
Claire Beauchamp is trying to make her way as a woman doctor in the 19th century. After the death of her uncle and only supporter, she decides to risk everything to travel to a small frontier town in Colorado in need of a doctor. There, she meets Mac, a mysterious, quiet man who lives among the Cheyenne, and becomes a sudden mother to three orphaned children.

The Writer Who Loved Me by @sassenachwriter
The concept was inspired by the tv show/book series Castle. If you’ve watch Castle, don’t expect too much references. Only the basic story was inspired by it: Jamie is a journalist and follows Claire around (who in that case is a doctor, not a cop) to write his article. (Castle 2009-2016)
Outlander Forever by Kazroo
While not a cross-over in the strict sense of the meaning, I have appropriated several plot devices from both the current show about immortals, Forever, and another earlier show about an immortal, New Amsterdam (which starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) that I actually preferred the back-story for, and pulled them into a purely Outlander character-scape. The Outlander references are a mix of the books and the TV series, so don't jump down my throat on date differences!
Simply put, Jamie Fraser is immortal, and his path is about to cross once again with Claire, and Brianna, the daughter he has never had the chance to meet. Picking up where Dragonfly in Amber left off, what happens if Claire can't go back, but Jamie never dies? (Forever 2014-2015)
Unearthed by @jewelsbrooke, @livinginafanficworld
An invitation from the Forensic Anthropology Society of Europe sets Claire Beauchamp on an exciting path of murder, mystery, and intrigue. Little does Claire know, bones aren’t the only things being unearthed in Edinburgh, Scotland. (Bones 2005-2017)

Prompt: “Perhaps something Christmas themed? Or an AU where Jamie and Claire are a badass crime-fighting duo, taking on the criminal red coat gang in the seedy underbelly of the city…sorry, mind got away from me there :P” (Gotham 2014-Present)

Claire Beauchamp arrives to her new job as a nurse at the Scottish Helicopter Ambulance Service, where she meets helicopter pilot Jamie. (Medicopter 117, 1998-2007)
COVERT OPERATIONS by @sablelab
The most covert of all antiterrorist organizations, wages war against those who would destroy … or at the very least reorder… society. Its adversaries, who have remained beyond the reach of normal police and intelligence agencies, are many, and they are ruthless, and so Section resorts to measures that would be unacceptable for most government organizations. For this reason, Section jealously guards its anonymity. It recruits criminals and killers and gives them a choice: death or life as a Section operative. It’s usually a rather short life for operatives are expendable, and losses are high, but then so are the stakes in a global power struggle against sinister terrorist organizations such as the Triad group called ‘The Rising Dragons’. (La Femme Nikita 1997-2001)
Women of Balnain by @suhailauniverse
Special Agent Claire Beauchamp finds herself working a case of a missing young woman and unexpectedly partnered with a highly unorthodox Detective who challenges her in ways she never thought possible. Little did she know, this was the beginning of a journey that would change her life forever. (The X-Files 1993-Present)

Acana vs Orijen
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/417WUUX2vAL.jpg As someone who feels that dogs are the best part of life, I’m surrounded by other dog fanatics.
We all talk about our pups, dress them up, and compare parenting stories to learn from each other.
Over the years, I’ve heard plenty about different dog food brands. They all come with their own pros and cons, but two companies that often get brought up are Acana and Orijen.
I always want to learn more about how I can help my dog and even my friend’s dogs, so I’ve done a little research into what these two companies have to offer that their competitors don’t.
Here’s what I found.
This isn’t the first time we’ve put Orijen up against another dog food. How did they compare with Taste of the Wild?
Acana’s Company History
Acana was started by the Weber family in the Czech Republic in the early 1990s.
They wanted to create a food that matched a dog’s evolutionary needs, specifically when it came to their protein.
As they grew, they developed a passion for finding ingredients that were sustainably grown or caught, and delivered by people they knew.
Everything had to be either fresh or raw.
Their focus on biologically accurate nutritional needs makes these their top selling products:
Acana Duck and Pear Singles Formula
Acana Lamb and Okanagan Apple Singles Limited Ingredient Diet Formula
Acana Free-Run Poultry Heritage Formula
In 2018, they won the Pet Business Industry Recognition award for their high quality production and products.
Orijen’s Company History
Orijen was owned and started by the same people who started Acana.
They operate under the Canadian brand Champion Pet Foods, which means that Orijen’s history is nearly identical to that of Acana.
They also focus on nutrients that meet a dog’s biological needs. The only difference is that they have a higher quantity of foods that feature more fresh meat and fish.
Their best selling products are:
Orijen Chicken Based Senior Dog Food (Our review)
Orijen Biologically Appropriate Adult Dog Food
Orijen Grain-Free Puppy Food
In 2017, Orijen won the Eco Excellence Awards for their sustainable dog food ingredients and products.
Concerning Recalls
While many customers are happy with the products they buy, consumers in Florida, Minnesota, and California sued the parent company Champion Pet Food in early 2018.
They alleged that the company had violated “feed law” along with various other charges.
Specifically, the lawsuit claimed that food from Acana and Orijen had levels of cadmium, arsenic, lead, and mercury that are known to cause harm to dogs. They also claimed that there were high levels of BPA in the food.
In February 2019, a judge ultimately dismissed the case, stating that there was a lack of evidence that there were harmful metals in the dog food.
While the consumers involved in the lawsuit argued against this ruling, the judge decided the level of metals did not exceed the limitations laid out by the Mineral Tolerance of Animals study conducted by the National Research Council in 2005.
What’s Important When Choosing a Dog Food?
The most important things you can do when choosing which food to feed your dog is to give yourself time to research the food and then watch how your dog reacts to it.
Here are a few key pieces of information you can study when reading about potential dog food brands.
Ingredients
Photo by Tambako the Jaguar (CC BY-ND 2.0)
What ingredients are important for your dog to have?
That will differ depending on their breed. Goldendoodles and German Shepherds will have different dietary requirements.
Bigger breeds with thick coats will need fish oil to maintain their coat, along with their skin and joint health.
You should also make sure the ingredients that are listed first are real. If the first listed ingredient is a filler or meat substitute, then it was made to be cheap and easily produced.
Look for brands that list meats like chicken, beef, or fish first and follow up with vegetables or nutrients like fish oils.
You can also get your dog allergy tested at the vet to avoid any ingredients that may trigger those allergies.
Some common allergy triggers are beef, wheat, dairy, and even soy. An allergy test will be worth it in the long run, since your dog won’t have to figure out their allergies on their own.
Price
Initially, you may feel like the price of your dog food can take a back seat.
After all, it’s more important that your dog eats the best food they can get.
Remember that you’ll be buying dog food often, especially if your dog is a puppy or a larger breed.
Will you be able to pay the price with your monthly budget? You’ll need something sustainable for your long-term financial goals.
Availability
How do you plan to get your dog food?
If you live in a large city, you might not mind driving a few streets down to pick up the food after work, but not everyone can do that.
See which brands are available at your local stores or even for delivery.
Having the option to pick up the food or get it delivered will be a game changer. Life is unpredictable and you never know when your schedule might change.
Taste
Read reviews and pay attention to how owners describe their dog’s reaction to the food.
It may have all the needed ingredients, but that doesn’t mean it’ll taste good.
Ultimately, you’ll only know what your dog likes if they try the food, but gauging how other dogs have reacted through reviews and comments will help you narrow down your options.
Comparison of Acana vs Orijen
Since Acana and Orijen have the same parent company and similar foods, how can you choose?
Here are how the key comparison features size up against each other.
Ingredients
Winner: Orijen
Beyond their mission to make biologically appropriate food, Acana has five rules for their products:
They must be protein rich and focused on meat.
The meat has to be extremely fresh.
There must be a large variety of meat for consumers to choose from.
There has to be a balance of meat, bone, organs, and cartilage that mirror what a dog would eat in the wild.
All fruit and vegetables must be fresh, too.
Acana doesn’t believe in using foods like potato, rice, and tapioca, since dogs wouldn’t normally be able to access these foods on their own in nature.
Orijen is made in the same way, with one key difference:
The formulas for Orijen products contain 85 to 90 percent meat and fish, while Acana only has 50 to 75 percent meat and fish ingredients.
Dog owners looking for more of a meat-based formula should browse Orijen products over Acana’s.
Because Orijen has more meat based protein in its products, I would prefer this brand over Acana.
While they’re both made with sustainably sourced and fresh ingredients, featuring more meat makes Orijen’s products more true to their motto of a naturally found diet in the wild.
However, the highest protein content may not be suitable for overweight dogs which need to lose weight.
Price/Value
Winner: Acana
Once again, the similar ingredients in these two brands make the prices and value similar across their products.
Consumers have noted though that Orijen typically costs more than Acana, because of its more costly meat ingredients.
If you’re looking for a brand that’s budget friendly, Acana will be the one you want to look at.
Prices will fluctuate across stores and websites, but because it will typically cost less than Orijen’s products.
Availability
Winner: Orijen
These two brands are sold at chain pet stores like Petco and specialty locations like groomers, training, or veterinary offices.
Both websites have location maps where you can enter your address and find the nearest store that sells the brand you’d prefer.
They’re also available to order online, which makes it hard to pick a winner.
This one will have to be left up to personal choice. See which brand is more available near you or through a website you prefer.
Our favorite pet-food website is Chewy.com. You can find Orijen there but not Acana, so the edge goes to Orijen.
Taste
Winner: Orijen
The taste for either of these brands will differ depending on your dog.
More people say their dogs love the taste of Orijen.
There must be something about having a higher meat content that changes the flavor into something dogs can recognize and enjoy.
Giving Orijen a try first may seem like the best way to go when it comes to taste.
Look through the types of food they have and see if any match ingredients that your dog is most used to, like chicken or beef.
X Factor
Winner: Both
What every dog owner should stop to think about is what the company is doing that may be the next brand of dog food they trust.
Champion Pet Foods is winning awards left and right, so they’re clearly onto something good.
Along with being voted Best Brand by the national American Choice Awards, they’ve won 18 other awards.
All of these major wins celebrate their formulas, innovation, and diligent staff. Because Champion Pet Foods produces both Acana and Orijen, this X factor works in favor for both brands.
Overall
Winner: Orijen
Orijen scores higher in both taste and ingredients, so you should check out that winning brand first to see what they have to offer.
While it is the more expensive brand of the two, it’s priced higher for a reason—it has a higher quality.
Conclusion
Personally, I’m going to keep Orijen in the back of my mind the next time Maggie needs a change in food. I trust their stellar reputation and their mission statement.
If it gets too pricey, I’ll just get a comparable Acana product when my budget gets tight.

I want to watch old Washington Capitals games but I don't know which. If you have any favourite games from the past, would you mind recommending some? It could be your favourite because they won, or they were hilarious while loosing, or even because something memorable or amusing happened at the game. I am asking you because you obviously have a lot of passion for this team, and also because you might have fellow Caps fan followers who might be willing to offer recs too. Thank you in advance!
Oh! This is a super fun question, so thank you. Hmm. This is hard because I know I’m going to write a ton and then remember “I LEFT OUT SUCH AND SUCH GAME” as soon as I hit post. So, yeah, if anyone’s reading this and wants to chime in with their favorite Caps games, please feel free!
And I’m not sure how you’re going to watch these games– hell, I’m not sure all the ones I’d recommend are available, but, I’ll try to be cognizant of that. So. That said. I should probably take this moment to note that if you want to have an actual convenient DVD, Amazon sells one of the 10 Greatest Capitals Games. You used to be able to buy it in the team store, but I haven’t seen it there in a couple years, so.
That particular DVD is very much geared to the Ovechkin era, which I don’t really see as a bad thing, but I don’t know you. And if you’re looking for much more of a deep dive into past Caps history, the DVD does include some of the most exciting and seminal games, but it’s much more current in general. I do get the mindset of people who have been around for this entire franchise and scoff at only focusing at 2005 on. I do get it! But the thing is, when you try to watch old games, you run into the fact they’re one, hard to find, two, generally of terrible video quality.
…Also the reviewer on Amazon who bitches because they think it should include the 4 OT Easter Epic should be soundly donkeypunched. Look, buddy, we all signed up for a disproportionate amount of disappointment as Caps fans, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be memorialized on a DVD. With that said, here are the games I love to rewatch or remember or I just think they’re neat. I’ll start with the DVD games because that’s convenient, and then go on with some other ones I like
Here’s what the DVD includes. All of these are good games to watch.
4/16/1988 - Dale Hunter scores the series’ winner in overtime as the Caps beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 to win Game 7 of the Patrick Division semi-final. This was the one they used in that “History will” series of NHL commercials because we have so few good playoff highlights.
4/17/1996 - In the Eastern Conference quarter-final against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team rallies from a three-goal deficit to win 6-4.
6/4/1998 - Joe Juneau scores the overtime winner in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals, and the Caps go onto their first (and only) Stanley Cup appearance.
10/5/2005 - Ovechkin’s first NHL game. He scores two goals, hits a dude so hard the glass pane falls out, and Caps beat Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
11/23/2007 - First Bruce Boudreau coaching game, an overtime win against Philadelphia. Ah, Bruce.
1/31/2008 - Ovechkin’s (first) four goal game against the Habs, where he broke his nose (again) and won the game in OT.
4/5/2008 - Caps win 3-1 against the Florida Panthers to gain their first playoff appearance in five years, after having to win 11 of 12 down the stretch and pushing to the last day.
4/11/2008 - Ovechkin’s first NHL playoff game, with him leading the team to a come-from-behind win over Philadelphia.
4/28/2009 - Russian legend Sergei Fedorov, in his first and last season with the Caps, provides the game-winning goal in Game 7 against the New York Rangers, leading the Caps to win 2-1 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. God, that goal. (Also, don’t look now, but that was a Game 7 the Caps won.)
5/4/2009 - The Ovechkin-Crosby dueling hat tricks playoff game with the Caps winning 4-3. (This was also where Crosby complained about hats being thrown on the ice. Like, there are many other reasons he’s never going to be on my Christmas card list, but this was him at some of his whiniest and pettiest, and when I think of reasons why I don’t care for the dude, this one tends to flash across my mind. Because I am also petty. EXCELSIOR.)
OTHER PLAYOFF GAMES.
HEY YES I KNOW EVERYONE MAKES FUN OF US ABOUT THE PLAYOFFS WELL HERE ARE SOME PLAYOFFS GAMES YOU CAN WATCH AND ENJOY.
4/20/2011 - Game four of the series with the New York Rangers. Yeah, yeah, the Caps have had their share of OT pain with the Rangers. But this comes from one of the shorter playoff series the Caps enjoyed in the Ovechkin era, and hey look, it’s a double OT WIN, which came about after the Caps had fallen behind 3-0 in the game, and then forced OT and won it on what was described as a “freaky sort of development play”. Marian Gaborik, in an attempt to clear the puck, accidentally yanked it away from Lundqvist and passed it directly to Jason Chimera, who promptly put it back in the net, and then skated the length of the ice in basically two seconds while his teammates tried to catch him for hugs. (Game 5 of that series was also pretty good because it’s one of the few times where the Caps were closing out a series and never looked worried during it. Just a nice solid win.)
4/25/2012 - Game Seven of the series with the Boston Bruins. Yeah, yeah, the Caps and Game 7′s. HERE’S ONE THAT WE ACTUALLY WON. This series was so fucking close and insane and it was the NHL playoff debut of a young Braden Holtby who came storming up from the AHL after both Tomas Vokoun and Michal Neuvirth went down to freak injury and went on to become the Bruins’s worst nightmare. (If you love Braden Holtby, you should remember that ex-Cap then-Panther Marco Sturm falling on Michal Neuvirth is what propelled Holtby into the playoffs out of necessity, and therefore most Caps fans probably owe him a drink.) And of course, this was the game of Joel Ward’s OT winner, with a helping of Mike Knuble’s gigantic ass in Tim Thomas’s face, (and I’m frankly still amazed the Caps didn’t get boned with a GI call on it), and man do I love me some Joel Ward.
4/27/2015 - Game Seven of the series with the Islanders. ANOTHER GOOD OUTCOME GAME SEVEN. This game seven on the other hand wasn’t as close (though every Caps fan was puckered and freaking during it) and the Caps were dominating. Joel Ward scored first for the Caps, and they outshot New York and were handling the Isles with ease, only to have everyone almost lose their shit when Holtby made a mistake and let Nielson tie. However, just as the Bruins series was Holtby’s debut party, the Isles series was Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Big Show. He scored with just over seven minutes left in the game on Halak, the goalie who’d tortured the Caps in 2010, and it was another successful Game 7 and series win. Since we don’t have a ton of those, enjoy it.
4/18/2016 - Game Three of the series with the Flyers. This was the, uh, Bracelet Game. But it was also a game where the Caps scored five goddamn powerplay goals to win 6-1 and took a 3-0 series lead for the first time in– well, ever. (At least in the seven game series era.) This is why it narrowly beats out Game Two, which had the Steve Mason “OH NO” goal given up to Jason Chimera.
4/19/2017 - I feel like I should include a Leafs playoff series game here from 2017 for completeness sake. Uh. Hmm. Let’s go with Game Four, since it had Tom Wilson saving a goal, then going down ice to score a goal, and was high-scoring, super-close, and barely squeaked away from going to OT.
OTHER REGULAR SEASON GAMES
1/1/2011, 1/1/2015 - Both Winter Classics. CAPS ARE UNDEFEATED IN OUTDOOR GAMES. Plus, they both serve as a good excuse to rewatch the HBO 24/7 and Epix Road to the Winter Classic specials.
2/7/2010 - Snowvechkin. Ovi had a hat trick against the Pens, the Caps had to come from behind, there was bizarre reffing, and Caps won. This was all the more impressive because DC was essentially under two feet of snow at this point and for the intrepid souls who basically walked into the city on foot to see the game, they got a real gem.
2/6/2011 - The Caps shut out the Pens 3-0 on Superbowl Sunday, but more dramatically, shaved ape on skates and career injury-causing cockmonger Matt Cooke tried to go knee on knee with Alex Ovechkin in the process and Nicklas Backstrom did his best to punch everliving shit out of him for doing it. It’s great seeing Backstrom get in Cooke’s face and throw hands afterthe shot on Ovechkin. If “ice in his veins and murder in his eyes” Backstrom is that visibly emotional, then somebody done done somebody wrong.
3/7/2011 - Holtby comes on in relief of Neuvirth in a game against the Bolts, when Neuvirth takes a shot off the mask and gets a sliver of metal in his eye. He held the Caps in it, and went on to help get the shootout win, 2-1. This was the very beginning of his career, and he’d go on to start the post-season against the Bruins and really blossom.
1/24/2012: Matty Perreault tricks the Bruins. This was an interesting game because it was one of the games Ovechkin was suspended for, after the NHL decided to make an example out of him and suspend him for a hit on Michalek but still require him to go to the ASG. Ovechkin not eager to play the NHL game of cookie-cutter villain / showdog to trot out and make money (boy, if you ever want to get an earful of rant, start me off on that particular suspension because I will not shut up about it, ever) and withdrew from the ASG. With Ovechkin out for suspension and Nicklas Backstrom concussed by noted shitstain Rene Bourque, and Mike Green also injured, it wasn’t looking good– until diminutive hero Matty P stepped up (and later got a shaving cream pie, courtesy of his proud captain who essentially rushed out of the press box in his suit and down to the ice to do it) to win the damn game with his hatty.
Fun fact with this game: Perreault somehow managed to high-stick Chara in the face during this game.Ponder that one for a minute. One might wonder how Perreault could even high-stick someone who routinely gets calls from Logan Airport to please move his head sothe planes can take off, without sneaking a ladder onto the ice or something.
2/24/2012 - Caps beat Habs 4-1. There’s an Ovechkin pretty goal in this one, but this real thing I remember is that Mike Green was itching to get back at Rene Bourque for concussing Backstrom, and boy did he. Green was playing Bourque because of the puck coming his waynear the net, but as soon as he saw the puck was past and out of danger, heturned his full attention to absolutely nailing Bourque and shoving him face-first into the goal-side. It was awesome.“Oh, did I fling you into the goal post? My bad, man.”
3/29/2012 - Matt Hendricks wins the shootout for Washington 3-2 and completely turns Tim Thomas inside out. At that point, you expected players like PKane or Datsyuk or Oshie to make beautiful, awe-inspiring SO moves.Matt Hendricks? Well, that’s a secret Caps fans knew and reveled in, and then welaughed at the other teams when they went, “Matt Hendricks, seriously? That’swho you're—oh, fuck. Fuck! fuuuuuuck! Where the fuck did that come from?!”
4/16/2013 - Ovechkin nearly tears Jay McClement’s head off for boarding Backstrom. This was a Caps 5-1 win over Toronto, and you’ve probably seen the clip in question. It was encouraging to see how much the team rushed to start a line brawl for Nicky’s sake. Backstrom, it should be noted, stood right back up and threw himself after the guy throwing himself at Ovi, so it went both ways.
12/10/2013 - I could describe all of Ovi’s four goal games, but this one against the Bolts, a 6-5 shootout win, was super dramatic and his first since 2008, a five year span. I’m just going to quote the RMNB recap of it: First, Mike Green committed a penalty and the Lightningscored. Then, Mike Green committed a penalty and the Lightning scored. Then, ina Shyamalany plot twist, Mike Green was on-ice when the Lightning scored. Holtbywas like, “Sick of you, Mike,” and he peaced out; Grubauer in. AlexOvechkin put the team on the board with an instant-score following a faceoff.Okay, buckle up. Here we go.
Troy Brouwer proved unable, so Nick Backstrom finished off the powerplay for him. Then, Alex Ovechkin happened. After Richard Panik earned a 5-minute major for boarding Karl Alzner, the Russian machine made Tampa pay. Twice. First, he laid up a cross-ice pass from Marcus Johansson, then he took a one-timer from Green to tie the game. Hats rained down. Another three-goal second period for the Washington Capitals.
Ondrej Palat put the Bolts back up in the third, taking advantage of some observational Capitals defense, but the Caps weren’t done. With the Caps net empty, Alex Ovechkin struck again, scoring his 4th goal of the night. HIS FOURTH FOARTH GOAL OF THE NIGHT.
12/13/2014 - Backstrom’s natural hat trick against the Lightning. He’s just so silky smooth.
10/23/2015 - Evgeny Kuznetsov’s hat trick and five point night against the Edmonton Oilers.
11/16/2016 - Nicklas Backstrom has another 5 five point night as the Caps skull the Penguins 7-1. Fun fact: At that point in time, Backstrom had had five five-point games, one more than Ovechkin, equaling Crosby, and one less than Malkin. And… no All Star Game appearances or Selkes, because the NHL is stupid.
If you want to know his other five point games up until then, they were:
11/16/2016 against Pittsburgh Penguins – 2 goals, 3 assists12/10/2013 against Tampa Bay Lightning – 1 goal, 4 assists02/04/2010 against New York Rangers – 1 goal, 4 assists12/05/2009 against Philadelphia Flyers – 1 goal, 4 assists11/15/2008 against New Jersey Devils – 1 goal, 4 assists
1/7/2017 - Backstrom’s 500th assist, on a TJ Oshie goal. It’s harder to pick out favorite Backstrom games because his game is so quiet and focused on operating in the shadows. Usually he’s having some kind of tremendous game that people focus on the dudes scoring the goals off the magical moves he’s making.
1/22/2017 - Ovechkin’s 1000th point. 35 seconds in, against the Pens. FUN FACT I WAS THERE FOR THIS ONE. I have a good friend from out of town who is a Pens fan (I’m as shocked as you), and for the past couple years she’s come to town from across the country when the Caps play the Pens, and my record with her was ABYSMAL. Until this game, I had never seen the Caps win in person at Verizon while she was there, but then this one happened, and she very kindly didn’t shove me over the ledge of the nosebleeds to my death, as she would have probably been in full rights to do after all the hooting and capering I was doing.
LOSSES? UH….
I don’t have a lot of recs for Caps losses because, well, I’m not a masochist. But if you must, I would recommend two particular ones first because the fights were bonkers.
11/21/1998 - Caps vs. Bruins. These is notable because of the goalie fight. Most notably, the one that’s been called “The Dance” between Byron Dafoe and Olie Kolzig, since– well, you’ll know it when you see it. The backstory is, Dafoe and Kolzig were close friends– best men at each other’s weddings, even. And when the Bruins and Caps threw down in their line brawl, Dafoe grabbed Dale Hunter (Dale Hunter having been just momentarily pried out from the dogpile and had just been separated from Ken Belanger) and Kolzig came down the ice to get in on the action. However, Kolzig decided to fight Ken Belanger (since the refs had turned around to deal with Dale Hunter) which was… uh, probably not a good idea.
Dafoe and Hunter had simultaneous “Ho-shit, son,” realizations, immediately stopped fighting each other, and flung themselves at Kolzig and Belanger respectively. Dafoe grabbed Kolzig and basically waltzed him away from Belanger before he could get his head smashed in, and Hunter went back to fighting Belanger. Kolzig and Dafoe pulled each other’s jerseys off while Kolzig seemed torn between trying to yell at Dafoe for yanking him out of the fight and laughing at his friend. Everyone on the ice got tossed and the Caps lost 5-4 in OT.
1/12/2010 - Caps vs. Bolts. You actually don’t really have to watch this whole game, which was a 7-4 loss. You just need to watch Steve Downie and Alex Ovechkin drop the gloves and prepare to fight, only to have Matt Bradley come streaking in at the last second and literally steal the fight out of Ovechkin’s hands. Dan Steinberg did a great write-up of it for the Sportsbog. It’‘s kind of hilarious because, well, Ovi and Downie were both completely taken by surprise. If you catch any of the later analyst clips, you can see Bradley watching Ovi and Downie yell at each in the box, keeping an eye on the unfolding events like a hawk, screaming urgently at Eric Fehr to get the hell off the ice so he can get on without getting the instigator, and then just making a direct beeline for the fight so he can get in front of Ovi and punch Downie in the face.
12/16/2014 - The never ending fucking shoot out with the Panthers. Ugh. I refuse to even google this to find highlights. WE WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE GODDAMN ROSTER. EVEN BROOKS FUCKING ORPIK SCORED. ON A TRIPLE DEKE. I still refuse to believe the entire thing wasn’t a fever dream from the mind of Roberto Luongo while passed out on the can. It did at least give us the notable mic’d up quote of “Coach Korn has a pitched tent in the stands right now,” though.
WAIT IT’S BAD LUCK TO END ON A LOSS, LET’S END WITH SOME MORE WINS.
1/08/2016 - This game had everything I say, in my best breathy Stefon voice. A quick two goal lead for the Caps. Giving up three goals to fall behind. Nicklas Backstrom slamming in a loose puck with less than ten seconds left to tie it. OT madness. Nate Schmidt and his skate helping Holtby save an almost slam dunk Ranger goal off the faceoff in OT. Ovechkin grabbing the saved puck and going end to end to score in OT. Ovechkin falling on his face. Happy, huggy chaos by the Caps on Madison Square Garden ice. Ovi one away from 500 goals…
1/10/2016 - Ovechkin’s 500th. This might be my favorite game (for now…), not because it was a blowout win, not because Ovechkin actually had two in this game, one of which involved dangling Erik Karlsson’s pants off, but watching the team come to celebrate with him, seeing how much they loved him and were overjoyed for him and had actually planned it out in advance without his knowledge… that’s just something special. It was just a really, really good moment that very little can spoil for me, no matter what.

Artist Spotlight: Ricky Glore, how can you stand-up with those hot cross buns?
Welcome to the Laugh It Forward Kickstarter Artist Spotlight! Every day you'll meet new cool artists doing amazing things, so check them out!
Today I'd like to introduce you to Ricky Glore!
Ricky Glore is a stand-up comedian, playwright, and actor. He began performing stand-up in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky in 2005. He's well-known in the area and frequently seen at Go Bananas or the Newport Funny Bone.
Glore moved to Chicago in 2010, after graduating with a BA in Theatre from Northern Kentucky University (emphasis in improv, minor in creative writing). He wrote, directed, and produced original storefront theatre plays and musicals there until 2017, in addition to attending classes at Second City and i.O (formerly Improv Olympics).
In 2017, Glore returned to the NKY/Cincy area, where he can be seen all around at comedy clubs and colleges. Joining local comedians Adam Minnick and Kim E Sherwood, Glore can also be seen on the road with The Brew Crew Comedy Tour, now and throughout the Summer of 2018.
Glore recently released his first book titled, A THESAURUS IS NOT A DINOSAUR & OTHER NAPKIN THOUGHTS. The book will feature "Napkin Thoughts" which appear in his stand-up act, accompanied by illustrations from artist Sarah Lalley.

Sam: I used to make the mistake most artists make when asked about my work, and get into the details like characters, plot and story elements. Those are important in telling stories, but I learned they don't really draw people in. So I'm going to ask you to tell us a short story about the more important question:
why do you create your art?
Ricky: I love to entertain. I was raised on old cinema, 50's-60's television and a lot of that material shapes my vision of entertainment and humor.
All entertainers have to have some sort of ego, but a big part of why I do what I do, is for the audience. Eliciting a laugh and taking someone's mind away from all of the others things going on in their lives, is ridiculously rewarding.
Sam: It is. It's always a great feeling when I hear "that was the laugh I really needed today!" Regardless of who it is... I'm just realizing I mentioned in a previous interview that I got that from the art director of Mad Magazine a few weeks ago, and now I'm wondering if people are thinking I was "name dropping". :P
It just stood out in my memory because I never expected to hear it from someone at Mad who's surrounded by satire all the time, and my first thought was "how bad are things getting at Mad?" :P They weren't, it was just good timing.
My second question is who or what has most inspired your work? If I compared you to someone, what names would you be most flattered to hear?
Ricky: When asked who my favorite comedian is, I give the same answer that I give when I'm asked who my favorite SNL cast member is; Phil Hartman. Phil was an every man, while also being a chameleon and a weirdo.
I am also heavily influenced by The Monkees. That's right...the t.v. show and musical group, The Monkees. They acted on a scripted show, they performed live, and they wrote. Even The Beatles recognized that The Monkees weren't like them...they were like the Marx Brothers...who I also have a great fondness for.
Hope and Crosby Road pictures were watched a ton when I was a kid, too. I watched Martin and Lewis movies, and thought some were good, but nothing could compare to the camaraderie that they shared.
Sam: I liked Hartman a lot. I was a big fan of News Radio until he died and it killed the show for obvious reasons. I think the lesson there is to take your mental health (and your family's) seriously and not hand-wave it and think, "they're always like this, it'll be fine." Deal with those issues early on.
I grew up listening to the Monkees, though I enjoyed their music more than their show. I dunno... I guess the show as a little too 70s for me, despite the fact that I LOVE That 70s Show. :P
I've never gotten around to watching any of the Marx Brothers films. I should.
Last question. What have you learned from your work, and what's your advice for younger creators?
Ricky: I've learned that you never fail, if you at least do. It sounds a bit like "Yoda" speak, so let me explain... If you put in the work, and you try, even if it doesn't "succeed" to some sort of standard, you still have not failed. Examine how it went, why, and then learn/grow from it. If you're learning and growing, and working hard, you are never going to fail.
Sam: Very wise advice. I'm taking that same attitude about my current Kickstarter. Certainly I want it to fund, but the worst case scenario is I do a post-mortem, learn from my mistakes and I try again, probably with another campaign. And statistically, the majority of people who continue with Kickstarter after a failed campaign (or two), do eventually get the hang of it.
Any final thoughts?
Ricky: Always remember why you're doing what you're doing. It's great that we all have a voice and want to be heard/seen/acknowledged, but keep asking yourself, "Who is this for?" Try to take away the answer, "Myself" and ask again..."Who is this for?" Understanding and knowing who your art is for, is not pandering or "selling out," it's connecting and giving yourself a deeper motivation for your craft. At least that's what I think.
I had a class in 6th grade, and the whole purpose of the class, the only thing we did, was learn how to play the recorder.
One day I asked my teacher, "Why?" Why did this class exist?
She replied, "It's to teach you that some things in life make no sense, and seem like they have no applicable use in the moment."
I said doughy eyed, "Really???"
She said, "Hell if I know! Get back to playing 'Hot Cross Buns.'"
Thanks!
Sam: Thanks for taking the time for this interview, Ricky, it's been a pleasure.
To see more of Ricky's awesome work, check out his website. You can also find him on Facebook, Twitter, and most importantly, if you enjoy his work, share this interview!
p.s. If you are also an artist and are planning a Kickstarter, you might find my Six Tips to Kickstarter Success helpful, plus links to other helpful resources. Also thanks to Andrea Demonakos who's handling the bulk of our rewards fulfillment to help our Laugh It Forward project go smoothly!

The BIG 4-0, Kansas City, MO, 1/18/19 - 1/20/19
Let me hit you with 40 un-interesting facts about my 40 years on earth!
I’ve woken up and gone to bed 14,600 days in my life.
I’ve put shoes on at least 50,000 times.
I’ve traveled to 31 of our 50 states.
I can’t drink more than 3 beers without waking up to a terrible headache.
I’ve purchased 1 mattress in my lifetime. For as much time as you spend on them, good ones are worth every penny.
I have a pile problem. I have piles of laundry on my floor. I have a pile of mail 4 months old. I have a pile of paperwork on my desk that stresses me out to look at. I have a pile of junk in the glove box in my car. I have a pile of fishing tackle that I swear will one day be organized in tackle boxes.
I have owned eight cars in my lifetime: 1987 Pontiac Grand AM, 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, 2011 Ford Explorer Sport, 2005 Ford Explorer Limited, 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 2011 Ford Explorer Limited, 2012 Jeep Wrangler and 2017 GMC Sierra.
I have called nine different cities home: Kansas City, MO; Raytown, MO; Waseca, MN; Duluth, MN; Bismarck, ND; Bloomington, MN; Eagan, MN; Rosemount, MN and Apple Valley, MN
I’ve broken five bones in my life: both arms, nose, foot, ankle…
…and only the ankle hurt on a similar level to my torn ACL/MCL.
My first day working at Blue Cross Blue Shield was September, 11, 2001. What a memorable day that was.
My starting salary was $31,000. I turned down a competing offer to work at a Plymouth small B2B business that essentially lined up maintenance companies (heating, plumbing, electrical) with businesses that needed urgent maintenance at their facilities. That job paid $40,000/year. I would have accepted it on the sole basis of salary, but Mom and Dad recommended I take the job at the stable company, BCBS instead. Which was a great recommendation. The other company went out of business 6 months after offering me the job. Thanks Mom and Dad!
I’ve spent nearly 50% of my life (18 years) working at BCBS. In those 18 years…
…I’ve had 19 bosses at BCBS: Marv, Karla, Rob, Cheryl, Phil, Kevin, Gary, Mary, Terri, Shawn, Deb, Patrick, Rajat, Jim, Zachery, Maggie, Karen, Janet & Jay
I used to manage a team. I used to want my boss’ job, and the job of my boss’ boss. No more. I love being an individual contributor. I love the flexibility to be a Dad whenever I want or need to be a Dad and not be tied to the office.
I’ve enjoyed video games since Dad got us an Intelevision with Dungeons & Dragons, Baseball and Racing. As video games have advanced in technology, I’ve played some pretty awesome games. My favorites over the years were Super Mario Brothers 2 (which Dad apparently waited in a long line for at KB Toys), Starcraft, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Black Ops 4 (Blackout).
My back, knees and feet hurt all the time.
I always order the same thing off of a restaurant menu, never changing up the order.
Unless I am going to the lake, I have the hardest time getting out of bed in the morning.
My favorite cereals now are the same cereals that were my favorite as a kid – Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Sugar Golden Crisp.
I prefer to have Diet Pepsi over any other beverage, even if it’s warm cookies or breakfast food.
Due to #18 & 19, I’ve put on an unwanted 20lbs in the past 5 years.
I have been planning the 12 Bars of Christmas for 35% of my adult life.
I love the smell and look of a freshly mowed yard.
I watch the stock market daily, and usually make poor investment choices that are based on my gut feeling (e.g. I saw a huge line at Home Depot this weekend, so I better buy some HD stock!)
I enjoy vacations so much more now then I did 20 years ago.
It took 17 years, but I am finally student loan debt free as of 2018!
In 2011, I ran a half marathon in 2 hours and 1 minute. The day after making that run, I found out I had caused a stress fracture in my right foot.
Dyan and I posed in this picture together 6 months before we ever met.
On our first date in November, we went to Carbone’s in Rosemount. We both ducked out of work a couple of hours early (nobody would notice, right?). We sat at the bar, each sipping on a drink. She only had one drink before switching to water. In my head I was thinking, this must not be going well if she is done after one beverage. We continued conversing but I couldn’t focus on any of the conversation because I was being blinded by the sunset as it’s shine was perfectly aligned with me through the front door. I am sure my ugly squinting was a very attractive first impression. I left the bar less than 2 hours later thinking I’d never hear from her again….
A few weeks later, she came to 12BoC with me. The rest is history. I’ve have checked off some bucket list fishing destinations such as Caddo Lake in Texas/Louisiana, Lake Fork in Texas, and the Atlantic Ocean in the Florida Keys..
...and the biggest bass I have caught to date came from a a small lake (Lake Marion) just 5 miles from my house. This largemouth was a whopping 5.25lbs.
I’ve been on the losing end of fishing tournaments WAY more than the winning end. The only tournament I’ve ever won was the Twin City Fishing tournament on Shields Lake in 2013. It was my very first tournament. Aaron and I weighed a giant, 21lb, sack of fish that only won by mere ounces. This might be my most favorite fishing story to tell.
If I could be in a different profession, my #1 would be a lawyer. I think I also would have made a good weatherman, pilot or engineer.
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and crave a Diet Pepsi. I will literally chug the entire can of pop at 3AM. Oh, the burn is so good!
My favorite guilty pleasure is playing video games with Josh.
My ideal retirement would be Arizona for Jan-Mar, and a cabin on a MN lake from Apr-Dec.
What does all this mean?
I AM GETTING OLD!
I complain to Dyan about 40 times per year about how much I miss seeing family and how little I get to spend with them. So for my 40th, Dyan planned a trip to KC to spend the weekend celebrating with my family!
Traveling from Minnesota to Missouri in January. What could go wrong?
Only a big ol’ snowstorm.
Great. We decided we’d get on the road early. Like 4AM-early. Based on the forecast, if we hit the road by 4, we should be just on the leading edge of the snow before it hits southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. So, here was the radar when we left Apple Valley vs. the radar when we hit Mason City.
We beat the storm!
We arrived in Kansas City early, around 11AM and spent some time bumming around at Bass Pro Shops so the kids could stretch their legs a bit. Daddy had to get a couple Alabama Rigs for the April tournament in the Ozarks. We then made a quick stop for lunch at Carrabba’s Italian Grill where mom and dad joined up with us.
After lunch, it was back to Bass Pro for some target shooting. Grandpa challenged the kids to some shooting with the laser rifles, which was a hoot. Next, we decided to see if we could check-in to our Airbnb. We had never rented a house through Airbnb, but Dyan suggested we book a house on this trip so that my parents and us could all stay in the same place. The Kansas City area had some unique rental homes, but we fell in love with pictures of The Fillmore Manor on the grounds of Unity Village. Neither of us had ever stayed in a house that had an official name!
From the moment we spotted this beautiful English Cotswold style home nestled among the gentle hills of Unity Village, we knew we had made the right decision. What a gorgeous setting for a beautiful home.
The kids made quick work of staking claims on beds and exploring the winding passages through the house. Josh and Melanie met up with us that evening and we all went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse, where yes, I got to ride in the birthday saddle while the restaurant sang Happy Birthday to me! Later that evening, we began assembling a very challenging 500-piece holographic puzzle.
On Saturday morning, we had breakfast at Unity Village (which was unexpectedly good) before heading back to the house for some more puzzle time. And we finished!
We lounged around most of the morning while the kids overloaded on Melanie’s birthday cupcakes and Mom’s World Famous ALL-CRISPIX Chex Mix and Scotch-a-Roo’s. Then we split up. The boys went to play Call of Duty at Josh’s house, while the girls went to the Trampoline Park.
Apparently, the trampoline park was a stitch!
And tuckered everybody out!
Around 1PM, we all met for lunch at Jack Stack BBQ, which was AHHHH-mazing.
We then returned home for some Scabble and an unsuspectingly fun game called, Farkle.
With as much Farkle as we played over the weekend, we’ve decided we need to own this game at home!
We spent a few hours that evening at the arcade having some drinks while playing laser tag, air hockey and video games.
We all had so much fun!
Unfortunately, the following morning we all had to say goodbye, and hit the highway for our homes.

Michaela Conlin has played Angela Montenegro on Fox Network’s BONES since it premiered in 2005. Over twelve seasons, Angela has evolved from a free-spirited, free-loving artist to a computer genius. She’s dealt with getting together, breaking up with and finally marrying colleague Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne), having their son, and coping when Hodgins lost the use of his legs and, temporarily, his emotional stability. Angela has also enjoyed success in both her original field of artwork and as a technological innovator (she’s just won a major award for the Angelatron, a computer program she developed that reconstructs faces from skeletal remains).
Now that BONES is building toward its series finale on Tuesday nights, Conlin reflects on her years as the warm, creative Angela at a party thrown by Fox for the Television Critics Association, where many BONES personnel are in attendance.
ASSIGNMENT X: Were you ready to stop doing BONES before now, are you ready to stop now, do you wish you weren’t stopping?
MICHAELA CONLIN: No. I mean, it’s definitely really bittersweet lace my shoe up. It was really wonderful seeing everybody today. We finished [in December], and I can’t believe it’s over. I feel like we really did what we were supposed to do on this show. I feel really lucky to be a part of it.
AX: Have you enjoyed the storyline with Hodgins’ bitterness about his inability to walk and Angela’s anxiety and frustration?
CONLIN: I have. I think they’ve really given us a lot to do, and it’s been so wonderful to be able to do all those things on the show. Like I said, I feel like we’ve really gotten to cover everything. For that storyline in particular, I’m really glad that they gave us some episodes to let us play out, and that they didn’t just wrap it up in one episode. And [show runners] Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson really did that beautifully.
AX: Looking back over the seasons, what are your highlights and low lights?
CONLIN: Oh, man. Highlight was the pilot, the first Christmas episode in the first season, the roller derby episode, the episode where Angela and Hodgins have a baby, the hundredth episode, the two hundredth episode – I mean, what an honor. What a ride.
AX: There has been a lot of discussion between Angela and Hodgins about having a second child, but it hasn’t happened so far. Were you happy not to have to play pregnant again?
CONLIN: I am a bit happy about it, yeah, I am, for sure. Look, I enjoyed it. It was a change after seven seasons [when Angela got pregnant in the show’s chronology], and something I really enjoyed doing, but I am definitely glad to be not pregnant any more on the show.
AX: We’ve seen Angela and Hodgins’ son Michael Vincent grow from an infant to a little boy. How are you enjoying playing the co-parenting relationship with TJ Thyne?
CONLIN: It’s been great. We’re having a lot of fun with it. It’s really been fun to just work with a real baby on set. That’s been a joy.
AX: Emily Deschanel, who plays Temperance “Bones” Brennan, was pregnant in real life while you were pregnant on the show, and they wrote her pregnancy into the script …
CONLIN: Yes. There have been some really wonderful scenes of the two of them [that] season talking about pregnant things, and that was great. I always love doing scenes with her.
AX: There are a lot of dead bodies and body parts on the show. Do you have a most significant gross-out?
CONLIN: There’s a big batch of [scalps]. That was pretty gross. There was like a [scalp] vat.
AX: Was there anything on BONES where you felt like, “I really don’t want to do this, but okay”?
CONLIN: I’m sure there was – actually, no. Because I feel like if I felt that way, I could go to the writers and talk to them.
AX: It sounds like your bosses on BONES have been great. Your former cast mate, John Francis Daley, who played Dr. Lance Sweets for a number of seasons, co-wrote the film HORRIBLE BOSSES. Have you ever had a horrible boss?
CONLIN: I have [laughs]. I did. I worked at an undisclosed location when I was fifteen, in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. I wanted a raise, and my boss said that I was taking too much time with extracurriculars – my theatrical career – and that my priority was not with the undisclosed location. So I was shot down. She was pretty horrible.
AX: During BONES’ run, you were also in the movie THE LINCOLN LAWYER, where you played a completely different character from Angela …
CONLIN: I did. It was awesome. It was so much fun. I got to play a young homicide detective, who is really in over her head. It was just great to do something different and have fun with that. And I [was working with] Matthew McConaughey and Bryan Cranston. It was fun.
AX: How is working on a big feature film compared to working on a big network series?
CONLIN: They’re similar in ways and different in others. It’s a limited run for a movie, so it’s a very fast, furious ride, whereas in a series, it’s sort of like a marathon. You have to train yourself for longevity and working in an environment of consistency. So they’re the same and they’re different in many ways.
AX: Possibly barring motherhood, what would you say is Angela’s proudest achievement, or the coolest thing she got to do?
CONLIN: I’m not sure how to answer that. I feel like the two hundred and thirty whatever episodes were pretty beautiful …
AX: Maybe when she made the virtual art museum for the dying little girl?
CONLIN: Yeah, that was really beautiful. I guess I really loved her and Hodgins and how they were able to work through everything that they went through in the beginning, where they were together and not together, and especially through the struggles with him being handicapped.
AX: Once you knew BONES was wrapping up, did you immediately start making plans for what you were going to do afterwards, or are you just sort of taking a little breather, and then seeing what happens?
CONLIN: We just got through it. So we got through it, it was the holidays, and now I’m back. Now I’m starting to think about that, for sure. I’d love to do something different.
AX: Well, you produced the feature film SPARROWS’ DANCE in 2012 …
CONLIN: Yes, I did, and I’m definitely interested in doing that again. I did an episode of CASUAL on Hulu last year, which was really wonderful.
AX: Is there a particular type of character or something you’d like to get to play that you haven’t gotten to do on BONES?
CONLIN: I’ve gotten to do quite a lot on BONES. But I’d love to do a story more about relationships, maybe less a procedural-style show, if I could pick.
AX: What do you think you’re going to miss most about BONES?
CONLIN: The cast, and the laughter. We laughed all the time. It’s a wonderful group of people. So those two things.
AX: And what would you most like people to know about the last season?
CONLIN: Wow. What do I want you to know? We see where a lot of these characters end up, and that’s a pretty beautiful thing for the people who have been watching the show from the very beginning. It’s pretty special.

— ARE YOU WHO YOU WANT TO BE,
introducing HUANG ZITAO, a MUTANT, — and currently a believer of NEUTRALITY. age ( twenty-three ) and gifted with the ability of MIND CONTROL, they are currently UNEMPLOYED.
WE ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN STORIES,
2000 Every day began with the color of white. Every sentence he’s ever listened to is interspersed with the glimpse of white teeth, sometimes veneered in yellow, but every open mouth always seemed the same in the end. It reminds him of the shift of temporary blindness when he’s taken out of the dark room and adjusting pin pricked teary eyes to a stark white room; sometimes there’s a single chair or steel tables, or there is a window, but they always felt displaced- not quite meant to be there, the same way he was never spoken to. Listening was the wrong verb to describe executing orders. Categorizing socialization by definition, but he never speaks, asking questions meant repeating expected answers- no thoughts, no objections, and no opinions: just executions. Then there are whiter lab coats, all of them with buttons clasped tightly to hide the greys or the blues of dress shirts underneath. But this one has a hand gloved in stark surgical turquoise, and he firmly presses a hand against his arm. Another occupied with a needle, “Are you ready?” muffled behind a surgical mask, it’s detached with concern. There were only procedures to be followed, not a question, just a procedure before the swift prick of a needle. It doesn’t matter if there’s an answer or a nod. No difference to every flitting hand to a keyboard, computing commands, running programs the way they’re meant to. Every verbal interaction to him is no different to keystrokes, just without buttons. Every day began with the color of white, spoken to, never speaking, never listening. He’s never familiarized with these rooms but he recognizes the empty lenses of cameras affixed in every corner, and counts down to every grating screech or crackling of intercoms. Familiarizing does not always mean comfort, and they call this coping instead. Today he’s settled in a chair, padded to imitate comfort, but far too big for a child and his feet dangles a few inches off the ground. The plain whites he wore were a size or two too big- swallowing him, a sleeve hanging loosely off a scrawny shoulder and this big chair only made him feel smaller. There’s another chair sat across him, less padded but more occupied. He listens to the quiet whirling of cameras and watches the gloved hand’s careful precision (if he’d known what care was, this was close to it) and the clear liquid slowly dispensing from the syringe, disappearing underneath his skin and into blood vessels. “How do you feel today?” “Fine.” A pause here. “Do you remember subject 003542?” It was Zitao’s turn to pause, and the slightest hint of a childish frown ripples on his forehead. “Your mother,” murmurs the older man, and the intercom crackles for a moment and a breath is held, he watches shoulders tense more than they were underneath the coat and relax once more when he answers. “No.” Familiarizing is not always comfort, and this is what coping is. He familiarizes with emptiness, not forgotten mothers. 2005 Every day began with the color of white. White was a hollow emptiness, a slate erased blank with every prickling of his eye burnt by stark white lights. It’s harder to be separated from definitions, when routine is all you’ve ever known. Then there’s a shift. How do you cope? There are bad days, and today was one of those bad days because he can’t quite cope. No ramblings of defining, only knowing a definite certainty, and clarity now felt more like his hands were on the jagged end of a knife. Realizing and recognizing emptiness is crushing, sharpness in clarity meant knowing that this was irrevocable- How do you cope How do you cope How do you cope How do you c- Every day usually began with white. But at the end of today’s bad day, he remembers a body hitting tarmac somewhere in the middle and the cold sinking and bite at the end when he closes his eyes. Early 2010 He’s sixteen, enrolled into high school for the first time after being adopted and home schooled- needing time to adjust, step-parents insisting this as the next step. He’s growing out of boyishness, but the trauma that had precipitated from waking up in a body bag on the cold bank of a river and whatever forgotten memories he had repressed years ago had outgrown long ago. The scruffiness of the sixteen year old boy his body exhibits doesn’t quite match the jaded look in his eyes, surveying the sea of curious faces settled in their seats on the first day. He’s silent, and silence somehow means subservience. Subservience meant weakness. Zitao avoids and is socially avoided, but he isn’t lonely either, despite what clueless teachers thought when they attempt to talk to him after classes (he hears what they don’t say, I feel sorry for you) and whatever rash assumptions his classmates has (he hears them too- fucking weird, don’t talk to me). He barely talks, not necessary. But he hears, and suddenly he realizes that these were no intuitions, these were their thoughts. Talking without being able to answer, only listening, there’s an uneasy familiarity in this that he can’t quite explain, far from veneered sentimentality or nostalgia but something else deep inside him is evoked and leaving clear prints in the dust of repressed memories. It’s easier to crush something weaker, and it’s more justified than it is easier when everyone else thinks like you do. So you push as far as you can go, leave poorly written threats, break into the silent kid’s locker, rip every replacement textbooks and notebooks just to see what he’d do, just to see if he cracks just the slightest. But he doesn’t, and it fucking pisses you off, so it’s three against one during class hours in an empty janitor’s closet. There’s a hard shove to the wall, and a punch underneath his right rib just to force a reaction. The sleepy dust prints in Zitao awakens, and he remembers a question he didn’t have an answer to before- How do you cope? Stop- Stopstopstopstopstop
The other boys suddenly find themselves paralyzed, and the defiance that he had repressed and bottled in smothered silence bursts open without calculation and Zitao’s first fist lands in another boy’s face. How do you cope? His fist lands hard, but without aim (just anger) and lands on orbital bone. How do you cope? Fuck you. Another punch How do you cope? Another and another, one lands on fragile nose cartilage, he doesn’t stop to pause and unwind just for last minute unfounded guilt to settle in. His knuckles begin to hurt, he’s sure he’s maybe broken phalanges by the eighth punch, but he can’t stop. He ignores the pleas. Fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you. Fuck you. He only stops when the janitor finds him, his mother is called and he drops out of school. 2017, Incheon, present time. If he had ever found some semblance of a home and some kind of newfound purpose in the Foundation, then he’d already lost it when the inevitable happened. The inevitability was the fear of the unknown, and the subsequent fallout of it all. Why take chances? There’s never quite been home, and an orphanage he’s forgotten the name of and sure has become wreckage over the years didn’t quite count as one either. If he had a purpose at one point, he doesn’t quite remember what it was, and wandering around never helped either. If he had been closer to remembering, Zitao’s certain he’s found himself further away and even more lost than before.
THERE IS FLESH AND BLOOD BEHIND THESE TALES,
Zitao prefers to keep to himself, partially because he’s used to his own solitude, but largely because of his stunted social and interpersonal skills, and would rather not take any chances in general, hence he socially avoids as much as he can. He’s also less of a talker (more of a listener instead), restricting himself to only talking when talked to and only saying the absolute necessary things if he has to, again, in part of not wanting to take risks or make efforts he deems to be unnecessary or effortless in the end. To him, if he’s currently fine in whatever state he’s in (alone, almost always), then no changes are needed. While he’s mostly content in being alone, he’s not necessarily lonely either. (+) observant, analytical, neutral, self-determined,calm,understanding (however not necessarily empathetic) (-) apathetic, distant, introverted, secretive, cynical
AND EVEN MONSTERS CAN LEARN TO WEEP.
Mind control is the ability to take over the mental and physical aspects of a target. Through mind control, thoughts, emotions, memories, mental conditions and the subconscious are made accessible and can be manipulated. Currently Zitao is capable of using his ability at will without the need of direct contact (eye/physical contact), however will require maintaining close proximity to maintain control. Mind control may also grant access to several targets, however at his current level, it requires extreme amounts of physical and mental power.
APPLICATIONS : -
Mind reading zitao is able to read minds. However, this is not an ability that persists, it is something that can be done by will and does not require a lot of concentration or mental power.
Puppetry / motor-skill manipulation a breakdown of the ability to manipulate the physical aspects of a target.
i) he can take control of the target(s) motor functions to aim specific body parts, however this can be against their will while conscious.
ii) if combined with the manipulation of the subconscious, it grants him full physical control over the target. Full consciousness of a target only allows him partial control.
Mental manipulation access to the psyche allows him to:
i) access memories. With access, it allows him to retrieve select memories - even ones that are forgotten, hidden or repressed are accessible with higher concentration.
*currently limited to accessing memories.
Ii) manipulate a target emotionally and psychologically. Ex: using a hidden fear or repressed trauma (through memory access) to affect targets.
Iii) manipulate, modify, control thoughts and mindsets. Ex: to make someone be more agreeable or cooperative
iv) manipulate the subconscious of a target, either to be partially conscious or unconscious altogether.
Fear inducement
i) he can invoke a sense of fear and dread through emotional manipulation, which may cause an altered perception of the target’s surroundings to become more dark or foreboding.
Ii) a combination of memory access, emotional and psychological manipulation allows zitao to weaponize existing trauma, fears and phobias against a target.
*currently limited to pre-existing traumas/fears/phobias
mental hallucinations
i) a culmination of mental manipulation and fear inducement is the ability to create hallucinations/illusions. However, they are not solid or physical as it can only be experienced and seen by the intended target(s).
Ii) hallucinations and illusions he creates are a byproduct of the target’s fears, phobias or traumas. Ex: re-creating traumatic experiences, creating scenarios involving a fear or phobia.
Iii) despite no physical harm capable of being caused however, it is capable of causing psychological damage (ranging from hysteria to mental breakdowns).
*at his current level, he is capable of causing distress/anxiety. However full-on breakdowns, mania or hysteria is out of his range at the moment
LIMITATIONS :
Mind control
1. While the ability can be used at will, he must be within close proximity to the target to be able to utilize it. If of his range, he is incapable of affecting the target(s). The target(s) may also require to be in his line of sight for him to keep them under his control.
2. He must be emotionally and mentally stable to exercise power/control. Emotional and mental instability will affect him, this can cause his abilities to backfire and damage himself in the process.
3. Controlling multiple targets at a time requires a high amount of energy and strength. More targets means more energy/strength is required, and will drain him of it much quicker. He is incapable of replenishing to generate more energy, and may require downtime to recover. This can be an impediment when in the situation of a battle field, as he’s unable to deflect or reduce damage while recovering, rendering him almost entirely vulnerable.
4. He can only exercise control over his target(s) for a limited amount of time. Prolonged use will cause:
- pressure on his brain from exerted power. Resulting in brain injury ranging from mental instability to physical repercussions
- his ability will start taxing out on his physical strength (as a source of energy) as his mental strength/energy depletes, debilitating him and cause blackouts.
5. May also experience physical strain after a certain period of time:
- nosebleeds, headaches, persistent migraines, nausea, overheating (mental overload), seizures - the amount of power exercised exerts on his brain, this may cause him traumatic brain injury when excessive power is acquired. In less severity of things, he may only experience headaches and nausea. This also depends on the amount of power exerted.
- moderate to severe debility (depending on amount of power exerted). Because of this, he must be highly calculated on how much power and control is exerted.
6. May also experience psychological impacts:
- dissociation: unable to distinguish reality and illusion after an extended period of time.
- inability to comprehend the repercussions of his actions. This will affect his ability to control his power. When this occurs, he will go to extreme lengths to ensure that he is in control.
- a combination of dissociation and inability to comprehend external reality may cause him a complete loss of control of his powers. Loss of control can cause emotional distress, affecting his (general) stability. As a result, he can be unpredictable and proactively aggressive; both capable of causing harm to himself and others. In this stage, he is capable of being highly destructive/dangerous.
- temporary bouts of anterograde amnesia may occur. However, if severe, psychogenic amnesia may be triggered for an extended period of time.
Mind reading
1. If zitao is particularly emotionally unstable, he may be unable to control it and tune it out. This can cause him to be overwhelmed by too many thoughts when in large crowds.
2. It can also be difficult to target a specific person when in large crowds, unless he’s within close proximity to them.
3. Language barriers may also inhibit him from understanding a thought, as it is currently incapable of the automatic ability in translating thoughts to be understood by him.
4. Certain thoughts may be fragmented and abstract to decrypt. Impulsive thoughts may also be difficult to decipher, while intense thoughts may be audibly louder to him.
Puppetry / motor-skill manipulation
1. Those with a strong will may be difficult or overpowering for him to control, especially when targets are conscious.
2. Controlling unconscious targets can be extremely draining even though it reduces difficulty. He needs to constantly maintain the target’s consciousness in the desired state, and control their physical actions, which can quickly tire him.
3. Controlling and focusing on multiple targets requires focus. More targets means more concentrating is needed, which can quickly amount to exhaustion, thus causing weakened control.
4. Currently incapable of remote mind control. Because of this, he may need to be close to the target(s) in order to keep exercising control over them, longer distances can limit or weaken control, cause lag-time or difficulty in breaking control.
Mental manipulation
1. Access to memories and emotions may indirectly affect him when in an emotionally and/or psychologically unstable state, especially emotions that are negative or memories that are traumatic. Exercising caution and control over his own emotions does not entirely negate side-effects, and he may risk being overwhelmed after an extended amount of time.
2. Modifying thoughts and mindsets may not be easy against targets with a strong will. Weaknesses of mind reading such as language barriers and inability to piece or decrypt abstract or fragmented thoughts can also apply.
3. Manipulating the subconscious of a target may also be extremely taxing as it requires constant maintenance in order to keep a target in the desired state of consciousness. More so if unconscious,
Fear Inducement
A shared fear between the target and himself can cause it to backfire against him, affecting him with direct psychological/emotional impact. Because of this, a high level of stability is required, however, this does not always guarantee him immunity to its effects.
Mental Hallucinations
1. Persistent maintenance and control is needed in order for the hallucinations to occur and affect the target(s). If there are disturbances, illusions/hallucinations created may be rendered ineffective and the target(s) may break out of the hallucinations.
2. Re-creating traumatic experiences or terrifying hallucinations (either based on set fears or another generated source of fear) can also affect him if he does not exercise control and detach himself from the hallucination itself.

The constellations give witness when men will not. This same signal was in the skies for two years when Yeshua Jesus was born in -3 BCE. It has been in our skies for two years since the Sabbath year 2014-15.d The Lunar Tetrad signaled the beginning of the fight for Jerusalem. The 8.21.17 solar eclipse signaled the troubles of Virgo’s water breaking.
Hurricane Jason was number 11…. Hurricanes: Paul ‘Harvey’ is telling us the ‘rest of the story’ being #9.a number of severing.. and Irma is #10…(yood..hand of G-d). There are nine stars making up Leo and three planets sit at his paw for a total of twelve (tribes of Israel) and twelve shakings.
Venus (Morning Star – Yeshua Jesus), Mars is next (Michael The Archangel of War). and the closest to the virgin is Mercury (Gabriel The Messenger Archangel). The messenger brings the message of WAR…who fill fight with Yeshua…to bring Jupiter’s (Father God) peace to the world. Michael was delayed 21 days as he was fighting with the Prince of Persia (Iran) earlier in scripture. He is the Warrior angel. Twenty-one days is that 20.6 half hour of silence that is spoken of in Psalms. Jacob was with Laban 20 years and came out of his silence from his family bringing forth Benjamin in the 21st year. Twenty-one years will end the silence….or it begins the silence…depending which end of it you’re on. Don’t think Greek…but think patterns…and Hebrew and Middle Eastern. Know the signals…
As I type Jupiter, (Father G-d) is half out of the birth canal of the virgin Virgo. The Hurricanes and earthquakes show the water breaking and the earth shaking. The total alignment of these constellations like this have not been seen for 7000 years.
Rosh Hoshanna is the Feast of Trumpets….September 21, 2017. Open your bibles….Draco the dragon (Satan) will swipe his tail and drop one-third of the hosts of heaven (evil spirits) to the earth. Comets?
Everyone should look up and take Revelation 12 very seriously. The woman is hidden…not taken…for 1260 days…42 days…3.5 years. The battle is won by the man-child (Yeshua) returning…but not before two witnesses intentionally speak more stress on the earth. The earth kills these witnesses and even give each other gifts in celebration of it. There are 144,000 virgin male Jews that also will be martyred for the cause The Torah. They represent the twelve tribes of Israel…the nine stars and three planets that make up twelve shining object in Leo…The Lion of Judah. This Lion leads Virgo that has the sun bathing her for all to see…and the dark moon at her feet…as she crushes the one at her heel…Satan. Do you know of any religion that uses the sliver of the moon as their symbol?
These witnesses have tried to bring God’s instruction back to the earth. Many are killed for this testimony and then it’s done…The earth is purified with Satan and demons locked up for 1000 years…one day…so men will be shown how to REST in The Anointed One…The Messiach.
2015 – Wars begin just before Rosh Hoshanna…the trumpet was blown. Eclipse warnings began that Feast of Tabernacles….two years ago…as I sat watching a couple share their wedding vows at Lake Paradise. It pictured what our Creator has meant for us to be…joined with him in a marriage covenant…that is seen in The Feast of Tabernacles..15 days later.
2016 – The struggle for leaders that will love Israel…. The last Trumpet of G-d was Trump… But, he can not divide Israel…there is NO two-state solution. The day his son-in-law was there and acted as an outlaw to Israel…Hurricane Harvey formed and then hit quickly. In 2005 Hurricane Katrina formed the day the last Jew was removed from Gaza. She hit the day the bulldozers plowed under their Gaza homes. They promised the Palestinians that Gaza/Hebron would be their new home. The Jew was never to return. When you remove someone’s home…they can NOT return. Katrina victims moved to Houston and never returned…but were displaced once again by Harvey. Our Creator will NOT forget…and will keep chasing us down as we continue to revolt against His plans. (He wants Israel in ALL her land…and more than she has now.)
2017 – Creation is at war with humanity…especially America at Rosh Hoshanna 2017.
2018 – Mankind seeks shelter in caves and wilderness with the woman to whom they have agree to graft into… The God man-child, The Messiach.
Read these current blog posts while you can. Many in Florida no longer have cell service…no electricity for several weeks. Texas the same. What has happened and what is still going to happen? Check with G-d….is he talking to you? There is a time of silence… time is about up…. To whom are you trusting your life to? As in the days of Noah has more meaning than you might ever know. Cain, Lot, Jonah all ran from God. Job held the course and did NOT deny who had created him. Noach built an ark showing his faith..Abraham and Sarah held the course for 100 years to see the ‘Seed’ Isaac of whom birthed Jacob renamed, Israel.
Yah’s (G-d) War is about establishing the earth back to the beginning of correction instruction on worship. If you know him…you will know his father…and nothing that He spoke was not from the father. They are in total agreement with this plan. There is a birthing taking place with troubles for 2520 days; 360 days year x 7 = 2520. There are problems for 1260 days….three years….and then Daniel speaks of 1290 days…add 30 days (1 month). It is a marker of still trouble….and then Daniel says that if you can make it tothe 1335th day you’ll be blessed. Read my my current blogs and you’ll see what being blessed means.
Are you willing to multiply on the earth? Are you willing to produce children that you instruct them in The Torah? The ways of the Bible as understood by Yeshua Jesus? He rested on the Sabbath…he did not have pork BBQ…or Pepperoni pizza…. Certain things were laid out that have proven to be very healthy for us…but that doesn’t even matter… We do it because He first loved us and died for the penalty that we bore because of sinning. He took that when The Creator himself laid his life down willingly on the cross (stake). No Jew killed him…if so…then I did it too and you did it too…we all did it…it ordained from the foundation of the world to make that sacrifice for mankind. Just as this day is ordained in the heavens from the foundation of the world. There is no surprise…in what is ready to happy.
Visual sightings are available, verbal messages have been sent and our bibles give witness to some of the greatest events to ever happen. They truly will be a Wonder…just as He is our Wonder. And all of this will send us into situations that will test our ‘faith’. It is time the Christian will give witness not to Mother Nature, but to the one really in charge of every hair on our head….The L-RD… The Great I AM has found us wonting…as the handwriting on the wall expressed to King Belshazzar. He became like a bird with claws and ate from the ground as a donkey. But, in the end his sanity came back and his kingdom was restored…but he truly was a changed man and knew that The Creator was in charge of all of life….
We’re going through this my friends as every pattern shows it. No one was lifted out…even Moses died…Enoch died at Mt. Sinai over 500 years of age. We haven’t had the entire story and thus have been lead astray. We prefer books that man tells us are the BEST to read because they don’t think we can look through the chicken bones and pick out the meat. Read The Book of Jubilees….let’s get straight so our King of Kings will still hear your prayers as you talk to him moment by moment as a comet comes to burn the earth. It will shake more than ever before…and it is all for us to one last time….ask ourselves…What do we believe. I believe in Yeshua, The Messiach because he first believed in me. I will NOT turn my back…but keep typing as fast as I can..giving testimony to the ONE true name in which to be saved….
YESHUA
It is in this name that a broken calf raised it head and then it’s hoof…. That will be my next witness in order to our Creator glory. Do you have a witness story? Pray and ask in sincerity….He does hear our request because He sees our hearts love Him…
Amein and love to each of you! We are only safe in Him…don’t run…TRUST….is enough!
Constellation Virgo lead by Lion of Judah in skies today..King of Kings being birthed by 9.23.17. The constellations give witness when men will not. This same signal was in the skies for two years when Yeshua Jesus was born in -3 BCE.
