seeing the way dukat hits on kira (and gilora's relentless negging with o'brien too honestly <3), I think we might be forced to consider what should have been the inconceivable possiblity that garak's flirting with julian would actually be considered quite restrained and tasteful by cardassian standards. either that or dukat is doing frat bro flirting while garak is pulling some regency era novel equivalent moves, 'then I will sit here consumed with lust for the rest of the evening' style

Not to be too gushy and take silly gay aliens too seriously, but the fact that I get to type the phrase 'canon Garashir' is so powerful. Especially after decades of two very clearly queer characters being denied their personhood and forced to fit into a heteronormative mold that was so clearly ill fitting, all for the sake of the comfort of bigots. It's such a win and it is more gratifying than I can put to words. And the fact that they're allowed to be happy and comfortable and get to contribute in such meaningful ways withing their lives. It really does feel like every queer and neuro-divergent person who ever saw themselves in such rich and complex characters is now getting told "We really do see all of you. And you deserve a happy ending too."

#i have such a well of emotions over the whole thing #like from what it means for the characters to how andy and sid must have felt to just the sheer giddiness i feel watching it. but also this #this aspect is so fucking powerful and i think it deserves a very real place in the discussion of this episode along with everything else #i really do feel fucking seen. like actually jokes completely aside thank you lower decks and thank you andy and sid. everyone came togethe #to give us so much and to tell us that we dont need to hide parts of ourselves away to appease anyone anymore.#its so fucking powerful and affirming #lower decks #elim garak #julian bashir #garashir #canon garashir
