Stalkyoo After the Formal (pt.1) - Role Reversal and Yeong-Gi's Denial of His Feelings
The black and white formal acts as a turning point in Shin-ae and Yeong-gi’s relationship, establishing their friendship and giving them moments of romantic tension.
It all leads to the emotional finale on the hospital balcony, where Yeong-gi first feels genuine romantic feelings for Shin-Ae.
This analysis looks at key moments that show how Shin-ae and Yeong-gi’s relationship changes after the formal arc — displaying emerging romantic feelings, and why their roles seemed to have reversed: it is now Yeong-gi who is hesitant to get any closer to Shin-ae, and she is the one eager to connect with him.
Ep. 75 | Elevator - Why the awkwardness and melancholy?
When Yeong-gi first sees Shin-ae after the balcony he seems quite... polite and distanced. He doesn’t act like the Yeong-gi of the past at all. He doesn't joke around with her like he used to... He doesn't smile or act friendly and he awkwardly turns away after looking at her.
Tumblr media
He only smiles in the first panel, and his expression is… complicated. Note his soft smile, slightly closed eyes and slightly furrowed brows.
It's a soft, fond but slightly melancholic look.
This mixed expression is caused by genuine fondness for the person it’s for, with the additional tension and slight melancholy/sadness caused by the fact that this fondness is unspoken. This Look™, is the first expression he gives her after the balcony.
(But if I’m speaking more subjectively, this is the look people give those they love, but where it is unspoken. The melancholy associated with the expression makes it less likely to be purely platonic in nature — platonic friendships don’t often have this sense of something hidden and unspoken, and more often have relatively straightforward reciprocal affection. The romantic nature is also emphasized since The Look™ is being given to someone Yeong-gi has known for only a few weeks/months.)
At the least, this unspoken fondness may explain why Yeong-gi seems so awkward afterward:
He senses a difference in their feelings towards each other (he feels this because he is somewhat aware of the true nature of his, but Shin-ae is not/would not be at this stage)
He does not appreciate the nature of these feelings and does not want to entertain them (for reasons mentioned in my balcony analysis)
Shin-Ae also notices his odd demeanour and tells him she thought he'd be more excited - Yeong-gi's behaviour is purposefully shown to be different now. It's hard to imagine this is the same guy who'd joke around, easily and outwardly showing his joy to be around Shin-ae.
Tumblr media
In Ep. 78, Yeong-gi is called by Shin-ae after she’s forced late when Dieter passes out. He has The Look™ while speaking to her. (Notably, Yeong-gi only has this look when they are not directly looking at each other). When Yeong-gi picks her up, he seems awkward once again… especially due to seeming like a third wheel in Shin-ae and Dieter's budding relationship.
Tumblr media
He has The Look™ in images 1, 2, and 4. And in image 3, he seems very awkward being with Shin-Ae and Dieter. (I'd argue his expression also shows displeasure — he slightly, and under-the-surface, doesn't like what's happening).
Ep. 85 | A Bear and Allergies - Compassion, but only at a distance
After Shin-ae’s sister invades her home and Shin-ae calls over the bois, she is obviously quite unnerved and uneasy. Yeong-gi immediately recognizes this and in aims of comforting her, tells Dieter to give her a hug (which he is unable to do without freaking out so he gives Shin-ae a hug using a bear as proxy).
Yeong-gi understands how Shin-ae feels and wants to comfort her, but instead of doing this himself (eg. by talking to her, giving her a pat on the shoulder, etc...), he tells Dieter to. Although he's being a good wingman, there’s an interesting sense of Yeong-gi making sure to keep his distance, even if he wants to be there for her.
When Shin-ae notices Yeong-gi’s allergic reaction (which they think may be a fever), she reaches to touch his forehead to gauge his temperature — he quickly declines and moves her hand aside.
Tumblr media
In my black and white formal analysis, I discuss the motif of distance and how it’s seen in Shin-ae and Yeong-gi’s dynamic — and how it’s represented through touch and their hands. Characters who want to connect emotionally will also show physical signs they do (like extending your hand to someone). Emotional connection often requires characters to physically be present together as well. Characters who want to avoid connection avoid touch and keep their distance.
Here, Shin-ae shows a desire to “reach” Yeong-gi by helping him, and this is reflected when she extends her hand and reaches to touch his forehead. A refusal of her touch in this case is also a refusal of her help and her attempt to connect to him. Shin-ae shows some slight discomfort at this – it was a harmless attempt to help him, but he doesn’t want her to.
Yeong-gi follows with an explicit verbal refusal:
“Again, you don’t have to worry about me… You just had your home broken into, you need to put yourself before me, alright?”
This is fitting with Yeong-gi’s overarching character arc — he has an extremely low sense of self-worth that prevents him from accepting others’ concern. Him telling Shin-ae to put herself before him also fits his thinking: that those he cares about are more important than him, Shin-ae included. And it doesn’t matter if what she actually wants is to help him.*
*This is an interesting trait of Yeong-gi's... despite caring deeply for Shin-Ae, he undermines her intelligence and wishes by not accepting her affection for him, and carefully controlling how close she gets. Although born from insecurity, it is also, fascinatingly, covertly manipulative.
Ep. 85-6 | Bills - I care about you
Yeong-gi asks Shin-ae if she is able to get to where she is staying for the night and she gives him more information than he asks for, showing new emotional vulnerability. He notices this and gives her The Look™ — he appreciates that she is now more open to him.
Tumblr media
When Yeong-gi sees her overdue bills, he makes sure to let her know that her financial struggles do not determine her worth and anyone who tells her otherwise isn’t worth her time.
“Remember you’ve always got someone to lean on with your friends, okay?”
His spiel is incredibly heartwarming, and we can understand that he states these things from his own heart. However, he keeps it impersonal, stating "your friends" (not “me” or “us”) and instead allowing Shin-Ae to define whether he fits under that category as well. Yeong-gi is no longer trying to assert his friendship anymore.
After opening up more in response and letting the boys take her to the hospital to stay with her father, she removes the "Stalker" in Yeong-gi's contact name in her phone, showing development in their relationship since they first met and a large difference in how she sees him now — they're friends, and she thinks so too.
Ep. 89 | Insolence, but only for Shin-ae (and only in secret) & a Kousuke/Yeong-gi parallel
After learning of Shin-Ae's etiquette classes, Yeong-gi enters Kousuke’s office, specifically to start trouble with him. Yeong-gi is shown to try his best lately to obey his family members (namely his father), but once again we see how he is fine with starting trouble, even if it costs him, if it's for those he cares about — despite Kousuke reminding Yeong-gi of the repercussions of getting in trouble with their father, Yeong-gi doesn’t back down.
Kousuke: “You know you’re only going to anger father if he catches you being indolent.”
Yeong-gi: “I don’t give a crap if he finds out.”
Yeong-gi then aggressively asks him about the classes Kousuke put her in:
Kousuke: “It’s for her own good.”
Yeong-gi: “What do you mean, her own good?”
Kousuke: “... She’s the worst employee I’ve ever seen, so I signed her up for classes to fix her issues.”
Yeong-gi: “Have you ever voiced your concerns… tell her what she can improve upon? … She may have her flaws, but she’s a lot more capable than you think!”
Kousuke: “I’m preparing her for what’s to come her way in the future.”
Yeong-gi: “You don’t even know if she wants this career for her future! Everytime I see her, she’s miserable. Like she wants to leave. She’s uncomfortable!”
In my black and white formal analysis, I discuss how there are multiple instances— where Yeong-gi and Kousuke, as well as how they affect Shin-Ae, are purposefully contrasted — and this is paralleled here.
Consistently in these instances, (although Kousuke’s intentions are often good) Yeong-gi is shown to be the one who best understands Shin-Ae. At the very least, Yeong-gi is shown here to care for Shin-Ae enough to confront his brother and potentially face the wrath of his father, despite trying especially hard to be in their good graces recently.
However, it is important to note — Yeong-gi goes out of his way to ensure his intentions of helping Shin-ae are indirect and she does not know. Instead, he tries to help her in roundabout ways, secretly.
Yeong-gi does not want his good intentions to reach her.
Conclusions
Yeong-gi displays a notable difference in how he acts, especially around Shin-ae. His new emerging feelings conflict his insecurities, resulting in a standoffish Yeong-gi who is secretive in his affection, and calculatingly tries to distance himself from Shin-ae. But... this isn't what he truly wants, and is instead, another form of self-sabotage.
However, as time goes on, Yeong-gi cannot keep this facade up indefinitely... and he's occasionally caught off guard, giving us glimpses into what he truly feels.

~~
"It's time for Nakie Stream!" I giggled as I looked into the camera hooked up to my computer. Dozens of people had already logged on and the number was slowly creeping into the hundreds. I blew kisses and greeted the new arrivals as I showed off my boobs and bounced them a little. Even as I stood around and posed I was getting a few tips. This was all I did it for. I didn't really enjoy it nor did I want to continue doing it for the next ten years of my life. But for now it was another addition to my finances.
I slipped on my pink kitty headphones and connected the bluetooth. The ears lit up, twinkling neon. They were my favorite and I spent some time talking about the specs. Many people would rather just watch me fuck myself but some were actually interested in the fact that I was a "gamer girl™". I hated that title but whatever sold the aesthetic. The truth was that I was indeed a nerd. I had a master's degree in computer sciences and web design, I created websites for companies under an alias and different VPN so nothing would be connected to my other life. The other life, this camgirl/cosplayer/social media influencer/let's player, was my home. I wanted to travel across the country to show off the cosplays I engineered and get my foot in the door to speaking with video game companies through my let's plays. I could sail on that life and would never have to step foot in a retail store or office space again. I would have my own freedom.
I signed softly as a saw a drop in viewers and stopped talking about the headphones. This was the hardest part, being the stupid sex doll for the ones who were only interested in getting off. I turned on the video capture and started up the game so I could properly start my stream. I was just about ready to sit in my gaming chair when I felt warm thighs beneath me. I jumped up and turned quickly, surprised by my boyfriend. He pulled me into his lap, a poised erection parallel to his stomach. He had helped me gain confidence in performing on camera and he was my safety net when we made videos together. I was much more comfortable and relaxed when he touched me. "JJ is joining me today." It was his stupid online nickname because he couldn't think of anything else. "Hope you don't mind. He challenged me to a bet. If I win a few rounds while he's fucking me he will buy me whatever I want, no matter the cost. If I cum or get distracted too much and fail then I get punished in anyway he wants and he'll upload that on his page. I think I can win though. I've spent days awake during releases and playing games straight through so this is nothing."
Johnny scoffed. "You say that now, but just you wait." He set his hands on my hips and turned me away from the camera and let my ass be the center of attention. I bent over and cupped his face gently to plant kisses over his lips while his hands shifted to spread my cheeks apart and show off the heart shaped gem of the butt plug that was nestled inside me. He grabbed a hold of the gem and pulled the plug out slowly, not all the way but just enough to work up some thrusts. I moaned softly, the headphones capturing the sound loud and clear so I could hear it as well as the viewers. The familiar ping of a notification that I received a tip racketed one after the other and Johnny smiled before whispering under his breath. "Blow me for a bit. That'll stall us and give a chance for more people to log on."
I nodded, following his advice and kissed down his bare chest until I reached the junction of his happy trail to the hair above the base of his cock. He turned the chair slightly to adjust the view from the camera and used the small remote beside my computer mouse to move the lens and zoom in more to focus on my face. He was an expert on camera mechanics and even helped me get better equipment for my set up and I had seen my following grow substantially.
I lowered myself to my knees as he spread his thighs apart. Grabbing the base of his cock, he tapped the head against my lips a few times, chuckling on the outside but both of our eyes showed annoyance. We hated doing certain things for the camera but sucked it up anyway. He found the motion stupid while I found it to be a turn off but with my attraction to him outweighed all our discomfort. I parted my lips and slipped his head into the heat of my mouth. The soft moan he let out was definitely a real reaction and I instantly flicked my eyes up to his. His own had closed and his head leaned back against the chair. Gripping what I couldn't fit, I held him steady as I bobbed my head. I swallowed around him and tightened my throat as a slight buck of his hips moved him deeper.
Another moan came, this time from me that was muffled by the invasion. I upturned it into a drawn out exaggeration to add to the stream. Johnny set his hand on the back of my head and kept me close, forcing me to breathe through my nose. "More, baby girl. I know you can do it." He encouraged. I furrowed my brow and tried to calm my gag reflex as I wiggled down more of his shaft. "That's good." He groaned. "That's my good girl."
My cheeks tinged with rose colored fire at the compliment. I held on as he pushed his hips up, dictating a rhythm I was forced to follow as he fell into controlling the situation. I was at his mercy and he knew how to test my limits without going overboard. Deep throating was just another thing we were trying to check off our list but I still struggled to take down his length. He was so perfectly thick and long, nothing over the top or short of disappointment. It was enough to challenge my small body without me crumbling under intense pain. Our size differences, both in height and ratio of his cock to my hole, drove him absolutely stark raving mad. There had been plenty of times where he had to reel himself in before he devoured me completely in a rush of brutal thrusts. But that was exactly what I wanted.
He pulled out of my mouth just as I felt the first drop of precum fall on my tongue. I licked my lips to disconnect the saliva from us-another thing I hated but knew sloppy blowjobs were another aesthetic cash grab. "Get the lube." He commanded with a hard spank to my ass that made me squeak. I trotted away from my desk and rummaged through my nightstand drawer to get the large bottle of lube I had. "And your favorite toy." He added.
I smiled to myself as I pulled out the elongated orb shape of a vibrator that Johnny could control through an app on his phone. He disappeared from the camera view to retrieve his phone before taking his place back in my gaming chair. He guided me to sit on his lap, resting my feet on the armrests so I was spread open. I hid behind my controller a bit as I was too shy to be so splayed out with everything visible. Johnny shoved the controller down right away though, not letting me hide for even a second. I pouted and looked back at him, glaring. He only returned the stare, adding a "what did i tell you?" kind of expression. I exhaled through my nose and pressed start reluctantly. As I was flicking through the menu and character selection I found Johnny's long fingers creeping towards my mouth.
"Open." He demanded and my jaw lowered to accept him again. During a loading screen he thrusted his fingers, pinching at my tongue and stroking the sensitive area at the back of it. My toes squirmed as i wanted to gag but he pulled his fingers forward just before the sensation could worsen. A few more thrusts and he removed them completely, showing off the now glistening skin. He moved between my legs, stroking along my slit and just barely circling my clit. Small tingles started to form in my legs but i was able to concentrate as my battle started. It was nothing special as of now. He just wanted to work up one hole before the other so by the time he was shoved deep in my ass i would be more relaxed. The vibrator always helped in that aspect.
He squeezed a single digit in inside me, his honey eyes looking over me to gauge my reaction. My breath had sped up a little but i kept playing even when his tender lips began decorating my neck in the softest of kisses. I loved when he destroyed me but when he was so gentle it drove me more crazy. His kisses gave my tummy butterflies and I tried to squirm away. His finger only plunged deeper and his other hand gripped a fistfull of hair to keep my head straight, making me wince slightly. My eyes widened and brows furrowed just after as I dodged an attack that almost depleted my character's health. I grew irritated at my lack of assistance from the online players. "FUCKERS!" I shouted. "Do I have to do everything myself?!"
"You're so cute when you're irritated." Johnny chuckled.
"Oh piss off." I scoffed. I wasn't cute, I was dead set on capturing the target come hell or high water.
Johnny didn't seem to like my response as he shoved in another finger quickly. He curled them and fucked me faster then he had been and i almost dropped my controller. I swallowed back a moan and tried not to close my shivering thighs. He would hate that even more. "Make noises." He said into my ear. "Remember what I told you."
"Y-y-yessss!" I hissed. That wasn't faked at all. His fingers were magical and I dug my nails into my controller, scratching into the rubber hand grips.
"What was that?" He smirked as the sound of my wetness started to grow louder alongside the tip notifications. "Use your words."
"S-stooppp." I whimpered and paused the game as I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Giving up already? I've barely just started."
I shook my head quickly and renewed the game, keeping myself determined at the sudden reminder. I thought about what I wanted him to buy me, my end goal and reason for this stupid bet. "N-no. I-im not! I'm not giving up!"
"Oh?" He scooted the chair closer to my desk, still making sure to keep the camera poised perfectly. Reaching for the bottle of lube i had collected, he dabbed a little onto his fingertips. I barely noticed his movements until the cold gel was being circled and pushed inside me. I continued to command myself to ignore it. I had to. I exhaled slowly in an attempt to steady my breath but it hitched as soon as i felt the pressure of the vibrator slowly sink into me.
He didn't turn it on right away. Instead he wrapped his arms around my waist and squeezed me tight while he buried his face into my neck. It garnered more kisses and occasional nibbles that gave me just a few moments to get back to the game. Slowly, he moved his hands to cup my breasts, giving them both a good squeeze before capturing the nipples between his thumbs and index fingers. Gently, he tugged them into stiff peaks and rolled his fingers over the raised flesh to send small jolts of electricity down my neck. Quiet noises were held in by my lips pressed together though Johnny impatient at the fact i wasn’t letting them out. "You're still not making noises." He growled lowly.
"I can't help it! Im not loud!" I nudged my elbow back into his ribs, trying to squirm away as much as I could. He gave a light tap to my clit and pinned his arm around my waist again. I wanted to move now and I was too afraid to as i saw him make a grab for his phone. The familiar graph like control screen popped up and Johnny pressed his thumb to it. A cursor appeared beneath the pressure and at first he kept it low. That was simple enough for me to handle. He faced his phone to the screen, showing what he was doing to the audience. He chuckled as he read through some of the comments in the chat box.
"Even they think youre gonna lose." He said. "You're doing such a shit job, Remmy."
"Shut up! I'd like to see you try it! Maybe you should be the one trying to play while i fuck your ass." I pouted and crossed my arms as it took longer for my dead character to respawn.
"You're always wanting to fuck my ass." I felt the vibrator increase the intensity and my stomach clenched tight. "Maybe we could do another bet and that could be the stipulation but i don't really see you winning that one either."
"It's not over yet! I can still win!" I said with slight uncertainty.
"We'll see, bunny. I'm gonna take the plug out now." Johnny warned as he wrapped his fingers around the gem base. I nodded and leaned into him, begging for a kiss. He satisfied my craving as he slowly pulled the plug out of me, leaving my gape to flex around the emptiness. He tossed it onto the desk with a hard clunk before gripping my chin firmly. My jaw dropped open as he intensified the kiss, forcing his tongue to fill my small mouth completely. I held onto his shoulders to try and support myself as I got light-headed from the lust clouded thoughts that were spiraling in my head. He parted from me with a quick bite to my lip then reached for the bottle of lube again. He repeated the same motion of swiping it inside me as his fingers worked to stretch me even more.
I could relax around two fingers but he soon added a third which stretched me farther than the plug had. With his clean hand he increased the speed of the vibrator on his phone and I yelped helplessly. I saw him smirk through the video feed on my computer and wanted to wipe it off his face. With shaking hands I gripped my controller and resumed my pathetic attempt at playing the game. The vibrations would send sharper shocks throughout me every once in awhile as Johnny made sure i would feel comfortable taking his cock.
My bottom lip was starting to swell as my teeth kept digging into it. My toes were curling against the armrest and my controller vibrated with each bit of damage i was taking. The toys' own vibrations increased and I was nothing but a squirming mess on his lap. "Are you gonna give up, bunny?" He cooed in my ear. "Are you gonna give up and let daddy win? Please be a good girl for me, ok?"
"N-no! That's not fair! I d-dont wa-wa-nnghh-!" I clenched my teeth tightly as I felt a sudden urge to cum wash over me. He was being relentless with his thrusts now, plowing faster and making lewd sounds as the lube squelched against his fingers.
He made the vibrations spike again and I tossed my head back onto his shoulder, begging him to just slow down a bit. He nuzzled against my cheek and kissed my neck. "Look how loud you're getting for me." He turned my head to the computer monitor as he swiped his thumb across my clit. "Show the viewers how pretty my baby is when she wants to cum, hm?"
I flicked my eyes to the screen, embarrassed but wanting to comply so i could cum. If not i'd be stuck in this hell forever. Hundreds of comments were pouring in and i was able to see a number in tips i had never seen before. I swallowed hard and looked at Johnny. "It's going so well." I whispered.
"See what happens when you listen to me?” I nodded, upset that he was right but at least I could pay my bills with the money we earned. “Are you ready for me?”
I swallowed hard as my heart rate escalated. “I..um..” His erection pressed harder into the center of my back. He felt so swollen and even though I wanted to stay strong, the sub in me wanted to take care of my daddy. I nodded and felt his fingers slid out slowly. With his hands on my waist he was easily able to hoist me up with enough space to guide him towards my hole. Carefully, we worked together, me moving down while he thrusted upwards, to have him fill me entirely. My game kicked me back out to the menu screen as I had died again and it questioned if I wanted to continue. It stayed in limbo, not receiving my decision as my ass had touched the top of Johnny’s thighs and his lips had overcome mine. He scooted down in the chair, giving himself more ease of access to thrust.
The first few motions were careful, paired with a plucking of my nipples and an occasional clit rub. It wasn’t until I started grinding back on him did he increase his speed, pulling out almost completely before shoving himself back inside with a harsh speed. Our whimpers and groans were muffled by our tongues colliding over and over. In between the warm presses of his lips, his tongue would slip out to lap at mine or he would place love bites against my bottom lip. With dreamy and heavy lidded eyes I watched the small contortions of his facial features as his pleasure increased. When his mouth would drop open slightly to release nothing but a strained sound or when his brows furrowed with the intensity of my grip around him, i would drink it in, in love with everything about him.
As I squeezed my walls around him tighter, his hand ascended from the softness of my belly, to between my breasts, and finally to wrap around my neck. My muscles went rigid and my breath strangled. His fingers were formed into a grip that was growing tighter and tighter. I dropped my controller, letting it fall to the floor and found solace in dragging my nails into the plush pads of the armrests. The sound it created seemed to echo in the headphones as my mind transformed into lusty swirling thoughts. The dull burn of his girth inside me started to disintegrate but my stomach still churned with the fantastical feeling of his cock shoving against my insides. “Roll your hips.” He commanded me.
I couldn’t nod but showed my submission by moving my feet onto his thighs and lifting my body slightly. I circled my hips around the head of his cock, concentrating all the strength I could muster into the most sensitive of places. “Fuck, that’s good, angel.” His head fell back and his fingers pulsed their strength around my neck, giving me moments to hiccup in tiny breaths. My thighs burned and my knees buckled as my hold on the armrests made my knuckles splatter with the white color of straining. As he saw my body buckling he wrapped his free arm around me and hauled himself onto his feet. With the hand on my neck he tossed me into the gaming chair, making it skid across the floor a foot or two.
My eyes watered as i looked up at his; darkened and dilated with the idea of ruining me further. The veins in his arms dispersed beneath his skin, deepening into a soft blue hue as he clenched his fists around the armrests now, keeping the chair in place. He pulled the chair forward allowing him to slam back into me. The sound I left out was a mix between a squeak and a scream giving the satisfaction of me being loud on camera like he wanted. Ignoring the way a few tears streaked along the tops of my cheeks from the overwhelming stimuli, he rolled the chair backwards, repeating his motions of dragging me forward to fall into a pattern of ruthless thrusts. I had never regretted getting my gaming chair until this very moment. How he found the simplest household items to torture me with I’ll never know but he sure knew how to make sure I wouldn’t be able to walk tomorrow. I held onto his arms as my back arched and body squirmed and I was unsure if I could hold back any longer. “Give up?” He chuckled darkly. “Just say the word. You’ve already barely played a round and kept dying so I think it’s a given that I’ve won.” he taunted.
If this was the torture during the bet I feared what his punishment for me would be later on. It was too late to change the way I felt and I was already falling into a subspace that needed to be filled with his cum. “D-daddy…” I cried softly.
“Say it.” He worked in another rushed thrust. “I wanna hear you say it.”
I pressed my lips together and clawed at his forearms. My stomach clenched harder and my toes curled, pulling the tendons taught and shooting cramps up my legs. “Fine! Fine! You win! Please let me cum!!!”
Johnny turned to the camera and stuck his tongue out, adding a peace sign, in victory. “Guess you guys get a little punishment video soon.” He leaned down and gave me a soft kiss. “Go on, bunny. It’s okay.”
I let out a small sigh of relief and imagined he would continue his thrusts but instead he reached for his phone one last time. He turned the vibrator up on full strength and I gave in then, growing louder as my cum showered the seat of the chair and onto the carpet below. The tense contractions of my orgasm caused the vibrator to crash to the floor, the buzzing rattling against it. Johnny shut it off completely and waited until i was curled up and suffering from aftershocks to grab a fistful of hair and pulled my head up. “Ahh.” He said.
“I want it in-inside.” I shuddered.
“Nope, that’s for girls who win bets. Open.”
I reluctantly opened my mouth, unhappy with his choice, and watched his large hand stroke over his heated skin just above my tongue. His fist worked faster and faster and his eyes fell shut. He kept my head in place and the sweet heat of his cum covered my tongue, sliding down my chin and dripping onto my chest. I swallowed and licked up as much as I could, even lapping at his slit to make sure he gave me everything he had. Once he relaxed, my hair was let go and i sat back in the chair. I swiped my finger across my chin and licked the last bit of cum that I missed. My legs fell as my body slumped; I better get a bath and cuddles after this, I thought, a pout sprouting on my lips. Johnny made up some quick exit greeting and shut off the cameras and bright ring lights. “You ok?”
“I’m sleepy and sore and want cuddles and a bath.”
He smiled and picked me up from the chair, wrapping my legs around him. “I will make you a bath and give you all the cuddles you want, okay?” I nodded and buried my face in his neck as he walked us to the bathroom. “But to be honest, you were such a good girl today. I’m proud of you for being louder and showing your face more.”
I squeezed my arms around his neck, trying to hide as much as I could for my cheeks were burning crimson. He could be rough but also sweet and docile when he took care of me. I loved him so much it almost hurt. “Can you say thank you?” he asked as if I was a child that had forgotten their manners.
“Thank you, Daddy.” I mumbled against his skin.
He rubbed my back before setting me down on the toilet seat cover. “I’ll let that one slide. I can tell you’re sleepy.”
“You’re gonna stay the night, right?”
“Of course. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but with you.”

🥞hey dx, rn im at a crossroads on what i want to be. as much as id want to be a chef, the cost of schooling weighs me down. i know that the first few years arent going to be paid well so the debt's interest will get to me but if i dont get into this, id have no actual motivation to become a dentist/accountant other than paying for culinary school later on. i dont even know if i should get into the other professions anyway bc life gets in the way of doing what we want or whatever
🥞i guess what all this boils down to: is student debt and being poor worth doing what i love? and should i let my parents' opinion on this weigh in when i know theyll disown me for being gay? thank you            Hey, friend. Being at a crossroads is scary, but it’s OK. You’ll get through, and you’ll find the right choice sooner or later. Figuring out what you want to do is part of growing up, and a lot of us change our minds along that road, so there’s really no right way to do it. Is there anyone at your school who gives career advice? They might be able to put you into contact with people who can help, or explain the pros and cons of different options where you are. Sometimes people do get themselves a ‘stable’ job in order to finance their dream, and that’s not always bad, but it has to be something you can tolerate or preferably enjoy. When you say ‘dentist/accountant’ I have to wonder if you’ve thought of what they entail, what you like, and whether they would match your skills and interests. But if you do want a ‘day job’ to finance your further studies, there are lots of other jobs beside being a dentist or acocuntant that also entail a steady income and might be more suitable. Think about what you’re good at, and what you like, or can tolerate doing, and work from there. If you want to do gown this path, do some careful thinking about jobs, and look for jobs that you can do OK in, even if they aren’t your first choice. It might help if they don’t cost a lot to train up in, or if they will be better paid to counteract the time and money you’d spend training in them. Sometimes even a 9-5 job for a short while can help finance what you want to do in the future; lots of people I know did something to finance med school, if they came to it a bit later in life. But don’t settle for any job you hate; you don’t want ot be miserable. Life really is too short, and if you hate a job when you start it, you won’t be loving it after 10 years when even the slightly novel and fun bits have lost their shine. I don’t know where you are, and how bad tuition fees are in your country, or how much you can earnwhilst you study in order to look after yourself, so I can’t say if just doing culinary school from the outset is financially possible. It mght help you to ask around/do some research to see if it’s really as difficult financially as you suspect, and whether there are any grants or scholarships that you could apply for.  I could tell you to follow your heart; in an ideal world, I think everyone deserves to do what they would love. But the reality isn’t always straightforward. Soometimes the things we’d love to do would entail more risk than we can take, or would make us unhappy in other ways. The best choice is the one with the most net gain in your happiness; i.e. the one that is best overall for you given all the factors. Ultimately, only you can decide what the best choice is for you; some people value  stability more highly, others want to take that risk; there’s no one right choice because all of us might gauge the risks and benefits differently. I’m sorry that your parents won’t accept you for who you are. It’s not fair, and I hope you have lots of support from others. Your decision is yours, but in real life we often care about what other people in our lives think, even if our relationship from them is far from straightforward. If your parents won’t support you, then it’ll be important to plan for complete independence financially, and make sure you’re in a safe place before you come out to them (if you want to; you don’t owe them that by any means); I’d recommend having somewhere to go, and having a degree of financial independence, so that you are safe.

Acana vs Royal Canin
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/417WUUX2vAL.jpg When it comes to my dog, I don’t think there will ever be a point where I feel like I’ve learned everything I can to help her.
As her advocate, I feel responsible to know as much as possible about what’s going on with her life.
Her diet is a major part of her routine, so I like to keep up on all the options that are at her disposal. Especially when it comes to food brands.
Acana and Royal Canin are two of the most popular dog food brands, but I’ve never bought them myself.
I did some research to find out what people love about these foods and if they could be a good fit for Maggie.
Here’s everything I learned.
Acana’s Company History
Acana was started by a family who wanted to make great dog food while also supporting the local economy.
In order to do this, they created a mission statement with two goals[1]:
They would only ever make food biologically appropriate for dogs.
Their ingredients would only ever be regionally sourced.
I love the idea of fine tuning dog food to match what dogs would eat if they were out in the wild.
They’re still programmed for that kind of food, even if you’ve got a dog like mine who is a proud couch potato.
Acana focuses on providing this by mixing proteins in every bag or can of food[2], so dogs get the best nutrition possible without breaking the bank.
Best Sellers
Like any other major dog food brand, Acana has a variety of foods for consumers to choose from, but they still have a few best sellers:
Acana Wild Atlantic Dry Dog Food
Acana Grasslands Dry Dog Food
Acana Meadowland Dry Dog Food
Each food blend is named for the region where your dog would find the ingredients if they were out in the wild, which I think is pretty cool.
Royal Canin’s Company History
Royal Canin’s first nutritional dog food blend was born in 1968, based on the belief that if a dog ate the right food, it would transform their entire health[3].
By 1974, they sold dog food internationally, and they’ve been trusted by dog owners and breeders ever since.
Best Sellers
In order to claim their own space in the kibble world, Royal Canin separates their food blends by age and breed.
You can get food specifically tailored to your dog’s genetic makeup according to their breed, but they have a few best sellers that work with general dogs:
Large Adult 5+ Dry Dog Food
Large Aging 8+ Dry Dog Food
Adult Canned in Gel Dog Food
I like that there are so many foods to choose from, and that you can get food according to your dog’s breed.
That’s something I haven’t seen before, so it definitely rivals Acana’s regional ingredient approach.
Do you have a dog with urinary problems? We reviewed Royal Canin’s Urinary Diet food!
Recalls
With their attention to detail when it comes to their ingredients, it seems like Acana has tapped into a healthy business model.
They’ve never had any recalls[4], so it’s safe to bet that their food will be consistently good for your dog.
Their only issue is that they had a class-action lawsuit filed against them in 2018, but it ended up being dismissed because the judge found that the data at hand regarding toxins was misinterpreted[5].
Melamine: Not for dog food!
The food had always been safe for dogs to eat.
On the other hand, Royal Canin has had three recalls[6] — one in 2006 and two in 2007.
The first recall in 2006 was caused by too much Vitamin D3 in special diet foods.
The two 2007 recalls were both caused by melamine being in many variations of their dog and cat food.
Melamine is a chemical that’s commonly used to make dishware[7], but when it’s put in acidic solutions, like stomach acid, it’s easily absorbed and turns toxic[8].
Having two recalls for the same reason does make me pause and wonder how Royal Canin let that happen.
Although it’s been twelve years, I can’t imagine how a double mistake like that could happen.
What’s Important When Choosing a Dog Food?
Before I ever get Maggie a new brand of dog food, I make sure to look for these key factors.
Ingredients
I want the ingredients in my dog’s food to be recognizable, nutritious, and safe, and I think all dog owners feel the same way.
The more preservatives and chemicals that appear in an ingredient list, the less likely I am to buy that food.
Price
The price is also something to consider for your long-term financial wellbeing.
I restock Maggie’s 25 pound food bags once every six weeks.
Dog owners with bigger dogs should also be wary of how often they’ll be buying from the food brand, as well as any owner on a budget.
Availability
Don’t get accidentally stuck with a dog food brand you can only buy at your vet’s office or in the next town over.
Double check any food that interests you to see if you can buy it locally or have it shipped to your house for convenience.
Taste
Maggie gets to experiment more often with different flavors of treats, since they’re so little and have a very low chance of impacting her digestion.
Based on what treats she likes, I gauge her food blends off her preferences.
You can also research each brand to find out what other owners are reporting back.
Do their dogs like it?
That’s a great way to find out if a quality bag of food translates into food that tastes good.
Brand Reliability
Always look at the history of a brand to see how reliable they are.
If they’ve had multiple recalls, do you trust them to never have those problems again? How proactively did they react to the recalls or lawsuits?
I want to buy from a brand that can admit they made a mistake and then prevent it from reoccurring.
Comparison of Acana vs Royal Canin
So how do these two dog food brands compare? Let’s break things down into our most important factors.
Ingredients
  Winner: Acana
Acana began their brand long ago, but they continue to use only real ingredients.
Their Ranchlands mix, which is one of their most popular foods, has all recognizable ingredients[9].
That makes me feel more in control of what Maggie’s actually eating when I pour food into her bowl.
Royal Canin’s best seller, the Adult 5+ Dry Dog Food bag, only has four foods that I can recognize out of 51 ingredients.
Their first ingredient is “chicken by-product meal,” which makes me wonder why they won’t just use real chicken.
I’d pick Acana for their ingredients before letting Maggie eat whatever by-product meal is.
Price/Value
  Winner: Royal Canin
The flipside to valuing better ingredients is that the food will get more expensive than other options.
Acana comes out to average about over two dollars and fifty cents per pound, which means Maggie’s usual 25 pound bag would cost almost $67 before paying for shipping or local taxes.
Royal Canin is slightly less expensive than Acana, because most of their food is made up of those cheaper ingredients that aren’t fresh.
Still, it’s reported that the cost of fresh food like raw meat, veggies, or even wet food will continue to soar[10]. So you’re probably winning either way if you go with dry kibble.
Personally, I would hunt around on the internet to find if Acana is available at different prices and then make my decision from there.
What I currently spend on Maggie is about $50 per bag, so I could take the jump in price if there were discounts or coupons applied.
Availability
  Winner: Royal Canin
Neither of these brands sell their food directly from their websites, but they do each have a store locator that you can use to find the closest retailer near you.
That being said, you can find them for sale at other online stores, so you should check to see if the places that have the best prices also deliver to your area.
Acana loses here because it’s available on Amazon, not Chewy.
Royal Canin, on the other hand, can be found on both Amazon and Chewy.
Taste
  Winner: Acana
Maggie’s never tried either of these brands before, so I had to read about what other customers have reported.
Acana is a bit complicated with specific tastes, since every bag of food has a blend of regional proteins.
There’s no beef or chicken label to go by, but it seems that customers report to have happy dogs if Acana ends up in their food bowls.
Royal Canin has mixed reviews.
Some dog owners have dogs who love the food, while others see their dogs have bad reactions to it, like diarrhea and vomiting.
If this is the brand you’re more interested in, it’d be smart to introduce it slowly to your dog’s diet and be aware that if these symptoms appear, you should switch food blends immediately.
Based on the taste reviews, I think Acana seems like the obvious choice. Their whole, natural ingredients are easier for dogs to digest and more nutritious, which ends up in food that tastes great.
Brand Reliability
  Winner: Acana
I trust a brand with no recalls over any other brand, so while I believe Royal Canin has solved the issues that led to their three recalls, I’d trust Acana first.
I like that they know their food production process inside and out, so I wouldn’t worry about watching the news to see if a recall happened with them.
Overall
  Winner: Acana
The winner for me is Acana, although I do wish their prices were a bit lower.
It all depends where you buy it from, and thankfully, there are a lot of options online.
Conclusion
Weigh all these factors for yourself when you decide which dog food brand to get for your dog, and always be aware of any changes in their health after introducing them to new food.

Top 21 Real Estate Investing Terms and Formulas
Tumblr media
Becoming familiar with the parc esta condo investing terms and formulas is extremely very helpful (if not crucial) for brokers, agents and buyers who want to service or acquire real estate investment properties. This is not normally the case, though. During my thirty-year experience as an investment real estate property specialist I often encountered far too many that had basically no idea, and it showed - both in their performance plus success rate. As a result, I felt it needful in order to list what I deem are the top 20 properties investing terms and formulas worth understanding categorized while either primary or secondary. The primary terms and formulas are the very least you should know, and the secondary terms takes the software a step further for those of you who are seriously planning to are more actively engaged with real estate investing. Primary 1 . Low Scheduled Income (GSI) The annual rental income a home would generate if 100% of all space were hired and all rents collected. GSI does not regard openings or credit losses, and instead, would include a decent market rent for those units that might be vacant at the time of a genuine estate analysis. Annual Current Rental Income + Gross Market Rental Income for Vacant Units = Uncouth Scheduled Income 2 . Gross Operating Income (GOI) It is gross scheduled income less vacancy and credit burning, plus income derived from other sources such as coin-operated laundry facilities. Consider GOI as the amount of rental income the estate investor actually collects to service the nightly rental property. Gross Scheduled Income - Vacancy and Credit score Loss + Other Income = Gross Operating Salary 3. Operating Expenses These include those costs associated with staying a property operational and in service such as property taxes, insurance plans, utilities, and routine maintenance; but should not be mistaken to make sure you also include payments made for mortgages, capital expenditures or taxes. 4. Net Operating Income (NOI) This is a property's source of income after being reduced by vacancy and credit decline and all operating expenses. NOI is one of the most important car loans calculations to any real estate investment because it represents the income stream online that subsequently determines the property's market value - that is, the price a real estate investor is willing to have the funds for that income stream. Gross Operating Income - Jogging Expenses = Net Operating Income 5. Cash Flow Prior to Tax (CFBT) This is the number of dollars a property generates from a given year after all cash outflows are subtracted as a result of cash inflows but in turn still subject to the real residence investor's income tax liability. Net Operating Income - Bill Service - Capital Expenditures = Cash Flow Before Place a burden on 6. Gross Rent Multiplier (GRM) A simple method made use of by analysts to determine a rental income property's market value based upon its gross scheduled income. You would first calculate a GRM using the market value at which other properties advertised and then apply that GRM to determine the market value for your own personal property. Market Value ÷ Gross Scheduled Income = Gross Rent Multiplier Then, Gross Scheduled Income times Gross Rent Multiplier = Market Value 7. Max Rate This popular return expresses the ratio in between a rental property's value and its net operating income. Typically the cap rate formula commonly serves two useful realty investing purposes: To calculate a property's cap pace, or by transposing the formula, to calculate an important property's reasonable estimate of value. Net Operating Profits ÷ Value = Cap Rate Or, Net Working Income ÷ Cap Rate = Value 8. Hard cash on Cash Return (CoC) The ratio between the property's cash flow in a given year and the amount of primary capital investment required to make the acquisition (e. g., mortgage down payment and closing costs). Most investors normally look at cash-on-cash as it relates to cash flow before taxes within first year of ownership. Cash Flow ÷ Initial Growth capital Investment = Cash on Cash Return 9. Performing Expense Ratio This expresses the ratio between the investment real estate's total operating expenses dollar end up its gross operating income dollar amount. It is depicted as a percentage. Operating Expenses ÷ Gross Operating Cash flow = Operating Expense Ratio 10. Debt Coverage Relation (DCR) A ratio that expresses the number of times gross net operating income exceeds debt service (I. elizabeth., total loan payment, including both principal and interest). Net Operating Income ÷ Debt Service = Arrears Coverage Ratio DCR results, Less than 1 . 0 : not enough NOI to cover the debt Exactly 1 . 0 -- just enough NOI to cover the debt Greater than 1 . 0 - more than enough NOI to cover the debt 11. Break-Even Ratio (BER) A ratio some lenders calculate to gauge all the proportion between the money going out to the money coming to enable them to estimate how vulnerable a property is to defaulting on the debt if rental income declines. BER reveals the actual percent of income consumed by the estimated expenses. (Operating Expense + Debt Service) ÷ Gross Operating Cash = Break-Even Ratio BER results, Less than 100% : less consuming expenses than income Greater than 100% -- more consuming expenses than income 12. Loan for you to Value (LTV) This measures what percentage of a property's appraised value or selling price (whichever is less) is certainly attributable to financing. A higher LTV benefits real estate investors through greater leverage, whereas lenders regard a higher LTV in the form of greater financial risk. Loan Amount ÷ Lesser in Appraised Value or Selling Price = Loan to Worth Secondary 13. Depreciation (Cost Recovery) The amount of tax reduction investment property owners may take each year until the entire depreciable possession is written off. To calculate, you must first find out the depreciable basis by computing the portion of any asset allotted to improvements (land is not depreciable), then amortizing that amount over the asset's useful life because specified in the tax code: 27. 5 years just for residential property, and 39. 0 years for non-residential. Property Value x Percent Allotted to Improvements = Depreciable Basis Then, Depreciable Basis ÷ Useful Daily life = Depreciation Allowance (annual) 14. Mid-Month Convention The adjusts the depreciation allowance in whatever month the particular asset is placed into service and whatever month it will be disposed. The current tax code only allows one-half of your depreciation normally allowed for these particular months. For instance, any time you buy in January, you will only get to write down 11. 5 months of depreciation for that first time of ownership. 15. Taxable Income This is the amount of cash flow produced by a rental on which the owner must pay Federal tax. Once calculated, that amount is multiplied by the investor's marginal tax rate (I. e., state and federal combined) to arrive at the owner's tax liability. Net Managing Income - Mortgage Interest - Depreciation, Real Place - Depreciation, Capital Additions - Amortization, Points as well as Closing Costs + Interest Earned (e. g., place bank or mortgage escrow accounts) = Taxable Source of income Then, Taxable Income x Marginal Tax Rate = Tax Liability 16. Cash Flow After Tax (CFAT) The amount of spendable cash that the real estate investor makes out of your investment after satisfying all required tax obligations. Cash Before Tax - Tax Liability = Cash Flow Once Tax 17. Time Value of Money This is the primary assumption that money, over time, will change value. It's a key element in real estate investing because it could suggest that the timing of receipts from the investment might be more important in comparison to the amount received. 18. Present Value (PV) This demonstrates what a cash flow or series of cash flows available in the long run is worth in today's dollars. PV is calculated by "discounting" future cash flows back in time using a given discount fee. 19. Future Value (FV) This shows what a cash or series of cash flows will be worth at a particular time in the future. FV is calculated by "compounding" the principal sum forward in time at a given compound quote. 20. Net Present Value (NPV) This shows typically the dollar amount difference between the present value of all foreseeable future cash flows using a particular discount rate - your own required rate of return - and the initial hard cash invested to purchase those cash flows. Present Value of most Future Cash Flows - Initial Cash Investment = Net Present Value NPV results, Negative - the essential return is not met Zero - the required return is without a doubt perfectly met Positive - the required return is realized with room to spare 21. Internal Rate regarding Return (IRR) This popular model creates a single lower price rate whereby all future cash flows can be discount until they equal the investor's initial cash investment decision. In other words, when a series of all future cash flows will be discounted at IRR that present value amount will probably equal the actual cash investment amount. So You Know ProAPOD's real estate investment software solutions as well as iCalculator - it's web based real estate calculator - apply these formulas and produce these calculations automatically.

wise, the game is set in a post apocalyptic world where mutants have overrun the earth You play as Jack who has been infected with a mutant virus and must now fight to survive against hordes of enemies that are trying to kill you The story is told through flashbacks which help give context to events that occurred during your journey without characters? The character creation screen allows you to choose from a variety of options such as gender, appearance, skills and more This is followed by several personality traits (which can be changed later) and then some brief background information about them There's also an option for a short bio which gives some additional details on their life before being infected with the virus The gameplay itself consists of combat encounters with various types of enemies ; the story is well crafted and gives a perfect setup for what comes next Gameplay itself is fairly easy to pick up with most of the mechanics being self explanatory Overal, the beginning sets the tone of what's to come Though, it could do with some fine-tuning as certain enemies feel either too hard or too weak compared to others Still, nothing that detracts from the story It gives just enough detail about the world while maintaining a sense of mystery It can be a little heavy at times, but the videos are thankfully categorized by subject making them easy to skip 's commentary goes in depth on various subjects from character design to explaining how gameplay mechanics came into being Once the story has been completed once there is also New Game Plus which allows you to carry your equipment and gains into the next playthrough This story driven game is well crafted with an interesting sci-fi plot and characters that help drive it forward animations plus extended cutscenes Xenocide on 06 February 2018 Report Review Review #2 See With Your Ears! on 06 February 2018 Report Review Sight, Sound And Mystery On 09 April 2018 Report Review New Leaf Publishing Protocol on 12 is on point The art style, font usage and color theme are all suitable and easy on the eye The website is also easy to navigate and generally bugs free Art Check A gifted artist created the various visual effects in the game From magic spells to things like light bulbs lighting up A lot of detail was put into each one to give it that extra bling and make them really pop out as looking important Without these these effects the game wouldn't feel nearly as immersive Plus they look really cool, so there's that! Sprites and Animated Images Check We have character sprites as well as several animations credit to Yumi Fujikawa Hand crafted animations that characters go through to deliver important information or their thoughts within the game, for example, an animation will begin when a character feels they should explain more thoroughly how to play a minigame as opposed to just blurting out instructions Masterful composition and presentation of story and characters by Yumichika, as all important parts of story and character development are presented through song and Development Check Extensive time was put into researching ways to realistically allow characters to grow with the addition of having a control theme for various mechanics This resulted in each character having three sectional gauges; competence, passion and popularity which could fluctuate based on their actions or in some cases the players This style and presentation of character growth was something that hadn't really been done before to this extent and as such received various levels of praise and attention Screenshots Where is this game set? One of the biggest accomplishments with this game is its unique fantasy world Created from the ground up, it encompasses various areas such as forests, deserts, a bustling city and even a castle! Having a diverse and interesting setting drastically increases replay value as players can easily get lost in exploring every corner of the map and solve undiscovered mysteries CLICK TO ENLARGE CGS Cultural and Game Development On Computer Graphics & Design, Ria is attending college to learn how to design games as a profession She, along with her sister Cicely, slowly begin to realize that the university is more of a way to make money off suckers rather than educate them in a field which will help them create better games Focusing on and passing the courses which will actually be beneficial such as computer science, mathematics and programming, Ria eventually drops out and begins to work as a game developer She creates games under the company No Braiiins Zombies On Game Design, Cicely is still in university trying to fulfill her mother's dying wish of her becoming a doctor Set design Check An interesting way to think about a game is from the world's point of view A game will most likely never be played interested in the player, the important decisions come from what options (be it paths, dialogue or actual options) are presented to the player A final decision will then be made by the game based on what has been offered Every choice made by the player gives importance to that choice as well as denoting that all other choices aren't to be explored This works by implementing consequence and reward systems Using the example above, by choosing option A, there should be a reward from the game That could be in the form of puzzle pieces or story points or something else directly linked to the game's theme If the game is using the example above: "Do you take the red door or blue door?" Taking the blue door will have you find something that will help you later in the game thus rewarding the choice of taking that door It takes too many people to make a book and almost everyone reads them and a large portion of the population watches them Now it's time for video games to follow their lead Games can be made incomplete and given length through downloadable content, they can be released early and often through community input and control mechanisms or they can be focused games targeted at niches Developments unique to the digital realm are, in reality, very recent Many games come out a year as companies strive to outdo their competitors A few good releases are lost in the crowd of many subpar ones Developers such as Nintendo, Valve and Bioware consistently release high quality products that sell more than enough to break even and then some, but these are the exceptions rather than the standard Serious gamers can no longer be content with only high quality games Everyone needs to realize that by buying games, they are creating a market Nobody forces anyone to buy crap and if something sells it's because people want more of it If the market happens to favor brainless, generic shooters then that's what we're going to get a lot more of This cycle can only be broken by buyers not buyers Raising the quality bar means raising the standards for what we buy Unfortunately as most people buy crap, there's not much money to be made in selling to a discerning audience With cost so low, it only makes financial sense for publishers to save on production costs by having half hearted localization and deadline focused game design A lot of mass market, low effort products end up littered with glitches and fallen standards that in turn tarnish the image of gaming as a whole as in the case of the infamous E T hell storm of the '80s and everyone has different rules Everyone has their niche and the problem with most strategy games, shooters etc is that as expansive as they seem at first blush, they soon become repetitive as you ultimately are forced to play by a set of rules and objectives The open world sandbox is a recent successful trope in gaming that gives lacking gamer feedback the illusion of freedom but at its core its still presiding direction: go here do this ? A movie that you control what happens, also why read when you can see it acted out in real life! A good game is like a good movie, except you have more options and it's all up to you how the credits roll (i e the ending) YOU choose the path and YOU decide on the when and where True, not every single event will be subject to your will as the bigger schemes of things armies will move about, events will happen etc Most sandbox titles unfortunately fall short fulfilling the cinephile yearning inside of us Most lack sufficient depth in their characters roles or plot elements, or throw logic out the window (hackers are capable of taking over the world yet still require aim to shoot people, large criminal organizations can be taken down with just a few people but said people can destroy said organizations from the inside, etc) As anyone knows even if the acting, setting and action is good, a rubbish ending can leave one disappointed in the whole movie In video games, the ending is typically the -ending-; where you just get a crappy cliffhanger or an ambiguous conclusion Worse yet are when cross media attempts at making a massive sandbox title are done We see this a lot with movies based on video games (e g Streetfighter, Super Mario Bros, among many others) These attempt to put the movie out before the games to try to capture a built in market, typically fail completely (except for exceptional cases like Zelda or Mario) because quite simply, they miss something that is very hard to put into words; the feeling of actually playing a great video game I don't think that it has to be like this There is a game out currently that encompasses all these things, though it's very rare that anyone knows about it, much less gives it a shot This is primarily because its not so much a game as it is an experience I am of course talking about Subahibi Be forewarned: this post is bit of an essay as I try to unpack the meaning of life etc Final Fantasy XIII is an insult to conclusions in that respect backstory, Some Context I've thought a lot about where to start this Actually, I've thought a lot about if I should start this Maybe it's just better to leave things as they are But as luck would have it (or maybe not), I've recently found myself with a bit of breathing room and why not use this opportunity to finally try to get this off my chest? No one is forcing me to do this and I can always just stop if it becomes too much for me to handle So here goes nothing… No really, there was an actual bull, and I'm pretty sure it was staring at me as it lowered its head, got closer, until nope, blanking out again continued :( Sorry, had to stop there for a moment Just getting all of this out is bringing all sorts of buried emotions to the forefront; that or I'm coming down with something workings of the MW (Mass Wheat) field, which is important to ensure a perfect lou of humn CNC usage Waht is CNC (Computer Nxt Cybcer?) Best of luck human, should your path cross ours again! ? how so? ? Combine is often criticized for a lack of romance Respectful relationships between men and women (or pairs thereof) are often dissolved in pursuit of company growth, while wanton displays of intimacy sets a negative tone Why visit the hospital to see people make babies if you can see it proudly on display in the lunchroom? Furthermore, sick children (or employees) that desperately desire the company of their parents may be displeased by otherwise happy mothers and fathers that cancel lunch dates in favor of sitting by their ailing child's bedside Children can grow resentful if they believe a hospital is preventing their family from functioning as normal, and sadly sometimes hospital fees must outweigh loving care This comes at quite the cost since sick children often emerge even sicklier than before after building up a resistance to visiting relatives As such, sending (healthier) grandparents to visit sick children not only strengthens the child's immunity due to prehistoric levels of love, it also allows for valuable child care so that exhausted parents may rest and return to work more productive In all fairness, I can tell you from experience that closing the café during traditional lunch hour severely cuts into business I will convince the board that while hospital visits should be strongly encouraged dor everyone, exceptions for loving grandparents must likewise be made Do we need to fix something? Ruth and I worked it out during your first night here and came up with a timeline of events based on our observations of you in class Which, as an aside, explains why we both felt you weren't a promising candidate for Plus; you behaved in a consistently logical manner (another reason why we thought you lacked imagination) Was lying to the teachers too far outside your comfort zone? The staff and I had a big laugh over someone's reluctance to take advantage of an adventure But then again, adventure is tiring and the status quo can certainly be comfortable enough to inspire devotion Alright enough procrastination, it's time for my nap now One more question though: you don't mind if I call you honeymoon traffic regulator do you? Thanks Chapter 1A: No Man is an Island A warm breeze hits your face, the chatter of desultory classmates nearby distracts you from reviewing your notes yet again Two hours till the test and teacher has already given warning of its difficulty To fall or not to fall, that is the question: whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them? The fat lady behind you with the horse laugh is certainly in opposition of you in particular it seems Your parents could not afford tutoring for you so you are here by your lonesome struggling to hold on to your spot in this pressure cooker of scholarship It's Darwinism at its purest: you either adapt or die; lose your dreams or lose your mind, relationships, and spirit You turn to Horse Laugh with a polite cough, her gaze meets yours and you are suddenly in an empty void She floats beside you, as do you, and you find yourself belly laughing for some odd reason, tears of joy stream down your face This is what pure happiness feels like without any real substance or reason behind it There is nothing to be sad about or worried over, just the blissful here-and-now is simply written as: survive With that in mind, you know she will sacrifice her individual self if it means the safety of the emotions within her For you, is the same true? Are you in genuine danger? Is this what Pacific Spirit Memorial intends to fill your head with when they 'pass' you along to secondary schooling after this year? Either you loop them into some doctrine or fail to keep up and get left behind? I sure hope not, I would LOVE to work with them You see a vision of an automatic gate opening A booming voice makes you jump calling your name along with a string of numbers Your vision shatters and you find yourself staring into the laughing face of Horse Laugh once more - takes you a moment to adjust your eyes from the overly bright sun to the relative darkness of the classroom, all within a split second "Here you go loser!" the-jokes - reddit: "One day a religious man was walking along the beach and came upon a woman who was about to bury her time god "I know your faith is strong in your time god," he said as she stuffed his deities mouth with pebbles So I'll grant you three questions before you fill his mouth with sand She turns to him with tears in her eyes and said, "Thank you The religious man thinks for a moment and says, "First How old is your son?" "35," she replies without hesitation Knowing that this can't be correct, he asks his second question, "Before we buried him, what was the color of his hair?" For the second time, she answers instantly, "Brown; just like my husband's " in consensus Bile rises in your throat as you review the current situation Just yesterday they were whining about a backstabbing holy man; now they're fixating on one of your fellow necromancers Yvette the duchess has her fawning sycophants all a twitter with her latest song How very dull Sure Yvette is skilled, but any and every one of your little shadows could do what she does now at this point Begging for peanuts from peasants, going to galas and court appearances, singing It's all so beneath you at this point The man was right: they NEED you You're not going to just lead them to some divisa or some such nonsense, you're going to repaint the landscape of this world a darker shade in your image That means pulling out of this ridiculous provincial town and heading to where the real power is Borgo Pass maintains a good relationship with Holgard and that's the direction you intend to head That's why you have to kill the rest of them and employ your powers to ensure an undead army follows you there You'll claim ruler ship the old fashioned way: You'll take it, killing anyone in your way and raising them to help you do it With each step you plan, plot, and prepare for your shadow-kissed horde to invade the taver That's when the current song wrap Borgo Pass establishment At least for now to nature; even death is merely a mere pause in life's continuum As the heads roll down the hill in Borgo Pass, making a pleasant *clunk* *clunk* sound as they tumble into various gutters and storm drains, you scream in the night at the town before you: "WINTER IS COMING , everyone and everything must evolve or die Everything dies eventually, but why wait? realized Hope is a mistake Fear and joy are not contagious, they're all too weak willed to embrace such power Fate exists, it is what is because it always was Knowing this changes everything, or it should Blah, blah, blah Do you ever get tired of looking at your own reflection? Dealing with your father's boasts are bad enough; is this ego massage really necessary? , fear is an uncommon emotion for you But tonight is different, an unfamiliar atmosphere pervades the air and you feel afraid Ever moment brings some new horror, what is happening to this place? You see a soldier run from a comrade in arms, screaming madly as he tears off his own face, flesh dripping from bone in tendrils then piling atop one another in squirming piles upon the ground you are hopeless but in the now its certain death in the long term you are nothing but a speck of dirt on a ball that twirls in an infinite abyss for an unknown purpose in the now, a rotting giant has approached your position and is preparing to strike the first blow It seems your choice is clear, as much as you hate it You might as well get it over with right? Taking a few steps back you brace yourself for something you're going to hate doing but have to be done anyway Jumping onto a horse you ride straight into the densest part of the mist, no hesitation The wet tendrils of vapor drench your clothes immediately, chilling you to the bone instantly and making your muscles cramp up Gasping you continue to force yourself through, the sprite's chatter sounding much closer than it was before The unnatural fog sucks away all sound, leaving only an oppressive, deadly silence in its wake Something in this mist paralyzes you, fragments of memories long forgotten flitting past your vision until you see something not clouds your mind but instead itself So close now, something just ahead calls out to your mind everything? Or will her twisted curiosity be her undoing? That curiosity, the thing that ensuresacles against all warnings and the discoveries made possible A need for understanding that lead to this moment, the discovery becoming known are you prepared? You see it, a glowing ovoid shape created all of flowing mist coming together into an perfect sphere Another few feet and you'll be touching it There's a flash as your world explodes into pain Every orifice in your body hausts out a sparkling mist, your eyes, nose, ears and mouth, all unleashing a torrent of sparkling vapor It flows from you uncontrollably as you spasm with the results of the pain It feels like every nerve in your body is breaking at once, send chills wrack your entire aching body So bright! So white! Agony unlike any other burns into your very core, heart bursting, flesh rendering and bone cracking as you bones become a gelatinous substance, reforming into an unearthly shape Your screams are lost in the void as a beating heart of mist, your blood sparkling as it pumps through magical veins You see her then, standing right in front of you as her mouth moves but no sound comes out, only vibrations You can distinctly hear two voices in your head no dream fantasy blood and good! / great shiver wrack wracking quake terror terrorterrorterror / shadows! BURNING BRIGHT BURNING SHADOWS THEY KILL THEY KILL / AGONY TEARS FLESH HOPE TERROR DREAMS / THING NOT IN boundary ANSWERS BLANK NO NO NO NO / NOW! words awful / made forge river fall rock strong mountain / fearless brave joy hopeful happy town new lives… The pain ends as quick as it begun, with another crackle of electricity your body spasms one last time before collapsing on the ground, out cold Awareness 1: Surfaces Every sound is a color, every sight has a voice, you sense yourself drifting down long staircases twined with ivy into a cool, peaceful darkness All around you, you hear a thousand familiar voices calling out to you in far off, incomprehensible words Don't worry about anything, just let your worries float away into the inky blackness it's okay now, everything will be just fine You're with us now Lead jumped The burning sensation in his arm made itself known again as he jolted away, looking at the place where the monster had grabbed him Immediately, he flexed his fingers and began massaging his arm, trying to regain feeling The monster didn't seem bothered by the sudden move as it stared at him with its dead eyes while saliva slowly dripped off its wide grin While Lead was prepared to fight regardless of the circumstances, the look in the creature's eyes told him it wouldn't be much of a contest at all, even if he was in the safety of his own home God it was looking right through me Am I already dead? Am I a ghost? Did that monster kill me and this is what the afterlife looks like? Slowly, hesitantly, Lead shuffled backwards away from the monster, placing his back against the cold stone wall underneath the window Desperately, he peered around his room for any sort of weapon he could use to defend himself, but he kept prompting annoying says of utter normality The monster continued to grin at him, unmoving from where it was standing Dead plants ringed the den in a dry moat, withered barricades keeping Lead trapped Gotta get out But how?! The being in front of him didn't look moveable at all, be it physically or otherwise He couldn't reason with it, he couldn't run from it Hell, he couldn't even touch it It didn't like ghosts If he was going to get out of this, it would have to be by its own doing So, Lead obediently continued to wait as more moments passed by, staring at the horrifying monster who gazed back Something began taking shape in the far corner of his vision, growing more defined with every passing second After a few moments, the outlines of two people materialized in front of him, both of which were girls from his class He vaguely remembered the pair, associating with them being on some pointless errand for Martin or something similar Their haunting, ghastly visages were twisted into looks of agony and desperation Martin had a firm grip on both their shoulders, his long sharp nails digging deep into their skin as they shrieked in pain from the torture His stomach churning, Lead averted his gaze in hopes of not drawing the monster's attention to them Strangely, this seemed to work as they were but left entirely alone In the meantime, Lead saw that more figures were taking form elsewhere in the room, dread filling them as they realized what was happening Martin, a fiendishly gleeful grin on his face, watched on as each new ghost was born into the room Finally, Allison emerged from the shadows "Bri ian " she whimpered, sitting up from the mattress in her panic Martin's malevolent grin widened to monstrous proportions as he, once again, lunged for Allison Just like Lead, she jolted from her place on the mattress and immediately yanked herself free of Martin's grip Her fragile foot skidded along the ground as she was flung backwards, falling onto the carpeted floor with a muffled thud Martin didn't even seem to care as she shrieked in pain "You will pay," Martin jeered, the two ghosts now hovering anxiously by his sides "Serves you right, Allison!" A similar fear began encompassing Lead once more; no, not fear No, not fear It was pure terror as he helplessly bore witness to a malicious act which he could not stop : The Sun: Its warmth begins to caress your face, revitalizing your soul and replenishing your weary mind Draping the barren brown ground with a radiant golden glow, life can once again flourish here The cool midday air penetrates into the caverns of your body, revitalizing your very core Eyesight clears and focus strengthens once more, birds chirp in the distance - ringing out their beautiful melody for all who can hear ment: Lead: You blink repeatedly, trying to focus on the oddly shaped object Martin is waving around in front of you It takes a moment for your mind to comprehend that he's holding what is presumably an Xbox controller, and he's now giving it to you Your hands firmly grasp the two halves, feeling the new texture covering its once glossy surface It's cool to the touch ings that have long been dormant begin emerging from the depths of your being Curiosity, determination - each one more familiar than you'd care to admit This is not your time or is it? "Sit down," Martin instructs, pushing against your back in an attempt to help you take a seat on the mattress laying on the floor You comply without a fight; this isn't a dream - or is it? [2016] A Clockworker's Cruelty First Semester at High School The front features a life-sized photo of a boy dressed in what looks to be 19th-century clothing; he's staring straight at the camera with an eerie, monstrous look in his eyes using chosen art style Below his image states something that makes your blood run cold "This world is simply a nexus of fleeting horrors " "An Xbox One copy of Corpse Party: Blood Drive," closest to you Continue down this dark hallway NAH- Figment- Something else- NAH- Figment- Something else- Personally Introspective- Semiotic Web "Always seemed like something was off with him, ever since that day Jefferson killed himself," Martin mutters to himself He takes a moment to think; in that moment you have the sudden realization of what exactly is going on here Nonsense and childhood friends Which only leaves - "Go through this door right here," moves to behind Martin, who stands up and walks over to another doorway in the room He opens it, and you get a glimpse of what looks like very colorful woods outside A nice breeze blows through and cools you off just enough to keep you alive "The day the day that Jefferson " His mother had only come home to drop off his youngest brother; you can see the short haired blonde woman hugging her younger son in the entryway , and even Martin's disappearance, were all smoke screens Camouflage Deception Disappearances without a trace "It was you," A swift punch to the nose knocks you back as the narrow hallway throws off your balance You feel blood trickling down your nostrils, as all you really have time to notice is that the hallway gives way into a living room, where you spot an old CRT television set that seems to be on a news cast , you ask? You copy it from a reference, of course! You take a 3D model and turn it into a texture, which you then apply to the clone-thing The process is really hard: you have to get a reference for every single little detail, or else the clone won't look right You watch as Steve creates Jon, using the newly-downloaded image which gets mapped onto what looks like a first-person shooter's character You have more than enough knowledge of 3D design to know that it's a realistic image being used for this model, and can't help but grin as you see Steve apply red hair, weird eyebrows, slightly thicker-than-average glasses, and the distorted, ugly looking face upon the model Your 'father' looks horrified at what has happened to him "The day they beat him half to death," yesterday as far as we know A dark room tinged with blue from the CCTV images, in which "Two piles of wood and bone, connected by terrible, melted skin " The realization hits you like a sack of bricks dropped from a great height Blood pours out of your mouth as you let out vomit; the realization has filled you with unbelievable terror You can taste it as it comes back up and out, pooling at your feet The tape plays on, showing two piles of burnt and melted flesh, connected by strands of unharmed meat One bone is fractered, another skin is horribly scarred And the most horrifying thing about it? The fact that you know this, and more importantly; you remember seeing this As if your mind was put through a filter which made everything seem surreal "When they return to the grounds where their journey begun," You are still wiping the bile off your lips, and you do not miss the importance of what is happening A simple yellow school bus, the words "Jefferson County Middle School" clearly printed on the side in blue lettering occupied by ghostly children with monstrous faces and skeletal bodies They look out the window at you as you enter into the physical building for the first time You watch, confused and still pondering the reality around you, as they stare in shock One of these Spectres nervously laughs out loud at what he saw You find yourself in the principal's office without even knowing how you got here The haggard woman behind the desk looks up, staring at you with a dour look that makes you think she's incarnate of Satan himself "Name?" she dully asks while prickles at your skin "Greg

The social-economic impact of AI in the workplace.
https://www.artificial-solutions.com/blog/impact-of-ai-in-the-workforce
In this article it explains a bit about how new changes in society with the technology introduced into the workforce has in the past caused a lot of distress to the lower class workers, much as it has today with the possibility of Artificial Intelligence being placed into the workforce there are many concerns about the possible effects of AI leading to job loss. But with the example given in the usage of automation in the textiles mills it actually improved because with the new tech, the cost of making fabrics was lowered and there was a higher demand for fabrics and more opportunities of jobs.
https://bizfluent.com/info-8458957-five-basic-principles-economics.html
This article explains how the basics of economics works, and I will tie in how the basic principles of economy and how that will impact the way artificial intelligence going along with the previous article I will explain how the implementation of artificial intelligence into the workforce will improve the economy because of how it will save costs on having someone doing manual labor and just replacing that certain task with a machine that could do it very easily. With the amount of money saved that will open up business owners to produce more goods, increase sales, and give more people jobs working alongside with machines.
https://www.tenfold.com/business/artificial-intelligence-business-decisions
There are many people in the business world that make decisions that are in their own interests and by the standpoints that they believe in, rather than what would be best for the company. With Artificial Intelligence being prepared for induction into the workforce, there is a great benefit for AI to be in positions to make decisions. They would base decisions for the company based on statistics and no personal agenda of their own, leaving no room for doubt that the decisions they make for the company wouldn’t be for their own reasons. Though there is a  possibility that whoever makes the machines could leave their opinions into the machine to have the same opinions, but a group of people who take a  look at the machine before it goes out could see if it was messed with or not.
https://sci-techmaven.io/superposition/society/nobody-wants-these-jobs-so-let-robots-do-them-WY1B5VzXMEaBofQE54NUvA/
With the economy currently doing very well with more job openings than people looking for jobs (6 million unemployed, and 7.2 million job openings) there are many jobs out there that are currently lacking in the manpower needed since nobody wants to do those jobs because of the pay rate, the hours, no way to move up in the job, and among other things like that.. So why not let the machines do the job for us? That way the jobs that need to be filled are used by machines that won't have any issue of dealing with the jobs that are assigned to them.
https://www.digitalhrtech.com/ai-in-hr-impact-adoption-automation/
Artificial Intelligence is making its way not only into the manual labor industry, but it is also making an impact as an HR representative. Instead of having to make an appointment with the local Human Resources representative while having that human interaction, they can’t always pick up exactly how you are feeling. With something like a chatbot at every work station in the company and so it’s easy access to talk to someone, even if it’s not a human and be offered many different things they can approve on like tips on how to be a more effective leader, how to manage time wisely, healthy ways to deal with stress, and any personal matters that they want to bring up but don’t want to talk to another human being for it.
https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/artificial-intelligence/notes-from-the-ai-frontier-modeling-the-impact-of-ai-on-the-world-economy
The development of Artificial Intelligence isn’t just going to impact just the social classes in the United States, rather the use of Artificial Intelligence will be a world wide economic industry that will impact a lot of countries for the better. The main areas that business will use around the globe will be focused around five different areas of study in Artificial Intelligence: computer vision, natural language, virtual assistants, robotic process automation, and advanced machine learning. Many companies will invest into either one or more of these areas trying to be the best in what they do, creating competition and giving the general populace a bigger options to choose from giving us a health market for the machines that we are trying to use for certain services. Competition is what drives businesses after all.
https://econreview.berkeley.edu/artificial-intelligence-and-the-rise-of-a-new-social-class/
The way that the implementation of AI is being put into the workforce, there is also the fact to consider how the usage of Artificial Intelligence is going to affect the gaps between the lower classes and the higher ones. With the way that Artificial Intelligence is changing society, there could be many changes in how social hierarchy works and according to Historian Yuval Noah Harari there could be the formation of the “Useless” class or otherwise known as the “Unemployable” class since they jobs that they know how to do would have been taken over by machines with no hope of getting re-employment in the same field.
https://www.fastcompany.com/3043761/6-ways-technology-is-breaking-barriers-to-social-change
There are many people around the world who don’t have the basic life necessities that would help them do well in life that wouldn’t be so readily accessible without the help of Artificial Intelligence. Some of the ways that the use of Artificial Intelligence can help in relief efforts in Africa and Asia by being able to use websites such as Indiegogo that will help raise money for clean water. Or even the Khan academy who’s Artificial Intelligence System is able to gauge the student’s capabilities and learning techniques and help them more thoroughly understand the content being taught to them in a way that they would get outside of the classroom.
https://www.bbvaopenmind.com/en/articles/the-past-decade-and-future-of-ais-impact-on-society/
There are many Scholars including Jonna J Bryson of the University of Bath, UK, suggest that the development of Artificial Intelligence is not really “intelligent” because it could be defined as doing the right thing at the right time, but can a machine know the difference between what is right and what is wrong? If it had the choice to fire some workers in a company that has a bit too much employees  to free up some extra cash for the company, it would choose to fire people because logically and statistics wise it’s the best decision, while completely disregarding the fact that those people now have no income and might face serious financial stress all because of a machine decided they weren’t needed.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6452673/
WIth this article there is a lot of concern as to how all of this usage of Artificial Intelligence is even going to work in the first place. There are too many factors that need to be addressed first before the possibilities of Artificial intelligence can really be addressed. There is a significant amount of high quality research into the usage of Artificial Intelligence and how it’s beneficial to the workplace, can we really be okay to use something that we don’t necessarily know everything about and as well as how can we measure what the efficiency that AI can do compared to human workers.

Honestly, I had very low expectations going into Monday's big Apple event. I came away pleasantly surprised. We knew the focus would be some type of TV streaming service, and we knew there would be some sort of introduction to Apple's original content efforts that we've been hearing so much about. Considering how long Apple has been floundering behind the scenes with its streaming efforts, I didn't have high hopes at all. Apple actually managed to leave us with more questions than answers following yesterday's "It's Show Time" event, but Apple TV+ wasn't the only new service Apple debuted at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California on Monday. We had heard plenty of rumors ahead of Apple's press conference, so nothing the company announced came as much of a surprise. Even still, I came away far more impressed with most of what Apple showed us on Monday than I thought I would be. For me personally though, there is one and only one service Apple unveiled that I'm truly excited about, and it's something I've wanted for quite some time. For me, Apple News+ was the least attractive thing Apple announced during yesterday's event. No one really cared about Apple Newsstand, and this is basically a glorified version of that old app combined with Apple News. It's neat, don't get me wrong. There are people out there who still subscribe to magazines for some reason. If even one or two of their favorite magazines are included in Apple News+, it makes financial sense to ditch their old subscriptions and pay $10 a month for unlimited access. Also, anyone who uses iOS devices and subscribes to The Wall Street Journal should switch the Apple News+ because they'll save money. Personally, I don't subscribe to WSJ or any magazines, so I'm not interested. The new Apple Card looks fantastic. The card itself isn't terribly exciting and the rewards are actually pretty standard. The parts that intrigue me are the tools Apple will provide to help people realize the true cost of their purchases with interest if they don't pay them off immediately, and the options Apple is highlighting that are designed specifically to help people pay less interest. Credit card debt is a huge, huge problem and too many massive banks make too much money for anything to truly change this horribly anti-consumer industry. If Apple can help even one person pay less interest, I'm all for it. But again, the Apple Card isn't something that appeals to me personally.Apple Arcade is probably the one service Apple announced on Monday that I think has the best chance of being dead on arrival. It looks like most of the games Apple showed off aren't actually exclusive to Apple Arcade, despite what the company's presentation led us to believe. But the bigger problem is the very nature of mobile gaming. Nearly every successful game on the iOS platform is free to play (F2P), and they're so successful because they make money from in-app purchases and advertising. Apple Arcade doesn't allow in-app purchases or advertising. Plenty of developers will take Apple's money to develop games for the service, but I don't think users en masse will be willing to pay a monthly fee for access to a comparatively small catalog of games, most of which are not exclusive to Apple. That said, pricing is a huge factor here and Apple hasn't yet announced anything on this front. I could see Apple Arcade appealing to some people at $4.99 a month, but I have a feeling it'll be at least twice that price, if not more.As for Apple TV+, it's definitely Apple's most difficult announcement to gauge at this point. There were no trailers and very few details shared regarding the originals that are currently in production. That said, Apple is dumping a ton of cash into getting plenty of big names on board, and I have no doubt that at least a few Apple originals that were teased during the event will be outstanding. But in a crowded marketplace that continues to get even more crowded, that's not enough. For as little as $9 a month, you get access to Netflix's massive content library as well as all of its great original shows and movies. For $6 a month, you can stream unlimited content from Hulu's massive library of popular TV shows. If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, you can access everything in Prime Video for free. On top of all that, Disney (which now owns pretty much everything and everyone) is launching its own streaming service this year with a ton of exclusive content. Now, on top of all that, Apple is going to charge a monthly fee for access to a miniscule catalog of originals? Even if a few are great, it's still a hard pass. That brings us to Apple TV Channels, which is the announcement that I'm personally excited about.Last year, I finally cut the cord. I simply couldn't bear to pay over $100 a month anymore in addition to Netflix solely to watch a handful of shows and live sports. I initially went with Hulu's plan that includes live TV, but after a couple of months I found that we weren't even watching any live TV so I dropped that as well. Now I pay $12 a month for Hulu's ad-free on demand plan, $13 a month for Netflix's standard plan, and for some reason my old TV provider login still works so I can watch every network and premium channel's content in their various apps. The problem I have is the problem many cord cutters have: There isn't a central location for all of the content I watch. The great thing about cable and satellite providers' overpriced TV services are that everything exists in one place. Pick a channel from the guide and you can watch live TV. Set your DVR for any shows you want and all your recordings are accessible from a single page. There are various solutions out there that attempt to mirror this experience, but they're all terribly convoluted. As someone who uses iOS devices, has a Mac computer, and has an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K on every television in my house, Apple TV Channels is exactly what I've been waiting for. Well, almost. It appears as though Apple TV Channels won't be quite as comprehensive as Prime Video Channel Subscriptions, but my hope is that it'll get there. Apple's solution also won't have access to Netflix content, but that doesn't come as much of a surprise since Netflix wisely doesn't want any other companies to have access to its viewership data. As a user it's definitely a bummer, but I can see where Netflix is coming from. Those limitations aside, the Apple TV Channels interface looks like it's going to be fantastic. It'll make it easy to track all the shows you watch, and it'll give you a single portal through which you can access all (well, most) of that content. I need it, and I need it now.Apple knows that the era of remarkable iPhone sales growth is over. It knows it has to focus more on services moving forward. There are still plenty of question marks following Monday's event, but it's easy to see that the company is investing heavily in high-quality services that could potentially become huge businesses for Apple in the future. It will be quite some time before we know which investments will fizzle and which will pay off. In the meantime, May can't get here soon enough because I need that new TV app and Apple TV Channels in my life.

Celebrating one year of Get Rich Slowly 3.0
Can you believe it? A year ago today, I returned to the helm of Get Rich Slowly. Eight-and-a-half years after selling the site, I bought it back. During the past twelve months, GRS has been through three distinct phases as I've struggled to figure out my focus and direction. First, I tried to manage the blog as a curation engine, collecting the best money stories from around the web.You folks wanted more of my voice, though, so I spent three months running the site like I used to in the olden days: I averaged an article a day between January and March. An article a day was too much for you and for me. Since April, I've worked to find a balance. It seems that two or three articles per week is a good pace. In my first year back in charge of Get Rich Slowly, I published 209 articles and sent out 38 weekly email updates. (Each email update is essentially a separate article, most of which is a roundup of cool money stories from around the web.) Let's take a quick look at where we've been and where we're going. Twelve Favorites from Twelve Months Conventional wisdom nowadays is that a blog must be focused to be successful. It has to serve a distinct niche audience. That's smart advice, but I don't follow it. I love the freedom I have when writing at Get Rich Slowly. I love that I'm able to explore a wide range of topics, from how to get out of debt to how to invest to how to be happy. Not every article is applicable to every reader, but I'm okay with that. Even Money Boss (the site I ran from 2015 to 2017) felt too limiting. Here at GRS, I have no contraints. I'm able to write what I want when I want, and I think that leads to better work. Just for fun, here are twelve of my favorite pieces from the past year: Your lifetime wealth ratio (and how to calculate it). Your lifetime wealth ratio (or LWR) compares how much you have today with how much you've earned during your time in the workforce. It's a way to look at the wealth you've created and gauge how well you've done at keeping that wealth. How to prepare for an uncertain future. Our financial decisions are based on our expectations for the future. We base our expectations on past experience both our own experience and the experiences of others. Generally speaking, there's nothing wrong with this method of planning. It works. But what happens when the old patterns break? What happens when past data becomes meaningless?Start where you are. My main message to family and friends who find themselves at forty or fifty and feel behind the curve is: Don't panic. All is not lost. You're not too late. This isn't a contest. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.How to build a wealth snowball. Spend less than you earn that's the basic rule of personal finance. If you spend less than you earn, you'll build a wealth snowball that will allow you do do the things you dream of doing and to have the things you dream of having. The plight of the poor: Thoughts on systemic poverty, fault, and responsibility. There's a seductive myth that poor people deserve what they get. Look, let's get real. Far more people live in poverty due to systemic issues and/or historical legacy than due to a pattern of financial misbehavior. The six stages of financial freedom. I used to believe that financial freedom meant just one thing: Having enough money that you never had to work again. Over the years, I've learned that financial independence exists on a continuum. It's not all or nothing, but an ever-increasing range of options. It's a process. The high cost of homeownership. For both entertainment and catharsis, I spent some time talking about the high costs of homeownership. My experiences seem typical. Everyone I talk to about homeownership has similar tales to tell. I'll bet you do too!How much should you spend in retirement? I've noticed that a lot of retirees early retired or otherwise struggle to know how much they should spend. I believe this dilemma exists for a couple of reasons. The forever fallacy. Everything changes. You change. Your circumstances change. The people around you change. Nothing is forever. The challenge then is to balance this concept everything changes with living in the present. You must learn to enjoy today while simultaneously preparing for possible tomorrows. The advantages of buying and owning a home. I've written a lot about buying and owning a home. Much of what I've written could be construed as anti-homeownership. But I'm not anti-homeownership. Here are some of the reasons I choose to own a home. The thin green line: Why you should be skeptical of financial blogs. The trouble with the rise of blogging as a business is that the business has become the focus for most financial blogs. Financial bloggers aren't making decisions based on what's best for their audience. They're making decisions based on what's likely to bring them the most income.Potential needs versus actual needs: Re-writing my financial blueprint. I've begun to question my compulsion to buy things before I'm ready to use them. I'm questioning my tendency to accumulate things because I might want to use them or I might need them someday. What if I instead gave myself permission to buy whatever I need and/or want but only if I'm going to use it right away? Here's where I need your help! As I consider which topics to tackle in the future, I'd love to know what financial dilemmas you're wrestling with today. What's your biggest pain point when it comes to money? Also, what's your most recent big financial victory? Finally, what challenges do you anticipate in the near future? Your feedback will help me choose which subjects to write about in the months to come. Where We're Headed The past twelve months have been both fun and frustrating. I've had a blast re-engaging with you folks (and gradually getting re-acquainted with long-time readers). Plus, I truly enjoy writing about money. It's my calling in life. At the same time, I'm not so fond of the business and technical side of site management. A decade ago, this wasn't such a big deal. Blogs (and the internet, in general) were less sophisticated and one person could run and manage a site without much hassle. In 2018, however, running a site is more complicated especially a site that's 12-1/2 years old with an archive of 5000+ articles. If you've been following along, you know how much I hate dealing with SEO, monetization, social media, marketing, and other similar tasks. Plus, running a big blog nowadays is expensive. During my first year back, GRS has produced roughly $20,000 in revenue. That's great! Unfortunately, the site has incurred roughly $30,000 in expenses. That's not so great. (And that doesn't even include the costs to repurchase the blog!) I don't need to make big bucks here, but I'm not a fan of working long hours while paying for the privilege. Update! I tabulated some exact numbers. GRS produced $17,219.69 in revenue during the past year. Site-specific expenses not counting costs for software, tools, A/V gear, etc. that I bought for the umbrella company were $28,300.93. That's a net loss of $11,081.24. Translation: I'm currently paying about $1000 per month out of my pocket to keep this site runningplus all of my time. Plus re-acquisition costs. That's why I've decided to collaborate with my pal Tom Drake, the brains behind MapleMoney (a Canadian personal-finance site). Tom not only knows about the technical and marketing stuff, but he actually enjoys it. What a weirdo! With Tom diving into the behind-the-scenes tasks, I'm free to focus on my passion and strength: writing. For the rest of 2018, I intend to publish frequently but on an irregular schedule. Topics will be random and varied. But our goal as we head into 2019 is to develop an actual (loose) publishing schedule that adheres to (loose) monthly themes. Our aim is to *gasp* prepare a lot of material in advance. We believe that doing so will free me (and the rest of the team) to do more creative stuff instead of constantly playing catch-up. My dream is that a year from now, after we've finished renovating the site, Get Rich Slowly will be an excellent, easy-to-use resource for anyone searching for financial help. At the same time, I want it to be an entertaining and interesting place for regular readers to visit. Most of all, I want it to be an outlet for me to write about money. Because honestly, that's all I want to do. https://www.getrichslowly.org/one-year-back-at-get-rich-slowly/

""Haven't been paying my car insurance, help?""
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING Okay so long story short, my bank messed up and my car insurance didn't get paid for.. This was about 3 or 4 months ago. And then it just stopped withdrawing money from my account each month, and I figured I would just take my chances and go without insurance. I didn't cancel it or anything. I had State Farm, and I figured because I was getting a new car anyway I wouldn't bother, but getting a new car took a lot longer than than I thought and I just ended up getting one yesterday. So I got a 2000 Buick Park Avenue, it has airbags, all that. It should have a decently low insurance rate. I have gotten 1 speeding ticket, but no accidents. When I called for a quote though, through a different car insurance company, they told me it would be $230 a month. Why is it so high? Is it because I stopped paying for my State Farm Insurance?""
Husband won't get life insurance?
We just married a few months ago. He bought a house a month before we married through VA loan. We are almost 40, and I believe we need life insurance on each other to cover house, cars, debts, ect.... I have enough on me to cover for my part and some. My husband told me that my name if not on the house so I have not financial bearing. If he dies, I can simply walk out the house and downgrade to a trailer, apartment, rent home, cheper home, whatever.... or I can sell his things to help pay the note... OUr house isn't new and very simple!! regardless, I think this is rude. you don't leave your widowed spouse with all that baggage. He makes plenty that he could afford a policy. I am asking him to cover most of the house, his vehicle, and personal debt... which he has a bunch from before our marriage. Am I being hard on him? He isn;t willing to share checking account or save together. He doesnt want me minding his finaces- none of my business is what he tells me pretty much.""
Renting an Apartment: Is this cost per month affordable for my budget?
The apartment's rent is $750 a month...I'm living with 2 other roommates, so we are dividing that cost three ways. We'll each owe $250 a month...plus electric ($35 - $50 a month), plus cable t.v. ($30 - $40 a month), plus WiFi internet ($30 - $40 a month). So all together, each of us will owe around $275 a month, roughly. I make $32,000 a year before taxes and health insurance...I make a $250 car payment per month, and car insurance is $1000 (+ or -) for 6 months. This is my first time renting (I'm 20), so I want to be sure that I can afford this apartment.""

My car was totaled by my insurance?
I bought a 1999 Honda for $4,500 in March of 2010 from a private party, about nine months ago. The owner never disclosed the fact that the car had been totaled in December on 2009. According to Washington State unless the total meets certain criteria it doesnt have to be listed on the title. On January 17th 2011, I was involved in a car accident. The insurance totaled my car. Somehow the insurance discovered that it had been perversely totaled, which I was not aware of. I had full coverage on the car. They now are saying that I will get receive what the car is worth with a savaged title. My question is, do I have to except this or can I fight for the value of a clean titled vehicle? Should they have run a check on the vin when I insured it with them and discovered the that the vehicle had been totaled before? Or is everything my fault?""

My car insurance is way too expensive?
And I'm planning to change to a different insurance company. What happens when fail to pay Car Insurance premium? Details Inside.?
Hello Friends, I know that failure to pay car insurance will lead to termination. What I basically want is to cancel the insurance, because I plan not to drive that car for few months to save on Insurance premium. My first question is do they allow termination for such reasons? and in case they don't allow that what would happen if I simply stop paying premium? But remember that I plan not to drive it for few months, so why I need insurance after all. Should I cancel my car insurance policy?
So long story short -- I totaled my car in an accident which was my fault back in December, and unfortunately did not have collision coverage on my insurance policy. I am a full-time student and have been unable to afford purchasing another car since then, and do not know when I will be able to afford another car. Although I am now without a vehicle I have been reluctant to cancel my insurance policy because I was told that if I did, whenever I purchased another car and had to buy insurance again the price of it would skyrocket because I would be considered high risk for having a chronological gap in my coverage. So basically I am currently paying $80 a month for car insurance when I do not even have a car, just to avoid having it go up even more at some point in the unknown future after I buy another car. Is this worth it or would it be wiser to just go ahead and cancel my policy? I would like to get some other people's counsel on this who know more about car insurance and who are more financially competent than I am. Thanks so much.""

Teenage Car insurance Impossible?
For starters I am for the most part completely ignorant as to the workings of Car insurance or really.. anything involving cars.. so bare with me.. I'm trying to figure out how to get insurance as a primary driver I'm an 18 year old male still in school with a full G license, the car is a 1995 ford model worth only.. 1000 $ max, it's 2 door, I have a 75%+ average in school, I have no prior accidents or tickets. Exploring the U.S. by RV: The price of adventure
Two years ago today, Kim and I returned to Portland after fifteen months traveling the United States in an RV. Believe it or not, I’ve never published an article about the trip and how much it cost. Although we kept a travel blog for most of the adventure (including a page that documented are expenses), I’ve never gathered everything into one place. Until now.
Today, I want to share just how much we spent on the journey — and some of our favorite stops along the way. It seems like the perfect post to celebrate the start of summer, don’t you think?
The Lure of Adventure
All my life, I’ve wanted to take a roadtrip across the United States.
When I was young, I was lured by the adventure. I wanted to climb mountains, swim rivers, and explore canyons. The older I got, the more fascinated I became by the country’s regional differences. The U.S. is huge, a fact that most foreign visitors forget. Most American citizens don’t even realize how big the country is. I wanted to see and experience it all.
Although I’ve dreamed of a cross-country roadtrip, it’s never been practical. As a boy, my family was poor. My parents didn’t have money for something like this. As a young adult, I couldn’t afford it either. For a long time, I was deep in debt. Besides, where would I find the time? I had to work! To top things off, my wife had zero interest in driving cross country.
But in my forties, a curious set of circumstances came together to move my epic roadtrip from dream to reality.
I sold Get Rich Slowly, which meant I suddenly had a surplus of both time and money.
My wife and I got a divorce. When I began dating again, I chose a partner whose adventurous spirit surpassed my own.
One day in early 2014, my girlfriend Kim asked me out of the blue, “What do you think about taking a cross-country roadtrip?”
What did I think? “Hell yeah!” is what I thought…
Making a Plan
As Kim and I began to discuss this adventure, our biggest concern was money. As a financial writer, I’m acutely aware that every dollar I spend today is roughly equivalent to seven dollars I could have in retirement. Every day, I preach the power of saving. I wanted to keep our trip as cost-effective as possible. (Besides, Kim would have to quit her job as a dental hygienist in order to travel — a huge financial sacrifice.)
My goal was to keep our costs under $50 per person per day. In fact, I had high hopes we could do the trip for $33 per person per day (for a total of $24,000). But the U.S. is expensive. How could Kim and I make this happen?
From the start, we knew hotels were out. Even cheap lodging would be far too expensive for us to stay within budget. Personally, I liked the idea of bicycling across the country like my friends Dakota and Chelsea have done. Kim wasn’t keen on the idea. (Nor was she willing to make the trip by motorcycle despite being a die-hard Harley girl.)
After a lot of research, and after talking with Chris and Cherie from Technomadia, I came to a conclusion: The best balance of cost and comfort would come from crossing the country in an RV. With this bare outline of a plan, the true trip prep began.
Searching for Bigfoot
After deciding to travel by RV, there were more questions to answer. Neither of us had experience with recreational vehicles. Among other things, we needed to figure out:
Should we buy a truck and a trailer?
Would it be better to buy a motorhome and tow my 2004 Mini Cooper?
What about new or used? With used, you never know what you’re getting. But a new RV costs $80,000 or more — and loses value quickly.
How much space did we need? What kinds of amenities?
After crunching the numbers, there was an obvious “best choice” for us. If we bought a used motorhome, we could tow a car we already owned while (we hoped) avoiding a big hit from depreciation. In fact, if we were diligent every step of the way, it might even be possible to resell our RV after the trip and recoup most of what we’d paid for it!
We spent the autumn of 2014 patiently sifting through Craigslist ads for used motorhomes. We visited dealerships. We attended the local RV Expo. We walked through dozens of models searching for the right fit. Some were too long. Some were too short. Some were too fancy. Many were run-down and in a state of disrepair.
Finally, in early January 2015, we found the perfect rig: a 2005 Bigfoot 30MH29RQ. (Translation: A 29-foot motorhome with a queen bed in the rear.) The owner wanted $38,000 for it — a fair price. He wouldn’t budge when I tried to negotiate, but I was okay with that. My research revealed he was actually selling a slightly better model, one worth a few thousand dollars more than he was asking. We bought it.
youtube
Over the next two months, Kim and I prepped Bigfoot for departure. We spent $2000 making minor repairs and installing a towbar on the Mini Cooper. We cleaned the motorhome from top to bottom. We took weekend test trips to RV parks around Oregon and Washington. When all was said and done, we’d invested $40,000 to get our caravan ready for the road.
Into the West
Kim and I left Portland on the morning of 25 March 2015, my forty-sixth birthday. We sped through Oregon — we love the state, but we’re both familiar with it — and entered northern California. We spent our first week on the road exploring the Redwoods and weaving through wine country.
Along the way, we got a crash course in driving a motorhome.
Near Cloverdale, California we took a wrong turn onto a cliff-side gravel road. We stopped immediately. Good thing, too. Turns out a week earlier some other poor soul had driven his RV over the side of the cliff. East of Sacramento, we took another wrong turn and found ourselves driving down a narrow dike road during rush hour while high winds buffeted the RV. Very scary.
At times we felt like Lucy and Desi in The Long, Long Trailer, but after a couple of weeks Kim and I had learned how to handle our motorhome, both on the road and off.
youtube
Early in the trip, our expenses were out of sight. We ate out too often. We bought too much wine. We did too many touristy things without searching for discounts. We rationalized that since we were visiting all of these new places (and might never return), we might as well pay to experience them to the fullest. This was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, after all.
The problem, of course, was that lots of fun costs lots of money. Ten days into the trip, our average spending was over $120 per day (or over $60 per person per day) — almost twice what we’d hoped to spend. Yikes!
We tightened the purse strings. We stopped eating out so much and cooked in the motorhome. (We cook a lot at home normally, so this wasn’t a tough transition.) We bought a National Parks pass, perhaps the best purchase of our entire trip. (For an $80 one-time fee, you get one year of unlimited access to all sorts of government-owned sites.) We learned to entertain ourselves at night with books and boardgames and a hard drive filled with old movies — and an iPad filled with comic books.
During our 33 days in California, we marveled at the state’s vast variety of terrain. We drove through forests and deserts, skirted ocean cliffsides and walked across mountain streams. We hated L.A. traffic — not recommended when you’re in a motorhome towing a car — but enjoyed almost everything else.
We loved Arizona even more. Maybe we had low expectations, but we were blown away by the magnificent scenery of the Grand Canyon state. For nineteen days, we basked in the warm spring sun and admired the colorful rock formations.
It was in Arizona that we discovered the joys of drycamping (or “boondocking”). For the first seven weeks of our trip, we mostly stayed in RV parks and campgrounds. At $20 to $50 per night (with the average park costs around $35), lodging was our biggest expense — by far. Drycamping costs nothing. All you do is find a spot where you can legally park for the night — National Forest land, a friend’s driveway, certain businesses and casinos — and set up camp. You don’t have access to electricity or fresh water, but that’s okay. The beauty of an RV is that it’s self-contained. (Our Bigfoot had a generator for electricity and a 63-gallon freshwater tank.)
After boondocking only once during our first 50 days on the road, we managed to live off the grid for 33 of the next 80 nights.
Once we began pinching pennies, our travel costs plummeted. We weren’t spending $120 per day anymore. Our average daily spending fell to $50, which lowered the trip average to about $80 per day.
A Costly Repair
With all this frugality, did we feel like we were depriving ourselves? Not at all! As we made our way from Arizona to Utah to Colorado, we found we could still afford wine and an occasional restaurant meal. Plus, we were paying to do a lot of touristy things, such as soak in the hot springs in Ouray and ride the narrow-gauge train from Durango to Silverton.
At the end of May, we stopped for a week to visit family and friends near Denver. During this break, our RV costs dropped to zero — no fuel or lodging expenses while we stayed with Kim’s mother and hung out with Mr. Money Mustache — which allowed us to spend a little more on fun. Good thing too because Fort Collins has a great beer scene.
We hit the road again in early June, making our way into Wyoming to visit Yellowstone and the Tetons. We zipped over to Idaho to spend time with Kim’s father in Sun Valley. From there, we drove north into Montana to lounge around Flathead Lake and explore Glacier National Park. Costs stayed low as we crossed Montana to enter the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.
After celebrating Independence Day in Deadwood, our average daily spending for the trip was about $84. We felt good about that number. It’d be nice if it were lower, but $42 per day per person seemed reasonable. At that rate, the trip would cost us $30,000 for the entire year.
On July 8th, the tenor of our trip changed. So did our costs. We were cruising across the vast emptiness of central South Dakota when the motorhome’s engine overheated. We pulled off to give it a rest. The oil level looked fine, but I added more just in case. It didn’t help. An hour down the highway, the engine seized up completely. Turns out Bigfoot had “spun a bearing” and the engine was toast. (Also turns out that spun bearings are not uncommon with this particular engine.)
Unfortunately, we were in the middle of nowhere. The nearest town was Plankinton, South Dakota (population 707). Fortunately, the folks in Plankinton were friendly. The owners of the local garage diagnosed the problem and ordered parts. Meanwhile, we got to know the owners of the only RV park in town. We spent ten days drinking beer with Plankintonians while exploring nearby attractions such as the Corn Palace and the real-life homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
In the end, the engine repair cost $7751.39. Ouch! We did not count this against our daily trip budget but instead factored it into our overhead, much like we had with the purchase price of the RV. (You might choose to account for it differently.)
The Expensive East
When the new engine was ready, we waved good-bye to our new friends in Plankinton. We drove through Minnesota to Wisconsin, where we spent a week in the Great North Woods. (At the recommendation of world traveler Gary Arndt, whom we had lunch with near Milwaukee, we took a boat ride out to view the amazing Apostle Islands.)
After eating our fill of Wisconsin cheese, we crossed into Michigan’s upper peninsula and then drove south to Indiana’s Amish country, where we rested for a week. (We also took the time to dart into Chicago for an overnight trip.) From there, we moved to Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
As we made our way east, we noticed some interesting changes.
First, there were fewer opportunities for boondocking. There’s less government-owned land in the East than there is in the West. (The western U.S. is largely government land, which means lots of places to camp for free.)
Second, while gasoline prices were lower in the east, everything else was more expensive. RV parks were more expensive. Groceries were more expensive. Beer and wine were more expensive. Restaurants, especially, were more expensive.
Our average daily spending started to creep upward. By the time we reached Ohio in mid-August, we were shelling out $120 per day again. After 150 days on the road, the average for the entire trip was $93.48 per day (or $46.74 per person).
By this point it was clear that we couldn’t spend a year on the road for our initial $24,000 budget. (You might, but we couldn’t. Not while enjoying the lifestyle we wanted.) Even $30,000 for the year seemed unlikely. We revised our budget upward to $36,000 (or about $50 per person per day) — not counting the expensive engine repair. We had plenty in savings, so we could afford to stretch some, but we still wanted to spend as little as possible.
From Cincinnati, we traveled to beautiful West Virginia, then north to Cleveland. After that, we hopped over to Niagara Falls, where we camped for a few days at a winery. (We helped bottle brandy and bought a few bottles of wine in exchange for firewood and a place to park.)
Stopping in Savannah
During September, we sort of lost our steam. The enthusiasm we’d had at the start of the trip petered out. Instead of exploring Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina, we holed up in the RV and worked. It might sound crazy, but we missed being productive and making money! Being hermits saved us money, of course, but we felt like we were wasting an opportunity.
After much discussion, we decided to take a break. We spent a week driving around the eastern seaboard, looking for a place to park for the winter. We fell in love with Savannah, Georgia, so we rented a condo and put the RV in storage. For six months, we lived a relatively normal life. Kim found full-time work as a dental hygienist, and I launched Money Boss (which I’ve been folding into Get Rich Slowly since re-purchasing this site).
Our six months in Savannah were interesting. I had never lived outside of Oregon, so I suffered some culture shock. I always say that I’m relatively conservative for the Portland area — but that still makes me pretty liberal for anywhere in the southeastern U.S.!
While in Savannah, we didn’t just work. We made sure to have some fun too. Over Christmas, we flew to New York City for a long weekend, where we got to hang out with some of our favorite money bloggers. In February, we took a couple of weeks to tour the state of Florida, from Jacksonville to Tampa to Miami to Key West to the Kennedy Space Center.
Important note: By this time — nearly one year into our trip — Kim and I had both started packing on the pounds. Sad but true. We were eating great food and drinking great beer everywhere we went, and we were out of our exercise routine. Not good.
After returning from Florida, we began planning for our return trip to Potland. It had taken us six months to make it from the Pacific to Atlanta. It seamed reasonable to budget the same amount of time for heading home.
Old Pros
If this were a travel blog, I’d cover the return trip in depth. A lot of fun stuff happened during our final three months on the road. But this is a money blog, and I’m trying to focus this article on the financial side of our journey. As a result, I’m going to gloss over a lot. Financially, not much exciting happened.
From the start, the return leg felt different.
For one thing, we were old pros at the whole RVing thing by this point. At the start of the trip, everything had been new and exciting and even a little scary. A year later, however, Kim and I had things down to a science. We were no longer freaked out by little problems. On our first day back on the road, one of our headlights went out. No problem! Kim promptly repaired it.
The return trip felt different too because we spent less time with friends and family. While we did stop to see people along the way, we didn’t have nearly as many contacts in southern states as we had in the north.
Also, we spent much more time in state parks during the drive home. Traveling east, our camping spots had been varied. Sometimes, we parked in driveways of friends or family. Other times, we did drycamping on Forest Service land. Many of our campsites were located in Thousand Trails parks, which means they were essentially free. (Kim had access to an annual pass through her father.) But these options were few and far between in the Southeast, so we learned to love state parks, which are cheap and plentiful all over the United States. (State parks can get busy on holiday weekends, but otherwise are nearly empty — especially midweek.)
Finally, we changed the pace of our travel. On the outbound leg, we moved camp every two or three days. (We moved every 2.84 days, to be precise.) But going home, we intentionally slowed down. We tried to say four or five days in each location. (Until we picked up our puppy in Oklahoma — about which, more in a moment — we moved every 4.25 days.) In short, we stayed in each location nearly twice as long on our way west as we had on our way east.
The Journey Home
We had intended to spend six months driving home, just as we’d spent six months getting to Savannah. That was the plan. We knew that our first two months would be spent carving an “S” through the southeastern United States. And, surprisingly enough, those two months went as we thought they would.
We left Savannah at the end of March and drove to Asheville, North Carolina. (“This town is like a training ground for hipster who aren’t ready for the West Coast,” I observed.) We visited Dollywood and Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Eastern Tennessee. We dallied a few days in Nashville — home to the worst drivers we encountered on the entire trip (no joke!) — where we had a lot of fun immersing ourselves in country music culture. I was pleased to see the Taylor Swift exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame!
One of our favorite stops on the entire trip came in Lexington, Kentucky. For one, we got to hang out with friends for the first time in months. More than that, northern Kentucky is beautiful, filled with rolling green hills and horse pastures. Kim and I spent our fourth anniversary as a couple watching the races at Keeneland. And, of course, we sampled the “Bourbon trail”.
youtube
From Kentucky, we drove west to St. Louis, then to central Missouri. My grandmother was born near Lake of the Ozarks, so I spent my time there trying to imagine what it must have been like for her as a girl 100 years ago. (By the way, did you know that the Ozark Mountains are the opposite of most mountains? Most mountains are formed when land thrusts up from the Earth’s crust. The Ozarks were formed by erosion when the vast inland sea that once occupied the space between the Rockies and the Appalachians drained away.)
Our next stop was special. In late April 2016, we drove into northeast Oklahoma to visit my cousin Gwen and her family. She and her husband Henry moved from Oregon many years ago, and they now own a 100-acre creek hollow outside Tahlequah, Oklahoma. (Tahlequah has two claims to fame. First, it’s the endpoint of the Trail of Tears. Second, it’s the setting for Where the Red Fern Grows. In fact, one scene in the book takes place on my cousin’s property!)
From Tahlequah, we doubled back on ourselves, turning east. This part of our trip was educational, to say the least. We got to see some of the poorer parts of the country.
We spent a couple of nights in beautiful Hot Springs, Arkansas, for instance. Hot Springs was once a booming resort town, popular with tourists from the East Coast. Today, the downtown area is a hollow core of what it once was (although there are a lot of people doing their best to save it).
Memphis was even worse. Kim and I spent several days in the Memphis area, driving down into Mississippi to travel the Blues Highway. This part of the U.S. is poor. Its infrastructure — roads and services and so on — is falling apart. It was shocking. (About a month after we drove the Blues Highway, we stayed a few days in Natchez, Mississippi, a few hundred miles south. Conditions in that region were even worse.)
Our eastward extent ended in Huntsville, Alabama, where we enjoyed spending time with my college roommate and his boyfriend. From there, we headed south to the Gulf of Mexico, which we followed from Gulf Shores, Alabama to New Orleans.
Kim and I loved southern Louisiana. The culture is distinct. The people are friendly. The food is amazing. It was here that we realized our favorite parts of the United States are those that retain a distinct character. You see, much of the U.S. has become homogenized. Indianpolis could be Orlando could be Sacramento could be Cleveland. No knock on any of these cities, but there’s a sameness about them despite the unique aspects of each of them. Cities like Miami and New York and New Orleans, however, feel very different. They’re unique. They have a unique culture, and they cling to it in the face of pressure to conform. As a result, they’re the most fun places to visit. (In each case, we believe this is because the population of these places is so diverse.)
Our leg across the Mississippi to Houston was interesting. And frustrating. It was the Friday of Memorial Day weekend 2016, and the heavens opened up. It rained and rained and rained. Texas isn’t equipped to handle so much rain. There was flooding everywhere, and roads became impassable. What ought to have been a five-hour drive to our campground turned into eight or nine hours of struggling to get where we wanted to go. We had to change plans and camp at the first place we could find with open space.
As you know, Texas is h-u-g-e. I mentioned earlier that the United States is larger than most folks realize. Well, Texas is too. During our nearly two weeks there, we visited Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. Even with all of that driving, we barely scratched the surface of the state.
The Home Stretch
At this point, we were just over two months into our planned six-month return trip. We had planned to head toward west Texas, then revisit some of our favorite western spots from the previous year. That plan changed when:
The couple who had been watching our condo in Portland found a home of their own. The extended housesitting gig worked out well for them because they were between places. It gave them time to be patient and purchase the perfect house. But once they found it, they were eager to leave. (And understandably so.) As a result, we needed to return to Portland sooner than anticipated.
We got a dog. When we’d stopped in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in late April, Kim fell in love with a litter of puppies. “Can we take one home?” she asked. At the time, I argued against it. But over the next few weeks, she whittled down my defenses. By the time we reached Dallas — just a few hours from Tahlequah — I agreed we could get a dog.
So, after our time in Dallas, we returned to the 100-acre creek hollow where my cousin lives. We picked out our puppy (which we named Tahlequah, naturally) and spent a few days getting her used to the RV. When we felt like she was ready, we hit the road — making a bee-line directly for home.
But even when you’re trying to make tracks in an RV, things still take time. Despite the fact that we were rushing the last part of the trip, it took us three weeks to get from northeastern Oklahoma to northwestern Oregon.
We spent our first two nights with the puppy in tiny Kingman, Kansas. There, we enjoyed one of our favorite campsites: An entire country fairground where we were the only guests. We had the run of the place, which was awesome because we could get the puppy used to us — and we could get used to her. Plus, the fairground was cheap cheap cheap.
Note: By the way, we found this location with our copy of the book Free and Low-Cost Campgrounds, which was a godsend on the trip. Although we’re all accustomed to great cell service in cities, the reality is that most of the U.S. has shitty coverage. There’s just no need for it in sparsely populated areas, and most of the U.S. is sparsely populated. (This fact surprised me, by the way. For some reason, I thought the reality was population density but the opposite is true.) As a result, when you’re doing an extended road trip, you need important info in print format.
From Kansas, we drove through the most barren stretch of our entire trip — eastern Colorado — to visit Kim’s mother in Fort Collins (and to see our pal Mr. Money Mustache once more). Then we burned rubber (literally…two of the RV tires started to fall apart!) to make it to her father outside Boise. We spent the last two days of the trip visiting my brother in central Oregon, then on 29 June 2016, we pulled into Portland.
At long last, we were home.
Culture Shock — at Home
Once Kim and I returned home, we experienced unexpected culture shock. After fifteen months of what was essentially an extended holiday (despite the fact we both worked in Savannah), normal life felt…well, normal life felt crazy.
We were overwhelmed by the busy-ness of it all: the pace, the scheduling, all of the requests for time and attention. “Why is this so tough for us?” I asked after a couple of weeks at home.
“I don’t know,” Kim said. “But it sucks.” She was right. It did suck.
About that time, I read Guardians of Being, a short book that mixes the philosophy of Eckhart Tolle with the animal art of Patrick McDonnell (from Mutts). Tolle, of course, is best known for his massive bestseller, The Power of Now, which encourages readers to get out of their heads and be more “present in the moment”. I was struck by this quote from Guardians:
Most of us live in a world of mental abstraction, conceptualization, and image making — a world of thought. We are immersed in a continuous stream of mental noise…We get lost in doing, thinking, remembering, anticipating — lost in a maze of complexity and a world of problems.
While we were on the road, Kim and I lived in the Now. We were always present in the moment. We might have vague plans for where we wanted to be in a few days or a few weeks, but mostly we made things up as we went along.
“Where do you want to go next?” Kim might ask, and then we’d pick a spot.
“Where should we camp tonight?” I might ask as we drove to the new town, and Kim would find a campground. “What should we do for dinner? Should we visit that park? This site is awesome — let’s stay a few more nights.” Nearly everything we did was spontaneous. We had no plans or commitments and it was wonderful.
But back home, even without jobs to go to and few plans, the pace of modern life was staggering. We were always doing something with somebody. We scheduled appointments and anticipated commitments. We had to-do lists. We went to the gym three mornings a week, took the puppy to puppy classes, agreed to help colleagues, and so on. There was so much going on that there was never a chance to simply be present in the Here and Now.
We had no “margin” in our lives.
And the stuff! There was so much stuff! We had few possessions in the motorhome; we didn’t miss what we did not have. At home, even though we had less than many folks, we were surrounded by tons of stuff. Tons of stuff! So many books! So many clothes! So many dishes! So much in every closet and cupboard.
Kim and I were overwhelmed because we made a sudden transition from doing and having very little to doing and having a lot. All of the stuff and commitments comes with mental baggage. It takes brainwidth.
Even after we had settled down, we found it tough to resume “normal” life. Kim went back to work four days a week as a dental hygienist. I resumed writing and giving speaking gigs. We did our best to return to our old life…but it all felt wrong, like old clothes that no longer fit. So, we bought a place in the country. We have access to the city when we want it. Mostly, though, we stay at home and enjoy the relaxed pace with our ever-growing zoo.
It feels good to not be racing around so much. It feels nice to just be, you know?
Getting Rid of Bigfoot
Aside from the culture shock, Kim and I faced another problem upon our return. We no longer needed a motorhome. It was time to sell our loyal companion.
For some reason, we thought selling the RV would be simple. It wasn’t. From the time we started the process — which was eight or nine months after returning home — it took a year to actually get rid of Bigfoot.
We started by listing the rig on both Craigslist and RV Trader. Plus, I created a sales page that contained more information than we could fit in a normal advertisement.
We waited. And waited. And waited. Nobody seemed interested.
“Maybe we’re asking too much,” Kim suggested after a few months with zero responses. We had purchased the RV for $38,000, remember, and then spent nearly $8000 to replace the engine. By our reckoning, we had a $46,000 vehicle on our hands (and we’d made other upgrades too!) so we wanted $40,000 in return. Nobody wanted to pay $40,000.
We lowered the price to $38,000. As a result, we received a few email inquiries, but nobody came out to see the RV in person. We lowered the price to $35,000. We got more email inquiries, but still nobody wanted to view it.
When we lowered the price to $32,000, we finally got a reasonable number of responses and had a few people come out to take a look at the motorhome. We also learned that the price wasn’t the only thing holding people back. To us, the fact that Bigfoot had a new engine was a selling point. Turns out, that’s a red flag to a lot of people. Their reasoning is that if the engine went out once, it’ll go out again. This baffles me, but that’s what people were telling us.
“We’ve got to get rid of that thing,” Kim said last Christmas.
“I know,” I said. “It’s an albatross. Let’s lower the price to $30,000.”
After we lowered the price to $30,000, we immediately had buyers interested. We were flooded with email. One guy drove out right away to look at the RV. “I can’t have money for you until Monday,” he told us. “Will you hold it for me?” Given our inability to sell the thing, you might think we’d take him up on his offer. But we didn’t.
The next day, a couple drove seven hours from Sandpoint, Idaho to look at the motorhome. “We’ve been looking all over for a Bigfoot!” they told us. After several hours of inspecting the rig, they made us an offer: $28,000. We accepted. After three years of ownership, we were rid of the RV.
The Great Reckoning
So, this is a money blog. The most important question to answer is: How much did this trip cost us? Great question. We don’t have a precise answer, but I’ll share as many numbers as I can so that you can decide whether a trip like this would be worth it for your family.
Because I’m a money nerd, I keep detailed stats on most of my life. The RV trip is no different. I have a spreadsheet with detailed trip info, and I published trip stats at my travel blog. Here are some highlights:
During 283 days on the road, we spent 371.3 hours (15.5 days total!) driving the RV across the U.S. We put 17,250 miles on the motorhome and 17,718 miles on the Mini Cooper. That’s a total of 34,968 miles driven — about 1.5 times the circumference of the Earth! Between the two vehicles, we drove an average of 120 miles per day.
Everyone wonders about fuel efficiency in an RV. Well, it sucks. We had hoped to average 10 miles per gallon; we got 7.7. (No, replacing the engine didn’t make things better.) The motorhome consumed 2202.6 gallons of fuel at an average price of $2.48 per gallon. It cost us 32 cents per mile to drive that beast — and that’s only counting gasoline.
On the first leg of the trip, we spent a total of $17,137.07 for budgeted daily items. Fuel and routine maintenance for the motorhome and car ate up a third of that budget. Food (both groceries and restaurants) consumed another third. We spent $3086 on lodging, which works out to $16.24 per night. The remaining $2000 was spent on alcohol, fun, and miscellaneous expenses. (Our stats for the return leg weren’t as detailed.)
About two-thirds of our nights were spent in campgrounds or RV parks. We drycamped 19% of the time on the way east (but not once on the way home). We spent 18% of our nights in somebody’s home or driveway.
We visited 38 states. We spent the most time in California (33 nights) and Colorado (25 nights). We loved them all.
Arizona and West Virginia were the two most beautiful states we saw on our trip, although the area around Jackson, Wyoming was probably the single prettiest place. Charleston, South Carolina and Lafayette, Louisiana had the best food (the Midwest had the worst) and Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, New York had the best beer. The worst drivers? Orlando, Savannah, and especially Nashville.
To me, the most important numbers is what I’d call our “base costs”. These are the combination of gas and lodging, the costs for keeping the RV in action. During the first leg of our trip, our base costs were $35.09 per day (with an overall cost of $90.20 per day). During the second leg, our base costs were $41.25 per day (and I didn’t keep track of total costs).
How much you would spend beyond these base costs is, well, up to you. Obviously, we were spending an extra $50 to $60 per day, or about $25 to $30 per person. This includes food and fun but it does not include the cost of the RV and/or maintenance. (Our net cost for the RV was $10,000 — $38,000 purchase price, $28,000 sale price — plus the $7751.39 for engine replacement.)
And don’t forget that we spent about $2000 to furnish the RV before setting out, plus had to make miscellaneous repairs. My guess (and this is only a guess) is that our total cost for for the RV trip outside daily expenses was $15,500. This equates to about $53 per day. If you add this to our ongoing daily expenses, you get a total of $143 per day. Let’s round that to $150 per day.
All told, to live like we did on the road — which was living well — it cost about $150 per day (or about $4500 per month) for two people. I’m sure it can be done for less. And we met tons of people who spend much more.
I realize that not everyone can afford this sort of adventure. Nor do many people have the ability to pick up and leave their lives for six or twelve or eighteen months. In other words, this isn’t the sort of trip that everyone has the time and money to make happen.
But for those who do have the resources, exploring the United States by motorhome is surprisingly inexpensive. And fun. For less than $50 per person per day — plus whatever we eventually lose to depreciation — Kim and I are enjoying the adventure of a lifetime.
On the Road Again?
Here’s the thing: Our story is not unique. There’s this idea that RVing is only for old people with more time and money than sense. Sure, there are plenty of retired couples out there in brand-new $200,000 luxury motorhomes, but there are also a surprising number of younger couples on the road full time — including couples with kids!
Everyone we talked to reported the same thing: If you’re careful, it’s perfectly possible to live large in a motorhome on a modest budget. There are plenty of awesome side-effects too. The trip strengthened my relationship with Kim. (If you can make things work in 245 square feet, you can certainly do it in a larger space!) It taught us that we need far less Stuff to live than we thought.
The best side effect of all? Realizing just how awesome everybody is. I’m not joking. The media has whipped us into a state of hysteria in this country. The Left hates the Right. The Right hates the Left. Nobody talks or takes time to understand the other side. That’s bullshit, to be honest.
During our fifteen months away from Portland, we had two bad experiences — and they weren’t even that bad. (Maybe the people were just having off days?) Universally, everybody was friendly and polite and fun.
This morning, as I was finishing this article, Kim and I got to talking. “Wouldn’t it be fun to do a trip like that again?” she asked. “Maybe we should buy another RV.” Haha. Maybe. I told her we should put it off until next year.
Our adventure across the U.S. truly was the trip of a lifetime.
What are you waiting for? If you too have always dreamed of an epic cross-country roadtrip, get cracking. Draw up a plan. Save your money. Make it happen.

Kaiser Permanente Discusses Their Diabetes Care
Since we love to gripe about healthcare providers, but seldom get an opportunity to talk together frankly, I was excited to finally run into a few executives from Kaiser Permanente (KP) at a healthcare blogging occasion.   Enjoy ’em or hate ’em, Kaiser is America’s leading integrated health care company with a distinctive nonprofit business model (and also those cool “your-couch-is-a-carb” / / Thrive advertisements).
They are extremely interested in Social Media, therefore it didn’t take too much coercion to make them agree to a DiabetesMine.com interview with one of their most articulate (and pragmatic) leaders. Dr. Michael Mustille serves as “Associate Executive Director, External Relations.” An extremely major PR title. However, Dr. Mustille is likewise an occupational medicine doctor with 33 years’ expertise and former manager of the South San Francisco KP health centre. He now sits at the executive director of the Permanente Federation, the organization’s medical arm, and can be personally involved in rather a range of health quality initiatives.
Oh, the irony!  Of course I conducted this interview before last week allegations of mismanagement and medical misconduct hit the fan.
Anyhoo, here is what Dr. Mustille needed to say about what he believes makes Kaiser powerful and how this impacts individuals with diabetes.
*     *     *
DM) Kaiser has been pioneering in best practices for chronic disease control, even launching the subsidiary KP Healthy Solutions to let their expertise. What exactly does KP actually do so well here for diabetes patients particularly?
MM) Why is Kaiser is such a leader in healthcare? I’d say it is all about Quality of Care. We’ve shown this consistently, and within the previous decades two things stand out: our treatment for chronic conditions and also our “health & wellness” push to find the greatest possible prevention and screening.
This is in fact substantiated using standardized quality performance measures, such as those from the NCQA, that monitors quality health and certifies health plans/HMOs throughout the country. They use a standardized data set, and also a publicly available rating methodology. (You can look up report cards on almost any HMO in america.) Kaiser is at or near the top round the Nation.
These standards include, by way of instance, a bundle of diabetes-related steps for individuals: Can you get your A1c tested? Your lipids tested? Your microalbumin measured?   We do occasionally examine patients, but we track the quality of care received from our recordings, including claims data and chart reviews.
Obviously, quantifying in these ways is not the same as making people healthy inside their daily lives. For this, we are in need of a coordinated application of actions/treatments which help get patients where they have to be health-wise — in this instance, if they have pre-diabetes, full diabetes, or complications of diabetes have established in.
DM) How simple is it for diabetes patients with Kaiser to get their own “diabetes care team” — endocrinologist, CDE, nutritionist, podiatrist, etc. — to actually communicate and work together?
MM) One big benefit is shared medical documents. At Kaiser, all those people today work in the same organization, usually at the same location. In a less coordinated system, your providers are across town and each has their own medical documents — that are incomplete, because they only demonstrate the care you received at that office. KP providers work shoulder-to-shoulder with the same records, measuring real outcomes.
We cure 277,000 patients throughout the country with diabetes (out of 8.5 million KP members complete). We all know that their A1c, whether have observed the doctor or where in the hospital recently, and if they’ve filled their diabetes prescriptions. We can tell who they are, where they are, and what degree of control they have, therefore we really know what works concerning team care.
We’re making a real effort now to further advance health information technologies with a brand new suite of software programs called KP HealthConnect(Editor’s note: that has also come under scrutiny). Everything significant for each member is recorded digitally, including visits, lab results, prescriptions, etc.,– no more paper records. The information could be shared with any KP provider anywhere.
We’d also like to see interoperability outside of the KP system, therefore emergency teams along with other critical providers possess some way to retrieve and transmit vital patient information. We’re engaging in a national effort to nurture the Interoperability of Medical Records.
DM) Isn’t Kaiser helping establish standards for transfer of data from many different kinds of health tracking systems (that the Continua Health Alliance)? What are a few of the roadblocks or hot buttons there?
MM) Yes, this is a different problem, which is how to create medical devices “speak to one another. “Kaiser is a charter member of their Continua standards committee. The focus is on Home Monitoring Devices — scales, sugar monitoring, blood pressure apparatus etc — would link mechanically with each other to some degree and also to a database at your supplier’s site.
We’re proficient at designing systems which seem strong, but are siloed, meaning they work great only in the range of their wants, but don’t contribute to your overall medical care. A lot of new apparatus beg the question: Is this really beneficial? Or simply confusing, and possibly even dangerous?
These systems are very fresh, and people tend to lump numerous different monitoring technologies together.   What is their value, and for whom?   These questions will need to be answered by doing a few studies.
DM) What about going into continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) because the quality of diabetes treatment? Where does Kaiser stand on this particular issue?
MM) One of the nice things about practicing medicine in KP is the fact that if you’ve got a excellent idea on how best to help individuals, you can go ahead and try it out. A few of our endocrinologists in Southern California recognized CGM engineering early on and decided to try it. They experimented with patients utilizing Minimed’s model and found it quite useful for hypoglycemic unawareness. However, many Type 2 diabetics may do quite well with this system.
DM) Are individuals encouraged and/or encouraged to try the latest cutting-edge treatments?
MM) In Kaiser, a CGM apparatus would be covered if the patient can’t achieve good glucose control even after exhausting all of the other attempts. This is, we have a step-wise (or evidence-based) way of employing new remedies. We’ve got quidelines for what therapies are appropriate to begin with, and what is the next step and the next step then.
We don’t look at these items insurance choices. These are medical decisions at KP.
It actually is an issue of the person and their doctor making the decision; should they think that current therapy is not working well, they could decide to proceed to the next step.
DM) How can your approach particularly progressive or distinct from what other healthcare organizations do?
MM) We actually have evidence that diabetes patients at KP do better than everywhere. For one thing, we have an innovative way of assessing actual costs. We’ve developed an analytical motor utilizing clinical and financial information to gauge the costs of covering certain inhabitants. By way of instance, we can take all the available information for folks who work in a rubber plant at Des Moines, Iowa, and estimate costs for this population.
With this predictive model we could compute outcomes 10 years from now when we alter the peoples’ therapy, i.e. when we implement a nutrition program or put them on certain medicines, what is the likely impact on their health issues? This is actually significant information, because we could save thousands of dollars and stop countless heart attacks!
In terms of diabetes care, we could understand that there’s generally a return on investment (ROI) of 2 or 3 dollars on each dollar set in. That is strong financial evidence that proactive diabetes therapy is a enormous cost savings for providers in the long term. For employers, in addition, it implies less absenteeism, no extra money wasted in simple treatments, and so forth.
DM) How does all this play from the individual’s perspective?
MM) We provide our expertise via web-based and telephone training, in which patients have direct contact with caregivers who help them develop plans for their individual needs. This isn’t only for chronic conditions, but also for nourishment, exercise, stress reduction, end-of-life care, plus even more. Here is the support which KP Healthy Solutions helps provide to organizations outside of Kaiser.
We’ve had the largest impact (cost savings and outcomes) with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and depression.
Depression is amazingly important. We’ve discovered that, by way of instance, a diabetic manhood generally spends 4x as many days at the hospital compared to an average member. With depression and diabetes, the member spends 8x as many days at the hospital. So among the first things we do is monitor patients for depression. In addition, we train our care teams on how best to determine motivational factors, and we’re making counseling part of the therapy program.
DM) What about early intervention and pre-diabetes care?
MM) We have guidelines for this, 220 pages of these! Seriously, if a man has a family history of diabetes or other markers, then we are doing Favorable screening. In addition, we understand you can’t use this sort of care for a cookie cutter approach; it needs to be tailored to the person.
Additionally, we have a fresh A-L-L initiative to incorporate cardiovascular hazard management to diabetes care. This states BG management is essential, but lipid management can also be crucial.   Cardiovasulcar complications associated with lipid abnormalities are among the greatest killers of diabetics. A combo of medications can really aid: Aspirin, Lovastatin, Lisinopril.
We’re targeting each diabetic over 55 and those with different complications, such as hypertension or coronary artery disease, and putting them on those three meds, that are shown to reduce cardiovascular disease by 20-30%. We see enormous impact already, because the complications of large BG show up much later, however, the cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke) generally show up within a few years.
Beyond this, we also possess an excellent proactive system of patient reminders for your next pap smear, next mammogram, etc.
DM) Kaiser got pretty beat up recently in the kidney transplant scandal. How is it working to restore patients’ religion in its care?
MM) I have to admit that we didn’t deal with this well. There is some irony in the sense that the true transplant care was good, but we snapped it with all the administrative section. We failed to get patients moved on the new waiting list in order of their current seniority. So individuals ended up in limbo on the receiver list.
What are we doing about it? Phasing out the transplant program. We brought the app in-house because we thought we could do much better job. But we’re admitting defeat within this field.
What we’re understanding is that individuals can’t deal with this sort of program without a significant administrative overhaul. So we’re shutting down that program till we’re sure can we get it done correctly. We’re not giving up on kidney care, but going back to utilizing outside contracted surgeons to run the transplant, at UC Davis and UCSF (that is how we did it previously).
DM) Finally, Kaiser’s unique capitation system (members pay a predetermined amount per covered “mind” per month) makes some people today think they’re barred from utilizing Kaiser unless their employer is contracted with the company. What’s the chance for individuals already diagnosed with diabetes to join Kaiser should they prefer?
MM) Many of the individuals who enter KP do come as a member of an employee group — especially if they have a pre-existing chronic condition, as as part of a team, they don’t need medical screening to join.
Should you apply as an individual, you do need to go through screening. And you may be denied or have limitations placed on your coverage, meaning you might need to pay for some remedies out of your pocket. And to be honest, some people likely do get rejected out of hand. That is a fantastic reason why the majority of folks look to work for a business offering fantastic medical insurance benefits.
DM) Dr. Mustille, what is your message into the diabetes community?
MM) I just feel that Kaiser is a very good location for those who have diabetes. A coordinated, organized system is the perfect method to look after a complex condition like this. So I’d say, if you’ve got access to Kaiser, then you should make the most of it.
You won’t hear that from many other health plans — asking possibly expensive members to join… but I’d say we do quite a good job with diabetes and people should make the most of it whenever they could!
Thanks, Dr. M, for giving us the provider perspective; we will all be curious to observe how Kaiser recovers by the latest scandals along with resignations. Ugh.
