was thinking about next-gen kids and decided to doodle a couple. elaborated thoughts below:

Iphis is named with the same naming conventions that Sally used when naming Percy - primarily, mythological figure who had a good fate. Nice for Percy to honor his mom by naming his own kid the same way and Annabeth gets a fun nerdy mythology name. Also sending good vibes to their kid. Plus middle name directly in honor of Sally, of course.

Specific myth is Iphis and Ianthe, with the idea that a.) it's gender-neutral so works regardless of kid's gender and b.) not only does Iphis have a good fate, but arguably nothing bad happens to them ever and they get helped out by like three whole pantheons who show up in a literal parade and they live happily ever after. Percy and Annabeth are pushing for the BEST vibes possible.

(Also I am a very strong proponent of the "I don't think they'd name their kids after dead family/friends" so none of them have that)

Iphis of course inherited the Jackson family early grey hairs <3

Virginia is named after Juniper (cause Juniper is specifically implied to be Juniperus virginiana). She's probably been childhood bffs with Iphis since Iphis was born.

Chuck is Chuck. I gave him a Yankees jersey cause you know he's being raised as a sporty kid.

Do you ever think about how OP Frank and Hazel's kid would be. It's ridiculous. Quadruple legacy, including 2/3 of the Big Three. Frank by himself was already so OP the gods had to nerf him. Hazel came back from the dead and Frank kinda just said "nope" to dying that one time. Hazel presumably has every power that Nico has which is. A lot. Not to mention what Hazel has been shown to just be able to do on her own (including but not limited to SINKING AN ENTIRE SMALL ISLAND). Ares/Mars kids can functionally be completely invulnerable sometimes and also have some limited necromancy. Combo that with Hades/Pluto kids also being hard to kill and having necromancy as one of their main powers. Not to mention how Pluto geokinesis might combo with Chloris (goddess of spring) powers? And this kid is 100% being protected by both Nico (who is probably a deity by that point) and probably Pluto himself as well? Hello?

Anyways Hazel and Frank's kid is a total powerhouse. Possibly functionally immortal. Easily strongest demigod of her generation.

I like to think the latent Chloris legacy would crop up (probably in combo with Mars and Poseidon's plant aspects) and give them an accidental Persephone-type theme and that's fun. Frazel's goth daughter who takes after her grandmother (and uncle).

Figured since Frank is Canadian and Hazel is from Louisiana they'd go for a French name. The flower theme was not intentional on their part it just happened. Law of demigod naming conventions appears nonetheless.

I figure Leo might not have kids of his own but he probably still hangs around with Hazel and Frank so of course he's going to make their kid a cool thematic robot pet. He's probably her godfather or something.

Ronan is literally just some kid who showed up at the Chase Space who coincidentally was a legacy of Freyr and could shapeshift. Magnus and Alex obviously can't have kids cause they're dead, BUT some orphan with essentially a combo of their powers just shows up on their doorstep? Their kid now.

The ironic part is of course their shapeshifting powers just happen to be because they're distantly related to one of Annabeth's friends. Ronan finds himself suddenly gaining two parents and two cousins (Iphis and Lily) in rapid succession.

He only picks up Magnus' last name though cause Alex has 100% disowned her mortal parents.

He has a seal flipper cause shapeshifting and apparently "Ronan" means seal. I just wanted to draw those two showcasing their shapeshifting a lil bit.

Might try to doodle the other next-gen kid thoughts I had at some point but idk when. anyways yeah.

this ask has been sitting in my inbox for about 39 years now but I have actually had a think about it so here I go

basically I think AU-ing anything into the DSMP would be incredibly challenging because it doesn't have many concrete universe rules. like we know hybrids and whatnot exist, we have the base universe of minecraft (minus the End ig) and the most defined part of the lore is the revival system which is a bit difficult to do anything with tbh

the way to make this interesting (and viable) would be to assign DSMP factions to the drivers and try imagining WHEN and WHY they would have chosen to align with those ideas and people (again this pretty much requires coming up with a new plotline which I'm a little too hyperfixed on the dbh au for atm) (you can pretty much reimagine the whole "plot" of the DSMP with the factions and main plotpoints being kept actually hmmmmmm just the relations changing. potential there.)

like imagine Landoscar (non-americans) with early L'Manburg meanwhile Logan is stuck outside. pure angst potential

my cTubbo (and cSchlatt and cDream) enjoyer brain also very very much wants to draw them as goat/deer hybrids because uhh yes. or just give them horns like the fandom did with cTommy

okay real question what happens when a hybrid character with horns gets revived. white horn maybe....

another big ol' questionmark would be how the drivers' lives could be adapted into the story. one thing that comes to mind is how Oscar moved to England alone at like 14, which my brain immediately associates with cTubbo. or Lando growing up as a shy kid with very little friends, very reminiscent of clingyduo in L'Manburg with the whole getting lifelong trauma thing

basically my thesis is that Landoscar (and Loscar actually) are clingyduo. I am not open to critiscism at this time (I actually am do please discuss this with me there's only a low chance I'll bite you)

I would point out that there is SO much angst potential with the whole L'Manbirg to Pogtopia and Manburg to everything that went on in the prison thing and I haven't even brought up cWilbur yet (the character and the person make me ill in such different ways urgh)

a thing (definitely one of my favorite things at that) about the DSMP is how EVERYONE is a main character depending on who you choose to follow, which is incredibly similar to how F1 works tbh so shockingly enough that's actually easy to adapt

another aspect I had a think about was dsmp character to driver associations which I honestly really want to do a questionnaire on and like make a research post about (someone actually did something similar to this about fandom to F1 pipelines go look at it it's very interesting)

my hypothesis is that associating single characters to drivers would be relatively simple (just a question of what role they play in their respective communities really, plus what vibes they give off lmao) BUT making those connections with groups/duos/trios/etc like actually reimagining the system would yield different results to singular associations. which is just a result of different environments having different ecosystems ig but it would be interesting to see nonetheless. in my brain some DSMP characters' roles would be filled by several drivers and some drivers would take on several roles at the same time which is absolutely fascinating to me

The Basics:

After coming into a dukedom unexpectedly, William falls out of touch with his friend's little sister, offbeat schoolteacher Phoebe. They next run into each other when she requests his help in getting out of an arrest—only to then beg him for more help after her favorite pupil goes missing. Will solving the mystery bring them back together, or is William too lost to his new status to accept Phoebe's "radical" perspectives?

The Review:

I really enjoy a childhood sweethearts romance, and this one has the perfect combo of wistfulness and longing. William doesn't even truly realize how much he wanted Phoebe until he's lost her (not that it's really his fault here—he didn't ask for the dukedom). There's a lovely chemistry between them, two people who clearly know each other and can get under each other's skin, while at the same time having this chasm of years between them.

That's where this book sparkles. In the little moments between William and Phoebe, the flirtatiousness after they've Done Stuff and he knows she's thinking about doing More Stuff. I also think it's really cool that Alex, Phoebe's sister, is William's close friend—as opposed to a brother, the way one typically sees with this trope. Alex is an interesting character, and I'd lvoe to see more of her and her romance.

However, the pacing was kind of slow, and I wondered why until realizing it was the same issue I see in a lot of historical romances right now. The couple is held apart for too long. And I don't mean romantically, I mean it takes a while before the book really commits to them being almost-constantly together. Which, for me, is when a romance really takes off.

I did know going into this that Phoebe would be a more political heroine, and that's totally cool for me. I mean, I agree with her politics. But her conversations with William seemed very... self-sacrificing, shall we say? A little holier than thou.

Will's issues were understandable in theory, but a little tired in reality. He has the weight of the dukedom on his shoulders, but also, he didn't really grow up with it on his shoulders. So why is it this big a deal to him on an emotional level? I never really got it. And the thing is that this is the conflict: Will doesn't really think that Phoebe is suitable as his duchess.

But why does he need a suitable duchess? Why does it matter that Phoebe isn't good enough~ for the role? I think Will was presented in a way that seemed like... at odds with him being an asshole? And everyone makes mistakes, but to me, you either commit to an asshole hero or you don't. I love an asshole hero. Will wasn't one, but I think I would've preferred it if he had been.

This is one of those books where I finished it and thought, "I liked a lot of that". The issues I had with it were few, just more noticeable than I'd lke.

The Sex:

Several explicit scenes, all well-done. I really liked the way that Phoebe approached sex, and I liked Will's reaction to her baldly asking for what she wanted... even more.

Not a home run but a solid book. I just think it would've been better if we'd had less focus on the characters' theoretical morals and beliefs, and more on the romance. Because the other two things are important! but we can't let them make the romance drag.

Nonetheless, if you're a fan of Evie Dunmore, I honestly think you'd love this. Similar bluestocking-y vibe with a somewhat starchy hero.

Favourite character I do think is Demona. She- hold on, I’m gonna ramble for a moment.

I really do love how they made her a tragic monster yet a monster nonetheless. She’s so miserable and lonely and most of her problems are her own fault but she CANNOT face up to that, how can she really face up to the immensity of what she’s done. So she runs, and she hides, and she blames everyone she can for the things she’s brought upon herself. What else can she do really? Her spite and hatred are the only things keeping her going and they keep her going for a thousand years. She won’t give it up for the man she loved and may still love, she won’t give it up for her daughter, she won’t give it up for her kind despite claiming to do it all for them. She lost herself in the mad dash away from her atrocities. She throws away any chance at happiness at the slightest possibility it may go poorly because she’d rather do so than risk it. Queen of cutting off your nose to spite your face. She was given a name, something gargoyles generally don’t have, by a human she grew to hate yet never gave the name up. I have her action figure.

(Also it is WILD to me that the writers found a loophole that allowed her to go on a killing spree of actual humans in a Disney cartoon)

Shout outs to Goliath, Elisa, Hudson, Angela and my BOY Bronx though. They’re also some of the favourites and honestly this is a show where just about every character I at least like.

As for story arc, hmm. Macbeth and Demona’s weird little dance comes to mind, and the City of Stone episodes were a big part of that. As well as that King Arthur just… shows up a couple of times. I’m also kinda partial to the first season which was largely just “will our heroes literally ever get a leg up on Xanatos?”

(The comics are pretty fun! If a bit rushed.) Hmm, I think I do want to know a bit more about the Illuminati and how they work in this universe. I’d like to see more of Alex’s growth and his dynamic with Lex. Oh! Also I kind of wish we got a bit more focus on Elisa and Broadway’s friendship. Same with Hudson and Robins. Also I would like to see more Sevarius popping up and somehow surviving whatever mess gets caused.

okay. so. the blonde identity. let’s talk about it.

TLDR; 3.5/5 stars, pretty disappointing, lots of failed character development and forced stereotypes

i have to admit, i went into this book with high expectations. like HIGH expectations. because c’mon, this is ally freaking carter. the woman has never written a book less than 3 stars in her life. but that’s exactly what this book was. like 3.5 stars. im sorry to say i was pretty disappointed.

i’ll spare you the sap-talk about how i discovered her middle school and became obsessed with her books and felt really touched when the TBI dedication page said For the GGs. I’m so proud of you because i am one of those gallagher girls! but. oh there are so many buts.

i feel like ally got so caught up in trying to make this book adult-y (since she’s only ever written YA and MG) that it kind of backfired on her. the first few chapters were great. the right dose of ally carter funny and cute. but after that it was a blur of inner-and-outer-dialogue that felt like balancing on this cliff of childish and adultish. the characters acted like kids sometimes and adults other times. like they couldn’t make up their mind.

speaking of childish, zoe (the fmc) reminded me of evangeline fox so much it was uncanny. and i don’t really mean that as a compliment. it was weird. ally usually writes like super badass fmcs, so i feel like when she tried writing a softie it came out all wrong.

also, can we talk about sawyer (the mmc)'s dad? like, are you serious? are you serious? he was the most un-ally-carter character in this entire book. being all like oh i loved your mother but i didn’t get to do anything properly so you should go get your happily ever after when you have the chance in front of you son and i think i visibly made a cringing face when i read it. i guess it’s fine, really, cause ally probably wanted to try out a new genre and i went in thinking it was her typical spy book but with an adult flare to it, so i was caught off guard.

regarding the romance itself: to me the relationship between zoe and sawyer in the middle to end-ish felt a lot like adam and juliette’s relationship in the shatter me series. huge promises and awkward and messy and wholly unbearable to deal with.

i cannot shake off the childish vibes i got from this book and its characters. like ally, i love you, but it was so-- like-- whiny. like she forced a lot of NA stereotypes and stuff into it.

don’t get me wrong though-- ally shines, like actually shines, in YA. after this i just don’t think NA is right for her (or maybe she just needs practice). nonetheless.

i LOVEDDDD the last line, though. “ ‘Long story short, I’m in an enemies-to-lovers situation.’ Alex took a deep breath. ‘And I think I’m gonna need your help.’ ” that was so good. and alex is the kind of sassy, uber-independent fmcs that ally is so used to writing so… here’s to hoping the sequel with her will be better.

What would be your ideal cast for the next generation in 2023?

hmm that's difficult mainly bc i really don't watch that many teen drama so i don't have a solid list of actors in the appropriate age range lmao but i love a challenge nonetheless so here we go!!

for wyatt i would kind of love to cast something of an already famous person to kind of really hit home the idea of Legacy tm but the issue is bc wyatt is so big in narrative he kind of just. gets less plot. so that actually might not work. so tbh really i think the move would lowkey be casting a nepo baby. honestly i would love wyatt russell (same name besties?!?!?) but he is just a shade old. if you've only seen him in falcon and the winter soldiers i am begging you to expand and see his cali babe range.... he's in black mirror, 22 jump street, ingrid goes west, lodge 49... babes. like. beyond that, charlie hall who was in sex lives of college girls as that like. really manic guy whitney went out with. and then third option but also on the older side would be alex roe who played the male lead on the tv siren that i think like. only five people watched (excluding myself: four). i think he could swing the necessary earnest energy.

parker and pj together kind of carry the emotional brunt of the cupitches mainly because peyton is so young it's just easier to defer to her sisters til she's old enough to properly shoulder the burden of a solo narrative. so w both pj and parker the actress needs to slay the solid exterior // cracks slip through; for pj that's the super cool capable princess form parker that's the badass unflinching warrior, both of them are hiding A Lot. so really, any of the pj castings could work for parker imo and vice versa. but some parker specific ones would be savannah lee may from julie and the phantoms, i love that she's kind of got like this baby faced nice energy but can play just like the mean girl. i would love that dichotomy w parker of someone who does not look violent always packing a knife you know? other than that: emma myers from wednesday, odessa azion, or emily alyn lind from gossip girl (tho between you and me eal is my personal fancast for penn)

for peyton she really is the baby of the family so again it would ideally probably be someone new to the scene bc they're so young but i think good existing options would be trinity likins who plays jellybean on riverdale or shay rudolph from the babysitters club.

1. descendants: rise of red

2/10.

very poor storytelling abilities created this story.

i love musicals, but the characters actually broke off into song for absolutely no reason throughout the film (e.g. rapping dialogue that could just have been dialogue)

they spent half the movie on intro, and then kind of forgot they had to write a good climax or conclusion

hated their decisions with how to use their cast (which i thought wasnt bad). why uliana and not ursurla? since when was morgana a popular disney villain? why did hook and morganas kid have no personality? why is chloe so boring?

2. taskmaster: series 4, series 8, series 9, CoC 1, CoC 3, series 15

• series 9: 10/10. very strong cast. almost everyone filled a specific niche of comedy that was thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. the cast also played off each other very well. ed gamble, in particular, is an absolute riot.

• series 4: 9/10. genuinely the most wholesome cast. they werent the wildest or most competitive, but their vibe was so pure and sweet its wholesome to watch. mel and hugh are huge softies. noel and joe are the chaotic cousins, and lolli the youngest.

• series 15: 7/10. i didnt expect to like series 15 as much as i did. casting was okay, though not particularly interesting. a stand-out cast member is ivo graham who had me laughing until my sides hurt. not a particularly memorable series, but not bad

• series 8: 5/10. ambivalent series for me, because i loved joe thomas' odd personality, but lou sanders and iian sterling made it unbearable sometimes. lou was genuinely annoying, and i had to skip through MANY scenes of her whining and being bratty. ian was wayy too competitive and aggressive. but at least he toned it down after seeing himself be that way on the big screen.

3. taskmaster NZ: series 2

• 10/10. i never wanted to watch any taskmaster spin offs after watching taskmaster US a few years back, but series 2 of TM-NZ might rank as one of the best series ever, even when up against TM-UK

• the cast and chemistry was excellent. they also had many memorable taskd like "find alex", the never-ending "float a brussel sprout" and "milk jugs on the microwave". i cant go a day without thinking about guy's greenscreen date with paul.

• i applaud the casting of jeremy and paul, too. for they were able to set the tone true to the original TM, while not exactly copying greg and alex. paul is a lot more quippy and sarcastic, and jeremy more deadpan. but all enjoyable, nonetheless

3. The Spirit of Radio (Permanent Waves, 1980) the guitar intro to this song is etched into my soul and will remain so until the day i die. bright, upbeat, joyous vibes. just what our little cringefail loser boys need.  ‘emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength, bearing a gift beyond price, almost free.’ 9/10

4. Tom Sawyer (Moving Pictures, 1981) this song has almost 300 million plays on spotify and for good fucking reason. if you’ve heard a rush song, chances are it’s probably this one. they ate and left no crumbs. none whatsoever. listen to it and tell me it wouldn’t absolutely FUCK as a goal song. go. do it. ‘he knows changes aren’t permanent, but change is.’ 8/10

5. Limelight (Moving Pictures, 1981) the fucking guitar intro. holy shit. this one’s got nearly 130 million plays on spotify, and is one of the other few rush songs you might’ve heard. would absolutely get me fired up, whether i was at home, or at the game. love this song. ‘those who wish to be must put aside the alienation, get on with the fascination, the real relation, the underlying theme.’ 9/10

6. The Big Money (Power Windows, 1985) this song has the potential to obliterate the eardrums of every corporate shitheel that wastes a seat at scotiabank arena, which is all we could hope for. this isn’t gonna be my manifesto about how much i hate the state of our ticket prices, but know that the rage runs deep and endless. ‘it's the power and the glory, it's a war in paradise, a Cinderella story on a tumble of the dice.’ 6/10

7. Time Stand Still (Hold Your Fire, 1987) let me start by saying i’m not one of those rush fans who hates hold your fire. in all honestly, i really enjoy it. that said, this is by far the best song on the album, and maybe the only one that could possibly be a goal song.  ‘freeze this moment a little bit longer, make each sensation a little bit stronger.’ 6/10

8. Superconductor (Presto, 1989) this is nowhere close to being a popular rush song, but it slaps and i adore it so you’d best believe it’s going on the list. orchestrate illusions, indeed, neil. wish this song got the recognition it deserves. makes me wanna DANCE. ‘packaged like a rebel or a hero, target mass appeal, to make an audience feel he really means it.’ 7/10

9. Face UP (Roll The Bones, 1991) banger alert!! this one’s got some fun keyboards in it (as do many rush songs, but i digress) which i think adds some Vibes to our lack thereof. this song makes me wanna get the W. ‘face up… hit the target or you better hit the ground. face up… there's still time to turn this game around.’ 6/10

10. Dog Years (Test For Echo, 1996) yes this song is actually about dogs!! we know our leafies love their pups, and i think this would pay a good homage to them (them: zeus, banksy, pablo, felix, etc.). also talks about geological time which is very much my vibe, and this is my list so i’m including it. could be like a reference to how long ago 1967 was, no? ‘it seems to me, while it's true that every dog will have his day, when all the bones are buried, there is barely time to go outside and play.’ 7/10

11. One Little Victory (Vapor Trails, 2002) the drums at the beginning of this song could wake me from the fucking dead. neil put his whole peartussy into this one. it’s fast, it’s intense, the guitar is sexy—and it’s about victory, which is something i would like to see more of from our leafs.  ‘celebrate the moment as it turns into one more, another chance at victory, another chance to score.’ 8/10

12. Caravan (Clockwork Angels, 2012) the intro to this song is kinda quiet, but i think it gets loud quick enough to still be a good choice. impeccable vibes though. think this could be a good morale booster, somehow. also has the fun misheard lyric of ‘in a world with only papaya’ which gives me a little chuckle. ‘the caravan thunders onward to the distant dream of the city, the caravan carries me onward.’ 5/10

13. The Wreckers (Clockwork Angels, 2012) i love the guitar in this. i mean, i love the guitar in all rush songs, but this one especially. the whole clockwork angels album is a masterpiece and should be listened to in order, but this one holds up great as its own entity.  ‘all i know is that sometimes you have to be wary of a miracle too good to be true.’ 7/10

14. Take Off (The Great White North, 1981) not technically a rush song, but bob & doug mckenzie are national treasures and this features geddy lee so i had to include it. the actual song doesn’t start until like 75 seconds in, but it’s so good that i don’t even care. best possible goal song, and it's not even close. ‘take off to the great white north. take off, it’s a beauty way to go.’ 10/10

idk if any of y’all listen to rush but i’m annoying and i think they have so many songs that could be iconic goal songs for our leafies…..
