Spoilers for Arcane Season 2 Act 3 (c8 specifically)

Okay so I've seen a lot of people being happy that we finally got a lesbian sex scene in Arcane and I totally agree but ngl I've watched it a few times now and every single time I end up crying because I just find it so beautiful. So I wanted to talk about it.

Like, it's not even the fact that the animation is amazing (I also LOVE the illumination, I think it feels so intimate) and the characters are beautiful, it's something about the way the scene is done. I find the sequence it goes through so smooth and staisfying: Vi being at one of her lowest points, Cait choosing to stand by her side thus proving her wrong, Vi wanting to kiss the hell out of Cait and Cait being all woried, Vi's "I don't fucking care", I DON'T FUCKING CARE, and when they actually get to it you can see that they're both slightly nervous and it's a bit akward because it's their first time having sex and that's how it usually is, but they just want to continue undressing each other and exploring each other's bodies. It's just so beautiful.

But also, the fact that we got to see this, the fact that after years and years we have two girls in an animated cartoon having sex and it's not portrayed in a way that sexualizes them. I was so scared that it would look like the CaitVi explicit fanart that's already up online, which is very clearly tailored to the male gaze (tbf, most of them are also based on the old character designs), but it doesn't, it's just two girls wanting to fuck each other but also being a bit nervous about it. And it's beautiful.

And while I'm at it let me tell you how HEALING it was to see Vi's body, which definitely doesn't fit current beauty standardards for women, and realizing that I find her even hotter than I do Cait (those shoulders could cure me). And I'm not trying to compare them at all bc I love them both and that'd be stupid, I'm just saying I'm thankful that the show helped me continue my slow but steady healing from years and years of diet culture bullshit and beauty standards. Tl;dr: Vi is so fucking hot I'm so gay for her.

Anyway, I won't stop watching that scene because it's healing and cathartic and I love it. Hope you enjoyed this rant :)

PD: The one thing I don't love is the music (although it's growing on me) bc hearing "American classics," "champagne," "plastic," and "God" in a world where none of those things are a thing takes me a bit out every time.

Sword (master)post

I own and use swords! I also realised I never posted about all of them in one place, hence this very long post with many pictures. Enjoy.

This is a side-sword made by Kvetun Armoury in 2018. It was my first sword and the only one I used for quite a while, including in tournaments, so it's really beat up - but still a beauty.

It's about 106cm long with a rather wide fullered blade and weighs 1300g, which is quite heavy - but most of it is centred around the wrist in the fabulous (and honestly wonderfully protective) complex hilt.

Here's how you hold it for maximum fine movement control and to avoid killing your wrist - one finger above the crossguard, aka fingering the guard. Trust, all the jokes have already been made.

Essentially, during a lot of the movements I typically do with the sword, most of its weight comes to rest on my index finger. You can also see my gloves are worn down from this in a few specific spots, and the grip itself has completely lost its red colouring in places.

This is the side-sword I got to take the place of the retired one up there: the Malleus Martialis model called Errant - The Flowing Dancer (gotta have a good, fancy name) from 2023. 104cm long, 1200g in weight - heavy, still with that complex hilt, but more sleek and streamlined now.

And... the same fingering.

Finally, a different kind of sword, though related - a rapier (and a pain to photograph).

This one is a Pappenheimer rapier, made by Bellatore in 2022. The model is called Vieira because of the clam theming, and it comes with a matching dagger for the off-hand. Just to demonstrate, this is a shot I took right after I got it in which you can see the really neat "clam" look:

The sword is 112cm long and weighs about 1100g. But because of the length, point of balance, and the amount of time you spend with your arm extended while using it, it feels much, much heavier than the other two. This is part of the reason why you would finger the guard with two fingers.

All of these swords can be used for both cutting and thrusting - but the rapier is much more thrust-oriented than the other two, and its blade is much more bendy. Obviously, though, the balance of this and techniques in general vary wildly depending on which source you draw from.

All of these swords are right-handed models, which is relevant, because all but the rapier are asymmetrical. They also have rounded/spatulated/rolled tips, for extra safety.

To conclude, I climbed on a chair to take a totally aerial shot of all of them (I am very short).

The only other two swords I own (for now) are significantly smaller - as in, a couple cm each. Both are the strongest blades in the world, however so fragile as to shatter when handled by any force other than the delicate touch of a lesbian.

-jayvik mutual destruction is so them actually, and I'm glad they were together in the end. also sorcerer older vik had to be my favourite of his character designs. he looks so soft and at peace

-ambessas death is really not something I though we would see, or at least not in the way that it happened. but it's almost bitter-sweet that her death was nesacary for Mel to graduate to wolf in her eyes

-look, heimerdingers sacrifice was cute and heartfelt, but I really didn't have any attachment to the guy and was just glad that ekko made it home. very cute little song though

-Jinx is fucking dead and I hate it. yes it was in character, she did her one last good thing and just wanted to rest, but damn why did it have to be like that , but on the other hand, it leaves open the spot for powder to take hold of the narrative, because don't think I didn't see those hextech gems girl. she is everything to me and I really hope she's apart of whatever story comes next (I'm praying that powder gets to see vi all grown up, and that her older sister is okay, and that vi gets to see powder, the girl she might have been, and also that vi can see her brothers all grown up) (but that's all just wishful thinking)

-btw!! I always had faith in the writers. I love how this season came out on the full. it's absolutely amazing to me how they have managed to create on of if not the highest quality animated TV show ever. it was admittedly rushed, and I would have loved to see all these plot threads tugged at thoroughly before being tied up, but I still think what we got was a masterpiece

-jayce I did not like you in season one but I loved you in season two, and I held out hope that we would see why you did what you did, and it was so fucking perfect I would like to kick all of the jayce haters, just a little in the shins

-back to Jinx, it was genuinely so heartbreaking to see her catatonic over the loss of Isha and I hope they're together again now

What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

Now that the main GSNK ships are finally seeing some progress (Waka knows Seo is Lorelei, Kashima and Hori Kiss, Nozaki realizing his feelings, Ryousuke and Miyako are together, etc), does anyone think Mayu and Mikorin have a shot at being canon??? I mean they’re relationship is absolutely set up in a way that is COULD happen plot wise, and the Manga is fruitier than a Jamba Juice, but they’ve been given so much less attention than the other ships ( that could also be because Mayu isn’t like a member of the main cast tho???) idk my hopes aren’t HIGH per se, but I feel like there’s a non zero chance! Like I’m sitting at a solid 7%

Sometimes i remember a comics moment i randomly came across somewhere, where Sam Wilson mentiones a musical and Steve Rodgers says he doesn't like musicals, to whitch Sam goes "Guess that means you really are straight" and even tho i don't care about Cap America or the Avengers, the moment stuck in me for that quote by Sam. And like....Sci, any ideas if straight men actually don't like musicals or is that bullshit?

actually i think i know more gay men who hate musicals than i know straight men who hate musicals. i've had a drag queen stop me point blank when i was about to sing a barbra streisand song, and i know so many gays who pointedly hate abba. so based on my experience i think the inverse is true. most of the straight men i know are kind of impartial about musicals, but gay men? hate.

my theory is that a lot of gay men don't want to fall into stereotypes, maybe. but thaaaaat's just a theory! a gay theory.

i've been thinking about the potential of ships with awl & fomt characters and honestly... the idea of cliff/matthew is really making me go 🤔

just 2 quiet dudes who struggle to strike up conversations and make connections due to their own self-doubt, slowly warming up to each other and finding someone who really understands them + they can lean on for support.
