First of all I want to state that I think Catherine Tate is a beautiful and attractive woman and a very talented actress.

However sometimes I wonder if they would have tried to find a way to keep Donna around if she would have been played by a younger, more conventional attractive actress like Karen Gillan or Jenna Coleman. Most of the New Who companions stayed at least for a couple of seasons after all.

They bent the story into the shape they wanted it to be after Ten regenerated anyhow, regardless if it made sense for the story or the character.

Having a pretty face and a model like body was more important than talent or chemistry. A practice I would like to say was a product of it’s time (early 2000’s and 2010’s), but I fear it is still the norm nowadays.

I definitely agree.

A product of its time, you say? More like the last 60 years of DW (100 years in TV in general), more like it, I'd say. Let's just say that certain actresses were not given the screen time they deserved, whereas the younger prettier ones sometimes got far too much.

When you lok at the reboot companions, the ones who didn't get a second series/season were Martha Jones, Donna Noble, and Bill Potts. The only older companions who bucked this trend were Graham O'Brien and Dan Lewis (to a certain extent). Now what are the similarities here.... hmm?

Clearly it is still okay to be older if you're a bloke, definitely not if you're a woman (of the same comedic standing, so they can't use that argument against Catherine Tate), or don't tick a certain physical wishlist box. Okay, I'm suggesting a type of racism.

None of these women are ugly; far from it. In fact they are beautiful - when allowed to be; like Pearl Mackie was in "Friday Night Dinner". I mean, I've heard loads of people say how gorgeous Donna looks in the 60th anniversary specials; and it highlights how pleased she is to be back with her best friend.

On a side note, were her boots a nod towards the Twelfth Doctor's footwear? Or was it only me who thought that?

Anyway, it's sickening that the old thinking of "something for the dads", where companions are concerned, is still given breathing room. That's why I wanted Sally Wainwright to take over as the show runner, because she picks female actors that can actually act and mesmerise us, rather than go for their youthful looks.

Even after all this time, we are left to roll our eyes and huff: "Men, eh?"

The manga industry, especially JUMP, needs to hurry up and do away with weekly scheduling for mangaka. There needs to better regulations put into place for their health and safety because this is pitiful. Two weeks - monthly updates should’ve already been the standard for the manga industry at this point. These money grabbers will only continue to put the lives of these artists at stake for the sake of capitalism unless some serious changes are implemented.
