I just saw Kamala Harris!
Someone posted on our local fb group that there were cops on every corner and that she was going to be at Ravinia but that was all I heard of it. I drove home and definitely saw the cops, and there were helicopters circling, and right after I turned onto my street, they closed the intersection!
So I was like, I will walk over there! so I walked over to ravinia and there was nothing doing, so I walked home, but then I was like, well I'll go check out the barricade (they close the streets with snowplows) and then I saw some cop cars speeding thorugh, and I was like, oh I bet she's coming! So I hurried and stood on the corner with a dad and his kid, and the motorcade was just coming through and we were waving and waving and then we saw her! You can see my absolutely insane liveblog of this on my instagram stories.
Then I was walking home and ran into my neighbor and it was a very fun and social event!
Kamala Harris for the People!
#I will say I did not like the cops and helicopters#that old fourth of july ptsd reared its head#I definitely think they should have sent out a community message about it#if you're new here I was at the highland park fourth of july parade when the mass shooting happened#so that was not fun#but I did see Kamala and that WAS fun!

The Doctor's In - Part 4
Summary: Wanda and R have their first date ;)
Wanda: Sorry I missed you before you left for work. Wanna come over for dinner with us?
Y/N: Would love to :)
âYouâre awfully cheerful for someone who just got dumpedâ Darcy says as you smile at your phone.
âWho got what?â
âCarol and MariaâŚâ
âNo one dump me, there was no relationship to endâ you say, locking your phone. You have noticed that Carol has been avoiding you, which is pretty idiotic, considering a lot of the trauma cases that come your way are ortho related.
That would also explain why Kamala rambled so much every time you requested a consult, so you made a note to speak to Carol about it.
âSoâŚâ Darcy ponders, and you wish sheâd just drop it. She snaps her fingers. âThe hot mom!â
âHer name is Wanda, and we are just talkingâ you refuse to look at her, knowing she can smell the bullshit from miles away.
âSomething tells me talking wasnât the only thing you did with your mouthsâ she insists, pulling on your sleeve.
âFine! We kissed and it was awesome! Happy, you little pestering gnome?â
âYes, lesbian whore. Congrats on securing a ticket to MILF paradiseâ
âFuck youâ
âDoctor Y/L/Nâ Kamala enters the room as you give Darcy the middle finger. âI can come back! Sorry!â
âLook what youâve doneâ you mumble as Darcy cackles. The joy doesnât last long, as you steal her chips. Sheâs too distracted making fun of you to notice.
âHey, not fairâ
You close the door and go after the resident.
âHey, Kamalaâ
âOh, hi. Doctor Danvers asked me to show you some X-Raysâ
âTell Doctor Danvers to show me herself. Or better yet, I will go directly to her. Where can I find her, Doctor Kahn?â
âUh⌠IâŚâ
âNever mind, Iâll ask Mariaâ you turn to leave and Kamala screeches in horror.
âOR 2. Sheâs in OR 2. Please donât do it, my Baba will never forgive me if I get kicked out of the programâ the young doctor clings to your arm.
âKamala. Get it together. Itâs gonna be fine. If Carol gets mad, you can be in my service for a weekâ you promise and she barely stops hyperventilating.
By the time you reach the OR, Carol is done with her surgery. She stops in her tracks when your eyes meet.
âDoctor Danvers, a word?â you ask, trying to sound professional.
âOf courseâ she nods. Leading you to an empty scrub room, Carol opens the door for you, fidgeting. âWhatâs up?â
âStop making everything so awkward. Iâm not mad at you. Kamala is about to have a stress induced stroke from all the consults you send her to avoid meâ
âYouâre really not mad?â Carol says.
âNo! I never expected anything else from you. We didnât talk about it but I always knew what your true feelings wereâ
âIâm sorryâ
âDonât be, honestly. Just, stop acting like you left me at the altar or some weird shit. Weâre colleagues and friendsâ
âThat makes me happy. I didnât want to stop talking to youâ she relaxes. âThough I have to be honest, I told Maria what happened between usâ
âIs she mad?â
âOnly a bit and just to me. Iâll manage to turn it aroundâ the blonde smiles, a dreamy look on her eyes.
âIf it helps, tell her I have a date on Thursdayâ you say, leaving the room, Carol right behind you.
âOh, let me guess. The hot mom?â she jokes.
âHer name is Wanda!â you repeat.
âWell, let me know how the date goes?â Carol pats your shoulder, and you nod.
âWill do. Now page your resident and tell her weâre all set before she gets admitted to the Psych wardâ
â
The footsteps approaching on the other side make your heart jump. You wonder if the flowers are too much, but when Wanda sees them, her face lights up and you know it was the right thing to do.
âCome on inâ Wanda says, taking the flowers and then standing on her toes to kiss your cheek. âThe boys are in the living roomâ
âWant some help with the food?â
âNo, Iâm almost done. It will be more helpful if you entertain the twins for a littleâ she says, pulling the flowers close to her chest.
âAlright, thenâ youâre about to kiss her when the boys walk in. Theyâre so excited to see you that they donât notice how close you are to their mother.
âY/Nâ Billy says, running towards you.
âHey, kiddosâ you pick them up, carrying them over your shoulder and they giggle. âCome on, thereâs a new game I wanna show youâ
You take your time to set everything up, explaining a bit about the game. They giggle as Crash jumps and turns in the sand of the first level, and you finish it all, including the tricky jump at the end.
âWho wants to go next?â
âMeâ Tommy says, sitting next to you. They are both focused on the game, so you take advantage of the distraction to go see Wanda.
Sliding into the kitchen, you grab her by the waist.
âYou scared meâ she laughs, allowing you to press against her back, kissing her temple. âWhatâs going on?â
âI have approximately fifty seconds before they ask for my help so Iâm making sure they countâ you turn her around and lean forward, capturing her lips and sighing against her mouth. âYou look very prettyâ
âThank youâ
âYou smell really niceâ you add, kissing her again, making Wanda laugh. âAnd I really, really, like kissing youâ
Wanda smiles at that, her hand caressing your cheek.
âY/N!â the boys chant in unison.
âLike clockworkâ you mutter, kissing Wandaâs forehead as you go back to the living room.
You spend a few more minutes playing with the kids, until Wanda calls everyone for dinner.
âHowâs the arm, kiddo?â you say, sitting next to Billy with Tommy and Wanda in front of you. As you take a bite of the chicken, you notice a funny flavor. âIs this broccâŚâ
Wanda widens her eyes and kicks you under the table.
âOuchâ
âYou ok?â Tommy asks, none the wiser.
âYeah, I just bit my tongueâ you lie, Wanda taking a sip of her water to hide her laugh.
âKids, eatâ she encourages them, and you get the hint. The flavor of the broccoli is hidden with the cheese, so you smile and continue to eat, enjoying every single bite.
âIâm on cleaning dutyâ you say as soon as everyone finishes, taking the dishes and cleaning the table.
Billy and Tommy run to the living room to continue playing, and as you get ready to wash the dishes, Wanda leans forward and kisses your cheek.
âItâs nice to have you hereâ
âYou have an odd way of showing it, Miss Maximoffâ you joke, leaning against her touch.
âIn my defense, itâs the only way to get them to eat their greensâ she jokes and you lean forward, your lips inches away from hers. In that precise moment, the boys call for her.
âBehaveâ she warns the children, pulling away to see what the fuss is about.
âHave you thought about boarding schools?â you joke and she pinches your side. âAh, kidding! I would miss them too muchâ
You load the dishwasher, clean the pots and put the rest of the food on some containers. By the time youâre done, the kids are getting ready to go to bed.
âCan you come over again tomorrow?â
âIf your mom wants me to, sure. I can bring the food this time so she takes a break from cookingâ you offer, smiling at Wanda.
âWeâll see about that, Y/N works hard enough as it is. Say goodbye to her, boysâ
Tommy and Billy wave at you, already dragging their feet. You stay on the living room, and a few minutes later Wanda comes down.
âHiâ she plops down next to you and you smile.
âAll good?â
âA bit tired, thatâs all. Just ignore me, youâre the one that works all those crazy hoursâ
âNah, itâs fine. Iâm used to it by nowâ you shrug your shoulders.
âWould you like some wine?â
âSure, I donât have work tomorrowâ
âHow come?â Wanda asks when she returns, handing you a glass of red wine and sitting closer to you on the couch.
âWell, I have a really hot date coming up and I need to plan every detailâ
âShe sounds like a lucky girlâ Wanda blushes, biting her lip.
âOh, Iâm the lucky oneâ you say, placing both of your glasses on the coffee table. âSheâs smart, funny, has legs for days, cooks amazing foodâŚâ
âStopâ she laughs, and you shake your head no. Wanda is still laughing when you connect your lips with hers, a sigh leaving her mouth when you lift her and place her on your lap, her legs straddling you.
âIs this ok?â
âYeahâ she nods, leaning her forehead against yours. âMore than ok. As a matter of fact, I remember reading that kissing is good for your healthâ
âItâs so goodâ you say, your lips traveling to her jaw, behind her ear, down her neck. âIâd say do it as often as possibleâ
âDoctorâs orders?â Wanda jokes, her voice faltering as you come back to her mouth, your tongue swiping across her bottom lip.
âDoctorâs ordersâ
â
The plan is coming along. You have the tickets for the exhibit and the next thing on the list should be the dinner reservation. Your pager beeps the minute you call the restaurant.Â
911.
âShitâÂ
You sprint to the car, knowing no one would call you outside of work if it wasnât serious.Â
âWhatâs wrong?â you walk to the ER, looking around.
âWhat on Earth is this?â Tony Stark, neurosurgeon and professional asshole gets in your face the minute you get there.
âI donât know, Iâve been off work since yesterday, Starkâ you take the chart, reading all the information until you get to the signature. The writing got progressively worse, until it was just senseless lines.
âThis person was clearly having a stroke, and the staff didnât notice. I have to scrub in and see if I can save his lifeâ
âAnd youâre wasting time arguing with meâ you roll your eyes, pushing the chart to his chest and walking to the OR.
âWhere do you think youâre going?â
âTo scrub in. If you want to blame me, thatâs fine. Iâm staying by this patientâs side until he pulls throughâ
âIf he pulls throughâ Stark says angrily and you ignore him.Â
Before scrubbing in, you check your phone.
Wanda: Is everything ok? I saw you leaving in a hurry.Â
âBy all means, take your timeâ Stark says, glaring as he walks by you.
You spend the entire surgery in his OR, standing still and doing everything he asks. Heâs a rude, pretentious cunt, but if anyone can work a miracle, itâs him, so you suck it up and take every snide comment with a blank stare.
After hours working, Tony sighs, nodding at his work.Â
âClose him, Parker,â he asks his resident. You stand watching the young manâs work, until the surgeon asks you to come with him.
âIâm sorryâ he blurts out the minute you step out. âThis wasnât your patient, nor your responsibility. And I made it seem like it wasâ
âItâs still not right. If I had been here, I would have noticedâ
âI know. Your work is impeccableâ he acknowledges and you nod. Even if heâs an ass, this is the hospital his father built, and heâs a genius with years ahead of you in experience.
âWill he be alright?â
âThereâs a good chance heâll pull through. Letâs be cautiously optimistic. Iâll let Parker explain everything to the family. Sorry for interrupting your days offâ
âNot a problemâÂ
âItâs the first time youâve taken PTO in 3 years. Furyâs gonna have my head for making you comeâ Tony says, laughing.
The patient is moved to the ICU, but youâre still not comfortable leaving, so you go back to the on-call room, sitting in a bed to gather your thoughts. Yelling in the hallway makes you stand up, watching as Parker tries to speak to a man and his wife.Â
âYou discharged him, said he was fineâ the man yells, pointing at Peterâs face.Â
âSir, I can assure you, weâre doing our best to make sure your sonâŚâ
âWe wanna see him nowâ the man takes Peter by his coat, almost lifting him off the ground. The young man stutters, not knowing how to deescalate the situation.
âHey, thatâs enoughâ you step in, not realizing the man is about to throw a punch until you make him drop Peter, his elbow connecting with your cheek.
âCrap, Doctor Y/L/N, are you ok?â Peter says, rushing to your side.
âYeah, fineâ
Fucking fantastic.Â
âSir, Iâm going to ask you to wait in the foyer, or Iâll call securityâ Carol steps in, glaring at the man. She waits until heâs gone, muttering an apology your way. âYou ok?â
âMhm, greatâ
âI thought you had a few days offâ
âYeah, me tooâ
âCome on, letâs have a look at that punchâ Carol says, dragging you to one of the exam rooms. You sigh, trying to keep your eye closed. âNo stitches neededâ
âGreatâ you mumble, pulling out your phone. Thereâs like five messages from Wanda but before you can answer, she calls you.
âHeyâ
âHey, are you ok? You had me worriedâ
âYeah, there was a thing at the hospital and I⌠ouch! Carol, a little warning?â you hiss as the blonde pours some disinfectant on the bruised skin.
âOh, I didnât know you were busyâ Wanda says, her demeanor changing. âIâm sorry, Iâll leave you aloneâ
âWait, Wanda!â you say but itâs too late, the call cut off. âGod, could this day get any worse? I have to goâ
âWant me to drive you there?â Carol says with a smile and you roll your eyes.
âYeah. That will make Wanda so happyâ
âWhippedâ Carol jokes and you try to glare, but it hurts your eye.
Wanda barely put the kids to bed, when she hears a knock on the door. Sheâs prepared to give you an attitude but then sees your swollen cheek.
âOh, my God, what happened to you, are you ok?â the brunette says, immediately forgetting sheâs mad at you.
âItâs a long story. But that doesnât matter. Listen, I know how it seems, I tell you Iâm busy and when you call me Iâm with Carolâ
âI know you work together. Itâs fineâ Wanda lies.
âNo, itâs not, come onâ
âOk, just come in and explain everything while I get you some ice, ok?â
âThanksâ you mutter, sitting at the kitchen counter. You fidget with your hands, not looking up until Wanda comes closer, her eyes soft as she moves the hair out of your face.
âColdâ she warns, placing a compress against your skin. You sigh with relief, holding her hand close.
âIâm sorry. I was called in to fix something I didnât breakâ
âDonât apologize for doing your job, Y/Nâ she says in a soft voice. âIs everyone ok? Is that how you got hurt?â
âEveryoneâs ok. The parents were just pissed and I tried to break the fightâ
âDoes it hurt?â Wanda pulls the compress and examines the skin. Itâs a little bruised, but not too swollen.
âIt will laterâ you sigh.
âAnything I can do to help?â
âYou can kiss it betterâ
âIs that what Carol was doing earlier?â Wanda tilts her head, a dangerous look in her eyes that sends shivers down your spine.
âOh, come on! Not fair!â
âIâm kiddingâ she says, finally kissing you softly. You close your eyes, relaxing for the first time in 12 hours. âIâm sorry for giving you a hard time, you were saving livesâ
âWhat you feel is valid. Donât apologize for it, ok? Iâll always listen to you, I promiseâ you kiss her hand, smiling when she blushes. âWeâre still up for our date, right?â
âWe can reschedule, you must be exhaustedâ
âNot a chanceâ you say, pulling her closer again. âIâve been waiting too long for thisâ
âWell, alright. If you insistâ she pecks your lips and you nod.
âI doâ
âI have an⌠odd requestâ she says, avoiding your eyes.
âI wonât kink shame you, I promiseâ
âCan you be serious for just a second?â Wanda laughs, taking your hand. You make a motion to keep quiet, and let her speak. âCan you⌠pick me up around the block?â
âI can. But why am I doing it?â
âFirst of all, if the kids see you, theyâll want to tag along. And also⌠Iâm not trying to be pessimistic here, I just want to protect them. Itâs been the three of us since they were born and Iâve never even dated anyone, let alone someone they knowâ she takes a deep breath, hoping you wonât get upset.
âBilly and Tommy come first, alwaysâ you nod. âI agree to the new rule, or I can wear glasses and a fake mustacheâ
âNopeâ she shakes her head, covering your mouth with her hand.
âA bald cap thenâ you mumble against her palm.
She figures the only way to make it stop is by kissing you and she leans forward, her lips against yours. You smile dreamily as she pulls apart.
âNow. Would you like some dinner?â Wanda offers, and you almost drop to your knees.
âGod, youâre so fucking perfect, Wanda Maximoffâ
The way she blushes and giggles makes up for all the shitty things that happened in the past hours.
â
âThereâs food and snacks, a list of phone numbers on the fridge in case of an emergencyâ
âYes, Mrs. Maximoff,â Morgan says, following the woman around the house. Itâs her first time babysitting the twins, but Wanda has known the girl since she started giving her private art lessons and trusts her.
âBoys, Iâm leavingâ Wanda calls, the kids standing up from the table to hug their mom goodbye. âBe good to Morgan, ok?â
âWhere are you going?â Tommy asks.
âA work thingâ she lies, feeling terrible about hiding the truth from the twins. But still, she knows itâs for the best to keep this private.
She waves goodbye one last time and walks past the house, noticing your car is no longer in the driveway. Her heart beats fast at the expectation of an evening together.
âHey, gorgeousâ you greet, leaning against the passenger door. âYou look absolutely stunningâ
You admire how amazing she looks in a pair of jeans, a white tee and a long sleeve sweater.
âSo do youâ she kisses you, smiling as you open the door to the car.
âThanks, the purple eye gives my look a nice touchâ you say as you begin the drive.
âAre you gonna tell me where we are going?â
âYouâll find out soon enoughâ you say, hoping she likes the surprise. âFirst stopâ you announce, opening the car door for Wanda and looking at the building in front of you.Â
âArtechouse. Oh, Iâve heard about thisâ Wanda nods, intrigued.
âI did too, but never made the time to go. Come onâ you lead her to the entrance, showing your tickets. âThereâs a small bar if you wanna have a drink before we go inâÂ
Letâs go in nowâ she says, looking everywhere.Â
You think itâs a good sign that sheâs so interested in the exhibit, so you lead her to the start, both of you gasping as you enter a room that is projecting videos of flowers from floor to ceiling. Wandaâs hand searches yours in the dark, and you smile shyly as she holds it, walking around the room.
The intimacy of the place allows you to come closer, sharing everything you see in a low voice and enjoying the show.Â
âCheck this outâ you say, lifting your arm, the animation following your movements. Wanda lets out a laugh, doing the same.
Each room enchants Wanda even more, the next installation featuring plants that react to the touch with light and sound. Your favorite by far is the tree that reacts differently if youâre holding hands or hugging. As you walk up to it, Wanda is still holding your hand and you both look at the screen. Well, sheâs looking at the projection and youâre looking at her, thinking how beautiful she is.Â
Taking a step forward, your arms go around her waist and you smile, admiring how the images change.
âItâs beautifulâ Wanda whispers, turning to you. âYouâre not lookingâÂ
âI have the best view right in front of meâ you smile, happy when she kisses you softly.
Wanda takes her time examining everything and once sheâs done, you walk to the exit.Â
âThat was amazing. I forgot how much I enjoy these things. Thank you, Y/Nâ
âGlad you liked itâÂ
âBest first date Iâve had,â she smiles.
âOh, this is only the first part. You donât really think Iâd forget about the food, right?âÂ
âWhere are we going?â
âWell, thereâs a very fancy option but I donât feel like going with this thing on my faceâ you point at the bruise, annoyed. âIf youâre feeling adventurous we could try something different?âÂ
âYou look perfectly fine, darlingâ she kisses your cheek. âBut Iâm up for an adventure, so lead the wayâÂ
âAwesomeâ you hold her hand, walking down the street and away from the museum. This is your favorite part of town, close to the pier and the little shops that are open until late.Â
You walk down the promenade, showing Wanda some of the places you love. Thereâs a small gallery, a cafe, and other shops.Â
âWeâre hereâ you announce, pointing excitedly at the kebab shop. âThis is fine, right? We can still go to the fancy place if you likeâ
âSorry this place isnât fancy enough for you, Majestyâ the owner pops out of nowhere, scaring you.
âSamir! Thatâs not what I meant. You know I love your foodâ
âMhmâ he glares, but then smiles at Wanda. âWhat can I get for you, angel?â
âWell, whatâs good here?â Wanda wonders, not as familiar with the dishes. âMaybe a shawarmaâÂ
âHow about a kebab box, fries to share and a donerâ you suggest, âAnd her shawarma, of courseâÂ
âThatâs a lot of foodâ she protests and you shrug your shoulders.
âIâm always eating leftovers before I leave for work so itâs fine, babeâÂ
âOh, wellâ she wants to scold you about your eating habits, but the pet name makes her dizzy.Â
You pay and lead them to a small table outside, unaware of Wandaâs flustered state. You hand over a soda and open your can, taking a sip.
âWe can go to other art shows whenever you want, you know? Even if I donât understand anything, I do enjoy watching youâ you smile, laughing as Wandaâs cheeks go red at the comment.
âI did enjoy it, thank you. You come here often?â
âI do, I love the food here. Samir noticed I came late because of my shifts and he always saved me some food. Nice fellaâ you turn to make sure heâs not listening. âBut I promise Iâll take you to dinner to that other place when I donât look like a raccoonâ
âYou donât have toâÂ
âI kinda want to see you in a dress, all fancy like that time you left for another dateâ you smile at the memory of how beautiful she looked.
Wandaâs heart bursts with the way you look at her, complete adoration in your eyes. Sheâs almost left speechless, but her phone saves her.Â
âItâs my brotherâ she apologizes, taking the call. âHi, Pietro. No, Iâm not with them. Because, Iâm out. Of course with a babysitter, stupidâ she rolls her eyes, and then switches to a language that you donât understand, but sounds like Russian. You look at her in awe, until Samir calls for you to get the food. By the time youâre back at the table, Wanda already hung up.
âSorry about thatâÂ
âNo, donât worry. I guess I never asked, but are you Russian?â
âSokovianâ she corrects. âWe moved to the States when Pietro and I were tenâÂ
âWow. I never⌠you donât even have an accentâÂ
âIt slips up from time to time, especially if Iâm angry or⌠flusteredâ Wanda says, and you almost choke on the food, thinking of all the ways you could make it come out.Â
âOh, wellâ you clear your throat. âIs your brother ok?â
âYeah, he wanted to ask the boys something about video games that I donât understand. Iâm sure you wouldâÂ
âI donât know, my knowledge is limited to things that existed when I was a kid. Howâs the food?â
âAmazing. Wowâ Wanda says, pleased with the flavor of the meat and how it compliments the rice and dips.
âSee? Weâre good enough for a first dateâ Samir shouts from the kitchen.
âStop listening to our conversationâ you shout back and he grumbles. Wanda smiles, thinking of something sheâs wanted to ask for a while now.
âDo you ever visit your family?âÂ
âNo, not reallyâ you shake your head. âI pretty much left for college and never returned. Except this one Christmas, where I was feeling kind of lonely and tired. I just wanted to be home, but everything was so different, my half siblings were just too much to handle for anyone⌠and I didnât even know what to do, no one bought me a present because I was never around and they just thought Iâd be gone like last yearâ
âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have askedâŚâ
âItâs fineâ you shrug your shoulders. âI know itâs weird, but I like my life, you know? My colleagues are great, Iâm doing what I love⌠and if I hadnât moved here, I wouldnât have met youâ
âYeah, thatâs true. Itâs their lossâ Wanda smiles, kissing you. You smile against her lips. âYou can always spend the holidays with us, you know? I mean, itâs too soon to talk about it, Iâm just sayingâ
âThat would be niceâ you interrupt her rambling. âNow, I have something very important to ask. Out of all the neighbors, which one is the most annoying and why?â
âWell, Iâd say itâs⌠Agathaâ
âHarkness! Yes! I knew you disliked her tooâÂ
Wanda laughs and you keep the conversation going. By the time youâre done, you pay and leave a big tip for Samir, who gives you a hug as you leave the store.
âIâm so fullâ Wanda says, patting her stomach.Â
âI know. Oh, you want ice cream?â you say, remembering the gelato store that is a few shops ahead.Â
âYou just said you were full!â
âItâs ice cream, come onâ you take her hand, and pay for two cones. Wanda orders strawberry while you opt for chocolate.
âHow is it?â you ask as you walk down the pier, enjoying the view.Â
âAmazing, have someâ she offers the cone, but you kiss her instead. âThatâs not what I meantâ Wanda laughs against your lips.
âWell, it tastes amazing to meâ you say, leaning forward and chasing after her soft lips, the flavor lingering as you deepen the kiss. Wanda sighs against your mouth, pulling you closer until your hand goes down her waist. âBest ice cream Iâve ever hadâÂ
âYeahâ Wanda nods, her eyes closed. You peck her lips one last time, and continue your walk, still talking about everything you can think of, enjoying each otherâs company.
When she checks the time more than once you get the hint, ready to go home.
âIâm sorry, Iâm just being annoying, we can stay longerâÂ
âItâs ok, I know you like to be home early. Come on, we can drink wine or Iâll let you go to bedâ
You rest your hand on Wandaâs leg for the entire ride home, unaware that your touch is making the woman restless. When youâre close to your house, you stop exactly where you picked Wanda up.
âI can just park at home, right? The boys are probably asleepâ
âYeahâ Wanda nods, flustered. Youâre about to ask whatâs wrong when she moves forward, pulling you down for a rough kiss that takes your breath away. Itâs a bit messy and desperate, and you ignore the strain of your seatbelt as Wanda pulls you closer to her, sighing against your mouth.
âYou canât park here!â an annoying person knocks on your window and you both break apart. âOh, my! Wanda? Doctor Y/L/N?â
Damn it, itâs Agatha Harkness. Your nosy, annoying neighbor. Rolling down the window and smoothing your clothes, you smile at her.
âHey, Miss Harkness. Sorry, Iâll move right nowâÂ
âNo, donât worryâ she gives you a sly smile. âHave a good night, you two love birdsâ
âNight, Agathaâ Wanda says and you turn on the car, finally parking in your driveway.
âThat was funâ you comment, opening the door for Wanda and crossing the street to walk her home.
âYeah, just our luckâ Wanda laughs, taking your hand. âWanna come in? Or do you have to work tomorrow?â
âNot until Saturday. Come onâ you let her lead you to her house, opening the door as quietly as possible. Wanda sees Morgan at the kitchen table, doing her homework.
âHow did everything go?â
âGreat, they went to sleep an hour agoâÂ
âMorgan Stark?â you greet, closing the door behind you.Â
âYou two know each other?â Wanda says.
âYeah, my parents work at the hospital with Doctor Y/L/Nâ Morgan says, waving at you. âNice to see youâÂ
âDid you drive here? Or want me to take you home?âÂ
âItâs fine, I drove hereâ she says, and you hand over some money before Wanda can pay her.Â
âDrive safely, ok? Donât want your dad giving me crap on the next meetingâ
âWill do. Good night, Miss Maximoffâ
âNight, Morganâ
âYou didnât have to pay for that tooâ Wanda says, kissing you. âBut thank youâÂ
âAnytime. How do you know Morgan?â you nod when she offers you a glass of wine and you walk to the living room with her.
âIâm giving her private art lessons. Sheâs really good. Had no idea her parents were doctorsâ
âNot just any doctors, babyâ you say, taking a sip. âTonyâs father built the hospital we work in. And heâs done some amazing research in neurosurgery. Pepper is also one of the best plastic surgeons in the worldâÂ
âWow, Morgan is so sweet and down to Earthâ
âShe gets that from her mom, Tony can be an assâ you mutter and Wanda laughs. âSo, did I secure a second date?â
âA third one as well. But only if I can pay for the next oneâ
âNu-uh. Iâm spoiling you, babyâ you say, your hand going to her leg. You notice how Wandaâs cheeks turn red, and youâre not sure if itâs the nickname or the contact. âCome hereâ
You take her glass of wine, approaching her slowly and kissing her. Itâs tender at first, but then your hands travel to her lower back, and Wanda moans against your mouth. You deepen the kiss, sighing when she pushes you on your back, climbing on top of you.
Wanda kisses down your neck, biting slightly. The sudden nip makes your hips jolt forward, and she has to hold back another moan.
âI donât know how you do itâ she says, shivering when your hands travel down and cup her ass through her jeans.
âDo what, baby?â
âDrive me crazy with just one touchâ
âLet me take care of youâ you ask, kissing her, your hands going all the way to the front of her pants.
âMom?â
âShitâ she mutters, both of her hands covering your mouth. âWhat is it, sweetheart?â
âIâm thirsty,â Tommy says.
âAlright, donât come down, Iâll be right there, ok?â she says, hoping the boy hasnât noticed anything strange. But heâs too sleepy so he just agrees and returns to his room. âIâm sorryâ
She removes her hands from your mouth, helping you up.
âItâs fine, I enjoy the choking but just give me a heads upâ
âStopâ she says, blushing. âIâll be right back. Unless, you want to go? Iâm sorryâ
âI can stayâ you nod, smiling at her disheveled state.
âAlright, Iâll be backâ Wanda promises, pecking your lips.
You sit up, fixing your hair and taking a sip of the wine to calm down.
âEverything ok?â you say as Wanda comes down. She nods, smiling and sitting next to you.
âYeah, I just didnât think theyâd be up. Maybe⌠we could wait a bit? When Iâm not worried about the boys walking in on anythingâ
âOf course. Come hereâ you open your arms, and she settles, leaning her head against your shoulder. You kiss her temple. âWanna watch some tv?â
âWhat about a sitcom? I love watching thoseâ
âLike Friends?â
âLike Bewitched or⌠The Dick Van Dyke showâ she says and you laugh, completely caught off guard by the suggestion.
âYouâre fascinating, Wanda Maximoffâ you say, handing over the remote, ready to watch whatever she wants.

The Boss -(long) Oneshot
Word count: 9284 This one got away from me... sorry. Hope you like it, tho!
Part 2 Part 3
Y/N smiled as she stared up at the huge high rise building. It was her first day working at Avengers Legal, the offices of Barnes, Rogers and Stark. She had been really lucky to find an opening as one of the head lawyersâ personal assistants, she just didnât know which one yet. She had a little background in law, but didnât go to law school, as much as that killed her parents. A little bump in the road in the shape of her now ex boyfriend had derailed that future, and after freeing herself she was now working on her fresh start. She followed the instructions from the head of HR that she had been in contact with, and walked out of the elevator to the smiley woman sitting at the reception desk.
âHello, how can I help you?â she asked in a chipper tone.
âHi, my name is Y/N Y/L/N. Itâs my first day?â Y/N said.
âOh! The new personal assistant! Yes, Pepper told me,â she said happily. She stood and held out her hand. âMy name is Kamala Khan. Receptionist.â
âKamala, thatâs beautiful,â Y/N complimented her, and Kamala smiled even wider. Â
âYouâre sweet. I like you already,â Kamala said. âFollow me.â She moved around the desk and walked ahead of Y/N towards the hallway to the right. âNow I donât know which partner youâre working with,â she said lowly, sidling up to Y/N. âAnd please donât let this scare you off, but each of them work differently.â Â
âOkay,â Y/N said, speaking quietly as well.
âIf you get Steve, thatâs the Rogers part, heâs a sweetie. Super friendly. If you get Tony, the Stark part, heâll tease and make fun of you, heâs very sarcastic, and sometimes heâll flirt or compliment you like crazy, but itâs never gross and he means nothing by it. Heâs married to Pepper.â Y/N nodded, intaking all the information as best as she could. âThen thereâs James, the Barnes part. Heâs the more serious of the three. Friendly, but busy, very professional and no-nonsense. He likes things done quickly and efficiently. If he lets you call him his nickname, Bucky, then you know youâre in the inner circle.â
âInner circle?â Y/N asked as Kamala stopped in front of a door that read Pepperâs name and title.
âItâs like the main team of Avengers Legal,â Kamala said, nearly whispering. âThe partners, their top legal assistants that get to have the most fun or high profile cases, and only the best personal assistants. Those are the ones that get to travel with them, and usually get to network with top of the line people in the industry. It opens a lot of doors,â she said, raising her hand to the door. âSo good luck with whoever you get.â
Y/N nodded as Kamala finally knocked. âCome in!â a voice called out. Kamala opened the door and gestured for Y/N to enter first. âY/N! Welcome,â Pepper said and stood from her desk.
âHello, itâs good to see you again,â Y/N said, walking over and shaking her hand.
âThank you, Kamala,â Pepper called out behind her, and Kamala smiled and closed the door. âIâm sure she gave you all the beginnerâs gossip,â Pepper smirked as she sat back down and gestured for Y/N to sit at the chair in front of the desk.
âYes, she did,â Y/N huffed a laugh. Â
Pepper rolled her eyes. âThe partners are all just overworked, typical men. Not nearly as special as they like to think they are.â Y/N bit back a smile. âThat being said, after reviewing your profile and discussing things with them, I think youâll be best fit with Mr. Barnes.â Y/N felt a little trepidation at that from what Kamala had said, but nodded. âHeâsâŚquiet,â Pepper said, choosing her words carefully. âBut honestly one of the best attorneys in the state. He runs a tight ship, and expects the best out of anyone working under him. If they disappoint him, he can have quite a temper, but heâs normally very friendly.â
âAre you trying to convince me to back out?â Y/N asked with a smile.
âNo! God no, please stay,â Pepper said, waving her hands in front of her. âIâm just trying to forewarn you. Heâs had a hard time keeping a personal assistant for the last few years.â
Y/N nodded. âAnd he is aware that Iâm not a paralegal?â
âYes,â Pepper nodded back. âWe donât blur lines when it comes to personal assistants versus legal assistants.â
âThen Iâm ready,â Y/N said.
She signed the contract for her employment, then Pepper gave her a tour of the office and had her meet the teams and other partners. Finally they walked into the office that had his name on it. âBuck? Iâd like to introduce you to your new personal assistant,â Pepper said as she held the door open for Y/N. Y/N walked in and took a quick look around at his office before her eyes landed on him sitting in the desk chair. She had to stop her eyes from widening when she met his gaze. That is the most beautiful man Iâve ever seen.
âMeet Y/N Y/L/N. Y/N, this is Bucky. Oh!â Pepper rolled her eyes. âIâm sorry, James.â
Bucky narrowed his eyes at Pepper but gave her a teasing smirk. âThanks Pepper,â he said in a dismissive tone. Â
Pepper scoffed then squeezed Y/Nâs upper arm. âCome see me before you leave today.â
Y/N smiled and nodded at her and Pepper walked out, closing the door behind her. Y/N took that short moment to look him over. Tall, broad shouldered, and from what she could see, built under his suit that was impeccably tailored to him. His dark brown hair was long and tied back in a small man-bun, which was surprising as a lawyer, but that coupled with his full beard offset the austerity of his suit and made him seem approachable. His bright blue eyes were looking her over, too, like he was sizing her up. It was an intense stare, and she had to stop herself from shrinking under his gaze.
She took the initiative and walked forward to his desk. âItâs nice to meet you, Mr. Barnes,â she said, offering her hand to him.
Bucky looked at her hand then back to her face, his hand reaching forward as he smiled politely. âItâs nice to meet you,â he said, shaking her hand firmly. Y/N made sure to be firm in her grip with him, and his smile slightly widened. âTake a seat, and we can go over what it is I expect from you.â
Y/N sat and took out a notebook and pen from her bag, getting comfortable in her seat then looking up at him expectantly. Bucky seemed to be watching her carefully, and she could start to see a small tell in the type of smirk he gave as to how he was feeling. The wider smirk he gave Pepper was a friendly one, whereas these small ones as he greeted her were when he was impressed with something or pleasantly surprised. They had a good, long discussion about what it was he wanted, how he liked to work with others, his normal routine and the possibility of travel at times, but she wouldnât hold her breath for that.
âThatâs about everything I can think of,â Bucky said. âAny questions?â
âYes, whatâs your favorite drink order?â Y/N asked as she finished jotting down her last notes.Â
Bucky scoffed. âMy favorite drink order?â
Y/N smiled. âJust in case.â
His impressed smirk came back. âLately itâs been sweetened matcha.â
âSweetened with what?â Y/N asked.
âSurprise me,â Bucky said.
Y/N smiled widely. âYes sir.â
Bucky frowned. âNo sirs. Mr. Barnes in front of clients, otherwise Bucky is fine.â
She beamed at him for accepting her so quickly. âAlrightâŚBucky.â
***
This job was a baptism by fire. Y/N was thrown into work life with Bucky, accompanying him all around the city, taking endless notes in meetings and relaying messages to his legal team. Per Buckyâs request she became close with all the assistants on his legal team, learning the process of working on a case and seeing how they all worked together. She also scheduled everything in his personal life, making sure he was getting to doctor's appointments, picking up the dry cleaning, making sure the house cleaner was on time, taking personal phone calls during the work day, and handling anything else she could anticipate for him.Â
Kamala was right, he was very particular and wanted efficiency above all else. He didnât like people wasting his time, and expected everyone to be at their best while at work. There were times Y/N would catch him having a casual moment with one of the other partners, Steve, who was his best friend from childhood. He would laugh at something Steve said and sheâd be gifted with the sight of his full, real smile that he rarely gave anyone. That being said, as the months went by he was opening up to Y/N, teasing her, making jokes and even at times bordering on flirtatious.
Steve was still looking for a new personal assistant, since his previous one, Peggy, he just so happened to start dating seriously, and since they struggled to differentiate work versus their personal lives she had resigned. Every once in a while Bucky would lend Y/N out to Steve to help with some things that he needed while Pepper was in the process of finding him a new assistant. âGood morning, Steve,â Y/N greeted him one day while she was helping him for a week. She daintily put down a large coffee cup in front of him and his eyes widened.
âOh you angel,â he whispered, grabbing the warm cup. He brought it to his lips, taking a slow sip and he hummed appreciatively. âYouâre heaven sent, you know that?â
âI know,â Y/N smirked. Â
âOh I see how it is,â Buckyâs voice came from behind her. She turned to find him walking toward her into Steveâs office with a teasing smile. âOne week with this jerk and you forget all about me.â
âPunk,â Steve spat as he sipped his coffee.
Y/N rolled her eyes and held up the other cup in her hand. âHow could I forget your cafe style sweetened matcha with three pumps of lavender and oat milk?â Bucky hung his head and huffed a laugh as he took the cup from her. âYou just came here before I had a chance to come to you. So needy,â Y/N teased him. She took out her work phone provided by the firm and started scrolling. âBy the way, your date from last week keeps texting and calling. What excuse do you want me to give dearest Dottie?â Â
Bucky groaned and Steve laughed loudly. âWhat was wrong with this one, Buck?â Steve snorted.
Bucky glanced at Y/N like he wasnât sure how to talk about it in front of her. âWell, judging by these texts, sheâs very thirsty,â Y/N said in a deadpanned tone, making Steve almost spit out his coffee. âLike, all of the time,â Y/N said. âShall I?â she smiled wickedly, waving the phone in front of Buckyâs face.
His eyes widened and he slammed the drink down before lunging toward her to grab the phone but she sidestepped him and ran behind Steveâs desk. âRead it! Read it!â Steve said, standing from his chair to block Bucky from getting to Y/N.
âDonât you dare!â Bucky growled as he tried to go through Steve.
ââLet me know when I can see you again, baby. We can pick up where we left off,ââ Y/N read, her voice taking on an exaggerated Bronx, New York accent like what sheâd heard from Dottieâs voicemails. Â
âOooh where did you leave off, Buck?â Steve asked. Â
Bucky tried to push past him. âNo where,â he grunted.
âThese get worse by the day,â Y/N frowned as she read through them. She had mostly ignored them every time she saw Dottieâs name pop up, not engaging in her constant ramblings in trying to get his attention. This was why he gave out the work cell phone number rather than his actual, personal one. ââI want your tongue so deep inside me I can taste it,ââ she read in the accent again, her eyes wide and eyebrows raised high. âGood Lord.â
Bucky finally got past Steve and ran after Y/N as she squeaked and ran out of Steveâs office, Steveâs laugh echoing down the hallway as she moved as fast as her heels would allow her. She ducked into an empty conference room and ran around the table, Bucky on the other side. ââI feel like a vampire, I wanna suck everything out of you,ââ Y/N read, cocking an eyebrow at him. âJesus, Bucky, where do you find these girls?â He edged around the table toward her and she jerked to the side, making him frown deeper at her. He suddenly jumped and slid over the table, making Y/N screech as she tried to run but he caught her with his arms around her waist, hoisting her up off her feet. She kept the phone out of his reach as he tried to maneuver her to take it from her. âOoh this one is really naughty,â she giggled. Bucky pushed her into the corner of the room, making her face him as he grabbed at her hands. He finally caught her wrists and as he held them together she read: ââFuck me like an animal. I wanna be your little cum slut,ââ she finished, laughing at the end of the phrase and losing the accent.
Bucky pried the phone out of her fingers. Y/Nâs laugh died on her lips as she looked up at him and saw the look on his face. He wasnât frowning or smiling, but looked surprised andâŚaroused. Y/N realized the position they were in. She was pushed in the corner, his leg between her legs with his knee almost cradling her core, the rest of his torso pushing against her front to keep her there, his hand holding both of her wrists against his chest and his face hovering mere inches from her face. His eyes flicked back and forth between her eyes, then glanced at her lips.
Y/N gasped and pushed him away, Bucky quickly backing up with the phone in his hand. He exhaled sharply, his eyes widening. âIâŚIâm sorry, Y/N,â he said quietly.
âItâs okay, itâs my fault,â Y/N said, shaking her head and looking down. âIâm sorryâŚI got carried away. Iâll um, let you handle that and you can give it back when youâre done,â she said, glancing at the phone, then gave him a quick look and walked away. She nearly ran to the bathroom, hiding in one of the stalls and sliding down to the floor as she tried to even out her breathing. It wasnât that she didnât want Bucky to touch her, in fact sheâd had way too many dirty dreams starring him doing much worse things to her since she started working here. She would gladly fuck Bucky, but she didnât want to lose her job or have to give it up like Peggy had with Steve. She needed this job. She needed to take care of herself, so that if he ever came around, she wouldnât fall for it all again. Â
***
The rest of that day she had focused solely on Steve and all he needed her to do. When the day was over she marched toward the front door by the reception desk where she found Bucky talking to Kamala.
âOh, have a good night, Y/N!â Kamala called out to her and waved.
âYou, too, K,â Y/N said quickly, giving her a quick smile. She glanced at Bucky quickly. âGânight Buck.â She walked fast out of the office toward the elevator down the hall. She heard Buck say goodbye to Kamala then follow her out.
âY/N, hey, hold on,â he called out to her.
She sighed silently as she pushed the down button and turned to face him with a polite smile. âYes?â
Bucky stared at her for a moment before the elevator dinged and they both entered the elevator. Y/N pressed the parking floor level button and leaned back against the elevator wall. Buckyâs mouth opened and closed multiple times before he finally turned to face her with a heavy sigh. âIâm sorry, again,â he said, his voice sounding strained. Â
âItâs fine, Buckââ
âNo, itâs not,â he interrupted her. âI shouldnât haveâŚroughhoused you like that.â
Y/N chuckled. âRoughhoused?â
âYes, Iâm an old man, donât judge me,â Bucky said, rolling his eyes, a small smile on his face.
âIâm sorry I teased you with the texts so much,â Y/N said. âI just have a bit of aâŚhistory, and it threw me for a loop for a second.â He looked at her quizzically but she didnât want to explain. âSheâs got quite the vocabulary,â she said with a teasing smirk, changing the subject.
Bucky snorted, hanging his head as Y/N laughed. âYeah, it was uhâŚquite the date,â he said. âThatâs why I didnât text her back. It was all just a bit much.â Y/N hummed and he handed the work phone back to her. âI politely told her to get lost and blocked her number,â he said. She took the phone and nodded. âI really am sorry,â he repeated. Y/N met his gaze. He was sincere and repentant, a knowing look in his eyes. âI didnât mean to hurt or scare you.â
Y/N stared at him for a moment before giving him a small smile. âI know.â
***
Y/N was walking by the reception desk one day on her way back in from lunch when she stopped in her tracks. Kamala was speaking to a man that Y/N recognized. It was Vic, her ex. Kamala looked uncomfortable and met Y/Nâs gaze with a concerned look. Y/Nâs eyes were wide and she shook her head minutely, hoping Kamala would get the message. Kamala looked down then back up at Vic. âIâm sorry, we donât have anyone here by that name,â she said sweetly. âMaybe you have the wrong address?â She distracted him, making him face away enough that Y/N was able to slip by down the hallway. Once she was out of earshot she ran into Buckyâs office, closing the door and locking it behind herself. She was panting, trying to calm herself.
âY/N?â Buckyâs voice came from behind her. She whirled around to face him. He looked confused. She held her finger to her mouth and a call came into his office phone. He frowned and answered the call. âYes?â he asked. He listened for a moment before looking at Y/N. âA Victor Creed is here to see me?â Y/N shook her head frantically, her eyes stinging with tears flowing fast. Buckyâs face shifted into a look of surprise at her response as he stood. âIâll come up front in a moment,â he said before hanging up. He rounded his desk and reached out to her, taking her hands in his. âWho is he?â he asked quietly.
âHistory,â Y/N whispered. Â
Buckyâs face twisted in recognition at the conversation theyâd had weeks before, then his expression became stony. âStay here. Lock the door. Iâll knock twice once itâs safe.â
Y/N sniffled and nodded as he squeezed her hands, then had her stay behind the door as he opened it and walked down the hallway. She locked it behind him and stood stock still as she waited and listened. She could only hear muffled voices for a few minutes, then Vicâs voice getting louder before a slammed door made her jump. Footsteps came back down the hallway, then two quiet knocks on the door. She sighed as she unlocked the door with a shaky hand. Bucky slowly opened it, watching her carefully. âHeâs gone,â he said, taking a step toward her with his hands up. âKamala is calling security to have him trespassed from the building.â Y/N nodded, gnawing on her lip as her arms were tensed and tightly wrapped around herself. âItâs okay. Youâre safe. Everythingâs going to be alright,â he said quietly. She swallowed harshly as her tears kept falling. âCan I give you a hug?â Bucky asked. Â
Y/N stared at him for a moment before a sob broke through, and she nodded as she hung her head. Bucky stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to his chest as she cried heavily. She gripped the lapels of his suit jacket, shivering against him. âI told him it was over,â she cried. âI told him to leave me alone.
Buckyâs fingers pet the back of her head, running through her hair. âThis isnât your fault, Y/N,â he said quietly. âHeâs obviously stalking you.â Â
She nodded against his chest. After another moment of him holding her she pulled away and sniffed quickly, wiping her face. âGod, ugh, Iâm sorry,â she grunted, clearing her throat. âIâm so sorry to bring thisâŚdrama to the workplace. I thought I had handled it but apparently not. I completely understand if you have to let me goââ
âWhy the hell would I do that?â Bucky scoffed. âYouâre the best personal assistant Iâve ever had.â He stepped toward her again and reached for her hands, holding her fingers lightly as his thumbs ran over her knuckles. âHereâs what weâre going to do. Heâs being trespassed from the building. You will be escorted by security, or at the very least one of us, to and from your car every day.â
âBuck you donât have toââ
âLike hell I donât,â he interrupted her with a stern look. âYouâll turn on your location on the work phone and share it with me and the others. And you and I are going to go to the police station to make a report, go online and fill out a protective order or stalking injunction, then drop it off at the court later.â Y/Nâs tears came back. She hadnât been able to rely on anyone for years, had lost all contact and close relationships with her friends and family because of him, so to have someone worry and care about her enough to try to help her was overwhelming. Bucky let go of one of her hands and reached that hand up to wipe away her new tears. âOkay?â he asked.
âOkay,â she nodded.
***
Bucky, the other partners, and the entire office was a godsend to Y/N. He had accompanied her when they filled out the protective order and turned it into the courthouse, then to the police station as she made a report. Working in a law firm was helpful in that she was able to file a cease and desist by the end of the day, and with Buckyâs connections to certain officers at the station was able to know when Vic was served with everything. Over the next few weeks she was accompanied to and from work from her car in the parking garage by someone, usually Bucky, Steve, Tony, and at other times by some of the paralegals. Scott was one of her favorites, always making it seem like she was the president and he was the secret service. Â
She was grateful to all of them for their efforts and willingness to help her. It made her feel like a burden, but she was quickly reminded that they really didnât mind when she brought it up. Her protective order was granted, and she proceeded into getting a restraining order since they lasted longer.
Five months later as Buckyâs team was working late on a big case she packed up her bag. âAlright, Iâm heading out,â she announced to the room.
They all hummed or bid her half-hearted farewells, their attention all focused on the paperwork in front of them. Buckyâs head snapped up. âHold on, doll, let me walk you down.â
âBucky, itâs fine, honestly,â Y/N waved away his concern, backing up to the front door. âItâs been months. Iâm sure Iâll be fine. You shouldnât have to babysit meââ
âFreeze,â he barked at her. Y/Nâs eyes widened and she stood still, everyone else falling silent at his raised voice. âIâm coming with you,â he said with no room for argument. He slipped his jacket back on and grabbed his keys before walking up to her. âLetâs go,â he said in a quiet, much more gentle tone.
The ride in the elevator and walk to her car was silent. Once she had unlocked her car door and put her purse in she turned to Bucky. âThank youââ
âY/N, I need you to understand something,â Bucky interrupted her. He was frowning, looking down at her with an intensity sheâd never seen directed at her before. âYou are not a burden. I am not babysitting you. I want to help you. I want you to be safe. I need youâŚâ he paused, swallowing harshly. âI care about you,â he said quietly. Â
Y/N stared at him in disbelief. She had made good friendships at the office, and she and Bucky had become close, with her managing every aspect of his job and life for over a year. She trusted him, and if she were honest with herself, she liked him as much more than her boss, and more than a friend. But to hear it from him in this context made her feel emotional. She felt tears start stinging her eyes and blinked rapidly to make them go away.
âThank you,â she replied. âI appreciate that. IâŚI care about you, too.â
Bucky watched her for a moment before taking a step toward her. He looked down at her for a moment, the intensity in his eyes making her knees feel weak. His gaze fell to their feet then he wound an arm around her shoulders and hugged her, kissing her forehead lightly. âIâll see you Monday,â he whispered into her hair.
Y/N gently hugged him back, enjoying how his cologne wrapped around her like a blanket. She closed her eyes as he held her, then opened them when he stepped away. âSee you,â she said quickly. She gave him a small smile then got into her car. Bucky stepped back and watched her drive away. Y/N didnât know what to think of the interaction. It wasnât necessarily work appropriate, but also not quite wrong between friends outside of work. When she got home she tried to shake it off as another strange moment as she took off her heels and dropped her bag in the entryway. She walked to the kitchen, pulling some things out to make a quick dinner when she felt like something was off. She glanced around, then saw a shadow in the corner of the dining room. She froze when she saw Vic standing there out of the corner of her eye, watching her. Y/N knew it was too late, and subtly called the last number she had called, which just so happened to be Bucky.
As it rang quietly she turned around and faced Vic head on, looking him in the eye. When she could hear Bucky pick up she spoke loud enough for him to hear. âWhat are you doing here, Vic?â she asked, her voice sounding angry, which she was thankful for with how afraid she was.
Vic chuckled and stepped toward the kitchen into the light. He looked rougher than the last time she saw him, like he hadnât been eating, and he smelled like he hadnât showered in a long while. His eyes were bloodshot, and with how he swayed as he walked she could tell he was either extremely drunk or high on something. âHey princess,â he slurred. âJust came to see how things are going. Howâs the new boy toy treating you?â
âBoy toy?â Y/N scoffed. âWho are you talking about?â
âThat boss of yours,â Vic snarled, stumbling toward her. He tried to reach out and grab her, but she quickly stepped out of his reach. He grunted as he righted himself. Â
âHeâs not my boyfriend,â Y/N said. âEven if he was, you have no right to be jealous of me or who I associate with. We are not together.â
âRight, you being an âindependentâ woman and all,â Vic mocked her, making air quotes with his fingers. Â
âY/N! Iâm coming!â she heard Buckyâs voice muffled against her chest from her phone.
Y/N tried to keep her wits about her, thinking through her options. Help was coming. Bucky was coming. Just keep talking. âI am now,â she asserted herself. She angled her body sideways, getting into a better fighting stance and turning toward the front door. âYou hurt me, Vic. You controlled, isolated, and abused me. And I deserve better than that.â
Vic laughed. âYou deserve what I think you deserve. Which right now, is to be my little cumslut, like you used to be when you were a good little princess. So, get on your knees,â he said, rushing toward her. Â
Y/N punched him, making his head whip to the side, then used his drunkenness against him as she pushed him as hard as she could away from her, making him stumble and fall to the floor. Y/N held her phone as she ran to the front door. As she was unlocking it Vic ran up behind her and lifted her off her feet, throwing her back toward the dining room where she fell hard on the floor. The phone clattered a few feet away from her, and as she crawled toward it Vic grabbed her feet, trying to pull her back. She kicked and screamed, hearing Buckyâs voice faintly yelling through the phone. Â
As Vic was able to turn her to her back, she punched him again, enraging him further. âYou stupid bitch!â he screamed in her face.
Y/N screamed back in his face, then Vic was pulled back off of her. She gasped as she saw Bucky wrench Vic away, put him in a chokehold and fall on top of him. Vic struggled, scratching at Buckyâs arms and hands as he choked and gasped for air. Bucky grunted and tightened his grip more. âGo to sleep, fucker,â he growled. After another minute Vic slowly lost control of his arms, his eyes rolling back in his head until he passed out. Bucky let go of him, but stayed on top of him in case he woke up. âCall the police,â Bucky glanced at her. Â
***
She watched the police officers and paramedics work on Vic in the entryway, loading him on a gurney that he was promptly handcuffed to. They checked her and Bucky over, treating the scratches on Buckyâs hands and arms and her bruises and scrapes. She was questioned by police officers as they took pictures of her and Buckyâs injuries as well as the knocked over furniture in her apartment. Y/N answered them as best as she could, Bucky sitting with her the entire time until they finally left. Â
âY/N?â Bucky called to her, turning to face her. She looked at him blankly. He was watching her carefully, reaching a hand out and taking hers closest to him. âDo you wanna stay here tonight?â She shook her head fervently. âYou can stay with me if you want,â he offered. âWould you like to do that?âÂ
Y/N nodded absentmindedly. She couldnât think of anything better in that moment than a shower and a different place to stay. Bucky helped her pack a bag, then guided her out of her apartment to the parking lot. He helped her into his car, and she melted into the front seat. She felt numb, unable to get her thoughts together to form anything coherent. The rational part of her mind knew that it was trying to protect itself from the trauma of the night, but she couldnât quite come to that conclusion yet. Â
She was almost falling asleep when Bucky pulled into the garage of a home. He got out and helped her out of the car, carrying her bag as he guided her into the house. He led her through the house until he walked into what looked like a guest bedroom, setting her bag on the bed. He turned to look at her. âThe bathroom is there,â he pointed at a door in the corner. He looked at her nervously. âDo youâŚdo you need, um, help?â
Y/N stared at him for a long moment. She didnât know what she wanted. Her eyes flicked around the room. âIâŚI donâtâŚknow,â she whispered.
Bucky nodded. âOkay, well, how about you go shower, and uh, here,â he opened her bag and pulled out some pajamas and underwear, walking to the bathroom and putting the clothes down before coming back out, âand Iâll wait here just in case. Is that okay?â
Y/N nodded. âThank you,â she whispered. She couldnât seem to find her voice, afraid that if she were any louder it would somehow make everything real. Bucky nodded and gave her a small, reassuring smile before he sat himself on the bed. Y/N walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind herself. She felt like she was jerky in her movements as she stripped herself of her clothes, heaping them in the sink. She stared at herself in the mirror for a moment. Her hair was a mess from fighting him off, her mascara streaked down her face from the tears she unknowingly shed earlier, and a bruise showing near her hairline from when she hit the ground. She shivered and turned on the shower. The water was too hot, but she barely felt it as she washed herself. Â
Y/N turned off the water and walked out of the shower. She wrapped herself in a towel as she dried off, fixing her hair and rubbing her face. She looked at herself in the mirror again. Back to normal, she thought. But this wasnât normal. Nothing about tonight was normal. Nothing about her life for the past few years had been normal. The adrenaline seemed to all wear off in a second, and her sobriety made her gasp. She doubled over as the soreness from the fight hit her out of nowhere, and she cried out as she held herself and kneeled to the floor.
âY/N?â Buckyâs voice called out from behind the door. âAre you alright? What was that noise?â She couldnât answer. Her throat was closed, choking on sobs. âIâm coming in,â he warned her, then the door opened. He looked around, finding her on the floor in the fetal position. âOh, doll,â he cooed, kneeling down quickly. Buckyâs arms cradled her, moving her until he was able to help her stand. âCome on,â he said, grabbing her clothes and leading her to the bed. She cried as he held her, her face buried into his collarbone, her fingers gripping his shirt tightly. He sat her on the bed and kneeled in front of her to catch her eye, reaching a hand up and wiping away her tears. âCan I help you get dressed?â he whispered. Y/N nodded as she hung her head in her hands. She didnât care about how awkward or inappropriate this was at this point. Bucky handed her her underwear, then closed his eyes. Y/N dropped the towel and put on her underwear quickly. Bucky then blindly grabbed her shirt, opening his eyes while his head was facing down as he fixed the shirt, then closed his eyes again as he held it up so she could slip her head and arms through it. He did the same for her sleep shorts, the backs of his fingertips sliding along her thighs and hips momentarily. Â
Bucky then stood and opened his eyes, looking down at her as he stepped forward in between her legs. He slowly cupped her face in his hands and made her look at him. âI know itâs a really stupid question, but, are you okay?â he asked.
âNo,â Y/N shook her head, a fresh wave of tears starting to fall. âHeâŚhe was going to hurt me again.â
Bucky nodded. âI know, but you did the right thing in calling for help. Iâm just sorry I couldnât get there sooner,â he said, biting his lip when it trembled. âAnd you fought back, Y/N. You fought hard and you won. Do you hear me?â he dipped his head down to be eye level with her. âYou won. Heâll never hurt you again. You protected yourself, and Iâm so proud of you,â he paused, his voice wobbling with emotion. âIâm proud of you for keeping yourself safe. God, when I saw him on top of you Iââ he gritted his teeth, frowning deeply. âI canât lose you.â
Y/N stared at him. Heâd confessed he cared about her earlier that night, but now he seemed like he maybe cared more than heâd let on. âIâm just your assistant,â she said.
Bucky chuckled. âBest assistant Iâve ever had,â he smiled. âBut you, youâreâŚlike I said, I care about you.â
Y/N eyed him warily, but she was too exhausted to try to argue or read into it anymore for the night. She sighed and nodded. âI need to sleep,â she whispered, her body feeling like it could collapse at any moment.
âOkay,â Bucky agreed, moving to the top of the bed and turning down the covers, helping her get situated. Â
âPlease stay,â Y/N said, grabbing his wrist.
Buckyâs eyes widened but he nodded. âOkay.â Â
He sat at the end of the bed as Y/N got comfortable. After she shifted repeatedly she looked at him. âCould you, umâŚwould you pleaseâŚhold me?â she asked hesitantly. Â
Bucky immediately nodded. âYeah,â he said, then climbed up the bed. He settled under the covers and held his arms open to her. Y/N scooted close to him, her head tucked under his chin, resting against his chest, and the moment his arms were wrapped around her protectively she cried again, this time quietly, her body trembling as it tried to relax. âItâs okay, doll, Iâve got you,â he mumbled, kissing the top of her head. âYouâre safe. Youâre safe here. You can stay as long as you want. Iâm right hereâŚâ He rambled on for a while, his low voice helping soothe her nerves and lull her to sleep. The last thing she felt was his hands rubbing her back gently, his lips kissing her forehead. Â
***
Y/N woke up the next morning extremely warm and comfortable. The bed underneath her wasâŚmoving? She shifted herself, realizing that the bed she was on was a body. Her head snapped up and looked to see Bucky. He was still asleep, laying on his back with Y/N draped across his side, her head still on his chest, her arm across his waist and her leg hiked up over his groin and legs. A flood of memories rushed in her head, making her shut her eyes tight at the headache it caused. She laid her head back down on his chest, groaning at the soreness in her body. His arm draped across her back that held her against him instinctively tightened and he hummed as his free hand bent up and under his head, making him look relaxed. Y/N couldnât help but to stare at him. Getting to see Bucky asleep was quite the sight. The nearly perpetual frown he had at work when focusing on cases and handling issues was gone, making him look younger and peaceful. Â
Y/N reached a hand up and softly scratched at the beard hair on his chin, caressing his cheek and tracing along different parts of his face. She felt like she was skipping a lot of steps, and that this was definitely inappropriate, but couldnât find it in herself to care. His eyes fluttered as she traced down his nose, and he started to wake up. She tucked herself back into his side quickly, closing her eyes as Bucky started to squirm. He groaned beneath her, stretching as best as he could with her nearly on top of him before she felt his lips on her forehead again. âY/N,â he grunted, then cleared his throat. âGood morning.â Y/N didnât want to move. She didnât answer and his free hand shuffled from underneath his head to reach down and poke her side gently. âCome on, doll, time to wake up,â he said quietly.
She hummed unhappily, shaking her head against his chest. âFive more minutes,â she rasped. Â
Bucky chuckled, making her shake. âAs comfortable as I am, letâs get you fed, huh?â She shook her head again, her arms tightening around him. He shifted himself to face her, wrapping his arms around her in a hug. âWere you touching my face?â he asked, a teasing tone in his voice. Y/N hid her face into his chest to hide her blush. Bucky chuckled again. âWhy were you touching my face?â
âI donât know,â Y/N replied, her voice muffled in his shirt. âYou just looked soâŚpeaceful and cozy.â
He hummed, the vibration in his chest warming her face. She finally moved and looked up at him, meeting his tired gaze. âHi,â he whispered.
âGood morning,â Y/N whispered back with a small smile.
âHow are you feeling today?â he asked quietly, reaching a hand up and moving her hair out of her face.
âHmâŚtired, and sore,â she groaned. Her stomach growled then, and it made him smile widely.
âAnd hungry,â he smirked. âCome on.â They both slowly got up, and separated for a few minutes to get cleaned up and ready for the day. He met her at the door to the guest bedroom and led her to the kitchen, where he had her sit at the bar stool at the island while he gathered some food together. âYou like waffles?â he asked.
âI love waffles,â Y/N smiled brightly. Â
While Bucky worked on breakfast Y/N took a look around the kitchen. Since they had come to his house late at night and she had been merely surviving emotionally at the time she hadnât been able to get a good look at the house. She gazed at the design and layout of the kitchen that was open to the dining room, and just beyond an arched wall she could see into an office, sitting room area. The entire house was a moody, dark academia style, making her smile again. Dark and brooding but with charming aspects, like the man making her waffles.
âI love your house,â she said, catching his attention. âDid you have it designed?â
âI did,â Bucky smiled, plating a waffle for her. âMy sister is an interior designer.â
âYour sister?â Y/N asked with raised eyebrows. âHow did I not know you have a sister?â
âJust because youâre my personal assistant doesnât mean Iâm gonna tell you everything,â he smirked as he handed her the plate, along with a butter dish and the maple syrup.
âObviously not,â Y/N smirked back at him. She buttered the waffle and poured the syrup before cutting into it and taking a bite. She sighed happily at the taste, giving Bucky an appreciative nod, making him smile. âSo good,â she mumbled around the mouthful.
âGood,â Bucky said, then turned to make some more. He cooked up some eggs and poured her some coffee and juice. He leaned on the island across from her and ate as well, both of them getting their fill until the waffles and eggs were gone. He took the dishes and put them in the dishwasher before turning back to face her again. He stared at her for a minute before licking his lips. Â
Y/N sighed. She couldnât keep playing this back and forth, weird sexual tension game anymore. Her emotions were all over the place, and annoyance was winning. âYou keep saying âI care about you.â What does that mean?âÂ
Buckyâs eyes widened as he frowned. âIt means I care about you. I want to help you, like I said. Iâve seen these things happen before and I couldnât just let it beââÂ
ââIâve seen these things happen before.â So you wanted to save me.â She knew she was lashing out, but couldnât stop herself. âBut itâs never happened to you, has it?â Y/N slipped off the stool, rounded the island and came toe to toe with him, Bucky backing up slightly at her voice raising. âYou donât know what it feels like to be afraid every day. You donât know what itâs like to be stalked, harassed, beaten, raped, broken! So why do you care so much?!â She asked, her eyes burning with more tears falling. Â
Buckyâs own eyes looked teary as he looked down at her sadly. âMy sister was in an abusive relationship,â he said quietly. âHe almost killed her. She got away and didnât want help, but it haunted her. She was a shell of herself. I couldnât lose her, sheâs the only family I have left,â he swallowed harshly. âSo I helped her as best as I could. It took her a while, but eventually she got better, and is still healing. I donât know how it feels. I donât know what you need. I just want to help,â he said, his lips pressing together firmly.
Y/N digested his words, her mind still feeling slow in processing things. She blinked rapidly as she sniffed. âFine,â she agreed. Bucky seemed relieved and nodded. âIâm going to get my stuff, then Iâll be out of your hair,â she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
âDonât do that,â Bucky said gruffly back. Â
âDonât do what?â Y/N asked.
âDonât push me away just because I offered you help. Donât get angry and defensive because someone wants to take care of you,â he replied.
âI never asked for your help,â she said quietly.
âStop it,â Bucky said, stepping closer to her. âIf you didnât want help you wouldnât have called me.â
She stared up at him defiantly. He was close to her like that day when she teased him in the office a while ago. Y/N wanted to push him, see how far he was willing to go in this back and forth theyâd been having for so long. âI care about you,â kept rattling around in her head as she tried to make sense of it. Yes, he cared. But it felt like something else. Something more simmering underneath the words. Â
âYou care so much,â she sneered, stepping even closer. âWhy?â
âBecause Iâm a good person?â Bucky said incredulously. Â
She shook her head. âAnd?â
He looked like he was fighting against himself. âI donât need another reason. And I donât need to explain myself to you.â
âIs it because you want something from me?â she ventured. âYou help me and Iâll be so eternally grateful Iâll throw myself at you?â
Bucky recoiled. âStop that.â
âWell thatâs what you want, right?â Y/N pushed further. âI saw it that day when Steve and I were teasing you, and it went a little too far. You wanted more,â her eyes flickered to his lips and back to his eyes. Â
Bucky shut his eyes and shook his head, taking a step back. âY/N, you just went through something traumatic. Youâre lashing out because you donât know how to handle it right nowââ
Y/N said, stepping toward him again. âAll I need is a straight answer. You wanted more, yes or no?â
Bucky opened his eyes but couldnât keep her gaze. âIt doesnât matter what I want,â he said, his jaw ticking when he finished.
âStill didnât answer my question,â Y/N said, sounding more annoyed. âYou wanna help me? Think of this as my first round of therapy. Iâm working through some rough feelings right now, Boss. I need an answer!â
âYes! Okay? Goddammit,â Bucky said, throwing his hands up in frustration. âYes, I want more with you. But that doesnât matter. Especially right now. Iâm not going to take advantage of a highly emotional moment in your life and try to slip in just to âget some,â thatâs not what I want. And itâs insulting to me that you think that of me,â Bucky pointed his finger at her. âSome people really do just care about you, you know that? Some people really just want to help because they care about you, because they like you, they love you!â
Y/N was fully crying again, her arms holding herself even more tightly than before. His raised voice was making her shrink into herself. âNo one loves me,â she whispered.
âI do!â Bucky yelled.
Y/N flinched and Buckyâs face crumpled. âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry,â Y/N said, taking a step back. âJust please stop yelling.â
Bucky sighed heavily, his hand rubbing his face harshly before he raised his hands in front of himself like he was surrendering. âIâm sorry, Y/N, I didnât mean to yell,â he said quietly. âPlease, IâŚIâm just trying to help.â
Y/N bit her lip as she tried to control her crying, but instead it just made her choke on a sob that broke through. She wasnât scared of Bucky. She knew he would never hurt her, but the raised voice and yelling was triggering. âI know, Iâm sorry. Iâm sorry for questioning you and your motives. Iâm sorry,â she tried stepping away but he walked toward her.
âY/N,â he pleaded. âDonât run away. Please, Iâm sorry,â he reached toward her, leaving his hand outstretched with his palm up as an invitation. Â
Y/Nâs eyes flicked from his hand to his face repeatedly. The dichotomy of wanting to run away and hide versus wanting to be comforted was making her panic. Ultimately she slowly reached out and gave him her hand. Bucky slowly stepped toward her, taking her hand and holding it gently but firmly as he pulled her towards him. She stepped toward him hesitantly, and he moved slowly as he wrapped his arms around her, watching her reactions carefully. He pulled her until their bodies were flush against each other and her arms wrapped behind his back, tucking her face into the crook of his neck. His hand moved to hold the back of her head against him gently, running his fingers through her hair as they breathed deeply, and she matched her breathing to his to calm down. âI do want you,â he whispered in her ear. âI do like you. If Iâm honest, Iâve been falling in love with you since the moment I met you.â
Y/N huffed a short laugh against his skin. âI knew it,â she whispered.
âCan you blame me?â Bucky chuckled, nuzzling her hair with his nose.
Y/N smiled. âThank you, Bucky. Iâm sorry IâŚI donât know whatâs going on with me right now.â
âItâs okay, I understand,â Bucky breathed, squeezing her tighter. He pulled away just enough to look at her.Â
They stared at each other and she gulped. âCan I haveâŚcould we tryâŚone k-kiss?â she asked.
Buckyâs eyes minutely widened, inhaling sharply. âI-I donât know if I couldâŚstop myself at one,â he confessed.
âThatâs okay,â Y/N said. Â
Buckyâs eyes flickered to her lips and back to her eyes. His hands moved from her back up to her face, cupping her cheeks and angling her head upwards. âYou want me?â he asked breathily. Y/N nodded as he leaned forward, angling his head and brushing his lips across hers first, like he was testing the waters of his own sanity. He finally fully pressed his lips on hers and kissed her softly. Â
Y/N sucked in a breath, kissing him back just as softly. It was just as perfect as she had dreamt it would be, from all those nights she had fallen asleep to the thought of him, while chastising herself for her feelings and denying it. It ended too soon when he pulled away, though not too far as his nose nuzzled her nose. Y/N whimpered at the loss, and he had to shut his eyes tight again. âFuck, doll, that was a pretty noise,â he groaned. His fingers slipped back into her hair. âMore?â he begged.
Y/N nodded and he kissed her again. This one was firmer, heavier, and his grip on her was tighter. Her fingers fisted his shirt, her arms pulling him by the waist impossibly closer to her as she angled her head more and pushed up on her tip-toes to deepen the kiss. Bucky grunted, and before she knew it he was picking her up and setting her on the kitchen counter. The kisses were passionate, Buckyâs tongue sneaking out to lick at her bottom lip and Y/N opening up to him easily. They tasted each other, nipping at each otherâs lips, their hands roaming each otherâs bodies. Bucky was standing between her spread legs, his hands now kneading her thighs up to her hips as she tasted him and sucked on his tongue. Â
âHoly shit, doll,â he moaned when she released him. âI just wanna make it clear that Iâm not trying to take advantage of you in a fragile stateââ
âJust fuck me, Bucky,â Y/N groaned, running her fingers through his hair and pulling him back in for a seering kiss.
âYeahâŚyeah okay,â Bucky huffed against her mouth, picking her up and carrying her back to the guest room.
***Â
When they got to work that next Monday Y/N was greeted with excited smiles and hugs. Apparently word had spread quickly. âOh! Iâm so glad youâre okay!â Kamala said, hugging her tightly. Â
Steve stepped up afterward, hugging her like she was his little sister. âIâm so glad youâre okay,â he said quietly. âSo proud of you.â
Y/N smiled appreciatively at him. âThank you. Thank you, everybody,â she waved at them all. âIâm fine, really.â
âNow quit distracting my assistant. Fuck off!â Bucky said loudly, and they all went back to work in a hurry, Steve just rolling his eyes and smiling as he walked off to his office. Bucky had his hand on her lower back as he guided her towards his office. Once they were inside he shut the door. âTake a seat, doll,â he said. âLetâs go over the schedule.â
âAlright,â Y/N nodded, getting herself settled and her notebook and phone ready. âAnd uh, thank you, by the way, for kinda saving me back there.â
âNo need to thank me,â Bucky shook his head. âNow listen, I know weâre in a weird spot right now. I want this,â he gestured between the two of them, âto work, but I donât want you to lose this job on account of that, either. And youâre honestly the best personal assistant Iâve ever had. So, I want work to be work, and home to be home. Does that sound fair?â
âYes,â she nodded, smiling at how business-like he sounded. Â
âGreat,â he nodded back. âSoâŚthe schedule.â
THE END?

"If voting was worthless they wouldn't be trying to make it harder."
"If voting worked they'd make it illegal."
Okay these are both fun slogans but let's talk about what really happened here in the US.
First they made it so only white landowning men could vote. Then over the years other groups of people kept fighting for the right to vote and winning and the white landowning men were like "fuck well we can't defeat the masses outright on this so we'll just make a bunch of rules that make it hard for them to vote." And the oppressed masses fought against those too and won a bunch of gains on the issue like the Civil Rights Act.
So the powerful learned from their mistakes and made other, more subtle rules to make it harder to vote as the two parties battled back and forth to win the most power and influence and corporate donor money.
Republicans fought by making it as hard as possible to vote because they tend to win when less people vote, and especially when only the privileged with a lot of money and free time can manage it.
Democrats fought by trying to get more people to vote, but it's a bit more complicated than that. They're still beholden to wealthy corporate donors, so they can't just let pure democracy happen. They can't let real leftists become presidential nominees or allow real leftist policy like universal healthcare to pass. What they can do is convince you over and over to vote for the "reasonable" option under threat of Republican Hell so that you not only give them more power, but hand over your money and your time/energy to convince other people to give them more power and money.
Republicans benefit from the same kind of threat to their constituents, even as they're more blatant in their fight to stop people from voting.
The result is a system in which both the statements at the top of this post are true. If our voting system threatened to turn the US into a socialist utopia where the masses had all the power, they'd make it illegal. Democrats have never made a serious move to abolish the Electoral College. They absolutely mobilized to prevent even Bernie from becoming the Dem nominee. They'd do it again.
And you can see the same patterns in similar nations. Labor gained power in the UK only to become an anti-labor neoliberal party practically overnight. France elected a leftist government and Macron just went "nope."
But they're never going to make voting all the way illegal for just landowning men again, let alone make it outright illegal, because they know that would inspire the masses to rise up and make too much trouble again, and who knows what they'd lose? The current situation is working out great for them.
Meanwhile, of course Republicans want to make voting a certain amount of hard because they do want the most power, but even Trump probably knows better than to outlaw voting. At most he'd turn the US into a sham democracy like his idol Putin.
Which would of course suck, but the point it that the two statements up top are both essentially true but reductive.
Voting isn't worthless but those in power are never going to let us vote our was into a society that removes or even significantly reduces their power. You can maybe make things temporarily a little better or prevent them from getting worse for some people by voting.
But the problem is that people aren't just voting. They're voting and then telling themselves that they did their duty and using that as an excuse to do nothing else. Or they're voting and donating millions to Kamala in mere hours while GFMs for Palestinians and other desperate people stagnate. Or they're voting and giving all their attention, energy, and time to the two big party presidential candidates by volunteering or yelling at people on social media or both so all the money and power is funneled back into those who already have nearly all of it.
And nothing is left to actually fight for a better world.
I don't care to tell people whether to vote or how. It feels to me like a choice between a fast death or a slow one, which sucks either way. What pisses me off is that we're letting the powerful convince us to invest so much in them with this perpetual election season as the world circles the drain, and the most powerful know full well that this leaves us with too few resources to ever topple them from their thrones.
You're letting them pull your strings instead of breaking them. Things get worse every year and the longer we do this, the worse it's going to be for us all, and worse still for future generations. How long are you going to fight to slow down the train that's headed for the cliff instead of jumping off it while there's still time?
Don't scold me about voting on behalf of the train conductors hoarding all the train food. It's not a perfect metaphor ok but the point is fuck off and fuck this.

youre the first person ive seen since biden drop out who seems genuinely positive abt it, everyone else ive seen is being rlly negative or making jokes and it scared me a lot.... can you explain, or link to another post or article, that explains why its good that he dropped out? i keep seeing everyone saying that biden didnt do anything, then that he did so many things, thrn stuff saying kamala is a bad choice to endorse then you sounded so positive abt her and im very confused ): i avoid politics a lot cuz i live w a very protrump dad and its so difficult to find accurate information that isnt seaped in memes and sarcasm and pessimism but you sounded very genuine! thanks for any help <3
I went into more depth over here! I also wanna share a couple of videos I've been getting these perspectives from, because these folks are a lot more educated on the topic than I am.
I first heard the perspective that Biden was woefully unlikely to win from Olayemi Ulurin, in this video. She has a kind of "I can't blame anyone for not voting" perspective that I do think I agree with, largely because she's coming at it with nuance: Biden is not a compelling candidate, he's not likely to win, it makes sense people don't wanna vote for him, and the Democrats need to get their shit together and pick someone else.
She also posted this video (below) that goes way more in-depth into the issue, and which I think reflects (and GREATLY expands and adds to) my personal stance on the "vote blue no matter who" thing: i.e., voting is ultimately about making the fight easier for activists who are working for real change. It's important for that reason, not because the person you vote for can be trusted to do anything helpful of their own volition.
youtube
If you're gonna watch any of the videos I link here, watch that one.
The other source I've looked to a lot recently is Some More News, which is where I initially heard a lot more detail on the "Biden should drop out oh god oh please it's our only hope" perspective.
First was their podcast episode immediately following the recent Biden/Trump debate, in which they delve (somewhat casually, but thoroughly) into why Biden's 2024 campaign was so fucking terrifying for everyone who needs a Democrat win:
youtube
They also get into more detail on the topic here, in another podcast episode:
youtube
Those two videos are great just for understanding this election and why Biden dropping out is very much the best thing that could have happened. That's basically the topic for the full length of both podcast videos (where Olayemi just kind of touches on that specific question, in comparison). If you just want more details on that question and only have the capacity for one of these, you could probably watch either podcast video (I personally have only watched part of the second one, and all of the first one).
I'd also recommend these two channels for political insight in general.
Olayemi is great because she comes at things from an explicitly activist perspective, and she has a huge personal background in very grounded, concrete political activism, especially as a black immigrant woman. She brings in a lot of other experts as well, often themselves marginalized political activists, which is just a fantastic way to be exposed to a really awesome diversity of knowledgeable perspectives without having to look very far on your own. She's also relentlessly hopeful- and grounded in that hope- which is so, so important and refreshing.
Some More News is a good supplementary to Olayemi, imo, just in that they have a good, upbeat (and again, very grounded) energy, and they cover a lot of very current political stuff in an easy-to-digest kind of way. I find both them and Olayemi really fun to watch, but the vibes are definitely different between the two, and they're good counterpoints to each other- plus they tend to cover different stuff, which just helps broaden your awareness of what's going on, again without needing to look super far.
I know this is a lot of information; hopefully I've made it possible to sift through for the piece you actually want to start with, though. If nothing else, I really encourage folks to check out Olayemi and see if any of her videos catch their eye. She's really fantastic, and her stuff scratches my "video to do laundry to" itch while also being, like, a really valuable watch overall.
Best of luck!!

authorâs note: If I had a nickel for everytime a girl broke up with her superhero bf bcs he lied abt being a superhero I would have 2 nickels.
Honestly tho I rly donât like the whole âIâm upset because you lied to meâ trope in the superhero genre. I feel like thereâs a much better reason to break up with a superhero so hereâs my idea. Iâll talk more abt it in the end note.
Anyway enjoy!

Soaring through the air with nothing but a thin string as support, fighting monsters 3 times his size sometimes from a different universe, killing the fucking Prime Minister; none of these things have brought him as much anxiety as he feels in this moment.
It was so late, after 2 in the morning, and he was rushing back to his apartment grunting in pain from his injuries. Itâs never fun fighting Kingpin, but hopefully after tonight he wonât have to do that anymore. Kamala had finally discovered his new place of hiding, Osbourneâs old bunker.
No matter how badly his ribs stung with every thwip and pull, he didnât let up or slow down for a second. You were waiting for him. Youâve been waiting for him since he left at 8. Fuck, itâs been 6 hours? How did he let time fly like that?
âSheâs going to kill me,â he lightly joked to himself. His stomach turned, he knows deep down that you were getting down to your last straw. Youâre always so sweet about his disappearances. He tells you he needs to go; âBeing in-charge of a non-profit anti-establishment organization dedicated to the dismantling of our government doesnât allow you to have much free time, love. Iâll be back,â he would say. Your gorgeous smile would present itself and he just has to give you a kiss before he leaves. That smile has become less bright in recent months.
Youâve started voicing your annoyance as well. âYeah, so Iâve heard,â you would respond. Or, âDuty calls?â With an eye roll. His least favorite response was, âWhy donât you date the organization instead?â The chuckle you let out after that was so dry and your smile was so empty. It scared him.
There were times where he wasnât there in the first place. He regrets those the most. Heâs missed so many important things, some of which he couldnât understand how or why you forgave him. He certainly wouldnât have if he was in your position. You had to be an angel or something. Fuck, he loves you.
Tonight was supposed to be a shut-in date night. Just the two of you, some junk food, and a scary movie that youâve been dying to see. His watch beeped with a message: got a lead on Fisk. He looked at you and you justâŚlet him go. You didnât smile, you didnât frown, you just looked into his eyes and turned away.
âIâll be right back, I promise.â You didnât respond, and at that moment, he decided that when he got back there would be no more secrets. No more sneaking around. No more lies. He loved you and you deserved to know.
From what he could see through the window, the lights were off. A part of him is relieved, hoping you werenât awake so he could just take care of his injuries and slip into bed next to you. He would just have to wait to tell you tomorrow morning.
But, that plan is put to shit when he opens the window and quietly steps inside his living room. The tv is off and the snacks have been cleared. Hobie starts to panic. Did you go home?
He slips off his shoes in case you were sleeping soundly in his room and starts to walk slowly towards it. The door is cracked just a bit and the light is off there too. The entire apartment was shrouded in darkness, the only possible light coming through windows from the moon. He looks through the crack and relaxes upon seeing your silhouette in bed. He lets out a quiet sigh and creeps away to the bathroom.
âHobie?â He freezes. A few seconds pass and he hears the bed creaking and feet shuffling across the floor. He still doesnât turn around as his door opens to reveal you in your pajamas, face puffy, and eyes red.
You had been waiting for him to get home for what felt like forever. You were so excited earlier today, but there was this unrelenting churn in your stomach telling you that he would leave eventually. And of course, you were right.
Honestly, you didnât understand why you were still with him at this point. You know he lies about where he is. Youâve known ever since he invited you to a protest his non profit put together. You told him you wanted to become an official member and he shot it down immediately. âToo dangerous for a peng-thing such as yourself,â he told you. He was right about it being dangerous, everyone was gassed and it hadnât even been 15 minutes. But that didnât matter. You wanted to be a part of it. Especially after they got to witness Prime Minister Osbourneâs beheading.
He didnât even use it as an excuse most of the time. When you would wait for him to meet with you, his reasonings were fickle if he even had any.
âGot caught up with something,â
âOne of my mates needed me, you know how that goes,â
âIt doesnât matter, Iâm here now arenât I?â
Oh, and there was your favorite, âGet off my back, will you? Iâve got a life too.â The times where he had nothing to say at all, as painful as it was, were much better. You were so sick of it and you just hoped that he could tell.
Right now, in this moment, youâre not sure because he still hasnât turned around. You couldnât see much in the darkness of the hallway, but you at least knew it was him and he was walking away. âYou canât even look at me?â
Hobie stood still, his mind racing. He didnât know what to do. He didnât want to see the look on your face. He knew you were disappointed. He could hear it in your voice. ââŚI,â he clears his throat. âI didnât think you would still be awake.â He cringes.
You blink at him. âYou didnât think I would still be awake?â You repeated vexedly, your voice growing stronger.
âI didnât mean it like that,â Hobie tries to save.
You closed your eyes and took in a sharp breath. âYou knowâŚif youâre cheating on me, Iâd rather you be honest about it.â
Hobie finally turns around. In the dark, you canât see his mask, but he can see you perfectly. You looked so dejected and it destroyed him. He could tell that you had been crying before he got here, and now youâre eyes were welling up again. His chest pangs.
âI donât appreciate you leaving me without a word and coming back whenever you want,â you continue, your voice breaking. A tear slips down your face and you quickly wipe it away only for another to follow right after. âDo you think Iâm stupid?â You sob, trying to remain strong as he walks towards you. âThat I would just be okay with that shit?â
Hobie still doesnât answer. Instead, he stands a couple feet away from you right next to the light switch. âAre you not going to answer me?â You growl at him. Still, nothing. âHo-â
The light turns on. His name halts in your throat as you gaze upon him. Your tears donât stop and you raise your hand to your mouth, a shaky gasp escaping you. Hobie finally peels his mask off to reveal his cut up face.
For a moment, thereâs nothing but silence as you try and process this new information. Hobie wasâŚSpider-man. Your boyfriend was Spider-man. Thatâs why. Thatâs why he was never there. Thatâs why he can never be there. Hobie opens his mouth, the breath he takes being enough to cut through the tension. âIâm sorry.â
He continues to walk towards you, praying that you donât walk away. Youâre frozen in place. âIâm so sorry.â He holds his arms out and embraces you in a tight hug relaxing into your arms when you lift them up and wrap them around his neck. You bury your head into his shoulders making his suit wet from your tears.
Hobieâs lips begin to quiver. He swallows a sob before speaking again. âI didnât know how to tell you...â His voice cracks while trying to find the right words to say. âI justâŚI am so sorry for lying to you. Iâm so fucking sorry.â
For a while, the both of you just stand there in each otherâs presence. There was a feeling of anxiousness in the air; for Hobie, he was worried why you hadnât said anything. As for youâŚ
âCome on.â You grabbed his hand and walked the both of you to his bathroom where you sat him on the toilet and tended to his facial wounds. You remained completely silent, still trying to gather all of your thoughts. It made him all the more terrified.
Hobie repeatedly geared himself up to speak to you, but ultimately kept his mouth closed. What could he say? It was you who needed to talk. You needed to tell him how worried for him you would be. You needed to tell him how happy you were that he was okay. You needed to tell him how angry you were at him for lying to you.
You neededâŚyou neededâŚ
He needed you to say something. Anything.
But you didnât know how to tell him. And when you were done with his face he stood up and took your hand to walk the both of you back to his room. You followed at first, but quickly stopped. He looked back at you in confusion, his heart racing. âWhat is it?â
You let go of his hand with him refusing to do the same. It went limp in his hold as you stared at the ground. Your eyes filled with tears and fell just as quickly. Without looking up, you finally told him what was on your mind. âIâŚI was going to break up with you tonight.â
His heart dropped. He releases a huff having been completely floored by that charged sentence. What do you mean you were going to break up with him? What do you mean there was no saving the relationship the moment he left? What do you mean he was too late?
His mouth opens and closes, trying to find the words to convey his shock. âWas?â He decides upon, foolishly hopeful.
The breath that you take in, the look on your face, and the tears falling down it killed anything inside him that held onto the possibility that you still wanted to be with him. So he lets go of your hand too. âNo.â You say.
Hobie is appalled. His eyes dart around the hallway as his mind tries to make sense of what was happening. His breathing gets harder and faster. He begins to shake his head. âI donât-,â he stutters, âI-I donât understand.â
âHobie-â
âI mean, IâŚâ he hikes his shoulders up and holds up his hands. Finally, he looks at you. His chest aches at the sight of you, heâs never seen you so dejected. He gestures at himself. âYou seeâŚyou see why.â
You walk towards him and put your hand on his chest to try and calm him down. It does nothing. Instead he holds his own hand over yours to keep it there. âAnd I am so glad that you trusted me enough to tell me. Your secret is safe with me, Hobie.â After telling him that, you lose any resolve you had and sob. Your voice is strained when you talk, and you have to take small pauses to catch your breath and remain coherent. âBut that doesnât change the fact that you missed my graduation-â
âI was almost eaten alive.â he quickly defends, remembering that annoying day. The Inheritors have become a very big nuisance since Osbourneâs death and are the reason for so many of his disappearances. He would explain all of this to you if you gave him the chance.
You scrunch your face with a look of confusion, but when he doesnât explain any further, you continue. âAnd you missed my recital-â
âSo I could keep Kraven from fucking up 38th street.â He was starting to get upset. Itâs like you werenât listening to him. He was Spider-man. Of course he couldnât be there for every facet of your life. And you knew that now. SoâŚwhat the fuck? âIf I hadnât done that, your mates wouldnât have anywhere to live.â
You could hear the annoyance in his tone and body language, and it made you a little miffed. âI understand that-â
âDo you?â
You slap your head in frustration. âYouâre not getting it, Hobie. You werenât there-â
âYeah, I fucking couldnât be because Iâm too busy trying un-fuck our city and everyone in it. Including you.â He says, slightly raising his voice. How dare you get mad at him when youâre the one whoâs leaving? âI mean, Iâm showing you why I canât be there and itâs still not enough?â
You never stopped crying, but now you were pissed. You glared at him. âYou think that fixes everything? It doesnât change the fact that I stood outside the auditorium and waited for you right before and right after my name was called for nothing. Or that I almost fucked up my solo because I couldnât think about anything besides the fact that you werenât there.â
Hobie raises a finger at you. âI-â
âStop interrupting me!â You shout, immediately recoiling but keeping your glare. Hobie blinks at you in disbelief. âKnowing that you were off saving the world does not mean I didnât need you there with me when my sister was-â Choking on your words, you cover your mouth with your hand in a feeble attempt to hide the sob that escaped. Hobieâs anger dissipated and all that was left was utter heartbreak.
You took a second to recollect yourself, shying away from his touch when he reached out to you. He drops his arm by his side. âI donât understand,â he whispers, his voice breaking.
Taking another deep breath, you drop the ball on him , finally. âIf youâre worried Iâm going to go off and tell Jonah Jameson-â
âNo,â he practically shouts. âIâm not fucking worried about that. Iâm upset, because my girlfriend is breaking up with me!â
âDonât fucking yell at me!â
Hobie slams his hands against his head and walks away from you, panting. All you can do is watch him, anticipating his next move. Bracing yourself for whatever heâll say out of anger.
After a few moments of breathing, he drops his hands and turns to look at you. âSo what you just-donât love me anymore?â
âWhat?â
âIs that it? Thereâs someone else?â
You furrowed your brows and looked around the room wondering where the hell he got that from. âThe fuck? No!â
âSo why donât you want to be with me anymore?â
You groaned in frustration and covered your face with your hands. He just wasnât getting it. âThatâs not what Iâm saying-â
âThe fuck are you saying?â His voice louder than itâs ever been towards you.
âI want to be with you, Hobie,â you tell him, the tears never ending. Your voice, as loud as it is, shakes and cracks. Hobie grabs his hair, his mind completely scattered. You were confusing him left and right. Why canât you just come out and say-
âI donât want to be with Spider-Man.â
Everything seems to stop. The only sound being you calming yourself down as you take some deep breaths. You couldnât look at Hobie, you just couldnât. As for him, he couldnât stop looking at you utter disbelief and heartbreak.
His bottom lip quivered as it hung open. His nostrils began to flare. His chest rose and fell as he felt the lump in his throat grow. Why wonât you look at him? Please look at himâŚplease?
âYouâŚI donâtâŚâ he simply canât find the words to describe how he felt. To put it simply, you were breaking his heart. He loves you. He fucking loves you so much. It hurts that thereâs nothing he can do to fix this. He canât just stop being Spider-Man, no matter how hard heâs considering it at this moment.
He doesnât know what yo do. Heâs so hurt. Heâs soâŚfuckingâŚangry.
âGet out.â He says, looking at the ground.
You jerk your head up at him. Wiping your eyes, you ask him, âWhat?â
Hobie angrily puts his mask back on. âGet the fuck out,â he repeats, louder this time. You donât move. You didnât want it to end like this. Was it really going to end like this? NoâŚ
âBa-Hobie,â Slip of the tongue. But it was too late, he heard it and it broke him even more.
âI donât want you here when I get back.â He turns away from you and stalks towards the window. Without looking back once, he lifts it open and hops back out into the night.
You slap your hand over your mouth and squeeze your eyes shut. This feeling in your chest, you wanted to lie down and scream at the top of your lungs. You were hoping he understood, that you could reason with him, but now you were left a lonely shell of your former self. You would hate yourself for breaking his heart the way you did. As you gather your things and leave the apartment, you start to wonder, was this even worth it?
On the trek home, you decided; yes. It hurt, but nothing would compare to the pain of him not being there at the hospital when you told him you needed him there. All the moments that you needed the man you loved and he was no where to be found, you found joy in knowing that you would never experience that again.
You werenât angry with Hobie anymore. You knew why things were the way they were now. But, thatâs not a love life that you wanted. That was the most difficult thing you had to do, but you had to do it. You werenât going to be a superheroâs girlfriend. You just werenât. You hoped he understood one day.
And he will. But for now, Hobie watches you leave the building with a hole in his heart and hatred in his mind. For now, you just donât want to make it work with him. Hobie knows the two of you are meant to be, he just wishes you would understand that-
No. He wishes you would accept him. You donât . And that destroys him.
For now, you simply donât love him enough to accept him for what he is. A huge part of him was scared of this, and would you look at that, it came true.
He was so confused. So hurt. How could you. How could you?âŚ
ending a/n: Hi! How was it? I hope I wrote it well. I really wanted to make sure it was clear that they both are valid in their feelings about the whole thing. It made sense that it would all blow up and not end well and I think itâs very easy for someone who is dealing with a lot of emotions to not really think rationally or listen to the other person.
If you read this whole thing and was like âwhat is wrong with herâ let me try to explain my thought process. She doesnât want to be with a superhero. She wants to be in a relationship with someone who can be there for her. Hobie was never there, if he was it was few and far between. And thatâs bcs of his obligation to the world and multiverse. Thatâs no oneâs fault. She gets that. So sheâs going to find someone who CAN give her the time she needs. Someone who doesnât have a duty to the world. Someone who can focus on her as much as she does for them.
Of course, Hobie isnât going to understand that. All he hears is that she doesnât want to be with him. So, heâs thinking irrationally, not really listening to what sheâs saying. Taking things the wrong way bcs heâs heart broken.
I like where I ended it, but I am very open to a pt 2 in the future where theyâve gotten over it (or maybe not đ) but theyâre not going to get back together. Itâll be like closure unless I decide to never let Hobie heal from it. Hmmmm. Idk idk idk!
Anyway, I hope you guys understood my thinking and enjoyed this version of this trope. I donât think Iâve seen it done before, it would be nice to start a trend of this. I would love to see how other people interpret this. Please feel free to discuss this particular topic more with me if you would like! I donât bite! Yâall have a good oneđŠľđŠľ

i know that it might feel so early 2000s or whatever but i think we've been going too easy on the evangelical churches. they preach insane amounts of hate and indoctrination, they're tax free, all the various branches operate like micro-cults, it's fucked up. where's bill hicks? where did all the asshole atheists go? it's like they were relegated to "reddit fedora basement dwellers" or whatever and then written off permanently.
a lot of people that i meet in LA will tell me they're ~agnostic~ or ~spiritual~ and i get the sense that it's because they're afraid of being perceived as closed-minded. i have the confidence to respond, "i used to be agnostic, but now i no longer have any faith in any higher power. the universe is entropic and it's our job to create our own meaning in our lives." and i feel like we should all feel free to be outspoken atheists again. up to and including being bitchy about astrology and etc. like just call it how you see it. if you get the feeling it's bullshit, call it out.
in a world with soooo much bullshit we have to start digging through all the various layers of it. pick your layer and start digging. personally, i'm beyond annoyed with evangelical christianity. it's a scourge. you don't have to be disrespectful or whatever but yeah go ahead and just tell people about it if you don't believe in anything.
now another thing is, we need more secular social groups. and ummmmm it would be great if these secular social groups could get politically organized so it's not just people sitting around making fun of christians.
anyway, this post inspired by these election results. i don't care as much about the blue bars (i'm uninterested in people who voted for kamala or didn't vote), just the red bars.

When I saw your blackpill views I thought you were a moron.
Now when I see the US elections result, you were right. The world hates women.
Most women are pick mes that will dump you for male validation and men are biologically wired to rape and subjugate women..
How do I cope with this reality? Can you provide me with resources?
That first line made me laugh but it's okay the word of christ was rejected at first too.
I looked at the results & fucking hell I truly thought kamala had it in the bag icl but I'm not suprised. I wrote the below on my private twitter account when I saw the results so far. At the time it was being said that typical red states were quicker to count but now more results are in & the donald is close to the 270 electoral college votes needed.
So far donald trump has more of the personal & electoral college votes from what it seems. Honestly if he wins nothing truly fucking matters. This is how it's like for women. Doesnt matter how qualified or well spoken you are, you end up losing to a dusty moid in society. Tho tbh it was the same thing 4 years ago. So much desperation for dems to be voted to protect roe only for it to be overturned anyways. It was about getting trump out of power w/ all he did. This is the first time I'll say this in a while but I truly hate politics. Like I saw in the witchesvspatriarchy subreddit, regardless of who wins the work is not over. However one thing I'll say about republicans esp trump is that they're persistent & dgaf about the rules. That's why they often win or come very close to it.
Donald is a convicted felon, jan 6, and yet. Yeah nothing fucking matters. One thing about moids is that they aren't as logical or even moral as the advertise, they just do whatever will get them closer to their goal at all costs which is why arguing with them is a waste of time.
In terms of how I cope I'll address this in another post as I've received a few asks on this but generally my solace in this hellhole is knowing it's not my fault and that under no circumstances am I leaving children behind. No life to the xy and no victims for them either. After millenias of suffering it ends with me in my line. Moid's fun & games end when there's no toys to play with.
As for resources, look through my blog or the blackpill feminism/feminist tags. Pinned list of some of my posts on @letters-of-libertas.

Haunted House Headcanons
masterlist
Pairing: marvel characters x gn!reader
Characters: Frank Castle, Loki, Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, Bucky Barnes, Peter Parker, Yelena Belova, Matt Murdock, Natasha Romanoff, Wanda Maximoff
Warnings: minor violence and ptsd, mention of a heart attack
đđđđđ đŞđđđđđ
Is not the biggest fan of things jumping out at him to scare him
Will only go if he gets the impression that you really want to
Repeats ânoâ over and over if he has a feeling something will pop out at him
Tries to expect the scares that will happen before they happen in order to try and prepare himself
Is definitely not prepared when a person bursts out of a coffin that he assumed was just a prop for decoration
Will try and fail to reassure you that itâs fine if you turn out to be scared
âCâmon now âs not even that scaryâ
The end of his sentence ends with him screaming as someone jumps out of a wall at him
Will laugh about the experience with you after itâs over
Drags you to get coffee with him after because itâs the âleast you could doâ
He even hits you with the puppy dog eyes and you resist the urge the roll your eyes at him
Youâre now up all night because of the coffee he forced you to get, thanks Frank
đłđđđ
You want him to go where?
Looks at you with such disdain when you say heâs gonna have to interact with other people
You end up having to drag him there against his will
Visibly looks bored and drags his feet the entire way
Makes fun of everything in it and question who would come to one of these things willingly
Is actually scared at the props and jumpscares, but will never admit it out loud
Walks close to you so youâre shoulder to shoulder
Will quickly step away and puff out his chest as if nothing happened
Jumps closer to you after a specific jumpscare and stays there until you reach the end of the house
He ends up punching one of the scare actors and gets you both kicked out
"I told you; you weren't supposed to touch any of them"
"They're reflexes what do you expect I do about those"
đŞđđđđ đŤđđđđđđ
Is excited to go to one
She lives on the adrenaline rush that she gets when sheâs inside the house
Has a smile on her face the whole time even when she gets scared
Walks confidently through the attraction, turning corners sharply to see whatâs on the other side
Thinks of it like a fun game as she drags you to different areas with different scares
When you reach the end she brings you back to the line to get in to go in again even though you both know where most of the scares are in the place already
Ends up in an entire conversation with one of the scare actors when you guys reach the exit of the attraction for a second time
Makes it an annual occurrence to go to a haunted house every year
Even finds one to go to when itâs not even close to Halloween
âCarol itâs February why are we going to a haunted house?â
âBecause itâll be fun câmon scaredy cat!â
đ˛đđđđđ đ˛đđđ
Girlie is so scared to go to one
You can sense the nerves on her and you tell her she doesnât have to go but she insists that itâll be really fun to go
Literally clings to you the entire time
Wonât get more than a foot away from you before sheâs glued back to your side
Screams at every small movement she sees
Wonât go into any room or around any corner first
Pushes you quickly into the new areas when one of the scare actors came up behind you both and scared her half to death
She flails her arms when she gets scared and she almost hits you on multiple occasions
Practically runs out when she sees the door to the exit
You have to bring her to get ice cream after in order for her to calm down completely
Her voice is completely gone the next day from screaming so much
đŠđđđđ đŠđđđđđ
Used to be a big fan of haunted houses
Would take women there so he could âprotectâ them when he was in his womanizer days
Now with everything thatâs happened he doesnât exactly see the appeal of them like he did before
Heâll get slightly triggered by the flashing lights and loud noises
When you offer to leave the place because of it he insists that heâs fine and that you both should stay
You reluctantly agree and he swears that heâs fine
He doesnât have any more episodes for the rest of the house and he finds himself having a good time otherwise
The scares donât really phase him, other than a couple of good ones that catch him off guard
Finds it hilarious when the other people in the house get scared at all of the wimpy and childish scares
Will keep making the âIâm too old for thisâ type of jokes
Has a great time and would probably drag Sam there once in order to try to scare him
đˇđđđđ đˇđđđđđ
Is honestly terrified
Jumps at noises before youâre even inside the haunted house
Tries to play it off like he didnât just jump or was kidding, but heâs really bad at it
You can feel him shaking next to you as you start to walk into the scary building
You have to force him to move his feet when he stops a couple steps into the building
Keeps his eyes closed for most of the time so you have to guide him on where to go
His spidey senses are all over the place when in the building even when he knows thereâs no actual real danger
Squeezes your arm tightly every time someone screams
You have to tell him when youâre out of the building so he can open his eyes again
Screams when someone taps his shoulder to ask him if they could borrow his phone since theirs died
Gets extremely embarrassed because of it and stutters a lot when he hands over his phone, almost dropping it in the process
Is not able to sleep for the night and ends up having to watch comedies to get his mind off being scared
đđđđđđ đŠđđđđđ
Is really excited to get to go and try a new experience
Gets more nervous when you get closer to the destination
You have to actively keep from harming any of the scare actors or destroying props
When something pops out at her, her arms immediately go up and hands turn into fists
You have to forcibly bring her arms back down at her sides so she doesnât end up harming anyone
Ends up accidentally breaking one of the props after it jumps at her
Tries to put it back and fix it, but it ends up falling over again
Quickly walks away from it after she tries and fails multiple times to fix it
Laughs about it after youâre both out of the house and away from the area of the workers so they donât suspect
They definitely suspect something when you both conspicuously fast walk away from the attraction
Overall has a great experience
đ´đđđ đ´đđđ
đđđ
There isnât really a reason for him to go to one since for one he wonât be able to see whatâs happening and two he would know when each scare was going to happen and from where
Goes with you anyway since you sound so excited about it
Chuckles every time you jump closer to him
Pretends to get scared a couple times but you know heâs just pretending
Ends up somehow scaring one of the scare actors?? You actually have no clue how
Genuinely does have a good time because he finds your reactions to everything amusing
âStop laughing at meâ
âIâm not laughing at you Iâm laughing with youâ
âMatthew I am not laughingâ
You threaten him with not inviting him to go to a haunted house with you again and he quickly apologizes because he had a good time and would want to do it again, even if he couldnât see the attraction or enjoy it for the reasons everyone else does
đđđđđŹđĄđ đđ¨đŚđđ§đ¨đđ
The person who is probably the most down to go
Sheâs the one who comes up with the idea to go
Doesnât get scared as easily as some of the other characters do
Confidently walks through the area, not getting deterred by many of the scares
You have to work to catch up with her with how sheâs moving, trying not to slow down much when you get jumpscared
When she gets scared however, she gets scared good
Thereâs a specific scare that she doesnât see coming that she jumps back from, almost crashing into you
Will want to go through it again when youâve both reached the exit, or find a different new one to try
Youâre both at it until the early hours of the morning
Itâs a shock that you donât have a heart attack from all the different houses she drags you to
đđđ§đđ đđđąđ˘đŚđ¨đđ
Honestly she would probably act like how an average person would in a haunted house
Screams and gets scared at parts while also seeing the fun in it all
Will most likely make fun at how some of the props look
Laughs at the more ridiculous ones because who decided to make these look like this
She does get more scared from more of the props than the scare actors though
She doesnât expect the first prop to come down from the ceiling into her face and she recoils so hard bumping into you
She glances at it as you both walk by it to get to the rest of the attraction and scoffs at the weird zombie/skeleton looking creature that scared her
âI canât believe I got scared at that thing.â
Gets scared again by one that looks the exact same
Wonât go out of her way to go in it again but is willing to do it again at some point
You casually get drinks after to talk about your experiences in it
She wonât let the one scare she had down and keeps insisting that she definitely would not be scared if she would have seen how dumb it looked beforehand

NYX #6 Review
*Spoilers!*
Kiddddeeeennn !!!
The issue starts with Kiden dancing in the rain while going to a âDazzler concertââŚ(the scene is really GORGEOUS here!!)
Kiden is soliloquizing about people being a trap⌠(this is what being friends with Laura DOES to YOU lol)
Kamala is basically me at a concert⌠that was basically how I was when I recently went through security for Charliâs Sweat TourâŚđŹđ𤣠(I WISH I could be Anole đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł)
Does Sophie still have her powers when she says âCuckooâ? (Idk, this plot point admittedly doesnât make much sense to meâŚ)
While walking through the venue (they should really be getting into the merch shop line-amateursâŚ), Kamala is worried sheâs not taking the âno contactâ with her sisters wellâŚand apparently becoming addicted to video gamesâŚ
Anole is basically eye-fucking everyone at the venue (GET IT VICTOR đ¤Łđ¤Ł!)
We get a sleight of hand from the writers- itâs NOT actually Kiden, but LOCAL, that Laura smells and is kind of fixating on! (sorry KidenâŚyouâre too good for Laura anyway!)
Local then shows up to basically hit on Laura/tell her to âstay out of his wayâ. (Playing hard to get- copied from the Hellion Playbook!)
The team FINALLY remembers the Mojo plot exists. (I get it⌠Hellion was WAY MORE excitingâŚ)
Prodigy has of course the RIGHT reaction (âOh Fuckâ indeed!)âŚ
Dante is promptly dent to the merch line while they deal with the baddie (finally- itâs 100% going to sell out of all the good items guys!) and Dante offers Sophie to come with and be in the ânormie groupââŚshe promptly declinesâŚ
Kiden narrates how Mojo has basically been taking homeless mutants and how she didnât trust Mr. Friendly (and apparently DOES kind of think Laura is a shit friend too!)
The team springs into action while Sophie feels awkward on her secondary team with Anole (sorry Sophie!), while Local brakes into the sound booth.
Prodigy calls out Local and Co.âs evil plan to insert a subliminal message into the music to use Dazzlers fame to essentially get followers (soâŚTikTok?đđ¤Ł)
Local argues that itâs the same as what they did at the protest (letâs not rehash that last issue, LocalâŚ) and that Mr. Friendly is the only one helping homeless mutants (which is TRUE- even BEFORE this event Xavier and Co. Weâre terrible at helping the MorlocksâŚ)
Laura talks sense into Local and Local admits to Laura that if he goes back Mojo, he will kill himâŚbut sadly Mojo has already taken over Localâs body⌠(đĽş)
Mojo works the crowd like a BOSSâŚwhile lamenting how generic this evil villain plot is (not your BEST work admittedly, Mojo)âŚ
Kiden busts onto the scene to save the day and beats everyone (GO KIDEN!!) and decides to catch up with LauraâŚwhile they justâŚlet Local escap? (But the CONCERT guys!!âŚ.Seriously thoughâŚI get itâŚI would probably turn the other cheek if I had TS tixs too lol)
Laura totally up and leaves with Kiden without saying goodbye to the rest of the group (AKA probably hooking up with Kidenđđ!)
Back to the Local subplotâŚwe see Mojo has apparently adopted parasocialism⌠(but has he read Mark Fischer???)
Review:
This issue was good- fun. Donât have a lot of complaints.
I didnât really LOVE the art- some panels, like the rain were gorgeousâŚsome were a letdownâŚ
Dante is still just kind of awkwardly thereâŚbut Anole is slightly better in this issue.
My biggest gripe is how NICE Kiden was to Laura and basically letting her AGAIN back into the fold despite Laura being a shitty friend (I felt similarly irritated with Jubes in X-terminators barely saying anything to Laura basically ignoring her for months) âŚbut I feel like thatâs potentially COMING in the NEXT ISSUE!
Theories:
Kiden is working for SOMEBODY⌠either the new Quiet Council or MojoâŚand Laura just got kidnappedâŚ
Her POV sounded way too bitter and Laura randomly disappearing, sounds like we are finally going to see someone TURN on LAURAâŚ
I was kind of wondering if Lil Bro, Tatiana, or any of the others in the group are being held/controlled by MojoâŚ
It would 100% be HILARIOUS if Kiden, Synch, AND Hellions formed a group of basically âLauraâs EVIL EXâsâ đđ¤Łđ

All right, the votes are now almost entirely in, so let's take a look at the most recent election, shall we? LONG RANT (TM) time.
THE MANDATE
As you may have already heard, Donald Trump won the election and is already claiming that it was an overwhelming victory which gives him a powerful mandate to govern as he wills.
As with most things he says, you should take all of that with a heaping spoonful of salt. Now that almost every vote is in (CA and WA still have about 3% of their votes left to count, but the rest is pretty much final) we can clearly see that, though he did get more of the popular vote than Kamala Harris, he still fell short of 50% for the third election in a row and he only led Harris by about 1.5%. Not only that, but with the full results we can see that more than 4.5 million fewer people voted in 2024 than voted in 2020, meaning that a good amount of the increase he saw from 2020 wasn't a result of more people favoring him.
(Fun fact, Kamala Harris may have gotten as many votes in 2024 as Donald Trump did in 2020 depending on the last few votes left to count.)
More to the point, Trump's electoral college victory, 312 to 226, is also far more fragile than he would have you believe. As in 2016, his margin of victory rested on the so-called "Blue Wall" states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In those states, a total shift of 232,580 votes, or less than 1.5% of the total votes cast in those states, OR just over 0.15% of the total votes cast nation-wide, would have produced a Harris presidency instead of a Trump one.
(I would note that Biden's margin of victory in 2020 was similarly slim, 1.65% of the votes cast it the blue wall states and just over 0.16% of the nation-wide total. His popular vote victory, though, was significantly larger, he won 51.3% of the popular vote, just about 4.5% more than Trump. I'd say there's a fair case to be made that he didn't have a powerful mandate either, but he had a better claim to one that Trump does now.)
In other words, Trump won, but it's a razor thin victory by any standard. That seems to be par for the course for the last few elections, the last significant victory, one with a margin of greater than 5% in the key states AND where the winner won the national popular vote by more than 2% (admittedly somewhat arbitrary markers, but ones that put the outside the margins of error for recounts or other likelihoods), was when Barack Obama won the presidency in 2008 and the last one before that was Clinton's victory in 1996 or even Bush Sr.'s victory in 1988 if you are looking for one that wasn't confused by the presence of a significant third-party candidate.
THE CAUSES
So why did Trump win/Harris lose? Knowing the answer will allow us to determine both what the winner can/should do once in office and also what the losing candidate/party should adjust in order to do better next time.
One thing you have to know is that there's still not definitive answers on this from the last several dozen elections, so it's unlikely we'll get a quick answer this time around. There's good academic research to show that people respond to the specific messages of the candidates, but there's also good research showing that vote share can shift based on things as unrelated to the candidates as the number of shark attacks in a region in a given year.
A big caution I would give to anyone who is looking to argue that a specific issue, candidate statement, candidate quality, or policy proposal is responsible for the current result is that we've actually seen a very odd thing in elections around the world this year. For the first time in the last 120 years, every single incumbent party that faced election in the developed world lost vote share. In fact, of those incumbent parties facing election, the US Democrats actually had among the lowest decline. As to why, there are a few commonalities; every single developed country that held elections this year saw significant increases in both immigration and inflation in the past two years, for example, but it's hard to make conclusive statements without quite a bit more study.
My point is simply this: before trumpeting this thing or that thing as the definitive answer for why Trump won/Harris lost, be sure that you're not actually just looking at something that's larger than our country or statistical noise. I know we like to ascribe outcomes to definitive and controllable circumstances, but complex events tend to have multiple interrelated causes that can interact in unpredictable ways and one of the lessons of history is that sometimes we're subject to powerful forces that are beyond the ability of one country or its leadership to dictate.
THE PUNDITRY
Of course, by now you're probably seeing dozens of articles and tons of episodes of news programs on TV and radio that are saying a lot more than I am. Just in the last few days I've seen dozens of them ranging from arguing that the election was decided by young men of Gen Z who have been radicalized by right-wing manfluencers, that Democrats didn't do enough to reach out to Latinos in Spanish, that RFK Jr. turned out key demographics for Trump, or that Republican laws and policies in key states depressed voter turnout.
I cannot say loudly enough that we do not have enough data to actually make any of these kinds of arguments. If we're fortunate, we'll start getting the first real results of voter intent studies sometime around next summer, but even then a binary choice like a presidential election based on thousands of shifting variables is far too complex to ever allow us to do anything than note large-scale trends. Detail may eventually be impossible to find an, in an election as close as the one we just had (see above), it's possible to say that just about any small factor may have been the critical one.
My advice is simple, if you don't know what to do or think now, take some time and consider it. Don't overreact and don't be swayed by whoever speaks the most passionately. If you do know what you want to do, start doing it. Don't wait for results that may never come; do your best to make what you want come about. The methods of activism should be shaped by data, but the goals must be set by your own conscience and, if you're already an activist, hopefully you've already figured that part out. Finally, if all of this is affecting your mental health, step away from it. The election is over and there is nothing more that you, as a voter, can do to change anything. There will be time for more voting and activism later.
As for the pundits on TV, radio, and in print; I'm planning to ignore them for the next few months. Yes, even me, who consumes way more political media than is probably good for a person, is going to step away. Over the last few months in particular I've become more and more convinced that quality political coverage has largely disappeared (or been removed) from the American media landscape. I'm going to take some time and figure out where I can still find it.
CONCLUSION
Look, I know the election was a wild ride for everyone and it likely settled nothing as far as the major issues that continue to roil American politics, but if you're looking for a reason why things turned out the way they did, I don't have anything definitive to provide. It was close, about as close as it's possible to get, and there's a hundred possible reasons why. Take care of yourself, figure out where you stand, what you believe, and what you want to/are willing to do and start planning for that.
This is the world now, probably for the foreseeable future. Your job isn't to fix every problem, your job is to do what you can for as long as you can and pass it down to the next generation in as good a shape as you can manage. That's the same job every generation has had, let's do our part.

Can you dumb motherfuckers stop trying even now to SHAME people into voting how you want and instead talk about the good your candidate will do instead?
Fuck.
Democrats, liberals, and "leftists" can't read the room or strategize their way out of a wet paper bag.
Even now, with Biden out and Harris as a prospective new nom, I'm already seeing "yeah our guy sucks but <insert fear tactics here>"
That is not how you get people to the polls for your candidate.
That's why Trump is a threat. He is saying "this is what I'm gonna do." His followers and campaigners are going "this is what he's gonna do." THAT is what the average voter cares about. Is what he says he's gonna do lies or terrifying fascism? Yes. But when people are scared, insecure, full of despair or frustrated, they want hopeful things to cling on to, promises of change and action, what their candidate is gonna do for them, not "they suck but they suck less." And while wildly misplaced and sick, an action plan is what Trump promises, and his followers spplaud. So this shame shit isn't going to move them.
And as for those who are educated enough to see Trump as the horrific mess he is and will never vote for him, but not satisfied with the other option, shame STILL doesn't work. Because despair kills motivation. And "we suck slightly less" is just despair fuel. Why bother if everyone sucks? And no, a litany of horrors isn't motivation. We live in a litany of horrors, that ain't special. Again: Despair = hopelessness and helplessness = why bother?
Some of you may be too young to remember, but for those who aren't: Think of the Obama campaign. He wasn't some amazingly progressive angel with all the best policies (some were horrible.) But he was a hell of a speaker who promised hope. fucking learn from history. That promise, that fire for hope, got so many young people to the polls. It energized. And he won in a comparative landslide.
So Ok, you got rid of the guy who elitist donors and insufferable people on the Internet said they wouldn't vote for. K. Fresh start. Kamala ain't no Obama in terms of gifted speaker, but those of you talking about her NEED to treat this like the new opportunity it is, and start talking up the reason to be hopeful for Kamala Harris.
Here's a starter for you, for one of the big ones:
Harris has already been vocally more critical of Israel than Biden was, and did so much sooner. Has she said Free Palestine, abolish Israel? No. Of course not. No one in this election is going to. It's not gonna happen. So your options here is someone who has said they want to give Israel enough aid to turn Gaza to glass, or someone who at the very least acknowledged back in March that Israel's conduct is unacceptable. She doesn't have the personal connections to Israel that make her have a soft spot for people ordering war crimes.
I've already spent too long this evening writing this considering I mostly use Tumblr for fun stuff vs. my other social media, but that's how irritating some of y'all are being. I'd love to see and challenge others to reblog and tack on more of the reasons to vote FOR the presumptive nom here, vs. voting against the toupee'd terror.

The Democratic National Convention was an incredible night. It was so fun to be there and so fun to share it along the way!
A few highlights:
Obviously, the most meaningful and incredible part of the night was Joe Biden's speech, and the nearly 5 minute ovation he got when he came out. People were so moved seeing him, and it genuinely was really hard to settle down and listen! I've seen many politicians speak, including Joe himself several times, but I've never seen the sitting president speak, and I don't think anyone outside that room will ever see a president speak in such a meaningful moment after what Joe did for this campaign. He was as sharp and charming as ever, and I would have been proud to vote for him again, but I am thrilled that he is handing over his operation so seamlessly. Just a beautiful moment.
Kamala came out on stage about halfway into the night and I screamed like it was the beatles.
Doug loved waving the signs just like everyone else in the crowd.
We were a bit nervous at the start bc the show "started" at 5 and the arena was maybe 1/3 full, and even at 8pm there were large sections that were empty. But by the end of the night it was PACKED and no one was leaving ahead of Biden, even though it ran way late. The energy was just INSANE and I am so happy that if I only got one night to go, it was for the Biden keynote.
Seeing Jesse Jackson was so, so special. People were really moved when he came out!
Jason Isbell!! I love him so much and he wore a tuxedo and looked and sounded so great and I hope he can entice the kind of democrat we need to have come back to the party!
The section on abortion was insanely moving and these families and women were so brave to share their stories.
I thought there would be more filler and deadtime but outside of the two musical performances, which were just one song each, a few taped messages, and some emcee work by Peggy Flanagan and Tony Goldwyn, it was all business. Just boom boom boom.
The infrastructure of this thing was breathtaking. From the protest management to the Secret Service tent to the volunteer network to the rideshare system on the way out, it was just incredibly smooth. I am very glad I've been through the secret service tent before (a few times, but the most similar to this was the ticketed area on hutchinson field in grant park on election night 2008), bc my little traumatized nerve system may not have loved it if I hadn't taken part in something like that before. But I felt super safe!
I always say I could never join a cult but baby I sure could have last night!! Maybe I will go around the country giving keynotes about how much fun I had last night being a democrat, in an effort to recruit more democrats.
Anyway it was thrilling and special and made me feel so proud of my country and my party.

Hello! New to the X-men fandom, drawn here by Scott Summers (I love your blog so much!) Two questions, if you don't mind:
1. What would you consider essential reads for Scott specifically? There are so many starting points it seems.
2. I did finish Whedon's run of Astonishing X-Men (at the recommendation of reddit) and was wondering if Scott (now?) doesn't need his ruby quartz glasses/visor? Sorry if that's a run-specific question!
Hello!
The first question is surprisingly difficult, only because Scott's such a staple throughout the entirety of the X-Men. So let me kind of give you a run down of your options.
--
The 60s comics are really fun, if you want to see where things began. It is very 60s though, and the style may not be to your taste. There's also some period sexism that's not great (though surprisingly less than I expected. Possibly because Jean's meant to be a fairly liberated teen, as opposed to older ladies like Sue Storm or Janet Van Dyne.)
The Claremont Era (Starting with Giant-Sized X-Men, which introduces staples like Storm and Wolverine) is probably what will be the most familiar to folks who became used to the X-Men from other sources, like the cartoons. The Animated Series and X-Men '97 adapt a lot of Claremont era stuff, so it'll be pretty familiar.
It's also soapy and dramatic, and Scott (and Jean) feature very heavily. You'll also meet Rachel. Rachel is fun.
X-Factor's first run is something I'd recommend only after you've gotten into the character more. It's actually really good, IMO, and an amazing deconstruction of how much of a trainwreck the poor guy actually is. It's not always a flattering portrayal though, which is part of what makes it interesting. (It is good though to read the Madelyne stuff for yourself eventually, summaries tend to ignore the aspects that make Scott's side of things a bit more understandable, if not sympathetic.) Baby Cable is here too.
The 90s X-Comics are pretty fun too, like the earlier Claremont era, this is likely what folk are familiar with if they remember the cartoons. Costumes, characters, and so on. Scott is one of a very large cast, but he tends to have some really good arcs here and there. The art takes getting used to it. This is where you'll start seeing adult Cable as a major character. And another AU Summers child, Nate Grey. He's complicated.
the 2000s-2011 era of Comics have a lot of upheaval and events. Scott is still an idealist, but he's been jaded by a lot of events (and will be jaded by more). You'll see him get darker here, but not evil. It's pretty sad though. SO MANY big events though, Scott pulls off a lot of wild shit.
In 2011-2016, we have two Scotts basically. Avengers vs. X-Men is a massively huge event that changes Scott's role for a long time. For our main Scott, the next few years are going to read a lot like whump fic. He's going to suffer, people are going to blame him (unfairly, imo!) for a lot of things, and he'll be treated like a monster at times. That said, there are people who do see the truth and end up even joining him.
But also around this time, through shenanigans (read: Hank McCoy), the timeline is disrupted and the 1960s era Original Five (specifically circa issue #8) are brought to the future. They have their own adventures in lines like All-New X-Men (v1. and v2.), X-Men Blue, and Scott specifically has a solo series early on and then joins up with Kamala Khan's Champions and it's darling.
Eventually older Scott "dies" (it happens in comics). Young Scott continues though. When Young Scott goes to the past again, older Scott comes back (unrelated reasons).
For 2019-2020, there's a short run by Matthew Rosenberg, starting at issue 11 or so. The original team of X-Men is presumed dead (really they're dealing with some multiversal nonsense. Possibly Nate Grey's fault), and a returned Scott starts gathering new X-Men. It's intense, angsty and kind of bleak. This isn't about saving the world anymore, just maybe going out doing what they should.
From 2020-2023, we get a massive, amazing change in direction called the Krakoa arc. Scott's not featured as prominently here (It's Xavier's show), but he's solid in any series that he appears (Adjectiveless X-Men will always have him somewhere. He's very prominent in Teen Cable's book too.) Krakoa is something very different than anything the X-Men series(es) have done before and it's definitely worth reading. Though for my own taste, I like the return to form that comes with...
Our current era is "From the Ashes" and it's not actually a bad place to jump on. Everyone's a little scattered and out of sorts since the fall of Krakoa, but Scott, being who he is, has already pulled his own book together for the kind of mutant-rescuing heroics that he is wont to do.
As to where to start? Honestly, I'd go with whatever seems the most fun to you. Eventually, I think, you'll find yourself branching out and it won't be nearly so confusing. (There are also wikis, podcasts, and annoying pedants like me who like explaining everything.). Fans will often have their favorite special books (Children of the Atom, for example, is probably my favorite version of the O5 origin. It came out in 2001 and has a truly horrifying Jack Winters), and we'll always leap on the opportunity to share those things.
-------------------------------------------
as for 2. I don't know if you read the Giant-Sized finale of Astonishing X-Men, but they do have a scene where Scott's eyes start glowing again and Emma places the visor on him. It's a nice, quietly somber scene.
In current X-continuity, Scott does still need the visor. The inability to control his blasts may have a psychological component but there's also physical brain damage. (In the Krakoa arc, there are mechanisms where he might have repaired said damage, but it actually does come up at some point, and he specifically chooses not to. I hope I can find that page again, because I feel like there's a lot of interesting potential meta in that choice.)
I don't think they ever really revisit why Emma (or Cassandra, possibly) had been able to neutralize Scott's blasts/restore temporary control over them, but I tend to go with the interpretation that a powerful enough telepath could force a bypass with his powers, but it's an incredibly traumatic, potentially damaging, and ultimately temporary solution. Hence, what we see.
For her part, Jean Grey (at least in the modern era) is able to psychically block his powers. And that's always fun. (And sometimes a little kinky!)

Once Upon A Time I Used To Know A Girl
Chapter 8
Carol Danvers x Reader
Masterlist | This work's masterlist | AO3
Summary: The King of New Asgard finally makes an appearance.
Angst, Slow Burn, Amnesia.
Word count: 959
I Hold The Knife At The Blade
You're in your room waiting for Kamala to come visit you as always. She seems to be running a little late, that's if she's even coming at all. With the way you left things the day before you're not so sure anymore. The worry in your mind starts growing when a suspicious knock interrupts you, before you can answer it, the door swings open to reveal The King of New Asgard.
"Val?" you yelp, "It's so good to see you." You reach out for her and share a comforting hug.
"Hey, Princess." You stiffen at the pet name.
"Did you just call me 'Princess?'" you ask, hoping you misheard her.
Realizing what just happened, she clarifies, "That's a thing I call you now, don't worry about it."
You mumble an 'okay' into her shoulder. She places a steaming mug on the table in front of you and takes a seat on the couch beside you.
"When did you get here?"
"Last night."
"Why didnât you call?"
"I thought you detested intergalactic communications," she retaliates, "little Marv sends her regrets, she will not be making it today."
"Everything okay?" There is slight concern in your voice.
"She had to cover a last minute mission."
"On her own?"
"Oh, no, she has her team of teenage superheroes."
"So we're resorting to child labor now?"
"They're actually quite good." Valkyrie seems unbothered by the implications of your comment.
"They do sound kinda cute." You shrug it off.
"So, how are you doing?" She crosses her legs.
"I lost all my memories from the past several years, how do you think Iâm doing?"
"That's not what I meant." She gives you a stern look.
You sigh, "The headaches are mild now, still have the weird dreams, though."
"Dreams? I haven't heard anything about these dreams."
"Do you also want my chart?"
"I see your attitude hasn't changed," she grins.
"It's been tough.â
"I can imagine." She places a hand on your shoulder.
After you make sure it's not scolding hot anymore, you take a sip of the mug Val brought for you.
"Cream, no sugar, how did you-" You stop yourself mid question, "I keep forgetting Iâm the only one who doesnât remember things," you huff and she gives you a sympathetic look, "tell me something about me."
She bites her lip for a moment, "Youâre quite good with a sword," she smirks.
You chuckle, "I learned from the best."
"I was asked to keep you entertained for the day," A devilish smile starts forming on her face. "What do you say we go down to the gym and have some fun?"
On your way downstairs you encounter a small kitten that stops right in front of you. In an instant, tentacles come out of its mouth and it produces a toaster. "Did that cat just vomit up a toaster?" you ask, alarmed.
Valkyrie begins to explain, "Thatâs not a cat, itâs a-"
"Flerken," you interrupt her.
"Very good," Val is impressed.
"Whatâs it doing here?"
"What are any of us really?" she replies as 'you brought them back from a mission' doesnât seem like something sheâs allowed to tell you. You both keep walking.
You get to the gym and Valkyrie hands you a weapon, itâs been a while since youâve been in the field so you ask her to go easy on you. She complies, if only because she would be in big trouble if she actually hurt you.
You go at it for a couple of rounds, she pulls some new moves and some you knew very well, though that doesn't mean you know how to handle them, Valkyrie has always been the best when it comes to swords.
"Youâre off your game," she teases you in the middle of a fight.
"Oh, no, really?" you respond sarcastically, you get distracted by her words and she takes the opportunity to shove you down. She starts driving her weapon towards your chest and you hold your own sword with both hands, trying to push her away.
A scar on your neck catches her attention, itâs one she has never seen before, curiosity makes her lose her balance and you manage to turn her over, claiming victory over the match, "Iâm done," you pant.
She stays underneath you, making no effort to move, "Is that all you can handle?"
"You try going through the most traumatic mission of your life and then sword fighting the King of Asgard."
"Itâs New Asgard, have some respect for my Kingdom," she jokes.
"Right, sorry,â you feign an apology, âhowâs royalty treating you?"
"It's not a big deal," she brushes it off.
"You wear three piece suits now, that's a big deal, you look hot." You eye her up and down as you say the last part.
"Why thank you, I try."
"Tell me, did we ever"
"No, never!" she answers before you can finish your question, pushing you off to the side and sitting up, "Are you thinking about it?" Her eyes go wide.
"Would it be so wrong if I said yes?" you insinuate, amused by her reaction.
"Yes, it would be!"
"Alright I didnât say anything, youâre the one out here calling me 'Princess.'" You lift your arms in fake surrender.
"I said not to worry about it."
"Iâm not!"
You awake in a dark, cold room, this time you are able to open your eyes ever so slightly and catch a glimpse of a screen. It's a fight, dozens of the same full armored men that took you, against a single target, a golden blonde figure in a red and blue suit with a star in the middle. Like clockwork, you feel a sharp pain in your neck and fall back asleep.

David Smith at The Guardian:
Joe Biden has shown no mercy to Donald Trump with a series of barbed jokes about his election rival, telling a gathering of Washingtonâs political and media elites: âIâm a grown man running against a six-year-old.â
The White House Correspondentsâ Association (WHCA) dinner on Saturday night provided the ideal platform for Biden to continue a recent run of taking the fight to Trump with more aggressive rhetoric, cutting humour and personal insults. But the jovial mood inside the room contrasted sharply with raucous demonstrations outside the Washington Hilton hotel. Hundreds of protesters shouted âShame on you!â at White House officials, journalists and celebrities as they arrived at the dinner, condemning Bidenâs handling of the war in Gaza and the mediaâs coverage of it. As speculation about a debate between the two men intensifies, Biden â wearing tuxedo and black tie â opened his roast with a direct but joking focus on Trump, calling him âsleepy Donâ, in reference to a nickname Trump had given the president previously. âThe 2024 election is in full swing and yes, age is an issue,â noted Biden, 81. âIâm a grown man running against a six-year-old.â The president also skewered Trump over a recent speech in which he described the civil war battle at Gettysburg as âinteresting, âviciousâ, âhorribleâ and âbeautifulâ. Biden said: âSpeaking of history, did you hear what Donald just said about a major civil war battle? âGettysburg â wow!â Trumpâs speech was so embarrassing, the statute of Robert E Lee surrendered again.â
Biden then made a reference to Trumpâs falling out with his former vice-president, Mike Pence, who defied him over the 2020 election result. The president said: âAge is the only thing we have in common. My vice-president actually endorses me.â Vice-president Kamala Harris, sitting nearby on stage, laughed and applauded. The president moved on to Trumpâs criminal trial in New York, where he is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film performer Stormy Daniels. Biden said: âDonald has had a few tough days lately. You might call it Stormy weather.â
And then he brought up Trumpâs new scheme to sell âGod Bless the USA Biblesâ for $59.99. âTrumpâs so desperate he started reading those Bibles heâs selling. Then he got to the first commandment: âYou shall have no other gods before me.â Thatâs when he put it down and said: âThis bookâs not for meâ.â Biden also poked fun at his own age and delivered some one-liners at the expense of the media. âSome of you complained that I donât take enough of your questions. No comment.â
President Joe Biden delivered a masterclass at last night's WHCD, including quips about "stormy weather" in reference to Stormy Daniels and naming Donald Trump "Sleepy Don" and referring to him as a "six-year-old."
