Tsubame Naoshi's (燕 道) work and casual outfits [x]

Looking for purpose after being forced to drop out of an academically competitive high school, Tsubame made their way into Yumenosaki’s producer course. Although it was initially an impulsive decision, they slowly came to enjoy the chaos of the school. They also have free concerts, so what are they (a not-so-closeted idol fan) going to complain about?

Nowadays, they work for both CosPro and StarPro, primarily helping their units in merchandise and costume creation, as well as PR and marketing. They can’t help but tease the fans at times, intentionally creating things that’ll rouse the fanbase if it means more purchases and impressions.

(Though they might look scary at first, once you get to know them, scary will very much NOT be on the list of things Tsubame is.)

Although they’re Japanese, Tsubame’s parents are both Filipinos who work in Japan. As such, they’re pretty connected with Filipino culture (especially when it comes to food).

Because of this, they also refer to their coworkers and the idols with Filipino terms of endearment (bunso, kuya, ate, manong, tito, etc) alongside Japanese honorifics.

They’re a regular on idol gossip/speculation forums, especially those concerning HiMERU.

…Under a pseudonym, of course! They go by “zako” in said forums.

Aira may or may not have caught them several times… Oops.

Tsubame constantly indulges in Shinobu’s whims, and sometimes asks the junior to help them look for birds.

Their producer cubicle changes merchandise displayed there on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s official, sometimes it's simply merch ideas.

Big enjoyer of making their speech really dramatic.

Gets headaches really easily, and always has remedies (menthol stick, painkillers, and snacks) in their shoulder bag

They don't exactly have a fashion sense, so they sometimes tag along with the Pretty 5 when they go shopping.

Constantly suggesting (re: begging) that the idols' songs be composed by Vocaloid producers. Tsubame swears it's for PR, but everyone knows it's definitely not business-related.

Seeing my brother upset after I computed his grades & he fell short to place for Cum Laude made me sad. Although he still has 1 subject to give grades. His 1st year grades was the one who pulled his average which made him short w/ at least 0.06 to 0.07. It's quite sad 'cause I see him striving since he was always tagged as the 'pasaway' and 'easy-go-lucky' sa family. People esp those who knew us and some relatives always compare him to us which I know made him very much anxious. I know my brother's capabilities and I know how brave he was to pursue the course he wanted instead of following what our parents wanted him to take.

I hate seeing him sad. Hayyy. But it's okay, bro, everything will be fine. There is more to life than the Latin Honors. know how hardworking you are and I know you have a good future ahead. You know more things about life than me and you being streetwise will be your biggest asset in the real world. You always have me, bunso! We'll make our plans happen soon. Ate loves you much 💛

Currently Reading: Persuasion by Jane Austen. Yes, this is a historical romance book. I have never read Persuasion before, unlike Pride and Prejudice. But I can confidently say that it's just as good - at times, even better - than other Austen books I've read.

Last Series: Oh there's a lot. But the latest that I just finished was Netflix's Dark, and I can't even fangirl about it because every single fucking thing in this series is a giant spoiler. The existence of some of my favorite characters is a fucking spoiler. But trust me, it's fantastic.

Last Movie: Anime movie it is! Jujutsu Kaisen 0, my beloved. I will not say shit about it because most of my friends haven't had the chance to watch it just yet, but I'm saying this tiny bit: Yuuta Okkotsu is my sweetest, most darling bean.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Sweet. Because I'm a basic bitch. What about it? Okay, now for serious talk, I inherited my maternal grandfather's eating habits and tastes, which means I have a huge sweet tooth. I do like other tastes as well, but sweet is just chef's kiss to me.

Currently Working On: So many things at once. But apart from real life, on some OC bios and stories, as well as some drawings. In real life though, I'm dealing with a job, university acceptance, and getting my shit together before I move.

Medyo malalaki ang pagitan ng mga edad namin kung kaya’t bata pa lang ay hindi na ako malapit sa mga kapatid ko. May kani-kaniya na silang lakad sa buhay ng ako ay magkahuwisyo. Si Nanay lamang ang siya kong madalas kausap, si nanay lamang ang madalas kong kabiruan.

 

Maliit lamang ang aming barrio kaya’t halos ang lahat ng tao ay magkakakilala. Lima kaming magkakaibigan, madalas sila ang kasama ko sa paglalaro. Magkakasama kami sa paghabi ng aming kamusmusan sa malawak na kabukiran, sa mga dayami at pilapil at sa mga hitik na hitik sa bunga na mga punong mangga. Hindi na ako mapakali sa tuwing sasapit ang buwan ng Abril. Maghapon na namang makakapagbilad sa ilalim ng araw at makakaligo sa de-motor na patubig sa bukid.

Nagiging kahawig ko kasi ang bata sa pabalat ng garapon ng isang peanut butter.

 

Hindi ko maintindihan ang disenyo ng pupugayo ni Samboy. Puti lamang ito at may bilog na pula sa gitna. Pero tuwang- tuwa ang tatay n’ya, na balikbayan galing Japan.

 

Agila naman ang kay Bert. Meron pa itong tuka at matatalas na kuko… Si Bert ay sadyang malikot at s’yang mahilig makipagtalo sa amin.

 

Nakakatakot ang kay Tammy. Paniki ito, ngunit sa tingin ko ay mas kahawig ng manananggal lalo na kung pagmamasdan sa malayo.

 

Hugis medalya naman ang kay Andoy. Champion ang tawag n’ya dito… Ano kaya ang champion doon? Sa lahat, ang pupugayo n’ya ang pinakamababa ang lipad. Ngunit sangang-dikit kami ni Andoy at ako pa ang nauunang mapikon kapag pinupuna ang lipad ng pupugayo n’ya.

 

Iba talaga ang angking rikit ni Mariposa… Napakarami nitong kulay at tila may sariling buhay sa kalangitan. Para itong sumasayaw at hindi nababahala sa paglakas ng hangin. Tinitiis ko ang pagdilim ng aking paningin, likha ng matagal na pagtitig sa kalangitan. Hindi ako nagsasawa sa pagtingin sa mga lumilipad na, lalo na ang pagmasdan ang pagsasayaw ni Mariposa. Mapalad ako na magaling si lolo Sendong. Tiyuhin s’ya ng aking ina na isang matandang binata. S’ya ang lumikha kay Mariposa. Tinanong n’ya ako kung ano ang gusto kong disenyo. Sa hindi ko mawaring kadahilanan, bigla kong nasambit na minsan, iniisip ko na ako’y nakalilipad, tulad ng isang paru-paro.

 

Dalawang buwan ko lamang nakikita sa loob ng isang taon ang aking ama. Ito ay sa tuwing dadaong pabalik sa Pilipinas ang kanyang barko na kadalasan ay tuwing buwan ng bakasyon sa paaralan.

 

Madalas ay sa sabungan siya nagpapalipas ng araw. Komite rin s’ya at isponsor sa taunang palaro ng softball sa aming lugar. Sinasama n’ya ako sa mga laro, ngunit hindi ko kailanman nagustuhan ang softball, kaya’t lagi lamang akong katabi n’ya kapag s’ya ang nakatoka na mag-commentator.

 

Lumilipad ang diwa ko kahit pa maingay si tatay sa tabi ko. Naka-mic kasi s’ya at malalaki ang speakers sa paligid ng softball field. Iniisip ko palagi na hindi kumpleto ang tropa, baka tinutukso na naman si Andoy dahil kay Champion at matamlay ang kalangitan dahil wala ang kanilang bida— si Mariposa. Naisip ko tuloy na aayain ko minsan si tatay sa bukid upang maipagmalaki ko ang aking natatanging pupugayo.

 

Kaiga-igaya ang ihip ng hangin noong araw ng Sabado na iyon. Sabik na akong ipakita sa tatay ko ang aking pupugayo. Tiyak na matutuwa s’ya dito. Balita ko ay nakahiligan din ng tatay ko ang magpalipad ng pupugayo noong kabataan n’ya.

 

Tinatawag na ako ni Andoy, dala na n’ya si Champion. Nagpaalam ang tatay ko na mauna na ako sa bukid at dadaan lamang s’ya sa softball upang iabot ang mga bago n’yang bili na bola. Nawika ko sa sarili ko na mas mainam nga iyon. Lumilipad na si Mariposa at banayad na sumasayaw sa langit kapag nakita ito ni tatay.

 

Maliksi kaming kumilos ni Andoy at kanya-kanya naming pinalipad ang aming pupugayo. Naabutan namin ang iba pa naming kaibigan na nakapagpa-alagwa na. Hayun! Napakagaling talaga ni Mariposa! Lipad agad, at gusto pang kumawala sa aking kamay. Sanay na ako sa pagpapa-alagwa at paghihigpit ng pisi nito. Ako at si Mariposa ay tila ba iisa.

 

Ilang saglit pa, sa di kalayuan, nakita ko si tatay.

 

“Mariposa, magpakitang gilas ka”, nawika ko sa aking sarili.

 

Saglit s’yang huminto at kinausap ang tatay ni Samboy. Kapwa sila patingin-tingin sa langit. Siguro’y napansin na n’ya si Mariposa. Kaya’t lalo ko pang pinagbuti ang pagpapalipad nito.

 

Hindi ko inaasahan ang sumunod na kilos ng aking ama.

 

Hinablot n’ya sa akin ang bungkos ng pisi at pinakawalan si Mariposa. Dahil sa pagkabigla at pagkalito, saglit akong natigilan, ngunit ng ako’y nakabawi na at akmang hahabulin ang tuluy-tuloy na pag-alagwa ng pisi, kagyat n’ya naman akong pinigilan. Pinagmasdan ko ang kanyang mukha na may pagtatanong, ngunit galit ang nabanaag kong sagot mula sa kanya.

 

Nawala na sa aking paningin si Mariposa. Tuluyan na itong nilipad ng hangin sa kawalan. Kinaladkad akong pauwi ni tatay. Mahigpit ang kapit niya sa aking braso at leeg. Sinubukan kong kumawala, ngunit sadyang malakas si tatay.

 

Pinapasok ako ni tatay sa aking silid at pinagbihis ng damit. Sila naman ni nanay ay nag-usap. Galit si tatay. Ngunit batid ko na mas masidhi ang galit ko, kasabay din ng pagkalito. Iyon ang unang pagkakataon na hindi ako umiyak kahit pa ako ay nasaktan.

 

Doon ko lamang napagtanto, na iba pala ako. Hindi pala ako ang inaasahan ng tatay ko. Ayaw n’ya kay Mariposa. Ngunit si Mariposa at ako ay iisa. Mali pala ang inakala ko sa mundo. Ang akala ko kahit ano ka pa, malaya kang mabuhay ng ayun sa iyong kagustuhan. Hindi pala palaging makulay, maganda at masaya. Hindi pala tanggap na may mas malalim kang pagtangi sa kabaro mong kaibigan. Doon ko nabatid ang pait ng panunukso. Ang akala ko, ang mundo ay tulad ng isang Mariposa - masaya, maganda, at makulay.

Noong tag-araw din na iyon, kapansin-pansin ang pagtamlay ng pakikitungo sa akin ng aking ama. Hindi na rin ako malimit biruin at paglaruan ng aking ina. Namatay si lolo noong sumunod na tag-araw kaya’t wala ng gaganyak sa akin na magpalipad pa.

 

Dinaanan ako ni Andoy, gabi matapos ang hapunan noong tag-araw na iyon bitbit si Mariposa,. Sumabit pala ito sa isang punong mangga. Nasira na ito. Wala na ang dati nitong ganda. Nawasak na si Mariposa, ngunit hindi ang pagkakaibigan namin ni Andoy.

Ayon sa heat index na inilabas ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) pumalo na sa halos 47 degrees Celcius ang pinakamataas na lebel ng init na naitala sa bansa ngayong Abril, partikular sa probinsya ng Occidental Mindoro at Butuan City sa Agusan del Norte, inaasahang tataas pa ito hanggang 52 degrees Celcius ayon sa pahayag ng PAGASA.

Dagdag pa ni Mhaicee, may mga pagkakataong itinatabi niya ang kanyang alagang aso at itinututok sa electric fan upang mapreskuhan at hindi mahirapan o malala pa ay makaranas ng heat stress o heat stroke dahil sa labis na init na dala ng panahon.

Binigyang-diin din ng dalawang furmoms ang importansya ng pagsubaybay sa mga alaga at palagiang pag-iiwan at pagpapalit ng tubig ng mga ito upang manatiling hydrated at presko ang mga alagang hayop.

Ilan lamang sina April at Mhaicee sa napakaraming pinoy na talaga namang tutok sa kanilang mga alagang hayop, higit na sa mga pagkakataong labis na nagniningning ang haring araw.

Nobunaga : Tataaaaaay (Translation: Daaaaaad) is the main provider of the household and works a lot of long hours in the weekdays

When he has a day-off, he spends time with the kiddies, tutors them, plays sports with them, or jokes with them.

Loves to go on "Dati sa probinsya (back then in the province)" talks when he thinks any of the kids are being "señoritos" (brats)

He encourages them in their studies a lot and if one of the kids slacks off in school is prepared to be grounded severely.

He fixes anything in the house if there's a problem with any of the machines/plumbing/electric stuff when Hideyoshi brings it up to him.

Spoils the kids with kendi (candy) a lot more than he should

Hideyoshi: Inaaaaaay (Translation: Moooooom) manages the bahay (house), does majority of the chores and to keep the house clean, makes laba (laundry) twice a week, and takes care of the kids when they're sick by giving them absurd amounts of chicken soup for the whole day.

He is the one who often does the disciplining of the kids by hitting them with any of the following: tsinelas, walis, walis tambo (house slipper, broom, broom for the outside and is made of long sticks) followed by a "Hay naku mga batang pasaway!" (You stubborn kids!)

He is the suki of several palengke (wet market) stalls and goes there every early Saturday morning before the place gets crowded and cooks all the classic Pinoy dishes at home (ex: adobo, paksiw, pinakbet, sinigang, tinola, kare-kare, inihaw na bangus, etc. im hungry)

Hardly misses his favorite teleseryes or K-dramas in the channels especially when ironing

Calls for the kids by screaming any of he following: Anaaaaaaak/HOY/HUY/IKAW/Kuyaaaaa (insert name)

Forces the kiddies to eat their gulay (veggies) because it's for their own good

Says "Ay susmaryosep!" the most and is often teased by Nobunaga by it

Masamune: Panaganay (eldest child), the main kuya (older brother) in the house, and number one sakit sa ulo ni Nanay (headache of mom)

Manages to make it home a few seconds before curfew because face it, he loves hanging out with his barkada (friend group) or playing sports

Star athlete of the school and has rather average grades (enough not to incite Tatay's wrath or Inay's disappointment)

Is often found eating the street food the vendors sell outside especially balut or at the basketball court

Volunteers to get the mangoes at the mango tree at their yard when it's in season so the family has a sweet snack

Cooks when he feels like it/Inay is pagod na (tired) so when he does, it's usually a lot of foreign foods but with added Pinoy taste to it and they all taste great! Yumyum! (He claims that it's all because of the extensive cooking shows he watches at night when they come on)

Well he does dream of becoming a chef

Swears the most in the house and is the one who is often hit by a tsinelas or walis

Has brought over many girlfriends (now they're all exes) already to meet the family and whenever he brings a new one, Hideyoshi is the first to exclaim "Ay Diyos ko po, Lord." (Oh God) followed by Ieyasu muttering something about him being a babaero (womanizer)/playboy

Ieyasu : Kuya Number 2 and the emo boy of the family

Top student in his grade (which Tatay and Nanay are proud of) because he wants to enter either an international university

Ventures outside every once in a while (usually for sports or to get some of the ingredients Inay needs for whatever dish from the sari-sari store)

He often slouches (sometimes even when walking) so when they go out as a family somewhere, he is mistaken for the younger brother of Mitsunari and he is always offended by this so he straightens himself

Tries to bicker with Mitsunari but, nothing happens (obviously)

Has a lot of snarky comments up his sleeve but will only stop when Tatay glares at him or Inay points a tsinelas at him

Everyone has learned their lesson to make sure to keep a glass of cold water or yogurt nearby when he is the one who cooked the dish because granted, there will be a lot of paminta (black pepper) in there. The only time they don't do this is when he makes silogs as those are a lot milder (aka not as spicy)

Mitsunari = Kuya Number 3 and paborito ni Nanay pero sakit sa ulo rin (favorite but also the headache of Mom)

Also the top student in his grade because he wants to enter either UP or UST (two of the top universities in the Philippines) after graduating high school

Studies like his life depends on it and keeps forgetting to eat so Ranmaru has to drag him out his room

Rarely ever gets grounded but when he does, his books are taken away to his regret

His favorite kuya is Ieyasu who clearly does not like it but what can Kuya Yasu do but glare and try to bear with him.

Is teased by Masamune because there are a lot of girls who have a crush on him but nope, he's not entirely interested in dating.

Plays sports when his brothers (usually Masamune) ask him to and his favorite is badminton

Never let him near an oven because boy cannot cook to save his life

Only thing he can cook rice in the rice cooker

Loves to eat at Jollibee or have takeout from there

Ranmaru : Bunso at paborito ni Tatay (Youngest child and favorite of Dad)

Artista (performer) of the family, he can act, sing, dance, make pakyut-kyut, you name it. The one who cranks up the karaoke up when there's an extended family gathering.

His grades are average like Masamune.

Uses up all his load within a week because he's sent around 2.5k messages already

Hangs out with his barkada pretty often and is invited to the most parties/hang-outs the most out of all his siblings (Masamune once found him at a party he was in and kept a very close eye on his brother. He took Ranmaru home when the drinking started)

His favorite sport is Frisbee (has broken the window once when he was a child because he missed)

The one who gets sent out to buy Inay's ingredients the most to the sari-sari store (well, he gets to buy candy at the same time)

Freaks out when they're running out of rice. Bunso loves his rice.

Loves taho too and will tag along with Masamune to find the taho vendor walking around

Can only handle processed/canned foods/instant noodles when cooking

Has seen Tatay behead a chicken for lunch before and actually asked if he could also do it next time (Nanay forbid it once he found out about it)

Mitsuhide : Kapitbahay

Friends with Nobunaga but Hideyoshi is very iffy about him

His fridge is San Miguel beer galore and keeps a lot of wines too

Babysat the kids when they were younger but now, just teases them a lot when he's given the chance to

"Aha! Ahahaha! Nakita ko yan, sasabi ko yan sa nanay niyo sige!"(Haha! I saw that, guess who's telling your mother.")

Cue in Masamune or Ieyasu begging him not to

When they were younger, he taught them how to sports and how to properly aim and shoot with their toy guns by aiming at clothes in Nanay's clothesline

He was also the one who taught the kids how to cuss

Needless to say, Hideyoshi was furious once he found out about

How old are you?

Due to this enhanced community quarantine and the headache I endured because of the topsy-turvy sleeping schedules and projects in work and in civic engagements hitting me like a train, I am starting to tick a few of my very long list on Netflix to be able to breathe some fresh air (even figuratively because I refrain from going our of the house and yes, even getting a few rays of sunlight).

First that I hurdled in this is self-inflicted horse race (with horses being the series) is this series I added in my list a few weeks back - Interior Design Masters - a design competition of, you guessed it right, interior designers. I’ve always seen DIYs, interior design and how they do it an inspiration to be productive (so that I can go back to work). Anyways, as I was watching the competition, and while amazed with their British accent, I’ve realized that the youngest in the competition is actually the one always aligned to what the judges are expecting from the challenges. It is that same guy who has been whipping his competitors to do this and that during team challenges. 

It has come to mind, is it a cultural mindset that for them age is never an issue? nor was it experience?  but the sense someone is putting on the table?

Being that kid taught to be independent, accountable, and act as a second parent being the panganay, It has developed me to be part of decision-making round tables at an early age. The concept of being the youngest in a group wasn’t always new to me but in the Philippines, you’re scolded if you’re young, you’re naive if you’re young, you still have a lot of rice to eat if you’re young. It was no longer culture to embrace ideas from young people, at the least from what I can see. I mean, I’m not saying that I could be compared to Frank (the youngest Interior Designs Master contestant) and that I’m smart to know more than what I should about my craft but when will people ever give us the chance not only to speak but to be heard and  listened to?

Young local administrators in the country are scolded by the (old people in) national government even when they’re doing a fine job. A lot of my friends who are Sangguniang Kabataan officials say that their policies are still subject to their Barangay Captains. The bunso in our family is not asked about her opinions regarding our family decisions.

No, I’m not “age-ist” (kasi banda yon jk) but I think the need arises (AGAIN) for us to study History and shock ourselves that a lot of people in the Philippine revolution in Rizal’s time are young people. People of age who are also tagged as people of wisdom should empower us and not to scold and belittle us. I mean there’s already a handful of generations that have passed since “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” was penned and we’re still stuck in the same reality. Maybe it is because of our culture of discriminating young people why the saying has not yet borne enough fruits for it to become reality.
