Life was going well for Marinette Dupain Cheng. Adrien wasn’t her boyfriend yet, but she’d gotten to the stage where she could talk to him without falling flat on her face., She had better friends, she’s had a break from school with plenty of rest, even Hawkmoth had let up a little bit, and the whole Lila issue had almost been resolved. The key word being almost. Today was the day of Lila’s trial, the day that she had been dreading but looking forward to at the exact same time. The day that would finally decide if the girl who has tormented Marinette for months would finally be put behind bars. Marinette stood in her room, readjusting her blazer again and again, her nails fidgeting with the shiny buttons, her mind running with a million thoughts. Suddenly, she heard a knock and almost jumped at the sound before clearing her throat. “Come in.” she said, not looking away from the mirror as she fiddled with the buttons. The door creaked open as he stepped inside, softly shutting it behind him. “Are you okay?” he asked, and while Marinette almost melted at his voice, she tried her best not to show it, and instead worked on adjusting her hair, refusing to look at him. “Mari.” Adrien said softly as she avoided eye contact. “Yeah?” she said, hoping to sound confident, but instead it made her sound even more like a toddler, and she inwardly cursed that he had that effect on her. “You know, you didn’t have to be here for the court proceedings. You could have just written a testimony and asked your lawyer to handle the rest.” Marinette nodded in response, finally mustering up the courage to face his hypnotic green eyes. “I know.” the blunette said with as much confidence as she could muster. “But I have to be here.. I have to see her dragged away in cuffs and behind bars where she belongs.” The more she spoke, the more steely determination her voice had, a bold sparkle in her blue eyes that Adrien could have sworn he’d seen before. Shaking the thought off, Adrien chuckled softly. “Well, then, let’s do exactly that.” Extending an arm out, he bowed extravagantly. “M’lady.” The nickname rolled off his tongue so easily that he didn’t even notice what he said, nor did he notice Marinette got slightly stiff as he said it. “Get up you silly ca-” she said, almost as a reflex, before stopping herself as he rose up, looking at her, confused. She awkwardly giggled before falling back into fidgeting with the buttons on her blazer. Adrien placed a hand on her shoulder. “Mari, listen. What happened that night is more than enough evidence to put her in juvie, okay. And the class…well, that really wasn't your fault. If they chose to believe a liar other than the amazing Marinette Dupain Cheng, then who are we to stop them?” Marinette nodded, and as the silence continued, both of them relapsed into that night, when everything changed.

Chazzawrites Challenge|

Day 1: Introduce yourself

Hi! For the next thirty days, I'll be answering the questions from this challenge. Thanks to @chazzawrites for organizing this event!

My name's Jeanne and I'm European (not the cat breed, haha). And, what can I say. I'm a translator, and one day I hope to become an editor. I love reading as much as y'all do. I love animals, and all my early stories had animals for a cast. I love the nights and candles and the smell of the wind and almost everything that has to do with nature.

My favorite genre is fantasy, but as long as I can connect to the heart of the story, I don't mind if it's horror or romance or historical. Though sci-fi really doesn't sit well with me. I'm not one for technology.

4.9.19 // it's been a minute. Here is my monthly spread. I might move to Korea after my Masters degree. How do updates????

22.1.20 // Forcing myself to be positive this week, one of the longest weeks of my life, while I wait for job news on very little sleep.

The best way I could think to do this was to get myself a fresh journal and start planning the next chapter.

And I threw in two tiny notebooks to write down Korean vocab that I pick up along the way.

That may be a hint about the next chapter... wish me luck I'm very on edge 🇰🇷

Perhaps a bit predictable, but each one is fantasy. I generally dislike classics and am all about boosting the way underrated gems that can be found in my absolutely favorite genre.
