introspective journal prompts (with some mental health sprinkled in)
I tried to make these mostly positive, but life isn't always positive.
list ways to be kind to yourself
a moment a stranger changed your life that they didn't realize
small things in the world that are beautiful
steps forward you've taken in the last week/month/year (IT IS OK IF THEY ARE SMALL)
10 things you love about yourself
10 things you look forward to
hard questions to ask yourself
what moment in time would you go back to over and over?
what really just pisses you off right now? get it out.
the soundtrack to your life right now
something you know, something you want to know, something you have learned
draw yourself, label all the parts you love.
what is something you know is harming you but still keep around? don't feel guilty, just acknowledge it and be gentle with yourself
write a dialogue with your younger self, or a letter to them
is this what you thought your five year plan would look like five years ago?
roadmap to how you got here
pick something that makes you happy; now write a recipe for it like you're baking a cake

The Expressive Writing Paradigm-Processing Trauma
Journaling and Your Health
💛Come join our journaling community on tumblr here! 💛
Tumblr media
The “expressive writing paradigm” refers to the original study published by James W. Pennebaker in 1986–“Confronting a traumatic event: Toward an understanding of inhibition and disease.”—that has since forth launched the ongoing research on the effect of therapeutic writing on mental and physical health.
Pennebaker’s original study examined the physical and mental health symptoms of participants who were instructed to write about their traumatic events for 4 consecutive days for 15 minutes.
The study concluded that while participants experience the short-term effects of higher blood pressure and emotional distress immediately after writing sessions, the long-term effects saw an improvement of physical and mental health symptoms attributed to its cathartic effect.
Long-term effects noted decreased blood pressure, anxiety, muscle tension, pain, and stress; as well as increased autoimmune responses, sleep quality, and improved work/productivity performance.
Instructions and sample prompts:
“For the next four days, I would like you to write your very deepest thoughts and feelings about the most traumatic experience of your entire life, or an extremely important emotional issue. You might tie your topic to other parts of your life: your childhood, your relationships with others, your past, present or future. All of your writing is confidential. Don’t worry about spelling, grammar or sentence structure. The only rule is that once you begin writing, you continue until the time is up.”
Day 1:
Today, your goal is to write your deepest thoughts and feelings about the trauma or emotional upheaval that has been influencing your life the most. As you write about this upheaval, you might begin to tie it to other parts of your life. How is this event related to who you have been in the past, who you would like to be in the future, and who you are now? Do not forget that this writing is for you and you alone.
Day 2:
In your previous writing session, you were asked to explore your thoughts and feelings about a trauma or emotional upheaval that has affected you deeply. In today's writing, your task is to continue exploring your very deepest emotions and thoughts about that event, situation, or experience. You can write about the same trauma or upheaval as yesterday's, or you can choose a different one. Begin thinking about how this upheaval is, right now, affecting your life in general and perhaps whether you might be responsible for some of the effects of the trauma.
Day 3:
In your writing today, focus on the same topics you have been examining or shift your focus to another trauma or to another feature of the same trauma. Your primary goal is to continue focusing and elaborating on your emotions, as well as the thoughts about those events that are affecting your life the most right now.
Day 4:
This is the final day of the four-day writing exercise. As with the previous days' writings, explore your deepest emotions and thoughts about those upheavals and issues in your life that are most important and troublesome for you. In your writing, try to tie up anything that you haven't yet confronted. Really let go in your writing and be honest with yourself about this upheaval. Do your best to wrap up the entire experience into a meaningful story that you can take with you into the future.

9 of my favorite journal spreads from this year. I used my journal in a whole new way, and I've never felt closer to a notebook before. I'm really gonna miss it but I'm excited to see what happens next year...

🌿 || What does your study space look like?
i just redid my desk and cleaned it for this prompt i shan't lie 🥹 in my little drawer my computer sits on i've got some important papers for tracking my degree and my bujo supplies. whatever didn't fit in there i left in that little blue box. my desk is next to my cat's tree and her favourite scratcher, so we're always close to each other. my wall has my weekly schedule, some fanart i like, and a big ol diagram of a fish skeleton.
i think in an optimal world, i'd have some shelves to keep plushies on and store books/papers/art supplies in organization boxes. i'd also have a better chair, mine is one of those gamer chairs that are awful for your back.

Tried a daily prompt setup for this week of journaling. Sometimes it's nice to have somewhere to start but I don't always need a prompt. I like the way the sections look but I also found the space too small some days. Day of the week stickers are for sale in my shop if you're interested!

September cover page in my bujo and part of my bookshelves because my books look pretty and you deserve to see them.
29|08|2023
The weather here has drastically changed going from way too hot to function, reaching at least 40°C every day, to snow a couple of mountains over from where I live. Don't get me wrong I am starting to feel ready for autumn, but if we skip the season and go straight to winter and snow I will physically fight whatever snow god is responsable for it. On Sunday I went to the mountains and it was rainy and misty, and it felt like autumn was finally here, and then boom snow the day after. The weird weather changes have been effecting me ngl. The past two days I have felt weak to say the least. They have been very lazy days, and yet I feel exhausted. I have a bit of anxiety brewing in me for getting back into the uni routine, and that is probably a big cause for all of this, but even if I wanted to get back now into all of that I couldn't. There's construction workers in my house for the rest of the week at least and the noise would make any attempt at productivity useless. I have my therapy session at the end of the week, so that might help me find some clarity, balance and motivation. I should probably get back into journaling a bit, but the thought feels overwhelming, maybe I should look for some journaling prompts? (If you have any suggestions my inbox is always open, I'd love to get some help with this finding my way back to journaling).
Chill hobbit summer activities of the last few days (idk how long the summer will last, so I guess I'll have to brainstorm a new name for my hobbit autumn! Send in suggestions if you have!) :
Reading first thing in the morning
Irish practice on duolingo (and I am doing more than one review during the day? Look at me go)
Went to the mountains to enjoy amazing food (and my stomach collaborated so well? I am very proud of my belly after this summer)
Made more crochet leaves
Finished listening to an audiobook I did not end up enjoying but whatever
Started setting up my bujo for September (I made a coverpage and the calendar and I decided this month I will have a "to do" list as well as a "want to do" list)
Slowly getting into The Dragon Republic by RF Kuang (I have definitely been reading less in the past week but I am happy to take my time with this book, and now that I am over the 100 page mark I feel like I am really back imto this world)
Thinking about cooking myself a comfort meal this evening
📖: Thr Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

studyblr community prompt #2 || relaxation
how do i relax. this one is. in depth i think. my rest days are typically on saturdays; after tuition classes, and i think my ideal nighttime routine can go here as well...
ideal daily nighttime routine:
okay so this is like. not after my study but like a buildup to it i guess? i finish all my content-heavy studying before dinner, and try to spend half an hour/a full hour just doing choreo and then get dinner. until 19:30.
after dinner i try to get done any admin tasks/easy things i have like bujo and organisation, and spend an hour or two on math practices (depends on the day yk how it is.) 20:00 to 23:00 or 20:30 to 23:30. may be 2h. idk
going to shower now! simple really i dont have a very extensive thing. i may shower right after dinner as well; it depends. 20:00 to 20:30 or 23:00 to 23:30.
starting 23:30. i've been getting into tea recently! gonna boil some water on the kettle or have it iced, depending on the day. i like fruit and flower teas, herb is nice too. im not picky. i may brew some for my dad and sibling too.
come back into my room and clean up anything i threw around.
if there's no school/all-day unpredictable event going on the next day, plan that out. fill in bujo while im at it. i usually grab a small thing like a kitkat while im doing this and drink tea.
read myself to sleep at 24:00 !! :)
ideal weekly rest routine:
this is after tuition, so we start at 15:00 when it ends. i usually get a monster drink and/or a snack to bring home now.
go home with my sibling, takes an hour ish. depends really. we get home latest 16:30.
unpack and change outta my binder. standard stuff.
game/watch smth/take a nap for a few hours! up until i dunno. 18:30?
if im up to it, i work on projects at this time as well, like my dnd campaign or gifts for someone or some code.
18:30 to 19:30 i try to do some choreo if im feeling up to it. if not then i keep doing what i was earlier. this is supposed to be a very lax time.
basically the same timeline as my daily routine (im a routine fiend). i'll often replace the practice/admin work im doing with organisation or some projects im on.
sleep at 24:00 :)
this makes me sound super disciplined. im really not; im just a guy who needs routine and again these are ideals. i dont do this half the time, its js a rough guide for me to follow. i dont do this if i study late into the night as well; so yanno. thanks for the prompt !! 🤎🤎
reblog and ask if you have any questions!! i'd be happy to answer :)

Finally remembered to take pics of the journal lol (better late than never). I rounded out February with 14 books read, many of them really fun reads, but head and shoulders above the rest was You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty by @azemezi which I did on audio read by the awesome @prospertunia - I was practically feral by the end of the book bc I Had To Know How It Ended Immediately Ack. Also, justice for Joy, she’s amazing, I love her, I hope we get to see her HEA someday too 💖 My March theme comes directly from @mochibujo Patreon journaling kit - Jellyfish Ladies in Space! (There’s no “official” name, but that’s basically the inspiration 💜) I used my Prismacolor pencils to color in some of the phenomenal black-and-white cover page - it just looked too stark in my journal without the color - and various @notebook_therapy washi from mostly the Moonlit Alchemy set on the tabs (I really liked how the gray-toned lavender tapes complemented but didn’t distract from Hedda’s design - also, the @archerandolive Heliotrope Calliograph brush pen I used for the headers I lettered was an exact match to the purple in the kit💜) The three photographs are pictures I took of the jellyfish at the @montereybayaquarium on a trip in 2019. 📸 Part of why February was a great reading month was due to #blackathon2023 hosted by @jesseonyoutube_ 💕💕 I knocked out my 6th book with 2 minutes to go in the month to complete my #teamoshun prompts 🎉 And finally - in a little life update, I have hip surgery scheduled for Friday 🙃 so I have a week of CHG showers and mupriocin to put in my nose twice daily. So why not make a pretty chart to tape to my bathroom mirror? 😉 #journaling #bulletjournal #bujo #reading #readingjournal #books #bookjournal #stationery https://www.instagram.com/p/CpcCmEZg86R/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
