a mistake
pairings: loki laufeyson x reader
genre: angst, fluffy-ish ending
summary: you're the first person he goes to when trouble finds him. why would this time be any different?
your hands shook as you held your cloak closed. you stood by the bank of the river, waiting. the moon light bounced off of the water, making it sparkle in the most curious way.
a voice spoke your name urgently. you spun around, shocked by its abruptness.
he was pale. paler than usual. with a crazed look in his blue eyes.
you reached for him, "what's happening?"
he grasped onto your arms. not in a forceful way, but to stabilize himself.
"we can't be here anymore," he said with a pained expression.
you shook your head, "what do you mean?"
"please, come with me. we can go anywhere. we can go to midgard or nidavellir. we could hide away on vanaheim. just the two of us," he begged and rambled on, seemingly unaware that you had no context.
of course, it struck you when he mentioned vanaheim. you'd always wanted to visit. he knew that. it was where your mother would've raised you, had she still been alive.
"loki, we can't just run away," you had to be the voice of reason.
"i cannot stay here," he stated.
he furrowed his dark brows and you could tell he'd felt betrayed.
"why not?" you tried.
loki practically shook with frustration, "i just can't!"
you hated to see him like this, but you didn't know how to help, "why not!?"
"you're supposed to be my dearest friend. can't you just trust me?" he paced back and forth.
you walked up to him and took his hands into your own. you inhaled deeply, expecting him to do the same. after a few moments of mirroring your actions and hearing your encouragements, he began to open up.
"they lied. they all lied to me. i was never..." he choked on the words. as if they were too painful to speak. "i was never supposed to be here."
you held his face in your hands, "loki, don't say that."
his eyes stung with tears, "i'm not one of them. i'm a monster, a mistake!" he was losing all of the restraint you'd helped him build.
you hated to hear him talk about himself like that, "no you're not-"
"you don't get it." he turned away from you.
all you could do was whisper his name softly. it became so incredibly quiet. the only sound was the wind ruffled leaves of the forest trees.
you reminded him who he was. an odinson. every bit as much as his brother. as you had done many times before. but this time...it was different.
"i don't belong," he said before turning his face towards you.
it was ice blue with markings carved into his features and his eyes were a shade of blood red.
for a single moment you froze. not because you were afraid, but because you were in complete shock.
"now you see. i'm not an odinson. i'm just a coverup for another one of odin's lies and mistakes," he said softly with a bitter tone.
your heart broke for the boy and you finally understood.
"loki, no. listen to me. you are the same boy that spoke to me that day in the garden when nobody else would. the same boy that would chase me around the palace. you're the same boy who trained with me in the stadium and frolicked beside me in the fields," you reminded him.
"the color of your eyes or of your skin could never change that."
he looked into your eyes and all you saw was a broken boy. never a monster.
you slowly reached your hand up, waiting for him to stop you. when he decided not to move, you placed your hands on either side of his face once more.
fresh, ice cold tears rolled down his cheeks and onto your skin. you rested your forehead against his.
"i followed you into battle for centuries. i will follow you wherever you go now," you promised.

STARS APPEAR — Loki x fem!reader
Word count: 463.
Genre: fluff, suggestive.
His kiss was tender. The surprising coldness of his hand on your cheek sent shivers down your spine as you tasted the mead on his lips, his body pressing against yours while your back touched the soft sheets over the mattress of his bed, the black-haired prince hovering over your figure as you laid down. Your heart beating with anticipation as you broke the kiss. His fingers traced your cheek in a delicate manner. His green eyes took all the beautiful spots on your skin.
“What?” you whispered against his lips.
Loki leaned down as his cold fingers followed the skin of your neck, taking in the charm of your freckles and moles adorning your flesh. He always adored them, and how much they reminded him of the stunning view of the asgardian skies, filled with stars and the captivating constellations his mother used to talk to him about when he was a mere child. You were breathtaking.
“You’re gorgeous, my love.”
His lips traced down your cheek down to your collarbone, tasting the sweetness of your skin. Loki made sure to leave a small kiss on the beautiful freckles covering you completely. He totally worshiped them with his tongue and lips, the sweet moans and gasps falling off your mouth increasing the excitement building inside him. Your hands tangled on his hair as he kissed the valley between your breasts, still covered by your dress. The dress he especially picked for you to wear to the feast. He wanted to rip it off and worship every inch of your body as the goddess you were, just like you deserved. For him, you were the most precious creature he ever saw. And he called you his, only his.
“Loki…”
He cut you with a passionate kiss against your lips, his hands going down to your sides. “Shh,” he shushed you softly, taking the thin sleeves off your shoulders.
You chuckled against his wet mouth, the fire inside growing as he slowly requested for permission to continue further. “We left the ball a little bit early.”
“I have more important things to do,” he teased, nipping the skin of your neck. You granted him access, his tongue licking gently.
“You just came back from Vanaheim, they were celebrating you and your brother,” you smirked, your fingernails scratching the back of his fine leather suit as you felt your hips moving on its own, looking for some friction between both of you. “I thought you’d want to have some more fun out there.”
He angled himself again to look at your flushed face, covered in fine sweat.
“Believe me, love. I plan to. But I’d rather trace every perfect spot on your body, here in my bed,” he purred.
Gods, you were counting on it.

Höner/Hönir/Hœnir/Honir or how ever you spell it, is a mysterius god indeed.
Asir god of the kults rites and festive times, god of birds and most of them the stork. Hes Life giver and he who walks on the muddy lands between.
Hes rather passive and full of a mysterius nature. Hes described as tall, with long legs. Fitting sense hes also called "the fast asir". All tho hes said to be also build rather big but still handsome. All tho by some called the most timid and easy scared of the gods. Rarely chosing the sword. Maybe thats for his favor sense he is fated to survive Ragnarök.
Hes name may be related to the the old german hehōniaz and the old Greek cognate κύκνος 'swan' and Sanskrit शकुन (śakuna) 'bird of omen', this support that Hœnir was connected with the stork. This is strengthen with his epithets "langifótr" (Long-legs) and "aurkonungr" (mud-king).
Hönir, One of the first, one of the old gods. He who some say walked the beach ones and gave reason, energi and viability to humans.
Hes a wanderer who went on manny adventures with Odin and Loki in the early days of the world, before asgards great walls was built.
In Loka Táttur, Odin him and Loki try to save a young lad from a giant, Odin turn the boy in to a grain but fails, then Hönir summons great swans and turn the boy in to a feather on the swans head, but failes to hide him, leaving it to Loki to save him, but thats a story for a nother time.
After the asir and vanir war, he and Mimir was seent to Vanaheim as a prisoner of war, ambassador and king. All tho when the Vanir noticed hes wisdom was laking and indecisive when ever Mimir was not with him they killed Mimir and cut of his head, that Odin later brought back to life. What happend to Hönir after that is unknown, perhaps he stayed in Vanaheim, or returned to Asagard or perhaps he went back to wondering the muddy beaches again.
Who knows, but as the birds return for spring, i cant help but to think about this great god of mysterys.

Hayan does prompts? Hell yeah! Expect me to come up to your window like in a drive-through.
I‘d like to order FrostIronStrange. We need more of that. Something like „Why can't we ever do normal people things for date night? Like dinner, or a movie? Why jump straight to axe throwing?!“
Aahhhh okay, I’m finally feeling well enough to, like, setup a routine for answering prompts. Hope y’all enjoy stalking my page.
I do not think this is what you expected when you gave me that prompt, but oh well, this is what the muse served..
---
Tony scoffed. “Sedalia clearly doesn’t know how to have fun. He should let Egil set that moron’s wagon on fire.”
“Indeed,” Loki agreed all too gleefully, smirking as he cast a side glance at Stephen.
Stephen simply rolled his eyes and turned his focus back on the stage, watching the play.
Loki had written this original play himself, and this was New Asgard’s first ever literary and arts fest. Loki had pridefully relayed as such to Tony and Stephen when inviting them. And though the live performance theater stood under an open sky, the illusion magic was so seamless here that one would think they had truly been teleported to Vanaheim.
The two Vanir characters on-stage bore striking resemblance to two certain people Stephen knew... Egil was intelligent, a curious creature, always ready to learn new things, always trying to push everyone and his own limits with his acts. Sedalia was unmatched in healing and rune magic, always the wiser of the pair, always pulling Egil out of the holes he dug himself.
Tony had been commenting non-stop since the very beginning of the play, and Stephen didn’t think he had seen Loki this giddy since Thanos’ attack.
A smile grew on his face as he listened to Tony’s commentary. He was pretty sure that they were being annoying to the Asgardians sitting near them, but he couldn’t bring himself to care.
Soon, however, they were interrupted by a loud chorus of cheer from somewhere to the left of the theater.
Stephen and Tony turned to look what was happening, and found that there was an axe throwing competition not far away from the theater. Stephen was mildly annoyed; who would put that in a literary and arts fest?
Asgardians.
He shook his head and focused back on the stage; Tony did the same. Egil and Sedalia were being creepily stalked by a light elf in the dense forest.
“I’m calling it, it’s the third MC,” Tony said.
“You sound too confident about it,” Loki replied. “He could be the antagonist.”
“Nah. Pretty sure the antagonist is that big ugly guy we saw at first with the sob story of his planet dying.”
There were loud cheers again, interrupting their immersion. Stephen could feel irritation rising up in his chest. Tony turned to look again, Stephen didn’t even bother, his eyes fixed on the light elf who was sneaking closer and closer to Egil and Sedalia, building up a thrill scene. Tony then craned his neck further to their back, which made Stephen frown and turn around as well.
Some of the people were leaving the theater.
They were leaving to go to that cursed axe throwing competition.
Tony and Stephen shared a look, then glanced at Loki sitting on Tony’s other side. Loki’s eyes were on the stage, watching his characters, but they both knew he had to be knowing what was happening.
Stephen leaned down to whisper, “Their loss.”
Tony inclined his head in agreement. This play was a masterpiece, and anyone willing to leave it halfway was a fool.
Tony went back to rambling about the scene. “He’s not as good at hiding as he thinks he is. Sedalia clearly knows he’s there.”
“He is excellent at hiding,” Loki refuted. “This simply proves how adept Sedalia is at his magic and sensing his environment.”
On-stage, Egil was rambling much like Tony was right now, while Sedalia subtly put himself between Egil and the light elf, interpreting the new presence as a threat. His hands lit up with magic. Now he was outright glaring the light elf’s way, provoking him.
But the light elf did not move from his hiding spot, curiously observing the healer.
Sedalia raised his hand to cast a blast of magic, and then—
Loud applause boomed through the air a third time, it was so loud that it even drew the actors’ attention and they turned their heads towards the source, play and roles forgotten.
There, at the target zone, Thor stood bellowing in victory with both hands in the air. On the wooden target, the axe was lodged right on the bullseye.
The actors quickly remembered the roles they were supposed to be playing. Sedalia attacked the light elf, who got hit square on the chest and landed flat on his back.
All the actors froze at that.
Which meant that it was unscripted. Which meant that the light elf actor was supposed to dodge it, but failed.
Tony facepalmed, while Stephen just shook his head in pity for the poor performers. Loki, though..
Loki looked to be at the precipice of losing his patience, face carefully kept neutral, but eyes radiating fury.
“Forgive me,” Loki spoke, suddenly getting up from his seat, and turned to them. “I’ll return shortly.” And with that he strode away in quick steps.
Both of them called out to Loki, but their calls were not acknowledged. They turned to each other.
“What are the odds that someone will be murdered tonight?” Tony asked.
“I’d say pretty high,” Stephen replied.
They both got up in unison and ran after Loki.
It was fair bit of struggle to wade through the crowd of Asgardians now gathered around the target zone, watching and cheering. Eventually Stephen got annoyed enough that he started to fling people out of their way with magic. Tony watched him with amusement. Stephen didn’t feel bad in the least; besides they were Asgardians, they could take a bit of being flung around.
Arriving at the heart of the target zone which was empty but for a few people — a stark contrast to the large circle of Asgardians completely surrounding its boundaries — they saw Loki standing aligned to a target. Thor stood off on a side, a somewhat sheepish look on his face, as he observed Loki. Oh yeah, Thor was definitely the culprit responsible for this competition.
A man came to Loki, handing him a large axe. Loki held it, scrutinized it, then promptly tossed it away towards the sky without looking. The axe landed somewhere behind the crowd, destroying something by the sound of it. Stephen hoped no one got hurt, but there were no shouts of pain, so it was likely okay.
Loki summoned one of his blades in a hand. He let his magic flow through it, tendrils of brilliant green snaking around the blade. His weapon transformed, the hilt growing longer, the blade splitting to two that both grew out into two large, heavy, symmetrical wings. Loki’s axe looked magnificent and perfectly balanced in his grip.
He positioned himself a distance away from the target, but wait.. there was more magic. Stephen squinted, trying to guess what, exactly, was Loki aiming for here.
Hopefully not his brother.
Loki swung his axe with an impossible amount of power. It flew into the target and shattered it into pieces, but didn’t stop there. It continued, destroying the protective barrier behind it, then the backup barrier behind that, and finally crashed into a stall of weapons before its momentum died. Stephen thought he saw broken pieces of several axes scatter all over the ground from the impact.
For a moment, all of New Asgard seemed to fall in utter silence.
Then everyone cheered deafeningly loud for Loki.
(And if Stephen knew of Loki’s foul play with magic, he didn’t point it out.)
His shoulder were slightly shaking with restrained laughter as Loki haughtily made it back towards them, while Tony had that smug smile on his face that spoke ‘Good job!’
“Ah yes, axe throwing,” Tony said dryly, “How romantic. Why didn’t I think of that first?”
“Clearly your genius doesn’t extend—”
“Loki!”
The trio turned in unison to where Thor stood by the (now destroyed) stall of weapons, holding an axe which was no longer an axe; both its wings had fallen off.
“You’ve destroyed all the axes!” Thor shouted over the cheer of the crowd.
“Whaaaat? I can’t hear you!” Loki yelled back, then quickly turned to them. “It seems the play is getting postponed, how do you feel about something else for date night?”
“How about some axe throwing?” Stephen snarked.
Loki turned to see Thor rapidly approaching their group, then turned back to them and grabbed each of their arms. “Beloved, your portals could be really useful right about now.”
“Hey hey, what’s the rush?” Tony said with barely restrained laughter. “I want my turn at this now.”
“Yeah, Loki, even the Cloak wants to try.”
“Loki!” Thor was almost here.
Loki looked back at his brother once, then focused back on his partners and let his magic flow through them, preparing to teleport all three of them together. Stephen finally took pity and opened a portal under their feet, dropping them in their personal quarters in the Compound and closing it after. The last thing they saw through was Thor’s raged expression.
Tony burst out in laughter.
Loki just scowled at Stephen for a moment, feigning betrayal. The Cloak reached up for Loki with a corner and patted his cheek. Loki swatted them away in offense.
“Can we ever, for once, have a normal date night?” Tony asked, half his body lying flat on their bed when he was done with his laughing fit.
“At least this was entertaining,” Stephen commented, sitting next to him as the Cloak flew off his shoulder. “And there were no villains interrupting us.”
“I don’t know, pretty sure Thor easily qualifies for that role here.”
Stephen considered it, then agreed. “Okay, he does.”
“And he got served justice.”
Stephen snorted.
Loki was slowly pacing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, a scowl on his face. He spoke nothing.
“Oh come on here pouty face,” Tony beckoned him.
“I’m not pouting,” Loki said, clearly pouting.
Tony and Stephen shared a look.
He’s a total drama queen.
Yes, he is.
They both got up and took an arm of Loki each, dragging him towards the bed.
“Y’know, we still have some other, very exciting activities for date night,” Tony whispered seductively, making Loki sit down on the bed. “Isn’t that right, Sedalia?”
“Yes, Egil,” Stephen agreed, snapping his fingers. All the windows of their room turned opaque. “And no one will be around to interrupt us for it.”
Loki huffed, his previous bad mood disappearing but still trying to be difficult about it. “Fine, only because I want to stop thinking about that oaf that sabotaged my play.”
“Oh, that’s very easy, babe,” Tony said, pushing Loki down on bed, and Stephen added, “By the time we’re done, you won’t be thinking at all.”

The Ragnarok war prolouge
During their rise towards the interstellar age humanity completely killed their own home. The capitalistic greed poisoned the air, the seas, the land, their minds, everything. Around the year 2500 of their Christian calendar the population dwindled rapidly, because of famine, drought and the last resources were depleted.
This is why humanity was forced to the stars, building enormous life ships to evacuate as many people as possible. Those crude behemoths barely held together and without any ftl technology they started their long journey towards the planet chosen as their new home: the Ygdrasil system.
So, for many generations humans lived in their self-inflicted colony of ships and their outlook on life and society surprisingly changed. Everyone had expected that the rich would keep their luxurious levels to themselves hoarding knowledge and resources as they had done on earth, but after a few generations they started to share and work towards the good of everyone. Finally, humans left behind their greed and exchanged it with passion and love, knowing they all faced the same fate if the mistakes of the past would be repeated.
Once Midgard was reached a society was in place, that the people from the 21st century would have called solar punk, and the planets Midgard, Alfheim and Vanaheim were settled in a symbiotic way with nature. During this time the intergalactic council reached out to humanity, congratulating them for their advancements and offering them a place among the many species for trade and exploration. The humans agreed, happily sharing their technology, and trading their fine art and the crops they had to share.
The next century went by, and it was a time of prosperity for all the races, until the ksis'tor had a change in their government and decided that their occupied space wasn't enough anymore, and they started conquering the neighbouring systems. When they came closer to the Ygdrasil system, humanity send ambassadors in their beautiful and unarmed ships, but the Ksis'tor just shot them down.
After that incident humanity gave every foreign ship half a rotation to leave their part of space, after that every craft was grounded indefinitely. After that it took only 5 rotations that the human controlled space was inrecognisable. On their planets many concealed bunkers opened and out of there came things that we believe are the remnants of their journey to Ygdrasil: Large and heavy armoured vessels, armed with antique and modern weaponry. The whole system turned into one fortress with no way in or out.
I am one of the few ambassadors that didn't leave. I asked a human general yesterday why they were that good prepared for war and he just said: "We lost Earth... we won't lose another home."
The Ksis'tor don't know what they are getting into.

could you write heimdall falling for a midgard human reader and him being really protective over them 🥰
heimdall x midgard&human!reader
[masterlist]
tags: fluff, injury, wound, healing, protective!heimdall, kissing, touching. enjoy!
wc: dunno, but not so long.
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
heimdall never mind your presence in the asgard even though you were a mortal; a midgard human who was in all-Father's service thanks to high-quality medical treatment you give to aesir gods and goddess by using a high level magic. being a mortal didn't make you weak, it made you powerful. you were indeed a mortal who would die in some day, one of the things that make heimdall so protective of you, but it didn't mean you were invisible to eyes. no, everyone in asgard knew you, they knew how you treated wounds and pain with your delicate hands.
in the first years that felt like ages were normal. he was joking with you wherever he saw you, you were teasing to him whenever he came to your treatment place, asking if he needed a medic like anyone could hit him.
that was making him angry in that days but slowly, he understood how he enjoyed your presence, hearing your teasing since there wasn't so many individuals who could tease him without thinking its consequences, seeing how your delicate and beautiful hands working fastly and strongly.
you were a strong woman indeed but because of being in love with you, his protective side increased from day to day, 'till it made both of you realize it like the sunlight.
you remembered how you asked him about this after a certain day. in that day, you were trying to heal an outsider god, probably from vanaheim, who had a bad chest injury. vanaheim and asgard were enemies but sometimes they came to here to find health. odin was giving them home in their own realms since he was trying to show his peace supporter side.
why you were in the asgard was complex. you didn't like odin that much, no, but indeed you loved heimdall who became your beloved with time.
as this stranger entered to your working room, you were talking with heimdall who came to you intentionally but acting like he didn't realize how he ended there.
one valkyrie helped man to reach the room and the moment he entered with a bloddy shirt on, you gently cut the conversation with heimdall and rushed towards the man.
whenever you saw someone in pain, your heart was shaking because of feeling so bad. no matter who they were, you felt the same.
so, when you saw the man in pain, moaning lowly, hardly finding his place on the bed you designed for patients. valkyrie left the room as she saw heimdall after giving the information about the man's wound, how he got that and where he got that. she even told where he was from.
after hearing vanaheim, heimdall suddenly came to your side as you kneeled down to bed's level in order to do a better treatment for the man's wound as you picked up his shirt's edges.
"sir," you said, trying to take man's attention, "you need to take this off I am afraid."
he nodded silently, getting a little up to remove his shirt, tossing it to floor, closing his eyes in pure pain.
the wound was occurred because of a magic - magic that had poison in it.
working on his wound, touching his build chest, you heard heimdall's voice behind you.
"do you need to touch that?" he was referring to your hands on the man's chest, traveling around it to break the magic firstly. he didn't like when you both interacted a dangerous magic with poison in it and touched another man even if it meant for medical care.
"don't. he needs a treatment now. we can speak later."
giving him an angry look, you turned to the man again as his eyes began to open slowly, feeling better after you broke the spell.
taking a deep breath, you began to heal the open wound that created by a sharp sword as valkyrie said before. your hands were traveling on man's chest when his hands suddenly held your wrists roughly, making you cry in sudden pain you felt.
before you or the man say something, heimdall's sword found its way on the man's neck, speaking with a deep and dangerous voice, he said, "leave her or I will cut your head."
the man who looked so confused and afraid left your wrists slowly, breathing deeply.
as your hands found their freedom, you gently touched heimdall's shoulder. "it's okay. he is in shock. it's understandable. so, take back the sword."
heimdall's angry purple eyes looked at him for a few times before putting his sword back in his place, taking a step back to give you a space to finish your treatment.
you told the man how he ended in here while giving him last treatments he needed.
he nodded, looking at your hands shyly, "I am sorry."
giving a little smile, you said, "It's okay. now rest in here for some time. when this blue marks on your chest dissappear, you can leave." getting up, you gave him a bottle that had some herbs in it to boost his health. "take this and drink it before getting up. the wound will heal with time."
he nodded, taking the bottle. "I am glad for your help. thank you -"
"y/n." you said.
"thank you y/n."
then he closed his eyes to rest without sleeping.
you turned to heimdall who was watching you in pure annoyance. he never liked how you treated outsider. he didn't trust them. whenever there was an outsider you had to heal, he was being so protective over you. but, this had to be talked between you two. so, you held his hand, knowing very well he would let you - maybe letting you only even to touch him openly, then, you walked 'till you reached your personal room that was close to the your working room but had two corridors between.
closing the door behind, you turned to heimdall who began to play with your medical supplies one by one like he didn't know why you came to here, like he didn't read your mind at all.
"heimdall." you said, standing right behind his back, leaving just an inch to touch him. he turned his head a little, making you see his side profile which was looking so attractive and good. his purple eyes traveled on your face as you touched his shoulder with your chin, making your faces standing so close to each other.
it was so good to be able to looking at his eyes this close.
"why are you doing this? I am not all-father, you know it. you need your protection, not me."
you left his shoulder, going to your bed that had a high level, reaching till your knees. sitting on it, you heard heimdall's low voice.
"no." he said, approaching you. "no." he said again, more sure this time.
"what?" you asked the moment he reached your bed, standing right in front of you. when his stomach were on your eye level, his hand touched your cheek, lifting your head higher to make you make a contact with his eyes that made your heart warming and beating faster.
"I need to protect you too." he said, slowly caressing your lips with his thumb, making you close your eyes. "not only all-father has a space in my heart."
a question hit your mind, creating a huge blow that was full of hope and happiness; was he confessing his love?
"I couldn't imagine how much you would meant for me, but, here we are sweetheart; you are being in my heart with a huge space."
yes, he definitely was!
you opened your eyes to see his smiling one. heimdall who was cocky, the only one you had in asgard, in your life, confessed his love - he had a love for you.
not believing this, you tried to say," heimdall - "
then, he kneeled down, connecting your lips together with a joy that he brought with it, transferring it from his lips to your heart.
moaning shyly, your hands placed on his shoulders, pulling him closer. you realized how you waited for this moment - for so long. you really love him before he even realized your presence. you loved every detail he had. you loved how you waited for him to visit you in your room, every one of them, and you loved how he treated you differently than others, closer and further.
so, when you finally had him, it took a great time to leave him.
when you broke the kiss finally, he smirked, not leaving your side, being close still.
"I love you." you said, feeling a huge joy. "I love you entirely heimdall."
"I know sweetie, I know."
taking deep breaths, you asked, "so that's why you were so protective, huh?"
"about time your brain works cutie."
slapping his shoulder, you rolled your eyes, "how you can expect me to understand your, well, complex behavior."
"I can end every man's, woman's, creature's life that has a threat to your being. I kill thousands just for you - just for knowing you are safe and well. is it the complex behavior, huh, dummy?"
smiling to him, you held his golden hair, caressing it gently," now you talk, huh, cocky?"
he left a smirk lastly before kissing you again, "and now, I will act."
this was the last thing you remembered from that day, following with lots of unholy things with it.
since that day, heimdall always found his way to sneak into your rooms to well, doing lovely and nasty things while protecting you from everyone, having a protective behavior with the love he felt for you in his heart.
the end.
| The All-Father |
okay but what if after ragnarök kratos wasn’t the dad of boy but a dad of all?
or how kratos became the all-father.
He doesn’t know how it happened, nor who started it, but only weeks after Ragnarök he finds the first altar dedicated to the All-Father.
“Blessed is the realm, which hosts the just Allfather.
Blessed are the people, who walk the same paths as the mighty Allfather.
Blessed is the land, devoid of monsters because of the fearless Allfather.
Blessed are the days, after Ragnarök with the reforged Allfather.
We pray to you, Allfather.
Accept our gifts and bless us, in our new days.”
The altar wasn’t grand nor made of stone, it was wooden yet sturdy, already overflowing with flowers, stones, herbs and other trinkets that could be found in the early Spring.
Kratos frowned at the runic text once more, before heading off his own way. Was it in the past, he might have destroyed it, huffing at the blindness the human possessed when it came to the gods, who would never stop to read their little messages, nor their prayers.
But now, he leaves it alone, knowing that after Fimbulwinter and Ragnarök, they needed something to believe in. Or someone, whoever the so-called reforged All-Father was supposed to be.
He means to speak to Mimir about it, but once he is home, he remembers that the head was with Freya. Advising in Vanaheim as the tensions between the Aesir and Vanir grew heated.
Perhaps, he should join them in a day or so. He surely knew little of politics, but perhaps he could at the very least aid his companions in some other way.
Glancing around his home, his amber gaze lingered on the bed not far from his own. It was tidy and unmoved, from when Kratos remade it in the morning.
It was a habit which he developed since Faye’s passing. Atreus always forgot to make his bed look presentable, or at the very least not a complete mess. He tried many times, showing his boy how to do it, but in the end all of his training was lost on Atreus. In the end, Kratos tidied it up for him in the mornings, right after taking care of his own space. And even now that his boy is gone… he still wakes up, cleans his bed and remakes the already perfectly tidied up bed.
Kratos reasoned to himself often that he doesn’t like to change his routine. That he doesn’t want bugs to build a nest underneath the furrs.
But all that wasn’t true.
He remade the bed every morning because he missed his son. Because he wanted Atreus to come back and sleep in a clean bed. Because leaving the bed alone made him think too much about how long his boy was gone.
Blinking he let out a shaky breath and hung up his axe, tearing his gaze away from the empty spot Atreus’ leaving left in the hut.
It’s two days later, just as he makes his way to Týr’s temple, to transport himself to Vanaheim, that he finds another altar.
“I call to the Allfather, great God of War,
father to Loki, the great and just General of Realms.
Yours is the realm of justice, of strength, of judgement, of rebirth.
Yours is the hand that guides those in darkness, the axe that cuts the unjust.
Grant me, O Allfather, the justice for my child.
Grant me, O Allfather, the strength to smite down the one who took her.
Grant me, O Allfather, the judgement for his devious soul.
Grant me, O Allfather, the will for rebirth once the revenge has left me.”
It is him… the All-Father that the alters are mentioning.
Rage builds up as he reads the prayer, thoughts of Calliope and Atreus filling his head. Someone killed another’s child, and Kratos wills it with everything he possesses that they meet a grim end at the child’s parent’s hand.
It is hard, but he moves on. Doing his best not to think about him being called and prayed to as the All-Father. It will pass. Týr will come back from his journey and all will be well, he will take charge and be the beloved god again. All while Kratos retires back to his hut.
“It will pass.” he whispered to himself, leaving the altar behind him, trying not to shiver as he felt an echoing rage of another in the back of his mind, clinging to their right to seek revenge.
It will pass. He thought to himself, while in the middle of settling an agreement between Aesir and Vanir, feeling an echoing sense of relief from those around, all synced in thanking for the unheard prayer for peace being enacted.
It will pass. He said to Mimir and Freya as together they found an altar, in Vanaheim no less, reading the plea for the great beast, that Kratos just ended, to be slain.
It. Will. Pass. Kratos hissed under his breath, leaving the Lake of Nine in haste as a grand statue of the All-Father was being constructed.
It will pass.
“It doesn’t have to.” said Atreus, now a man grown, as tall as his father, as kind as his mother, as strong as Freya and as wise as Mimir. His son just stared at him, before nodding down at the lively new villages around the Lake of Nine, from where they sat together on top of a cliff.
“You earned this, father. Accept this as you accept their pleas and prayers. Allow yourself to have this purpose and for them to finally have an All-Father that listens. That walks among them with the same worn down hands and the same troubled mind. Don’t let it pass, father. Embrace it.”
Atreus smiled and reached out to touch his father’s chest “The God of War can retire for now, while the All-Father takes his post for a little while.”
Kratos cupped his son’s hand and squeezed it, nodding slowly and echoing quietly “Only for a little while…”
His son smiled and agreed “Only for a little while.”
Looking at the new settlements and the grand statue of the All-Father, Leviathan Axe and Gjallarhorn in his hands, Kratos nodded again.
It will pass… but it doesn’t have to. The God of War retires, while All-Father takes his post… but only for a little while.
Hundreds years later, all still pray and speak of one true All-Father only. The one that had both eyes, a mischievous son, bore an axe that rivalled Mjölnir and was a General that led all Nine Realms against the false God Odin in Ragnarök.
A little while can last quite a long time, it would seem
- Unwinding The Ties
Freyr x Original Female Character
Warnings: Smut +18 ONLY
Vali. A name once, her name. But now it was more of a command. Uttered to instruct, to demand. She hated hearing her name from the lips of her supposed family. The ones who looked at her with scorn, with confusion. Odin with his expectant stare, always watching her like an owner waiting for the dog to perform a trick. She loathed the way her name sounded from him.
But not with Freyr. She longed to hear her name spill from his lips. Heavy on his breath, a curse and a prayer. Her name has never sounded as sweet. Hands slide through her hair pulling her away from his lips before he can suffocate.
It was just another way to rebel against her father at first, her and Freyr. It started with long walks through Vanaheim. Carrying herself through the forests with the same self-importance and entitlement as her father. Not only to get away from the dull everyday of Asgard, but to prove to herself that not only could she do anything she liked, but that she had the balls to.
And to prove that the All-Mighty Odin couldn’t control her movements, and the wise god was none the wiser to her ventures.
And when she met the Vanir prince, who had initially been hostile to her, she realised she could spite the All-Father even more. Freyr and her saw in each other the same pain that only victims of similar experiences can. Both of them were missing something Odin had torn from them. Both wearing the scars of his cruelty. His burn marks, and her adult form. This silent understanding made them fast friends.
And so she slipped them intel on Aesir movements to help him with the war. And by doing so advancing her silent rebellion against the All-Father.
And sleeping with Freyr? The All-father’s daughter with the prince of the Vanir? It brought a smile to her face.
Soon, it became more than a simple beneficial relationship. Soon Freyr saw an Aesir working against her people, and respected her. He saw a daughter immune to her father’s infamous manipulations and admired her.
When she would slip through the realms to his humble camp, he’d insist she stay for food and drink. Welcome her presence at the campfire and encourage her to sing and dance with the rest of his people. She was more than a tool, and that had been a first.
Vali had never been a child for more than a day thanks to her father. And so never developed that fantastical idea of romance that forms from hearing stories and that sticks with you until you mature. Building up expectations and hopes that will soon be crumbled by the reality of men. She had been stuffed with the experiences and intellect of an old, wizened man. And so she saw people as pawns. As means to an end.
Perhaps that was the only reason she was not so quick to bend to the whims of her father unlike her brothers. In many ways, Vali was Odin. And only Odin knew what a fraud Odin was.
Freyr changed that. He gave the experience she had always lacked yet unknowingly craved. Human connection.
“Vali,” He whispers into her skin. His nose nudges at her chin to look up, to which he immediately trails a journey of kisses along her jawline. Suckling on the skin. “Don’t go yet,”
“Hmm,” She notes the smile pressing into her skin as her hum vibrates in her throat and against him.
“I mean it,” A light nibble on her neck. She knows his game by now, luring her further into him by doing everything she likes. To stall her return to Asgard.
“And if Odin realises I’m gone? How do I explain my absence?”
Freyr’s arms snake round her waist, letting her know he really has no intention of letting her slip away. “You’re wiley enough to come up with a story,”
At this point, the warmth travelling through her has lulled her into complete laziness. She wants nothing more than to push Freyr onto the floor, knowing that if she left for Asgard now she would be unbearably cold.
“I was taken hostage by an impossibly charming Vanir,” She starts. “He had me trapped by force. I could not hope to get away,” Her arms shimmy to his elbows, pulling them so his arms tighten around her. “Then…he interrogated me relentlessly for an hour…”
“Not all night?” He pulls away from her neck briefly to shoot her a knowing smirk. A smirk which sends a shock of excitement through her.
“My, my. Freyr of the Vanir is not easy on his prisoners, is he?”
Freyr laughs, a sound she wishes she could bottle and take home. “That’s my girl. See? How could Odin see through that?”
Upon hearing her father’s name again, a wave of frustration spurs her next movements. She struggles out of Freyr’s iron grip. And the look of worry on his features is quickly broken when Vali pushes on his chest. Sending him on his back and huffing on impact, with her hurriedly straddling him.
“Enough about Odin. I come here to get away from him…”
Freyr puts a hand over his heart. Feigning offence. “Not for any other reason?”
“Well…” Vali leans over him, her lips but a hair’s width from his own. “There might be other reasons. But suddenly, my memory is so…hazy?”
Fingers snake behind her neck, nails lightly digging into the nape pulling her to close the gap between them.
“Let’s jog your memory then, sweetheart,”
They’re lucky Freyr’s portion of camp is removed from the rest. Hugging the edges as Freyr liked to be the first line of defence should they be attacked.
That was her Freyr, always thinking of others. That extended to the bed covers as well. He was no selfish lover, always tending to her needs before even letting her think about touching him down there.
Her robes come off quickly, leaving her chest bare with only slithers of her skin covered by the myriad of chains and rope that dangle from her neck. Freyr’s hands languish over her stomach, over her ribs, trailing an agonisingly slow trail until they come to where she desires them. Fingers rubbing over her budding nipples as she sighs into his mouth. Her necklaces clinking against his adventurous hands as she licks at his bottom lip telling him what a good job he is doing already as her fingers dig into the dirt beside his head.
Before Freyr opened her eyes to it, sex had never been a point of fascination before. She knew what it was of course. Yet any enthusiasm was eclipsed by her father’s attitude. Rotten by the idea it merely served as reproduction, as a means to continue his line.
All of his attitudes were ingrained into her. Attitudes Freyr was slowly unwinding…
Freyr loved her with the devotion of a worshipper. Gazing upon her like art, touching her like she was woven of the finest silk, lapping at her like wine to be savoured and devoured…Her one and only worshipper. The only one she would ever need.
“Freyr,” Vali whines as too much attention was on her breasts and not enough on the pooling heat that was between her legs. She pulls away and Freyr gazes upon the jewellery adorned along her chest in amazement.
“Yes?” He says breathless. Still not meeting her gaze as his hands continue to fondle.
“Don’t act coy now…” Her cheeks flush over her embarrassing whine. Her hand clasping over the one that has her breast in his palm. He was going to be mean, wasn’t he? Satisfied that he had been successful at convincing her to stay. Well, she could not have that.
“I’m no mind reader, Vali,” He leans forward. Kissing the valley between her tits. “Tell me what you want,”
I'm glad you are not. She thinks briefly, before shaking those thoughts out of her mind as Freyr bites her other breast. Abusing it with tongue and teeth.
“What I want?” She gives an experimental roll of her hips. Feeling his hardening member just as she expected. It made her chuckle that the God of fertility would become hard so quickly. Fitting she supposed. “Silly boy, you know what I want,”
He groans into her, biting harder out of impulse which rips a whine from her throat and a hand snapping to his head.
“What’s the saying? All good things come to those who wait?” He murmurs.
“I have one for you too, since when have you known a God of Revenge to be patient?”
Her hands clutch his long chestnut locks and pull him forcefully away from her chest. Her skin throbs from pain that would burn blue come morning, yet she loves the way her flesh burns from the scrape of his teeth and the suction of his lips. A delicious kind of pain.
Vali looks down at him, her eyes hooded with the same intensity she reserves for battles she knows she’ll win. At first, he simply remarks on his handy work with a smug grin. Staring at her chest like an artist reviewing his work. Until he finally looks up, caught under the gaze, his smile shifts from pride to excitement.
“Is that what you want?” He tilts his head. “Revenge for making you feel this way? This good?”
She rolls her hips again hard, feeling his cock twitch underneath her, answering his question.
Perhaps the rest of Freyr’s company could hear her shouts as Freyr’s lips land on her sex as soon as they rid themselves of their clothing. How she croons loudly as his tongue finally entered her after tackling the many layers to his attire. But she doesn't care if all the nine realms heard her. Sex was blissful, it was raw and intense and damn it if she was going to restrict her journey of it by being silent.
Freyr seems to agree. Lapping at her sex more intensely as if her cries were not loud enough. As if his efforts were not appreciated enough. His hand stroked her inner thigh tenderly, while another pressed against her stomach. Keeping her from writhing away from his attentive mouth.
“Fuck!” She thrusts against his mouth as her eyes squeezed shut. Solely focusing on the alien yet pleasurable feeling of Freyr’s tongue entering her over and over and over again.
“That’s it, come on…” He encourages softly. Turning his attention to her clit. Sucking diligently while wrestling her bucking hips with the ease of a man merely enjoying a meal.
When she opens her eyes to peer down out of curiosity, she is not ready for the sight of Freyr down there. Hooded eyes watching her intently as he eats her out. Nor the complete bliss in his face as he registers her awareness. She was taken aback by the expression, that she alone was the one to make him look like that. And soon her thighs clamp over his head, fingers scratch at his scalp, and finally heavy waves of ecstasy befall her. His mouth is still working with her as she rides out the high.
Freyr removes his mouth from her once her body stops writhing, wiping his lips with the back of his hand he starts making his way to her lips. Peppering kisses here and there and nipping along her stomach and chest along the way. Happy at how dishevelled and content she looked beneath him. He gives her lip one kiss, the tip of his nose lightly brushing hers.
She catches her breath, cradling his neck lovingly as she pecks his lips back. “Not bad,”
He snickers, bumping their foreheads together. “Not bad? Is that it?”
“What do you want? A review?”
“Couldn’t hurt. I barely get compliments anymore,”
She grins up at him, feeling bold and slightly guilty, she draws her hands downwards till they land on Freyr’s shoulders. His skin is hot and glowing beneath her fingertips like a molten furnace. Slowly she pushes him onto his back with her above him like they were before.
She likes it this way. Peering down at him when he is in the throws of passion. She watches him organise battles and missions all day hunched over that damn war table. The weight of his world on his shoulders. Vali wants to take control away from him, allow him to simply enjoy this without worrying about taking over.
She reaches down; taking hold of him and stroking slowly. “I can think of something better than compliments,”
Freyr’s breath come quickly now. “Hah…so can I,”
A few pumps, enough to get Freyr to roll his head back in pleasure, and she starts to line him up with her entrance. Merely stroking herself with the tip for the moment, just to elicit a few whines from his beautiful lips, before sinking down on him.
She’ll never grow tired of that feeling fullness he gives her. Like a piece slotting into the right place, like he was scratching an itch she didn’t know she had. She pants as she takes him all the way, smiling as Freyr’s hand grabs at her hips to steady her yet this be over before it truly begins.
She gives him a moment, and when he finally looks up at her, she’s taken aback by how beautiful he is. Sure, Vali noticed Freyr’s beauty when the two of them met for the first time. She noted how he seemed to personify Vanaheim, with his natural grace and easy charm, his untamed hair adorned with feathers and beads from the land. But this was a different sort of beauty. It was one only she was allowed to witness; of his parted, puffy lips and blown out eyes. His dishevelled hair like a halo around his head. It was unique to her, allowed only to her. And therefore so much more valuable than the beauty of an eclipse.
She begins to move, keen to watch every expression flash across his features. Freyr huffs, trying hard to maintain eye contact yet his head kept rolling back from the pleasure as if manipulated by a magnet. Skin slapping on skin in a delicious symphony
“Freyr…I-” She can feel her abdomen clenching with ecstasy as she huffs. Building up like a hot ball in her stomach as his member thrusts in and out of her at hurried speed. She’s set on unwinding with him yet he seems to be unwinding her faster than she can comprehend. As if her body has a mind of its own, slamming her hips down all the faster as she chases that high.
Freyr gets other ideas however, wasting no time in securing her waist in his arms as soon as he senses her closeness. Tossing her over easily onto her back like she weighed nothing while still moving inside her. She yelps in surprise yet is very quickly muffled by his lips melding against her. All the while he keeps a brutal pace deep inside her.
“Fuck!” He sobs, burying his face into the crook of her neck as she wraps her arms around his shoulders. Doing everything in her power not to scratch at the rippled skin from his scars.
At this vigorous pace it isn’t long before Freyr’s hips stutter into the cradle of her hips, his movements rapid and messy as he breathes hard into her neck. One slow glide of his cock however, and Vali’s cries are finally dragged out of her again. A strangled cry as she comes, feeling her limbs shake and her walls clamping down on him. Serving to tear the waves of pleasure from him too at the feel of her.
He moves in and out of her, pumping slower and slower until his weight collapses on her. The smell of sex and nature is all around them blending into a rich smell as their breathing slows down. And Freyr finally finds the strength to roll off her and lay beside her. His arm came up to twiddle with a strand of her hair, still needing to maintain contact somehow.
“Whoo…that was…” He swallowed thickly. They both stare at the canopy of trees looming overhead, eyeing the trails of stars that exist between the leaves. Their only witness to their love.
“Amazing,” She finishes, feeling her body completely drained and satisfied. Each time they do this serves to be and more invigorating, only fueling her desire to keep laying with him. If only to chart the parts of him she has yet not experienced.
Freyr turns his head to gaze upon her. “Still thinking about going back to Asgard?”
She meets his gaze. Suddenly feeling the urge to sleep for a thousand years. “No…not tonight,”
It was clearly the answer he wished to hear. As a great big smile creases against his freckled cheeks. The hand that had been loving fidgeting with her hair glides to her cheek, caressing her as he moves to plant a kiss to her lips. When he pulls back however, that smile is surely replaced by a look of contemplation. Which unwinds into hesitance…
“Good, I want you to remain. I hate seeing you go back to that maniac…not knowing if you’ll return,”
“He needs me,” She answers nonchalantly.
Freyr frowns, shaking his head. “You say that like it’s meant to reassure me,”
“It means he has no intention of getting rid of me-”
“While he needs you,” Freyr sighs. “That’s what I’m afraid of. The day when he doesn’t need you anymore…”
She knows he has a point. Odin’s children were less like family and more akin to tools; assets part of a grander scheme. Cogs easily scrapped when they stopped working…
“For a God of fertility, you’ve got shit pillow talk,” She muses, hoping he’ll work with her to change the subject.
Freyr looks down. “Well, we haven’t got pillows. Just the nice hard ground,”
“So I’ve noticed,” She makes a show to stretch out her aching limbs.
“Never say I don’t spoil you,” He shoots her a guilty look before propping himself on his elbow to peer over her. “When this is all over, I’ll take you somewhere nice,”
“Nicer than the forest ground? Impossible,” She snorts. Moving her hand to his chest, hand over his beating heart. Charting shapes across the freckled skin, careful not to linger on the burn marks. “I’m not a flowers kind of woman. The forest floor, the war table, in a tent…hell if you wanted to try the trees I’ll do it. So long as it's with you,”
“You’re right. Your pillow talk is much better than mine. Maybe they ought to make you the God of fertility,”
“After your performance, I see why they call you that,” She smiles.
---------------------
Vali is a real god from Norse Mythology, having been a babe for only a day before Odin aged him up. He is the one who punishes Loki for killing Baldur, personifying vengeance in this regard. I thought he was an awesome character considering how very metal he is in the mythology and how he is not present in God of War.
I have essentially genderbent this deity and made her my own character. Though I explain her situation briefly in the fic, I thought putting a note here would also be required. I hope you enjoyed the fic!!
Hello, God of War community, we're finally updating!
dreaming 'til you hit the truth: a god of war fanfic part two:
The giants watched him warily. Kratos could not blame them for that. The gods had not treated them kindly, and though he was not from these lands, they had no reason to trust him either. Only one of them was willing to approach him.
“I’m not sure if you remember me,” the woman said hesitantly.
He did. Kratos had lived many years, seen and forgotten many people in that time, but Atreus’s birth was relatively recent. It may have taken him a moment to remember the face of Faye’s midwife, but he did remember.
“Guðrún?” he guessed. She seemed surprised, but nodded. To be honest, he felt a little foolish looking at her. He did not know why he hadn’t considered that she would be a giant, too. Faye had mentioned they had grown up together after the death of her birth family; who else but another giant family would have raised her? “I am glad you are well.”
“I suppose we are now.” Guðrún took a deep breath. “I almost forgot how the air smelled here…”
Every giant in their group had the same look of awe on their faces. He could hear some talking among themselves, wondering what places were still left standing in Midgard, how their homeland had fared. Kratos wished he could give them more answers; his explorations into Jotunheim had been limited, and he did not know how many of their buildings still stood. They might have to rebuild everything if they wished to live there.
It is better than being in exile. And they will have help. His help, if no one else.
“Which one of your group is in charge?” he asked.
“Well…” Guðrún tilted her head towards Atreus. “He’s showed us the way back, but most important decisions we’ve made collectively.”
Then he would speak to the group collectively, once he had the chance. “Have you discussed which of the realms you will reach out to?”
“We were told that Vanaheim would likely stand by us now. We had no quarrel with Niðavellir before, so our primary concern is what remains of Asgard.” Guðrún’s face grew wary. “What power do they have?”
“Lady Sif has assumed most control. She has been in contact with Lady Freya, and…” Kratos turned to his son. “Atreus!”
Atreus broke away from the conversation he was having with a girl about his age and fell back to Kratos’s side. “We found the true Týr,” Kratos continued. “He is alive.”
“He what?!” Atreus yelped.
Several nearby giants overheard, giving Kratos a much larger audience. Kratos recounted the events leading to his and Freya’s discovery of Týr. He was uninterrupted, save for quietly shocked gasps and murmured prayers of thanks. “So, we have another advocate,” said one of the group. “Perhaps…”
The perhaps was left to linger, a thing heavy with hope, but too fragile to be spoken fully. Kratos understood that feeling.
“What else did I miss?” Atreus asked. “I know I was gone a whole year, but…”
Much. The training, the forming council, Sindri’s healing. “We will have much to discuss,” Kratos said as he rested a hand on his son’s shoulder, “but it is largely good news.”
“Oh. Good.” Atreus tilted his head, then broke into a broad grin. “Fenrir’s home?”
“Angrboda brought him when she came to keep Mimir company. You will have an audience.” The joy in Atreus’s eyes warmed his soul. “It will do them good to see you again.”
Atreus was still grinning as he re-joined the girl his age. “Angrboda is the girl from the Ironwood?” Guðrún guessed. “The poor thing. I can’t imagine what it must have been like, being alone for so long.”
“She is resilient. She has company now, though I imagine she will be happy to see her own kind.”
“The feeling is mutual. My daughter is thrilled there will be another girl her age. The other children in our group are either too young to be her friend or boys.” Guðrúnhesitated. “I should tell you, just so it’s not a surprise…we named her Laufey.”
“…hmm.”
Kratos looked back to the girl. She didn’t resemble Faye, of course—there was no blood relation there—but it was still comforting to know Faye’s legacy lived on in more than just her son. Could she see them somehow? Did she know?
“She would be glad,” Kratos said softly, “to see you all home.”
And he would do everything in his power to make sure they stayed safe. In honor of her memory as much as for their own sakes.
.
Atreus could feel Fenrir before he saw him. The wolf felt like he was taking a nap. He’d probably wake up any second now; they were upwind of the house, and he’d always had a good nose.
“Remember, he’s big but he’s friendly.” Atreus had already told them all about Fenrir, but nothing could really prepare you for how big he was. He didn’t want anyone to freak out. “You won’t have anything to worry about.”
Fenrir’s mind suddenly became sharp and clear, confused at first, then so happy that it made Atreus’s heart beat faster. He could hear the wolf’s whining even though the house wasn’t in view yet. Speki and Svanna ran on ahead, barking in response.
he's back! he's back! he's back!
Atreus took off after them. He knew this path, these woods. He hadn’t seen everything so green since the start of Fimbulwinter, but he knew it all. This was the way home. This was the way to…
“Atreus!”
Angrboda stood at the gate, Mimir in hand, Fenrir right behind her. The wolf yipped so loudly Atreus was sure Angrboda couldn’t hear him reply, but it didn’t matter. She ran to him, hugged him tightly. Atreus hugged her back. There was so much he wanted to tell her, but he couldn’t pick a thing to say first. All he was able to say was, “Hey.”
“Hey, yourself,” she replied. “It’s good to see you.”
“Gods, have you gotten taller?!” blurted Mimir. “Let me look at him, lass, let me see…” Angrboda stepped back so Mimir could see him. He hadn’t changed at all. “Ah, lad, look at you…”
“Hi, Mimir.” Atreus took him from Angrboda and pressed their foreheads together—the best he could do instead of a hug since Mimir didn’t have a body. “It’s so good to see you guys.”
Fenrir shoved his nose into Atreus’s side, nearly knocking him over as he took deep sniffs, trying to figure out where he’d been. “And I missed you, too!” Atreus laughed. “Where you good while I was gone?”
“He was the best.” Angrboda hugged Fenrir’s neck as the wolf kept sniffing. “All his paw fur grew back in. Did you see your dad back there?”
“Yeah, he’s right behind me. With…some friends.”
Fenrir’s ears perked up at the mention of company, then lifted when he actually registered their scent. friends? friends?
“Friends…did you…” Angrboda’s eyes widened. “How many…?”
Father and the first of the giants appeared on the path before Atreus could answer.
It wasn’t a very big group—eight families, thirty people total. He’d seen more giants, but some had chosen to stay behind. They felt safer with miles of forest between them and Asgard, and they had lives they didn’t want to uproot. Atreus understood. He would’ve understood if all of them had stayed.
But he was so, so glad some had decided to come back.
“You did it,” Mimir said softly. “You actually did it.”
Angrboda didn’t say anything, or maybe she couldn’t. She had her hands pressed over her mouth and tears in her eyes. “Are you okay?” Atreus asked.
“I-I…” Her eyes were wide when she looked at him. “Is this real?”
Before Atreus could answer, Laufey ran over. “Are you Angrboda?” she asked eagerly. She started bouncing in place when Angrboda nodded. “Oh, Loki told me all about you…I’m Laufey Guðrúnsdottir…can I hug you? Is that weird?”
“Y-you can, a hug is…”
Angrboda burst into tears.
Atreus panicked. He thought she’d be happy to see everyone, he was pretty sure she was…but why was she crying? What could he do? Laufey didn’t look bothered by it; she just wrapped Angrboda in a tight hug. “It’s really nice to meet you,” she said, as if everything were totally fine. “You’re going to have to show me everything.”
Angrboda nodded and hugged Laufey back. “I’m sorry, I just…I didn’t think I’d ever…”
Oh. Yeah, that made sense. This was a bigger deal for her, since she’d been alone for so long. But she doesn’t have to be. Never again.
Atreus rested his hand on Angrboda’s shoulder. Soon, the three of them were surrounded by some of the others, mostly the parents, all murmuring reassuringly. Others, including Laufey’s aunt Hallveig, approached Fenrir. He started whining again as he lowered his head for pets. “Well, how about that?” Hallveig said as she scratched behind his ears. “You really are just a big baby.”
“Told you.” Atreus looked at the group and felt a smile start to grow on his face. “Are you guys ready to go home?”
He saw the way their eyes lit up, the excitement, and even the disbelief. This must have been when it finally felt real for them, because he felt the same way. He knew he’d found them, that they were coming home, but so many things could’ve happened on the way back. So many things could’ve gone wrong.
But they hadn’t. Everyone was home.
It was real.
.
Kratos wasn’t sure what to expect when the giants stepped through the door and to the Ironwoods.
The stretch of silence was understandable. The place was a legend even among giants; seeing it in person was likely awe-inspiring, especially when it was the first sight of their homeland they’d had in some time.
After silence, the group began to scatter.
Laufey the Younger ran to the animal enclosures, cooing excitedly over the wolves that watched the group with confused looks. Some walked around as if in a trance, taking in everything they could. One group in particular moved with a mission, looking up to the sky, trying to determine directions. Most likely trying to find their way back to their former homes. Kratos approached this group first. “It would be better to leave with the whole group,” he pointed out, as gently as he could manage. “You do not know if there are any dangers on the road.” Not dangers from the Aesir, of course, but the realm had probably grown wild since the giants left. It would not do for them to make it this far only to have their journey end in the mouth of an unfriendly wolf or bear.
The group looked disappointed, but turned back. “Guess one more evening won’t hurt,” one of them admitted. “It’s not like the houses here grow legs.”
Implying the houses where they’d come from could? Kratos quickly decided he didn’t want to know right now. He had other things to worry about beyond what dangers Atreus might have faced on the road.
Kratos glanced his son’s way. Atreus was speaking with Angrboda and one of the adults, gesturing around the space, perhaps trying to determine where to house everyone for the night. He had grown in confidence since leaving. Sixteen years old. Properly a man now, and yet somehow in Kratos’s mind, still so young.
Then again, he was centuries older than Atreus. The boy would likely seem young to him for a long time.
But I cannot treat him like a child anymore. He has more than proven himself.
“It really is a sight, isn’t it?” Mimir said softly.
Kratos nodded. He was careful to step out of earshot before unhooking Mimir from his belt and asking in a low voice, “Are there any left among the Aesir who may cause problems?”
Mimir must have been considering the question as well. His face was troubled and his answer swift: “Honestly, brother, I couldn’t tell you. Odin may have been the primary instigator, but his poison ran deep for years. Him being gone doesn’t mean people magically stopped believing everything he told them.”
It made sense. A year was too short a time to clear a poisoned well. Kratos still suspected there were those in Asgard who were still loyal to Odin. It would explain the rumors that had started to spread about himself and Freya. Rumors that he would have to tell Atreus about eventually, if only so his son would not be taken off-guard.
There were many things Atreus and the returned giants would have to face. But…
The sound of laughter drifted across Angrboda’s camp. She was helping Laufey the Younger onto her ox-creature while Atreus watched with a smile on their face. Other giants were settling in to rest, talking among themselves, smiling more and more openly. It was a happy, peaceful scene.
“It can wait an evening,” he said softly.
“Aye, brother,” Mimir agreed. “I think it can.”
Cross My Heart Hope You Die || Heimdall X Reader
Chapter 4 - Vanaheim
This was not going great, mother's protection ward had not been able to hold so she had to turn into her falcon form, the dwarf was being his usual self, and now he had been taken by something. What it is, I suppose we will find out. I also saw the destruction caused by the war and the Einherjar that still occupy the place, the people gone, buildings destroyed, my lust for vengeance increases the more I see.
I could hear the breathing and heartbeats of the people around us, there were many people. I saw Brok strung up by his ankle, shit. Is this a trap set by the Aesir? Maybe Odin found out about my mother trying to break her binding curse and is trying to stop that. Maybe he wants to kill us all, kill her, kill Kratos, kill me. I grab my bow, put an arrow in and draw it. "Now what do we have here?" A man asks from the dark alcove infront of us, I aim my bow in that direction.
"Ol' one eye send another god to do his dirty work?" So he wasn't Aesir, his heartbeat hadn't faltered so he wasn't lying. He lit a torch and he appeared, he was kind of handsome, in a sort of roguish way. "Thor too busy?"
"We don't serve Odin." I say, he looks at me and his eyes widen, tears start swelling up. He clasps his hands together, "F- Freya?"
"No, her daughter."
"Ah, the eyes, I see it now, not my sister. Then you do serve Odin, your the spawn of her and that prick." So this was Freyr, he drew his weapon and the people I already knew were here came out of the shadows. "Now, now, no need for threats, brother." Freyr looks extremely irritated then. "I-I'm not Odin's, I swear to you." He doesn't listen, he's too focused on the head, Mimir, that was his name. "Oh, I know that voice." Kratos holds Mimir up to the view of him, he looks and lets out a menacing laugh that sends shivers down my spine. "You know, I'd cut of your head, but it seems somebody beat me to it."
"Aye, quite observant, brother." He lets out another laugh and I feel unable to breathe, this will become so much worse if my mother doesn't intervene. "No, you're no brother of mine. You sold my sister to that prick!"
"We brokered a peace!" That didn't go to well though, did it? "Oh! Did you now? Where is it, hmm? And where is my sister? Some dungeon in Asgard? Is she even alive?" I wanted to scream that she was here, that she was fighting to come back to him, but I couldn't speak. I was afraid of the possibility that I'd have to fight my family. "Answer me!" He screams at both Mimir and myself. "Guess we'll settle for blood."
My mother flies in, "Stop!" She shouts as she does. Oh, thank Ymir, that she's here. "What is that? Why do you speak in her voice?"
"It's me, Yngvi. There's no time to explain, just listen. This is my daughter, from a mortal man after I left Asgard, and these men are in my service. I'm here to reclaim what's been taken from me." He stepped towards her perched form carefully, "It's too late, you can't undo what's been done."
"I can, I will. Now, let them pass." She flies away and Freyr chases after her but is unsuccessful. "So, you serve my sister?" Kratos nods his head slightly, "Well, don't we all. Cut him down." Brok is swiftly cut down from where he was strung up and landed ungracefully on his ass, I smirked at him as he rubbed it, he gave me a disdainful look for doing so. He goes to reunite with his friend he mentioned, it was a woman, a dwarf like him.
I don't know who to follow Kratos, to upgrade his armour or Freyr, because he's my family, I remember Freyr's threats and angry glances and choose Kratos. "What will it be?" Brok asks him as he goes up to the forge.
"Heya, the name's Lúnda, you?"
"(Y/n) Freyasdottir." I go to shake her hand and she takes it, her grip was strong, very strong. "It's nice to meet ya, Goddess."
"I'm not a goddess, I'm half-mortal. My magic is shit, the only things I can do is be logical, sense things well, and I have perfect aim."
"Still more divine than the rest of us. You said you have perfect aim, show me." I did as she asked and sent an arrow into a nearby branch splitting it in half. She watched the arrow fly and struggled to see it but when she did, she seemed shocked and impressed. "Nice, let me see that bow o' yours." I pass it to her and she examines it.
"I made it myself." I say, hoping she would be more impressed with me. "I can see." She was not impressed, "How 'bout this, I make you a better bow and a few more daggers, better than those rusty ones you have at your side and in return you owe me a favour, an I owe you?"
"What kind of favour?" This made me wary, I didn't know this dwarf well and I didn't want to be in her debt but if I actually take part in this war then I'll have to be prepared and this could be a step in the right direction. "I'm not sure yet, I just want a goddess in my debt." That was fair, I suppose. "So do we have a deal?" She puts her hand out for me to shake and I hesitate, this could go very right or very wrong. I shake her hand. "They will be ready for you tomorrow morning." I give her a small bow in thanks and she scoffs, hopefully I haven't made a huge mistake.
~
"Sorry we got off on the wrong foot there. We're pretty used to only seeing Aesir in these parts, don't typically get friendly faces."
"Is it just the Einherjar around now?" I had to know, if any of the actual Aesir Gods were in Vanaheim that could be an issue for all of us. "Yes. The last god to come down was Thor a couple years ago, he killed a lot of good people." Odin's enforcer, murderer of my father, and my people. "I'm sorry, that must've been difficult." His eyes met my own, his eyes showed how distraught he was, I can't imagine what it's been like, he thought his sister was dead and he had to lead a small rebellion against fully provisioned, immortal soldiers.
"How long have you been occupied for?" Mimir asks, "Since- I've lost count."
"What is your plan?"
"Still kinda working on it." He has no idea what to do, I didn't even need to hear his heart falter, his voice told me everything. "Brother, I think I could be of use here... If my counsel is welcome."
"I'll take what I can get." Freyr gestures for him to speak, "Your mission will go considerably smoother without me in the mix. Come back for me when your done."
"Hey Kratos, as long as you're working for my sister, careful you don't screw up. She's not too big on forgiveness." Kratos leaves, going up the ladder to help free my mother. "He's well aware." I remark, Freyr raises his eyebrow and gives me a questioning glance, "He killed Baldur to save my mother, so my mother tried to kill him, roping me in the mix with her."
"Baldur's dead?" I nod slightly, "Good. I shouldn't be saying that since he's family but when they invaded again, he was detrimental in our defeat, well, him and all Odinson's apart from Tyr, considering he's dead." That was probably a loyalty test from Odin, his father checking he would slaughter his mother's people if requested. "Tyr's alive. He was imprisoned but Kratos and his son freed him."
"Well isn't that nice to here, maybe he can actually succeed in his second rebellion." So Freyr resented Tyr, probably because if he had been successful this would never have had to happen. I noticed another heartbeat enter the camp and saw a tall man who started walking towards us. "Freyr, who is that?" He smiled joyfully, "My son, Fjolnir."
Fjolnir walked towards us and I noticed a couple things, one, he was covered in marks, two, he was limping and clutching on to his side, three, he looked nothing like his father. "Oh shit, what happened?" Freyr's eyes were filled with terror, and he reached for his son and he landed safely in his arms. "Einherjar, a lot of them."
"Shit, I might be able to heal him." I say, he was laid gently on the stone slab next to Mimir. I removed his armour and tunics and saw the top half of his body, it was well formed but he also had bruises and cuts littering his torso, as well as this he had a large stab wound on his side, I thought of the simple healing spells I could do, he didn't seem too far gone, I could definitely do this.
I laid my hands on his body and started chanting the words for the spell, this one was supposed to sow matter back together. I danced my fingers across the cut, as I was supposed to do, and noticed that it was actually working. The spell was taking a long time though and I was losing energy then there were probably marks on his leg too that needed treatment.
"I'm not good at magic and this is making me very tired, do you have any medicines, poultice, that can heal his leg?" I ask Freyr, he was holding his hands together in prayer, "We should have something that can help slightly until you're back to full power." He leaves to go find it leaving me with Fjolnir and Mimir.
~
It took a while but I had healed the cut on his side and Freyr put some herbs on a dark bruise that covered his sons' leg. "Thank you so much, whoever you are." Fjolnir exclaims, "No problem, my name is (Y/n), your cousin." His face contorts to one of rage, "You're Aesir, Odin and the traitors' daughter."
"No, no, I swear I'm not Odin's, my mother she fell in love with a mortal when she left Asgard, I'm the product of that love." That made him relax a little, "I'm sorry, we just aren't used to new people."
"It's okay, neither am I."
~
I leave Freyr and Fjolnir to their own devices and wander about. Everyone was really kind, Birgir was a mortal, a traveller before he saw through Odin's lies and sided with the Vanir, he was skeptical of me but also wasn't a complete prick about me being here, so that was cool.
Then there was Beyla and Byggvir, a light and dark elf who had fallen in love despite the war. I hope they get a happy ending, it seems deserved after all they've been through.
After the introductions of everyone I went to see Brok and Lunda, who were talking while Lúnda's seemed to be working on my bow. "I told you to come back tomorrow for it." She said while she was working on what looked to be wood carvings. "I know, I just wanted to talk to people."
"Oh, okay then, chit-chat away."
"What's the wood you're using?" The wood of a bow mattered, it determined whether it was brittle or strong, smooth or rough, my current bow was made out of cherry wood, the only one we had, it made it extremely brittle and the string wasn't great either and I had to constantly redo it but it was all I could gather considering my mother wouldn't let me leave the stave, or use hers.
"Yew wood, it's strong and won't give your tiny fragile hands splinters. The runes I'm carving will make any magic added to your bow stronger." That was amazing, "This favour I owe you is going to definitely mean something, isn't it?"
"You can bet your sorry ass it will, your daggers I've got Brok working on, they will be perfectly balanced and more pretty than that mother of yours." That was nice to here. "Do I owe him now too?"
"Yes, you do." He retorts, I roll my eyes and mutter, "Great."
"It might serve you to be a bit nicer to me, considering I'm making you top quality weapons." He had a point, but he was also being an asshole. "I will, and I would much appreciate it if you were too."
"You got a deal."
~
I go back to Freyr, he had moved over to the campfire Birgir was sat at, he was also joined by Fjolnir who was still struggling, the elves, and Lúnda. I joined when the elves started recounting on how they fell in love, they had started talking when Freyr caused a peace between the elves and grew feelings for one another, when the war restarted they couldn't kill eachother and left Alfheim. It sounded like something pulled out of a beautiful love story I would definitely have read. "What does love feel like?" Everyone gives me a questioning look, "How old are you again?" Fjolnir asks,
"A hundred and twenty."
"And you've never fallen in love?"
"No, it's a bit hard when your mother keeps you in a stave for one hundred and seventeen years, the only people you see are injured men and women who have wandered in and the moment they're healed they're sent away immediately, and your first ever friend - is a child."
"Why did my sister keep you in the stave?"
"She was afraid Odin would send someone after me, to either kill me like he killed my dad or take me to Asgard as leverage." Freyr puts his hand on my shoulder as a comfort, "So she had good reason." She definitely did, the only time I did something by myself out of the stave ended in disaster, I'm sure the only reason it hasn't happened now is because I have Freyr and none of these people are monsters. "To answer your question," Beyla starts holding her husband's hand, "for me, love felt like life, like everything would be alright as long as I had him by my side. It is strong, it can't be broken by anything in the nine realms, my love for Byggvir has made it so that only death could keep us away from eachother." Her explanation seemed illogical, I guess that's what it was to someone who could see the logical path. It seemed confusing and not like something that could be of use in this war. It's a shame really, if I had the chance to lead a normal life it would be nice to feel such a thing. It seemed cold but I replied, "Thank you for informing me of the concept." There was an awkward silence after that.
~
"So, (Y/n), what can you do?" Fjolnir asks, breaking the tension, "My main gift is that I can see the logical path, I know what will benefit most in the long run. I also have perfect aim and amplified senses not to the normal god level but more than that."
"Perfect aim? prove it." Fjolnir speaks, I grab one of my daggers and search through the trees for leaves attached to branches, I saw one which behind it had a bent branch that could serve as elastic. I angled my dagger to a degree which could remove the leaf from the branch and bring it back to me. I threw it and it did exactly what I wanted it to do, that didn't surprise me. The blade came back to me the leaf pierced onto it's point, I caught it and presented it to them. They all seemed impressed, "All hail our new Vanir Goddess of logic and accuracy." Freyr shouted, I smiled as they reiterated what he said. "All hail." I heard another voice and noticed two new heartbeats, my mother and Kratos had returned. I turned around to see my mother, in human form. I ran to her and held on to her tightly, "You're free!"
"I am." We pull out of the embrace but our arms are still linked, she's smiling, and I notice Kratos and realise; holy shit he's alive, she didn't kill him. This day could not get any better, my mother was free, the truce was now hopefully permanent and I had met more of my family.
She split from me and her gaze landed on Freyr, "It really is you." He walks towards her and I get out of the way so they can have their moment. "You've returned to us at last."
"Yes."
"Uh, let's celebrate." He goes to get a bottle of mead and returns to her, "You'll reclaim the throne. We'll rebuild! Me, you, our children, against the world, huh? Just like the old days." He seemed so much happier with her back, I thought initially it was because she was his sister and she was now free but with that sentence, I realised that wasn't the case, it was so he didn't have to be the responsible one anymore.
"I'm... not staying. Neither is (Y/n)." Is she going to go after Odin? That would be the only reason she'd leave her home, get vengeance for herself, my father, everyone else Odin has ever hurt. I hope so because otherwise this makes no sense. "I don't understand, you're here. Maybe together we can take back what's ours."
"I only just got back what's mine, I still have work to do." She walks to the campfire and Freyr follows her, "You've seen what's left of the realm, right? Do we really mean that little to you?" They meant everything to her.
"You question my loyalty?" Fjolnir joins in with his fathers' insult, "Who hasn't?" She pays the boy no heed, I give him a warning glare and go to the hilt of one of my daggers.
"Vanaheim turned it's back on me!" Freyr scoffs, "You still can't let go of that old fight?"
"It was my duty to save as many people as possible, my responsibility. One you didn't take seriously then and from the looks of it, one you don't now." She grabs the bottle from his hand, "You think this is a game to me? We lost everything to that maniac you called husband. The man's family set me on fire!" Wait, what? He was tortured by them? That's a new reason to want the Aesir dead. "How did you expect me to react?"
"Like my brother! Like the boy who used to have my back no matter what! And who I always supported no matter how selfish his choices." She throws the bottle in the fire and removes him from her gaze. "I expected you to come and find me, find us. That no matter how hurt or angry, you wouldn't abandon me when I needed you the most."
"Freya, please." He goes to touch her arm but she swats him away, "I thought you were dead. I've had to live lifetimes with those last, awful words I said to you. Any idea what that's like? Knowing that your own selfishness hurt one of the people that you cared about the most? Abandon you? Freya, I mourned you." She turns to him and they hold on to eachother, "I've missed you so much." They pull one another into a heart-warming embrace, its nice to know they've been reunited, that my mother now has more than one person she can rely on, hopefully. "And I you, Yngvi."
They broke apart, "But I won't bind myself to another realm when I finally have my freedom. I'll send help though... And I will come back, I promise." She looks at me, "If it is her desire, (Y/n) can stay and help, or she can help me kill some Aesir Gods?" This causes cheers through the encampment, "You knew I was going to come with you anyways." She gives me a knowing smirk, of course she did.
"This hasn't been your home for a long time, has it?" She nods, "Do what you gotta do."
"Alright, alright, that's enough." Brok shouts from behind us, "Ain't y'all got nothin' better to do than gawkin' at family sortin' squabbles?" Brok was being kind to them, I added another two characteristic, dutiful and respectful.
"C'mon, you two- also (Y/n), your shits ready." Awesome, ahead of schedule. Freyr comes with us, but he's pushed back by Brok, "Not you." Oh, so he meant Kratos. "Got a few things to square with y'all - one being, you collecting your spare head."
Brok serves Kratos and Freya while Lúnda serves me, "Here is your bow and your knives." The bow was beautiful, but the knives, they were something else. I felt one in my hand and the balance was perfect, that and they were made primarily of a blueish metal with a gold rim, they were absolutely stunning. I touched the tip of them and it pricked me, so they were incredibly sharp too. "Thank you so much, Lúnda, and you, Brok." I equipped them all putting the bow around my body and the knives at my waist. "You are most welcome, Goddess. Remember that favour though, I don't give out expensive bows and arrows for free."
"I will." I also grab my own bag of hacksilver, I had a bit. I lay down a hundred and fourty three hacksilver out of my two hundred and fifty on the table, "A favour for both of you doesn't seem like enough, so I know it's not much but it -"
"It will certainly do." She grabs the money and puts it in her apron. She smiles at me and I smile in return, maybe I just made a new friend, I hope so, Lúnda was nice.
We were about to leave but mother decided we needed to stay, just for a little while. We leave the encampment and explore Vanaheim.
I hope you guys like the cover I've added for this fic and also the story itself. A not so wild Heimdall appears next chapter, so I hope you're all excited.
After Kratos and Freya restore the River and clear out the invasive species, this is their exchange:
(Mimir: Maybe life in this valley can flourish again.)
Freya: I hope so. Vanaheim has suffered enough.
Kratos: It will prove resilient
Freya: How are you so sure?
Kratos: Lands tend to reflect those who care for it most.
You ain’t slick, Kratos. 🫣
Of all the people Kratos partnered with and met on his past two journeys, there is no one is respects or holds in such as high esteem as Freya.
Although this missions are optional for us, they canonically do everything that’s presented to us.
They repair/rebuild nine realms together, but Kratos spends the most time in Vanaheim—Freya’s homeland—and restores the rivers, clears out invasive species, helps clear poisons and stuff, brings peace to trapped spirits, etc. The Crater, Vanaheim territory, is the largest segments for side quests.
And while I think he’s a great friend, this has the markings of a great (romantic) relationship.
Because not only is Freya highly esteemed in Kratos’ eyes, he expresses it in different ways. One of them was to her face and a very touching way. We see what happened to her lane after Odin invaded, which Kratos then made a parallel to her ordeal with her ex. Stripping her of everything and making her psyche have an invasive emotional journey for over a century. Through this all she was resilient and flourished.
But I also think of his innate thoughts, journal entries, and how after he met Freyr, Kratos said that he wasn’t as impressive as his sister. 😂 he didn’t Freyr any time to prove himself or anything. And depending on what you do in Alfheim, it’s even more funny. This dude got the light and dark elves to get along for a little bit and Kratos doesn’t think he’s nearly as impressive as Freya.
What’s also interesting about The Crater segment is that there’s these missions that leads us to finding out that Faye was there and fought Thor. But that wasn’t enough for Sony Santa Monica, Freya either briefly met or at least observed his wife (enough) to know she saw her firsthand and thought she was fierce.
Imo, this shows that the studio is building up the foundation of a romance based off friendship and mutual respect. The way in which the studio ties them together and how they perceive one another and their experiences doesn’t feel like they have a platonic end goal in mind.
These are two people with immense grief that have experienced raw pain with one another, but can also be incredibly open and vulnerable. Faye had her reasons for keeping her past secrets, but I do find it fascinating that if Kratos and Freya canonically get together, it will be with no secrets between them and them knowing the truth about each other—grimy details and all.
Two people who have either seen the other at their worst or they know about it and why. And get, they already have a deep and profound respect for one another.
— on the nine realms ; a general study of asgard .
aka vi's world-building reference .
The following details are what I consider to be canon for the Nine Realms. This is primarily based on what we know from the MCU, some minor spinoffs (the thor video game comes to mind), concept art + screenplays and some inspirations pulled from the marvel comics (no particular runs just in general)
It's what I'll be referencing when Thor speaks of the Nine Realms, specific planets within them, and Asgard.
THE NINE REALMS (general.)
The following are all the known realms under Asgardian Protection (pulled from the MCU.) Technically there are 10 realms but only 9 if you don't count Asgard.
Asgard || A flat planet also known as 'the realm eternal' . Home of the Asgardians . Asgard resides in its own pocket dimension in deep space and can only be accessed by wormholes. The center of Yggdrasil .
Vanaheim || Sister planet to Asgard . Where the Vanir (sister species) live . Also where skraelings, some breeds of trolls, and mire giants live . (hc : frigga's homeland.) Where hogun is from.
Alfheim || Home of the Light Elves . Highly magically inclined . To the north live the Falligrians and Falligar the Behemoth .
Svartalflheim/Harudheen || Home of the Dark Elves . Once prosperous, Svartalfheim and its surrounding planets have been completely corrupted by Dark Matter . The Dark Elves (and all other life) are now extinct, with a barren land destroyed by war and the Aether (reality stone) .
Muspelheim || Realm of fire. Where Surtur lives. Various Infernir live here . (Infernir also known as Fire Demons and Fire Giants.) Home to The Infernal Forge and a material called "Scabrite" . Scabrite makes up all Muspelheim's armor and weapons . It can absorb incredible amounts of heat .
Niflheim || A realm of the mists and cold . Helheim exists within the depths of Niflheim . Notoriously, Niflheim's legends say that the spirits of the dishonorable dead and the damned travel the dense fogs there . Hela was banished to Helheim, sealed in the Cave of Ages .
Jotunheim || Realm of the Frost Giants and eternal ice and snow . Led by King Laufey . A portion of Jotunheim was destroyed by Loki during the events of "Thor" (2011) .
Nidavellir || A small planet built around a neutron star . Where King Eitri and the dwarves live. The birthplace of urdu metal and its enchanted objects and weapons, including the Infinity Gauntlet, Gungnir, Mjolnir and Stormbreaker .
Midgard || A realm surrounded by its own solar system with 8 other planets. The main inhabitants of Midgard reside on Earth . Home of the Avengers and Jane Foster. A known host of a wellspring of the 'water of sights' that is connected to the Nornns.
Nornheim/Urðarbrunnr || Presumably: a realm connected to the nornns/water of sights, that is inhabited by other beings beyond the nornns , such as rock trolls. (it's implied the nornns themselves are kept to the waters and are semi-supernatural beings.) Filled with forests , swamps , and large mountains .
ASGARD (overview.)
A flat planet with a top side and a bottom side. Topside features various biomes including but not limited to: forests, mountains and cliffs, deep mines and cave systems, jungles, beaches, and small deserts. The bottom plane of Asgard is host to large crystal structures. (hc: mined and utilized as energy sources and magic storage for spells, weapons, and various other mechanisms throughout Asgard.)
Has day and night cycles, an atmosphere, and various weather patterns. Yearly consists of two (and a half) seasons. Its primary two are summer and spring. (Summer has warm days and evenings/nights that result in easily-melting flingsnö , or a light and powdery falling snow.) Spring (Asgard's longest season), is most hallmarked by its near-perpetual twilight hours. Asgard also exhibits some signs of the beginning of fall, which presumably a farmer's season of rest, but Asgard itself does not experience cold snaps or winters.
Asgard boasts a vast series of waterfalls, rivers, and fjords, though all ultimately lead to, and end in, the Sea of Space. The central city is built around and above these waterways.
The Bifrost spans from the Palace of Valskjalf to Himinbjorg, the Bifrost's observatory. This bridge spans the broad length of the Sea of Space, and reveals the cosmos of space the farther out towards the observatory one travels.
Asgard has 1 sun (that orbits around Asgard perpendicularly), 2 (stationary) moons that can be seen during the day.
Asgard's main colors are red and gold. Its main symbol is the celtic triquetra (sometimes also referred to as the trinity knot.)
Asgard uses all forms of viking art styles, but its main three consist of: Jellinge Style, Mammen Style, and especially Urnes Style .
ASGARD (places.)
Locations in Asgard (based on the 1960s comics - present comics. Not comic or mcu accurate obvsly but i'm taking liberties and referencing what I can within reason.)
Valaskjalf - (hc'd) name of the city of Asgard. It houses the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf where Thor + co live. The palace gardens are run by the Queen of Asgard (currently: Frigga) and are called Fólkvangr. Within the great city of Valaskjalf is the Hall of Science, within which is a great ash tree representing Yggdrasil, and acting as an observatory of the Nine Realms.
Himinbjorg - Heimdall's observatory, which can only work upon use of Hofund, an uru-made sword wielded by Heimdall.
The Sea of Space - the name of the sea that stretches from the Asgardian fjords and out into the void of space (also synonymous with "the void of Yggdrasil".)
Gundershelm - the mining region of Asgard. From here can be found the descent into the crystal caves beneath Asgard, known as the Glade of Crystals. A series of waterfalls and great fjord surrounds this place. The crystals begin to form even outside of the mouth of the mining caves descending down. Hence the name 'glade' of crystals, as the fjord looks something like an open patch in a field of snow from above and afar. Therein also lies the Amethyst Cavern and Boulder Road (which is said to span all the way past Varinheim into Skornheim. The trek can be dangerous due to how long it is, and its intense heat.) One of the more popular mines, the "Mines of Andvari" also is here in Gundershelm.
Varinheim - the mountainous area of Asgard, where the asgardian wolves dwell, amongst other hazardous beasts. Varinheim is where the Trials of Virtue (an Asgardian 'coming of age' trial) is held. It is often filled with mists from the snowy peaks far overhead, and the more uncommonly traveled lands are referred to by commoners as the 'land of the lost'. Hreidmar's Hol is deep within the land of the lost, which is a mysterious valley Asgardians dare not pass into for long. Here there is a strange old man called Hardol who is an ancient healer.
Ringsfjord - a merchant town nestled in one of Valakjalf's fjords. It's a place where the finest smithies and weapons makers make their shops, as well as magical enchanters. Legends have it that four enchanter brothers named Brona, Enrakt, Forsung and Magnir lived in Ringsjford, and that Brona was one of the first Asgardians to discover the rifts between realms. (One of which was named 'Brona's Barrier'.) But Brona's discoveries had long since been lost to time, especially after the creation of the Bifrost (until Loki, an equally adept sorcerer, was able to rediscover the passageways between realms for himself). Their forge is called "Forge of the Sons of Ivaldi" and boasts some of the finest asgardian-made weapons in the city.
Skornheim - another old and magic-rife land that's filled to the brim with danger. Including but not limited to; dense swamp-woods, quicksand, spiny plants (called 'nightmare plants'). The most important point of interest here is Skornheim's Stronghold which is a surviving ruin from the first battles against Surtur.
Gymirsgard - west of Skornheim. To reach Gymirsgard, one would have to traverse through the dense forest/swamps and brave the threat of unusually large water-dragons the likes of the fabled Jormangundir.
