"I should really stop being a coward," Buck sighed. He sat in the back of the ambulance, watching Eddie punch the bag across the room.

"Yes," Hen said from behind him. "And you should actually help me restock the ambulance or get out of my way."

"Sorry, sorry." Buck stood and did help. They were just finishing when the B-shift crew started to filter in.

"Buck!" Eddie shouted.

When Buck turned, Eddie was standing freshly showered and dressed in his jeans and a hoodie, bag over his shoulder about ten feet back from the ambulance.

"Happy hour ends in half an hour. Do you want wings or not? We gotta go!" Eddie asked, resting a hand on his hip.

Buck glanced toward Hen, who rolled her eyes. "Go," she said. "You should really stop being a coward."

Buck looked at her for a second, then nodded. "See you tomorrow, Hen." And he hopped out of the ambulance and sprinted to the locker room to change.

Eddie leaned against the jeep when he got out there. "If we miss happy hour, you're buying."

Buck laughed. He unlocked the jeep and tossed his bag in the back.

Eddie got in and immediately started to fiddle with the radio, settling on a classic rock station and humming along as they drove.

Buck parked the jeep near the back of CJ's lot and turned it off, but didn't get out. He unbuckled and turned to face Eddie. "Eddie, can we talk a sec?"

Eddie glanced at his watch. "Can we talk after we've been seated and ordered wings?"

"Yeah, yeah," Buck said, ducking his head.

Coward.

He climbed out of the jeep and followed Eddie into the restaurant. They were seated quickly.

"I'm thinking hot and the Thai curry ones we got last time," Eddie said, flipping over the happy hour menu to look at the wing flavors.

"So you want to melt my face off," Buck replied. "What about some of the Korean BBQ?"

"I'm trying to build your spice tolerance, Buck. I'm doing you a service here," Eddie said with a grin. He then flashed that grin at the waitress Sarah who was often their server on wing night.

"Getting in right under the wire, I see, gentlemen. What can I get you?" Sarah asked.

"We want two dozen. Ten buffalo hot, ten of the Thai curry, and four Korean BBQ. A basket of fries and," Eddie paused, glancing at the beer list. "Do you still have the black forest stout?"

"I'd have to check. They were on the last one. But Rosewood sent another stout to replace it with," Sarah said.

Eddie nodded and offered her the menu. "Whichever Rosewood stout you have is fine."

"Buck?" Sarah asked.

Buck offered her a smile. "Lots of ranch. And whatever pilsner is on tap."

Sarah tucked her pen on her apron. "I will go put that in and get those drinks."

Buck watched her go before he looked back at Eddie. "Kind of you to get four wings that are a little less spicy."

"You like spice. Even if it makes you cry a little," Eddie replied, smiling. "And last time you said the curry wings were the best you've ever had." He paused, tilting his head. "Do you want me to go grab her and change the hot to medium?"

Buck shook his head. "You're right. I do like spice." And then he took a second to just look at Eddie as he stared down at the drinks menu.

"I will never understand paying fifteen dollars for fifty cents worth of liquor and some juice," Eddie said, shaking his head. "I can get a bottle of tequila and a carton of orange juice for fifteen bucks."

"Shitty tequila," Buck said.

Eddie grinned. "That's what the orange juice is for."

Buck laughed, shaking his head, but convinced he fell even more in love every time Eddie flashed him that grin. He thought weak at the knees was a made up think until the first time Eddie smiled at him.

Sarah returned. She set Buck's pilsner down in front of him and then about three-quarters of a pint in front of Eddie. "Keg kicked in the middle of the pour. I'll bring you another when they've got the new one in."

"Thanks." Eddie picked up his glass and held it out toward Buck. "Cheers."

"Cheers," Buck replied, clinking his glass against Eddie's and taking a drink. As Eddie's glass came away from his mouth, it'd left behind a little foam on his upper lip. Fondness spread through Buck and without thinking much about it, he said, "I love you."

He wished then that he was in one of those made-up worlds where love at first sight existed and love made one weak at the knees because time also seemed to stop there when things like this happened, when those words accidentally slipped put.

But Buck wasn't in one of those worlds. He was in the real world, and time kept ticking as Eddie registered exactly what it was Buck had said.

Eddie blinked. "What?"

"I'm sorry," Buck said.

"Fuck." Eddie shook his head. He laughed. "This is where you finally do it? In CJ's?"

Buck frowned. "Finally?" he repeated, then pointed his finger at Eddie. "I asked if we could talk in the jeep. You asked if we could do it after we ordered wings. It's after we ordered wings. What do you mean finally, Eddie?"

Eddie looked down at his drink. "I just wasn't sure when you were going to tell me."

Buck's face suddenly felt hot, and something burned hot inside his gut. Embarrassment, maybe. Shame, like he was the butt of a joke. Was it a joke? Had he been so obvious that Eddie had just known? Was it sad? Pathetic?

"I love you too," Eddie said. "I need you to hear that before you start to spiral about this. I love you."

"Why did you wait for me to say it," Buck asked.

Eddie reached out and gripped his shoulder. "Because when Taylor said it first, you weren't ready, and you felt bad about your response. I wanted you to get to say it first. And I wanted you to hear it back. I love you, Buck."

Buck wrapped his fingers around Eddie's wrist, just holding it there, grounding him for a moment. He let out a breath. "Will you kiss me before my mouth goes numb from all these stupid hot wings you ordered?"

Eddie moved each of their beers off to the side and leaned across the table. Buck's hand dropped as Eddie moved his to rest on the back of Buck's neck and pull him close.

The kiss was quick, but everything Buck wanted it to be. Eddie didn't pull away.

"I love you," Eddie said.

Buck laughed and surged forward to kiss him again.

Anyway,

Original universe headcanons:

-Ace is proud of his freckles. He doesn't much know what his mother looks like, but he's seen his father's appearance and knows that Rodger doesn't have freckles. So he sees his mother through his freckles :)

-despite his name, Ace is the only allosexual within the trio. I do think ace is aromantic though. I just don't think romantic relationships suit any of them, personally

-sabo cuts his own hair. I read a SBS submission asking oda why sabo grew his hair out. Oda responded saying he does to hide his scar. He said that sabo doesn't exactly see it as a badge of honor. Which makes me uhhhhhhhh very sad yuh huh. But it also makes me imagine he cuts his own hair because no one else can get it right. How I draw him, his bangs are uneven so that his scarred eye is covered and his working eye doesn't get blocked out. It looks fine now, but the first couple times he cut his hair were ✨disasters✨

Modern au:

They share an apartment and it is very apparent who's room is luffy's by level of messiness. Don't get me wrong, Ace's room is messy, but it's messy in an organized way. Unlike Luffy, who is just... Who knows if there's a floor over there. No one's ever seen it.

Sabo's room is so clean it's boarder-line sterile. It also just doesn't look lived in at all. If he invited you over and you saw his room, you'd think he was a serial killer.

Sabo and Ace both have their own mini fridges in their rooms that are under lock and key so that Luffy cant get into them. little fuckin gremlin man...

There is a tally board on their fridge that keeps track of who wins in wrestling matches that break out sometimes, much like in the show.

Sanji owns a restaurant near their apt that they always go to. The three of them have a chokehold on the "Big-Ass Bowl of Spicy-Ass Ramen eaten the fastest" title as they are currently in a three way tie that not they nor anyone else can beat.

Ace flirts with Sanji and his brothers give him flack for it, saying he's just trying to get a free meal!! support your local businesses, Ace! pay for you meal!!

Luffy always be challenging his brothers to spontaneous races and is always surprised when he inevitably loses. Sorry lil guy, they just got longer legs than you, not your fault.

They love trying new weird food. Whenever they see some kind of afront of nature that a snack-food company put out, like buffalo sauce flavored pretzels or plant based jerky, they'll absolutely buy and try it. It never goes well. Ever.

Ace and Sabo are the main Money Makers for their household. Luffy is always trying to get a job, though. Under the off chance he's actually hired though, his employment is usually terminated sometime within his first day. He's trying his best, man.

Whenever theyre having an issue in their household that they dont know how to combat, they call Dadan for advice. Kinda like those scavenger monkey themed guys from the beginning of Skypeia.

Thats all i have for now, sorry for any typo's. I could add on to this list later if I have any new ideas. i'll probably draw some of that modern au, too.

Co-Announcer: Many people thought he wouldn't be playing today because, being a World Rep., his powers give him an unfair advantage.

Announcer: But he assured us he wouldn't use those powers. They're passing the ball to him. He's nearing the end of the field. He's going... Going... TOUCHDOWN! YOYOGI BUFFALOS WIN!

You just watched Wakan Tanka's team win the game after he promised he would not use his World Representative powers. He won like a mortal, which was already doing before becoming a World Rep.

Shiro: I've read about them, as well. Don't worry, I'll teach you everything I know about prom etiquette. First, we'll need something nice to wear.

Lupin: I'll call Arachne and see if she can bring us something.

Shiro: Maybe just for yourself. We still have our fancy clothes from some time back.

Claude: Well that's a shame. Maybe next time you'll take me up on my offer.

Lupin: ... Claude, this is about more than just celebrating us winning a football game, isn't it?

Claude: You know us, too well. No wonder you because one of our top champions. Wakan Tanka, we know that in some way, you've pretty much left the Invaders. But I have heard about the incident in the virtual fairy tale world. How you managed to free everyone trapped there.

Claude: We just wanted you to know that if you ever need a new Guild to be in, we always have room for one more with the Berserkers.

Wildin' in Detroit

Hey y’all! This is a rewrite of an older Detroit: Become Human work that I had uploaded to AO3 sometime last year. They had just gotten off of work at a quaint bookstore in the center of Detroit a couple of hours ago, and their friends, Hank, Connor, and Gavin, had just gotten off of a shift at the Detroit Police Department. After a couple of moments of deciding, they decided to text them about some plans that they have considered.

Hey y’all, would you guys be down for some food at Biggie’s? Think it’d be fun to have a little night out this Friday.

Yeah, I’ll be there in about 10 mins. Connor is coming along too. - Hank

They showed up at Biggie’s a couple of minutes after 7, the music already making the place livelier, along with the scent of savory foods, and laughter from the crowd of people. Dim lighting set the place up for a feeling of something so serene, and yet alive. A dream-like haze in a way.

Hank showed up with Connor alongside him a couple of minutes later, spotting them sitting in a booth near the back of the restaurant.

“Hey kiddo! Sorry for leaving you here all alone for a bit.��� He sat down in the booth and smiled. “Are you doing alright?” he asked politely.

“No, yeah I’m alright Lieutenant,” they responded. “What about you? Hopefully the Detroit traffic didn’t slow you down too bad,” they laughed.

“Nah, don’t worry about me, I made it here in one piece.” Hank shrugged.

The music continued to float through the air, a generic top 50’s hit humming in the background of the now crowded restaurant. Buffalo chicken wings and some refreshments made their way to the table by Connor, and Hank thanked him for it. They all sat there in silence, sipping their drinks, enjoying the atmosphere of a warm Friday night in Detroit. 

“Hey, guys! Sorry I’m late.” Gavin said as he sat down in the booth. “Detroit traffic got to me.” Hank rolled his eyes at him.

“Yeah, yeah, whatever Reed.” He took a sip of his drink.

Gavin eventually got up and out of the booth to get a drink at the bar, leaving Hank and Connor with them. 

“You look like you’re enjoying those chicken wings Lieutenant. They must be appetizing,” Connor said with a soft smile.

“Damn straight! You can’t find these anywhere but Biggie’s.” He said as he finished the last of his wings.

A couple of minutes passed by and Reed was nowhere to be found yet. It seemed eerily quiet at the table without his banter and complaints about seemingly anything, and the music playing in the restaurant over the silence didn’t help.

“Hey uh,” Hank started, “does anyone want to check up on Reed to make sure he didn’t start a fire or something?” he chuckled looking at Connor.

“Sure thing Lieutenant, let me just run a scan of the—”

“Howdy partners! How are y’all doing on this beautiful night?” Gavin said over-enthusiastically in a southern accent.

“Hey Reed. Quick question, how much did you already drink?” they questioned.

“None! I’m just living my life!”

Connor looked at him skeptically, “My scans indicate that your BAC levels are higher than sobriety,”

“Damn, robocop got me there,” Gavin sighed, “but I have a wonderful idea.” He smirked.

“Oh god Reed, it’s never a good idea if it comes out of your mouth.” Hank groaned into his palm.

Gavin chuckled, “You wouldn’t believe it old man! My ideas are masterpieces!”

Hank sipped on his beer quietly while Gavin continued giggling for a while. He wasn’t usually this giggly, his facial expressions consisted of a stale frown or a blank stare.

“C’mon Reed spit it out, what got you cracking up and sounding like a hyena?” they asked.

“Why since you asked, why don’t you join me in the honors of singing some karaoke with me?” He stuck out his hand as he got up, stumbling a little.

They looked back and saw Hank chuckling to himself while recording this on his phone, while Connor sat there observing the scene in front of him. The beginning of the song started to play, and people moved their attention to the karaoke machine near the center of the restaurant. Whistles and cheers started up as the song progressed further.

“You high, baby?” They started off.

“Yeah…” Reed continued with a smirk.

“Yeah?” 

“Talk to me…” 

“You want me to tell you something?”

“Uh-huh,” 

“I know what you wanna hear.”

Both Gavin and them sang that part at the same time, making each other lose their composure for a quick second.

“I know you want me baby, I think I want you too.”

“I think I love you baby!” Gavin hollered with an embarrassing voice crack. Hank was sitting hunched over, and dying of laughter. Connor lost composure as well, his smiling lighting up and his LED a spinning yellow trying to process the situation. 

After what seemed like hours, the song came to an end, and the four of them walked out of the restaurant. The cool air helped Gavin sober up a bit and calmed the rest of them down from their laughter.

“Hey guys?” Gavin started, “you guys aren’t going to remember this, right?”

“Remember this? No totally not,” Hank said sarcastically.

“M’kay just wonderin’,” he smiled dumbly.

Pittsford to Newark

We began our day at the Village Bakery & Cafe with a gift card from the B&B. It was delicious and a great start to the day. We headed out for a relatively short 30 mile day. Yesterday we met a couple guys who are doing the whole trail in 6 days with 60 mile days. For me, that might feel more like an accomplishment than a vacation. I want both! The trail was fairly uneventful today. We rode through Fairport, but didn’t stop. Cute town.

We stopped at Lock 30 in Macedon for a stretch and water break. No boats coming through, but I guess the last one went west to east because the water was down.

At lock 29, just before Palmyra, we went through Pal-Mac Aqueduct Park and saw some of the ruins there. I was talking with a man who said they have been cleaning it up and working on it. He said it has been years since he could see the aqueduct because of all the overgrowth. My picture didn’t capture it well but the arches are back there in the picture on the right.

There were 3 major construction time periods for the canal. The original construction between 1817 and 1825. Widening was done between 1835 and 1862 and we think this was mainly in the same path as the original canal. They just made it deeper and wider. The third major renovation between 1905 and 1918. This was a widening and deepening project where they also rerouted the canal around some of the larger towns. Remember back to Lockport? The electric gates were built over 100 years ago with this last expansion. I need to find a map that shows how much shift there has been in the routing of the canal with the last expansion.

Most of the time we have been riding by the currently working canal, but today we got some glimpses of the original 1825 canal after we passed the aqueduct. Maybe it was also widened after 1835, I am not sure. Back near Buffalo we saw where the original 1825 canal was built but there was no water - just grass at that historical marker. There is not much boat traffic in these waters!

We made it to Newark around 1:00 and was killing time to check in, take showers, and do laundry. We ran into Andi and Brad again by the canal. They had discovered that the Newark Chamber of Commerce sponsors a canal facility for boaters (and bikers) with restrooms, showers, laundry, and water hookups. Thank you Newark! A lot of businesses and restaurants were closed for Labor Day. It was great that this resource is available. The clothes are clean now!

Tonight we are staying at the Vintage Gardens Bed and Breakfast. It is a beautiful home on High Street in Newark.

He hasn’t touched his tapas. Like, you ask why he hasn’t touched his food. He says that he doesn’t eat at night, he absorbs nutrients through the oxygen he breathes. He asks if you’d like having beef parmesan roll-ups eaten off your naked body in the middle of a public park during a mild spring morning, instead. You look at your watch. Oh, it’s only been thirty minutes since this date started. You eat your food and agree to sit in the parking lot. That doesn’t last long, because he tells you that he needs to go to his hyperbaric chamber and take a nap. You’re left mystified. Therapy is super interesting for you, that following Thursday. The next time you see him is near the frozen buffalo chicken pocket snacks at Trader Joe’s, he says nothing to you. You want him so bad and you don’t know why. You shouldn’t. The only thing you buy is some bananas and dish soap. In a daze. Anyway, he’s sexy like that.❞

If there is any solace in COVID happening its that all these commercials of people eating out at as a group at like Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebee’s and so forth. Seem super ridiculous. Whereas before I felt bad for not eating out with some sort of company or having any close friends near me. Now it feels like things has switched. Lot of people are choosing online and take outs, eating at home rather than at restaurants. Not as many places near me are “filling out” even on Fridays and the weekend. I don’t feel any “drive” or “guilt” about not going out and mingling with people. Now all these commercials feel like a farce. How can one ever go back to normal when the normal has shifted so aggressively in the polar opposite direction. I rarely see a crowded super market or packed movie theaters any more. I finally feel extremely relaxed and comfortable even when leaving the house. No need for over talking, making discussion, just go do my grocery runs or whatever and circle on back without much traffic still either. Though that might just be me. While there are movies and shows written about people growing anxious in solitude. For me I feel like a thrive in it. Things feel simpler now than they were before somehow.

Met Tumblr blogger Allan at 8:00AM at his choice restaurant.  It was closed. So we went to McDonald’s.  I then followed him down the road. I parked my van and rode with him up a steep winding road to Big Horn Gorge at Devils Canyon Overlook.  Nice views in an arid landscape with a lake at the bottom of the gorge. Next he took me to see a small highland waterfall at Five Springs Fall.  The road was narrow overlooking a valley.  Good colorful views.  Back at my van Allan let me go onward by myself.  Drove on a steep, winding, US14A. It climbed to a high elevation plateau with numerous mountain meadows.  I stopped at Crystal Creek Overlook and at Crystal Creek Rest Area I walk into the meadows for a pose.   Next was a dirt road leading to the Medicine Wheel.   At the parking lot another mile and a half by walking.  A prayer group was at the wheel.  It was windy and cold.  Also Pasque flowers were in bloom along the trail.  Continued on US14A to the US14 intersection. The road began its descent steeply along the escarpment to the valley below.  Drove to a KOA campground near Buffalo, WY for the night. Used the pool and had supper before the sprinkles began again.  Had trouble sending my nightly emails, but got the job done.   It was a good day.
