Spotlight on Buddy Brew

Buddy Brew, a specialty coffee roaster, has only the best of intentions for Tampa Bay which shines through its motto “brew good and do good.” Buddy Brew believes coffee should be extraordinary. They source the highest quality beans from the best farms around the world. Then they artfully hand roasts each bean to its individual perfection. 

Founders Dave and Susan Ward began Buddy Brew with Christmas presents to their friends. They home-roasted coffee beans and jokingly created a label for the brew named after their dog Buddy. Now a Tampa staple, Buddy Brew has five locations in the greater Tampa Bay area. Also, their coffee is sold is select Publix and Whole Foods. 

Right now, they have two special releases. The Old Florida Roast has tasting notes of fresh citrus, sugarcane, and sunshine! And with every purchase of a  limited edition black and rose gold bags, $1 is donated to Nourish, helping provide proper nutrition to children in our community. That’s just one way that Buddy Brew lives out “brew good and do good.”

From the exceptional service, beautiful interiors, and delicious menu offerings, Buddy Brew makes it obvious that details matter. Their first coffee bar opened in Tampa, Florida in 2010 and they have been on a passionate quest for coffee ever since!

I’m back. Sorry to have gone mia on ya...i just really needed some time to myself. Time to reflect and re-define who I am and what I want in this lifetime. Time to assess my relationship with avocados. And what better way to internalize the lesson of the avocado than to eat one. The placement of the eggs next to the green goddess of vegetables would have been just fine if the egg was wet inside and ready to get all entangled in the avocado atop the bread. However, the egg was left alone in the pot for a little too long because that yolk dried up quickly. Too hard to smear, it crumbled and did not make for an easy shear as I was anticipating. Regardless, avocados are so agreeable, it went with the flow and flirted with the chicken’s gift anyways. Making sure to get a little scoop of everything before poking into the slightly burnt bread — I’d prefer it burnt over soggy, just sayin— the mixed mound made its way to my lips and passed through with no hesitation. What hit the tongue revealed that life is still full of surprises. The crunch of the bread, grasping the creaminess of the avocado and egg, tumbled around my mouth, sending little tickling jolts of delight with every hint of lime and flake of pepper. Panting slightly from the spiciness of the red flake, I tossed my head back with indulgence. Avocado toast is a classic, but this one was special. Fresh Starts

How we start our day is imperative to the hours that follow. A long, leisurely morning can clear the mind and set the day right. It may mean waking up an hour earlier, but it’s (arguably) well worth it. 

We love taking a stroll through Hyde Park Village, stopping at Piquant for a croissant donut and heading to Buddy Brew for coffee. 

Oxford Exchange is a great place to acquire a dose of inspiration along with your tea or coffee. Peruse the bookshop in the morning to get the creativity going.

Take a book home with you to enjoy in your own library, like this one in thoughtfully designed kitchen by Environstudio. 

Pop into Chocolate Pi at the Epicurean Hotel for a coffee and baked good to start the day off sweet.

And if you prefer to spend your mornings at home, an espresso machine is a must. Sample Properties incorporate amazing build-ins into their kitchens.
