I knew exactly what I wanted. And I was going to get it. I imagined the feeling of swirling the smoothness around my tongue. Olives had been on my mind since the day before. And the fact that I had to wait to get em...well let’s just say the anticipation was a lot to bare. The way I described what I wanted the day before was almost a recount of what it was like the last time. And it served as the talk before the walk for what I was about to devour. The heap of Italian gold, nestled amongst a crumbled feta. I gently coaxed an olive into my mouth with a little nudge from my fork. The first bite sent a rush of bliss through my entire body. Ever so slightly dipped in brine, and ripe to perfection. It was hard to pull away, and I didn’t succeed until after I had enjoyed my fill. Even after the main course began, I kept going back to what began the night because it was that tasty. I see why putting one of these in a martini makes it dirty. I tenderly cut through the layers with my fork before taking hold of what I could handle. After lathering the little pillow of bliss with the sweet sauce of a tall, chiseled, maple tree, I lifted my fork, eager in anticipation. My tongue met the fluff of pancake before it even got past my lips. I was thrown on a carousel of flavors, riding the beet pancake, while catching wind of the creamy cardamom. With a rising hint of mint, I lost control as my eyes rolled to the back of my head at a citrus crescendo. Wow. That was amazing. I was craving brioche French toast for at least 24 hours. But it wasn’t the timing that got me, it was the crescendo of desire, begging to be appeased. To my disappointment, brioche had been taken off the menu. In its place, I was promised that the thick cut white toast would make a good substitute. I refused. I call them gift pockets from the gods. I had to give it a gentle nibble to let some of the pent up steam escape. There was no way I would’ve been able to handle the whole pouch in one mouthful. I never understood orgies...I heard about them in history but always thought intimacy was a very two-party type of party. Until I got this meeting of the minds. Now I understand why the more the merrier. Peaking out from underneath is the turkey. Lean, moist, tender, supple, soft enough to melt in your mouth. One bite, dipped in sauce and I’m licking velvet. The ribs, both pork and beef, christened with the charring from the fire. The sausage, plump and juicy, spiced with a seasoning for the gods divine. The brisket...ohhh the brisket. Lean, glistening, and a perfect mouthful. I had to come up for air and freshen up with some brisk coleslaw and a dollop of potato salad.
