I have a killer headache but can’t fall asleep to nap it off, so I’ve just been lying here thinking about Buddy and Macaroni Samsonite? Ty Liam and Travis for my LIFE but anyway:
Buddy and Mac settling in for the night and Mac falling asleep on top of Buddy with his little bone-clad arms wrapped around as much of Buddy’s back/shoulders as possible. If you look at his face in the firelight it’s kind of sweet, relaxed and drooling slightly, but all the spikes cast weird shadows and when you look from a distance he just looks ominous, like he could roll over and stab Buddy in a flash. (He won’t.)
Buddy’s a bi-romantic/pan-romantic ace send tweet.
Usually Buddy only picks Mac up by the scruff of the neck when he’s in danger, but after they join the Derrington brigade he occasionally does it on Tary’s orders when Mac’s being particularly aggressive. It does not make him less feral, though he does eventually stop kicking and flailing and let Buddy cuddle him up into a calm-down hug, which he inevitably endures looking like a wet and grumpy house cat.
The fight that takes Farriwen down is in rough terrain that Buddy moves through like it’s nothing, and when she falls, Mac shrieks in his ear to bring Farriwen to him, fast. Buddy does, his big hands picking her up gently and depositing her into the chariot on his back. He grunts in pain as sharp teeth sink into his side, where he left an opening trying to be gentle with Farriwen, but Mac’s already climbing around inside the chariot, getting his hands on Farriwen’s face to bring her back up again, and Hazel throws a quick healing word at Buddy instead, smiling at all three of them. Buddy smiles back. Hazel is pretty.
Buddy always wants to hear a story when they all bed down for the night while camping. Mac pretends it’s dumb and he doesn’t, but eventually all storytellers find themselves staring into two rapt pairs of eyes as Mac leans toward them so far he almost falls off of Buddy and Buddy nods and listens and makes little surprised noises and doesn’t realize Mac’s about to slip.
Damian designed all her own tattoos and when she tells Buddy this he’s fascinated. “You make the pictures?” She says she does and it’s easy and his eyes get even wider and she finds herself, unexpectedly, a little bit in love. Her sketchbook is way too small for him to use, but the next time they get back to Deastock, she acquires some very large canvases and some paint and they set up a little studio together. Buddy’s not very good at realism, but he’s enthusiastic and his work has charm and Mac insists on hanging the portrait Buddy did of him up in their room even though it’s the first thing he’s ever painted and didn’t come out quite right. (Damian will never, ever, ever admit how much she treasures her own portrait and if someone ever worked it out, she’d definitely have to stab them.)
Once Buddy’s had a little more practice, Mac starts letting him design some new tattoos for him. Buddy insists that all of them be of pretty things, but Buddy’s definition of “pretty” is broad enough to encompass all the tough, gritty stuff he likes, anyway. He does end up with a very delicate floral one half-inspired by Farriwen’s wind patterns on the back of his neck, but he can hide that behind his collar and his hair, so that’s alright.
Buddy doesn’t get to design Damian’s new back piece when she decides to get one, but he “helps” with all the sketches by gasping and telling her they’re pretty and then grunting and drawing additions on his own copy on his canvas. She takes some, but not all, of his suggestions.
Everyone laughs when The Owlbear flubs an attempt at stealth and Buddy asks, innocent and concerned, if he wants to hide in the chariot, but once the offer’s been made, Mac finds himself sharing the space fairly often. Sort of. The Owlbear prefers crouching on the outside of the chariot, one arm locked on to the side as he leans out and lets the wind blow his cape dramatically.
The Owlbear CAN do a lot of damage by hunkering down in the chariot and then leaping out with his arms outstretched in the silhouette of (he thinks) an Owlbear and stabbing whoever he lands on.
Sometimes Mac has to share chariot space just because someone else is tired or injured or ill. The rocking, swaying motion as Buddy walks is soothing. Once, Tary commented that it was “cute” that Mac and Hazel had ended up all cuddled up and napping up there while she recovered from being quite badly stabbed. Mac bit him and Buddy had to drag him off their boss before he could get his claws in.
(It was cute, though. Damian has sketches. It was also cute when Mac ended up cuddled against Farriwen in a similar situation. Buddy’s the one who drew him asleep with Damian and with The Owlbear, though. Damian hid both drawings so Mac wouldn’t feel betrayed.)
Mac picks up a level of monk shit from Farriwen, but it’s so distressing for Buddy when he jumps down into the thick of things that he doesn’t get to use it as much as he’d hoped. He could, of course, but he’s not a monster. (And he can’t punch fire yet, so what’s the point? Sacred flame works fine.)

I love how most of the Nein are often worried about Jester being hapless and naive, and she's over here worried about Caduceus being hapless and naive. So many Rumblecusp moments- her helping pull him out of the tar pits, her "Caduceus?! Why Caduceus?!" when the Bodak went for him, and cradling him in her talons so he could drink tea, the DEVASTATED look on her face at the end of 103, frantically casting Freedom of Movement on Beau to go after him because there's no time to talk, her soft "be CAREFUL, Caduceus" when he wanted to go walk around Vo, then she just ends up going with him, 'cause baby boy cannot be left to his own devices…
She's just dealing with A Lot right now and really can't handle anything happening to her sweet, dumb, firbolg brother.

[ID: A tweet from Dark Horse Comics @.DarkHorseComics that reads: “Best bear buddy Trinket gets his own character reference sheet for the #CriticalRole comics, naturally! The @.CriticalRole: Vox Machina Origins Library Edition Vol. 1 collection is out next week,” with the link provided below. There is one picture attached of Trinket’s reference sheet, depicting him from three angles as a large brown bear with a shiny black nose and a curious expression. In the corner of the sheet it says “Even though everyone’s favorite Wonder Bear didn’t necessarily need a new design for series II, he got an adorable reference sheet anyway!” /end ID]

I'm so glad that I can finally talk about the oneshot.
Sam's newfound passion for the Dallas Cowboys is misplaced but admirable.
The Owlbear's religion is Justice and in no way Batman.
You could see Marisha's sequin coat from the second balcony, it's THAT shiny and incredible.
Ashley may have left New York, but New York never left her.
I love both Buddy Theadventurezone and Buddy Criticalrole.
I looked like a mad child in the retail store I work at during Black Friday because every time I think about Macaroni I lose my shit.

Darrington Brigade - Pretty
Thought of another one. This was supposed to be a headcanon post but I guess it’s a ficlet now. I’m not gonna bother switching it all over into past tense though.
*******
When Buddy decides, very seriously, that he wants a tattoo, Tary floats the idea of matching DB tattoos and is immediately shot down because it doesn’t fit with half his members’ existing aesthetics.
It takes him a long time to decide on a tattoo. Decisions are hard.
Damian, Farriwen, and Mac all help, patiently spending hours sprawled across the floor in the boys’ room drawing things and looking at pictures together.
He’s finally happy when Damian presents him with an abstract pattern pieced together from the many things they’d drawn and discussed and drawn again and set aside. He jumps up and down, shaking the whole room, and Damian’s smirk is so big it almost passes for a smile.
Buddy waits breathlessly for Mac’s approval, watching him look the paper over, and then Mac starts whooping and hollaring, a smile breaking out only after he’s exclaimed that it’s perfect. Buddy’s answering smile is slower still, waiting to be sure, but Farriwen wishes she could draw, too, just to capture the joy in it. Maybe she ought to talk to Hazel about that.
Hazel wants to record the actual tattooing for posterity, but when the needle actually starts, Buddy whines in the back of his throat, a pained, betrayed sound even though the others had told him it might hurt. He’s tough, and they know it, and he doesn’t scream or cry out, but the little grumphing sounds of discomfort aren’t something Hazel wants to remember, after all, so she slides the cylinder out of the audiomatic and switches to playing a recording Buddy likes of a story Larry told them about him and Tary bringing the dogs home.
It’s the only recording they have that doesn’t completely set Tary off to advantage, but she recorded it live from Larry as he told it, and the fondness in his voice when he says his husband’s name makes up for it.
Buddy’s upper back, shoulders, and upper arms are a lot of real estate, so he isn’t done when the story ends. He asks her to tell the one about them all meeting, and she does, without a recording this time, holding one hand while Farriwen holds the other and blows a cool breeze gently across his forehead. Damian interrupts the request from her seat on a counter a few feet away, to tell him he’s doing great, and Mac agrees from where he’s been scrambling up and down off of furniture behind the tattoo artist, trying to get a good eye on the process.
The tattooist bandages Buddy up as soon and fast as he can, to keep everything covered and clean, and nobody gets a good look at the full thing until the bandages come off that evening.
Lionel and The Owlbear help him take the bandages off, and everybody else stands behind him and stares.
“Am I - pretty?” he asks, his voice quieter than usual.
“Buddy,” Mac announces, flinging his arms out, “You are beautiful.”
“Yeah,” Damian agrees, “It came out great.”
“Now that’s a sight to record for posterity,” Hazel said, “Doty, have you got that? I only do sound.”
Farriwen floats into the air and kisses him on the cheek, and he’s still blushing over it when Lionel tells him he was always pretty, but the tattoo looks real nice, too, and he has to cover his face.
The Owlbear’s eyes dart to one side and the other and he sidles up to Buddy’s ear to ask him if he wants him to hide him. He doesn’t, but it’s a nice thought.
Tary asks if he can use the design as part of the cover for his next book.
Buddy doesn’t stop covering his face until Mac drags over a table and then a chair and climbs from one to the other to peel Buddy’s hands forcibly away from his eyes. He leans in so Buddy can’t look away and says, “Hey, listen. We came here for friends. It’s ok to let them like you.”
“I’m pretty,” Buddy answers, voice half wonder and half disbelief.
Mac pulls back and slugs Buddy in the sternum, dead centered on his heart, but not hard enough to hurt. “You always were, big guy. Now come on, let’s go show Mrs. Darrington your new ink. She’s always so nice, getting us extra food.”
Buddy’s face spreads into a slow smile. “Yeah. Ok.”
Once Mac’s down off the table and on the floor, leading Buddy by the hand is pretty awkward, but they’ve done it before, and Buddy follows obediently, Farrowin hovering lightly in the air behind him as she continues to take in the intricacies of the design, which weren’t made any simpler once they were transferred from Damian to the artist.
The others trail after them, and Hazel nudges Damian’s hip with her elbow. “Hey, here’s looking at you! The artwork’s gorgeous.”
Damian’s eyebrows contract and she looks away, something Hazel recognizes as a relatively rare show of embarrassment. “Oh, well, you see, he did most of it. He thought of it, I mean. I just put the pieces together. ‘Cause he’s - you know, beautiful on the inside or whatever. I was just tryna get it out to the outside.”
“Well, you did so admirably,” Hazel answers.
In the back, The Owlbear pronounces, “Evil quakes this day, as it must always do in the face of the just, the true, and the beautiful.”
Nobody laughs, but Damian’s smile slides a little sideways as she says “Yeah, alright, I guess he’s pretty good.”
She’s right.

i am starting Avatar: The Last Airbender today after years of @hoot-h00t and many others telling me to do so. it is a show i know i will love but have not yet watched, which i now realize was the universe saving it for me for a time when i really needed it. before i watch it, here are the things i have absorbed from osmosis:
aang is a sweet but slightly unhinged boy. he is the avatar which EITHER means he can bend all the elements OR that he can bend air which is super rare, I’ve never been entirely clear on this. pretty sure this is going to be one of those things where he’s doing very awesome and hardcore stuff and going through a lot of hardship but also. he’s a CHILD. he was frozen in ice and i’m not sure how or why
katara is my favorite character. she has ALL the braincells of this group. has chemistry with zuko but ends up with aang in the end I think. waterbends, and does so very well. is sokka’s sister. is probably underappreciated by the fandom
sokka looks like a boy version of beau criticalrole. i think he’s not an element-bender but has...other skills? unclear. he learns to drink respecting women juice sometime in the first season and his girlfriend turns into the moon and when he tells zuko about this zuko responds with “that’s rough buddy”
toph is blind and an earthbender and very sarcastic and i think the second-strongest element-bender after aang and is dope as hell. gives me strong lesbian vibes
zuko is a firebender who is initially a bad guy but has the best redemption arc in all of cinema. his father gave him the scar on his face which makes me very :( even without having watched the show
zuko’s sister is named azula and she’s evil but COULD have also had a cool redemption arc if the show was longer. presumably also a fire bender.
there is a big dog
someone is named uncle iroh and i am about 95% sure that this is a different character from the dog but i did have to think about it as i was making this post
there IS a war in ba sing se despite all reports to the contrary. this and the fact that the fire nation attacked are the only things i know about the plot, which is frankly iconic considering how many gifsets i have seen. LOVE to be surprised by things
