The librarian leans in close. “Books… unavailable to the average citizen, warlock? I believe I can help you.” She leads you through winding halls until you come to a tiny doorway. Surreptitiously, she slips a small key into the lock and motions you in. Torches flicker, and as your eyes adjust to the light, you see that the room is full floor-to-cieling with… gnome erotica.

Backstory: GORARATH
Brain Storm Session 1:
Mercenary - solo dolo - indulgence = angry music (?) - dispenses justice ($$)
Childhood:
Hatched in “middle class” small settlement of Mavagav nestled in a northern valley near the Ovidyas Mountains (bleed into it). When he was 12 he had to trek in the nearby mountainous woods to prove that GORARATH had the honor of a dragonborn (cultural thing). “When yo gizzard drops” you must survive for 3 days alone in the woods to prove your honor.
Found stream and followed “that shit” east bringing him further into the Ovidyas Mountains. He came across much more urban areas with bigger populations (of mostly dwarves and humans).
On his trek he meets a person who ends up being his mentor. A Tauren who he found “white knighting” by killing a rapist - turns out this Tauren was a vigilante. Petou was their name. Petou was really artful about their killing because they were “making a point man, you know dude?”
Gorarath returned after his 3 day trek and started to regularly visit Petou in whatever local town or village they were in. Sometimes they’d kill jerks, mostly they just walked around and talked deep shit. Anyways, they ended up traveling together, doing their vigilante thing. During this time GORARATH kind of cared about the lawfulness of what they were doing but also indifferent.
A person (dwarf?) is following them and their string of artful deaths from village to village and doesn’t like what they are doing. That person has the whole “who are you to decide who gets to die” and decides it is their job to “end their TIRADE OF DEATH.”
Basically this person ends up killing Petou in a way GORARATH found distasteful. It was sloppy and not elegant like their killings. Maybe a shitty one sided knife fight (Petou has no knife). GORARATH “ripped that muthfucka apart.” Felt this was justified - dwarf’s life not worth living.
GORARATH grows pretty bitter after this (25yrs) and returns to his home village. He’s very changed and every is surprised. He talks to an elder and finds out about/treks to a different dragonborn settlement in the western desert wastes of Elyasia. In this culture killing is considered much more honorable. They also took sand baths, wear little armor (because their scales are tougher due to the environment). GORARATH is not fond of this settlement’s environment and some of their practices (see dirt bath) and appreciates the culture and learns a lot.
GORARATH gets their gizzard pierced here. This place has lots of physical variation such as “lizardy fans and stuff.” GORARATH ends up creating a fusion fighting style of what Petou taught them (which is about brute force) and this dragonborn culture’s which is more about strategy and movement/intimidation.
Lived there as an experience to learn and grow as a dragonborn and figure out what honor TRULY is. Common acceptance of world curse and pity travelers and merchants that never return from the desert. As a ritual to keep the curse out of their settlement these dragonborns trek to the shore twice a year on the equinoxes and take memorabilia to the ocean where they bury it in the sand on the shore.
Returned to hometown after getting news of a sickness that infected both their parents. By the time they returned it was too late and both had passed along with many of the villagers. GORARATH decides to stay and is tattooed as a mark of elevated status in the settlement. This is when they quit being a mercenary and just sort of sells DANK ASS DRAGONBORN WEED along with keeping the settlement safe and running smoothly. Making sure they have access to food and medical care, as well as serving as a diplomat on the settlements behalf.
---
Doesn’t hold grudge against dwarves, but views them as somewhat lesser beings. No respect unless earned. Must prove their honor. Thinks of them as dishonorable.
Fights when: implied that they aren’t elegant or honorable.
---
Mannerisms: tail swisher, great fashion skills
