When Everything Seems Hopeless
Summery:
What happens when Eddie’s parents find out about his will when their son is injured and in the hospital? And what happens when Tommy realizes that Buck has some feelings for Eddie that he doesn’t even know about?
Buck throws Eddie’s bag on the back seat of his jeep and closes the door. Eddie’s sitting on the passenger seat and waiting for Buck and Tommy to get in the car.
Tommy got out of the hospital and walked towards Buck. “So, everything okay?”
“Yeah… thanks for coming, Tommy. I really appreciate it.”
Buck nodded with a smile.
“Of course, glad I could help.”
Tommy put a hand on Buck’s shoulder.
“Okay… let’s go.”
Buck said and took a step to his car.
“Actually, I think I should go. Mind if I skip coming to Eddie’s?”
“Wait. You’re not coming? You have a shift or something?”
Buck turned to him and frowned.
“No. I just-“
Tommy paused for a second before smiling.
“You’re gonna be at your loft tonight, right?”
“Right…”
Buck was still confused.
“I’ll see you then. Okay?”
And before Buck could say something, Tommy gave him a hug and a quick peck on the cheek.
Buck finally stopped looking at Tommy walking away, when he got in his car, and got on the jeep.
“Hey, where’s Tommy?”
Eddie asked.
“Uh… he had to go.”
“An emergency?”
“I’m… not sure. We’re meeting at my place tonight.”
Buck said and started the car.
Eddie rested his head on the seat and looked at Buck for a second before saying anything.
“Hey… thanks for taking care of Chris while I was gone.”
“Well, it wasn’t just me. Everyone helped.”
“Yeah, I know. But I also know that if it wasn’t for you, Chris couldn’t have handled it.”
Buck turned his head to Eddie for a second before looking at the road again. “I’m not sure if I could’ve either.”
He swallowed slowly.
“I’m glad you’re okay, Eddie.”
And in return, Buck got a soft and genuine smile from him.

"I'm going to ask Tommy to marry me." Buck says out of the blue one random evening, sitting in Eddie's living room, spread out in the armchair, sipping a beer, eyes on the TV, where Eddie and Christopher are playing a video game. His tone is even and firm, not even a hint of hesitation, it's not a huge revelation, or even a decision he's made just now. He's been thinking about it for weeks, maybe months. He doesn't know why he says it now, it just slips out - maybe he just needed to talk to his best friend about it.
"Really?" he hears a hint of surprise in Eddie's voice, but when he looks at his best friend, he's still focused on trying to beat his son at the game. He's smiling, sparing a glance at Buck. "That's great, Buck."
"Yeah?" he breathes out, feeling even more settled now. He wasn't nervous, exactly, but still felt kind of like he did when he came out to Eddie. Like he just wanted his best friend to approve, to support him - and he had no doubt he would.
"Of course," Eddie answers easily. "You guys are perfect together, and you love each other, and if you're sure you want to spend the rest of your life with Tommy, yeah, go for it. I'm happy for you," he adds, finally looking at Buck, a soft, genuine smile on his face. Christopher uses this moment to win the game, and Eddie groans at his triumphant yell. "Aw, not fair, Buck distracted me." Both Buck and Chis laugh, while Eddie pouts for a moment, before a smile breaks through anyway.
"Well, I won." Chris shrugs with a grin. "And I think it'd be so cool if you and Tommy get married," he adds, moving his attention to Buck.
"Yeah?" Buck repeats, his smile even wider now. Having two of his favorite people not only really love his partner - Buck's pretty sure Tommy's the first one to spend so much time with all of them together, and it feeling so right - but also approve of Buck wanting to tie him into their family forever.
"Duh, Tommy's the coolest." Chris rolls his eyes. "Better lock him down while you can," he jokes, and Buck gasps in surprise. He's such a teenager.
"Wow, rude. He's not going anywhere." he shakes his head with a laugh. That much he's sure of, for the first time in his life he's not scared of getting left, of his partner getting bored or fed up. He knows Tommy's gonna be right at his side no matter what.
"Not if you put a ring on it." Eddie joins his son's teasing. Laughing, Buck reaches over to the table to pick up a chip from a bowl and throw it at Eddie, who dodges it as it lands somewhere on the couch. "Hey!"
"But seriously, you don't think it's too soon?" Buck asks after a moment, a little bit of nerves seeping into his tone. He's more than sure about wanting to marry Tommy. He's just a little scared that he's gonna freak him out. They have talked about this, about their future, what they want out of this relationship, out of life, but they never really discussed any timelines, and Buck might be a little in his head about this. Hence why he needed to talk to someone about it, probably.
"Buck, you've been together for over a year. Some people get married after less." Eddie raises an eyebrow. "When you know, you know." He shrugs, and Buck releases a breath. Because he does know. He has known for a long time now.
"So you think he'll say yes?" Buck asks, but he knows the answer before Eddie has a chance to roll his eyes with fond exasperation. Tommy loves him. He loves Tommy so much his heart wants to burst out of his chest and live in Tommy's. Tommy is his forever, he's sure of it, and he knows that when he asks, and it's going to be very soon, he'll get a positive answer.
"He'll say yes." Eddie says with a small shake of his head and a wide smile. "Now, two important questions from me: who's gonna be your best man, and do you need help planning and picking out a ring?"

8x01 misery missing scene
post the sad zoom birthday party also on ao3 if you prefer
They stick around long enough to help clear up.
The party decorations come down faster than they went up. Each balloon that Buck pops is a perfect mirror to the ball of excitement in his chest that had shattered at Chris’ lacklustre response, at the stuttering video connection. Except, instead of slippery, soft rubber, the shards it left behind are hard, cutting glass.
“The cake was excellent,” Tommy offers, with forced cheer, into the silence that descends once the sound of balloons bursting and streamers rustling stops.
“Take the rest with you,” Eddie says, turning away, heading into the kitchen.
Buck follows him, Tommy close behind, and watches Eddie shove the happy birthday banner into the trash, the party hats too. Buck bites his lip on the protest that Eddie should keep them for next year — he doesn’t think he can bear to hear Eddie voice the fear that they might have as little use for them then as they did today.
“You’re serious about the cake?” Tommy asks, crossing to where it sits on the kitchen table, one solitary slice consumed. Buck had a bite of Tommy’s, and it was good, but he didn’t feel like having his own. And Eddie hadn’t seemed up to stomaching any at all.
“Yep,” Eddie nods, without looking over. “I don’t want it.”
Buck pulls a large tupperware container from the cupboard, hands it over to Tommy, who boxes up the cake. But Buck also takes down a smaller container, saves a single slice, and tucks it away in the fridge. He knows Eddie will crave it later — maybe not tonight, but certainly by tomorrow morning — and will wish he hadn’t given it all away. It will be a nice surprise for him — a much needed one — to find that Buck didn’t let him.
Buck walks the knife used to cut the cake to the sink and Eddie steps in to wash it. Buck hovers at his side, taskless. They had been going to stick around after surprising Chris, have a couple of beers, watch something, but, with how things went, it’s clear that’s not going to happen.
“Eddie,” Buck starts, wants to ask if he’s okay — knows he’s not — but Eddie cuts him off.
“Thanks for coming,” he says, clearly a dismissal, bidding them goodnight without looking up for scrubbing at a knife that must be long clean.
Tommy replies, “Thank you for inviting us,” even though technically only he was; Buck — never a guest in Eddie’s home — more co-host than attendee, had helped to plan the party, and his presence was assumed, certain.
At the same time, Buck says, “Of course.” He wouldn’t have been anywhere else today, on Chris’ birthday. Not unless flying to Texas to actually see him would have been an option. Hell, if Eddie had wanted to drive over to El Paso to visit, Buck would have gladly played chauffeur for the whole twelve hour drive.
Tommy drops a reassuring hand onto the stiff surface that is Eddie’s shoulder, pats it, once, twice, three times, to no noticeable softening. “See you later, man.” He moves to the kitchen door, pauses, looking back at Buck.
Buck takes a tentative step in Tommy’s direction, says, “See you tomorrow, Eds?” It’s supposed to be a statement, like Tommy’s. A stronger one, even, since Buck and Eddie have a shift together the next day, so their seeing each other should be a concrete occurrence, not a vague likelihood. But the words come out sounding more like a question and he doesn’t follow Tommy out of the room until he sees Eddie nod in answer, agreement.
They only make it as far as the front door before the gnawing concern in Buck’s gut is too much.
“Wait,” Buck says as Tommy turns the handle.
Tommy stops, door cracked open an inch, but not opening it any wider, and twists to face Buck, looks at him, expectant.
“I think–” Buck starts, but he doesn’t quite know what he thinks, only that he shouldn’t be leaving now. Even though there’s nothing left to do: all traces of the party stripped away, their evening plans abandoned. Still, he shouldn’t be leaving. Shouldn’t be leaving Eddie. Not like this.
And he should tell Tommy that, explain it to him. Except… He probably doesn’t need to. Tommy knows him, knows Eddie, and he saw firsthand how things went down tonight. So Buck simply asks, “Can I make my own way? Catch you later?”
“Sure, babe.” Tommy’s expression is full of understanding, eyes soft. He tilts his head, slightly. “I’ll wait up for you?”
Buck nods. “Yeah, please.” He leans in, putting his mouth to Tommy’s mouth, pressing goodbye and gratitude into the kiss.
Tommy pulls back, graces Buck with a small curling of his lips, the smile dimmer than his usual given how the evening has played out, and then he’s over the threshold, toting the tupperware filled to the brim with uncelebrated birthday cake with him.
Buck closes the door behind him, gently, then pads back through the house.
Eddie is in the kitchen, but not quite how Buck left him. He’s still facing away, but now, instead of washing the same spot on the blade of the cake knife over and over, he has his hands braced on the edge of the counter, his head hanging down, like the effort of keeping it up has become too much.
He’s got to know Buck hasn’t left, must hear him reentering the room, a single set of footsteps, but he doesn’t acknowledge him in any way.
Buck goes to him. Stands at Eddie’s side, tries to see his expression in his dim reflection in the window, but it’s tricky with Eddie’s face lowered. “Eddie,” Buck says and is finally rewarded with Eddie looking up, raising his head so that his eyes meet Buck’s in the window.
The agony in his gaze is palpable.
Buck doesn’t know how to help. He saw how little comfort Eddie took from Tommy’s touch, so it seems pointless to try the same. But his hands itch to hold, to smooth over Eddie and check for points of pain, even though he knows his hurt is of the heart, not body. Knows it, because his own is the same. Buck hurts too: for Chris, for Eddie, for himself.
“Eddie,” Buck repeats, with no destination in mind except a route out of Eddie’s misery. But, if anything, the anguish displayed plainly on Eddie’s face only deepens. He squeezes his eyes shut and his hands fist, fingers curling in so tight his knuckles whiten.
“I’m losing him,” Eddie says.
“You’re not,” Buck answers back, automatic, but no less insistent for it. Eddie isn’t losing Chris. He can’t be losing him. They can’t be losing him.
“I am,” Eddie pushes back, lifting his hands from the counter to gesture wildly, grief uncontainable. “I’m losing him and it’s all my fault.”
“No.” Buck catches Eddie’s wrists, squeezes them, tries to press his belief, his faith, in Chris and Eddie’s relationship into Eddie’s skin, to transfer it to him. “You made a mistake, but he’s going to forgive you. He just needs a little more time.“
“I don’t think I can take any more time without him,” Eddie confesses, and there are tears shining in his eyes.
Buck drops his hold on Eddie’s arms, but only so he can wind his own around him, tug him into an embrace.
Eddie lets him, tucks his face into Buck’s neck, chokes out, “I just want him to come home.”
“I know,” Buck murmurs, smoothing one hand down the line of Eddie’s spine, his other arm wrapped firmly round his shoulders. “I know. I do too.”
“He loves his grandparents,” Eddie goes on, voice muffled in Buck’s shirt collar. “He could decide to just stay with them.”
“He loves you,” Buck states, an irrefutable fact. This he knows: he has been privileged to witness so much of the love Christopher has for his dad. “He’s not going to stay with them forever.”
“But,” Eddie protests, sounding lost and unsure, his fingers wound in the fabric of Buck’s shirt, his breath damp against Buck skin, “You love your parents. That doesn’t make them good ones. Ones you’d want to be with if you had a better option.”
“You are nothing like my parents.” Buck squeezes Eddie tighter to him, in tune with the ferocity of his words. “You– you are the best father I have ever seen. You love Chris so, so much. And– and he knows you do, he doesn’t have to doubt it.” Not like Buck did, every day of his life.
He continues, “Your mom and dad are not the better option for him. Sure, he’s having a nice summer with them. But, even if he’s still upset right now, I know he’s missing you too. He’s going to come home, because he belongs here, with you.” Of that Buck is sure. It’s Chris and Eddie: their bond is too deep, their relationship too strong, to be broken.
“But,” Eddie says again, “But what if he–”
“No,” Buck stops him, not willing to let Eddie hurt himself with his thoughts, his fears, more than he already has. “Chris loves you, Eddie. And he’s going to come home to you. He is.”
Buck doesn’t know if Eddie fully believes him, but his words are enough that Eddie slumps completely against him in something like relief. And all his stress and hurt over being separated from his son comes pouring out.
As he sobs, the spasming of his chest heaving against Buck’s and the trickle of his tears sliding down Buck’s skin, Buck holds him. Holds him and presses his lips to his temple and thinks please, Chris, please come home soon. Come home to us.

Starlight
buck/eddie | rated: G | 4K | complete | ao3
Summary: On a rare, starry summer night, Buck and Eddie discuss what ifs and make decisions about their future.
“Do you,” Buck says very quietly, so quiet Eddie probably wouldn’t even be able to hear it were they not inches away from being pressed together. It’s too hot out to be pressed together. Too sweaty, soggy, smelly, and their skin would chafe and stick together and probably hurt.
Eddie’s not sure he would care though.
“Do you ever think about,” Buck continues, his question also sticky and meandering and not meant to come out in anything but the secluded darkness of midsummer. “About you and me?”
Eddie swallows hard and doesn’t move. He breathes but there’s no air, no movement. He knows the question. He knows what Buck is asking. He doesn’t stop searching for the stars and all the shapes and figures drawn in connecting lines between them.
There are no lines for real. It’s all made up by people who have brilliant creative imaginations. People like Chris and Buck and Shannon. They’re the kind of people who see the lines, the animals, the heroes, the stories, and invent constellations.
Eddie just sees starlight. Raw, unconnected, faraway stars that were lost a long time ago. “What about you and me?”
Buck breathes slowly, soft inhale and exhale that sounds so loud, and why is it the only sound Eddie can hear? The city is hardly quiet even at this time of night. It’s not that late. But it’s still only the wafting air in and out of Buck’s lungs. The only sound that reaches him. “Eddie. You and me. Dating. Being together. Seeing if it works, if it fits. Do you ever think about it?”
Does the ocean think of tides? Does the forest think of collecting rain and sun? Does the fire know what it consumes? Do the stars know they’re dying, they’re phantoms, they’re already dead?
Something was left in a graveyard and it wasn’t a body. It wasn’t a person. Maybe it was a life though. A life together.
How could he ever believe things left in a graveyard could still be alive?
Buck didn’t even know. Buck never knew. They never got that far. Death and lightning have a way of shocking the system. But everything grows quiet afterward and locked back up once danger has passed. Eddie never said anything. Eddie cut out his thoughts, his feelings, and forced himself to move on and forget. Even though nothing could ever compare. Nothing else could ever fit.
Eddie can’t move, can’t look at him, but he wets his lips and asks, “Do you?”

✨ Inspiration Saturday ✨
So instead of working on the WIPs I already have, my brain decided to think up a new one 😅
Current working title is LA Lonely and here is a mood board and a rough little summary:
Buck meets Eddie and they hook up. Buck feels an instant connection but doesn’t pursue it because he’s only good for one night, no one wants him for keeps. Cue him running into Eddie almost everywhere he goes, like the universe keeps putting Eddie in his path. And Eddie is kind and never makes their interactions feel awkward and the way he smiles at Buck has something warm fluttering to life inside him. Eddie eventually asks him out on a proper date and Buck is so confused because no one wants him for more than a fun time. They don’t want to keep him.
(snippet under the cut)
Tumblr media
“Buck!”
Buck turns towards the voice calling his name to find none other than Christopher from the class field trip at the station last week walking towards him, red crutches click clacking against the floor.
“Hey Chris! What brings you here? Another school field trip?”
Chris scrunches his face up, looking at Buck like he’s grown a second head.
“It’s Saturday.”
“Right. I knew that, I was just checking to see if you did.” Buck says as he points his finger at Chris causing the boy to giggle.
Buck scoots over on the bench making room for Chris to sit down beside him.
“Are your mum or dad with you?” Buck asks as he scans the room behind them for a frantic parent.
“My mum’s dead.”
Oh. Well. Buck has no idea what to do with that.
“Uh, I’m sorry buddy, that’s uh- that’s rough.” He looks around the room again. “What about your Da-“
“Christopher!”
Buck’s head whips around to find a man striding towards them. As he draws closer, Buck's eyes widen in recognition and disbelief because shit, Buck knows him - has seen him naked, felt his body pressed against his own as the guy shoved his cock so deep inside Buck he swore he could feel it in his throat. The memory of their encounter is still fresh in Buck’s mind a week later because it was that good.
“Dad!” Chris says happily, smiling bright and big and holy fuck his hot hookup who gave him one of the best orgasms of his fucking life has a kid.
And is standing right in from on him.
Buck scrambles to his feet, his hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck as he smiles nervously at Eddie. “Uh hi.”
Eddie looks shocked to see him but it quickly melts away, his eyes softening. “Buck, hey.” His mouth quirks up in a small smile and Buck remembers exactly why he brought Eddie home last weekend. He’s so fucking pretty

Fuck It Friday!
How are we all feeling after today chaps (gn)? Not drowning in our feels too much I hope!
I truly said fuck it today and started a new wip. So here I have the very first snippet of Sleepy Mornings (working title), the premise to which you can find here (and if you cbfed looking, it's a collection of all the times Buck wakes up next to Eddie). Please enjoy what will hopefully be something cute and fluffy (with a hint of sex later)!
The first time Buck woke up next to Eddie, he couldn’t for the life of him figure out how he got there. There he was, in a strange bed, head pulsing in time with an inaudible beat, his mouth as dry as the Sahara, with an unfamiliar, warm lump to his right. Buck blinked blearily up at the ceiling and tried to orientate himself. The room was…. beige. That was the only word Buck’s poor, addled brain was coming up with. Beige, with no life, no character. It could have been a hotel room for all he knew. Trying not to panic as his mind ran through a million scenarios – most of which ended with drugged and held captive – Buck tried to play through the events of the previous day. The last thing he remembered was the beauty pageant, standing numbly as he, Eddie and Hen were handcuffed, before being corralled into the back of Athena’s police car. Everything after that was a bit of a blur. There were small flashes of memories; Athena all but dragging him up the steps into someone’s – Eddie’s – house, Eddie suddenly appearing next to him, his face still tearstained as he hiccupped miserably, Athena sitting on the coffee table and gently explaining to the two of them that they’d been drugged, Athena supporting Buck as he threw up messily into Eddie’s toilet. Buck’s cheeks burned as the memories flickered through his mind like a film reel. He was going to have to send one hell of an apology text to Athena. And Eddie too, if the trash can by the side of the bed was anything to go by. A grumble came from the other side of the bed and the covers shifted as Eddie rolled from his side to his back, smacking his lips before settling back into sleep. Buck couldn’t help but admire Eddie’s face, the way the morning light played over it, giving his skin an almost-honey coloured hue. He shook himself, wincing as his head throbbed once again. Now was not the time for weird thoughts about his best friend. If anything, he’d blame it on the drugs. “’die?” Buck mumbled, pushing himself up onto his elbows as he squinted into the too-bright light filtering through the shabby curtains. “Are you 'wake?”

sunbeam that hits at three to noon
buck/eddie | 3.5k | rated t
prompt: accidentally falling asleep on the bed to wake up to someone walking in on them
“What do you mean you’re in the bridal suite?” Buck barks into the phone, pacing up and down the incredibly plush carpeting of this hotel room. “I’m in the fucking bridal suite.” “Okay, Buck, calm down. What do you mean? We’ve got all the romantic stuff laid out—the strawberries and the chocolate and the champagne—” “I’ve got the strawberries and the chocolate and the champagne,” Buck whispers, fingers so tight around his phone he thinks he can hear something cracking. “What?” Maddie asks. “Hmm. Maybe there was a mix-up with the reservations? They’re both under Buckley, so… Do you want me to call the reception?” Buck sighs. “No, no, of course not, Mads. Sorry, I’ll call them. It’s fine, I’ll just—I’ll get another room, because Eddie’ll be here in a few hours…”
or, having multiple wedding reservations under the same name was an accident waiting to happen and buck’s just trying not to jumpscare his best friend with the rather intense bridal suite decor in their very platonically shared hotel room

I Will Carry You
Buck didn’t know how long has it been since he was lying on the floor. His body was still shaking and his back was starting to hurt. He had to get up, he knew he had to. He had to lock the doors and check in on Christopher.
But he couldn’t. His mind wouldn’t let him do it. His head was still hurting but thankfully, the bleeding was stopped.
What just happened?
What just happened to him?
Or
After almost six months, everything is going great for Buck and Eddie. They finally have their perfect little family and they couldn’t be happier.
But someone from Eddie’s past is hunting them down. Someone who only wants revenge.

Dorian with the crown keepers in some quiet taverns in quiet towns as they travel, he's always up late. He can't quite fall asleep well. So he sneaks out to a different tavern than the one they're staying at. He doesn't want to risk someone recognizing him in the morning.
At the new taverns, he goes straight to their stages. The emptier the better but it's not hard for him to convince a half drunk bard to get even drunker.
Sometimes he'd sit on the poorly lit stage and strum his mandolin and not say a word at all as he started to pluck out a tune. The chords are simple at first, something he heard in a dream. Every night spent working, adds another measure. Deeper swells and higher jumps. A mournful reverberation. He was stuck for a while.
Until he hears "glad you're not here... wish you were anyways".
Then, disjointed and seemingly unexpected, a reprise of that first plucking, an octave and a half lower. Still major, still jovial. Just. Deeper. Just... Realer.
I'll fix the transition later, he thought.
That's when the lyrics came. They weren't good but they spilled out of his mouth involuntarily. If it were up to him, those thoughts, those feelings would stay caged in his heart. Instead, a room full of strangers knew him more fully than his intimates.
Protector of air, guard of heart, bulwark of us
His simple plucked out tune, a dreamed up melody for a man he could only dream of.
You say you don't lead. But when I look to you, you're drenched in the boreal crux
A deep and quiet start to the encroaching swell, getting louder and higher.
Crowns of spiders couldn't tempt me astray from your due north
Trilled eight notes that felt like crawling legs and whispy silk on the back of the neck.
I thought you might be the wind caught in my sails. Always only you caught in my fibers
His last word carries a sour note, it sounded wrong, out of tune. Like he was.
A storm by another name, gold and red and melting black, tore us off course
Dorian's run was backwards, like he was free falling from a ledge. Accidentals plaguing it's decent.
It's harder than ever to orient through shades of grey and leave behind no remorse...
That reverberation was accompanied by a strain in his voice. Something that happened every night once he made it to that point. It came next to a swallow of something in his throat. That transition came to him, when Dorian thought about what got him out of his slump, he laughed. Bashfully, sheepishly. He always felt his face burn.
My heart aches. Stay steadfast. Fairer winds...
What a thing to say instead of I miss you.
I have stolen a world away. You are there, I am here. And all I want is to be together when we wake
His melody, their melody, picked up again. His fingers started to pluck staccatos in between the languid chords.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or so they say. This distance has only made mine bleed icar
Dorian wouldn't allow himself to end this with a confession. At least, not one of guilt. It wasn't supposed to be about his straying. It was supposed to be about Orym. It was supposed to be about the man he-
I look for the direction ivy green grows. I look to you still, to find my way.
Sometimes he ended the song with another reprise of his dreamy melody. Sometimes, his fingers would slip on the strings and rancid mistakes would ring out into the crowd. It seemed to depend on how hard they fought that day. How much more Opal stained.
Dorian would always thanked the crowd before taking up the coins that were haphazardly thrown on stage. He wouldn't set out a hat or cup, it wasn't about that, but there was always coin at his feet by the end.
He'd walk quiet streets and thought about Bertrand. Dorian understood now, what he said about walking alone at night. He stepped carefully up lulling tavern stairs thinking about picking up a bottle for a round of "what the fuck is up with that" with friend that weren't waiting for him. He slid into the room he shared with his brother, acknowledging every time that this was the first time they did that. They never shared a room or a bed as children. They didn't share much. Now fully grown, he felt they were more childish than ever.
Dorian curled into himself on his cold side of the bed and thought about how he used to have a pulsing heart beat on his skin. Whether it was across his legs, against his back, against his chest. He never felt loneliness like this before. He never felt the absence of someone before.
And he was worse for it

Sight Smell Touch Hearing and… Taste (Buddie)
He knows so much more than he could ever put into words about him. If you asked Buck to use his fives senses to describe Eddie, he could name every one. Even taste. Though he would not want to tell anyone that.
Because the only part of Eddie that Buck has ever tasted is his blood. The sick tang of metal on his tongue. The sick twisting in his stomach as he felt the blood splatter on his face and mouth. The way he had mistakenly licked it when trying to focus on helping Eddie live.

Unless You Ask Me To
buck/eddie | very minor eddie/omc | 279K | WIP | AO3
It’s not the first time a man has ever looked at Eddie a certain way. It’s not the first time a man has ever hit on him or asked him out. It happens every so often. Not a lot. Once every six months or so? If he had to put a number to it?
But maybe it’s the first time Eddie’s actually considered saying yes.
He’s in a much better place than he was a year ago, and he’s never actually dated that many people. He met Shannon when he was nineteen and high school relationships didn’t really count, and he was technically married until not quite four years ago. And there was only one huge, sad mistake since then.
So, Eddie could say yes.
He could go on a date with this beautiful, nice man. That is a thing he can do. And maybe it would be good. Maybe it would explain a lot of things he’s always wondered about but never put into practice.
~~~
Eddie dates a man for the first time, Buck is completely Fine(tm) and not at all having a breakdown, and the way to love and happiness is not easy but they find it anyway.
loving buck
buddie . 1k words . eddie pov
tags: character study, internalized homophobia, love confessions
summary: eddie diaz loves buck but he doesn’t love himself
Loving Buck is the easiest part.
Everything else is hard. Accepting that he’s been living a lie all this time is hard. Accepting that he’s hurt others—that he’s hurt his son—because he couldn’t look at himself in the mirror and see the person truly staring back—
It’s hard. It’s hard. It’s hard.
