-> Investigation (03)
As the shrill sound of the alarm pierced silence of the morning, you groaned and reluctantly cracked open your eyes. God, if you were tired. You and Bucky had spent the whole previous night with Sam and Dean, talking about the case and getting to know each other a little better. It had been a bit awkward, though, because Bucky didn’t even try to look interested and you weren’t really the social butterfly either.
But those two? Dean was about as social as a dead snake and Sam… at least Sam tried. But it was kind of hard considering the evident fight the two brothers had going on, whatever the reason was.
Tossing aside the sheets, you swung your legs over the edge of the bed, your feet meeting the cold hardwood floor. The sunlight filtered through the curtains and you lazily rubbed your eyes and got up, walking towards the bathroom to take a quick shower.
You didn’t sleep much last night, as your mind kept reminding you of the case you were working on. You had dealt with Hydra-related missions before, but never like this. And for some reason, this time you felt a shiver run down your spine every time you thought about it.
You walked downstairs all refreshed, even if you wouldn’t be opposite to hop into bed once again, and the scent of coffee filled the rooms. You figured it must have been Bucky, since the spot on the couch where he slept on last night was empty. He had refused to sleep in the same bed as you and, honestly, you didn’t comply much. No reason to make the situation more awkward than it already was.
As you walked into the kitchen, your eyes immediately fell on Bucky who was engrossed in the files of the case spread out on the table.
You cleared your throat, breaking the silence as you sat down a few seats away from him. “Morning.”
Bucky glanced up, almost as if he didn’t even hear you walk in. But you know he did, he was just not acknowledging you. “Took you long enough.” He muttered.
You rolled your eyes as you poured yourself some coffee, frowning when you noticed some muffins on the table as well. “Who are those from?”
“I bought them this morning.” He grunted. “As a sweet husband buying breakfast for his wife.”
“Mrs Barnes appreciates.” You mocked him, as you didn’t think twice about eating one of those delicious muffins. You were starving without even realizing. “Anything new?” You asked, referring to the files.
“No.” He simply said. “But I think those two are hiding something.” He admitted, and that made you frown.
“Who? Sam and Dean?”
“Yeah.” He nodded, his eyes finding yours. “Don’t tell me you didn’t notice their behavior yesterday. They’re also related, Fury never sends siblings on a mission together since it could compromise the whole thing if feelings are involved.”
“I did notice, that’s why I called Fury.” You said. “He told me they’re good in what they do and that he had no other options.”
“Sounds weird.” He muttered.
“Very. But Fury knows what he’s doing, so… let’s just go with the flow.” You shrugged, biting the chocolate muffin. “Mrs Barnes would also love some pizza tonight.” You hinted, smirking at his annoyed expression.
“Eat that quickly because Dean is taking you on a trip today.” He rolled his eyes at you, getting up. “Should be here anytime now, I met him early this morning.”
“Uh?”
“He insisted on taking you to interrogate Cassandra’s family today, the nurse. See if you can find a lead or something.” He explained.
“Wasn’t I supposed to be the stay at home wife?” You raises a brown but didn’t complain. You could never complain if it meant trying to solve this case and go back home as soon as possible.
“Change of plans.”
“And you? What are you doing today?” You inquired. Knowing him, he’d never stay at home doing nothing.
“Sam’s gonna come over. There are a few files of missing people we need to look at.”
* * * *
You and Dean stood in front Cassandra’s parents’ house, both of you dressed formally for this. He gave you a fake badge that you had no idea how he got, but didn’t pry as it wasn’t the right time. He adjusted his tie, before turning to look at you. “Ready?” His voice was low, and he wanted to make sure you both were on the same page before starting.
Your nod was all he needed before he ran the bell, the sound was heard even from the outside.
It didn’t take long for someone to open the door, and soon enough it cracked open revealing Mrs Miller’s tear-streaked face. Her eyes were red-rimmed, her expression a mix of grief and suspicion.
“What do you want?” She snapped looking mostly at you rather than him, her voice full of bitterness.
Dean flashed his badge and the action reminded you to do the same, his expression remained stoic mirroring your own. “Mrs Miller, we’re the with the FBI. We need to ask you a few questions about your daughter.”
“Stepdaughter.” She clarified. The woman’s gaze flickered between the both of you, her demeanor was guarded which was rather suspicious. Or maybe it was just grief and she wanted to be left alone, you didn’t know. “I’ve already told the police everything I know. I don’t have time for this.”
You stepped forward as soon as you understood that she was about to close the door. “We understand this is a difficult time for you, Mrs Miller, but we’re here to know more about Cassandra. We want to bring her home.”
“Just…” The woman hesitated for a moment before reluctantly stepping aside, allowing you and Dean to walk inside. “Be quick.”
As you and him stepped over the threshold, you took your time to see your surrounding which weren’t exactly what you expected. Inside, the atmosphere was stagnant. You could see that all the windows in your sight were locked and dusty, which is something you didn’t notice from the outside.
At each step you took towards the living room, the flower beneath your weight cracked. The furniture was dusty, clearly untouched in a long, long time and the cobwebs hung from the ceiling - they almost occupied every angle of the house. The thing that really made you shiver were those pictures hanged on the walls.
The faces of Cassandra’s family starred back at you, their eyes seemed cold and lifeless. There was something off about the way they were arranged, but you couldn’t wrap your head around what it was.
You and Dean sat down onto the worn couch of the dusty living room, the tension could be cut with a knife. Mrs Miller hovered nearby, her movements seemed stiff and unnatural like a marionette being pulled by invisible strings.
On one side, you could understand. This woman had lost her only daughter just a few days ago - even if there were no proof she was dead, both you and Dean suspected it and maybe she thought so too.
Still, you knew something wasn’t quite right with the oldest woman.
Dean’s voice cut through the silence and the tense atmosphere as he began to ask questions about Cassandra’s whereabouts, his tone firm yet empathetic. “Can you tell us about Cassandra’s routine? Did she mention anything unusual happening to her the days before she went missing?”
Mrs Miller shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her eyes flickering for the slightest moment towards the staircase. “She - she was always so independent. She didn’t have - she didn’t tell me much about her comings and goings.” Not once she met his eyes. Nor yours. “She - she had - she had an ex boyfriend I think.”
You saw it then. There was a guardedness in her response, as if she was scared to say the wrong thing and spill too much information.
“Can you think of anyone who wanted to harm Cassandra in anyway?” You inquired, your eyes fixed solely on her. “Maybe this ex boyfriend of hers?“
Mrs Miller’s gaze shifted nervously between you and the man at your side, but when you spoke up her eyes locked onto yours with an intensity that sent a chill down your spine. Nothing ever scared you, but this somehow felt almost supernatural. “Adam was - is - was - an alcoholic. Yes, yes he is an alcoholic.”
“Can you tell us more about their relationship?” You asked, trying to keep your tone neutral.
Mrs Miller’s lips tightened, her eyes staring into yours - she seemed to despise you. She looked at Dean normally, but whenever she turned to look at you it felt like she wanted to come for your neck. “Why do you want to know about - about Adam? What does he have to do with any of this - leave him alone! Please leave him alone!”
“Mrs Miller, we’re not accusing anyone. We just want to know more about Cassandra.” Dean said softly, trying to calm her down.
Her eyes widened, her breath coming in shallow gasps. “She - she was always so careful. Always looked over her shoulders - oh, he needs to eat, do you mind letting him eat?” She started to ramble incoherent words after wards, which left both you and Dean momentarily speechless. “He needs to eat now - it’s the voices. Always whispering - he needs to eat. Always - I need to feed him… where’s my husband? My husband, where’s my husband?”
“It’s best if we leave, Dean.” You whispered as Mrs Miller’s sanity became thinner by the second.
The look she gave you felt almost threatening, as if you had asked something way too personal. “No. He needs to eat.” She said sternly. “Everyone in this family loved her. Everyone. Everyone.” She started to nervously pinch her arm, and you wondered if perhaps you asked the wrong thing. “Everyone loved her.” She repeated again, as if it was a mantra.
Dean was about to say something when you all heard a sudden noise from upstairs, a sharp bang that reverberated through the quiet house. It happened once, then twice and then it transformed to something that you associated with someone scratching wood.
“We should take a look upstairs.” Dean said, keeping his voice slow and steady considering that woman seemed to be getting worse by the second.
In fact, without any of you two saying another word, her composure began to crack; her breathing became more ragged and erratic. Then, without you could comprehend what the fuck was going on, she erupted into a fit of hysterical laughter, the sound echoing off the walls like a sinister symphony.
Before you or Dean could react, Mrs Miller rose to her feet in an instant, her movements were frenetic and unpredictable. “You can’t help her! No one can!” Her laugh intensified if possible.
You wish to say you never assisted to something like this before, but you’d lie. Your composure in front of her meltdown was something that would leave people questioning whether you were sane yourself or not.
“Mrs Mil-”
The woman cut him off in an instant. “You need to leave! You can’t help her!” She yelled, her voice echoing through the house and the cracks on the walls.
From the corner of your eye, you saw Dean wanting to interviene but you were quick to grab his arm. “Dean.” You warned, your voice low as the woman started to throw things around. “Let’s go.”
With one last glance at the crazy woman before you, Dean nodded - to your surprise, he had that same look on your face. He didn’t seem fazed by what was happening which left you with a few questions. Together you made your way to the door with Mrs Miller hysterical screams echoing in your ears.
You two stepped out of there closing the door behind you. Without a word you walked towards his car, but you suddenly stopped in your tracks - slowly, almost as if you felt someone watching you, you turned around again. Your eyes drifted to the upstairs window and your blood ran cold.
In the dim light, a shadowy figure loomed from behind the window; it’s form distorted and twisted. It seemed to sway ominously as if taunting you from the darkness. That thing stared back at you with those empty eyes - literally empty eyes, and your legs refused to move.
Dean followed your gaze, his jaw clenched. “It’s not my imagination, is it?” He muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.
“No.” You answered, your voice not louder than his.
You felt him grab your arm, and the next thing you knew is that he pulled you inside the car and drove away from the house - and you swore you were still feeling those empty eyes on you even when you were far away from it.

Steve must rescue his two closest friends with his sister at his side. But what are the lasting effects of the HYDRA attack, and will their life ever go back to normal after it?

Characters: Kaz Barnes (OC), Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Eden Rogers (OC), Peggy Carter, Johann Schmidt, Howard Stark
A/N: This is based off my desired reality so it mostly revolves around me but lolll enjoy anyways.
Parts: Chapter 1: The Future // Chapter 2: The Barnes Residence
"I can't believe this is goodbye," Kaz said with tears in her eyes.
"Oh shut up, it's not goodbye forever," Eden said, her own eyes sparkling.
"It might be..."
"Don't think like that," Eden smiled. "You'll make it. And you'll find me here waiting for you when you get back." Kaz just nodded. She nearly tackled Eden in a hug, squeezing her tighter than she ever had before.
"Let me say goodbye to Steve." Eden turned to the other Barnes sibling. His lips were pursed as though he was trying to keep tears back himself.
"Well I-" Eden started. Bucky didn't wait for her to finish. He scooped her up in a hug, burying his face in the crook of her neck. She heard him take a shaky breath, and though she was shocked at first, she hugged him back. She hugged him like she would never hug him again. Because quite frankly, she might not.
"I'm gonna miss you Rogers." Bucky whispered into her shoulder.
"I'll miss you too, Barnes," Eden said, ignoring the now fully formed tears that threatened to fall. A soldier yelled a command that Eden didn't know, but both the Barnes siblings froze when it was called. Eden saw Kaz's eyes widen. She looked to Steve and he whispered something to her that seemed to calm her down a little. Bucky cleared his throat and adjusted his hat. He took a shaky breath and nodded to Eden, then to Steve.
"See you later, alligator" He said, chuckling a little at himself.
"In a while, crocodile," Eden said back, giving him one last look. The Rogers' watched as the Barnes' fell into line with their assigned groups. Eden wanted to go with them, or even better, have them stay back with her. But she knew better.
"There they go," Steve said after a while. Eden stayed silent. "Hey, uh, I may have found a way to get recruited." Steve mumbled; part of him wasn't even sure he wanted Eden to hear him.
"What? How?" Eden said, turning to her brother.
"Well, I sorta, applied at the fair, and the doctor said he would put me in a special troupe."
"I'm coming with you." Eden said, not even thinking about what she was saying. Steve's eyebrows furrowed.
"Eden you know girls can't-"
"I don't care." Eden said. She wasn't about to lose another person to the war while she just sat at home. "I'll find a way."
The bus seemed to fill with dread in an instant. Kaz stared out the window, unsure of what to think. They were really doing this. Being shipped off like cattle to a slaughterhouse. Kaz had no idea how she ended up here. How she ended up as a 19 year old being shipped out to a war she had no business being in. But there was no turning back now.
No one spoke a word. Every single one of them were just as scared, if not more scared, as Kaz and Bucky. There was no telling what could happen. They were silent as the bus came to a stop on the side of the road. The doors opened and before they were even fully open, one of the officers was yelling at them to get out.
"Alright men! You better listen up and listen good! We're going to get you all checked in. Line up single file. Do not attempt to run or you will be shot." Kaz's stomach dropped when she heard that. She wasn't planning on running, but the thought of making a wrong move resulting in being shot was enough to scare her to listen to everything her superiors said. Not a single man said a word or even breathed too loudly. They all just stood there, slowly shuffling to the line to go up and get their names checked.
" Step up! Let's go one at a time. Names!" The officer said. A man at the front of the line said his name and the officer started looking through his paperwork.
"Medical nurses, please follow me this way!" Everyone looked to one another, trying to get an idea for who it was. Kaz's heart dropped when she realized that, based on everyone's position, they were talking to her.
The tent was big, and surprisingly neat. Each bed was lined up perfectly, with the crisp linens pulled so tight you couldn't have slipped a pinky between the sheets and the mattress. The smell of antiseptic and iodine wafted around, nearly burning Kaz's nostrils. There was one lone table sitting in the middle of the room. A young man sat at the table, filling out forms.
"Name," The man said, not bothering to look up.
"Kaz Barnes." The man skimmed the list.
"Kaz Barnes," He repeated. "You'll be on the frontlines. You're in bed 5, you can leave your stuff there."
Frontlines. Kaz felt the blood drain from her face and the air leave her lungs. Frontlines. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She was going to be on the frontlines of the bloody war that was killing people by the thousands.
Kaz's hands shook as she reached for her stuff. She set the two bags down on the foot of the bed, trying to catch her breath.
Once she was settled, and had her uniform on, a bell rang. She looked around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, no threat of an attack seemed imminent. The young man at the table looked at her for a moment.
"That's the dinner bell," He said. Kaz nodded. She stood but didn't move for a moment.
"Sorry where do I go?" She asked, feeling morbidly embarrassed.
"Second tent on the left, it's pretty big, you can't miss it." She nodded again, giving him a small smile. "I expect you to be back here at 6:30 sharp."
Kaz tried to control her nerves as she left the tent. All those stories she had heard of the frontlines, of what was really going on during this awful war, came flooding back to her. Her head was spinning as she looked around at the hundreds of tents, a majority of them looking exactly like the one she had come from.
Following the man's directions, she walked into the second tent on the left. Sure enough, the place was packed with more than hundreds of soldiers sitting on the ground and at tables, eating their rations.
She wasn't necessarily hungry, especially after what the man had told her about her position. Still, she took a small tray with an odd colored sandwich on it that looked expired and a bottle of milk. Her eyes scanned the floor, surely Bucky was there somewhere.
He was just sitting in the very back corner, by himself, as he silently ate his meal. He didn't look when Kaz came up.
"Hey," She said, in a flat tone.
"Hey," Bucky said, giving a glance in her direction.
"Did you get your position?" She asked.
"Frontlines. You?"
"Me too," she said, feeling mixed about her brother being on the frontlines too. Bucky just nodded numbly. He was trying to keep a straight face, but honestly, he was scared to death. Bucky was a pretty good fighter, but no one could be prepared for what they were about to see. "Hey at least if we get blown up we get blown up together." Kaz tried to joke but failed miserably as the siblings realized that was a very real possibility.
Bucky chuckled anyway. Dark humor had always been a coping mechanism in their family, and it was working again now.
"At least they didn't separate us." Bucky said back. He looked down at the bland meal in front of him and suddenly lost his appetite.
"Do you want my sandwich? 'M not hungry," Bucky said, pushing his tray away from him.
"I was about to ask you the same thing. This looks awful," Kaz stifled a laugh.
"At least it's actual food. I was expecting just a piece of moldy bread," He said. He looked out around the room of soldiers, taking in the fact that most of them were just sitting there talking about what their assignment was going to be. Others sat, completely silent with solemn expressions on their faces. "Do they actually want us to go to war? I don't think I'm going to survive on a diet like this." He joked again.
"Right?" Kaz smiled. "What time is it?"
"6:20, why?" Bucky asked.
"I have to be back at 6:30 sharp apparently." she said. Bucky scoffed.
"Of course they would expect you to be on time. You're one of the only damnnurses here." Kaz nodded. He was right. In fact in the entire time she'd been at the camp, she hadn't seen one other nurse. Other than the young man who checked her in. It was odd that they would be assigning a 19 year old girl to go to the frontlines as a nurse. But then again, Bucky was a 23 year old kid who was being forced to go fight a war. Nothing could be done.
"You better get going then." Bucky said. Kaz nodded, glancing at her brother.
"Yeah," She said, standing up. "You sure you don't want my sandwich?"
"Yeah I think I'll pass this time," Bucky scrunched his face. "See you later kid."
"See ya," Kaz said. "Be smart out there. I expect you to come back to me in one piece, ok?"

Chapter 8. Stupid decisions
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Valentina Rivera (OC)
Word count: 940
Trigger Warning: injuries, broken ankle, hospital, talk of absent father, OC character sparring with Steve
Disclaimer: I don’t own any Marvel characters, only the Original characters are mine.
General Masterlist - Willow Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
1 year later since the Snap
What started as a fight lesson for the Rivera siblings ended up being a whole activity involving the majority of the women of the Rivera extended family, and of course, Miguel Rivera.
Rogers and Romanoff were impressed the first time they tested the siblings.
"Mom taught me so I could do the same with my sister” he explained “also, most of my uncles and aunts were in the army, so they taught us things too”
“Yeah, that is true. And my grandma taught us how to ensemble a rifle in less than a minute, she was a total badass back in her day” Val smiled with nostalgia “I miss that vieja loca”
Most of the cousins were resting or stretching, it has been a busy day, a year was enough for them to be good at fighting, but most of the ladies were really fast learners. Miguel had some intensity when he started to do something, he started to train every day until he hurt himself, making Valentina the rational one that time and make him train at least two days a week and rest the other days.
“She’s getting better, and… stronger? Did Steve stumble?” Miguel and Nat make a pause to watch the action in the other end of the training room
“That is a nice move, oh, the punch” the spectators hissed when her fist ended in Steve's shield and Natasha winced thinking of the amount of pain in Valentinas hand.
There was a tense silence while they were witnesses of the most ambitious fight that Val has ever done, on the other hand, their cousin Diana takes out the first aid kit bandages and her cousin Michelle runs to the kitchen for ice.
“Sweet yisus , se va a matar, voy a tener que recogerla en pedazos” Miguel was feeling anxious, and his emotion was getting stronger when he witnessed how his sister deflected in the air Steve’s shield with a leg kick.
The sound of the shield getting stuck in the wall was enough to make everyone stop everything, and they started to contain their breath, not knowing what could happen now.
Punches, leg kicks, deflecting the other attacks, both repeat the dance all over again, until Valentina can use her fox quickness to slip away, kick Steve in his back and later in his face with her knee.
“Lo hizo sangrar!” exclaimed Diana, covering her face un surprise
“Please please please, tell me this is it” Valentina supplicates, not moving from her defense pose “I can’t move, I think I broke my leg and something else that I didn’t know I have”
Miguel looks up to the ceiling, catching a glimpse of what it looked like a security camera.
“Cameras are still working?”
“I think so…” answered Natasha. The older sibling only nods and runs to assist his sister.
Steve's nose was bleeding, meaning that was a really well made kick or was strong enough, he cleans himself a little with the back of his hand, being a super soldier means healing faster, a bloody nose was just a little inconvenience.
“Helen!” Diana voice was strong, that was her boss voice “Llamale a tía Gloria y pregunta si está en el hospital. Y dile a Michelle que llame a tio Fer, que perdió la apuesta y que nos tiene que pagar”
“Seriously? I have a potential broken leg y ustedes huevones apostando para cuando pasaba esto?!” Val use Steve and Miguel as help for walk up to her backpack “I’m starting to hate all of you”
Steve drove them to the hospital, aunt Gloria was doing her shift, that helped them a lot.
Both men patiently drink a cup of coffee in the waiting room while Valentina was being checked by a doctor, the poor older sibling was feeling his muscles loose and the nervous tremors starting to stop.
“Something is bothering her, she only does stupid things when she is mad”
“So, she is always mad?”
“Kind of…” Miguel held his head low, the floor was pretty interesting to see when he spoke about ‘the subject’ “Thing is… My dad left us in April like seventeen years ago… And is just a few days left for April to start, which means that she is going to be fucking mad the first fifteen days of the month, she just blames herself”
“Why? It was someone else decision, not hers”
“Dad never loved her back, we even think that he never loved mom either. He is… or was… that kind of person that likes shiny things, he saw a shiny beautiful girl with emotional needs and just used that for his advantage, then he left with his second wife in Portugal, a 23 year old skinny beautiful girl, she was like a model… the last thing i knew was that he married his fifth wife, another young lady to mentally abuse. Mom died believing she wasn’t enough for him, and Val grew up believing she wasn’t perfect enough for having a father”
Both stayed in silence, there weren't enough words for them to describe their feelings.
Aunt Gloria arrived a few hours later, it wasn’t her job to tell them the news, but she was doing it anyway.
“The hand is fine, just needs rest and if possible no movement for at least two weeks. But she had a broken ankle for not using the proper protection gear for whatever the hell she was doing.” Miguel groans, throwing his head back “And honestly, coming from Valentina it has been a miracle that she spent an entire year with no accidents. Oh, and she needs surgery”
“Fuck…”

I've been wanting to introduce Aisha here for a while but considering that my OC introductions never really go well I kept procrastinating...well, I decided that I have all the right to talk about my babies here and my mental health and enjoyment should always be more important than notes, so I am gonna be who I am today and do what I like even if no one is there to read it, so here is Aisha's introduction, along with some backstory that I already wrote for her profile on TH.

Backstory
Aisha (Aka Hell’s Bane or 69676) is a very intelligent genetically modified human, she was sold to the organization Leviathan by her own parents, who had close ties to them, when she was only a few months old.
Leviathan is a secret european organization based in Scotland, they have an illegal and hidden laboratory in Portland, Oregon, USA, to where Aisha was sent.
Since then she has been used and modified by the organization, she was nothing more than a weapon in progress and her life was resumed to that for the first 20 years of her life, until the day she was able to escape, burning the laboratory down along with everyone in it, even the innocent ones.
Their project wasn’t completed yet, which means she is considered as an incomplete experiment. With the death of their leader and most important members, who were there when everything happened, the organization collapsed, only a few workers were left and most of them only wanted to go home as they were also victims.
Aisha went through a really hard time after that event, she felt lost and could barely communicate with people due to her lack of social skills, as a fast learner she was able to hunt for food and fend for herself, staying hidden at the Willamette national forest. Sometimes she would adventure into the city of Portland and try to interact, as time passed by Aisha finally learned some social skills.
It wouldn’t take long before she met her future first friends, they belonged to a travelling circus who was currently staying at the city, they were all extremely nice to her and made her feel welcome, some time later she had an idea that would change her life once again, she could use and control fire and a circus would be the perfect place for her to hide and go unnoticed, after all who would suspect she was actually creating and controlling the fire? She could always use a mask as well, no one would ever know who she was during her exhibitions. Maybe they would take her in and let her travel around with them?
Aisha started practicing a few tricks daily and once she finally felt ready, decided to show them what she was able to do and was successful in impressing them with her supposed talent, she got what she wanted, an invitation to join their circus and Aisha was totally ready for that wild trip!
Some months passed and she had learned so much about the world, finally feeling free and like herself for the first time, social skills weren’t a problem for her anymore, in fact, she found out she was quite the communicative type.
They had just arrived in New York, well, most precisely the suburbs, when Aisha found out about the Avengers, she was quite curious about them, mainly about the one named Tony Stark, she had this weird attraction to technology and couldn’t avoid her curiosity. Aisha got inspired and started to create her own cape and mask so she could hide her identity, tracking their activity the best way she could at the moment, she was able to help them whenever she saw they needed it really bad, Aisha had no fight skills but she surely could impress with her fire and wings, so she was quite useful to distract their opponents when everything seemed to be lost for the Avengers.
Eventually she never showed her face, but they could see her blue eyes through the mask, she became a mystery to them and she would always get away before they could even talk to her, until the day things were way more serious than she could’ve imagined and Aisha was knocked out while trying to helplessly help Sam and Natasha who were currently fighting alone, some minutes later Tony Stark showed up and they were able to overcome the situation, but Aisha was still out, they captured her and took her to the tower where she eventually woke up some time later, she had no idea where she was and started to freak out when she noticed she was literally locked inside that room, the Avengers couldn’t risk any danger.
Tony Stark couldn’t help himself, his curiosity was screaming, he needed to know more about what she was and why she helped them several times, Stark studied her for a few days, Aisha wasn’t happy, she didn’t fight for her freedom only to see it being taken away from her again, but she wasn’t dumb, she knew she couldn’t get away the way she did at the laboratory, the room was fireproof and she didn’t really want to hurt any of them either, so she allowed Tony to keep going with his studies and meanwhile they got to know each other a bit better, but what really caught his attention was her intelligence and apparent interest, maybe even passion, for technology and eventually they realized that keeping her locked in a room wasn’t necessary and was making her miserable, she wasn’t a threat at all and not having any stimulation was driving her intelligent mind crazy.
Aisha didn’t think twice before running away, her friends were probably very worried and looking for her and she needed to let them know what has happened and where she had been and so she spent some more time with them while they stayed at New York, however, on the last day at the city, Aisha started to feel very unsure if she really belonged there, she couldn’t even tell them who she really was, how would they understand? How would they take the news once they realize she has no talent and the fire was created by herself all this time? She loved them, they were her family, but did she really belong with them? She wanted to do great things, she wanted to learn a bit of everything and dedicate her life to what she truly loved: Technology.
She would never be able to do that with them, she would just perform fire tricks for the rest of her life, Aisha knew, deep down, that she didn’t belong and so, she decided to part with them and stay at the tower where she knew she was also welcome.
With all the technology on her side, Aisha decided to start her own research and projects, catching Tony’s attention once again who later offered her a place at his laboratory as his apprentice, she was happy to get such privilege and worked hard to impress him and he wasn’t disappointed and later she became an official S.H.I.E.L.D adviser.
Aisha started to be successful with her work and became really popular for her ideas and creations, getting the spotlight on several magazines and scientific journals, little did she know such popularity would turn into a big problem for her.
The spotlight made Hydra notice Aisha and lately find out about who and what she really was, targeting her, especially after Aisha was able to get into their database later on, they wanted her, she would be way more useful to them alive than dead and they knew exactly how to make her behave but they also knew it wouldn’t be easy to fool her, some force would certainly be needed, they also planned to finish what Leviathan had started.
Unfortunately for Hydra, Aisha was no idiot and after successfully escaping from their first try she had started to think of a plan just in case they’d be successful someday, she had read enough articles to know they weren’t gonna stop coming for her and by the time they were finally able to capture her she already had traced one, it wasn’t a easy one, Aisha knew she would need to sacrifice a lot for it and that they wouldn’t go easy on her, she had studied Hydra so well lately that she was pretty aware of how things would work there, she was terrified but she would not give up, she would fool and take advantage of them and they wouldn’t even realize that!
And Aisha did exactly that, she made them believe she was under their control while she gathered information and learned how to fight, they surely weren’t soft with her, but Aisha was used to the pain and she knew it was for a greater good, however, slowly she started to realize she would probably carry a few physical and psychological scars with her from her experience with Hydra.
Tony was the only one who she told about her plans and that also brought him some trouble with the Avengers, she had asked him to not look for her in case she was successfully but how would Tony make sure the rest of them wouldn’t try to rescue her? After all not rescuing her sounded extremely absurd to them.
Okay, this is enough spoiler for now, her story is REALLY long. :'D
Trivia
. Aisha has a very intelligent mind and is very prone to boredoom and frustration, as such, she is always in need of something to keep her stimulated. . Before running away from the Leviathan laboratory, she was learning a few useful languages so she could do her job properly, she learned german and russian with them. . Aisha has a very sassy and sarcastic nature and while some find it amusing, others may find it annoying, her nickname at the tower is actually "sassy pants" because of that. . She has black wings on her back, they come out through a big cavity that she has on her back, on both sides, that goes from the shoulder to her waist, her wings are extremely sensitive and she usually doesn't allow people to touch them. . Aisha is a feminist and when she finally gets famous and rich, she decides to build a safe place for women who are victims of domestic violence, she has helped many people to rebuild their lives, she loves people and wants them all to have the same chance she once had to rebuild hers.
Both artworks on here were made on Picrew. (1,2)

Myllie's List of All Of her Blogs. Yes there's a lot. No, I don't care.
@acarnivalofrust ; semi active, trying to revive. Illusionist OC , multifandom - not easy to ship with, but he is a protective son of a bitch if he likes you enough.
@astrangemagic ; semi active , Stephen Strange of the MCU that is heavily headcanon based, multifandom friendly but is single ship.
@burymeinprettylies ; currently mid-revamp, original character multi with various types such as supernaturals, humans, metas, etc. It's been quiet on that front, but I'm slowly trying to breathe life back into it.
@evervinter ; original character based on different and original concepts of The Snow Queen. She's a quiet one right now but when it gets cold out she's awake and annoying. Currently settled into a BG3 universe, but she has many verses including Marvel, TVD, and more.
@herofabled ; video game idiots. I mean characters, semi-active ? Trying to be more active anyway give or take. We have BG3 ( gale, karlach ) , we have Dragon Age ( dorian, fenris, varric , etc ) , Mass Effect ( Garrus, Kaidan... ) and even Cyberpunk 2077 ( because who doesn't want pixel Keanu in their head..?)
@kepnerisms ; just getting this one started for April Kepner, formerly of Grey's Anatomy but now written as an OC for other fandoms such as Marvel, Hawaii 5 0, One Chicago, etc. Because Grey's didn't deserve my baby girl.
@starkissedscars ; oc canon characters. Because I love making ocs for fandoms so much, I decided to give them their own space. Over there we have some One Chicago OCs, got OBX from randoms to siblings for John B , Topper, and JJ's mama. Working on some other Ocs for fandoms I'm trying to revive. Also got some TSITP ocs over there too..
@storminmyveins ; you are here. I somehow convinced you I was cool, how'd I do that ?
@walkingthroughfire ; marvel multimuse based on the MC with *hints* of comic influence, but mostly headcanon based. Canon characters such as Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Clint Barton, Thor and more along with marvel based OCs. Because my OC building started with the old x-men cartoon.

Rectify | Bucky Barnes
Tumblr media
Part 23/37 | Part Twenty Two, Part Twenty Four
Summary: I've lived every day for the past five years looking over my shoulder. I knew they'd come for me, it was inevitable. I was foolish to think I could outrun my past. It's followed me everywhere I go, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Never would I have anticipated that the shadows would lead me to the light.
Bucky Barnes x OC
Series Warnings: Discussion of human trafficking, alcohol consumption, graphic depictions of violence, sexual content, discussion of suicidal thoughts.
a/n: Hi everyone, thank you for checking this out, I appreciate any and all support! This series is also posted on Ao3 and Wattpad if you prefer those formats/platforms! This is a completed series, and it's going to take some time for me to transfer it to Tumblr, so please bear with me!
"Once this is over with, and we get this stuff out of my head I want to be done. I want to be done with Shield, Hydra, all of it. I'm tired of being on the run, fighting for someone, or being locked up somewhere."
Steam dissipates into the air from my cup of hot coffee sitting on the counter. The building is quiet this morning, I bet many of them overdid it last night. I smile to myself as I recall last night. It definitely did not go as planned but in the best way possible. Bucky and I ended the night by sitting together outside and enjoying each other's company. He had his arm around my waist as I leaned into him while the party lived on inside.
People ended up leaving around three in the morning, Thor ended up staying the night and I never did see Natasha show up. I want to ask her about the siblings, and if it might be possible that I can see them, study them, and try to understand what happened. If I can understand them and their abilities, perhaps it can provide insight to the scepter's gem. If Bruce was able to convince Tony to hold off creating the Ultron protocol things would be even better.
The elevator ding rips me from my thoughts, and to my relief Bruce walks out. He looks less hungover than I thought he would be. I take a sip of my coffee as he makes a cup as well.
"I didn't even see you last night." I say quietly. He takes a drink and nods his head,
"I was there, I didn't show up until later though." He says. I don't want to be obnoxious and ask about Tony but it's been on my mind for the past two days. Maybe he'll bring it up himself.
"I didn't know Thor was going to be there, the ladies all loved him." I laugh a little as I remember the women pining for a second of his attention.
"They always do." Bruce states as he leans against the counter.
"I didn't see Natasha though, Steve said she was going to be there." I say, taking another sip.
"Oh, yeah Natasha was here, she showed up later as well." I sense an undertone to the statement but I don't want to pry about things that aren't my business.
"I need to talk to her before she leaves, I think it would be a good idea to study the siblings." I say, hoping this prompts the larger conversation.
"That's not a bad idea. You know, Tony kind of backed down from wanting to rush into the Ultron protocol. He agreed to take some more time to study and understand what we were working with." I nod my head, relieved.
"I don't understand him." I say with a sigh. He ended up taking my side but wouldn't budge while I was there offering the ideas.
"I don't get it either." Bruce says. I get off the stool and go sit on the couch that's in front of the faux fireplace. The sunrise is warm and the birds are singing beautifully outside. The elevator dings again, and Natasha walks out. She doesn't notice me at first and greets Bruce. The two of them hug each other and I squint my eyes. There's definitely something going on between them.
Natasha turns and sees me on the couch, her eyes widening a little before she smirks. She walks over and sits next to me on the couch. I place my empty cup on the glass table, where Thor's hammer was last night.
"I didn't even know you were here, I didn't see you last night." I smile at her, not wanting her to feel weird about what I saw. I don't know her very well but I think she's the type to hide her feelings and I don't want there to be any tension. As we start talking, Bruce walks out of the room, probably to go to the lab.
"Yeah, I came in later. I saw you and Barnes outside together when I came in." I almost choke on air but want to play it cool, I don't know how much she saw and I'm not going to open up about something she may not have even seen.
"Yeah we wanted to get out of there, the crowd was a little overwhelming." I say, not telling a complete lie. She pushes some hair out of her face, and leans in closer,
"I'm not going to tell anyone, that's between you two." Shock fills me, she saw enough to know what's going on. I'm thankful for her discretion, I'm not even sure how I want to approach telling people yet, especially Steve.
"Thank you." I say and she nods. I think we're in an unspoken mutual agreement.
"I've missed being here, the other compound isn't nearly as relaxed." She says, changing the subject.
"I want to ask you a question about the compound actually." I say. She raises an eyebrow, waiting for me to ask,
"So, based on what we've found so far I think there's a good chance the scepter gave the siblings their powers. I was wondering if it's possible for me to go to the compound to study them and try to understand how the scepter works and what it's capable of." I say hopefully. I watch intently as she thinks for a few moments.
"I think we can arrange that. I assume Barnes will come to?" She clarifies and I nod my head.
"Yeah, technically I'm still tasked with watching over him." I say to justify my reasoning. Though I'm not wrong, it's just not the entire truth anymore. And honestly I'm not sure we could be separated from each other just yet, I would constantly worry about how he's doing and if anything happened.
"Let me ask Fury." She says and pulls out a phone from her back pocket. She types quickly and sends the message.
"What are they like?" I want to know as much as possible about the siblings before I even get there to have a head start. She scrunches her eyebrows together in thought,
"He's incredibly fast, if he ran by your face at full speed you'd never see him. She has telekinetic powers, she can move just about anything with her mind. They're twins actually. They haven't been very cooperative with anyone so far." She says. It sounds like a challenge, and if this challenge means I'm closer to understanding the gem then I'll gladly accept it.
If Fury doesn't allow me to go, then I'm willing to take more drastic measures to find the information needed. There just so happens to be an empty Hydra base where the twins were given their abilities, there's bound to be something useful, even if it isn't a full notebook of notes. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, the Sokovian base is one of the last places on Earth I would want to be.
"It's so fascinating. The gem is unlike anything we've ever seen before. It's very complex and to be honest I'm not sure how it works in its entirety. But, I think there's a way I can use it to help Bucky and undo the Winter Soldier programming." I explain to her. I don't want to get into the whole Tony situation with her because the last thing I need is another reason for Tony to dislike me.
"I'm not real good with science, but I trust you know what you're doing. I'll get back to you about what Fury says." She stands from the couch and walks out. There's hope for this all panning out, as long as Tony can resist creating the protocol.
I hope I'm not wasting time by pursuing the wrong avenue. If I'm allowed to go see the twins, I need some fruitful answers, I can't afford a dead end. My mission has quickly evolved from just helping Bucky, to trying to also prevent Tony from making a grave mistake, and figuring out alien technology. This is not what I envisioned happening when I first fled to the Shield compound seeking asylum. I thought I was finally free but here I am all these years later. This time, however, I know I'm doing the right thing.
The elevator dings again, this time Bucky walks in. I was hoping he'd be here soon because I still need to tell him about the plan to see the twins. He smiles as he sits down beside of me, resting his hand on my thigh. He places a kiss on my forehead,
"Good morning." He says with his usual raspy morning voice.
"Good morning, Buck." I say, leaning my head on his shoulder. I hate to start our morning with talking about serious issues, but I'd rather do it now when I know we're alone.
"You're up quite early." He says and I nod, sitting up and facing him.
"Bucky, there are a few things I need to talk to you about." I say and he nods with worry on his face.
"If this is about last night-"
"It's not, trust me. I don't regret it." I cut him off, not wanting him to think for a second that I regretted what happened last night. If anything, it was long overdue.
"Okay, then what's going on?" He asks, now clearly confused.
"Well, Tony is trying to use the scepter to create what he calls the Ultron protocol, it's supposed to be a peacekeeping initiative but he's going about it the wrong way. He's trying to put the protocol into the gem's framework. I think it's possible that if he does that, there's a chance the framework could evolve, it's highly complex. The evolution could be detrimental, we don't know enough about it yet. Bruce has held him off and will continue to do so for as long as he can. In the meantime, I've asked Natasha if we could go see the twins who were likely granted powers from the scepter, I think there's something to be learned from them." I lay it all out for him, sparing no detail. Bucky is quiet as he processes what I'm saying and rubs a hand over his chin.
"I trust you. If you think this is the right move, I'll go with you." He says. I nod my head, happy he's on board with my plan.
"But, if Tony decides to go forward with creating Ultron and things go sideways, I have a backup plan. We're going to be okay either way, I want you to know that." I say, not going into what my backup plan is. He nods his head.
"A plan is never complete without a backup." Bucky doesn't push what it is. I know he trusts me to make the right decision, and I'm confident that I am.
"Are we going to tell Steve?" I ask, changing the subject. Bucky sighs,
"We have to, I just don't know how yet."
"After the way he acted when he got us from the bunker, I don't think he's going to take it lightly." I say, sadly. I wish it wasn't like this, but for some reason Steve has made is abundantly clear that he's against Bucky and I being together.
"He'll be okay. Give me some time to talk to him." Bucky pats my thigh.
It feels like there's so much going on at once, it's starting to take a toll on me. I always feel stressed out about what might happen and I feel as if I've started to neglect some of the needed therapy Bucky needs for recovering his mind. I've been so focused on undoing the programming that I've let it slip through the cracks. It's like I've failed him again.
After he remembered killing Tony's parents I should've doubled down on therapy, and instead I got sidetracked by the scepter. I have to put Bucky first, his needs come before anything else. Plus, I can do it all. I can dedicate time to talk to Bucky about his mental state and I can dedicate time to creating the cure for the programming. Sure, it'll mean long days and even longer nights but if I can help him it will all be worth it in the end.
"Bucky, how have you been lately? I've been spending all my time in the lab and I haven't really been able to talk to you in a while." I say softly, not wanting to come off as being pushy.
"Well, the nightmares are still there. Some nights are better than others. I can see their faces. I'm still remembering things here and there, they're mainly small things though. The nights you're in the lab, Steve usually stays with me for a while, it helps some." He says and I nod. I wish he would've told me about the nightmares, I would have dropped everything to be there for him.
"Do you find that you have less nightmares when people are around than when you're alone?" I ask.
"They still happen, I just find it easier to deal with when someone is around." I nod my head,
"Okay, I'll be with you then. Bucky, you know I'm here for you no matter what. Please come to me if there's something bothering you. I will never be too busy for you, I promise you that." I place my hand atop of his that's resting on my leg.
"Once this is over with, and we get this stuff out of my head I want to be done. I want to be done with Shield, Hydra, all of it. I'm tired of being on the run, fighting for someone, or being locked up somewhere." He says, meeting my eyes.
"I promise once we get that stuff out of your head for good, we'll be done with it all." I say, though a part of me thinks that no matter how hard we try we'll always somehow be a part of it.
I hope I'm wrong, and that there is a way out of this. If we can get off the grid, become untraceable, then maybe we have a chance of leaving this lifestyle behind. I've never lived a lifestyle that didn't involve being on the run or being handed a task but I can imagine life would be a lot more peaceful. Maybe we'll be able to strike a deal with Shield of some sort and be able to live semi-normally.
Natasha walks back into the room, phone in hand. I look at her, waiting for her to say whether Fury is going to let us come or not. She gives a small nod and says,
"Pack your bags, you two are coming with me." Bucky and I get up from our spots and waste no time preparing to leave. I'll let Bucky tell Steve what's going on, and it'll be up to him if he wants to join us or not. A part of me hopes Steve stays, he would be able to give updates on what Tony is doing.
I collect my things and put on my Shield uniform once more, leaving behind the clothes Tony provided since they aren't mine to take. I put the flash drives in my pocket and carry the book with me, folded papers inside the front cover.
I close the door behind me and join Bucky outside of Steve's door. He knocks a few times before Steve answers, obviously just out of bed. He looks between the two of us and furrows his eyebrows.
"What's going on?" He questions. Steve rubs the sleep from his eyes.
"We're going to the compound Fury is at. Adalyn thinks it's a good idea to study the siblings who have the special powers." Bucky says and Steve looks to me. I nod my head, confirming what Bucky said.
"Yeah, I think they can give some important answers about how they got their powers and give more information if the scepter was involved. You can come if you want, and if you stay I'd like to ask that you give me updates about what Tony is doing." I say, not delving into the specifics.
"Does Tony need to be supervised?" He asks, quickly becoming skeptical.
"Well, Bruce is already keeping an eye on him so it's not entirely necessary." I say, not wanting to lie just to get Steve to stay here for my own benefit.
"I'll stay here for a few days and depending on how things go I might join you guys." Steve says and I nod. I'm thankful he's going to stay.
"Okay, thank you Steve. If you notice Bruce say anything about an Ultron protocol please let me know. Bruce can catch you up to speed, just let him know you've talked to me about it." I say, not having the time to explain everything to him. He simply nods and says a final goodbye to Bucky.
"Take good care of him." Steve sincerely says to me.
"Of course." I say, feeling slightly guilty we're keeping Steve in the dark about us for now. We'll eventually tell him. I just don't think now it the best time to get into it.
Bucky and I go to the main level and join Natasha in the plane. She's in the pilot's seat getting things ready for takeoff. Bucky and I take the two other seats in the small plane, our knees up against each other.
I'm excited to see the twins and their powers in real life. I'm nervous that they've been uncooperative, but have faith I can get them to work with me. If I take the same approach I did with Bucky hopefully things work out well.

MCU: Logan Barnes-Stark - CATFA
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x (sibling) OC, Steve Rogers x (bestie) OC
Summary: The beginning of Logan's very long and very complicated life story.
Warnings: mentions of death, absent parents, fighting, curse words, abandonment, there is so much crying in this blurb, guns, needles, there's a bar scene
Word Count: 9877
“I’ll be back in a little while.” Steve pulled his jacket off the hanger by the door.
“Where’re you going?” I looked up from my book.
“Try to enlist again.” He opened the door, already halfway out.
I jumped up, tossing the book aside as I grabbed his arm. “You can’t! They’ll never let you, Steve.” I was young, but I knew enough about Steve’s health issues to know it was a lost cause.
He shook his thin arm loose. “I have to try. I’ll be back soon, Logan. Don’t let anyone in.”
I sighed. “Fine. Be careful.”
************************************************************************
"War continues to ravage Europe. But help is on the way.” Patriotic music blared. “Every able-bodied young man is lining up to serve his country. Even little Timmy is doing his part collecting scrap metal.” The scene cut to a little blond boy throwing metal around.
I glanced over at Steve, who seemed to be thoroughly invested in what we were seeing. I sighed. I knew what was going on, I knew it was serious. I just wanted Bucky to stay safe. He had enlisted. He was the only blood brother I had. I would still have Steve, but I didn’t want to lose Bucky.
“Who cares? Play the movie already!” A man shouted from a row ahead of us.
I felt Steve tense next to me. “Hey, you wanna show some respect?” He called out.
“Meanwhile overseas, our brave boys are showing the Axis powers that the price of freedom is never too high.”
“Let’s go, get on with it!” The same man.
I felt the tensions shift. “Steve, don’t.”
“Hey, you wanna shut up?” Steve was loud this time.
The guy stood up, blocking the screen. I sighed, knowing Steve was in for it. He was small and fragile. I loved him, but he could never hold a fight on his own. I looked over at him, and he seemed deflated.
“...face the threat no matter the size.” I heard the screen.
I got to my feet and sprinted out of the theater and across the street. I found the payphone and pulled out a few coins and called the apartment. Bucky would be home by now.
“Hello?”
“Buck, it’s me! Steve and I are at the movies, you gotta come quick!” I watched as the front doors swung open and the guy from inside dragged Steve into the side alley.
“Lo? What’s wrong?” His voice grew stern.
“They’re gonna beat Steve up again. Please help. He’s not gonna make this one.” I whined, toes tapping as I became frantic.
“I’ll be right there. Just stay calm and stay out of the way. Do you hear me?”
“Buck-”
“No! Logan, you aren’t allowed to get hurt. Now wait for me there. I’ll see you soon.” He scoffed.
“Love you.” I mumbled, but the only response was a dial tone.
I hung the phone up and groaned. I would be no help to Steve. Bucky was right. I should stay put. Bucky was usually right. I had an internal battle for a little bit before crossing the street. I crept into the alleyway slowly, hearing grunts and noises like metal crashing. I almost rounded the corner to where Steve was getting beat up.
“You just don’t know when to give up, do ya?” I heard the guy.
“I can do this all day.” I heard Steve’s wheezing.
I peeked my head around the corner to see him take a fist to the face.
I felt a hand come down on my shoulder and yank me backward. I jumped and wheeled around, only to see my older brother dressed in his uniform with an eyebrow arched.
“Buck. That was fast.”
“We don’t live far. Steve’s back there?” He looked disappointed.
I lowered my head and nodded. He rounded the corner and pulled the guy off. “Hey! Pick on someone your own size.”
I rushed around them to help Steve up, watching as Bucky punched the guy in the face, holding a paper in the other hand. I helped Steve steady himself as Bucky came back around.
“Sometimes I think you like getting punched.” Bucky teased.
“I had him on the ropes.” Steve groaned.
I pointed to a piece of paper on the floor in the middle of the three of us.
“How many times is this?” He picked it up. “Oh, you’re from Paramus now? You know it’s illegal to lie on the enlistment form. And seriously, Jersey?” He held his hand out for me and I took it, shuffling over to his side and avoiding eye contact with Steve as he eyed Bucky’s uniform.
“You got your orders?”
My brother nodded. “The 107th.”
“Logan, you knew, didn’t you?” Steve sought my eyes.
I nodded. “Yeah I knew.” My nostrils started to burn as my eyes watered up.
“She just can’t keep her sticky fingers out of places they don’t belong. Isn’t that right?” Bucky said it as a joke.
“When do you-”
Bucky cut Steve off. “Sergeant James Barnes, shipping out to England first thing tomorrow.”
We all paused. I didn’t know that part. My throat threatened to close off as I took my hand back from Bucky’s, folding myself into a hug.
“I should be going.” Steve broke the silence, brushing the dust off his hands.
I felt Bucky’s eyes on me and I looked the other way, to the ground. I was thirteen and already an orphan, unwanted by my mother. I loved Steve, but Bucky was my brother. I needed him.
“I’ve gotta get you cleaned up. Logan, you’re coming with us.”
“Where’re we going?” Steve asked.
I trailed between them like a lost puppy. Bucky handed him the newspaper. “The future.”
************************************************************************
“I don’t know what the problem is. You’re about to be the last eligible man in New York. You know there’s three and a half million women here?” Bucky scoffed at Steve as we walked.
I rolled my eyes. Bucky always meant well but sometimes he annoyed me.
“Well I’d settle for just one.” Steve shrugged.
“Good thing I took care of that.” Bucky grinned.
I looked up to see him wave, and across the crowd, two girls waving back, one even shouting out his name. Steve asked my brother something, but I was too out of it to listen in. This was Bucky’s last night. He could die out there. He might never see us again after tonight, might never see me again after tonight, his last living family member. And instead of spending it with me and Steve, he dragged me along as a 5th wheel to their surprise double date. What a scam.
************************************************************************
“Oh my god! It’s starting!” The girl squealed, tugging Bucky to follow her.
Steve and I trailed behind awkwardly. His date was glued to her friend’s hip, and she wasn’t giving Steve the time of day.
“Ladies and gentlemen! Mr. Howard Stark!”
The crowd erupted into cheers, and Steve and I eyed each other. Stark was a genius, and he was sort of charming, but there was no way he could hack a flying car, which is what was promised for tonight. Steve tilted the bag of popcorn my way, and I gladly popped a few in my mouth, watching as Stark kissed the lead dancing girl and took the microphone.
“Ladies and gentlemen!”
I ignored the rest, uninterested by technical talk. Steve offered popcorn to his date, who only turned to him with a face of disgust. He looked at me, confused. I shrugged with a sigh. Some girls were just like that.
“Your automobile won’t even have to touch the ground at all.” Stark spoke as the girls took the tires off the car.
We watched as he turned a few dials and then hit a button, lifting the car to hover above the ground.
“Holy cow.” Bucky sighed.
The car short circuited, and it crashed to the ground. The girls flinched, both backing themselves into Bucky’s hold. He looked back at me and, upon seeing my clearly disgruntled expression, winked.
“Now, I did say a few years, didn’t I?” Stark laughed.
I checked my pockets for the key to our apartment. I couldn’t find it, so I slipped a hand into Bucky’s pocket and took his. He was so wrapped up in the attention of the girls that he didn’t notice. I turned to Steve.
“I’m gonna head home.” I whispered.
“Why?” His face showed concern.
I shrugged. “I don’t like feeling like a fifth wheel on my brother’s love triangle date.”
He nodded. “You want me to walk you home? I think I’m gonna head out too.”
I looked over my shoulder to see what his sight was trained on. It was an Uncle Sam poster on a light pole. I sighed.
“Again?” I turned back to Steve.
He nodded. “Gonna try one last time.”
“Can I come with you?” We snuck away from Bucky and the girls.
Steve shook his head. “No, I’ll take you home and then double back. It’s dangerous for a girl out there.”
I looked at him and rolled my eyes. He sighed.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“I know, I know.”
“Guys!” I heard Bucky as he grabbed my shoulder. “Come on, you’re kinda missing the point of a night out. The girls wanna go dancing.”
I feigned a stomachache, grabbing at my stomach and wincing, scrunching up my nose as I stumbled a bit.
“I don’t feel so good, Buck. Steve was just gonna walk me home.”
Bucky sighed, and put a hand up to my forehead. He pulled it away and raised an eyebrow at me. I dropped the act and sighed, rolling my eyes.
“Fine. I just don’t wanna keep third wheeling you and your girlfriends.”
“My girlfriends? Come on, Lo!” Bucky grew agitated.
“No, you come on!” I caught a glance from Steve and lowered my voice to a whisper. “You could die out there, and this is how you wanna spend your last night out?” I looked up at Bucky with a sigh, letting my shoulders fall. “You’re the only family I’ve got left. Sorry if this isn’t ideal for me.” I patted his arm and brushed past him, head down. “I’ll see you at home, Buck.”
“Logan.” He tried to catch my arm, but I squirmed away and kept walking, biting back tears.
************************************************************************
“I’m in!” Steve burst through the door.
“What?” I mumbled, sitting up on the couch.
“I’m in! They let me enlist!”
I laughed. “Nice joke, but Bucky’s not home yet.”
Steve pushed my legs off the couch and sat next to me. “It’s not a joke, Logan. They let me enlist. For real.” He shoved the papers into my hand.
I rubbed my eyes before looking over them. I spotted the ‘1A’ stamp in the corner and dropped the papers, looking up at Steve with big eyes. He grinned.
“Wait, so… you’re leaving too?” I didn’t mean to sound selfish, because I knew this was what Steve wanted more than anything in the world, but if Bucky was gone, Steve was the only one left. And if they both left? I would be a goner in this city.
He nodded, smile dropping. “I’m sorry, Lo. I didn’t realize what this would mean for you.”
I only shook my head, forcing a smile back at him. “It’s okay. This is your dream. Remember?”
He smiled again, nodding. “Yeah, it is. I’ll write you every day, yeah?”
I nodded, pulling him into a hug. I held back the tears that were stinging at my eyes. This was what he wanted. This was it. The only people I had were going to be gone. And I had to accept it.
************************************************************************
I hadn’t seen Bucky on the morning he left. I had woken up to a note next to a still-warm cup of coffee.
Hey Lo. Didn’t wanna wake you, know you had a rough night last night. I’ll write when I can. I’ll be safe. I promise. Please be careful. Don’t go out unless you have to. Regina knows that I’m leaving, so don’t worry about rent or anything, just try to be mindful of the electricity and the water. There’s a stash of money in my bedroom drawer for food. I love you.
See you soon,
Bucky
Regina was our landlord, and I was beyond grateful that she wouldn’t charge me rent. She liked us, mostly because it was just the two of us and sometimes Steve, and we were quiet. Bucky could fix whatever went wrong in the apartment, and if Regina asked, I could help paint whatever needed painting. She had checked up on me multiple times over the last three weeks that Bucky had been gone. She cooked me meals and brought them to me. She even joked about getting me a puppy, despite the no pets rule in the apartment building. She took care of me, and it made me feel a bit better about both the boys being gone. Steve had also held up his promise. He wrote a letter every day, telling me about training and how harsh everybody was, and an agent named Peggy Carter. He seemed to like her.
Today, they were going to inject him with a serum to make him stronger. It sounded sketchy to me, but who was I to crush his hopes? He had also said that Agent Carter had agreed to let me attend the injection and testing. They would come by today around noon to pick me up. He asked me to not mention it to Bucky, and I had agreed, reluctant to tell him that Bucky hadn’t written much. I had gotten a few letters, but they weren’t anything like Steve’s were, and Bucky didn’t tell me much. He probably thought it would protect me, but it hurt more than anything in the world. He wrote so little that at times I thought he could be gone.
I pulled myself from my thoughts and checked the clock. They would be by in a few minutes. I went to get changed, pulling on my nicest pair of slacks with a white blouse tucked into it. I slipped my shoes on and then went into Bucky’s room, stepping softly so his floorboards wouldn’t creak.
I wasn’t sure why I was still trying to tip-toe. I was allowed in Bucky’s room, and I spent more time there than in my own room. I ended up sleeping in his bed a lot of the time, even more now that he was gone. I raided his closet for the good leather jacket, the one with a few creases and one scratch down the back that I had caused a few years back.
“Logan?” There was a knock on the door, which then swung open.
“In Bucky’s room!” I called back, figuring it was Regina.
“Hey!”
I turned and saw Steve. I squealed and bolted to him, jumping to hug him. He hugged back, laughing as he stumbled backward.
“I’ve missed you.” I whispered, closing my eyes.
“I know.” He laughed. “I’ve missed you too.”
I stepped back and composed myself, smoothing out my blouse before pulling on Bucky’s jacket, sniffling.
“Logan, this is Agent Carter. Agent Carter, this is Logan.” Steve introduced me to the brown haired woman who was taller than us both.
“Hi.” I held a hand out, smiling widely.
“You can just call me Peggy.” She grinned at me, her white teeth peeking out between her red lined lips.
“It’s nice to meet you, Peggy.” I giggled, nervous.
I hadn’t grown up around other girls, much less women of authority, and never anyone British. My whole life, it was Bucky and Steve, and play-fights and being tossed over shoulders onto the floor.
“You too. We should get going.” She checked her watch. “Not much time to spare.” She smiled politely.
I nodded, pocketing the house key before looking over at Steve, breaking into a huge smile once more. Peggy walked out first, and Steve followed. I went after them, closing the door behind myself as I reached for Steve's hand.
************************************************************************
“I know this neighborhood.” Steve spoke from behind me. “I got beat up in that alley.” He pointed through the window. “And that parking lot. And behind that diner.”
I stifled a chuckle, trying not to disturb the army man who sat next to me, driving the car. I peeked back at Peggy, who was smiling faintly.
“Did you have something against running away?” She asked.
Steve shook his head. “If you start to run, they’ll never let you stop. You stand up, push back… can’t say no forever, right?”
“I know a little of what that’s like. To have every door shut in your face.”
“I guess I just don’t know why you’d wanna join the army.” Steve hesitated. “You’re a beautiful dame.”
I froze and my eyes went wide. Why on Earth would he call her a dame?
“Or a bea- a woman.” Steve stumbled to correct himself. “An agent, not a dame. You are beautiful, but…”
Peggy must’ve been glaring at him, because he began to stumble again.
“You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you?”
Steve snorted and I slumped my shoulders, relieved.
“I think this is the longest conversation I’ve had with one. Well, I’m not exactly sure if Logan counts.”
I smiled.
“Women aren’t exactly lining up to dance with a guy they might step on.” Steve explained.
“You must’ve danced.” Peggy spoke softly.
“Well, asking a woman to dance is usually so terrifying. And the past few years, just… didn’t seem to matter that much. Figured I’d wait.”
“For what?”
“The right partner.”
I glanced over my shoulder to see Peggy with a smile on her painted lips. The rest of the ride was silent, and the car pulled over in front of an antique shop. Steve stepped out first, opening my door and helping me out of the car.
“This way.” Peggy led us through the doors.
“What are we doing here?” Steve pulled on his cap.
“Just follow me.”
Steve looked at me. I shrugged and stepped in behind Peggy.
“Wonderful weather this morning. Isn’t it?” An old woman stepped into view, smiling.
“Yes, but I always carry an umbrella.” Peggy smiled.
The woman walked behind the counter without a word, and Peggy led us through a set of curtains hung up in a doorway. We stood in front of a bookshelf, which swung open, revealing a hospital-like hallway, with men in lab coats walking around. We followed Peggy down the hallway and passed a bunch of military police. We walked through a set of doors, into a lab.
Everyone below looked up, silenced. There were a few nurses and doctors, and a capsule looking contraption was in the middle of the room, surrounded by control boards with every type of button imaginable. Steve and I looked around in awe, before turning to Peggy. She let out a breath and led us down the stairs, into the main part of the lab.
“Good morning.” A man in a lab coat shook Steve’s hand.
A camera flashed, and Steve flinched. The man in the coat turned to the photographer, disappointment on his face. “Please, not now.” He looked at me. “You must be Logan Barnes. I’m Dr. Erskine.”
I accepted his outstretched hand and shook it, smiling. “Nice to meet you.”
Steve looked at the capsule, eyes wide.
“You ready?” Dr. Erskine looked to Steve, who nodded hesitantly. “Good. Take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat.”
Steve looked at Peggy and I awkwardly, and we both turned away as he undressed. He handed me his clothes, and looked at me, nervous. I forced a smile.
“You’ll be okay. Promise.”
He nodded at me and stepped into the machine, lying on his back. Dr. Erskine stepped forward and began to talk to him.
“Mr. Stark? How are your levels?”
Steve squirmed to look at me, and his eyes must’ve been as wide as mine. Stark was helping?
“Levels at one hundred percent.” Stark brushed past me and to Steve’s side. “We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we are ready. As we’ll ever be.”
“Agent Carter, Miss Barnes, don’t you think you’d be more comfortable in the booth?” Dr. Erskine pointed up.
“Oh yes.” Peggy smiled and led us up to the booth.
Steve and I locked eyes as I followed Peggy up the stairs, both anxious. Steve was fragile enough as it was, and this looked like it could kill him. Hopefully, Stark had this perfected, unlike his flying car.
“Can you hear me?” I heard Dr. Erskine over the speaker. “Is this on? Ladies and gentlemen, today we take not another step towards annihilation, but the first step on the path to peace.”
Peggy and I were in the front, noses practically pressed against the glass. I could see them placing pads on Steve’s chest. He looked nervous, but was trying to hide it with a steely look.
“We begin with a series of microinjections into the subject’s major muscle groups. The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change. And then, to stimulate growth, the subject will be saturated with Vita-Rays. Serum infusion beginning in five… four… three… two… one.”
I watched as Steve’s face scrunched up, biting back pain. Dr. Erskine had a hand on his shoulder, but Steve didn’t seem to notice, trying his best not to squirm as the dozens of small needles poured the serum into his bloodstream. Stark hit a lever, and the capsule closed around Steve. I must’ve been visibly nervous, because I felt Peggy grab my hand. I looked up at her and she sent me a reassuring smile, squeezing my hand.
Stark began to hit dials, and turned a wheel. A light sparked inside the capsule, and it grew brighter as Stark turned the wheel. It must’ve been the Vita-Rays. Peggy and I squinted, but we didn’t look away. Steve began to scream and I looked at Peggy. She jumped from her seat and ran down the steps. I followed behind her.
“Shut it down!” Peggy shouted. “Shut it down!”
Dr. Erskine began shouting orders for the people to shut it all down.
“No!” Steve screamed. “Don’t! I can do this!”
Stark and Erskine shared a look before Stark turned the wheel the rest of the way. Peggy looked at me, knuckles white from gripping the railing.
“He can handle it.” I looked at her, gripping the sleeves of Bucky’s jacket.
The lights flickered, and things around the room began to spark. The machine shut down, and Erskine called for Stark to open it back up. He did so, and the capsule slid open, red light beaming from inside.
“Steven?” Erskine ran forward first.
I stared, eyes wide. It was still Steve, but he was now taller and more muscular than Bucky. It was insane.
“I did it.” Steve winced as they helped him out.
He was sweaty, and obviously in pain, but he looked at me and smiled.
“Yeah, ya did.” I scoffed, amazed.
“How do you feel?” Peggy ran forward, fingers skimming his new muscles.
“Taller.” He breathed out.
“You look taller.” Peggy handed him a shirt.
He pulled it on, stumbling.
“I feel weaker.” He whispered to me as I came to his side, still in awe.
I laughed, trying to think of a response, but I only stuttered, then shrugged. “Holy fuck.”
He pushed me by the shoulder with a playful eye roll. “That’s a bad word, Lo. Don’t say that.”
I chuckled, but his eyes turned wide and he pulled me under his arm, ducking. There was an explosion, and then glass rained from above.
“Stop him!” Erskine shouted.
There were two gunshots, and people began to scream. Steve pushed me into Peggy, who had her arms out, ready and waiting. He ran to Erskine, who was now on the ground, dying. Peggy lifted one arm, taking two shots at the man who caused the explosion and pocketed the last vial of the serum. She got him in the arm, but he kept running.
“Stay here!” She shouted at me, and then ran after him.
Steve got up and followed. I screamed for him, trying to run to him, but Stark appeared behind me and grabbed me by the wrists, stopping me. I struggled against him, but his grip held firm as Steve disappeared beyond the double doors and after the killer.
“He’s gonna be okay. He’s indestructible.” Stark tried to calm me.
I took my hands back, breathing heavily. “He better be.”
************************************************************************
I stood by Steve’s side as the nurse eyed him before pulling the last syringe of blood from his arm.
“You get enough?” He was upset.
He had been shot at, and he stopped the man, but he killed himself before Steve could bring him in.
“Any hope of reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code. But without Dr. Erskine it would take years.” Peggy explained to him.
I helped him roll his sleeve back into place and he sighed, getting off the table.
“He deserved more than this.”
“Well if it could work only once, he’d be proud it was you.” Peggy sighed.
He sighed again, looking down at me. I reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze. We would figure this all out. We always did.
“Come on.” Peggy led us back downstairs, where Stark was inspecting the submarine the German spy tried to get away in.
“As of today, the SSR is being retasked. We’re taking the fight to Hydra. Pack your bags, Agent Carter. You too, Stark. We’re flying into London tonight.”
I stayed tucked behind Peggy, in front of Steve. I didn’t want to open my mouth, because I was only thirteen and I probably officially wasn’t really here, and I definitely wasn’t supposed to be here, and I absolutely wasn’t supposed to witness what had just happened.
“Sir. If you’re going after Schmidt, I want in.” Steve spoke in as the Colonel passed us by.
“You’re an experiment, you’re going to Alamogordo.”
I stepped back, astonished. Alamogordo was where they had an air force base. Why on earth would they send him there?
“The serum worked.” Steve fought back.
“I asked for an army and all I got was you. You are not enough.” The Colonel scoffed before walking away.
Steve sighed, and another man stepped in, smiling at Steve.
“With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I’ve seen you in action, Steve. More importantly, the country’s seen it.” He held his hand out and his secretary handed him a paper from today. “The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the newsstands. You don’t take a soldier, a symbol like that, and hide him in a lab. Son, do you want to serve your country on the most important battlefield of the war?”
“Sir, that’s all I want.” Steve’s eyes were wide.
“Then, congratulations. You just got promoted.”
************************************************************************
I sighed as I smoothed out Steve’s costume. It was a ridiculously bright white, red, and blue. They refused to send him out onto the actual battlefield. So they made him a consumer icon. And since he didn’t wanna leave me behind, they made me, a thirteen year old kid, his manager.
“I don’t know if I can do this.” Steve mumbled.
“Nothing to it. Sell off a few bonds, bonds buy bullets, bullets kill Nazis. Bing bang boom. You’re an American hero.” Gray, Brant’s secretary, spoke to Steve.
“It’s just not how I pictured getting there.”
“The senator’s got a lot of pull up on the hill. You play ball with us, you’ll be leading your own platoon in no time.”
I waited for Steve to pull the mask with wings on, then handed him the metal shield with stars and stripes on it.
“You’re on, Steve.” I drummed my fingers against the clipboard I held against my chest.
He stepped out onto the stage as the girls sang.
“Who’s strong and brave, here to save the American way?”
“Not all of us can storm a beach or drive a tank. But there’s still a way all of us can fight.” Steve was clearly reading off the back of his shield, and I followed along with the script on the clipboard.
“Who vows to fight like a man, for what’s right, night and day?”
“Series E Defense Bonds. Each one you buy is a bullet in the barrel of your best guy’s gun.”
“Who will campaign door-to-door for America? Carry the flag shore to shore for America? From Hoboken to Spokane, the Star-Spangled Man with a plan!”
************************************************************************
“Cut!” The director yelled as Steve and a bunch of extras walked in front of the forest background. “Guys, don’t look at the camera!”
I sighed. We had been doing the same scene for the last hour, and Steve was getting fussy, like a child who hadn’t eaten lunch. We had been on this plan for the last two years, and Steve could read things off a script and have them memorized in minutes. He was famous world-wide, with the exception of the Axis powers. Bucky only wrote a few times every couple of months, and I feared the worst, but I was too busy with managing Steve and booking tours to find anything out about him.
“And action!”
************************************************************************“We can’t ignore there’s a threat and a war we must win!”
“Each one you buy is a bullet in the barrel of your best guy’s gun!” Steve grinned out at the crowd.
“Who’ll hand a noose on the goose-stepping goons from Berlin? Who’ll redeem, heed the call for America? Who’ll rise or fall, give his all for America? Who’s here to prove that we can? The Star-Spangled Man with a plan!”
“We all know this is about trying to win the war. We can’t do that without bullets and bandages, tanks and tents. That’s where you come in.” Steve spoke as the fake Hilter snuck up behind him and kids in the crowd began to shout. “Every bond you buy will help protect someone you love!”
Like every time, my mind wandered to Bucky. A third year had passed, and everyone I went to refused to give me information. Some because I was a girl, others because I was only seventeen, and others because they simply didn’t feel like it.
“Keep our boys armed and ready, and the Germans will think twice about trying to get the drop on us.” He swung around, faking a punch for the man, sending him to the floor.
“Stalwart and steady and true, forceful and ready to defend the red, white, and blue! Who’ll give the Axis the sack and is smart as a fox? Far as an eagle will soar! Who’s making Adolf afraid to step out of his box? He knows what we’re fighting for! Who wakes the giant that napped in America? We know it’s no one but Captain America! Who’ll finish what they begin? Who’ll kick the Krauts to Japan? The Star-Spangled Man with a plan!”
************************************************************************
Another couple of months passed, and I was betting that Regina thought I was dead. She probably thought Bucky was dead too. Most people did. Steve and I refused to talk about it. Most people, at this point, would hold a memorial or a funeral. Steve and I didn’t. We didn’t say a word. Bucky was probably dead, yes, but neither of us could really accept that he could be gone.
People began to love Steve more and more as time went on. Well, most people. Not soldiers. Soldiers really didn’t like him. We were in Italy, five miles from the front. These men had fought long and hard, and they were tired.
“How many of you ready to help me sock old Adolf on the jaw?”
The soldiers said nothing to Steve. “Okay. Uh… I need a volunteer.”
“I already volunteered! How do you think I got here?”
The crowd laughed.
“Bring back the girls!” A different man shouted.
“I think they only know the one song. But um…let me…I’ll…I’ll see what I can do.” Steve stuttered.
“You do that, sweetheart!”
“Nice boots, Tinker Bell!”
“Come on, guys. We’re all on the same team here.” Steve tried to quiet them down.
“Hey, Captain! Sign this!” A man from the crowd mooned Steve and others began to throw things at him.
“Bring back the girls!” Another soldier shouted again.
“Go.” Gray and I pointed the girls out as Steve came backstage.
“Don’t worry, pal. They’ll warm up to you. Don’t worry.” Gray tried to reassure him.
************************************************************************
“Hello, Steve. Logan.”
Steve turned and I looked up from his drawing to see Peggy.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“What are you doing here?” He asked.
“Well, officially, I’m not really here at all. That was quite the performance.” She grinned, and he shied away.
“Yeah, uh… I had to improvise a bit. Crowds I’m used to are usually more, uh… twelve.” Steve shrugged.
“I understand you’re America’s New Hope?”
“Bond sales take a ten percent bump in every state I visit.” Steve shrugged again.
“Is that Senator Brandt I hear?” She teased.
“At least he’s got me doing this. Phillips would have had me stuck in a lab, and put Logan... who knows where.”
“And these are your only two options?” She gestured to the open book in his lap where he had been drawing. “A lab rat or a dancing monkey? You were meant for more than this, you know? Both of you.”
I only looked away with a sigh. Steve opened his mouth to say something but stopped short, looking down.
“What?”
“You know… for the longest time I dreamed about coming overseas and being on the front lines. Serving my country. I finally get everything I wanted, and I’m wearing tights.”
An ambulance blared its horn, and we turned to watch as wounded soldiers poured out, clutching their sides and their heads and blood falling down their arms and legs in rivers.
“They look like they’ve been through hell.” I mumbled.
“These men more than most. Schmidt sent a force to Azzano. Two hundred men went up against him and less than fifty returned. Your audience contained what was left of the one-oh-seventh. The rest were either killed or captured.”
Steve and I locked eyes, hearts stopping in our chests, bile rising in our throats as our stomachs churned.
“The one-oh-seventh?” I looked at Peggy.
She nodded, confused. Steve tried to grab me, but I shoved his hands away as I got to my feet, stumbling over the laces of my boots. I inhaled shakily as I ran to the Colonel’s tent. Steve and Peggy were at my heels.
“Well, if it isn’t the Star-Spangled Man with a plan and his manager. And what is your plan today?” The Colonel eyed us both.
I couldn’t breathe, so Steve stepped in.
“I need the casualty list from Azzano.”
“You don’t give me orders, son.” He squinted.
“Please, we just need one name. Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes from the 107th. Please, Colonel Phillips.” I gasped out.
“You and I are gonna have a conversation later that you won’t enjoy.” Phillips pointed at Peggy.
“Please just tell us if he’s alive, sir. B-A-R-”
“I can spell.” Phillips cut him off, then eyed me. “He’s your brother, isn’t he?”
I nodded, swallowing.
“I’ve signed more of these condolence letters today than I would care to count. But the name does sound familiar, and I’m sure it was addressed to Miss Logan Barnes. I’m sorry.”
My heart fell to my stomach and I stumbled backward.
“W-what about the others? Are you planning a rescue mission?” Steve placed a hand on my back, steadying me.
“Yeah! It’s called winning the war.”
“But if you know where they are, why not at least…”
“They’re thirty miles behind the lines. Through the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We’d lose more men than we’d save. But I don’t expect you to understand that, because you’re just a glorified chorus girl and a dumb kid.”
Steve scoffed. “I think I understand just fine.”
“Well then understand it somewhere else. If I read the posters correctly, you’ve both got some place to be in thirty minutes.” He walked away.
I stared up at the tent wall, which had a map marked with where the men were thought to be. I nudged Steve, nodding to the map. He studied it and breathed deeply.
“Yes, sir. I do.”
“If you have something to say, right now is the perfect time to keep it to yourself.” Phillips growled at Peggy, who only sighed.
Steve walked out, and I followed him to the tent. He changed into his costume, flinging his other clothing across the room. He yanked a bag up, emptying it onto the ground and then stuffing it with other things.
“What do you plan to do? Walk to Austria?”
“If that’s what it takes.” Steve grunted.
I sat on his bed, pushing my head into my hands.
“You heard the Colonel. Your friend is most likely dead.”
I winced, curling into myself.
“I’m sorry, Logan.”
“You don’t know that.” Steve paused, putting a hand on my shoulder.
“Even so, he’s devising a strategy. If he detects-”
“By the time he’s done that, it could be too late!” I sprang up, following Steve back into the rain and to the jeep. “You told us you thought we were meant for more than this. Did you mean that?”
“Every word.” Peggy sighed.
“Then you gotta let me go.” Steve began to climb into the car.
Peggy raised an eyebrow. “I can do more than that.”
************************************************************************
I sat in the tent, shaking. I was to stay put. Phillips couldn’t force me to talk, and I was only a minor. He couldn’t do much to me. I pulled the blanket up around my shoulders and sighed. Stark and Peggy would drop Steve off. With a plane. Steve would fight his way through the Hydra base. Steve would bring Bucky back. Steve would bring them all back. Alive. I shivered at the prospect of losing Steve too. Would I even be able to go back to New York? Would Regina let me back in? Or had she already booted our things and given our little two bedroom apartment away? And on top of all that, I wasn’t even sure if Bucky would come home again.
************************************************************************
“Senator Brandt, I regret to report that Captain Steven G. Rogers went missing behind enemy lines on the third. Aerial reconnaissance has proven unfruitful. As a result, I must declare Captain Rogers killed in action. Period.” Phillips spoke as the man typed at his desk.
I winced, hugging myself. Stark and Peggy had been found out, but they hadn’t bothered to try and lie about it. Steve still hadn’t come back, and they came clean. Phillips was pissed beyond belief, but it was nothing compared to the idea of Steve being dead too.
“The last surveillance flight is back. No sign of activity.” Peggy spoke quietly.
“Go get a cup of coffee, Corporal.”
“Yes, sir.” He left.
“Now Stark, I can’t touch. He’s rich and the Army’s number one weapons contractor. Miss Barnes here is a minor. But you-” He pointed to Peggy, “you are neither one.”
“With respect, sir, I don’t regret my actions. And I don’t think Captain Rogers did either.” Peggy stated.
“What makes you think I give a damn about your opinions! I took a chance with you, Carter. And now America’s golden boy and a lot of other good men are dead, because you had a crush!”
“It wasn’t that. I had faith.” Peggy defended herself.
“Well, I hope that’s a big comfort to you when they shut this division down.”
Soldiers began to shout and cheer outside. I looked up, confused.
“What the hell’s going on out there?” Phillips hissed.
“Look who it is!”
I pushed past the curtains to see Steve, costume torn and face bruised and bloodied, but alive. Men crowded behind him, most of them also hurt.
“Some of these men need medical attention.” Steve saluted Phillips, who was now behind me.
I scanned the crowd as medics scrambled to help the wounded men. Steve said something about disciplinary action, but everything went numb the moment I saw my older brother.
“Bucky!” It was a shriek, and I was pushing past the sea of dirtied men to reach him.
“Logan!” He shoved his rifle into somebody’s hands and scooped me up, hugging me so tightly I thought my ribs would break.
“I thought you were dead!” I cried, letting my head fall against his shoulder as he lifted me off my feet.
“I know, I know. I’m so sorry, Logan. I’m so sorry.” He calmed me, smoothing my hair back as tears streamed down my face.
“I missed you.”
“I know. I’ve missed you too, Lo . I’m so sorry.” He set me down and sniffled, wiping away his tears and then mine.
“You’re late.” Peggy spoke to Steve.
I broke my attention from Bucky and leaned over, punching Steve in the arm. He grinned at me, and held up a broken transponder.
“Couldn’t call my ride.”
“Why’s he wearing tights?” Bucky leaned in, whispering.
I snickered. “He goes by Captain America, too, Buck.”
Bucky pulled back with a cruel smirk. “Hey! Let’s hear it for Captain America!”
************************************************************************
I slouched against the counter with a yawn. I was still only fifteen, but Captain America vouched for me in that I wasn’t at the bar to drink, but to spend time with my brother, who had been gone for years.
Bucky smoothed my hair back with a soft smile as Steve sat next to us. The other men, who I had learned were dubbed The Howling Commandos, were getting drunk, singing with all of their hearts.
“See? I told you. They’re all idiots.” Bucky grinned, referring to the fact that the men were more than willing to go for the Hydra bases Steve had seen on a map during his rescue mission.
“How about you? You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?” Steve smiled, and Bucky laughed.
“Hell, no. That little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I’m following him. But you’re keeping the outfit, right?”
“You know what?” Steve grinned. “It’s kind of growing on me.”
The singing stopped as Peggy walked in, wearing a red dress that stuck to her like a second layer of skin. She ignored the others and addressed Steve.
“Agent Carter.” Steve swallowed.
“Hi, Peggy.” I grinned at her, spinning around on my stool.
“Hi, Logan. Sergeant Barnes.” She nodded at Bucky.
“Ma’am.” Bucky’s eyes were wide.
Peggy turned back to Steve. “Howard has some equipment for you to try. Tomorrow morning?”
Steve nodded. “Sounds good.”
“I see your top squad is prepping for duty.” She eyed the drinking men.
“You don’t like music?” Bucky tilted his head.
“I do, actually. I might even, when this is all over, go dancing.” Peggy stated, curt.
“Then what are we waiting for?” Bucky winked.
I turned to him, eyebrows furrowed. What had the war done to him?
“The right partner.” Peggy responded, eyes on Steve. “0800, Captain.”
“Yes, ma’am. I’ll be there.” Steve nodded, and Peggy turned on her black heels and left.
“I… I’m invisible. I’m … I’m turning into you. It’s like some horrible dream.” Bucky spoke to Steve, who only laughed.
“Don’t take it so hard. Maybe she’s got a friend.”
************************************************************************
The boys were getting ready to leave, packing their final things and changing into their army uniforms. I had woken up early to see them off, horrified to have the same thing happen once more. Bucky would come home this time, as would Steve, but it was still a scary thought in the back of my head.
“Logan, do you have a hairbrush?” Bucky came out of the bathroom, trying to comb his hair back with his hands.
I laughed, still sleepy as I patted the spot on the bed in front of me. “I wanna brush it.”
He rolled his eyes playfully before sitting down. I pulled the brush through his hair, laughing as he squirmed. I finished his hair as Steve came back, fully dressed. He sat down and tied his shoes. Bucky did the same, pushing at his hair once more before turning back to me with a sad sigh.
“Be careful. Please.” I stared up at him.
He nodded, then pulled me to stand, hugging me tightly. I buried my head into his shoulder and held back tears. He let go first, smiling at me and ruffling my hair.
“I will be. I love you. I’ll see you soon.”
I fixed my hair and he kissed my forehead. He shouldered his bag and walked through the door with a sad smile.
“Steve, wait!” I called him back, tears flowing freely now.
“Be safe. And-”
“I’ll bring him back. I promise.” Steve hugged me.
I nodded as I pulled back.
“Thank you.”
They left, closing the door behind them. I sat back down on the bed and sighed. My only people were gone. Again.
************************************************************************
The next few days were uneventful. Stark let me help him around his lab, but only to tidy things up. He was sort of a spaz when it came to his little inventions. He treated them like they were his children, which I understood to an extent. I slept in the little motel room the division had rented for Steve, Bucky, and I. Peggy would stop by to visit every other day. Sometimes she would give me updates on the boys, other times she would bring by food and a new book so I had something to do.
The boys were supposed to come home tonight. I was excited, so excited that Stark kicked me out of his lab and told me to go do something useful. I settled for baking a peach pie in the kitchen. The boys scarfed them down whenever I made them back home, and they would probably appreciate a taste of home when they returned from their mission.
************************************************************************
I sat on the steps of the Allied HQ. The boys were due back any minute now, and I had the pie wrapped up next to me. My leg was bobbing up and down at such a speed that my foot went numb and my ankle was beginning to hurt. I had gotten a bad feeling around noon, and I couldn’t seem to shake it. I chalked it up to an upset stomach, but it was beginning to feel like something more.
I checked my watch and sighed. The boys were late. I looked back up to see Peggy running to me, eyes wide and concerned. I asked her what was wrong, but nothing that came out of her mouth was comprehensible. A black car pulled up, and Steve was the first to climb out. I smiled at him, but when he looked at me, he started to cry. Things began to move in slow motion. The other men poured out of the car. But none of them were Bucky. Steve fell to his knees in front of me and spoke.
“Bucky’s gone.”
I shuddered, feeling my heart break. It ached, and I stared at Steve with wide eyes.
“But you promised!” I screamed, hitting his chest.
“I’m so sorry, Logan.” He tried to pull me into a hug.
I hit his chest again, squirming up and away. I ran, and I didn’t stop.
************************************************************************
I woke up in the motel room. I felt like I hadn’t gotten any sleep. My limbs felt leaden, heavy, asleep. There was a knock on the door, and I grunted. Peggy walked in and set down a mug, presumably of coffee. I forced myself to sit up. I hadn’t left the room in days, and I refused to speak to Steve. I had never felt so betrayed, so hurt, so much pain.
“Logan.” She spoke, and her voice broke.
I looked up at her, now alert. Peggy didn’t cry.
“Steve’s gone.” She pushed out, then broke down.
I felt myself go numb as Peggy cried beside me. I could only breathe, and only if I really focused. When did he leave? What mission did he have? Why was he gone? How? I looked at Peggy, feeling my eyes begin to burn.
I stuttered, but no words came. I let out a sob, and Peggy pulled me into a hug, trying to soothe me.
“What happened?” I stumbled over the words, my tongue heavy in my mouth.
She only sobbed again.
************************************************************************
Steve had left to stop Schmidt. He had to save New York. He crashed the aircraft into the middle of nowhere. He was gone. They still hadn’t found him. They built a memorial for him in Brooklyn. Bucky was forgotten by everyone but me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was still alive. Regina had died, and the apartments were torn down. I had nowhere to go. I was an orphan, a sister without a brother, and now a girl without her only friend. Stark, Peggy, and the others were to return to their homes tomorrow.
“Logan?” There was a knock at the door.
“You can come in.” I shifted in the bed of the motel.
The door opened, and Peggy walked into the room. She eyed me with a sigh, then sat next to me.
“How do you feel?”
I scoffed. “Can I be honest?”
She nodded, understanding what I meant. “Vulgar too, if you’d like.”
“I feel like total fucking shit. My brother’s dead. My best friend is dead. They’re all gone. My apartment got torn down. It’s all over. I’m fifteen and I don’t have a family anymore.”
She nodded again, sighing.
“I’m sorry, Logan. I know that doesn’t make any of it better. But genuinely, I’m so sorry.”
I shrugged. “Not much could make any of it better. Not unless you can go back in time and fix it all.”
She looked down at me. “Listen. I know we aren’t very close. I know I could never replace any of your family. But… would you like to move in with me? You would have your own room, you could have all your own freedom…” She sighed. “I just… I don’t want you to keep being alone.” She eyed me.
I looked up at her, then smiled. “Seriously?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
I threw my arms around her and began to sob, overwhelmed.
“Thank you, Peggy. Thank you.”
************************************************************************
I loved Peggy. I still love Peggy. But I only managed to live with her for three months. She always had to go for work, and I couldn’t stand to be left alone with her younger brother. Their relationship reminded me of Bucky and myself. I still believed he was alive, and I missed him, and I couldn’t handle it any longer. I grew desperate. I ran away. I lasted three weeks. Then I went to Stark.
I knocked at his door. His security measures were fairly weak. But I was still horrified. If he couldn’t take me in, then I was a goner. For real this time. There was no place for me to go. The door opened.
“Logan Barnes! What a surprise! What’re you doing here? Please, come in, come in!” He was cheerful.
I stumbled in. “Hi, Mr. Stark.”
“Hey. I heard about your brother. I’m sorry for your loss.” He patted my shoulder.
I nodded, biting back tears. I breathed deeply. “Um. I’m actually… here about that.” I sighed. “I have nowhere to go. And you’re the only person I had left to think of. A-and I-”
“No, it’s alright. I understand.”
I looked up at him, my bottom lip quivering. My nose became stuff and my eyes started to burn. “I know it’s a lot to ask. I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “It’s alright. You can stay here. I’ll do my best, but I’m no father.” He smiled.
I chuckled. “Neither was my brother, don’t worry.”
He smiled again, wider this time. “Well, I’ll show you to your room.”
************************************************************************
I jolted awake. Bucky was gone, but still alive. Steve was gone. I wiped the tears away, but they kept coming. The sheets, thankfully, were soft and smooth and comfortable. I had been living with Stark for a week. He was nicer than I had expected. He understood that I was in pain, and he gave me the space I needed while also ensuring that I didn’t become unhealthily isolated. There was a knock on the door.
“Logan. You’ve been sleeping for a while. Are you okay?”
I sniffed and cleared my throat.
“Yeah, I’m okay. I’ll be down in a minute.”
“Alright. No rush.” I heard his footsteps leave.
I sighed. I had dreamt about Bucky, again. I was still firm in my belief that he was out there, somewhere, alive, and scared, waiting for help to come. But nobody agreed with me. Nobody else thought he was still alive.
I wiped the sleep from my eyes and got out of bed. I changed out of my pajamas and into normal clothing: a pair of overalls with one of Bucky’s old shirts underneath. I found Stark at the dinner table, a cup of coffee on the table in front of him. I sat down with a sigh.
“How’d you sleep?”
I shrugged. “Keep having nightmares.”
He nodded. “You ready to talk about them? You keep having them. They about your brother?”
I finally looked up at him. “He’s still alive. He has to be. I-I-I… I just have this feeling. Like he’s not really gone. You know? He’s alive, he’s somewhere out there.”
Stark arched an eyebrow. “A feeling?”
I scoffed. “I know it sounds ridiculous, but… When I get feelings… like this. I’m usually not wrong.”
“Could it be possible that you just want to believe that he’s still alive?”
I nodded, biting my lip. “Yeah, I guess so. I mean… my mom didn’t want me. She left me and my brother.” I shrugged. “And then my dad died. Bucky was all I really had.”
Stark only sighed. “I’m sorry.”
I shrugged. “Bucky liked French. He uh… had a favorite phrase. I think it was something like uh…” I cleared my throat. “C’est le vie.”
“I believe it’s C’est la vie.” Stark smiled.
I snorted. “Yeah.”
************************************************************************
“Logan. You’ve been in there for two days. You have to come out.” Howard knocked on the lab door.
“I can’t. I’m so close.” I dropped my head against the wall behind my head. “I’ve almost got it.”
Howard forced the door open, shutting off the computer systems.
“Please!” I whined, but he ignored my pleas.
This had continued for two months. I still believed Bucky was alive.
“Look, Logan.” He squatted in front of me, eyes stern. “He might be out there. You could be right. Bucky could still be alive. But you can’t find him. You cannot find him. You don’t know where he is. Do you understand me?” He shook me by the shoulders.
I looked away.
“Logan. Do you understand me? Bucky might be out there, but you don’t know where. You can’t find him. You’re just a kid.”
Something in my brain flipped and I looked up at him.
“Maybe I could be more.”
“What?”
“Maybe I could be more.” I repeated.
“Logan?”
I stood up, eyes wide as I looked at him.
“If I had the serum. I could be more than just a kid.”
“No.” He shook his head.
“Howard, please. I can find him. I-I-I-I just… I just need a little help. The serum could help me.”
Howard paused, and then shook his head again. “No, Logan. I’m sorry. The last part of the serum was destroyed, remember?”
“No. No, you told me that you made a better version. An advanced one. You just didn’t have anything to test it on.”
“Logan, I have no idea if that would even work. It could kill you!”
“So what? If it works, then great. I get to find my brother. If it doesn’t, and I die…” I shrugged. “I don’t wanna live without Bucky anyways.”
Howard thought it over, I could see it in his eyes. But then he shook his head again, with a scoff.
“No. I’m sorry, Logan. But I’m not doing it.”
************************************************************************
“Are you ready?” Howard asked as I laid down in the capsule.
I nodded. “Now more than ever.”
“It’s gonna hurt.” He warned.
I nodded again. “I know.”
************************************************************************“Well why in the hell did you do it?” I could hear Peggy.
“She begged! She wants to find her brother! That’s all she wants! Who am I to stop her?” Howard shouted back.
“Well what if she dies? She looks like she’s about to!”
“Just… Peggy, please don’t mention it to anybody.”
“I have to! She’s not normal anymore!”
I forced my eyes open looking to my side to see that neither of them were in the lab. I pushed myself up with a grunt. I looked at my arms. I didn’t seem more muscular. My legs didn’t either. Sure, I was definitely more toned, and I was no longer chubby, but there wasn’t a notable difference like there had been with Steve.
I got to my feet, and stumbled out of the lab. It sounded like Peggy and Howard were in the kitchen, and they were still yelling at each other. They were a floor away, but they sounded like they were on either side of me.
“Guys!” I called out as I reached the steps.
“Logan!” Howard was relieved.
“Logan.” Peggy was angry.
I felt a mix of my emotions in my head. Peggy came over and grabbed me by the shoulders. I felt a stabbing pain in my leg and I winced, pulling away from her. She let go, and I felt the pain remain. I looked at her, confused.
“Did you hurt your leg?” I asked.
She nodded. “Yes, earlier this week. How did you know?”
“I felt it.”
“What?”
“I felt it.” I spoke louder this time. “When you touched me, I felt it. Y-your right leg. Just under your knee.”
She nodded, eyes wide. I looked to Howard, who was ecstatic.
“This is amazing!”
“What the hell?” Peggy scoffed.
“Okay. Okay, I want you to tell me exactly what has changed.” Howard spoke softly.
“Uh…” I felt light-headed. “I’m skinnier. Uh, I can hear … I could hear you guys, clear as day, down from the lab. And I just felt Peggy’s pain.” I looked up.
“When she said she felt it, it went away.” Peggy spoke.
“Yeah, I still feel it.” I grunted.
Howard and Peggy shared a look.
“We have to give her up to SHIELD.” Peggy shook her head.
“What’s SHIELD gonna do with her?”
“House her! Keep her safe!”
I wrapped my arms around myself and sighed, letting my head dip forward as I blacked out.

Steve must rescue his two closest friends with his sister at his side. But what are the lasting effects of the HYDRA attack, and will their life ever go back to normal after it?
Warnings: mentions of traumatic events, bad writing, strong language, lmk if there's others I should put.
It was June 13, 1942. A soft breeze ruffled the leaves on every tree and bush. Around every corner was the quiet murmur of voices, talking about family and friends, summer activities, and more non-important matters. And the smell of funnel cake wafted through the air, making everyone's mouth water with lust for the sweet treat.
"Do you know when they said they'd get here?" Eden asked.
"Not really. Bucky just told me to meet him here," Steve said. The two siblings peered through the crowd, trying to find the pair that had invited them. Without warning, Eden let out a squeal, making a beeline for the boy and girl that had appeared in her eyeline. She embraced them, one by one, while Steve ran to catch up.
"Hey Bucky," Eden said. She tousled his already messy hair, making him scowl playfully. Bucky was tall and muscular with the kind of face that made you feel safe. When he smiled, his eyes lit up the room, bringing joy everywhere he went. Bucky was neither selfish nor conceited; he cared so much for so many people. That's what drew Eden to Bucky so much. He never had any hesitation to do what he thought was right.
Kaz, on the other hand, was short and slightly chubby. She didn't look too much like her brother; their eyes were different colors and they had very different builds. But her smile was the same. She was the kind of person that could make someone feel like the most important person in the world. Eden and Kaz had been friends for as long as they could remember; they went to school together, played on the playground together, laughed together, and cried together.
"Hi!" Kaz squealed when Eden hugged her tightly.
"I can't believe you're leaving tomorrow! I mean, it feels like you just got the letter yesterday," Eden said.
Kaz shrugged, "We practically did. It was only, what?" Kaz looked to Bucky for help. "Last week?"
Bucky chuckled, "Not even. I think it was Thursday." Kaz and Bucky did everything together, they were practically inseparable. So it only made sense that they were going to war together. Bucky had been drafted; he had no choice. Kaz had a different story. When she had graduated high school, she applied for the nursing program at Brooklyn College, and the students had the opportunity to volunteer to help the warfare. So she did. It was only a coincidence that they were both in the 107th infantry.
"Steve, don't look so down," Bucky said, drawing everyone's attention to the sulking boy. "You're about to be the last eligible man in New York. You know there are three and a half million women here?"
"Well, Steve will settle for just one," Eden said.
"Good thing I've already taken care of that," Bucky said, nodding his head in the opposite direction. Steve and Eden turned to find two giggling girls, skipping over to Bucky.
"He did not-" Eden rolled her eyes and turned to Kaz. Kaz simply shrugged. She wasn't the most talkative person. In fact, next to Steve, she was the quietest in the group. The girls whom Bucky invited, though, were quite the opposite.
"Hi, Bucky!" One of them squealed, stomping her silly little feet and waving her silly little hands around. The other just ran up to him and wrapped her arms around his torso like a child who missed their mother.
Eden turned to Kaz and fake gagged, eliciting a sharp "shh" from her friend.
"C'mon ladies, let's go watch the show!" Bucky said, his eyes shining. Kaz nodded and took Eden's hand, beckoning for Steve to follow at the same time.
"Oh my God! There he is!" One girl shrieked, taking off towards the stage. It caught a few people's attention, causing them to look in the direction of the stage.
"Ladies, you know how hard it can be putting on makeup in a car that's bouncing like a kangaroo on a trampoline." Howard Stark said, waving to the crowd with a cocky smile plastered on his face.
"He's cute," Eden whispered to Kaz. Kaz smiled to herself and nodded, reassuring her friend. Eden stared back at the man on the stage. For a moment, it seemed like he was looking directly at her, but she couldn't tell for sure.
"What if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile won't have to touch the ground at all?" Howard smiled even wider, turning back to the car that was on stage. It was a cherry red, Volkswagen beetle, with white wheels. The ladies on stage looked as if they were struggling with taking off the wheels, but they still pushed through. Eden held her breath as the car started levitating a few feet off the ground.
"With Stark Gravitic Reversion Technology (patent pending), you'll be able to do just that-" With a pop and a spark, the car came crashing back down to the ground, making the audience, and Stark, gasp. "I did say a few years, didn't I?" Eden chuckled along with the crowd.
"Hey, you tell Steve and Bucky I'm going to meet up with someone. I'll be back in a bit." Eden whispered to Kaz, her eyes never breaking with Howards.
"What are you-" Kaz said, but Eden was already gone. She made a direct line for the stage, not stopping when countless men and women bumped into her.
"I was wondering if you would come up here. A beautiful woman like you should be on stage, not in the crowd" Howard said, extending his hand for Eden. She used it to help her up onto the stage. She looked back into the crowd one more time. Kaz was looking from Bucky to Steve, who was walking away from the stage. It seems as though she got through the internal battle, as she whispered something to Bucky, then took after Steve. But Bucky didn't seem to hear her. He stood, jaw gaped at the stage. Or more specifically, at Eden. And this is exactly what she wanted.
Eden always had a crush on Bucky. Since they were kids, she would give him flowers and rocks she found on the ground. He never thought anything of it, not until high school anyways. She asked him out on Sadie Hawkins's day, not realizing that he was dating Tina Bradly, the most popular senior at the school. Terrifyingly embarrassed, Eden realized that would be the last time she actively pursued him. But the feelings didn't go away. Anything she could do to get a reaction out of him was good enough for her.
"What do you say we get out of here? Go somewhere a little more...private?" Eden asked Howard, making him smirk.
"I was thinking the exact same thing," Howard said. Before he could walk off though, Eden pulled him in by the hand. She took his face in her palms and brought it down to her level. She kissed him softly, making everyone who was still in the crowd erupted into cheers. Everyone except one boy, whose jaw was still dropped in shock.
"Kaz!" Eden said, tapping her best friend on the shoulder.
"What? No-" Kaz cut herself off as she took in the state of Eden. Her black hair was messy and she had tear lines streaming down her face. It was not a question as to what Eden had just been doing. "With Howard?" She chuckled. Eden nodded. Kaz rolled her eyes.

Miguel remembered when he was a child, his first years as a brother in a nice farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in Costa Rica, but he also remembered his five year old sister being completely broken when their father left with no explanation one morning just after church, when he was just ten years old. One thing he learned was that both ended up doing stupid things when she was broken.
Everything started as an excuse to get Val out of her bed. At first there were pillow forts in the living room, replacing all the christian images in her grandma's old room with Obi-Wan Kenobi figures and pictures, he even promises her a gaboon viper.
But the real winner was the promise of a tattoo.
Miguel was lucky, he got a call from SWORD,from  Maria Rambeau, an old air force colleague of their mom, she was interested in them. He was able to make Val presentable for that interview and they went out with the promise of a call.
"I underestimate you"
"About what?"
"You did my make up today and also did my hair, you got better" her sister smiled at him while he parked outside the tattoo shop.
"Well, someone wants to give you a job, it is my duty as the old one to make you look presentable" he turns off the engine and both get out of the car, walking together to the inside of the shop. They both got ready, taking off their blazers and rolling until their elbow the sleeve of their formal shirts.
Miguel rests his right arm in the tattoo stretcher, his tattoo was planned to be a few inches down of the elbow flexure, it was a small bouquet composed of lilies, roses and dahlias in black, he wanted to keep close a symbol of strength and inspiration, having the favorite flowers of his favorite ladies in his skin was a tribute, but an inside form of keeping himself stronger for those ladies that always where there with him: his mom, his grandma and his little sister.
He looked at her sister on his right, the other artist was working on a beautiful small howling wolf inches up her left wrist that was going to be inside a circle made of pink lilies, red  roses and yellow narcissus.
Migue knows his sister pretty well, he knows the meaning behind all. Left arm and a Howling Wolf was for James Barnes; “He was in the 107 back in the Second World War, and then in the Howling Commando, but he was also called the White Wolf in Wakanda”, Miguel never forgot that conversation when she opened up one night, the first time in years that she brought the subject of a partner, most of the time was him asking for love advice from her, this time was the opposite, it wasn’t a love advice, but a call for help from her heart.
The pink lilies were her mother favorites, and Valentina was mommy favorite, red roses also from abuela Margarita, the crazy old lady that ended up raising them, but the yellow narcissus were new. He knew the story behind the meaning of the flowers, he studied that in his last relationship, narcissus were unequal love, but also death and rebirth. “Her unequal love to Sarge Barnes, but also her emotional death and rebirth” he says to himself.
*
Both siblings ended up in the family restaurant that remains closed to the public until further notice. There was food in the pantry that needed to be used, they donated a big amount to orphanages with the help of Natasha, another amount ended with families that lost their economic support due the death of the worker person in the family, and another was donated to feeding centers for homeless people, there were plans to donate to disable organizations for those who lost their jobs or caretakers.
But even donating, food was there in an industrial amount. The whole family constantly ended there, for lunch or dinner mostly. But today the family was gathering under Val orders, to share some food with them and with Steve and Nat, who were considered family now.
"That’s disgusting, why are people still drinking Coke? Is the worst"
"Valentina, stop. You are attacking us" the survivor half of the family looked at her, dead serious.
"Fine, I’m not going to verbally attack today, we have something we want to share" the siblings stand up, with some papers in their hands.
"We found mom’s old notes when we were cleaning the family warehouse. So we spoke with tia Gloria because is the only founder alive." Miguel opens some space in the big table, to put the papers in order.
"She had a vision with this restaurant that she never said. Mamita wanted to expand Las tres damas into something bigger. She wanted to use the restaurant as the main money entrance. Mami wanted to build an art center for children in social risk, in the space we have up stairs, she wanted to buy the building at the back of the restaurant and open a help center for veterans and single parents."
"Julia wanted to expand the building to host a real place for people that needed a family, or that wanted a place to be accepted for who they are, to be heard and to seek advice.  Los niños solo quieren cumplir el sueño de Julita. And I want to do it too." Spoke aunt Gloria.
"We want Steve to run the veterans center but also run a help program for people affected for the snap, a space to share, to speak and seek for advice" finally said Miguel while looking for the words and giving the plan that his Mom once wrote for it" You are like… 70 years ahead of experience in that, having you would be actually helpful." Steve doesn't waste time and starts to give it a quick read.
"I want Nat to help me and run the Art Center" Val does the same as his brother, but gives the papers to Natasha" We already spent a lot of time together in those orphanages, doing the logistics for the amount of donations that we both did. I’m pretty sure we can run an art center together"
There is a tense moment while both superheroes read the notes of Julia, everyone was in extreme silence, with fear of rejection.
"Yeah, this sounds nice" Nat and Steve look at each other" We are in"
"Ay Dios muchisimas gracias" said Miguel while breathing out aggressively the air that was containing due the expectation.
Miguel, Val y Gloria make a group hug with Steve and Nat, like a long time family, while the others clap and cheer happily.

„Siblings?” I tried to say the word say out loud, to taste it one more time. But why would my parent won't tell me about them? Why would they seperate us after all? And when they did, why did they kept together and not me?
And then I realize how my mom told that I was born before the due date. But from my train of thoughts disturbs Bruce's arrival with the twins behind his back. My supposed siblings.
Pietro smile at with non-worried smile unlike from Wanda who looks more than unfriendly.
„We have to tell you something.” Starts Bruce first.
„I know it.” I nod towards the twins.
„What do you mean, you know?” She furrow her brows.
„Well…. I-I…” I stutter, not sure how to explain without making her more angry at me. „I sometime see, what you see.”
Wanda's face gets more angry, like she doesn't believe this at all. She turns towards the others, not even bothered to lower her voice: „What if she is their agent? And all of this…” She gestures towards me. „...It's all just fake, so they get to us from the inside. She already hurt Natasha, who is gonna be next?”
„I-I… I didn't meant to hurt her….” I can feel the tears in my eyes once again, but before I can tell anything else a red streak appears in the room and a sharp objects is put to my neck with Wanda's powers.
„Wanda!” Shrieks both out, and Pietro quickly takes Wanda by her hands and the objects falls to the ground quickly.
„I haven't heard about any kind of way to fake the DNA, yours and Pietro's are very extraordinary, so I really doubt any of the Hydra associates would know how to fake it well enough for our technology not to found out it's a fake.” Tries to sooth her Bruce.
„But why wouldn't our parents tell us about her?” She tries to fight back a little.
„I was born a couple weeks before the due date.” I tells them quietly.
„That would make sense.” Nods Bruce.
„How?” Asks Wanda again.
„If her powers were already extraordinary even when she was in the womb and doesn't even need to be tested on, they could have taken her out the first moment, they knew, she would survive as an infant. And after that they could have told your parents that the third baby was absorbed by one of you, which actually happens a lot.” He starts to speculate.
Wanda's face stays angry by she doesn't tries to fight back anymore, and instead of staying to look at my face, she rather leave without another word. Pietro tries to follow her, but Bruce stops him. „Just give her a minute, boy.” He smiles at the younger one.
And then they both turns around to look at me, to watch my own reaction. But how was I supposed to react? I felt calm. Or maybe just empty.
I knew back there, in the hospital, all felt just weird. I knew I did not belong there.
Another way of calmness goes through my brain when I realize the woman I accidently killed wasn't even my mother, but someone who was hired to act like one. Now I retrospectively realize how cold and distant she always was towards me, that I never were hugged by her, or praised. All of them there, were just trying to smiles at me, because they knew what I could do, not because they were my friends. Not even Katherine, she was one of them. My only friend, who I trusted, told her everything, cried on her shoulder, all of that was fake. It was only an act.
I can feel a small tear escaping my eyes, when I think about her and how alone I actually was in there.
Someone's arm slowly wraps my body, and I can feel my my body sinking into the other one's and grasping on his shirt, like my life depends on it right now. I can smell his collogne, and right now it feels like the only thing I need. The embrace of my brother and I realize I never felt more like at home, than right now.
„You are home.” He says quietly, like he could read my thoughts. „And you know what?” He pulls away a little so he can look at me. „I knew I met you already.”
„W-What… How could you…?”
„In the womb!” He laughs, amused by his own joke.
„Pietro, I don't think that's how it works-...” Tries to explain him Bruce.
„Shut it, doc, leave me that one, will you?” He shut it him quickly and he looks at me as I quietly giggle in his arms and winks.
I shake my head a little before I look back at Bruce. „Do you think I could… Maybe see Natasha?” I ask quietly, as I feel real urge to apologize to her for a very long time. Because I did not meant to hurt anyone, I just couldn't stop myself back there, I did not had the control, not that I have one now. And also I feel like I need to see with my own eyes, that she is actually alive.
„Maybe we should wait when she is released from the ICU.” Says Bruce a little nervously.
„Oh… Okay…”
„He just wanted to say that we don't feel like having you blown the hospital wing up in the air, like before.” Says Pietro quickly and I give myself a quick mind note, that if I would like someone's honest opinion on something it definitely should be Pietro, that guy has no filter.
„You knwo what Pietro? I feel like you should go check on Wanda.” Says Bruce with a frown.
Pietro doesn't says another word and with a blue streaks left behind him, he is gone.
So…” Turn Bruce towards me. „What if we look at your legs? I will do anything to make you stand up.” He jokes nervously, so I nod at him with a small smile.

It was Bucky's day off.
Well, he had a couple of days off and today is just the beginning of it.
Naturally, he wanted to spend those days with his two girls. Unfortunately, you had a lot of errands to run since you do have that diner, plus you had to pay the bills and buy food for your family. So, you suggested that your husband and daughter spend the day together, just the two of them. And so, he planned their day, starting with a yummy breakfast that he, himself will make. After that, he planned to play with her and her toys, then maybe watch some movies. Then he'd take her, along with their dog,  bakrie to the park for some ice cream and just to run around and play on the playground, then they'd make dinner for mommy.
Grabbing your things, you passed by your two favorite people, "enjoy your day together, my babies!" you placed all of the things you needed for the day in your bag.
Celeste, your 4 year old daughter, laughed and looked up at her father, "hehehe mommy called you a baby too!"
"Yeah? Well I am her first baby,” Bucky said, smirking at your child, making her look up at you with shock and betrayal written all over her face. "What?!" she shrieked.
You laughed at your daughter's reaction, "daddy's just kidding, dolly. Now, c'mon and gimme a hug before I go," you crouched down and opened your arms as she ran to you. You hugged her tiny body tightly and kissed her chubby cheeks.
When you stood up, Bucky grabbed your waist and kissed your cheeks, whispering a goodbye, doll. I love you, which you returned. He picked up Celeste who was waving at you, "bye mommy, stay safe!"
"You too, C. Watch your daddy while I'm gone, yeah?" you winked at her, making her raise her fist in excitement, "yeah!" Bucky chuckled and shook his head at his two girls before giving you another kiss goodbye.
After watching you drive away, Bucky and Celeste went back inside their home. it's a simple two-storey home that Bucky himself had planned for you and your growing family. You and Bucky moved in after your honeymoon, almost 6 years ago. It's situated just outside of the city, a bit further away from your jobs, but at least now, you have your own place.
Some years ago, before you met Bucky Barnes, you lived with 4 other people you considered as your siblings (though one of them is actually your adoptive brother).
The said adoptive brother, Peter, is now a successful engineer and a very caring Uncle to your sweet Celeste. After you and Bucky moved out, you transferred the name of the apartment to him, so he now lives there with his long-term girlfriend, MJ, and sometimes Pietro.
Well... Pietro travels a lot due to his job. you honestly don't know what he's up to now, last thing you remember is that he's a youtuber who rarely comes home. It must pay a lot, you thought, since you see that his vlogs are out of the country.
Anyways, his twin sister, Wanda, is someone you also used to live with. She still works for you as a manager in your diner, but she moved out of the apartment just months ago, ever since she found out she's finally with child. She and her husband, Vision, found a house in your neighborhood and now lives a block away from you and your family.
Another person you used to live with is Natasha. she used to work for you too, in your diner, before she discovered her passion in life, which is fashion. Now, she's a rising name in the fashion industry, and you couldn't be prouder. She's also married to Bucky's best friend, Steve, and they both live in the same apartment that she moved into way back when they were still just boyfriend-girlfriend.
Now, you and Bucky, that's a long story. The important part is that years ago, both of you finally came to your senses and got together. After a few months together, Bucky moved into your big ass apartment, then he bought you a dog, then a ring, made you a house, and gave you your precious dolly, C.
"So, what do you wanna do today, C?" asked Bucky. The little girl tapped her pointer finger to her chin, thinking of what game she wanted to play with her daddy.
She jumped and clapped her hands, "let's play dinosaurs, dragons, and princesses!"
Her father smiled, "ooh, that sounds fun!"
Celeste ran to her room for Bucky to follow. After an hour of running around — with some toys and improvised costumes — both inside and outside of the house, Bucky decided that it was time to have a little break. The duo went to their kitchen to get some snacks and drinks before deciding to watch a movie for now.
Halfway into the movie, Bucky's phone rang, a sound that Celeste hated since it always keeps her mommy and daddy away from her. Celeste gave her father a look of disappointment, something that Bucky thinks she learned from her Uncle Steve. He promised her that it will be really quick and that they don't have to pause the movie.
Bucky went to the kitchen, where he can talk to whoever is calling, properly, "hey, what's up?... what?... it's my day off..." he looked at his daughter who was enjoying the music sequence of the movie they were watching, "can't anyone else do it? I'm with my daughter...well, can I bring her?...what?...fine, I'm on my way."
He sighed and rubbed his temples before walking back to the living room to his singing daughter. Celeste stopped singing as she looked at her dad who had an apologetic look on his face, but to her, it was a look saying that her daddy needs to go to the restroom.
Before she could say anything, her dad spoke up, "hey C, umm, daddy has to do something at work today. So I'm gonna drop you off at unky Stevie's, okay?"
She pouted, tears forming in her eyes, "but it's Celeste and daddy day."
He felt extremely bad. He wanted to cry knowing that he was the reason that his precious dolly is sad, "I know, sorry honey. I'm really really sorry. I'm gonna make it up to you okay?" he said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"You promise?" she sniffled.
He showed her his pinky which she locked her tiny pinky with, "I promise dolly. Tomorrow, I’ll be with you and mommy for the whole day. Now let's get you dressed up to see Unky Stevie and Aunt Natty."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a 10-minute drive to the Romanoff-Roger's apartment complex. Bucky entertained his 4-year-old by playing her playlist called "Celeste's cool playlist" which she named herself. She's really proud of it too.
When they arrived, Celeste brought her cute little backpack containing her favorite doll from her Uncle Pietro, some clothes Bucky packed for her, a few snacks, a bottle of water, her crayons, and some paper which she insisted to bring since she wanted to color with her aunt and uncle.
"Hey C! you look very pretty today," Steve greeted, picking her up.
She gave him a toothy grin, "thanks Uncky Stevie. You look pretty today too!"
"Thank you sweetie. Do you wanna see Aunt Natty?" he asked, making the little girl nod excitedly, "go ahead, she's in the kitchen."
Steve sighed heavily at his friend, "I love my godchild, I really do, but I also have to work later. Why couldn't you just bring her to Pepper? At least there, she could play with Morgan."
"I would, but they're still in Hawaii," Bucky sighed. "Anyways, I packed all her stuff in the backpack she's wearing. And you know she's not choosy with food, so you can feed her whatever is available for lunch. Just text me when you need to leave, I'll try to get out ASAP." he instructed, giving him an apologetic look.
Steve nodded as Bucky spoke again, "oh, and don't--"
"Don't tell Y/N, okay I got it."
"Thanks, I owe you one!"
Bucky called his daughter again to hug and kiss her goodbye. He thanked Natasha when he saw her and wished her to have a safe flight before leaving the apartment.
Steve looked at his wife and godchild who are now back in the living room, watching some cartoons. He loves his godchild. He loves spoiling her, taking care of her, and spending time with her. He really did want to spend the rest of the day with her. But...he has site visits later.
"So, C... what do you wanna eat for lunch?" Steve asked her as he sat down beside her.
"Aunt Natty's burgers!" Celeste cheered, causing the couple to laugh.
Steve dramatically gasped, "what about Uncky Stevie's burgers? You don’t like them?"
"Aunt Natty's is cheesier."
So the three made burgers for lunch which they ate while watching Celeste's cartoons. Celeste was quite chatty. Growing up with talkative and energetic parents, aunts, and uncles will do that to you.
She's such a bright kid too. She tries to make sense of everything that's happening around her. That's why when her Uncky Steve's phone started ringing, she immediately got sad and clingy, knowing that the phone would make her Uncky Stevie go away too.
"Aww C, I have to answer this," Steve said, looking at the little girl apologetically.
Celeste pouted and let go of his arm hesitantly. She climbed on to her Aunt Natty's lap and hugged her as Steve walked away to answer his phone.
"Hello?...fuck is it 1pm already?...okay fine, i'll meet you guys there," Steve grabbed all the things he needed before going back to the living room where the girls are still watching tv.
"Uncky Steve, are you leaving too?" Celeste asked, pouting.
Steve frowned at the sight, he didn't want to leave his favorite (and only) godchild. How could Bucky and Y/N leave this little girl everyday to go to work?, he thought. "I have to, C. But you'll be staying with Aunt Natty. I'll bring you more burgers and donuts when I next see you, kay?"
The little girl sighed, "m'kay."
Natasha walked to her husband, leading him out of earshot and leaving Celeste on the couch, "I have to go to the airport at 2pm. I hope you or Bucky will be back by then."
Steve gave his wife an apologetic look, "sorry babe, the earliest I could do is 4:30. You should call Buck or Wanda? just don't tell Y/N."
"Don't tell Y/N that her child is with us?"
Steve raised his hands in surrender, "don't blame me, Bucky told me that."
"I swear, Steven Grant Rogers, if you ever do this with our own kid and not tell me where they are and who they're with, I fucking swear I'll break your neck," Nat said, pointing her pointer finger to Steve's face.
Steve nodded, "I know, babe. Be safe, okay? Call me when you land."
After kissing his wife and hugging his godchild goodbye, Steve went to work. Meanwhile, it is 1:21pm on the clock and Natasha is freaking out about where and who she could leave Celeste with.
"Aunt Natty, can you do my hair?" Celeste spoke, pulling Natasha's attention from her phone to the child.
Natasha placed her phone down, beside her on the couch, and sat the little girl on her lap, facing her. "Okay ducky, how do you want it?"
Celeste pointed to her hair, "like your hair."
Nat smiled at the little version of you, "of course, ducky."
Braiding the hair of an excited Celeste is quite hard. She's very jumpy and talkative, always turning her head to look at Natasha who was behind her.
She'll never admit it, but Natasha sometimes imagines that her ducky, Celeste, is her own. She wants to have one soon but due to her career that's just getting started, she and Steve agreed to have one when she gets used to everything that comes with her career. But with Celeste being around all the time, it's getting harder to not want a baby.
Celeste is now getting annoyed with all the phone ringing wherever she goes. She looked at her Aunt with knitted eyebrows and a pout, trying to be mad but ended up looking all cute. "Look, ducky, it's your dad!" Natasha said, making Celeste smile and press the answer button herself.
"Hey Nat, is Celeste okay?"
"Yes, I am. Hi daddy!"
"Oh hey dolly! Are you having fun with Uncky Stevie and Aunt Natty?"
"Uncky Stevie left."
"Aww sorry sweetie. Daddy's also trying to work as fast as I can. Could you hand the phone to Aunt Natty?"
After handing the phone back to her Aunt, Natasha went to the kitchen so that she could be out of earshot. "Hey, I'm leaving for Paris soon."
It’s her 2nd time attending Paris Fashion Week, and she didn’t want to not be there. Natasha’s been looking forward to this all month, she even finished packing all of her bags after she received the news that she was going. The last thing she wanted to do is to not catch her plane.
"I know, ugh. I can't pick her up until 4. Could you please drive her to the diner, to Wanda? if Wanda is available. Y/N should be done with her errands at the diner."
"Yeah, I'll check. I'll drop her off on my way to the airport."
"Thanks Nat. And don't tell Y/N"
"Barnes, if you do this again to my godchild, I'll hunt you down and snap your neck, I swear."
"I won't, I promise."

After she messaged Wanda, Natasha started to put her bags out, making Celeste run to her Aunt and hug her legs. "don't leave me, Aunt Natty," Celeste started crying and soaking Natasha's pants.
Natasha, who was also tearing up, seeing her godchild like that, picked her up and wiped her tears. "Ducky, no. I'm not leaving you alone. We're going to see Aunt Wan's in the diner."
"Oh. Okay," Celeste started placing her things back in her backpack, still sniffling a little. Natasha snapped a quick photo of her adorable godchild.
A cab took the two to the diner. Natasha distracted the girl a bit so that Celeste wouldn't cry when she went.
When they arrived at the diner, it was full of customers. Natasha asks the cab driver to wait for a while for her. The waiters and waitresses greeted the two with a smile which Celeste excitedly returned. When she saw her Aunt Wanda, who was behind the counter, she ran to her and hugged her legs.
"Hi, Auntie Wanda!"
"Oh hey, Les! I love your braids!"
Celeste pointed to Nat, "Aunt Natty did them!"
Wanda nodded, giving the girl some fries she prepared for her. Natasha sat her up on a stool, not letting go of her.
"As you can see, I'm very busy," Wanda told Nat.
Natasha nodded, "Mhm, mhm. It's kinda hard to ignore. I really need to be at the airport right now though. Don't worry, Bucky said that he'll be able to pick her up by 4."
"Aunt Natty, you're leaving?" Celeste asked.
"Fine, I'll just call Pietro, maybe he's upstairs. have a safe flight." Wanda side-hugged Natasha.
Natasha grimaced, "I'm sorry, ducky. Aunt Natty has to be in Paris for a week. But I'll make sure to bring you something back, okay? Do you want some shoes and dresses?"
Celeste smiled and nodded excitedly, "yeah!"
"Then Aunt Natty will bring them to you when I get back, okay? I'll miss you, ducky."
Celeste hugged her Aunt, "I'll miss you too, Aunt Natty."
"Oh and don't tell Y/N, according to Bucky," Nat told Wanda.
"Oh if Vision ever did this--"
Nat smirked, "I know right?"
When Natasha left, Wanda made sure to stay at the counter so that she could see Celeste who was still on the stool. Celeste's a good company. She told her Auntie Wanda about all the games she would play with Billy and Tommy when she sees them again.
When Celeste was distracted with her milkshake, Wanda called her brother. "Pietro, why the hell won't you reply to my messages?"
"Sis it's midnight here...I think? What the hell, why are you calling?" Pietro replied, sleepily.
"Midnight? Where are you?"
"Japan."
"What?! Since when?"
"Since 3 months ago!"
"What?! How come I didn't know?"
"Because you don't actually read the messages I sent to you?"
"What? I so read them!"
"Really? Then why am I here?"
"Cause, you're vlogging," Wanda asked with a 'duh' tone
"I'm making a movie! See! You never read my messages!"
"Okay, maybe I haven't been paying attention a lot lately, but I need someone to babysit C right now so I have to go. I'll talk to you soon."
Pietro yawned, "mhm, kay."
She has a lot of questions for her brother right now, but she has to look for someone who can watch Celeste for one more hour.
"Maximoff!" someone yelled as they entered the glass door.
Wanda released a sigh of relief, "Sam! Thank goodness you're here!"
"No need to thank goodness, Wan. I just wanna have my usual to go. I'm still moving some things to my new place."
"Uncky Sam!" Celeste waved excitingly to her Uncle.
Sam walked up to her and carried her, "Hey C! Didn't know you're here."
"Yeah, Y/N's doing errands, Bucky had to go to work, then Steve had to go to work, then Nat had to go to Paris and now I have to work too," Wanda explained.
Celeste yawned, "can we play Uncky Sammy?"
"Aww Les, aren't you tired?" Sam asked, brushing her hair with his fingers.
Celeste shook her head and yawned again, "no, not tired, Uncky Sammy."
"Please watch her for a while. Bucky will be here at around 4, that's in an hour. I really need to get back to the kitchen," Wanda pleaded.
"But my girl's waiting for me in the apartment," Sam whined.
Celeste became teary-eyed for the nth time today, "you don't want to play with me, Uncky Sammy?"
Sam panicked, "what? I--No! Uncky Sammy wants to play with C! What do you wanna play?"
Wanda smirked, "well, Les, Auntie Wanda's gonna be in the kitchen okay? Do you want any food?"
Celeste smiled and shook her head, "thank you, Auntie Wanda."
Sam texted his girl to just come by the diner as well since he can't bring Celeste to their new apartment. It's still quite messy, besides, Boinky will be fetching her at the diner soon. See, it's moving day for Sam and his girlfriend of 1 year. They moved into a new apartment that is convenient for both of them which is close to both their jobs. so, for the whole day, they're just moving some stuff around and placing their things where they belong. Sam just dropped by the diner to get some food for the both of them.
He later joined Celeste in coloring, when his girl arrived and sat next to them on the stool. He even messed with the little girl, almost coloring something with the wrong color.
"No Uncky Sam! The sky is blue, not orange," Celeste laughed at her uncle who seems to not know colors.
Sam chuckled, "my bad, C. I thought this was blue," he said pointing to the orange crayon.
Celeste laughed again, "you're silly Uncky Sammy! That’s called orange."
After a few more Celeste & Uncky Sammy masterpieces, Celeste became tired, almost fell asleep while coloring. Sam carried her, so she could fall asleep on his shoulders instead of the table.
Sam saw Wanda walking back to the counter with Peter, "aww baby C! here, I can take her off your hands, Sam," Peter offered.
"Why didn't you come here sooner, kid?" Sam said, handing over a sleepy Celeste to Peter.
"Uncky Pete!" Celeste said sleepily, wrapping her arms around Peter's neck.
Once Peter was carrying her, he stroked her hair to make her fall asleep, "hey C," Peter said softly, "I'll bring you to the apartment, you can sleep on your mom's old bed."
Peter looked at Sam and Wanda, "you guys didn't tell me you need help babysitting. I've been staring at the ceiling all day."
"Yeah, it's a long story, just take her up," Wanda said, giving Celeste's backpack to Peter. "bye-bye Celeste. oh and Pete, don't tell Y/N." Peter nodded.
"Bye C, I'll see you again soon," Sam said softly before saying goodbye to the two and leaving with his girlfriend.
Peter took her to his apartment just above the diner. He put her down on your old bed gently and placed a blanket over the sleeping girl.
Peter decided to cook some early dinner for himself and his girlfriend MJ who will return from work soon. The two of them have been living together ever since you and Bucky moved out and they've been together for a few months longer. They were usually Celeste's babysitters so Peter was confused as to why Bucky didn't leave Celeste with him today.
The knock on his door pulled him out of his thoughts, so he opened it. "Peter, thank you so much for watching Celeste."
Bucky walked inside and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. "dude are you okay?" Peter asked his brother-in-law who was breathing heavily on his stool.
Bucky nodded, catching his breath, "there was no parking nearby so I parked by that bookstore and ran all the way here."
"That's like five blocks away."
"Trust me, I know." Bucky replied, still catching his breath, "so...where is she?"
Peter pointed to their old room, "sleeping."
Bucky went inside their old room to see his daughter who was stirring awake. "Daddy!"
"Hey, dolly. See? I'm back." Bucky said, opening his arms.
Celeste ran to her father to give him a tight hug, "I promised you some ice cream at the park today, didn't I?"
The little girl pulled away to nod her head, "you said I could have one in a cone!"
"Mhm! So why don't you go over there to your Uncky Pete and say thank you for taking care of you, okay?"
Celeste ran to her Uncle to give him a big hug. Peter carried her to kiss her cheek, "visit again soon, okay?" he said, making the girl nodded.
The father-daughter duo went back down to thank Wanda for watching Celeste. After that, they went to the park to get the ice cream her daddy had promised her. Bucky sat on the grass, while Celeste sat on her father's lap, telling him stories of what happened after he went.
"Then Aunt Natty did my hair like her hair!"
"Ahh, that's why it looks different!" Bucky said, acting surprised for his daughter.
He wiped some ice cream off her cheeks as she continued her story, "yeah! And she told me she will buy me dresses and shoes when she gets back!"
Bucky shook his head, chuckling, at the thought of his daughter being spoiled by her aunts and uncles. "Oh! And daddy, Auntie Wanda told me that I can play with Billy and Tommy next weekend!" she said while licking her ice cream.
"Scheduling your own playdates, huh, dolly?"
"It gets sad when you and mommy are away, daddy. Polly doesn't like playing with me," Celeste said, referring to her babysitter.
"Aww dolly, I'm sorry," Bucky said, wiping ice cream from her face.
Celeste nodded her head in understanding, "daddy, daddy."
"Yeah, dolly?"
"When Billy and Tommy are are both brothers. When can I have one?" Celeste looked up at her daddy with her big, innocent eyes.
"Well...do you want a brother or sister?" Bucky asked cautiously as Celeste nodded her head eagerly.
"Yes! Yes, daddy! I want a brother and sister!"
"Brother and sister huh?"
"Yes! so we can have a big happy family!" The little girl said, even doing some hand gestures, spreading her short arms as wide as she can, to make sure her dad gets her point.
"We can talk about that with mommy later," Bucky said, holding Celeste and carrying her as he stood up. "Now let's go home and make some dinner for mommy."
Celeste continued her story as Bucky drove home. He noticed how his daughter would repetitively say brother and sister, obviously not letting go of the idea.
When they arrived home, your car still wasn't in the garage. He and Celeste walked inside and started to get the ingredients of your favorite dinner out, which they planned to cook. With Bucky as the head chef and Celeste as the sous-chef, they were able to create the dish quite quickly and nicely.
"Ooooh! don't tell me that's mommy's favorite dish!" you said, smelling the air in your kitchen as you walked in.
"It is your favorite mommy!" Celeste said, running to you and jumping into your arms, making you carry her.
Errands day is always the most exhausting day of the month for you. You had to run from one building to another for a whole day. You always just look forward to seeing your daughter and husband in your house, just like every day.
"Okay! It's finished! And I've already prepared the table too. So all you have to do is eat," Bucky said, walking over to you and your daughter. He kissed your cheek and hugged the both of you while he's still in his apron.
Bucky carried the grocery bags you brought inside and placed them on the counter temporarily. He pulled your designated seat for you and Celeste too.
"Aww Bucky, this looks so good!" you told Bucky as you got some food on your plate.
Bucky hummed, "well of course it looks good! Celeste helped me make them!"
You looked at your daughter who was nodding proudly, "yes mommy! Daddy couldn't have done it without me!"
You laughed, "yes, honey, I couldn't have done it without you. But where did you learn that phrase?" Bucky asked.
Celeste shrugged, "movie."
"So what else did you do with daddy today?" you asked as you ate.
"I played dragons, dinosaurs, and princesses with daddy! And I won! Then we watched a movie, then-"
Bucky cleared his throat, "why don't you tell mommy about a brother and sister, dolly?"
You shot Bucky a confused look, "what?"
Looking at your daughter, she seemed excited. "Mommy! I want brothers and sisters!"
You coughed, almost spitting out the food you were chewing. "...What?"
"Can I have a brother and sister? Please mommy?" she asked with her adorable pout and puppy dog eyes.
"You really want siblings, baby?"
"Yeah! like Billy and Tommy!"
"Your dad and I have to talk about it first."
"But I'm ready to be a big sister now, mommy! I promise! I'll be good, and I'll play with them all the time! And I can share my food too and my toys!"
You nodded, still a bit confused as to why you're having this conversation. "I know you are, baby. You're gonna be a great big sister!"
The rest of dinner, the three of you...well more like just Celeste, talked about having siblings. You tried to stir the conversation in another way but your daughter can't seem to let go of the topic.
After cleaning up in the kitchen and dining room, you took Celeste to the bathroom to wash her. You could tell she's getting quite tired but that didn't stop her from talking more about her future siblings.
"I get to tuck her in tonight since you already spent the whole day with her," you told Bucky.
Bucky agreed, feeling quite nervous. He knows that his daughter could talk and rat him out. He's guessing, maybe Celeste won't get those siblings after his wife finds out what happened today.
Celeste gave her dad a hug and kiss good night before you and her went to her room. Once you dimmed the lights, you tucked her in her bed.
"So, C. You didn't finish telling me about your day with daddy," you asked her.
Celeste is a very talkative girl. And of course, you knew that, so you prepared yourself to hear every single detail of her day.
And so she told you her whole day. Every. Single. Detail.
"Your daddy did what?"

Chapter Nine - Come Back To Me
Present.
Loki runs his fingers through Y/N’s hair as she lays on his bed, sleeping off the remainder of the intoxication. Stephen assessed her moments ago, though the altered scent alone indicative of the drugs that are still in her system.
The letter written in her blood sits heavy in his pocket. The scent unfamiliar, but the vampire had watched them. Watched Y/N.
Loki needed to know what made her get into the allure of narcotics. She could have wanted temporary distraction? How had she become an addict?
Guilt breaks through him. If he would not have left he could have protected her earlier. Kept her safe, and not have broken the heart that she trusted him to keep.
Thor enters the room, a hesitance laced in his movements, “Brother, please do not react without thinking.”
The younger sibling’s eyebrows furrow in confusion then in anger.
“You brought them here?” It takes everything in him not to pull away from Y/N to lunge at Thor for bringing the three witch coven members into the house.
“They may have a theory.” Thor attempts to explain.
“So based on a whim of theirs you bring them into my home? Seriously brother what goes on in that buffoonery fuelled head of yours!” His voice rises in crescendo, red rims surround his green irises.
“Brother.” Thor warns glancing at Y/N.
“Do not test me.” Loki counters, covering Y/N with more of himself.
“I do understand that you are feeling overly protective. The coven has been invited by Nia who holds an extension of my own will, we do not have to agree with them but they may know what is happening.” Thor attempts once again.
“I will only when she wakes.” The red dissolves back to bring forth the green. Thor’s heterochromia gaze moves between the two mates.
“We need to act fast Loki you have done enough of your whims.” Thor knows he’s taunting and provoking his brother.
“My whims? Let me remind you you’re the one who proposed killing off our dear father first. You’re the one who got your mate. You are the one who agreed with Zemo’s plan. Y/N is a witch, we knew but her belonging to the celestial coven complicates things.”
“Yet I had to put forth the plan of having the bond weakened by another coven’s magick. No matter how horrible it was for the both of us. So that she would stay protected lest Alexander found her because you are incapable of taking care of anyone but your mate. Because Thor, you thought it was best to keep her as a pawn in this little chess game you have been playing.” Loki seethes.
“I was not alone in agreement of the plan.” Thor yells back his blue and brown irises surrounded by red rims as his fangs descend.
“But you initiated it, signed off upon it.” Loki spits out.
“You did what to our bond?” Y/N’s hauntingly cold voice breaks the angered stupor that grips at Loki.
“Y/N…” He pinches the bridge of his nose, “This it’s—, it is very much a complicated set of occurrences.”
“I believe she has a right to know.” Thor interjects.
“You, you, is this, some kind of grand game?” Y/N sits up moving away from her mate.
“Alexander is a dangerous man further, a dangerous vampire.” Loki begins to make her understand.
“Was there another way without you leaving?” There is a sway in her movements as she creates distance between herself and the vampire brothers.
Loki looks towards Thor, the elder brother sighs and then nods.
“You didn’t leave Nia.” Y/N accuses, bearing no ill towards her best friend.
“Our bond was fully established.” Thor says simply.
“So what, your brother is skeptical about soulmates and you just thought to run with it by putting the two involved souls through hell? I felt like dying each moment he was apart from me. I confided in you each moment and you knew.” Y/N’s voice interlaced with betrayal.
“Y/N, look in the grander scheme of things, this,” Thor ponders for the right words.
“You were too selfish to give up your own bond.” Y/N suggests, a venomous undertone to them.
“Yes and no.” Thor answers then looks toward Loki.
“Zemo, the vampire who attacked you the night of the party…” Loki prompts his mate.
“The party you erased, there was another vampire as well.” Y/N completes with a distaste in her mouth.
“We spoke in detail about a plan that exists to take down Alexander Pierce. It had several road blocks, he has an ability to know what could be the potential gifts a human can bring across their vampire change. Certain witches were spared for their talent, others because they were mates of the vampires in the coven.”
“However one witch coven is hated by Alexander because they have survived erasure time and time again. Yours.” Loki takes an unnecessary breath.
Nia opens the door, her eyes first on Thor who gives her a look of reassurance.
“If our bond was complete I would have to turn you.” Loki informs her realising she may have not heard everything he said during her astral form minutes.
“How has Nia not been turned?” Y/N looks at the two mates.
“Blood exchanges need to happen everyday from a full moon to a new moon. Basically second half of the lunar cycle.” Nia explains, “I’ve been having his blood for the first half.”
“Did you know about this?” Y/N looks at her best friend.
“He told me in the car, what the plan was, why Loki did what he did. Why he left you.” Nia looks sombre.
“It seems Thor has left out some details.” Loki mutters quietly.
“So you agree with me being used as a pawn?” Y/N bellows at her best friend from her place.
“Damn thats some fucked up shit.” Sierra comments from the first floor the conversation clear as day to be heard. Doctor Strange looks at her.
“What, you need to be honest.” She shrugs.
“I believe that lesson needs to be learned by your own coven as well.” Doctor Strange sneers.
“I do not agree to that, but it keeps you safe from a conversion and it aids in the process.” Nia hesitates, “The last witch to be granted immortality from your coven was Luna, because of her gift of prophecy.”
“Nia.” Y/N tries to understand.
“If you aren’t deemed worthy, bonded or not, he would end you.” Loki tells her point blank.
“Why could you not have been honest?” Her eyes brim with tears, why was he always so closed off? Why could he never just share his burdens with her?
“You’re supposed to be my mate. I, we could have navigated this better.” Y/N accuses him.
Loki closes his eyes at the heartache that laces her words, “I know. I did not want to burden you.”
“While you held my burdens?” She sniffles, the ache for more substances scratches at her chest.
Loki stays quiet.
“I, I need to go home— I—, this is, all, is too much.” Y/N turns to move past Nia as she descends the stairs.
“We pushed for your bond to weaken to awaken your witch side.” Miles tells her as she comes into view.
“The bond suppressed it, if it would have been established chances are we would not have had to put you under that much duress.” He continues much to her dismay.
Y/N turns her teary eyed face to them.
“Am I just some kind of fucking pawn? Vampire ruins the bond to protect, my coven uses to have strength, random vampire makes me his drugged up blood bag?” Her voice is hoarse, “Can’t any of you be honest? Upfront? I would understand better help better, but no you,” She turns to Clark, “You’d rather my bond shatter.”
She faces Loki and Thor who stand upon the steps, “You two would rather play with the bond, toy with my heart. Pretend to be my confidant and then just break my trust over and over.”
She turns to Stephen, he raises an eyebrow.
“I just gave you homework.” He raises both hands in defence.
“He’s at least honest.” Y/N gestures to Stephen.
The baby witch makes her way to the door but it does not budge.
“You’ve been exposed to drugs.” Miles does not lower his raised arm.
“And?” Y/N crosses her arms.
“Those weaken your witch sense as well.” Clark concluded.
“Thor was right.” Nia exclaims, “We were right.” Thor intertwines their hands.
Loki’s eyes widen, he appears in a blur near Y/N.
“The vampire left a note again.” Loki presents the note out of his pocket.
“Is that…” Sierra looks at Y/N.
“It is in my blood.” She affirms to the more practiced witch.
A possessiveness pulses across the bond, as everyone reads the contents of the note.
The young witch goes over her scarce memories of her highs, most would be muddled and one she left untouched— the forest.
She never noticed any puncture wounds before and they only started upon Loki’s return.
These notes the message left on the wall and the note both had an undertone of a deeper rivalry or mocking of Loki and his inability to keep her safe. Or rather mocking his way of keeping her safe.
What if this rogue vampire wasn’t a rogue at all?
Y/N’s eyes widen, they search for Loki’s comforting green.
“I, I have a theory.” She states and the collective group looks at her curiously. Hunger sears her stomach.
“I need something to eat though.” A light dust of red coats her cheeks.
Loki returns with a paper-bag housing her favourite order from the local diner. The human and vampire pair enjoy the brief appearance of the stars across their bond.
Thor and Nia settle on the loveseat the latter upon Thor’s lap more than the seat.
Miles, Clark and Sierra sit on the couch and Stephen sits on the lone leather chair.
Loki and Y/N sit in their designated spot on the L portion of the worn down couch side by side.
“How long have you been practicing?” Stephen questions the coven, in a bid to offer some time to Y/N to eat.
There is a tremor in her hands and Loki takes over holding the takeout box.
“We do not divulge coven dynamics.” Miles smoothly replies before his husband is irked.
“Alright, when was the awakening?” Strange counters.
“Mine began at fourteen,” Sierra smiles, Clark groans, Miles places a comforting hand on his thigh.
“Always was into the whole mystic aspects of things, also I knew something was up when I started being able to see the spirits my dogs would bark at back home.” She completes.
“Ooh which kind of puppers did you have?” Nia grins, always ready to speak about the sweet little creatures.
“One was a mutt adopted him off of the mall parking lot named him Mustard, there is a whole story he would not leave without this unopened bottle of mustard; and the other was a doberman— Boba both passed away a few years ago, sadly.” Sierra presses her lips into a thin line but then smiles fondly at the memories of the sweet creatures who stood by her family and her.
“I’m sorry.” Nia frowns, Thor rubs a comforting hand over her back.
“No, no, talking about them makes me happy.” Sierra smiles at the pair, “When did you two bond?”
“We met at the local gym, I was doing cardio and Thor is a personal trainer there.” Nia grins looking up at her mate.
“And this one here lost her footing, and I helped her up.” Thor brushes his nose against Nia’s own.
Both have love struck smiles on their faces.
“When is the change due?” Sierra concentrates and can see tiny golden suns orbiting around them, “Oh you have tiny suns!”
“You can see them?” All the vampires look bewildered.
“We can even see bond lines, Sierra here has a particular interest in bonds, vampiric or non vampiric.” Miles gives her a proud look.
“I do, I used to well still do online tarot readings for the collective from time to time. Most part I’m a paediatric nurse.” Sierra proudly beams.
“That is amazing.” Y/N praises, her food portion half eaten, slowly the air turns serious as they wait for her to find the words to put forth the theory.
Y/N stares at the pattern on the coffee table, she would laugh if she could since this was the third replacement that was brought in by Thor and Nia.
“I believe that these two incidents of me being forced to consume narcotics aren’t isolated. Maybe the fact that I do not remember a lot of the highs isn’t to do with well, just the drugs.” She takes a deep breath and Loki takes her freehand into his own, steadying the newfound tremor.
“I, I think this vampire whoever they are, might be working for Alexander Pierce. Or they know I’m a witch or they know I’m Loki’s mate and they have a plot of revenge. Or they just want tainted blood.” Y/N completes.
Loki’s own mind races to think of people whom he has wronged but the list of the ones left alive in Alexander’s name is short.
Thor purses his lips, “It is a plausible theory.” He agrees.
“However deranged rouges, they do prey upon half abandoned mates. This could even be a one off taunt.” Stephen adds.
“The marks are staying visible for me to see, so the vampire is keeping tabs on my whereabouts.” Loki gazes apologetically at his mate.
“It is a messed up situation.” Y/N attempts at comfort rubbing circles over his palm with her thumb.
“Which concludes he is not working alone.” Stephen adds.
“They also have a witch or warlock.” Clark speaks for once contributing to the discussion, “The Vampire Weave is not an easy feat to achieve.”
“This is a seasoned witch or warlock.” Miles agrees.
“But who would help a vampire?” Clark makes his patented dissatisfied expression.
“Compliance.” Nia sits up straighter adding onto the fact, “Y/N knew Loki altered her memory, he’s keeping a warlock or witch between them. So she can’t remember. Cause the witchy side would block the vampire compliance.” She adds.
“This adds proof this is not some baby witch or warlock.” Sierra ponders,
“If we teach you before the next attack, the witch or warlock will have to come into physical contact with you for the spell to work, you could counter it and break the hold the vampire has on them.”
“She is not going to be left alone to be subjected to non-consensual narcotics usage.” Loki’s free hand balls into a fist adding to his adamance.
“You still need to be trained. In the event he is locked into a weave.” Miles adds for Loki to see the logic.
“You know the laws of our kind Loki, you cannot hold back a witch or warlock from training in their craft. It must be their decision.” Clark reminds Loki of an old rule.
Y/N watches the High Priest and her mate have a stare down competition.
“I want to train. I need to be able to protect the ones I care about and myself.” Y/N speaks voicing her thoughts.
Loki presses his lips into a thin line, displeased.
“Fine then.” Clark stands, “Bring your grandmother’s grimoire tomorrow, also search for Samana’s grimoire and we need to begin your own first. Bring in a notebook then Sierra will teach you how to make your grimoire. I presume your mate will stand guard?”
“You presume correct.” Loki sneers.
“You must stay outside the perimeter.” Clark warns.
“Your coven isn’t strong enough.” Loki taunts then falls to his knees as do Thor and Stephen. Their faces blank, forms unmoving.
“What are you doing to them? Stop it!” Nia screams in panic, trying to shake Thor out of the forced upon trance.
Y/N grabs onto Loki’s hunched over form. Then gazes worriedly at Stephen.
“This is just my skill level, I have Miles and Sierra.”  Clark smiles, “You can hear everything, the panicked voice of your mate and friends, the dread, while all other senses remain deprived.”
“Clark.” Y/N turns to him, “Please, enough.” She pleads.
The High Priest lowers his raised palm.
Loki glares up at him, the stars move through Y/N’s side of the bond to his, Loki places his hand upon hers which rests on his chest.
“That was something.” Stephen stands cleaning his clothing of any stray lint.
“Indeed.” Thor breathes in deeply, pulling Nia close to quell her worries placing a soft kiss against her lips.
Miles and Sierra stand, both move to hug Y/N goodbye.
Sierra requests Y/N to meet her in the event she does resume duty at the hospital, provided Stephen clears her for the same due to the narcotics in her system.
The coven clears out. Clark gives them a final glance before turning away.
“I must commend Thor, blood sharing having to just have synchronous with the lunar cycle.” Stephen observes, though his tone feels akin to a jab at Thor.
“Stephen.” Loki says in warning.
“Its true though, why did you have to sacrifice your bond into smithereens? Just because you were skeptical?” Stephen raises his hands as if in question.
In a blur Thor has Stephen against the wall.
“I did not make him do it. It was the best option given the circumstances.” Thor spits out at Stephen.
“It was the way most convenient to you. Where did that leave Y/N? In Narcotics Anonymous.” Stephen yells back.
“When her mate had no issues I think you should stay in your place.” Thor seethes.
“Loki will you open your mouth or should I continue?” Stephen’s ablaze red rimmed blue eyes turn to Loki, Y/N looks up at her mate questioningly.
“You did not even care for her. You both did not,” Loki speaks after a breath of silence.
“We cleaned up after each mess of hers, if she weaselled her way out each time that is not upon us. Because you were gone.” Thor glares as he turns toward his younger brother.
Loki takes a step back as though wounded, “You forced me to leave.”
“Cleaned up after me?” Y/N knows her face betrays her hurt, she tries masking it, Thor had been an elder brother of comfort through the mess as he put it, he turns to look at Nia.
“It was hard upon us as well to watch you in that manner.” Is all Nia says, fiddling with her ring clad fingers.
“Caregivers often bear the brunt, however she was under compulsion. You could have protected her better.” Stephen interjects.
“As could you.” Thor speaks with retaliation.
“And I did on each placement of her under my care, I did.” Stephen presses the back of his right hand into his left palm the sound of skin against skin adding emphasis.
“Can we actually believe that theory or is that just an excuse?” Nia meant to mumble it under her breath, the chill that took over the room sent a shiver up Y/N’s spine.
Loki looked at his mate’s best-friend.
“It is true, Thor could have protected her better, yes maybe we took the easy way out as vampires, I was skeptical about the bond but I was skeptical about the plan as well. Have it in your heart and mind to speak the truth or should I extract it myself? Did you give even fifty percent of effort of protection to my mate?” The younger brother looks at his elder brother.
Thor looks to Nia, then at his brother, then at Y/N.
“You could have told him to return if you couldn’t handle the responsibility.” Y/N murmurs, there still was so much to unpack from the conversation and if anything that was given to her only brought forth a craving to just consume more for the numbness.
“He did not want me to return.” Loki says as though something dawned upon him, “Is that why you never alerted me about the OD, about the forest attack?” His voice raised, in demand, venom pricks at the corners of his eyes.
Thor stays silent. Y/N gazes at Nia questioningly.
“You told me he did not care enough to return.” Nia accuses Thor.
“He was supposed to stay away for another month. In the end you craved your mate did you not? After all those talks about disregarding your chance at love and eternal affection.” Thor sneers.
“You’re behaving just like Odin. I say one thing and you hold that against me, expecting me not to learn or be educated and change my opinion or stance.” Loki looks down at the hand that Y/N wraps around his arm to provide comfort. The stars pass between them.
“I am nothing like Odin.” Thor presses, red rims appearing to further his anger.
“I think it is best we dismiss this conversation.” Stephen interjects, knowing the topic of their human father was one that still brought about bitter memories.
“Oh thats rich first gaslight then dissipate.” Nia narrows her eyes at the doctor.
“At least I don’t disregard my best friend’s trouble with being forced to consume drugs!” Stephen wants to leave the air here getting too much to warrant peaceful responses anymore.
Y/N tilts her head, seeing an iridescent tinge of orange in the air surrounding them. It stays present for a flash then disappears appearing near Thor.
“He has nothing better to do, he was tossed away. Left for dead by townspeople. Only supports the vampire who took him in from the streets.” Thor seethes as he adds agreement with Nia.
The orange gleam shifts edging towards Loki and herself, she pushes Loki’s chest and they duck.
“The fuck are you doing?” Nia raises an eyebrow, “Is this some new response to some drug? Or is it a witch thing?”
“Can someone contact Sierra?” Y/N questions, her eyes focus upon the dancing gleam, her wonders if it can be slowed down to a stop.
She keeps her vision steady, imagining a thick sludge surrounding the gleam to slow it down before it reaches Stephen.
The doctor dials the number of the nurse, she answers after a few rings.
“Whats wrong?” The curly haired witch questions over the call.
“Y/N is staring at thin air…” Stephen tries to explain.
“Put her on speaker.”
Stephen appears next to her, holding the phone as it remains on speaker.
“What are you seeing?” Is her immediate question, “describe it don’t lose focus.”
“Iridescent but orange, bouncing around.” The baby witch explains.
“Are you all having an argument or heated discussion suddenly?” The vampires and Nia look at each other in surprise.
“Yes.” Y/N answers for them.
“Well that is another little gift Clark left, you all need to leave the room, that is a self sabotage spell, since its iridescent the effect will wear off if the room clears. Listen Y/N I know how difficult this all is but you will have to prove yourself to Clark. What you did today with the astral meeting that showcases your skill but refining your craft will only be the way to stay in control.” Sierra offers advice hoping it encourages the new witch.
“I understand, I am ready to put in my share of hard work. Also, um. Is it possible to slow it down? The orange thingy?” Her eyes remain on the said object.
“While it is possible to stop it from going further I’d suggest not wasting energy, get it out of the way but everyone leave the room for the next one to two hours just to be safe.” Sierra suggests, receiving a collective reply of affirmative responses the call is brought to a close.
Thor and Nia move to leave to the upstairs rooms.
Stephen waits near his car outside.
Loki wraps his arm around Y/N’s waist, she doesn’t break focus on the orb, as her mate uses his speed to move them backward and out of the house.
“I will see you tomorrow, OPD paperwork only.” Stephen ruefully tells her, she sighs then accepts.
“I know you were benched long enough but this…” Stephen lets the sentence hang in the air between the three of them. He bids the two goodbye, getting into the driver’s seat.
Loki presses his lips to her temple, “Home?”
Y/N nods, intertwining their hands as her leads her, to the familiar Mercedes.
The vampire opens the door for his mate then speeds into the driver’s seat.
“We have much to talk about.” Loki addresses the unspoken thought as the car is turned into ignition.
“We do, but at home… right now I just want to be with you.” Y/N requests and Loki meets her eyes, they still remain bloodshot but in lesser intensity.
“As you please.” Loki reaches for her hand out of habit, across the console, resting over her thigh, their fingers intertwined

Fourteen Months Ago.
“Where are you taking me?” Y/N has a smile on her face as she adjusts the phone to reach up to the top shelf for the Nutella jar.
“Somewhere.” Loki smiles sitting outside the dean’s office for the upcoming literature symposium the university would be hosting.
Y/N huffs, partly at the jar and partly at Loki.
“I thought you would be happy.” Loki teases.
“I am, but I can’t seem to grab this jar.” Y/N stares at the Nutella, wishing it would levitate.
“Nutella?” He enquires, a fondness grows within his chest. Y/N smiles at the sudden warmth. She hums in agreement, wishing he was there to reach up for it.
“Kinda wish you were here with me.” She sighs, it had been two weeks since their moment in the bookstore’s cafe.
“Why?” Loki knows she probably wants him to reach up for the jar.
“So you could get me this jar.” Y/N still gazes longingly before moving to the next aisle.
“Darling, here I thought you were dating me for me.” His voice is light and full of mirth.
“Nope, I just need your very tall limbs to get me things from the top shelves.” Y/N goes along with the humour.
“I’m wounded.” Loki feigns sadness but can’t help the laughter that rumbles in his chest.
Y/N giggles, switching the side of the phone.
“Do you need anything?” She asks mindlessly pushing the cart.
“Just you.” Loki breathes, allowing himself to relish and enjoy the fact that he has a mate, consciously throwing the meddling thoughts away instead of harbouring them.
“Professor I believe I’m quite the priciest item here.” Y/N brings in the playfulness again, his words stirring something deep within her at being wanted.
“I’m sure I could come up with a sum worthy of you alas, these numbers cease at the feat of your beauty and intellect.” He admits, and she feels a cacophony of stars trickle towards her, the sudden sound of metal clanging worries him.
“I’m okay just crashed into the yogurt fridge.” She grumbles lightly before righting the fallen items.
Loki bites back his smile picturing her reddened cheeks and expression. He adjusts the papers he holds with the files, fidgeting every few minutes to keep up his human façade.
As Y/N arranges the items a softer happiness makes itself present within her at the openness he displayed the past week.
It was not a vast ocean of being open with her but he tried. For her sake. That was enough for her to know he could and would try for her.
“Hey, I’m back, reporting live from the averted accident in aisle 20, yogurt and soy milk.” Y/N laughs, Loki chuckles.
“Any casualties?” The professor looks up at the dean’s assistant who gestures for him to head inside.
“Well does my bruised ego count? Or the indented pack of pudding cups Thor seems to love.” Y/N reports back, reading the labels of the hot sauces for Nia’s preference.
“Well for the bruising I’d recommend waiting till I pick you up. I believe my lips will know what to do.” Loki gathers his laptop bag, the bond willing him not to say goodbye as it glows happily between them.
“You still won’t tell me? Also no kisses for Lokis who withhold information.” Y/N will stomp her foot as does a tantrum throwing child, she will.
“Would it be a surprise if I did?” Loki chides.
“At least tell me the dress code.” Y/N pleads.
“I believe comfortable should do.” Loki whiles away the time, the dean could wait.
“What are you wearing?” She enquires that would give her a better hint.
“An oxford button down and slacks.” He answers recalling the light blue shirt he picked out for their date that hangs in his office.
“So it is okay if I don’t wear a dress right?” Y/N hesitates, dresses though nice weren’t always her first choice of clothing.
“Darling, I believe what you wore when you accompanied your friend to meet my brother should work.” Loki admits,
“Oh the cream sweater?” She recalls, Loki hums in agreement, the assistant returns once more hands on his hips giving Loki a pointed and impatient look.
“Yes, also I have my appointment with the Dean, I’m sorry to cut the conversation short. I will speak with you soon.” Loki apologises.
“Oh no its, alrig—,” The line cuts and Y/N sighs, “its alright.” She repeats more for herself.
She does a once over for all the items in the cart, matching them with her list proceeding to the check out.
“So how is Romania treating the great history buff?” The woman in front of Y/N speaks a little loudly.
“Really? Wow, didn’t think anything surprised the intuitive Mr. Bucky Barnes.” The woman laughs in response and Y/N feels the air leave her lungs.
How many Bucky Barnes-es could exist in this universe?
The checkout aisle next to her opens up Y/N recedes to that one. Trying not to focus on the conversation.
But the short-haired woman’s laughter keeps following through and the number of jokes just keep flowing.
Y/N grits her teeth, so Bucky blocked her out. Did not bother contacting her but kept in touch with someone else. So maybe she wasn’t the only one who didn’t have feelings.
“Cash or Credit?” The cashier enquires palm raised to take whichever mode of payment chosen.
Y/N hands her the credit card, loading up the groceries as the transaction is completed.
“Oh Bucky, come on, just do it. What is holding you back?” The woman encourages, she’s on the same stage of shopping as herself.
Y/N grabs the card swiftly not wanting to hear more about Bucky. He could do whatever he wanted. Talk to anyone. Why does she care?
As she’s loading the groceries in her car, the same short-haired woman approaches her, “Hey are you, Y/N?”
“Um, yes…” Y/N trails off hesitantly.
“Oh great I caught you, here you left this on the counter the cashier recalled your name from the system. I’m Maria Hill.” Maria smiles as she hands the hastily forgotten bag to Y/N.
“Oh um, thank you.” She says, placing it with the others.
“Um, I don’t mean to pry…” Y/N regrets the words as she says them, “Were you speaking to James Barnes?” She fiddles with the zipper on her jacket.
Yep Y/N thinks, Maria must be creeped out.
“Oh um yeah, he is a PhD candidate as I am, left for some personal work so I like to keep him updated so he can keep up and not turn into a slow poke.” Maria grins, “Though I’m going to beat him to it but it’s no fun without healthy competition, do you know him?” The brunette waits for a response.
“He was in creative writing with me, he left quite suddenly, just haven’t had the chance to talk. Maybe he switched numbers, but I’m happy to know he’s okay.” Y/N offers a smile,
“I have to rush, it was nice meeting you Maria.” Y/N gives her a wave before quickly sitting in her vehicle and leaving Maria eyes wide as she connects the dots.
She brings back attention to her ongoing call with Bucky, he had heard everything due to the headphones Maria wore.
“You did not give her your number?!” Maria yells at him.
“It, it was better that way.” Bucky winces as he explains.
“Come on dude so what if the date thing didn’t work, at least you will have a friend, she will have a friend!” She groans.
“Maria can we discuss something or someone else?” Bucky pleads stirring the conversation away from Y/N.
— — — —
Loki smoothens his coat’s lapels, as he stood waiting outside Y/N’s home. His occupied hand holds a bouquet of daffodils. He smiles at the flowers, knowing they would be appreciated.
Y/N opens the door, with one hand trying to fix her earring with the other smiling brightly at Loki.
“Hello.”
“Hi.”
They both smile sheepish and then laugh.
“You can come inside, I just need to fix this—,” Y/N huffs again as the earring still does not stay in place.
“May I help?” Loki offers, she looks at him then nods.
Her eyes fall onto the flowers,
“These are for you, darling.” Loki hands her the bouquet, promptly taking the earring from her.
“Thank you.” Y/N smiles at the flowers.
“I know I don’t know your favourite flower yet. But I believe these,” Loki pauses, as Y/N sniffles.
“I, Did I do something to upset you?” Loki worriedly gazes at her.
“I just remembered what you said, about these, what the daffodils signify. Now, we’re about to go on our first date… Just you putting in the thought. I know its stupid to get emotional over this—,”
“Hey, no, no, you are not stupid for getting emotional, I myself teared up when I saw the florist put them together.” Loki knows how the venom feels when it pools over his eyes.
“Thank you.” Y/N hugs him, Loki rests his cheek upon her head, arms wrapping around her frame. The warmth of her skin seeping through his clothing onto his own.
“You’re welcome.” Loki softly inhales her scent, letting it wash over him. Her blood did have an allure to him, but only because mates were to share blood in order to prepare for the inevitable conversion.
The way her scent called to him right now, he was glad he had fed from blood-bags before arriving.
Loki relaxes his hold when Y/N initiates pulling away from the hug. Still holding the flowers tenderly in her arms and smiling at them. Loki adores her, tucking this moment away for himself.
“May I?” Loki requests, holding the earring up; she shifts so he can place the earring.
Goosebumps break out across her skin as his knuckles ghost over her as he places the earring, his breath softly fans across her cheek.
Loki places the earring his knuckles trace along her jaw, resting under her chin.
Y/N tilts her head back at Loki’s prompting meeting his gaze. She feels the stars bloom around them, twinkling brightly.
“May I?” Loki questions once again, his lips inching closer to her own.
“Yes.” Y/N breathes out, softly.
His lips find her warm ones, they mould together. Eyes closed, the stars cascade merrily.
Loki pulls her closer, Y/N places her hands upon his shoulders as the kiss deepens.
Y/N’s right hand inches upward along the side of his neck towards his hair. Loki hums in the kiss, his hand moving along her spine pressing her closer. Their chests touch, Loki knows he’s pushing his luck, there is only so much control he can keep when they are like this, she tugs on his hair while she lightly nips at his bottom lip.
Loki knows his primal instincts are taking over, he pushes her against the wall, wrapping her legs around his waist and supporting all of her weight.
His tongue moves across her kiss bitten bottom lip as she parts her lips for him, her scent fills his senses. Heady, addicting and absolutely ethereal.
Loki knows his eyes are red rimmed, the bond glows brightly. Y/N’s fingers tangle in his hair and legs tighten around his hips.
His hands roam over her sides, his fangs begin to descend as she tugs on his hair wanton sounds of need spilling from her lips unto his.
Their lips part and Loki lays kisses over her exposed neck, he holds her up with one hand and something about his strength sets a heat ablaze within Y/N.
Loki, pulls down the sweater, small nips and kisses over her collar bones, he keeps his eyes closed.
“Loki, Loki, Loki.” His name spills from her as a fervent prayer.
The bond speaking through her begging Loki to establish it completely.
When he reaches her sternum, Loki freezes.
Y/N opens her eyes, heat blooming all over skin, the stars surrounding their bodies.
“Loki?” She cups his cheek, worry takes over her.
“I’m okay.” He takes an inhale, eyes closed, he places his forehead against hers.
“Why did you stop?” Her hand nervously fiddles with the collar of his oxford shirt.
“I, I want to do right by you. This, I enjoyed, there is not doubt in that, if I could, I’d have my lips on your skin till the world ended, but I don’t want you to think that I only want your body.” He opens his eyes, sincere green greets Y/N.
“I’d—, Loki, you never gave me that impression.” Y/N assures, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, “I though, maybe I did something wrong or something you did not enjoy.” She admits, a blush taking over her face.
Loki’s eyes widen, “Love, you did nothing wrong I quite enjoyed those sinfully addictive sounds you made for me. Also, if you do not enjoy something I am doing you need to tell me, we have to communicate our likes and dislikes always; just not at one point. This doesn’t just stop at the physical aspects of our courtship.” He places another kiss against her lips.
Y/N smiles, “Sometimes you sound as though from another era.”
A momentary panic surges through the vampire.
“I guess that would be because of all the Shakespeare and poetry you’ve read and immersed into.” She adds with a small laugh, her fingers run through his hair trying to tame the tresses she caused to mess up.
“Are you making fun of me, Ms. Y/L/N?” Loki playfully narrows his eyes, his tone stern.
“Why no, Sir, I would never dare.” Y/N feigns innocence, “Just maybe a little.” Her giggle is caught in her throat as Loki’s fingers begin to tickle her sides and she breaks into laughter.
“Loki!”
“Y/N!”
Their laughters intertwine, echoing in the room.
Once they make themselves presentable again for the outside world, Loki and Y/N are divided by the S-Class’ console. Elbows nearly touching.
An excitement cascades from Y/N to Loki through the now stronger bond.
Loki smiles, “I hope you enjoy what I have planned.”
“If you tell me, I promise to be more excited than I already am, pinky promise.” Y/N bargains.
Loki taps his index finger over his lips, as though in deep thought.
He looks at her while switching the lanes, “Nope.”
Her annoyance amuses him, he laughs much to her chagrin. Y/N rolls her eyes looking out the window, annoyed.
“Darling,” Loki says, she doesn’t look at him.
“Love.” He attempts again, with failure.
He huffs, reaching over and grabbing her hand, intertwining their fingers over the console. Y/N pulls his hand back towards her, the back of his hand rests on her thigh.
“Is that a smile I see?” He teases.
“Give me a hint, I’ll give you a kiss.” Y/N pouts.
“Oh come on now that is extortion.” Loki accuses. Y/N just shrugs.
“We’re almost there.” Loki points out.
“We drove an hour into London.”
“Are you trying to deduce where we are going?” Loki smiles at her focused expression, the furrow in her brow reminds him of her in class.
“Wait, did—, what if we’re seen?” She panics, Loki meets her with a calming gaze.
“It is a weekday, the place will probably only have tourists. Although I’ve booked a private thirty minutes.” He assures, smiling only when she calms down.
Loki pulls into the parking building near Tate Modern, London. Y/N curiously follows Loki’s lead as he navigates through the floors to get to their destination.
He doesn’t let her even see what installations are being presented, showing the tickets discreetly to the security as they wait in a corridor. A gentle older woman comes out a corner door greeting Loki.
“You can go in, it’s just been cleared.” She informs him, greeting Y/N with a smile as well.
“Thank you.” Loki offers the woman a smile.
“Oh one more thing.” Loki turns to Y/N, “I want you to keep your eyes closed till we are inside.”
“Loki… Fine.” Y/N only agrees when he pouts and it is too adorable to say no to him.
The vampire beams brightly, covering her eyes with a blindfold. Y/N holds onto his hands and hears the quiet hinges of the door opening and Loki leads her for about fifteen steps.
His footsteps echo in the quiet room, as he stands behind her. She takes a deep breath as he undoes the blindfold. Taking a few steps back to admire her reaction.
Y/N opens her eyes, blinking a few times, her jaw then drops. She is surrounded by an infinity of small lights that are mirrored all around herself and Loki.
Tiny blue, yellowish and green lights seemingly akin to stars, she turns attempting to find Loki to hold him close to take in this moment with him.
Loki smiles at her elation that he sees and feels within himself.
Y/N moves to him, closing the gap he put between them.
“Loki this, it is, beautiful, ethereal even, as, as though we’re surrounded by our stars.” Her throat feels heavy, emotion overcoming her.
“Well we once admitted we feel stars for each other. Now we can finally see them. Surrounding us.” He tucks her hair back, they both grin at each other.
“Loki, this, I don’t have words, thank you.” Y/N admits, tears pooling in her eyes.
Loki softly brushes the tears, “I’ve made you emotional again. I know these are tears of happiness. I want to admit something, if I could, I’d bring down all of the stars that surround the moon and bring them to you. For you are my moonlight. The stars would be merely a fraction of what I’d do for you, now that I’ve found you.”
Y/N’s breath is caught at his admission, her heart soars. She reaches upward, placing a soft kiss against his lips. Loki returns the affection, with as much of emotion he can pour into the gesture.
When they pull away, slightly breathless.
“I’d do the same if not more for you.” Y/N admits to him, in a soft whisper, a promise just between them.
“I’d do the same if not more for you.” Loki repeats, sealing the promise between them with Yayoi Kusama’s infinity mirror room lights as their witness.

Present.
—————
Saturday.
—————
Y/N groans, feeling the after effects of the grilling at Miles is putting her through.
“Come on, up you go.” He prompts again.
She sits crossed leg again from the sprawled out defeat on the soft carpet in their living room.
“Now come on, protective enchantments on the ink bottle again. Block my hex without actively holding the enchantment.” Miles instructs again.
Y/N raises her hand, drawing the symbols for protection, adding intent and visualisation. Then she looks up at Miles, nodding for him to hex the bottle.
Miles raises a finger of his left hand drawing the hex over the bottle. For ten seconds nothing happens. Then Miles is launched two feet away from the bottle.
He grins at her, “Well done, now we’ll move onto plants, don’t worry I can reverse the hexes so the plants won’t be harmed. But you have to protect them well enough.”
Y/N nods, she begins to place the enchantments upon the small succulent cactus.
Miles prepares the hex and the spikes fly out towards Y/N, her eyes widen and she holds up her hands, the spikes stop mere centimetres away from her face. Dropping down onto the floor.
“Did you alter the wording for living things?” Miles enquires, Y/N groans.
“Fuck, I’m so stupid.” She facepalms.
“Hey no bad words said to yourself. You’re trying hard.” Miles pats her back.
“If she was trying hard, silly mistakes would not happen.” Clark adds dryly, upon entering the room.
Y/N bites the inside of her cheek, Clark reminded her of her father, never pleased. At least he was not a verbally abusive like her dad, just showed his disdain for her inability to perform well.
Basically Clark and Miles were good cop, bad cop.
Clark waves a hand and the spikes split into two groups heading for Miles and herself. Y/N stops them this time farther away from their bodies.
“Add the protection.” Miles prompts.
“The spikes…” Y/N reasons.
“Add it.” Clark says as he begins with the hex, Y/N scrambles with one hand to maintain the shield then adds the enchantment with the living thing wording, the spikes turn towards Clark with full throttle.
He turns them into petals of flowers falling to the ground.
Clark only hums, that means he is mildly pleased by her work.
“You kept the spikes connected as well.” Miles praises, “good work.”
Y/N only smiles, the clock hits seven-thirty and now it was time for Clark and his mind bending tricks.
It was only day five of training but it felt as if eternity had passed between the days.
Clark settles on the chair near the fireplace, Y/N joins him on the free chair, “Now, you have to block out the compliance. We can try that with the guard dog vampire outside.”
Y/N rolls her eyes, but nods out of respect.
“For the vampire kind of compliance once you harness the warlock and witch kind. We’re trying to make it so that you have to be touched to be compelled. Once that occurs we need you to break the compliance upon the warlock or witch.” Clark continues, cracking his knuckles to prepare.
“Okay.” Y/N nods, focusing herself.
Clark focuses upon her, bringing forth his visualisation of her own protective enchantments brought forth by her own witch status.
“Tap your right foot.” Clark attempts, as her ankle twitches to move.
Y/N focuses her mental shields. Her ankle stops twitching.
“Snap your fingers in the rhythm of ‘we will rock you.’” Clark compels once again, focusing upon the one weak area through her shield. Y/N resists, visualising his compulsion trying to break through her guard.
Clark huffs, he has to go with something that will pick at her emotions. It was cruel and Miles would tell him off but it needs to be done.
“Tell me about what Loki said to break your heart.” Clark demands, Y/N’s eyes widen her focus wavers.
“He said I am a distraction, he only wanted to know if the bond held any weight in his eyes that—,” Y/N pauses, bringing her mental shields back up to focus. Gritting her teeth.
“Tell me about the heartbreak a parent caused you. Your father specifically.” Clark feels remorseful but this needs to be done.
“You will need to be specific.” Y/N jokes, trying to not let her father ruin yet another thing for her.
“A moment he abandoned you when he should not have,” Clark drills through, the minute Y/N lets that moment flash by her mind.
“I was eleven, we were on our first international trip,” Y/N feels the tears brimming, she tries not to let the story spill but fails, “We were trying to find the tour buffet room, for dinner. The place was new and women over there not that safe but okayish, he got angry that he couldn’t find my mother or the remainder of the family, so we returned to the room. He knocked hard and fast on the door.”
Internally she tries to stop, begs herself to learn quickly.
“When they did not open the door, because they were gone, he left my hand pushed it away with force, it hit the wall behind me. He then says they left us, so I’m leaving you, let them find you alone. Don’t bother searching for me. I stood there for thirty minutes, men, women passed by staring. I pretended to knock each time someone passed by, so they’d know I had family inside. When my mom and remaining family came back cause we never reached they found me sitting in front of the door crying. All alone.” Y/N felt the wetness of the tears, on her cheeks and on her shirt.
“They took me in, I didn’t eat that night, just cried and then fell asleep. He came home late night, when I woke up I saw that I was facing him from my bed, I turned around and slept again. He pretended he never did anything. He never apologised or tried to make it better, he kept abandoning me, he left all the time for others, he never wanted to be there for me unless it was convenient to his motives to have me there to seem like a doting father—,”
“Clark.” Miles’ voice cuts through, Clark pulls away the compulsion.
Y/N glances at the clock, blinking away her tears, the clock said eight. She picks up her bag, checking for her notebook and grimoire.
“Y/N,” Miles begins, Y/N wipes her tears quickly.
“I’ll see you tomorrow earlier its Sunday.  I’ve finished my coursework. Thanks for today.” She rushes out before the fresh wave of tears start, she crosses the perimeter where Loki stands against his car, he quickly walks over to her, wrapping her up in his arms as she falls apart in front of him.
He softly runs his hand over her hair trying to provide comfort. She clings harder and her shoulders shake harder as the sobs turn more deep rooted.
Loki presses a soft kiss to her temple. His hard gaze moves towards the house as Clark and Miles gaze at them, only one holds worry the other’s cheek grits. Their lips moving in conversation
“Miles what kind of second rate man is her father?”
“I told you not to push further.”
“She was eleven who leaves their child in an unknown place?!”
“Clark, please just, these are sensitive topics I hope you learn to build a better relationship with her. As High Priest you’re also an elder who the coven should be able to speak with ease.”
“Miles you know I can’t be vulnerable on demand, I don’t understand why the Priestess was insisting upon me being the successor.”
“Clark…”
“Love,” Loki attempts to have her take a few breaths and drink the water he had kept in the car.
Y/N nods, Loki takes all of her weight and she lets him settle her into the car, she takes a few sips of water. Sniffling as her chest still heaves.
Loki runs his hands over her head, cheeks and arms. When she finally meets his eyes, he worriedly notes the redness in her tear stained ones.
“Thank you.” Y/N whispers, Loki nods, placing a kiss to her temple again.
“I’m sorry he made you share that against your will, I think your father on the other hand deserves quite a few harsh words.” Loki mutters angrily. Maybe more than words he thinks.
“He isn’t worth it, honestly I don’t know why I keep crying over him and what he did to us as a family, what he put me through out of his selfishness.” Y/N admits.
“Darling, he was given a role he doesn’t deserve, you do not do that to your child.” Loki tells her, wiping her escaping tears with the back of his index finger and then thumb.
“I know I never shared that with you, I just,” Y/N loses her words.
“It was a difficult moment, I only wished I could have heard it out of your own volition.” Loki confesses.
They stay quiet, Loki looks back at the house Clark still stands watching, Miles had retreated back into the house.
“Are you hungry?” Loki enquires, Sierra had provided him a list of ways to replenish her energy stores, the top one being rest the remaining being food and stress free moments.
Y/N nods, “We can get take out? I don’t know what to cook with what is left at home; groceries is not something I want to run an errand for today, maybe tomorrow before practice.”
“Of course.” Loki agrees, he checks her again, then walks around the car to the driver’s side.
Their hands lay intertwined upon her thigh as always since their first public date’s drive.
Loki drives to her home, after the conversation that brought out everyone’s worse sides, their little entourage walked on eggshells and Stephen and Loki altered watching over Y/N giving Thor and Nia the Manor and some time to themselves without any responsibilities other than their own.
Nia tried apologising and protesting against the division but understood that maybe this could have them heal from wounds that they never knew existed.
Thor on the other hand said nothing to Y/N nor Loki. Stephen never really spoke unless they had anything to discuss. All in all it was sort of an impasse upon which they had arrived.
Loki walks in through the threshold of the door of the home as Y/N leads the way holding his hand.
There is something lighter in the air maybe the breakdown she had did her some good. Midnight circles around their feet, greeting their return, she had only slightly warmed up to Loki upon his return. Only marking him with her scent when Y/N’s own was present upon him.
Other times Loki swears he could see the cat glaring at him with disdain and anger at leaving them distraught.
As Loki empties the take out boxes into designated plates, his phone chimes. The water still running upstairs indicated Y/N is still in the shower.

Subject: Private Viewing of the Infinity Mirror Room.
Dear Mr. Loki,
I realise that this must be short notice but I could have you and a guest come in for a thirty minute private viewing as before for the return of the same exhibit.
Please let me know as soon as possible so I may save the slot for you if required.
Warmest Regards,
Rayesa Addams-Ahmed
Curator
Tate Modern
Loki finds himself in a blur outside Y/N’s door, he knocks before entering. The shower shuts off and Y/N exits at the same time as he sets foot in, Loki finds his eyes trailing up her frame as Y/N momentarily freezes.
“Loki!” Y/N chides.
“I’m sorry I, I got excited because of an email.” He snaps out turning and covering his eyes with one hand.
She quickly grabs her night shirt throwing it on and only mildly struggles with her pyjama pants, “What email?”
“Tate Modern, the exhibit it is back, it is open for one weekend exclusively for members. Rayesa offered us a private viewing whenever we want.” He explains.
“Tonight we, its late how will we even—,”
“We could eat dinner now, I can drive, or we could even run.”
“No, not after eating.” Y/N shudders at the thought.
“Right you get queasy.” Loki purses his lips, “The train?”
“Faster than the car…” Y/N trails off, Loki turns as he hears her pad towards him.
“I’ll call her.” Loki beams at the prospect of reliving their first date again.
“Yes please.” Y/N grins equally happy at the prospect to have their bond visualised once again.
Loki finds Rayesa’s contact, pressing call.
“Ah, Mr. Loki, I think you found my email I was just sending you an updated one, the private viewings are only open for the next weekend.” Rayesa informs,
“I apologise for the inconvenience, I remember how much your guest and you enjoyed the experience.”
“Oh, just a moment Rayesa,” Loki conveys the change to Y/N they agree to have it next week they’d leave after practice so a ten o’clock night viewing was penciled in under their names.
“Thank you so much. I look forward to catching up with you two.” Rayesa bids farewell.
Loki settles in next to Y/N on the couch as they hold their plates of food.
He’s picked out rewatching modern family knowing it is a comfort show for his mate.
Y/N smiles as they settle into the familiarity of the show.
Plates slowly become empty and bellies are full of future date plans and food. Hearts still stay wounded around the edges but moving towards healing.
Their soft laughter only adds to the comfort Y/N feels. Her head rests on Loki’s chest as they shift into a more laying down position, Loki’s arms encircle her, the throw blanket laid over them, his fingertips trace over her back as they lay still watching.
Y/N finds sleep creeping upon her easier. Her eyelids slowly droop. Y/N sighs snuggling closer to Loki, his body slightly colder than her own but there was a comfort he brought to her by just being there.
“I missed this,” She admits, Loki looks down at her sleepy face, smiling.
“Missed what?” He enquires, he shares the sentiment of this quiet moments that were as much as theirs to keep as were their moments out and about.
“This, laying with you, hearing your breathing, having you near me.” She confesses.
“I have missed having you in my arms.” Loki confesses as well.
They yet hadn’t spoken alone about what transpired when he quote unquote broke things off.
Y/N and Loki both silently agree that moments of comfort and finding their way back to each other took priority.
It was futile to move forward with that hanging above their heads, but they just wanted to escape till when they could, till their hearts and minds wanted to hide away from the harsh words.
Three words still dance on the tip of her tongue. Even in her sleep addled moment. She wanted to whisper them.
Loki feels the bond shift back to silver, he feels his breath knocked out of his lungs at the force with which Y/N’s love cascades across their bond towards him at full throttle, venom pools at the corners of his eyes.
She still held love for him.
Maybe he had hope, hope that he could have her forgiveness her love to cherish again and never let go.
“I love you.” Loki whispers against her temple. Keeping her in dreamland with his soft caresses and soothing words of affection.

—————
Grocery shopping turned out to be an impromptu reunion between the two best-friends and brothers. They first hesitated and awkwardly hugged.
Then Nia dropped the canned soup display when she picked one up from the middle. Y/N saw the whole thing from the other end.
Loki and Thor were off broodingly staring at each-other in the corner.
Y/N wheeled her cart quickly to Nia, grabbing her and pretending they were never near the display to begin with, only when they reached the aisle for detergents did they begin to laugh.
“That was exactly like the cartoon.”
Nia wipes a tear that strays due to the laughter.
Y/N only giggles nodding, the mental imagery on repeat.
“Ma’am do you know who touched the soup display?” The store manager approached them. They straighten up. Shaking their heads.
“It looks fine to me.” Nia says gesturing to the display.
The man turns around and the display is perfectly in place.
Thor and Loki round out from the next aisle holding various decoy items with smiles of achievements on their innocent faces.
“I swear I saw the mess just a second ago.” The manager turns back to their ground then scratching the back of their head they go to inspect it up close.
Y/N grins spying the Nutella jar Loki holds, “This is incentive to kick ass today.” He insists.
“Whats today?” Nia questions, Thor silently watches the exchange.
“Witch training.” Y/N informs making space for the items in Loki’s hands in the cart.
“Oh, how is it going?”
“Kicking ass some days and getting my ass kicked most days.” The young witch admits.
“You’re going to do great. I believe in you.” Nia pulls Y/N in for a hug.
Y/N hugs back, her heart feeling elated at the happiness of having her best friend back, not that she was lost to her. Just the fact that they weren’t speaking.
Thor clears his throat drawing the friends apart.
“Thor.” Nia huffs, “I just got my bestie back.”
“I’m not keeping you apart I just wanted to say that, I’m sorry.” Thor looks down at Y/N apologetic.
“Oh,” Is all Y/N is able to muster.
“I realise things could have been handled keeping everyone’s emotions safe and not jeopardise your bond with my brother.” Thor admits, “I’m also sorry that I didn’t protect you better when you were vulnerable.”
“I’m sorry too for implying that taking care of you was a burden.” Nia adds.
“I can understand it wasn’t an easy task.” Y/N looks at Nia, still apprehensive towards Thor.
She looks back at the man who had almost become her own elder brother.
“Thank you for apologising… It’s, it’s going to take sometime before I can, well we can work past the whole thing. Having you say that does make the process a little easier to come to understand.” Y/N holds Loki’s hand.
Loki nods in agreement, “Thank you, brother.”
“You still haven’t discussed it?” Nia raises an eyebrow.
“We’re avoiding difficult conversations.” Loki admits.
“Its okay, those are difficult for a reason but sometimes you gotta face the music earlier.” Nia pats Y/N’s shoulder in reassurance.

—————
Doctor Strange watches Y/N nervously conduct the assessment. Her heart rate spiked high. He wonders briefly how Loki is fairing with the onslaught of her anxiousness.
Y/N shifts the X-Ray film once again. Not able to pinpoint what Doctor Strange wanted her to find. If this was a chest X-Ray she could answer him better but the shoulder complex was her worst enemy.
“Three minutes.” Stephen tells her, looking up from his watch.
Emery watches her from their place at the door. Something was amiss with their friend and they decided to get to the bottom of it.
Strange feels a butterfly bloom within his chest, he turns, eyes on Emery. They wave at him, and he returns the gesture with a smile, using his ability to know if there are any physical injuries or risks, he was pleased to find that they were fairing better than a week ago.
“It is a normal film.” Y/N says, worrying her bottom lip as she looks up at her head of department.
Stephen gives her a nod,
“Emery come in.” He calls out making a note into the papers he holds.
“Miss Y/L/N, wait in my office please.” Strange tells her, slumping her shoulders and an all the best exchanged with Emery she makes her way to the office, mentally already deciding to call Loki to vent to him about the crappy feeling of the exam.
“Is everything alright with, Y/N?” Emery questions Doctor Strange.
He widens his eyes and then shifts his demeanour to an indifferent one.
“Not that I know of, Emery. Is there a reason you ask?” He locks eyes with them.
Emery’s stomach flutters akin to a butterfly’s wings.
“Well she hasn’t been herself, she helps everyone but herself.” They reason.
“You are correct, I’m sure you’re aware she has a difficult few months earlier on.” Stephen’s gaze softens.
“Yeah, I, she was pretty closed off but then started seeming more true to herself. I just worry, she’s one of the people I trust here apart from you.” Emery admits a slight blush on their face.
Stephen Strange smiles deeply.
“I’m glad I’m amongst that list. I believe if you speak to her she will open up to you, I’m sure.” He advises as they nod, turning to grab a random envelope that contained an X-Ray to interpret.
“Time starts now.” Stephen keeps track on his watch.

Tuesday.
—————
“Again.” Sierra instructs, Y/N breathes in deeply the scent of lavender coaxing through the room.
The energy flows to her palms as she visualises small crescent moons. Spinning, creating a glowing orb.
“Now.” Sierra gives her an opening conjuring up a cloaked vampire the crescent moons leave Y/N’s palms and slice across the illusion cutting through the arms and she conjures a third to slice through the chest.
“Good, always make sure not to go for the obvious skill of the stake in the heart.” Sierra reminds, “Always use that when they least expect.”
Y/N nods, panting lesser then before. She was getting used to harnessing her energy and keeping it in control.
“Next we’re going to learn to charm stakes to make them kill worthy.” Sierra claps her hands grinning.
“That sounds dangerous…” Y/N comments eyeing the cloth in which eight silver stakes shine dangerously.
“Its actually the easiest spell, given how you’re progressing I don’t doubt this will go wrong.” The witch removes two stakes placing one in Y/N’s hands and the other between hers.
Y/N turns the stake between her hands, it feels weighted but not in the sense that it would be too heavy to hold onto.
“Have to keep it on yourself at all times.” Sierra opens the coven’s grimoire.
Directing the page to Y/N, she glances over it, hand movements and incantations.
“Where do you carry it?” Y/N tries looking over her coven member to place where could the stake be, Sierra smiles bending down and retrieving her stake from where it is strapped to her calf.
“Dresses?” Y/N curiously asks, “Oh wait thigh.”
Sierra nods, they begin charming the stakes.

Wednesday.
—————
“Have you relapsed?” Emery questions, they had asked Doctor Strange to allow them to pair up with Y/N.
Her hand pauses on the paper.
“Emery whats, bringing this on?” Y/N looks up at them, the worry in their entire demeanour taking her tenfold.
They recount the changes observed how she seemed more shifty and nervous. Tired all the time and she had a small tremor in her hand.
“And you’ve gotten benched to the OPD again. Strange can say that he wants you on admin work because of the internship being organised but you and I both know what that is code for at least based on what happened. Is Loki not treating you right?” Emery grasps her by her shoulders.
Y/N begins to tear up at the worry, the stress of everything getting towards her.
“No, Loki he’s, he’s been fixing everything that went wrong. Emery I, we think, I might have been forced to consume drugs. I remember these flashes and I just,” The reality of how severely she had been violated hits Y/N, pulling her into the drowning ocean she tried so hard to swim in, she feels a softness of comfort seep in between her sobs and Emery’s comforting words knowing Loki is trying to send her comfort through the bond.
“I’m there for you okay?” Emery reminds her, “You’re my friend and I’m here for you. Always.”
Y/N just hugs Emery again.

Email: Dean Lynch
Subject: Congratulations on your selection.
Dear Miss Y/L/N,
Congratulations upon winning the grand prize for your submission to the literary piece. You have been shortlisted to work with your Professor Loki to come up with a showcase short story, he will be highlighting all the important details for the same.
Please contact on the below mentioned numbers to schedule an appointment during his office hours.
Congratulations again.
Thank you.
Best Wishes,
Dean Lynch.
Y/N laughs, actually whole heartedly laughs. She dials the number for the office.
“Good Afternoon, Literature Building, how may I help you?” Their receptionist greets through the phone.
“Hi, I was emailed by Dean Lynch, regarding scheduling an appointment with Professor Loki, I am the creatives week submission winner.” Y/N smoothly says, walking with her lunch tray to where Emery sat waiting.
“Ah yes, congratulations, when can you come in?” She taps on the keyboard pulling up Loki’s schedule.
“When is his earliest available slot for today?” Y/N smiles at Emery, they happily grin back.
“A four p.m. slot is available for tomorrow, he’s busy with other commitments for today.” The receptionist confirms.
“Great I’ll take it.” Y/N holds back her chuckle.
“Alright, please help me with your email to confirm and send the details of his office.”
Their conversation concludes and Emery raises an eyebrow. Y/N quickly shoots a text to Nia.
“That creative competition?” She looks at them and after beat they nod.
“Did you win?” Emery squeals as she nods, enveloping her in a hug.
“Now what?” They ask as the two settle down.
“Well I have to meet Loki, so I took an appointment to surprise him, I only hope they don’t tell him its me yet, also if he was on the panel I will have to withdraw my name.” Y/N shrugs sadly.
“But the faculty knew you are together, right?” They divide the portion of food between the two of them.
“They do…” She trails off, picking at the food for a minute.
“Then it was unbiased. Also you are fucking talented.” Emery praises.
“Thank you.” Y/N grins.
“I have a question.” They say after halfway through being done with lunch.
“Tell me?”
“What do you think of Doctor Strange?” Emery says softly, Y/N’s gaze follows Emery’s line of vision which stays on their department head.
“What do you mean?” Y/N knows he can probably hear them, she has half a mind to ask them to discuss this elsewhere.
“Just as a person…”
For starters he’s a vampire, Y/N wants to joke but she notes the serious tone being used.
“I think he’s a good man, a little too strict,” Y/N notes Doctor Strange quirk an eyebrow, though that could be in response to him reading the large volume of neurology.
“But he’s a good person, intellectual and he did help me get my shit together as well. I, I couldn’t have pulled my socks up academically if he hadn’t sat me down and showed me how patient reviews changed and how my performance suffered.” Y/N smiles reminiscing, Emery sighs.
“Did something happen?” Y/N wonders, reaching out a comforting hand to their palm.
“No, I just, he gives me butterflies? I think it is a crush. He was so sweet that time with the binder and he always checks up on me. I mean you probably had a crush on Loki and it hardly pans out you know? Plus I’m me.” Emery sighs again, only sadder. Absentmindedly rubbing at the binder.
“Why is you being you a bad thing? We don’t know his identity? Or his sexuality?” Y/N tries to provide comfort.
“Wishful thinking.” They reason.
“Emery.” Y/N wants to grab them by their arms and shake them off of their insecurities.
“I know, I know.” They say knowing what she was about to rant about to them.
“Its just a silly crush, but oh my god his shirt smells so good and it is so soft, and it is such a source of comfort emotionally.” They admit a blush coating their cheeks.
Y/N sneaks a glance at Doctor Strange, he has a smile upon his lips. Oh now she has to ask Loki to get Stephen’s thoughts.

Friday
—————
The day passes in a blur, the physiotherapy department is in chaos as newer interns arrive and are assigned plus several of the students from Emery and Y/N’s years were down with food poisoning from the take out pot luck they held.
So Stephen had accompanied her on rounds and oversaw Emery’s work in the wards.
Stephen noted the tremble in Y/N’s hands when she began treating the first patient.
“Keep going you’re doing well.” He encouraged as she suctioned the tracheostomy tube with precision.
Y/N has excused herself to the restroom in the department to cry tears of joy. The intensity of the overwhelming happiness of being able to do her work washed ashore to Loki.
He smiled in between his class, the students glad for the change in his stricter demeanour. This batch was having a tough time interpreting Hamlet and its themes. The day was all in all difficult for Loki.
He hadn’t fed well enough to carry on.
Human food was the only source and he was getting impatient as one does when hungry.
Only he was in need of blood.
He had half a mind to cancel the four p.m appointment with the winner of the competition. He even told off the receptionist for not getting a name and even messing up the email so he had no way to contact the winner.
Loki rested his head on his hands, contemplating using his speed to reach Stephen.
Then the soft scent of vanilla and amber carried across his door, venom pooled in his mouth as his thirst began to take precedence.
Y/N raised her hand to knock on his door, then felt a tug within her chest and a sudden urgency took hold of her senses.
Loki swiftly pulls her into his office, pressing her against the door. Legs wrapped around his body as he held her up.
Y/N gasps as he breathes her scent in deeply.
His nose trailing over her neck and collar bones and sternum.
“Loki.” Her hands move to his hair, softly tugging to tilt his head back to meet his eyes.
“Y/N.” Loki’s chest rumbles with a needy growl it reverberates through her entire being.
Loki’s eyes open, red rims surrounding his irises, the green edging towards a hungry black.
“You haven’t fed.” She realises, guilt eats at her for keeping him away from properly feeding.
“No, don’t,” He chastises her, feeling the emotions a mile a minute.
A insatiable hunger builds within her as well, the bond telling her to offer her own blood to her mate.
“Drink from me.” She tells him, stroking his cheek with her thumb. Loki struggles, he only fed from her once when he was in dire need of strength.
“I can’t—,” He tries reasoning attempting to regain control from his primal instincts but everything was inviting him to give into them.
“Loki, you need to feed.” She prompts again. Her thumb ghosts over his lips. His hips move, her core pulses in response a soft moan leaves her lips.
“Your scent calls to me, mate.” Loki says, the way his voice dips into a low baritone as his voice has her preening. The bond pushing them even further.
“Use your spell if it gets too much.” Loki tells her, his tongue traces from her sternum up her neck, his fangs scrape the skin lightly. She tilts her head.
“Loki,” Her voice needy, the primal instinct to have her mate feed from her presenting itself.
“I will, witchling. So good to me aren’t you? So fucking beautiful. So needy to have me sink into you.” Loki grows more hungry as the scent of her arousal greets him. He smirks against her skin.
He grinds against her, knowing he’s teasing her. Y/N moans as the fabrics create friction, her own hips moving in need for more.
Loki draws moan after moan from Y/N’s pretty mouth as he grinds harder, at the same time his fangs sink into the skin of her neck, the next moan caught as she arches against him.
Stars shift around them, the black decayed fragments surrounding the bond slowly melt away into a molten silver.
Loki drinks deeply, moaning at her exquisite taste. How could anyone want to alter her? How could anything else be sweeter than her nectar?
Y/N’s grip on his hair tightens, the warmth in her belly increasing as the pace of his hips increases. Moans fill Loki’s office, their own little sanctuary of escape, moments stolen from life to add to their own memories within these walls.
Loki feels himself edge towards satiety. His tongue moves over the marks of his fangs as the wounds begin to heal. The venom washes out the remnants of blood from his mouth, he meets Y/N’s lips in a heated kiss.
He supports all her weight as he carries her to his chair around the table, her hands move to his shirt undoing the buttons trying to feel as much of his skin.
Loki pulls away from her lips, “Hands on my shoulders, witchling.” The words drip as though darkened honey.
He has her straddling him, legs kept apart by his own, Loki lets his hands wander over her body, his eyes slowly return to green.
Y/N’s stomach lurches as his hands ghost over the fabric of her leggings.
“Do you like these?” He questions, Y/N nods, “Then I won’t rip them, stand up and take them off.”
Y/N hesitates slightly, Loki bites his lip as more of her skin appears as she takes off her shoes then leggings, leaving her in her underwear. The material darkened by her arousal.
Loki hums, he knees lips trailing along her inner thigh, Y/N grasps the edge of the table. He spreads her legs apart further.
His green eyes darken with lust as he looks up at her.
“May I have a taste?” He questions.
“You may devour me.” Y/N moans as his lips suck over the fabric of her underwear the fabric ripped, Loki’s tongue licks across her slit, sucking on her clit, her hands move to his hair. They had limited physical contact, Loki keeping himself controlled for her. Even when he revealed himself they had never strayed further than oral.
Loki hums against her clit, the vibrations have her grinding against his mouth. He can feel she’s close by the way her abdomen tightens and her thighs clench around him.
Y/N can only moan and chant his name, as he has her fall apart for him upon his tongue. Loki laps up every last drop she gives him. Her pants fill the room, her weight supported by him.
His lips glisten as he rises, licking them.
“More exquisite than anything I’ve ever tasted.” Loki praises, Y/N feels a deeper blush being added to her already flushed skin.
“Thank you.” Loki presses soft kisses over her face and neck. Y/N giggles as his hair tickles her at the kisses he gives to her.
“You can’t neglect feeding, for me.” Y/N quietly says once they clean up and settle onto the arm chair near the corner window, she lays across his chest.
“Love,” Loki sighs, knowing what was coming.
“No, Loki, you need blood to work optimally…” she raises her head to gaze at him.
“If I feed from you more often, I may bite you to seal the bond. There is also the question of consummating the bond.”
“That is okay,”
“No, not till we figure out things.” Loki cuts her off.
“Loki—,” “Y/N, I will not subject you to a bond when you still have unresolved hurt caused by my actions. This is my final stance on this. Yes I know I’ve been going long periods without blood, but today was a one off, I planned to contact Stephen for blood-bags.” Loki looks down at her, Y/N bites the inside of her cheek, getting up from where they lay.
“Fine. Then we’ll talk about it tomorrow. You should start storing some at home too.” She lays back down, Loki resumes his comforting caresses, urging her into a slumber before she had to train with her coven.

Saturday
————
Loki informs Stephen and Thor about the date planned for tomorrow in London. Thor agrees only because Loki fed more and would carry more blood bags in the event he required more strength.
The conversation hangs above Y/N akin to a knife that could drop at any moment. Practice today was better, she was able to block off a tag team effort of warlock/witch compliance and at Loki’s request they even practiced with his own compliance at home which was involved with several cheek kisses. He even pouted every-time she blocked his ability.
Y/N lays on the ground. Not wanting training to be over for once.
“Usually you’re jumping to leave.” Clark muses, noticing her reluctance.
“I have a difficult conversation coming up with Loki.” She admits.
“About what if I may ask?” He sits down five feet from her, then lays down.
“Well about him leaving and the impact it had.” Y/N gazes at clark, his hair falls across his forehead making him look younger.
“I tend to listen to my heart and with my heart during such conversations.” Clark advises still not meeting her gaze opting to trace the soft celestial orbs floating in the air.
Y/N smiled at the orbs, they were practicing visualisation and projection, so she decided having celestial orbs and bodies floating above would be soothing. After-all the stars were her favourite.
“What if we don’t agree on something? My parents, they fought all the time.” She looks back at Clark he finally meets her gaze.
“Look, love and relationships they aren’t always agreeing with your partner and being on the same page and same line. Sometimes you can be on the first paragraph and they can be on the fifth. Sometimes you gotta meet in the middle. Sometimes you have to accept that there is a differing opinion and view point and still respect it. Is working from that point to something greater better or is staying stuck and then being pushed apart better?”
Clarks words echo as they drive back home, both are still in their own thought bubbles, their hands not intertwined and Loki wishes they could get past this diverging road and meet back together.

Sunday
————
Y/N wakes up to an empty bed. Loki’s arm is not draped around her, keeping her close to him. She turns in bed, moving closer to where Loki had laid, trying to bask in the sanctuary that was her room.
Their conversation explained several things, delving deeper into Loki and his apprehension over the bonds seeing how some vampires mistreated their mates.
“There were several vampires I met, who kept their mates human, because the when exposed to blood drinking frequently the mate wills their life to please the vampire. Consent never came in only the allure of immortality.” Loki recounted, he sat away from Y/N as he spoke needing to be upfront.
“And the bond does act out of its own volition to push two soul mates together. Even if they may try to suppress their feelings.”
“When you kept running into me?” Y/N questions hesitantly. Loki nods not meeting her eyes.
“The way I was behaving as though a full replica of Alexander’s Coven member, feeding from humans, using them, leading witches astray to execute his plan. Y/N I, I did not think I was worthy for someone made just for me.” Loki admits aloud.
“But you were made for me too.” Y/N reminds him.
“Why would you want someone with so much darkness, someone who could hurt you, someone who did hurt you.” He begs her to answer.
Y/N stays quiet for a moment.
“Because despite the darkness you chose to bring yourself out of it, you decided to get away. You even tried staying away from me. Though that wouldn’t have worked cause I would have not let you go.” Y/N smiles when she hears his soft chuckle.
“Yes, when you left, it hurt horribly but that was,”
“Don’t make excuses.”
“I’m not,”
“Y/N.”
They stay quiet once again.
“When did you change your stance on soulmates?” Y/N curiously wonders.
Loki finally looks at her, noticing the flecks within her irises, admiring the beautiful colour of her eyes.
“When I understood you did not need me just as a lover. You became my companion first, a friend, a confidant. Do you remember when I read Walt Whitman to you?” Loki remembers that evening so evidently.
“A week before you told me your truth.” Y/N recalls easily, waiting for him to explain further.
“I finished reading ‘Once I Pass’d Through A Populous City.’ you were on the verge of falling asleep. You took my hand, between both of yours, softly placed a kiss upon it. You made me understand what falling in love is, to open my heart up. That night I told you about my family. My loss, my childhood, my forgone dreams. You cherished me for who I was, not because of what the bond pushed you to ignore. You did not love blindly. Nor did I love you blindly.”
Loki kneeled in front of her, taking her hands in between his,
“You’re the only soul I’ve bared my soul to; the only soul I was brave enough to hold, the only soul I selfishly dug my hands into to keep you with me, but still kept far apart. I’m sorry I broke your heart, I will mend it in anyway you ask, I will leave if you ask me to, I will protect you even if you decide not to take me as your lover. The bond was so frayed yet I knew you’re the one I want to love till this world perishes with us within it. I know I’m asking you for far too much than I deserve. Far too much than what you should allow me to have, hold and love. I, I’m a selfish coward, Y/N.”
“Selfish because I loved you when I was with you, I loved you when I broke your heart and mine. I loved you when I offered our bond in sacrifice. I loved you when I returned to find you lost. I loved you when you hated me. I loved you when you tried to push me away to protect the very heart of yours I broke. I want to make you mine in every way there exists. I want to be yours till my immortality is ripped from me. I want to love you till you will allow me to do so, I love you.” Loki presses his lips all over her palms and forearm. He rests his head in her lap her tears cascade from her eyes onto his cheek.
Y/N falls forward from the chair onto his lap, their lips meet with longing and a burning need to he closer.
The kiss tastes of old wounds that could start healing, salt tears and love that was once lost to both.
The kiss ends as they part to feel more skin, the bond urging the need to feel each other close.
Clothing discarded, the fireplace burning of dying embers.
Hands exploring skin to reminisce and remember.
Soft whispers of love.
Warm kisses of new promises.
Caresses with the palms that once bled holding their broken heart’s shards, find comfort within the skin that glows with love.
The bond isn’t forged that night but the remaining darkness surrounding their bond seeps away, allowing gold to cascade amongst their stars.
Loki stands at the stove preparing breakfast for her and drinking blood from an insulated tumbler. Nia had cleared out her wine cooler to accommodate his inconspicuous blood bottles.
Y/N wraps her arms around his waist, stars cascade merrily across Loki’s chest at her affection.
“Good Morning.” he greets, laughing when she starts swaying to dance without music.
“Good Morning, It’s date night.” She singsongs, then laughs.
Loki turns offering a kiss which she gladly accepts.
“Indeed it is.” He smiles. Y/N pouts suddenly.
“Whats wrong?” Loki wonders, brushing his thumb over her lips.
“You haven’t read to me in a long time.” Y/N reminds him, missing the warmth of those moments suddenly.
“So you want to laze around in bed with me till noon?” Loki catches on, poking her cheek.
“Maybe…” She smiles at him, Midnight jumps on the counter, the scent of chicken enticing her.
“Midnight we have a deal don’t we?” Loki reminds the small creature.
Midnight freezes her paw that was about to touch the sausages in the plate hovers mere centimetres away.
She gives him her trademark kitty eyes, the blue of her eyes entirely taken up by her pupils.
Loki turns back to Y/N to tell her that her little cat is a dramatic baby. He finds her also giving him the same kitty eyes.
“Alright.” He accepts defeat, “You get your cuddles and you can get the chicken.”
Midnight chirps happily and Y/N grins elated.
“Both of you are menaces.” Loki shakes his head, admiring the two fondly.
“You love us.” Y/N gives him a pointed look.
“Indeed I do.” He gives her a soft kiss and then a kiss upon Midnight’s forehead.
—————
Tate Modern brings a nostalgia that Y/N knows if she visited when Loki was gone; she would have broken down into hysterics since it held so much of meaning to the pair.
Rayesa greets them in the corridor as she had months before. Leading them to the door that had brought their bond to the physical realm.
Only this time, Y/N would know that it was real and not just a feeling. Loki smiles down at her as he opens the door to allow them to pass through the smaller darkened corridor, his eyes adjust swiftly, he checks the room using his senses, relaxing slightly when he perceives no threat.
Excitement floods their bond as Y/N practically buzzes when they are about to enter.
Loki chuckles but he knows her excitement is matching with his own.
Y/N feels a tug just before the mirror room should begin, Loki stays standing at the edge of the corridor.
The vampire frowns, trying to step forward.
There is movement to their left, Loki pulls Y/N back against him.
“Weave.” They both speak together.
Y/N steadies her mind, knowing what may come next.
“Stay by me, he won’t enter the weave.” Loki whispers to her, she nods.
“I may not enter but I can make her come outside to play, pretty boy.” The cloaked Vampire says, the lights surround him, Y/N feels tears brim, their memory being tainted.
Loki pulls her closer, his fangs appear, eyes darkening and the red appearing.
“Oh it is cute, you want to know what is going on in my head, well I have a warlock to help keep you out.”
The weight of the stake grounds Y/N, she knows manoeuvres to use it with precision now.
“Lets make him make an appearance. Warlock join us.” The vampire’s hand calls forth, Y/N feels the air leave her lungs as the warlock steps out of the shadows into the light.
His hair shorter, his stance broader and there is a cold glint in his blue eyes that once only housed warmth.
“James?” Y/N questions, his eyes flicker to her, then back to Loki, then back to her.
James then looks back to the vampire waiting for the next order. Not recognising her even a little.
“Help our vampire out, he hasn’t had a headache in so long.”
Loki groans, he moves his hand from her waist just before his grip turned harsher. The pain sears his head, and the noise ringing had him in the worst imaginable pain, almost close to being staked.
“Bucky, Stop it!” Y/N brings forth the small crescent moons.
“Ah, ah, witch. I will make him hurt, more.”
Loki screams as she raises her hand to throw the crescent as her hand lowers the pained scream stops as Loki heaves.
She flicks her wrist behind, sending a spirit message to Sierra for help with the weave.
“What do you want?” Y/N questions the vampire, “Why do you have Bucky under your, compliance?”
“I honestly prefer you when you’re high and being delicious for me.” The vampire tuts.
Loki’s growl is cut off by another pained scream as James keeps his gaze locked on Loki.
“Tell him stop it.”
“Step out of the weave.” The vampire offers.
“No.” Loki screams through the pain.
“Stop the pain and I will.”
“I don’t believe you, witch.” The vampire stays cloaked, the smugness of his tone irks her. She steps out of the weave’s border.
“Ah he’s been feeding from you.” The vampire muses.
Bucky looks back at Y/N, their eyes meet again.
“You know when I took this little warlock in,” The vampire grabs Bucky’s jaw harshly. His shoulders tighten in the slightest.
“I was surprised to find out he knows you. Hand to use compliance to make him even want to cause you, his sweet friend, even a semblance of harm.”
Swiftly Y/N is against the wall and the vampires hands are on her throat. Loki pushes against the weave. The lights ripple around them.
“Will you be a good blood bag today? Get high and help me get high? Hmm?” The vampire admires her sickeningly.
“No.” Y/N brings forth the static, the vampire flies to the other side of the room, lights tangling with his body.
“Warlock.” The vampire calls out, making himself upright.
Bucky raises his hand, Y/N raises her own.
Bucky looks around suddenly, confused.
“What the fuck?” He falls to the ground, flailing as though he’s being pushed under water.
The vampire pushes Y/N down holding her hands above her head.
“You will comply.” The vampires dark and red rimmed eyes finally greet hers. His face still covered by a mask.
She spits in his face earning a slap across her face.
Loki launches himself at the vampire, lavender scents surround him, he knows her coven is sending help.
“Warlock get her to comply.” The vampire orders before Loki throws him into a mirror with shards flying across the room. Loki retrieves his stake, pressing it into the vampire’s arm.
Bucky takes the place the vampire had, his fingertips touch her temples. Y/N groans, trying to block his intrusion. She uses her knee to push him to the floor, his fingertips stay on her temples.
Y/N puts her own index and middle finger over his forehead.
Bucky and Y/N both have blank expressions on their faces.
‘Bucky?’ Y/N opens her eyes to a long corridor, darken brick walls lit by candles floating at varying heights casting a warm glow.
She follows the path that goes deeper, a door comes into view, a small window exists to peek into it.
Y/N stands near it looking in, a small brunette boy runs around a field, frosting coating his fingers and nose, squealing as a older girl runs behind him.
Another door presents itself, she peeks into it, Bucky, stands near a casket, his eyes red rimmed. Gramma Barnes putting a hand on his shoulder. The picture of his mom surrounded by a floral wreath.
Y/N steps away, these are doors of his memories.
‘Bucky?’ Y/N calls out, only a haunting echo of her voice greets the corridor.
She walks in further grunts reach her ears.
She steps closer to the room, Bucky lays on the floor. A dark creature looms over him.
‘Bucky?’ Y/N rushes towards him,
‘Y/N? Stay away, don’t let that thing latch onto you.’
The dark disembodied creature cackles moving towards her, she raises her crescent moons the creature groans as the moons pierce through its body.
‘How the?’ Bucky is baffled.
‘I’m a witch.’ She shrugs, bending down to retrieve the silver stake.
‘I’m a warlock.’ Bucky says hesitantly standing up grabbing his side.
The creature comes full throttle towards her, she raises her stake, the creature moves, she cuts off the edge of it, it screams as if in pain.
Bucky raises his hands, two embers glow.
‘Whats the plan?’ Y/N questions as they wait for the creature to attack.
‘I’m going to kill the shit of that thing.’ He informs.
The creature lurches for Bucky, he ducks and Y/N stabs the back of it.
‘I think it should be a we kill effort but up to you.’ Y/N shrugs taking out the stake. Bucky looks up at her, raising his hand for help to get up. He pants,
‘Yeah okay. We kill.’ He agrees.
‘Have you tried a vampire weave?’ Y/N questions.
‘What am I in kindergarten warlock class?’ Bucky throws the ember at the creature, it burns like sludge falling to the ground.
Y/N shifts narrowly missing being latched onto.
‘Its a we effort.’ Bucky says in her imitation.
Y/N gives him a glare.
‘Can that moon of yours be modified into a boomerang effect?’
Bucky questions as they duck behind a desk. ‘I really hope none of my thesis work is burned.’
‘There is a compliance vampire demon child ghoul thing and you care about the thesis.’ Y/N throws her moon for a trial at the boomerang effect.
‘If it was yours?’ Bucky raises an eyebrow ducking back after throwing an ember.
‘Touché.’
Bucky gives her an I told you so look.
Loki groans as the stake cuts through his shoulder blade. He elbows the vampire throwing the stake out. He watches Y/N and Bucky stay in their mind realm as he pushes the vampire to the ground, taking the stake out from himself and into the neck of the vampire.
The vampire blocks his hands, attempting to push Loki away.
‘Do you have a silver stake?’ Y/N questions.
‘No, but I do have a memory of one? You remembered you had one on your calf right?’
‘Yeah.’ Y/N says, Bucky peeks above the desk to check.
‘Where is it?’ She enquires.
‘I ducked back too quickly.’ Bucky groans.
‘Warlock playgroup.’ She labels.
‘How long have you been training?’ He offendedly asks her.
‘Three weeks…’ She admits.
‘Baby-witch.’ He scoffs at her.
Y/N glares at him.
‘You’re an asshole.’ She says finally.
‘Okay that I deserve. You’re still dating the vampire?’ He asks they begin to sneak out the back trying not to get caught.
‘We’re soulmates.’ She whispers.
‘God, no wonder, we couldn’t happen.’ Bucky shakes his head.
‘We could have been friends but you were busy being besties with Maria.’ She throws at him when they enter the memory door.
‘Are you jealous?’ Bucky smirks, feeling smug.
‘No, in-fact I wished her best of luck for being friends with a flaker.’ Y/N looks around the memory, they were inside a log house.
‘You know once we kill that thing, I’ll take you to the memory of that call where I can make you hear you never called me a flaker.’ He walks the familiar environment leading her down into a basement.
Y/N only scoffs in response.
The room is carpeted, four walls lined with books, a table in the centre and a recliner to the side.
There is a set of dark-wood doors and the scent of patchouli wafting through.
‘Thats the bigger reading room, with space to practice. This is my Gramma’s library.’ Bucky moves to retrieve a box, opening it and sighing with relief.
Y/N screams as pain sears her sides where the creature begins to seep into her skin.
Loki groans,
“That would be my compliance latching to her.” The vampire effective pushes him, grabbing Loki by the collar and driving upwards they tangle in more lights
The vampire throws Loki down to the floor, Y/N and Bucky’s bodies shift at the impact that cracks the ground.
Y/N thrashes in Bucky’s hold, the compliance latching onto her.
‘Bucky!’ Y/N screams her stake falling and sliding towards Bucky.
‘The crescent!’ Bucky reminds her, Y/N calls back the used moon, it cuts through the neck of the creature.
Bucky lunges forwards dragging the stakes through the creature’s heart, dragging it upwards, the sludge moves over them then evaporates.
Gramma Barnes comes out of the room, to fund the two of them panting hard and laying on the floor attempting to recover.
‘Bucky.’ Gramma holds a scolding tone.
‘Y/N.’ She says in the same tone.
She looks at him questioningly having only met Gramma on video call.
‘I’m a witch too give me some credit, also clean up the mess before leaving.’ She scolds leaving them to clean up the mess.
Loki grabs the second stake from Y/N’s calf. The vampire’s chest left battered with wounds.
The vampire lays down out of energy and his compliance on Bucky broken.
Y/N and Bucky shift, taking in the scene in front of them. Y/N rushes to Loki, hugging him tightly.
“I’ve got blood, don’t need to feed.” He assures her, pressing a soft kiss to her hair.
Bucky walks towards the semi unconscious vampire.
“Welcome back, Mr. Barnes.” Loki greets, Y/N moves back to his side, his arm protective around her waist.
“Good to see you too, Professor.” Bucky greets back.
Bucky bends down to the cloaked vampire, pulling the mask away.
“Looking pretty strong John.” Bucky’s fist glows brighter, the punch bruises John’s face as he knocks out finally.
“That was for Gramma.” Bucky informs then looks back at Y/N and Loki.
“I’m so sorry.” Y/N tears up, Loki releases her to hug her friend.
Bucky sighs in content at the familiarity of her. Internally thanking his luck she brought him back out of the compliance.
“I missed you.” Bucky admits, “I’m sorry I left in the way I did.” His palm rests over her hair, comforting her.
“Buy me a book and I’ll forgive you. I missed you too.” Y/N mumbles against his shoulder. He laughs.
“You got it, Poetess.”
Loki, looks at them, no longer jealous or worried he’d lose her.
Bucky looks at Loki, the protective warning in his blue eyes clear as day.
If Loki hurt Y/N, Bucky Barnes would be sure to hurt Loki back.
That warning applied to everyone, Bucky cherished dearly.
