“As long as I have you.” Buck smiles, gets his hand from underneath Tommy’s just to then grab it and lift it to his lips to kiss Tommy’s knuckles. He gets a bashful smile in response, a rare sight on Tommy, but so very much appreciated. “With you and with my team, maybe it won’t get too bad.” “I’ll always be by your side.” Tommy says so seriously and earnestly, and Buck believes him.

“Yeah, but I’m not building him a bookshelf. From scratch, not even putting together a store-bought one.” Eddie shakes his head, looking at the pieces of wood. “I like to work with my hands.” Tommy shrugs again. “Believe me, I know.” Eddie responds, wincing slightly. “Buck talks about your hands way, way, waaay too fucking much. I know more than I ever wanted to know.” There’s an exaggerated horror in his voice, and Tommy can’t help the snort of laughter that escapes him, already very familiar with his boyfriend’s tendency to overshare.

So Buck marches up to him, wraps his arms around Tommy from behind, hooks his chin over Tommy’s shoulder, and shoves the bottle of beer right in front of his face. “Here,” he says, hoping Tommy takes the bottle, so he can properly put his hands on his  big, muscular, naked chest, wanting to touch and explore, as if he wasn’t familiar with every single inch up close. “Baby, I still have a beer right here.” Tommy chuckles, raising his hand with the half-empty bottle, and Buck can feel the sound vibrating through his chest, where his front is glued to Tommy’s back. It’s a hot day, they’re both sweaty and clammy, but he couldn’t care less, still as insanely attracted to his boyfriend as since the moment they met.  “That has to be warm by now. Here’s a new one.” Buck insists, and even though he can’t see Tommy’s face, he knows that he fondly rolls his eyes.

I noticed they let Buck/Oliver keep some of his facial hair in his scenes with Tommy. He's usually pretty clean shaven (has been in the past too when he was off the job) but now with Tommy he's allowed to be a little more scruffy (or /rugged/ as some journalists might say). It went from a light stubble during their first date to hasn't really shaved for a day or two during their dinner date.

So I'm choosing to believe Tommy mentioned he likes a little facial hair on guys and that's why Buck's razors are ignored when he's not working

i noticed that too.. 👀 i'd been hoping they'd give us a bit of stubble and now here they gift us a slightly scruffy boy?! 🤤🫡

Rather Be The Hunter Than The Prey (BuckTommy fic) - 7x10 coda

Author's note: Title comes from Natural by Imagine Dragons.

At first, he didn’t tell Tommy because it wasn’t something Buck could just say over the phone or text. A part of him had hoped that Chim would spill the beans and that it wouldn’t be up to Buck. Then again, Chim and Hen both had their own baggage when it came to their new Captain. Captain Gerrard was every bit of a tyrant, misogynist, racist, homophobe that Hen, Chim, and Tommy had painted him out to be. Maybe he was even worse. 

Bobby told them to tolerate it. He needed to clear the air with the Chief and it wouldn’t help to anger Gerrard. Grin and bear it. None of them liked the plan exactly, but Hen had a feeling that they would get targeted if they made a fuss. She was thinking about the councilwoman and had some kind of suspicion that she was involved in Gerrard’s return to the 118. They also couldn’t forget that the Chief had given them medals purely for the PR — though they were deserved. After all, they all knew that they had disobeyed orders and stolen a LAFD helicopter no matter what the outcome had been. 

Buck was losing count of how often he had to just hold his tongue. The comments, the sneers, the belittlement. It was worse than Buck could have expected it. Ravi seemed to get the worst of it. Extra cleaning and menial tasks on top of all the racist remarks. Forget trying to step up and help him, because Gerrard didn’t like that either. He didn’t like a lot of things, like his exact orders not being followed. Or anyone that dared to question any of his decisions. He even huffed about it when he did turn out to be wrong. 

After those first few shifts, Buck just didn’t say anything because he and Tommy had opposing schedules and what little time they had together couldn’t be spent discussing Gerrard. Buck wanted to kiss his boyfriend in peace and not think about the mess that was work. 

Then, when they did finally have time off together, Buck was so exhausted both physically and mentally that he wanted nothing more than to just be cuddled by his boyfriend. He excused it, because Tommy didn’t ask about work. 

Buck didn’t know how Tommy hadn’t heard. Maybe Air Operations got their gossip a bit late. 

They all wrote letters of complaint. Hen documented every instance of Gerrard’s movements. Any bad decision out on a call was written down. Every time he talked down to them and used a slur. Every time he bullied any of them. 

The weird part was when he tried to be friendly. He started with Eddie. Maybe because Eddie was white passing and because Eddie was straight. Eddie was surprisingly good at not rocking the boat, though Buck should have known that. Eddie never agreed with him, was stony faced whenever Gerrard tried to joke with him in a way that put down everyone else. A few times, Buck heard Eddie say something back, but he wasn’t in any place to fight anyone’s battles. 

Buck had to ball up his fists and press his nails into the palms of his hands as a reminder that this man did have power over him and also the ear of the Chief apparently. Bobby wasn’t getting anywhere no matter who he talked to. 

Buck didn’t know how Tommy found out. Maybe the gossip finally reached him, or Chim finally told him. Maybe Eddie mentioned it at basketball. 

It was right after Buck got home from a twenty four hour that had felt more like a forty eight. He hadn’t been there long, when a knock came. He opened the door to find Tommy there, looking a little exasperated. Buck couldn’t even remember making plans with him. 

“Why didn’t you say something?” Tommy asked. 

“About—”

“Evan,” Tommy said and he said it in that way of his that made his name mean more. 

“You’re talking about Gerrard,” Buck said and he hung his head. “I didn’t mean to not tell you.” 

Tommy sighed. He didn’t look upset as much as annoyed. Buck hated it. He motioned him inside. 

“He’s awful. More than awful. Despicable,” Buck said. 

“How did this even happen?” Tommy asked, gentler. 

Wordlessly, Buck went to his fridge and pulled out two beers. His usual choice and the ones he stocked up on just for Tommy. 

“Bobby was planning on retiring early. He quit before the fire. Changed his mind, but Gerrard had already talked his way into Bobby’s job. It doesn’t help that we had that audit from Internal Affairs and the Chief knows what really happened when we rescued Bobby and Athena. Hen thinks Councilwoman Ortiz is involved. It’s been awful.”

“Oh, Evan,” Tommy said. 

When he found himself in Tommy’s arms, Buck just deflated. He fell into him and knew his boyfriend would catch him and hold him. He may not be able to fix it, but he would certainly do his best to at least comfort Buck. 

“He just…he makes all kinds of comments and he’s changed practically everything. Bobby told us to just not let it get to us. Hen’s been documenting everything. Eddie’s depressed without Christopher. Chim is just about as done as I am. We’re surviving, but work kind of sucks right now.”

Tommy hugged him harder. 

“I’m still a little mad at you,” Tommy said, when he finally let him go. “You should have told me. I hate…I hate to think you were suffering and I didn’t know.” 

“I didn’t…I know what he did to you, Tommy. I didn’t want to bring any of that back.” 

Tommy gave him a look, but Buck had seen first hand how Gerrard still affected Tommy. He didn’t want to see that again, not after experiencing Gerrard for himself. 

“Messing with me is one thing. You…well that’s another,” Tommy said and he walked around the island. “Hen and Chim don’t deserve this either. I’m going to shake some trees, alright? The 118 got rid of him once, it can be done a second time. That man shouldn’t even be working for LAFD anymore.” 

“Bobby’s been trying from the moment we found out he was taking over,” Buck said. “We’ve all been complaining daily.”

Tommy made a humming noise. “Then that just means they have to see his behavior first hand. And not by the Chief.”

Buck was too tired for conspiring to get rid of his boss when he didn’t fully expect things to work. After getting called a fairy and weak, and after the day Gerrard said people like him were abominations, Buck was exhausted. 

“What are you going to do?” 

Tommy smiled at him, slid a hand to his cheek. “I have a few people to call up. Not tonight. Tonight, I take care of you.” 

“Tomorrow world domination?” Buck asked. 

Tommy leaned forward, pressing their lips together into a quick kiss, thumb rubbing gently on Buck’s cheek. 

“Tomorrow I call in some favors,” Tommy said when their kiss ended. “Right now, I’m calling for dinner.” 

Buck laughed. He kissed him again, drawing him in deeper. He was falling for him, falling deep. It wasn’t scary, which was maybe scary in and of itself. When they pulled apart, Tommy pointed upstairs. 

“Go get changed. I’ll order us a pizza. We can watch one of your documentaries.” 

Buck kissed him again. This time short, almost just a peck. He stared at Tommy for a beat too long before he turned to head upstairs. His boyfriend was amazing. Gorgeous. Kind. Understanding. 

Later, when they were cuddling on the couch, a pizza box on the coffee table and their beer bottles discarded empty next to the box, Buck thought that maybe it didn’t matter much about Gerrard, not when Buck had Tommy. He brought up one of Tommy’s hands so he could place a kiss on it. Tommy kissed his shoulder. Neither of them said a word, the silence filled instead with the narrator of the nature documentary they’d put on.

“You okay?” Buck asks, running his hands down the back of Tommy’s head, fingers scraping his scalp. Tommy all but purrs at the sensation.

“Yes,” Tommy answers, eyes searching Buck’s, expression tender. “You feel amazing. I’m never going to get enough of this.”

“God, me neither,” he looks at Tommy, smiles slowly, and decides right then to give it a try. He leans up just a little so he can reach Tommy’s ear as he wraps a hand around Tommy’s neck. He whispers, low and breathy, “Daddy.” The second it comes out of his mouth, he knows he loves it. __________________________________________________________________________ Post 7x10.

Hold onto Me ('Cause I'm a Little Unsteady)

The medal ceremony for the cruise ship rescue for the 118 and Tommy is coming up and Buck has a week and a half to prepare Tommy for Gerrard's presence. He's got a few things up his sleeve. Part 8 of The Name of the Game.

Better Late Than Never

“What are you guys doing here?”

“Well, we had a little emergency…”

Tommy tilts his head and Buck can see him scan his body with the eye of a first responder, as though looking for injuries. “Emergency?”

“Yes." Buck smiles at him sweetly. "I missed you.”

In the Wind

“Hey baby,” he greets, as cheerfully as he can when he sees the state Evan’s in. The right side of his face has a nasty, dirty gash from brow to jaw, but Tommy doesn’t think, at a quick glance, it’ll need stitches. He’s also cradling his right arm to his chest. Tommy gets to work immediately, getting the other harness around Evan. “Fancy meeting you here.”

Or: Tommy lends a hand when Buck gets stuck on the side of a cliff.

String of Fate

Soon, he’s having the time of his life dancing with Karen and a couple of guys ask to cut in, a couple of women do too, and Buck dances with all of them, but no one sparks his interest.

Until the beautiful guy with the cleft in his chin taps Buck on the shoulder as he and a woman named Beth are finishing a fast dance, Karen having long since made her way back to Hen for a break.

“Hi,” the guy’s smile is gorgeous. He’s got tousled brown hair, dark blue eyes, and is wearing a dark blue button-up shirt that really makes them pop. He’s also built like a damn tank, and Buck feels an instant pang of attraction.

“Hi,” he says brightly. “Wanna dance?”

Outside the Lines

He’d spent at least an hour tracing his fingers up and down Tommy’s body, watching the goosebumps on Tommy’s skin, feeling the shivers that overtook him. Buck always wants to touch him, but it’s nights like these where he takes his time with Tommy, putting his hands everywhere he can get them, the tips of his fingers finding moles, scars, and the lines of his face that show especially when Tommy smiles at Buck.

Hitch in the Plan

“Let’s talk engagement party.” “Yes,” Buck says, holding out a fist for Tommy to bump and he does with a grin. “I’m so excited.” “Me too,” Tommy says, leaning forward in his seat. “What do you have for us?” “Okay, so I’m thinking something low-key. You guys are family-oriented, so I know you’d want your families there, found and biological.” “Yeah,” Buck says, nodding eagerly. “Exactly.”

Tumbling Down

It happens so fast. The shaking under him worsens, the ground moves and he’s sliding first and falling second. He swears he can hear Tommy yell. Before everything goes dark, he has the presence of mind to press ‘1’ on his phone.

Or: Buck and Tommy go on a hike that ends up being far more dangerous than either of them had planned.

Call Me By My Name

“Tommy was just telling us how great you are.” “He is,” Tommy agrees. “He’s my favorite person. He worked hard to help organize this party too.” Evan shrugs shyly, and Tommy marvels at how different his demeanor is around his parents, as though he’s trying not to take too much space. “It was fun.” “You did a good job,” Maddie says fondly. “I helped a little too,” Tommy says, which is true. “Right, Buck?” Even Maddie looks surprised at that. Evan blinks at him slowly. Then he says, “Yes, you did, and, no absolutely not on the name.”

Call You By Mine

“Okay,” Maddie says slowly. “So let me get this straight: both you and Buck plan to propose to each other, but you don’t know how and you don’t know when.” “Exactly,” Tommy confirms. “Oh also, we both have the belief that we want over-the-top romantic proposals.” Maddie raises an eyebrow. “Do you?” Tommy shrugs. “I mean, would I love it, yeah, but I’ve been thinking of this for the last couple of days and honestly, he could ask me to marry him in a dumpster and I’d say yes.”

A Little Less Conversation

"Hey handsome," A voice says behind him, close enough for Tommy to hear over the live band in the bar. "What's a guy like you doing in a place like this?"

Tommy knows he's hitched himself to a total dork, but he's perfectly okay with that.

He loves this. He loves everything about Tommy, but this... It’s the way he got to come to Tommy’s house, which feels far more like home than his loft ever has. It’s the way Tommy was excited to see him, it’s the way he fills him, covers him, kisses him, and touches him...it’s almost sublime. Every aspect of their relationship is something to be savored.

“So, what you’re saying is-” Evan Buckley, says, resting an arm on the shoulder of another guy, tall handsome, with brown hair, and taking a bite out of a giant blueberry muffin. “-that you think you could beat me in an arm wrestling contest.” He hadn’t been here in the loft area when this guy arrived, but Andrew doesn’t think he’s part of the 118. Or at least, not part of the A-shift. He’s not uniform, but he can’t get much more of a handle on him than that.

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

It’s one of those days when the intrusive thoughts and spiraling anxiety can’t be distracted with video games and research binges, when getting out of bed takes more energy than just staying in it. When the tears come whether he wants them to or not because his emotions don’t have anywhere else to go.

In from the Cold

Buck and Tommy go to Minnesota to visit an old Army friend of Tommy's. They get into a little trouble before they leave. Part 11 of The Name of the Game.

Andrew, They Made It!

Andrew is quiet for a moment and bites his lip as he stops at a red light. He’s had something he’s been wanting to ask but hasn’t had the chance. He's not sure now is really the right time, but they did tell him he could ask questions whenever he wanted, so, he might as well give it a try. In the time he's been getting to know Buck and Tommy, he's learned Tommy is a very straightforward guy. If he doesn't want to answer, he won't. "Hey, can I ask you a question?" he asks as the light turns green. He can see Tommy looking at him from his peripheral vision. "Will it distract me from the trouble my disaster-prone husband has had heaped on him this time?"

Or: Andrew picks Tommy up to get to Buck after an incident. He has questions. Sequel to "Andrew, They're Husbands!"

It's True, I Will Rescue You

“I’m training a new probie who seems a little off in ways I can’t describe.” Evan frowns. “What did he do?” “Nothing...I don’t know, just got a weird vibe from him.” Evan grins. “Look at you, talking about vibes.”

Or: A new probie seems to be unable to take the word "No" when it comes to Tommy. How far will he go?

The ‘Captain’ had taken even longer. He tucks his dress uniform hat under his arm. “I do.”

“Psst,” Evan’s saying, and Tommy looks at him to see he’s got a hand around his mouth as though he wants to tell Tommy a secret, which honestly, is not new so far. He’s told Tommy many ‘secrets’ he already knows, like that he’s bisexual, that he really hates Gerrard, and that also, he really hates golf. Considering how he got a golfing injury and required surgery in the first place, this is not really surprising.

I have an idea.” “Tommy,” Athena breathes out. “Tommy. What have you got? I’ll take anything.” “Well, I’ve been on standby, just in case and well, it’s kind of insane.”

When he gets to Tommy’s door, he leans against it out of sheer relief. The adrenaline and sheer insanity of the whole plane thing and trying to get Athena and the rest of the passengers down safely is finally leaving him. His thoughts are interrupted when he hears a faint cough from the other side of the door and he winces in sympathy. He’d hoped that would have been better by now.

Collateral Damage

"It’s our first night off together in forever. I was wondering about dinner? Stay in or go out?” Tommy thinks about how to answer that. An answer that doesn’t make any sense should set off the alarm bells he needs. "Um, you know, we talked about that chicken the other night," Tommy says as nonchalantly as he can. And he can hear it. Evan's not making a sound but he knows something is up because they never had any such conversation. "Did we?" Evan says just as carefully. "We did," Tommy answers and decides to use his ace in the hole. "Didn't we, Buck?" "You're in trouble," Evan says immediately.

Out of the Woods

“Please stay,” Evan pleads, Tommy can hear the edges of tears in his voice, and his own eyes fill against his will. “Please don’t leave; talk to me. This isn’t the guy who agreed to go to my sister’s wedding with me. This isn’t the guy who took care of me after I dislocated my shoulder and went to a funeral for a dead outlaw just because I asked him to.” Tommy raises his hand and wipes his eyes before turning slowly. Evan’s still sitting on the island, looking at him pleadingly. Tommy walks back to his seat and sits down, and Evan exhales slowly. “Thank you,” he says and Tommy sees his hand shift slightly, as though to take Tommy’s but he doesn’t. Tommy wishes he would.

“Hey,” Eddie’s voice pops through his thoughts and he looks up to see him and Howie looking at him in concern. It’s hard to find craft beers he isn’t picky about. Evan used to gently tease him about it. Come on, man, you’re 40 today.”

Buck knows Tommy loves to take care of him and he'd be lying if he said he didn't love it. He's never had anyone who wanted to take care of him before. He will always remember Billy Boils and his curse, and Tommy's skepticism and acceptance. But he wants to take care of Tommy, too, and Tommy rarely lets him. They'd had an argument about it once after a rescue gone wrong, when Buck had to push and push until Tommy broke down in his arms over losing a patient. So every once in a while, Buck takes care of Tommy.

It happens so fast, that Tommy's not even sure how it starts. First, he's walking toward Evan, slowly, hesitantly, after a quick mental conversation with himself when he decides he's just going to go say 'hi' and test the waters, try not to say ‘ImissyouImissyouImissyou’ when he hears the sound of car tires squealing. It comes out of nowhere, he thinks, the car, going so fast that Tommy doesn't have time to think. Because it's heading straight for Evan. No. No, that's not happening. So Tommy runs as fast as he can and pushes Evan out of the way, hard.

melbell's theory on "is it a swerve":

I have been saying for about two days that I would write out a whole through-line of my theory of what shenanigans might be happening in the writers room for 911. 

I should specify first that this theory goes based on the idea that what’s being served to us currently is an entire swerve, and that they’re following the formula they’ve done before (ala Madney, Tarlos, etc.). 

My theory ties into 807 as well. It has us not losing Tommy, but him actually being in the episode. Given that we know that it’s been said that recurring cast members will film in batches and not necessarily by week, that opens up the option for Lou to be in (at least) 807, if not more. 

I know some of what has come out in social media in the past few days references that there was a certain lineup for the way B/T was viewed through 8a, and how it would culminate in the discussion of moving in together, referencing lore to Tommy’s past, possibly his father, etc. 

My thing is that, at the end of the day as a creative, all I’m trying to do is follow the breadcrumbs we’ve been fed for the past 12 episodes of this show. Because of that, the points of note within those breadcrumbs are: 

7x09: “Tommy’s good people. He’s good for you.” 

7x10: “My dad and I don’t really talk…Having Gerrard was like having the father I already had.” 

8x05: “people are what make life worth living”; “my boyfriend”; “It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it? having a crew like this behind you, even when things go wrong” "especially when things go wrong"

8x06: “Do you love him” (entire speech) 

Now obviously, coming out of season 7, this show knew they wanted Lou back, but they didn’t know what his schedule was going to look like or whether the character would pan out, how the general audience would continue to tune in, etc. However, they did lay down enough crumbs that they could pick up and continue to move forward with. They gave themselves the ability to tell a story with Tommy’s lore around his father, along with what they ultimately chose to do with Abby (which a lot of fans were talking about early on in the summer as it was). 

Now, we’ve learned things since I first formulated this theory. We know that there’s a discussion about Buck having a “pendulum” reaction to the breakup and how to deal with it. We know that he’s going to throw himself into other things to cope. We know that there’s mention of “cracks starting to show” in reference to how he deals with the breakup. we also have mention in one of the articles about the possibility of them working a scene (as in accident, fire, etc) and things being awkward. 

based on all of that prior information, (along with Josh’s speech in 806), when I saw the preview for 807, I was very quickly one of the people who was like “this is being done for angst. this is not the end of BuckTommy”. 

My theory actually ties into (if we loved each other once) could we love each other twice, my latest fic. We don’t have any close-up shots of the person on the crane in the episode. We have the PA (or whoever he is) telling Bobby “there was an incident during filming, he fell and passed out”. Within the confines of me feeling like what’s happening is all a swerve on us, that line might not be entirely complete.  I’ve theorized that the 217 is already on scene, and Tommy is the man hanging on the crane. 

Why, you ask? 

When is the last time we saw someone hanging from a crane? (Buck, lightning strike, if you’re playing the long game, kids). Why bring that back if it’s not intended to be paralleled in some way, the very way they have been doing with this couple from the jump? 

We also have the voiceover of who we (aka as me and the two people I’ve actually written this all out for) assume is Oliver/Buck yelling “no no no no no!” in a panicked tone. For me, when I follow that line of logic (through 806 forward), things feel really clear. 

Now I hadn’t considered the idea that they might actually kill Tommy off until today, but let’s go with the idea that they’re not. Everything that we’ve been given from 710 on starts fill in a really beautiful plot going into the midseason finale for these two. 

Tommy is hurt. If the lightning strike is mirrored as I assume it is, the scene in reference will happen right about the end of 807. 808 will likely be some kind of other story (on purpose). I don’t think at this rate, we’ll actually ever get a Tommy Begins, but the title of Sob Stories really feels compelling to me on how they could do a version of this. Or a version of Tommy seeing what Buck’s life would be like without him, or any other version you want to think up. 

You suddenly get all of these breadcrumbs lined up really nicely into these episode. 

-Tommy’s dad can be presented to us. This also presents an opportunity to explain why Tommy feels unworthy/scared/etc of moving forward with Buck. 

-“people make life worth living”; “especially when things go wrong”. This would be something going very wrong. this would present them with an opportunity to give the payoff that we’ve wanted to see Tommy receive since 710, being accepted into the family he has always felt outside of. 

-“do you love him”. I think part of the break-up storywise being important for Buck is that it requires him to really dignify how he feels about Tommy. Another thing that this theory does is put them in a positon to really face the issue of remembering that life is not permanent. They can very much so end up without one another. And yes, shit already sucks being apart because Tommy broke up with him. But this brings to light the idea that, not only could they just be broken up, but that one of them could die and not have had whatever time they have left (especially given their career of choice) with one another. I think if you really lean into the parallel of the coma dream for Buck, it gives Tommy prime opportunity to learn why he’s afraid. Whether this is done in the form of a coma dream like buck, or like TK’s was with his mom (that feels more accurate for me with Tommy, meeting his mom, etc). 

—I’ll also include the aside of Gerrard being around could also be an interesting addition to the story. 

I can even see this feeding into whatever issue Buck runs into with Eddie in the coming weeks, whether it’s him still being upset with Tommy over the break up and Eddie saying Buck doesn’t have the full story, or Eddie thinking that Buck is giving in too easily after seeing him hurt. (Or that could be none of all of this). 

As for the interviews that are concerning, I do have somewhat of an answer to that too. 

I feel like on some level, Lou had to know that the fangirlish one was with someone who is fully behind Buddie and knew about the crap he’d been through. That interview didn’t have clear cut answers quite yet, and that one has me with this answer: nothing of what he said would necessarily be a lie.

He’s working on SWAT right now. Actors always have opportunities in front of them. He may have things that could affect how 8b goes, regardless. I have questioned whether he went into that interview with the discussion with the powers that be basically being like “don’t lie. but you can have fun with it, too.” 

In terms of the others, I haven’t read every single article out there, but I know we hold a general lack of understanding about the fact that the “exit interviews” just feel weirdly un-exit like. I’ve read millions of them at this point due to Greys Anatomy. And as it’s been said, you never see people asked about coming back; in fact you usually get a lot of "what's next" instead. We don’t get a whole lot of clarity of what’s happening with Buck next, beyond “new hobbies” “family time” “dealing”. 

That all said… I don’t know. I know the theory has legs, even though it takes shots from the articles we’ve been given. I started out with a lot of hope weighing into this theory. Now I’m not as certain. But I am someone who holding out hope that some version of a swerve is happening and it was just written really fucking poorly (and at the worst possible time known to queer men and women).

I have thousands of buddie fics bookmarked and I can honestly say that I’ve read a good majority of what’s on ao3. That means I’ve come across Those lawsuit fics (you know what I’m talking about) and all of the fics that manage to center buck as the victim of many scenarios that had nothing to do with him. Let’s not forget the collection of buddie fics that had the most vile racist shit in the aftermath of 5x04 and the ones that have eddie abusing buck for no reason other than to make him some uwu victim.

And just to be very clear, the infantilization of buck took center stage when a bunch of people decided to clutch their pearls over the dinner scene in 7x10 when this man has a history of stealing municipal vehicles to fuck and having semi-public sex on the regular. Even in the last damn episode people were lashing out at tommy AND eddie for not babying buck to their satisfaction. The majority of that wasn’t coming from the bucktommy side of the fandom, folks. Are there a few bucktommy shippers that do/say/write awful shit? Yeah. But unless you as a buddie shipper are willing to take responsibility for every single rancid take in the buddie tag both here and on ao3, I’d suggest that you stop trying to lay generalizations on the entire bucktommy fandom and expecting us to do what you won’t.

Now that I finally finished that multichapter fic I think it's time to self-promote my Bucktommy collection on ao3 once more. They all take place in the same continuity and are sorted chronologically, but each story can be read independently.

"But in this life I met you" is about Tommy who, some months into his relationship with Buck, starts questioning his and Eddie's respective places in Buck's life. (3.6k, Bucktommy endgame, I repeat Bucktommy endgame. Yes, Buddie is mentioned and Tommy is a little insecure about it, but no romantic Buddie.)

"Tommy meets Evan" is a very short oneshot about the first couple of meetings between Tommy and Buck. (Tommy's pov, 1.3k. This is mostly me trying to get into LFJ's head and understand certain acting choices.)

"Most people call it falling in love" is yet another oneshot from Tommy's pov. He's being very normal (read, freaking out) about how much he likes Buck after only three months of dating and goes to Henren for advice about it. (feelings realisation, 3,7k.)

"Love and Lack thereof" is the multichapter fic I just finished this weekend. It's basically a "Tommy begins" type of story. Covers his childhood, his time in the army, his coming back to LA and finding a place for himself until he eventually meets Buck. (6 chapters, sort of angsty but in a very grounded / realistic way as I'm told. 28.5k.)

"I wouldn't know what to do with myself" is the odd one out, sort of, I wrote it before 7x10 aired. In the hospital Buck and Athena sit together for a while and wait for news on Bobby. They talk about all sorts of things while waiting, including Tommy. (ngl this one is more about Buck&Bobby than Buck/Tommy, but I included it anyway. 2.5k.)

I was also working on a story where Tommy and Karen bond and have a conversation about kids and the foster system, but I got sidetracked and wrote the Tommy origin story instead. (Both projects feature Tommy as a former foster kid.) Might still continue this though.

I have an almost finished proposal fic, but it's way too cheesy for my liking. I might need to edit that one a few times before I deem it worthy of publication. (I know the show itself is also very cheesy, at this point it's almost a soap and I do enjoy the drama. But I prefer a hint more realism in my own writing.)

Then there's this break up / make up story I've been thinking about non-stop, this is maybe my favourite wip right now. It needs a lot of work though, I would really put Buck through the wringer here.

thinking about buck getting a call in the middle of the night about bobby and athena, and tommy is still asleep beside him and buck has to get to the hospital but decides not to wake tommy and instead leaves a vague note or text. later tommy texts or calls before he shows up at the hospital and he's worried about bobby and athena of course but he's also worried about evan and why he didn't wake tommy and buck is just like: i didn't wanna bother you/i wasn't gonna drag you out of bed/you had a shift and tommy's heart breaks for this kid but he's also kind of exasperated because of course evan should have woken him and of course tommy would have accompanied him to the hospital and of course he'd be there for his boyfriend. and suddenly buck believes it, he knows tommy wouldn't hesitate, that tommy cares - not just about him but about his family - but buck's past relationships have ingrained in him a need for emotional self reliance bc he hoped for too much from them and it always left him wanting and hurting— but tommy is different, he's good for buck - bobby said it. so he says: i'm sorry and just kind of.. crumples, breaks into tears and lets tommy wrap him in a secure embrace as he falls apart in another hospital lobby. but at least he knows he's not alone.

After-Post dinner scene in 7x10 and my first actual smut fic. I need to get better at writing smut, I think, but I still really like this one.

In the Wind-Tommy saves Buck from the side of a cliff. This was written for Bucktommy week and I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort.

Andrew, They're Husbands!-my outsider POV fic for bucktommypositivityweek and I just love it so much. This takes the point-of-view of my OC probie Andrew as he tries to figure out who the guy is that's standing awfully close to Buck.

i think we need to relax. lou isn’t a main, so it’s unrealistic to expect him to show up in every episode. honestly, i don’t even think his appearance in episode 1 was planned—since i read somewhere that tommy wasn’t supposed to be there at first and his scene was a reshot (but take that with a grain of salt).

also, having him in even for a few minutes adds to the production cost, especially for episodes 2-3 where it was decided that the story wraps up with athena landing the plane.

i’m sure when lou is important to the story (and trust he will since tim and oliver mentioned him positively in interviews), he’ll get his screentime.

so take a deep breath, let’s not stress too much. and if it’s really bothering you, maybe log off socials for a bit or read some fics from our talented BT authors to lift your mood. and don’t forget to take care of yourself. :)

yeah I read that the birthday party scene was reshot too - who knows. it does seem like they keep adding in these little bucktommy moments like the dinner scene in 7x10 and now this one to establish them (more) as a couple.

And Lou was a vision in a cone so no complaints here.

i was just a bit annoyed and disappointed that they have this brand spanking new firefighter PILOT and then don't involve him in the aviation disaster.

And yeah if it was up to me he'd be in every episode and getting as much screentime as Bobby and Athena in last night's ep (I know it won't happen but shh - a girl can dream)

I'm good though, don't worry, I've got bigger problems than one of my favourite fictional guys not being on my screen as much as I'd like.

And the fics of Buck riding... other things... than that motorcycle are plenty entertainment until Tommy is back!
