MePhone4: Heir of Time. Reason: Heirs change through their aspects, or change others through their aspect. MePhone4 changed most of himself over TIME (get it?) after he left Meeple, and the through all the time that passed through I.I it changed the contestants as well! Another thing is that Heirs are prone to losing themselves if their aspect influences them enough, which I would call “MePhone4 didn’t want I.I.I to end! He literally wanted time to slow down!” One last reason although it’s more of a joke reason, all the time travel stuff that I remember has been around MP4 (Marsh’s Time Machine saving him, and his time pausing abilities(although in this he would only be able to control how time effects himself, but since the contestants are a part of him I guess he could still pause them? Up for in-trepidation that bit)) His chumhandle is 'televisionGreenlit'.

MePad: Knight of Heart. Reason: Knights are devoted and reliable, notably good at assisting others, although that can sometimes lead to their downfall, due to being too trusting. They also keep to themselves and not share their own fears/insecurities. They are also known for serving others through their aspects, or with their aspect. MePad, right after Toilet apologized, forgave him, even though about a minute ago he tried to kill him (this isn’t Toilet slander btw I’m just saying what happened). Taco was similar, with her kidnapping him, and then MePad going all therapist mode on her, still wanting to help. And then, with MP4, even though MePad was probably still mad at MP4 for everything he’s done, he still willingly died for him. (ALSO THIS IS MY OWN CLASSPECT BUT THATS UNRELATED) His chumhandle is 'artificialAssistant'

MePhone3GS: Rouge of Hope. Reason: Rouges don’t take kindly to the labels that are thrusted upon them, and they usually would rather do things how they think is best. Because of this Rouges tend to isolate themselves, although not always of their own will. That doesn’t mean that they hate people though, as they are also known to form strong bonds with those who they care for. Rouges are also known for stealing their aspect, or stealing through their aspect for others. 3GS never wanted to steal the Shimmer eggs, but he had to because Cobs wanted them for a bigger, dare I say more hopeful project. He stole the Shimmer's hope, and gave it to Cobs instead. His chumhandle is 'changeableTruth'

MePhone4S: Prince of Space. Reason: (OH BOY CONTRACTOR GETS TO YAP ABOUT 4S STRAP IN FOLKS.) Princes are ones who destroy their aspects or destroys themselves through their aspect. They consider themselves capable, intelligent and reliable, and the thing is, they probably are. BUT because of their strong personalities they tend to come off as imposing to others. They also have the biggest egos known to man, while being some of the most insecure people you will meet. And my GOD this fits 4S perfectly. 4S has been shown to break space due to him killing MP4 in season one, if Marsh didn’t have the Time Machine I presume the universe would have more or less collapsed because of Cobs and maybe the Shimmers if they went at war against him. 4S was shown to be reliable at the end of season one while protecting MP4 from MP5, not letting him get hurt (YEAH THE BROTHERS EVER). He was also shown to be the cockiest guy ever/pos. 'angriestAssassin' can be his chumhandle

Steve Cobs: Gonna be a bit evil with this one and say Witch of Time (“b-but Witch is a female only class 🥺” SHUT UP IDFC CLASSES BEING GENDERED IS DUMB) The reason this is so evil is because the Active counterpart to the Heir (which is what MP4 is) Reason: Witches do not like wasting time at all, and would rather use their time/resources to further their goals. They want to bring changes they think are positive to the world around them, Cobs literally made the Me products for what he thought was gonna benefit the whole world and if that doesn’t fit idk what does. For the Time part, Cobs did have an obsession with making time go faster, hell he made a song called “The Future Is So Yesterday”, he wanted MP4’s show to be over so he could snag MP4 and use him for… whatever he was gonna do BESIDES continue I.I we weren’t really told in canon, maybe go to war with the Shimmers to get more eggs..? Idk we’ll probably never know. As a Witch of Time, Cobs (if god tiered) would gain the ability to speed up/slow down time for himself which was the oPPOSITE OF WHAT MP4 WAS DOING BC HE WAS DOING IT FOR OTHERS AND NOT EXCLUSIVELY HIMSELF I'M SO GOOD AT PARREALS CHAT.His chumhandle would probably be something like ‘technologicallyAdvancing’

Toilet: Maid of Doom (again breaking gendered classes LMAO). Reason: Okay so, Maids usually break out of the norm and seem really weird/unnatural to others. Toilet can literally fly, has no limbs, talks funny/pos and is a bit of an airhead/pos, also he is the only non MP4 made person who has an object name but that might be unrelated in canon. Maids bottle up emotions until they reach a breaking point where it all spews out. Toilet tried to KILL MePad because he was getting treated better than him from MP4. For the Doom portion, Doom players suffer a shit-ton really early, usually experiencing a lot of pain. On the up-side Doom players overcome their suffering first over all other aspects. Toilet seemed REALLY civil with MP4 in s2 ep18 (to me at least) even though MP4 was HORRIBLE to him. Putting it all together, a Maid of Doom would make Doom for themselves, trying to come out stronger than before. Toilet tried to kill MePad yak yak I already said this. ALSO FOR THE FUNNI’S, Doom players are usually related to technology, and one of the two(?) Doom characters in HS canon has a shit-ton of wires if I remember correctly. (love you Sollux Captor your so real) Toilets chumhandle would be something like ‘geneticAssistant’ (he and MePad have matching chumhandles awwwww)

Mecintosh: Okay this was hard because of us not having a lot of him in canon but I’m gonna say Seer of Void and I think I can pull it off here's the Reason: Seers are the class of sight, observing their surroundings A LOT. Mec was stuck in a closet for a shit-ton of time, It would be hard for him to NOT know what’s going on in there. Seers also have a bad habit of splitting the world into black and white/good and bad. This might be a stretch but he seemed to think of Suitcase's teammates as very one-note and flat with their intentions with her(?) For the Void part of his classpect, uhhhh, Void players are mysterious and secretive, and we don't know shit about Mec, also Void players are pretty apathetic and indecisive, which fits Mec!! These together, a Seer of Void would know basically nothing, besides peoples secrets, (so Mec knowing about 3GS’ past and what he was made to do, maybe??? If you squint at it?????) His chumhandle can be something along the lines of ‘closetsComputer’

Chapter 2: Introductions - Tim

Ch. 1

Hey Quinn,

I'm gonna be honest, I completely forgot that I put my info on that site. I'm not even sure how you found it because it must have been years old. Suffice to say, your letter was a bit of a surprise. Not that I'm complaining! It actually came at the perfect time. Oddly enough, I also just graduated and am planning on going to Gotham University in the fall. We can be buddies!

Besides, it's nice to hear from someone who isn't one of my brothers. They have a unique ability to pester the living hell out of me and I'm running out of non-relations to talk to.

So, official new best friend, I guess I should tell you a bit more about me too. I’m doing a double major in business and computer science at GU. A bit less noble than your career, sadly, but I’m mostly just doing it to help - Bruce - my father (it’s complicated) with his business. He doesn’t want to run it forever and I’m the only one of my brothers with any real interest in running a company. If I’m being honest though, I'd much rather just focus on the computer side of things and do something fun. Your video game sounds awesome and I seriously hope you'll let me play it one day.

I can also relate to your whole only child thing. Back in the day I was technically an only child too. Well, for the first half of my life at least. It's a really long, kinda traumatic story so I won't bore you with the details. But overall I get it. You don't have to worry about stereotypes here, just be yourself!

On to the questions!

Q: Why are you looking for a pen pal?

A: Well like I said, I actually forgot that I put my info on that website. It was so long ago, I think it was before I was even adopted. I probably did it because I wanted a friend, or at least someone to talk to. My childhood was, in a word, really lonely. I was a bit naive and probably hoped that by writing to someone I could fill some of that gap and find someone to connect with. (is this too emo? This might be too emo.) Anyway, back to the present. Now I’m just excited about the idea of starting school with a new friend - You're totally right about the ice breaker thing btw, we're going to have an awesome story. My other friends either live far away or are also going to out of state schools. How dare they abandon us like that?

Q: What are your interests?

A: I'll take your word for it about the questions, I don't even remember my login for the website to check. I promise I won't tell you how incredibly handsome and charming I am in real life, lol. (Can you say lol in a letter? I’m gonna do it anyway). Anyway, interests. Well, I kinda hinted that I'm a computer nerd already. My brothers would tell you that I constantly have my head in my laptop, which may or may not be true. I wish I was more of a reader like you, but I think that gene skipped me. I don't have the patience to sit still for that long. Other than that, I'd say I like finding new ways to be active. So far I've tried three types of martial arts, gymnastics, and yoga. I tried running once and immediately ended that. It's an awful hobby, 0/10 do not recommend. And last, but probably most important, would have to be coffee. I think my body has adapted to absorb it into my bloodstream. I might actually need it for my continued survival. If you ever need a recommendation for a cafe in Gotham, let me know though. I’m pretty sure I've tried them all at this point.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

A: I love your answer, but I have SO many logistical questions. Like, would you still age if time slowed? Are other people aware of the change in time? Do you stop it locally or everywhere at the same time? I feel like research needs to be done about this. I could write a whole paper on it. (sorry, nerd, remember?) As for me, I actually have two answers. The fake answer that I usually tell people is flying. You'd be surprised how much this question actually comes up in my life.I usually say that it would be so fun to fly like Superman and get everywhere faster and blah, blah, blah. But my real answer - since we're being honest with each other here - is that I think powers are overrated. I mean just look at Batman and Robin, they get along just fine without any supernatural help. Heroes like them show their strength through their training and dedication. That's the real power.

Ew, cringe, I just read that back and it sounded so lame. I'd rewrite it but I'm actually out of paper - the truth it is. I kind of went through a big superhero phase when I was younger - I guess it’ll never stop following me. If my brother Jason ever saw this I would never live it down.

I'm also incredibly sorry for my handwriting, it will be a miracle if you can read at least half of this. Surprise surprise, I usually tend to stick to keyboards. Maybe in the future we can email? It would be faster and maybe I'd be able to delete some of the cringy stuff I write without having to start the whole letter over again (which I definitely didn't do at least twice).

Alright bestie, it's been real. I have a parting question before I go though and I need you to really think about it because it WILL impact how I view you as a person.

to start off, to say i’m massively grateful would be an understatement. i honestly didn’t expect to start writing again after quitting like 5 years ago 💀 and just decided to write for boynextdoor on a whim bc they haven’t debuted yet and would probably need some writers on the blr 😎

i was really excited to try out writing again having been a ghost reader for so long HELP (i’m not proud) and fate just led me back to my ult seventeen!

when i wrote, i just wanted to get my work out there and published on the cloud, and the reception and friends i made along the way were certainly not on my bingo card but a welcome surprise nonetheless. i’m really, really grateful that people like reading my work and i’m sorry that i can’t push out fics regularly! i write on random spurts of inspiration and i have so many wips rn PLS i’ll do my best to publish them all soon!!!

But here’s the whole list of names and chapters just because

(Btw unless you kill the monster expect it to just slay itself like how in the actual game if you slay the princess yoru stuck in the voice until you do something and since all of them want to leave they just hit that slay button)

Chapter 1’s:

The hero (if you don’t bring the blade)

The captor (if you bring the blade)

The contrarian (step off the path)

Chapter 2’s:

Literally all the same as in the game minus ‘the voice of’ part

Chapter 3’s:

The Betrothed (I got plans for the smitten’s burned grey route it’s gonna be kinda crazy based on the name)((the voice of the damsel is just going to be hauling everything and since she’s controlling everything now, no sane decision will happen))

The Hunter (the hunted third chapter where if you die to his claws now the roles reversed from him being the scared animal to now being the one hunting the player)

The Empty ( if you kill the cold again or just go out and kill the cold after he asks to escape you come here similar to the spectre and wraith routes but less ghosting but still kind of not really tangible activity is happening)

The Bewildered (if for some reason you decide to hand the knife to the opportunist will stab you and like the witch did in the thorn chapter get so confused that he doesn’t even want to hurt you anymore he just doesn’t know why you did that or why he wants to hurt you anymore)

The Truth (basically the wild chapter)

The Rebuilt (the broken’s apotheosis, the voice of the tower is hyping up her new priest/pet/whatever he is to her)((do expect to be King Kong style yoinked by this kaiju and carried out this forest))

The Resistant (no matter how many holes you make in the stubborn body he somehow keeps getting up, he does not look very healthy after some point)((eye of the needle version of the stubborn btw))

The Savage (if you somehow screw up on the broken or stubborn chapters you end up here and like the fury in there game your options are ‘dying or dying’ goodluck, when the pristine cut comes out I’ll definitely update this)

The Cacophony (like in the moment of clarity for the paranoid all the voices are here.)

The Cheater (the cheated starts playing dirty therefore now a cheater idk what to say, it’s in the name)

Chapter 4’s:

The Winner (the cheated is the only one with a chapter 4 unless I add more later or the pristine cut comes out)

Also I wanted to add here that chapter 1 will always be grey (not the contrarian he doesn’t play by any rules anyways), every chapter 2 has added 1 color to the monster, chapter 3 has 2 colors in its monster, and every chapter 4 will add another color. I wanted to add some other elements of other monsters in it paralleling how in the og game the more voices you get each chapter. Like the betrothed will have some elements from the cold since that’s who you get if you kill the princess in the og game. Also some other additional stuff like extra eyes to look extra biblically accurate and because it’s hard to make a monster look more monster with each chapter so I’m doubling down on stuff like limbs and eyes so it looks kind of like there’s more than one in there

The voices for the third chapters like you saw with the witch in the current route the princess voices are also going to be swapped around to fit the personalities more.

Starting from the beginning: Last year my older brother gave me and my younger brother a Christmas gift that was a folded paper saying we’d do something fun together and he’d pay and that details would arrive soon. The details never came and I reminded him several times throughout the year. After awhile I suggested that the promised activity could be lunch/dinner and going to the cinema to watch a movie (which would be the same as we got the year prior as well). More months pass and it wasn’t until December 26th this year a date was set. The thing is that it’s gonna be a movie at his place and we might get some takeout. The food court we’re going to isn’t my thing, the food is okay and I can stand to eat it but nothing I’d ever pick if there options. I’ve also had a few bad experiences there bc my order has been wrong several times in a row (as in I get the wrong thing tell them, they make me something new that’s also incorrect). The best I can do is a Burger King around the corner from that place. I suggested another place before the current one came up but barely even got a response for that. I’ll admit it’s a little pricier but he’s already saving a lot (cinema prizes is pretty high where we’re at) by us not going to the cinema but watching something at his house. In total that would still be less than with the OG idea of eating and going to the cinema (or even just only going to the cinema).

It should probably be mentioned that my brother doesn’t really have money problems.

Idk the gift just kinda feels insufficient? For something I kinda have to actively chase and work to get so I can have something I’m barely content with.

It’s not really the first time I’ve had to chase him for things like this either. One year I got a gift card to an flying tunnel and we said we’d go together and I’d remind him and remind him and remind him until the gift card expired and we didn’t go. To be clear he also had a gift card there he’d bought for himself that also expired. I also paid extra (80% of the gift card sum) to prolong it, reminded him and it still got expired.

On top of this he promised my mom that he’d fix the electricity in a she has building 5+ years ago. It still hasn’t been done. Taking in another electrician would cost 3.000$ min. Plus an add on for the whole figuring out the parts my brother did do before he stopped. No one else knows about the stuff but him and can read even read the notes much leas understand them. Since then this building has been turned into an apartment and I’ve lived there for about half a year. My fridge runs on a huge extension cable and my washing machine on two. I don’t have any real lamps and really no options. (I’ve been unemployed for months now.)

However my older brother is a nice/kind person. Just forgetful and constantly juggling fifty things simultaneously and can’t always say no when another gets added. He’s been burnt out at least twice. (This is almost 80% his job btw, they keep adding stuff for him to do despite him having enough overtime hours at this point for over a year in vacation time achieved in about 3years time). Then he decided to start a church with his friends and that’s also something that drains his energy. It’s not weird that he so often drops some of those balls he’s juggling.

My younger brother doesn’t really care. He doesn’t seem to expect more than this from our older brother. That we even got anything at all in the end is a bonus to him.

I’m not sure if I’m being petty or not. I Love my brother and he loves me and all that. However this is is something I might carry with me for a long time because my memory doesn’t let me forget things like this no matter how hard I’ve tried. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts please share.

17. What are some headcanons you have about Tech?

oooo ok i found a couple in my notes app:

When watching a movie, Tech can get bored pretty quickly and usually ends up finding the space wikipedia page on it and listing off random facts about its production as they watch. Him and Echo often get into debates about how the SFX was done.

Less of a headcanon and more of a “what if”, but if Anakin ever piloted the Marauder, Tech would reluctantly agree that objectively Anakin is a pretty good pilot, but he’d grumble the whole time about him “messing up his systems.”

Tech has tried time and time again to convince Echo to let him weaponize his cybernetics. The strategic benefit of hidden weaponry would give them a backup plan in the event that they were ever without their blasters, and Wrecker of course just wants to see it happen. Echo, however, remains adamant that no, he would prefer not to sleep with a functioning rocket launcher in his scomp arm, thank you very much.

Tech cannot tell directions. He constantly has maps pulled up on his HUD, so he never gets lost, and no one ever questions it. But if he’s ever without his helmet or something? Oh. Oh buddy, he is lost in two seconds. You spin him around once and he has no idea what direction he just came from. Crosshair is more than happy to tease him about it.

Tech cannot dance. While he knows how to dance in that he’s seen tutorials and memorized the motions, he’s just so incredibly stiff that it’s actually abysmal. (It takes Phee a long, long time before she manages to get him to loosen up lol)

Fandom thinks he has a ten step skincare routine, tons of hair products, and spends forever getting ready? NOPE. The man uses 5-in-1 shampoo and washes his face with hand soap. He has no clue what the word “exfoliating” means. He dresses like a fisherman grandpa and thinks sunscreen is for fancy people.

Also, the fisherman thing is like my whole concept of Hunter lol. He sends this to Omega no context one day thinking it’s the funniest thing in the world (he is correct)

Ok, so, I have a question for you.

Some time ago (honestly, it might have been kind of a long time ago) you’ve been talking about Genshin and how you prefer when the mc is not the point of view character but just someone who spectates from afar while other characters living their lives/stories. Tbh I’m not entirely sure that it was the exact thing that you said, but at the very least, that’s how I’ve remembered it xD

(Not trying to put words in your mouth btw, again, that’s just how I’ve remembered it)

So, my question is: do you not like MCs, like, in general? Like I know that it’s a strange question and that mc from Genshin feels more like a self-insert (I think they get better as the time goes on, maybe they’ll be their own characters by the end of the game lol), so it’s strange to question whether or not you like MCs just based on this one answer, but I was wondering about it so I decided to ask.

I’m not gonna lie, I am (kind of) a main character truther, they usually end up being my favorite characters, and if I don’t like mc, then I usually drop the work as a whole (because I don’t want to consume something that’s going to anger/annoy me, and bc MCs are usually a huge part of the story, I would rather just not interact with the story as a whole. Kind of unrelated, but my hatred for Bak*go forced me to drop mha bc he started to gain more and more screen time, and even though he is not THE main character, I still think that’s a good example).

Like. I hope you don’t think that I’m looking for troubles or anything, but as a person who likes MCs and as someone who would rather drop the work if I can’t emphasize with them/don’t like them/feel like they are NOT treated or behave like main characters, I’m just interested in the perspective of someone who doesn’t care for those characters/don’t like them in general.

Well honestly I do tend to find MCs significantly less interesting than other characters. MCs tend to be the most generic character so that people can relate to them… thats just not how I read stories so it does nothing for me.

Like Naruto (& honestly the rest of his team) I found him (them) largely annoying and was always more interested in the stories of other characters with weirder powers (like Shino) & because I like more minor characters I Guess Im just more tolerable of their absence so long as the story is fun (Shino was probably THE most neglected of class but I stuck through Naruto until it wasnt fun anymore.)

But yeah especially in something like Genshin where Aether/Lumine are both the MC… and nothing really changes based on the character you pick... they arent a real character and what they do doesnt really matter because its just a stand in.

Like if you made QIQI the main character things would inherently change because she is her own character and the world would have to change based on what she might do. Her options to choose would be SO much different since shes a child and a zombie and w/e the world couldnt possibly be the same…. or CYNO would be interesting because hes got such a different temperament and also struggles with discrimination from being a desert dweller so there would even be more resistance... Hes basically got 2 personalities the quiet professional who keeps his head down and the goofy little meme boy who likes puns and YGO thats closer to who he really is and only shows to his friends (who hate it… OMG WINDBLUME IM STILL DEVASTATED LEARNING CYNO IS QUITE WHILE WORKING BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE RACIST AND HE ONLY JOKES WITH HIS FRIENDS BUT HIS FRIENDS ARE ACTIVELY ANNOYED BY IT AND DONT WANT TO HEAR IT…. IM SICK. …anyway.)

You can interchange Lumine and Aether and nothing changes because theyre not a real characters with their own personality so I just cant give a shit about them. The only thing that makes them tolerable is that its pretty clear Aether is supposed to be the main character canonically.

That said I wouldnt completely dismiss an MC just for being an MC…. some are interesting or serviceable enough to be somewhat likable. I love Luffy from One Piece, I like Tsuna from KHR and I did like Deku from MHA at first though recently he just feels like he doesnt matter at all (which normally I wouldnt mind since I usually prefer side characters stories but cutting screen time of Deku and focusing on characters who genuinely dont fucking matter or are terribly written like Endeavor or the side villains whos stories are forced and/or dont fucking MEAN anything… its frustrating. As much as I cant STAND Bakugo I actually wouldnt mind him having more screen time because he IS important to the story (or should be)… same with Todoroki but Bakugo is just a FLACCID and stagnant character and Todo was fucking wasted as Hori somehow thought itd be a better idea to build his abusive POS father without him present… DONT UNZIP ME NONNY. IM SO MAD…).

UM…. yeah. I didnt take offense or anything to the question… I actually love having an excuse to bitch about silly shit like this. Aw man, that post statement scene. It seems like it did something at least cause he says he's (feeling) better. But it’s not as nutritious as a new statement. And he’s needing more and more of the old statements. That’s also a effect of (some?) addicting substances. Getting accustomed to smaller doses and needing more to get the same effect as before. This is the only thing, which makes it seem like an addiction and not a need to survive. Though there are some indications that Avatars do need to cause fear to survive. “Feed your god, or it will feed on you” (MAG 89),  “Hopefully, he’ll fade away or burn out as they tend to when robbed of their purpose” (MAG 130),  “John Amherst was encased in concrete, and shrivelled away to nothing after just a few years” (MAG 184). Accepting less and less of old statements is probably just an effect of the Eye to bring him to get new experiences. And since there are some indications that also written statements given to the Archivist can cause those dreams (Dekker MAG 113, Salesa MAG 115) it will become more and more difficult to survive without harming others.

GODDD there’s so much I could say here but they’re all spoilers for stuff I’m working on….so, I’ll just say it was the moment she realised her Dad wasn’t coming home :)

Her earrings! Her regular ones are pretty plain (either black or gold depending on how I decide to draw her lol), but she always wears them. She’s a little paranoid the holes will close up if she takes them out, so she constantly has keepers in.

But other than that she just likes wearing them bc she enjoys accessorising and looking pretty, she doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to dress up or anything tends to wear clothing that’s more practical than it is pretty, so her earrings make her feel pretty even when she’s in work clothes

I think people have very much picked up on the fact that she looks a lot like Johanna - and she’s inherited a lot of her features! She’s got her big nose and tall build. Of course her similarity with Hilda is in their shared hair colour, it’s hard to say what other similarities they’d have since Hilda is still but a baby

I’m also gonna use this as an opportunity to discuss their differences! Bc their similarities are so clear I think the differences may be less obvious, plus some of them are recent changes as I’m midway through revamping her reference sheet but here’s a few -!

Lauren may have inherited her big nose from Johanna, but hers is actually a fair bit bigger

She’s a bit more…top heavy than Johanna is. She’s got a larger chest and smaller hips

It’s not hugely noticeable, but she’s a little shorter than Johanna too. I like the idea of Hilda growing to be just a little bit taller than her as well

Buutttt she’s much bulkier and more muscly! She’s a strong girl, she’s got big shoulders and arms and a thicker neck.

This doesn’t apply to canon designs, but I usually headcanon Johanna and Hilda as both having blue eyes, I like the idea of Johanna’s blue matching Hilda’s! But though I’ve gone back and forth a LOT, I think Lauren would have yellow or brown eyes (we’re just pretending yellow is a normal colour for eyes to be ok)

I think she’d probably have a few scars too, though I probably wouldn’t include them in her canon design as it seems like too much for Hilda’s design conventions. But yk, she’s an outdoorsy person who does a lot of physical activity, I can very much see it happening

I think her hair is just ever so slightly curlier than Johanna’s, not by much, but a little

That’s all I can think of in terms of physical features, but that brings us along to traits! Lots of fun shared ones here -

Like with her big nose, Lauren got Johanna’s social anxiety passed down to her, only amped up to a million. Poor woman can barely get through a conversation with the mailman when she first moved back to Trolberg, but she gets better with time

She shares Hilda’s love of the wilderness and the outdoors to an extent, she’ll always chose her family over adventure (though it was a close call that one time…), but she really is in her element roughing it out in the wilderness

When making or headcanoning for Pearson family meme gets I like to give them a creative trait, like one part of art they specialise in - Johanna is a Graphic Designer of course, Hilda enjoys sketching as a child but my personal headcanon is that when she grows up she’ll be a wildlife photographer, so that’s the one I’ve got her as. Lauren however is a painter! It’s just a hobby, and not one she indulges in much, but she finds it relaxing to just paint landscapes and still lives.

I don’t think this counts as a trait, but I’ll include it anyway - she was a sparrow scout and she LOVED it. She didn’t earn quite as many badges as Johanna, but she came close! I may have smthn planned out involving her becoming a Raven Leader someday too

Again don’t know if this counts as a trait but she likes board games, same as Johanna and Hilda. She’s not very good at most of them though, she usually ends up spending all of monopoly in jail

12 - Who initiates kisses?

Early on, it’s almost always Giorno. He knows Fugo needs time and patience, but doesn’t always vocalize what he wants out of insecurity, so he takes initiative (which Fugo doesn’t mind, because it reassures him that, yes, Giorno loves him and actively wants to be affectionate with him). Both of them will ask permission verbally, too. Giorno started this trend before their first kiss, straight-up asking “may I kiss you?”, and Fugo picked up on it, too, even though he’s way less suave about it – he’ll fumble his way through the question, but Giorno figures out what he’s trying to ask pretty quickly. Eventually, they learn to read each other well enough that they don’t need to ask every time, but they still will, every now and then, so they know they’re not pushing each other’s boundaries.

I like to think Giorno would, for similar reasons. Giorno’s probably the first to think it, too – I love the idea that he’s the one who falls in love first. @aromantic-giorno put it perfectly – Fugo devotes himself to Giorno first, and Giorno falls in love with Fugo first.

Actually, now that I think of it, I think it’d be funny if they accidentally said it at the same time. Like, they’re having a cute moment where they’re laughing together, or sitting and looking at each other or something, and they both just blurt out “I love you” and stare in shock for a second.

So, while on Aro’s end it was a case of “did the gods just give me my very own Enkidu?”, for Carlisle we must look at the circumstances. The Carlisle Cullen who walked into Volterra is not the Carlisle Cullen who works at Forks General.

Carlisle was a demon-hunting priest who brought his religion into his new life. Having no idea what he’d just become, apart from the obvious things like “I desperately want to kill people for their blood” and “I sparkle?!”, many of the things that are obvious to us would not be at all obvious to him. His only experience with other demons was the slum-dweller that killed him. It was brutal, and three other people from his parish were murdered as well. He’d been able to track the vampire down, something I can only take that to mean that the vampire used his parish for hunting grounds. He’s so horrified by what he’s become that he tries to destroy himself. This fails, and instead he finds a way out that lets him live without having to kill, and with that comes to the realization that vampires retain their souls (which is for another post).

My point being, Carlisle wakes up as a demon, and has no way of knowing how any of this works, nor of how to explain the fact that he is able to retain his soul. It’s telling that even after centuries of being a vampire he still thought something might be fundamentally different about him, as he chose to turn Edward by simulating his own transformation, even though it meant more pain for Edward. In other words, Carlisle was not guaranteed that his experience was universal. By the time we meet him in canon he’s wonderfully friendly to everybody regardless of what they eat, but I strongly doubt he got from point “Demons are monsters and I’ll rally a mob to lynch them!” to “Vampires are people who sadly eat other people.” right away.

So, you have freshly immortal Carlisle Cullen wandering around Europe with no way of knowing that other vampires are as (for lack of a better word) human as he is. How can they be, when they choose to eat people? (My personal headcanon is that he went by a Persephone theory, and figured that by resisting human blood he’d remained a man.)

It was this Carlisle who met Aro and the other Volturi. According to Edward (I unfortunately don’t have Twilight with me so I can’t quote his exact words), they were the ones who showed him that vampires can in fact be sophisticated.

Sophisticated. Not just as in Aro, Marcus, and Caius eat their virgins with some fava beans and a nice chianti, but as in they’re civilized and intelligent beings. Carlisle was no longer a one lone freak who somehow retained his soul while everyone else went full Buffy vampire, or any other such theory. I can’t even imagine the impact that must have had on a young Carlisle who would have been even lonelier than the Carlisle who found Edward in Chicago. That Carlisle at least had friends, this younger version had absolutely nobody.

Aro changed that.

More than being sophisticated, Aro turned out to be a kindred spirit, an absolutely brilliant mind and a generous host. Carlisle chose to live with him for decades, leaving only because of their dietary differences. And even if people disagree with me with all of the above, I don’t think anyone can argue that this one isn’t huge.

Of all the people Carlisle knows in canon, Aro is the only one he stayed with just for Aro’s own sake. Carlisle loves the Cullens dearly, but the cornerstone holding them together is their shared diet, and the fact that Carlisle turned four of them, the other two joined. He did not happen upon them and then like them so much that he decided to move in. As for his other friends, he cares for them all, but he didn’t share decades of his life with them.

Regardless of how we’re interpreting their relationship (as in, platonic, UST, or raging homosexual affair), I don’t think anyone can dispute that Carlisle and Aro are each other’s best friends.

But beyond proving that vampires aren’t all sewer-dwelling, priest-eating rascals, what exactly made Aro so special?

I’ll just list his qualities in no particular order.

Sophistication This guy is a lover of the arts and of knowledge. His gallery and library must have been the most extensive and diverse in the world, and it probably still is. I can’t even begin to imagine the wealth of knowledge and treasures that Aro must have collected over the years. If the Holy Grail exists within the world of Twilight, Aro has it. Where I’m headed with this, is that not only would Aro’s collection be the coolest thing ever to Carlisle, but also that this was a time when the number of books and an art collection was a sign of high class, of intellectualism, of all things fine and noble that was considered virtuous. Aro acts very much like wealthy European nobility, he even lives in Italy, the cultural epicenter of the Western world of old. He physically could not have been more impressive to Carlisle.

Kind of a continuation of the previous point: Aro is from Ancient Greece (well, he’s Myceanaean, but same difference to a “You predate Homer?!” starstruck Carlisle). Ancient Greece was the ultimate, perfect, civilization to Europe, and Carlisle got to Volterra just ahead of the Enlightenment. This alone would have made him so unbelievably cool to Carlisle.

Nerd I think this one speaks for itself. Carlisle is an unbelievable nerd, an inquisitive mind who’ll study anything and everything, and in Aro he found someone who also has an inquisitive mind and will study anything and everything. They’re both very intelligent. Carlisle went from being that sad whale that sings on a frequency no other whales can hear, to having someone who just got it.

His gift So you’re all gonna have to stay with me on this one. Aro’s gift is one most people would find very invasive, which as I touched upon in one of the posts linked above must be very isolating. And yet we know from canon that Carlisle has no problem at all with Edward reading his mind all the time, and more, if Aro reading his mind was a problem then Aro and Marcus would both have known, and I doubt their friendship would have worked out. So, I think that Carlisle not only didn’t mind having his every thought read, but that this was an actively good thing. Because what is less lonely than the company of one who knows you as intimately as you know yourself? To be friends with Aro is to be truly understood, known more deeply than anyone else can ever know you. And to someone who seeks companionship as much as Carlisle does, I imagine this is an extremely attractive feature.

Offer of friendship Carlisle would have been hopelessly lonely when he met Aro. And as no one else is mentioned as being close to him, Jane hadn’t even met him which I find pretty telling of how he interacted (or didn’t interact) with the Guard, and he wouldn’t yet have any of his other friends that he later made, he only had Aro.

He enforcers a law that keeps the known world from descending into chaos Human civilization wouldn’t last a day without the Volturi. There would be nothing stopping vampires from taking out entire villages in one go, immortal children would be everywhere, and the newborn armies would spread like wildfire. In the world of Twilight, the Volturi are a necessary evil. And Aro is their leader. The fact that he not only keeps the world together, an ungrateful task with no end in sight, but had the idea to create a law in the first place would make him all the more amazing to Carlisle.

And I’m sure there’s more that is currently slipping my mind.

Just, Aro is on every level the most impressive, awe-inspiring, and dare I say dazzling, that anyone can be to Carlisle. And he came into Carlisle’s life at the best possible moment. If he’d agreed to do the animal diet, Carlisle would have stayed. If he wanted to seduce Carlisle, I think he’d succeed. I also think that their time together was far more formative for the person Carlisle became than anyone gives Aro credit for.

(And if Carlisle had never found anyone who’d share the diet, he would eventually have returned. I imagine Aro thought the same, but that’s for another post.)

Oh, and last bit - in Breaking Dawn we get this beautiful moment where Carlisle learns that Aro robbed the British royal family, and he just goes, “yup, that’s my guy”. Even after Eclipse, he remains fond of Aro. I mean, there’s also the fact that he’s been lugging around this giant painting for centuries, even at a time when he didn’t have a house and I can only speculate as to where he was keeping it.

Of course, over the course of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn everything goes to hell, but that’s for another post.

TL;DR, Carlisle went from a priest’s son to living with an evil vampire overlord for decades because he’s just that great, in the present he keeps a giant painting of him in his office. I feel it’s safe to assume he likes the man.

marriage and birthrate in the empire

like with many cultures and societies, the empire has its customs and norms when it comes to things like marriage.

for the vast majority of ppl in the empire, sith or imperial, monogamy is the most common type of marriage seen. and within monogamous unions the couple can be of any combo of gender or sex.

for simplicity’s sake the color code is as followed: RED, female BLUE, male PURPLE, trans/nb/intersex

those in higher castes have more stipulations, considerations, and thought put into their partners rather than those in lower castes who can casually hook up with whoever they want.

another type of marriage that is seen, though not very commonly, are polygamous marriages.

with a poly marriage there is the head of house (crown icon) and the spouses/consorts (no crown).

these unions are typically only seen among sith families with prestige and history, but it’s not completely unheard of for some imperials to have them as well.

a monogamous marriage can turn into a poly one. if the head of house is like “hey, there’s this person i met... and i kinda like them? maybe if you vibe with them, i can bring them into our union?” and their spouse says “cool beans.” then yea, more spouses lol.

within a poly union, all children must be of the head of house’s bloodline. and the children produced with the first spouse (grey box) become the household heir(s)... usually.

and while all of the spouses/consorts may be married to the head of house, any/all parties can engage in whatever intimate activities they want with each other. the only “unacceptable” thing would be to produce any children that does not involve the head of house.

so you could have two husbands or wives that are way more into each other than the head of house. and it’s all seen as totally cool and fine. such attitudes however are more common among the sith than with humans.

now speaking of heirs.

for those in the upper castes, having An Heir of some sort is important and kind of a big deal. it’s part of the reason why getting juuust the right marriage partner is so important. it’ll usually be a thing the families discuss and negotiate over months or even years.

it’s serious business... lol.

but regardless of type of marriage (monogamous or poly), there is the one getting married (crown) and the one being married off (no crown).

those that are married off take the family name of their spouse and all resulting children of the union have that family name.

with the children you’ll either have an heir or a chosen heir.

in the GREEN circle up above you have an example of a plain, regular heir. that is to say, the firstborn.

in the ORANGE circle you have a chosen heir. not the firstborn.

there could be a myriad of reasons on why the family decided on a chosen heir over a regular one. maybe the oldest kid is a dumbass and fucks up. maybe they died before getting married. maybe the kid didn’t want that responsibility. etc.

again, as we move down the caste ladder, the less and less important all these inter-familial details become.

most “common” folk simply hook up with whoever they like, have kids, and their kids go off and do the same. they may not even take on their spouses name depending on how much they care about that.

just on a side note, if the married couple isn’t capable of producing children by themselves modern medicine and technology can help. or if the option exist, they could go the old school, natural route.

for example, among same sex sith couples (PINK rectangles) they will look for and hook up with other couples and... help each other out.

these unions don’t happen too often since they’re only there to make the babies and go on their way lol. though, the two families could stay connected and friendly if they wish.

now this is a lot of pomp and circumstance to get some babies! and you’d be right lol.

bringing in some REAL LIFE FACTS lol, but here’s how things went down and are going down for ppl irl on earth.

you see everywhere on the planet, before the advent of industrialization, you had populations like this.

all the babies. so many babies. but not too many old folk. 

and it’s obvious why. no birth control, lack of modern medicine, famine, diseases, wars, etc etc etc. a lot of ppl died before getting ripe and old.

nowadays, or at least among the Wealthy Industrialized~ nations, it looks something like this.

but in short... yea. birth control, women being educated and being allowed to work means they don’t have to just pump out kids. (which is GOOD btw). and the fact we have a lot more food and access to medicine means more ppl are living longer.

this ofc, is leading to Actual problems tho. bc if you don’t have enough New Ppl to replace the Old Ppl... yea, there will be some societal issues. now, i’m so nOT an expert but imho countries like the US could off set this by... immigration. by letting other ppl into the country to make up for a declining birthrate... but i digress!

within the empire you could have something like this during wartime where you’d have a portion of your adult population go off to fight and probably die.

but the IDEAL is this:

a perfect square of population if you will lol.

as older generations age out and die off, you have newer generation to fill their roles and keep the imperial dream going.

now unlike some modern countries irl that do a terrible job of trying to incentivize young adults into having kids (we all know who lol), the empire aids and supports parents 110%.

paid leave (for both), govt run daycares and schools so that when the kids are old enough to go to those the parents can focus back on their work. either tax breaks or monthly allowances from the govt to help pay for the kids. and usually, extended familial support is more common in the empire. so the question for most ppl in the empire isn’t “do you want to have kids?” but rather “when are you having kids?”

if however someone just vehemently opposes the idea of being a parent, there is no down side. the empire will not force parenthood on ppl since that’s a terrible idea for everyone involved.

that’s basically it... a more informal and jumbled post i know lol.

a few side notes?

teen pregnancy isn’t really a thing. if it happens the attitude is “you’re basically a child so no, you’re not gonna have baby.” (abortion is seen as a health service)

when imperials join the military at 20 (the legal adult age in the empire) everyone, regardless of sex, gets a birth control implant. bc having a lot of young adults close together... ppl are bound to get horny and you don’t wanna have the possibility of anyone having kids in inopportune circumstances so yea. they can have the implant removed whenever their mandatory service is done and get straight to making babies if they want lol.

children born out of wedlock def exist. very frowned upon in upper castes. not really a big deal with lower castes.

can you adopt kids. yes. and unlike rl where you have to pay lots of money, you don’t really pay anything. but the govt will require a lot of forms and check ups and visits and etc etc.

can adopted children become house heirs? yes. if that is the wish of their parent.

god the drama and tropes there must be in their media... “well your father is a lesser consort, so how bout you stfu!” “D:<”

are there “pure love” marriages in upper castes? yes. but a lot of drama revolve around those depending on who is the one being married off.

also, sith can and have been totally disowned if they decide to marry someone without their family’s approval. (this is serious business for them! lol)
