I believe this will be the very last Static-X album to feature original music by the late Wayne Static, near enough 10 years on from his death. In a way that’s very fucking cool because stuff he wrote 10 years ago are still maintaining his legacy long after he’s left us. However with that being said does that mean this is the end of it all? 8 albums and a quarter century long career done?
Their sound for me cannot be mistaken, this is still clear right away on “Stay Alive”, straight away the crispy riffs are there, it’s steady in pace and is the sort of track I’d show someone if they asked what Static-X generally sound like, it’s good and crunchy with electric buzzing through it. In the undertones of “Jic Boi” I can hear similar tones to “Cold”, it’s not quite as legendary as that but it’s got a bit more chaos and contrast which is what I like to see. “Z0mbie”is possibly the best here for me, although the chorus is giving me Wednesday 13 vibes just with an industrial accompaniment. “Dark Place” sounds so familiar to one of their older songs but I cannot place which one, that seems to be a feeling that’s cropping up a lot with this album. “Take Control” is much more quirky and odd much to my pleasure, the type of song you’d imagine an industrial goth on E’s would be all over. I think a problem present here is a lack of being musically punched in the face, “Kamikaze” and “No Hope” are higher on the pace cannon and have bit of a slap and sting to them.
Now that this is a the last of Wayne’s works that they either need to stop or shake it up completely. This material I found to be lacking, like an album of Bside material that never made it to the albums. Not that it’s bad just that it’s not their best version of themselves, we’ve had our fun now and I think managed to give Wayne major props for his work, unless you can really smash something together that would really bring Static-X into the modern era then let it rest in glorious peace.

I agree that let me in is the best solo, haseul entered the studio knowing she made song of the century and outsang everybody!
I don’t stan fromis_9 but the b-side in their new album is so cunty, they definitely had drugs in the studio
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CVmltsgcJbY&pp=ygUPQXR0aXR1ZGUgZnJvbWlz
I KNOWWWW I miss loona so much we will never have a group as talented or interesting as they were. No one could replicate their lore and choreo ☹️ I’m glad I got to see them before everything went down
I’ve only ever listened to Fromis’ title tracks but this bside oh god… ITS SO GOOD

sorry I can't stop harping on this but like. The live version of wttbp on the bsides ep absolutely KILLS me because it is one of the first recorded live versions of the song EVER and people are like, messing up the single most iconic intro of the 21 century and laughing in the sparse akward silence. it sooooooo like it makes me cry sometimes look at how far you've come
#then theres also the metronome in the studio version but thats like. i never shut up about that. its such a human song with a human history#even the video. gerard gets on set for his crazyass fantasy death imagining and hes like. this is ground zero and i didnt even notice.#again the interplay of worldbuilding and honesty.... wttbp might be the most honest song about death through trying to create#fictionalize#anyway. song of all time!#my posts

hi okay, im back after not posting for like half a goddamn century. and i got into shit like fnf
but the rules stay the same that i draw what i want and i post when i want so just expect random bs that i like if u follow me randomly just slightly better drawn now ig
anyway i was browsing google at school for gay art, as you do and found this adorable art and was like "i need to draw it" its by @rito-neyy and i love the way they can perfectly draw pico and bee like how tf are u so perfect and amazing my guy
i wanted to give the bsides and neo versions of pico and bee actual outfits instead of being just recolours because thats always bothered me for some reason. especially with the neo mod because bf gets a new drip but pico dont like tf moders.

seventeen "face the sun" album musings
i got into seventeen in early 2020, right after they released fallin flower. i fell in love with the dreamy production style, the unparalleled attention to detail, how much emotion could be ripped out of a song so simple. the best way i can describe it is a one way ticket to the fourth dimension, and its a style of production ive found to become a signature of seventeen, found again and again all across their recent discography, albums full of pillows and cumulus clouds and thin little tendrils of emotion that weave through the dream and pierce your heart straight through. it's a style ive come to love, come to expect, even take for granted considering how much of a departure hot is from what i just described.
HOT!
this song is to me, rather infuriatingly, equal parts business maneuver and brilliant introduction to the album and its general themes. the title of the album is "face the sun" and hot feels like, to a long time carat, getting your eyes peeled open on a hot august day until you lose all sense of sight. in a good way. what i'm trying to get at is "hot" was an eye opener in that it was so inherently different from what their music had focused on for the past few years. it was all so generally agreeable and listenable, downright fantastic at best and somewhat boring at worst. there was no going wrong with the little jig they had going on in 2020-2021 so at first i was baffled why they chose to make such a sharp turn in the noisy, robotic-mosquito-trapped-in-a-microwave direction. and they made a big deal of it too! all of the marketing for this comeback was stuff like "I am not seventeen anymore." like goddamn minghao im happy you announced those contract renewals early or you would have started a war!
but honestly on further thought it did feel like they were running out of steam somewhat by the time attacca came out. attacca was good by all means but it felt like some of the bsides especially were starting to tilt towards the boring end of my little seventeen music spectrum. so i conceded the change was necessary and the second i did that hot started HITTING. maybe i was thinking into things way too much but the album's packaging, naming, and music all started to come together in my head. "face the sun" is equal part's about seventeen's own bravery and ours in being able to accept a new artistic direction from them. they were shining the metaphorical sun in our eyes with the sheer power of cowboy noise music and i was enjoying the fuck out of myself!
so what do i actually think of hot. if i were to rate it i'd give it a good 7/10. it's not my taste but its a well produced song nonetheless. and what i meant when i said "business maneuver" up at the beginning is that the song sounds inherently very tiktoky. it's extremely catchy, easy to remember, has a cool and similarly easy dance to go along with it and crucially it sticks to the tonic like flypaper and does not let go. all hallmarks of a song designed to go viral in some capacity, which i understand. other songs on the album are much more adventurous and better songs overall but none of them have hot's staying power. at the end of the day title tracks are designed to get melon streams and music show wins and hot has accomplished both of these things perfectly while still being both a departure from their usual material and a decent song, which is honestly pretty commendable!
now its time to stop defending hot's midness and get to the good shit.
DON QUIXOTE!
i said something about the fourth dimension in the intro to this and well. we have escaped the limitations of the spacetime continuum. we have become omnipotent beings that live outside the walls of continuity and the laws of physics. the layered fluffy production is only there for half the song and the other half is this wonderful mix of rock and hiphop that i can only describe as 21st century cowboy. which is a theme we'll continue to see!
some little things i need to get off my chest mingyu has the most attractive singing voice in kpop nobody even comes close. that perfect mix of vocal fry and actual tone.. there is nothing better than a good mingyu verse caressing your ears when you're already enjoying a good song.
the instrumental break right before the last chorus irks me just a little bit. i do not think the song needs it and i think that space could be better used for a proper vocal bridge and buildup to a more bombastic final chorus.
big things! this song does this thing i really really like where the melody is in minor but the chord progression is all major. it creates really complex emotions and can be molded to a variety of musical needs. in this case it's used, along with fast and driving percussion to create an insane sense of urgency, triumph, and hope. i have no idea what the fuck don quixote had going on but this song has me convinced he was some crazy arsonist cowboy. if that's his actual description good job seventeen for making me visualize that with the sheer power of sound waves!
MARCH!
i do not understand korean. i do however understand the words like a cowboy! and that intrigued me a little because obviously this whole album is like cowboy town but this track invokes more pirates of the carribean than wild west. but barring that little dissonance this song is wonderful.
what i mean by pirate-y music is mostly the use of 12/8, the whistle/flute that pops up occasionally, the specific rhythm of the drums and the dynamic bass. but all this is combined with a wonderful mixture of rock guitar and more modern sounding synths and percs. the pickup before the chorus in particular goes crazy and i love the guitar there. i also really like how the bass is kind of omnipresent and only fades in the prechorus. its nice to have that kind of anchor point throughout a song that generally has a lot of shit going on!
speaking of which there is an unbelievable amount of stuff going on in the chorus. you've got several layers of percs, what sounds like two layers of moving bass, the flute, synth pads, guitar chords, and heavily harmonized vocals. handling that many moving parts is no small feat but seventeen pull it off every time and its one of the things that contributes to the ethereal feel of their music i described earlier. there's so much going on its very easy to get completely immersed in the song and its a technique that very few other kpop tracks replicate.
DOMINO!
this song pisses me off. just a little bit! the verses and the prechorus are so sweet and cute and happy and a breath of fresh air from the rest of the album and then the chorus shows up and is like fuck you we're back in minor now! and an anti drop at that! like of all the places you could go with that wonderful adorable ear candy build up you go to the place all kpop songs go to die. the minimalistic chorus. i looked at the lyrics too and there's no thematic shift that could possibly justify this! thankfully the track saves itself by very gently and gracefully leading back to the major sections but i remain peeved! the last chorus is wonderful why can't they all be like that! but i digress the actual good content is fantastic. it's wonderful and funky, it's got jazz rhythms and snaps and bouncy bass and everything that makes me want to get up and dance. its mostly modest but goes full out when it needs to and knows where its emphasis lies. and then the fucking chorus star- ON TO SHADOW!
SHADOW!
im very thankful this comes after domino so i can overcome the hatred in my heart and listen to music that fits my tastes perfectly!
but as lovely as the song itself is and trust me it is LOVELY i think the real hero here is the lyrics. it's all about accepting the dark, ugly, unhappy, maybe traumatized side of you through the allegory of running away from your shadow. the hook of the chorus is incredibly powerful, both in staying power and actual lyrical meaning. the english trans is:
"Shadow, My Shadow, My Shadow I Don't Want Others To See You Shadow, My Shadow, My Shadow I Hated You And Hurt You
Oh! Now I Know You Are Part Of Me Too I Don't Want To Hide You, I Want To Hold Your Hand Because Even My Darkness Will Shine Brightly Baby I'm A Shadow Of You" (from lyricsroll)
a lot of this section's power comes from the decision to have the hiphop teamers (ft. hoshi) sing it, all members with relatively deep and raspy voices giving appropriate weight to the most emotional section of the track. also mingyu most attractive voice in kpop the way in which they sing it also contributes to those emotions. the "shadow my shadow" is all belted out. hard. but the lines following that break into falsetto, giving the feel that the singer is very emotionally affected, maybe even crying.
i also want to talk about some of the basic theory of the melody here. essentially this half of the chorus ends unresolved, or on a note that is not the tonic. this gives the listener a feeling of tension, of unfinished business, and generally really wanting that note to go back to the tonic, mimicking how this first half discusses unfaced demons and unfinished business. when the lyrics of the second half brighten up, that note finally resolves, once again mimicking how here the narrator finds closure and acceptance of their darker other half.
it's listening to tracks like these that i really really wish i could actually understand korean. shadow is an intricate weaving of the written word and musical notes that is found very rarely in kpop. you can have fantastic lyrics and fantastic music but its when those two elements reinforce each other that you get a truly good track, and i understand that as much as i am praising shadow right now i still cant understand the full emotional impact of listening to this as a native speaker.
'BOUT YOU!
this song is so lovely and cute and simple and everything i wish domino could accomplish. it rides along happily on a lazy little four chord pattern and simple rhythm pattern with great melodic hooks in the chorus and adorable rap verses icing the top of the already sickeningly sweet cake! i cannot think of anything i dislike about something but i also cannot think of anything i particularly like. its cute, its objectively well produced, its easy on the ears but its kinda just There. its a nice song to space out to and write this review to but it doesn't have the same impact as some of their other, similar bsides like snapshoot. nothing quite there to sink your teeth into and really get immersed in. but still a nice breath of fresh air from the rest of the album which is pretty much all cowboy bebop soundtrack with the occasional mcr song. its nice to have a song you don't have to take particularly seriously or dissect down to the individual note to understand the emotional impact it has on you! although obviously i take great joy in doing that even the great zuhabear in all her music theory nerd glory has to take a break sometimes.
IF YOU LEAVE ME!
to make a ballad worth listening to for an international audience is ridiculous difficult, and im choosing to believe thats the reason why so few kpop acts can actually pull it off. the ballad inherently relies on that interaction between written word and musical note i described in that shadow section, and as international listeners we just can't grasp that. i think that's why we're always so baffled when we see kdrama ost #27 blocking our faves from getting that pak or rak or melon top 10 chart position. what could possibly be so good about some piano and violins and a good singer? we always fail to consider what we inherently miss out on as non-koreans.
unfortunately that's not a defense i can use on this. it is quite possibly the most generic ballad i have ever heard in my life, musically. like the music version of those fake people AI's make up; a smoothie of thousands of inputs that perfectly encapsulates the average of all those countless individuals. and that goes for the lyrics as well, all about a sad dude musing about the inevitable end of his romantic relationship. it was honestly quite disappointing because usually seventeen ballads can break the curse of the language barrier through sheer emotional interest. smile flower, pinwheel, almost all of vocal unit's discography are perfect examples of this. they forge a mutual understanding where it shouldn't be, they are the very definition of music as the universal language. you could be as far removed from the korean language as possible and the chords in the second chorus of smile flower would still have you on the floor bawling your eyes out. but there's nothing like that here; it feels like pure filler on every possible level, and i know they've done infinitely better with slower songs in the past.
that being said its not completely unlistenable or anything; im just being harsh because i know what they can do at their best so my expectations are ridiculously high. on the general standard of kpop ballads, this is actually pretty decent. it has a lot of harmonization and more moving parts, which prevents it from becoming a total snooze fest. i still love you woozi your amazing bro
ASH!
listening to this feels like the *touches the ground* "something terrible happened here" meme. its ominous, apocalyptic. the sun has shined, we've faced it, the volcano has blown, and all that's left on the scorched earth is ash and a few survivors who are ready to fly. its the first thing you think of when you hear "mad max". we've graduated from cowboy school we're riding through the desert in jacked out motor vehicles now.
for me this song is all about visualizing. you wake up in a strange place, a strange time, everything is off. there's no plant life, just sand and ash as far as the eye can see. you almost get killed by some rando on a motorcycle but get picked up by a suspiciously thirteen membered survivor group and they're banging this in the car. the worst case scenario is here and it is what you make of it!
this is like the polar opposite of my usual taste in music but i can't help but enjoy this because of the ridiculously specific fantasies it procures in my mind, the little pinballs of sound bouncing off my neurons and somehow creating an apocalypse au ao3 fanfic. if there's anything i enjoy it's a good picture!
CLOSING THOUGHTS
im a strong believer that you have to experiment in order to find truly good music. if you always stay in a specific musical niche you'll never develop and you'll be stuck in a perpetual rut of constantly being mid but never being truly good or bad. a lot of seventeen's latest releases have felt like spiraling towards that rut, which is why im so grateful for this album. face the sun is, in all of its sexy 21st century cowboy-pirate robot mosquito riding across the apocalypse glory, exactly what seventeen needed to continue growing as artists. there is some seriously good shit in here and there are some songs i cant stand! but the important thing is the good stuff, don quixote and march and shadow and ash and the good parts of domino are some of the best music they have ever released. and when you have a discography like seventeen's, expansive and iconic and seven years old, that's a serious accomplishment! im beyond happy they renewed their contracts and im looking forward to great new music from them :)

hiiii hannah🌺 here are some jisung pics no one asked for to brighten up your day hehe // also short q&a bc i’m curious <3
1. first of all, your voice is so angelic omg!! out of all the covers you’ve done, which one was your favorite?
2. who do you look up to? whether it be as a person and their life choices that inspired you or just some one you aspire to be artist wise
3. i remember faintly that you knew how to dance to 21st century girls by bts? i loved that song (unrelated but i wanted to say it hehe) which choreography that you know, do you like the most/ have the most confidence in if you were told on the spot to dance to right now?
4. how did you feel about twice’s comeback? do you collect nct albums or twice too?
5. and lastly, how are you today? stay hydrated and take care of yourself hannah!! <3
i already kNOW i’m gonna ramble so i am putting a read more😔
lisa hi!! first of all thank you for the jisung pics, i always appreciate them, no asking necessary <33 and a q&a! yessss☺️let’s go:
1. ah thank you ;-; hm i think this recent cover of traitor + one that i did of party favor are my favorites!
2. i really look up to jihyo, actually. the fact that she trained for so long without knowing if she would ever debut, plus all the criticism she faced among many other struggles, and she never gave up? that just makes me respect and admire her so much, and she makes me want to be more confident in myself :]
3. (yes! and i love the song too hehe) ooh🤨i think that at this very moment, i’d feel most confident dancing to either feel special or more & more by twice! i don’t know the whole entire choreos but i’ve got both choruses and dance breaks down!!
4. i really loved their comeback!! it took a few listens for me to really get into the title track because i know it’s not considered quite as upbeat or energetic as some of their other releases, but now that i’ve heard it more i think it’s very summery and chill (i live for their summer concepts😩) and the bsides are all amazing too! scandal is probably my favorite of those. and about albums, i don’t “collect” twice or nct (or any group for that matter) as in buy every version of every album but the majority of their recent releases i do try and purchase if i can! usually i’m able to pick just one version to save some money (but sometimes i just can’t help myself….hot sauce i am looking at you)
5. i’m okay :) there’s some personal/family stuff going on for me right now so i’m a little stressed tbh but besides all that, life is going fairly well i guess. and i will thank you!! please make sure you do the same, ily💗💗
#what a nice little q&a thank you love!! helped take my mind off some things <3#lisa🌃#mootbeams <3#sungie baby#instant happiness

Hi❤ i'm trying to stan fromis but i dont know where to start. Do you think you could tell me your favorite bsides and maybe some variety shows? 💕💚❤
omg yea of course!!
bsides:
coloring

mulgogi
22nd century girl
pinocchio
love rumpumpum
honestly i love a lot of their bsides but these are definitely my favorite!!
variety shows:
they don’t rly have that many variety shows but they have a TON of videos on their channel!! if ur ever at a loss u can always look at stuff on their youtube channel <3
the 100 (recorded before dkdk era)
fromis room - there are no legitimate links i can give but it’s pretty easy to find w/ a google search (recorded predebut, after idol school)
their idol room episode w/ loona
channel_9 in the house (recorded last year)
fromisoda - short, 1-3 minute long videos uploaded semi-regularly on their youtube channel (similar to loonatv)
and there’s many more smaller series on their youtube channel like efg, their year end awards ceremony, the “please take care of my brunch” videos, etc.
#there's plenty more to watch on their channel but the ones i listed are some of my faves!!#Anonymous

1 (for loona maybe), 5, 11 👀
1. For one or more of your favorite groups match each member to one of their songs (excluding solo stuff cuz that’s too easy)
ooo loona
heejin, girl’s talk
hyunjin, frozen
haseul, new
yeojin, rendezvous 18.6y
vivi, one way
kim lip, love & evil
jinsoul, rain 51db
choerry, you and me together
yves, sweet crazy love
chuu, chaotic
go won, loonatic
olivia, twilight
i decided to just shift the subunits so 1/3 > oec > yyxy > 1/3 to make it more ~challenging~ i have no idea how i did i think i’d have to think about it more
5. A song or album from a group you aren’t a fan of that surprised you? A song or album from a group you like that disappointed you?
surprising:
the boyz - bloom bloom (the choreo is soooooo good. bg’s don’t do cute as much but they really should!!! the boyz proved that cute songs can have complex choreo with this one. i really think the choreographer laced it with crack it’s really sososo good)
1team - vibe (cute chill bop of the century what can i say. if any bg just made this their entire concept i would stan forever)
golden child - wannabe (idk it’s just a bop. i was forced to do a dance cover of their song lady which i hated but grew to hate even more so the fact that wannabe snapped so hard was honestly shockingly delightful)
wayv’s awaken the world album (i mean i stan them but. i didn’t expect their first full album to be That good)
nature - girls (with nature i really just experienced wanting to like their songs but not, so it was really cool that this was my #1 gg song of 2020 for so long (it’s since been unseated for #3 BUT it’s still fantastic)
itzy - not shy & id ( i have nothing against itzy but their sound isn’t quite me? but not shy is my #2 title track of the year and id is one of my favorite gg bsides i was really happy to finally like an itzy album lmfao)
weki meki - picky picky & tiki taka (not current songs but they were onto something there that’s all i’ll say)
yeeun - barbie (not much to say but it’s a cute picky bop that i wasn’t expecting!)
disappointing:
red velvet - psycho, bad boy, and power up (queens of interesting and unique concepts but these ones just felt very...easy for them? like they weren’t as special as almost all of their other songs to me? this is just me but i prefer when groups experiment and you get a ~controversial~ song rather than them just doing something basic that’s easy for the gp? like i respect it as a strategy but rv has proved time and time again that they’re better than that so i was pretty disappointed in these songs. full disclosure i still listen to bad boy sometime though lmao)
seventeen - fear/ an ode/247 ( i’ve talked about this at length before but seventeen is my favorite bright concept boy group because they manage to do it without it being overly cute and nauseating. their choreo quality also doesn’t change at all and i find that to be really refreshing. fear isn’t my style at all but mostly i just didn’t want fear from svt? like they did super well with it i just don’t know that i would say it plays to their strengths. also, the whole album was kinda disappoint for me but the most disappointing part was that performance team did a ballad. like i understand them wanting to show their other talents and i commend them but. i wanted a dancey thot bop. on the bright side we did get network love which saved this album for me personally.)
ab6ix’s album B:COMPLETE ( i love ab6ix’s title tracks sm but i hate this album with everything in me. like literally the maddest i’ve ever been at an album)
onlyoneof - heartbreak theatre (it’s produced by cha cha malone and you can tell he gave them something from the trash pile. ooo do all these cute videos with their producers where they vlog the process and the pd talks about their thought process in creating the songs and about the boys and it’s really really nice to hear their perspective but cha cha is the only one who didn’t film one and you can literally hear why in the song. it’s so obvious that he didn’t really try to understand their sound and it’s their only song that actively takes away from their discography.)
there are literally soooo many more because i was very bitter about music last year but i’ll stop here lol
11. Favorite alternate language version of a song?
you know i’m sure that i have strong opinions on this but i can’t think of them lmfao
off the top of my head though:
uniq’s eoeo - the chinese version is 1000000x better
i get why they released svt jun & minghao’s my i was released in korean first but the chinese version has more ~sentimental value~ to me idk
exo’s chinese songs in general hit. like i don’t understand chinese so i can’t comment from that perspective but based solely on sound they don’t sound awkward and translated like a lot of other alt language releases? like i feel with many songs you can tell that it wasn’t written in the alt language but i don’t really get that feeling with exo’s stuff (and the rest on this list)
wayv/nct’s song comeback is better in mandarin but i’m hella biased so
omg that was long lmfao! but thank you sm for the ask!!! :D
send me a creative kpop ask! feel free to repeat because i have Opinions ;)
