I've already talked about how the way I read it, our Chuuya is the original and N faked his death and pretended he was (one of) the clone because Chuuya was "a miracle", the only successful attempt the lab made to create a controllable singularity... but I keep thinking of ways it could have actually happened.
I think maybe my most plausible explanation, considering all we know, is that Chuuya was volunteered by his parents, as they were affiliated with the army during the war and their son possessed a rare ability. His ability could potentially be a danger to himself, so it was a solution to both protect their country and their son.
After the war, they chose to live in a faraway quiet rural area, and are still together. Therefore, this wasn't a subject that divided them, and they wanted to be out of sight and out of mind from the government. Also, child Chuuya looked pretty nonplussed in that picture the Flags found of him with N; he wasn't bothered by that man.
Tumblr media
I go back and forth wondering if the boy we saw in the video was Chuuya himself or a clone that perished in the accident. Since the video cuts abruptly and we can only rely on professor N the liar to explain how things ended, it's a difficult question to settle. It's very plausible the videotape is documenting one of their failed attempts with a clone and a different activation phrase: his vitals really flatlined and he was absorbed into his own black hole, like N said. It was another failure to create a stable, reusable singularity (gravity manipulation, and further down, Arahabaki) by failing to maintain the gravity part and slipping into black hole territory unwillingly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe after the nth (heh) attempt, N lost patience and tried something with Chuuya himself... and miraculously, it worked.
Tumblr media
They were trying to create a fake human like Verlaine and ignoring ethical questions because it was the war and they were losing. With a working proof of concept, it was probably a half second of "is this a good idea" before N dropped everything and put Chuuya in the place of a clone, erased the evidence of that, and faked the boy's death (I'd guess by claiming an accident with his ability) to get the parents off his back.
Tumblr media
Rimbaud and Verlaine were sure they had a clone, and I don't doubt their research, but I doubt what was labelled prototype A2-5-8 was ever a clone/artificial human to begin with. Dazai agrees with me.
That doesn't really answer the question of what happened to Chuuya between getting in the lab and being turned into "A2-5-8". Was he running around, his only job providing cell samples for clone creation? Was he put in a sort of coma in a tube from the start? Was he getting visits from his parents? Had he had issues with his ability before? We don't have anything to suggest one over the others. It's anyone's guess.

Ulterior Motives
Tumblr media
A quick fic in celebration of me finishing this semester, and with one of my fav Tecchou frames (i love my husband mwah)
Scenario: Passing class is literally impossible when your professor has a nice ass. So in order to pass, you show him your tits
[Reader is an adult here. also NSFW warning but like it's really not explicit.]
This course had been a nightmare - it was the second time you had taken this class, and your second attempt was just 'barely passing'. Straight C grades across each test and paper, it almost made you want to scream.
It was nearly impossible to pay attention to your lectures when your professor wore tight pants and button-up shirts, like a whore. He was like candy for your eyes, walking around the front of the room and pointing at the board with his authentic Kyu Gunto sword.
Jesus. What a nerd.
How were you supposed to take notes on the history of pan-Asianism when he didn't even know how geeky he was? And when his shirt couldn't even contain his shoulders?
It was so distracting.
Of course you were close to failing.
Last semester had sealed your fate - you had failed so badly that he asked you to personally take the course again, discussing personal study groups and even asking 'Is everything alright?'
No, nothinh really was. But you can't go up and say 'Professor Suehiro, you're too distracting' when it's just his face.
Professor Suehiro was either ignorant or a masochist, forcing you to watch him stroll across the room and talk about the Russo-Japanese war with a warm voice; you prayed he didn't notice how much you shifted your legs.
Why did you sit in the front again? It wasn't a full class, half of them had dropped out throughout the semester, you could have always sat in the back if you really wanted to.
But god.
Every time you made eye contact and saw the spark in his eyes at the passion for his subject - it made you so happy you had a few more months with him. It was hell trying to focus when he looked at you, but it was so exciting each time he did.
Fortunately, it was the last day you had with him. Which meant that the man who tortured you with his existence would be just another page in your life.
Unfortunately, it meant passing your final exam.
You were pretty sure you were going to pass. This time you had studied and really tried, which was better than you could say than last semester - you had stayed up the entire night and got...distracted. (Professor Suehiro had a public Instagram. Of course, you were obsessed)
But you had a card up your sleeve this time. If you failed, then you had a photo of your tits with your number on the back.
It was pretty obvious what the implication was. You spent time trying to position the camera right, getting the right bra and lighting so you would look as fuckable as possible.
Hopefully he didn't notice that your apartments floors were from the 18th century and belonged in a horror film. It was hard to make the photo attractive when you had such a poor workspace.
Parts of you were really hoping he would call - if you can't use your brain to get through college, surely you can use your body, right? Professor Suehiro was attractive, you would have slept with him anyway, grade or not.
The smarter part of you was screaming at you - this was weird. It's really weird, actually.
But you needed every card you could pull to pass.
So against that small intelligent part of your brain that was beaten to death by regurgitating the semester's course material on the exam, you snuck in a photo of your tits and number into the stapled-together papers, praying to god that at the very least, dealing with the consequences later.
-
"Oh. Hello Y/n."
Professor Suehiro smiled gently towards you, shuffling papers that you were sure was among the hundreds he had to grade. His hands were elegant as he moved them around - his veins were so beautiful you wanted to bite them.
"You emailed me about my exam? Is there an issue?"
The smarter part of your brain was winning now that you were released from your test anxiety - right after you had left the room, it had won and had stayed winning, making you wish you had never left that stupid photo.
"Not exactly. I did wish to congratulate you on passing this semester - the minimum you needed was a 30, and you scored a 52. That brings you to a 79 as your final grade, if you're alright with that."
His deep voice drawled out the numbers, having them languish on his tongue as he looked down on you.
It was hard to maintain eye contact, so you stared a little past him, observing how his shirt was unbuttoned just enough to show the definition of muscle between his chest and collarbones.
"C's are A's for me. I'm happy enough."
It was like a piece of your anxiety left - finally, this class was over. After you walk out of this room, you would quite possibly never think of the Meiji era again. Ever.
Or the sexiest man alive, which was frankly a little disappointing.
"Are you sure? Student's ask me to round their grades usually, so I offer extra credit."
The brunette tilted his head like a puppy, his golden eyes calculating something as they grazed your form.
Today was one of the few outfits you had worn that wasn't revealing - you weren't even wearing a bra, instead opting for a large shirt and a jacket in order to avoid the discomfort.
Maybe he noticed? Fuck. You hope he noticed.
"What is it?"
Maybe it was a date. Or something better.
Was the photo actually paying off?
"I can text it to you if you'd like, you seem to prefer that."
You couldn't tell if he said this with sarcasm or not, but you nodded anyway. He smiled a little - maybe it was the right thing to say?
Casually, he pulled out the photo you left him, staring at the front for a long, hard moment. His face didn't tell you anything about what he was thinking, but you could feel your face warming up in a normal amount of shame, as his eyes turned to look back at you.
Silently, he turned the back of the photo around, typing in your phone number. His face cracked into a smile, his cheeks chasing his eyelashes as they pulled into little crescents.
"Oh! Yea."
Professor Suehiro wasn't well known for understanding social cues, but you could feel his knuckles graze against your chest, with only your thin T-shirt to protect you.
He was definitely far too close into your personal space.
"I don't think you meant to leave this."
His fingers tapped the photo against your chest, causing a furious red to spread across your face.
"Right. Um...you can keep it, if you want."
Why the fuck did you say that?
The older man just took the photo and stared at it for a moment again - it was so embarrassing, feeling like your chest was some sort of science exhibit.
His golden eyes moved back towards you again, after torturing you for the last few minutes.
"Thanks. Nice bra, by the way."
"I appreciate it, Professor Suehiro."
Was that a compliment or just a statement? His voice was hard to really know anything by, and his face currently didn't say much - he was just the same handsome guy who had been torturing you for half a year with your existence.
"Just call me Tecchou."
He leaned in closer, deciding that your personal space was his own as he fixed the collar of your shirt, tugging it around your neck and dragging his fingers across your skin.
What the fuck was that extra credit going to be?
Tumblr media
This is very self indulgent but like *shrug emoji* anyway im gonna be a bit more active now I guess
Also edited cuz who is letting me post this while fucked up?

So I keep seeing people saying certain things regarding the events of Stormbringer, so I’ve written up a basic outline of what happened.
The timeline in SB seems to be:
Day 0/Prelude (before Chuuya knew what's going on)
- Verlaine broke into the PM, stealing back the hat
- Probably at the same time (and one day before the main plot starts) he seemed to try to go after Dazai and Mori (since Mori was apparently originally at the top of the list) but found Dazai first who bargained to buy time, promising info from the PM’s internal files (meaning files the PM has, not necessarily ones about the PM as we learn later)
- Verlaine tried to eliminate Adam who'd followed him to Japan (didn’t work)
Day 1 (Chuuya's involvement starts)
- Verlaine moves onto his next targets, the ones close to Chuuya, the Flags and attacks them
- Chuuya is not there due to Adam's arrival and despite being some of the Mafia’s elite up-and-coming members, the Flags die
- Verlaine then attacks Chuuya, revealing himself
- Verlaine pokes at the Gate and opens it for a few seconds
- Dazai, who'd probably been keeping track of Verlaine's actions while preparing contingencies and a plan to ultimately defeat him, now knows about the Gate's power that Chuuya and presumably Verlaine have and ensures that it's stopped
- Dazai drops Chuuya off at Old World to try to get some final goodbyes
Day 2 (Super busy)
- Flags' funeral
- Adam and Chuuya team up and suspect Shirase is a target (which is odd because Verlaine obviously did want to meet Shirase but he didn't try to kill him so... Was that a red herring all along?) and go to help him
- Verlaine meets Dazai at the storage container for the promised info (that was promised 2 days previous) that's the entire reason he spared Dazai (later revealed to be about N and the lab) and Dazai does so to buy more time
- Showdown at the police station; Detective Murase is killed (and seems to have been a target all along, not Shirase)
- Chuuya takes a breather after the detective dies, but N contacts them
- The lab stuff, including N, revelations, Dazai's arrival in an active plot role, etc.
- Verlaine gravity bombs his exit out, revealing he can crack his own Gate open, and kidnaps N
Day 3 (2 Days after Chuuya encountered Verlaine and had his Gate cracked open)
- Chuuya punishes Dazai for leaking info about N that resulted in Murase’s death (and his torture) while Dazai explains what will probably happen with his plan
- Verlaine has his own confrontation with N that once again shows N is a lying liar who lies
- Dazai's many staged plans and contingencies is fully revealed as action continues (tons of parts where Verlaine was almost stopped but had to move forward with the next plan - it’s very convoluted but it works, almost justifying the time he bought)
- They manage to win
- N ruins everything
- Dazai gives Chuuya two minutes to decide between his own wants and the needs of Yokohama
- Final fight: Guivre vs Corrupted Chuuya
- The day is saved thanks to Chuuya
And then of course the epilogue skips around in terms of time, place, character, and which of the book’s themes need to be wrapped up, but this is the basic gist of what happened overall.

This is probably the wackiest and most unnecessary theory out there, but given the ages/timeline, there’s a possibility that Ranpo’s father “Clairvoyant” was a detective at the time that Murase was a detective. Given the timeline, Clairvoyant would’ve been a detective for quite some time while Murase would’ve just been starting out. This is interesting because I wonder if the two could’ve possibly crossed paths even though Ranpo’s father worked just right outside of Yokohama.
I’m totally being wacky and delusional right now, but what if, Ranpo’s parent’s death was a planned accident, or perhaps, not that much of an accident at all. What if, through working with Murase on some kind of case, Clairvoyant discovered a little bit too much about the Japanese military, and perhaps, he might’ve discovered the existence of a certain scientist by the name of “Professor N”. Now, given Ranpo’s personality, I’d assume that Clairvoyant wouldnt be all too happy discovering that there was a wacko scientist that kidnapped a child and experimented on said child, and I can also most likely infer that Professor N or other members of the Japanese military would’ve not been too happy that Clairvoyant would’ve discovered anything about Arahabaki and the research done in Yokohama.
Im implying that either the military staged an accident, or Clairvoyant himself (or his wife who was apparently more clever than he was) could’ve set up an “accident”. The military would’ve done this for obvious reasons, while Clairvoyant could’ve done it to protect his son in some sort of way. (I don’t really know. I’m just saying stuff at this point)
The only kind of proof we have is the possibility that these two were detectives at the same time, as well as, Clairvoyant’s message to Ranpo to go to Yokohama Police Academy's principal for help if anything were to happen to him. If Clairvoyant hadn’t had any connection to the Yokohama Police, then why would he trust them or the principal of it with his son if something were to happen to him?
Don’t know what this would do for the story if it ended up being true, but it’s something fun to think about when your favorite characters are Chuuya and Ranpo.

if chuuya was raised by dr N, how do you think he would’ve changed?
What an interesting and difficult question
I'm assuming this is from a "what if Chuuya hadn't been taken out of the lab at all"? Where as professor N's project subject, N would have been his "guardian"?
All the Chuuyas we know were pretty similar: the little boy in his village who tried to beat up an older kid because he insulted his parents, the famined kid who had the guts to call out to another kid to know if you could eat the thing he was holding, the relunctant "king" of the Sheep, the Flags' angry little guy, the Port Mafia's top fighter and executive, Dazai's partner. The main points that kept true through all that, even before and after the lab, were that Chuuya fights, Chuuya cares, and Chuuya has an attitude.
I think these are all part of his core personality and will keep true no matter what happens. If he stops displaying these traits, it's because he's hiding them, or he's broken.
If N was smart, he'd give Chuuya a noble goal to latch onto. Getting Chuuya on your side is more efficient than forcing him to cooperate, and in the context that Project Arahabaki's objective was to effectively create a human weapon to be deployed at will, it's a lot more sustainable to have that weapon be proactive.
Chuuya's main driving force has always been defending other people, so something along the lines of saying he could be a hero, a protector, that he could help make people safe with his powers, should be good. Of course, he has to care about the people he's defending for this to be effective, so that first. If N wanted to be his trusted guardian for easier handling, he would need to be the first person Chuuya cares about by being a decent enough "parent" (you bet he'd call himself Chuuya's father for "creating him") who seems to want what's good for Chuuya. If you help Chuuya, he'll bound himself to you forever, no matter what.
With all that, I think that a Chuuya whose nature was exploited for control by N (or whoever N puts him in the hands of) wouldn't be too different from Chuuya the Sheep King or Chuuya the PM executive, just with a lot more propaganda put in his head and maybe worse self-sacrificial tendancies. I don't think the lab would have been a one-and-done thing if he'd stayed under their "care", so I feel the frequent check up, test, etc., while not necessarily evil, paired with him being a glorified weapon, would be damaging in the long run by taking away his ability to say no. At that point, the only thing he has left is his choice to go all out, to be the first in line, and to not care what happens as long as he succeeded in protecting everyone in the end. He's been made to care, and he has nowhere else to go.
Basically, take Chuuya, but instead of "I do what I can to protect everyone", it's "I do what I'm told because I want to protect everyone". Maybe, one day, the Sheep and/or SB history will repeat themselves as Chuuya learns something or meets someone he shouldn't have, or questions his origins. You decide.
I'll leave you with this short one-shot by Musical_Fandom of a young Chuuya, who stayed in the lab, being handed to Fukuchi as a Hunting Dog candidate, because I think that Chuuya meeting Fukuchi at a formative age is a fantastic idea to explore in this context.

#14
context: verlaine is late.
-
“You’re not even human,” N says dispassionately, measuring his vitals.
And it’s the apathy that does it. Maybe Chuuya would have been able to handle it if he had sneered. Laughed, even. Anything but apathy.
It’s the matter of fact way he says it. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and Chuuya Nakahara’s life is built on a lie. A fanciful fantasy, almost. A series of pitiable delusions used to make a science experiment feel anything other than a tragic sort of hopelessness.
 Here’s the thing:
When the flags (his family) had died, Chuuya retreated. He shut down his feelings and the urge to scream for a mother he doesn’t remember. What else could he have done? Broken down sobbing?
Tears were a luxury Chuuya doesn’t think he’s ever had, not since he crawled out of the destruction of his own making, power lingering under his tongue and fingertips; shaking from a mixture of adrenaline- the need to survive, to claw his way out no matter what.
So yes, it’s the apathy that does it. Chuuya retreats. He hides his self, his feelings. Oh, no doubt that he’s strong. But here’s the thing:
Above all, Chuuya had been a kid.
Maybe, in another life, Verlaine comes to piss Chuuya off and remind him shit has to be done. In this one, Verlaine is still off doing fuck knows what, so it’s just a scientist and his experiment- a lonely kid with no way of processing anything.
And when the next round of torture comes?
“O’… grantors of… dark disgrace…” he slurs, fighting to keep his eyes open. Every nerve in his body screams at him not to. And that’s the problem, isn’t it? Chuuya’s so, so tired of fighting.
“you… need not wake me… again.”
To say the words ring of finality would be a lie. Here’s the thing: theoretically, if corruption goes on long enough, Chuuya will be swallowed by his own singularity. Chuuya Nakahara will have never existed.
So, no. Finality is a thing for humans, not for an experiment who’s undeserving of even a heart. If Chuuya dies, it will be silent. It will be an unnerving juxtaposition between his life and death.
A fitting end for a boy who’s life is built atop a fragile tower of delusions.
Arahabaki howls, and the world turns red.
A door swings open.

Note
who were the two in the box you had to look up??????
Solas Fen’harel and I had to ask a friend about Il Dottore, because I’m not in either the Genshin fandom nor the Dragon Age one (and in fact am so far removed from that fandom that I have never seen anything about it at all). I’m also not directly in the Owl House fandom, but I knew enough from a friend’s interest in it and posts to understand the context.
I knew about Frankenstein because…well who doesn’t know about Frankenstein — and anyway I’m into BSD, which has ties to Frankenstein through SB. So yeah.
